What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
From constructing my audience research, I was made aware mainly of what my target audience thought about my
documentary, but also the radio trailer and the newspaper advert. The feedback that I gained, was from my target
audience, which was very useful, as it allowed me to understand whether or not my media products (in particular my
documentary), fulfilled its purpose, which is to entertain, inform and educate the target audience, due to it being
meant for BBC (2) broadcasting.
From conducting my audience feedback, I was made aware
that most of the people that watched my documentary did
enjoy it and had positive things to say about it. Although
obviously their were some negative comments, which has to
be expected, since not everyone that will watch my
documentary will have a profound interest in books.
However, aswell as gaining some happy audience members and positive comments, I also received some constructive
criticism, which is undoubtedly better than any comments, since it will allow me to see where I can improve, which
would in the future help me to create a greater documentary if I was to do it again. The main criticism is that the sound
in certain aspects of my documentary is not as clear as other parts, so this would be a good area to develop from in the
future, which I could prevent not just during post production work, but also in the filming.
In addition, from my audience feedback, I have been able to understand that the humours parts in the documentary did
pay-off. As did the areas that were more complex to create such as the title sequence, which worked very effectively.
Through conducting my audience
feedback, I was additionally able to
get some incite into what my
target audience though of my
newspaper advert.
This advert worked amazingly in
carrying out its role, which is to
make people want to watch the
documentary, for the reason being
that when creating it, I used by the
codes and conventions of that of a
real media product. In particular
they are meant to be simple yet
effective, which is clearly what my
newspaper advertisement was,
according to my results, as people
wanted to find out what the
burning book was all about.
The information that is portrayed above clearly demonstrates that my radio trailer works really well in combination with
my documentary. The reason that I managed to achieve this was by following the codes and conventions of both a
documentary and a radio trailer, as I did with my newspaper advert.
The results that I obtained from my audience feedback suggest that the reason that my documentary and radio trailer
worked well together was because the radio trailer was very informative (even including several clips of the
documentary in it), which helped to set the mood of the documentary.
Overall from constructing my audience feedback, I have learnt that in order to make my target audience want to watch
something, I have to persuade them, which can be done through the humour or informative information provided in
the radio trailer. Likewise, I have learnt that the newspaper advert also plays a significantly high role in persuading my
audience into wanting to watch the documentary.
Finally, from carrying our and obtaining my results from my audience feedback, I now know that there are certain areas
in which my documentary could improve (in particular the sound in some parts of the extract).
Thus, my audience feedback has been very useful and even the negative comments may help me to improve in the
future.
