The document summarizes feedback from an audience questionnaire about a makeup documentary. Key findings include:
- The narrative and structure of the documentary made sense to viewers.
- Most felt the documentary was relevant to its target audience of 14-20 somethings, though some noted it was not targeted towards men.
- Viewers found the voiceover, video quality, and interviews to be clear and consistent.
- Strengths included the use of cutaways while some noted room for improvement in interviews.
- Elements like mise-en-scene, editing and professionalism scored highly in ratings.
- The radio trailer and print advert effectively conveyed the topic of makeup and enticed viewers.
3. Q1.) Does the narrative of the documentary make sense and
link to the topic of makeup? Why?
Question one was based on the narrative of the documentary and
whether or not it linked well with the topic of documentary.
We found that 100% of people who filled in the questionnaire
thought that the narrative of the documentary makes sense and
that it links with the documentary. From this I have learnt that our
documentary is well set out and is clear to understand, therefore
needing no improvement in this area.
Here are some comments that were made in the ‘why’ question for this
question:
“Talks about technology in regards to makeup”
“Narrative flows well as interviews are arranged together in topics”
“Gives a lot of good information about makeup”
“It covers a lot of makeup in the YouTube world and what products
people prefer (vegan)”
4. Q2.) Is the documentary relevant to the target audience and
why? (14- early 20’s, both genders)
Question two is based on whether or not the documentary is relevant to
the target audience of 14- early 20’s and both genders.
The results show that 14 people said that the documentary is relevant to
the target audience, although two people did not think this. As a result of
these findings I learnt that our documentary is relevant to the target
audience as most people who filled out the questionnaire said so.
Here are some of the comments from people who said that the
documentary was relevant to the target audience:
“Because the younger generation use YouTube”
“ because both genders are now more accepted into wearing makeup”
Here are some of the comments from the people who said that our
documentary was not relevant to the target audience:
“ not so much targeted towards men”
“All interviewees are female”
5. Q3.) Is the voiceover clear and understandable? why?
Question three is based on whether or not the voiceover is clear and
understandable. In the documentary and radio trailer.
This bar chart shows the 100% of people who filled out the
questionnaire said that the voiceover was clear and understandable.
For this I have learnt that the steps we have taken to create the voice
over (e.g. by using the radio studio) has resulted in us have a good
quality voiceover for the documentary and radio trailer.
Here are some of the comments for the ‘why’ section for this
question:
“Voiceover is clear and informative throughout”
“Not rushed”
“What she talks about is good and interesting”
6. Q4.) Is the video picture quality clear and is it consistent
throughout? why? Question three is based on whether or not the video quality is
clear or not and whether it is consistent throughout.
Form looking at the results of the questionnaire it shows that 15
people who filled out the documentary said that the picture quality
is clear and is consistent throughout, although one person did not
agree with this and put no. From this I have learnt that due to the
vast majority of people who filled in the questionnaire saying that
the video quality is clear and consistent, our documentary is of a
high quality and therefore needs little/no improvement.
Here are some of the ‘why’ responses that we got back from the
people who said yes:
“Always in focus even during cutaways”
“Easy to see, nothing was blurry”
However, here is the ‘why’ response from the person who said no:
“Interview at home was a bit darker”
7. Q5.) Are all four interviews clear and do they relate well to
the documentary? why? Question five is based on whether or not the interviews are
clear and whether they relate well to the documentary.
We found from look at the results that 100% of the people
who filled in the questionnaire said that they did find the
interviews clear and related well to the documentary. For this
I have learnt that within our documentary we have planned
and filmed the interviews for our documentary well, and
therefore needs no changes to it.
Here are some of the ‘why’ responses that we got for this
question:
“They are all people who have a career in makeup”
“They link with the topic of documentary well”
“All interviews are clear and are relevant”
“They all spoke about the rise of makeup”
8. Q6.) What is one strength and one weakness of the
documentary? Question six is based on asking the people filling out the questionnaire
to give one strength and one weakness of the documentary.
For the strengths the results came back that the most popular good
thing about the documentary was the use of cutaways, with 43.8%.
From this I have learnt that the cutaways that we have included in the
documentary are very good and relate well, resulting in their needing no
changes to the cutaways in our documentary.
However, we also asked for one weakness of the documentary and we
found that 50% of the people who filled out the questionnaires said
nothing was wrong with the documentary. Although the most popular
weakness that we got from the questionnaires was the interviews. As a
result of this I aim to look at how we would have been able to improve
on the interviews within our documentary. In contrast one person did say
that the strength of our documentary was the interviews.
9. Q7.) Within each of the interviews are the interviewees
positioned correctly and is there good mise-en-scene?
Question 7 was based on if each interview was positioned correctly
and whether there is good mise-en-scene in them.
From the questionnaire results we found that 15 people said that
they found the interviews were positioned correctly and that there is
good mise-en-scene, although 1 person did not agree with this. From
looking at this I have learnt that the interviews have been positioned
correctly by my group and I along with relatable mise-en-scene, a
crucial aspect of what a good documentary interview must include.
Here are some of the responses from the people who said yes:
“Good mise-en-scene”
“Follows the codes and conventions”

Here is the reason why someone said No to this question:
“ the one at home didn't have any mise-en-scene”
10. Q8.) On a scale of 1-5 how do you rate the following
elements of the documentary?
Question eight is a question were we have
asked the people filling in the
questionnaires to rate each the following out
of five; mise-en-scene, camerawork, editing,
interview relevance and professionalism.
We found that all of these scores between 3
to 5 which means that in general our
documentary is of a good quality due to
these different aspects. This shows that the
audience liked the documentary.
11. Q9.) On the radio trailer, is the non-diegetic sound (music
etc.) relevant to the topic of documentary? why?
Question nine is based on the radio trailer and is asking
whether or not the diegetic sound is relevant to the
documentary or not.
From looking at the results we found that 100% of the
people who filled in the questionnaires thought the
diegetic sound was relevant to the documentary. From
this I have learnt that the non-diegetic sound we have
used has related well to our topic of documentary.

section of the question:
“Music is casual and relaxing”
“Music is relevant”
“Links with makeup”

what the documentary is about?Question ten is based on whether the radio
trailer gives a clear understanding of what the
documentary is about.
From looking at the results of this question I
found that 100% of the people who filled out
the questionnaire found that the radio trailer
gives a clear understanding of what the
documentary is about. From this I have learnt
that our radio trailer does not need any
changes as it is evident that the audience
understands what the documentary is about
from listening to it.
13. Q11.) Does the radio trailer want you to watch the
documentary? why? Question eleven is based on whether the people who
filled out the questionnaire would want to watch the
documentary.
When looking at the results we found that 100% of the
people who filled out the questionnaire wanted to watch
the documentary after listening to the radio trailer. I
have learnt from this that the narration of the radio
trailer does not need to be changed because it is
evident that it is understandable to the audience.
Here are some of the ‘why’ responses to this question:
“intriguing “
“Includes key interview clips”
14. Q12.) Is the voiceover for the radio trailer is clear,
understandable and informal? why?
This question is based on whether the voiceover for the
radio trailer is clear, understandable and informal.
The results show that 12 people said that the voiceover
is clear, understandable and inform, and only one
person said that it didn't. I have learnt from this that the
voiceover for our radio trailer is clear, understandable
and informal, a like all professional radio trailers.
Here are some of the ‘why’ responses from the people
who said yes:
“Speaks clearly”
“Easy to understand”
Here is the one reason why someone said no:
“Speaks to quick”

makeup? Question thirteen is based on whether
the print advert has clear connotations
of makeup.
We found from the results of this
question that 100% of the people who
filled out the questionnaire found the
print advert to have clear connotations
of makeup. In addition to this, I have
learnt that our print advert does not
need any more adjustments because it
already reflects the documentary well.

frame the main image well? why?
Question fourteen is based on the positioning of the
text and the channel sign frame the main image well.
The results of this came back that 100% of the
people who filled out the questionnaires said that
they do find the positioning of the text and channel
sign frame the main image well. From this I have
learnt that my group and I do not have to edit our
Print advert any further as it is fine the way it is.
Here are some of the reasons why people said yes to
this question:
“Doesn't get in the way of the main image”
“Easy to understand”
“Follows the codes and conventions”
