Who would be the audience for
my media product?
As I mentioned before, I was targeting different socio- demographic groups. I was
targeting C2-C1 and E groups. In the process of creating the movie ‘’NAIVETY’’ I aimed
at making it interesting for people between the age of 30-40. That is why I made the
storyline so political and adventurous; I hoped that their interest would be sparked
trough what Cliff and Francis went trough. In my opening scene one can easily see
that the second part of the video portrays their most important adventure. That is
why I kept some of the story away from the audience. That way I knew that the they
would be interested in what would happen to the boys . In order to satisfy younger
audiences, I used computer generated effects, so as to make my movie more
interesting for young adults.
How did you target younger audiences?
When I was thinking of how I could target younger audiences like
teenagers, I reached the conclusion that the context must be of interest to
them. I looked into what kind of action movies men prefer to watch and I
found out that audiences like this prefer to watch films similar to Taken,
Eagle Eye, Fast and Furious and others. The reason why I made this
research was because my questionnaire was answered by a female
audience only. I targeted the younger audience by staring teenagers as the
main characters for my film. The second part of my opening scene has
contributed to this as well as it shows the dangerous journey which Cliff
and Francis undertake.
How did you attract your audience?
For younger audiences I used different generic conventions, different props, as well as
advertised the film with a movie poster.
Like I mentioned before, the my main props in my opening scene are guns. Guns, in
general, are very important part of an Action movie. In ‘’NAIVETY’’ the guns are supported
with a gun fire effect, which makes the film more realistic. What my audience may ask
themselves is what will happen to Francis and Cliff in the second scene because I didn’t
show how the scene ends.
I researched with the aid of a Questionnaire what my audience would like to see
in my opening scene. By the responses, and some comments from close friends , I
managed to gather all the information into one. What my audience wanted was to get
engaged with the characters and understand their situation. That is why I started my film
with a farewell video which introduces the characters. After that scene, I wanted to show
what Francis and Cliff had gone trough. In the end of the scene I did not show everything
in detail in order to builds up anticipation and make the film more interesting for the
audience.
