5. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE
CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT REPRESENT SOCIAL GROUPS
OR ISSUES?
Opening sequence are important for setting the overall film. A good
opening will make the audience more interested in the rest of the movie.
Movie opening also gives the audience an insight of the film and informs
regarding the cast, setting or the genre of the film.
The opening may focus on one thing than another but it will build up the
film for the audience.
In my movie opening we focus on this girl who talks to this boy named
Quntin online, this gives the audience the thought of who is this boy? How
do they know each other? What is the significance of them talking to each
other? The two main films we looked at to base our opening on was the
boy lying to the girl about his identity which indicated that even though
she haven’t met him or known him properly she trusts him and the other
one is when the girl meets him she is shocked and forced to go with the
guy which indicates that the guy is not what he claimed to be on the chat
room and could be a rapper or a kidnapper.
6. All of this makes it pretty obvious that my movie’s
genre is thriller and drama so I haven’t really
challenged the conventions but used and took
inspiration from some existing movies. I majorly took
inspiration from the movie Trust and this Turkish TV
show.
The social issue my movie opening focuses is the
misuse of internet by some people which can affect
the lives of a lot of families. Mostly girls and teenagers
are the ones targeted in these acts.
In my movies Ending I copied a scene from the movie
Lucy (the elevator one) to create a suspense of what
happens next.
8. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH
AUDIENCES AND HOW WOULD IT BE DISTRIBUTED
AS A REAL MEDIA TEXT?
My target audience are the teenagers and young
adults as movie focuses more on teenagers and their
mistakes and because it’s a thriller film and I feel the
content would appeal to them most. Once they see
the trailer, it’s reviews they are going to get interested
and would want to know know what happens with the
girl in the movie and how the story goes. I believe that
the viewers of suggested ages would like my film more
and not people who are extremely young or old
because the can't really relate to it.
9. As my movie is a low budget production, I can’t think of any
studio being interested in distributing my film. I think my film
would more likely get released on public sites or vlogs such as
YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo and Facebook etc. It can be a new
start to my filming experience so I’ve decided to produce my
movies with the name Lmentrix production (My production
house name). As my movie is about the misuse of internet and
it indicates that the teenagers and young adults are the ones
who use the internet the most so by releasing my movie on
these sites would help me get my movie and it’s message get
across my target audience.
I could try and get in contact with a company and see if they
would like to sponsor my film and it could be associated with
their product. I can also try marketing my film’s storyline in a
magazine or online before it’s release.
10. HOW DID YOUR PRODUCTION SKILLS
THROUGH OUT THIS PROJECT?
It has been a very great experience for me. I have learnt more than I
expected I will. I learnt about all the different kinds of camera angles,
choosing locations best for different situations and more about the mise-en-
scene. I learnt abut different kind of conventions of films, as I watched and
looked up a lot of films during my planning.
I got to learn and experience a lot of other things e.g. While filming in the mall
I had to ask for permission to shoot from a lot of people like The outlet
manager of Johnny Rockets & MANGO and the mall manager.
They mall didn’t allow me to use the tripod but I somehow managed to
convince them too.
11. I learnt more about sound i.e. Diegetic and non diegetic. I learnt
what kind of music would suit on a particular situation and to
signify a genre.
I learnt more about the lighting, where low key and high key
lighting should be used e.g. In a romantic scene low key lighting
should be used as it gives it’s own good effects.
I learnt what kind of a studio or distributor would be suitable for
the kind of movie being produced and how should it be
marketed.
Overall I think I’ve improved significantly as I’ve made such a
creative movie opening a lot of experience and knowledge
gained.
Another major factor I discovered that IMovie is the best software
to edit your film specially for beginners like me.
I’ve become a more creative person.
12. HOW DID YOU INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGIES
(HARDWARE, SOFTWARE & ONLINE) IN THIS
PROJECT?
Throughout the project I came across different softwares and
technologies i.e. I learnt how to make a Vlog and it's features. I also
learnt how to use editing software such as IMovie to it's full
potential, which I wouldn't have had if I might not have. I learnt
about the power of camera angles and also how important it is to
look into choosing the correct setting for shooting. I have also leant
about all different types of camera shots and the transitions that
come with them.
As I used websites and Vlogs such as YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo and
Facebook etc. it made the target audience give me feedback
about my movie opening. Positive or negative, it helped me
evaluate myself, my skills and how could it all be improved. I used
my online blog to organize my planning. I listened to a lot of
different kinds of music to find the best one that was in sync with
the scenes.
