In what ways does your media
product use, develop and
challenge forms and conventions
of real media products
 I studied the history of opening sequences
and three opening sequences from different
genres and discovered that my one makes
up a traditional conventional opening
sequence
 I used three other opening sequences close
to my genre to get to grips with the
conventions of an opening sequence
 I chose Film 4
 This is because it is a British company and
all the actors in my movie are as well so
would make sense to have a British film
company
 This company would also like my film
because they would like the style- British
cast and contains social realism
 It would also be cheaper to use a British film
company then say an American one
 The titles I used were based on what kind
came up in other sequences like the actors
names and some main people behind the
film like the producer/editor/director etc
 I also used a font to match the setting of the
film which is set in Turkey and represents the
narrative of the film
 My inspiration came from two movies
 The main one was James Bond- Sky Fall as
the first seen was set in a market and even
though I was not using the same genre or
story line it was useful to see the type of
shots they used and how I could contrast
and use those for mien
 In this opening sequence I took the market
scene and used shots like they did to
establish the market place, just not the high
action like this one
 Protagonist- Lucy, mother and father
 Antagonist- Kidnapper 1 and 2
 Having the range of characters in the
opening sequence shows that the film has
tension from the beginning and the viewers
would want to know what Lucy was
kidnapped and what will happen, hooking
them in
 Comparison of the parents scene and Lucy’s kidnap-
the difference in moods and how the parents and
panicked are worried while the kidnappers are calm
and evil like. Overall this adds to the genre as striking
as it puts the viewer through a range of emotions in
just a few minutes
 The genre is also relatable as people come across
kidnapping stories in the news and through friends, it
is a hot dramatic topic that when a film is made about
it it is a popular movie as people want to know more
about it and what it is like for both the parents and
the child
 The location is also important as it is set somewhere
where no other film has been set so therefore
drawing in even more viewers as they would want to
know what the country is like and how it is
represented
 Colour grading- to make the opening
sequence more suited to the setting of the
film and the darkness of the genre I changed
the bright colours of the market so a more
heated and red/orange light
 Dimensions- I added in a black strip at the
top and bottom of the screen to give my
movie a more professional feel
 I have understood how an opening sequence
has developed and changed since the beginning
of film making
 My opening sequence represents a more
modern and developed version of an opening
sequence
 It is set in a foreign location (Turkey) unlike other
social realism films
 This gives the film its own uniqueness and exotic
flavor
 I tried mainly to follow the conventions of an
opening sequence that have been followed
for many decades
 This is because I wanted the audience to
recognize that it was an opening sequence
that I had made and not another type of
media text like others I have seen
