1. How we used new media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages

2. Website's
YouTube was a massive help to research and planning as I was able to
watch other teaser trailers that gave me an insight into what goes into
making a teaser trailer, here I learnt about everything from how long they
are to what you should include, it was a massive help YouTube as without it
I wouldn't of been able to see real examples in the media. YouTube also
helped me with the production as I was able to look up demonstrations of
how to use an area or tool in an software, this was beneficial as it meant I
could quickly look up how to do something and then apply it straight away
to my work. I found YouTube easy to use and work with, and was able to
find plenty of helpful tutorials and past examples, however sometimes you
would find a fake version of a teaser trailer so you would have to ensure
the ones you were using were official.
The pearl and dean website was also a massive help when it came to the
research and planning as it allowed us to look into similar films, and who
they targeted it at, so we was able to base ours of past real media
examples to get the best insight. This was easy to find the film's I wanted as
it was all clearly laid out and all the needed information was placed into a
grid to get quick access to all the information needed, therefore I didn’t
need to go back and type in something else to find the next bit of
information needed.
3. Software's
Final Cut Pro was used to create and put together our teaser trailer in.
This allowed us to cut scenes down to the positions we needed them
to be exactly at. It also allowed us to layer different sounds and control
the pitch, loudness and everything else. We were also able to add in
titles through Final Cut pro, we had the choice of font, size and
transitions. this was easy to use once you got a brief idea and was
really easy to pick up new skills as it was all clearly laid out in the tools
selection and everything had its own category.
Photoshop and illustrator was also used to create the magazine cover
and poster. We edited shots and pictures in photoshop to get around
the edges precisely. Then it all came together on illustrator that
allowed us to add text and use different layers when building together
our final products of the poster and magazine cover. I found photoshop
and illustrator much harder to use and get to grips with as there was so
many different things you needed to constantly use and some were
hard to find upon everything else.
4. Computer Equipment
iPads and iPhones were used to take pictures of story boards to
then upload into our research and planning journals, as it was the
most efficient way by taking a picture of printed out or hand
written work and then upload through memory stick or USB cable
to the iMac.
They were also used when we went up to castle field where our
filming production took place and had a look around, we took
practice shots up there using the iPhone, allowing us to get a sense
of what we will need for our final products and did a test run
beforehand.
We also used special tablets that connected to the computer that
allowed us to freely draw on, however we had a go in using these
to do our animatics with but it didn’t go to plan and chose to
complete it without it as we found it hard to have complete
control and see exactly what it was you was drawing, as it would
appear on the computer screen and not where you was placing
the pen.
5. Digital Camera
Equipment
For your filming day we used the Canon 80D, this is an
advanced camera that allowed us to freely zoom in and
out whilst filming. It also gave us the option to adjust the
focus of the shot, this was extremely beneficial for close
up shots where we really wanted to focus in on
something specific. For example our shot of the blood on
the tissue in the leaves. In this shot we chose to focus in
on the bloody tissue with it hidden among some dead
leaves, symbolizing the death in this scene. This camera
was hard to use at first because of all the different
aspects to it, and in our AS media studies coursework the
camera we used then didn’t have all this. Therefore this
was completely new to all of us and took some getting
used to including a few practice shots. Once we did all
understand how it works we was able to use it
independently and when someone wasn’t sure how to do
something, there was always someone else who could
step in for help.
