1. Q4: How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Adobe Premiere Pro
During our project we used a large variety of new technologies. This included a new editing software
that I hadn't used prior to this project, that programme being, Adobe Premiere Pro. This software was in
place so that we could edit video clips from our filming and make them into our music video with the
use of this tool. I found Premiere Pro to be useful in the sense that it's better than a lot of free editing
software, but it definitely had it's drawbacks during the editing process of our music video. The main
drawback being, the amount of time that it took to render our video, even if we had moved a clip a tiny
bit it would in turn take an average time of about 15minutes. That's not including mass editing, and the
time that it would take to render that. So, using this programme definitely slowed our editing pace down
dramatically, and hindered us. It worked well with the use of Photoshop images though, and overall it
contained some nice filters and the layout was very clear and easy to understand.
3. Dolly
Another new piece of technology/tool we came across was
the attempted use of the dolly to aid our filming. This was
meant to help us with capturing the tracking shot(s) for our
music video. Unfortunately we didn't find this to be very useful
and had to go about filming handheld and with the tripod
instead. This was because the ground was not very smooth
and the dolly would jump, furthermore making the camera
image jolt too. This wasn't a digital piece of technology, which
was good to be able to try, but not of any use for our project in
the end.
4. Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop was not a new tool to myself, but it was to other members of
the group who didn't have much experience in using it. Saying this, I did
find some useful new techniques, such as an easy way to making the
background a different colour and manipulating the shape of the text I
was adding to the digipak. It was incredibly useful to myself, and I relied
on it heavily to help me create the magazine advert and the digipak,
along with things like mood boards too. Photoshop worked well with
Priemere Pro and worked well with converting the edited images into
other formats, plus helping me to change the image sizes too.
