2. My primary role in this project was as
Director. I decided early on that I
needed to understand what that role
entailed. To research the directorial
styles of my favourite directors and
the key characteristics of my film
opening sequence from the action crime
genre I used several online sites to
inform myself. These include:
Netflix,Amazon Prime Video and Google

3. I watched opening sequences from the
following films: Django Unchained (2012
Western/Action Film Directed by Quentin
Tarantino), Pulp Fiction (1994 Crime
Action Directed by Quentin Tarantino),
the classic City of God (2002 crime
action Directed by Fernando Meirelles)
and Fight Club (1999 Drama Genre
Directed by David Fincher).

4. Before we started filming we used two
websites to create a script and
storyboard. To generate the script, we
used the applications Celtx then switched
to Studiobinder. CELTX was an application
recommended by a guest speaker, Amal Al
Muftah who directed a few indie films in
Qatar. Though the application was of
great use, our team had issues with
sharing the documents amongst one
another.

5. On Studiobinder, there were numerous
tutorials on formatting the script and
how to collaborate with other members
of the team. We found this application
very user friendly. In less than two
days we were able to produce a script
for our opening sequence which met
industry standards.

6. When we needed to transfer documents,
mp3s, mp4s and images we were able to use
the Airdrop function which proved useful.
The airdrop function helped us to share
resources with our team as we all had
Apple products. This feature was easier
as it was wireless and faster than other
forms of sharing. Our schools have
implemented bubbles which were areas that
students had to separately sit and have
no physical contact with one another.

7. As Airdrop was wireless, we could share
resources whilst maintaining social
distancing. During our editing, we needed
our animator in our team to send a couple
of of idents before we could proceed to
the next stages of the project. He tried
emailing us the idents but it took longer
than expected which made us rather
frustrated. The Airdrop function has
helped us to share the animations
seamlessly with each other without the
worries of time and expenses.

8. When we weren’t in school, we primarily communicated
with one another on Discord and Whatsapp. During the
preliminary stage of planning, our team spent
several weeks isolating at home. This led to issues
with miscommunication and lack of teamwork. Our
solution to this conundrum was to use applications
such as discord and WhatsApp to work together.

Discord is an application that allows users to
communicate and share resources. It had a very
simple interface and was very easy to use for new
members. Also, there was a good voice quality which
made us satisfied with our communication as we
didn't need a VPN to talk to each other socially.

9. A VPN is needed in many applications
here in Qatar so discord as our primary
solution. Discord didn't need VPN
resulting in cheaper ways of
communication and less hassle in
management. File sharing is an
important part of discord as it helped
us share resources of different
formats. Such formats were large or in
audio/visual format.

10. While we shot our opening sequence we used
stabiliser technology such as the DJI Mimo 3
and DJI Mimo 4. The DJI Mimo is a great phone
stabiliser that can also follow subjects as we
were recording. We tried using more
professional cameras such as canon cameras but
were unable to do so as we weren't familiar
with its basis. Instead, we used an iPhone 12
pro max which surprisingly was able to shoot
in 4K. The iPhone 12 pro max has a 12MP wide
camera with optical image stabilisation which
offers 6 element lenses that allow more light
into the frame.

11. For our editing process, we used a MacBook Pro and an
Ipad Pro. As a director, I wanted to help the editor
to finalise the opening. We tried using other editing
software but it turned out to be costly. Instead, we
used Imovie which was free and easier to understand.
Imovie has helped our team in other ways such as
file-sharing, sound and transitions. File sharing was
easily done as airdrop was included to share the
resources. Imovie helped us with the music as the
application featured non-copyrighted music that was
free to download and implement in our opening
sequence. Transitions were integrated with the help
of Imovie as it included features that allowed us to
effortlessly implement such transitions.
