ENGLISH 7_Q4_LESSON 2_ Employing a Variety of Strategies for Effective Interp...
Question 4
1. 4. How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Pre-production
For the majority of our research, we took resources from online to compare them to the
product were were in the process of creating. In order to view different advertisements,
the internet was most effective due to its vast size and growing use making it the most
popular media source there is. Sites such as Youtube, Facebook, IMDb, Tumblr, Twitter
etc. make posting media texts easy to do, and viewing them easier for a large proportion
of the public. Using the internet we were able to find a suitable distributor for our film.
3. Pre-production
Facebook/Twitter - We used social
networking sites in order to connect
with our audience in a more direct
manor. Sending out questionnaires
to friends and family through a
website used daily by a majority of
them meant we could gain
feedback quickly and effectively.
Youtube/Vimeo - These online
streaming websites meant we
could look at pre-existing media
texts as inspiration for our film.
Google - Google Docs allowed us
to create a feedback questionnaire
that could be sent out to our target
audience, giving us feedback to
help our film creation process.
G o o g l e D r i v e m a d e t h e
questionnaire easy to share
amongst other member of our
group, and Google Search helped
us to look to mainstream and
independent film posters and how
they were played out.
IMDb - We relied on this as a
legitimate way of finding out the
true genre of similar films to our
story. Many people see some films
to be defined as different genres,
so having one website that had the
official genre helped us decide
what genre film ours would be by
giving us guidelines and examples
to look at.
BBFC - Again, the British Board of
Film Classification gave us
guidelines as to what our film
needed to include/not include in
order for it to fit the audience we
were aiming it. towards.
5. Production
Celtx - This software was used to
create a clear and professional
script for our film, in order for it to
be easily understandable for both
the producers and the actors in our
film. We used Celtx to write the
script for our Radio Trailer also.
Adobe After Effects - In order to
include glitches in our film, we
chose to use this software for an
ideal outcome. Without this, it
would have been highly difficult to
gain effective and realistic glitches
to occur throughout the film. We
were lucky enough to have this
software available to use, and
through the use of online tutorials,
effects came together as hoped.
Final Cut Express - This software
was essential in editing our film.
Without Final Cut, we would have
been unable to piece the scenes
we had shot together in such a
simple and professional format,
with the shots looking as high
definition as possible. We were
able to layer footage and audio,
place sound bridges, sound effects
and add title sequences to our film.
It was easy to use for us all, and in
my opinion understated in the film
production industry.
GarageBand - To piece together
our radio trailer, we used this soft
ware as it was simple and quick to
use and effective. Once recorded,
the audio was simply placed in this
software, re arranged to the order
we wanted and exported for
external use.
Photoshop - We were able to
produce an adept poster to
advertise our film. Luckily, we had a
member of our group that had
previously used this software in
other cases, and was there fore
able to create such an outcome,
without this skill, we would not have
been able to produce such a
successful poster.
6. GarageBand & Celtx
The layout of our script became easy to
understand and there fore made the overall
production process easier for everyone. By
formatting the dialogue and camera directions
into two different types of text made it easy for
the actors to determine their dialogue from the
“stage” directions.
Having previous experience with
this software made it a whole lot
easier to edit the tracks together.
There were other substitutes to
this software, but in order to get
the best outcome, we felt it
would see fit to use a program
we were familiar with.
7. Adobe Photoshop & After Effects
U s i n g A d o b e
softwares opened
many opportunities
for our group. We
w e r e a b l e t o
experiment with our
poster more, and
use different effects
to give an overall
tone to our movie.
Adding glitches to
our film made it eye

8. Filming Equipment
Sony HDV Camera - This camera
was how we filmed the majority of
our feature. It has High Definition,
adjustable focus, as well as
automatic, which we didn't think we
would use, but came into play
during the filming of out tracking
shots. Due to the size of this
camera, it became difficult to film
some shots we had planned,
meaning we had to compromise by
using other devices to record on,
and the time it took to import the
footage was tiresome, however this
camera was perfect for filming the
majority of our scenes.
Zoom Recorder - in order to record
extra sounds the camera was not
able to pick up, we kept this
Recorder at hand when filming on
location. Although useful, it
became a problematic device to
use due to its sensitivity to any
minor background noise, however
when recording the radio trailer, it
was very handy.
iPhone - As mentioned before,
when the HDV camera became
difficult to use, we resorted to the
use of an iPhone 5s’s recording
capabilities, as its definition was
suitable, and the phone itself is
lightweight. We only used this way
of recording when absolutely
necessary, as the screen resolution
was different to the HDV.
GoPro - We originally planned to
get a crane shot by using a stable
ladder and a bully mechanism to
suspend the HDV camera, however
due to the dangers of this task, a
friend of ours provided us with this
solution. The result came out just
as effective as we had hoped, and
was defiantly worth trying.
9. Others
Blogger - This platform allowed us
to exhibit the work we had done so
far. It i simple to use and allowed
us to edit what we had done, add
to and present our final productions
to other members in our group.
This meant that even if we were
unable to sit together and discuss
what was needed to be completed,
we could simply check our blog
and decide ourselves.
P r e z i - C r e a t i v e f o r m s o f
presentation were achieved
through the use of this website.
Instead of presenting constant
essays, we were given new ways to
spice up our work.
SlideShare - This website allowed
us to share any presentations we
had created on our computers
online.
