Evaluation of mando
review series FMP

Introduction
For my final major project, my plan was to do a review series of the Mandalorian season 2 which was similar
to my final major project I did in my first year at college for my level 2 creative media studys which was a
game review of overlord 2 and post it on my YouTube channel but also do a line of merchandise that related
to the channel to add a sense of authenticity to my project with a design of my own making and an image of
myself dressed as an existing character and modified a little to closely resemble my first design and as a
whole I am very pleased with how my project came out but there are some aspects I feel I could have done
better or different with my final major project.

Contextual Research
 To begin I looked at the creator somecallmejohnny and how he presents his reviews to his audience
and how his reviews appeal to his audience such as how he talks to them or how he structure his
interviews and overall, I feel I had a good understanding of how his reviews appeal to his audience such
as his reviews having a sense of familiarity with him doing his reviews at home or using calm and
soothing music.
 However, a way I could have improved this page would have been to split up the sections of my
explanation allowing for a more easier read.

Contextual Research
 Then I looked at another reviewer called chrisstuckmann in which like In the somecallmejohnny page
and look at how he presents his reviews to his audience by giving a brief synopsis of a review he is
doing and how he talks to his audience and why they his audience trust and I constant with him and
overall, I felt I had a good understanding as to how his reviews appeal to his audience.
 However, an improvement I could have made to this page would have been to split up the writing in
section to make it easier to read

 Next, I then looked at the review peanutbuttergamer and how his reviews appeal to his audience by
looking at how he sets out his reviews and their mood such as the comedic tones in his reviews and
how he reviews the product he’s reviewing and overall, I feel I had a good understand of his reviews
appeal to his audience such as his comedy fulfilling the audience's want for entertainment.
 However, a way I could have improved this page would have been like the previous pages to split up
the explanation into sections making it easier to read.

Contextual Research
 Finally, I looked at the reviewer Jeremy jahns and how he present his reviews to his audience such as
his reviews tone or how he explains the plot of the movie he’s reviewing to his audience, and I feel I had
a good understanding of how his reviews appeal to his audience such as the fast pace of his reviews
allowing for a quick but still informative to his audience.
 However, an improvement I could have made to this page would have been to split up the explanation
into section making it easier to read, but also which types of media theories would this reviewer fit into.

 Next, I went onto specifying what commonality's I found in my research by listing them from 1 to 6 then
picking three that I will use in my FMP and overall, I was quite happy with how this page turned out as
feel I was able to arcuately show what commonality each video shared and what commonalty's I would
use in my FMP.
 However, a way I could have improved this page would have been to give a reason as to why I was
going to use each commonality in my FMP.

 After finishing the last page, I then move onto what criticism was and the basis of it and I'm am quite
pleased with how the page came out with a detail description of what criticism is, but I could have
improved this page by also stating where the quote of what criticism is, can be found.

 Then I looked at different genres of reviews and listed them down and explained what they are and
what are their criteria and what type of review I will use for my FMP and overall, I am quite happy with
how the page turned out as I feel I was able to accurately describe each type of review was and their
criteria’s.
 However, a way I could have improved this page would have been to give a reason as to why I was
planning to the do the type of review I was going to do for my FMP.

 Then I looked at different types of media criticism such as written criticism and video criticism and what
is included within them then moving onto what type of media criticism I will use in my FMP, and overall,
I'm quite happy with how this page turned out as I feel I have an accurate description of each type of
media criticism.
 However, a way this page could have been improved would have been to give a reason as to why I was
going to use the type of media criticism.

 Finally, to finish my context research I stated why I was planning on doing my FMP the way I'm planning
such learning new skill with video editing and design skills making my merchandise and over all I feel
that I have given enough information on why I am doing my project the way I'm planning.
 A way I cold have improved would have been to go into more detail as to why I plan on doing my project
the way I am planning

 When it came to making my review series a success, I
would first need to have a good understanding of what
makes a review, so I decided to look at existing reviewers
and their reviews of products in which I first look at halo
cannon and his review series of the halo escalation comic
series and as a whole I feel I had a good understanding of
what he put in his reviews and how he structured them
and why it worked including breaking down how he set his
review out and what his reviews included other than just a
synopsis of the product plot including comedic jokes.
 however, a way this could have been better would have
been to also look at the context of why dose he use
machinima in his reviews, why Is his theme halo and how
dose it appeal to his target audience.
 then explaining what I would take from his review's series
and how I would use it in my own which I was quite happy
with, however this section could have been improved by
explaining why I was using these aspect of those review in

 Then once I was finished with looking at existing video

 next I look at a review of Metal Gear Solid: the Twin
Snakes , and I am quite happy with how I set it out as I feel
I was able to show I understood the magazine by
discussing what the magazine included such as how the
reviewer felt about the game play the story and even a
quote from the director of the game.

 Finally, I looked at a review of the lord of the rings, and I
am quite happy with how I set it out as I feel I was able to
show I understood the magazine by discussing what the
magazine included such as the cast of the movie and a
brief overview of the plot and how the review was

 After I was finished with my research on existing

 After I was finished with my research on existing merch
designs, I wanted to make a website to put my
merchandise on, so I began looking at existing merch
website design in which I looked at lumiostrainerzac
merchandise website in which I look at then describe what
the website look like and how it was presented.
 However, an improvement I could have made would have
been to give a contextual answer as to why people would
visit this website and how easy it is for his target audience
to use and find what they need.
 Then I moved onto explain what aspect of the existing

 Once I was finished looking at existing products relating to my project I then I made a questionnaire to
see what my target audience wanted from my project in which I then sent my questionnaire out and
waited a while and eventually got responses in which I then observed the answer I got and said how
they would affect, and I feel quite happy with how my research observation came out as I was able to
understand what my audience wanted from my project including the percentage and how those choices
will affect my project.
 However, I feel this part of my research could have been improved would have been to have asked
more question that go into more detail about what my audience wants from my project but also, I could
have compared my audience's choice against what I common among different types of target audience
such as teen or adult and which group my audience belongs to so I could better make sure my project
appeals to my audience.

 Then I went on to do two personal interviews in which I asked what the question of what make a great
review series to which I were given two separate answer then saying what I would need to do in my
review series to appeal to my audience and I feel I was accurate as to what I would need to do in my
project to appeal to my audience for example in interview 1 my audience mention they though rating
scores were what made a great review series to which I wrote in my response I would need to add
rating score at the end of my plot synopsis.
 However, an improvement I could have made to my research would have been to do more interviews
allowing me to get more accurate data on what I would need to do in my project to appeal to my target
audience.

Research
 Then I went onto doing an audience profile and how it will affect my project in the long run as since my
primary audience was girls ages 18-24, I would need to make my product educational and entertaining
but also not pander to old demographic ideas about women so I wouldn’t have to change much about
my project's aesthetics, and I feel it was quite professional as I was able to use a quote from a source to
back up my claim.
 However, I could have improved this page by going into more detail on what would appeal to my
primary audience of women and how I would make sure to have those appeal in my project.

 Then finally I then discussed media theory and how it relates to my audience in which I tied the media
theory of uses and gratification and what I means and how my project relates to it as well and I feel it a
good explanation as I go into detail on how my review will satisfy my audience need relating to uses
and gratification.
 However, I could have improved this page by including a brief synopsis of what use, and gratification
means I the context of media theory along with a quote backing up said synopsis and where the source
came from.

 Once I was finished with research, I began work on planning how my
products will look, in which first started design how my merch and the
website they would be on would look to which I started with my I never
game alone shirt design to which I first did a simple base image of
what the design was going to look like then going into more detail such
as the style of the image design and the font of the words then specify
what kind of color pallet each character would have then showing what
the character would look like in the final design.
 and overall, I'm quite happy with how the page turned out as I was
able to go into and show in precise detail how each character would
look in the final design.
 However, a way this page could have been improved would have been
to have extra art styles my shirt design could have just in case I decide
to not go with the one I went with as it Is always beneficial to have a
back up plan.

 Then I moved onto planning my second merch
design in which like the first design I did a simple
base design then I went into detail what font the
letter would been in and the style of the design,
then moving onto showing the color pallet for the
design and certain design aspects that will be
added.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with how these pages came
out as I feel they go into enough detail and show
clearly how the final design is going to look.
 However, an improvement I could have made to this
page would have been to explore more colour
pallets but also explore of art styles.

 Next, I then began work on my merchandise website in which I
did a simple base design but then scraped it and explained why
as it was too similar to an existing website to which I then did a
second base design which I decided to keep then explaining how
the site will be set out and what will be found on it, then
explaining how my header or my merch store will look and why
such as why it a sunset and the mascot is a shark to the color
pallets the header and mascot will have.
 Overall, I am quite please with how these page turned out as I
felt in went into enough detail on what the page is going to look
like in its final form and the color scheme it will have.
 However, an improvement I could have made would have been
to do some more base designs just in case I decided to not use
the design I chose and try looking at other mascots to see if
another animal would work better or not.

 Next, I went onto finding background music or my review series to which I was able to find a western
style soundtrack with one song being the perfect match for my review series to which I would then write
in my planning document which song I was going to use and why as it my review series theme as the
show being reviewed is part western,
 Overall, I am happy with this page as I feel I was able to give good explanation of what music track I
would be using in my review series but why as well.
 However, an improvement I could have made on this page would have been to include other tracks to
compare nd contrast with to see which is the better music track to use.

 Finally, I began work on my story boards for my
review series in which I paced an image in one o
the boxes and then wrote a brief description of what
each image represents over two pages for each
episode plot up until around episode 7 and 8 where
it was three pages.
 Overall, I am happy with how each story board or
each episode as I feel I was able to get all the
important plot points of each episode without
including wasteful plot points.
 However, a way I could have improved my story
board pages would have been to delve further into
the important plot points and add more story board
to them allowing for a more accurate image of how

Voice recordings
 Once I had finished planning my project, I went
onto gathering the materials needed to make my
FMP in which I first recorded myself doing a
review of each episode of the Mandalorian
season two by reading off script I had written in
advance of the project and recording my audio
via adobe premiere then exporting the audio to
an mp4 file.
 Overall, I'm happy with how my audio turned out
as a whole for each episode as the audio is
precise and easy to understand, however an
improvement I could have made to my audio
would have been to do a second round of
recording for each episode and compare them to
see if I could have gotten better and clearer

Screen shots
 Once I had finished up recording my audio, I then
moved onto gathering my plot images for my
review's series plot synopsizes in which I went to
google images and typed in each episode in the
search bar then started saving the image in their
own separate episode files.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with how with how I was
able to gather and organized with each image I
gathered being the exact image I needed for
specific plot points; however, I could have
improved this by I having all the images I
gathered being the same dimensions to create a
sense of consistency.

Screen shots
 Around episode six to eight I then decided to use
images from other creators then screen shoting
the video and then cropping the screen shot
image to the same size then saving the images
and placing the images in their own separate
episode files.
 Overall, I'm happy with how I was able to gather
my plot images as I was able to get images that
were precise as to what was going on during my
plot synopsis now the same dimensions as each
other, however I feel a way I could have still
improved my plot synopsis would have been to
gather clips from the episode to very up my
synopsis and keep it interesting to the viewer.

machinima
 Then I went onto recording my halo 5 machinima to
which I recorded my self coming onto screen then
turning to the camera, then recording myself turning
towards the screen then looking down and then
finally recording my character bobbing their head up
and down, then transferring the recorded footage to
my FMP project file.
 Overall, I'm happy with how my machinima came out
as I feel each of the clips, I recorded would be very
useful in my review series, however a way I could
have improved my machinima would have been to
do a second round of recording to see if I could have
gotten better quality footage.

music
 Then I went onto gathering the music for the
background of my review series to which I looked
up western music and found a completion video of
different western themed music tracks then I
copied the link address and put it into 2 conv in
which I was given a mp 4 file to download and
then place into my project folder.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with the western music
collection I would be using in my review series as I
feel the music will fit the aesthetic tone of the tv
series I am reviewing however a way this could
have been improved would have been to look or a
back up sound track just in case I couldn't use my
first choice.

Video production
 When it came to production, I would use the same
process for each episode by first focusing on editing the
audio by cutting out long stops or mistakes then moving
onto editing the visual side of the video by placing
images and clips over the edited audio until I had a
finished video where the audio and visuals matched
together especially during the machinima segments.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with how my production was set
out, as I feel the system I used allow me to create and
edit my videos in an efficient and timely manner,
however I feel a way my video production could have
been improved would have been to combined part of my
machinima together creating a longer clip, meaning less
production time would be spent on copying the same
clip over and over to create a sequence and allowing
me to focuse on other aspect of my video editing.

Merch production
 Then I moved onto my merchandise production in
which I gather a bunch of existing images collage them
together then drew over the base design plan until I
had the fished design but also during the drawing
process, I added my own visual touches such as my
design braxin have a tuft of hair over one eye and
wearing clothes or one of my arms being a prosthetic
then placing the finished designs onto a picture of
myself wearing clothes to create the illusion of the
design being printed on the clothes.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with how my production was
set out here as I was able to get y design work done in
a quick and efficient manner allowing me to move onto
the next design, however a way this production work
could have been improved would have been or me to
do a shadow layer over the image to add more depth to

Merch production
 Next, I moved onto working on my second merchandise
in which I dressed up as Jacob frye then took a picture
of my self looking at the camera whilst showing a blade
sticking out of a gauntlet, I am wearing on my right arm
then exporting the photo over to adobe photoshop and
taking out the background then adding filters to the
image until it looks like a cartoon image but also adding
a shadow over where my eyes were like in many
assassin's creed posters, then like before I placed the
design over a picture of myself wearing some clothes.
 Overall, I'm quite happy with how this production went
as I feel the technique I used, allowed me to create a
convincing look to my second merch design making it
look like it was drawn by someone by hand. However,
a way I feel this production could have been improved
would have been to have used the other images I had
of myself dress up and do the same process with them
and see which would have made the better merch
design.

Website production
 The when I was finished with each merch design, I
moved onto making my merchandise website in which
I began create my merch page on the web site with
each design having a jumper of t-shirt with even a
selection od color any visitor may want then the
purchase pages themselves I also did an introduction
page about what the website is about a catalog page
for myself and other content creators, a contact page
and a design it your self page.
 With that in mind I'm happy to say I'm quite proud with
how the website came out thanks to the production
methods I used along side the tools of wix, however
an improvement I could have made to my production
would be to added more details to certain page to
make sure it fit in with what is expected rom a
merchandise website.

Positives

Episode 1
Overall, I'm quite happy with how the episode turned out as I feel I was able to
implement some funny jokes into my review sticking to the comedic tone I
wanted for my review series but also, I feel I had an acerate description of the
plot and I feel I had good reasons as to why I gave the episode the rating it
got, however there are improvements that could have been made to the
episode such as making my audio clearer and making sure each plot image is
the same size.

episode had such a low score.
Negatives
1. The image sizes are yet again
inconstant.
2. Sometime the audio is hard to

creatures even thou it was
said that it wouldn’t.

Episode 2
When it comes to this episode, I am happy with it as the joke I have in the
episode help the review series stay on track with it intended comedic tone,
also I feel I gave good reason as to why the episode got such a low score
compared to the last one, but also feel the machinima accurately matches with
the audio creating the illusion that the character is talking. However, I feel
some improvement that could have been made to the episode would have
been to stick to what was said earlier as to not show the spider creature in the
episode but to redo the audio to where it is more clearly.

Overall, when it comes to episode, I'm quite happy with how the episode came
out as I feel my plot synopsis was accurate to the plot but didn’t reveal too
much to where the viewer will still be able to watch the episode and be
surprised, but also, I let my joke lowed smoothly with the plot synopsis to
where when a joke started it didn’t feel jarring to the viewer and finally, I feel
my conclusion gives good reasons as to why it gets the rating it gets.
However, the episode could have been improved if I had tried to find more
clearer images but also redone the audio so it could be easier to understand.

In conclusion I am quite happy with how this episode turned out as the joke hit
at the right time and help the series stick to it comedic tone, and that the plot
synopsis is accurate to the plot providing an accurate picture to the audience
and finally the conclusion gives good reasons as to why the episode gets the
rating it gets. However, improvement that can be made to this episode are to
make sure the narrator doesn’t sound board and also to have image at the
same consistent size.

Overall, I'm not as happy with this episode as the episode dose have the
machinima match up with the audio and the plot synopsis is accurate to the
plot and the conclusion gives good reason as to why the episode got the rating
it got. However, it didn’t have a comedic joke within it breaking the comedic
tone of the series. However, a way this episode could have been made better
would be to add a comedic joke to the episode keeping the tone of the
comedic tone of the series but also would have been to have the image sizes
be consistent with each other and finally redo the audio to make sure it is easy
to hear and understand.

Overall, I'm very happy with how this episode came out as the plot image
sizes were finally consistent amongst each other, the conclusion give good
reason as to why the episode gets the rating it gets, the machinima matched
up with the audio creating the illusion of the character talking. However, an
improvement that could be made to make the quality of the episode better
would have been to redo the audio the where all of it was easy to hear and
understand.

To conclude with I am very happy with how my series finally came out as my
plot synopsis was accurate to the plot, the image sizes were consistent with
one another, with the conclusion giving good reason as to why the episode
and the series as a whole got the rating they got. However, an improvement I
could have made to make the episode better would have been to redo the
audio the where all of it was easy to hear and understand but also slow down
the narration, so people know what is being said.

Design 1
What I liked about this
design.
What I liked about this design was the
choice of art style as it allows for two
separate types of media such as halo
and Pokémon look normal together, but
also, I liked my design of a braxin as I
feel that the design helps the shirt pop
and stand out and finally, I like the quote
and how it was divvied evenly between
halo and Pokémon because it shows the
shirt is a cross over if the design itself
didn’t give that fact away.
Overall, I'm quite happy with how the
design turned out and I feel it would fit
into what would be expected of a
merchandise design but different enough
to stand out on its own.

What I didn’t like about this design was
the way the helmet of my character
turned out as I feel that it didn’t fit with
the image style I was going for, but also,
I didn’t like how there wasn't much depth
in my design.

What I could have improved would have been to redo the drawing of the helmet of my character by doing a few experiment until I
found the right look that would fit the design as a whole and also draw some shadow lines onto the design to give the characters and

What I liked about this
design.
What I liked about this design was the
way the filters I used on the image give it
a cartoony yet still semie realistic look to
it I also like the use of the font for the
quote as it gives a hint as to what the
assassin is about to do to the templars
as they are the enemy of the assassins
and is a funny joke to assassin creed
fans to which the design is base of the
game series with the same name.
What I didn’t like about this
design.
What I didn’t like about the design is that
some of the pieces of clothing I'm
wearing sort of blend together when
under a filter but also the pose the
character is in as I feel its not dynamic
enough.
What I could have improved.
What I could have done to improve my project would have been to do different poses during shooting and choosing which pose was the best
for the shirt design and also put a light on my self during hooting so my clothes would appear lighter so when I would put filters over the image
the clothing would look like they were merged together.

What I liked.
What I liked about my merchandise website was the
way I was able to make it feel authentic as its not just
my brand on the website it has other creators such as
focie and halo canon like existing website as they sell
all sort of merchandise from different creators but
also the way I presented my product as it had a
description of the item it price and it name another
way it felt more authentic was the different pages it
had from the home page the catalog page and the
pages with in it, to the contact page and finally the
what I didn’t like
What I didn’t like about my website was ho it wasn't
able to transition smoothly from my header to the
page ground as the background is a few shades of
matching the botom off the header.
What I could improve
What I could improve is by making sure next time
the background matches accurately with the bottom
of the header.

 Overall, what did you think about the series? Overall, I enjoyed the review
series as I found it to be informative and funny with one of my favorite
aspect of the review series is the use of the halo 5 machinima to represent
the presenter as I found it to be creative and original as not many creator
use this type of presenting so it helps the series standout but still sticking to
what is commonly found in a review series.
 What do you think could have been improved? What could have been
improved in the review series would have been to make sure that the plot
images remain the same size of each other to help keep consistency and
also make the audio louder and clearer as to not distract the viewer so they
can just enjoy the video.

 Overall, what did you think about the series? Overall, I enjoyed the review
series as I found it to be very amusing and gives me the information, I need
to make my own choice with my personal aspect of the series being the
images used in the review series helping explaining what going on in the
plot but not revealing to much so if I watch the series Ill still be surprised of
what ill find in the episode.
 What do you think could have been improved? What could have been
improved in the review series would have been to make sure the audio was
clear and easy to understand throughout the review and to make sure the
images used in the plot synopsis were consistent with one another.

 What did you think about the merchandise designs, and would you buy
them? Personally, I loved the design of the shirts as I found them to be
unique and creative especially the I never game alone shirt as I loved the
design of the braxin and the human character which help the shirt stand out
amongst competitors and I found the looks like it stabby stabby time to be
very unique as well.
 What would you improve? Although what I would have improved about the
desig would have been to add more shadows to the I never game alone
design to help give the design more depth but also redesign the helmet the
character was wearing to fit the art style.

 What did you think about the merchandise designs, and would you buy them?
Overall, I liked the merchandise design specifically the its stabby stabby time as I
liked how the design matches what the phrase says on the shirt like the character
is saying it himself and I also like the semi realistic but cartoonish art style the
design had, I also liked the I never game alone shirt.
 What would you improve? What I would have improved would have been to
brighten up the character on the looks like its stabby stabby time as when it come
to the balde it looks like it merged with the coat the character is wearing so
brightening up the design might help the blade stand out against the coat but also, I
would have added more shadows to the I never game alone design to make it look
more dimensional.

Final concept? Does your production
still reflect your proposed project?
When it comes to my to my final concept most of my project reflects what I had planned as my
episode reflected what I had planned in my story boards how ever when it came to my merchandise
designs it change quite a lot as in the original concept for design 1, I planned to have my character in
pjames with a rowlet printed on it saying wake me when I evolve however what ended up being the
final design was myself with a regular shirt on with a mega ring on my prosthetic arm thou the braxin
design stayed the same from the concept including the rest of the concept for my character such as
the helmet he would wear and the prosthetic arm. Also, the second merchandise design stayed
mostly the same form the concept the only difference being that the character didn’t have a helmet
under the hood with the types assassin the character would be dressed as, and the art style were all
the same. The merchandise website final design was quite different from the initial concept as a third
product would have been sold which would have been a jacket with the design printed on it however
in the final design it was just a shirt and hoodie, thou the header for the website stayed exactly the
same from the concept design, thou over all my final concept still reflected my proposed project of a

How you dealt with TECHNICAL problems?
When it came to technical problems thankfully, I didn’t have any during this
project however I had set in place contingency plans in which if my laptop
broke down then I would use the college computer to continue my work until
my laptop was fixed or if my editing software glitched out and shutdown then I
would constantly save my work but also use similar programs to continue my
project, so overall when it came to technical problem even if I had them thanks
to my planning I would have still been abel to finish my project on time.

How you dealt with MANAGEMENT
problems?
When it came to management problems the way I with it was if a certain
aspect of my work may have been falling behind then I would take some time
form my days off to help get the project back on track and on time such as if I
wasn't quite done editing an episode or finishing a printed design for my
merchandise or pages for my merchandise website.

Do you think you met the brief?
Overall looking at my final work I am confident to say that I met the brief with
my review series and merchandise including my merch website as each tested
different aspect of my albitites as my review series tested my ability in sound
and video editing and the merch design tested my creative albitites to create
an original design for a t-shirt but still have it share similarities with existing
products
