Etymology Essay
Crafting an essay on etymology can prove to be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task.
Delving into the roots and origins of words requires a meticulous approach, as it demands a
comprehensive understanding of linguistic history, cultural evolution, and semantic shifts over
time. The complexity of tracing the etymology of words lies in navigating through various
languages, deciphering historical contexts, and discerning the nuanced transformations that
language undergoes.
To start, one must have a solid foundation in linguistics and etymological research techniques.
The task involves consulting dictionaries, scholarly articles, historical texts, and linguistic
databases. Each word carries a unique journey, and uncovering its etymology often involves
unraveling a tapestry of influences from different cultures and periods. This intricate process
requires patience, analytical skills, and a keen eye for linguistic patterns.
Moreover, writing an etymology essay demands an ability to articulate the findings in a cohesive
narrative. Conveying the evolution of a word or a group of words in a structured and engaging
manner is essential. Balancing historical insights with linguistic analysis, and connecting the dots
to reveal the broader implications of these etymological explorations, adds another layer of
complexity.
The challenge is not merely in presenting a factual account of the word's origin but also in
exploring its cultural and social significance. Unearthing the layers of meaning attached to a
word over time requires a deep understanding of the context in which it emerged and how it
evolved within different linguistic communities.
In conclusion, the difficulty in crafting an etymology essay lies in the intricate process of
unraveling the historical threads that weave into the fabric of language. It demands a blend of
linguistic expertise, research skills, and a talent for storytelling. Successfully navigating these
challenges can result in a rich and insightful exploration of the roots and transformations of
language.

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Ssdm
SSADM is an analysis and design methodology that follows a structural tactic for
Implementation of a system. In the beginning of 80th of the past century this method
was developed for government of Great Britain. In 1993 it was accepted as the
national standard of Great Britain and as a reason the SSADM usage is expedient for
those who work with governmental organizations and this method is a standard for
these organizations.
Unlike the conventional approach SSADM is DATA driven and data modeling
begins very early in the development of Information system. . SSADM may also
represent the document led approach to system design, and can be contrasts with
Rapid Application Development Method such as Dynamic System Development
Model (DSDM).
Assumptions are as follows:
* business methods change often
* IS processes will need to reflect changes
* Underlying data in the system changes very little ... Show more content on

Advantage of SSADM
Timelines: On the whole SSADM allows for the chance to plan, direct and control a
project well.
Usability: emphasizes the analysis of user requirements. Additionally system model
will be developed and a helpful analysis will be carried out. It has got an ability to
change in business environment. Documentation of project development is recorded
critically and this helps to address the planning of the project to the actual
requirement of the business.
Effective use of skill: It can be easily taught to employees because it does not need a
special expertise.
Better quality: It helps to cut mistakes of information system by telling a certain
quality level in the beginning and often reviewing the new system.
SSADM increases the overall productivity of the project and the organization by
meeting business needs, ensures better quality, improving on the dot delivery and
engaging human resources successfully.

Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was
considered as one of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many
ideas that profoundly influenced social theory and social research. For sociology as a
whole, Weber s study of sociology is theoretical historical, because he had the idea
of rationalization based on his observations from the Protestant Work Ethic and
other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the development of one of
the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had supported the
view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the
individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society.
Weber had changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical
perspective, based on his contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil
Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch
735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of humanitarian and religious
convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal parliamentary
deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid
attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist
ideas and methodology (Winch 735). Later, he engaged in the University of
Heidelberg to study law, then he transferred to the University

The African Methodist Episcopal Church Essay examples
The African Methodist Episcopal Church also known as the AME Church,
represents a long history of people going from struggles to success, from
embarrassment to pride, from slaves to free. It is my intention to prove that the
name African Methodist Episcopal represents equality and freedom to worship
God, no matter what color skin a person was blessed to be born with. The thesis is
this: While both Whites and Africans believed in the worship of God, whites
believed in the oppression of the Africans freedom to serve God in their own way,
blacks defended their own right to worship by the development of their own church.
According to Andrew White, a well known author for the AME denomination, The

They were not granted the ability to worship without fear. Fahlbush, stated, The U.S.
Civil War ended slavery as a political institution. The discord of the war gave African
Americans in the South freedom to worship among themselves. It was within this
period that African Americans, despite contrary white opinion, developed and set up
churches among themselves . In 1816, Richard Allen founded the first African
American led church in the country, the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The
African Methodist Episcopal Church was the first major religious denomination in
the western world that originated because of sociological and not theological
differences. It was the first African American denomination organized and
incorporated in the US. The church was established in what was known as the
Blacksmith Shop Meeting House. By 1786 blacks made up about 10 percent of the
Methodist church in the United States, and though whites and blacks often
worshiped together, blacks enjoyed no real freedom or equality. Segregated seating
was typical; the area reserved for blacks was usually called the Negro Pew or the
African Corner.

Richard Allen born a slave in 1760 and later became one of America s strongest
early advocates for racial equality. Allen was born to a biracial mother and an
African father who were both slaves at the time of his birth. Richard Allen had no

African American Males And Capital Punishment
African American Males and Capital Punishment We simply cannot say we live in a
country that offers equal justice to all Americans when racial disparities plague the
system by which our society imposes the ultimate punishment. (Senator Russ
Feingold, 2003). It has been proven that death sentencing across the USA is
determined by the raceof the victim and race of the defendant. In 1990, there was a
report from the General Accounting office which concluded that those who
murdered whites were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who
murdered blacks. (Focus, 2003) This injustice amongst us are because people are
scared and don t know. They don t know whether a black man is pulling out a gun,
their phone, wallet, etc. So just to remain safe, they retaliate by killing our men.
Society has grown to function on the fear of black men. Capitalism and the
imprisonment of black peoplehave become profitable. They ve made a big business
to just imprison black men. Black men are inheritably a threat to the capitalist
structure of America, it protects their money, their politics, and their society.

Where the Wild Things Are: Comparison of the book vs. the movie
Many movies made today were sourced from books whose story was rewritten as a

Sarcasm In Figurative Speech
During conversations between adults there is an understanding that sarcasm and
irony is not used for the purpose to be insulting but it is used for humor. Children
between the ages of five and six years old started to understand the meaning behind
sarcasm and irony but do not grasp the objective of sarcastic and ironic speech.
Once children have reached the ages between nine and ten years old, they began
understanding the humorous purposed of sarcasm. Theory of mind which allowed
the child to predict someone else s thoughts is an important social cognitive
development that children needed that allowed them to comprehend figurative
speech. Children exposed to sarcasm which was attained through personal
experience allowed them to understand that sarcasm can be lighthearted and
humorous. The authors investigated the age at which children distinguished
figurative speech. Children at ages of five and six years old possessed a pre
perceived notion that regarded the speaker s use of sarcasm as insulting. The
children did not perceived sarcasm as humorous. The researchers administered an
experiment on children between the ages of five and six years old as well as children
between the ages of nine and ten years old. The researchers used a puppetshow to
depict different scenarios of sarcasm and irony. The first situation depicted the
speaker which is depicted as a puppet commented an insulting remark toward the
other speaker regarding a failed action; This situation represented

by the passing of the Tea Act of 1773, which allowed for tea sold by British

Essay On Transcendentalism In The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an anti transcendentalist who lived during the 19th century.
Obsessed with his great uncle, judge Hathorne, he studied the Puritan way of life.
Hawthorne wrote an array of short stories and books about Puritan societies. His anti
transcendentalist ideas and beliefs are seen all throughout his pieces of work. In in
one of his books, The Scarlet Letter, he depicts the lives of Hester Prynne, her
daughter Pearl, and the people in the town with her. Hester is the town seamstress
and she commits adultery with Mr. Dimmesdale, the reverend. Hester has a child
whom she names Pearl. As punishment for her crime she has to wear a scarlet letter A
on her chest. In the Scarlet Letter Hawthorne uses Reverend Dimmesdale, a... Show

This adds to the theme of guilt by having Dimmesdale being guilty all the time for
his sins and his actions in the book being motivated by this feeling. Second,
Hawthorne uses a leech as a symbol for guilt. Roger Chillingworth is the town s
doctor is also Hester s Husband. When Chillingworth first came to the new world he
went ahead of head of Hester, being captured by Indians, everyone thought he was
dead. When he found out about Hester committing adultery, infuriated he vowed to
seek revenge on whoever Hester committed adultery with. Hathorne explains that
Dimmesdale, like many other personages of especial sanctity...was haunted either by
Satan himself, or Satan s emissary, in the guise of Roger Chillingworth. (Hawthorne
124), Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is haunted by the devil and that
Chillingworth is the devil. This shows that a leech is a symbol of guilt because in
the 17th century doctors were called leeches. Chillingworth is literally being called a
leech and is sucking the life out of Dimmesdale by haunting him. To further support
that Chillingworth is being called a leech by Hawthorne, chapter 9 of the scarlet
letter is called The Leech and the chapter is all about Dimmesdale and Chillingworth.
Hawthorne tells us trusting no man as his friend, he could not recognize his enemy
when the latter actually appeared. Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is so
blinded by guilt that he cannot

Financially, the company has been doing well. From December 2005 to December

income. Google s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin had a mission to fulfill and
that mission was to develop a new approach to online search that took root in a
Stanford University dorm room.
Google is now widely recognized as the world s largest search engine, an easy to
use free service that usually returns relevant results in a fraction of a second.
Google s organizational structure quickly became the search engine of choice for
a vast number of internet browsers, requiring web developers to focus heavily on
optimizing page visibility for Google s crawlers. Ensuring quick access to every
file on a site can mean more pages get indexed, allowing for better keyword results.
Many developers focus on directory structure to enhance results, a practice that can
make most sites, especially those containing hundreds or thousands of pages, easy to
manage. Still, a directory must be more than a random organization of folders and
files. Good directories improve indexing speed and provide an organizational
structure to the site.
Lary Page and Sergey Brin had a vision of a unique culture for their company. They
believed in giving freedom to their employees, freedom to share their ideas, freedom
to use their time, freedom to chose their projects, freedom to live their life

Abstract The ultimate goal of Fiber Wireless (FI WI) networks is to convergence of
various optical and wireless technologies under a single infrastructure in order to take
advantage of their complementary features and therefore providing a network
capable of supporting bandwidth hungry emerging applications for both fixed and
mobile clients. The Fi Wi architecture is based on radio ... Show more content on

This means that traffic generated from users communicating only in the wireless
network does not have to be propagated towards the optical network as happens
with RoF technology. Thus, distributed MAC protocols, e.g. IEEE 802.11b, avoid
the fiber s extra propagation delays that degrade their performance. This feature
removes a possible limitation regarding the length of the deployed fiber while it
adds a degree of resiliency to the system since local wireless traffic can be served
even when connectivity with the optical segment is lost.

OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS A growing number of providers worldwide are
adopting optical technologies in the access network and towards the client s
premises (Fiber to the Home or FTTH) due to optical fiber s ability to provide huge
amounts of bandwidth in longer distances than copper, immunity to
electromagnetic interference and inherent security. Fiber generally should be
installed underground for safety reasons and therefore its deployment is an
expensive procedure. This is mitigated by deploying a tree like network topology
where a part of it is being shared by many clients. Each client is connected via a
dedicated fiber to a Remote Node (RN) which in turn is connected via a single fiber
to a CO. In general two technologies can be used for this implementation
Uninformed Voting And The Voting Essay
Uninformed voting is a large problem in America. I believe the Get Out the Vote
movement is a powerful driving force behind this issue. They encourage people,
through pressure and patriotic guilt, to vote in elections they otherwise were not
going to and are likely uninformed about. They use tactics, some legal, some not, to
achieve their goals of higher turnout in elections.
One tactic used by a small fringe branch of the Get Out the Vote movement is
bribing of the underprivileged for their vote, promising a ride to the polls and a meal
or some other good in exchange for voting for said party s candidate. There are
stories about this sort of activity in nearly all major elections. Whether or not you
believe uninformed voting is a problem in America, this is a form of voter fraud
and is illegal. I understand not all homeless and underprivileged are uninformed
and they may not even vote the way they agree to; however a large majority are
blindly selling their vote loyalty for personal gain and making an uninformed
decision on the ballet as a result. This illegal activity however, is far from a large
percentage of the uninformed voter pool.
To understand the cause of the uninformed voter phenomenon, we must first look at
why Americans are uninformed in the first place. To become an uninformed voter
you must first be a member of a larger pool that I will call uninformed Americans.
How can Americans be uninformed about current events and politics in today s
world, with

Cuba In The 18th Century
The economies of Cuba and Puerto Rico are very similar during the 16th, 17th, and
18th centuries. As Spain colonized these two islands in the 16th century under the
idea that gold was abundant. Thus in turn the islands became a safe port for Spain
and her vessels. It also set out to be a huge migration from the Spainto the islands,
because everyone was set to search for gold. . This turned out to be short lived as
the mining of gold peaked in 1517 till 1819. By Spain using Cuba and Puerto Rico
for mining gold they needed slave laborers as the local Indians. The Indians soon
became unsatisfied with their new conditions of living, they became hostile and
many not able to cope with being slaves committed suicide and genocide. By 1540

The Indians now called People of Color, were once free on their own land are now
forced to cultivate it. Although the original intent of the encomienda was to
reduce the abuses of forced labor (repartimiento) employed shortly after the
discovery of the New World, in practice it became a form of enslavement. As
legally defined in 1503, an encomienda (from encomendar, to entrust ) consisted of
a grant by the crown to a conquistador, soldier, official, or others of a specified
number of Indians living in a particular area. The receiver of the grant, the
encomendero, could exact tribute from the Indians in gold, in kind, or in labor and
was required to protect them and instruct them in the Christian faith. The
encomienda did not include a grant of land, but in practice the encomenderos
gained control of the Indians lands and failed to fulfill their obligations to the
Indian population. Since the increase of settlers in islands, and the suicide of many
of the Indians, resulted in Spain going to Africa to get slave s to mine and cultivate.
The African slaves are the third society to merge on to the islands. The People of
Color and Slaves have outnumbered the whites significantly. As the years past, these
three societies seem to merge into one society, with very big cultural significance in

Building A New House For The Singapore s Northern
Coast...
The scenario taken for the evaluation of the procurement methods is to build a new
house for the client on the Auckland s Northern coast with a budget of $2 million.
The objective for this report is to outline the client s needs as specified, analyse the
procurement methods sorted out by the client and clearly state the advantages,
disadvantages and the risks for each of the procurement method sorted out.
Firstly, the package deal method was selected where the client needs to purchase a
full package from a developer which includes a house and a section.
The other method that was selected is a traditional form of procurement where the
client will hire an architect for designing his house after having sited purchasing a
suitable area, then choose a main contractor for the project through competitive
tendering method.
The third method was to select a main contractor and engage him on the basis of
design and construct after having located the site and obtained it.
In each of the procurement method, there are advantages and disadvantages being
analysed in accordance with the client s requirements, which will help the client have
a better perspective of the happenings of his project.
Lastly the last segment of the report, there is also another alternative procurement
method that is selected for the client. The reason for selecting the alternative method
of procurement is not only giving the suggestion or additional options for the client,
but it is also to meet the needs of
Occupational Health And Safety Management System
Introduction
Despite undeniable efforts investing in safety and health within the workplace,
occupational accidents continue to account for injuries and deaths every year
(Cadieux et al, 2006). In Quebec alone in the year of 2004, 176 deaths and 128,104
occupational injuries were registered by the National OHS board (Cadieux et al,
2006). In order to improve these rates worldwide, Occupational Health and Safety
Management systems are developed and implemented in the workplace.
An Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is a planned,
documented and verifiable method of managing workplace hazards and their
associated risks (Pillay, 2016). An OHSMS provides a structure that allows an
organisation to identify and control health and safety risks within the organisation.
The implementation of such structures promotes a safe and healthy working
environment which, in turn, will reduce the potential for accidents in the workplace
whilst aiding legislative compliance and improving the overall performance of the
organisation. Comparing and contrasting OHSMSs through the analysis of available
literature allows one to determine the most appropriate management system for their
organisation.
The objective of this analysis is to;
Summarise the literature on Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
OHSAS 18001 and AZ/NZS 4801.
Compare and critically analyse the two Occupational Health and Safety Management
systems OHSAS 18001 and AS/NZS 4801 and subsequently;
Baseball in America Essay
Baseball in America is about as common as Cricket is to Indian Nations. Baseball
was played and was also participated by everyone. People played it everywhere from
large cities to even small towns. Children and even adults were playing. The game of
baseball was invented between 1861 and 1865 which was before the American Civil
War. Many of the people that know of the game of baseball reference as the National

20th century most large cities in the eastern United States had a professional

that has impact baseball majorly. Some of them are Pete Rose when he bet on

Pete Rose was born in 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio and while he was growing up a
young kid he cheered for the hometown team which was the Cincinnati Reds. Once
he retired from the game of baseball in 1986 he was the all time leader in hits,

Abraham Lincoln s Assassination Of President
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination
President Abraham Lincoln was the first United States president ever to be
assassinated while in office. He was president during the Civil War and had many
people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the
man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln,
John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s
capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809
in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy
Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had
an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant.
Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the
classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow
one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many
people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a
rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became
interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam.
He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very
interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of
Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the

Fan Labor Definition
Social networking sites are web based and applications that allows users to
communicate via web to share their content or follow with other users. For example
the most well known online networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
When you sign up to these sites it asked you to make a profile, which can be time
consuming, but you can alter it for your needs as an enjoyment. Online networking
has become a very significant piece of social communications inside our society. For
example when you meet another person, one of the principal things you do is include

However if free labor means that we are spending time working on our profile

compare free labor to paid work. Those that consider it pleasurable and a wonderful

Short Story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas
Caitlin Doyle Mr. Rojas English III 5В° January 13 2015 The short story, The
Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas , by Ursula K. LeGuin, is a disturbing allegory
that explains a shocking other world, a promise of happiness, and an everlasting
sense of security. LeGuin describes that the contentment of others exists
completely from someone else s expense. The utopian society seems unimaginable,
a place so perfect that there is no need for rules or conformity. In order for this
town to continue in bliss a child must be sacrificed in a broom closet, in its own
feces, covered in gruesome sores. The story of Omelas closely connects with many
modern day corporations, ranging from animal abuse, the mistreatment of workers
(ie. sweatshops), loosely organized groupings or commercial enterprises, such as
drug cartels (Who Is behind Mexico s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seems to be little help for those who suffer day to day from these cruel
organizations. The solution in Omelas for many people is to overcome their guilt
by literally walking away from the town. Many have come to a point where they
can no longer bear the thought of one suffering for another s happiness . The
government can be seen as the ones who walk away (at the end of the story) due to
its efforts to eliminate the problem. There have been countless cases in which
corpses have been excavated, kidnappings left unsolved, and families left in
desperation. At this occurrence, the Cartel and their members roam freely,
purchasing yachts, houses, etc. The cartels are fully aware of their actions and the
impact they have on the people of Mexico. Le Guin explains, It is the existence of
the child, and their knowledge of its existence, that makes possible the nobility of
their architecture, the poignancy of their music, the profundity of their science...

Internet Predators
Why we should be worried about the Deep web
Unknown to most, the Deep Web actually exists and only takes a few clicks on
your computer to access it, if you know what you re doing. Also unknown to most
is the illegal activity and the online predators that are roaming all over the web.
These predators can be financial predators or sexual predators. Throughout this
essay I will be explaining three themes in chronological order. Financial predators,
sexual predators, and discussing why the illegal activity on the Deep web is bad for
society.
Financial predators are everywhere on the web, and they might cost you a fortune.
Financial predators host scams and use fake identities to get bank details to rip you
off through an online purchase that you think is safe. An example of a ... Show more

As thousands of sexual predators roam the web and on most commonly used sites,
only 18% of youth use chat rooms, however the majority of internet initiated sex
crimes against children are initiated in chat rooms. An example of a sexual
predator could be an online predator targeting young victims trying to get sexual
related images from them by targeting young vulnerable people, unable to judge
the seriousness of the situation or through blackmail. This is what happened in the
case of Scottish teenager Daniel Perry earlier this year, resulting in his suicide.
Sexual predators can also be connected to the Deep web by exploiting nudity or
sexual content of a child or young adult on a CP website, which stands for child
pornography. These can also be sold on the Deep web for an exchange of bitcoin.
These are just more examples of why we should be worried and most importantly
informed of how dangerous the Deep web is so we can avoid the bad situations we
may come
Persuasive Speech On What You Eat Is Who You Are
Specific Purpose: To Question my audience on what you eat is who you are.
Central Idea: Government might sound like the single to regulate obesity but what
expense of freedom you must give in order to eradicate obesity. Only you are
defined of your nutritional diet and health by what you eat. After all, don t you
decide what to buy or eat?
INTRODUCTION
1)The Attention Step
a)(Attention Getter/Relevancy Statement)
i)Let s start off with a silly scenario: What if you were stranded on an island and
you were give one fully prepare meal of any choice, what will it? .... Will it have
any vegetables? Does it contains fruits? Any sugars? Any fats? What flavors you
like such as sweet, sour, or savory? ii) Based on a rhetorical question with a finite
amount of correct answers, I just ask what the most favorite meal is. Seems simple
and easy but the real question but nevertheless it is important question to ask. It will
be mention later to make point about freedom to choice for you.
b)(Credibility Statement)
i)I m was always interested in how other people, not myself, live their normal lives
such as what they do, where they work, and how they eat. Most of you can say the
same to other people such as friends and family. It is a natural curiosity. ii) The same
curiosity we have when talking about food, mostly the part about what other people
eat. It also easy to complement or criticized a person s meal of choice but have
done the same for yourselves? Not just for some guilty pleasures or excuse for
dessert, but in everyday general. iii) We live in a world were fast food can order
cheap and quick. There is no time needed to prepare or cook. And with all the choices
available such as Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Italian, and American restaurants
and take outs throughout the country, how would we ever decide to eat.
c)(Preview)
i)In this presentation, I will be discussing facts and statistics of America s current
obesity epidemic, a need for a government intervention, and how you are your own
leader in the fight against obesity.
(Transition) Before diving in the aspect of whenever or not should the government
regulate obesity, we must acknowledge the facts regarding about obesity in the US.

2)The Need Step
Taking a Look at the Jazz Age
World War 1 has come to an end, and America is rejoicing. The Jazz Age was a time
of change and new beginnings for Americans. During the Jazz Age, the United States
erupted in new musical and cultural changes. These changes can be seen through the
shift in literature, from conservative to contemporary writings, by literary giants like
F. Scott Fitzgeraldand Bessie Smith. The Jazz Agewas known as the Roaring
Twenties, and is still popular today due to its infamous jazzmusic, flappers, and
prohibition. The Jazz Age was an exciting, and contemporary time period in American
history.
During the Jazz Age, the U.S was the setting of many cultural changes, artistic
innovation, and social changes. World War 1 ended in 1918 , leading to the start
of the Jazz Age. The U.S was still undergoing many reparations from World War 1,
which led to many cultural changes during the 20s. Americans had money,
freedom and peace. People became less conservative and wanted more to just have
a good time. ( The Roaring 20 s: The Jazz Age History For Dummies ) After the end
of the war, Americans were more relaxed and wanted to live freely. This is evident
through many new ideas and feeling among the citizens of the U.S. One of these new
ideas was bootlegging, which led to the formation of speakeasies. Prohibition began
in 1920, which banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating
liquors. Speakeasy is an establishment that illegally sold banned alcoholic beverages.

Minors Should Not Use Social Media
I believe minors should be able to use web pages and social media even if they
spend too much time using it, however it also has benefits in the long run because
it makes minors be up to date with what s happening around the world. Even
though it looks like a bad idea minors will have a more positive impact. Every day
minors get involve in web pages and social media which may sound as a bad thing
but it s not. With social media and web pages minors are able to communicate
much faster. This helps in emergencies when you don t have service, but if you log
into social media you are able to message people through your phone if you have wi
fi which you don t have to pay for and it almost everywhere. Furthermore minors are
able to know what s happening
Social Network And Its Effects On The Media
Facebook Uncovered
Facebook has always strived on the belief that this social network is where users
connect with not just friends but with the expansive world around them. Recently
in the last several years, some Facebook users have been expose to a world that
they were not prepared or intend to see. Gory visuals of a sinister and graphic
nature that document this reality of debauchery has become viral on some user s
news feed. Images and videos of dead bodies, bloody car accidents, mutilations and
animal cruelty are a fragment of what users were exposed to during the November
2011 gore porn link spam attack (Sarachik 2011). Facebook was able to close the
exploit with the help of Facebook s own technician after being informed of the
problem. Still images and videos depicting real life blood and gore still finds their
way on Facebook, where they can potentially be seen by hundreds of millions of
users. Shortly after images of the execution of James Foley by the Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria (ISIS) appeared online on Facebook, a safety advisor for the
company calls for the implementation of safety measures that would prevent users
from accidentally accessing the images (Kelion 2014). In recent years Facebook
have been increasingly used by some users on the social network to post graphic
content and obscene pornographic material and the reason for this is because the
social network is not effectively regulating and monitoring the content. The reasons
for why Facebook needs
Parental Relationships In Music Of The Swamp, And

Introspection on Parental Relationships
Relationships between parents and children are an important aspect of life. It forms
a basis of one s life, through childhood, in terms of learning morals and developing
one s personality. Lewis Nordan, the author of Music of the Swamp, and Alison
Bechdel, the author of Fun Home, describe their version of a parent child relationship
by crafting their stories in which the children strive for love and acceptance, while
receiving doubt, sadness, and distance from their parents, and as a result, the children
acquire a lifelong impact on their personality. In Music of the Swamp, Sugar
Mecklin has a alcoholic father and a reserved mother. Both parents seem distressed,
because of their geography, or at one another, and do not seem to enlighten Sugar by
any means. Their influence, especially his father s, is strong, and since most of
Sugar s actions are focused on either proving his parents wrong, or mirroring their
emotions, Sugar is putting his own happiness at stake. For instance, Sugar s father
always indicates to him that their geography, the Delta, is surrounded by death,
therefore Sugar takes his father s persistent remark as a metaphorical challenge to
prove his father wrong; he uncontrollably digs in his yard as a result, only to become
additionally depressed from the outcome. Furthermore, Sugar indicates that his father
always encompasses ill luck, and there are multiple incidences in which his father
experiences suicidal
The Importance Of DOT Compliance
The Department of Transportation (DOT) governs the commercial vehicles that
traverse the nation s roadways. DOT compliance is a major concern for transportation
companies of all sizes. Three areas of compliance that many trucking companies
struggle with are driver requirements, DOT permits, and documentation practices.
That s why many turn to outside companies to help guide them and assure they are
fully compliant.
Driver Requirements
Federal law requires all commercial vehicle drivers to undergo a thorough background
check to assure the individual doesn t have a disqualifying criminal background.
What s more, the DOT requires drivers to undergo alcohol and drug screening prior to
employment and subsequently in the event of an accident or other incident. Properly
obtaining background checks and performing drug testing is vitally important. These
vital compliance tasks are often outsourced to a company that specializes in pre
employment screening to assure compliance with regulations and fairness to drivers.
Obtaining Permits
The first, and most important permit that any trucking company needs is a USDOT
number. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires that all
commercially operated vehicles that use federal roadways obtain and maintain a valid
USDOT number. In addition, some states have ... Show more content on

Youngson) Children can have rheumatoid arthritis too. People under the age of 16
are diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or JRA. Juvenile rheumatoid
arthritis is the most common form of arthritis in young people. There are 3 main
types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis; pauciarticular, polyarticular, and systemic.
Pauciarticular JRA typically affects the larger joints such as the knees. It affects
less than 4 joints and is the most common form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It
is most common in females under the age of 8. 20 30% of people with this type of
arthritis develop eye disease as well. Polyarticular JRA affects 30% of children
with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. This type occurs in 5 or more joints and
typically affects the smaller joints such as the fingers. This form also has a
tendency to be symmetric. For example, the left and right wrist are both affected.
Systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is an odd form of arthritis. It is also known
as Still s disease. It is serious because it often affects the child s internal organs as

The abuse and cruelty by humans towards animals have been on the rise as producers
and retailers of cosmetics and drugs rush to position their products in the global
markets. Scientific tests remain a leading player in animal abuse, especially due to
the controlled environment while being experimented (Norton, 157). While there are

This attracted the attention of animal rights activists, urging the consumers to reject
products tested and verified using animal testing (Barnett, n.d.).
A.Nestle and the Beagles
Nestle has also been implicated for restraining food from overfed and obese
beagles and feeding them with low calorie Purina in order to test whether it is able
to reduce weight. This withdrawal of the natural food from the piglets not only
starves them but confuses their growth. The same company has previously fed 60
mice on a diet high in fat to make them obese. Once obese, the same animals fed on
food rich in cinnamon to see if cinnamon can help reverse or retard obesity in human
beings.
B.Yakult and the Mice
Yakult scientists in North Korea on the other hand underfed their mice then gave
them probiotic bacteria. The mice were kept hairless and irradiated. The mice
developed aging wrinkles on their skin. The scientists would use these results to
conclude on the aging effect of the probiotic bacteria. The mice were killed after the
experiment and studied for skin examination.
C.Danone and the Piglets
Danone inserted tubes into the bellies of 8 two week piglets to research on the rate
of absorption of different formula products by babies. The Danone project ended with
one piglet dying after the experiment and a second one being removed from the
experiment due to tube leakage. Instead, these tests should be

2011 2012 Assessment 1 Nick would be suing Angela claiming the full arrears and

by Lord Dunedin in Dunlop v Selfridge Ltd [1915] AC 847 where each party must
give something in return from what is gained from the other party; An act or
forbearance of one party, or the promise thereof, is the price for which the promise
of the other is bought, and the promise thus given for value is enforceable. The

Certain requirements must be met in order to use this Doctrine being that there
must be an existing contractual obligation between the parties which is clear in
Nick and Angela s case being in a 9 month contract, there must be clear and
unequivocal terms which here Nick made the promise for Angela to pay less until
fully recovered. The promisee must have altered his/her position to his/her
detriment in reliance therefore it would be in inequitable to go back on the
promise but I believe that Nick could argue here that there was no reliance as
Angela is in a better financial situation. It must be inequitable for the promisor to
go back on his promise and it was said in Coombe v Coombe [1951] 2 KB 215 that
the doctrine may only be raised as a defence: as a shield and not a sword , this is
applicable for Angela s case. The lottery win by her husband Willy would not have
any relevance in this case as he is not contractually obliged in any way to give
Angela money being a third party husband. It may be argued that Angela is acting
with dirty hands . She continued to pay the reduced rent for a week even though she
had recovered from her illness and this may insinuate she was acting inequitable.
Another argument against Angela is that she made a significant financial gain 3
months after paying the reduced amount and she has a duty to Nick to inform him of
any change in circumstances as in the case of With v O Flanagan [1936] Ch 575.

American Alliance in WWI vs. Our Failing Economy Essays
In World War I many soldiers were sent to Europe to fight for the democracy of
other countries. The idea of being part of the war was to be heroes in one of the
biggest conflict of the world. The U.S. was convinced that if they could send forces
to Europe and help the Allied Forces to win the war, they would gain a better status
worldwide as the country that saved the peace and democracy. Therefore, the United

influenced in how President Hoover handled the situation of the Bonus Marchers was
the fact that the American Communist Party was involved. One of their leaders, John
Pace, was immersed in the protesters with the mission of developing a stronger
manifestation against the government; however, the Communist Party did not have a
big number of people inside of the riot. Although they took responsibility of the

clear if they influenced in the way that the manifestation was done. President Hoover
though, saw that communists were part of this riot and he was afraid of an uprising
in Washington, so he tried everything that was on his power to stop the protest. Also,

Security Clearance
The Security Investigations Service Center (SISC) notified our office that Veronica
Gossa, a contract employee working under Ernst and Young, could not get a security
clearance. Ms. Gossa was outside of the country for 214, thereby making her
ineligible for a security clearance. Ms. Gossa s work with the USPS involves an
audit and access to sensitive financial information. The letter from the Security
Investigations Service Center states, The only other option available now is for the
applicant to obtain an exception letter for a Postal VP to the Chief Inspector for a
residence waiver. There is another issue regarding a name her change that SISC did
not addressed in light of the travel provision making her ineligible for clerance.
In the interest of full disclosure, I receive a call from the Security Investigations
Service Center indicating Mark Hairston, HQ Building Security, today regarding
V. Gossa s access, contacted their office. I spoke with Mr. Hairston, who referred
me to Phil Jones, USPS Postal Police. I learned that someone escorts Ms. Gossa
into the building daily, which appears contrary to the security clearance process.
Effective today, she has exhausted the number of visits allowed, and will not be
allowed to enter the building. Ms. Gossa s has prior Security Clearance Processing
Requests, as such, she would have knowledge that travel outside of the country could
have an effect on employment with the USPS. ... Show more content on

Brief Analysis About Integrated Reporting
The brief analysis about Integrated Reporting Introduction Since the IIRC was found
in 2010, the settlement of integrated reporting has been considered and confirmed by
various committees. With the global development and the coming of information
stage, the enterprises are confronting with more different and comprehensive outside
environments. The decision making and corporate thinking need take more outside
factors into consideration rather than the financial data from the traditional financial
reports. This essay states the main ideas and researches during series of group
studies. It will focus on three conversional topics from four factors. On the first part,
this essay will explain the core definition of integrated and carding the... Show more

The traditional financial report is established on the basis of historical cost ignoring
the influence and lacking of social contribution. For this reason, it is accepted that the
reflection and information from the traditional financial report is not complete (Blair,
1995). Meanwhile, the timely efficiency and forecasting of financial report is lack
(Wallman, 1996). For instance, the soft assets including human resource and talent
capital are not confirmed and evaluated properly. For this reason, the financial report
should have more flexible modes in order to satisfy the shareholders requirements.
Furthermore, the traditional financial report is shortage of social responsibility in
enterprise s exposure. Under this situation, the IIRC announced the relative exposure
daft including five chapters from six dimensions to explore the integrated report s
features. This framework attempts to introduce outside strategies, governances,
current achievements and advanced prospect to reflect the comprehensive
performance of the real company. On this basis of integrated report, the shareholders
or investors could obtain more useful information for their corporate thinking and
decision making. However, the controversy between the traditional financial report
and integrated report has been continued. The following
Irish Potato Famine Research Paper
With its ability to grow in even the worst soil conditions, potatoes were in
abundance in the early nineteenth century in Ireland. A visit to the countryside
would mean seeing endless rows of potato bushes in fields as far as the eye could
see. The potato became the staple of Irish diet, with one third of the population
depending on the root by 1844. But within a year, more than half of the potatocrops
were destroyed by the blight and thus began the Irish Potato Famine. The failure of
the potato crop and its subsequent starvation was attributable to one thing:
monocropping. Irelandactually wasn t alone in fighting blights leading up to the Great
Famine. In fact, much of northern Europe was met with the same disease in their
potato crops. The difference was that other countries fought off the disease by
cultivating different varieties of potatoes and other crops whereas Ireland was left
vulnerable to the blight due to its dependence on one strain of the potato, the Irish
Lumper. Along with crop failure and starvation, monocropping leads to numerous
other environmental and nutritional damages, solvable with one easy solution: grow
different crops! But as the saying goes: money is the root of all evil, and in the case
of monocropping, the economic profits take control of the business.

The remaining amounts of crop are mainly produced into unhealthy foods, which is
also detrimental to human nutrition and diet. Much like the lack of genetic diversity

monocropping bad for the environment, but it is also just as bad for our
Semiotic Analysis In Advertising
Through semiotic analysis, signifiers, myths and paradigmatic analysis an
interpretation of a car insurance ad by the VHV holding company can be made on
many levels. VHV Holding, a German car insurance company, uses sexist ideologies
to sell the idea that you need insurance in case you get into an accident while
distracted by establishing women as sexualized objects and men as beings who are
reckless drivers because of constant sexual thoughts.
Looking at this print advertisement denotatively the viewer sees two nude women
sitting in a bathtub filled with bubbles; one woman is seemingly scrubbing the other
with a brain like one would normally do with a sponge. The caption in the corner is
surrounded by an octagon and reads A man s mindisn t always on the road . The
areas surrounding the two women is mostly tinted blue and white. The woman who
is being cleaned with the brain is looking downwards to the left while the woman
holding the brain is looking directly at the viewer/camera in what many would
consider a sexual way. In the background in the upper left corner candles are lit and
sitting atop of a small table.
According to Sturken the practice of looking is tied to ideology, images are elements
of contemporary advertising and consumer culture through which assumptions about
beauty, desire, glamour, and social value are both constructed and responded to (21).
In this ad we see that an assumption about desire and social value are constructed.

Introduction
It has come to my attention, that employees are concerned over some issues with the
health insurance plan we offer, retirement and saving plans, as well as their time off

educate the employees on their rights and show them how these benefits are best for

Time Off and FMLA Rights
We understand that things happen in a person life that must have actions taken as
soon as possible. There are a few options the employee has as far as time off or leave.
All time off or leaves are unpaid but the employee can choose the time off needed.
1.The fist leave/time off the company offers is a 10 day personal leave. This is for
employees that have worked out their 60 day probation period. You can request
this leave only if your probation period is over. This is an unpaid leave and
employees must return to work after the 10 days or they are considered as job
abandonment at which time termination will follow. 2.The second leave/time off
granted to the employee is a 30 day personal leave. This is for employees that have
worked out their 60 day probation period. You can request this leave only if your
probation period is over. This is an unpaid leave and employees must return to work
after the 30 days or they are considered as job abandonment at which time termination
will follow.
3.The last leave/time off the company offers is FMLA. To qualify for time off
through FMLA, employees must be employed for 12 month and a minimum of 1,250
John F. O Donnell Essay
John F O Donnell is a comedian who has had a history with manic episodes in the
past. Instead of letting his manic episodes rule his entire life, he decided to share
with the audience one of these very episodes, which proved to be very interesting.
John F O Donnell starts off his comedy show with describing where he is in the
situation, what he s carrying with him, and why he s in Dublin in the first place.
He explains to the audience he escaped to Dublin, Ireland because he was terrified
for his life. Saying he had to escape America because he found out that America
was working with SS Nazi s during WW2, and that George Prescott Bush was
working with a company that supplied these Nazis, which is how the Bush family
got their money. This first and, primary delusion is what starts Mr. O Donnell
down the rabbit hole so to speak. While the audio clip did not necessarily say what
exactly acted as the stressor for Mr. O Donnell s episode, they did mention that he
had stopped taking his medication. Mr. O Donnell s secondary task through his
delusions was trying to pass off what information he believed he thought he had on
the CIA. This theory being that people were becoming aware of the conductivity of
life, and if they all did this then the CIA would become obsolete. He then
mentioned, that it was okay because the IRA, and Bono were on his side. With this
next piece of information, you can begin to see where his flight of ideas and agitation
will start to stream from. One
Shadowhunters Research Paper
Preface
Everyone knows the world has an evil side but only a few know just how evil.
Demons exist, though a pure demon is now a rare thing, most of the bloodlines have
been tainted and are now full of half breeds called downworlders. Vampires, Fairies,
Wizards, Shifters, Werewolves and more walk the earth and mundanes, or humans,
see them as other humans. Only other downworlders or Shadowhunters can see them
in their true form.
Shadowhunters, now that is a special breed! They are an advanced race of humans
called Nephilim, born with angel blood. They have the ability to use magic runes,
burned into their bodies by an angel weapon called a stele, to help protect them and
give them strength. They were tasked with defending the mundanes, or humans, of
the world and keeping the downworlders in check. Their job was difficult and
dangerous and their numbers had dwindled greatly over the years. Though very few
of the Shadowhunters remained, they still did all they could ... Show more content on

of the angel Raziel upon the pair and they must vow and unbreakable oath before the

Young and idealistic Valentine, Lucian, and Jocelyn felt that the Shadowhunter laws
needed to be updated and had begun the process of meeting with the Clave council to
voice their ideas. Of course, as they were young, they didn t feel like they were being

The Importance Of Interacting With Children And Youth

According to the article, Interacting with Children and Youth on Issues of Diversity

of two through twelve. Children gradually develop cultural and racial perspective
from an uncomplicated awareness to a more complicated understanding. Children
at the age of two are just aware about physical characteristics, like eye shape, color,
skin and hair color. At the age of three and four children are aware about their own

So then Muslims and Mexicans made marches and responded to the aggressions.
More over when president Trump ordered that all the people without a legal status in
this country be deported, many people from different ethnic groups got together to
protest and change that inequality. The collaboration between different ethnic groups
is essential to form multicultural communities (Ramsey, 2004).
Peer interaction and relationship is one of the most important interpersonal skills that
really support true multicultural education. According to the article, Interacting with
Children and Youth on Issues of Diversity and Bias, Children do not develop their
attitudes about differences in insolation . Children have to interact every day in order
to learn more from their classmates cultures and traditions. The everyday interactions
are very important because they help children have a connection with other children
from different cultural groups. Professionals are responsible in creating a convenient
environment with the appropriate equipment and furniture for social interactions. The
furniture has to be in the correct setting. Students have to be able to work with
different peers. They also have to have eye contact and direct interactions with all
their classmates. Educators have to be aware that children communicate differently
and in some cases educators have to be active participants in those interactions. The

Child Labor Essay
Child Labor Child labor is a pervasive problem throughout the global economy,
especially in the markets of developing countries. With over 90% of the total child
labor market employed in the rural areas of Asia and Africa largely due to lack of
enforcement, it is argued that something has to be done. Although the majority of
people are ethically appalled by child labor, and against the exploitation of
children, is the worldwide eradication of the worst forms of child labor really a
feasible alternative? To answer this question people have to take into account a
variety of factors involving both the economic and social costs, as well as have a
firm understanding of the situations people are faced with in these underdeveloped...

With a vast amount of resources and huge demand for finished goods, child labor
including the worst forms of bonded labor were used in both the US and UK to
produce goods at the lowest possible cost. So to tell governments of impoverished
nations to ban the practices that helped make industrialized nations what they are
today is counterintuitive. For the US and the UK as well as others have relied on
the use of child labor during their time of industrial development. This is a large
reason why some third world governments are willing to turn a blind eye to some
of the practices going on in their countries. Because there is hope that they too will
develop industry by attracting foreign investment with the lure of cheap labor, and
one day be able to emerge as an industrialized nation as did the US and the UK. So
how does child labor help increase investment, and make children better off? This
is a very strong argument for the proponents of child labor. The governments of
these countries understand that a child working 14 hours a day in a factory isn t
what is best for that child. But when you consider the alternatives, is working in a
factory for less than a dollar a day really making a child or their future worse off?
Some would argue no. Primarily because of the economic advantages that can be
gained by luring investment with the promise of high profits due to a cheap labor
market. Krugman outlines many of the benefits that can come from child

Yes.
More than once, customers came to me saying that the toliet paper in the ladies room

Quite a few customers found the labels of the sauces a bit confusing. They said they

Many customers found the marinated chicken to be quite spicy. Some camplained

Yes, I received many of them.

was a large possibility that their hair may fall on to the ice cream. She asked me to

Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will
voluntarily help another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for
altruistic behaviour is seen as a desire to improve the welfare of another person
rather than the anticipation of some reward or for any other reason that might
indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has been
determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of
egoism. Batson et al. s (1997) empathy altruism hypothesis proposes ... Show more

However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left)
then those in the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely
than those in the high empathy condition.
However, it is possible that people who help in such situations do so to avoid
punishment, such as social disapproval that could arise as a result of not helping. To
test that, further research where the potential for negative social evaluation was
manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not appear to explain why
empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al)
The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing
negative states, we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which
is personally rewarding. People learn during childhood that helping others is a
positive behaviour that will make them feel good about themselves. Therefore, the
motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on the anticipated emotional
consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears altruistic is
actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where
participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and

Politics (from Greek: ПЂОїО»О№П„О№ОєПЊП‚ politikos, definition of, for, or

involves the making of a common decision for a group of people, that is, a uniform
decision applying in the same way to all members of the group. It also involves the
use of power by one person to affect the behavior of another person. More narrowly, it
refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance organized control over a
human community, particularly a state. Furthermore, politicsis the study or practice of

Formal Politics refers to the operation of a constitutional system of government and
publicly defined institutions and procedures.[1] Political parties, public policy or
discussions about war and foreign affairs would fall under the category of Formal
Politics.[1] Many people view formal politics as something outside of themselves, but
that can still affect their daily lives.[1]
Informal Politics is understood as forming alliances, exercising power and
protecting and advancing particular ideas or goals. Generally, this includes anything
affecting one s daily life, such as the way an office or household is managed, or
how one person or group exercises influence over another.[1] Informal Politics is
typically understood as everyday politics, hence the idea that politics is everywhere

Hamlet Foils
Decisions
In the play Hamlet, Shakespeare incorporates the theme that an individual s decisions,
whether conscious or unconscious, which are made on earth will foreshadow their
outcome in the afterlife. Shakespeare establishes this theme through the contrast of
the character foils, Hamlet and Laertes. While both characters do act upon their
decisions, Shakespeare clearly shows the difference between the influences of their
actions. Hamlet commits his actions in an unconscious states as he suffered from Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, which occurs when an individual has, exposure to trauma
involving death (Canadian Mental Health Association, para. 1). Therefore,
predestining him to Purgatory. Meanwhile, Laertes commits his actions in full...

This action shows that Laertes intentionally committed mortal sin, as he had, full
knowledge and consent to his actions (CCC 1857). Hence, making Laertes was
aware of what he was doing and where these actions will lead him to Hell. In
addition, Laertes shows a disrespect towards the Claudius, calling him a vile king
(4.5.114). During the Elizabethan era, the King was viewed as the messenger on
earth for God (Wilson 1). With the King being viewed as God s representative,
Laertes s decision to call Claudius vile is him further condemning himself to Hell
because he is not only insulting the kill but God. According to Catholic
principles,a person goes to Hell when they, die in mortal sin without repenting and
accepting God s merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our
own free choice (CCC 1033). In regards to Laertes s actions and the Catholic
definition of who qualifies for Hell, it is evident that Laertes is on the highway to
Hell. Thus, Laertes s destination to Hell is an predictable fate. Laertes will go to
Hell an exact result of his conscious action to sin against God and not seek out
Summary Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In Truman Capote s book In Cold Blood, Capote takes readers to the town of
Holcomb, Kansas. As someone who has always lived in large cities, such as New
Orleans, Louisiana or New York City, Truman Capote was a complete outsider to
this town. His interest in traveling to this town came as a surprise to his publishers,
it was so tremendously unusually for his character. Capote s depiction of Holcomb,
Kansas from an outsider s point of view, was that of a small country town in the
middle of nowhere, which Capote has characterized using rhetorical devices such as
imagery, diction, and Syntax. In In Cold BloodCapote uses Imagery as a wait to
show readers what the town of Holcomb was like from his point of view. He talks
about the ... hard blue skies and desert clear air... (Capote 3) when he was describing
the village. If the skies are unclouded then one could infer that the people of this
town are not in a city. City skies are not typically desert clear . The skies in urban
cities, most often, are cloudier than the skies of a country area due to the amount
of buildings being smaller in the country, therefore this town is, at the very least,
not near a large city, nor is it a large city itself. Capote also says that the town is a
lonely area surrounded by high wheat plains (1) and also describes the town as an
aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the mainline of the Santa
Fe railroad... (Capote 1). Since the town of Holcomb is not near a bunch

Etymology Essay. Etymology Essay - Jason Prashad Professor Wright WRC 1013- 14 September ...

  • 1. Etymology Essay Crafting an essay on etymology can prove to be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task. Delving into the roots and origins of words requires a meticulous approach, as it demands a comprehensive understanding of linguistic history, cultural evolution, and semantic shifts over time. The complexity of tracing the etymology of words lies in navigating through various languages, deciphering historical contexts, and discerning the nuanced transformations that language undergoes. To start, one must have a solid foundation in linguistics and etymological research techniques. The task involves consulting dictionaries, scholarly articles, historical texts, and linguistic databases. Each word carries a unique journey, and uncovering its etymology often involves unraveling a tapestry of influences from different cultures and periods. This intricate process requires patience, analytical skills, and a keen eye for linguistic patterns. Moreover, writing an etymology essay demands an ability to articulate the findings in a cohesive narrative. Conveying the evolution of a word or a group of words in a structured and engaging manner is essential. Balancing historical insights with linguistic analysis, and connecting the dots to reveal the broader implications of these etymological explorations, adds another layer of complexity. The challenge is not merely in presenting a factual account of the word's origin but also in exploring its cultural and social significance. Unearthing the layers of meaning attached to a word over time requires a deep understanding of the context in which it emerged and how it evolved within different linguistic communities. In conclusion, the difficulty in crafting an etymology essay lies in the intricate process of unraveling the historical threads that weave into the fabric of language. It demands a blend of linguistic expertise, research skills, and a talent for storytelling. Successfully navigating these challenges can result in a rich and insightful exploration of the roots and transformations of language. If you find yourself struggling with such assignments, or if you simply wish to save time and effort, consider seeking assistance from professional writing services. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer a range of services, including custom essays on various topics, ensuring that you can obtain expertly crafted pieces tailored to your needs. • 3. Max Weber And His Contributions Phala Monte Ms. Berner SYG 2000 01Z 7 June 2015 Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was considered as one of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many ideas that profoundly influenced social theory and social research. For sociology as a whole, Weber s study of sociology is theoretical historical, because he had the idea of rationalization based on his observations from the Protestant Work Ethic and other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the development of one of the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had supported the view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society. Weber had changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical perspective, based on his contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch 735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of humanitarian and religious convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal parliamentary deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist ideas and methodology (Winch 735). Later, he engaged in the University of Heidelberg to study law, then he transferred to the University

It is my intention to prove that the name African Methodist Episcopal represents equality and freedom to worship God, no matter what color skin a person was blessed to be born with. The thesis is this: While both Whites and Africans believed in the worship of God, whites believed in the oppression of the Africans freedom to serve God in their own way, blacks defended their own right to worship by the development of their own church. The discord of the war gave African Americans in the South freedom to worship among themselves. It was within this period that African Americans, despite contrary white opinion, developed and set up churches among themselves . In 1816, Richard Allen founded the first African American led church in the country, the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The African Methodist Episcopal Church was the first major religious denomination in the western world that originated because of sociological and not theological differences. It was the first African American denomination organized and incorporated in the US. The church was established in what was known as the Blacksmith Shop Meeting House. By 1786 blacks made up about 10 percent of the Methodist church in the United States, and though whites and blacks often worshiped together, blacks enjoyed no real freedom or equality. Segregated seating was typical; the area reserved for blacks was usually called the Negro Pew or the African Corner. FOUNDING FATHER Richard Allen born a slave in 1760 and later became one of America s strongest early advocates for racial equality. Allen was born to a biracial mother and an African father who were both slaves at the time of his birth. Richard Allen had no formal education, and he taught himself to read. Richard Allen

African American Males And Capital Punishment African American Males and Capital Punishment We simply cannot say we live in a country that offers equal justice to all Americans when racial disparities plague the system by which our society imposes the ultimate punishment. (Senator Russ Feingold, 2003). It has been proven that death sentencing across the USA is determined by the raceof the victim and race of the defendant. In 1990, there was a report from the General Accounting office which concluded that those who murdered whites were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who murdered blacks. (Focus, 2003) This injustice amongst us are because people are scared and don t know. They don t know whether a black man is pulling out a gun, their phone, wallet, etc. So just to remain safe, they retaliate by killing our men. Society has grown to function on the fear of black men. Capitalism and the imprisonment of black peoplehave become profitable. They ve made a big business to just imprison black men. Black men are inheritably a threat to the capitalist structure of America, it protects their money, their politics, and their society. When Chillingworth first came to the new world he went ahead of head of Hester, being captured by Indians, everyone thought he was dead. When he found out about Hester committing adultery, infuriated he vowed to seek revenge on whoever Hester committed adultery with. Hathorne explains that Dimmesdale, like many other personages of especial sanctity...was haunted either by Satan himself, or Satan s emissary, in the guise of Roger Chillingworth. Chillingworth is literally being called a leech and is sucking the life out of Dimmesdale by haunting him. To further support that Chillingworth is being called a leech by Hawthorne, chapter 9 of the scarlet letter is called The Leech and the chapter is all about Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. The Fi Wi architecture is based on radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that traffic generated from users communicating only in the wireless network does not have to be propagated towards the optical network as happens with RoF technology. Thus, distributed MAC protocols, e.g. IEEE 802.11b, avoid the fiber s extra propagation delays that degrade their performance. This feature removes a possible limitation regarding the length of the deployed fiber while it adds a degree of resiliency to the system since local wireless traffic can be served even when connectivity with the optical segment is lost. [pic] OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS A growing number of providers worldwide are adopting optical technologies in the access network and towards the client s premises (Fiber to the Home or FTTH) due to optical fiber s ability to provide huge amounts of bandwidth in longer distances than copper, immunity to electromagnetic interference and inherent security. Fiber generally should be installed underground for safety reasons and therefore its deployment is an expensive procedure. This is mitigated by deploying a tree like network topology where a part of it is being shared by many clients. Each client is connected via a dedicated fiber to a Remote Node (RN) which in turn is connected via a single fiber to a CO. In general two technologies can be used for this implementation
  • 17. Uninformed Voting And The Voting Essay Uninformed voting is a large problem in America. I believe the Get Out the Vote movement is a powerful driving force behind this issue. They encourage people, through pressure and patriotic guilt, to vote in elections they otherwise were not going to and are likely uninformed about. They use tactics, some legal, some not, to achieve their goals of higher turnout in elections. One tactic used by a small fringe branch of the Get Out the Vote movement is bribing of the underprivileged for their vote, promising a ride to the polls and a meal or some other good in exchange for voting for said party s candidate. There are stories about this sort of activity in nearly all major elections. Whether or not you believe uninformed voting is a problem in America, this is a form of voter fraud and is illegal. I understand not all homeless and underprivileged are uninformed and they may not even vote the way they agree to; however a large majority are blindly selling their vote loyalty for personal gain and making an uninformed decision on the ballet as a result. This illegal activity however, is far from a large percentage of the uninformed voter pool. To understand the cause of the uninformed voter phenomenon, we must first look at why Americans are uninformed in the first place. To become an uninformed voter you must first be a member of a larger pool that I will call uninformed Americans. How can Americans be uninformed about current events and politics in today s world, with

He was president during the Civil War and had many people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant. Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam. He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United

For example the most well known online networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. When you sign up to these sites it asked you to make a profile, which can be time consuming, but you can alter it for your needs as an enjoyment. Online networking has become a very significant piece of social communications inside our society. LeGuin, is a disturbing allegory that explains a shocking other world, a promise of happiness, and an everlasting sense of security. LeGuin describes that the contentment of others exists completely from someone else s expense. The utopian society seems unimaginable, a place so perfect that there is no need for rules or conformity. In order for this town to continue in bliss a child must be sacrificed in a broom closet, in its own feces, covered in gruesome sores. The story of Omelas closely connects with many modern day corporations, ranging from animal abuse, the mistreatment of workers (ie. sweatshops), loosely organized groupings or commercial enterprises, such as drug cartels (Who Is behind Mexico s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There seems to be little help for those who suffer day to day from these cruel organizations. The solution in Omelas for many people is to overcome their guilt by literally walking away from the town. Many have come to a point where they can no longer bear the thought of one suffering for another s happiness . The government can be seen as the ones who walk away (at the end of the story) due to its efforts to eliminate the problem. There have been countless cases in which corpses have been excavated, kidnappings left unsolved, and families left in desperation. At this occurrence, the Cartel and their members roam freely, purchasing yachts, houses, etc. The cartels are fully aware of their actions and the impact they have on the people of Mexico. Le Guin explains, It is the existence of the child, and their knowledge of its existence, that makes possible the nobility of their architecture, the poignancy of their music, the profundity of their science... Throughout this essay I will be explaining three themes in chronological order. Financial predators, sexual predators, and discussing why the illegal activity on the Deep web is bad for society. Financial predators are everywhere on the web, and they might cost you a fortune. This is what happened in the case of Scottish teenager Daniel Perry earlier this year, resulting in his suicide. Sexual predators can also be connected to the Deep web by exploiting nudity or sexual content of a child or young adult on a CP website, which stands for child pornography. These can also be sold on the Deep web for an exchange of bitcoin. During the Jazz Age, the United States erupted in new musical and cultural changes. These changes can be seen through the shift in literature, from conservative to contemporary writings, by literary giants like F. Scott Fitzgeraldand Bessie Smith. The Jazz Agewas known as the Roaring Twenties, and is still popular today due to its infamous jazzmusic, flappers, and prohibition. The Jazz Age was an exciting, and contemporary time period in American history. During the Jazz Age, the U.S was the setting of many cultural changes, artistic innovation, and social changes. World War 1 ended in 1918 , leading to the start of the Jazz Age. The U.S was still undergoing many reparations from World War 1, which led to many cultural changes during the 20s. Americans had money, freedom and peace. People became less conservative and wanted more to just have a good time. ( The Roaring 20 s: The Jazz Age History For Dummies ) After the end of the war, Americans were more relaxed and wanted to live freely. This is evident through many new ideas and feeling among the citizens of the U.S. One of these new ideas was bootlegging, which led to the formation of speakeasies. Prohibition began in 1920, which banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors. Speakeasy is an establishment that illegally sold banned alcoholic beverages. ( Speakeasy )

It forms a basis of one s life, through childhood, in terms of learning morals and developing one s personality. The promisee must have altered his/her position to his/her detriment in reliance therefore it would be in inequitable to go back on the promise but I believe that Nick could argue here that there was no reliance as Angela is in a better financial situation. It must be inequitable for the promisor to go back on his promise and it was said in Coombe v Coombe [1951] 2 KB 215 that the doctrine may only be raised as a defence: as a shield and not a sword , this is applicable for Angela s case. The lottery win by her husband Willy would not have any relevance in this case as he is not contractually obliged in any way to give Angela money being a third party husband. It may be argued that Angela is acting with dirty hands . She continued to pay the reduced rent for a week even though she had recovered from her illness and this may insinuate she was acting inequitable. Another argument against Angela is that she made a significant financial gain 3 months after paying the reduced amount and she has a duty to Nick to inform him of any change in circumstances as in the case of With v O Flanagan [1936] Ch 575. A visit to the countryside would mean seeing endless rows of potato bushes in fields as far as the eye could see. The potato became the staple of Irish diet, with one third of the population depending on the root by 1844. But within a year, more than half of the potatocrops were destroyed by the blight and thus began the Irish Potato Famine. The failure of the potato crop and its subsequent starvation was attributable to one thing: monocropping. Irelandactually wasn t alone in fighting blights leading up to the Great Famine. • 47. Child Labor Essay Child Labor Child labor is a pervasive problem throughout the global economy, especially in the markets of developing countries. With over 90% of the total child labor market employed in the rural areas of Asia and Africa largely due to lack of enforcement, it is argued that something has to be done. Although the majority of people are ethically appalled by child labor, and against the exploitation of children, is the worldwide eradication of the worst forms of child labor really a feasible alternative? To answer this question people have to take into account a variety of factors involving both the economic and social costs, as well as have a firm understanding of the situations people are faced with in these underdeveloped... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a vast amount of resources and huge demand for finished goods, child labor including the worst forms of bonded labor were used in both the US and UK to produce goods at the lowest possible cost. So to tell governments of impoverished nations to ban the practices that helped make industrialized nations what they are today is counterintuitive. For the US and the UK as well as others have relied on the use of child labor during their time of industrial development. This is a large reason why some third world governments are willing to turn a blind eye to some of the practices going on in their countries. Because there is hope that they too will develop industry by attracting foreign investment with the lure of cheap labor, and one day be able to emerge as an industrialized nation as did the US and the UK. So how does child labor help increase investment, and make children better off? This is a very strong argument for the proponents of child labor. The governments of these countries understand that a child working 14 hours a day in a factory isn t what is best for that child. But when you consider the alternatives, is working in a factory for less than a dollar a day really making a child or their future worse off? Some would argue no. Primarily because of the economic advantages that can be gained by luring investment with the promise of high profits due to a cheap labor market. Krugman outlines many of the benefits that can come from child

Interview 1, Time: 7 August, Friday Site: Workplace Question 1: Have you received any customer feedback? If yes, please give some examples. Yes. More than once, customers came to me saying that the toliet paper in the ladies room was running out. Some were unhappy or even irritated. If the customers didn t tell me, I wouldn t know that it was a problem. Quite a few customers found the labels of the sauces a bit confusing. Some camplained that there needed to be a sign saying that these marinated meat were spicy. Some adviced me to put a label beside to let customers know. (Jayden, Manager) Yes, I received many of them. One of our regular customers said to me one day that she was thinking the former ice cream (softe serve) to be better. She said now customers need to bend down and dig the ice cream using the scoop. She thought there might be hygiene issues since every one was using the same scoop. Some might not wash hands after using the toliet and directly use the scoop. When people bend down to get the ice cream, there was a large possibility that their hair may fall on to the ice cream. She asked me to really thinking about this issue and I

Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Essay Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Aim: To find out whether subjects will help opposite gender students faster than same sex helper would. Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will voluntarily help another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for altruistic behaviour is seen as a desire to improve the welfare of another person rather than the anticipation of some reward or for any other reason that might indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has been determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of egoism. However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left) then those in the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely than those in the high empathy condition. However, it is possible that people who help in such situations do so to avoid punishment, such as social disapproval that could arise as a result of not helping. To test that, further research where the potential for negative social evaluation was manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not appear to explain why empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al) The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing negative states, we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which is personally rewarding. People learn during childhood that helping others is a positive behaviour that will make them feel good about themselves. Therefore, the motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on the anticipated emotional consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears altruistic is actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and

Hamlet Foils Decisions In the play Hamlet, Shakespeare incorporates the theme that an individual s decisions, whether conscious or unconscious, which are made on earth will foreshadow their outcome in the afterlife. Shakespeare establishes this theme through the contrast of the character foils, Hamlet and Laertes. This action shows that Laertes intentionally committed mortal sin, as he had, full knowledge and consent to his actions (CCC 1857). Hence, making Laertes was aware of what he was doing and where these actions will lead him to Hell. In addition, Laertes shows a disrespect towards the Claudius, calling him a vile king (4.5.114). During the Elizabethan era, the King was viewed as the messenger on earth for God (Wilson 1). With the King being viewed as God s representative, Laertes s decision to call Claudius vile is him further condemning himself to Hell because he is not only insulting the kill but God. According to Catholic principles,a person goes to Hell when they, die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God s merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice (CCC 1033). In regards to Laertes s actions and the Catholic definition of who qualifies for Hell, it is evident that Laertes is on the highway to Hell. Thus, Laertes s destination to Hell is an predictable fate. Laertes will go to Hell an exact result of his conscious action to sin against God and not seek out
  • 54. Summary Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood In Truman Capote s book In Cold Blood, Capote takes readers to the town of Holcomb, Kansas. As someone who has always lived in large cities, such as New Orleans, Louisiana or New York City, Truman Capote was a complete outsider to this town. His interest in traveling to this town came as a surprise to his publishers, it was so tremendously unusually for his character. Capote s depiction of Holcomb, Kansas from an outsider s point of view, was that of a small country town in the middle of nowhere, which Capote has characterized using rhetorical devices such as imagery, diction, and Syntax. In In Cold BloodCapote uses Imagery as a wait to show readers what the town of Holcomb was like from his point of view. He talks about the ... hard blue skies and desert clear air... (Capote 3) when he was describing the village. If the skies are unclouded then one could infer that the people of this town are not in a city. City skies are not typically desert clear . The skies in urban cities, most often, are cloudier than the skies of a country area due to the amount of buildings being smaller in the country, therefore this town is, at the very least, not near a large city, nor is it a large city itself. Capote also says that the town is a lonely area surrounded by high wheat plains (1) and also describes the town as an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the mainline of the Santa Fe railroad... (Capote 1). Since the town of Holcomb is not near a bunch
