Yellow In Crime And Punishment
The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is filled with many techniques and
images that give it meaning. The techniques and imagery used by Dostoyevsky help develop a
deeper meaning throughout and assist in analyzing it. One of these techniques is color imagery,
specifically with yellow. The color yellow may seem like an insignificant detail but within this novel
it serves a great literary purpose. It is a technique that is used frequently which suggests that this
was done on purpose and that there is a relation between the different scenarios yellow is used in.
By examining the significance of the color yellow and the characters associated with it, Fyodor
Dostoyevskysuggests a clear separation between the lower class and the upper... Show more content

The first example is a description of the old woman s clothes, a mangy fur cape, yellow with age
(5). Over time clothes will age and can slowly change colors, so when Raskolnikov first sees the
old woman and describes her as wearing yellow clothing, it emphasizes how old Alyona
Ivanovna is because her clothes have turned yellow from wearing them so long. This further
emphasizes that she has put herself into a life of poverty because not only does she live in a
deteriorating apartment but she also wears old clothes. Another example of aging is when
Raskolnikov was in the streets and he saw a man staring at him. Raskolnikov decides to follow
him through the streets but eventually loses him and ends up wandering into a parlor looking for
him. The narrator describes Raskolnikov looking around the parlor and seeing that everything
there was as before, the chairs, the looking glass, the yellow sofa and the pictures in the frames
(III, VI). Raskolnikov noticed that nothing had changed from the last time he was there. All the
furniture was the same and the sofa was yellow which suggests that it was very old and had aged
since his last visit. This is significant to the entire novel because aged items are only described with
the lower class and people in poverty don t have the ability to buy new things, they have to live with
what they have. This emphasizes the apparent poverty throughout

The Civil War Of Syria
The civil war in Syria has lasted for 5 years; yet, there is little hope for a prompt end to the turmoil.
It has developed into quite a unique civil war from the political perspective. Drawing in new actors
who have pursued their own goals within the country and contributed to the current condition of
Syria. The basis for this war and the conflicts within it have also had a large effect at the global
level. The initial welling for revolution in Syria was caused by a chain of regime changes across
the Middle East in 2011 known as the Arab Spring. Beginning in Tunisia, civil protests arose against
the long established dictatorship in the country. The protests did not result in war but rather the
resignation of the leader. It freed citizens from a government that they believed had ignored their
rights and established a new administration which would hopefully correct the mistreatment the
citizens had endured. Tunisia s successful revolution had served as inspiration for the nearby
country of Egyptto follow suite. The protests in Egypt lasted for 18 days, during which internet
was mostly blocked by the state to quell the rumors of violence and rebellion. The defense against
protesters failed and the president was stripped of all power and jailed. News of two successful
rebellions against oppressive regimes soon spread across the Arab world. Libya was the next to
try its hand at an uprising. The established power would not be so easily removed however and the
country descended

1984 Mind Control Analysis
In our modern world we don t often think about the possibility that somebody could potentially
gain control of our minds. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a
fact. In the book 1984 as well as in real life mind control proves to be a key technique in gaining
power and control over people.
In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping
the way they think. They don t want their people to obey their rules because of fear or a sense of
duty, rather they want the people to wholeheartedly believe in the government. Using mind control
techniques the ingsoc government transforms its people into beings who cannot think on their own,
but need guidance for every part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in
1984. However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way.
People such as marines go into the program believing that they will just be taught how to protect
their country, but the disciplinary measures they go through often consist of mind control. They are
expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking.
These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following.
All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full
control over their own minds. However most of the examples provided in Captive Minds are quite
different than the methods in 1984 in the fact that they aren t brutally forced. In Canada we don t
have to spend our days worrying that someone will force us into joining a mind washing cult. The
only thing we have to do is avoid joining organizations or groups with blind faith by finding out
what they are about

The Effect Of Various Chemicals On Chili Peppers And The...
The investigation of pungency: qualitative and quantitative study of the various chemicals in chili
peppers and the fibers they activate Abstract: chili pepper is famous for producing pungency, the
main ingredients in which, capsaicin, can activate the fibers underlying the skin responsible for
pain and hotness. In addition, capsaicin is also suggested to have desensitization on fibers
responsible for pain and taste. As currently little research is conducted to investigate its specific
mechanism, this paper aim to solve that problem by handing a comprehensive proposal. In
addition, it will also certify the previous hypothesis that the activation of fibers may influence the
reward system in the brain, which in turns gives people a feeling of pleasure and addiction. In
order to draw these conclusions, fiver studies are proposed. Study 1 will primarily focus on the
effect various chemicals in chili peppers could produce as well as compare and sequence those
chemicals from the most to the least effective. High Performance Liquid Chromatography is
required to examine the content. As it is suggested previously, Study 2 will study the
desensitization effect of capsaicin to fibers responsible for mechanical stimulation with application
of technics like microneurography and other psychophysical methods. Study3, primarily, will
examine the effect of capsaicin through brain activity to test if the release of certain chemicals (e.g.
dopamine) is consistent with the reduction of the

Summary Of The Devil s Arithmetic
In the book, The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen, at the extremity of chapter 11, Hannah starts
to have memory loss. I expect that it s exceptional for Hannah to know what is happening
because she can know what will happen next, she knows important events of history, and lastly,
she can support herself and her friends. With these factors. It s showing why knowing her what
is happening is crucial. By having her memory, it will avail her survival in the camps. One reason
I think that is important for Hannah to know what is happening so she will know important
events of history. According to page 93, it says, Hannah stood slowly, thinking: I will be brave, I
m the only one who knows about the oven, but I will be brave. What this is showing is

Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Essay
Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream
Our understanding of Edward Albee s achievement in The American Dream (1960) has come a
long way since 1961 when Martin Esslin hailed it as a brilliant first example of an American
contribution to the Theatre of the Absurd 1 and 1966 when Nicholas Canaday, Jr. labeled it
America s best example of what has come to be known as the theatre of the absurd. 2
The shrewdest assessment of absurdism in Albee is by Brian Way, who shows convincingly that,
although Albee has successfully mastered the techniques of theatrical absurdism, he has
nevertheless shied away from embracing the metaphysics that the style implies.3 That is, Albee
knows that Theatre of the Absurd is an absorption in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host
of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience,
both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the
dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s
title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee
s says that it refers to a lot of meaning.
That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified
as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is
embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and
experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in
this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist
tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic.
Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive
qualities in Grandma. Don D. Moore finds her the most appealing, the most refreshing and the
wisest figure in the play. 8 Canaday, who has written the most about Grandma, praises her for her
realism, clear vision, enjoyment of living, and creative

If This Is A Man By Primo Levi
Primo Levi s memoir, If This Is a Man, details the everyday life and experiences of being a
prisoner in Auschwitz. Levi s writing manages capture and paint a vivid picture of just how much
it took to survive in the camps. From the memoirs we have read, If This Is a Man has taught me
about the Holocaust the most efficiently; its writing kept me immersed in the story, it taught me
about life inside the camps, and it allowed me to recognize similarities between numerous Jewish
survivors.
Unlike memoirs that adorn their writing with emotion, most of Levi s writing uses an impartial
tone. This can be seen in several instances, such as, With the last gasp of his life, he had thrown
himself to the ground: I heard the thud of his knees, of his hips,

College Is A Time For Young Men And Women
College is a time for young men and women to achieve a higher education in order to grasp their
dreams and hopes for their lives. While on this endeavor, pressures in all forms, shapes, and sizes
attack us nearly every day. As a college student the fear and lack of money show their ugly head all
the time. Learning to budget money, deciding what is important to spend limited funds on, and the
ever present repayment of college loans puts stress on students. But the pressure that weighs the
most on my mind is the health of my family members. Letting these fear, distract your attention and
focus can lead to a place of depression and anxietyI would personally know because it has affected
me only six weeks into college.
Money is without a doubt the root of any and all evil. Money makes people do crazy things to
obtain it. It is very much like a drug that affects everyone on the planet, because of the allure of
power that comes with it. But in my circumstance money concerns me in the form of college
payments. The constant thought of what if attacks me on a day to day basis; what if I don t
have enough money to eat today, what if my scholarship falls through. But college is a ride that
I willing signed up for and I am more than determined to see it until the end. I feel that if I fail in
college all of my hard work and all of my dreams, and my mother s dreams will be for nothing.
Now the annual repayment of loans isn t the biggest factor to me, it is six months after

The NCLB Act Essay
The NCLB Act

The NCLB Act was created from initiatives originally introduced in the Elementary and Secondary

the bill was first introduced. President Lyndon B. Johnson launched the War on Poverty this being

funding this act allowed underprivileged and impoverished children a chance to receive education

These tests will provide teachers and administrators a diagnosis of how the school is performing and
in which areas the school needs to improve on. This will also inform policymakers which schools
are doing well and why. Then that technique can be applied to schools in which the scores were not
meeting standards. President Bush and the U.S. Congress have challenged educators to set high
standards and hold students, schools and districts accountable for results. (Dept. of Ed, 2004)
Not only every student has to meet up to standards but teachers too must meet up to certain
standards. With the NCLB initiative all teachers within the country should meet the highly
qualified standards. Now the question is what kind of teachers does this highly qualified
standard apply to? The answer is any elementary or secondary teacher who teaches a core
academic subject. (Toolkit, 2003) The must haves for a qualified teacher are a bachelor s degree,
a full state certification, and demonstrated competency as defined by the state. Grants play a very
intricate part in assisting teachers to become or stay highly qualified. NCLB provides funds to
states and school districts to provide a wide variety of activities aimed at improving teacher quality.
Annual report cards would be issued for states reporting if the teachers of met the qualifications.
The report cards would be distributed to

Essay on CanadaВґs Mixedwood Plains and Pollution
Canada is a very large country, with areas of land in various climate regions, and land regions,
thus having many ecozones that differentiate from another. The most populated ecozone in
Canada is the Mixedwood Plains; the ecozone we are located in, named after the mixedwood
forests that are native to the area. The Mixedwood Plains is one of the smallest of the Canadian
ecozones, spanning only 175 963 kilometres squared. The Mixedwood Plains is bordered by three
of the great lakeson the southern side of the ecozone, and comes up along the St Lawrence river to
southern Quebec, and fills the tip of Ontario. It has rolling plains and small rock formations and

More than 24 billion gallons of untreated sewage waste and storm water are pumped into the lakes
annually. Pollution is increasing as well, due to the cottage development, where people enjoy
spending their summers relaxing. For many years, the lake habitats have been affected by pollution
and habitat destruction. The market for fish is tremendous; so much so, that we have depleted our
fishing resources, and have had to market on invasive species.
As well as pollution, invasive species are damaging the lake ecosystems and food chains, made
fragile by pollution and overfishing. The introduction of a new species throws off the balance of
food chains. Some common invasive species include the sea lamprey, Asian carp, and zebra
mussels, among many others. Zebra mussels have dramatically influenced and affected stable
food chains by reducing the amount of zooplankton and phytoplankton. This presents a problem,
as fish mostly feed on the drifters, and so they go hungry and die, leaving no food for larger fish
to prey on. In addition to underwater disruption, it affects us as well, but only slightly. Plankton
and algae especially are the most productive aquatic producers of oxygen, and by the decreasing
population, we lose oxygen as well. The sea lamprey is also a problem, though it is not so
influential to ecosystems as the zebra mussel.
The Canadian and US governments are working together on solutions to treat pollution and habitat
destruction, as well as overfishing and

female corpse has been found dismembered in a meticulous way and stored in trash bags. She
goes in search for a killer, after she sees a horrifying pattern involved. Her daughter and her best
friend are put in danger because of her search.

Exporting democracy? Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern
European Partnership
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many
other developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy
promotion in the countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his
second State of the Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and
to build a durable peace is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric,
utopian statement, The world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies.
Here will be provided a definition of democracy promotion, name of some of the promoters, and list
the goals of democracy promotion.
Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim
to promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ?
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the
time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build
relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. Alongside with the
democratization of non western countries, the primary goals of the EU was to establish a political
community, to deepen and strengthen free trade zones, and as well as to abolish the visa regime
within those eastern countries. In

Friendship And True Friendship
Have you ever had the feeling like someone knows you better than yourself? Frequently
surrounded by so called friends or acquaintances, as I like to call them, where a connection
between people is little to nonexistent. Whereas having a true friend is someone who s there for
you no matter what, for the marvelous and the dreadful. It s theses kind of true friends that will
have one s back, they are loyal, trustworthy, and a valuable person to have in anyone s life. To
better understand what the word friend, it s important to know the history. To begin with, it derives
from Middle English the word friend means love, attachment, and feeling that of a relative. First
notably used in the twelfth century. Therefore a friend is someone who listens to what one is
saying and cares about them their feelings and opinion. On the other hand, at times it feels like
my friendships are a bit one sided, where I do the majority of listening. As a result of this, I ve
discovered a notable difference between a friend and a true friend, in a friendship; there are talkers
and listeners. Except in a true friendship, where neither claim a specific role, both are talkers and
the listeners. Thus it s fair to say a true friend is someone who can laugh at me, and make fun of
my awkward moments with me, and vice versa. In other words, it s these types of friends are the
best because, we work as a team, both sides adding to the relationship. However, it s more than

Examples Of Christianity In Beowulf
Beowulf started as an oral tradition, passed down from generation to generation until translated into
written form by a Christian monk. Therefore, the values, culture, and traditions from the ancient
times mix with the new Christian values and melt with other cultures to create the Anglo Saxon
society. In this piece, the Anglo Saxon culture is revealed through the depiction of the values
Christianity, loyalty, and bravery. Though once a pagan culture, the Anglo Saxonswere brought the
message of Christianity by the Romans and blended those beliefs into their culture. References to
Christianity made in Beowulfdepict the culture at the time as well as the author who scribed
Beowulf, a Christian monk. The first reference in the text comes from Grendel, the descendant of
Cain, the first murderer in Biblical tradition (Raffel 20 22). This allusion connects a character of
the story with Biblical tradition, therefore further defining the Christian influence in the culture.
Other references acknowledge the presence of a higher being, of God, in the text. Hrothgar s
throne, protected by God (Raffel 84) shows their reverence of a higher being. They acknowledge

he is ultimately defeated. The culture praises risk and bravery for the sake of glory, victory, or

Re:A critical review of the industry in which New Zealand Company Zespri International operates,

Ironically, the kiwifruit seeds themselves were brought back by Whanganui teacher Mabel Fisher

The industry in which Zespri functions in within New Zealand can be broken up into three broad
value generating activities. The first activity is growing of kiwifruit which pertains to the orchards
and includes pest and disease control and harvesting. The second includes the post harvesting
activities including grading, packing and storing. The final stage and perhaps the most intrinsic
stage includes the exporting. This includes the selling and distribution of the kiwifruit to overseas
markets. Zespri International group is responsible for marketing almost all the export quality fruit
from New Zeland. The only exclusion being the Austrailian Market.
COMPANY STRATEGY
Ensuring success was not always easy for Zespri. In fact it can be said that the mere creation
itself of Zespri by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry was a branding strategy created to regain
the lost opportunity taken by New Zealands lower cost counter parts; Chile and Italy (cvtb). It
seemed as though the new strategy was a valid attempt to develope and sustain a market
orientation within the broad Kiwifruit industry.Zespri s structure was always said to be from the
Market to the orchard as opposed to traditionally being the other way around (cvtb). The brand
strategy s main aim was to differentiate New Zealand s own kiwifruit as being something iconic
and premium as a product. The aim furthered out to moving Zespri out from

The Kardashians Are Encouraging Young Women to Be Promiscuous What exactly is the

Paul Levy s strong transformational leadership style facilitated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical

Gay Rights Media
We live in a world where society does not generally accept the participation of human being

ABSTRACT
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in stimulating the growth potentials and
providing stability to the economy of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show that there are mainly four
factors which determine the net FDI flow to Saudi Arabia. These are GDP, Privatization, Import
and Export and Growth rate of GDP. There exists a positive relationship between FDI and GDP

2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997)
suggest that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during
the transition period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in
developing economies is positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion
(Balasubramanyam et al., 1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with
relatively liberal trade regimes and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions
with wider supra national free trade arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and
panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the
impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output growth in the recipient economy supporting the
FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000); Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek
(2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on GDP growth. They all used FDI
measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long run relationship between
economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for imports,

Bad Leadership Theories
Abstract When I think of bad or evil leadership, I think the power between leaders and followers
are often locked in a complicated dance of sorts. Leadership today is a phenomenon, which
implies that a leader, by nature, is someone wise and inspirational. However, it is better to
understand that sometimes a leader is driven by darker forces, as well as their followers. Leadership
can be painted in shades of gray, sometimes in black and bad leadership is as ubiquitous as it is
insidious. This is not to say that bad leadership is more prevalent than good leadership, anymore
than it could be said that bad people are greater in number than good people, but just as human
nature is complex, leadership is prone to shades of gray and black as... Show more content on

How To Understand Gymnastics
Express and Reflect
Everybody knows that feeling when you finally accomplish something that you have been
working on for a long time. This is a major part of Gymnastics. The sport is all about working up
towards your goal. It s all about practicing until you feel confident or when you finally reach
where you wanted to be. You have to just get over the fact that yes, you may fall or not get it on the
first try but if you never try it will go nowhere. Also if you do get a skill you have to keep practicing
or you will get out of practice and loose the feeling and sensation of that trick. So I guess that
practice makes perfect applies perfectly to this situation and it can tell you a lot.

Modern Music And Its Impact On The Modern World
The history of music would not be complete without the musical fine art that was created for the
dominant minorities in Western Europe. Bergeron (1992) admits that it is quite a task to educate a
two term survey of Western Art music since students have no extra time for getting accustomed to
the great musical masterpieces and their composers. It acquires the knowledge to distinguish which
set of values will assist in selecting the pieces from the canon that are worth being carried from one
generation to another. Many students and the academic sectors as whole tend to view the musicof
the 20th century regarding the canonical nature (Marcia, 2009). It is worth mentioning that the
building of the musical canon of works is not tied to history. The article analyses the healthy
aspects of the western canon concepts and practices about the musical materials. The case study
majors in the construction of the canons and the readings from that of the current J. Kreidler and
D. Helbich musical works. Marcia (1993) states that the emergence of gender could not be
compared to a historical time nor can it be taken as a blueprint to be used for gathering data about
a particular work or person. Gender as a factor has a great impact on the various categories of
musicology, and its effect has continued to increase with time. Various researchers have begun
conducting research on the influence of gender and their contribution to the growth of the musical
practices. According to Suzanne

a moveable grid that can b used on patients that are X Rayed directly.
Application Capabilities
This system may be used for examinations on both children and adults. The table can be used to
acquire images of the patient in a recumbent, sitting or prone position. The wall stand can be used
for patients that are standing or sitting. The digital images displayed on the system thereafter are of
excellent quality due to the proper understanding of the radiographer in terms of how to set
exposure factors needed to attain the level of contrast needed. (Siemens 2010; 39).
The Wall Stand
The wall stand contains the grid and has a holder for the detector. The detector unit can be

The Handless Maiden Chapter Summary
The Handless Maiden takes a look into a side of history less often seen. Usually it is said that the
victor writes the history books and more often than not that is the perspective from which people
view history. Perry shows the reader not just the losing side of the Morisco people, but the side of
the women in that society who are usually seen by Western culture as having very little power or
influence in their culture. The influence of those women had a great deal to do with why they held
onto what made them a people. They were the predominant influence in their households that kept
the family and cultural traditions alive. The key factor Perry uses to demonstrate this throughout
the book is their stories and legends, particularly The Handless Maiden. Perry writes so that the

they ve become a better person for having gone through the experience of raising and supporting an
exceptional child. It s impossible to fully comprehend these feelings without having been through
them yourself, but, even so, your heart goes out to both these parents and their children, especially
if you are the childs teacher.
The two emotions I would like to discuss are frustration and determination. A frustrated parentmay
be so thoroughly overwhelmed with everything going on in their life that they ve seemingly
given up. Some of these parents have multiple children as well as jobs and other concerns.
Although I m sure they would wish to give their exceptional child their complete and utter
attention/concern that is not always physically possible. In a case like this, as a teacher, I would
try my best to offer whatever support I could. I would gather resources, provide options, and offer
advice on how to best support the child s academic needs. I would make myself available to the
parent for open

Descriptive Essay On Londo Lake By Hale Michigan
Londo Lake, Hale Michigan Early mornings consist of donuts, tons of them. Everyone
congregates on the porch or dock snacking and sipping at hot coffee. An early pontoon ride gets
the day started. Upon return the kids flee to the cottage changing into their bathing suits, which
is followed by racing down the hill towards the warm lake waters. This is a place where waves
lap at the shore like a parched dog at water. Where the air smells quite fishy, but no one seems to
mind. Seagulls kaw at each other, neighbors wave politely, and children squeal with delight in the
shallows. We all laugh and talk merrily, boats rides fill up the day; only stopping for
replenishments. Looking for something a little less relaxing? That can be arranged. The roar

Effects Of English Language Proficiency
PROBLEM SOLUTION ESSAY
English Language Proficiency
English Language proficiency is the ability of an individual to speak or perform in English
Language. English Language is a compulsory subject in both primary and secondary schools in
Malaysia. For those local undergraduates who plan to pursue their tertiary education at
Malaysian universities, they are required to register a stipulated credit hour of English courses
based on the result of their Malaysian University English Test (MUET), which is an English
proficiency assessment course. According to Wall Street Journal, there is only 0.00002%, which
is 2 out of 100,000 candidates scoring band 6 or excellent in Malaysian University English Test
(MUET) for March and July 2014. And there is around 10,000 candidates scored band 5 that is
good or competent (band 4). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

technique on how to pronounce words in English. English contains a number of sounds and sound

Anne Sexton’s Cinderella Story
It starts with a fairy tale story, where all magical things happen and ends happily. The goodness is
rewarded but the evil ones are punish. The closing of the story always ends with and they live
happily ever after, and the main character becomes unhappy but eventually gains happiness at the
end. The traditional Cinderellastory figure is from rags to riches. It begins with a poor maid girl
named Cinderella whose stepmother and stepsisters treated her unkindly, but because of the help of
her fairy godmother, Cinderella found her Prince Charming. In Anne Sexton s Cinderella story, the
author made changes to the traditional fairy taleby adding her own tale. Throughout the poem,
Sexton uses sarcasm to finish the tale initiating the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these are good examples of dirty visual image. Dirty image to luxury image. The author
mentioned Dior, which is an expensive designer who represents a complete collection of clothes,
purses, jewelry, and shoes that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars each. Another indulgence
image is how to get to the ball, which was resolved by a gold dress and gold slippers, and at that
time they were seen as symbols of luxury and wealth. The trying on the shoe scene also suggests
that most of the story was focusing more on the golden slippers. At least for a time it seems to
suggest that expensive things will solve problems, and for the rich people stuff matters
especially since it is a fairy tale. The main point here is to find out what Sexton is trying to tell
the reader in the last stanza. By looking at its deeper meaning, a reader will be able to
comprehend what she meant by happily ever after. In line 100 109 Cinderella and the Prince

of challenges. The ups and downs that people in relationships face are hard, and they are not easy
to deal with at times. People in relationships work together to build their future, they argue when
something goes wrong, they age because that is just part of life. Cinderella and her Prince are

Herbert Hoover s Stock Market Crash
The 1929 Stock Market Crash We d like to thank you, Herbert Hoover/ For really showing us the
way/ You dirty rat, you Bureaucrat, you/ Made us what we are today (www.stlyrics.com). These
lyrics from the musical Annie place the blame for the 1929 Stock Market Crash solely on the then
former president Herbert Hoover. The truth of the matter is that placing the blame for the Stock
MarketCrash on Mr. Hoover is very unfair. Herbert Hoover was only one of many causes of the
Stock Market Crash. It is easy to try to place the blame for one of the most destructive events in
the history of the American economy on one person, but the real causes lie in the rampant
speculation, the lack of regulation of the stock market, and the questionable ethics of many of
the companies and brokers that were involved in the market. Although the 1929 Stock Market
Crash is generally blamed on a few scapegoats, it was actually caused by a multitude of factors,
which makes finding a scapegoat impossible. While there may be some arguments among
historians, speculation is obviously one of the major causes of the Crash. Speculation (In the
context of the stock market) is the buying of stocks with the purpose of profiting not from the
dividends that the stock pays, but by the fluctuations in the price (Axon 31). Speculation is often
looked down upon by the market as a profession, as it is seen as a form of gambling with possible
serious repercussions. The secret is that speculation is actually

Brick And Mortar
Our group narrowed down the myriad of industries by analyzing data within the consumer
discretionary industry. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it
represents a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer
discretionary industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000
2015. We decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has
more restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years.
We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar
versus Online. To begin working towards creating a threshold for this distinction, we pulled data
relating to fixed assets and total sales for companies within the retail industry. By utilizing the
visualization software, we could see a significant divide in the sales divided ... Show more content

The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and depreciation. We
found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with restatement occurrence. We attribute
this to numerous factors, but have specifically reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage
their earnings when a steady increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We
reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a
firm s revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at
an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation
between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the
implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in 2002. The restatements within the retail industry
peaked in 2002 2004, but have been rapidly declining

Second Amendment On Bear Arms
Second Amendment: Right to Bear Arms In the second amendment we are given the right to
bear arms, but in the world we live in today people are starting to question this right. In my
opinion I believe we should have the right to bear arms, but with more restrictions than we have
today. We were first given this right when we were fighting for our independence from Great
Britain. No one ever knew when the British were coming, except Paul Revere of course, so we
were given the right to keep rifles and such in our homes for protection in these instances. On the
other hand though, we have the idea of a repeat of Shay s rebellion. The government is
becoming less and less popular as the years go on. The millennials of today believe that if they
all stand up together that something will get changed. With this years election there were so
many young people outraged at the fact that Donald Trump won. This to me sounds like a spark
of something bad. Mostly the people voting for Trump were the ones wanting to keep guns in their
homes but with the people who were upset about this they may abuse that right to start an arsenal
to rebel against the government. Another factor of why some people think we should not have
guns in our homes is because of all the public shootings that have been happening around the
nation. The second amendment was put into effect long before the time we live in today. The
purpose of the second amendment was to have a ready militia at all times for the war on

How the Family Roles Changed in Canadian Culture during...
The 1920s was a changing time in Canadian culture and this affected everyone. The most effect
could be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had changed. Men were
coming home from the war, they had now seen things never thought possible and experienced
things that will forever change them; they came home different. Women were at home waiting,
excited, ready to move on and build to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were
excited to have their father s home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church
on Sunday mornings. And then there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically around the
time of the war. This became a crucial issue for both families and societies. A lot of time, money,
and education was spent on the crisis of boys and their development. The development of boys was
altered by the war and can be seen in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities
that were available to boy s, and the advertisements that surround boys clothingduring this era.
Mother Blaming:
While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the children. In the
beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as motherly duty, but later the crisis
began to evolve and mothers were being blamed. Mothers were being blamed for smothering and
babying boys which caused feminization in these boys from a young age. Mothers were seen as
the reason boys were to become sissies.

references to well known figures in today s society, like Wall E. By doing this, Bittman shows
that he is current and up to date with media and society. He references, We were ripe for the

grabbed not only the middle aged and the young but also the very young. Food network is
incredibly popular along with the network s stars that Bittman referenced. Bittman displays that he

The Problem Of Defective Yoga Pants
Background: This case study analysis will define the problem of defective yoga pants products,
corporate corruption, and the growing media conflict of weigh shaming in the sizes 2 12 limits
on Lululemon yoga pants. Lululemon has seen a fall in the price of stock market shares due to
these major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes.
The Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to
sheerness and see through ), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail
markets. More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to
effectively address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases,
women s yoga pants were sheer enough to be see through when the material was stretched.
Customers were then asked to bend over in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that
the pants had, in fact, were see through due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This
caused embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low
quality customer service. Lululemon also responsible limiting their yoga pants in the 2 12 size
range, which expressed a specific bias towards women that were perceived to be overweight. In
response to complaints on Facebook involving weight shaming by the company, a digital

The Impact Of Sound On The World Of Sound Cinema
Sound is obviously an essential part of cinema, and most couldn t imagine watching any sort of
entertainment without sound. Although how did sounds start and what were some major
advancements in the world of sound cinema? The introduction of sound to cinema began by a
process known as Phonofilm, created by a man named Lee de Forest and Theodore Case in 1923.
The Phonofilm, which recorded synchronized sound directly onto film, was used to record a variety
of entertainment including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers.
Unfortunately, this sound filmdidn t last long because it was overshadowed by the sound on disc,
later named the Vitaphone.
The Vitaphone was developed by Western Electrics Bell Laboratories and quickly acquired by
Warner Bros Company in April of 1925. The Warner Brothers film Don Juan, directed by Alan
Crosland, which utilized the first system with synchronized music score and sound effects, first
showcased the Vitaphone. Using the Vitaphone, Warner Brothers went on to produce over 100
short films during the mid 1920 s. In 1927, The Jazz Singer was released, which was essentially a
silent picture with Vitaphone score and the occasional episodes of synchronized singing and speech.
Although the Vitaphone seemed like a revolutionary concept opening a whole new market of
cinema, it became apparent that recording on film would be much more convenient.
Sound on disk had been in the tweaking process throughout the early

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants
that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House.
The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things
for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three
of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity
system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together,
who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us
into a well put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the
boss/manager of the kitchen and Josh who was the other personwho ran the kitchen with me. Josh
and I were not the ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that
happened because ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something.
Between the three of us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money
throughout the summer for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure
people were satisfied but because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is
key in every group to succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.
Specifically, I am going to look at the writing that we

Soviets launched their missiles, we would launch ours and wipe them out. Our strategy was MAD.
7. The third leg of Mutually Assured Destruction was submarines, which could dive into the ocean
for weeks at a time and had nuclear warheads attached to them.
8. The Russians had failsafes so that an AWOL officer couldn t go and blow up the world. They
had two keys to access the nuclear warheads held by different people on the ship.
9. The Americans had vastly superior submarines over the Russians. While the russian submarines

Dispute Resolution Innovations
Dispute Resolution Innovations
Introduction
This paper will discuss innovative alternative dispute resolutions and how they may be used in a
controversial conflict scenario. The writer will discuss these methods using an actual conflict
scenario, describing how individuals involved in the conflict will benefit from these innovative
methods rather than costly courtroom litigation. Alternative dispute resolutions are clearly the most
beneficial conflict solution regardless of gender, cultural influence, and identity.

McDowell and Sussman (2004) state In negotiation, the disputants discuss their differences and
move toward a settlement acceptable to all parties. Negotiation is the least costly resolution
technique because the parties themselves control the process and voluntarily reach a solution . This
method insures that the best interest of the child is of top importance and both sides are heard.
Beneficial Outcomes and Cost Savings
The beneficial outcomes of alternative dispute resolution strategies are quite significant. The couple
has a better chance of resolving their conflicts with a professional whom understands the couples
differences and work through them than a judge who does not. Litigation rarely benefits both
parties and may not come to a judgment that s in the best interest of the child. A healthy
relationship between all individuals involved is usually more successful with alternative dispute
resolution strategies.
Another benefit to alternative dispute resolution strategies is the cost savings. If the couple were
to seek litigation it would take much longer and would require expensive legal costs. According to
McDowell and Sussman (2004) ADR processes are designed to be faster, more streamlined, and
more informal than litigation. Many of the costly procedures associated with formal court
processes, such as filing appeals and motions can be eliminated .

  • 2. Yellow In Crime And Punishment The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is filled with many techniques and images that give it meaning. The techniques and imagery used by Dostoyevsky help develop a deeper meaning throughout and assist in analyzing it. One of these techniques is color imagery, specifically with yellow. The color yellow may seem like an insignificant detail but within this novel it serves a great literary purpose. It is a technique that is used frequently which suggests that this was done on purpose and that there is a relation between the different scenarios yellow is used in. By examining the significance of the color yellow and the characters associated with it, Fyodor Dostoyevskysuggests a clear separation between the lower class and the upper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example is a description of the old woman s clothes, a mangy fur cape, yellow with age (5). Over time clothes will age and can slowly change colors, so when Raskolnikov first sees the old woman and describes her as wearing yellow clothing, it emphasizes how old Alyona Ivanovna is because her clothes have turned yellow from wearing them so long. This further emphasizes that she has put herself into a life of poverty because not only does she live in a deteriorating apartment but she also wears old clothes. Another example of aging is when Raskolnikov was in the streets and he saw a man staring at him. Raskolnikov decides to follow him through the streets but eventually loses him and ends up wandering into a parlor looking for him. The narrator describes Raskolnikov looking around the parlor and seeing that everything there was as before, the chairs, the looking glass, the yellow sofa and the pictures in the frames (III, VI). Raskolnikov noticed that nothing had changed from the last time he was there. All the furniture was the same and the sofa was yellow which suggests that it was very old and had aged since his last visit. This is significant to the entire novel because aged items are only described with the lower class and people in poverty don t have the ability to buy new things, they have to live with what they have. This emphasizes the apparent poverty throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Civil War Of Syria The civil war in Syria has lasted for 5 years; yet, there is little hope for a prompt end to the turmoil. It has developed into quite a unique civil war from the political perspective. Drawing in new actors who have pursued their own goals within the country and contributed to the current condition of Syria. The basis for this war and the conflicts within it have also had a large effect at the global level. The initial welling for revolution in Syria was caused by a chain of regime changes across the Middle East in 2011 known as the Arab Spring. Beginning in Tunisia, civil protests arose against the long established dictatorship in the country. The protests did not result in war but rather the resignation of the leader. It freed citizens from a government that they believed had ignored their rights and established a new administration which would hopefully correct the mistreatment the citizens had endured. Tunisia s successful revolution had served as inspiration for the nearby country of Egyptto follow suite. The protests in Egypt lasted for 18 days, during which internet was mostly blocked by the state to quell the rumors of violence and rebellion. The defense against protesters failed and the president was stripped of all power and jailed. News of two successful rebellions against oppressive regimes soon spread across the Arab world. Libya was the next to try its hand at an uprising. The established power would not be so easily removed however and the country descended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 1984 Mind Control Analysis In our modern world we don t often think about the possibility that somebody could potentially gain control of our minds. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a fact. In the book 1984 as well as in real life mind control proves to be a key technique in gaining power and control over people. In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping the way they think. They don t want their people to obey their rules because of fear or a sense of duty, rather they want the people to wholeheartedly believe in the government. Using mind control techniques the ingsoc government transforms its people into beings who cannot think on their own, but need guidance for every part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in 1984. However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way. People such as marines go into the program believing that they will just be taught how to protect their country, but the disciplinary measures they go through often consist of mind control. They are expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking. These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following. All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full control over their own minds. However most of the examples provided in Captive Minds are quite different than the methods in 1984 in the fact that they aren t brutally forced. In Canada we don t have to spend our days worrying that someone will force us into joining a mind washing cult. The only thing we have to do is avoid joining organizations or groups with blind faith by finding out what they are about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effect Of Various Chemicals On Chili Peppers And The... The investigation of pungency: qualitative and quantitative study of the various chemicals in chili peppers and the fibers they activate Abstract: chili pepper is famous for producing pungency, the main ingredients in which, capsaicin, can activate the fibers underlying the skin responsible for pain and hotness. In addition, capsaicin is also suggested to have desensitization on fibers responsible for pain and taste. As currently little research is conducted to investigate its specific mechanism, this paper aim to solve that problem by handing a comprehensive proposal. In addition, it will also certify the previous hypothesis that the activation of fibers may influence the reward system in the brain, which in turns gives people a feeling of pleasure and addiction. In order to draw these conclusions, fiver studies are proposed. Study 1 will primarily focus on the effect various chemicals in chili peppers could produce as well as compare and sequence those chemicals from the most to the least effective. High Performance Liquid Chromatography is required to examine the content. As it is suggested previously, Study 2 will study the desensitization effect of capsaicin to fibers responsible for mechanical stimulation with application of technics like microneurography and other psychophysical methods. Study3, primarily, will examine the effect of capsaicin through brain activity to test if the release of certain chemicals (e.g. dopamine) is consistent with the reduction of the ... I expect that it s exceptional for Hannah to know what is happening because she can know what will happen next, she knows important events of history, and lastly, she can support herself and her friends. With these factors. It s showing why knowing her what is happening is crucial. By having her memory, it will avail her survival in the camps. • 7. Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Essay Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Our understanding of Edward Albee s achievement in The American Dream (1960) has come a long way since 1961 when Martin Esslin hailed it as a brilliant first example of an American contribution to the Theatre of the Absurd 1 and 1966 when Nicholas Canaday, Jr. labeled it America s best example of what has come to be known as the theatre of the absurd. 2 The shrewdest assessment of absurdism in Albee is by Brian Way, who shows convincingly that, although Albee has successfully mastered the techniques of theatrical absurdism, he has nevertheless shied away from embracing the metaphysics that the style implies.3 That is, Albee knows that Theatre of the Absurd is an absorption in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience, both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee s says that it refers to a lot of meaning. That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic. Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive qualities in Grandma. Don D. Moore finds her the most appealing, the most refreshing and the wisest figure in the play. 8 Canaday, who has written the most about Grandma, praises her for her realism, clear vision, enjoyment of living, and creative ... Levi s writing manages capture and paint a vivid picture of just how much it took to survive in the camps. From the memoirs we have read, If This Is a Man has taught me about the Holocaust the most efficiently; its writing kept me immersed in the story, it taught me about life inside the camps, and it allowed me to recognize similarities between numerous Jewish survivors. Unlike memoirs that adorn their writing with emotion, most of Levi s writing uses an impartial tone. These tests will provide teachers and administrators a diagnosis of how the school is performing and in which areas the school needs to improve on. This will also inform policymakers which schools are doing well and why. Then that technique can be applied to schools in which the scores were not meeting standards. President Bush and the U.S. Congress have challenged educators to set high standards and hold students, schools and districts accountable for results. (Dept. of Ed, 2004) Not only every student has to meet up to standards but teachers too must meet up to certain standards. With the NCLB initiative all teachers within the country should meet the highly qualified standards. Now the question is what kind of teachers does this highly qualified standard apply to? The answer is any elementary or secondary teacher who teaches a core academic subject. (Toolkit, 2003) The must haves for a qualified teacher are a bachelor s degree, a full state certification, and demonstrated competency as defined by the state. Grants play a very intricate part in assisting teachers to become or stay highly qualified. Essay on CanadaВґs Mixedwood Plains and Pollution Canada is a very large country, with areas of land in various climate regions, and land regions, thus having many ecozones that differentiate from another. The most populated ecozone in Canada is the Mixedwood Plains; the ecozone we are located in, named after the mixedwood forests that are native to the area. The Mixedwood Plains is one of the smallest of the Canadian ecozones, spanning only 175 963 kilometres squared. The Mixedwood Plains is bordered by three of the great lakeson the southern side of the ecozone, and comes up along the St Lawrence river to southern Quebec, and fills the tip of Ontario. More than 24 billion gallons of untreated sewage waste and storm water are pumped into the lakes annually. Pollution is increasing as well, due to the cottage development, where people enjoy spending their summers relaxing. For many years, the lake habitats have been affected by pollution and habitat destruction. The market for fish is tremendous; so much so, that we have depleted our fishing resources, and have had to market on invasive species. As well as pollution, invasive species are damaging the lake ecosystems and food chains, made fragile by pollution and overfishing. The introduction of a new species throws off the balance of food chains. Some common invasive species include the sea lamprey, Asian carp, and zebra mussels, among many others. Zebra mussels have dramatically influenced and affected stable food chains by reducing the amount of zooplankton and phytoplankton. This presents a problem, as fish mostly feed on the drifters, and so they go hungry and die, leaving no food for larger fish to prey on. In addition to underwater disruption, it affects us as well, but only slightly. Plankton and algae especially are the most productive aquatic producers of oxygen, and by the decreasing population, we lose oxygen as well. The sea lamprey is also a problem, though it is not so influential to ecosystems as the zebra mussel. The Canadian and US governments are working together on solutions to treat pollution and habitat destruction, as well as overfishing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern European Partnership With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many other developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy promotion in the countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his second State of the Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and to build a durable peace is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric, utopian statement, The world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies. Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim to promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ? As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. It s theses kind of true friends that will have one s back, they are loyal, trustworthy, and a valuable person to have in anyone s life. To better understand what the word friend, it s important to know the history. To begin with, it derives from Middle English the word friend means love, attachment, and feeling that of a relative. First notably used in the twelfth century. Therefore a friend is someone who listens to what one is saying and cares about them their feelings and opinion. On the other hand, at times it feels like my friendships are a bit one sided, where I do the majority of listening. As a result of this, I ve discovered a notable difference between a friend and a true friend, in a friendship; there are talkers and listeners. Except in a true friendship, where neither claim a specific role, both are talkers and the listeners. Thus it s fair to say a true friend is someone who can laugh at me, and make fun of my awkward moments with me, and vice versa. In other words, it s these types of friends are the best because, we work as a team, both sides adding to the relationship. However, it s more than using someone as a gossip pal or to ... Therefore, the values, culture, and traditions from the ancient times mix with the new Christian values and melt with other cultures to create the Anglo Saxon society. In this piece, the Anglo Saxon culture is revealed through the depiction of the values Christianity, loyalty, and bravery. Though once a pagan culture, the Anglo Saxonswere brought the message of Christianity by the Romans and blended those beliefs into their culture. References to Christianity made in Beowulfdepict the culture at the time as well as the author who scribed Beowulf, a Christian monk. The first reference in the text comes from Grendel, the descendant of Cain, the first murderer in Biblical tradition (Raffel 20 22). This allusion connects a character of the story with Biblical tradition, therefore further defining the Christian influence in the culture. Usually it is said that the victor writes the history books and more often than not that is the perspective from which people view history. Perry shows the reader not just the losing side of the Morisco people, but the side of the women in that society who are usually seen by Western culture as having very little power or influence in their culture. The influence of those women had a great deal to do with why they held onto what made them a people. They were the predominant influence in their households that kept the family and cultural traditions alive. The key factor Perry uses to demonstrate this throughout the book is their stories and legends, particularly The Handless Maiden. Perhaps during times of uprisings before they were defeated when they could do as they wished. She is then banished with her child to the wilderness. Banishment was not an unknown feeling for these people and mothers alone protecting their children would not be unheard of either. The last part of the story is what gave these people hope, and hope is a very strong thing. Without hope no one could ever get through the things that these people did. These lyrics from the musical Annie place the blame for the 1929 Stock Market Crash solely on the then former president Herbert Hoover. The truth of the matter is that placing the blame for the Stock MarketCrash on Mr. Hoover is very unfair. Herbert Hoover was only one of many causes of the Stock Market Crash. It is easy to try to place the blame for one of the most destructive events in the history of the American economy on one person, but the real causes lie in the rampant speculation, the lack of regulation of the stock market, and the questionable ethics of many of the companies and brokers that were involved in the market. Although the 1929 Stock Market Crash is generally blamed on a few scapegoats, it was actually caused by a multitude of factors, which makes finding a scapegoat impossible. The most effect could be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had changed. Men were coming home from the war, they had now seen things never thought possible and experienced things that will forever change them; they came home different. Women were at home waiting, excited, ready to move on and build to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were excited to have their father s home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church on Sunday mornings. And then there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically around the time of the war. This became a crucial issue for both families and societies. A lot of time, money, and education was spent on the crisis of boys and their development. The development of boys was altered by the war and can be seen in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities that were available to boy s, and the advertisements that surround boys clothingduring this era. Mother Blaming: While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the children. In the beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as motherly duty, but later the crisis began to evolve and mothers were being blamed. Although how did sounds start and what were some major advancements in the world of sound cinema? The introduction of sound to cinema began by a process known as Phonofilm, created by a man named Lee de Forest and Theodore Case in 1923. The Phonofilm, which recorded synchronized sound directly onto film, was used to record a variety of entertainment including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers.
