Ancient World Research Paper
Ancient Wonders
Antipator created a list of awe inspiring structures that spanned a period of time, of approximately
three thousand years (Banks Preface ). The list came to be called the, Seven Wonders of the Ancient
World, as each wonder was located in different areas of the world (Banks Preface ). Europe could only
claim one, two were in Africa, while three were located in Asia, leaving the final one on a small island
south of Greece (Banks Preface ). These structures were spoke of throughout time due to their
magnificence and level of skill it took to create each masterpiece. Of the seven structures, only one
still remains, the Great Pyramid of Giza, which also happens to be the oldest. Four of the remaining

It is considered the sixth wonder, only thought to be slightly older than the Lighthouse of Alexandria
(Banks Preface ). The Colossus is also considered the wonder with the shortest lifespan of about half a
century (Editors Ch. 9). As an offering to their sun god, Helios, the Rhodians had the Colossus built so
that they would forever remember winning the war against Antigous, who sent his son Demetrius, and
an army of forty thousand men, to punish the Rhodians for supporting Ptolemy ( The Colossus of
Rhodes ). The great structure was placed on the Island of Rhodes, which was located off the
southwestern tip of Asia Minor where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean (Krystek Colossus...

BC ( Colossus C 481a). The statue was one hundred and ten feet high and stood upon a fifty foot
pedestal near the harbor mole ( Colossus of Rhodes 1). From the war machines that Demetrius left
behind, bronze was melted down for the exterior, while the framework was composed of iron (
Colossus of Rhodes 1). Around 226 BC an earthquake hit the Island of Rhodes and the statue fell into
the sea leaving only the some of the base intact (Krystek Colossus... 1). In the seventh century AD the
Arabs conquered Rhodes and broke the remains of the Colossus up into smaller pieces and sold it as
scrap metal ( Colossus of Rhodes

Hitler s Abolishment of Relationships
In 1939 September 1st, a man with ambition set out to achieve his goal, the total control over the
European continent, which many of the previous rulers had failed to accomplish. Adolf Hitler, the man
with such ambition, committed the worst genocide ever known to humankind with the support of his
fellow Nazi party of Germany. This forced six million Jews to work in concentration camps. They
were constantly humiliated, tortured, and murdered by various inhumane methods. Such actions
eventually succeeded in wiping out one third of the Jewish population in Europe. The book The
concentration camps not only physically and psychologically damaged the people, it tore apart many
different relationships that were initially solid, resulting in the loss of faith in humanity.
During their enslavement at the concentration camps, the Jewish fundamental belief of benevolence
and preeminence are shredded to pieces. Jewish people lived in small, packed communities prior to
the war, with their religion deeply rooted in. Their devoted faith has its base on the idea that the world
revolves around the God. They believe the world, therefore, must good because God s divinity reaches
on every aspect of their lives. However, the Jews faith in the goodness of God is irreparably shaken
due to the horrors witnessed in the concentration camps. In the story, the Jews faith in God started to
waver at the sight of giant smokes rising from the smoke stacks of the Birkenau concentration camp.

Overcoming Dental Implants
Have No Fear: How Dental Implants Are Well Worth Overcoming Dental Apprehension
Although a lot of people fear the dentist s office, when you know what s going to happen and all the
benefits you ll reap, it can be a lot less scary. Implants involve a few steps, mainly, making way for the
new teeth and putting in place the devices that will hold them secure and finally, popping those babies
in. When you consider the benefits, along with the simplicity of the process, there s really nothing to
fear.
Consider The Benefits
If going to the dentist for a procedure didn t make your life easier or improve it in a number of ways,
you might be left questioning whether or not you should do it. With implants, however, the advantages
are clear and abundant: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cleaning: Despite their strength and durability, implants need to be cleaned as meticulously and
regularly as the rest of your own natural teeth. The bacteria and inflammation accompanying plaque
build up threatens your artificial teeth, too, necessitating frequent brushing, flossing and rinsing.
2. Protecting: As strong as they are, implants are still vulnerable to injury, pressure and stress, so
always wear a mouth guard if you play sports, protect all your teeth by skipping hard candy and
chewing ice and talk to your dentist if you grind your teeth at night.
3. Living Healthy: Beyond the toothbrush, the way you live your life can have a negative impact on
your teeth, too. Smoking, eating too much sugar and not seeing your physician to keep on top of issues
involving the heart or diabetes may put your teeth at risk. Your teeth are simply an extension of the
rest of you and as such, require the preventative and proactive measures that contribute to total health
and wellness.
Despite your fear of going to the dentist, you understand the long term value of getting implants and
the immediate benefits they provide. This really motivates you to overcome your inhibitions and take
these steps needed to protect your oral health and put your best face forward with every

The Importance Of Government Privacy
The government, that is responsible for protecting citizens, has the power to spy and monitor people.
Sometimes, surveillances are useful for catching criminals. Oftentimes, over monitoring individuals
may violates personal freedoms and sometimes the government over exceeds its boundaries to obtain
personal information. There are four types of privacy related activities that a federal, state, and local
government can have control over. The first activity deals with collection of information of individual
citizens. After the collection of this information, a government may store, manipulate, or use this data
against someone. Third, this collected information may spread to other agencies. Finally, sharing
personal information may disrupt someone s daily activities and solitude. There are various ways in
which the government and law enforcement can gather information of private citizens. For example,
census records collect information about households related to ethnicity, language, marital status, or
lifestyles. Other collection gathering methods like the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collects names,
social security numbers, income, and assets of each US worker. Some collection records are also
necessary to detect potential criminals. For instance, the FBI National Crime Information Center 2000
(NCIC) contains 13 million records of potential stolen automobiles, stolen license plates, missing
guns, other stolen goods, and missing persons records. Another way to detect

Mohamed Bahgat Goweida, FRCS, MD, Hany Ahmed Helaly, MD.
Lecturer of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University
Settings: Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt.
Purpose: To analyze the influence of various surgical factors on the post operative corneal refractive
power and astigmatism after keratoplasty in eyes with corneal diseases.
Methods: Retrospective study of 100 eyes with clear grafts six months following keratoplasty, the
influence of different surgical factors (technique of keratoplasty, type of suturing, size of trephination)
on the post operative corneal refractive power and astigmatism was analyzed. All included patients
signed an informed consent.
Results: Around 70% of the cases of the four subgroups had keratoconus. The flattest 6 months
postoperative keratometric readings was the penetrating keratoplasty (PK) with interrupted sutures
subgroup with mean 43.90 + 3.09 D. The steepest was the deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK)
with double running sutures subgroup with mean 45.30 + 1.70 D. The highest 6 months postoperative
astigmatism was the PK with interrupted sutures subgroup with mean 7.15 + 1.95 D. The lowest was
the PK with double running sutures subgroup with mean 2.36 + 1.15 D.
Conclusion: Interrupted sutures resulted in significantly higher postoperative astigmatism in both PK
and DALK before suture removal.

Nacle Physiology
In the human body, there are two kidneys located behind the peritoneum, on either side of the spine at
the lowest level of the ribcage [1]. Each kidney is made up of millions of nephrons, which drain into a
series of collecting ducts in the ureter and bladder. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus, which is
made up of a system of tiny blood vessels used to filter blood plasma. Each glomerulus is attached to
an unbranched tubule [1]. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added or removed according to
the body s needs. The products that are not needed are removed via urine. This urine production is
regulated in a variety of ways including the use of hormones and sympathetic nerve stimulation. These

Unbroken
Track star Gail Devers once said, Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can t stay down.
We can t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and
it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn t think we could be that
strong. In the nonfiction book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, the determined Louis Zamperini
showed that life could not beat him down, and never gave up, not even in the light of the impossible.
Louie s strong minded determination continues to be a factor in his survival until the very end.
Before he was introduced to running, Louie was somewhat of a heathen. He was a thief and refused to
be controlled: If it was edible, Louie stole it (6). Knowing that food was so easy to take, Louie indeed
took it. When he heard that some keys fit more than one lock, he tried over and over until his key fit

His entire life was filled to the brim with challenges to overcome. And yet he always found a way to
jump the hurdle that is life. The Bird, whose overall goal was to break Louie, could not even dent the
surface: The Bird continued to beat him, every day. As his attacker struck him, Louie bore it with
clenched fists and eyes blazing (258). He was knocked down repeatedly; however, Louie could not be
broken. Louie s resilience as a POW was his key to entering the house of survival: He felt his
consciousness slipping, his mind losing adhesion, until all he knew was a single thought: He cannot
break me (302). All of the mind strengthening conversations and on the raft proved useful throughout
his experience as a POW, and Louie s hopeful attitude lived on. Although his body was shattered, his
will remained strong and the ultimate survival cake was made with the perfect combination of

Ethical Issues In Omelas By Ursula Le Guin
The story of Omelas presented by Ursula Le Guin provides a simple, yet profound ethical question. Is
the misery of one person worth the ultimate happiness for everyone else? The story of Omelas
describes a city in which there is no guilt. The citizens enjoy life to its fullest, partaking in pleasures
without consequences and not dealing with complex social issues that are burdensome in other places.
There are few laws, no kings, no slaves, and the luxuries in life exist, as long as they do not cause
destruction. On the day of the story, Le Guin describes a summer festival in which children race
horses and everyone frolics through the streets merrily. Anything one could desire exists in Omelas,
even drugs and sex, all without guilt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author describes the arrangement in which the citizens of Omelas have made in exchange for their
city of sublime existence. With whom the agreement is made is irrelevant, but the terms create the
deep ethical dilemma. Within the city, in a basement, there lives a child. The child is ten years old, and
is described as malnourished, underdeveloped, and scared. The child is in a closet, with dirt floors, and
is fed a small amount of cornmeal and water every day. People come into the closet occasionally, but
never speak to the child, as is a strict term of the agreement. This is the arrangement that allows
Omelas to exist in the manner it does. This child seemingly bears the entire burden of misery for every
other citizen in the city. The child is not a secret. Every citizen upon reaching a certain age is made
aware of the child, and because of this, they are able to achieve the level of happiness, and
appreciation for their own lives. The justify the existence of the child by convincing themselves that
the child could never really be happy anyway, even if they were to release it from the

Globalization has become much more prevalent in modern times. According to the International
Monetary Fund staff (2000), it is defined as the increased integration of economies around the world,

and depending on personal opinion, this can make the world flat or spiky . Florida states that
globalization makes the world spiky because certain locations attract the top talent, thus leaving others

ID #2: Individual, Institutional and Structural Discrimination Discrimination takes place in many
different forms and is often defined as an intent to treat an individual differently because of a group
that they belong to. Pincus defines three different types of discrimination: Individual, Institutional, and
Structural. Individual discrimination is when one person or a small group of people discriminate,
institutional involves the discrimination that can be found with institutions themselves, and structural
discrimination often seems unintentional. Usually in institutional, there is a dominant group in control
of the institution that discriminates against a minority. It is not rare to see discrimination occur in
education, even though as a society we wish it was a thing of the past. The discrimination can create
vastly different learning environments and experiences for each student or for varying groups of
students, and this can result in an education gap.
Individual discrimination can be seen if a staff member at the school treats a student differently
because of the group they belong to, institutional discrimination can be seen if someone ranked high in
the district gives orders to treat those of a certain group differently, and structural discrimination can
be seen in areas where you have to live within a

Essay on The Life of Jane Austen
The Life of Jane Austen
The life of Jane Austen is a very interesting story and many would say that Jane Austen wasn t like the
rest. She was an English novelist who was not only successful but also very quiet about her writings
and publishments; most of her novels were not open to the public during her lifetime. She was born on
December 16th of the year 1775, and she was the seventh child to a well known clergyman and wife.
Jane was not educated like most would be; she was homeschooled by her father. Her father had huge
libraries in their home and this is what created the school like feeling of the Austen estate. Jane was a
normal, and a quiet young lady but also had the opportunities to live life in the greater world, by the

her father had always said that a good and sturdy marriage was the key to having a stable and secure
life. Her father acknowledged the fact that single women would have a harder time getting to live in
an estate and that they were most likely to be the ones to lean on wealthier family members and have
some support from them; this is the root of the next novel she wrote, Sense and Sensibility (pbs.org).
Jane Austen had eventually died unmarried, and so did her younger sister, Cassandra (express.co.uk).

Bill Cosby s Accusers Case
Following recent reports on the Bill Cosby rape accusations case which state that the famous
comedian obtained drugs known as Quaaludes in the intention to drug young women and have sex
with them, some reports suggest that Cosby s accusers are now afraid that the actor will try to make a
run for it. According to New York Times, Cosby testified in 2005 that he obtained Quaaludes which
are central nervous system depressants. He then admitted that he used the drugs in the intention to
make women have sexual relations with him. There are currently 36 accusations against Cosby, and
most of the women claim that they took a pill from him, whether to relax or feel better, and some
claim that the actor had slipped drugs into their drinks. During a four days time in 2005 and 2006,
Cosby was taken to the stand, where he answered questions about the Andrea Constand sexual
molestation. According to Cosby, the sexual encounter was consensual because Constand did not look
angry and because she never said anything that might have hinted her disaproval. Cosby stated that he

Freedom In American Literature
A concept of freedom (or liberty) has been the foundation of the United States since its founding in
1776. After all, its Declaration of Independence states that every citizen deserves the rights to Life,
Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness . However, Liberty doesn t just mean a literal freedom from
captivity, or the right to live independently from the rule of a monarch. The Constitution preserves
multiple different types of Liberty, including the freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom
of the press, and many more. With American Literature, the authors expressed these freedoms through
their works, but there was a point in time (1820 1865) where freedoms of thought and expression were
the primary ideas for most of the texts. During this period, the authors openly voiced their discontent
with institutions and systems, such as slavery, criticizing them for how they restrict people from
thinking for themselves. They also demonstrated their freedom of expression through the text itself,
not just the content of the text. In other words, the act of writing and publishing their work was an act
of rebellion against the customs they disliked, because they have the freedom to do so. They not only
have the right to have ideas that are different from those of the majority, but also the right to share
those ideas with everyone, even if people don t want to hear them. If it were not for these people,
modern Americans might have a harder time discussing with each other,

It was starting to be the talk all over the world. Soon teenagers, adults, and all females were talking
about the amazing new matte lipstick. The sophomore in high school wanted to see what it was all
about. The first time she went to kyliecosmetics.com was at a dance competition, where all of the
dancers were talking about and showing each other all of the Kylie Lip Kits they had. On the website
appeared many different shades of lipsticks available for people to purchase and enjoy. As the student
scrolled down the webpage, she was admiring and picking out different shades she wanted to have for
herself. All of her friends were with her, hovering over her giving their input. Soon her mom looked
over the phone and also saw that she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Community College Geography Essay
The Grand Rapids Community College Geography program is a rigorous program that educates
students on the world around them. At first glance, I assumed that majoring in Geography would be a
waste of time and money, however it is quite the contrary. GRCC is the home of one of the best
Geography Programs found at a United States community college. Each semester almost every
available seat in the Geography program is filled by students who are excited to learn. GRCC offers in
person, online, and hybrid classes to accommodate every student s needs. After students complete
their associate s degree, they are able to transfer their credits to colleges and universities all over
Michigan where they can complete their bachelor s degree. Many people are unaware of the many
avenues that a degree in Geography can open up to. The Bureau of Labor Statistics claim that over
half of Geography students work for federal agencies where they can make an average of $74,760
depending on their position and experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the past couple years students in GRCC s Geography program and the International Geographic
Honor Society have been able to partner with the Campaign for Female Education. Together they have
been able to help young girls in East Africa go to school. Educating women in these third world
countries not only stimulates their economy but also keeps women healthier and safer. GRCC has
helped create a better future for underprivileged women across the globe. GRCC s Geography students
are also working in their own community to bring awareness to the poverty found in the school. They
are getting the word out about the GRCC food pantry. This is something that most students, myself
included, were not aware existed. Human Trafficking is another area where students and alumni have

John Berryman Accomplishments
Throughout the dawn of time, there have been thousands of authors and poets who have changed the
way we read and write. There have been certains writers that have influenced more readers than
others. One influential poet for American history was John Berryman. John Berryman s life, poems,
and novels, changed the way we look at look at poetry forever. The best and complete way to describe
the life of John Berryman, is troubled. From a young age till the day he died, Berryman went through
more than anyone could imagine. John Berryman was born as John Allyn Smith Jr., on October 25,
1914, in McAlester, Oklahoma. His parents were John Allyn Smith Sr., a banker, and Martha Little,
who was a schoolteacher before she had John. Berryman also had ... Show more content on

This book took Berryman five years to finish, he started writing it in 1948 and ended up finished in
1953. It was first published in the Partisan Review in 1953, and then published in book form in 1956.
The book received major reviews from authors and editors all over the nation. The Times Literary
Supplement hailed it as a path breaking masterpiece; poet Robert Fitzgerald called it the poem of his
generation. (Athey). The book was about Anne Bradstreet, the first Puritan female poet of the 1600 s
and is supposed to be the two falling in love with each other throughout their conversation. In the
poem, Bradstreet is going against her father, her husband, and God, to be with Berryman. He really
wants to make the reader see that the two are falling in love so, Berryman uses personal information of
the two to really make the poem more believable and real for the reader. You can really see the love
that is shared between the two in this stanza, and if, 0 my love, my heart is breaking, please/neglect
my cries and I will spare you. Deep/in Time s grave, Love s, you lie still./Lie still. Now? That happy
shape/my forehead had under my most long, rare,/ravendark, hidden, soft bodiless hair/you award me
still./You must not love me, but I do not bid you cease. (Berryman). The two poets were three hundred
years apart but yet in the book it feels as if the conversation was just written down that day. The only
upset to the book is that it can be very hard to follow without any

A Look Into Game Theory Essay
The origins of Game Theory trace back to a letter written by Francis Waldegrave in 1713 which
proposed a minimax mixed strategy solution to a two person card game named le Her. In the following
century Charles Darwin acted as one of the pioneers in broadening the realm of this theory into the
biology of evolution as he applied the theoretic strategy in his argument of natural selection power to
equalize the sex equilibrium ratio in nature. Game Theories initial applications were restricted to two
person zero sum games where the pay off matrix was symmetric, or in other words that the sum of the
payoffs to the two participants maintains a constant value. However, modern adaptations of game
theory came into play after John von Neumann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we apply the Nash equilibrium conditions into a situation where there exists an option for both
players to cooperate or to be non cooperative, and none of these participants are aware of the other s
decision, but still knows that she/he can choose either, we have started to establish conditions ideal for
the Prisoner s dilemma. Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that produces an
outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy. Although it would be
advantageous to each party if they both chose to cooperate, a decision is made when they each choose
a non ideal outcome to protect themselves at the expense of the other party. Here is where the paradox
is made; each participant has followed a completely logical thought process, yet finds themselves in a
worse situation than the hypothetical situation in which they both cooperated. The logic that brings
about this outcome comes from the uncertainty in the other party s decision.
The dilemma s that often arise in the world of dating are extremely applicable to such modes of
thinking. One of the most commonly occurring dilemma of dating and relationships is the decision to
cooperate or not in the face of any sort of mistreatment. Whether it is being stood up on a date, or
being lied to, the victim of the wrongdoing is faced with the decision of

The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer
Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment
for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In
naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber
has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of
microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range
from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play
very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens,
provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes
consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and
excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to
maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification,
anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes
aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is
apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer,
this natural balance is ravaged. As a result of repetitive application of synthetic

Examples Of Soliloquies In King Lear
Soliloquies are predominantly used to reflect the internal thoughts of primary characters. Shakespeare
used these to express how a character was feeling and to create a sense of dramatic irony. This is
highly evident in King Lear, as Edmund illustrates his thoughts to the audience using these inner
contemplations. Edmund is the antagonist of the play, and consistently proves this to be true by his
harmful and vindictive actions. His character is revealed to be illegitimate, evil, and deceitful. His
soliloquies also set the mood to be ominous, victorious, and dramatic. Finally, he advances the plot by
creating conflict, providing details about the subplot, and intensifying pre existing turmoil. Therefore,
the soliloquies of Edmund in the Shakespearean play King Lear reveal his true character, create
atmosphere, and advances the plot.
Edmund s true character is discovered to be malicious, and he is depicted as the villain of this play.
His first soliloquy is evidence of his iniquitous behaviours, as he begins to plot against his brother.
The first soliloquy introduces Edmund as a child born out of wedlock, which deems him a bastard.
Due to this title, he will not inherit any of his father s land after his demise. ... Show more content on

Edmund is revealed to be evil, illegitimate, and deceitful, but he also creates ominous, victorious, and
dramatic moods. Moreover, the use of soliloquies advances the plot as it creates conflict, provides
background details, and fuels prior conflict between other protagonists. These monologues provide a
route to the personal thoughts of the antagonist, which permits the audience to learn greater details
about the ongoing altercations. In conclusion, it is evident that Edmund s soliloquies are vital to the
overall development of the Shakespearian Classic King

Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder )
Summary:
Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were
asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to
find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with perceiving
emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly, they wanted to
explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults
with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four conditions which
included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday objects. Participants
were asked to describe the PLD as accurately as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an
emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple
actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s
syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD,
defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in
recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As
Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to
ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002
found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s
syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests,
regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders,
which affects the internal validity of this study.
The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research,
particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in
Parron et al,

Meditation Not Medication
Meditation Not Medication Suicide from depression medication is becoming an issue. Antidepressants
should help you cope with your depression, not make you want to end your life. Most antidepressants
do not have the right kinds of effects on the prescription buyers. They have serious risks and side
effects but the users feel no different, if anything they feel worse. A risk on the medication is the
increase of suicidal thoughts. I have personally experienced the risk of increased suicidal thoughts. In
my personal experience antidepressants are ineffective and can do more harm than good.
Research shows antidepressants do not work and can actually harm you. Killing yourself from the side
effects is something that americans are prescribed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having depression since middle school, I have always had issues coping and keeping my emotions
under control. In high school I finally got the help I thought I needed. Going to my doctor and having
her prescribe me pills that, I hoped would help, made me feel like I was finally in control of my
sadness. Depression makes you feel hopeless, unworthy of life, and many other emotions. You feel as
if you are never good enough and you would be better off if you just ended your sad story of a life.
Once I started taking my daily dosage of the medication I noticed that they were not working. My
doctor gave me higher dosages in hopes I would start feeling them work.
I noticed the pills affecting me but not in the way I had wished for. I felt as if I was blank and
emotionless. The pills made me feel dull and the actually made my depression worse. My personality
had vanished and I could no longer be myself. I have had multiple people come up to me and tell me
that I am a drag and that I bring down everyone in the room. They do not realize how much that hurts
someone who is battling themselves every moment they are awake. I have tried the medication, the
therapy, and staying positive but they have never been enough for my darkening

How Did Nationalism Cause Ww2
People would do anything in order to ensure that their country would be the greatest in the world.
They do this because of nationalism, a very extreme form of belief and loyalty towards ones country.
This lead to many people believing their country was perfect; unequaled in economic, military, and
political power. Nationalism was very popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries; countries were
promoting nationalism in order to keep their citizens loyal. It played an important role in generating
conflict and revolutions during the World Wars and the Interwar years. WW1 s direct cause was the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an event that was caused specifically because of
nationalism, but many other events that were also rooted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Germany lost more than 13% of its land due to the limitations set by the treaty of Versailles, and the
people were outraged. It was soon said by Adolf Hitler, the restoration of the frontiers of 1914 could
be achieved only by blood ; showing that he knew that he must wage war if he wanted to regain the
lost land (Hitler, Mein Kampf). Once he came to power, Hitler was able to rally the people using the
idea of Lebensraum, or living space for the German people. The people were excited for Hitler
because they truly believed he would be the one to restore their losses. People soon began to follow
him more willingly, joining his Nazi party and increasing it substantially. He then invaded Poland, the
first step in his plan to conquer all of Germany s former lands. Japan waged war against China for the
same reason. More land was needed for the growing population, and the resources in Manchuria were
needed as well. Japan staged the Mukden incident to legitimize their reason for invasion, and this
depicts the effect that nationalism had on Japan s leader. They went as far as to stage an explosion on
their own train tracks to give them a reason for invading another country. These two ideas, the
Mukden incident and Lebensraum, show that nationalism led to the leaders of Japan and Germany to
go to the extreme in order to make their country a better place for themselves and for the people living

Daniel Levinson s Theory Of Middle Adulthood
Middle adulthood refers to the time period between 45 and 65, in which adults have settled down and
are now contemplating their place in the world. It s during middle adulthood that adults now are faced
with the effort of passing on something meaningful to future generations. The theories associated with
middle adulthood describe the different aspects that are important during middle adulthood, from
personality development to vital relationships. Examining these aspects can help one to gain a better
understanding of the development that occurs during middle adulthood. One theory that describes the
way in which personality develops during this time is Erikson s theory. Erikson s theory refers to
middle adulthood as the stage of generativity versus stagnation; generativity describes the passing on
of a legacy from one generation to the next, where stagnation is the lack of passing on such a legacy.
Generativity can be accomplished by bearing offspring, guiding and nurturing children, and passing
on life skills and culture. It s during this stage that adults try to lead the next generation by teaching,
guiding, and participating in activities that benefit the community (Santrock, 2017, pg. 487).
Another theory associated with personality during middle age is Daniel Levinson s Seasons of a Man s
Life. According to Levinson s theory, there are seven stages of life, with each stage consisting of a
transitional period and a stable period. The first of his seven stages is the

Seaworld Is Not A Killer Whale Program And The Number Of...
Captivity has been a controversial subject for as long as it has existed. In the past decade, SeaWorld
has been under scrutiny for their killer whale program and the number of incidents regarding them.
Almost as big as a school bus, these animals are incredibly intelligent. Their brain s are so much larger
than humans. One may think that is because they are so massive, but body size does not determine
brain size. Many animals much larger than humans have brains much smaller. Killer whales even have
a center of their brain that processes emotions; humans do not have that. SeaWorld has taken social
animals who swim almost 100 miles a day, to an introverted, almost immobile bathtub, baking in the
sun. Nothing good can come from changing their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
after Kalina was removed from the scene and put on the truck and taken to the airport, and Katina, her
mom, was left in the pool. She stayed in the corner of the pool, like, literally just shaking and
screaming, screeching, crying. (Blackfish). It is so poignant to read about a mother losing her child. To
hear what it looks and sounds like is unfathomable. No one can understand what Katina was feeling,
breaking the deeply rooted bond she had with her child. After the agonizing event with Katina,
SeaWorld had again brought heartbreak to a mother from breeding with Kohana. Former SeaWorld
Trainer John Hargrove wrote a book about SeaWorld and working there. Hargrove stated, within five
years of her stay in Loro Parque, Kohana had given birth twice and twice had rejected her calves. Her
second rejected calf died within its first year. Kohana was too young when she was separated from
Takara to have fully learned what orca motherhood entails. (Hargrove 156). It is enthralling how
SeaWorld has created three horrible lives; Kohana, who gave birth too young, and her two calves she
rejected, one of which whom died, because SeaWorld wanted to make more money by renting them.
These are living creatures and SeaWorld is treating them as if they are merchandise, renting them
across the world, pasting their faces onto shirts and mugs.
SeaWorld continued to hurt more mothers and calves. Hargrove states, 19 calves were taken from their

Shortly after the Republic of Afghanistan was set up by Mohammed Daoud Khan, the Afghanistan s
presidential palace was attacked by a section of the communist People s Democratic Party of
Afghanistan called the Khalq faction. Mohammed Daoud Khan was killed and his government
overthrown in the process of this revolution called the Saur Revolution. A man named Nur
Muhammad Taraki takes control of the new government that came into power after the Saur
Revolution, and he set up a Marxist Government. His government s goal was to industrialize
Afghanistan and provide full equality for women. This enraged fundamentalists deeply, but Taraki
carried on with his plans. On December 5th of 1978, Taraki signed the 20 Year Treaty of Friendship
with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics(USSR). This treaty was developed for a few reasons.
One, to strengthen the internal strength of Taraki s party, and Afghanistan s international security and
presence. Two, the Soviets agreed to undertake helping Taraki improve Afghanistan s social and
economic achievement. Third, to increase the defensive capabilities of both nations. Finally, to declare
a twenty year unshakable friendship between the two parties. On January 1st, 1979, Taraki began
internal land reforms in Afghanistan that upset many long holding Afghani families. This reform
limited them to the amount of land they could own, which was dependent on the quality of the land .

The Conpects Of Cinderella, Cinderella And Cinderella
Societal norms expect and uphold women to childbearing and to be nurturing. If a woman deviates
from this she will be considered as unprincipled. This is evident within the film Cinderella when the
prince s father refers to the eligible maids at the ball as suitable mothers. The Duke exclaims Sir! And
the king utterly replies I meant wife. It is evident that the king s priority in hosting this ball is not
entirely about his son getting married; rather his son giving him grandchildren. Upon arrival at the
ball, it is apparent how beautiful Cinderella is she turns the front gate guard s heads and catches the
attention of the prince while he is currently meeting her stepsisters (image #3 on page 9). The prince

However, this is defied by the film Shrek. Within the majority of fairy tales, women (specifically
princesses) are portrayed as an asset. This is portrayed within the scene where Lord Farquaad, the
soon to be king of Duloc, acquires the Magic Mirror and asks it Who is the fairest of them all. The
mirror replies I do not know. You are not a king yet. But you can become one. All you have to do is
marry a princess. In this case, the princess will be Farquaad s weapon to acquire a higher societal
stance: the King of Duloc. The mirror gives Farquaad three bachelorettes to choose from: Cinderella,
Snow White, and Fiona. The usage of bachelorette rather than princess puts an emphasis on how these
females are seen as a prize and/or item that men feel entitled to. This is also evident in the manner the
mirror describes Cinderella by stating ...her hobbies include cooking and cleaning and then shows the
image of her wearing rags, cleaning, and cooking all at the same time (image #4 on page 10). The
mentioning of cooking and cleaning depicts what society defines as women s roles. Cooking, cleaning,
and nurturing all have been stigmatized as the norm of the woman. And if a woman deviates from
these roles she

The Colossus is also considered the wonder with the shortest lifespan of about half a century (Editors Ch. 9). As an offering to their sun god, Helios, the Rhodians had the Colossus built so that they would forever remember winning the war against Antigous, who sent his son Demetrius, and an army of forty thousand men, to punish the Rhodians for supporting Ptolemy ( The Colossus of Rhodes ). The great structure was placed on the Island of Rhodes, which was located off the southwestern tip of Asia Minor where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean (Krystek Colossus... 1). The sculptor, Charles of Lindus, took twelve years to complete the statue, finishing it about 280 BC ( Colossus C 481a). The statue was one hundred and ten feet high and stood upon a fifty foot pedestal near the harbor mole ( Colossus of Rhodes 1). From the war machines that Demetrius left behind, bronze was melted down for the exterior, while the framework was composed of iron ( Colossus of Rhodes 1). • 3. Hitler s Abolishment of Relationships In 1939 September 1st, a man with ambition set out to achieve his goal, the total control over the European continent, which many of the previous rulers had failed to accomplish. Adolf Hitler, the man with such ambition, committed the worst genocide ever known to humankind with the support of his fellow Nazi party of Germany. This forced six million Jews to work in concentration camps. They were constantly humiliated, tortured, and murdered by various inhumane methods. Such actions eventually succeeded in wiping out one third of the Jewish population in Europe. The book The concentration camps not only physically and psychologically damaged the people, it tore apart many different relationships that were initially solid, resulting in the loss of faith in humanity. During their enslavement at the concentration camps, the Jewish fundamental belief of benevolence and preeminence are shredded to pieces. Jewish people lived in small, packed communities prior to the war, with their religion deeply rooted in. Their devoted faith has its base on the idea that the world revolves around the God. They believe the world, therefore, must good because God s divinity reaches on every aspect of their lives. However, the Jews faith in the goodness of God is irreparably shaken due to the horrors witnessed in the concentration camps. In the story, the Jews faith in God started to waver at the sight of giant smokes rising from the smoke stacks of the Birkenau concentration camp. The sight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Importance Of Government Privacy The government, that is responsible for protecting citizens, has the power to spy and monitor people. Sometimes, surveillances are useful for catching criminals. Oftentimes, over monitoring individuals may violates personal freedoms and sometimes the government over exceeds its boundaries to obtain personal information. There are four types of privacy related activities that a federal, state, and local government can have control over. The first activity deals with collection of information of individual citizens. Finally, sharing personal information may disrupt someone s daily activities and solitude. • 9. Unbroken Track star Gail Devers once said, Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can t stay down. We can t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn t think we could be that strong. In the nonfiction book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, the determined Louis Zamperini showed that life could not beat him down, and never gave up, not even in the light of the impossible. Louie s strong minded determination continues to be a factor in his survival until the very end. Before he was introduced to running, Louie was somewhat of a heathen. He was a thief and refused to be controlled: If it was edible, Louie stole it (6). Knowing that food was so easy to take, Louie indeed took it. Is the misery of one person worth the ultimate happiness for everyone else? The story of Omelas describes a city in which there is no guilt. The citizens enjoy life to its fullest, partaking in pleasures without consequences and not dealing with complex social issues that are burdensome in other places. There are few laws, no kings, no slaves, and the luxuries in life exist, as long as they do not cause destruction. On the day of the story, Le Guin describes a summer festival in which children race horses and everyone frolics through the streets merrily. People come into the closet occasionally, but never speak to the child, as is a strict term of the agreement. This is the arrangement that allows Omelas to exist in the manner it does. This child seemingly bears the entire burden of misery for every other citizen in the city. The child is not a secret. Every citizen upon reaching a certain age is made aware of the child, and because of this, they are able to achieve the level of happiness, and appreciation for their own lives. Countries are connected through globalization, and depending on personal opinion, this can make the world flat or spiky . Florida states that globalization makes the world spiky because certain locations attract the top talent, thus leaving others behind. ID #2: Individual, Institutional and Structural Discrimination Discrimination takes place in many different forms and is often defined as an intent to treat an individual differently because of a group that they belong to. Pincus defines three different types of discrimination: Individual, Institutional, and Structural. Individual discrimination is when one person or a small group of people discriminate, institutional involves the discrimination that can be found with institutions themselves, and structural discrimination often seems unintentional. Usually in institutional, there is a dominant group in control of the institution that discriminates against a minority. It is not rare to see discrimination occur in education, even though as a society we wish it was a thing of the past. The discrimination can create vastly different learning environments and experiences for each student or for varying groups of students, and this can result in an education gap. Individual discrimination can be seen if a staff member at the school treats a student differently because of the group they belong to, institutional discrimination can be seen if someone ranked high in the district gives orders to treat those of a certain group differently, and structural discrimination can be seen in areas where you have to live within a ... • 12. Essay on The Life of Jane Austen The Life of Jane Austen The life of Jane Austen is a very interesting story and many would say that Jane Austen wasn t like the rest. She was an English novelist who was not only successful but also very quiet about her writings and publishments; most of her novels were not open to the public during her lifetime. She was born on December 16th of the year 1775, and she was the seventh child to a well known clergyman and wife. Jane was not educated like most would be; she was homeschooled by her father. Her father had huge libraries in their home and this is what created the school like feeling of the Austen estate. This house was located in the little village of Chawton. Later on Jane had been proposed to by one of her close friend s brother, and she accepted only because she felt like it was the right thing to do because it was kind of an in the moment act. She had turned him down the next day and this was very painful for her because her father had always said that a good and sturdy marriage was the key to having a stable and secure life. Her father acknowledged the fact that single women would have a harder time getting to live in an estate and that they were most likely to be the ones to lean on wealthier family members and have some support from them; this is the root of the next novel she wrote, Sense and Sensibility (pbs.org). • 20. Freedom In American Literature A concept of freedom (or liberty) has been the foundation of the United States since its founding in 1776. After all, its Declaration of Independence states that every citizen deserves the rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness . However, Liberty doesn t just mean a literal freedom from captivity, or the right to live independently from the rule of a monarch. The Constitution preserves multiple different types of Liberty, including the freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and many more. With American Literature, the authors expressed these freedoms through their works, but there was a point in time (1820 1865) where freedoms of thought and expression were the primary ideas for most of the texts. During this period, the authors openly voiced their discontent with institutions and systems, such as slavery, criticizing them for how they restrict people from thinking for themselves. They also demonstrated their freedom of expression through the text itself, not just the content of the text. In other words, the act of writing and publishing their work was an act of rebellion against the customs they disliked, because they have the freedom to do so. They not only have the right to have ideas that are different from those of the majority, but also the right to share those ideas with everyone, even if people don t want to hear them. If we apply the Nash equilibrium conditions into a situation where there exists an option for both players to cooperate or to be non cooperative, and none of these participants are aware of the other s decision, but still knows that she/he can choose either, we have started to establish conditions ideal for the Prisoner s dilemma. Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that produces an outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy. Although it would be advantageous to each party if they both chose to cooperate, a decision is made when they each choose a non ideal outcome to protect themselves at the expense of the other party. Here is where the paradox is made; each participant has followed a completely logical thought process, yet finds themselves in a worse situation than the hypothetical situation in which they both cooperated. The logic that brings about this outcome comes from the uncertainty in the other party s decision. The dilemma s that often arise in the world of dating are extremely applicable to such modes of thinking. • 25. The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens, provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification, anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer, this natural balance is ravaged. Shakespeare used these to express how a character was feeling and to create a sense of dramatic irony. This is highly evident in King Lear, as Edmund illustrates his thoughts to the audience using these inner contemplations. Edmund is the antagonist of the play, and consistently proves this to be true by his harmful and vindictive actions. His character is revealed to be illegitimate, evil, and deceitful. His soliloquies also set the mood to be ominous, victorious, and dramatic. Finally, he advances the plot by creating conflict, providing details about the subplot, and intensifying pre existing turmoil. Therefore, the soliloquies of Edmund in the Shakespearean play King Lear reveal his true character, create atmosphere, and advances the plot. Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD, defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002 found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests, regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders, which affects the internal validity of this study. • 30. Daniel Levinson s Theory Of Middle Adulthood Middle adulthood refers to the time period between 45 and 65, in which adults have settled down and are now contemplating their place in the world. It s during middle adulthood that adults now are faced with the effort of passing on something meaningful to future generations. The theories associated with middle adulthood describe the different aspects that are important during middle adulthood, from personality development to vital relationships. Examining these aspects can help one to gain a better understanding of the development that occurs during middle adulthood. One theory that describes the way in which personality develops during this time is Erikson s theory. Erikson s theory refers to middle adulthood as the stage of generativity versus stagnation; generativity describes the passing on of a legacy from one generation to the next, where stagnation is the lack of passing on such a legacy. Generativity can be accomplished by bearing offspring, guiding and nurturing children, and passing on life skills and culture. It s during this stage that adults try to lead the next generation by teaching, guiding, and participating in activities that benefit the community (Santrock, 2017, pg. 487). Another theory associated with personality during middle age is Daniel Levinson s Seasons of a Man s Life. According to Levinson s theory, there are seven stages of life, with each stage consisting of a transitional period and a stable period. The first of his seven stages is the ... SeaWorld has taken social animals who swim almost 100 miles a day, to an introverted, almost immobile bathtub, baking in the sun. Nothing good can come from changing their ... She stayed in the corner of the pool, like, literally just shaking and screaming, screeching, crying. (Blackfish). It is so poignant to read about a mother losing her child. To hear what it looks and sounds like is unfathomable. No one can understand what Katina was feeling, breaking the deeply rooted bond she had with her child. After the agonizing event with Katina, SeaWorld had again brought heartbreak to a mother from breeding with Kohana. Former SeaWorld Trainer John Hargrove wrote a book about SeaWorld and working there. Hargrove stated, within five years of her stay in Loro Parque, Kohana had given birth twice and twice had rejected her calves. Her second rejected calf died within its first year. Kohana was too young when she was separated from Takara to have fully learned what orca motherhood entails. (Hargrove 156). It is enthralling how SeaWorld has created three horrible lives; Kohana, who gave birth too young, and her two calves she rejected, one of which whom died, because SeaWorld wanted to make more money by renting them. These are living creatures and SeaWorld is treating them as if they are merchandise, renting them across the world, pasting their faces onto shirts and mugs. SeaWorld continued to hurt more mothers and calves. Hargrove states, 19 calves were taken from their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shortly after the Republic of Afghanistan was set up by Mohammed Daoud Khan, the Afghanistan s presidential palace was attacked by a section of the communist People s Democratic Party of Afghanistan called the Khalq faction. Mohammed Daoud Khan was killed and his government overthrown in the process of this revolution called the Saur Revolution. A man named Nur Muhammad Taraki takes control of the new government that came into power after the Saur Revolution, and he set up a Marxist Government. His government s goal was to industrialize Afghanistan and provide full equality for women. This enraged fundamentalists deeply, but Taraki carried on with his plans. On December 5th of 1978, Taraki signed the 20 Year Treaty of Friendship with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics(USSR). This treaty was developed for a few reasons. One, to strengthen the internal strength of Taraki s party, and Afghanistan s international security and presence. Two, the Soviets agreed to undertake helping Taraki improve Afghanistan s social and economic achievement. Third, to increase the defensive capabilities of both nations. Finally, to declare a twenty year unshakable friendship between the two parties. On January 1st, 1979, Taraki began internal land reforms in Afghanistan that upset many long holding Afghani families. This reform limited them to the amount of land they could own, which was dependent on the quality of the land . Any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Conpects Of Cinderella, Cinderella And Cinderella Societal norms expect and uphold women to childbearing and to be nurturing. If a woman deviates from this she will be considered as unprincipled. This is evident within the film Cinderella when the prince s father refers to the eligible maids at the ball as suitable mothers. The Duke exclaims Sir! And the king utterly replies I meant wife. It is evident that the king s priority in hosting this ball is not entirely about his son getting married; rather his son giving him grandchildren. Upon arrival at the ball, it is apparent how beautiful Cinderella is she turns the front gate guard s heads and catches the attention of the prince while he is currently meeting her stepsisters (image #3 on page 9). The prince instantly goes up to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is defied by the film Shrek. Within the majority of fairy tales, women (specifically princesses) are portrayed as an asset. This is portrayed within the scene where Lord Farquaad, the soon to be king of Duloc, acquires the Magic Mirror and asks it Who is the fairest of them all. The mirror replies I do not know. You are not a king yet. But you can become one. All you have to do is marry a princess. In this case, the princess will be Farquaad s weapon to acquire a higher societal stance: the King of Duloc. The mirror gives Farquaad three bachelorettes to choose from: Cinderella, Snow White, and Fiona. The usage of bachelorette rather than princess puts an emphasis on how these females are seen as a prize and/or item that men feel entitled to. This is also evident in the manner the mirror describes Cinderella by stating ...her hobbies include cooking and cleaning and then shows the image of her wearing rags, cleaning, and cooking all at the same time (image #4 on page 10). The mentioning of cooking and cleaning depicts what society defines as women s roles. Cooking, cleaning, and nurturing all have been stigmatized as the norm of the woman. And if a woman deviates from these roles she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
