The Battle Of The Somme

About Widget FAQ Contact
How was the Battle of the Somme significant to the British in World War 1? The Battle of the
Somme was significant to the British in World War 1 because the British started and ended the
battle, there were horrific casualties as a result of this Battle and it led to many lessons being
learnt. The Battle was started by the British on the 1st July 1916 and ended on the 18th November
1916. Throughout the Battle, many smaller battles took place the most significant being day Z. The
death toll was very high and many lessons were learnt from the Battle. The battle of the Somme was
started by the British on the 1st of July 1916 at 7:30 am (Johnson, 2016). The plan developed by
the British involved the British army (BEF) attacking the Germans along a 15 mile front north of
the Somme and the French army to attacking the Germans along an 8 mile front. They planned a
weeklong bombardment on the German trenches which would use a total of 1.7 million shells
(Johnson, 2016). The plan was developed in hope to relieve the French army fighting at Verdun
with the Germans. Two other goals were to destroy German s reserve power and inflict heavy
losses on the German army. Throughout the Battle, many important events occurred. The most
gruesome day was the first day also known as day Z which led to disaster on the British side. From
here there were a series of smaller attacks in preparation for a large scale assault on the 4th of July
(BBC, 2016). This attack

Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we can tell,
however the space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began in the late 1950 s
countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are
very important to everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked.
Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of
many old and decaying satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in
space and could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi
paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near future who are
returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the moon landings in that people
were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now. These are just routine missions that hardly
anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth
collide, one being a communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now
returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is
unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift in space the
astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans. There are over five

Analysis Of Satchmo Blows Up The World
ixty years ago, Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, became a flashpoint in the nascent
civil rights movement when Governor Orval Faubus refused to abide by the Supreme Court
decision in Brown v. Board of Education. Faubus famously deployed the state s National Guard to
prevent nine African American students from attending classes at the high school. In the midst of
the crisis, a high school journalist interviewing Louis Armstrong about an upcoming tour asked the
musician about his thoughts on the situation, prompting Armstrong to refer to the Arkansas
governor as several varieties of motherfucker. (In the interest of finding a printable quote, his label
for Faubus was changed to ignorant plowboy. ) Armstrong, who was scheduled... Show more

Kaepernick began his silent, kneeling protest at the beginning of last season, not as an assault
against the United States military or the flag but as a dissent against a system that has, with a great
degree of consistency, failed to hold accountable police who kill unarmed citizens. Since he did
this, forty one unarmed individuals have been fatally shot by police in the United States, twelve
of them African American, according to a database maintained by the Washington Post. The city
of St. Louis recently witnessed three days of protests after the acquittal of Jason Stockley, the
former officer who, while still working for the city s police force, fatally shot Anthony Smith, an
eighteen year old African American motorist who had led officers on a chase. Stockley emerged
from his vehicle, having declared that he would kill the motherfucker, then proceeded to fire five
rounds into the car. Later, a firearm was found on the seat of Smith s car, but the weapon bore only
Stockley s DNA. The issue is not imaginary.
Yet the belief endures, from Armstrong s time and before, that visible, affluent African American
entertainers are obliged to adopt a pose of ceaseless gratitude appreciation for the waiver that
spared them the low status of so many others of their kind. Stevie Wonder began a performance in
Central Park last night by taking a knee, prompting Congressman Joe Walsh to tweet that Wonder

Summary Of The Of The Cat By F. Scott Fitzgerald
+ one year later + Louis don t touch that! You can hurt yourself. Niall don t you dare think about
chasing after the cat! Harry yelled at the two who were causing mischief as usual. Most people
would think that after roughly two years of doing this, Harry would get used to how much
trouble Niall, and Louis could do in under an hour but Harry begged to differ. Liam was
currently working his normal nine to five shift, and Zayn was doing some freelance work god
knows where. With the two of them out, that left Harry alone with the terrible two who refused
to sit still. Louis was reaching out for a knife, while Niall was preparing to pounce on the small
kitten they had gotten a month ago. Now normally this wouldn t be an issue if they weren t in
their headspace, but at the moment they were deep enough to cause trouble. Harry quickly
latched onto Niall s black collar, and tugged softly to signal to him that he needed to move. Niall
let out a small whine at the thought of upsetting Harry once he realized that he had disobeyed
him, but made sure to follow him. With Niall trailing behind him, Harry walked swiftly over to
Louis who was giggling, and reaching for the knife from his seat. Louis didn t have a high chair,
when a Harry brought up the idea to him he quickly shut it down. Louis had made it known that he

The Butterfly Effect Essay
Some would say that life is based upon the decisions one makes. Each decision made, each choice
selected, can have great consequences on their future. Like a student choosing to procrastinate on a
report due the next day, resulting in a full letter grade down, causing parental disapproval and life
long regrets, then causing mistakes that lead to more regrets and ultimate failure. Or, imagine, two
young people rushing to their jobs and internships, one precariously balancing two coffees in one
hand and files in the other, and the other person walking fast whilst speaking on the phone. They
crash into each other, boiling hot coffee seeping into pristine white clothing; an incident which led
to several murmured and frantic apologies, offers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story goes that young Romeo meets the fair and lovely Juliet, and they fall in love with each
other, but both are the heirs to feuding families. Due to said feud, they end up dying for each
other in the end, ultimately ending the aforementioned feud. So what truly caused their deaths?
After all, Shakespeare wrote his play to be strongly implicative of fate being the culprit; from
the beginning, he notes the couple to be a pair of star crossed lovers (The Prologue. Line 6.),
doomed to die because it was their destiny to do so. If these two met, it was writ in the stars they
d also meet death. So was fate at fault here? If it were, it d definitely make the story more
emphatic. Fate is perceived as unchanging, final. It is definite, and people love circumstances
where the odds are stacked against characters. Viewers and readers are likelier to pity the young
couple, to become more emotionally inclined to the storyline. In other words, fate would make it
more romantic romantic as in suggestive of an idealized reality. In the play, there s certainly a
strong element of coincidence, and coincidence is really just fate dressed up fancy, isn t it?
However, there s plenty of room for choice as well. Fate is definite, but not quite realistic. To be
more detailed about the storyline, the play begins with establishing who the Montagues and
Capulets are that is, two of

The public trust in governmental agencies was for first time swatted in Flint, Michigan, when a
catastrophic event claimed 12 lives, due to corrosion of lead pipes. This was because of a gross
negligence of the states appointed emergency manager who decided to switch Flint s public water

it is therefore considered safe since municipal water supplies are also regulated by the FDA, in
addition, bottled water company typically reprocess the portable municipal supplies through
distillation, reverse osmosis, and ozonation. Municipal water supply accounts for about 45 percent
of bottled water sold in the united what this means is that bottled water may not any different from
tap water, and according to the IBWA, most FDA bottled water quality standards are the same as
the EPA s maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for tap water systems. In other words, some bottled
water might not be treated as claimed by the IBWA. The EPA sets standards for maximum
contaminant in municipal water supply which are otherwise considered normal for consumption, so
therefore in a reasonable point of view, one may presume that adequate treatment is unnecessary
(qtd. in Lurie).
When it comes to the topic of safety of Tap water or Bottled water, most of us or the Food and Drug
Administration or the Environmental Protection Agency enthusiast will readily agree that without a
doubt, we have a drinking water system that s the envy of the world, that it s an urban myth that
Bottled water is safer than Tap Water. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the
question of whether Bottled Water or Tap Water is safe for consumption. But the truth remains that

Usability Testing on Microsoft Xbox в„ў
Product usability testing has been around for quite a while now for the sole purpose of providing
the consumers with the best product a company can. Some companies hire specific testing
consultants who specialize in product testing and other companies just release beta versions of
their product to a small market and collect feedback. Companies like Sony or Nintendo hire
companies that test their products and make sure there are no problems with the product. Software
companies, on the other hand, release test versions, also known as beta versions, of their products
and improve their final product based on the feedback from the beta users.

After Microsoft released the Xbox, the public rushed to purchase the video game console. Almost
immediately, complaints start to appear about the console. A small percentage of Xbox units were
defective as stated in an article titled, Microsoft Addresses Report on Xbox Defects, by Shahed
Ahmed. Defects in a small percentage of any products sold happen often. However, another
complaint surfaced shortly after the Xbox was released: the controller was over sized and the
button configuration was inconvenient for certain games. Microsoft quickly addressed this
complaint by releasing a redesigned controller that was smaller and had a more convenient button
configuration. The release of the new controller Microsoft is well documented in the article written
by Giancarlo Varanini titled, Redesigned Xbox Controller in the Works.
The Microsoft Xbox is a great example of how a product is never perfect, no matter how much it
is tested prior its release. Product usability testing will never catch all the flaws, in my opinion,
because either the test groups are not diverse enough or there is not enough time to efficiently test a
given product. However, increasing the variety of test subjects along with the size of the test groups
would certainly reduce the problem,

International Economics And Trade On My Sophomore Year
One of the most important decisions I have made is transferring my major to International
Economics and Trade in my sophomore year. From then on, I find my potential to be a quick
learner. In my new field study, I had to adapt to the brand new subject in a short time. Although
my foundation was weaker than my classmates, I studied more profession courses than them,
about 25 hours per week. Besides, I paid more attention to business practice and spent an extra 18
hours on extra curricular activities every week. It was under this circumstance that I completed all
the required courses within two years, which took my classmates three years; the final GPA was
3.2, which ranked top 22% in the class, and my annual GPA kept increasing to 3.7 in my... Show

Second, I also learnt how to bring forward innovation and put it into practice. Through inviting
experts to teach farmers breed bees, we helped beekeepers adopt the new technique to achieve mass
production, successfully developing a new product honey comb that could make a higher profit.
Last, this experience also taught me how to utilize core competence. As students who were for
public benefit, we easily won more support from the society, which facilitated many business
cooperation chances for farmers. Fortunately, based on the model and outcome of project, our team
won runner up out of 200 prestigious universities in the Enactus National Competition in 2015. At
that time, I was sure that entrepreneurship was all about catching the opportunity, taking action and
pursuing success. What further honed my entrepreneurship was my following entrepreneurial
experience. After evaluating the honey comb, I found a market opportunity: there were more
targeted customers and fewer competitors; besides, the profit margin of honey comb is 30% higher
than that of honey. Consequently, I co founded a honey product brand, Chasing Man, with three
other partners. We improved the product by giving up plastic that was widely used as the pack of
honey comb, and by pouring 60% of the money into bamboo made pack that had

and with those changes, dogs are suffering. The American Kennel Club (AKC) sets the standard

Thesis Of The Declaration Of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence for the American colonists to proclaim
freedom from Great Britain s dictator, King George III. American colonists had been suffering for
many years when this important document was drafted. King George III had pushed the colonists
into a state of tyranny and most decided it was time to start an independent nation under a different
type of government. Jefferson focused his piece toward many audiences. He wanted not only King
George III and the British Parliament to know the American s feelings, but also the entire world.
The time had come for an huge change amongst the American colonists and Jefferson made sure
everyone was aware of it by using his superior strategies of persuasion.

point most visibly. Jefferson states, When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for
people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another . Here he is
explaining that there is a need for separation between Great Britain and the American territory. He
then says, A decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes
which impel them to separation . Here he gives the reason for the division; in the opinions of
mankind, life has become unbearable. The point of this historical piece is simply to announce
independence for the Americans from the British for reasons of past

Lastly the service at The Cheesecake Factory caught my attention. As soon as we walked

the order was taken in a timely manner. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and
was very polite while taking our order. We were told our order would be put right in, and the
drinks with the complimentary bread came in no time. Then the food arrived and we began to
eat. As we ate our meal the server came over twice to check on us and get us refills. We asked for

Soviets diplomatic pressure, its military power and...
Soviets diplomatic pressure, its military power and political infiltration, are one of the factors that
helped establish communism in Eastern Europe after 1945. Right after the fall of Nazi Germany,
Europe was still recovering through the shocks of Nazism and fascism, and communism was seen
as the right safeguard against the possibility of revival of fascism in the future. The Eastern Europe
had a bad reputation with stable democratic governments, and the economic and political situation
in the after war years were fertile grounds for the Communist leaders.

Almost all of the government regimes in these countries were controlled by communist leaders
working remotely from Russia: communication gap between these leaders and the governments of
such countries grew wider and wider. The communication gap caused lack of supervision and
administration, which resulted in governments not distributing the products and goods to the
people fairly. Cold war also proved to be one of the reasons USSR failed to maintain a communist
regime in these Eastern European states; they were focused more on competing with USA than
looking after the general population. Timely distribution of goods was severely held back by
corruption and mismanagement. Most of the general population felt the provisions they were
handed were fair and satisfactory, while many others felt completely opposite, and felt that they
didn t have enough means to survive after all the hard work and effort that had put in. Communism
was merely just an illusion of Joseph Stalin to take over these countries and support his own
agenda. While most of the local population suffered, many government officials from communist
parties became richer and richer. The imbalance was quiet visible to the general public which now
wanted free market society. When demands weren t met, it caused an outrage and civil uprising
among the citizens. As a result one country after another freed itself from the clutches of

A Look Into The Window Of The West
A Look into the Window of the West
Before the reign of Czar Peter the Great (1682 1725), Russia, had hardly ever been regarded as a
part of Europe. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful
Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the
country was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as
cultural ones. Even after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting
travelers from all over the European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis
Dashwood. Dashwood was an English politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British
Cabinet level position that appointed him as head of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St.
Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was fascinated by daily life in Russiaand decided
to write a diary to document this fascination. In his diary, he examined refinements to Russo
culture, architecture and government through a series of detailed excerpts outlining what he
observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is exceptionally unique in that there
had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930 s (in English) of St. Petersburg
on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be published in 1959, it would open a
myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of Western Europe, about St.
Petersburg and Russia s Westernization

The Mammy is a stereotypical black motherly figure that has cast African American actors as
either slaves or domestic help in the film industry since its inception. For example in the classic
1939 film Gone with the Wind adapted from Margaret Mitchell s 1936 novel set during the
American Civil war in 1861, the character named Mammy is played by African American actress
Hattie McDaniel. In this role Mammy is portrayed as an overweight, elderly, black servant. She
is beyond the years of childbearing but who is devoted to the white O Hara family she is
assigned to nurture. In the book she is described as, a huge old woman with the small, shrewd

Molar Mass Of Butane And Unknown
Molar Mass of Butane and unknown
Abstract:
The purpose of this lab is to find the molar mass of mixed gases in a lighter, and to calculate the
exact mixture of gases in the lighter. The results of this lab were the mass of the lighter, as 100 mL
of water was displaced, was 0.27g, 0.17g, and 0.28g. The molar masses of the gasses for three trials
were 64.3 g/mol, 40.5 g/mol, and 66.7 g/mol.
Background:
The purpose of this lab is to find the molar mass of mixed gases in a lighter, and to calculate the
exact mixture of gases in the lighter. While collecting the volume of Butane gas in a lighter, the
molar mass can also be determined. When attempting to find the molar mass, water displacement is
the best method to use. This can be determined because the equal volumes of all gases contain
equal number of particles, so long as they are measured at the same temperature and pressure. Ideal
gas law is the chemistry involved with this experiment. The equations M=mRT/PV and PV=nRT
can be seen throughout this experiment.
Pre Lab questions:
The Ideal gas law demonstrates a relationship between different values in the equation PV=nRT.
The ideal gas law will be used to find the molar mass of butane.
The ideal gas law can be changed with the equation n=m/M. It can be seen that moles equals mass
over molar mass. This can be changed, and substituted into the Ideal gas law to find the molar
mass. The equation goes from PV=nRT to M=mRT/PV.
Molar Mass is the mass of a given substance. It

Social Policy and Drug Research Paper

Social Policy and Drug Research
by Daniel Patrick Moynihan
The major idea that the author discussed in this article was how current social policy is aimed at
decreasing the use of illegal substances? The question progresses whether research efforts must
stick to this policy in order to be considered ethical. If research is to be judged in fair terms, what
effect does this have on the selection of research projects to be funded, how the research is done?
and how the findings are treated by the public, as represented by both professionals and the media?
All these questions need to be taken into considerations while looking at this current social policy.
The author presented to us that we have to understand what is causing this ... Show more content on

One general idea he put out there to the public was Drug use and abuse represents simply one more
instance of the impact of technology on society . The author supported his statement by saying
how this is the central experience of modern society. At one or two removes, most of the ills we
suffer are the consequences of technology. That is to say, the bad results that accompany the good
ones good results which led to the adoption of the technology in the first place.
To date, there are five large and important areas of research that have been either neglected: (1) the
sequence of drugs used and the development of different drug using patterns; (2) the individual,
group, and cultural factors influencing low risk and high risk outcomes among equivalent drug
users; (3) the changing attitudes of both users and nonusers toward psychoactive drug use; (4) the
impact of the media on drug use and drug choice; and (5) the process of socialization as it applies
to patterns of drug use (http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/lsd/zinberg7.htm). I feel that we should
also focus on studies: how drugs influence individual health and behavior, what use is being made
of drug research, and how its findings influence public policy decisions.
I hope that this drug research will stimulate other investigators/researchers to accept long term,
studies of psychoactive drug using behavior as a

Lion King and Hamlet
Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet
As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off
of the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each,
but when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated
surface of The Lion King.
One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and
Hamlet are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet, a man, and Simba, a lion cub, are in the same
situation which is coping with and avenging their fathers deaths. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a
whole plan of revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on

An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature.
The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only
were the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like
animals territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues
with a line from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big
balls of burning gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s
conscience, calls Simba a baboon because he won t go back to his pride.
Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it
serves as his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is
his cue to avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and
it is also used in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost.
The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies
go, there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different
position. At the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. The only survivor is Marcellus, the
extremely faithful and supportive best friend of Hamlet through the entire play. However, at the
end of The Lion King, Zazu who was held captive by Scar and the hyenas is set free. Scar is the

Where: Left from Southaptom, England, and was on its way to New York. Made stops in

What:
The construction of the RMS Titanic started on March 31, 1909 in Belfast, North Ireland and cost
$7.5 million. The man who designed it was a naval architect named Thomas Andrews. The ship
was built to be the world s largest passenger steamship, along with two other ships, the Olympic
and Britanic. Although the ship has always been known to many as unsinkable, it was actually
never supposed to be advertised like that. Extra measures were put into the ship to insure safety,
for example, if four watertight compartments out of the 16 were flooded, the ship would still
stay afloat. Even though all these precautions were made, who would have ever thought that a
single iceberg could cause such a huge devastation. The ship set sail on April 10, 1912 from
Southampton, England and on its way to New York. The total passengers were around 2,200
people, including a crew of around 900. The passengers were divided into certain classes
depending on what kind of ticket they paid for, with first class being the most

The Era Of The Republic Essay
In the last decades of the Republic, the struggles between competing warlords with dynastic
ambitions spurred related changes in visual culture. One of the new institutions of this changed
world was the household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its
supremacy. This resulted in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be
admired and imitated, synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age
of Augustus, Paul Zanker examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus,
arguing that a new visual language developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster
the social changes desired by the new government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living
women, honorific portraits of Augustus wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his
sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these
portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their original location of display in Rome is
unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to authorise such portraits by a special decree,
suggests the unique nature of such public honours to women.
Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and
sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from
physical harm and verbal insult. Flory argues that while Octavia needed this sacrosanctity due to the

Value Of Belongingness Theory
Roy Baumeister and Mark Leary s article attends to develop and evaluate the hypothesis that a need
to belong is fundamental human motivation. This distinct section examined and focused on the
applicability of the need to belong. More precisely, the authors state the hypothesis that human
beings have a certain drive to form and keep at least a minimum amount of positive and significant
interpersonal relationships. The object of the authors is to increase the scholarship around sense of
belonging and advance in the field of psychologyand outside of it. It is provided in the beginning of
the article what are the dimensions of this topic and in what context it fits in. At the
interdisciplinary level, the belongingness hypothesis might help psychology in many different

The article also attends to respond how people get motivated from interpersonal bonds. Thus,
despite of the frequent, speculative assertions that people need to belong, the belongingness
hypothesis needs to be critically evaluated. There is an immense necessity for empirical evidence.
One of the goals for this article is to convoke a large body of empirical evidence. Baumeister and
Leary are seeking to examine the vast amount of untested information about need to belong (p.497).
In addition, the authors mention that the hypothesis implies that people should struggle to achieve
a certain minimum amount and quality of social contacts but that once this level is surpassed, the
motivation should diminish. The need is not to all kind of bonds, it has its limitations. Something
relevant for the vast majority of readers is the fact that people will gradually experience less

Social Class And Gender Equality In Charlotte Bronte s...
Men are sexist creatures who deserve every cruel act they have inflicted on women for centuries.
So say the radical feminists of the twenty first century who follow misandry, which is the hatred of
men. In fact, nineteenth century author, Charlotte Bronte, stood for the opposite as she believed in
equality for all. She was against the public view that only men were allowed to be in the political
and public spheres of society while women did not even own themselves. In spite of the efforts
produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these
feminist s beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty first century. Furthermore,
Charlotte Bronte s values of social class and genderequality in Jane Eyre are perhaps in response to
Abigail Adams Remember the Ladies, in which, Adam s demonstrates the issues of societal values.
These issues continue to echo in Sarah McVeigh s interview with Jessa Crispin in Why I m not a
feminist, where Crispin implies twenty first century feminists create a backlash in society as they
result in misandry.
In the nineteenth century, Charlotte Bronte experienced society s hierarchy of social class and
gender stereotypes first hand. In response to society s hierarchy, Charlotte Bronte integrates her
experience of entrapment in society classes through Jane Eyre by stating, a flock of white plumy
birds (160). The key point Bronte emphasizes the comparison that women are like beautiful white

Informative Essay On Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is an inevitable thing, however, it is something our body needs. In today s society

people want to be tan and go tanning frequently whether actually sitting out in the sun, going to the

The Brand Of Clothing On Female Consumers By Buying Behavior
In this dissertation, we focus on discovering the influence of the brand of clothing on female
consumers by buying behavior in Pakistan.
A. Branding Concept
The brand for years has been used as a means to differentiate and specify the goods of one
producer of the goods of another. Ambler (1992) defines the brandas the promise of the packages of
attributes that someone buys and provides satisfaction. The attributes that make up a brand can be
real or deceitful, rational or emotional, tangible or invisible. fashion Fashion can be conceptualized
as both an object and a behavioral process fashion object refers to a specific object, such as a
specific clothing item, That is to say, dress that can have functional utility as a characteristic, but
in general the acceptance of objects occurs due to the quality that the fashion process is
characterized by the introduction of a fashionable innovation to a social system composed of
potential adopters, First object is adopted by fashion leaders, then diffused through a particular
social system and is accepted by a large number of members of that social system and finally the
eventual decline in acceptance of the fashion object occurs Due to change in popularity of the
existing fashion object to a newer one.
Name of the brand
It shows the origin of the product / product and helps the conscious customers to differentiate the
brand or product from their competitors. It also creates consumer awareness about the brand. The

to manipulate language because it makes language more simple and in turn, it makes people

the fathers of our nation, but we each adapt it in our own unique ways. From day one, the United

The liver is involved in many functions of the body which are important for survival. It is the
main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins,
storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products
such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid
hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin
metabolism. The heme component of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes.
It is then bound to albumin and transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl
diphosphate glucoronyl transferase converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can
be excreted into the intestines. If the hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of
HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds

Multiple sound techniques are used in Hey, Jude to aide the song to take a poetic feel.
McCartney, the lead singer, physically sings the song in a happy, almost encouraging manner.
John, George, and Ringo, the other band members, add backup vocals to aide McCartney in
bringing forth an encouraging tone. The tempo of the music is 3 beats per measure, which is
moderately fast. Given that the fast tempo helps give the song an upbeat and encouraging tone, it
contributes to the effect of the song. The stanzas of Hey, Jude are relatively similar in length,
each having a similar rhyme scheme. The words of the song follow a pattern of stressed and
unstressed syllables, which is referred to as rhythm. The rhythm greatly affects how the listener
interprets that meaning. Repetition of phrases like, Hey, Jude, and, Then you can start to make it
better, are used to emphasize the phrases importance in the song. The repetition allows listeners to
remember the line and, because of this, is considered a way McCartney manipulated sound.
McCartney used tricks within the music, like rhythm and repetition, to create a poetic feeling. The
feeling the music brings forth adds to the overall effect of the song. All things considered, the
comprehensive meaning of the song Hey, Jude has changed for me as I carefully listened for the
McCartney s use of poetry. Paul

bureaucratization is traced to the efficiency paradigm that began to emerge in the early part of the
twentieth century when a shift occurred form cause to function and from the democratic to the
bureaucratic organization. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work
as follows:
The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the
caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own
work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor
social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of
professional casework. Volunteer service conflicted with the administrator s desire for rational,
efficient organization and the social worker s identification with the agency as a vehicle for
professional achievement. (Lubove, 1965, p.161)
The efficiency pursued as a means for legitimizing the professional social worker has had its
consequences. Today s public child welfare agency has devolved into the organization type that
sociologist, Max Weber feared in defining the pure bureaucratic type: bureaucratic efficiency has
reduced the organization s capacity to respond to

The Characteristics Of Kamo No Chomei s Life
The Kamakura period was a balance between disaster and natural elegance. Kamo no Chomei s
coming of age included religious routines that created a path for himself that he followed whether
or not he liked. Being born into a family where serving higher authorities is mandatory, the quest to
have higher status in the world is expected. In Kamo no ChЕЌmeis shoes he lacks social skill to
advance himself. This could then b pictured as growing the characteristics of Humility and
Arrogance. For Example, his father died young while Chomei was still in his teens, leaving him
without the means for social advancement. (Chomei 623) Much like today after coming of age
and experience people can figure out what they are good at and not so good at, and in Chomei
shoes he excelled at poetry and writing. Since being invited to the prestigious Imperial poetry
office where all the best writings across the state are collected. This is the beginning of Chomei s
true character of reserve to himself and make his status better. But since being denied a higher
position in the shrine, Chomei reclusiveness heightened. When Chomei moves to pure land he has
been humbled by his experiences and his enjoyment and fulfillment of what nature can give him
and his writings, while at the same time he sees people s greed for these same virtues. People are
always looking for the new and better, never satisfied with the stuff they have today. For instance,
the new iPhone, people will always buy the new IPhone

Essay Mending Wall
What is so important about mending a wall? Robert frost a down to earth, phenomenon has used
his supernatural skills to write a poem which may seem to be a simple, ordinary poem, yet what
lays hidden behind the veils may be unraveled. That is the spiritual world that you and me may
learn to understand the philosophical basis of human nature that provokes the human revolution.
Believe it or not this poem was ingeniously devised by Robert Frost to articulately open up a world
of ideas that acumen imagination and its complexities. That is what I will be elaborating on in terms
of textual evidence.
Like many of Frost s poems, mending wall involves a journey. We are introduced to two farmers in
an annual meeting at the wall that separates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like tree felling, sheep shearing and crop harvesting. It is a ritual which has it s own paradox, it
causes two neighbors to cooperate so that the wall which separate them to be sustained. It divides
even their energies at this moment as they keep the wall between them as they walk its line. The
definition of the ritual in strong symbolic terms is a statement of humankind s determination to
hang on to all that divides it. Furthermore in this stanza they fix the wall in springtime, after
wintertime, when the frozen ground swell has done its work of destruction.
Frost feels a sense of mischief, an urge to question deep rooted and unreasoned attitudes. So he
questions his neighbour s motto: why do good fences make good neighbours? He uses the most
elementary of examples: if you had cows you would of course want to wall them in and stop them
from roaming into others properties. But he points out the obvious, simple truth, in the most simple
of language: But here there are no cows. Surely, such a persuasive argument must make his
neighbour rethink his preoccupation that you need walls between you to make good neighbours.
Frost questions the reasons for the wall being built in the first place. He sees a couple of reasons for
building a wall: if there is something you need to keep in or out, build a wall; if some trouble can
result from open spaces, build a wall. Otherwise why have one? He climaxes his argument by

Police Brutality And The Laws Of The Nation And Protect...
Police offers are surpots to uphold the laws of the nation and protect the citizens of their nation
from harm, but that is not always the case. Throughout history, the ones that are designated to
protect the public the one are harming the public. When the police abuse their power, it is not
uncommon for them just to look the other way and not charge the other office of any crime. In the
United States the defining of police brutalityis the wanton use of excessive force, this could be
physical, verbal attacks and psychological intimidation, by a police officer. Often times, the
victims of police brutality are arrested for a crime, not the police officer; it is not until the citizen

King was then cuffed and arrested for Driving while under the influence (DUI) and fleeing for the
police.
This would have just been another incident between the Los Angeles police department and an
uncooperative suspect if it were not for George Holliday. George Holiday (Holiday) was living
in an apartment near the intersection of Foothill Blvd and Osborne St. in Lake View Terrace
when heard something going on outside and got his camcorder at that time he filmed violent
beating. The first 13 seconds of his videotape were blurry but it showed King trying to get away
passing one of the officers. The next minute and half, King are beaten with batons, being kicked
repeatedly and even tasered many times by the officers. He contacted the Los Angeles police two
days later and told them that he had videotaped the incident, but the LAPD did not care to see it
and just ignored him. George Holiday then took is videotaped to KTLA television so the public
could see how the LAPD burrity beat Rodney King. KTLA edited out the first 13 seconds of the
videotape because it was blurry, but that means they also edited out the part where King was
trying to flee from the LAPD) and showed it on the news. They showed the videotape repeatedly
and it was then it picked up by other television stations and

The Recidivism Rate of Juvenile Sex Offenders between Uses of Legal Sentencing as Adults or
Utilizing Psychological Treatment
It is typically thought that sex offenders are the type of individual that needs to be tried in our
courts and then sentenced because there is really no hope for an individual that harms the most
innocent of our society. But there just may be an exception to this way of thinking. Juveniles who
at one point themselves may have been victims, and as they have grown into adolescence not
knowing why they are thinking the way they are, turn around and abuse others. Then what happens
is that these adolescents once found out, are then tried in our courts as adults because in the mind
of the court they are committing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The victims of this type of offender are for the most part male. (Gunby) Another type of offender
that researchers are beginning to study, that is the offender with high levels of psychopathic traits.
There is what the study referred to as modest information on this type of offender compared to
their adult counterpart. But from what they have studied thus far is that juvenile sex offenders
with high levels of psychopathic traits had more severe antisocial histories, and had higher rates
of general and violent recidivism. They were also more likely to use weapons or threats during
the sexual offense, and were more likely to recidivate when released from prison. (Lawing) The
reasons that an adolescent may become a sex offender are as varied as the types of offenders.
Causes
Juvenile sexual offenders more frequently experienced internalizing problems, had poor self esteem,
social isolation and more frequently experienced sexual abuse in their early childhoods than non
sexual offenders. In addition, juvenile sexual abusers also exhibited more problems in their peer
relationships. There is other research that has shown substantial evidence for a relationship between
juvenile sexually abusive behavior and family dysfunction, and violence. Typically speaking abusers
grew up in dysfunctional families characterized by inconsistent care, known parental criminal
behavior and substance use. They

The Iraq War Analysis
In the days following September 11, 2001, Americans faced an onslaught of headlines designed
to generate fear and outrage regarding the terrorist group Al Qaeda and Iraqi leader, Saddam
Hussein. These fears were only heightened when President George W. Bush declared war on Iraq
on March 20, 2003, with the intentions of helping Iraqis achieve a united, stable, and free country
despite the tyrannical rule imposed by Saddam Hussein ( George W. Bush: Announcement ). For the
next eight years, Americans lived in an era of anger and confusion regarding the intentions behind
the war that dramatically changed life in the United States. The Iraq Wargreatly affected American
domestic policies, causing conflict between the Executive and Legislative... Show more content on

One relationship that was severely damaged was the U.S. ties to the United Nations. Before the
war, only a small minority of Americans [were] ready to go to war with Iraq without UN
Security Council approval, something they never provided (Kull 569). The United States
deliberately defied the wishes of the United Nations in order to depose Saddam Hussein. The
United States made its intentions clear when the Bush Administration announced that they would
circumvent the UN if necessary to depose Saddam Hussein after being unsatisfied by Iraq s
12,000 page declaration of its weapons program that was produced in order to clarify the weapon
capacity of the nation, deeming it insufficient proof that there were no weapons of mass
destruction in Iraq (Weathers). This angered many European nations save Britain, who initially
supported the US in its endeavors. Ironically, the U.S. defied the UN to enforce UN resolutions
regarding the harboring of weapons of mass destruction that were put in place following the Gulf
War and proposals put into effect regarding weapons inspection programs in Iraq. By doing so,
however, the U.S. denigrat[ed] it as irrelevant and belittl[ed] its role in reconstruction efforts after
the war (Thakur 3298). Because of the United States actions, a precedent was set in which any

Comparing Kenny And Byron
Kenny and Byron are both very similar and different. They have similarities like being able to
tease people and also like feeling sorry for things and people. They re also very different as well.
Byron often tries to act cool and tries to not show any emotion. Kenny on the other hand, tends to
show his emotion freely. Byron also doesn t do very well in school, unlike Kenny who seems to
thrive in school. Kenny could easily be described as inspired. Kenny displays this with his
interaction with other characters. For example, he went to talk with his father in the bathroom
when his dad was shaving. At that moment Kenny had said that he was also growing mustache. I
believe that this is because Kenny looks up to his father and wants to be like him. Another example

Byron shows this characteristic as he interacts with other characters in the story. For example,
Byron eventually throws a Swedish Creme cookie at a bird which ends up killing it. He gets
extremely upset with himself from this event. That is shown because of him throwing up,
crying, and then having a funeral for the bird. Then in many other experiences Byron carelessly
beats up kids not feeling bad afterwards whatsoever. This shows that he is ambivalent because
he has mixed feelings about injury and death. He carelessly beats up kids but then when it comes
to killing a bird he has a huge breakdown. Another example would be his feelings and action
towards Kenny. Sometimes he will be nice and brotherlike with Kenny, but then other times he
turns around and then ends up beating up Kenny. When Kenny goes to Byron s class and reads
after school Byron in a way congratulates Kenny. Then in other instances like How to survive a
blizzard Byron seems to be a completely different person and causes harm to Kenny with his friend
Buphead. This also shows that he is ambivalent because he treats Kenny nicely one second and then
the next second he s teasing or beating him

Federalists vs. Democratic Republicans
The United States of America was founded on a Constitution that was supposed to preserve our
freedoms and certain liberties. All Americans at that time wanted to keep America a free an
independent nation with rights for its people. However there was two different groups, the
Federalists lead by Alexander Hamilton and the Democratic Republicans led by Thomas Jefferson,
which thought this could be achieved in very different ways. Thomas Jefferson and Alexander
Hamilton were very different in their methods to try and develop America as a nation. The two
were very much alike because they both were avid Americans, and wanted to see the nation
succeed. Both men were very involved in the U.S. Government and tried to voice their opinions on

The Federalist party, including Hamilton, supported the British more than the French. Federalists
wanted to stay neutral in the French Revolution. Someone who was polar opposite of Alexander
Hamilton in their views was Thomas Jefferson, a member of the Democratic Republican Party.
Jefferson was in favor of a smaller central government with more power to the states. He perceived
that it was unconstitutional to have the federal government to have so much influence on daily life.
Jefferson thought that agriculture should be the backbone of the economy. He also did not support
the idea of a central bank, Jefferson thought that the U.S. should pay off all of its debt and stay out
of business affairs. Those who labor in the earth are the chosen people of god.....for substantial and
genuine virtue (Document D). Thomas thought that America should be the voice of ALL of the
people so he wanted the common people to be able to have more of an influence in the government.
Jefferson did not trust the wealthy people in government and thought that the more down to earth
farmers and commoners would keep them in check. A very prominent difference in Hamilton and
Jefferson was their views on the constitution. Powers not delegated to the United States by the
Constitution,

  • 2. The Battle Of The Somme Quetext About Widget FAQ Contact How was the Battle of the Somme significant to the British in World War 1? The Battle of the Somme was significant to the British in World War 1 because the British started and ended the battle, there were horrific casualties as a result of this Battle and it led to many lessons being learnt. The Battle was started by the British on the 1st July 1916 and ended on the 18th November 1916. Throughout the Battle, many smaller battles took place the most significant being day Z. The death toll was very high and many lessons were learnt from the Battle. The battle of the Somme was started by the British on the 1st of July 1916 at 7:30 am (Johnson, 2016). The plan developed by the British involved the British army (BEF) attacking the Germans along a 15 mile front north of the Somme and the French army to attacking the Germans along an 8 mile front. They planned a weeklong bombardment on the German trenches which would use a total of 1.7 million shells (Johnson, 2016). The plan was developed in hope to relieve the French army fighting at Verdun with the Germans. Two other goals were to destroy German s reserve power and inflict heavy losses on the German army. Throughout the Battle, many important events occurred. The most gruesome day was the first day also known as day Z which led to disaster on the British side. From here there were a series of smaller attacks in preparation for a large scale assault on the 4th of July (BBC, 2016). This attack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Review Of The Sci Fi Ben Moulton Erika Harnett ESS 102 AA 15 Apr. 2016 Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we can tell, however the space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began in the late 1950 s countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are very important to everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked. Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of many old and decaying satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in space and could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near future who are returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the moon landings in that people were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now. These are just routine missions that hardly anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth collide, one being a communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift in space the astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans. There are over five hundred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stockley emerged from his vehicle, having declared that he would kill the motherfucker, then proceeded to fire five rounds into the car. Later, a firearm was found on the seat of Smith s car, but the weapon bore only Stockley s DNA. The issue is not imaginary. Yet the belief endures, from Armstrong s time and before, that visible, affluent African American entertainers are obliged to adopt a pose of ceaseless gratitude appreciation for the waiver that spared them the low status of so many others of their kind. Harry yelled at the two who were causing mischief as usual. Most people would think that after roughly two years of doing this, Harry would get used to how much trouble Niall, and Louis could do in under an hour but Harry begged to differ. Liam was currently working his normal nine to five shift, and Zayn was doing some freelance work god knows where. With the two of them out, that left Harry alone with the terrible two who refused to sit still. Louis was reaching out for a knife, while Niall was preparing to pounce on the small kitten they had gotten a month ago. Now normally this wouldn t be an issue if they weren t in their headspace, but at the moment they were deep enough to cause trouble. Harry quickly latched onto Niall s black collar, and tugged softly to signal to him that he needed to move. Niall let out a small whine at the thought of upsetting Harry once he realized that he had disobeyed him, but made sure to follow him. With Niall trailing behind him, Harry walked swiftly over to Louis who was giggling, and reaching for the knife from his seat. Like a student choosing to procrastinate on a report due the next day, resulting in a full letter grade down, causing parental disapproval and life long regrets, then causing mistakes that lead to more regrets and ultimate failure. Or, imagine, two young people rushing to their jobs and internships, one precariously balancing two coffees in one hand and files in the other, and the other person walking fast whilst speaking on the phone. Due to said feud, they end up dying for each other in the end, ultimately ending the aforementioned feud. So what truly caused their deaths? After all, Shakespeare wrote his play to be strongly implicative of fate being the culprit; from the beginning, he notes the couple to be a pair of star crossed lovers (The Prologue. Line 6.), doomed to die because it was their destiny to do so. If these two met, it was writ in the stars they d also meet death. So was fate at fault here? If it were, it d definitely make the story more emphatic. Fate is perceived as unchanging, final. It is definite, and people love circumstances where the odds are stacked against characters. Viewers and readers are likelier to pity the young couple, to become more emotionally inclined to the storyline. In other words, fate would make it more romantic romantic as in suggestive of an idealized reality. In the play, there s certainly a strong element of coincidence, and coincidence is really just fate dressed up fancy, isn t it? However, there s plenty of room for choice as well. Fate is definite, but not quite realistic. To be more detailed about the storyline, the play begins with establishing who the Montagues and Capulets are that is, two of ... Cold war also proved to be one of the reasons USSR failed to maintain a communist regime in these Eastern European states; they were focused more on competing with USA than looking after the general population. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the country was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as cultural ones. Even after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting travelers from all over the European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis Dashwood. Dashwood was an English politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British Cabinet level position that appointed him as head of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St. Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was fascinated by daily life in Russiaand decided to write a diary to document this fascination. In his diary, he examined refinements to Russo culture, architecture and government through a series of detailed excerpts outlining what he observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is exceptionally unique in that there had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930 s (in English) of St. Petersburg on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be published in 1959, it would open a myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of Western Europe, about St. Petersburg and Russia s Westernization ... In this role Mammy is portrayed as an overweight, elderly, black servant. She is beyond the years of childbearing but who is devoted to the white O Hara family she is assigned to nurture. Molar Mass Of Butane And Unknown Molar Mass of Butane and unknown Abstract: The purpose of this lab is to find the molar mass of mixed gases in a lighter, and to calculate the exact mixture of gases in the lighter. The results of this lab were the mass of the lighter, as 100 mL of water was displaced, was 0.27g, 0.17g, and 0.28g. The molar masses of the gasses for three trials were 64.3 g/mol, 40.5 g/mol, and 66.7 g/mol. Background: The purpose of this lab is to find the molar mass of mixed gases in a lighter, and to calculate the exact mixture of gases in the lighter. While collecting the volume of Butane gas in a lighter, the molar mass can also be determined. When attempting to find the molar mass, water displacement is the best method to use. This can be determined because the equal volumes of all gases contain equal number of particles, so long as they are measured at the same temperature and pressure. Ideal gas law is the chemistry involved with this experiment. The equations M=mRT/PV and PV=nRT can be seen throughout this experiment. Pre Lab questions: The Ideal gas law demonstrates a relationship between different values in the equation PV=nRT. The ideal gas law will be used to find the molar mass of butane. The ideal gas law can be changed with the equation n=m/M. It can be seen that moles equals mass over molar mass. This can be changed, and substituted into the Ideal gas law to find the molar mass. The equation goes from PV=nRT to M=mRT/PV. Molar Mass is the mass of a given substance. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lion King and Hamlet Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off of the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each, but when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated surface of The Lion King. One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and Hamlet are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a whole plan of revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature. The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only were the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like animals territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues with a line from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big balls of burning gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s conscience, calls Simba a baboon because he won t go back to his pride. Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it serves as his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is his cue to avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and it is also used in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost. The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies go, there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different position. At the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. • 23. The Era Of The Republic Essay In the last decades of the Republic, the struggles between competing warlords with dynastic ambitions spurred related changes in visual culture. One of the new institutions of this changed world was the household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its supremacy. This resulted in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be admired and imitated, synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age of Augustus, Paul Zanker examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus, arguing that a new visual language developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster the social changes desired by the new government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living women, honorific portraits of Augustus wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their original location of display in Rome is unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to authorise such portraits by a special decree, suggests the unique nature of such public honours to women. Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from physical harm and verbal insult. Flory argues that while Octavia needed this sacrosanctity due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So say the radical feminists of the twenty first century who follow misandry, which is the hatred of men. In fact, nineteenth century author, Charlotte Bronte, stood for the opposite as she believed in equality for all. She was against the public view that only men were allowed to be in the political and public spheres of society while women did not even own themselves. In spite of the efforts produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these feminist s beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty first century. Furthermore, Charlotte Bronte s values of social class and genderequality in Jane Eyre are perhaps in response to Abigail Adams Remember the Ladies, in which, Adam s demonstrates the issues of societal values. These issues continue to echo in Sarah McVeigh s interview with Jessa Crispin in Why I m not a feminist, where Crispin implies twenty first century feminists create a backlash in society as they result in misandry. In the nineteenth century, Charlotte Bronte experienced society s hierarchy of social class and gender stereotypes first hand. In response to society s hierarchy, Charlotte Bronte integrates her experience of entrapment in society classes through Jane Eyre by stating, a flock of white plumy birds (160). It is the main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work as follows: The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of professional casework. But from what they have studied thus far is that juvenile sex offenders with high levels of psychopathic traits had more severe antisocial histories, and had higher rates of general and violent recidivism. They were also more likely to use weapons or threats during the sexual offense, and were more likely to recidivate when released from prison. (Lawing) The reasons that an adolescent may become a sex offender are as varied as the types of offenders. Causes Juvenile sexual offenders more frequently experienced internalizing problems, had poor self esteem, social isolation and more frequently experienced sexual abuse in their early childhoods than non sexual offenders. In addition, juvenile sexual abusers also exhibited more problems in their peer relationships. There is other research that has shown substantial evidence for a relationship between juvenile sexually abusive behavior and family dysfunction, and violence. Typically speaking abusers grew up in dysfunctional families characterized by inconsistent care, known parental criminal behavior and substance use. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Iraq War Analysis In the days following September 11, 2001, Americans faced an onslaught of headlines designed to generate fear and outrage regarding the terrorist group Al Qaeda and Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. These fears were only heightened when President George W. Bush declared war on Iraq on March 20, 2003, with the intentions of helping Iraqis achieve a united, stable, and free country despite the tyrannical rule imposed by Saddam Hussein ( George W. Bush: Announcement ). For the next eight years, Americans lived in an era of anger and confusion regarding the intentions behind the war that dramatically changed life in the United States. The Iraq Wargreatly affected American domestic policies, causing conflict between the Executive and Legislative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One relationship that was severely damaged was the U.S. ties to the United Nations. Before the war, only a small minority of Americans [were] ready to go to war with Iraq without UN Security Council approval, something they never provided (Kull 569). The United States deliberately defied the wishes of the United Nations in order to depose Saddam Hussein. The United States made its intentions clear when the Bush Administration announced that they would circumvent the UN if necessary to depose Saddam Hussein after being unsatisfied by Iraq s 12,000 page declaration of its weapons program that was produced in order to clarify the weapon capacity of the nation, deeming it insufficient proof that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq (Weathers). This angered many European nations save Britain, who initially supported the US in its endeavors. Ironically, the U.S. defied the UN to enforce UN resolutions regarding the harboring of weapons of mass destruction that were put in place following the Gulf War and proposals put into effect regarding weapons inspection programs in Iraq. By doing so, however, the U.S. denigrat[ed] it as irrelevant and belittl[ed] its role in reconstruction efforts after the war (Thakur 3298). Because of the United States actions, a precedent was set in which any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Comparing Kenny And Byron Kenny and Byron are both very similar and different. They have similarities like being able to tease people and also like feeling sorry for things and people. They re also very different as well. Byron often tries to act cool and tries to not show any emotion. Kenny on the other hand, tends to show his emotion freely. Byron also doesn t do very well in school, unlike Kenny who seems to thrive in school. Kenny could easily be described as inspired. Kenny displays this with his interaction with other characters. For example, he went to talk with his father in the bathroom when his dad was shaving. At that moment Kenny had said that he was also growing mustache. I believe that this is because Kenny looks up to his father and wants to be like him. Another example would be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Byron shows this characteristic as he interacts with other characters in the story. For example, Byron eventually throws a Swedish Creme cookie at a bird which ends up killing it. He gets extremely upset with himself from this event. That is shown because of him throwing up, crying, and then having a funeral for the bird. Then in many other experiences Byron carelessly beats up kids not feeling bad afterwards whatsoever. This shows that he is ambivalent because he has mixed feelings about injury and death. He carelessly beats up kids but then when it comes to killing a bird he has a huge breakdown. Another example would be his feelings and action towards Kenny. Sometimes he will be nice and brotherlike with Kenny, but then other times he turns around and then ends up beating up Kenny. When Kenny goes to Byron s class and reads after school Byron in a way congratulates Kenny. Then in other instances like How to survive a blizzard Byron seems to be a completely different person and causes harm to Kenny with his friend Buphead. This also shows that he is ambivalent because he treats Kenny nicely one second and then the next second he s teasing or beating him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Federalists vs. Democratic Republicans The United States of America was founded on a Constitution that was supposed to preserve our freedoms and certain liberties. All Americans at that time wanted to keep America a free an independent nation with rights for its people. However there was two different groups, the Federalists lead by Alexander Hamilton and the Democratic Republicans led by Thomas Jefferson, which thought this could be achieved in very different ways. Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton were very different in their methods to try and develop America as a nation. The two were very much alike because they both were avid Americans, and wanted to see the nation succeed. Both men were very involved in the U.S. Government and tried to voice their opinions on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Federalist party, including Hamilton, supported the British more than the French. Federalists wanted to stay neutral in the French Revolution. Someone who was polar opposite of Alexander Hamilton in their views was Thomas Jefferson, a member of the Democratic Republican Party. Jefferson was in favor of a smaller central government with more power to the states. He perceived that it was unconstitutional to have the federal government to have so much influence on daily life. Jefferson thought that agriculture should be the backbone of the economy. He also did not support the idea of a central bank, Jefferson thought that the U.S. should pay off all of its debt and stay out of business affairs. Those who labor in the earth are the chosen people of god.....for substantial and genuine virtue (Document D). Thomas thought that America should be the voice of ALL of the people so he wanted the common people to be able to have more of an influence in the government. Jefferson did not trust the wealthy people in government and thought that the more down to earth farmers and commoners would keep them in check. A very prominent difference in Hamilton and Jefferson was their views on the constitution. Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
