Marketing Options For Restaurants And Luxury Retailers For...
GiltCity Review GiltCity targets upscale restaurants and luxury retailers for daily deals and other
incentives, which distinguishes the company from the crowded field of coupon selling companies.
Although this marketing option is only available in limited cities in the United States, fine dining
restaurants can reach targeted customers who earn more than $100,000 annually. GiltCity
incentives aren t always financial but often include perks like backstage access to concerts and
entertainment venues, conversations with the head chef, celebrity meet and greets and other value
based inducements. Of course, worrying about devaluing your upscale restaurant by offering
discounts might not matter as much as you always feared. Upscale restaurants can often set their
own rules, based on their customers, cuisine and reputations. We ve regularly warned restaurateurs
in our posts about the dangers of devaluing their brands by offering too many incentives and
running coupons that reduce regular prices, except for BOGO offers. A recent report by the
University of Maryland s Business School confirmed the Groupon effect that devalues restaurants
that offer big discounts. Clinical studies and analyses proved that Groupon style offers can damage
restaurant reputations, especially eateries that offer lower priced meals.[1] However, the study
found that upscale restaurants tended to be immune from this risk, possibly because their
customers don t expect to get lower prices on every visit.

Comparison Of Catch-22 And Joseph Heller s Idea Of War
What s the Catch?: An Examination of Catch 22 and Joseph Heller s Idea of War Joseph Heller s
Catch 22 is a comical novel of bombardier named Yossarian and his attempt to escape the war
effort of War World II. The novel does not contain a linear plot, which creates some confusion and
uncertainty in the story. Also, the conclusion is not a complete resolution, as Yossarian
finally
manages to escape to Sweden by the end of novel, but that is not the resolution to the war.
Therefore, if Yossarian escaping the war is not the ultimate objective of Catch 22, then what is
Heller trying to convey in his novel? In Catch 22, Heller strives to have his audience understand the
realities of war, which includes the corruption of authority, absurdity,... Show more content on

What did matter was that everyone thought it existed and that was much worse... , since Catch 22 is
not real but people believe it is, it cannot be altered. (Heller 409) Heller also uses Catch 22 to
demonstrate the corruption of authority in war, for example, Colonel Cathcart is responsible for
the number of missions his squadron must fly but under Catch 22 he can continue to raise the
number of missions without a concrete reason. Heller further elaborates on the corruption of
authority in war through other elements of the novel. The hierarchy of authority in Catch 22 is
parallel to a military chain of commands, general, captain, private and etc, but one particular
character holds much more power than his authoritative title grants him, that is Ex. PFC
Wintergreen, a multi demoted private who is in charge of distribution and communication.
Wintergreen is the lowest of low, yet he is able to alter documents and mail to cause
miscommunication between generals and higher ups. Through the ironic characterization of
Wintergreen, Heller conveys that the title position and its authority does not always correspond to
its proportional amount power. Most of the men in high command are selfish and are only
interested in themselves. As Colonel Cathcart expresses ambition to ascend up the authorial ladder,
he continues to increase

Three Social Insurance Programs
In this chapter, the author gives some details of three main social insurance programs. The three
social programs that are the Unemployment insurance, disability insurance, and worker
compensations. In order to introduction these three social insurance programs, the writer moves
from the primary approach of giving the definition to analyze the cost benefit of firms. First, the
unemployment insurance(UI) means that as a federal asked state owned program in which use
payroll taxes to pay benefits for workers who were laid off by companies. The author shows that
the unemployment insurance is funded by a workforce tax that is collected from firms and
averages 1.71 % over various states in America. The UI payroll tax is described as a partial

In this chapter, the author notes that the major moral hazard effect of the unemployment insurance
is understood in the duration of unemployment spell. The author claims that the moral hazard
effects of unemployment insurance, higher unemployment insurance benefits leads to an increase
unemployment duration. Statistically, the studies implied that every 10% rise in unemployment
insurance benefits result in unemployment durations that are 8% longer. On the other hand, the
occurrence of disability insurance moral hazard because it is hard to determine weather
individuals are truly disabled or not. Finally, the author points out that a lot of evidence related
with one of the main moral risk affect worker s compensation program. For instance, Gruber
(2015) found out that in worker s compensation every 10% increase generosity resulted in a 7%
increase in the rate of reported injury. In fact, the meaning of these results is that some workers are
wanted to fake injuries to get more employe benefit from the increase of workers compensation

Strike at San Fransisco State College Essay
Strike at San Fransisco State College
In the meantime at San Francisco State College, students in the Third World Liberation Front
(TWLF), a coalition of African American, Latino, and Asian American student groups, began
demanding reforms that addressed the concerns of students of color and the surrounding
community. After more than a year of negotiating with the school and organizing students, they
called a strike on November 6, 1968, that became the longest student strikein United States history.
When it was finally settled in March 1969, many of the students demands were met, including the
establishment of a School of Ethnic Studies.

Hayakawa, one of the few faculty members willing to go back to work, felt it was his duty to cross
the picket line and continue the education of the students who desired it. He believed the faculty
had forgotten their primary mission teaching, conducting research, and pursuing academic
excellence.
On November 28, 1968, Hayakawa was named acting president of San Francisco State College by
California Governor Ronald Reagan and the trustees of the California state college system. With
no previous administrative or political experience, his selection was an unpopular choice among
faculty members and students. Prior to his appointment, Hayakawa had served on a five person
presidential selection committee whose members had reportedly agreed not to seek the office.
Hayakawa denied any agreement had been made and accepted the job under extreme opprobrium
from committee members. Hayakawa was viewed as eccentric in appearance and style. Wearing
Hawaiian carnation leis and an Irish tam o shanter, his personal appearance was indicative of his
personality.
His first priority as acting president was to reopen the campus following Thanksgiving break
ending the strike. To achieve this objective, he yielded on some student demands and rejected
others. This, however, was unsatisfactory to student leaders, who employed 1,000 protesters to
close the campus on the first day following from Thanksgiving break. Taking a firm stance,

Reimbursement Alimony Research Paper
Do you believe reimbursement alimony is appropriate? Explain why or why not? To be honest I
do not quite understand this whole alimony problem. Based on our book reimbursement alimony
seeks to repay a spouse who worked during the marriage so that the other spouse could obtain
training or otherwise enhance his or her future earning capacity. Based on sample in our book I
do not see anything wrong with this reimbursement alimony. If one spouse enroll in school and
the other helps to pay for tuition and afterword the marriage fails apart, that I believe the spouse
who was going to school should paid back to the spouse for all the financial help provided. I

Importance Of Black Of Black Studies
Importance of Black Studies Over the course of the years that Black Studies has been a separate
functioning entity, there have been different ideological and political reasons for why Black
studies is needed in institutions of higher education. Scholars such as Nathan Hare, John Henrik
Clark, John W. Blassingame and Devere E. Pentony have given their own varied rationales as to
why they believe Black Studies is a necessity within these institutions; if it is even one at all. Each
of these men have different opinions on this topic but they do share one similar perspective. The
historical importance of black peopleshould be taught and made a fundamental component of Black
Studies because in institutions of higher education, where the populations are predominantly white,
staying connected to the black culture can be difficult. Getting educated about it enables students to
stay connected to their roots and use it to improve their future. Many black people grow up
unaware of who they are and where they come from because in the current education system black
people have been pushed to the side or spoken about very briefly. Students do not understand the
struggles of African Americanpeople, so therefore having courses that educate them about the
history of blacks, will spark understanding of black people as a whole and there might be a change
in black and even possibly white communities. Within both of Nathan Hare s articles, he discusses
his beliefs on what Black Studies can

Psychedelic Rock In The 1960s
The birth of the psychedelic, or as it was sometimes known, acid rock genre was the result of an
attempt to sonically stimulate the distorted perceptions experienced while under the influence of
hallucinogenic drugs such as mescaline, psilocybin and LSD. The term psychedelic had begun to
be applied to a few bands already in the early 1960s, with the Grateful Deadmaking their record
debut in the spring of 1967. By 1966, garage bands were exposed to the first media coverage of
LSD and, in some cases, may have had a band member who actually used LSD. Soon their song
lyrics moved from passing references to more vivid descriptions of psychedelic experience
(Johnson Stax, 2006, p.414). It was LSD which would have the greatest influence on... Show more

influenced in their sound, Iron Butterfly s was heavily tinged with a drug induced sonic flare

author Julian Cope so eloquently put it, the music they unleashed was grounded for much of the
time by a slothful sludge ladled out over a super slowed beat more indicative of the overworked
laboriousness of the band members...rather than being the result of some chemically induced torpor

The Role Of Politics, Religion, And Violence In The...
The classical era was a point during which humanity took a great leap forward in terms of
understanding and documenting itself. One work of fiction, the Metamorphoses by Apuleius,
has given historians a look into life into the second century C.E. by telling stories that were
written in that time period. Works of fiction often provide metaphors and allegories greater
societal and ideological trends of the civilizations they occupy, and that is especially true of this
text. Apuleius uses the extraordinary anecdotes of one character s journey to illustrate the
complexities of life as he knows it. In doing so he provides a window into a world long passed
without even being aware of it. This paper aims to analyze the roles of politics,... Show more

The sheer volume of violence in the ancient world also tells the story of its inequality. If all was
equal in the ancient world, then it would not have been as violent as it was. A government that
takes care of the people it rules does not have to worry about them robbing and killing one
another, and yet it continued to happen over and over again. In a society built on dominance
and conquest, it is no wonder that slavery was a prevalent as it was. Though slaves were often
treated as human beings and, in some cases, could even hold public office, slaves could still be
subjected to abuse and unlivable conditions. Though slaves were often treated fairly and with
dignity, they were still under the direct control of people who could do virtually anything they
wanted to them. A servant could cheat on his wife and face a far more severe punishment than if
the same crime was committed by an aristocrat (161 162). The ancient world was made up of
winners and losers the winners were the conquerors and the losers were the conquered. It seems
as though slavery was unavoidable as it was the only real way to keep these two groups apart in
terms of social stature. Slavery also reflects the perceived dominance that a more powerful
civilization had over another. In civilizations so concerned with how powerful and dominant they
were, slavery almost had to be instituted in order for ancient civilizations to keep both their values
and empires intact. The only reason for some

Littlefield Technologies Part 1
April 8, 2013
Group Report 1: Capacity Management
The following is an account of our Littlefield Technologies simulation game. The account includes
the decisions we made, the actions we took, and their impact on production and the bottom line.
Day 53
Our first decision was to buy a 2nd machine at Station 1. We did not have any analysis or strategy
at this point. Nonetheless, this turned out to be a wise investment, since Station 1 was in danger of
becoming a bottleneck in production.
Station 1 Utilization
One of our team members conducted a full operations analysis. Using the analysis, demand for the
268 days of production was forecasted, and our strategy set accordingly.
Day 71
On Day 71 Station 3 suddenly spiked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Station 2 Queue Size Day 78
Days 122 150
Increasing demand caused Stations 1 and 2 to max out and become bottlenecks. Our response was
to shift the Priorities at Station 2 and monitor the effects. We hesitated to buy extra capacity since,
based on our forecast, we expected demand to slacken.
Station 1 Utilization
Station 2 Utilization
Day 173
Due to the bottlenecks and Stations 1 and 2, our revenues started to decline sharply to the point
where they almost became zero. We continued to monitor production hoping that demand would
level out or decrease as expected.
Revenue Day 173
Day 177
By Day 177, our production has come to a halt, and the cash positions of the teams which had
bought extra machines had surpassed ours. To loosen the bottlenecks, we made the decision to
make an investment of 170K in machines. We bought an extra machine both at Station 1 and
Station 2. Almost immediately, our factory was running again and revenues started to rise.
Station 1 Utilization Day 150 268
Revenues Day 177 250
Conclusion
Our final Overall Standing was 4th position out of 6 teams. Our team could have been more
proactive before the game started. We should have invested in additional capacity before
bottlenecks occurred in production. The failure to avoid the bottlenecks can be attributed to our
miscalculation of demand after day 150. Otherwise, we would have invested in extra capacity at
critical points of increasing

Marketing Plan For The Local Grocery Store Essay
A trip to the local grocery store may seem like a mindless every day activity of providing
nourishment and basic needs for your family. However, many consumers fail to realize how much
consideration, time, and money is allocated by businesses attempting to understand why consumers
buy products over other similar products. Significant amounts of money are invested in
neuromarketing, brandingproducts, and developing the company s lifestyle brandto attract loyal
customers. Strategic branding isn t focused on the product, but creates a feeling within the
customer. The efforts of branding and neuromarketing have significant impact on how consumers
purchase the items presented to them.
Organizations have significantly evolved since the early 1980 s. Products went from scooping
out bulk items from a barrel to neatly packaged items in a row; sometimes with four or five
different labels of the exact same product displayed for the consumer to choose between. In
general, most products are equal by comparison, but the brand placed on the packaging instills a
sense of prestige over other inferior brands. Brands could conjure a feeling, think of Aunt Jemima s
comforting presence. (Klein, 2015 p. 779) The significance of creating a life style brand for
organizations meant that there were those in the industry who understood that advertising wasn t
just scientific; it was also spiritual. (Klein, 2015 p. 779) Consumers aren t just buying products,
they are buying brands.

Voltaire And Martin s Use Of Optimism In Candide
Candide, a novel based on its author s sardonic view of the philosophy rich 18th century Europe,
illustrates unwavering optimism. Ultimately, Voltaire only disputes living in the best of all
possible worlds when one does not go work in the garden, (Voltaire 144). He believes one has to
work and put forth effort in order for everything to be for the best.
Voltairecreated Pangloss to be an optimistic and abstract philosopher that epitomizes the idle
thinkers of the time that he deemed utterly ridiculous; he despised philosophers arguing without
understanding the outside world. Pangloss s ceaseless preaching about everything being for the
best keeps himself as well as Candide from participating in the realm around them. For example,
rather than saving the Anabaptist s life, Candide prioritizes Pangloss s outlook on his death s
convenience. It is proved, he used to say, that things cannot be other than they are, for since
everything was made for a purpose, it follows that everything is made for the best purpose, (Voltaire
20). Thus, it is not until they leave the castle that they learn anything different. ... Show more

Sociology Course At Environmental Problems
The introduction to sociology course this semester turned out to be a very intriguing class. I had
prior knowledge and connection to the subject, but still I thoroughly enjoyed the class and feel
that I learned and developed further knowledge into the subject of sociology. Many of the topics,
discussions, and assignments I really enjoyed doing, and I am glad that the course turned out to
be as great as it was. Due to this, I choose to not write about any activities or topics that I didn t
enjoy learning, because all in all, I really enjoyed everything about this course. I have a connection
to sociologysince a young age, and I very much enjoy studying all the topics we have learned thus
far in this intro class. To write about assignments or topics that I didn t like would be hard for me
because I would have to make up excuses to why I didn t enjoy something discussed. My favorite
topic that we discussed in class was environmental problems. I really enjoy looking at
environmental problems and the implications that arise in society stemming from the
environmental problems in our world. We discussed the types of pollution and the complications
that come from the different types of pollution. I really enjoy learning more about the topic of
environmental change, because I already consider myself to be fairly interested in the topic prior to
its discussion in class. We also talked about the social movements backing environmental change. I

Defining Personal Responsibility and Exploring My Own...
What is personal responsibility? Some examples people would probably come up with would be
these: working, chores, taking care of your family and some might even say going to school and

is often the mechanism by which education is related to earnings. Higher levels of education

many occupations are treated as job training that may be required for a position or earn the

which all fell along the same lines of thinking about personal responsibility. It seemed that anyone
who thinks about personal responsibility automatically begins to list their everyday duties:

Hamlet Nihilist Analysis
To be or not to be a nihilist
In 1927, Martin Heidegger observed that nihilism was already the normal state of man that the
disbelief in life having objective meaning is the most prevalent. If Heidegger is correct, then our
current era is one in which Hamlet would fit in well.. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much
of a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his
crises of inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by
a lack of spirit: Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant
brooding, and radical skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing
and has no purpose. When Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking
makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii. 254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental
concepts such as good and evil; he dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should
be devoutly religious as a man in Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of
belief in good and evil, and therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action
requires the veils of illusion. (Nietzsche 35).
Hamlets nihilistic bent rises to the fore when conversing with Rosencrantz and gentle Guildenstern.
During their first discussion they produce a malignant energy that leads them to deep cynicism and
a demeaning of all good and pure ideas

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Judges
When judges are spoken of as a group, they are referred to as the judiciary. There are many
different levels of judges, but the basic function is the same at all levels: judges are there to
adjudicate on disputes in a fair, unbiased way, applying the legal rules of England and Wales.
There is no clear cut division between civil and criminal judges, as many judges at the various
levels are required to sit for both types of case. This in itself causes problem as, before their
appointment, most judges will have specialised in one area of law. The head of the judiciary is
the Lord Chief Justice. When considering judges the first point is that there is a marked difference
between what are we called superior judges and inferior judges. Superior... Show more content on

Tartuffe Play Analysis
On Saturday, December 3rd at 4 pm, I watched the play Tartuffe at York College. Tartuffe is a
classic French play written by Moliere. It was originally named Tartuffe, ou I Imposteur . And it
was first performed in 1664. The play is a comedy that centers around the character Tartuffe who is
a hypocritical holy man. Throughout the play Moliere indirectly tackles many societal problems in
his time. The play starts in Orgon s house. Where him and his mother (Madame Pernelle) are having
a discussion about Tartuffe, who is a beggar and a holy man. The other members of this family
strongly dislike Tartuffe because they believe that he is a self righteous con artist. In the next scene

Reaction Paper On Bungee Jumping
пїјFINAL
Dante Mattson 11 Physics
28 August 2014
!
Bungee Jumping is an extreme sport, it requires the participant to jump from a bridge, crane or
other high place while secured at the ankles with a nylon cased rubber band. From the mere sight
of someone Bungee Jumping, one might assume that the act is very dangerous for obvious
reasons, for example: The rope breaking there s nothing to save you down there, so why do so
many people put their lives in a piece of elastic? Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the
elastic to protect the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the
gravitational potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the
bottom of the jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real
bungee jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for
bungee jumping. This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer
drop to equilibrium, rather than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring
force is essential to bungee jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without
said force, the force of the person jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing
it to potentially break and the person to fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened
oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the
motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be produced by a force. Bungee
jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the gravity produces
acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The restoring
oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law
equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be
compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of
elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional
to the stress applied to it. Hooke s Law is crucial to this EEI because Hooke s Law calculates the
extension of an elastic material from the spring constant (k) and the change in x, also known as
∆x and will determine the safest alternative for use in Bungee

Ray Bradbury’s Distinct Use of Voice
Ray Bradbury s voice was distinct and easily detected by his most common use of important
elements. Bradbury s voice was detailed and easily detected in his short stories making them
more interesting to read through his constant use of diction, detail, and imagery. Bradbury
applied focus to certain details and a specified word choice and imagery that added to the
detailed scenes he created. He carefully planned his stories with the specified language that
related to each story. Bradbury s diction set the foundation of his specific voice by using
specialized language even in his short stories to show his effort in helping the reader understand
each detail of his writing. He used the vocabulary that depended on the topic and occasion of his
stories in order to get the exact mental image for his readers. Bradbury described William
Philippus Phelps tattoos as, He looked as if he had dropped and been crushed between the steel
rollers of a print press, and come out like an incredible rotogravure (Bradbury 385). Bradbury s
use of the word rotogravure specifies to a specialized language dealing with printing. The
importance of his word choice helped the reader to create the image of a massive old printing
press. Another example was, Lavinia looked and the ravine was a dynamo that never stopped
running, night or day . . . (Bradbury 2). In The Whole Town s Sleeping , Bradbury represented the

Classical Music And Its Influence On The Modern World
There are many types of music in the world, with many different artists, backgrounds, and stories
to tell. Every genre holds within itself a message, and this message shows a glimpse of the past
as well as the possibilities of the future. People everywhere love music for these reasons and
more, and I love one style of music in particular: a style that brings me comfort, makes me
question the world, and gives me insight as to who I am. Classical music describes a genre that,
for me, means more than just notes on the page or in the air; the music speaks to a deep and
wonder seeking part of me that cannot quite be described using words. The true evolution of
primitive music began around 1750 during the Classical Era in Europe, with the pioneering works
of Mozart and Haydn, as well as many others. Deriving from these great composers, the genre
further evolved during the Romantic and Modern Eras by encompassing a deeply emotional and
expressive side unlike anything heard before. Indeed, these periods of music entail a vast and rich
history of pieces written to please royalty, soft and haunting works of lost love, and vast orchestral
suites that try to capture the majesty of the natural world. Such vast detail and eloquent
composition allows the listener of classical music to immediately be transported to another time,
another world, and especially another mindset. Other genres of music may contain hints of these
same elements, but none can fully compare to the true qualities

Water Scarcity in History
Natural ecosystems require water for the survival of the plants and animals that live within them.
These ecosystems help to regulate water quality and quantity of water. Wetlands hold water in
periods of high rainfall, slowly releasing it during dryer periods, and purify it of heavy metals and
other contaminants. Forests recharge our groundwater, which can be used elsewhere for drinking
or irrigation. (Bergkamp 1) Natural ecosystems can help to prevent floods, provide shelter and
millions of people are able to get their food, water, and fuel from these areas. As the world
population continues to expand people are overusing water and destroying many natural resources.

Desert areas have a short supply of water, the climate is very dry and frequently there are long

Africa is home to 6.3 percent of the world s population, but it contains only 1.4 percent of the
world s renewable fresh water. Water shortages, polluted water and poor water managementare

schistosomiasis and dysentery harm or kill millions of people each year. People are not able to
maintain a minimum standard of personal hygiene and are forced out of necessity to drink water

treatment for these diseases, the only answer is a safe water supply. Some of these diseases in hot
climates are not only caused by bad sanitation, but by the presence of water. Insects and parasites
breed in standing water, so water that is transported from one place to another may be spreading
disease. In these underdeveloped countries there is not enough money to install safe water
supplies. In areas where water is not readily available the women and children carry water long
distances to their homes. As the population in Africa increases, so does the demand for water.

Cardiovascular Disease Is The Number One Killer
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States, causing about 610,000 deaths
yearly (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Cardiovascular disease is defined as a
group of disorders damaging the heart and blood vessels, usually involving the blockage of vessels,
which in turn harm the heart (WHO, 2015). A 2011 American Heart Association statement
predicted that without intervention, 40% of United States adults will have at least one form of
Cardiovascular diseaseby 2030. A large portion of these deaths by cardiovascular disease is due to
the sedentary population. To better prevent cardiovascular disease, the Physical Activity Guidelines
for Americans Advisory Committee stated that adults should complete about 150 minutes of
moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity weekly
(Barry, Blair, Church, Hooker, Sui, Warren, 2010). Research has shown that meeting these
recommendations is linked with lower cardiovascular disease risk, as well as reduced risk of
mortality. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that only about 20.3% of
Americans meet these guidelines. These statistics show that the majority of the United States
population does not get nearly the amount of physical activity they need. However, even though
many people are not doing the recommended amount of physical activity, this may not mean that
they are living a sedentary life. Living a sedentary lifestyle is

pain. A very famous performer Shakira who Is a Columbian singer and dancer has aided in
popularizing belly dancing. In many of her music videos she performed this dance and anytime
I think of belly dancing I automatically associate it with Shakira. Cultural appropriation is when
something is taken from a culture and performed by someone else with out crediting where it
originated from. In many of her music videos Shakira performs this dance and is wearing the
beaded skirt with the short cropped top. By Shakira performing this dance and popularizing it she
did not express where it originated and the true meaning behind this dance. Many people then
associate this dance with Spain and Columbia because that is where Shakira is from. The true
origin of this dance comes from the middle east and is mistaken by many people because of how

If you have never heard of polygamy you will and if you had in the past it was most likely due to

This was not an uncommon reaction towards David s art at the time. However, the painting was
restored to a place of honor by Baudelaire, who wrote :
This painting is David s masterpiece and one of the great curiosities of modern art because, by a
strange feat, it has nothing trivial or vile. What is most surprising in this very unusual visual poem
is that it was painted very quickly. When one thinks of the beauty of the lines, this quickness is
bewildering. This is food for the strong, the triumph of spiritualism.
David s artwork did not just involve the use of pretty colours. Many of his paintings beared
powerfull meanings, historically and politically. Culturally they had a huge impact on social
activity during the French Revolution. The story of Brutus was popular with educated sections of
the French public during the eighteenth century. Voltaire s play Brutus , was performed on stage
from 1730. In November 1790, the first two performances of a revival of Brutus at the National
Theater in Paris took place. At the second performance of the revival, a stage tableau of David s
painting was acted out at the moment when the death of Brutus son was announced.

political heroism in which the best interests of society are put before those of the individual. His
painting also appeared at a time when a general dissatisfaction

The first ten days of college are some other experience. When I arrived on campus for the Eagle

was just extremely hot. I was breaking a sweat walking up and down the Southern Pines stairs. The
next day was time to say goodbye to my family. After giving my mom a big warm hug and a kiss

the feeling really crossed my mindthat I wasn t going to see her again for another five weeks. It
was an emotional few seconds saying goodbye, but I knew my mom was proud of my
accomplishments that I achieved. Motived to work hard and make her even more of a proud

Well, it was not long before my mom was disappointed in me. My first week here I actually got
myself in debt and my parents were furious at me. They told me in a serious tone that if that ever
happens again, I will have to make myself money. Money management has already gotten me by

`` On Teenagers And Tattoos `` By Andres Martin Essay
Teenagers are rebellious by nature, as adolescence adventures down the road of self identity. Teens
are often viewed as the miscreants or vandals that plague the streets with their toxicity and obscene
tendencies, and although aggravating, proves vital for increased maturity in future endeavors.
However, teens can make decisions that last a lifetime, for example, tattoos. Tattoos are fairly
controversial at younger ages, but are growing more and more popular amongst adolescents with
the introduction and glorification of such body art by varying media, such as celebrities.
Teenagers are exploring the realm of body modifications at ever increasing rate, but contradictory
to common opinion, tattoos are a great candidate for an emotional catalyst, source of stability in a
time of need, or reminders of time long far gone.
On Teenagers and Tattoos is an informational article, written by Andres Martin, which discusses the
reasons and psychology behind the rising popularity of tattoos amongst adolescents. Martin (2000)
starts by identifying the simple reason of causation concerning the spike, stating that tattoos and
piercing can offer a concrete and readily available solution for many of the identity crises and
conflicts normative to adolescent development (p.143). Martin then details the strenuous nature of
adolescence, and shows that tattoos have more of a symbolic meaning than just a skull, and
provides 2 examples of such cases. Afterward, Martin explains in further detail,

Certain things, they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of

Holden Caulfield a teenage boy has a love for innocence or children and things staying the same.
He has no real idea of what will become of him and no one gives him the answer or even listens
to him. This novel is relevant to today s teenagers because people always try to tell us what we

Change is inevitable, but Holden wants to defy just that although he can t. Holden states that, The
best thing, though, about the museum was that everything always stayed right where it was.
Nobody d move. Holden enjoyed everything staying how it was and not changing for him. If
everything stayed the same he would not have to worry about what would become of me or what
would happen in the future, he could just reminisce on the past and all the children would stay safe.
This relates to me because although going to college seems fun the idea of moving on and people
I know growing up and changing is scary and leaves uncertainty but if everything stayed the same
there s nothing to fear.
To sum up the Catcher and the rye was a novel about a lost teen that ran away from school
looking for answers. He was caught up in wanting everything to stay the same and saving
innocence. This novel is relevant because it gives insight on a teen although fictional that is
having a hard time figuring out his future and most teens do. He looks at his elders and peers to

important and impactful. Money funds innovate ideas and at moment, there seems so be very
little left in the United States Postal Service s budget to support new designs and processes. The
United States Postal Service has seen a decline in use since the introduction of e mails.
According to statistics presented by the Radicati Group, in 2010 an average of 294 billion e mails
was sent each day. The market is no longer what it used to be. However, the United States Postal

Shipwrecks In Libya Research Paper
At least 239 migrants are believed to have drowned this week in two shipwrecks off the coast of
Libya, the United Nations refugee agency said Thursday, adding to the toll in what was already
the deadliest year on record in the Mediterranean Sea. Survivor accounts suggest that two
crowded boats broke up just off the Libyan coast Wednesday, said Carlotta Sami, spokeswoman
for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The 31 survivors were taken to the Italian island of
Lampedusa, which has become a rescue hub amid an ever deadlier crisis as migrants depart
Africa s northern shores trying to reach Europe. The reports from the survivors could not be
independently confirmed, but it is common for migrant ships to be filled far beyond capacity, and

missing in the Mediterranean to 4220 this year, the highest on record, Sami said.... Show more

Pregnant women and at least six children were on board, survivors told the UNHCR, but no
children were saved in the rescue, which took place about 40km off Libya s coast. One woman lost
her 2 month old baby, Sami said, and 12 bodies were recovered. The survivors said they were in the
cold waters for hours before being rescued about 3pm that day. They said more than 140 people
were aboard the boat. Migrants who fell in the water from a crowded rubber dinghy are rescued.

Traditional Schools Vs. Year-Round Schools
Would you rather be home playing video games or going on vacations during the summer or in
school? Year round schools are TERRIBLE. They spend way too much money, and they have to
run their AC all summer long. They have to pay a lot of money to keep bus drivers and other staff
members.
Year round schools are 230 days and traditional schools are 180 days. Year round schools have 9
weeks of school and then a 2 3 week break. Traditional schools have breaks near the holidays and a
2 3 month break in the summer. Traditional schools don t have to run there A/C all summer long.
Year round schools do because they have to go through the summer.
My first reason that I am against year round schools is that they spend way too much money. They

  • 2. Marketing Options For Restaurants And Luxury Retailers For... GiltCity Review GiltCity targets upscale restaurants and luxury retailers for daily deals and other incentives, which distinguishes the company from the crowded field of coupon selling companies. Although this marketing option is only available in limited cities in the United States, fine dining restaurants can reach targeted customers who earn more than $100,000 annually. GiltCity incentives aren t always financial but often include perks like backstage access to concerts and entertainment venues, conversations with the head chef, celebrity meet and greets and other value based inducements. Of course, worrying about devaluing your upscale restaurant by offering discounts might not matter as much as you always feared. Upscale restaurants can often set their own rules, based on their customers, cuisine and reputations. We ve regularly warned restaurateurs in our posts about the dangers of devaluing their brands by offering too many incentives and running coupons that reduce regular prices, except for BOGO offers. • 3. Comparison Of Catch-22 And Joseph Heller s Idea Of War What s the Catch?: An Examination of Catch 22 and Joseph Heller s Idea of War Joseph Heller s Catch 22 is a comical novel of bombardier named Yossarian and his attempt to escape the war effort of War World II. The novel does not contain a linear plot, which creates some confusion and uncertainty in the story. Also, the conclusion is not a complete resolution, as Yossarian finally manages to escape to Sweden by the end of novel, but that is not the resolution to the war. Therefore, if Yossarian escaping the war is not the ultimate objective of Catch 22, then what is Heller trying to convey in his novel? In Catch 22, Heller strives to have his audience understand the realities of war, which includes the corruption of authority, absurdity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What did matter was that everyone thought it existed and that was much worse... , since Catch 22 is not real but people believe it is, it cannot be altered. (Heller 409) Heller also uses Catch 22 to demonstrate the corruption of authority in war, for example, Colonel Cathcart is responsible for the number of missions his squadron must fly but under Catch 22 he can continue to raise the number of missions without a concrete reason. Heller further elaborates on the corruption of authority in war through other elements of the novel. The hierarchy of authority in Catch 22 is parallel to a military chain of commands, general, captain, private and etc, but one particular character holds much more power than his authoritative title grants him, that is Ex. PFC Wintergreen, a multi demoted private who is in charge of distribution and communication. Wintergreen is the lowest of low, yet he is able to alter documents and mail to cause miscommunication between generals and higher ups. Through the ironic characterization of Wintergreen, Heller conveys that the title position and its authority does not always correspond to its proportional amount power. Most of the men in high command are selfish and are only interested in themselves. As Colonel Cathcart expresses ambition to ascend up the authorial ladder, he continues to increase ... On November 28, 1968, Hayakawa was named acting president of San Francisco State College by California Governor Ronald Reagan and the trustees of the California state college system. With no previous administrative or political experience, his selection was an unpopular choice among faculty members and students. Prior to his appointment, Hayakawa had served on a five person presidential selection committee whose members had reportedly agreed not to seek the office. • 8. Importance Of Black Of Black Studies Importance of Black Studies Over the course of the years that Black Studies has been a separate functioning entity, there have been different ideological and political reasons for why Black studies is needed in institutions of higher education. Scholars such as Nathan Hare, John Henrik Clark, John W. Blassingame and Devere E. Pentony have given their own varied rationales as to why they believe Black Studies is a necessity within these institutions; if it is even one at all. Each of these men have different opinions on this topic but they do share one similar perspective. The historical importance of black peopleshould be taught and made a fundamental component of Black Studies because in institutions of higher education, where the populations are predominantly white, staying connected to the black culture can be difficult. Getting educated about it enables students to stay connected to their roots and use it to improve their future. Many black people grow up unaware of who they are and where they come from because in the current education system black people have been pushed to the side or spoken about very briefly. Students do not understand the struggles of African Americanpeople, so therefore having courses that educate them about the history of blacks, will spark understanding of black people as a whole and there might be a change in black and even possibly white communities. The sheer volume of violence in the ancient world also tells the story of its inequality. If all was equal in the ancient world, then it would not have been as violent as it was. A government that takes care of the people it rules does not have to worry about them robbing and killing one another, and yet it continued to happen over and over again. In a society built on dominance and conquest, it is no wonder that slavery was a prevalent as it was. Though slaves were often treated as human beings and, in some cases, could even hold public office, slaves could still be subjected to abuse and unlivable conditions. Though slaves were often treated fairly and with dignity, they were still under the direct control of people who could do virtually anything they wanted to them. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much of a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his crises of inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by a lack of spirit: Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant brooding, and radical skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing and has no purpose. When Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii. 254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental concepts such as good and evil; he dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should be devoutly religious as a man in Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of belief in good and evil, and therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action requires the veils of illusion. (Nietzsche 35). Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the elastic to protect the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the gravitational potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the bottom of the jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real bungee jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for bungee jumping. This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer drop to equilibrium, rather than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring force is essential to bungee jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without said force, the force of the person jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing it to potentially break and the person to fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be produced by a force. Bungee jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the gravity produces acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The restoring oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional to the stress applied to it. Bradbury s voice was detailed and easily detected in his short stories making them more interesting to read through his constant use of diction, detail, and imagery. Bradbury applied focus to certain details and a specified word choice and imagery that added to the detailed scenes he created. He carefully planned his stories with the specified language that related to each story. Bradbury s diction set the foundation of his specific voice by using specialized language even in his short stories to show his effort in helping the reader understand each detail of his writing. He used the vocabulary that depended on the topic and occasion of his stories in order to get the exact mental image for his readers. Bradbury described William Philippus Phelps tattoos as, He looked as if he had dropped and been crushed between the steel rollers of a print press, and come out like an incredible rotogravure (Bradbury 385). • 27. Classical Music And Its Influence On The Modern World There are many types of music in the world, with many different artists, backgrounds, and stories to tell. Every genre holds within itself a message, and this message shows a glimpse of the past as well as the possibilities of the future. People everywhere love music for these reasons and more, and I love one style of music in particular: a style that brings me comfort, makes me question the world, and gives me insight as to who I am. Classical music describes a genre that, for me, means more than just notes on the page or in the air; the music speaks to a deep and wonder seeking part of me that cannot quite be described using words. The true evolution of primitive music began around 1750 during the Classical Era in Europe, with the pioneering works of Mozart and Haydn, as well as many others. Deriving from these great composers, the genre further evolved during the Romantic and Modern Eras by encompassing a deeply emotional and expressive side unlike anything heard before. Indeed, these periods of music entail a vast and rich history of pieces written to please royalty, soft and haunting works of lost love, and vast orchestral suites that try to capture the majesty of the natural world. Such vast detail and eloquent composition allows the listener of classical music to immediately be transported to another time, another world, and especially another mindset. Other genres of music may contain hints of these same elements, but none can fully compare to the true qualities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cardiovascular disease is defined as a group of disorders damaging the heart and blood vessels, usually involving the blockage of vessels, which in turn harm the heart (WHO, 2015). A 2011 American Heart Association statement predicted that without intervention, 40% of United States adults will have at least one form of Cardiovascular diseaseby 2030. A large portion of these deaths by cardiovascular disease is due to the sedentary population. To better prevent cardiovascular disease, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Advisory Committee stated that adults should complete about 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity weekly (Barry, Blair, Church, Hooker, Sui, Warren, 2010). Research has shown that meeting these recommendations is linked with lower cardiovascular disease risk, as well as reduced risk of mortality. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that only about 20.3% of Americans meet these guidelines. What is most surprising in this very unusual visual poem is that it was painted very quickly. When one thinks of the beauty of the lines, this quickness is bewildering.
