Essays On Romeo And Juliet
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essays on Romeo and Juliet" can be a multifaceted endeavor,
encompassing various challenges that writers may encounter. To begin with, delving into the
extensive world of Shakespearean literature demands a profound understanding of the play
itself. "Romeo and Juliet" is a complex tragedy with intricate characters, nuanced themes, and
poetic language that requires careful analysis.
One of the primary challenges lies in interpreting the timeless tale in a fresh and insightful
manner. With countless essays already written on this iconic work, maintaining originality can be
a daunting task. Writers must navigate the delicate balance of presenting well-known elements of
the play while offering a unique perspective or interpretation to captivate readers.
Moreover, the task involves delving into the historical and cultural context of the Elizabethan
era, understanding the intricacies of Shakespearean language, and exploring the thematic
underpinnings such as love, fate, and conflict. This requires extensive research and critical
thinking to ensure that the essay not only comprehensively covers the essential aspects but also
contributes something new to the existing body of literary analysis.
Another aspect that adds to the complexity is the necessity for a seamless integration of quotes
and passages from the play to support arguments. Proper citation and a coherent flow between
textual evidence and the writer's analysis are imperative for a well-structured and convincing
essay.
In essence, writing an essay on "Essays on Romeo and Juliet" is not merely a mechanical task but
a literary exploration that demands a deep understanding of the play, creative interpretation, and
the ability to synthesize information cohesively.

The Injuries Of The Knee Joint
The knee joint is one of many synovial joints within the human body. It is the largest
joint in the body and is known as a ginglymus, or hinge, joint involving the
articulation of the femur and the tibia. A hinge joint is a joint between two or more
articulating bones, moving in only one plane. The movements that occur at the knee
are flexion and extension. The knee joint is a modified hinge joint, therefore as well
as allowing the movements of flexion and extension; the movements of internal
rotation and external rotation are possible. The knee joint has six degrees of freedom,
moving in all three planes: the frontal plane, the sagittal plane and the transverse
plane. Internal rotation and external rotation of the knee move about the... Show more

Ligaments are connective tissues with the function of joining articulating bones at
joints, in this case, the femur and tibia. Fibroblasts are the cells that make up the
ligaments, which are made up of between 70% and 80% collagen. The high level of
collagen gives the ligament tissue high tensile strength. The flexibility of the
ligaments comes from the elastin fibers that are in the extracellular matrix, which
counters the solid nature of the bone (Prater A.M., 2010). The ligaments of the knee
assist in controlling the movements that occur at the joint.
The collateral ligaments are positioned on each side of the joint (the medial collateral
ligament on the medial side and the lateral collateral ligament on the lateral side).
The cruciate ligaments are found deep within the knee joint. The anterior cruciate
ligament attaches to the medial and anterior aspect of the tibial plateau and on the
lateral femoral condyle. The posterior cruciate ligament attaches to the posterior
aspect of the tibial plateau and the medial femoral condyle (Johns Hopkins Sports
Medicine). The names of the cruciate ligaments arise from their nature of crossing
over each other between each of their attachments and from the position of their tibial
attachments. (Palastanga Soames, 2012).
The interaction of the ACL and PCL at varying degrees of flexion accounts for some
of the dynamic stability of the knee joint (Chhabra et al. C.
The Seven Habits
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey became a
blueprint for personal development when it was published in 1989 First of all,
Covey defined habits as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire: Knowledge
is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and why. Skill is the how to do. And
finally, desire is the motivation, the want to do. Now, a paradigm is a framework
containing the basic assumptions, ways of thinking, and methodology that are
commonly accepted by members of a scientific community. The author divided the
habits into two categories: dependence and interdependence. Dependence is the
paradigm under which we are born, relying upon others to take care of us. On the
other side, independence is the paradigm under which we make our decisions and
take care of ourselves. Finally, interdependence is the... Show more content on

Imagine there are 2 people and a tree with 5 apples on it. They are both too short to
reach the apples but if one of them sits on the other s shoulders he can reach all 5 of
the apples. This is called synergizing: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
You can t achieve this with everyone but you can always look for opportunities to
create a synergy. With every synergistic opportunity you create, you can gather many
more apples than when you are doing it by yourself. Now to define synergy, it means
two heads are better than one. Synergize is the habit of creative cooperation. It is
teamwork, open mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old
problems. Because when people begin to interact together genuinely, and they re open
to each other s influence, they begin to gain new insight. The capability of inventing
new approaches is increased exponentially because of differences. And valuing
differences is what really drives synergy, such as the mental, emotional, and
psychological differences. These differences should be seen as strengths, not
weaknesses. Habit 7: Sharpen the

The Importance Of Archetype In Today s Culture
Throughout the season of winter, a yellow zesty fruit blossoms from a tree with
thorny branches and white flowers with purple edges. This yellow citrus fruit is
known as a lemon. In today s culture, lemons are used for food, skin, hair, cleanings,
and are even featured in an iconic American singer s album. You do not necessarily
eat a lemonas a whole. It is usually ingested by cutting it either in half or in pieces,
and squeezed for its juice. The acidic juice from a lemon has a very sour and bitter
taste but it is enjoyed by many. Adding lemon to a plate changes its whole flavor.

Wrong. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word lemon is of
course, BeyoncГ©. She recently came out with a new visual album named
Lemonade. Highsnobiety.com (2016) mentions that BeyoncГ© s sixth studio
album debuted overwhelmingly positive reviews and was described as defiant,
brave and powerful, and many felt the visual album was one of her strongest to

one of the most personal songs on the album; the most intimate. The video is
simple and beautiful, as well. Vulture.com (2016) announced that it was the first
video to feature Jay Z [her husband]. They also quoted that it s one of the most
intimate windows into their marriage they ve ever allowed. Here, she reaches

Lemonade because I went to see her in concert in Miami at the Marlins Stadium. It
was, in fact, one of the best days of my life. I got the tickets for my 18th birthday

gotten a ticket so we all carpooled together and listened to the album the whole way

for employment; I selected Computer Aided Drafting because it s so extraordinary
with AutoCAD, because of the uses of Computer Aided Drafting, History of CAD,

First off, CAD is computer technology that has contributed in design and drafting of

The prehistoric technique of undertaking drafting application was on paper with a
pencil and it required an extensive amount of time. They used a drafting table with
rulers and templates to draw the most detailed view they could. Technology in
Computer Aided Design applications has transformed and evolved to have numerous
applications. For example; my dad used CAD in construction and remodeling.
Remodeling kitchens and bathrooms with CAD was an enormous necessity because
the customer received an enhanced 3 D detailed view. They also use CAD for
architectural structures, roads, aircraft, ships, cars, digital cameras, TVs, aerospace,

Black African American History Summary
The first people to want change besides the black Haitians were the mixed people
because they according the video they were the first ones to ask for equality. Every
time they were in the presence of a white person they had to stand up and call them
by whatever title they chose to be called. The mixed race people petitioned Frances
new government in 1791 for the rights of citizenship; said petition asked for civil
protection, and that angered the white population. They extend the equal rights to
the small population to the small group of mixed race people that were born of two
free parents. The governor of St. Domingue ignored what they were told; the masters

Toussaint realized that although the fight started with the French they were the best
they had so he rejoined the French. France and the slaves took out the Spanish and
the English. Other countries/ colonies didn t want any French men to come because
they would the tell the story of how black slaves won a war against their masters.
When Napoleon takes over some see him as a beacon of hope to reinstate slavery; but
Toussaint doesn t seem like the idea so he wrote his own laws where slaver is not
allowed. It was the first to discriminate based on the color of their skin, he put
himself as a dictator. This sent Napoleon on edge so much so that he sends men to
take the people of St. Domngiue, the natives fight for three months until Toussaint
was captured and charged with treason. Napoleon reinstates slavery and the people
of St. Domnguie go back to war. Jean Jacques Dessalines tactic worked and ended

Sigmund Freud and His Oedipal Complex
In general, Sigmund Freud and his oedipal complex are among the most often
discussed critical theories and argumentative issues found in modern day
psychology. Freud s theory has brought a lot of controversies and has stirred up
crazy questions among our close minded and immature society. I mean, why on
earth would a child s desire be to sleep with their mother and kill their father? To us
this seems like a rather far fetched idea and parents can t try to accept the fact that
perhaps their child is out to get them. Back in the day, this idea was totally believable
and at one point, universal. Freud believed the Oedipusmyth bears witness to the
prevalence of this Oedipal Complex, both in that it was a popular topic for Greek
tragedy and the fact that modern audiences still relate to the story of Oedipus (who
by the way, murdered his father Laius and then married his mother Jocasta). If it
happened to the Greeks, why couldn t it happen to us?
The answer is simple. In 2014, we do not believe that we are the play things of
gods sitting on clouds. Its common sense. First of all gods can t possible sit on
clouds without falling. Secondly, extra terrestrial beings aren t the ones responsible
for being the fortune cookies in our lives. Sure, there is the possibility of gods but is
it really believable that the fate they have for us will always remain unchangeable?
Probably not. And that is the exact notion that led Freud to his mistakes and our
criticisms toward him. He viewed

There were many impacts of the nuclear arms race. Some we re positive, and some
were negative. The nuclear arms race was a race to advance nuclear technology. This
race was primarily between the Soviet Union and the United States. There were large
monetary investments from both nations into their nuclear arms programs. Everyone
thought both sides would be destroyed in the end, both economically and physically.
The nuclear arms race impacted civilians, economies, military, and technology in both
nations.
The nuclear arms race was caused by the decreasing Soviet American relations. This
was because the United States wanted to control all atomic knowledge and weaponry.

spies also tried to steal plans and blueprints to have in their program. The nuclear
arms race also advanced technology of each nation. The United States and the Soviet
Union gained technology to provide nuclear energy. They also gained technology to
put nuclear generators in submarines that would make it possible for a submarine to
stay at sea for months. Of course, they also gained atomic weaponry that can

The Fault Of Our Stars By John Green
In the novel, The Fault in Our Stars, the author, John Green, provides the reader with
a theme that people tend to differ other people who do not appear to be the same as

The Majority Of Male Characters
The majority of male characters in Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion appear to be
fundamentally flawed in some important way. Freddy Eynsford Hill is raised as a
gentleman and, thus, is a fool who has trouble hailing a cab, let alone finding any
suitable occupation for himself. Henry Higgins is well educated but ill mannered,
alienating him from society due to his inconsideration for others. Alfred Doolittle
appears to lack any sort of morals and seems equally free from fear and conscience.
The only male figure who stands out is Colonel Pickering, who seems talented,
respectful, and compassionate compared to his competition. Even so, Pickering is
only superficially a gentleman; his concern, respect, and treatment for others are
overshadowed by his lack of growth and the play s criticism of gentlemanly
behavior as a whole. Pickering s true concern and compassion for others,
particularly Eliza, distinguish him from the other male characters. His first words
to Eliza are, won t you sit down? (Shaw II, 39). This courtesy, which Higgins does
not extend, rightfully suggests that he thought and felt about her as if [she] were
something better than a scullerymaid, much to Higgins chagrin (V, 122). At the
same time, Pickering is not infatuated unlike Freddy (V, 130), who laughably spends
most of his nights on Wimpole Street because it s the only place where [he s] happy
(IV, 106). All Eliza wants is a little kindness, and Pickering, who is neither

embracing my own self value through Christian morality, I must also encourage
these freshmen that they are valuable because of their relationship with God in this

will take care of oneself in all ways that are necessary. Self discipline is self caring

freshmen the importance of it as well. My own relationship with God is one based
on self caring, the petitioning for forgiveness and the constant gratification that goes
along with it. When it comes down to it, we all have the free will to believe what
we want to believe, however, it is integral to these
Reflection On Clinical Surgery
On October 16th, 2017, I was able to observe a surgery during my clinical session.
Surgery is defined as the art and science of treating diseases, injuries and deformities
by operation and instrumentation. (Lewis, 2017) The reason for surgery can include:
diagnosis, or determining the presence and extent of a pathologic condition, cure, or
eliminating and/or repairing of a pathologic condition, palliation, or alleviation of
symptoms that does not cure, prevention, or removing something from the body
before it becomes cancer, and exploration, surgical examination to determine the
nature or extent of a disease. (Lewis, 2017) My observation day started in the
preoperative unit of the hospitalwhere I met with the pre op nurse. During this time I
was able to introduce myself to the patient and had her consent to allow me observe
her surgery. My patient was a 39Y female who was to undergo a robotic assist

polyps and severe cramping. These are the factors that contributed to her having the

history also includes gastroesophageal reflux disease, bilateral chondromalacia patella

Preparation of Levofloxacin Cocrystals.
Levofloxacin cocrystals were prepared by the solvent evaporation method. Varying
ratios of levofloxacin and coformers such as stearic acid (1:1, 1:3, 1:5 and 1:7) and
sodium saccharin (1:1 and 2:1) were physically mixed in a glass mortar. Each
powder mixture was transferred into a round bottom flask and dissolved using
ethanol as a solvent for crystallization. The round bottom flask containing ethanolic
solution of the drug and coformer was attached to the rotary flash evaporator
(Heidolph, Germany) and ethanol was evaporated under vacuum at 40 В± 2 В°C
with continuous rotation at a speed of 30 rpm. The solid dry powders obtained were
dried in a desiccator at room temperature for a period of 24 h for complete removal of
solvent traces. The dry powders were passed through a 250 пЃm sieve with mesh size

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Comparative Essay
Through watching many of Burton s films and that of the German Expressionist era,
it is clear that there are many visual similarities. One of Burton s earliest works is a
animated short he made while working at Disney. Vincent was a five minute, black
and white, stop motion animation based on a poem that Burton had wrote previously.
The filmas some similarities to Expressionist film; the black and white setting and
several visuals such as the London street, the staircase to Vincent s bedroom and

Bottom Edward Scissorhands .
Showing the contrast of the world the main character lives in.
Throughout this film, there are many links to The Cabinet of Dr Caligari , possibly
most notably, the difference between the dark Gothic castle which Edward is found
in, and the almost sickly setting where the residents of the neighbourhood live,
based upon Burton s childhood in Burbank, California. The contrast between these
two worlds is very similar to the world which Francis recalls in his flashback and that
of the asylum in The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (fig 8).
Another piece of Expressionism which features in Burton s work, often alongside
his use of contrast, is his use of shadows. Expressionist film included shadows as a
way of showing what was happening but without having the actual character on
screen, this added to the mysterious horror narrative but also allowed for scenes
which may have been considered too graphic otherwise, for example the scene in
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari where Alan is attacked in his bed (fig 9). This technique
can also be used for emphasising something about a character, as famously done in
Nosferatu with Count Orlok (fig 10). fig 9: Alan s death scene in The Cabinet of Dr
The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In the United States, 57 percent of high school students participate in at least one
kind of extracurricular activity (Bureau UC). Through extracurricular activities, youth
have opportunities to develop very important life skills. Through participating in an
activity that requires time outside of the normal school hours, students can learn to
manage their time more efficiently. They must also develop rigorous study habits to
perform well in the classroom as well as in their chosen activity or activities. Through
team oriented activities and clubs, students must learn to work with others and attain
interpersonal skills, along with a solid work ethic. Such activities provide a different
type of environment than the classroom provides, and help them to become
comfortable in various situations. There are many proven benefits when teens
participate in extracurricular activities; such benefits include improved physical well
being, higher self esteem, academic excellence, important social skills, and
preparation to succeed not only school, but other settings as well. Extracurricular
activities are activities that are facilitated by adult supervisors and are conducted
outside of school hours. Examples of some such activities include sports teams,
debate teams, choir, orchestra, band, dance, cheer, and numerous clubs. Through
participation in extracurricular activities, youth can develop good health habits, even
if the activity or club does not include physical activity. In the world today, many kids
waste a great deal of time just looking at the screen of their smartphone, or sitting in
front of a television set. A lot of time may also be spent out with friends. When kids
are out participating in different after school activities, they are not only practicing
good habits and spending their time on positive developmental activities, but they can
discover activities that they really like and may not otherwise have tried. They can
find something that interests them and spend time practicing skills and discovering
their passions. Through extracurricular activities, students have opportunities to learn
things outside the classroom in a hands on experience. Being involved in these
activities enhances intrinsic motivation
Speech On Spring Cleaning
Winter is almost over, flowers are shooting out of the ground, everything is alive and
vibrates around you. Now is the right time for a spring cleaning. Whatever has
accumulated over the winter, the dust and ballast in your home, is swept out, so that
there is more space for the new.
But not only does your home benefit from such a cleaning operation. Your body will
also thank you for a thorough spring cleaning and you will wind up without any
spring fatigue or cold, but with more energy in the new season. Try one or more tips
for the invigorating spring cure!
1. Fasting
Traditionally, winter is concluded with a fasting session. Although the methods are
different, the goal is always the same: to eliminate the need for winter fat and slag, to
detoxify the body and strengthen the immune system. In ... Show more content on

Then there is no weight on the discs and there is no risk of injury.
4. Suitable Food
In order to give the body the opportunity to cleanse itself, you should do without
heavy food, alcohol and caffeine for your spring cleaning. On the other hand, all
green vegetables, especially cabbage, are most suitable. You can prepare them as
raw food, lightly steamed or as a soup or smoothie.
All spices are allowed, just be careful with salt. Bockshorn clover, chili, ginger or
even chopped, fresh wild garlic are particularly suitable for seasoning in the detox
cuisine.
The beetroot is also a real spring grenade. It supports colon cleansing, stimulates
metabolism and encourages cell renewal. The kidneys and the liver also benefit from
its many valuable nutrients.
Sorrel is rich in vitamins, neutralizes toxins, has diuretic and blood purifying
properties, and therefore, if possible, belongs in a spring detox diet. The leaves can
be used in tea, mixed into a smoothie or eaten in a salad.

Interview With Dr. Beyette
When the interview assignment was presented in class, it didn t take long for me
to decide which professor to interview. The professor I chose to interview was Dr.
Jill Beyette. Dr. Beyette is my current Biology II professor. So far, I have really
enjoyed her class and would even consider it one of my favorite classes this fall
semester. Dr. Beyette makes the class as simple as possible and makes herself very
approachable to her students. This is another reason I decided to interview her.
Through completing the interview, I learned more about Dr. Beyette in her academic
endeavours and her personal life as well. I started the interview with some basic
background questions. Some of these questions were asking if she was from
Cincinnatiand where she went to college. Dr. Beyette informed me that she is not

favorite course she had a hard time choosing because they both have their perks. She
said, The labs are fun and it s interesting to see what the students like and dislike
about the experiments. However, the lecture content is enjoyable because you re
always learning something new. I then proceeded to ask Dr. Beyette what the best
advice that she could give a student enrolled in her classes and other classes within
the University. Her answer was the best advice that I have received since starting
college. Dr Beyette said, Science and technology is fascinating, but the first two
years are hard because it s like learning the alphabet. It isn t fun in the beginning
because you don t know the material or the building blocks yet, but as you continue it
gets more interesting. She said that she always encourages students to stick with it if
they are passionate about the subject. I think that this advice is so important for any
student just starting in the field of science and
Analysis Of The Panic Of 1819 By Monticello
The hardest time at Monticello in the chapter 9 explains how the eruption affected
people in the New england and throughout the world. The chapter talked about the
year without summer, eighteen and frozen death, and the panic of 1819. The year
without summer was not like any other summer people could remember, snow fell
in New England and dark and not al all like the typical summer weather. One of the

Analysis Of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams was born in Columbus, Mississippi in 1911. A Streetcar
Named Desire was set at around his time and it describes the decline of the
Southern Belle named Blanche DuBois. The pathos found in Williams s drama
came from the playwright s own life. Alcoholism, depression, loneliness, desire, as
well as insanity all played a huge part throughout William s lifetime, thus,
incorporating these into his own life. Williams portrayed different social groups in
his plays, and how they clash (such as the role of men and women, the urban and
southern lifestyles) to criticize many aspects of society such as social criticism.

This indicates that both of the characters clash due to the differences in beliefs
about the American dream. Stanley believes that everyone should be equal and
should have equal opportunities to live a proper life. Blanche is trying hard to
separate her past and move on with a new, fresh life. However in the end, she was
unable to complete her dreams which could suggest that the American dream may
not exist since Blanche was unable to achieve it. Furthermore, love is the main
desire for Blanche and Mitch was represented as her main desire for love but, he
did not replace her previous love. However, this connotes that she was able to
achieve some aspects of her American dream or her desire by meeting Mitch when
she says Yes I want Mitch... very badly! Just think! If it happens! I can leave here
and not be anyone s problem... (Williams, 1959). Blanche is looking for the
emotional aspects of a relationship with Mitch rather than seeking the physical
aspects. This was portrayed when Mitch wanted to kiss her but she

Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to nitrate naphthalene with nitronium ion, which
is formed at low concentration from a reaction of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. The
percent yield from the experiment was 54.4% of the product, and the melting point of
the possible results were 59 В°C for 1 nitronaphthalene, and 78В°C for 2
nitronaphthalene.
Introduction:
Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene can be nitrated by the same
methods as benzene derivatives, including the well known mixed acid method that
utilizes a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. The electrophile is the nitronium
ion, NO2+, which is formed at low concentration by a reaction of ... Show more

Lady With A Dog Chekhov
In the short story, The Lady With A Dog , Chekhov sets the story in several
different locations, of which two are Yalta and Moscow. Chekhov begins the story in
Yalta, where Dmitri and Anna first meet during the Summer season, later
transitioning to Moscow, Dmitri s hometown, during the Winter. The use of these
two different settings, not only provides a change in the physical scenery, but also
reflects Anna and Dmitri s relationship. The town of Yalta, the initial setting, is a
seaside town on the coast of the Crimea, almost directly South from Moscow, and
had a reputation for casual affairs. It is here that Chekhov first has Dmitri note that,
a new person had appeared on the sea front ; Anna Sergeyevna. By beginning the
story with this observation, Chekhov is already suggesting to the reader, through his
uses of setting, that this pair will be involved in an affair. This is also deceptive
though, as the reader is induced into the line of thought that their relationship will be
casual when, in reality, it becomes apparent that it is the opposite which is the case....

This difference can represent the freedoms which are available to Dmitri and

times a day , whereas in Moscow, Dmitri is unable to communicate to anyone his
true feelings for fear of social persecution, But in his home it was impossible to
talk of his love, and he had no one outside . Chekhov uses the open nature of the sea
to represent how Anna and Dmitri are more able to express their feelings in Yalta,
and in Moscow, Chekhov uses the land borders represent the way Dmitri is unable to

Differences in Gillette s Old and New Advertisments Essays
In the novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley portrays a futuristic world to the
readers, enabling them to compare the present society to the future culture. Similarly,
by analyzing the ads of 1950 s and the 21st Century, we can compare the societies of
the past and the present. The Gillette Company was founded approximately a hundred
years ago. The company has been making ads through out the last century to
popularize their products. By exploring these Gillette ads, we can gather facts about
the market system and consumer demands during the time periods where the ads
emerged. The Gillette ads from the 1950 s to 2004 portray the declining
competitiveness and consumer growth of the expanding Gillette razor industry. After
the World War

Although few other competitive companies exist, through the years Gillette has
become so famous and rigid that it is a household name now. Given this lack of
competition, Gillette has the freewill to do almost anything. Their ads now give
more attention to the product system rather than focusing on the market. The
Gillette Mach3, a modern ad is very simple, and pictures the Gillette blade and
mentions its features (Mach 3 Shaving System). Although the ad is very simple in
nature, Mach3 is the most sold Gillette product. Thus, owing to low competition
and the comfort and uniqueness of the Gillette products, the demand is very high,
regardless of the plain features of the ads. Though the demands are high due to
lower competition, the Gillette product pricing remains a controversy. The 1950s
ads focused a lot on the cheapness of the blades and their ability to meet the
expense of everyman (Display Ad 71). J. P. Spang, Jr., the President of the Gillette
Company in the 1950 s had said that they had focused on producing products that
are available in quantity and quality, keeping in mind to sell it to the consumer at
the lowest price consistent with a fair profit (Spang 25). Meanwhile, modern ads do
not emphasize on the prices, as they know their products are expensive. Due to their
ongoing high demands, the company probably assumes that in the modern era, the
consumers do not get swayed away by higher prices as long as the product is being
upgraded. This

Like so many times before, after the games it was tradition that no matter the
outcome they would go hang out and grab a few drinks. Either if it was to

Holden The Embodiment
The topic I have chosen for this ISP is Holden s desire for innocence in J.D.
Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye. In this novel, the driving theme is that of
innocence. The title character is tormented by his understanding of the adult world
as corrupt and perverse, and his view of childhood as the purest form of being,
where life is good and real and worth living. For these reasons, his life goal is to
save young people from losing their innocence by being the Catcher in the Rye ; a

into adulthood while they are playing on a field of rye. He dreams of being the

Essay about Jack Kerouac’s On The Road
On The Road and the American Quest
Jack Kerouac s On The Road is the most uniquely American novel of its time. While
it has never fared well with academics, On The Road has come to symbolize for
many an entire generation of disaffected young Americans. One can focus on
numerous issues wh en addressing the novel, but the two primary reasons which
make the book uniquely American are its frantic Romantic search for the great
American hero (and ecstasy in general), and Kerouac s Spontaneous Prose method of
writing.
On The Road is an autobiographical first person book written in 1951 and based on

Dean and Kerouac s alter ego, Sal, represent one of the three main types of character
patterns seen in 50s literature: that of the Rebel. And while representative of the
rebellious James Dean like figures of literature, they are perhaps even more repres
entative of 50s youth culture in their endless searches. For what? The quest is left
open for debate. Tim Hunt suggests that Kerouac could be searching for several
things in On The Road: a father (or brother) figure, the chance to regain lost joy, or a
type of revelation (91). Hipkiss contends that Neal s
speeding dashes down the road are as much flights of panic,
the fear of never making it, the fear of losing all the life
he ever had, as they are quests for ecstasy, which is itself
an escape from fear and the frustrations of desire. (43)
Of course, elements of restlessness surface in earlier American novelists such as
Hemingway and Fitzgerald,
but Kerouac s search for a type of identity in an era of increasing conformity sparked
rebelliousness On The
Road style and encouraged many to, as Tim Leary would put it several years later,

As Kerouac s searches for the great American hero and ecstasy in general made On
The Road uniquely American,
so too does his style of writing. Kerouac s search for ecstasy naturally led to the

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R....
The first habit listed by Stephen R. Covey, is to be proactive. He breaks down the
word to create a simple reference, response able means understanding that you are
accountable for your life. Your behaviors are determined by you. Viktor Frankl
was placed into a Jewish concentration camp during WWII; he endured great
misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the experience he
envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in
an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response,
man was free to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing
that he was in control of his own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental
state. By having control of himself he did not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The
referenced statement would be considered false; Covey believes that people are
responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is merely
what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to
dismiss their own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially
becomes part of the problem, instead of the solution. This statement would also fall
into the circle of concern as it refers to the actions of how others are impacting your
life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to let people affect their life.
Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different. The meaning
of leadership is the

However, there is a large market for it and reputable brands like DPSGs with their

users of energy beverages are males between the ages of 12 and 34, DPSG should
market their product toward this group. 4. What product should be introduced and
how should it be positioned/differentiated? § DPSG s new energy beverage or
a different variety of their beverage could be geared towards females in an attempt
to capture drinkers of Coca Cola s Tab. In addition, males ages 35 to 54 consume
energy beverages at a rate slightly lower than males under age 24. An energy
beverage with similar stimulant effects as most energy drinks but has other health
benefits (i.e. Vitamin Water, Odwalla, Naked) could also attract the abovementioned
consumers. 5. Through what channel(s) should a new energy beverage brand be

Themes In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
In The Sun Also Rises, friendships are tested, romance is running high, and people
reveal their true colors. There is a lot of drama that seems to unfold throughout the
novel. The organization of the novel makes the drama seem more drastic. The Sun
Also Rises doesn t seem to have an effect on today s generation, or how we view
society. This novel had many bumps and curves as it goes, but it was a pleasure to
read.
For me, this novel was very hard to follow. I couldn t seem to make sense of the
way that things were worded or what even was happening at some points. The way
that Hemingway described certain things just lost me and I failed to understand what
he was meaning. Other times however, I understood perfectly what was ... Show more

For instance, if Brett would have gone to Spain by herself before the others arrived,
she might have fallen in love with someone else. The Sun Also Rises was organized to
what seemed to be the best way possible.
The Sun Also Rises has very few different aspects to it that can affect the way
society is today. In some circumstances, such as when Brett let the young
bullfighter go because she didn t want to hurt his career, it taught readers that
sometimes you have to think about others before you think about yourself. Also,
when Jack helped Brett find her love, even though he was in love with her, it
showed maturity that some people lack today. However, there are other things such
as the bullfighting that are not relatable for people that live in the United States.
There s not many things that today s generation can relate to in this novel. Things
are very different now, the way people act, talk, the things they do, etc. There is a
big difference in the 1920 s and the year 2017, things have changed. It s very
challenging for me to find things that relate to today s world.
There were different symbols and motifs used in The Sun Also Rises. A couple
motifs might be excessive drinking and false friendships. These motifs are relatable
even in today s world. There was a lot of sneaking around behind one another s backs
and doing things that maybe the others wouldn t agree with. Also, there is a

Dear Journal, Today I had quite a bit of tasks to do for Mr. Edes. First I had to sell
three advertisements but, I sold one to a loyalists niece so Mr. Edes said he couldn

what the red coat said about Mr. Edes kind of frustrated me because I know that
Mr. Edes is an honest man that is very trustworthy. The shipment Mr. Edes told me
to pick up was a bit to heavy so Royce helped me carry it in return for a favor. I don t
know what the favor is yet but I m sure ill find out soon. Dear Journal, Today I

Historical Inaccuracies In Braveheart
In the film Braveheart , where a war breaks out between Scotland, which was under
English rule, and England is portrayed in a somewhat historical manner, in the time
periods of the late Middle Ages and the very Early Renaissance. The film by Mel
Gibson, may not be exactly a complete historical portrayal of what happened between
1297 and 1305 but it is pretty close. Undoubtable the events captured in this film have
helped shape what Scotlandis today, this is even more evident with the recent vote for
the separation of Scotland with England. It s also unarguable that the film gives a very
entertaining and exciting plot, through all scenes during this whole film. The film
depicts how an ordinary man at the end of the 13th Century, William Wallace

He wins a large amount of battles with the help of his army. Nonetheless, Wallace is
chased down and apprehended, dragged to London, tried for treason, and executed by
hanging, drawing and quartering, which at the time was the new technique for people
found guilty of treason.
Here are some of Hollywood s historical inaccuracies that go on in this film. At the
peak of the Middle Ages from around 1150 to 1350 became the time period where
medieval civilization took its more or less, compete form. William Wallace and
King Edward I were still in a largely underdeveloped part of the world. The Middle
Ages is often viewed as a period of darkness, superstition and ignorance. The poor
lived in poverty, their lives at the mercy to the whims of the nobles who ruled over
that land. The movie definitely showed this type of lifestyle and gave the viewer a
feeling of what life was like back then. This was also an era when the average man
was starting to demand his rights and defend them with arms. William Wallace is a
significant historical figure not because he was a high born commander of knights,
but because he was an ordinary Scotsman, a free farmer who rallied thousands of
other ordinary Scotsmen to fight for their country. (Film
Manifest Destiny Essay
When we think about power, what comes to mind is usually related to money and
authority. We tend to forget that the most powerful tool we have lies within our
thoughts and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. After the thirteen
colonies separated from Britainvia the Declaration of Independence, a sense of pride
and nationalism began developing in the minds of many Americans. This became
apparent when the concept of manifest destiny began circling the country in the
1840s. This paper will discuss what the concept of manifest destiny is and how it
influenced westward expansion.
Manifest destiny is the belief that God had destined the land from the Atlantic to
the Pacific ocean to be part of the states. In 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was made
and Lewis and Clark were sent to take notes and bring back information about the
land. A side effect of their journey was the curiosity that bloomed within the people.
Similarly, Richard Henry Dana published Two Years Before the Mast in 1840, a
book that described the coast of California and further enhanced people s dreams.
Another thing that brought about manifest destiny was the intense immigration of
Europeans from 1824 1848, which meant more people would need to move west.
However, there were some obstacles to acquiring the land between the Atlantic and
Pacific, as some land was occupied by Britain and Mexico such as the Oregon
territory and Texas.
Although Oregon was partly occupied by Britain, many people were
Cast Away
In the movie Cast Away, Chuck Noland says that to turn ones back on time is to
commit a sin. In this movie, Chuck s life revolves around time, and his ability to
make more money is directly affected by time. This fact, however, is exactly what is
related as a bad thing. Throughout the movie, capitalistic ventures, which require an
extreme investment of time, are characterized as evil. The message sent in Cast Away
is that we live in a corrupt and morally bankrupt society which is only concerned
with the bottom line, but if we all get back to the basics and search our souls for
what really matters in life, we may have a chance of turning out okay. Chuck Noland
represents the United States in this movie, especially in the former... Show more

Since Chuck Noland represents evil in the form of a taskmaster of time, his
punishment is to be sent away to solitude where time is not a factor. Before he
arrives at his lonely island, Chuck is not good at dealing with people or emotions.
He only gives his friend a phone number when his friend s wife is dying of cancer.
He offers no emotional support, and even tries to stay out of the conversation
when the flight attendant is talking to his friend about it. Some other examples of
this are the Christmas presents he buys Kelly (Cast Away). Even though they are
gag gifts, it is still insensitive, and he did not think about how it would make her
feel. He suffers a Satan esque fall to this island where suddenly all the time and
money in the world no longer matter. It is only after being stripped of these
elements that Chuck is able to sort out what really matters in life. The fact that he
does not open the package with the wings on it symbolizes that he is beginning to
become more attuned to the elements of life that truly matter (Cast Away). He could
have easily opened it, but he realized that respecting someone s privacy, even on that
remote island, was vitally important. He also realized that having a companion was
important in survival, and this is why he created Wilson (Cast Away). Wilson taught
him that he was taking his friendships and relationships in his earlier life for
Hart On Internal And External Aspects Of Rules
Hart on Internal and External Aspects of Rules Hart introduces a distinction
between external and internal aspects of rule , the latter of which see rules as akin
to reasons. By making the idea of a rule central to the concept of law, Hart gives a
fresh start to jurisprudential theory, which was then dominated by the predictive
theory of obligation, namely that of Command Theory and radical legal realism.
This paper will first make an account of the internal and external aspects of rules
according to Hart , then analyze how the external aspect (1) neglects the possibility
of seeing rules as reasons to conduct and thus (2) fails to account for the maintenance
of a legal system, and in the last part examine Hart s accusation of the... Show more

The tourist observes that a girl here will have their lips pierced by their mother
before marriage and insert lip plates into their lips. From an extreme external point
of view, the tourist sees the regularity of piercing lips for Mursi girls before they
get married, but she does not know the reason for such a conduct, let alone
accepting such a rule of piercing lips . While there is another anthropologist who
is doing a field study here, she finds out that the reason for such a weird conduct is
that Mursi people find lip plates as a symbol of female strength and self esteem .
That is from a less extreme point of view in that the anthropologist sees such a rule
as a reason to act, but not a reason for herself. On the other hand, Mursi people see
the reason behind such a rule and take it as their guide to conduct, which is from
an internal point of view. That is to say, an external point of view is based on
observable regularities of conduct, predictions, probabilities, and signs , or, as of a
less extreme kind, seeing the reasons behind a set of rules without accepting them
as a guide to conduct, while an internal point of view involves the reasons behind a
set of rules and the acceptance of them. After a brief account of the distinction
between an external and internal points of view , I will now discuss how the
external aspect (1) neglects the possibility of seeing rules as reasons to conduct and

Contractual Aspects Of A Recording Contract
This essay seeks to investigate contractual aspects of a recording contract offered to
solo artist and songwriter George Ezra (The Artist), particularly paying attention to
several clauses which are considered most important to ring fence and to guard
against in the interest of the artist.
George Ezra is a young, hyped solo singer songwriter from Hertford with whom I
signed a management agreement in 2012. After two years of promoting and
marketing the George Ezra Brand we have now decided to seek an exclusive
recording contract with a major record label to monetise the brand and to expand on a
wider audience and demographic.
The next section provides a general discussion about recording agreements written in
favour of the record label.
With the negotiations between Sony Music Entertainment and George Ezra s
management team underway we begin to discuss general information related to
contracts. In short, the manager s duty is to ensure that the recording contract is in
the best interest of his/her artist. Generally speaking, you often hear that major
labels rip off artists with their recording contracts being written in favour of the
label as oppose to the artist, which consequently occurs as a result of the labels
lawyers drafting the initial contract in their favour to protect their own interest as a
result artists are also advised to employ a lawyer to overlook the contract, and for
their legal representative to amend the contract accordingly to suit the needs of
My Passion For Organic Chemistry
When I was six, I distinctly remember that my grandfather was diagnosed having an
early stage colorectal cancer. He went through a major surgery and recovered with
prescription drugs and herbal therapies, which appeared to have a positive additive
effect. I was inspired by the ability of the pharmaceuticals in relieving my grandfather
s pain, giving him a future, and allowing me to share more memories with him. My
passion in studying organic chemistryarises from me realizing there is immense
potential embedded in the chemistry principles to develop tools for the treatment of
human diseases. Through my undergraduate studies and research, I became
determined in pursuing a graduate carrier, in which I aim to grow into an expert in
chemical reactivities and an independent scientist who can invent chemistry and
contribute to the development of pharmaceuticals.
In my sophomore year, I was intensely drawn to organic chemistry in Professor
Thomas Maimone s class. The elegant and logical framework of chemical
transformations absorbed me. I learned the fundamental roles of organic chemistry in
drug discovery and became increasingly interested in solving challenging synthetic
problems. I enjoyed the thrill of composing creative pathways to generate complexity,
but also found that my knowledge of organic transformations made me limited.
Therefore, I fostered my chemical intuition on how and why reactions occur through
select graduate level organic chemistry coursework.

Comanche Indians Essay
COMANCHE INDIANS
The Comanches, exceptional horsemen who dominated the Southern Plains, played a
prominent role in Texas frontier history throughout much of the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. Anthropological evidence indicates that they were originally a
mountain tribe, a branch of the Northern Shoshones, who roamed the Great Basin
region of the western United States as crudely equipped hunters and gatherers. Both
cultural and linguistic similarities confirm the Comanches Shoshone origins. The
Comanche language is derived from the Uto Aztecan linguistic family and is virtually
identical to the language of the Northern Shoshones. Sometime during the late
seventeenth century, the Comanches acquired horses, and that acquisition ... Show

As many as thirteen different, Comanche bands were identified during the historic
period, and most probably there were others that were never identified. However, five
major bands played important roles in recorded Comanche history.
The southernmost band was called Penateka, or quot;Honey Eaters. quot; Their
range extended from the Edwards Plateau to the headwaters of the Central Texas
rivers. Because of their location, the Penatekas played the most prominent role in
Texas history. North Of Penateka, country was the habitat of the band called
Nokoni, or quot; Those Who Turn Back. quot; The Nokonis roamed from the Cross
Timbers region of North Texas to the mountains of New Mexico. Two smaller bands,
the Tanima ( quot;Liver Eaters quot;) and the Tenawa ( quot; Those Who Stay
Downstream quot;), shared the range of the Nokonis. These three divisions are
sometimes referred to collectively as Middle Comanches. Still farther north was the
range of the Kotsotekas, or quot;Buffalo Eaters. quot; Their territory covered what is
now western Oklahoma, where they often camped along the Canadian River. The
northernmost band was known as the Yamparikas, or quot;Yap Eaters, quot; a name
derived from that of an edible root. Their range extended north to the Arkansas River.

Dis Engagement Theory And The Active Theory
Within this essay I am going to talk about the two theories which are the dis
engagement theory and the active theory these two theories are for and against each
other and also argue which theory is best suited for adult s life and development.
Socio Dis engagement theory shows that the ageing claims that elderly people are
disengaged from society and social role models due to their inevitability of death.
However disengagement theorists have said that that elderly people begin to
disengage themselves from previous social groups realising that they will die in the
near future. Moreover the people from the dis engagement theories were one of the
first theorists of ageing that were developed and acknowledged by social scientist.
These theories were developed and processed by Elaine Cumming and Warren Earl
Henry in 1961. Therefore the dis engagement theory of ageing have stated that you
cannot stop age it is inevitable (Robert Havighurst)
In addition the views of disengagement theory views their ageing as a mutual
withdrawal that the process between ageing person and the social system of which
they belong such as gradual withdrawal from society. However the theory viewed
that this theory is positive and right way for elderly because it is an age increased
reflection that helps self decreased emotional investment in people and events. They
also believe that adults isolate themselves from society and think that it will not affect
them through their li9fe stages. They also
How Does Snapshots Affect Society
Fake. False. Fraud. They all come to mind with photo shopped images. They have
been altered in some way, making the picture different from the reality of it. People
do not believe they would like such images containing it, or that they could not spot
such contamination. Nonetheless, it is harder to spot it than one might think, mainly
because it is everywhere in photography. It fools people time and time again into
believing what they see. Manipulating photos constantly has ultimately degraded
society s perception of the world and overall mindset, thereby costing the world time,
money, confidence, and health. To start, photo shop in real estate pictures can disrupt
the buying experience and cause an unneeded waste of energy. In snapshots... Show

As stated before, due to the loss of confidence in society s younger generation,
people try and change themselves to various extents to fit the mold photo
shopping has created for them. What was omitted from the previous paragraph was
the horrendous extent of it. Unfortunately, society s expectations has led people to
shun and even bully those who do not fit into the mold. This causes eating
disorders and depression. Indeed, it is no wonder that this might become a
reflection of the events and spirit of our times for the future (Grundberg 35). How
far will people go to achieve the expectations photo shopping has raised? Plastic
surgery, dieting, self harm, perhaps even going so far as suicide; all of them are
caused by how these altered pictures make people view the world and the people in
it. Such false advertising should be condemned. It is like false advertising for
medication. Instead of overdosing on pills, society s overdosing on appearances.
Having been photo shopped, images of models drastically change the population s
views on what beauty entails, resulting in health problems beyond measure, some
even going as far as to result in
Overspray Research Paper
An ideal facility for painting is a clean, well lit, temperature controlled paint shop,
however if one is not available and you must create your own painting location,
you do not want to paint: Outside in fog or high humidity Outside in direct
sunlight In the wind In a dusty place In a rented or borrowed spray booth where
you can t take your time Also, keep in mind that certain locations require the user of
solvent based paints to filter overspray and have a method of collecting waste. The
four basic methods of applying paints are: (1)Airless spraying (2)Electrostatic
spraying (3)Conventional pressure fed gun (4)High Volume, Low Pressure (HVLP)
systems Airless sprayers force paint through a small opening at high pressures....

The pressures are so high that the paint is atomized and can be applied to the
surface. The major disadvantage of this system is that the paint particles are
traveling so fast when they reach the surface, many will actually bounce off and
gather in the air. This is called overspray. HVLP systems were designed to address
overspray. A HVLP system is, in essence, a modified pressure fed system. A HVLP
spray gun gathers the air inside the gun and send it downstream with as little
pressure drop as possible. Two types of HVLP spray systems are available: a
conversion spray gun and a turbine system. A conversion spray gun uses high
pressure air, but drops the pressure before it goes into the gun. This type of system
requires a high capacity air compressor with moisture traps. A turbine system simply
supplies a large amount of air (via turbine) to the gun; high pressure is not necessary.
The turbine is typically powered by a high speed electric motor. The heat from the
turbine eliminates up to 95% of the moisture in the air. This type of system is sold
with a turbine, hose, and spray gun. Most of the cost is from the spray gun and not
the turbine due to the machining requirements of the
Black Mirror By Michel Foucault s View On Modern Society
he 15 Million Merits episode of Black Mirror elucidates the view on discipline of
cited humanities scholar Michel Foucault in its futuristic take on modern day
society. Foucault claims that through the means of surveillance and observation, a
natural order will take over sophisticated societies without much policing power.
By establishing common behaviors in different settings, a high level of discipline
can be achieved without effort. In many different commonly used places like
schools, factories, hospitals and prisons, a similar examination takes place among
workers, patients and prisoners, creating a similar and normal accepted behavior.
In Black Mirror, the society runs smoothly without the presence of a central figure
of authority, and this directly relates to the Foucauldian view on society. The use of
advanced technology all around them creates the feeling of being watched, so with
that panoptic illusion in the forefront, the behavior of the citizens follows all rules
and codes of conduct. The structure and everyday feel of the environment is seen in
the opening scene where Bing is first introduced. The room he wakes up in is quite
small and box like. It has a bed and a bathroom, and electronic screens take the places
of all the walls surrounding him. The bed sheets and his entire outfit is a gray
color, and after his wakeup call recedes from the screens, the room is plunged into
an all around darkness, which adds to Bing s outwardly somber mood. He proceeds

Social, Physical, And Emotional Trauma That People
Suffer...
To study the financial, physical, and emotional trauma that people suffer because of
illegal activities is called victimology. Victimologists, also known as social
scientists, investigate the role the victims play in a crime. To do their work these
scientists have to be unbiased in face of conditions where it can be hard to separate
personal emotions from the crimecommitted. Social scientists are often faced with a
plethora of circumstances that could compromise their ability to be truly objective.
The factors that could potentially cloud a social scientists judgment include their
own personal experience when it comes to crime, their lack of personal experience
when it comes to the crime, and the social environment they live in. A social
scientist personal experience with a crime can, in my opinion, be the hardest factor
in which to overcome and stay objective. Their personal involvement with the crime
can cause them to lose sight of their objectivity and have their own prejudices show
in their work. When a victimologist suffers through a crime such as a robbery or
rape their views and other aspects of their personality can be altered due to the
traumatic situation they were a part of. Social scientists that suffer at the hands of
illegal affairs can obtain tunnel vision and only focus on the victims point of view,
because they know have a sentimental tie towards the victim as the scientist and
victim went through the same event. Having personal experience with crimes
Of Elizabeth Minchin s The Expression Of Sarcasm In...
Elizabeth Minchin s The Expression of Sarcasm in the Odyssey , published in
2010, analyzes Homer s usage of sarcasm in the Odyssey and explains its
significance. Minchin s critical analysis peaked my interest specifically because it
studies not only the expression, but the reception of sarcasm as seen in the Odyssey.
Minchin suggests that in lines 397 399 of Book XVII, when Telemachustells Antinous
...Antinous, as a father of his son you take good care/ of me, when you tell our
stranger guest to get out of the palace/ with a strict word , that Telemachus apparent
politeness is superficial. Telemachus sarcastic comments aimed towards Antinous can
be interpreted in two ways. Not only was the comment intended to be a bitter jab at
Antinous, but as Minchin mentions, Telemachus bitterness ...works as an affiliative
strategy between Telemachus and his actual father (Minchin 545). I agree with
Minchin s findings, at this point in the poem, Telemachus is the only one that knows
that the beggar is Odysseus. Telemachus sarcastic tone instills a sense of familiarity
between him and his father, as they have not seen each other in years, thus
strengthening the bond between them. Minchin s claim is plausible, given that the
intention of lines 397 399 were to convey attitude in the form of a taunt towards
Antinous as a form of humility. Telemachus not only wanted to subtly berate
Antinous, but do it in a way that would also serve as a reintroduction of his father
son relationship with Odysseus. Book XX is when Ktesippos, a suitor is
introduced. With Odysseus still disguised as a beggar, Ktesippos demonstrates
false means of hospitality towards him. It isn t until Ktesippos offers the beggar a
guest gift of an ox hoof, in which he proceeds to throw it at Odysseus s head and
misses. Odysseus reacts with a sardonic smile which infuriates Ktesippos even
more than him failing to hit his head with the ox hoof. It is at this point when
Minchin states that the bitter ox hoof incident could have prompted Odysseus to
abandon his beggar disguise and kill all the suitors, however, I disagree. If
Odysseus would have abandoned his disguise at this point in the poem simply
because of Ktesippos sarcastic display of

It is the largest joint in the body and is known as a ginglymus, or hinge, joint involving the articulation of the femur and the tibia. A hinge joint is a joint between two or more articulating bones, moving in only one plane. The movements that occur at the knee are flexion and extension. The knee joint is a modified hinge joint, therefore as well as allowing the movements of flexion and extension; the movements of internal rotation and external rotation are possible. Ligaments are connective tissues with the function of joining articulating bones at joints, in this case, the femur and tibia. Fibroblasts are the cells that make up the ligaments, which are made up of between 70% and 80% collagen. The high level of collagen gives the ligament tissue high tensile strength. The flexibility of the ligaments comes from the elastin fibers that are in the extracellular matrix, which counters the solid nature of the bone (Prater A.M., 2010). The ligaments of the knee assist in controlling the movements that occur at the joint. The collateral ligaments are positioned on each side of the joint (the medial collateral ligament on the medial side and the lateral collateral ligament on the lateral side). The cruciate ligaments are found deep within the knee joint. The anterior cruciate ligament attaches to the medial and anterior aspect of the tibial plateau and on the lateral femoral condyle. The posterior cruciate ligament attaches to the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau and the medial femoral condyle (Johns Hopkins Sports Medicine). The names of the cruciate ligaments arise from their nature of crossing over each other between each of their attachments and from the position of their tibial attachments. (Palastanga Soames, 2012). The interaction of the ACL and PCL at varying degrees of flexion accounts for some of the dynamic stability of the knee joint (Chhabra et al. C.

The Seven Habits The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey became a blueprint for personal development when it was published in 1989 First of all, Covey defined habits as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire: Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and why. Skill is the how to do. And finally, desire is the motivation, the want to do. Now, a paradigm is a framework containing the basic assumptions, ways of thinking, and methodology that are commonly accepted by members of a scientific community. The author divided the habits into two categories: dependence and interdependence. Dependence is the paradigm under which we are born, relying upon others to take care of us. On the other side, independence is the paradigm under which we make our decisions and take care of ourselves. Finally, interdependence is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagine there are 2 people and a tree with 5 apples on it. They are both too short to reach the apples but if one of them sits on the other s shoulders he can reach all 5 of the apples. This is called synergizing: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You can t achieve this with everyone but you can always look for opportunities to create a synergy. With every synergistic opportunity you create, you can gather many more apples than when you are doing it by yourself. Now to define synergy, it means two heads are better than one. Synergize is the habit of creative cooperation. It is teamwork, open mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems. Because when people begin to interact together genuinely, and they re open to each other s influence, they begin to gain new insight. The capability of inventing new approaches is increased exponentially because of differences. And valuing differences is what really drives synergy, such as the mental, emotional, and psychological differences. These differences should be seen as strengths, not weaknesses. • 10. Sigmund Freud and His Oedipal Complex In general, Sigmund Freud and his oedipal complex are among the most often discussed critical theories and argumentative issues found in modern day psychology. Freud s theory has brought a lot of controversies and has stirred up crazy questions among our close minded and immature society. I mean, why on earth would a child s desire be to sleep with their mother and kill their father? To us this seems like a rather far fetched idea and parents can t try to accept the fact that perhaps their child is out to get them. Back in the day, this idea was totally believable and at one point, universal. Freud believed the Oedipusmyth bears witness to the prevalence of this Oedipal Complex, both in that it was a popular topic for Greek tragedy and the fact that modern audiences still relate to the story of Oedipus (who by the way, murdered his father Laius and then married his mother Jocasta). If it happened to the Greeks, why couldn t it happen to us? The answer is simple. In 2014, we do not believe that we are the play things of gods sitting on clouds. Its common sense. First of all gods can t possible sit on clouds without falling. Secondly, extra terrestrial beings aren t the ones responsible for being the fortune cookies in our lives. Sure, there is the possibility of gods but is it really believable that the fate they have for us will always remain unchangeable? Probably not. And that is the exact notion that led Freud to his mistakes and our criticisms toward him. He viewed

Freddy Eynsford Hill is raised as a gentleman and, thus, is a fool who has trouble hailing a cab, let alone finding any suitable occupation for himself. Henry Higgins is well educated but ill mannered, alienating him from society due to his inconsideration for others. Alfred Doolittle appears to lack any sort of morals and seems equally free from fear and conscience. The only male figure who stands out is Colonel Pickering, who seems talented, respectful, and compassionate compared to his competition. Even so, Pickering is only superficially a gentleman; his concern, respect, and treatment for others are overshadowed by his lack of growth and the play s criticism of gentlemanly behavior as a whole. Pickering s true concern and compassion for others, particularly Eliza, distinguish him from the other male characters. His first words to Eliza are, won t you sit down? (Shaw II, 39). This courtesy, which Higgins does not extend, rightfully suggests that he thought and felt about her as if [she] were something better than a scullerymaid, much to Higgins chagrin (V, 122). At the same time, Pickering is not infatuated unlike Freddy (V, 130), who laughably spends most of his nights on Wimpole Street because it s the only place where [he s] happy (IV, 106). Throughout this film, there are many links to The Cabinet of Dr Caligari , possibly most notably, the difference between the dark Gothic castle which Edward is found in, and the almost sickly setting where the residents of the neighbourhood live, based upon Burton s childhood in Burbank, California. The contrast between these two worlds is very similar to the world which Francis recalls in his flashback and that of the asylum in The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (fig 8). Another piece of Expressionism which features in Burton s work, often alongside his use of contrast, is his use of shadows. Expressionist film included shadows as a way of showing what was happening but without having the actual character on screen, this added to the mysterious horror narrative but also allowed for scenes which may have been considered too graphic otherwise, for example the scene in The Cabinet of Dr Caligari where Alan is attacked in his bed (fig 9). This technique can also be used for emphasising something about a character, as famously done in Nosferatu with Count Orlok (fig 10). fig 9: Alan s death scene in The Cabinet of Dr

Through extracurricular activities, youth have opportunities to develop very important life skills. Through participating in an activity that requires time outside of the normal school hours, students can learn to manage their time more efficiently. They must also develop rigorous study habits to perform well in the classroom as well as in their chosen activity or activities. Through team oriented activities and clubs, students must learn to work with others and attain interpersonal skills, along with a solid work ethic. Such activities provide a different type of environment than the classroom provides, and help them to become comfortable in various situations. There are many proven benefits when teens participate in extracurricular activities; such benefits include improved physical well being, higher self esteem, academic excellence, important social skills, and preparation to succeed not only school, but other settings as well. Extracurricular activities are activities that are facilitated by adult supervisors and are conducted outside of school hours. • 32. Lady With A Dog Chekhov In the short story, The Lady With A Dog , Chekhov sets the story in several different locations, of which two are Yalta and Moscow. Chekhov begins the story in Yalta, where Dmitri and Anna first meet during the Summer season, later transitioning to Moscow, Dmitri s hometown, during the Winter. The use of these two different settings, not only provides a change in the physical scenery, but also reflects Anna and Dmitri s relationship. The town of Yalta, the initial setting, is a seaside town on the coast of the Crimea, almost directly South from Moscow, and had a reputation for casual affairs. It is here that Chekhov first has Dmitri note that, a new person had appeared on the sea front ; Anna Sergeyevna. By beginning the story with this observation, Chekhov is already suggesting to the reader, through his uses of setting, that this pair will be involved in an affair. This is also deceptive though, as the reader is induced into the line of thought that their relationship will be casual when, in reality, it becomes apparent that it is the opposite which is the case.... Differences in Gillette s Old and New Advertisments Essays In the novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley portrays a futuristic world to the readers, enabling them to compare the present society to the future culture. Similarly, by analyzing the ads of 1950 s and the 21st Century, we can compare the societies of the past and the present. The Gillette Company was founded approximately a hundred years ago. The company has been making ads through out the last century to popularize their products. By exploring these Gillette ads, we can gather facts about the market system and consumer demands during the time periods where the ads emerged. The Gillette ads from the 1950 s to 2004 portray the declining competitiveness and consumer growth of the expanding Gillette razor industry. After the World War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although few other competitive companies exist, through the years Gillette has become so famous and rigid that it is a household name now. Given this lack of competition, Gillette has the freewill to do almost anything. Their ads now give more attention to the product system rather than focusing on the market. The Gillette Mach3, a modern ad is very simple, and pictures the Gillette blade and mentions its features (Mach 3 Shaving System). Although the ad is very simple in nature, Mach3 is the most sold Gillette product. Thus, owing to low competition and the comfort and uniqueness of the Gillette products, the demand is very high, regardless of the plain features of the ads. Though the demands are high due to lower competition, the Gillette product pricing remains a controversy. The 1950s ads focused a lot on the cheapness of the blades and their ability to meet the expense of everyman (Display Ad 71). J. P. Spang, Jr., the President of the Gillette Company in the 1950 s had said that they had focused on producing products that are available in quantity and quality, keeping in mind to sell it to the consumer at the lowest price consistent with a fair profit (Spang 25). Meanwhile, modern ads do not emphasize on the prices, as they know their products are expensive. Due to their ongoing high demands, the company probably assumes that in the modern era, the consumers do not get swayed away by higher prices as long as the product is being upgraded. This

While it has never fared well with academics, On The Road has come to symbolize for many an entire generation of disaffected young Americans. One can focus on numerous issues wh en addressing the novel, but the two primary reasons which make the book uniquely American are its frantic Romantic search for the great American hero (and ecstasy in general), and Kerouac s Spontaneous Prose method of writing. The quest is left open for debate. Tim Hunt suggests that Kerouac could be searching for several things in On The Road: a father (or brother) figure, the chance to regain lost joy, or a type of revelation (91). Hipkiss contends that Neal s speeding dashes down the road are as much flights of panic, the fear of never making it, the fear of losing all the life he ever had, as they are quests for ecstasy, which is itself an escape from fear and the frustrations of desire. Viktor Frankl was placed into a Jewish concentration camp during WWII; he endured great misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the experience he envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response, man was free to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing that he was in control of his own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental state. By having control of himself he did not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The referenced statement would be considered false; Covey believes that people are responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is merely what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to dismiss their own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially becomes part of the problem, instead of the solution. This statement would also fall into the circle of concern as it refers to the actions of how others are impacting your life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to let people affect their life. Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different. The meaning of leadership is the

We tend to forget that the most powerful tool we have lies within our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. After the thirteen colonies separated from Britainvia the Declaration of Independence, a sense of pride and nationalism began developing in the minds of many Americans. This became apparent when the concept of manifest destiny began circling the country in the 1840s. This paper will discuss what the concept of manifest destiny is and how it influenced westward expansion. Manifest destiny is the belief that God had destined the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean to be part of the states. In 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was made and Lewis and Clark were sent to take notes and bring back information about the land. A side effect of their journey was the curiosity that bloomed within the people. Similarly, Richard Henry Dana published Two Years Before the Mast in 1840, a book that described the coast of California and further enhanced people s dreams. Another thing that brought about manifest destiny was the intense immigration of Europeans from 1824 1848, which meant more people would need to move west. However, there were some obstacles to acquiring the land between the Atlantic and Pacific, as some land was occupied by Britain and Mexico such as the Oregon territory and Texas. Although Oregon was partly occupied by Britain, many people were

The fifth major band, known as Quahadis ( Antelopes ), roamed the high plains of the Llano Estacado. FOODS
  • 52. Dis Engagement Theory And The Active Theory Within this essay I am going to talk about the two theories which are the dis engagement theory and the active theory these two theories are for and against each other and also argue which theory is best suited for adult s life and development. Socio Dis engagement theory shows that the ageing claims that elderly people are disengaged from society and social role models due to their inevitability of death. However disengagement theorists have said that that elderly people begin to disengage themselves from previous social groups realising that they will die in the near future. Moreover the people from the dis engagement theories were one of the first theorists of ageing that were developed and acknowledged by social scientist. These theories were developed and processed by Elaine Cumming and Warren Earl Henry in 1961. Therefore the dis engagement theory of ageing have stated that you cannot stop age it is inevitable (Robert Havighurst) In addition the views of disengagement theory views their ageing as a mutual withdrawal that the process between ageing person and the social system of which they belong such as gradual withdrawal from society. However the theory viewed that this theory is positive and right way for elderly because it is an age increased reflection that helps self decreased emotional investment in people and events. They also believe that adults isolate themselves from society and think that it will not affect them through their li9fe stages. They also
  • 53. How Does Snapshots Affect Society Fake. False. Fraud. They all come to mind with photo shopped images. They have been altered in some way, making the picture different from the reality of it. People do not believe they would like such images containing it, or that they could not spot such contamination. Nonetheless, it is harder to spot it than one might think, mainly because it is everywhere in photography. It fools people time and time again into believing what they see. Manipulating photos constantly has ultimately degraded society s perception of the world and overall mindset, thereby costing the world time, money, confidence, and health. To start, photo shop in real estate pictures can disrupt the buying experience and cause an unneeded waste of energy. In snapshots... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated before, due to the loss of confidence in society s younger generation, people try and change themselves to various extents to fit the mold photo shopping has created for them. What was omitted from the previous paragraph was the horrendous extent of it. Unfortunately, society s expectations has led people to shun and even bully those who do not fit into the mold. This causes eating disorders and depression. Indeed, it is no wonder that this might become a reflection of the events and spirit of our times for the future (Grundberg 35). How far will people go to achieve the expectations photo shopping has raised? Plastic surgery, dieting, self harm, perhaps even going so far as suicide; all of them are caused by how these altered pictures make people view the world and the people in it. Such false advertising should be condemned. It is like false advertising for medication. Instead of overdosing on pills, society s overdosing on appearances. Having been photo shopped, images of models drastically change the population s views on what beauty entails, resulting in health problems beyond measure, some even going as far as to result in
  • 54. Overspray Research Paper An ideal facility for painting is a clean, well lit, temperature controlled paint shop, however if one is not available and you must create your own painting location, you do not want to paint: Outside in fog or high humidity Outside in direct sunlight In the wind In a dusty place In a rented or borrowed spray booth where you can t take your time Also, keep in mind that certain locations require the user of solvent based paints to filter overspray and have a method of collecting waste. The four basic methods of applying paints are: (1)Airless spraying (2)Electrostatic spraying (3)Conventional pressure fed gun (4)High Volume, Low Pressure (HVLP) systems Airless sprayers force paint through a small opening at high pressures.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pressures are so high that the paint is atomized and can be applied to the surface. The major disadvantage of this system is that the paint particles are traveling so fast when they reach the surface, many will actually bounce off and gather in the air. This is called overspray. HVLP systems were designed to address overspray. A HVLP system is, in essence, a modified pressure fed system. A HVLP spray gun gathers the air inside the gun and send it downstream with as little pressure drop as possible. Two types of HVLP spray systems are available: a conversion spray gun and a turbine system. A conversion spray gun uses high pressure air, but drops the pressure before it goes into the gun. This type of system requires a high capacity air compressor with moisture traps. A turbine system simply supplies a large amount of air (via turbine) to the gun; high pressure is not necessary. The turbine is typically powered by a high speed electric motor. The heat from the turbine eliminates up to 95% of the moisture in the air. This type of system is sold with a turbine, hose, and spray gun. Most of the cost is from the spray gun and not the turbine due to the machining requirements of the
  • 55. Black Mirror By Michel Foucault s View On Modern Society he 15 Million Merits episode of Black Mirror elucidates the view on discipline of cited humanities scholar Michel Foucault in its futuristic take on modern day society. Foucault claims that through the means of surveillance and observation, a natural order will take over sophisticated societies without much policing power. By establishing common behaviors in different settings, a high level of discipline can be achieved without effort. In many different commonly used places like schools, factories, hospitals and prisons, a similar examination takes place among workers, patients and prisoners, creating a similar and normal accepted behavior. In Black Mirror, the society runs smoothly without the presence of a central figure of authority, and this directly relates to the Foucauldian view on society. The use of advanced technology all around them creates the feeling of being watched, so with that panoptic illusion in the forefront, the behavior of the citizens follows all rules and codes of conduct. The structure and everyday feel of the environment is seen in the opening scene where Bing is first introduced. The room he wakes up in is quite small and box like. It has a bed and a bathroom, and electronic screens take the places of all the walls surrounding him. The bed sheets and his entire outfit is a gray color, and after his wakeup call recedes from the screens, the room is plunged into an all around darkness, which adds to Bing s outwardly somber mood. He proceeds to get
  • 56. Social, Physical, And Emotional Trauma That People Suffer... To study the financial, physical, and emotional trauma that people suffer because of illegal activities is called victimology. Victimologists, also known as social scientists, investigate the role the victims play in a crime. To do their work these scientists have to be unbiased in face of conditions where it can be hard to separate personal emotions from the crimecommitted. Social scientists are often faced with a plethora of circumstances that could compromise their ability to be truly objective. The factors that could potentially cloud a social scientists judgment include their own personal experience when it comes to crime, their lack of personal experience when it comes to the crime, and the social environment they live in. A social scientist personal experience with a crime can, in my opinion, be the hardest factor in which to overcome and stay objective. Their personal involvement with the crime can cause them to lose sight of their objectivity and have their own prejudices show in their work. When a victimologist suffers through a crime such as a robbery or rape their views and other aspects of their personality can be altered due to the traumatic situation they were a part of. Social scientists that suffer at the hands of illegal affairs can obtain tunnel vision and only focus on the victims point of view, because they know have a sentimental tie towards the victim as the scientist and victim went through the same event. Having personal experience with crimes
  • 57. Of Elizabeth Minchin s The Expression Of Sarcasm In... Elizabeth Minchin s The Expression of Sarcasm in the Odyssey , published in 2010, analyzes Homer s usage of sarcasm in the Odyssey and explains its significance. Minchin s critical analysis peaked my interest specifically because it studies not only the expression, but the reception of sarcasm as seen in the Odyssey. Minchin suggests that in lines 397 399 of Book XVII, when Telemachustells Antinous ...Antinous, as a father of his son you take good care/ of me, when you tell our stranger guest to get out of the palace/ with a strict word , that Telemachus apparent politeness is superficial. Telemachus sarcastic comments aimed towards Antinous can be interpreted in two ways. Not only was the comment intended to be a bitter jab at Antinous, but as Minchin mentions, Telemachus bitterness ...works as an affiliative strategy between Telemachus and his actual father (Minchin 545). I agree with Minchin s findings, at this point in the poem, Telemachus is the only one that knows that the beggar is Odysseus. Telemachus sarcastic tone instills a sense of familiarity between him and his father, as they have not seen each other in years, thus strengthening the bond between them. Minchin s claim is plausible, given that the intention of lines 397 399 were to convey attitude in the form of a taunt towards Antinous as a form of humility. Telemachus not only wanted to subtly berate Antinous, but do it in a way that would also serve as a reintroduction of his father son relationship with Odysseus. Book XX is when Ktesippos, a suitor is introduced. With Odysseus still disguised as a beggar, Ktesippos demonstrates false means of hospitality towards him. It isn t until Ktesippos offers the beggar a guest gift of an ox hoof, in which he proceeds to throw it at Odysseus s head and misses. Odysseus reacts with a sardonic smile which infuriates Ktesippos even more than him failing to hit his head with the ox hoof. It is at this point when Minchin states that the bitter ox hoof incident could have prompted Odysseus to abandon his beggar disguise and kill all the suitors, however, I disagree. If Odysseus would have abandoned his disguise at this point in the poem simply because of Ktesippos sarcastic display of
