1. Essays On Nuclear Energy
Writing an essay on the subject of nuclear energy can be a formidable task, laden with a myriad
of challenges. This topic requires a comprehensive understanding of not only the scientific and
technical aspects of nuclear energy but also its social, economic, and environmental implications.
Crafting a well-rounded essay demands the ability to delve into complex concepts such as
nuclear reactions, reactor designs, and the intricate balance between the benefits and risks
associated with nuclear power.
One of the primary difficulties lies in synthesizing information from diverse sources, ranging
from academic journals to policy papers, to present a nuanced and balanced perspective. It
requires a careful examination of the historical context, including incidents like Chernobyl and
Fukushima, to assess the lessons learned and advancements made in nuclear safety measures.
Additionally, the writer must navigate through the controversies surrounding nuclear energy,
such as concerns about nuclear proliferation, radioactive waste disposal, and the potential for
catastrophic accidents.
Moreover, the essay should address the socio-political aspects, exploring how public perception,
government policies, and international relations influence the development and deployment of
nuclear energy. Articulating a coherent thesis amidst the diverse opinions and ongoing debates in
the field adds another layer of complexity.
To tackle this topic successfully, a writer needs not only a solid foundation in the sciences but
also proficiency in communicating complex ideas to a broader audience. Striking the right
balance between technical details and accessibility is crucial to engage readers who may have
varying levels of familiarity with the subject matter.
In conclusion, writing an essay on nuclear energy demands meticulous research, a nuanced
understanding of multifaceted issues, and the ability to present information in a compelling and
accessible manner. It's a task that requires not only intellectual rigor but also a keen awareness of
the broader implications of nuclear energy on society and the environment.

2. Coal Mining As Environmental Health Issue
There is a common bond throughout Kentucky that stretches from western to eastern
state lines that unites many Kentuckians. This common thread is coal mining.
Window decals proudly proclaiming Coal miner s daughter , friend of coal license
plates, and yard signs declaring Coal keeps the lights on are only a fraction of the coal
mining propaganda frequently seen throughout my community. There is an allure to
being a coal miner not only because it is a high paying job that does not require a
college degree, but also because being a coal miner evokes a sense of pride within
people. However due to the occupational hazards and coal s impact on the
environment, coal miningalso poses as a very real environmental health issue for not
only my community in western Kentucky but the entire state as well. This research
paper aims to describe coal mining as environmental health issue, explain the
potential health risks of working in and living near coal mines, identifying regulations
and laws concerning the issue, describe the industry s response to this issue, describe
my community s response to this issue, and identify needs and nursing interventions
required for affected aggregates.
COAL MINING AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ISSUE:
Coal mining is a relevant and current environmental health issue for not only my
community or state, but the entire United States as well. Emissions from burning
coal, water pollution related to mining coal, and coal ash, a byproduct from coal
3. join the army Essay
I retired from the Army last year July 1, 2004. After spending 23 years in the Army,
I would encourage any young man or woman to join. The Army was a great
experience, and I would do it all over again if given the opportunity. The benefits I
received made it well worth the occasional sacrifice. Some of the benefits are full
time employment, money for college, free health care, Learning new skills, and the
pride of knowing you are serving your country. While in the Army I earned decent
money, 30 days vacation a year, and was eligible for numerous benefits for my
service.
While on active duty in the Army I received what is called basic pay.
I got paid twice monthly on the 1st and the 15th of each month. I have heard a lot of

I would venture to say not very many.
Another important benefit the Army provides is educational benefits. The
Montgomery GI Bill is available for active duty and veterans to help with education
costs. The Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits for college, business
technical or vocational courses. The veteran or soldier must be a full time student
enrolled in a regionally or Nationally Accredited college or university, and can get
up to $1004 a month at the current rate to cover education benefits, including high
tech or vocational technical programs. It all adds up to a total benefit of over
$36,000 and these benefits are increasing every year. The college loan repayment
program can assist in paying off student loans. Soldiers on active duty can receive
up to $65,000 for college loans. Soldiers in the Army Reserve can receive up to
$20,000 for college loans. To take advantage of this program soldiers must enlist
full time in the Army for three years or in the Army Reserve for six years. The
Army also allows its soldiers to attend college while on active duty and pay up 100%
of the tuition. The Army partners with over 1,600 community colleges and four year
universities, so its soldiers can attend college during active duty service.
Another great benefit in the army is family medical and dental care at little or no
cost. Soldiers and family members can receive
4. Essay On Election Act
Section One: Introduction
Paragraph 1:
Canada is the second largest country, going over 6 different time zones and covering
four and half hours might make difficulties at election time, but It is extremely
important the government maintains election rules do not infringe people s human
rights, and specifically the Canada Election Act, the people who write the laws
regarding the election. These laws broke the Charter of Human rights multiple time,
and people felt that. The first was Stephen Harper, Canada s 22nd and second
longest lasting Prime minister. Harper filed a complaint, pointing out s.350 of the act
violates his freedom of expression. Harper explained that limiting the number of

Nevertheless, the Crown argued s.329 is a reasonable limit to the freedom of
expression because apparently s.1 of the Charter states the charter only guarantees the
rights and freedoms to a reasonable limit. Furthermore, the crown proved Bryan was
fully aware of this ruling because they sent him a message.
On the other hand, the defense stayed with one true argument, s.329 violates s.2 of
the Charter. On the contrary to the Crown s argument that s.329 was a reasonable
violation of the freedom of expression, the defense proved that s.329 is a terrible
section for Canada. Firstable, this section is one day out of 1461, and a matter of
maybe 2 hours only in the evening time for the Western part of Canada. Not to
mention how many people actually watch his website, In fact, this posting reflects
less than 1% of the people voting, on the other hand, we are talking about the concept
of democracy, one of the earliest written charters of Canada. This one small section
of the Election act cannot override the charter. The defense did not hide what Bryan
did, Bryan admitted, after all, it was a reasonable human action.
Section Two: Decision
Paragraph 1:
Bryan was originally declared guilty by the British Columbia Court. The Columbia
Court charged Bryan with $1000. The case was later appealed to the Supreme Court
of Canada on the basis that the decision violated Bryan s freedom of expression
guaranteed by the s.2 of the Charter of

6. The History Of Russia
The Russian Federation is a major world power on the economic and political stage,
as it is a vast nation with valuable resources within its borders. Politically, Russia has
a history of intervening in foreign affairs and playing an active part in major world
conflicts. This has caused some democratic countries to impose sanctions on the state,
resulting in an economic recession and strained political relationships. Russiais a semi
presidential federation with a communist past. Even today, the Russian government is
still elusive and hesitant to release information. The current President is Vladimir

Russia has been involved in every major war in Europe of the 20th century,
including World War One, World War Two, the Cold War and the Russian Civil War
(Rosenberg). Russia also had ties to the Korean war, as the communist entity
supported North Korea during the Cold War era. In recent politics, Russia s ties with
the United States have been complicated over the election of President Donald
Trump and Russia s alliance with the Assad Regime in Syria (Nakashima). There are
also allegations that President Trump s son met with Russian officials regarding
Hillary Clinton and that Jared Kushner proposed a secret Washington Moscow
communications line for easy access to Russian officials. The relationship between
Russia and the United States has deteriorated to a level not reached since the end of
the Cold War and dissolution of the Soviet Union. Furthermore, the threat of a
nuclear attack by Russia and its ally, North Korea, are at an all time high.
In terms of economics, Russia is currently recovering from a recession. However,
that does not prevent it from being a world superpower. The Russian GDP had
been sharply declining from 2014 2017, but it is still part of the exclusive G20 and
G8. The recession was caused by American sanctions, the Crimean crisis and falling
oil prices. Russia has many
7. Oedipus Vs Hamlet Essay
When dealing with universal themes in plays like Oedipus or Hamlet, a set time
period is not necessarily required. A production of Hamlet could take place in the
year 2016 and make sense if adapted correctly. What is important when adapting a
play is not presenting it exactly as the playwright wrote it hundreds of years ago, in
the case of Shakespeare s Hamlet, but keeping the themes that make the playwhat it
is. To completely change the story of Hamlet and differ too greatly from the
original story would defeat the purpose of the production. The director has to
adhere to the main themes of whichever play they choose because that play they
chose obviously carries the message they want to send to an audience. A director s
job is to bring their ideas about a play to life and present that to an audience,
therefore, demonstrating their ideas for that audience. The ideas spread and are then
absorbed by an audience member, who leaves the play filled with the new knowledge
or new ideas.
Older plays, like Oedipus or Hamlet, are the most ... Show more content on

When adapting a play into a different historical era or setting it in modern times,
maintaining the essential themes that make the play what it is cannot be
manipulated. However, some main ideas and themes in a play can be enhanced or
made clearer to the audience by setting the play in a different time period. It all
depends on whether the creative team behind a production can communicate their
meaning and the change to the audience. If the audience understands the change, the
interpretation and adaptation is successful. Implementing a new idea or a different
outlook into an older play might enhance the play by bringing forth political points
that correlate with today s society and its issues, prompting the audience to take note
and reflect on our problems and attempt to find a

Consequently, the marginal benefits of getting rid of surplus and enjoying incoming

Furthermore, at the new equilibrium price and quantity, the Python crew was raking
in greater producer surplus. Overall, the action created a positive producer
externality by creating better public relations than threatening legal actions against
YouTubers who illegally uploaded the videos. What the Monty Python did was
unheard of before. This is a very creative idea to combat piracy in the modern age
of technology while profiting from good relation. The idea clearly illustrates one of
the factors that affect the demand curve: Information. Through a classic all else

brings great benefits for both consumers and producers. In the end, the Monty Python
Channel has over 129 million views and five hundred thousand subscribers as of Feb.
11. What Were The Causes Of The American Revolutions
A revolution, as defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the violent attempt by
many people to end the rule of one government to start a new one. In 1640, the long
parliament was found and was followed by the short parliament which followed a 11
year absence. Two revolutions in 1642 1660 and 1688 1689, overturned two kings
and confirmed the constitutional powers of an elected parliament, laying the
foundation for the idea that government must guarantee certain rights to the people
under the law. The first was the English revolution which was introduced by Marxist
historians, where parliament challenged King Charles I s authority. Although,
Parliament interfered in civil conflict against his forces, King Charles I was executed
in 1649. The second was the Glorious revolutionwhich supporters of the parliament
announced because it was achieved with little bloodshed. In this revolution, King
James II of Englandwas removed from power by a group of English Parliamentarians

against those trying to push the Church of England toward Catholicism. The English
Civil War between Charles I and Parliament took place from 1642 1646 and divided
the country. The king s army known as the Cavaliers were supporting northern and
western England. Parliament s forces were known as the Roundheads who defended

reformers in the House of Commons wanted to undo what they saw. The civil war

Topic: War, change
Theme: War changes the soldier s personalities and perceptions.
Thesis: O Brien reveals that no matter what the circumstances were the people who
were exposed to the Vietnam War were greatly affected; O Brien showed this
through the changes in Mary Anne Bell. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , by
Tim O Brien, is a short story about how Mark Fossie brought Mary Anne Bell, his
girlfriend, to the Vietnam War, thinking that this would be the best thing for both of
them. It turns out that Mary Anne s personality and appearance were drastically
altered during the war. This caused a change in their relationship. Mary Anne came

Mary Anne s character showed increasingly inhuman and savage tendencies. She
wore a bush hat and filthy green fatigues; she carried the standard M 16 automatic
assault rifle. Her face was black with charcoal (11). In this sentence, Tim O Brien
described the changes that Mary Anne overcame from this young pure girl to this
indigenous person living in a harsh jungle by describing her attire, a bush hat, M
16, and her face was black with charcoal. Through this sentence, Mary Anne, the
character and behavior of soldiers change throughout the war, because this pure
girl does not turn into a indigenous human like this without any reason. She was
also a part of the land. She was wearing her culottes, her pink sweater, and a
necklace of human tongues (20). In this sentence, Mary Anne is seen as a complete
iron hearted and psychotic. Tim O Brien has a lot of implications in this sentence.
First, a human necklace human tongue (20) shows the character like an insane and
heartless soldier changed by war. She wears her culottes, her pink sweater (20), this
sentence is externally shown to the soldiers who want to go back to when they were
pure. However, Tim O Brien also reveals the soldiers would like to return to their
former mental status after the Vietnam War, but the soldiers were already past the
point of no return, they lost their emotions and part of themselves. These the soldiers
became too dangerous due to the circumstances they had been

The dispute between Alex (A) and George (G) raises three issues: (1) are contracts
between spouses valid, (2) if so, is A entitled to enforce the valid contract allowing
him to continue staying in the house shared with G and (3) is the agreement for the
sale of further Lucian Prints between A and G sufficiently certain to constitute a
valid contract. Addressing the first issue, the general rule, as derived from the
judgment delivered by Lord Atkins in Balfour v Balfour1 is that domestic
agreements are not presumed to be legally binding. In the case, Mr Balfour who was
working in Ceylon agreed to pay his wife ВЈ30 to support herself while she remained
in England. Their relationship broke down and she tried to enforce the agreement. The

Unger, suggested that consideration was absent from the Balfour8 case, which was
a contributing factor to why there was no intention to create a legal relationship,
concurring with the judgment of Atkin LJ9 . Another exemption was established

are not living in amity, and are separated or about to be separated will bargain

(CA) 2 Balfour v Balfour [1919] 2 K.B. 571 (Atkin LJ s), agreements by parties to
walk together or offer hospitality are examples of agreements that would not
ordinarily result in a contract, and the same can be said about agreements between

general rule are satisfied, a valid contract between spouses can exist. To constitute a
valid contract, there must be an offer by one party which is the expression
15. The Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis
Literature doesn t necessarily have to fit it into the reader s life, novels like
Fahrenheit 451 or 1984 lack major connections to teenage life, but are still taught
in school, a book should teach a lesson or give food for thought, this book does.
The Lord of the Flies is a novel that has become a mainstay in high school literature
for decades, some detractors of this book believe that, since it has nothing to do
with high school teens, its main audience, it should be removed from public
schools. However, the Lord of the Flies acts as a social experiment, allowing for
discussion of the way rules control our interactions in society. In addition to this, the
book shouldn t be removed from school since it also teaches how young people are...

On the other hand, those with darker intentions like Roger, will act and follow
through on their darkest desires once there s nothing there to stop them. This holds
true to how teens interact with laws in society, like deciding to listen to a rule or
not, a rule being an obstacle in the way of someone s plans, or a law that is viewed as
the best for society.
The book should be maintained as a standard in the classroom because it discusses the
topics of innocence, bystanderism, and vulnerability. Out of ignorance, in the pouring
rain and lightning, The clan of boys savagely beat Simon to death. They had
thought he was the mythical beast on the island. Many excuses were made, but
one to point out is Piggy s, That s right we was on the outside, we never seen
nothing (Golding 158) he exclaimed, after the topic of Simon s death arose.
Bystanding while bad things happen to others is a common theme, a belief that if
you ignore it, it ll go away, like how the boys decide if they deny they were at the
scene of Simon s death, it ll make feel slightly less responsible for it, although they
were all part of it. They try to deny their loss of innocence, and make them

his father s death, Burbank moved with his family to a small farm in Groton. At the
age of twenty one he purchased seventeen acres of land near Lunenburg and began a

A naturalist is a person who studies or is an expert in natural history, especially a
zoologist or botanist. John Muir was born April 21, 1838, in Dunbar, Scotland.
When he was a young child he enjoyed learning and creating inventions and after
showing his inventions at the state Fair, Muir attended the University of Wisconsin
during the early 1860s. John left school in 1863 and he took up studying botany
and exploring the natural world by foot while taking on jobs to support himself. he
was blinded for a time when he was in involved in an accident while he was
working at a factory in 1870. Upon regaining his sight, he fully embraced his
devotion to nature and walked from Indiana to Florida, creating detailed sketches
of the terrain. Muir became known for his articles that praised the natural world,
speaking in poetic, spiritual terms about his affection for the ecology and
humanity s earth connection, garnering a large and varied readership. He also
published a grouping of essays pushing for the establishment of Yosemite National

Course Overview I found this course to be highly valuable in its efforts to provide
insight on the potential majors of the Belk Scholar s program. While there remain
many questions about the future path of the program, it did help to solidify both
my understanding of the major options and my personal decision. I am more
confident now that the M.S. in Economics is the option I will pursue. Throughout
the course, with every new topic, I always found myself asking the economic
questions of each issue. Furthermore, I continue to find the subject matter to be
fascinating. Equally as beneficial as knowing which path I am leaning towards
was learning more about the other options. Prior to the class, I had an incomplete
idea of what Mathematical Finance is. As most people believe, I had taken it to be
a field dedicated primarily to money and how it is used. I now understand that this
misconception ignores the core of the field; which is risk. Our readings from
Against the Gods were beneficial in building a foundation for the field of
Mathematical Finance. As was pointed out during class, the book was very dense,
but it did an excellent job in delivering complete information. I read some
additional chapters on my own and would have liked to have additional time
during class to discuss other parts of the book. The last of the degree options to
discuss is the Data Science path. While we did not dedicate a portion of the class
solely to the data science field as we did with

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is defined by the Mayo clinic as a mental health
condition that is brought on by the experience of a terrifying event, the symptom
most relevant to this case is severe anxiety. Sinedu and Trang both had experiences
that fell into these categories. For Trang it was the Re education of both her parents,
and turbulent escape from Vietnam. For sinedu it was growing up during the Derg
rule, and the red death. If Trang suffered from PTSD she did a very good job of
concealing it. She also had a much better support system with her sister Thao and the
Vietnamese students union. As for SInedu her inability to interact with the other
students and staff at Harvard more than likely intensified her her distress. She was

20. Plessy V. Ferguson Case Study
In 1892, the Plessy v. Ferguson case had emerged from a conflict from Louisiana s
Separate Car Act. The law required that railroads have separate but equal
accommodations, prohibiting African American and White passengers from entering
besides the one they were assigned to based on race. Homer Plessy, a seven eighths
White and one eighth African American bought a rail travel ticket in Louisiana for
the White car and took a seat. He was later told to move to the African American car,
after refusing to move he was arrested and charged for not complying with the
Separate Car Act. In the U.S. District Court, Judge John H. Ferguson dismissed
Plessy s argument that the act was unconstitutional. The majority who went with
Associate Justice Henry Billings Brown jilted Plessy s arguments that it opposed the
Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment. The dissenting opinion was with Associate
Judge John Marshall Harlan who said that the court was neglecting the purpose of
the Separate Car Act, which said under the guise of giving equal accommodation for

21. The Best Vacation Spots
There are many places to go for a vacation. Usually the most popular choices are the
soft sandy beaches or the white snowy mountains. Both places offer a ton of
exciting activities to do through out the day and night. In a contrasting
perspective the beach offers a variety of amenities that the mountains do not and
vice versa. These get away spots are very different in many ways such as climate,
actives to do and location. The climate is a very important part of planning a trip. It
determines all sorts of things like the clothes you ll wear and the things you ll be
doing. In the mountains where the forestation is extremely vivacious, the air is
crisp, the altitude is very high, and the temperature is freezing cold. In response to
the drastic weather change, big thick insulated jackets, mittens, beanies, scarves,
and snow boots are necessary to keep warm. Also, Due to the severe weather, the
mountains tend to be very secluded, perfect for a romantic getaway. The beach
however, is surrounded by the endless ocean and the warm soft sand. The beach has
a low altitude, and has a very warm temperature with an occasional ocean breeze.
Due to the heat and water nearby, people usually wear bathing suits, sunglasses, and
flip flops. The different activities one could experience at either destination are very
different. At the mountains the snow gives an unlimited amount of fun snow sports
such as, snowboarding, skiing, toboggan riding, sledding and more. If sports aren t

23. Literary Analysis Of Once More To The Lake
Literary Analysis: Once More to the Lake and Forgetfulness The poem
Forgetfulness by Billy Collins and the passage Once More to the Lake by E.B
White, both use devices to develop a similar theme of time. The poem Forgetfulness
uses figurative language and describing words to develop a theme of forgetfulness,
while Once More to the Lake uses flashbacks and sensory details to develop a theme
of accepting aging. In the passageOnce More to the Lake , a man struggles with his
identity while at the lake with his son. The two passagesOnce more to the Lake and
Forgetfulness both use devices to develop the common theme that of, time is the
greatest enemy.
First and foremost, Once More to the Lake by E.B White develops the theme by
applying amazing flashbacks and outstanding sensory details. In the passage White
struggles with his identity and accepting reality which leads to a huge problem that

24. Vietnam Bond Market
Introduction
In recent years, the issue of efficiently mobilizing capital has become the concern of
all companies. There are some ways of doing this: borrowing from the banks, issuing
stocks or issuing bonds. However, when the interest rate of borrowing from banks is
very high due to high inflation, together with the stock market is quite instable;
calling for capital from bond market is much more preferred by investors.
In the context of this report, some major points regarding the bond market in Vietnam

However, Vietnamese individual investors still prove to be unprofessional for some
reasons: Main source of capital usually coming from banks, lack of reliable
information about the market, limitation in accurate evaluation of the value of bonds
and the bond issuing organizations. Therefore, they have tendency to invest following
the majority: sell immediately when prices of securities decrease and buy right away
when prices increase. This will lead to the high fluctuation of the market, so easily
results in the losses suffering of many investors.

26. Essay on Dante s Inferno and Classical Mythology
Dante s descent into Hell in Inferno, the first part of his Divine Comedy, tells of the
author s experiences in Hades as he is guided through the abyss by the Roman
author, Virgil. The text is broken into cantos that coincide with the different circles
and sub circles of Hell that Dante and Virgil witness and experience. Infernois heavily
influenced by classic Greek and Roman texts and Dante makes references to a myriad
of characters, myths, and legends that take place in Virgils Aeneid, Homer s Iliad and
Odyssey, and Ovid s Metamorphoses. Some of the most important references,
however, are the most obvious ones that are easily overlooked simply because of the
fact that they are so blatant. Dante is being escorted through Hell by the... Show more

Virgil does describe the entrance to the underworld in great detail, though. He says
that the cavern was profound, wide mouthed, and huge, / Rough underfoot,
defended by dark pool / And gloomy forest. Overhead, flying things / Could never
safely take their way, such deathly / Exhalations rose from the black gorge / Into
the dome of heaven (Virgil 6.331 6). While there is no reference to a gate in Virgil
s account, Dante may have been using the gate imagery as a way to distinguish his
work from the Greco Roman texts. Inferno is an overtly Christian text and Dante
may have used the gate as a way to juxtapose the entrance to Hell in relationship to
the Pearly Gates that guard the entrance to Heaven. As Dante and Virgil descend
through the underworld they encounter many of the supernatural figures that appear
in many of the Greco Roman texts. Very often these creatures are mentioned in
passing, given little more than a line of description. However, in Canto 9, Dante and
his guide encounter the three Furies in the sixth circle of Hell and quite a bit of time
is given to describing these figures of Greco Roman mythology. Tobias Foster Gittes
explains why the Furies are given more concern by Dante than other mythological
characters when he posits that since the Furies figure prominently in Virgil s Aeneid,
it is only natural that Dante s Virgil is quick to

In Defence of livestock Although many researchers believe that our planet s
environment and ecosystems are facing many challenges due to livestock production,
proponents of livestock production believe that the reason why the our environmental
condition has worsened is not that we eat more meat but because we eat less of it.
Niman argues that instead of decreasing production, we should focus on producing
meat that is more environmentally sound. She also argues that Feed production with
all its attendant problems of fossil fuel consumption, soil erosion, greenhouse gases,
and chemical pollution can be avoided altogether (Niman, 79). In Defending Beef ,
she explicitly criticises the FAO s Livestock s Long Shadow and questions certain

There are many different practises and methods available for livestock production,
and ultimately it is the choices that farmers make that determines the production s
level of sustainability. The practices of industrial large scale operations like
CAFOs result in both environmental damage as well as health concerns for
humans and animals. Depletion, pollution and contamination are the biggest
obstacles we face when trying to move toward a more sustainable planet. But when
livestock is handled responsibly, with consideration for the environment and
potential consequences, it is indeed possible to produce livestock that is beneficial
for our planet. Organic and grass based farming systems such as silvopastoral
systems have been proven to increase biodiversity, reverse soil erosion and
counteract water depletion. By encouraging farmers to move towards more
sustainable methods like these, we can help curb today s more urgent issues
regarding our environment. While there are disagreements between researchers on
how to do this, they all agree that we have to take some kind of action to save our
planet. Possible ways to achieve this include not consuming meat, or buying meat
from local, organic and grass based farmers to ensure the livestock was raised in a
responsible way. If more consumers demanded this type of meat,

30. Comparison Of Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, expertly parodies historical events throughout
the Middle Ages. It was able to do this by adding a humorous touch to these events.
Though with this they were only imitation and there were times in which the facts
were misconstrued about the general knowledge during this time period. The
examples the best demonstrate the differences and similarities include the time
period of the Bubonic plague, the determining of a witch, and the interactions
between Sir Robin and his troubadour. The first example that compared the general
of knowledge of the time period in the movie with historical facts is the Bubonic
Plague (otherwise known as the Black Death). During the time of the plague there
would be men with wheel carts who would come around and collect the dead. This

Joyce
Sabina Trejo Garcia
Brian Richardson
ENGL346
18 November 2014
Life After Death Death is terrifying. Almost everyone is afraid of the uncertain, and
what happens to each of us after we die is ironically one of the many unanswerable
questions of the living. Despite various explanations from different religions and
other theories, there is no definite answer regarding an afterlife. However there can
be some validation in saying that there is life after death because the memories of a
person remain alive among those who live. The dead affect the living. The dead
cast a shadow on the present, and force people to reflect on their mistakes. So even
after death, someone can have an impact on the actions of those they leave behind,
and this is where life and death intersect. There are many different ways in which the
dead affect the living, but perhaps the best examples can be seen through literature.
James Joyce was an Irish novelist, and no doubt one of the most influential writers of
the early 20th century. Joyce explores the intersection of life and death in, The
Dubliners, a collection of short stories. He begins with the story, The Sisters, and
ends the collection with, The Dead. In both of these stories, Joyce uses the stream of
consciousness to show the reader observations of big events through small details in
the everyday lives of the main characters. Joyce explores themes such as paralysis, to
ultimately show how death impacts the main character of each story and
32. Skin Wrinkling Lab
2.Skin Wrinkling
Skin wrinkling is a natural evolution of the skin and it can be observed in the non
hairy (glabrous) parts of the hands and feet during water immersion. These wrinkles
are temporary and vanish after the skin is dry, unlike the permanent wrinkles on other
parts of the skin caused by aging or sunburn.
2.1 Physiology
There are hypotheses made about the physiology of water immersed wrinkling
considering it an osmotic swelling of the stratum corneum, increased deep tissue
turgor, and contraction of myoepithelial cells in the absence of sebaceous glands in
glabrous skin [1]. Tsai et al. [19] after an experiment conducted on fourteen healthy
participants in four different water solutions, believed that the skin wrinkling is caused

[9] showed the importance of heart rate variability in detecting water induced skin
wrinkling in an experiment involving young and healthy subjects. Heart rate
variability influences the sinus node making a directly connection with the
autonomic nervous system. Short term heart rate variability is used commonly as a
marker for autonomic function and the study showed that subjects with higher heart
rate variability also presented high water induced skin wrinkling. The study showed
that skin wrinkling can also be affected by the height of the subject due to the
possible reflexion of the surface are of the fingertip, allowing the water to diffuse
faster. In addition to this study, Kamran et al. [17] studied the effects on the skin
wrinkling for 60 patients with congestive heart failure. Results showed that the
degree of skin wrinkling is reduced in patients with congestive heart failure but also
affected by age and height and not by gender or weight.
2.3 Evoke and Evaluation
Because of this connection with vasoconstriction, water immersed wrinkling was
proposed, by other studies also, as a bedside test for sympathetic nerve function [1,
4 8, 59]. The fact that water induced skin wrinkling is cheap and simple, makes it
more easy for scientists to use. However, the test requires a 30 minute water

34. Carl Sagan s Belief Systems
Carl Sagan starts by wondering why we have various belief systems. There have
been many examples of belief systems and at any time you would find a set of
popular, more or less similar, belief systems (Sagan, pg. 379). The systems can
change in a matter of years or last thousands of years, depending on the support
provided to the system from the people. Also, there are always a number of belief
systems to choose from. These systems are similar in that they have a comparable
reason for their presence. He came to the conclusion that belief systems fulfill a real
human needthat [is] not being met by our society (Sagan, pg. 379). These include
medical needs, spiritual needs, or a need to communicate and connect with the rest of
society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both view the belief systems as offering a different way to satisfy the needs of the
public, if the social systems that are in place cannot satisfy those needs. They differ
in that Hufford says that it is a criticism of the social system, calling the system
indirectly inadequate. Sagan may have held this view as well, but did not discuss it
within this article. The idea that belief fulfills a need is accurate. I agree that their
observation holds true to society. Taking an example of mainstream religions, many
say that they join and practice because they feel closer to a community of like minded
individuals.
Carl Sagan s argues for skepticism to be more widely used in a person s daily life.
He leads with an example of buying a used car. He goes on to explain that many
people will question the dealer about the quality of the car or bring a mechanically
inclined friend along. This opens the audience to the idea that many people are
already skeptical of certain situations. People have heard stories that used car
salesmen may sell malfunctioning cars and will take precautions when purchasing a
car. Skepticism is something that is necessary to our lives, because it can prevent us
from making a mistake by not asking questions. Sagan wants that skepticism to
spread to other beliefs and ideas. As an example of people or ideas people do not
question, Sagan uses commercials. Sagan says that commercials are not meant to be
questioned about

36. Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Romantic Era
In order to explore the career of Ludwig van Beethoven, and his bridging the gap
between the classical and romantic eras of music, this essay will examine the style
of music and its features, most commonly associated with the Classical era (1750
1820), and those of the Romantic era (1815 1820) . It will look at some musical
examples from Beethoven s work, how they fit into each of the eras, and also how
they transition from one era to the next. Beethoven s career spans both eras
mentioned above, from his public debut in Vienna in 1795 to his death in 1827.
This essay will strive to explore the reasons why Beethoven is called a transitional
composer. To begin a discussion on the classical era, let us first look at some typical
musical features of the era and how Beethoven used and developed them in his works.

Looking at melody lines to begin with, composers in the romantic era tended to use
longer phrases which were more songlike. Melodies tended to lead to a climax or
peak and the use of chromaticism and expression increased. Beethoven s
development of expression was second to none, some of this possibly owing to the
trauma that he suffered, both as a boy, in the hands of his father, and as a man with
his increasing deafness and the unrequited love. Beethoven s music sets in motion
the lever of fear, of awe, of horror, of suffering, and wakens just that infinite longing
which is the essence of romanticism. Beethoven s symphony in C minor was
mentioned earlier in this essay, and was used to show features of the classical era.
This symphony epitomises the transition from classical to romantic as it contains the
forward moving features of the romantic era as well. The longer melody line climbs
and climaxes and leads the listener forward into the spirit of the
37. Long Distance Movements Of Animals
Introduction
For most species, movement is essential for life. Movement of seeds helps plants
disperse, while animals move to forage, reproduce, find alternate habitat types,
repopulate areas where they have been extirpated, and maintain genetic diversity
needed to adapt to change. If individuals cannot move across a landscape to mix with
individuals of other populations, local extinctions can result. Additionally, the smaller
a population is, the more vulnerable it is to extinction if that population is also
isolated (i.e., lacks the ability to intermix with other populations (Fagan Holmes
2006)). Juveniles are often especially important for movements that help maintain
genetic diversity in populations (Rothermel Semlitsch 2002).
Long distance movements of animals can take one of two forms, migration or
dispersal. Migratory movements consist of daily, seasonal, or even generational
movements among habitat types while dispersal movements are movements away
from a normal range, providing for the mixing of genetic materials, or the population
of new habitats or repopulation of previously occupied but currently vacant habitats.
When animals migrate, it is because there is a need for individuals in a population
to move to a different habitat patch. These movements can be to reach a breeding
site (Sinevro 2007, Webster et al. 2002), a more favorable climate (PeГ±uelas Filella
2001), an overwintering area (Wilcove Wikelski 2008), or better forage (Olson et al.
2006).

that was due to the absence of sun. The face did not worry the man. (London, 629).
The newcomer was entering Winter temperatures in which he knew nothing of,
reaching seventy five degrees below zero and would soon be in a battle of man

sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all
made impression on the man. (London, 629). As the man travels on through the

2.4 Languages As I have already mentioned, Singapore has four official languages:
English, Tamil, Mandarin and Malay. It was so historically formed that the official
language of Singapore is Malay and the national anthem is also written in Malay
language. English is the administration language of Singapore and it is mainly
British English, but also contain some American English influences. English
remains the first language medium in schools and colleges of the country, and is
also the most widespread language in the literature. All signs and official
publications are written in English, but there are also versions translated into other
official languages. But the population doesn t speak English, but so called Singlish
with Creole characteristics, Chinese dialects, and Indian and Malay languages. 2.5
Culture To describe the culture of the country in the full extent, it is necessary to
investigate into its cuisine, media, performing arts, sports and recreation, as well
as into its architectural heritage. Singapore cuisine is the bright example of cultural
diffusion and diversity of the country, and Indian, Malay, Chinese and Tamil
influences can be observed. Local people enjoy eating mee poh, bak chor mee,
sambal stringray, nasi lemak, satay and chilli crab. All kind of food is usually served
in hawker centers. Food of Singapore is very diverse and includes a lot of seafood
with clams,
41. The Rise of Silas Lapham
In the Story The Rise of Silas Lapham, written by William Dean Howells, Silas s
desire to conform to the standards of society is the root of his company s downfall
but the rise of his understanding and morals. The society Silas is trying to feel
accepted by is very judgmental and vain and do not care about others therefore
making it very tough for the Laphams to be accepted or even feel somewhat normal
where they are living. Persis is a significant character in the novel because in the end
she is why Silas does the things he does because she bestowed good morals in him.
The last attempts to fit in with the community is the building and destruction of the
house. These are all very significant events to the story leading up to Silas last... Show

Persis was one of the most important characters in the book. At the beginning of the
story Silas didn t have very many morals to none at all. She helped him obtain the
morals he lives by. The reason these morals are so vital in the book is because
when he loses site of everything and pursues his desire to fit in he comes back to
these morals and realizes what he s been doing and sacrificing just to be one of
them. A good example of him realizing morals are when Rogers is trying to get
buyers for the mills knowing the companies going go under and the mills aren t
going to be worth anything once it does. Rogers does not tell the English men of
this situation so they are completely unsuspecting when going in to purchase the
mills. When Silas heard this he refused to sell it to them because he didn t want to
cheat them of their money. Rogers then suggests selling the mills to him and he
will sell them to the English men. Silas refuses again. He d rather let his company
go bankrupt than resent that decision for the rest of his life and still be wealthy.
Early in the story Persis said in a conversation with Silas You know he couldn t buy
then. It was no choice at all. You unloaded [a partner] just at the time when you knew
that your paint was going to be worth about twice what it ever had been; and
42. The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh Literary Analysis
The 1860s was a time where young boys were stripped away their youth and
innocence and force to grow up way too fast. Many battles were fought during this
time period, fields were scattered with lifeless bodies of young boys who never got
to experience life. An historical fiction titled, The Drummer Boyof Shiloh , by Ray
Bradbury gives us a clear insight of a confused young boy whose youth was ripped
away from him. The story evolves around an adolescent male named Joby, who
questions his purpose and bravery the night before a big battle. He believes that
except from his drum, he has no one else. It s not until his General comes along that
night does he truly gain his confidence. He starts to finally realize just how important
he can be to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To show just how unprepared for the war boys like Joby are the author uses wild
horses as a symbol. Well, when you got a bunch of wild horses on a loose rein
somewhere (pg 171) The wild horses are interpreted as the young boys in the army.
Because wild horses in real life are disorganized and confused, the author compares
the young boys dragged into the war as disorganized and confused. The
symbolization of wild and confused relates to my life due to the fact that, there are
definitely times when certain aspects adults understand are misinterpreted to me
differently. An equally important symbol recognized in this section of the book is
on page 170, The General stopped and made a little pile of winter leaves and twigs
in the darkness. Twigs and leaves can be used to make a fire. Fire can symbolize
both joy regarding its brightness, but also danger and war. The twigs and leaves
can act as light leading the soldiers out of the darkness of the battle they re about to
embark upon. The battle of Shiloh, in which both Joby and the General are about
participate in can go both ways just like the twigs and leaves. It can result in
extreme destruction and danger, or can be marked as a triumphant battle for them.
Certainly, the symbolization of fire often comes in my life. The reason why is that
every choice in your life can impact your life one way or the other. It can result in
something bright and joyful or something frightening and
44. Definitions And Considerations Of New Markets
Implementations and Considerations
Introduction of New Markets introducing new markets offers profound potential to
attract new and old shoppers to the locality. However it also makes way for many
complications given the Camberwell council already operates a fresh food market
four days a week. The structural aesthetics and general cleanliness of a market plays a
pivotal role for the ultimate consumer. Should the markets look modern and clean
then shoppers are more likely to spend should the markets look old and dirty then
shoppers are more likely to never come again.
Given the infrastructure that the council would most likely use for hosting these new
markets are already being offered to the public for over 45hours a week it would be ...

However hosts must be careful in what movies cultures they choose to broadcast as
bad decisions arising from poor communication could lead to disputes and greater
racial tension than what there already is.
As the council has no movie theatres of their own they must relay this idea through
the cooperation with Rivoli. As Rivoli is a privately run enterprise the council
must offer them some form of financial benefit for their partnership. The focal
point in deciding the partnership with Rivoli lies on the choice of night the
council wishes to introduce this idea upon along with the compensation type the
council is willing to offer. Should it be a Friday or Saturday night Rivoli will
expect more for financial compensation for their services than if it were scheduled
for any other day of the week due to the nature of potential attendees and how most
people have Friday and Saturday nights off from work. Will the council then have
enough capital required to host the event on a Friday or Saturday night for the sake
of multiculturalism? Or is the cheaper alternative and hosting the event during other
days of the week more appropriate? Also shall payment be addressed as a lump sum?
Or will the profit split method be used? Assuming the profit split method is used what
happens if no profit is generated through this event? Will Rivoli finally then cancel
the event due the
