4. The Ukrainian Chemical Industry And Petrochemical
Businesses
The Ukrainian chemical industry includes chemical and petrochemical businesses.
Products produced in Ukraine include mineral fertilisers, non organic acids, such as
sulphuric acid, and sodium bicarbonate. The petrochemical industry also
manufactures car and motor cycle tyres, hoses, and consumer goods. While some of
these items have applications in CW and CW decontamination, it is extremely
unlikely that Ukraine is using them in this context given the absence of several other
important components. State owned enterprises account for less than 20 per cent of
chemical industry enterprises but comprise over 30 per cent of the products. The
remaining enterprises are owned collectively, with open and close joint stock
companies being the predominant form. Within the structure of the industry, asset
and energy intensive basic chemistry enterprises are predominant. In order to stem the

5. Logical Fallacy Essay
A logical fallacy I sawseen in class is when Rebecca told Mrs. Putnam you sent a
child to conjure the dead Mrs. Putnam replied how dare you judge me . Now, a
fallacy is a common error in reasonings that will undermine the logic of your
argument. But there are also different types of fallacies. You can have a fallacy of
appeal to ignorance, appeal to appeal to authority, appeal to popular opinion,
association fallacy, aAttacking the person, begging the question, circular argument,
relationship implies causation, false, illogical conclusion, and slippery slope. I can
start defining each fallacy to show where that fallacy falls in place with the trial I

Relationship implies causation fallacy. Also called cum hoc Ergo propter Hoc this
fallacy is a deposition in which the individual making the contention joins two
occasions that happens consecutively and accepts that one made the other. Theres
also False Dilemma, also called Bifurcation . This sort of error happens when
somebody presents their argument in such a way that there are just two
conceivable alternatives left. Second to last there is illogical conclusion, this
fallacy wherein somebody attests a conclusion that does not follow from the
suggestions. And last but not least fallacy is Slippery slope. The error happens
when one contends that an exceptionally minor movement will unavoidably
prompt great and frequently ludicrous conclusions. Now that i ve explained each
fallacy meaning, we can find which category the logical fallacy I seen in class fits

reason I think that is because Rebecca was being ignorant saying Mrs.Putnam s

6. Franciscans In Much Ado Analysis
From Henry VIII s separation for the Roman Catholic Church to Mary I s persecution
of Protestants, Elizabethan England was a world rife with religious conflict. The
budding Church of England struggled to take root in the hearts and minds of the
people. Popular media of the era reflected this struggle. Many authors and playwrights
sided with the Church of Englandsatirizing Roman Catholic clergy and worshipers in
their fiction; however, some of the period s most enduring plays take a different
approach. In Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, and Measure for Measure,
William Shakespeare created multidimensional Franciscans who serve as wise and
caring councilors, wisdom behind deceptions for the good of the protagonists,
upholders of virtue,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This play features Isabella a novice of St. Clare who is romantically pursued by
Lord Angelo, Sister Fransisca, two friars, and the Duke who disguises himself as a
friar. These Franciscans display the characteristics and highlight the importance of
virtue and honor.
Isabella is the personification of virtue and honor. When her brother Claudio is
imprisoned after impregnated his love Juliet, Angelo calls the novice to court.
Angelo tells her she can save her brother s life if she will give up her vow of chastity
and sleep with him. Isabella refuses. She will not sacrifice her honor and virtue for
her brother s life. This angers Angelo, and he promises to execute Claudio and
somehow haw Isabella (Shakespeare, Measure for Measure, 537).
Although not a true Friar, the while disguised as a Franciscan, the Duke in
Measure for Measure shares the role of councilor while hearing confessions. In act
2 scene 3, Juliet comes to confess to the Friar Duke. She confesses that she and
Claudio had consensual sex and that he should not be blamed in the matter. He
brings he comfort and offers her repentance. Then, when the Duke speaks to Isabella
and Claudio in Act 3.1, he praises Isabella for her virtue in resisting Angelo, and
hears their problem. He has compassion on the siblings, and offers to help them with
their problems (Shakespeare, Measure for Measure,
7. A Critical Evaluation of the Deductive Argument from Evil
Critically Evaluate the Deductive Argument from Evil
Logically, can Evil and the three O God co exist in this universe? The deductive
argument from evil says they cannot. In this essay I will explain the argument and
analyze why it is valid but unsound. I will do this by discussing fallacious nature of
the premise that if God were omnipotent and knew he could prevent the existence of
evil without sacrificing some greater good he would then necessarily prevent it. The
essay will propose the following evaluation of the deductive argument from Evil: that
each premise logically follows from its antecedent, but that the concepts in the
premises themselves are not entirely understood and can be refuted. God s Omni
benevolence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An even further analysis of the issue of misinterpretation of Omni benevolence, or
false assumptions about God s nature, is the claim that the deductive argument
from evil contains a referential fallacy; presuming that all words refer to existing
things and that their meaning lies in what the refer to. This claim of the unsound
nature of the argument asserts that the deductive argument from evil fallaciously
assumes the idea of Omni benevolence is defined by existing ideas and worldly
concepts of all good nature . It is logically possibly, however, that God s perfect
goodness is beyond man s understanding and cannot be defined by actions or non
actions relating to the evil of this world. Thus leading to the false conviction that
God need necessarily eliminate all evil from the world in order to be inherently
good. These forms of counter arguments to the deductive explanation of evil s non
compatibility with God can be refuted. The following are defenses for the
deductive argument that support the primary understanding of God s Omni
benevolence as mandating the elimination of all existing evil. Firstly, Omni
benevolence is a description of God s absolutely good nature and entails that God
desires everything that is good. This desire to bring about good things also means a
desire to prevent evil things from happening. Hence God s good nature doesn t need
to necessarily lead to no omission of good actions, but it does lead to the necessary
idea that God

Education in Underprivileged Countries Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the
most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world. He was right; an
education can provide great opportunities for people. American children have the
chance to receive a quality education, but that is not the case in some countries. In
underprivileged countries, children may not receive an education. In the natural
photograph taken in 2009 by American Press photographer Altaf Qadr, Rajeesh
Kumar Sharma has started a free school under a bridge in India to educate
underprivileged children living in surrounding neighborhoods. Most children in
America will never have to experience a situation like this because the government
has passed laws to guarantee every child receives a quality education, but what if the
government did not regulate education laws? Imagine the children of the United
States having to miss school because of household duties or cultural influences?
These are common scenarios for children in underdeveloped countries. Inadequate
government funding, household duties, and cultural influences affect whether or not
a child receives a valuable education in an underprivileged country. When
governments lack the finances to fund a proper school, children will not receive a
quality education. The government officials in most developing countries simply do
not include funding for primary education in their budget because it is
9. Fuel Consumption Reduction Of Automobile Development
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Not only to save energy but also to protect the global environment, fuel consumption
reduction is main concern of automobile development. In development of vehicle
body, it is essential to reduce drag for improving fuel consumption and driving
performance. An aerodynamically purified body is not only aesthetically attractive
but also it will help much to increase the vehicles appeal to the customer [1].
If a body of arbitrary shape, immerged in a large stationary mass of fluid is moved
with constant velocity through the fluid, the body exerts a force to the fluid, which
opposes the motion of the body [4]. Also the fluid exerts a force to the body as
every action have equal and opposite direction. The force exerts on the body or the
fluid results from the relative motion between the emerged body and its surroundings
fluid. As such it makes no difference in the magnitude of the force whether the body
through the stationary fluid or the fluid flows about the immerged body which is at
rest [5]. In general, vehicles are known to be aerodynamically insufficient compare to
other ground vehicles due to their large frontal areas and bluff body shapes. The
insufficient aerodynamic shape results in excessive drag which leads to elevated fuel
consumption rate [3]. A streamlined shape of vehicle is very important in reducing
fuel demand by up to 7%. Vehicles with an aerodynamic shape use less fuel. Air
flows easily over them and less energy is needed to
10. What is Organizational Theory
Organizational Theories
Organizational theory deals with the study of the interaction of an organization with
its environment. Emphasis on organizational theories has over time changed from the
stiff and hierarchical structures, widespread during the industrial era to more broader
and flexible structures prevalent in the modern, technological era. In this regard,
organizational theories have attracted serious attention. This post focuses on three
organizational theories of the 20th century and if or not they are applicable in the
21st century integrating organizational culture, structures, leadership and enabling
technologies. These are classical organizational theory, human relation theory, and
contingency theory.
Classical Organizational Theory
Classical organizational theory originated in the first half of the 20th century. This
theory concentrated on formal organizations and ideas to increase efficiency in their
management. This theory merged together the scientific, bureaucratic and
administrative theories. Relative to structure, this theory was constructed on a
hierarchical structure dividing workers based on functionality with various reporting
paths on every working unit. That is, workers report to their respective manager(s)
for their tasks as well as disciplinary matters. This theory puts the manager/owner of
the organization in total control over the workers. Furthermore, this theory employed
enabling technologies to increase efficiency. The classical

Abstract
A balanced scorecard is a tool to provide management a way to bridge the gap
between the organization s strategy and vision and the operational processes used to
do business. It enables the company to look at more than just the financial targets, but
to include nonfinancial measures such as customer service, internal business processes
and more. These intangible measures provide better focus on the organization s long
term strategies. This paper is an attempt to analyze Frieda Fizz decision to utilize a
balanced scorecard as they expand into new geographic areas. The strengths and
weaknesses of each perspective are discussed along with the pros and cons of using ...

These financial measures may be appropriate for short term goals, but not provide
enough focus on long term outcomes.
The customer perspectives strengths are that these measures focus on customer
satisfaction. These measures address the link between customer complaints and
profitability. It is expected that as complaints are reduced, sales will increase. The
weaknesses of the customer perspectives are that the focus on customer complaints
does not address the silent customers; that just go to a competitor when they become
dissatisfied with Frieda Fizz products. These measures are appropriate for managers
focus on product quality and the related sales growth. Managers may want to expand
the customer perspective measurements to include measures on customer service as
they expand into more geographic areas.
The internal business perspectives strengths are that they address capacity and
production cost efficiencies. These measures are weak in that they do not
necessarily ensure quality of production or effective use of the production line.
Supervisors may be tempted to overproduce product. The managers may want to
focus on where there is a bottleneck in production or how long stock sits in the
warehouse. These measures are appropriate as it addresses controlling waste and
ensure the plant is optimally utilized.
The learning and growth perspective strengths address controlling costs through
reduction of injuries and improving job performance through training.
12. The History Of Western European Religious Landscape
During the 15th and 16th century, Western Europe was a cauldron of mixed ideas
and emotions. The enlightenment and cumulative effort of individuals of that time
produced different ideas contributing to the renaissance or re birth of religious
doctrine. Change was instigated by various Italian humanists or Popes of the era,
norther humanists such as Desiderius Erasmus, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Henry
VII, and Queen Elizabeth I were some of the participants that changed the paradigm
of Western European religious landscape. Like the secular despots, popes engaged in
war and, when that failed, diplomacy. They brought artistic riches to the church but
also lowered its moral tone by accepting bribes for church offices and filling positions
with kinsmen. But above all, these popes patronized Renaissance culture. Three of
the most aggressive and successful of these popes were Nicholas V. who founded the
Vatican Library. Pius II often considered the most representative of the renaissance
popes because of his interest in Greek and Roman classics he practiced both war and
diplomacy with astounding success and Sixtus IV who came from a powerful family
and increased his personal power through nepotism. Unlike the Italian humanists, the
northern humanists were preoccupied with the condition of the church and the wider
Christian world. These northern thinkers researched and studied both Christian
writings and the Greco Roman classics, and their scholarship was meant to further the

15. Moral Virtue In The Wizard Of Oz
How does one define happiness? For many people, this question makes people think
what exactly it means to be happy. Many philosophers have different views on the
definition of happiness, but one that strikes several scholars is Aristotle s view on
happiness. Aristotle believes that happiness is an activity of the soul in accordance
with perfect virtue. This stems to another question, what is virtue? There are two
types of virtues; intellectual and moral. Intellectual virtues engage in your mental
capacity and moral virtues are the balance or imbalance of the morality of a moral
decision. To achieve perfect virtue, moral virtue needs to have a balance, in which a
feeling of emotionis rationale, with not too much or too little of that emotion
(Aristotle, 11). Aristotle s view of moral virtue is evident in several novels and
films, but more noticeable in the classic film The Wizard of Oz. In the film, The
Wizard of Oz, many characters experience feelings of emotion where they have too
much, too little, and balanced feeling of emotion. All in all, several characters in the
film The Wizard of Oz apply different feelings of an emotion, such as confidence,
compassion, and courage throughout the story, resulting in showing Aristotle s view
of moral virtue as a plausible theory of a path to happiness. Throughout the film The
Wizard of Oz, Aristotle s view on moral virtue is evident in several characters. These
characters include the scarecrow, the tinman, and the lion. In the

Provide a brief overview of the relevant issues and summarize your recommendations.
In early 2003, Boeing announced its plans to develop a new airplane (7E7 7E7
Stretch) in a market that was facing a tight squeeze on profits. The decline in the
airline industry was attributed in large part to the war in Iraq, international terrorism,
and fear of spreading SARS. The development of this new aircraft could possibly
bring Boeing out of their innovation slump and potentially give them an advantage in
the mid sized aircraft market.
Since 1994, Boeing had not put a new airplane into production and had failed to

Boeing had a drop in commercial airplanes delivered from 527 in 2001 to 381 in
2002 and needed this project to keep them in the hunt with Airbus.
The board will also have to consider the decades it may take to recoup the costs of
starting this project. Development costs in the airline industry are substantial
leading to many years of negative cash flows. The introduction of a new plane is a
make or break activity for the producers and requires huge financing capabilities.
The development costs and per copy costs were difficult to predict, and Boeing also
faced engineering uncertainty with the project. The success of the project depends
heavily on Boeing s ability to keep the production costs low and actually deliver a
more efficient aircraft than the competition.
A final consideration that needs to be evaluated is the set up of the Boeing business.
It is set up as two separate businesses the integrated defense systems business and the
commercial business. The defense systems group experienced significant revenue
growth due to the war and demand from fear of terrorism. As stated previously, the
aircraft division is experiencing an uncertain market. Analysts believe that Boeing has
significant technology advantages because of the transferability of R D across the
two divisions.
17. Difference Between Phonetics And Phonology
Introduction: Phonetics and phonology both study the sound system but in a
different way. Phonetics and Phonology both are important for a language as
phonetics represents the speech production system and the perception of human
beings, sign language and phonology represents the sound system conveying its
meaning. Every language has language system by which we can communicate and
pronounce words in a good way. Linguistics is called as the Scientific Study of
Language . Linguistics utilizes scientific formulas and principles in language system.
Linguistics has several branches. Phoneticsand phonologyare the two fundamental
branches of them. Phonology often guided by phonetics. Phonology is also
sometimes called as phonemics or phonematics. The main difference between
phonetics and phonology is that phonetics concerned with physical properties of
pronouncing sounds and phonology concerned with the organized structure of
language though these two study the sound system.

We no longer stop to enjoy the beautiful things and sites around us and instead we

I don t think many today would openly make the sorts of statements he made, but he
did have a point. Which explains why after slaves were freed in the North, they still
were not allowed to own property or vote for decades. They used human beings like
machinery, and even after slavery was eliminated, because it was so embarrassing,
they and their descendants continued to think of ordinary human beings as
machines (pg. 11). He concedes that slavery was wrong, but because it had been a
way of life for so long, it was difficult to overcome the need for it. The victors in
that war were cheated out of the most desirable spoils of that war, which were
human slaves (pg. 164). Doing away with slavery was a monumental success for
this country and a great step towards creating the America we know today, but then
it meant more paid laborers and less money available to land owners, so they weren

19. Themes Of Destino And Self Portrait As A Tehuana
Destino and Self Portrait as a Tehuana: Love s Journey Art is unappreciated today
as people live on their phones and sift through their Twitter feed, rather than
visiting a local museum or art gallery. The word art is very relative as it can
represent just about anything ranging from a complex realistic painting, to a simple
red sheet of canvas, to a hit song on the radio. For millennia, art has been used to
convey the messages people want heard. The short film, Destino, by Salvador Dali
and Walt Disney, as well as the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana, by Frida
Khalo
both exhibit the idea that love comes with difficulties and can be painful at times,
but can work itself out as two people move through their own lives. Destino tells a
love story. One scene in particular shows that the woman cares about the man, that
he is on her mind. The woman comes across a statue of a man. She gets very close
to it, with her face nearly touching the statue s, the woman then pulls away, and the
face of the statue melts off. She is in shock, with her hands on her cheeks. Her
expression is grim, and there is a sad look in her eyes. Her reaction to the man
disappearing shows that she cares about him, whoever it was a statue of, and that he
was on her mind. Likewise, in the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana by Frida Kahlo,
the same idea is portrayed. In the portrait, Diego Riverais pictured on Frida Kahlo s
forehead, symbolizing that he is on her mind. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were
married, and had their ups and downs. Despite their struggles, Kahlo did not stop
loving Rivera, with him always being on her mind. Both pieces of art, the film
Destino and the Self Portrait as a Tehuana both show that the male in the relationship
is on the female s mind. At a point in the film, the idea that the love between the
man and the woman will not last is displayed when the two are running toward each
other and the sand sinks. Huge rocks penetrate the ground and the two are separated
by the giant walls in front of them. This symbolizes the misfortune of their love as it
appears unattainable due to the obstacles in their wake. Similarly, in Kahlo s painting,
the canvas is severely cracked, stemming from the center of the

Dashner discusses and reflects on the threats humanity faces, looks into the truths
behind science fiction, highlights the impact that our attitude towards and perspective
on certain people has on us, contributes factors that have the power to claim certain
senses of our humanity, warns of the dangers behind our rapidly advancing
technology, questions the decisions and ways of our leaders and, in particular, takes a

Dashner has used the character Chuck to represent humanity. Despite the rough
times Chuck still remains the innocent child with the big heart. He s the small,
podgy, humorous 12 year old with the ugly bowl haircut amongst the big, strong,
serious 16+ young adults. Thomas turned to his right to see a kid standing nearby,
short and podgy, staring at him. He was young probably the youngest of any in the
group he d seen so far, maybe twelve or thirteen years old. His brown hair hung
over his ears and neck, scraping the tops of his shoulders. Blue eyes shone through
his otherwise pitiful face, flabby and flushed. (Thomas s description of Chuck,
pg.13 14). Chuck is the odd one out, and Dashner has purposely made him to stand
out in order to emphasise how the others have lost a sense of their humanity. Chuck
also has the ability to return and remind other characters of this lost sense, in
particular Thomas. The friendship struck by these two characters is rather
heartwarming. As much as Thomas tries to deny their relationship at first, he can t
help but take on a big brother like role towards him. Through this connection Chuck
helps us to identify the sense of humanity Tom has lost, compassion and real
emotion, as well as being able to remind Tom again of what it feels like to truly love
and care. Thomas stared at him, stared at his lifeless body. Something happened
within Thomas. It started deep down in his chest, a seed of rage. Of revenge. Of hate.
Something dark and terrible. And then it exploded, bursting through his lungs,
through his neck, through his arms and legs. Through his mind . (Thomas feelings
towards Chucks murder, pg.354). This emotion from Thomas was evoked by Chuck.
Hate, one of humanities strongest emotions that can only truly be brought on by

21. ##ymbolism, And Language In The Little House By Laura...
Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote many books, and even received five Newberry Honor
Medals for them. She was born on February 7th 1876 and lived until age ninety.
Wilder was the author of The Little House series the second book in the series is
about her husband s experiences growing up on a farm in New York. The third
book is about the time Wilder spent on the American Prairie. In these books, Wilder
uses imagery, symbolism, and language from when she was growing up. One of
the most common elements is Wilder s writing is imagery. She uses beautiful
compilations of words to paint a picture in the minds of readers. An example of
this is, In a perfect circle the sky curved down to the level land and the wagon was
in the circle s exact middle, (13). This is a description of how it looked when
Wilder was traveling on the American Prairie. This quote could make you feel two
different things, freedom and loneliness. At this point in time, Wilder and her
family were probably feeling a mix of both. Later in the book, Wilder provides
another example, Everything was striped there. Stripes of sunshine came through
the cracks in the west wall, and stripes of shadow came down from the poles
overhead. The stripes of shade and sunshine were all across Laura s bare feet. And
through the cracks between the logs she could see stripes of prairie. The sweet
smell of the prairie mixed with the sweet smell of cut wood. This particular piece of
imagery describes how it looked when Pa first finished
22. Operant Conditioning Paper
Introduction Operant conditioning is described as the way of learning in which the
future likelihood of a particular behavior is affected by it consequences. Interested
in animal intelligence, the first experimental studies of operant conditioning were
attempted by Edwin L. Thorndike in the 1890s (Powell, Honey, Symbaluk, 2013).
Of the many experiments Thorndike conducted with animals, the most famous
experiment involved cats (Powell, Honey, Symbaluk, 2013). Thorndike placed
cats in an enclosed puzzle box and placed a dish of food outside of the puzzle box
for the cat. The mail goal of the experiment was to see how quickly the cat could
learn to escape the puzzle box to reach the food. After many repeated trials the cat

It is also possible that some consequences that seem to act as positive
reinforcements, may actually be more of an aversive stimulus. When the rat finally
learns to press the lever down with enough force, it closes the switch that enables
the food magazine to release a reinforcement pellet. After a few more trials where the
rat receives a pellet for pressing down on the lever when it is hungry, that rat has
managed to learn an entirely new behavior through shaping (Powell, Honey,
Symbaluk, 2013).
Methods
The operant conditioning experiment included one female rat (K13). My
hypothesis for the experiment is that K13 will be conditioned to press the lever in
the Skinner operant chamber 2,000 times in a 30 minute time period. K13 was
weighed before starting operant condition, weighing in at 233g. The rat s weight
was multiplied by 0.85 in order to calculate her goal weight for the experiment;
making the goal weight 199g. The first two trials were used to determine if the rat
responded quicker to a FR or a VR, and in to familiarize the rat with the type of
positive reinforcement that she would be rewarded with. The first trial in the

The spotted fallow doe was only one hundred paces from him, a shot so easy even
Merlin would have no problems. So when he missed it, the confused, yet critical
eye he gave the crossbow was laughable because it couldn t possibly have been his
fault. He had perfect form, had it full in his sights, and he shouldn t have missed
unless the crossbowwas faulty. Had he damaged it in some way on this hunt?
Arthur almost didn t hear Mithian s cheeky remark about his poor marksmanship
when her aim was true and her bolt hit the doe in its hindquarter. Her shot didn t
fell it, though, and there was very little blood to track. The king joined in the
search, combing the forest floor for a trail of blood they knew would be close by.
A less perceptive hunter would have missed the glint that caught his attention. Arthur
knelt in a comfortable squat and picked up a silver ring tied to a leather cord. When
he recognized the object, Guinevere s matching wedding band, the world closed in
around him, all the times he kissed her, held her, vexed her, laughed with her, and
every other moment in between spontaneously flash within his mind. The trail lost all
meaning.
What fickle chance had he of finding that ring, now discarded and forgotten on the
forest floor in the middle of nowhere? What was Fate trying to tell him? Stricken, he
looked to Merlin for answers he knew the servant wouldn t have.
Merlin kept the king s gaze only briefly, the guilt of constantly altering the destiny of
24. Psysics Behind Changes in Planetary Orbit
Physics behind changes in planetary orbit
April 07,2014
Oh no, a small field of asteroid the size of Pluto is heading towards Earth on a direct
collision course! The Earth and all of its inhabitants are now facing certain extinction.
What are the Earth s inhabitants to do? Is it possible to move the planet out of the
way in time? Fortunately for humanity, there are many ways to actually change the
Earth s orbit both plausible and unrealistic, but one must completely understand the
physics behind each option so that no mistakes are made and we fully avoid
suffering any consequences. First background information on our planet needed,
Earth has been around for 4.54 billion years, it has a mass of 5.98x10^24 kg, a
diameter of 12756 km, a velocity of about 67000 mph, and is about 149,597,890 km
away from the Sun. To most this doesn t sound like a simple task, not knowing the
trick is using Earth s orbit. An orbit is the gravitationally curved path of an object
around a point in space, for example the path of a planet around the center of a star
system, like in our Solar System (Encyclopedia). In order to change the orbit of a
planet, one must consider the difference forces that can influence the planet s orbit:
direct contact, gravitational assistance, solar sails, and the possible but not exactly
plausible forces.
The thought of an object coming on a collision with Earth is quite frightening, but
surprisingly it could lead to our salvation. If an object of equal mass

With the help of AR at the distribution centre, each driver will receive critical
information about a specific parcel by looking at it with their AR device. This
information could include the type of goods, parcel s weight, delivery address, and
whether it is fragile or requires specific positioning to avoid damage. The device
could then calculate the space requirements for each parcel in real time, scan for a
suitable empty space in the vehicle, and then indicate where the parcel should be

26. Mozart s Most Influential Composer Of The Classical Era
A prolific and most influential composer of the classical era, Mozart had been
destined for greatness from the moment he began looking on at his sister s lessons
as a toddler. Born in Salzburg Austria, to Leopold and Marie, young Mozart and his
sister were the only surviving children of 7. His father was a successful composer,
violinist and assistant concert master of the Salzburg Court. Both Mozart and his
sister were tutored by their father, a devoted, task oriented teacher. Young Mozart
soon excelled even above his father s teaching ability. At the green age of six, he
performed as a child prodigy in the royal courts at London, Paris, and Zurich. Mozart
spent his youth constantly on tour. These tour were financed through donors and
patrons. Through the years, and while abroad, Mozart met many accomplished
musicians such as Johann Christian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Joseph Haydn.

Is it truly possible for the design of a building to enhance the lives of those that use
it? Buildings are fundamental parts of our lives, they have such a huge impact on
the way we live, our quality of life and our behaviour. Some of the most important
buildings include our homes, offices, schools among many others we inhabit on a
daily basis. Even the buildings we don t inhabit often have great importance to our
lives places such as hospitals, airports and hotels impact our lives. The quality of
these buildings and the way they make there users feel are incredibly important
because they dramatically effect our mood and our experiences. Obviously architects
want to design buildings that are pushing the boundries of modern architecture,
however the clients should always be the most important part of the design process;
creating a space for them and their need and to improve upon their lives should be
the number one priority. Fuji Kindergarten Tezuka Architects The fuji kindergarten is

China: To Float or Not To Float?
International Finance
Executive Summary
On July 21, 2005, China revalued its decade long quasi fixed exchange rate of
approximately 8.28 yuan per U.S. dollar by 2.1% to 8.11. Simultaneously, the People
s Bank of China announced that the daily trading band of 0.3% against the dollar
would be maintained. Many analysts and economists believed that the real trade
weighted value of the renminbi was undervalued by up to 30% to 35%.
Companies that produce in China for the overseas market, retailers, and importers

Impact of growth in China as well as the rest of the world by the changes in
exchange rate policy As most observers took it for granted that the yuan was
undervalued, one specific study estimated yuan undervaluation against the U.S.
dollar of at least 35% based on the price level of goods and services in China
compared with those of its trade partners. As a result, there will probably be a
sharp appreciation of renminbi if Chinese government switches over from the fixed
exchange rate policy to flexible exchange rate policy. A common figure cited for a
20 to 25 percent move of renminbi would be devastating to China, which would
cause deflation, cut economic growth, cut off foreign direct investment and would
destabilize Asia. On the other hand, other low cost countries in Asia may benefit
from the shift of FDI and production of multinational companies. However, most
high wage countries like U.S. may still face a rising trade deficit because their
imports from other low wage countries would replace products made in China.
Sustainability of the current exchange rate policy
Many economists focusing on the strain the tightly managed exchange rate imposed
on China s economy agreed that China needed to institute more flexibility. They
noted that not only was the exchange rate expensive to sustain, but it contributed as
well as limited China s flexibility in responding to a
29. The Importance Of Citizenship In American History
1.How was citizenship historically defined, and how did that definition change over
time?
As stated in the film The House We Live In: Race The Power of an Illusion
Whiteness was key to citizenship. , in the United States. Being white was
subjectively understood, it did not necessarily indicate your ancestry. The Court
would make decisions about who was considered white or black under the law.
Congress had passed an act in 1790 declaring that only free white immigrants could
become naturalized citizens. Naturalization was extended to persons of African
descent after the Civil War. Even still white citizens were the only ones who had the
right to vote and participate in government duties as well as having access to better
jobs. You could only gain the full benefits of being an American citizen if you were
white. As stated by Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum and Carr (2015), In modern
societies, most people living within the borders of the political system are citizens
having common rights and duties and knowing themselves to be members of a
national community. (p.396). The definition of citizenship changed over time because
at first in order to be a naturalized citizen in the United States you had to be
characterized as white or black. But with so many immigrants coming into the
country of all different races, being defined as either white or black presented as a
problem. In 1857 (Dred Scott) African Americans were not considered citizens and
were not granted citizenship

Undoubtedly it is through the form and content of a text that authors communicate
universal values in light of the contextual experiences of their time
By utilising rhetoric, convincing speakers are able to portray the unjust human
experience of their context captivating the audience expounding values such as peace,
unity and justice. Anwar Sadat s Speech to the Israeli Knesset and Paul Keating s
Redfern Speech reinforce the significance of injustice within their societies,
prompting for social change. By engaging the audience through rhetoric devices these
speeches evoke a personal response from the audience, transforming the practices and
perspectives of their audience, bringing to the fore universal values in the light of
their present contextual discriminations.
Through intellectual and rhetoric qualities, intuitive responses are able to provoke
social change. In 1977 on the 20th of November Anwar Sadat s radical Speech to the
Israeli Knesset emphasised achieving justice on fair terms, ultimately establishing a
basis for international peace and Peace in the Middle East during the tense Arab
Israeli conflict. Sadat utilises various devices of repetition to reinforce the main
thematic concern of permanent peace and justice , expounding Logos through the

countries were highly religious Sadat utilises the Pathos of religion to unite
individuals, Muslims, Christians and Jews (who all)
32. The Birth Order And Personality
Birth Order, as in the order a child is born in their family, has been a popular topic
for researchers and the general public for decades. Originally it was claimed that
personality was determined by birth order and even now there are many stereotypes
of the firstborn being mature and driven while the youngest child is often described
as wild and rebellious (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Nowadays researchers find
birth orderand personality are unrelated. Whether or not intelligenceis related to birth
order is not completely clear as there have been many studies supporting both sides.
However, based on the newest research the prevailing attitude is that intelligence is
linked with birth order. Last of all an individual s health seems... Show more content

Furthermore any perceived link would only be visible when an individual is with
their family (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Both Birth order and personality: A
within family test using independent self reports from both firstborn and later born
siblings and Examining the effects of birth order on personality came to the same
conclusion. With both study s results supporting each other it can be said that an
individual s personality is unaffected by the order they are born within their family.
Intelligence
Intelligence is a fair amount easier to measure on account of IQ (Intelligence quotient
) tests. That said many researchers have conducted studies on a possible connection
between intelligence and birth order. What studies such as Examining the effects of
birth order on personality have found is that firstborns do slightly better on
intelligence tests (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015). To show how slight the
effect is a randomly picked firstborn had a 52% chance of having a higher IQ than a
randomly picked secondborn. (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015, pg 14225) IQ
tests are not the only way intelligence was measured in terms of linking it to birth
order, educational attainment was also used. Birth order and educational attainment:

33. Industrial Revolution Vs Second Industrialization
First, the Industrial Revolution effectively expanded the United States. Without the
Industrial Revolution, railroads would not have come to exist to the extent that they
did. Industrialization allowed the production of huge quantities of rails and of
rolling stock to go on those rails. When railroads spread out across the US,
eventually reaching the Pacific, the country s size effectively increased. Goods from
one part of the country could easily be brought to other parts of the country. This was
such an important step in creating a wonderful country.
Second, the Industrial Revolution made cities larger and more important. Before
industrialization, cities had been important as transportation hubs, but had not been
major economic engines. During the Industrial Revolution, cities grew as factories
grew faster and attracted workers. The cities also became more important to the
economy because they were the site at which valuable goods were being produced.

Many new products were devised, and important advances were made in the system
of mass production. Changes in industry were so great that the period after 1860 has
been called the Second Industrial Revolution. New scientific knowledge was applied
to industry as scientists and engineers unlocked the secrets of physics and chemistry.
Great new industries were founded on this scientific advance: steel, chemicals, and
petroleum benefited from new understandings of chemistry; breakthroughs in the
study of electricity and magnetism provided the basis for a large electrical industry.
These new industries were larger and more productive than any industries existing
before. Germany and the United States became the leaders, and by the end of the 19th

With less than an average of 10 inches of rain the entire year and with water being
the body s most vital resource having a clean water source is crucial. According to
the Encyclopedia Britannica, the evaporation rate is twice as its precipitation

and even more important that it is clean and potable. So storing water would be a
necessary thing and having tablet to make sure the water is clean. The second
item I would bring with me to the desert would be a sleeping bag. The temperature

Introduction: For my Mathematics Internal Assessment, I focused on how the

When I watch criminal shows, they always estimate a person s height by the way
blood is spread out and I wondered if the diameter of a droplet really did change
with the height where they were shot at, and if it was an effective method of
presuming the height where the victim was hit at the time they were shot. This
topic has always interested me as when I was younger, I wanted to be a forensic
scientist and the way they solved crimes always intrigued me. Specifically, the way
they conducted tests at the crime scene such as blood spatter analysis. My aim is to

This is because, I did not choose a droplet at random, but rather I would choose one

37. Narra Tor Rhyme Scheme
Along with visual aspects, rhyme, and rhythm Love and a Question also has a
specific form, language, and ideas. The form of the poem in relation to the rhyme
scheme is a simple 4 line which is an abcb rhyme scheme repeated throughout the
poem; Robert Frost does not stray away from the abcb rhyme scheme once during
Loveand a Question. The rhetoric in this poem expresses the speaker as a
descriptive individual. The narrator describes the stranger asking for shelter with
the eyes more than the lips, and he road this stranger travelled upon as a weary
road, such word choice implies the narrator is a very eloquent and thoughtful (21).
The narra tor sees the need in the stranger s eyes for shelter and notes the tiring
journey this stranger has been on thus far, this rhetoric also demonstrates specific
word choice of the narrator. The narra tor chose words like weary to express the
long and tiring journey the stranger has been on up till this point, the road he
traveled to get to the bridegroom s house was extensive and wearing (21). Another
example of word choice by the narrator is the word bore in the statement He bore a

Employee And...
Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement is made up of two words, Employee and engagement. In
simple words, it can be defined as an engagement or commitment of an employee
towards its organization. It is not entirely clear when the term engagement was first
used in relation to work, but generally the Gallup Organization is credited for coining
the term somewhere in the 1990s( Schaufeli, 2013 p.2).
An engaged employee can be easily distinguished from disengaged one by simply
asking a question. Ask an employee, what their company does? An engaged
employee will say we provide software services while a disengaged employee will
say, they/Company provides software services. It is evident from here that an
engaged employee is involved completely to achieve the goals of company, hence
will be more efficient and considers himself as a part of the success of company.
Various researches have also shown that engaged employees are much more efficient
than disengaged ones, which results in positives for an organisation.
An engaged employee feels involved in and excited about his work. Engaged
employees produce at high levels individually, and contribute to improved business
results. In fact, Gallup research shows employee engagement can be linked to
increased productivity and profitability, along with benefits such as decreased
turnover and absenteeism (Connolly, et al., 2013, p 48 52).An organisation with a
higher number of engaged employees is likely to be more effective, efficient

what it means to the functionality of the space craft. When asked by Mr Kranz
what is going on, Sy first takes on a Autocratic type role and explains the situation

direct conversation with the space craft. He is more concerned in evaluating the

of dedication to the project, not to say he did not care for the men in the craft, but
by his nature in this situation he was task driven. The lines of communication in the
control room appear to be very direct. When Mr. Kranz asks you a question, you

awakening. When the creature notices the amiable warmth and light showers that
satisfy the earth, it is almost as if his feelings go through photosynthesis; they are

This shows that meteorological conditions are able to affect a character s thoughts
and alter their feelings. As has been noted, Shelley accentuates the description of
spring to express the hope and renewal bestowed upon the creature by the
exemplifications of the weather. It is common throughout the novel that the existing
weather reflects, and sharply influences, Victor s mood(s). For example, the
atmosphere surrounding the hut is cold and harsh when the creature concludes his
tale and asks Victor to construct his companion. This creates meaning in the text
because much like these inhospitable conditions, Victor s heart is cold blooded and
calloused when it comes to the creature. Shelley s reason behind the freezing cold
temperature is not only to foreshadow Victor s response, but to demonstrate the
absence of color (warmth) and human sentimentality. In similar fashion, the pleasant
weather in the valley of Chamounix is able to alleviate some of the guilt ridden
weight placed upon Victor s shoulders from the outcome of Justine s trial. With clear
skies as their background, the pinnacles of the mountains and graceful flow of the
waterfalls are effective in establishing a sense of fearlessness within Victor; the
power of the topography
41. Chicken Egg Essay
Chicken and the Egg
Which came first the chicken or the egg? The chicken and the egg is one of life s
oldest questions. The days of fighting on the playgrounds of which one really came
first are over, but the question remains the same. Which came first the chicken or the
egg? Just look at the question, it is a very tough one. How can a chicken arrive
without an egg? How can an egg arrive without a chicken? Many people have varied
opinions on this, my opinion is that the chicken came first due to many ... Show more

With a little bit of look into this question I found some exciting information that
brings me closer to an answer to this difficult question. The American Journal of
Agriculture of Economics has postulated that the egg has arrived first. Within the
article they have done some mathematical experiments on this case and have rejected
the hypothesis that eggs do not cause chickens but that chickens cause eggs, so
plainly stateing that the egg was the first(25). So they concluded that the egg came
first. Walter Thurman and Mark Fisher provided this outcome after a series of
surveys on chickens and eggs around the agriculture market.
A forum at UCLA seems to offer more of an opposing view to this question.
Scientifically the idea that the chicken came first is more appealing. They tend to go
along with the theory of evolution provided from Darwin. UCLA students hypothesis
that since chickens are a bird species and that birds evolved from dinosaurs, the
chicken would have to come first on the timeline. I tend to agree
Thomas, 3 with this because it would seem awful hard for a chicken to raise it self
if it just came from an egg. Also I believe in the theory that the chicken came first
because of a more obvious aspect. If you were to look at humans, we also come
from an egg, even though it is not quite like the egg chickens come from we come
from an

Final Project
Roe v. Wade and Its Impact on American Society Few Supreme Court decisions
have stirred up as much controversy, vitriolic debate, and even violence as the one
delivered in Roe v. Wade in 1973. Four decades later, it remains a touchstone for the
culture wars in the United States and a pivot upon which much of American politics
turns. In fact, the authors of Roe v. Wade: The Abortion Rights Controversy in
American History state that even today, the case (and its companion cases) remains
the most divisive and controversial judicial decision of the twentieth century (3).
Although it is a landmark case in itself, its continuing influence on American law and
politics proves that its legacy lives on far beyond its formal resolution in a court of
law. Essentially, the most important points are that the cause of the case s complexity
and drama is the legal relationship between men and women that the ruling mirrored
and compounded, the way the medical profession was impacted, and the political
significance that the issue still holds presently. One cannot understand what Roe v.
Wade meant to women or to men without understanding how abortion became illegal,
and that story begins in the nineteenth century. In 1821, Connecticut became the first
state to explicitly criminalize abortion. The primary purpose of this law was to spell
out the conditions under which the state could prosecute an abortionist for an
abortion. The
43. The Lynchings In Duluth Summary
Over all this book was very interesting to read. The Lynchings in Duluth has a
strong tie to this course because of the racial issues that it covers and the ethical
issues that it mentions are interesting to think about as well. The book did a great
job of making me think about things differently because it gave a solid impartial
report from both sides of the story thus allowing the reader to come to their own
conclusions about who was in the wrong and what they would have done were
they in the characters shoes. I have no way of judging what I would do if I were in
the same situation as all of the people involved, I can say that if I were one of the
policeofficers involved I would have try my best to protect the men in my custody
but I don t
44. Let It Not Be Like Hog Poem Analysis
If we must die let it not be like hogs The simile let it not be like hog motivates the
audience to die with dignity, it does this by implanting the thought of dying like a
hog, since hogs often die a brutal and cruel death this simile motivates the audience
to die a righteous death. This is a powerful line as it states the idea of the poem and
sets the scene for the audience. This line is the beginning of an extended metaphor.
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, This line (consisting of the metaphor
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot ) adds effect to the simile in line one, as it
compares the same qualities. Hogs are often slaughtered in an inglorious spot (such as

The metaphor is meant to give the audience something to compare the situation to
and makes the audience empathetic towards the situation. If we must die oh, let us
nobly die, Ms McKay uses repetition and repeats the title/conditional statement If we
must die , this makes sure that the audience s attention does not get drawn away
from the thesis. McKay uses onomatopoeia when he says oh midline, it provides the
line with a sense of human connection and makes the line more dramatic. When he
says let us nobly die he pleads with the audience to let him and his people die with
dignity and to the African Americans to stand up and earn their rights. So that our
precious blood may not be shed The use of the word precious reminds the audience
that the African American s blood is important and that their lives should not be lost
for an unworthy cause. This line saddens the audience and gives them a true insight
to the situation. In vain; then even the monsters we defy The is the turning point of
the poem, the poet has outlined the situation and now is beginning to motivate the
audience to the overall goal of standing up for their rights and to die with dignity.
The semicolon is used to separate the two clauses. The poet uses the metaphor then
the monsters we defy as a way of comparing monsters and one s fears, this metaphor
provides starts to implant the audience with the idea of an uprising and motivation.

45. Nature Related Metaphors In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley is one of the well known writers in the era of the Romantics who
wrote a famous novel called Frankenstein. One of Shelley s features is using the
nature as a source of inspiration and relaxation as in the case of her novel
Frankenstein. Shelley uses the nature as a fuel for energy for the main character
Victor Frankensteinand that what made him consistently go back to nature seeking
for relaxation and spiritual comfort after the death of his dearest friends and family.
Shelley uses many nature related metaphors to describe many events from
Frankenstein childhood:
I feel pleasure in dwelling on the recollections of childhood, before misfortune had
tainted my mind, and changed its bright visions of extensive usefulness into gloomy

He starts to pay attention to the things that reminds him of her like the vision of the
fish and pebbles she used to make him happy. Afterwards, he dreams of nature:
What became of me? I know not; I lost sensation, and chains and darkness were the
only objects that pressed upon me. Sometimes, indeed, I dreamt that I wandered in
flowery meadows and pleasant vales with the friends of my youth . . .(Volume III,
Chapter 23)
To conclude, in this novel nature appears to be the most significant element that
always cheers Victor s up and keeps him healthy and sanity. The setting of nature
becomes fundamental since it is the only place that gives the protagonist comfort.
Moreover, Victor has obsession on nature and his obsession is inane because he
ignores all the people to be isolated in nature; perhaps this is one of Victor s flaws or
personality. Furthermore, being stupid and smart as in the case of Victor
Frankenstein might be natural for Frankenstein to be drawn to compulsive tendency.
Finally, Shelley uses excessive elements of nature in her novel as a source
46. The Godfather the Movie Essay
The Godfather the Movie
THE GODFATHER, made in 1974, details the Corleone crime family in Manhattan
during the mid 1930s. The Don, Vito Corleone, played by Marlon Brando, leads his
organization against a relentless narcotics push by a rival family, the Sollozzos.
Vito Caleone does not want anything to do with drugs because he believes they will
be the downfall of the Mafia. The story, covering a ten year time period, offers a
rich tapestry of Mafia life from the inside, drawing the audience into witnessing the
transfer of power within a close knit family

Special effects play a huge roll in modern day films; they are mainly used to grab
the attention of the audience. In the making of THE GODFATHER, very few special
effects were used. The director, Francis Ford Coppola was able to capture the
audience s attention with a terrific cast, and a captivating story line. The movie
explores many aspects of real life such as family responsibility, a father s legacy, the
need to earn respect and the corrupting influence of power. These are some of the
ingredients combined in Francis Ford Coppola s masterpiece. The movie ran close to
three hours and every scene was better then the last; not boring the viewer throughout
the entire performance.
Throughout the film, Michael Corleone played brilliantly by Al Pacino, experiences a
major change in his way of thinking. Michael changes from believing that what his
family does is wrong, to believing that his family s crimes are a necessary evil. He
begins by insisting to his girlfriend that his family s crimes belong to his family, not
to him. He was not involved in the business and did not want anything to do with it.
By the end of the movie, most of the Corleone family have been murdered. Michael
organizes the execution of several people within the other crime families as the
Corleon family s new Don, having reasoned that these murders are necessary. Feeling
that he must follow in his father s footsteps he transforms from an innocent bystander
to the central manipulator.
47. The Theory Of Classical Conditioning
In this assignment I will be looking at the Behaviourist perspective with Ivan Pavlov
s (1902) theory about classical conditioning. I will be discussing how I have used
human development and learning perspectives in my placement to support young
people in their personal and social development with providing a case study about
them. I will be writing about how the theory demonstrates effective youth and
community work practice including the five pillars of youth work. Behaviourists
look at behaviour as a response to a certain event. They think our behaviour is
concluded by our surroundings which produces stimuli to we respond, and the
situations we have been in the past causes us to respond to stimuli in certain ways.
Classical conditioningis one of the varieties of behaviourism. A psychologist called
Ivan Pavlov(1902) looked at the way dog salivate when being fed. He thought that
there are some things that dogs do not need to learn and that dogs do not been to
salivate whenever they see food. The motion of the dog salivating was compelled into
the dogs mind. A Behaviourist would label this as an unconditional response which is
a reaction that required no form of learning. The unconditioned stimulus is the food
and the unconditioned response is when the dog salivates. For humans, there are
techniques that are used that involve classical conditioning. For example, a teacher
can make the learning environment positive for a class full of students to let them
overcome their

Hinge s new matchmaking app is kind of weird
( removed HTML )
The online dating world just got a little more weird and interesting. Hinge is a dating
app, one of many that are out there, but that s not what s making headlines. What s
making headlines is Hinge s new app, which is called Hinge Matchmaker.
What is Hinge Matchmaker?
Hinge Matchmaker is a separate Hinge app. It essentially allows you to match up
your friends for a date. You download the Matchmaker app, and then see which of
your friends are on Hinge. You can then match friends together, and they ll get a
message saying that you think the two of them would be good together. If one of
your friends isn t on Hinge that you think would connect with another one of your
friends, you can invite your friend to join. Hinge ... Show more content on

For some the allure of Hinge Matchmaker is twofold: you can feel like you re part of
the dating game again, and you can get into your friend s business by helping him or
her find love.
( removed HTML )
What are the downsides about this app?
The app is weird though because some friends, one would assume, don t want your
opinion or your help in finding someone to date. It can also cause some friction in
friendships. What if your friend selects someone for you and you don t like him or
her, and don t even give him or her a chance? Or what if you start dating the friend
of your friend and then you guys break up. Does that make it hard on your friend or
put a strain on your relationship? There are so many potential pitfalls with this app
that could just spell disaster for your friendship.
( removed HTML )
Is the app here to stay?
Currently, the app is in beta testing, and it s only going to be available for a little
while (at least that s the current information). It s available on iOS. We ll have to
see if it takes off or if too many people find it weird.

The Tempest
Final Paper
Caliban the Mystery, Even to This Day. Many times, Shakespeare refers to Caliban
from The Tempest as a natural man . What did that mean to him, to be a natural man?
There are many reasons why Shakespeare would have called him that, including the
fact that he just looked completely different than the rest of the characters in The
Tempest. He was black and dirty, he looked like a savage. Far more different then the
other characters. By the end of the play, Caliban s character seems a lot less
important. Even though his role as a character starts to fade, he had a purpose in the
play. He raised many questions in the play, Caliban made us see what we were
blatantly ignoring. As stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caliban was portrayed as such a repulsive man that he s overlooked for the true
meaning of himself. Many readers would just assume he is a savage and nothing
more. Shakespeare does an excellent job of making us understand the characters
and relate to them, he shows us Caliban from a negative perspective, that s actually
most times misinterpreted. Caliban s character also reveals the social hierarchy of
The Tempest and the ongoing situations in Shakespeare s era. This set up was
derived from long traditions that have been carried from Shakespeare s time.
Caliban was seen as a natural man which could have meant the bottom of the
bottom, lowest of the low. Any of these. He was the mystery of the play. Many
people weren t sure if Caliban was either a monster or a victim of colonialism.
Even though he had much fewer lines then Prospero, Caliban was the focus of
many readers interest, often with an importance far better than his actual presence
in the play. Caliban was often referred as the monster , many great critics say that
Caliban s name is an anagram or at least a play on the word, Cannibal . A term
derived from carib which became a European term used to describe flesh eaters. If
this was the case, then Caliban s name can be associated with the kinds of savage
man eaters that Europeans were reading about in travel literature when Shakespeare
wrote this play. It is also possible that Caliban s name may be a play on the
50. Heuristics And Systematic Decision Errors
Heuristics and systematic decision errors are made even in extremely large or
important purchases. A year ago, my sister and her husband moved to Houston from
New York City and decided to purchase their first house. Having never lived in
Houston, or purchased a house, they had very little inherent knowledge about the
local real estate market or experience with what their lifestyle was going to be. Their
decisions therefore would be based almost entirely on published data and first hand
house visits.
Jennifer and Jimmy are both medical doctors, eminently rational and meticulous
about their finances, their careers, and life planning. When deciding which medical
residency programs to apply to, a 100 row spreadsheet was constructed, detailing and
weighting each desirability factor. They trusted the same analytical approach with
their house purchase decision; for the purposes of this discussion I ve condensed
their table as follows:
House A
House B
Commute Time
45 minutes
10 minutes
Quality of Space
High
Medium
Relative Price
200,000
200,000
While Jennifer and Jimmy recognized that the daily Commute Time was an important
attribute, it ended up being severely underweighted in their final decision. Having
just moved from New York City, neither had ever dealt with traffic or extended
highway driving on a regular basis. While it was obvious that a 10 minute commute
is quantitatively better than a 45 minute one, the qualitative difference to happiness
and lifestyle was very hard for
