Writing an essay on the topic "Apa Sample Essay Paper" can be quite challenging, as it requires a
deep understanding of the APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is commonly
used for academic writing. The APA style has specific guidelines for formatting, citations, and
referencing, and adhering to these rules can be intricate.
To start with, you need to have a solid grasp of the APA formatting rules, including the correct
structure of the title page, abstract, body paragraphs, and references. Additionally, proper
citation of sources within the text and compiling an accurate reference list according to APA
standards is essential. This involves understanding how to cite various sources such as books,
journal articles, and online resources.
Moreover, crafting a compelling essay requires thorough research and analysis. You need to
gather relevant information, critically evaluate sources, and present a coherent argument or

How Is The Epigraph Used In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald uses The Great Gatsby to discuss obsessive tragic love, and
appearance versus reality. These ideas are first presented to the reader in the
opening epigraph which is a quotation taken from, This Side of Paradise, another
novel by Fitzgerald,: Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her; / If you can
bounce high, bounce for her too, / Till she cry Lover, gold hatted, high bouncing
lover, / I must have you! . The Great Gatsbyfollows Gatsby s journey to win back
Daisy, through the eyes of the narrator, Nick Carraway. Fitzgerald uses the opening
epigraph to introduce the idea that Gatsby changes himself so that Daisy will notice
him. This change and obsession with Daisy is what eventually leads to Gatsby s
demise. The opening epigraph sets the tone for the remainder of the book, and readers
can see many connections between the epigraph and Gatsby s actions throughout the
book.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using this quote, Fitzgerald presents the theme of changing yourself. The quote is
saying, if you know of something that will catch her attention, or move her , then you
should do it, or wear it. If you have a specific skill, which in this case is bouncing
high, then you should show her that skill. The quote also says, that you should
continue to do these things until you catch her attention, and you are all that she
wants. The epigraph is presenting the idea that Jay Gatsby changes himself, becomes
rich, and throws elaborate parties, all in hopes of wooing
The Mystery Of Crime Fiction
INTRODUCTION Crime fiction is a genre of literature that has been well
distinguished and unparalleled for generations due to the intrigue readers experience
throughout the culminating plot. Suspense accumulates as the protagonist and reader
alike must process the crimes and interpret all the evidence presented so an apt
denouement can resolve who has committed the murder and what their motives are.
As the investigation progresses, conflicts inevitably arise and pose adversity for the
protagonist as they must determine if their inclinations are correct or their focus has
been leading them astray in the process. Uncertainty plagues the mind of those who
are emotionally and professionally invested with the case. This aspect has always
been engaging because the internal conflicts the protagonist faces increases the drama
of these investigations as no one seems to have any answers, yet they are all suspects.
The point of stagnation for the investigator often forces them to reinterpret and
validate all the evidence, while ruling out any implausible instances. After this state of
confusion and reevaluation, a break in the case offers enough of a reprieve for the
investigation to deviate from the path of circumlocution. Personally, the most
profound component that peaks my interest in an investigative novel is the internal
strife within the protagonist that incites further confusion and conflicting ideas. The
significance of any imperfections within the lead character is that the
Software Patent Protection Research Paper
Software patentability has been a controversial debate for a long time. Some
countries, such as the United States broadly allow software patents. Meanwhile, in
most countries, such as Europe and the United Kingdom, patentability of software is
on an ad hoc basis, where the certain tests and approaches are adopted and shifted
over time. The more pressing question therefore relates to the scope to be accorded to
software patents.
Accordingly, this essay examines the boundaries within which software patents are
granted under the jurisdiction of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office (
EPO ) and the United Kingdom. For this purpose, in addition to the introduction and
conclusion, with respect to each jurisdiction, the essay first ... Show more content on

1.2Observations
1.2.1Narrow scope of patent protection for software
As referred to in section 2.1, due to the excluded subject matter, there is a
misconception that software is not patentable in Europe. However, in practice, the
EPO has granted thousands of software patents since its formulation. Scholars assess
that the scope of patent protection for software interpreted by the Boards of Appeals
is fairly limited.
Nevertheless, narrow or broad are the abstract concepts, which should be evaluated
in conjunction with the benefits and costs of software patents. Therefore, it is
relevant to examine the reasons for opening or closing door for software patents to
take a stand in assessing how broad or narrow the scope of patent protection should
be.
Some commentators argue that the optimal scope should be broad for the reasons set
out below.
First, given that copyright does not protect technical innovation and ideas of software,
patent which protects such aspect may give satisfaction to the inventor for his hard
work and intellect.
Second, software patents will stimulate investment and incentives to invent because
details of the invention are available to the public. As recognized by the EPO, it will
promote the innovation of the software industry.
Some researchers also predict that European patent law will follow the lead of the
United States in going through three phases: (i) first doubted; (ii)
Reflection About Christianity
This composition will give you information on why I chose the topic Christianity.
What is compelling about this issue and why is it important in the study of religion?
This assignment and the content within it will explain the significance of Christianity
across all religions studied. The information in this composition will show in what
ways Christianityis significant for religious beliefs. I will give you, the reader an
example of how this religion, have a profound effect on my life, and the area I
reside. What impact does Christianity have on the everyday lives of people who
practice Christianity in my area? The Holy Trinityis the doctrine of Christianity
believes God the Father, the Son JesusChrist and the Holy Spirit is one, but it s the
underlying belief for Christians because it s an intricate part of Christianity. It s my
opinion, it s the basic principles of Christians obedience and faith. It inspires
significant principles about connection and commonality. (Fisher, 2017) Christianity
is based on the life, teachings, death, and the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus lived about
2,000 years ago in the Roman occupied Palestine. He taught for three years and was
crucified by the Roman government on charges of sedition. Since then his death is
celebrated throughout the world since the sixth century and has been used as a major
point from which society is measured.
Political Claims of Advancement of Women
Addressing a group of teachers in Sultanpur on Tuesday night, Bharatiya Janata Party
candidate Varun Gandhi had said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is
doing good work through his self help groups (SHG) for advancement of women in
Amethi. While this exchange of words between bigwigs in Gandhi family is catching
an attention of national media ahead of 16th general elections, the plight of SHG
members in Chennai signifies the reality which is far away from these political
claims of advancement of women through SHGs.
With one of the groups in our federation, bank did not sanction the loan even after the
rating was done four months ago. There was a political influence. It has become usual
story now, complains Bhuwaneshwari, animator of SHG called money plant situated
in North Chennai.
Some members need the money on emergency basis considering the health and other
family problems. They become helpless. It is their savings which they are finding
difficult to get back when in need, she adds.

Gamma Camera Research Paper
The main imaging equipment in nuclear medicine is gamma camera.
A gamma Camera detects gamma rays emitted by a radiopharmaceutical in the patient
s body. The camera reveals the distribution of radioactive material in a patient and this
distribution is determined by the uptake of radiopharmaceutical, which is dependent
on the function of the body. For example, in bone scan, technetium 99 m is injected
into the patient s body, this travels through the blood, and it s metabolised and
accumulated in the body.
The patient will lay on under the gamma camera. Then the gamma rays will be
emitted from the body as a result from the radiotracer, which travel out of the body in
all the directions.
Unlike visible light, gamma ray cannot be focused to
Bucho s Use Of Cinematography In Desperado
Throughout Desperado cinematography is exhibited in a multitude of various ways
that limits the percentage of the diegesis that is shown. It is the deciding factor that
determines what will and what will not be in the film. The aspects of cinematography
are utilized in constructing our emotions of the film, directing our focus, and in
creating the entirety of the space.
The camera is the main element in cinematography that directs our attention in
different scenes. For example, in the beginning of the film we see Bucemi enter a
bar. As he tells the story of the unknown man who killed everyone in the other bar,
the camera goes back and forth to Bucemi s and the bartender s face. This is done
so that the auidience s attention is mainly on their facial expressions as the story is
being told. Another example is when the main character tells Carolina that Bucho s
men killed the women he loved and shot him in the hand. In this scene, a close up
distance is used to show only the mariachi s face. That way our concertation is solely
on his face and the emotions that are displayed. ... Show more content on

For example, there is a long shot at the end of the movie that shows the mariachi
walking and the truck that they drove approaching. The truck stops in front of him
and the audience gets a close up of Carolina s face. This shapes the audience s
feelings in a way in that causes them to feel satisfied that the mariachi and the girl
will stay together. Another example is when Bucemi informs the bartender of what
he experienced in the other bar. There is a flashback of the event that shows the
mariachi walking into the bar. A shadow is casted over his face which alludes to his
menacing and threating character. This causes the audience to feel that he is

Applications of Microbial Bioremediation Essay
Microorganisms are present almost everywhere in the world both in living and non
living systems. Whenever the microorganisms are present close to some toxins or
contaminants, they help in their removal or sequestration in one way or the other and
thereby clean up the environment. These special classes of microorganisms are
considered very important for the environment as they considered as Natural
Cleansers of the ecosystem.
Microbial bioremediation can be seen happening almost anywhere such as soil,
water, sludge, sewage, inside plants and animals, in agricultural fields and so on. In
other words we can say that bioremediation may occur in a vast range of
surroundings depending upon the availability of suitable microbes. This property ...

The gram positive bacteria play an important role in sequestration of these heavy
metals from human body.
However, it may be noted that these microorganisms carry out Detoxication and NOT
Detoxification . Detoxification can be defined as the phenomenon of removal of
harmful drugs, mutagens and other toxic agents from the body; whereas,
Detoxication is the process of preventing the entry of harmful substances into the
body (Jin et al. 2009).
Detoxication occurs primarily in the intestine, liver and kidney where the
microorganism sequester the harmful substances before they reach the target tissues
and cause damage, either fatal or non fatal (Berhane et al. 1994). So it can thus be
concluded that gram positive bacteria and even the probiotic bacteria have a very
important role in the binding of heavy metals and thereby protecting the body.
4.1 Mechanism of Removal And Sequestration Of Heavy Metals
4.1.1 Removal of Arsenic
Arsenic is a highly toxic element and a very common contaminant now a days. It
is present in earth s crust, in clay and also in sulphur rich regions (Henker 2009). It
is colourless, tasteless and odourless (Ahsan et al. 2000). It is a very common
contaminant of ground water. When this water is consumed for drinking then it may
cause lung disorders, kidney failures, bladder and skin cancer. Therefore, its
presence poses a serious life threat to humans as well as other animals also.
Due to this reason, removal of arsenic
Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur The Tale Of Launcelot

Morte Darthur : A research paper for English 325 In Thomas Malory s Morte
Darthur the tale of Launcelot and Guinevere s betrayal and the tragedy that ensues is
the prevailing end of the arthurian legend. Malory writing as a prisoner accused of
treason took vested interest in the betrayal of Arthur by Guinevereand one of his most
popular knights. Most likely due to the fact that Malory saw himself and hope for
mercy in the character Launcelot and made that evident in the story he
wrote.Ultimately Malory wrote the Morte to absolve himself of wrongdoing, but it
is also rife of subtle criticisms of royalty. Specifically their incompetence, lust for
power and abuse of it, and how the fighting class, the one Malory belongs too pays the

The abuse of power perpetuated by monarch s and how that justification use started
wars also makes its way into Malory s writing. Despite the affair being well known
as long as it wasn t proven Arthur felt no obligation to pursue either of the lovers
for treason and infidelity. Once the cat is out of the bag however and Guinevere is
prepared for the stake is when Launcelot swoops in to save the day and establish
himself as the hero of this story. While Arthur had every legal right to burn
Guinevere at the stake for treason the fact that she avoided punishment at all is
significant to Malory s idea that the monarchy abuses their power because they are
ultimately the judge jury and executioner as well the body government in which
all laws must be approved by. The ridiculousness of laws against treason were
overwhelming in the time Malory was writing. Any crime that touched upon the
king or the welfare of the kingdom in anyway even remotely could thus be defined
as treason (Muckerheide, 49) the definition of treason was insanely broad and as
Muckerheide points out It was easier to get a conviction for treason than any of the
more precisely defined felonies (Muckerheide, 49). This idea that the arm of the law

Honor Courage And Commitment In The Military
My time in the military has taught a thing or two about Honor, Courage, and
Commitment. I believe it ties into the results of my VIA character profile, and the
top five that I chose really is who I am as a person, and how I always strive for
every day. Ever since I decided to sign my life away to serve my country, it
definitely took a whole lot of courage or in this case bravery apparently one of my
strong characteristics. August 2004 was the date when I had to learn to be brave;
even though my father was in the service at the time he never told me what it was
all about to be in his shoes. My father always told me son you have to figure it out
and find out for yourself , at the time I just thought it was something secret he couldn

it would be fitting that Judgement would be a high character point for me. I really
had to think things through before I acted upon them, or it would sometimes come
back to bight me in the long run. When I got to my first command I did not learn
what leadership was till I actually strived to become one. For over a year and a half I
was always just a follower, doing what I was told and never really branching off or
blazing my own path. I achieved many promotions since then, now I don t know
who said it first but my higher ups always preached saying leaders lead from the
front not from the back and I agree. I learned how interact with different types of
people with many different backgrounds, so having social intelligence is key to
being able to engage with people from different walks of life. I had learned how
people reacted to certain things I said allowing me to make changes in how I
approached them with issues and or work related

Essay on Florianne by Daniel Woodrell
A horrific event may change life entirely. Even worse, an unsolved mystery regarding
a loved one may lead to despair and restrain a person from moving on. While knowing
the truth may bring a feeling of closure, inquietude and uneasiness may ensue
uncertainty. The short storyFlorianne, written by Daniel Woodrell, tells about a father
whose entire life revolves around the mysterious disappearance of his daughter. Even
eleven years after she vanished he still hasn t begun to move on. Throughout the story
the reader may interpret the disappearance with different approaches. One may either
assume that the daughter was kidnapped, or that she ran away herself from her home
and the small town life. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Florianne comes from the word flora, which is the Latin word for flower. It s
derived from the word flos, with the meaning flower or blossom.. In the story there
s described a change in Florianne s character and behavior. The narrator says ... the
girl ran to fat for so long, had a roly poly figure until the year before she went
gone...That meant so much to her, to finally have a figure clothes looked good on
(page 42, lines 4 10). Florianne blossomed before she vanished. Henry also blames
Florianne s weight gain on her mother while describing her figure as a roly poly
figure. He s to some extent (14:6) bullied Florianne and just a year before she
disappeared she found the strength and determination to change her body and her
life. This course of action can be interpreted as... She gains control over her life and
in contrast to her father s self pity, she s going to take action over her fate, just like
her mother did.
Daniel Woodrell succeeds in creating a short story which forces the reader to
consider different scenarios. Paranoia and obsession are luring beneath the surface
of a protagonist portrayed as a desperate father unable to move on. Daniel Woodrell
shows how a tragic event may consume a person as well as leave said person in
denial and without the opportunity to proceed. And while the upfront possibility that
the father is true in his assumption that his daughter was
Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper
Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related
Macular Degeneration Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading
cause of blindness for people 60 years of age and older in the developed world.
Vision loss is caused by the destruction of the cone photoreceptors, located in the
macula, that are responsible for color/central vision. The underlying cause of
AMD is the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located just below
the photoreceptors, known as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main
role of the RPE is to maintain the function of the photoreceptor layer by secreting
nutrients, absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during the visual cycle.
As a person ages the efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up
of toxic by products. These toxic build ups, known as drusens, result in the
separation and death of the photoreceptor and RPE layers. AMD is speculated to
result from as many as 20 different genetic mutations and as a result there is no
known cure for the disease (CITE), but recent advances in stem cell therapy is a
hopeful step in the right direction.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These capabilities make stem cells the precursor to all of the body tissues found in an
organism. There are many different stem cells found in humans. The biggest
distinction between them is their relative abilities to produce different tissues in the
body, known as potency. For example, embryonic stem cells (ESC) are pluripotent
and capable of differentiating into all of the tissue of the body, while hematopoietic
stem cells (HSC) an adult stem cell are multipotent and only able to differentiate into
the lymphoid and myeloid blood

Each president of the United States of America has left a legacy, some more notable
than others. I believe Abraham Lincoln was the best American president. A Lot of
people say that anybody can grow up to be a President. But not anybody is cut out to

and driven, to run for the job. It takes talent, character, and integrity, to be able to
withstand the pressures of this Herculean task.

Well for the majority of us, it s not. Let s take a look at how president Abraham
Lincoln reacted to this. After having done some research on this aspect, Abraham
Lincoln was confident enough to be humble to not feel the need to bluster or
dominate, but to be sufficiently sure of one s own judgment and self worth to
really listen. A perfect example of trust, loyalty, and respect is revealed in a letter
to Ulysses Grant. Lincoln writes, I now wish to make the personal
acknowledgment that you were right, and I was wrong. How many of us, is brave
enough to write our wrongs? Another example was on February 11, 1861, when
Lincoln departed from Springfield to assume the presidency in March. At a railroad
station he says his emotional farewell: My friends No one, not in my situation, can

Extreme cold will result in freezing rivers and ice jams. When these thaw out it will
result in flooding. No matter where the freezing takes place, the after effect will
always cause flooding which will have adverse effects on crops and vegetation.
Extreme cold can cause frostbite and hypothermia. Strong winds along with extreme
cold makes the conditions feel a lot worst. The high winds take away bod heat,
making the body feel cold a lot faster. According to the New York State Climate
Office, extreme cold events in New York State occur regularly and are most common
between October and March. The northern states are the areas that are most
susceptible to extreme temperatures. This is an acceptable risk. Despite the cold

The speaker is wronged in his/her knowledge as a result of the prejudiceemployed

testimonial injustices. More specifically, I argue that Fricker overlooked a... Show

An example of a credibility deficit would be a professor at a university receiving
less credibility and respect of his knowledge due to his accent. His accent could
lead the students to believe he isn t capable to be someone who holds much
knowledge. The students doing so wrongs the professor, and he is receiving
testimonial injustice. This type of testimonial injustice is systemic and not
justified as the professor is assumed to have this job because he is properly
qualified for the position. This example is systemic because it contains a
connection with a common prejudice that occurs often in society. People with
accents often face prejudice and receive a credibility deficit as a result. According
to Fricker, testimonial injustices occur when identity power is in play. Identity
power is whenever there is an operation of power with shared concepts of social
identities. An example Fricker uses of active identity power is a man silencing a
woman with a joke about her in The Talented Mr. Ripley. There are two types of
operations of power discussed by Fricker. An example of passive identity power is a
woman being silenced simply because she is a woman and feeling like she shouldn
t speak out. Identity power can work in a positive manner or a negative manner. An
example of identity power working positively would be a group of people voting
because it s a common practice in their social group. Identity power working
negatively would be a group of
Was Coriolanus Responsible For His Own Fate
Coriolanus was responsible for his own fate. Coriolanus was too proud which was
part of the reason that he was killed. Also, Coriolanus did not care about the people
s wants and needs; something that came back in the form of his fate. On the
flipside, Coriolanus may not have been responsible for his own fate because
Sicinius and Brutus turned the people against him. Coriolanus was responsible for
his own fate because he was too proud which made the people of Rome hate him.
Sicinius remarked that Coriolanus was proud when Sicinius said, Was ever man so
proud as is this Martius? (Shakespeare I.1.250) Also, Brutus and Sicinius
commented that, Brutus: He s poor in no one fault, but stored with all. Sicinius:
Especially in pride. (Shakespeare II.1. 17 18) Another time in which Coriolanus
displayed his pride is in Act II, Scene 3 when Coriolanus refused to show his battle
wounds. Coriolanus felt that it would be degrading and humiliating to show his
wounds, so he would not do it even though showing them would have made him
consul and not showing them would have prevented him from becoming consul.
Coriolanus pride was damaged when he was banished from Rome. Since his pride
was hurt, Coriolanus wanted to get revenge on the Roman people, so he went to...

Brutus told the people: Get you hence instantly, and tell those friends they have
chose a consul that will from them take their liberties. (Shakespeare II.3.213 215)
Here Brutus and Sicinius were trying to make Coriolanus appear worse than he
really is. However, it can be assumed that the people would have turned against him
later on because Coriolanus did not have the people s best interests at heart. So
although Brutus and Sicinius were partly responsible for Coriolanus fate, Coriolanus
most likely would have been killed in some other way even if they hadn t
Rosie Kang s Narrative-She Doesn T Work
If there was anything that Rosie Kang was set on that evening, it was that there
was absolutely nothing in the universe that mini cupcakes couldn t fix. While her
stress levels weren t any higher than usual, she was fretful enough to keep nosing
around the snacks table for a good ten minutes, looking for something to quell the
pit in her stomach. The refreshment table was going to be her best friend for the
night, she could already feel it. It wasn t that she didn t like her table in fact,
considering she got to drag Robyn out of her shell and gush over Frankie s totally
hot get up all night, it was a total dream. No, it was the complete idleness that threw
her for a loop; the prospect of not working at all and actually enjoying herself for a
night seemed wonderful, but like a total impossibility. Rosie pursed her lips, lost in
her thoughts as she tossed another lining into one of the many conveniently

Chesterfield Letter To His Son Analysis
In Chesterfield s heartfelt letter to his young son overseas, he proclaims his
feelings and offers moral and mental advice as a friend rather than as a father. The
values he explains within the letter enhance his desire for a willingness and
acceptance of any truth and advice given to his boy, an implement concerning
work ethics, and an extended importance with education. By using direct language,
pathos, and rhetorical questions, he describes his ideal goals and aspirations for
his son. Using direct language, he enhances the desire for acceptance of any truths
and advice offered to him. Stating a stereotypical fact that advice is normally
unwelcomed when offered by an adult fully displays how Chesterfield is exhibiting
that he knows his son is one of those stereotypes. Trying to gain comfort and his
longing for his son to actually listen and take everything seriously, Chesterfield
states, Do not think that I mean to dictate as a parent; I only mean to advise as a
friend.. , which presents the letter as a comfortable conversation to undertake. Direct
language plays a very important role in this letter by explicitly saying... Show more

Hinduism And The Caste System In Post-India
In post India, Nehru and his government attempted to raise the social status of the
Untouchables with the First Five Year plan in 1960. However, it was not as
effective as at that time, the Indian society was rigid with the caste system
continuing to be prevalent in every sector of society. Each member of caste system
cannot dine or wear the same clothes as that of the other caste group and the
marriage across caste system are considered as taboo. Especially for the dalits such
as Varna, they could not go to school not were they provided with basic hygiene that
other caste groups enjoy. Many assume that the caste system is intrinsic to the

Nadkarni, the caste system is not inherent to Hinduism and therefore not a factor in
development of the caste system. According to him, Hinduism had no relationship
with caste system because for the first half of history of Hinduism, which starts from
4000 B.C., there was no evidence of caste system. The mention of caste system first
appears in the text of tenth mandala of Rg Veda, in two verses of Purusha Sukta.
There are several scholars that support the idea that there was no varna system in
vedic society. Thus, it means that unlike the notion that caste system is supported by
Hinduism, for a long time the caste system was nonexistent in Hinduism. In addition,
there were some Hindu opposition to the caste system as it can be seen from the
Bhaki Movement. The leader of the movement, Basaveshwara, strongly opposed the
caste system as in the Ancient Hindu scriptures, Chapter 34 volume 4 of
Mahabharata, supported the idea of humanitarianism and liberalism and upheld the
character and worth of the person rather than based on birth. These reveal that
Hinduism is not the cause of the caste system in India but the advent of Aryans and
the merits to society prevailed the caste system in
Ethics And Ethical Standards For School Counselors
In Introduction to Counseling, students were given copies of the ACA Code of
Ethics and Ethical Standards for School Counselors. The ACA code of Ethics was
updated in 2014 with significant changes. One of the improvements was to the
preface of the code; including how human development, diversity and
multiculturalism, social justice, the integrity of the counselor child relationship, and
competency align further with other professional fields. Another vital area receiving
amendments was the extension to the confidentiality law. It is now considered
confidential if a person makes an appointment; attaining an appointment is just as
important as anything said during a session. In the past, there was concern
counselors were making referrals due to religious beliefs. Referrals counselors
make will be based on skill and not the counselor s personal beliefs. It is imperative,
new counselors especially, keep up with ethical codes and the changes which can
occur at any time.
The ACA s Code of Ethics and the Ethical Standards for School Counselors are great
resource tools to describe confidentiality, responsibilities to the student, school,
community, and families; student records, technology, collaboration, social justice
advocacy, professional responsibility, relationships, supervision, evaluation,
assessment, and interpretation. In a high school counselor meeting I attended, the
speaker explained one noteworthy recommendation; counselors should act as if they

Weapons and Technology Advancements during WW1
World War 1(WW1) introduced many different types of machinery and weaponry to
the world. It was known to be the greatest enhancements technological warfare. It
introduced many different types of machinery and weaponry to the world. Some
examples would include the first models of tanks, machine guns, airplanes and

tactics which in the end, results in an overall more deadlier war.
Tanks provided a substantial difference during the war. It increased mobility on the

The vast idea of the tank was constructed in 1915 by a British Army colonel named
Ernest Swinton and William Hankey, a secretary of the Committee for Imperial
Defense. The first tank prototype, Little Willie, was revealed in September 1915. It
was a great advancement of war technology and inspired and influenced other
countries to come up with their own models. But when Little Willie hit the
battlefield, it turned out to be a complete bust. It struggled to terrain the trenches and
would often get caught in them. It traveled very slowly and and quickly became
overheated. Because of this, the British decided to make a newer and better tank
known as Big Willie (History 1). It quickly became known across the world that other
Monetary Policy And Its Effects On The Economy
Introduction
Monetary policy has created financial stability and a lesser impact on the economy. In
the aftermath of the financial crisis, many financial institutions had little or no
options just bear the burden of their immature practices. These financial institutions
brought major fatalities into the markets increasing the scope and vulnerability of the
financial sectors. According to the Federal Reserve, monetary policy is an action of
the central bank to achieve macroeconomic policy objectives such as price stability,
full employment, and stable economic growth.
Monetary policy has had a positive impact precisely the U.S economy. The
unemployment rate has reduced and the economy has shown signs of recovering.
Moreover, many central bank governors have different views and practices when it
comes to monetary easing, at such, to prevent further crisis spill out into the
economy. In the short, the Federal Reserve chairs manage through decisions and
tackle the crisis as prudent as possible. As we have seen with quantitative easing,
purchasing bonds, and making general influence of short term market interest rate.

Have you ever wondered why artists make different variants of their fellow designers
work? The incident I will be telling you about is when Pablo Picasso made 58
renditions of Diego VelГЎzquez s painting Las Meninas. This is a very unique piece
of art that has been well known in the art industry for the different variations that
were made of it. In my essay I will be giving a description of the original piece of
art, talking about why he made 58 depictions of LasMeninas and what they consisted
of, as well as comparing and contrasting the authentic paintingto the modified ones.
As we look at the original painting we see several girls huddled around a princess. In
the background we see Diego VelГЎzquez examining the women as he begins to
paint. I believe that VelГЎzquez was trying to illustrate that without the help of
lower class individuals the princess or any person in power couldn t be successful.
One reason I believe this is because SeГ±or VelГЎzquez s title of the painting, The
ladies in waiting. This is the english translation of the Spanish words Las Meninas.
Although the main character seems to be the princess the maids are included in the
title and his picture which to me shows their significance. I think he created this
painting because he wanted to explain something that he felt was important in a
piece of art. I believe this is because of what he centered the piece around. His
painting made clear that he was trying to show the
Difference Between Variable Cost And Fixed Cost
Fixed Costs: Fixed costs are the costs that are independent of the amount of goods or
services produced by the business. For example rent, salaries.
For fixed costs, you have to pay them even if you do nothing.
Variable Costs: A variable cost can vary in relation to the amount of business
activities. For example raw material, energy usage, labour, logistics, etc.
Marginal Costs: It can be defined as the additional cost (increase or decrease) to total
production cost from producing one additional unit of good or service.
Marginal Revenue: It is the additional revenue that can be generated by selling one
additional unit of goods or services. In microeconomic theory, when marginal cost

Current Ratio: Current ratio measures if a company has enough resources to meet its
short term obligations. It shows the proportion of current assets in relation to its
current liabilities. The higher the ratio, the more liquid the company is. The ideal
current ratio is 2 for most enterprises. 1.5 is also an acceptable ratio. Current ratio
being under 1 indicates that company is having difficulties and unable to meet its
liabilities, making the company illiquid .
Try to keep your current ratio above 1.5, otherwise you ll go down fast.
Quick Ratio: It is a liquidity ratio that measures how quick a company can pay its
liabilities. It differs from Current Ratio because in quick ratio, inventory is excluded
from current assets. The reason why is that the inventory may not sell out so fast. So
quick ratio quickly captures if your company has enough liquidity, which is
frequently used by banks, creditors, investors. Ideal ratio would be 1:1 or
Holden Caulfield Hypocrite

Holden Caulfield tells us about his life adventures after he got expelled from his

exhibits many traits. For one, Holden is a hypocrite; he believes one thing when
he really does not. For example, he preaches that people should be themselves and
not be phony but yet he fakes his name most of the time and tries to be someone he

empathetic. Holden cares for others, even though it might seem as if he does not.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND READERSHIP
The atmospheric parameters, including, aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, play very
important role in our Earth s climate system. The climate feedbacks influencing the
global climate variability are directly or indirectly affected by aerosols, clouds, and
precipitation, and thus, modulate the Earth s radiation and surface energy balance.
Therefore, global observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation are crucial not
only to better understand the processes involved in the climate system but also to
predict the future climate change.
Satellite remote sensing as a tool can be very valuable to acquire such global
observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation for monitoring Earth s climate
system. In particular, some of the regions in the Earth are not easily accessible to
obtain in situ data while on those regions; space borne instruments can act as
complimentary data sources. Besides, large scale data mapping and monitoring are
only feasible with space based observations.
A good progress has been made in the recent years in dealing with remote sensing of
the aerosols, clouds, and precipitation using satellite measurements for global
observations. Notably, the remote sensing

I, David Farragut, was born as James Glasgow Farragut on July 5, 1801 to my
mother Elizabeth Shine and my father, Jorge Antonio Farragut Mesquida, in
Campbell s Station, Tennessee. I am not fully Hispanic, however, my father Jorge

Farragut who served the King of Aragon during the 13th century. I lived in Tennessee
until 1807, because my dad was stationed at New Orleans. At the age of 17, I left my
family to go to the Porter family. My mother died of a yellow fever epidemic in
1808, however, she and my father were taking care of a naval officer named David

Character Foils In Vaclav And Lena
In the novel Vaclav and Lena, Haley Tanner employs the use of many character
foils. Characters are placed into similar roles and the behavior of one character
accentuates the traits of another, more major character. This is particularly
prominent among the women who act as Lena s guardians. Two of the most
important women in Lena s life are Radoslava and Rasia. Radoslava Dvorakovskaya
is an elderly womanwho Lena lives with when she is very young. Radoslava passes
away and Lena moves in with her aunt. In her new neighborhood, she meets a boy
named Vaclav and his mother, Rasia, who quickly becomes a guardian of Lena as
well. Radoslava is a foil for Rasia because while both serve as maternal figures for
Lena, Radoslava s failures as a caring guardian highlight Rasia s devotion and
kindness.

her role as a kind maternal figure in this case as she makes it very clear that she
does not want to be in this situation. On the other hand, Rasia and her son Vaclav
enjoys helping Lena and consider it a blessing rather than a burden. They are more
than willing to meet Lena and become acquainted with her, both of them knowing
that they were doing something nice (68). Rasia and Vaclav find pleasure in
knowing that they are doing a good deed. Unlike Radoslava, Rasia is
unconditionally caring. Radoslava only does things for her own good and the
moment things get difficult she immediately pushes the responsibility onto Lena.
The way Radoslava treats Lena serves as a harsh contrast to the way that Rasia
willingly takes on the burden of acting like a mother for
The Impact On The Environment Essay
A growing problem in the world today is the effect humans have on the
environment. Specifically, humans are having a greater impact on the habitats of
animal species. As a child, I have always had an interest in animals and nature. My
fascination with them became even more profound as I got into high school.
Senior year of high school made me acknowledge that fact that I could something
about our environmental issues. This was why I majored in Environmental
Health. I wish to dedicate the rest of my education to come up with solutions to
improve the health of animals. The classes I took as a senior extraordinarily
impacted my life. The teachers in my environmental class and my English class
focused on helping us find what we wanted to major in. In the beginning of the
year, I wrote a research paper on the current innovations developed to clean oil
spills. Oil spills have significant damage to ecosystems and wildlife. I enjoyed this
assignment because it was the first topic that I discussed in school that dealt with
fixing an environmental problem. My Environmental class had an even greater
influence on me. It left me better educated and more interested in the topic. One of
the greatest impacts I had because of this class was a trip we took at the end of the
year. Certain people who were interested in the environmental field got to take a four
day trip to Wallop s Island and Chincoteague Island, Virginia. On this trip, we learned
about and explored the wetlands and coastal
Tonic Water Cornstarch Procedure
RESEARCH
Magic Mud is mainly a mixture of a dusty substance known as Cornstarch , and a
liquid known as Tonic Water . When you apply pressure to the substance of Magic
Mud, it will act as if it were a solid. Once you stop applying pressure to it, the
substance will act as if it were a liquid. To make this happen you should apparently
mix tonic water and cornstarch for a long period of time to allow this chemical
reaction to occur. What I wanted to know is if this would still be possible if I
replaced tonic water for a very reliable source that everyone that owns a house has;
which is regular water
When the cornstarch is mixed with tonic water for a long period of time, instead
of dissolving as if you were making Kool Aid. The substance will not dissolve, and
as a result will form a suspension. A suspension is when a substance does not
dissolve, due to this the solid particles (from the cornstarch) are freely moving
around IN THE INSIDE, while the liquid particles (from the tonic water) are staying
IN THE OUTSIDE of the substance.

Magic Mud behaves as a non Newtonian fluid, because when it is shocked or in
other words pressure is applied. Most of the water runs through the grains of
cornstarch, due to this cornstarch particles that were left behind were there to act as
a solid when enough pressure was applied. As soon as the pressure is released, the
water particles flow back through the grains, and as a result the mixture started acting
as a liquid again. According to scientists, there are apparently two theories proposing

Reggae Drumming Essay
Discuss the theoretical and technical concepts of reggae drumming, with reference to
its historical context (500 600 words)
Reggae is a music style (genre) which developed in the Caribbean (Jamaica) in the
late 60s, which originated from the development of Ska and Rocksteady .
Reggae is recognized worldwide by the rhythmic accents provided from the off beat
pattern (usually played by the guitar or piano) it is also known as the Skank .
This pattern accents the 2nd and 4th beat in each bar (or on the amp; of each beat all
depending on how the music/ piece is counted) and combines with the drum that
emphasises on beat 3 creating a unique feel.
Reggae music usually has a 4/4 time signature, with a low tempo. For the drums, 8th

The Emphasis is entirely on the 3rd beat of the bar.
(Usually on the snare, or a rim shot combined with the bass drum).
Bob Marley One Drop is a perfect example of this beat
Rockers :
Another style of drumming is called Rockers which was invented by the Drum and
Bass duo (Sly and Robbie). This style emphasises on the bass drum being played on
the 1st and 3rd beat instead of just the 3rd alone. Everything else is consistent with
the One Drop style.
This gives a much harder sound, and increases the song drive more.
It plays a similar beat to that of the guitar.
An emphasis can be found on the 1st and 3rd beat of the bar.
At times, counter rhythms can be played over the beat, but the 1st and 3rd beat are
always noticeable.
Steppers :
The last common reggae drumming style is called Steppers . This is when the beat
includes the bass drum hit on all 4 quarter notes, creating a stronger driving pulse.
This style has a stronger sound than Rockers with an even stronger beat.
It is probably the most simple of the beats.
Its defining characteristics are a solid 1 2 3 4 of the bass drum.
A good example of the Steppers beat can be found through a piece by Bob Marley,
titled: Exodus .

Question 1:
Compare and contrast cognitive and behavioral approaches, providing two similarities
and two difference between the chosen approaches. In comparing cognitive
approaches to behavioral approaches in psychology I have found that the cognitive
approach revolves around the concept of understanding. Meaning why people act in a
certain way, as to which requires the understanding of the internal process of how the
mind work. From my readings cognitive psychology specialized branch involves the
study of mental process people use daily such as thinking, perceiving, remembering
and learning.

Overall View Of Villa Savoye
Introduction
Figure 1: Overall View of Villa Savoye Figure 2: Overall View of Chandigarh
Villa Savoye was built in 1929 and finished built in 1931, located at Poissy, France.
This is one of the master work of Le Corbusier to show the Modern Architecture as
well as the elements of international style (Kroll 2010.). It is also one of the building
that dedicate and affect the modern architectures in 20th century (Arsenault 2014.).
He has comply the objective of the concept of a machine of living in for Villa Savoye
(Kroll 2010.). Moreover, Le Corbusier create a ramp from the ground floor all the
way to the rooftop garden and to allow the occupant slow down their step of life
and pressure from work to experience the movement between floor to floor. At the
same time the occupants can also view the nature of grass and trees from the
rooftop. The view is great as if it s a framed art piece itself (Feuerman 2014). The
building of Villa Savoye is in white, Le Corbusier consider that white as purest and
tonality on the structure buildingwill has changes according to the sun orientation.
Furthermore, Le Corbusier also clearly applied his theories of The Five Point in this
building (Kroll 2010.).
In the 50 s, Le Corbusier was request by Punjab government and the Prime minister
of India, Sh. JawaharLal Nehru for planning a brand new city at India. He was
employed for the master plan and the Capital building. He hold a postfor it from
1951 until his death in 1965
The Inclusiveness Of The Place Dimension
3.4. Discussion (the inclusiveness of the Place dimension):
A tension has always existed in architectural theories between art, social, and rational
notions. The inception of the Bauhaus based mainly on the notion of unifying all the
aspects of art under the wing of architecture. This art driven perspective derived
architectural practice to the creation of the international style. Modernism was
founded on the unity, the whole, and the progress of humanity, as in Marxism. This
was done regardless of the sensibility of social and environmental needs on the local
scale. It lost any continuation with the existing social and constructed values.
Socially and contextually correspondent architecture were the main driving forces
behind the revolute architectural theories that substituted modernism. Art always
persists along architectural movements, either as the main driving force or as a
guaranteed consequent that is achieved in the background, as is the case for the
rational perspective. In the foreground or the background, it comes with different
flavors that is affected with or affects the principles of these theories. This existential
property of art can be deducted by reviewing the aforementioned architectural
theories. The different relations between the art, social, and rational motives would
be comprehended better after discovering more urban dimensions by the end of the
coming chapter.
The aforementioned different types of places exhausted a fair amount of known place
The Sarbanes Oxley Act ( Fraud )
Fraudulent activities and embezzlement are more prevalent in organizations than
most people think. Because of the multitude of previous scandals, the Sarbanes Oxley
Act has required all publicly traded U.S. companies to have internal auditing and
internal controls to check for fraudulent activity and embezzlement. While the
Sarbanes Oxley Act only applies to public businesses, the requirements of it should
be applied to all types of businesses, even universities. In the Case of the City
University of New York, having internal controls and auditingwould have halted the
embezzlement occurring there.

As the discoverer, David W. Chen is qualified to report on the updates of the case

article Lapses by CUNY Officials Made System Ripe for Abuse, Report Says more
clearly states his purpose for writing. Chen hopes to halt the siphoning of money
that could be best used for students in need or campus projects. His previous
experience as an investigative journalist allows him to only discuss facts and not
wrongfully infer things regarding the investigation. He largely values his
journalistic reputation and will not allow it to be fractured by incorrect statements.
Both articles largely present facts about each case (Marino and Coico) and does not
make inferences about the reasoning behind the embezzlement or connections.
Instead, he restates court documents and enables the understanding for a range of
ages. This is one of the major strengths of his argument. He does not even insert
any opinions of wrongdoing. His lack of judgement keeps his piece unbiased and
strong. His use of quotations from various New York personnel adds personality and
personalizes the piece. The quotes also allow readers to have an inside look to the
scandal. Both articles state that shoddy oversight and ineffective management at the
City University of New York have created a system ripe for abuse that assisted in the

However France is not known as France during that particular time period as the

Europe occupied by present day France, Belgium, western Switzerland and the
parts of the Netherlands and Germany on the west bank of the Rhine river. In
English, the word Gaul commonly refers to a Celtic inhabitant of that region in
ancient times. Gauls have always been a very violent people that did not take
death as seriously as the average person today. They often participated in human

TSA
TSA Paper
TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, needs to be improved. It is time
consuming, invasive and often ineffective because of pat downs and body scans.
TSA is a major part of American airport security. In a world where such precautions
are necessary, the system should be vastly upgraded to actually provide the security it
claims to give.
Some children dream of acquiring X Ray vision as a superpower, but did it ever
occur to them that it strips a person of their rights and degrades them? Body
scanners used in airports put people in a vulnerable state as a naked image of them
is captured. Another way TSA attacks an individual s rights is when they are patted
down in front of their family or friends and countless strangers. This is the perfect
opportunity for the worker to get handsy and grope an innocent person waiting to
get on a plane. On top of how invasive TSA is, it is also ineffective and therefore
abusing people s rights for an unbacked reason. According to a leaked internal
report, TSA Red Team members, whose job is to test performance, were able to get

As a result, in airports, people of the Muslim faith or people who resemble them,
are targeted. Other racial groups are not left out, however. When TSA began
getting stricter and coming up with new regulations, stories were released from
victims, including, a story of a woman being forced to remove prosthetic breasts, a
bladder cancer survivor being covered in urine after a TSA pat down, and a young
boy having his shirt removed during a secondary screening, (Carriero). A man by the
name of Bruce Schneier has proven with numbers that out of every one billion
passengers who go through the (airport security) scanners sixteen people may contract
cancer; Given that there will be six hundred million airline passengers per year, that

Death Penalty Effects On African Americans
Studies have also been carried out to explore whether the state s chronological use of
the death penalty to control African Americans has differentially affected African
American and White support for capital punishment beyond a possible geographical
divide. Past studies have shown that public opinion on national policy issues is
shaped by distrust and opposition to government power (Hetherington and Globetti,
257; Kinder and Sanders; Kinder and Winter, 441). Various studies have concluded
that groups are much less likely to support policies enacted by a government that they
distrust, principally if past policies have negatively affected them (Hetherington and
Globetti 259). In addition, Zimring argues that distrust of government should be...

Death alone was not considered as enough punishment unless it was preceded by
terror, torture and public humiliation. The majority of Americans have long
supported the use of the death penalty for adults, but its use as a punishment for
juvenile murders generates considerable debate (Vogel and Vogel, 169). It is this
difficult blend of history, opinion, policy, and fact that prompts one to consider
public perception toward the use of the death penalty for juveniles. Although there
is a fair amount of research that addresses public attitudes about the death penalty
overall, there is only a small body of literature that focuses on the public s
perceptions regarding the appropriateness of the death penalty for juveniles (Vogel
and Vogel, 170). The first known juvenile to be executed in the U.S was Thomas
Graurger who was tried and found guilty of bestiality in 1642 (Hale). So far after that
execution, over 361 juveniles have been executed as reported by Streib which
constitutes about 1.8 percent of the 20,000 confirmed executions in the U.S since
1608. Children within the ages of ten to sixteen have all been executed and a
whopping sixth nine percent of these executions have been African American
(Streib). Later on, juveniles were guaranteed certain rights, but they still potentially
faced the same punishments, including the capital punishments as adults in the
criminal judicial system. In the 1980 s, the Supreme Court was repeatedly asked to
rule on whether the execution of a juvenile offender was acceptable under the
Constitution. Eddings v. Oklahoma was the first case the Supreme Court agreed to
hear based on the defendant s age Eddings was 16 at the time he murdered a highway
patrol officer. Without ruling on the constitutionality of the juvenile death

Being able to lie lets you get away with stuff. Lying lets you do stuff that you would
not be able to do if you were not allowed to lie. It lets you have a way with
important effects or even the little junk. For example, if you ate the cookies in the
fridge and you were specifically told not to, you could lie. Not to mention that not
everyone holds the memories. There is only one person who keeps the memories.
On page 63 it says, There s only one Receiver. That person s name is the Receiver
of Memory. That person keeps all the memories of the past. Then that person passes
those memories to the next Receiver of Memory. On the other hand, we learn about

we can learn from our mistakes. We can learn what worked and what did not work. In

Beliefs And Achievements Of Alexander The Great
Throughout history, there have been many individuals who were able to change not
only their countries but also the surrounding world, by their beliefs and through their
achievements. An achievement is a thing done successfully by skill, courage or
strength. One of these influential individuals was Alexander the Great, an ancient
Macedonian king, who had many beliefs and achievements which had negative
effects on the world around him. Alexander the Great changed the world with his
beliefs and achievements that negatively affected the parts of the world he
influenced. Alexander the Great had many beliefs and achievements that changed
the world around him, such as his belief in the conquering of and spread of Greek
culture in many nations, and his later achievement of that belief and goal. He
believed he could unite the world as one nation, which he did not do, but in the
process, he was able to spread Greek culture through the many nations he conquered.
In Document 5, it states that because of Alexander, Greek ideas and culture spread.
This led to Greek literature and theater remain[ing] cultural influences in the eastern
Mediterranean and the Middle East for 900 years , (Document 5). Spreading to
culture led to culture diffusion in Europe and Asia, also resulting in the creation of
the Hellenistic Era. It unified many nations just as he wanted to, it s said that he said
he wanted to bring all of the Kingdom of Earth under one form of government, and to

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom Essay
Tuesdays With Morrie
Many people learn many things in many different ways. Most learn in school or
church, some learn in asking questions, but I believe the best lessons are taught
from a good friend. Tuesdays With Morrie is a true story of the remarkable lessons
taught by a dying professor, Morrie Schwartz, to his pupil, Mitch Albom. Morrie
teaches Mitch the lessons of life, lessons such as death, fear, aging, greed,
marriage, family, society, forgiveness, and a meaningful life. This is a story of a

Society is big on staying and looking young. People are constantly working out,

In 2008 a new BOT (Build Operate Transfer) law was passed as Kuwait recognized

government did not sign any BOT contracts and 31.4% projects or $61.2 billion

officials became a routine in the media with the private investors frustrated in

Collapse of Bronze Age Greece Essay
The Bronze Age in Greece was a period of time in which their civilization
flourished. They were a main power at the time and seemed to have everything
they wanted in the palm of their hands. Many other civilizations have a period of
time also known as the Bronze Age, however, the bronze age of Greece is widely
known to be the most prolific and dominant in history. The Greece Bronze Age is
estimated to have lasted from between 8th to 6th century BC to about 146BC.
Nobody knows for sure the exact time period in which it began and ended.
However, these are the dates that are most widely known to be accurate. No other

All of these civilizations came and went at different times throughout the duration
of Bronze Age Greece. All of them were drastically important in maintaining the
great power of the area during a time of such havoc and turmoil. Much like
anything in life, all good things must come to an end eventually. The Bronze Age
Greece almost completely fell by 146BC. There are a number of different reasons
why the collapse of the Bronze Age Greece occurred. In the following sections we
will discuss several reasons for the collapse of this once great society. Possibly the
most important cause for the fall of the Golden Age Greece was the Battle of
Corinth. It occurred in 146BC and officially marked the complete fall of the Greek
resistance against the Roman Republic. This was such a destructive turning point
for Greece because the city of Corinth possessed masses of wealth. It was a main
hub of activity and politics for the Greece civilization. The battle occurred during a
time when the Roman Republic sought to overtake Greece and all of its
corresponding states. Rome had been proving its great military strength and
superiority to neighboring nations previous to the Battle of Corinth. This period
outlines the fall of the Greece nation and the rise of the Roman Republic. Corinth
was one of the most powerful at that time. After the battle, the rest of Greece fell to
the Romans as well. The Greek states tried to hold off and resist Roman
Thre Views of Social Darwinism
The concept of Social Darwinism was a widely accepted theory in the nineteenth
century. Various intellectual, and political figures from each side of the political
spectrum grasped the theory and interpreted it in various ways. In this paper, we will
discuss three different nineteenth century thinkers and their conception of Social
Darwinism. The conservative, Heinrich von Treitschke, and liberal Herbert Spencer
both gave arguments on the usefulness of competition between people on a global
scale. The anarchist, Peter Kropotkin, refuted the belief of constant competition
among members of the same species and emphasized mutual aid. Heinrich von

To Treitschke, society would only have a place for Jews if they decided to convert
to Christianity and assimilate to the culture of their respective European nation

between human beings. Spencer believed that competition between animals helped
advance their spieces to a higher level over a long period of time; he extended this
argument to humans and warfare. Much like Treitschke, Spencer argued that warfare
and competition between humans had exemplified the ability to root out the weak
from the earth. The world to Spencer was a continual struggle between the strong
and intelligent, to that of the weak and feeble minded resulting a continual
progression of intellect and honing of the senses. According to Spencer, if societies
were not able to adapt to compete, they would cease to exist. Spencer believed that
wars of primitive man were necessary because they were instrumental in developing
the structure of their growing societies. As a result of war, tribes were encouraged to
confederate, confederations gave way to small nations, and large nations progressed

Sixteen Candles And The Breakfast Club Analysis
In Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we see so much in common as well as
differences present. These 2 John Hughes movies were a big hit in the Directors
career, as well as Pretty in Pink but we are not discussing that movie. In these
movies we see a lot of themes crossed over that are explored in many different ways.
One of the main characters for both these movies was Molly Ringwald; we really
showed and expressed these ideals of her characters perfectly. There were many
themes that we can compare and contrast these movies. The 4 main themes that I
believe really made impacts on these shows are: rich vs. poor, popular or unpopular,
changing to fit the norm , and Common similarities between social classes. Hughes is
an amazing director that really captures these moments in each theme; he captures
them and presents them at the most unexpected times in the movies that fit perfectly.
In both Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we are able to see how different
scenarios how the rich vs. poor is important in these movies, social class play and
important roles in each of these movies. In Sixteen Candles we see how everyone
hangs out with people who fit in these ideals. Jake and Caroline are seen as the rich
characters considering how they act when they are at the part. It seems like they
have no care in the world for any of the destruction taking place at all. Jake s house is
trashed and he don t really care. Then we see when Jake lets geek borrow his car

  • 2. How Is The Epigraph Used In The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald uses The Great Gatsby to discuss obsessive tragic love, and appearance versus reality. These ideas are first presented to the reader in the opening epigraph which is a quotation taken from, This Side of Paradise, another novel by Fitzgerald,: Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her; / If you can bounce high, bounce for her too, / Till she cry Lover, gold hatted, high bouncing lover, / I must have you! . The Great Gatsbyfollows Gatsby s journey to win back Daisy, through the eyes of the narrator, Nick Carraway. Fitzgerald uses the opening epigraph to introduce the idea that Gatsby changes himself so that Daisy will notice him. This change and obsession with Daisy is what eventually leads to Gatsby s demise. The opening epigraph sets the tone for the remainder of the book, and readers can see many connections between the epigraph and Gatsby s actions throughout the book.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using this quote, Fitzgerald presents the theme of changing yourself. The quote is saying, if you know of something that will catch her attention, or move her , then you should do it, or wear it. If you have a specific skill, which in this case is bouncing high, then you should show her that skill. The quote also says, that you should continue to do these things until you catch her attention, and you are all that she wants. The epigraph is presenting the idea that Jay Gatsby changes himself, becomes rich, and throws elaborate parties, all in hopes of wooing
  • 3. The Mystery Of Crime Fiction INTRODUCTION Crime fiction is a genre of literature that has been well distinguished and unparalleled for generations due to the intrigue readers experience throughout the culminating plot. Suspense accumulates as the protagonist and reader alike must process the crimes and interpret all the evidence presented so an apt denouement can resolve who has committed the murder and what their motives are. As the investigation progresses, conflicts inevitably arise and pose adversity for the protagonist as they must determine if their inclinations are correct or their focus has been leading them astray in the process. Uncertainty plagues the mind of those who are emotionally and professionally invested with the case. This aspect has always been engaging because the internal conflicts the protagonist faces increases the drama of these investigations as no one seems to have any answers, yet they are all suspects. The point of stagnation for the investigator often forces them to reinterpret and validate all the evidence, while ruling out any implausible instances. After this state of confusion and reevaluation, a break in the case offers enough of a reprieve for the investigation to deviate from the path of circumlocution. Personally, the most profound component that peaks my interest in an investigative novel is the internal strife within the protagonist that incites further confusion and conflicting ideas. The significance of any imperfections within the lead character is that the
  • 4. Software Patent Protection Research Paper Software patentability has been a controversial debate for a long time. Some countries, such as the United States broadly allow software patents. Meanwhile, in most countries, such as Europe and the United Kingdom, patentability of software is on an ad hoc basis, where the certain tests and approaches are adopted and shifted over time. The more pressing question therefore relates to the scope to be accorded to software patents. Accordingly, this essay examines the boundaries within which software patents are granted under the jurisdiction of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office ( EPO ) and the United Kingdom. For this purpose, in addition to the introduction and conclusion, with respect to each jurisdiction, the essay first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1.2Observations 1.2.1Narrow scope of patent protection for software As referred to in section 2.1, due to the excluded subject matter, there is a misconception that software is not patentable in Europe. However, in practice, the EPO has granted thousands of software patents since its formulation. Scholars assess that the scope of patent protection for software interpreted by the Boards of Appeals is fairly limited. Nevertheless, narrow or broad are the abstract concepts, which should be evaluated in conjunction with the benefits and costs of software patents. Therefore, it is relevant to examine the reasons for opening or closing door for software patents to take a stand in assessing how broad or narrow the scope of patent protection should be. Some commentators argue that the optimal scope should be broad for the reasons set out below. First, given that copyright does not protect technical innovation and ideas of software, patent which protects such aspect may give satisfaction to the inventor for his hard work and intellect. Second, software patents will stimulate investment and incentives to invent because details of the invention are available to the public. As recognized by the EPO, it will promote the innovation of the software industry. Some researchers also predict that European patent law will follow the lead of the United States in going through three phases: (i) first doubted; (ii)

Political Claims of Advancement of Women Addressing a group of teachers in Sultanpur on Tuesday night, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Varun Gandhi had said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is doing good work through his self help groups (SHG) for advancement of women in Amethi. While this exchange of words between bigwigs in Gandhi family is catching an attention of national media ahead of 16th general elections, the plight of SHG members in Chennai signifies the reality which is far away from these political claims of advancement of women through SHGs. With one of the groups in our federation, bank did not sanction the loan even after the rating was done four months ago. There was a political influence. It has become usual story now, complains Bhuwaneshwari, animator of SHG called money plant situated in North Chennai. The camera reveals the distribution of radioactive material in a patient and this distribution is determined by the uptake of radiopharmaceutical, which is dependent on the function of the body. For example, in bone scan, technetium 99 m is injected into the patient s body, this travels through the blood, and it s metabolised and accumulated in the body. • 8. Bucho s Use Of Cinematography In Desperado Throughout Desperado cinematography is exhibited in a multitude of various ways that limits the percentage of the diegesis that is shown. It is the deciding factor that determines what will and what will not be in the film. The aspects of cinematography are utilized in constructing our emotions of the film, directing our focus, and in creating the entirety of the space. The camera is the main element in cinematography that directs our attention in different scenes. For example, in the beginning of the film we see Bucemi enter a bar. As he tells the story of the unknown man who killed everyone in the other bar, the camera goes back and forth to Bucemi s and the bartender s face. This is done so that the auidience s attention is mainly on their facial expressions as the story is being told. Another example is when the main character tells Carolina that Bucho s men killed the women he loved and shot him in the hand. In this scene, a close up distance is used to show only the mariachi s face. That way our concertation is solely on his face and the emotions that are displayed. ... Another example is when Bucemi informs the bartender of what he experienced in the other bar. There is a flashback of the event that shows the mariachi walking into the bar. A shadow is casted over his face which alludes to his menacing and threating character. This causes the audience to feel that he is dangerous and

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gram positive bacteria play an important role in sequestration of these heavy metals from human body. However, it may be noted that these microorganisms carry out Detoxication and NOT Detoxification . Detoxification can be defined as the phenomenon of removal of harmful drugs, mutagens and other toxic agents from the body; whereas, Detoxication is the process of preventing the entry of harmful substances into the body (Jin et al. 2009). Detoxication occurs primarily in the intestine, liver and kidney where the microorganism sequester the harmful substances before they reach the target tissues and cause damage, either fatal or non fatal (Berhane et al. 1994). So it can thus be concluded that gram positive bacteria and even the probiotic bacteria have a very important role in the binding of heavy metals and thereby protecting the body. 4.1 Mechanism of Removal And Sequestration Of Heavy Metals 4.1.1 Removal of Arsenic Arsenic is a highly toxic element and a very common contaminant now a days. It is present in earth s crust, in clay and also in sulphur rich regions (Henker 2009). It is colourless, tasteless and odourless (Ahsan et al. 2000). It is a very common contaminant of ground water. When this water is consumed for drinking then it may cause lung disorders, kidney failures, bladder and skin cancer. Therefore, its presence poses a serious life threat to humans as well as other animals also. Due to this reason, removal of arsenic

Morte Darthur : A research paper for English 325 In Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur the tale of Launcelot and Guinevere s betrayal and the tragedy that ensues is the prevailing end of the arthurian legend. Malory writing as a prisoner accused of treason took vested interest in the betrayal of Arthur by Guinevereand one of his most popular knights. Most likely due to the fact that Malory saw himself and hope for mercy in the character Launcelot and made that evident in the story he wrote.Ultimately Malory wrote the Morte to absolve himself of wrongdoing, but it is also rife of subtle criticisms of royalty. Once the cat is out of the bag however and Guinevere is prepared for the stake is when Launcelot swoops in to save the day and establish himself as the hero of this story. While Arthur had every legal right to burn Guinevere at the stake for treason the fact that she avoided punishment at all is significant to Malory s idea that the monarchy abuses their power because they are ultimately the judge jury and executioner as well the body government in which all laws must be approved by. The ridiculousness of laws against treason were overwhelming in the time Malory was writing. Any crime that touched upon the king or the welfare of the kingdom in anyway even remotely could thus be defined as treason (Muckerheide, 49) the definition of treason was insanely broad and as Muckerheide points out It was easier to get a conviction for treason than any of the more precisely defined felonies (Muckerheide, 49). The short storyFlorianne, written by Daniel Woodrell, tells about a father whose entire life revolves around the mysterious disappearance of his daughter. Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related Macular Degeneration Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for people 60 years of age and older in the developed world. Vision loss is caused by the destruction of the cone photoreceptors, located in the macula, that are responsible for color/central vision. The underlying cause of AMD is the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located just below the photoreceptors, known as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main role of the RPE is to maintain the function of the photoreceptor layer by secreting nutrients, absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during the visual cycle. As a person ages the efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up of toxic by products. These toxic build ups, known as drusens, result in the separation and death of the photoreceptor and RPE layers. AMD is speculated to result from as many as 20 different genetic mutations and as a result there is no known cure for the disease (CITE), but recent advances in stem cell therapy is a hopeful step in the right direction.... An example of a systemic testimonial injustice would be the accent of a speaker, causing the speaker to receive a credibility deficit. His accent could lead the students to believe he isn t capable to be someone who holds much knowledge. The students doing so wrongs the professor, and he is receiving testimonial injustice. This type of testimonial injustice is systemic and not justified as the professor is assumed to have this job because he is properly qualified for the position. This example is systemic because it contains a connection with a common prejudice that occurs often in society. People with accents often face prejudice and receive a credibility deficit as a result. According to Fricker, testimonial injustices occur when identity power is in play. Identity power is whenever there is an operation of power with shared concepts of social identities. An example Fricker uses of active identity power is a man silencing a woman with a joke about her in The Talented Mr. Ripley. There are two types of operations of power discussed by Fricker. An example of passive identity power is a woman being silenced simply because she is a woman and feeling like she shouldn t speak out. Identity power can work in a positive manner or a negative manner. For example rent, salaries. For fixed costs, you have to pay them even if you do nothing. Variable Costs: A variable cost can vary in relation to the amount of business activities. For example raw material, energy usage, labour, logistics, etc. Marginal Costs: It can be defined as the additional cost (increase or decrease) to total production cost from producing one additional unit of good or service. Marginal Revenue: It is the additional revenue that can be generated by selling one additional unit of goods or services. In microeconomic theory, when marginal cost (MC) ... It shows the proportion of current assets in relation to its current liabilities. The higher the ratio, the more liquid the company is. The ideal current ratio is 2 for most enterprises. 1.5 is also an acceptable ratio. Current ratio being under 1 indicates that company is having difficulties and unable to meet its liabilities, making the company illiquid . Try to keep your current ratio above 1.5, otherwise you ll go down fast. Quick Ratio: It is a liquidity ratio that measures how quick a company can pay its liabilities. It differs from Current Ratio because in quick ratio, inventory is excluded from current assets. The reason why is that the inventory may not sell out so fast. So quick ratio quickly captures if your company has enough liquidity, which is frequently used by banks, creditors, investors. Ideal ratio would be 1:1 or

For one, Holden is a hypocrite; he believes one thing when he really does not. For example, he preaches that people should be themselves and not be phony but yet he fakes his name most of the time and tries to be someone he is not. Although Holden is a hypocrite, he stands up for his morals, and he is very empathetic. Holden cares for others, even though it might seem as if he does not. Remote Sensing Of Aerosols, Clouds And Precipitation Book Title Remote Sensing of Aerosols, Clouds, and Precipitation EDITORS Tanvir Islam, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA Yongxiang Hu, NASA Langley Research Center, USA Alexander Kokhanovsky, EUMETSAT, Germany Jun Wang, University of Nebraska, USA BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND READERSHIP The atmospheric parameters, including, aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, play very important role in our Earth s climate system. The climate feedbacks influencing the global climate variability are directly or indirectly affected by aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, and thus, modulate the Earth s radiation and surface energy balance. Therefore, global observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation are crucial not only to better understand the processes involved in the climate system but also to predict the future climate change. Satellite remote sensing as a tool can be very valuable to acquire such global observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation for monitoring Earth s climate system. In particular, some of the regions in the Earth are not easily accessible to obtain in situ data while on those regions; space borne instruments can act as complimentary data sources. Besides, large scale data mapping and monitoring are only feasible with space based observations. A good progress has been made in the recent years in dealing with remote sensing of the aerosols, clouds, and precipitation using satellite measurements for global observations. Notably, the remote sensing

Specifically, humans are having a greater impact on the habitats of animal species. As a child, I have always had an interest in animals and nature. My fascination with them became even more profound as I got into high school. Senior year of high school made me acknowledge that fact that I could something about our environmental issues. This was why I majored in Environmental Health. I wish to dedicate the rest of my education to come up with solutions to improve the health of animals. The classes I took as a senior extraordinarily impacted my life. The teachers in my environmental class and my English class focused on helping us find what we wanted to major in. In the beginning of the year, I wrote a research paper on the current innovations developed to clean oil spills. Oil spills have significant damage to ecosystems and wildlife. I enjoyed this assignment because it was the first topic that I discussed in school that dealt with fixing an environmental problem. My Environmental class had an even greater influence on me. It left me better educated and more interested in the topic. One of the greatest impacts I had because of this class was a trip we took at the end of the year. Certain people who were interested in the environmental field got to take a four day trip to Wallop s Island and Chincoteague Island, Virginia. On this trip, we learned about and explored the wetlands and coastal

When you apply pressure to the substance of Magic Mud, it will act as if it were a solid. Once you stop applying pressure to it, the substance will act as if it were a liquid. To make this happen you should apparently mix tonic water and cornstarch for a long period of time to allow this chemical reaction to occur. • 43. The Inclusiveness Of The Place Dimension 3.4. Discussion (the inclusiveness of the Place dimension): A tension has always existed in architectural theories between art, social, and rational notions. The inception of the Bauhaus based mainly on the notion of unifying all the aspects of art under the wing of architecture. This art driven perspective derived architectural practice to the creation of the international style. Modernism was founded on the unity, the whole, and the progress of humanity, as in Marxism. This was done regardless of the sensibility of social and environmental needs on the local scale. It lost any continuation with the existing social and constructed values. Socially and contextually correspondent architecture were the main driving forces behind the revolute architectural theories that substituted modernism. Art always persists along architectural movements, either as the main driving force or as a guaranteed consequent that is achieved in the background, as is the case for the rational perspective. In the foreground or the background, it comes with different flavors that is affected with or affects the principles of these theories. This existential property of art can be deducted by reviewing the aforementioned architectural theories. The different relations between the art, social, and rational motives would be comprehended better after discovering more urban dimensions by the end of the coming chapter. It is this difficult blend of history, opinion, policy, and fact that prompts one to consider public perception toward the use of the death penalty for juveniles. Although there is a fair amount of research that addresses public attitudes about the death penalty overall, there is only a small body of literature that focuses on the public s perceptions regarding the appropriateness of the death penalty for juveniles (Vogel and Vogel, 170). The first known juvenile to be executed in the U.S was Thomas Graurger who was tried and found guilty of bestiality in 1642 (Hale). Morrie had aging in better perspective, The young are not wise, they have very little understanding about life. Who wants to live every day when you don t know what s going on? When people are manipulating you, telling you to buy this perfume and you ll be beautiful, or this pair of jeans and you ll be sexyВ… It s very simple. As you grow you learn more. In 2008 a new BOT (Build Operate Transfer) law was passed as Kuwait recognized the requirement to attract foreign investors and start the development plan. BOT is the method through which private sector would be involved in mega projects under the Kuwait development plan. The new law was a model of PPP according to which, the private investors would build and operate for a fixed time frame and benefit from the revenue streams. In Kuwait time frame was usually 20 40 years after which it would be transferred to the government. Despite all the optimism, the government did not sign any BOT contracts and 31.4% projects or $61.2 billion worth of projects were held or called off. All of these civilizations came and went at different times throughout the duration of Bronze Age Greece. All of them were drastically important in maintaining the great power of the area during a time of such havoc and turmoil. Much like anything in life, all good things must come to an end eventually. The Bronze Age Greece almost completely fell by 146BC. There are a number of different reasons why the collapse of the Bronze Age Greece occurred. In the following sections we will discuss several reasons for the collapse of this once great society. Possibly the most important cause for the fall of the Golden Age Greece was the Battle of Corinth. It occurred in 146BC and officially marked the complete fall of the Greek resistance against the Roman Republic. This was such a destructive turning point for Greece because the city of Corinth possessed masses of wealth. It was a main hub of activity and politics for the Greece civilization. The battle occurred during a time when the Roman Republic sought to overtake Greece and all of its corresponding states. Rome had been proving its great military strength and superiority to neighboring nations previous to the Battle of Corinth. This period outlines the fall of the Greece nation and the rise of the Roman Republic. Corinth was one of the most powerful at that time. After the battle, the rest of Greece fell to the Romans as well. The Greek states tried to hold off and resist Roman
  • 53. Thre Views of Social Darwinism The concept of Social Darwinism was a widely accepted theory in the nineteenth century. Various intellectual, and political figures from each side of the political spectrum grasped the theory and interpreted it in various ways. In this paper, we will discuss three different nineteenth century thinkers and their conception of Social Darwinism. The conservative, Heinrich von Treitschke, and liberal Herbert Spencer both gave arguments on the usefulness of competition between people on a global scale. The anarchist, Peter Kropotkin, refuted the belief of constant competition among members of the same species and emphasized mutual aid. Heinrich von Treitschke s defense of Social Darwinismwas a direct result of his view on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Treitschke, society would only have a place for Jews if they decided to convert to Christianity and assimilate to the culture of their respective European nation implying that the Christian European was superior to that of the Jew. English liberal Herbert Spencer gave his own defense of Social Darwinism and conflict between human beings. Spencer believed that competition between animals helped advance their spieces to a higher level over a long period of time; he extended this argument to humans and warfare. Much like Treitschke, Spencer argued that warfare and competition between humans had exemplified the ability to root out the weak from the earth. The world to Spencer was a continual struggle between the strong and intelligent, to that of the weak and feeble minded resulting a continual progression of intellect and honing of the senses. According to Spencer, if societies were not able to adapt to compete, they would cease to exist. Spencer believed that wars of primitive man were necessary because they were instrumental in developing the structure of their growing societies. As a result of war, tribes were encouraged to confederate, confederations gave way to small nations, and large nations progressed into large advanced

  • 55. Sixteen Candles And The Breakfast Club Analysis In Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we see so much in common as well as differences present. These 2 John Hughes movies were a big hit in the Directors career, as well as Pretty in Pink but we are not discussing that movie. In these movies we see a lot of themes crossed over that are explored in many different ways. One of the main characters for both these movies was Molly Ringwald; we really showed and expressed these ideals of her characters perfectly. There were many themes that we can compare and contrast these movies. The 4 main themes that I believe really made impacts on these shows are: rich vs. poor, popular or unpopular, changing to fit the norm , and Common similarities between social classes. Hughes is an amazing director that really captures these moments in each theme; he captures them and presents them at the most unexpected times in the movies that fit perfectly. In both Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we are able to see how different scenarios how the rich vs. poor is important in these movies, social class play and important roles in each of these movies. In Sixteen Candles we see how everyone hangs out with people who fit in these ideals. Jake and Caroline are seen as the rich characters considering how they act when they are at the part. It seems like they have no care in the world for any of the destruction taking place at all. Jake s house is trashed and he don t really care. Then we see when Jake lets geek borrow his car looking at Jake
