The Deaths Of Women During Ciudad Juarez
In general those who live in Ciudad Juarez know about the recurring murders over
the past decade involving women. Despite of that there are still millions that are
oblivious to this occurring or choose to ignore it. It also gets less talked about
comparing to other issues occurring around the world. Those who choose to talk
about the subject eventually give up because they saw no immediate results or any
progress at all. As stated before some chose to ignore the issue because they felt it
was the easy way out and had fear of their own lives as well. Especially, the
residents of Ciudad Juarez were in fear to speak of it because they felt they would
put their lives endangered. However, to truly understand the severity and
seriousness of this subject like many other issues you need to have some idea of
how and why it started and the history or facts surrounding the issue. That is why
the main focus is finding the factors that may have contributed to the recurring
murders of women in Ciudad Juarez. Moreover, the effects of the murders on the
victim families, the public in general, and the city. Also finding if there were any
motives behind the murders of the women. Lastly, finding if there are any solutions
for the murders to come to an end, any way to deter people from doing it, and has
there been something done in the past decade to tackle the murders from happening
again. There has been debates and deliberations on how and when the series murders
of women began, but
Du Fu Research Paper
Du Fu: Making the Best of Bad Times
Du Fu was one of the greatest poets of China. Living during the Tang Dynasty, a
golden age for literacy, poetry, and the civil service examination, Du Fu flourished
as a poet. Although he was a civil servant for a great part of his life, it was not until
the An Lushan Rebellion, which began in 755, that Du Fu s career as a poet really
began. Because the aesthetic behind his poetry was history and morality, Du Fu used
the war and all bad that was around him to become a great poet and influence many
people. Du Fu became one of China s greatest poets because his poetry gave insight
of history and life during the Tang Dynasty as well as calligraphy, domestic life, and
military tactics. Much of what is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Du Fu writes about the snowstorm as a comparison to the war, showing its great
magnitude and effect on the Tang Dynasty. This specific poem presents the
distressing situation of a dynasty by highlighting the agony experienced by a
certain citizen, who is not only an official but a writer and victim of the war. Du
Fu gave contributed to Chinese literature in his times, but also in the times to
come. Du Fu had an extensive a certain pattern in his verses; his poems were
inspired by journeys and experiences. He also wrote many of his poems to people
around him, such as friends and relatives. When a relative or a friend accomplished
something that deserved recognition, Du Fu would write them a poem as a way of
congratulating them. Although much of his poetry was not recognized greatly until
after his death, Du Fu still was a major figure during the Tang
The Effects of Harriet Bird, Memo Paris, and Iris Lemon
in...
In The Natural by Bernard Malamud, the main character, Roy Hobbs joins the
New York Knights with an uncontrollable desire to be the best, at first in baseball,
but later on in other aspects of his life. Roy is unable to control his appetites, one
of them being for women. Roy is considerably influenced not by stereotypical
fatherly figures, but rather women, namely Harriet Bird, Memo Paris, and Iris
Lemon. While Harriet and Memo are not positive influences, and only wishes ill of
Roy, Iris certainly is a positive influence, and cares about Roy, liking him from the
start. Harriet and Memo does not care about Roy, the two women only leads him on
to further their own goals. On the other hand, Iris does care about Roy, she is
concerned about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(71, Malamud) Roy falls in love with Memo because she once belonged to Bump,
whom Roy knew from the start that he would never like and constantly competed
with in baseball because both men had the same goal. (54, Malamud) Furthermore,
Roy wants Memo because he is unable to control his appetite for women. To Roy
she is the ultimate accomplishment, or the epitome of perfection. Roy pursues
Memo even though she gives him obvious hints that she isn t interested in him,
informing him she is strictly a dead man s girl. Memo is not at all the nurturing life
force that Roy, as a symbolic vegetative god, should be with. Not only is her breast
is sick, but her claim to be strictly a dead man s woman, symbolically refers dead
men or those with no life in them. (84, Malamud) The thing Memo offers Roy is
the option is to sell his promising future to the Judge. Only then, when Roy has
sacrificed his talent and ability for money, he can be with Memo. Memos only
virtue is her attractiveness, she is gloomy, given to melodrama, and many corrupt
men surrounds her. She takes away life, even as she attracts Roy; she drains away
Roy s energy while giving him none in return. Her uncle, Pop Fisher, warns Roy to
stay away from Memo, telling Roy, she is always dissatisfied and will snarl you up
in her trouble in a way that will weaken your strength if you dont watch out.
(Malamud, 120) On Roys first and only date with Memo, they drive out of the
Zoos And Conservation For Animals
For most of the wild things on Earth, the future must depend upon the conscience of
mankind, said by ecologist and pioneering conservationist Archie Carr. Humanity
has vast amounts of responsibilities and one of those responsibilities is to take care
of the wild animals in our world. However, is keeping wild animals in captivity really
the best way to take care of them? A zooor aquarium is an establishment that
maintains a collection of wild animals, in enclosures, to display to the public. The
American public loves to visit zoos and aquariums because they believe it s
educational and they ll be able to see animals from a variety of continents. The
concepts of zoos and aquariums have been around for centuries and the standard of
care... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Miller) Obviously, a zoo cannot provide adequate space to emulate an elephant s
natural habitat and often leaves them with a lack of exercise, causing arthritis from
standing on the same hard surface for hours. Similarly with aquariums, even the
largest, most well maintained aquariums cannot compare with the endless amount of
space in the ocean. It is easy to see that by these standards, zoos and aquariums cannot
sufficiently care for the animals that they hold in captivity. Being imprisoned in small
cages or enclosures can drive an animal crazy and lead to a disorder called
zoochosis, which is the abnormal behavior of animals because they have been kept
in captivity. Animals that suffer from zoochosis act very strangely by pacing back
and forth repetitively or by even biting or scratching themselves out of boredom
and frustration. I personally have observed this behavior at the San Diego Zoo,
two tiger cubs were isolated in a pitifully small room that resembled nothing like
the tropical forests that they would live in the wild. These cubs cried out in
distress and paced back and forth continuously from being kept in the same room
for many hours. Also in 1990, a polar bear in the Central Park Zoo named Gus,
alarmed visitors by compulsively swimming figure eights in his pool, sometimes for
twelve hours a day. He also stalked children from his underwater viewing area. His
behavior became so abnormal and frightening that the zoo put
The Servant As Leader By Robert Greenleaf
The Successful Servant Leader
Servant leadership, as it applies to the modern world, is a concept that Robert
Greenleaf defined in his influential 1970 essay, The Servant as Leader. Greenleaf s
essay explains that servant leadership is an amalgam of concrete leadership styles
and fragments of data that came to him through intuitive insight (1970). Having
worked at AT T from 1926 1964, he accumulated a number of leadershipqualities
throughout his professional career. After retirement he began teaching at Harvard
Business School, but became distressed by younger generations and their rebellious
attitudes. After careful consideration, he decided institutions were doing a poor job
of serving, so they were doing a poor job of leading. His ... Show more content on

The servant leader will communicate diplomatically and carefully (Marquis Huston,
2015). The servant leader has moral maturity and thinks, acts, and judges ethically
with a strong sense of self (Liden, et al, 2014). The list can be enhanced depending on
the situation, but as a nursing student, there are characteristics I value as the most
important servant leader qualities.
The Three Most Important Servant Leadership Characteristics The field of nursing
is one of the quintessential servant roles in our society today. We serve by taking
care of our patient s physical and mental (and sometimes spiritual) health. As a
nursing student, there are three main characteristics that I have seen modeled in
leaders that I think are most important to a servant leader s success. In my own
practice, I hope to focus on all servant leader characteristics, but these in particular
as I strive for a lengthy and fulfilling career. Firstly, it is not enough to be a good
listener, one has to be an active and deep listener, with the true ability to understand
what the other person is saying (Marquis Huston, 2015). A servant leader does not
interrupt to argue, validate, or refute points, but allows free expression of the person
to whom they are listening (Hunter, 1998). This demonstrates a contemplative as
opposed to a reactive style, which builds trust with other people. When we have truly
understood and not just heard our patient,
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mag Welding
Discussions The relative merits and demerits of TIG welding techniques with respect
to the AA5083 H321 alloy are discussed here.
Effect of Mg vaporization on Yield Stress: The concentration of Mg (wt.%) in the
fusion zone is 2.55 % (Table 4.4), which is lower than that in the base metal (4.214
%) (Table 3.1) due to the evaporation of Mg during the welding process. Since Mg is
the important strengthening element in Al Mg alloys, the concentration reduction of
Mg should be responsible for the yield stress decrease of TIG welded joint.
Effect of Mn and Fe vaporization on Yield Stress: Moreover the Al6(Fe,Mn) particles
distribute heterogeously in the base metal, as shown in Fig.3.8(b), ... Show more

The reduction in the chemical composition of the vaporizing element viz., Mn and
Fe has normally caused dissolution of Al6 (Fe, Mn) particles in the higher incident
power laser beam welding. The hardness values of LB welded joint at 3.5 kW are
less than that of the base metal because of the absence of the higher hardness
intermetallic compounds. This observation of absence of the various particles in
the weldzone and HAZ was correlating with earlier observation done by Moon and
Metzbower (1983). Moon and Metzbower have found that only 5 % of the
precipitates were remaining in the LB weld zone compared to the base metal.
Effect of defect on yield stress and tensile strength: The porous cross section at 3
kW LB weld reduced the tensile properties. Reduction of porosity in the subsequent
LB welds at 3.25 kW and 3.5 kW increases the tensile properties. The reduced cross
sectional area of the LB weld act as stress raiser and decrease in tensile properties
has been observed. The fine grains formed due to LB welding generally increasee
the tensile properties. Due to combined effect of fine grains and stress concentration
at the cross section, a minimum decrease of 15 % was observed in tensile properties
at 3.5 kW incident power LB
Sound Is All Around Us By Jason Torres States
Sound is very important in our lives, we need it to talk, sing, and for some animals
for food. But have you ever wondered how sound works? Well, there are two main
reasons because of energy and we are able to understand what does. without these two
elements, sound would not be as important as it is. One reason why soundis essential
to us is because it is energy. You might think something else but sound is really just
energy. The article, Sound is All around us, written by Jason Torres states, energy is
released in the form of vibrations. The vibrations emit from whatever has made the
sound in what is known as a longitudinal wave. So as basic as it is sound is just
energy being released in the form of vibrations. The second reason

Concentration is the profusion of a component divided by the solvent. Dilute
solutions contain relatively little solute in a particular volume of solvent. While
concentrated solution has relatively great amount of solute in a particular quantity of
solvent. There are many term that can be used to describe concentration and two of
them are percent by mass and molarity.
Molarity means number of moles of a solute in a litre of solution. molarity(M)=(mole
of solute)/(liter of solution)
Percent by mass means the mass (g) of solute per mass (g) of solution
Percent solute=(grams solute)/(grams solution) x 100%

Rhetorical Analysis Of Fredrick Douglas s Speech
Fredrick Douglas, a freed slave, delivered a speech on July fourth 1852. This
speech highlighted the hypocrisy of the United States and revealed how citizens,
slaves in particular, perceived Independence Day. Douglas s speech exposed the
nation, with a well constructed argument that effectively solidified the main and
most important point. Douglas used several rhetorical strategies throughout his
speech to argue his side. Fredrick Douglas used the rhetorical devices, ethos to
gain credibility, allusions to show comparisons, and pathos to spark an emotional
response in his speech to defend his claim about the hypocrisy of Independence
Day. Douglas was the first African American citizen to hold a high U.S.
government rank. Douglas gained recognition by being an abolitionist, journalist,
and powerful speaker, he was also born a slave. These two highly contradictory
characteristics gave him an edge when delivering his Fourth of July speech.
Douglas began his speech by asking, ...why am I called upon to speak here today?
What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? By asking
two rhetorical questions, Douglas allowed his audience to contemplate. This
contemplation leads to the realization, for most, that Douglas has more than
enough credibility to be presenting and speaking. Douglas establishes his
importance and credibility in the first two lines of his speech. Another way he
established credibility is by making himself cohesive with the audience. In the
second paragraph Douglas says, Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, than
an affirmative answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. In the mid
1800 s religion was an overwhelmingly large piece of people s lives. By referring to
religion Douglas can establish that he is a godly man and can be trusted. He also
established a connection to a large part of his audience by just mentioning God.
Throughout the introduction to Douglas s speech, he built up his credibility and
allows himself to appeal to more of the audience by using ethos. This credibility not
only created a concrete connection with the white audience, but also with the African
American audience. By doing this, Douglas allowed himself to appeal to a
Negative Effects Of Prohibition
In the history of the United States of America, laws have been passed and then
repealed due to its failure in society. Prohibition was another law passed that had
horrible repercussions. Prohibition was originally passed due to family violence,
high substance abuse rates, and political corruption. Due to the complete ban of
production nationwide, importation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, a window of
opportunity was opened for organized crimesyndicates to take control of the black
market. The demand for alcohol was still there. Smuggling, bootlegging and rum
running started flooding the illegal markets in the U.S in the early 1920 s. Irish,
Italian, and Jewish immigrants who had recently migrated to the U.S saw
prohibition as an opportunity to make a decent living in their new country, despite it
being illegal. Politicians also saw this as a get rich quick scheme, with blatant
disregard for their roles in political office. Corruption in the U.S government was at
an all time high rate due to bribes and less than discreet arm bending from organized
crime figures. Another negative aspect of prohibition was its impact on society due to
the influx of prophets now made by black hats and organized crime syndicates. They
now controlled labor unions, police departments, and huge corporations and systems
in place thus propagating inequality amongst Americans. Many famous organized
crime syndicates and figures came to power in the prohibition era. Prohibition created

When McGuire was retrieving her license used the pads of her fingers to get the

I returned to McGuire s vehicle and asked her to step from the vehicle, she complied.
Once outside the vehicle I noticed an odor of intoxicants coming from
McGuire s person. I asked McGuire how much she had to drink tonight, and she
said, a couple. I asked McGuire how much was a couple and she said earlier they
were at the Casino. McGuire said she was coming from the Casino.
I asked McGuire if she was willing to do some voluntary field sobriety tests to make
sure she was okay to drive, she said she would. McGuire said she had no physical

with my training.
The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. During this test I had to tell
McGuire multiple times to keep her head still. Additionally, during the entire test
McGuire swayed in a circular manner. I observed lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and

If the robber is not wearing a mask, Officer Hartshorn shared that taking note of the
robber s face can be very useful in an investigation.2 However, other schools of
thought on this matter state that it is better to take a submissive stance, not to
look the perpetrator in the eye (i.e., don t stare) and keep eyes down so the robber
will not think s/he can be identified, which could make the situation become deadly.
Using downward directed and peripheral vision to see clothing, shoes, tattoos, a
weapon, and as much of the robber as possible is less likely to escalate the event.7
Some pharmacies have a no escalation policy, encouraging employees to not do
anything that would anger the robber and perhaps make the situation more
dangerous than it already is. In doing so, an employee should be cooperative and
remain calm.7 Officer Hartshorn states that if the robber says s/he has a gun, assume
that to be true.2 Pharmacy employees should not get an attitude, try to be a hero,
Analysis Of The Hurt Locker
The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a
loaded comment that forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires
the viewer to identify what makes a good war film: is it the action, the heroism, the
filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these things are important to consider when
determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The Hurt Lockeris one of the
greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side, how it
removes the mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a
realistic hero that one could hope to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker
should be considered great is because of its accurate portrayal about the horrors of
war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states, [War] is peddled by mythmakers historians,
war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the state... that war as displayed by
the entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet and it is because
of this that the masses get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3, 84).
The Hurt Locker does the opposite of that, director Kathryn Bigelowdecides not to
follow the typical structure of a war movie and elects to include the graphic images
and sounds that remove the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare.
Specifically, the scene that stands out is when Staff Sargent William James finds the
body of a boy who strongly resembles a friend named Beckham, which has been
turned into a body bomb.
Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being
stuffed with explosives, and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to
use a variety of close up and medium shots to include the reaction that Will and his
squad have while staring at the body (Corrigan 2015). This alone is enough to
make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly excels is during Will s
removal of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us up from
the typical film is the deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84).
Bigelow accomplishes this during the bomb removal by adding a loud snap every
time Will cuts a suture (Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person attempts to look away,
this
What Is The Consolation Of Loss In A Greek Tragedy
In pieces of classical writing, including Euripides and Sophokles Greek tragedies,
as well as the more personal, philosophical writings of Seneca, Cicero, and Plutrach,
the consolation of loss is deeply interwoven with myth and drama. The idea of the
consolatio focuses on a sense of survival and endurance of grievers, and the role that
friends and loved ones play in this survival through comfort. The underlying theme in
these tragedies is that the feeling is universal, and in no way experienced alone, and
this paper will explore this concept beginning with Greek tragedy, focusing on how
these stories can console the reader, and their exploration into the loneliness of grief.
To elaborate on the Roman perspective, the techniques of Seneca and Cicero s
writings are shown to reflect and emulate these Greek ideas, demonstrating consolatio
through examples of myth and universal truths to reveal an overall similarly minded
approach to consolation in Greece and Rome.
Perhaps understandably, consolatio appears most dramatic in Greek Tragedy for
example, in Euripides Trojan Women, when Hecuba is grieving, it is evident that
she is being validated or given permission to grieve by a woman: our bitter sorrow,
/earth will now receive./ Mourn, O mother (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29).
Without this confirmation that Hecuba s grief has been recognised, received and
permitted, Hecuba has no reason to stop publicly grieving. It is also significant in
that this permission (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29) is given by another
woman, who would have appeared to the Greek audience as someone who could
understand Hecuba s grief, given woman s primary role as mother, as this loss also
means a loss of purpose in society. This is further emphasized in The Suppliant
Women, wherein the chorus expresses grief through explaining that they would have
grieved had they never married and had children, But now that my dear son is taken
from me/ my suffering is not imaginary; it is real (The Suppliant Women, 787 92).
These lines reflect the fact that although grieving what has been lost is more powerful
than the pain of having nothing to lose, when these women lose their sons, they are
also losing their purpose they once had. This

allows the teacher to check that all students understand the text. EAL/D and low

Industrial Areas From Centralization And Neoliberal...
With the start of globalization and international expansion cities became a more
significant part for various industry sectors. By 2000, more than 500 cities had
more than one million inhabitants. According to the United Nations, 54% of the
world s population currently live in urban areas. Urbanization combined with the
overall growth of the world s population could add another 2.5 billion people to
urban populations by 2050, with close to 90 percent of the increase concentrated in
Asia and Africa. This significant change of urbanization will lead to challenges in
satisfying the needs for housing, infrastructure, transportation, energy supply and
employment, as well as for basic services such as education and health care . This
report will critically discuss three key elements in relation to urbanisation: political
economy, economic growth in urban areas and urban sociology. With this
discussion, I will argue that the shift in urban areas from centralization and
neoliberal globalisation had effected society in different parts of the world
differently. Since this essay is only looking at three main aspects, this is not a
complete discussion of the matter, but it is intended to provide an insight in the
main aspects of economic development in urban areas. POLITICAL URBAN
DEVELOPMENT The study of urban politics is the study what occurs on the
ground, among people who share the same space for day to day living. This makes
the study of urban politics particularly challenging
Analysis Of The Song Thrift Shop By Macklemore And...
In our ever increasingly consumerist world, we are taught that extravagant spending
on luxury clothing is a sign of being fashionable and stylish, but Macklemore and
Ryan Lewis beg a differ in their hit song Thrift Shop. In the song, Macklemore and
Ryan Lewis illstrustates that a person can still have a unique and individualistic sense
of style while saving money by shopping at a secondhand or thrift store. During the
course of the song, Macklemore and Lewis comically recount their time shopping
together at thrift shops and recounts to audiences the unique and sometimes bizarre
finds they come across, such as flannel zebra jammies or a dookie brown leather
jacket. After successfully finding awesome secondhand ensembles, Macklemore...

These verses show that Macklemore is not afraid to show that he is man who buys
his clothes on a budget and preferences to save money by buying second apperal.
Another example of repeating verses that to make clear to listeners that
Macklemore s song is a ballad to celebrate looking good on less, is the repeated
verse I m in this big ass coat, big ass coat from that thrift shop down the road,
which puts forth that the artist is satisfied that he in the way that he looks in his
cheap, second hand clothing and wants people to know that and he wants to flaunt
it. By repeating this verse and others, Macklemore is telling his audience that he
doesn t care about how cheap his clothes are because his feels good and is saving is
hard earned cash. After a person listens to Macklemore s song, listeners get a clear
message that Macklemore take delight in looking great while spending very little
by repeating these and others verses in his hit song. Usually the main point of a
music video is to help tie into the message of the song and give listeners a clearer
perspective of what the artist is trying to convey, and that is true with the music
video of the song Thrift Shop. During the course of the video, viewers are

Lung Mesothelioma
here are various types of mesothelioma but asbestos lung mesothelioma is an asbestos
induced cancer of the mesothelium of the lung, more familiarly known as the pleura,
which is the external lining of the lung.
Many of the major organs of the body have a mesothelium, that of the heart being
called the pericardium and of the heart the peritoneum. However, it is with the pleura
that we are concerned here, and the symptoms of asbestos lung mesothelioma are
what you would expect: coughing, discomfort in the chest cavity and eventual pain.
Before we come to possible treatments and palliative care, let s have a look at what
causes it and why we are still seeing new cases today after asbestos was banned for
construction use in the 1970s.
Asbestos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its treatment is largely palliative, or intended to ease suffering, because the
prognosis is fairly grim. Only about 20% of cases live to 5 years after diagnosis,
with most surviving only one year, though much depends on how far the condition
had developed by the time it was diagnosed. Chemotherapy and radiation treatment
are used, but not successfully, and various degrees of surgery are also used.
Removal of the affected lung, pericardium and half the diaphragm is the most major
of these, and even that only extends life to a maximum of around five years from
diagnosis.
There are new treatments being tested, but all treatment is expensive, and a good
attorney is likely necessary to secure the compensation to pay for these. Ultimately
hospice care will be required and again compensation money should be kept back for
this. Ultimately, in spite of all the treatment given, it is palliative care that will make
the last days of the patient bearable, as will the help and support of the family, and
this is what compensation can fund.

African American Church Experience Paper
I am the minority of the usual church; typically I am one of four white people who
attend the 8am service. I first went with a friend s family after she had pass away. I
was never nervous about going to a predominantly African American church.
Everyone welcomed me. The family I went with had me stand up when they called
for new people to the church. It then took me 30 extra minutes to get out of the
church because everyone gave me a hug. Going into part two of this project I was
actually very nervous about going to the Korean church. I think being by myself had
a lot to do with it along with not know the language. I was very nervous about not
understanding anything that was going on. Additionally I was worried they would
not want me there.
Lady With An Erine Analysis
Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s
innovative detail to composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence
of a new style of portraiture.
In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp
demonstrates his knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and
historical input. Shell and Sironi presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s
Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the identification of the painting. The authors
of the article study physical and historical features of the painting to create meaning.
Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history, the meaning of
the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and
aristocratic value.
The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young
lady known as Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to
the side and the line of her eyes follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The
positioning of her head and eyes create a mysterious atmosphere around her. She
seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from the beholder.
Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the
opposite direction. The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the
beholder but her her gaze indicates no interest. The distance between the beholder
and her indicates that one can only admire her from afar. The ermine sits gracefully
in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts away. The ermine tilts its head to his right,
opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads reflects the dynamics and
movement of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but rather lively.
Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the
portrait look realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia
s skin against the dark background. The light brightens the entire left side of Cecilia
and the ermine, meanwhile creating shadows on the right side of her body. The
shadows, however, are soft like reflected light. The reflected light has intensity on the
bright parts of her body
Julius And Ethel Rosenberg Research Paper
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were an American couple that was charged with
espionage. The US government convicted them of being spies for the Soviet Union.
It wasn t something of a little matter. What the Rosenbergs gave, it has the power to
destroy families, towns, even major cities. They gave the Soviet Union the plans to
the atomic bomb. On the fateful day of June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg
were strapped to the electric chair and executed at a prison called Sing Sing.
Although Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were significant to the Soviet Union s
development of their atomic weaponry, their crime cost America a lot of panic, cost
the government a lot of money, and cost them their lives. Was it really worth it?
They were the most famous orphans of the cold war. (Roberts). This powerful

Harry Gold was called to the stands to testify. The police showed Gold a picture and
he was able to identify that that was the man he met. The man pictured was David

Walter Mitty Comparison
Great writings open up one s imagination. Many of these stories come to life in a
featured film but not all writers intentions are captured when creating the films and
this is where great work is lost. Short stories are concise and straight to the point.
For example, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber. This short classic,
was first published in The New Yorkerin 1939 and later on became a feature film.
Ultimately, can a short storybe successfully transformed into a film?
Walter Mitty is an elderly man who spends much of his time with his overlooking
wife meanwhile envisioning himself in different scenarios. Many of his scenarios
include becoming a pilot, soldier, and surgeon. As the story became well known,

The fight with reality and identity are clearly shown. Both Mittys have relatively
normal and typical lives. In the movie, Walter Mitty in is search for the 25th negative
film strip that is missing. The 25th film, signifies the missing piece in his life. The
part of his life in which he daydreams. All the sporadic thoughts he has in his head are
telling him to do something that makes his life more interesting, worth meaning. In
the short story, it is never fully fulfilled in reality because his thought and wife limit
him, but in the movie, the missing film pieces pushes him.
Performing great and rather life risking and dangerous tasks that have adrenaline
written all over them was what Walter Mitty was all about. There was a beautiful
quote that was brought up more than once during the movie: To see the world,
things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other
and to feel. That is the purpose of life. Either stories, whether on paper or on the
movie screen, showed that their lives where so mysterious and secretive and that was
not taken away from them by the end, as Thurber said inscrutable to the
The Devastating Power Of Pollution
The Devastating Power of Pollution Think about all the bodies of water on our
planet. Every river, lake, stream, and is essential to the way our world functions.
Unfortunately, our society has done very little to preserve these water sources and
as a result, our rivers, lakes, streams, and oceans are suffering from many forms of
pollution. Every oil spill, discarded water bottle, and obstructive dam continually add
to our already polluted waters, and very little is being done to reverse this problem.
The most prominent issue being studied today is stormwaterrunoff. The collection of
fine sediments, chemicals, and debris, are a serious pollution concern. Many
solutions and technologies have already been developed, but the number one... Show

They can range from anything such as grassed waterways and rooftops to rain
gardens strategically placed in areas of heavy storm water runoff. They can be
simple, like choosing a paint color that blends machinery into an environment, or
they can be complex like monitoring and production technologies. One of the most
effective BMPs used today are pervious surfaces. This can be applied to parking
lots, cul de sacs, and turf pavers. When a surface is porous, it reduces the amount of
stormwater runoff by absorbing the excess water into the pavement. It also doesn t
allow for the collection of sediments or other hazardous materials because the water
does not run along the asphalt.
The field of sediment pollution has many innovative solutions and techniques that
help reduce or eliminate the harmful effects of stormwater runoff. Some examples
include constructing porous asphalt, grass rooftops, riparian forest buffers (a grove
of trees and shrubs), bio retention lakes, storm water wetlands, and dry ponds (Metro
Council, nd). Each of those practices can make a dramatic change in amount of
pollution in urban and rural areas, but it is important to make sure BMPs are properly
constructed and maintained. If not, then there could be serious damage to the
environment and require great costs to the community. BMPs like to take advantage
of abundant energy sources, such as sunlight. By using a renewable
The And Republican Party Establishment
The GOP and Republican Party establishment elites are no longer on the side of the
true American. The true America is what our founding fathers had risked and gave up
so much to establish with the Declaration of Independence and the signing of The
Constitution. Unfortunately in this election cycle, the establishment has made it very
clear that they are more concerned with their political party elitist ideals than being a
representative of the American voter.
Each political party has a duty to its voter base. The duty of the modern Republican
Party, after much evolvement since its official formation just prior to the Civil War,
is supposed to stand up for conservative American values, which include, but aren t
limited to:
The Bill of Rights and The Constitution
Religious freedom and liberty, not allowing small groups who are offended by
Christianity to be able to impose their will over Christianity
Limiting government control over citizen s lives
Maintaining a strong military to protect this country from its enemies
Only authorizing a tax system that allows for prosperity and growth, not penalizing
those who succeed
The last seven plus years under a Barrack Obama presidency, the GOP and elected
Republican officials have stood by and allowed the continued downfall of America
and the American way of life. They stood by and did nothing. The Affordable Care
Act (ACA), also known as Obama Care, was passed which forced Americans to
purchase health insurance or they
Twain Vs Whitman
Mark Twain and Walt Whitman are two of America s greatest writers of the 19th
century. Their works are very well known and studied everywhere. Twain and
Whitman had different styles of writing but, they both showed many characteristics
of the American culture in their writings. Twain and Whitman both criticize America,
but have different reasons for their criticism. This following paper will address these
topics. Mark Twainmakes it clear through his work that he loves the thought of
America. Mark Twain told about and criticized characters with humor. Mark Twain
practiced Realism as a major part of his writingstyle. He did not strictly stick with
Realism, he also incorporated Romanticism in his works. In his book The Adventures

He mourns the Civil War and the deaths that came from it, especially the
assassination of Abraham Lincoln. He also blames slavery for how people are
treated, which I personally agree with. Slavery is something that should have
never been accepted as normal. Slavery made people think that it was okay to treat
others differently based on their skin tone, which is not acceptable. He questions
the ideas that society puts on the individual. In Song of Myself , he says, I wear
my hat as I please indoors or out. Why should I pray? Why should I venerate and
be ceremonious? (Norton page 37). Whitman is opposing social norms like when
it s acceptable to wear a hat inside and religion. He is saying that he can wear a hat
whenever he pleases, and he also questions why he should pray. Here he is
wondering why it is not acceptable to do certain things. Whitman, like Twain,
appreciates the land throughout America, shown in Song for Myself. He thinks
about how much land there must be in the world, and what all could be living in it.
He is amazed by how much there is in the world. A child asks him what grass is
and he does not know how to answer. He says that the grass is made by God and
describes it beautifully by saying the Lord drops it like a perfumed handkerchief .
Whitman discusses America s urban environment more than Twain. He loved urban
life because it
Living On Minimum Wage Should Be Hard For Many
People
Living on minimum wage can be hard for many people. I have lived on minimum
wage since I was sixteen years old. When I started working for seven dollars and
fifty cents an hour I was ecstatic because I had money. Then, when my parents told
me that I had to start paying my bills I realized that working for a low wagewas not
so fun. Working was hard for me because I was not only working but also going to
school and playing sports. Since I was not getting very many hours due to my busy
schedule I was able to pay my bills and then had a little extra cash for whatever I
thought I needed. I have lived on minimum wagefor many years, but I am not a
single mother living on minimum wage like many women in America. In the book
Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich witnessed the struggles many of the single
mothers witness every day. Ehrenreich lived like many women did for two years
and she realized that living on minimum wage is nearly impossible in today s
world. Throughout Ehrenreich s book she showed how impossible living on the low
wages was. She discusses many hard times that she went through. Ehrenreich went
into her journey will a little of a background because she has written many articles
about poverty. Also, Ehrenreich came from a family of the working class because
her father was a copper miner and did not make much money. Ehrenreich discusses
ethos, which is establishing credibility. She gives credibility by telling us, the readers

The Weimar Republic Essay
The Weimar Republic The Weimar Republic was set up in January 1919. It seemed
like a new start for Germany after the revolution, this new republic was a democracy,
chosen by the people. However, the Weimar Republic, like many new parliaments,
was having teething troubles.
The main trouble came from the communists. In March they organised strikes,
demonstrations, riots, etc. in Berlin. Their one aim, to win power. They wanted to
model Germany on Bolshevik Russia.
The Weimar Republics solution to this problem was to send in the Freikorps. They
were ordered to shoot anyone carrying a gun. During just a few days ... Show more

The Weimar Republic did not like this system and thus Munich was put under siege.
Food was not allowed in and at one time giving milk to a person who wasn t dying
was a criminal offence with death being the punishment. On 1 May, the democratic
socialists invaded, not sparing a single communist. 600 men, women and children
were killed. Of course again the main brunt of the attack had been supplied by the
Freikorps.
The politically unstable infancy of the Weimar Republic is marked by violent street
demonstrations by paramilitary organisations bitterly opposed to the new Weimar
constitution. This political unrest in Germany and the immediate aftermath of the
war was as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, where the victorious Allies imposed
the terms of peace on Germany. Apart from the territorial loses (Germany lost 6
million subjects, 13% of her territory, plus her colonies) imposed on her and the
massive, economically crippling, sums of reparations that she was forced to pay to
the Allies (notably France), Germany, by Article 231 of the treaty, also had to
accept the blame for all the loss and damage inflicted on the Allies as a consequence
of the war imposed on them by the aggression of Germany and her allies . This was
deeply humiliating for Germany, and was the cause of much right wing resentment of
the treaty and of the victorious Allies. The new Weimar government
Short Story Essay on Canadian Racial Diversity (Citing...
Often perceived as a group of tyrannical oppressors, the white people have firmly
established their gruesome and discriminatory image through the bloody history of its
dictatorship over racial minorities. Although it is true to some extent that White
people were biased and unjust to other races, it is obvious that the intransigent
mindset of the native Indian people have also contributed to the intense enmity
between the two races. Harold Cardinal, once president of the Indian Association of
Alberta, had inaccurately accused Caucasian Canadians in The Mystery of the White
Man . He had described White men as a group of bigoted, corrupted rapists and
portrayed the Indians as some guiltless victims of the depraved White society

These examples of White criminals made his claim seemingly powerful as it was
truthful that there are many criminals who are White but really, it is just as easy to
come up with a list of Asians, Blacks, and Latinos who are lawbreakers, rapists, and
law rigging judges. In The Loons , the half breed girl Piquette Tonnerre spent a
month with the MacLeods, a Caucasian family on a holiday. During that period, the
doctor s daughter Vanessa was trying to make friends with Piquette but she was
rejected and ignored by the narrow minded, over defensive Piquette. Vanessa is an
example of the open minded, culture exchanging Whites Cardinal described at the
end of The Mystery of the White Man (Cardinal, 200). Vanessa was one of those who
have offered their culture and heritage; she was striving to discover the foreign
ethnicity of the Indians but the cynical, self protective Piquette had refused to
befriend her. Both of the stories Akua Nuten and The Loons have reflected the fact
that White people do try to reach out and discover the Indian culture. Nevertheless,
they were either neglected by the unsociable Piquette or frightened at gunpoint by the
racist Kukatso (Theriault, 128). Varying from the friendly and submissive attitude
Cardinal described all Indians to have, Piquette was antagonistic and ignorant to learn
or accept the White culture. Much like one of those
Dr. Strangelove And The Cold War
The Cold War was a period of several decades of tension and the threat of nuclear
conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S.
and the Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop
Worrying and Love the Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying
themes of the Cold Warin a comedic fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold
War is seen through its representation of the time period, and the sheer
competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to many of
Kubrick s movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand
the pure absurdity that the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. Strangelove,

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in
cases involving nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are very complex, with many
scenarios that could potentially occur. After General Ripper has directed his plane
to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process to one of his officers, ...when
[the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the wing there
will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Later, General Buck
Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in the war
room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was one possible
solution that could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles;
however, this strategy is frowned upon and dismissed by the President as it would
reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust
between the conflicting nations. In a scene where a Russian ambassador is being
brought into the war room, General Turgidson is disturbed by having all of the U.S.
plans open in front of the enemy. He exclaims to the U.S. President, Sir, you can t
let him in here. He ll see everything. He ll see the big board! Suddenly, the camera

Labor Relations Office Manager Human Resources Department Interview
The objective of this work in writing is to conduct an interview with a labor relations
office manager in the HR department of a company. For this purpose, the following
questions were posed and answers provided.
Question What is the role of the labor relations manager and their staff in regards to
the industrial relations labor pogrom?
Answer When a collective bargaining agreement is up for negotiation, labor relations
specialists prepare information for management to use during negotiation, which
requires familiarity with economic and wage data as well as extensive knowledge of
labor law and collective bargaining trends. The labor relations staff interprets and
administers the contract with respect to grievances, wages and salaries, employee
welfare, health care, pensions, union and management practices, and other
contractual stipulations. As union membership is continuing to decline in most
industries, industrial relations personnel are working more with employees who are
not members of a labor union. (Heathfield, 2011)
Question What is the domain of the labor relations manager in the company?
Answer The labor relations role is typically making provision of advise to
managers in regards to labor relations issues that arise in their areas of
responsibility. The workforce in this company is comprised by employees
represented by unions and other employees who are not union represented as well as

In United Kingdom, they forecast that Subway will have more stores than
McDonald s by 2008 (Kemp 2007). Much of Subway s success can be attributed to
its strong health message and with many cultures in the middle of wellness boom
(Bounds, 2006). People now want fast food without the fat.
Globally, there is an increasing health problem related to weight and obesity.
Research findings by the Better Health Channel (cited in Subway research
contained in Appendix One) revealed that obesity is now a major societal issue
with rates of obesity/overweight people rising from 52% of adult males in 1998 to
68% in 2000. The corresponding figures for females told a similar story with an
increase from 36% to 53% for the same time frame. Inferences were made that fatty,
unhealthy food was no longer acceptable and that competitors were beginning to
move in on Subway s territory.
Traditionally, the fast food industry has been associated with the cause of this health
related issue (Boyle 2004). Major fast food companies have been called to Federal
Government summits to improve the quality of junk food (Wright 2007). While most
of these major companies have now taken
The Effect Of Wind Energy s Effect On Wind Power
One fact that investors will likely consider, is the debate over the effect of wind
inconsistency, as well as wind speed on the effectiveness and overall power
generation by a wind farm. This is a significant consideration that many may not
think of upon first learning of wind power as a potential resource. Research on the
effect of wind speed on wind powergeneration was performed by Eric Wright who
states that wind speed had little effect on power generation on South African wind
turbines (Wright 2017). In fact, although climate change has led to an overall
decrease in wind speeds globally, the power generation was affected, at most 3.8
percent, and at the least 0.9 percent, which overall does not account for a large
enough percentage to cause concern over when considering investment (Wright
2017). Consistency is another aspect of wind power which makes it yet more
alluring over fossil fuels, which are dwindling in supply, and lacking in consistency.
The use of fossil fuels has led to global warming and climate change due to the
carbon dioxide emitted when they are burned as fuel. Fossil fuels are created over
thousands of years, and once they are used, they are gone forever. Due to this and
their continued use over hundreds of years, they are becoming short in supply. They
are becoming more expensive as they become rarer and it no longer makes economic
sense to invest in the use or production of fossil fuel power plants. On top of that their
use is hurting the Earth and

Empress Theodora and Queen Elizabeth I Throughout history women have often

Wright s Visions of Jesus in his Book, Who Was Jesus
But who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:15). Two thousand years ago, Jesus asked
his followers. Who he really was? Tom Wright, who lives in 21st century, asks again.
In this book, Wright puts the reader on a time machine and brings them back to
Palestine, 1st century and starts the story of historical Jesus. Wright directly goes into
the Gospels and talks about Jesus. Put down the ambition of Jews, take away the
mystery of history, break the rule of religion, and at the moment when you realize
about Jesus real desire, we finally can feel and see the real Jesus. Throughout this
book, we discover questions such as Who did Jesus think he was, what was Jesus
trying to accomplish and why did he try to do that. Wright not only tries to prove
who Jesus is in a theological way but also explains who Jesus was in Jesus world.
For both people in Jesus time period and people in today, Jesus was foreign and
was different than what people thought as a God . Because of this, we missed the
fact that Jesus was standing in the middle of history, culture, and religion. In the
Bible, Jesus came to this land as a king and as a Messiah. But what is the relationship
between Jesus and us?
According to Wright, Jesus is bigger than we and the church can even imagine and
people today do not take him seriously. Also, people today are underestimating
Jesus. God did not come to teach people how to go to heaven, but to teach that God
is trying to be a king of this land and if people pray for
Feral Swine Case Study
Feral swine are a growing concern for managers across the United States as they
cause damage to the environment, wildlife and livestock depredation, and are
transmitters for disease. While both lethal and non lethal strategies have been
used to eliminate populations of feral swine, lethal approaches tend to work best,
leading Dr. Snow and his team to develop a toxicant comprised of sodium nitrite to
control this species. To integrate this toxicant into management practices, the
product must pass four criteria set by the EPA: 1) create a stable bait source the
target will consume; 2) have a 70% efficacy rate in the field and a 90% efficacy rate
in captivity; 3) provide little evidence of secondary hazards; and 4) supply the
toxicant in a reliable
Australian Informal Language Analysis
As Australians we have a propensity to bend and break rules of standard language so
it is more playful and reflective of our boisterous national identity. In doing so,
language can gain the power to shock, offend and threaten social harmony. To an
extent, this is prevalent in Australian Informal language however, it is important to
recognise how informal languagecan promote solidarity. Through the use of
morphology, lexicology, syntax and semantics informal language can be used to
educate and inform other about taboo topics, emphasise the purpose of life and to
remind Australians about road safety.
Recently, Katie Duncan, a 25 year old Melbournian has hit to Facebook to remind
her fellow Australian females the importance of getting a pap smear. Her use of
euphemisms and word play have contributed to the vernacular of her post,
becoming a major factor for its going viral. Duncan s use of euphemisms such as
lady garden and her play on words like I m about to cervix you all some health chat
realness... all help create a witty sense of humour around the sensitive topic, helping
strengthen social bonds and harmony as well as emphasising social niceties.
Duncans s post also contains expletives such as c*nt*, however the context in which

The Breeds Of Canadian Horses
In 1986, there was a program, which was incited in order to protect rare breeds. The
program was named Colonial Williamsburg s Rare Breeds Program. The program
included: Leicester Longwool Sheep, American Cream Draft Horses, Canadian
Horses, American Milking Devons, Durham and Devon or Lineback Oxen,
Dominique Chickens, Nankin Bantams Chickens, and English Game Fowl.
The Leicester Longwool Sheep originally came from Britain, and were then brought
over to America. Not only were they exported to America, but to New Zealand,
colonies by Crown, and Australia. Leicester Longwool Sheep are known for their
long coats, which drape over their body. The American Cream Draft Horses breed
actually originated here in the United States of America. This is the rarest breed in
the Colonial Williamsburg Program. The Canadian Horses originated in France.
They were then exported to Quebec, Canada. These horses were utilized as means
of transportation, as well as field work in farms. Canadian Horses are known to be
black and brown. American Milking Devon s milk was used to make butter and
cheese. These animals originally came from Britain s breed Red Devon. The
Durham and Devon or Lineback Oxen originally came from England. They were
utilized in America as transportation, tractors and for field work in farms. These
breeds are also classified as some of the rarest. The Dominique Chickens originated in
the United States of America. They work well in winter temperatures. Nankin

The San Antonio Museum Of Art
Before going to the San Antonio Museum of Art I searched their website to get an
idea of the paintings displayed. One stood out to me online however, it wasn t until I
saw it in person the magnitude of the true beauty of the painting. Martin Johnson
Heade s, Passion Flowers with Three Hummingbirds, exudes something special to vis
ualize not only for its bright floral colors, but the heart of the painting is the three
hummingbirds in their natural element. I ve always loved nature, and have enjoyed
some bird watching in my time. This would be a type of painting I would hang in my
home, as the birds symbolize tranquility and peace in nature; doing what they do
naturally. They equate the miracle of life in not only the birds, but the flora and fauna
around them; with the sky illuminating in the background. Heade was heavily
influenced by his surroundings. He was vastly interested from a very early age in
hummingbirds and their effect on natural selection and their environment (St.
Rosemary Educational Institution). His aspirations from Charles Darwin led him to
the tropics where he painted several humming bird and orchid paintings as his subject
matter, including Passion Flower with Three Hummingbirds. This set of genre
paintings of tropical subjects depicted his interest in mood and lightinstead of
topographically accurate views ( Martin Johnson HeadeBiography ). Heade had a
fascination with how light interacted with the environment (St. Rosemary Educational
Examples Of Fatal Flaws In The Once And Future King
The Fatal Flaws of Characters in the Arthurian Legend
Many characters in stories have one fatal flaw that can eventually lead to his or her
downfall. In The Once and Future King by T.H. White and The Mists of Avalon by
Marion Zimmer Bradley, the love triangle between King Arthur, Guinevere, and
Lancelot is revealed. Guinevere is married to Arthur, but she has feelings for Lancelot
who is Arthurs most trusted knight. Each of these three characters have
characteristics that could be their fatal flaw. The fatal flaws of King Arthur,
Guinevere, and Lancelot all contribute in one way or another, to Arthur s downfall.
Arthur s fatal flaw is outlined in his early years of growing up, in Book One of The
Once and Future King. His parents leave him so he is adopted by Sir Ector who also

Her marriage to Arthur is an arranged marriage, so she didn t have any say in the
decision. Although she is married to Arthur, she also has affections for Sir
Lancelot. Why do you think I am any more happy or contented than you? she
demanded, her voice shaking. At least you can choose whether to stay or to go,
but I was given into Arthur s hands without even so much as will you or no? Nor
can I rise and ride forth from court when things go not to my will, but must stay
here within walls and do what is expected of me ... if you must go, I cannot say,
Stay; and if you stay, I cannot say to you, Go! At least you are free to go or to stay
as makes you happiest! (The Mists of Avalon). She loves Arthur as well as
Lancelot, but her love for Lancelot is romantic, unlike Arthur s. Guinevere is also
childish in a sense that she lets lust override her loyalty to Arthur. She ignores the
guilt she feels for her affair with Lancelot and constantly craves to be with him. Her
love for Sir Lancelot causes her to make bad decisions and they affect everyone
around her. Guinevere s lust blinds her and contributes to Arthur s
Pep Band Persuasive Essay
Everybody loves pep assemblies, don t you!? Usually consisting of the band
playing music, people cheering, and the athletes being praised for their hard work
and wished good luck, pep assemblies are a lot of fun and a good way to come
together and get excited about something. However, athletes these days always
receive full attention, and are provided all the support they need in order to be
successful, whether it s physical or psychological. What about other sport like
activities, such as concert and pep band? I consider band to be like a sport, though
not many people do. Like athletes, we practice every day, learn new techniques, and
cooperate with other peers to achieve one main goal. So why isn t there any
assemblies focusing on the accomplishments, and contest to come, for all the
musically talented kids in our school. Yes, football has games and plays against other
teams, but so does the band. We attend nearly every gameto not only support the

Football is challenged to play against teams all around Washington; that s not the
same as music! Music doesn t have state competitions, right? Wrong. Every year,
our band takes part in a competition before Mass band, and all year we practice,
getting ready to play in front of judges who will determined who executed their
performance well. Other schools are included and compete against each other, it s
not just us. Additionally, every year, we have Solo and Ensemble. Solo and
Ensemble is literally State Competition, but for musicians. Individuals or small
groups are challenged to perfect and play pieces of music, and compete with
thousands of other students for one position. Last year my sister and I took part and

The Canterbury Cathedral Essay
The Canterbury Cathedral
For at least fourteen hundred years the worship of God has been offered on the site
of this Cathedral, and through the prayers of the Church his power and grace have
shaped human lives. Ever since the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in the
Cathedral in 1170, Canterbury has attracted thousands of pilgrims. This tradition
continues to this day, and a large team of Welcomers, Guides, Cathedral Assistants
and Chaplains are there to give all visitors a warm welcome.

Benedict as a formal monastic community. The Benedictine community of monks
continued until the monastery was dissolved in 1540.
The next year a new Foundation, called the Dean and Chapter, was constituted by
Royal Charter. Today there is a Dean and four Residentiary Canons in the Chapter,
who, with the Precentor, make up the establishment of full time clergy.
Canterbury Cathedral is linked to the lives of many great ecclesiastical and national
figures. Among the former are the Saints of Canterbury Augustine, Theodore, Odo,
Dunstan, Alphege, Anselm, Thomas and Edmund all of whom were Archbishops of
Canterbury and held in universal respect.
The one who became most famous of all was Thomas Becket, who was murdered
in his cathedral on 29 December 1170. Appointed by his King and friend, Henry II,
to bring the Church to the heel of the monarchy, he did the reverse. He espoused its
rights in the face of the King s desire to control them.
Four knights, with their own agendas of complaint, thinking to ingratiate themselves
with the King, came to Canterbury and killed the Archbishop in his own Cathedral.
In the Reformation period Canterbury had a series of distinguished Archbishops,
among them Thomas Cranmer, who compiled the first two Prayer Books and
established what was to become the liturgical tradition of the Church of England and
Anglican Churches the world over.
Cardinal Pole was Archbishop during the reign of
The Globalization of the World Social Forum Essay
What is globalization to you? Are you in favor of, against, or simply indifferent to
globalization? As we move further into the twenty first century, we find ourselves
easily attracted to catch phrases and popular movements of the time. In the last ten
years, the term globalization has emerged as a buzzword among those in both the
economic and social spheresof daily life. Usually, with every movement comes a form
of resistance, therefore, somewhat appropriately, with globalization comes anti
globalization. Many actorsare associated with both the globalization movement and
its opposite, among which are individuals, states, and various organizations. The two
actors that most intrigued and puzzled me were, what seemed to me, to be... Show

The WSF, in a span of two years, has mobilized hundreds of thousands of people all
over the globe, towards a movement which originated with the purpose of standing
in opposition to the WEF. Since the first world encounter in 2001, the WSF has
evolved into an ongoing global gathering of social movements, Non Governmental
Organizations (NGOs), and other civil society organizations who oppose an
international neo liberal economic regime characterized by corporate led
globalization and economic imperialism, and who come together to propose ideas,
deliberate democratically, formulate alternatives, and share their experiences. It
appeared that the WSF was in fact using the process of globalization itself as their
means to combat the WEF. It seemed to me to be too contradictory not to explore.
This led me to ask myself, Does the World Social Forum, with its aim to stand in
opposition to globalization and the World Economic Forum, in fact actually
contribute to the globalization movement? This is the question I will be addressing in
this paper.
THEORY
Globalization has certainly been among the most widely used and misused
keywords in disputes of recent years, and will most likely continue to be during the
coming years as well. However, it is also one of the most rarely defined, the most
nebulous and misunderstood, as well as the most politically effective.
Critical Theories Of Reader-Response Theory
People start to express and exchange their opinions about art or literature works and
try to understand the deeper meaning of them with the development of the society.
Different critical theories that are introduced during this semester in Critical
Inquiry have been built based on various of society events or issues in different
periods. After getting in touch with each popular theory, Reader Response Theory,
in the personal opinion, has become one of the commonest theories since it only
considers the personal experience of the readers and how it connects to the work;
the readers would receive different messages and come up with their personal
thoughts and comments toward what they read, see or watch. Different from African
American Theory or LGBTQ Theory, Reader Response Theory does not have a
limitation on the subject position or cultural background because the comments and
thoughts are based on the readers personal experience and from their own view
points, and this characteristic will always benefit people not only in college but also
in their entire life by expanding their horizons and helping them to find and
understand their own lens in professional practices. In Lois Tyson s Using Critical
Theory, she explains that Reader Response Theory is something interesting or useful
about ourselves (13). Although there are several types of Reader Response Theory
focusing on different fields, when people come up with their reflections about a
work, they are led by a
Using Encryption Algorithms That Can Be Used For...
With the emergence of rapid growth in technology in our society today, there is an
enormous amount of data that is being stored. However, an important question to ask
is how is sensitive or important data being protected. One popular method that is
currently used for protecting data is through encryption, which is the process of
converting data to an unrecognizable or encrypted form. 1 This process ensures that
only authorized individuals have access to the confidential encrypted message.
Encryption can be applied to files, folders, storage devices, or entire volumes.
Although encryption can be used to protect a variety of data types, there are many
different encryption algorithms that can be used. The most common and popular
encryption algorithms that are used include hashing, symmetric methods, and
asymmetric methods. It is important to comprehend the underlying terminology, in
order to gain a deeper understanding of the different types of encryption algorithms
that is a component for electronic data security. 5 Cryptology deals with the science
and mathematics that is behind the procedures and methods of secret communication.
This is not to be confused with the term encryption, which focuses on the actual
ciphering, or altering of the message to a secret form. Whereas decryption is the
process of decoding a distorted messages into something intelligible. A key is
mathematical value, such as a password or complex mathematical computations that
are used to

  • 3. The Deaths Of Women During Ciudad Juarez In general those who live in Ciudad Juarez know about the recurring murders over the past decade involving women. Despite of that there are still millions that are oblivious to this occurring or choose to ignore it. It also gets less talked about comparing to other issues occurring around the world. Those who choose to talk about the subject eventually give up because they saw no immediate results or any progress at all. As stated before some chose to ignore the issue because they felt it was the easy way out and had fear of their own lives as well. Especially, the residents of Ciudad Juarez were in fear to speak of it because they felt they would put their lives endangered. However, to truly understand the severity and seriousness of this subject like many other issues you need to have some idea of how and why it started and the history or facts surrounding the issue. That is why the main focus is finding the factors that may have contributed to the recurring murders of women in Ciudad Juarez. Moreover, the effects of the murders on the victim families, the public in general, and the city. Also finding if there were any motives behind the murders of the women. Lastly, finding if there are any solutions for the murders to come to an end, any way to deter people from doing it, and has there been something done in the past decade to tackle the murders from happening again. There has been debates and deliberations on how and when the series murders of women began, but
  • 4. Du Fu Research Paper Du Fu: Making the Best of Bad Times Du Fu was one of the greatest poets of China. Living during the Tang Dynasty, a golden age for literacy, poetry, and the civil service examination, Du Fu flourished as a poet. Although he was a civil servant for a great part of his life, it was not until the An Lushan Rebellion, which began in 755, that Du Fu s career as a poet really began. Because the aesthetic behind his poetry was history and morality, Du Fu used the war and all bad that was around him to become a great poet and influence many people. Du Fu became one of China s greatest poets because his poetry gave insight of history and life during the Tang Dynasty as well as calligraphy, domestic life, and military tactics. Du Fu gave contributed to Chinese literature in his times, but also in the times to come. Du Fu had an extensive a certain pattern in his verses; his poems were inspired by journeys and experiences. He also wrote many of his poems to people around him, such as friends and relatives. • 5. The Effects of Harriet Bird, Memo Paris, and Iris Lemon in... In The Natural by Bernard Malamud, the main character, Roy Hobbs joins the New York Knights with an uncontrollable desire to be the best, at first in baseball, but later on in other aspects of his life. Roy is unable to control his appetites, one of them being for women. Roy is considerably influenced not by stereotypical fatherly figures, but rather women, namely Harriet Bird, Memo Paris, and Iris Lemon. While Harriet and Memo are not positive influences, and only wishes ill of Roy, Iris certainly is a positive influence, and cares about Roy, liking him from the start. Harriet and Memo does not care about Roy, the two women only leads him on to further their own goals. On the other hand, Iris does care about Roy, she is concerned about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (71, Malamud) Roy falls in love with Memo because she once belonged to Bump, whom Roy knew from the start that he would never like and constantly competed with in baseball because both men had the same goal. (54, Malamud) Furthermore, Roy wants Memo because he is unable to control his appetite for women. To Roy she is the ultimate accomplishment, or the epitome of perfection. Roy pursues Memo even though she gives him obvious hints that she isn t interested in him, informing him she is strictly a dead man s girl. Memo is not at all the nurturing life force that Roy, as a symbolic vegetative god, should be with. Not only is her breast is sick, but her claim to be strictly a dead man s woman, symbolically refers dead men or those with no life in them. (84, Malamud) The thing Memo offers Roy is the option is to sell his promising future to the Judge. Only then, when Roy has sacrificed his talent and ability for money, he can be with Memo. Memos only virtue is her attractiveness, she is gloomy, given to melodrama, and many corrupt men surrounds her. She takes away life, even as she attracts Roy; she drains away Roy s energy while giving him none in return. Her uncle, Pop Fisher, warns Roy to stay away from Memo, telling Roy, she is always dissatisfied and will snarl you up in her trouble in a way that will weaken your strength if you dont watch out. (Malamud, 120) On Roys first and only date with Memo, they drive out of the
  • 6. Zoos And Conservation For Animals For most of the wild things on Earth, the future must depend upon the conscience of mankind, said by ecologist and pioneering conservationist Archie Carr. Humanity has vast amounts of responsibilities and one of those responsibilities is to take care of the wild animals in our world. However, is keeping wild animals in captivity really the best way to take care of them? A zooor aquarium is an establishment that maintains a collection of wild animals, in enclosures, to display to the public. The American public loves to visit zoos and aquariums because they believe it s educational and they ll be able to see animals from a variety of continents. The concepts of zoos and aquariums have been around for centuries and the standard of care... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Miller) Obviously, a zoo cannot provide adequate space to emulate an elephant s natural habitat and often leaves them with a lack of exercise, causing arthritis from standing on the same hard surface for hours. Similarly with aquariums, even the largest, most well maintained aquariums cannot compare with the endless amount of space in the ocean. It is easy to see that by these standards, zoos and aquariums cannot sufficiently care for the animals that they hold in captivity. Being imprisoned in small cages or enclosures can drive an animal crazy and lead to a disorder called zoochosis, which is the abnormal behavior of animals because they have been kept in captivity. Animals that suffer from zoochosis act very strangely by pacing back and forth repetitively or by even biting or scratching themselves out of boredom and frustration. I personally have observed this behavior at the San Diego Zoo, two tiger cubs were isolated in a pitifully small room that resembled nothing like the tropical forests that they would live in the wild. These cubs cried out in distress and paced back and forth continuously from being kept in the same room for many hours. Also in 1990, a polar bear in the Central Park Zoo named Gus, alarmed visitors by compulsively swimming figure eights in his pool, sometimes for twelve hours a day. He also stalked children from his underwater viewing area. His behavior became so abnormal and frightening that the zoo put
  • 7. The Servant As Leader By Robert Greenleaf The Successful Servant Leader Servant leadership, as it applies to the modern world, is a concept that Robert Greenleaf defined in his influential 1970 essay, The Servant as Leader. Greenleaf s essay explains that servant leadership is an amalgam of concrete leadership styles and fragments of data that came to him through intuitive insight (1970). Having worked at AT T from 1926 1964, he accumulated a number of leadershipqualities throughout his professional career. After retirement he began teaching at Harvard Business School, but became distressed by younger generations and their rebellious attitudes. After careful consideration, he decided institutions were doing a poor job of serving, so they were doing a poor job of leading. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The servant leader will communicate diplomatically and carefully (Marquis Huston, 2015). The servant leader has moral maturity and thinks, acts, and judges ethically with a strong sense of self (Liden, et al, 2014). The list can be enhanced depending on the situation, but as a nursing student, there are characteristics I value as the most important servant leader qualities. The Three Most Important Servant Leadership Characteristics The field of nursing is one of the quintessential servant roles in our society today. We serve by taking care of our patient s physical and mental (and sometimes spiritual) health. As a nursing student, there are three main characteristics that I have seen modeled in leaders that I think are most important to a servant leader s success. In my own practice, I hope to focus on all servant leader characteristics, but these in particular as I strive for a lengthy and fulfilling career. Firstly, it is not enough to be a good listener, one has to be an active and deep listener, with the true ability to understand what the other person is saying (Marquis Huston, 2015). A servant leader does not interrupt to argue, validate, or refute points, but allows free expression of the person to whom they are listening (Hunter, 1998). This demonstrates a contemplative as opposed to a reactive style, which builds trust with other people. When we have truly understood and not just heard our patient,
  • 8. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mag Welding Discussions The relative merits and demerits of TIG welding techniques with respect to the AA5083 H321 alloy are discussed here. Effect of Mg vaporization on Yield Stress: The concentration of Mg (wt.%) in the fusion zone is 2.55 % (Table 4.4), which is lower than that in the base metal (4.214 %) (Table 3.1) due to the evaporation of Mg during the welding process. Since Mg is the important strengthening element in Al Mg alloys, the concentration reduction of Mg should be responsible for the yield stress decrease of TIG welded joint. Effect of Mn and Fe vaporization on Yield Stress: Moreover the Al6(Fe,Mn) particles distribute heterogeously in the base metal, as shown in Fig.3.8(b), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reduction in the chemical composition of the vaporizing element viz., Mn and Fe has normally caused dissolution of Al6 (Fe, Mn) particles in the higher incident power laser beam welding. The hardness values of LB welded joint at 3.5 kW are less than that of the base metal because of the absence of the higher hardness intermetallic compounds. This observation of absence of the various particles in the weldzone and HAZ was correlating with earlier observation done by Moon and Metzbower (1983). Moon and Metzbower have found that only 5 % of the precipitates were remaining in the LB weld zone compared to the base metal. Effect of defect on yield stress and tensile strength: The porous cross section at 3 kW LB weld reduced the tensile properties. Reduction of porosity in the subsequent LB welds at 3.25 kW and 3.5 kW increases the tensile properties. The reduced cross sectional area of the LB weld act as stress raiser and decrease in tensile properties has been observed. The fine grains formed due to LB welding generally increasee the tensile properties. Due to combined effect of fine grains and stress concentration at the cross section, a minimum decrease of 15 % was observed in tensile properties at 3.5 kW incident power LB
  • 9. Sound Is All Around Us By Jason Torres States Sound is very important in our lives, we need it to talk, sing, and for some animals for food. But have you ever wondered how sound works? Well, there are two main reasons because of energy and we are able to understand what does. without these two elements, sound would not be as important as it is. One reason why soundis essential to us is because it is energy. You might think something else but sound is really just energy. The article, Sound is All around us, written by Jason Torres states, energy is released in the form of vibrations. The vibrations emit from whatever has made the sound in what is known as a longitudinal wave. So as basic as it is sound is just energy being released in the form of vibrations. The second reason

  • 12. Rhetorical Analysis Of Fredrick Douglas s Speech Fredrick Douglas, a freed slave, delivered a speech on July fourth 1852. This speech highlighted the hypocrisy of the United States and revealed how citizens, slaves in particular, perceived Independence Day. Douglas s speech exposed the nation, with a well constructed argument that effectively solidified the main and most important point. Douglas used several rhetorical strategies throughout his speech to argue his side. Fredrick Douglas used the rhetorical devices, ethos to gain credibility, allusions to show comparisons, and pathos to spark an emotional response in his speech to defend his claim about the hypocrisy of Independence Day. Douglas was the first African American citizen to hold a high U.S. government rank. Douglas gained recognition by being an abolitionist, journalist, and powerful speaker, he was also born a slave. These two highly contradictory characteristics gave him an edge when delivering his Fourth of July speech. Douglas began his speech by asking, ...why am I called upon to speak here today? What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? By asking two rhetorical questions, Douglas allowed his audience to contemplate. This contemplation leads to the realization, for most, that Douglas has more than enough credibility to be presenting and speaking. Douglas establishes his importance and credibility in the first two lines of his speech. Another way he established credibility is by making himself cohesive with the audience. In the second paragraph Douglas says, Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, than an affirmative answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. In the mid 1800 s religion was an overwhelmingly large piece of people s lives. By referring to religion Douglas can establish that he is a godly man and can be trusted. He also established a connection to a large part of his audience by just mentioning God. Throughout the introduction to Douglas s speech, he built up his credibility and allows himself to appeal to more of the audience by using ethos. This credibility not only created a concrete connection with the white audience, but also with the African American audience. By doing this, Douglas allowed himself to appeal to a

Prohibition was another law passed that had horrible repercussions. Prohibition was originally passed due to family violence, high substance abuse rates, and political corruption. Due to the complete ban of production nationwide, importation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, a window of opportunity was opened for organized crimesyndicates to take control of the black market. The demand for alcohol was still there. Smuggling, bootlegging and rum running started flooding the illegal markets in the U.S in the early 1920 s. Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants who had recently migrated to the U.S saw prohibition as an opportunity to make a decent living in their new country, despite it being illegal. Politicians also saw this as a get rich quick scheme, with blatant disregard for their roles in political office. Corruption in the U.S government was at an all time high rate due to bribes and less than discreet arm bending from organized crime figures. Another negative aspect of prohibition was its impact on society due to the influx of prophets now made by black hats and organized crime syndicates. They now controlled labor unions, police departments, and huge corporations and systems in place thus propagating inequality amongst Americans. Many famous organized crime syndicates and figures came to power in the prohibition era. Prohibition created another

Using downward directed and peripheral vision to see clothing, shoes, tattoos, a weapon, and as much of the robber as possible is less likely to escalate the event.7 Some pharmacies have a no escalation policy, encouraging employees to not do anything that would anger the robber and perhaps make the situation more dangerous than it already is. • 16. Analysis Of The Hurt Locker The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a loaded comment that forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires the viewer to identify what makes a good war film: is it the action, the heroism, the filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these things are important to consider when determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The Hurt Lockeris one of the greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side, how it removes the mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a realistic hero that one could hope to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker should be considered great is because of its accurate portrayal about the horrors of war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states, [War] is peddled by mythmakers historians, war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the state... that war as displayed by the entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet and it is because of this that the masses get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3, 84). The Hurt Locker does the opposite of that, director Kathryn Bigelowdecides not to follow the typical structure of a war movie and elects to include the graphic images and sounds that remove the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare. Specifically, the scene that stands out is when Staff Sargent William James finds the body of a boy who strongly resembles a friend named Beckham, which has been turned into a body bomb. Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being stuffed with explosives, and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to use a variety of close up and medium shots to include the reaction that Will and his squad have while staring at the body (Corrigan 2015). This alone is enough to make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly excels is during Will s removal of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us up from the typical film is the deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84). Bigelow accomplishes this during the bomb removal by adding a loud snap every time Will cuts a suture (Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person attempts to look away, this
  • 17. What Is The Consolation Of Loss In A Greek Tragedy In pieces of classical writing, including Euripides and Sophokles Greek tragedies, as well as the more personal, philosophical writings of Seneca, Cicero, and Plutrach, the consolation of loss is deeply interwoven with myth and drama. The idea of the consolatio focuses on a sense of survival and endurance of grievers, and the role that friends and loved ones play in this survival through comfort. The underlying theme in these tragedies is that the feeling is universal, and in no way experienced alone, and this paper will explore this concept beginning with Greek tragedy, focusing on how these stories can console the reader, and their exploration into the loneliness of grief. To elaborate on the Roman perspective, the techniques of Seneca and Cicero s writings are shown to reflect and emulate these Greek ideas, demonstrating consolatio through examples of myth and universal truths to reveal an overall similarly minded approach to consolation in Greece and Rome. Perhaps understandably, consolatio appears most dramatic in Greek Tragedy for example, in Euripides Trojan Women, when Hecuba is grieving, it is evident that she is being validated or given permission to grieve by a woman: our bitter sorrow, /earth will now receive./ Mourn, O mother (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29). Without this confirmation that Hecuba s grief has been recognised, received and permitted, Hecuba has no reason to stop publicly grieving. It is also significant in that this permission (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29) is given by another woman, who would have appeared to the Greek audience as someone who could understand Hecuba s grief, given woman s primary role as mother, as this loss also means a loss of purpose in society. This is further emphasized in The Suppliant Women, wherein the chorus expresses grief through explaining that they would have grieved had they never married and had children, But now that my dear son is taken from me/ my suffering is not imaginary; it is real (The Suppliant Women, 787 92). These lines reflect the fact that although grieving what has been lost is more powerful than the pain of having nothing to lose, when these women lose their sons, they are also losing their purpose they once had. By 2000, more than 500 cities had more than one million inhabitants. According to the United Nations, 54% of the world s population currently live in urban areas. Urbanization combined with the overall growth of the world s population could add another 2.5 billion people to urban populations by 2050, with close to 90 percent of the increase concentrated in Asia and Africa. This significant change of urbanization will lead to challenges in satisfying the needs for housing, infrastructure, transportation, energy supply and employment, as well as for basic services such as education and health care . This report will critically discuss three key elements in relation to urbanisation: political economy, economic growth in urban areas and urban sociology. With this discussion, I will argue that the shift in urban areas from centralization and neoliberal globalisation had effected society in different parts of the world differently. Since this essay is only looking at three main aspects, this is not a complete discussion of the matter, but it is intended to provide an insight in the main aspects of economic development in urban areas. POLITICAL URBAN DEVELOPMENT The study of urban politics is the study what occurs on the ground, among people who share the same space for day to day living. This makes the study of urban politics particularly challenging

Asbestos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its treatment is largely palliative, or intended to ease suffering, because the prognosis is fairly grim. Only about 20% of cases live to 5 years after diagnosis, with most surviving only one year, though much depends on how far the condition had developed by the time it was diagnosed. Chemotherapy and radiation treatment are used, but not successfully, and various degrees of surgery are also used. Removal of the affected lung, pericardium and half the diaphragm is the most major of these, and even that only extends life to a maximum of around five years from diagnosis. There are new treatments being tested, but all treatment is expensive, and a good attorney is likely necessary to secure the compensation to pay for these. Ultimately hospice care will be required and again compensation money should be kept back for this. Ultimately, in spite of all the treatment given, it is palliative care that will make the last days of the patient bearable, as will the help and support of the family, and this is what compensation can fund. Lady With An Erine Analysis Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s innovative detail to composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence of a new style of portraiture. In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp demonstrates his knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and historical input. Shell and Sironi presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the identification of the painting. The authors of the article study physical and historical features of the painting to create meaning. Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history, the meaning of the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and aristocratic value. The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young lady known as Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to the side and the line of her eyes follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The positioning of her head and eyes create a mysterious atmosphere around her. She seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from the beholder. Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the opposite direction. The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the beholder but her her gaze indicates no interest. The distance between the beholder and her indicates that one can only admire her from afar. The ermine sits gracefully in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts away. The ermine tilts its head to his right, opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads reflects the dynamics and movement of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but rather lively. Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the portrait look realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia s skin against the dark background. The light brightens the entire left side of Cecilia and the ermine, meanwhile creating shadows on the right side of her body. The shadows, however, are soft like reflected light. The reflected light has intensity on the bright parts of her body

Then, when my parents told me that I had to start paying my bills I realized that working for a low wagewas not so fun. Working was hard for me because I was not only working but also going to school and playing sports. Since I was not getting very many hours due to my busy schedule I was able to pay my bills and then had a little extra cash for whatever I thought I needed. I have lived on minimum wagefor many years, but I am not a single mother living on minimum wage like many women in America. In the book Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich witnessed the struggles many of the single mothers witness every day. Ehrenreich lived like many women did for two years and she realized that living on minimum wage is nearly impossible in today s world. Throughout Ehrenreich s book she showed how impossible living on the low wages was. She discusses many hard times that she went through. Ehrenreich went into her journey will a little of a background because she has written many articles about poverty. Also, Ehrenreich came from a family of the working class because her father was a copper miner and did not make much money. Ehrenreich discusses ethos, which is establishing credibility. She gives credibility by telling us, the readers about her experiences dealing with a

It seemed like a new start for Germany after the revolution, this new republic was a democracy, chosen by the people. However, the Weimar Republic, like many new parliaments, was having teething troubles. The main trouble came from the communists. In March they organised strikes, demonstrations, riots, etc. in Berlin. Their one aim, to win power. They wanted to model Germany on Bolshevik Russia. The Weimar Republics solution to this problem was to send in the Freikorps. They were ordered to shoot anyone carrying a gun. During just a few days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Weimar Republic did not like this system and thus Munich was put under siege. Food was not allowed in and at one time giving milk to a person who wasn t dying was a criminal offence with death being the punishment. On 1 May, the democratic socialists invaded, not sparing a single communist. 600 men, women and children were killed. Of course again the main brunt of the attack had been supplied by the Freikorps. The politically unstable infancy of the Weimar Republic is marked by violent street demonstrations by paramilitary organisations bitterly opposed to the new Weimar constitution. This political unrest in Germany and the immediate aftermath of the war was as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, where the victorious Allies imposed the terms of peace on Germany. Apart from the territorial loses (Germany lost 6 million subjects, 13% of her territory, plus her colonies) imposed on her and the massive, economically crippling, sums of reparations that she was forced to pay to the Allies (notably France), Germany, by Article 231 of the treaty, also had to accept the blame for all the loss and damage inflicted on the Allies as a consequence of the war imposed on them by the aggression of Germany and her allies . This was deeply humiliating for Germany, and was the cause of much right wing resentment of the treaty and of the victorious Allies. The new Weimar government

Often perceived as a group of tyrannical oppressors, the white people have firmly established their gruesome and discriminatory image through the bloody history of its dictatorship over racial minorities. Although it is true to some extent that White people were biased and unjust to other races, it is obvious that the intransigent mindset of the native Indian people have also contributed to the intense enmity between the two races. Harold Cardinal, once president of the Indian Association of Alberta, had inaccurately accused Caucasian Canadians in The Mystery of the White Man . These examples of White criminals made his claim seemingly powerful as it was truthful that there are many criminals who are White but really, it is just as easy to come up with a list of Asians, Blacks, and Latinos who are lawbreakers, rapists, and law rigging judges. In The Loons , the half breed girl Piquette Tonnerre spent a month with the MacLeods, a Caucasian family on a holiday. During that period, the doctor s daughter Vanessa was trying to make friends with Piquette but she was rejected and ignored by the narrow minded, over defensive Piquette. Vanessa is an example of the open minded, culture exchanging Whites Cardinal described at the end of The Mystery of the White Man (Cardinal, 200). Vanessa was one of those who have offered their culture and heritage; she was striving to discover the foreign ethnicity of the Indians but the cynical, self protective Piquette had refused to befriend her. Both of the stories Akua Nuten and The Loons have reflected the fact that White people do try to reach out and discover the Indian culture. Nevertheless, they were either neglected by the unsociable Piquette or frightened at gunpoint by the racist Kukatso (Theriault, 128). Varying from the friendly and submissive attitude Cardinal described all Indians to have, Piquette was antagonistic and ignorant to learn or accept the White culture. Much like one of those

The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold Warin a comedic fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are very complex, with many scenarios that could potentially occur. After General Ripper has directed his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Later, General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in the war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was one possible solution that could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the long run. An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the conflicting nations. In a scene where a Russian ambassador is being brought into the war room, General Turgidson is disturbed by having all of the U.S. plans open in front of the enemy. He exclaims to the U.S. President, Sir, you can t let him in here. He ll see everything. He ll see the big board! Suddenly, the camera turns back and

  • 37. The Effect Of Wind Energy s Effect On Wind Power One fact that investors will likely consider, is the debate over the effect of wind inconsistency, as well as wind speed on the effectiveness and overall power generation by a wind farm. This is a significant consideration that many may not think of upon first learning of wind power as a potential resource. Research on the effect of wind speed on wind powergeneration was performed by Eric Wright who states that wind speed had little effect on power generation on South African wind turbines (Wright 2017). In fact, although climate change has led to an overall decrease in wind speeds globally, the power generation was affected, at most 3.8 percent, and at the least 0.9 percent, which overall does not account for a large enough percentage to cause concern over when considering investment (Wright 2017). Consistency is another aspect of wind power which makes it yet more alluring over fossil fuels, which are dwindling in supply, and lacking in consistency. The use of fossil fuels has led to global warming and climate change due to the carbon dioxide emitted when they are burned as fuel. Fossil fuels are created over thousands of years, and once they are used, they are gone forever. Due to this and their continued use over hundreds of years, they are becoming short in supply. They are becoming more expensive as they become rarer and it no longer makes economic sense to invest in the use or production of fossil fuel power plants. On top of that their use is hurting the Earth and

Tom Wright, who lives in 21st century, asks again. In this book, Wright puts the reader on a time machine and brings them back to Palestine, 1st century and starts the story of historical Jesus. Wright directly goes into the Gospels and talks about Jesus. Put down the ambition of Jews, take away the mystery of history, break the rule of religion, and at the moment when you realize about Jesus real desire, we finally can feel and see the real Jesus. Throughout this book, we discover questions such as Who did Jesus think he was, what was Jesus trying to accomplish and why did he try to do that. Wright not only tries to prove who Jesus is in a theological way but also explains who Jesus was in Jesus world. For both people in Jesus time period and people in today, Jesus was foreign and was different than what people thought as a God . Because of this, we missed the fact that Jesus was standing in the middle of history, culture, and religion. In the Bible, Jesus came to this land as a king and as a Messiah. But what is the relationship between Jesus and us? According to Wright, Jesus is bigger than we and the church can even imagine and people today do not take him seriously. Also, people today are underestimating Jesus. God did not come to teach people how to go to heaven, but to teach that God is trying to be a king of this land and if people pray for

Different critical theories that are introduced during this semester in Critical Inquiry have been built based on various of society events or issues in different periods. After getting in touch with each popular theory, Reader Response Theory, in the personal opinion, has become one of the commonest theories since it only considers the personal experience of the readers and how it connects to the work; the readers would receive different messages and come up with their personal thoughts and comments toward what they read, see or watch. Different from African American Theory or LGBTQ Theory, Reader Response Theory does not have a limitation on the subject position or cultural background because the comments and thoughts are based on the readers personal experience and from their own view points, and this characteristic will always benefit people not only in college but also in their entire life by expanding their horizons and helping them to find and understand their own lens in professional practices. One popular method that is currently used for protecting data is through encryption, which is the process of converting data to an unrecognizable or encrypted form. 1 This process ensures that only authorized individuals have access to the confidential encrypted message. Encryption can be applied to files, folders, storage devices, or entire volumes. Although encryption can be used to protect a variety of data types, there are many different encryption algorithms that can be used. The most common and popular encryption algorithms that are used include hashing, symmetric methods, and asymmetric methods. It is important to comprehend the underlying terminology, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the different types of encryption algorithms that is a component for electronic data security. 5 Cryptology deals with the science and mathematics that is behind the procedures and methods of secret communication. This is not to be confused with the term encryption, which focuses on the actual ciphering, or altering of the message to a secret form. Whereas decryption is the process of decoding a distorted messages into something intelligible. A key is mathematical value, such as a password or complex mathematical computations that are used to
