Writing An Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Writing An Essay" may seem like a paradoxical endeavor.
One would think that discussing the very process you are engaging in would be a
straightforward task, but it is anything but. The challenge lies in striking a balance between self-
awareness and objectivity. It's akin to trying to capture the essence of a mirror while standing in
front of it – a delicate dance between reflection and interpretation.
The difficulty begins with the meta-nature of the topic. Analyzing the intricacies of essay writing
requires a certain detachment, yet the act of writing itself is inherently personal. It demands a
conscious effort to avoid becoming entangled in the web of one's own process. Every word
typed, every sentence structured becomes a self-reflection, an acknowledgment of the very
struggles encountered in the creative process.
Furthermore, addressing the nuances of essay writing necessitates a nuanced understanding of
the diverse approaches and techniques employed by different writers. The challenge lies not only
in navigating one's own writing journey but also in presenting a comprehensive overview that
encompasses the myriad paths others may traverse.
The inherent difficulty in articulating the process is compounded by the ever-evolving nature of
writing. What may be true and relevant today could be rendered obsolete tomorrow. The essay
becomes a snapshot, frozen in time, attempting to encapsulate a dynamic and fluid craft.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Writing An Essay" proves to be a paradoxical
expedition. The delicate balance between self-reflection and objective analysis, coupled with the
challenge of capturing the essence of a constantly evolving craft, makes this endeavor a
formidable task.
For those seeking more insights, similar essays, or assistance in navigating the complexities of

How to Get Software Requirements Right
How to get Software Requirements right
Abstract
The importance of getting the software requirement right has made big difference to
so many major projects in the IT industry. Many techniques and solutions have been
developed for understanding and getting software requirements right first time in the
software development life cycle, but fewer people are taking these techniques into
account and this is the reason why most of the IT projects are failing. I define here
how to get software requirements right and why it has become some important to get
software requirements right.
Introduction
Requirements Analysis is known as the process which allows us to understand the
customer needs and expectation from proposed software. It is ... Show more content

Moreover, when requirements are specified early in the lifecycle, 80% of the
functionality is relatively unwanted by the users and 45% of these features are never
used. These problems mean costly rework, compromised product quality, delayed
delivery on current projects and start of new ones, lost credibility and lowered
revenue opportunities.
Developing and managing requirements at the start of a software project can provide
significant benefits to the whole outcome: Quicker and easier to develop and deliver
high value products. Greater insights into development capacity and capabilities.
Better understanding of the organisation and customer needs. Higher business and
user satisfaction with the overall product. Closer alignment with business goals and
expectations. Cost saving Result of the product is what the company actually
required so get a product that meets the requirements of the system. Reduces rework
and conflicts which would have come from unclear and ambiguous requirements.
How to get the requirements right?
According to Pooja.R.Guptam, in order to get the software requirements right, it can
be very beneficial to cover all the following aspects of requirement analysis: 1.

Settling In The West Essay
Settling in the west After the Civil War, a dynamic period in American history
opened the settlement of the West. The lives of Western miners, farmers, and
ranchers were often filled with great hardships, but the wave of American settlers
continued. railroads hastened this nation during this period, many Native Americans
lost their homeland and their way of life. Back in the day, the cowboys were often
people who herd and tend to the cattle. Cattle ranching or the practice of raising
livestocksuch as sheep or cattle for meator wool, was driven by the population in the
west and their desire to eat meat. When Cortez defeated the empire of the Aztec and
Mayan they were rich beyond their mind, but they lacked cattle so they imported
cattle to Tampico, Mexico where there was lots of open range for cattle. Hence they
created cattle ranching for meat. The cattle ranches not only provided meat, but also
leather and candles. Small cattle and small farms of the Anglo colonies could be
controlled by foot but the bigger cattle s required different technology. They created
the method of lassoing and it took many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historians believe that one of the reasons that helped cause pioneers to settle west
were because they wanted to find better jobs to support their families and they
were told they would have a better life in the west. With many people moving west
sometimes it caused a problem of crowding, but people still wanted to move west.
The biggest factor that contributed to brining pioneers west was an opportunity to
buy land. Land in the West was cheaper than land in the East. People moved West
in many ways, such as the railroad or by foot. When people moved into Iowa they
began to build and establish farms. People who settled in the frontier faced many
problems. Women in the frontier sometimes had to work side by side next to the men
in farms or they made clothes and sewed
Additiona Post Impressionism
It is a common theme for groups of artist to revolt against their predecessors and the
common standards that the pervious community of artist held. This is seen repeatedly
from the ancient Greeks, whose bronze and marble sculptures developed around the
perfection of the male human form, to the transition to the Romans their ideas
followed the individual they sculpted busts of the great leaders and the common
people of many different ages showing the uniqueness of all of them. This change
was also apart of the architecture, Greek temples focused decorations on the outside
of the temples on the metopes with sculptures, almost in the round, to show visitors
the wealth of their towns were as the Romans focus the the decorations on the inside
they were showing off for themselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally a more recent and immediate example of this happening is the
progression from impressionism to post impressionism, both share the use of vivid
colors, everyday objects and settings, as well as thick application of paint, but the post
impressionism movement rejects the spontaneous and naturalistic rendering of light
and color that the impressionistic

strengths to the current and long term needs of the marketplace. Formulating a
strategic posture is part of the broader strategic planning process, when managers
collaborate to develop the vision, goals and strategies for a business in the
foreseeable future. By recognizing the nature of a strategic posture, one can lead their
company more effectively (Kokemuller, n.d.).

African American Political Experience Of African
Americans...
When you have influence on someone or something you have the ability to change
things unknowingly. African Americans have influences upon the United States in
numerous ways. Socially, politically and emotionally the black experience embodies
influence on our lives today. When I reflect on the issues that African Americans
faced centuries ago, and the issues that we are facing today it seems to be a
reflection. I am a African Americanwoman staring in a cracked mirror watching the
issues of the past reflect back in the world I live in today. African American political
experience from the 20th century have an affect on us as we continue to experience
things today day we are striving to grasp change, equality and justice.
African Americans political experiences have always been a silent cry, it was
mentioned in class how when African Americans stand up for something it s like
giving a dog a bone. The minimum is done in some cases to make the problem
quiet down. African Americans have a silent cry in the sense that people can see
what they are dealing with but they won t do anything about it. During the middle of
the 20th century there were African Americans leaving the South in search of jobs
,to have a better life for their families and be in better circumstances. Desegregation
of armies, which allowed more soldiers to fight in the war and go to war. This was a
time that African Americans were wanting more and were tired of their
circumstances. African Americans were

Mulan, By Tony Bancroft And Barry Cook
Mulan is Disney animation about a story with a strong woman protagonist, who is
Fa Mulan, directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook in 1998. The film is based on
Chinese legendary story of Hua Mulan. Overall of the film shows Chinese Confucian
and traditional values with unique regulation, culture, and traditional system in their
society. According to diegetic elements of Mulan which is defined as elements that
consists of events, characters, objects, settings, and sounds in the story, the main
event is a story about how Mulan who is not suitable for traditional woman role in
Chinese ancient society overcomes the prejudice of gender rolewith exceptional
behaviors as joining Chinese military troop secretly instead of her father who was
wounded by former war. The movie Mulan is a narrative in terms of categorizing one
concept that describes and arranges the sequence of events in a cause and effect
order. In that sense, the movie starts to narrate certain disparity between Chinese
Confucian and traditional cultural characters of genderrole and protagonist s inner
human nature overall the movie, and that disparity leads the protagonist to overcome
internal and external conflicts in progression of the story. This paper will analyze
how Mulan demonstrates characteristic culture in Chinese society which shows
stereotypes of gender role in the past, and what kinds of methods protagonist use for
overcoming and deviating from a traditional gender characteristic by providing
Summary Of What s The Matter With Kansas
In the book What s the Matter With Kansas by Thomas Frank, a phenomenon has
been happening which many people do not understand. In the sixties, Kansans
were voting for democrats during the election. This was seen as typical and normal
since democrats are meant to help lower and middle class people. This did not stay
for long since shortly after Kansans started to vote for republicans which goes
against the belief of what is assumed. Republicans are known for trying to lower the
tax on the upper class and are against of many things things such as abortion. The
author tries to understand why in person the views that Kansans have match with
democrats yet when they vote it is for republicans. The reason this is happening is
due to religion.
E Banking Is The 24 Hour Availability
Banking online is one of easiest and cheapest ways to access your account. Most
financial institutions offer online services that include opening accounts, account
inquiries, transfers, bill paying, an electronic account register, and access to important
information regarding your financial institution. Another benefit of online banking is
the 24 hour availability. E banking, or electronic banking, is a banking system
available through the internet. It can be used anywhere using ATM machines, the
Internet, or a cellphone. E banking services can be accessed no matter how far away
you are from your financial institution. E banking can also be used by anyone that

You can also use either of these cards when you travel and are stationed outside of the
US, but you may be charged, so be sure to confirm any charges or other concerns with
your financial institution when you are traveling outside of the country. ATM stands
for automated teller machine and they are more convenient than going to financial
institutions, as they are available 24 hours a day. At an ATM, you make deposits
and withdrawals, check your account balance, transfer funds, and at some, even
make payments. In order to use an ATM you must either have an ATM card or a
debit card and a PIN. Most financial institutions will limit the amount of money
you can withdraw from an ATM in one day and will typically charge you a fee if
you use a foreign ATM machine. Your receipt will tell you the date, amount of
money involved, and the type of transaction. You should always remember to take
your receipt from the ATM and never write down or tell anyone your PIN, so that no
one can gain access to your information and hack your account.
Another electronic fund transfer is pre authorized payments. A pre authorized
payment takes money out of your account electronically, on the same day of every
month, and deposits it into the merchant s account. In order to make pre authorized
payments, you will need to fill out a form with your lender or merchant, which will
allow you to pick the day the money will be withdrawn, but however will be making

Fools Rush In Concept Paper
Fools Rush In is a romantic comedy dealing with interpersonal communication
between Isabel and Alex. When these two first met each other it was at a restaurant.
From the beginning, there were obvious signs of flirting. As the night went on,
Isabel ended up going to Alex s home. Waking up in his arms, she quickly scrambled
her things and left only to return three months later to tell Alex she is pregnant with
his baby. This movie is a perfect example of a relationship between two people. In a
relationship there is a time where the two discloses information about one another,

For one, Alex was a part of a different group construct than Isabel. Fortunately,
Isabel s family started warming up to Alex. It ended up being a great night. After
the family left, Isabel and Alex was left together and that is when they suddenly
realized that they liked each other. Unfortunately, Isabel had mixed emotions about
the situation. She wanted to invite Alex into her life permanently but she did not
want to get hurt with what the future held. Alex on the other hand was ready to
spend his life with Isabel. He told Isabel you are everything I never knew I always
wanted. At that point, Isabel decided to give Alex a chance with her. In the
bonding stage of their relationship, they decided to get married. They got married
in court, which upset Isabel s father. Another conflict that the relationship had was
Alex s best friend. His friend, who was previously married, shared all the negativity
about marriage. He wanted to know how come they skipped the whole dating
stage. At this point, Alex referred dating as bringing out your best side, while
holding in the real you. This line goes parallel to the self concepts explained in the
lessons. What Alex is saying is dating brings out the presenting self in a person that
way their significant other will have a front stage view of that person. The presenting
self is when a person presents themselves to others based on the circumstance or
situation. In other words, their real self is the back
Essay on David Fletcher Case
This case explores the problems managers face when assembling a team. David
Fletcher, is an overworked portfolio manager of the Emerging Growth Fund at
Jenkins, Fletcher Partners (JFP), an investment management firm in New York. As an
individual, his superior performance throughout his career has earned him an
outstanding reputation. Starting out as a clerk, he rose through the ranks of Wall
Street to eventually manage the two most aggressive mutual funds at a major
investment firm. Success at this firm only added to his reputation and lead to his
current role at JFP, a smaller firm with an informal culture. At JFP, Fletcher is
challenged with the new responsibility of managing a team, in addition to managing
his portfolio.

Though Fletcher has enjoyed long term success as a portfolio manager, he stumbles
as a team manager. One example is in his relationship with Stephanie Whitney.
Though he described is as a mentor protГ©gГ© relationship, he admits to having
little time to train her. While he provided her with general career guidance, he
explains that it was her own resourcefulness and initiative that allowed her to ascend
from an administrative assistant position to the role of analyst. This transition, as
noted by one of her colleagues, was difficult for Whitney and she struggled with
establishing her identity as an aspiring portfolio manager. Because of Fletcher s hands
off approach to managing people, Whitney s growth was stifled under his
management, which was a contributing factor to her eventual resignation.
Hiring Brian Doyle without considering how he would get along with Whitney was
another mistake Fletcher made in assembling his team. A seasoned financial
consultant to high technology firms in Silicon Valley, Doyle had frequent contact
with Fletcher over the years and offered valuable industry knowledge. However, he
did not meet Whitney prior to joining the team and it soon became evident to Fletcher
that tension existed between the two. It isn t surprising that Fletcher failed to
consider their compatibility. Being a task oriented person, he only values a person s
performance; getting
Employee Service Support Specialist At 3 Years As A...
Breonna has been with company for about 3 years as a customer service support
specialist. Her job is to file and assist with whatever else is needed by the customer
representatives. The organization Breonna works for is a large insurance company in
Arkansas, by the name of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Breonna is the only customer service support specialist in her department. She
services three different teams alone. One day she notices that the three different
teams has their own way of documentation retention. Documentation is retained
through either paper or electric form. A couple of weeks ago, before this class, she
asked her supervisor Ms. Jeanette, why does each team store documentation in
different ways? Jeanette instructed Breonna to come up with a documentation
procedure so everyone in this department would be on the same page.
We are moving in a moderate pace towards a more technological world. Breonna
would like to come up with a few procedures on electric documenting retention of
incoming and outgoing paperwork. ABCBS has all the tools needed. The
representatives don t know how to use them. Breonna plans on creating step by step
instructions that are not currently in place in this area. Breonna think this project is
very feasible and will be a much needed update in a department where paper is the
most popular form of communication and storing information.

The overall purpose of this project is to determine a document control
Anchorage Opera Analysis
On April 10th, 11th, and 12th, Anchorage Opera performed a modernized rendition
of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s last opera; The Magic Flute (1791). The cast
consisted of quite a few local performers as well as guest appearances from
acclaimed artists such as Branch Fields and Michael Scarcelle. On the 11th, I
attended the evening production accompanied by my musichating (her words, not
mine) mother. She was such a good sport until we found ourselves in the balcony
seating of the Discovery Theatre, in the front row, which was nauseating when you
looked down (she s not a fan of heights.) Albeit the discomfort, our seats provided us
with a bird s eye view of both the orchestra and stage.
Prior to attending the opera I had watched online performances of The Magic Flute
to familiarize myself with the story line and the musical style of each character
and act. Anchorage Opera s version was very different than the traditional piece.
Mozart s original opera took place in Egypt and had overwhelming undertones of
Masonic symbolism and racism. Bill Fabris, Stage Director, stated that he had
removed that imagery and changed the setting to that of the Greek Gods where
mortals and deities interact. These changes seemed to make the performance more
appealing to today s viewers, especially those new to opera, as we were able ... Show

The couple behind me spoke of how excited they were to see the production, which
made me hopeful that my mom and I were in for quite a treat. As the lights dimmed
and the orchestra began, I realized that it was far too dark to take notes. The only
light in the theatre was the illumination of the orchestra pit and a single spotlight on
the stage. All the better to focus on the show, I thought to myself. I m now wishing it
d be able to take at least some notes as Mozart s piece was chaotically charming, yet
somewhat complicated to
The Unorthodox Restoration Of A Tarnished Image
I.Introduction
The Unorthodox Restoration of a Tarnished Image is an interesting topic when
dealing with professional athletes. Lebron James is currently in his 14th season in
the National Basketball Association (NBA). He spent his first seven seasons playing
for the Cleveland Cavaliers, just 39 miles from his hometown, Akron. After the 2009
2010 NBA season, James decided not to resign his contract with the Cleveland
Cavaliers and instead sign a contract with the Miami Heat. This decision led to
James joining forces with other NBA superstars such as Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade,
and Ray Allen. Later to become known as The Decision, James image was tarnished
for the way he abandoned his hometown team and became the villain of the NBA. ...

The paths that these athletes took were both similar and different from James .
The thesis will take an in depth look on the journey of Lebron James. From the
beginning days in Akron, the fame of his early days in Cleveland, to his villain
days in Miami and back up the mountain to being a hero in Cleveland, it will all be
discussed. Lebron James is not only a once in a life time type of athlete, but once in
a life time person and businessman as well. The tactics and lessons one can learn
from his strategies are infinite.
II.Beginning of the Brand The story of Lebron is known by many, but those who
see the famous professional athlete with a superstar status usually do not know
what he came from. On December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, Lebron Raymone
James was born. His mother, Gloria James, was only 16 years old at the time and
his father, Anthony McClelland, was an ex convict with zero interest in becoming
a parent. With Gloria struggling from addiction and never keeping a steady job,
she and Lebron moved from apartment to apartment during his childhood. In the
fourth grade, Lebron moved in with his township football coach, Frankie Walker
(JockBio, 2016). Life was not easy for James growing up, but he was lucky enough
to have others surrounding him to help him rise. He played basketball at Saint
Vincent Saint Mary s High School where he would become a legend. A few of his
high school accolades include USA Today
Pop Culture in 1960 s and 1990 s Essay
Pop Culture in 1960 s and 1990 s
In comparing the sixties and the nineties, my first thought was how much popular
culture has changed since then and how different society is today. The strange thing
is, the more I tried to differentiate between them, the more similarities I found. Both
the sixties and the nineties were about youth, creativity, free thinking, and expression.
With the nineties coming to a close and the popularity of anything ?retro, I decided to
compare the fashions, people, music, and issues that defined pop culture in the
1960?s and its influence on pop culture in the 1990?s.
In the 1960?s, society was changing by the minute and fashion was ?anything goes?.

As fashion in the 60?s influenced fashion in the 90?s, the spirit of music in the 60?s
is present in the music of the 90?s. Many of the artists popular in the sixties are still
major forces in music today. There is no one genre of music that can define either
decade. After the appearance of the Beatles and the British invasion in the early
sixties, music changed and everything before it was all but swept away. There was
surf music from the Beach Boys; folk music from Bob Dylan; R B influenced music
from Motown and the Rolling Stones; and psychedelic music from Jefferson Airplane
and the Doors. In the nineties, many new types of music evolved. These include rap
music and hip hop which came from urban dissatisfaction and unrest, while
underground alternative rock became mainstream. In 1969, the Woodstock music
festival embodied the spirit of peace and love. It was repeated in 1994 and 1999, but
unfortunately, the festival in 1999 ended in violence, marring the essence of the
original Woodstock.
Racial tensions, civil rights disturbances, and deeply divided opinions over the
American presence in the Vietnam war, all served to give the sixties a radical edge.
People were passionate about what they believed in and were willing to give their
lives, if necessary, to the cause. Young people became increasingly opposed to the
Vietnam war and had a tendency to express their opinions more violently than Martin

I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich
The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because
when she was telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was
very different than Annie Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she
didn t focus on only one place in her essay she was focusing on many different
places. I personally think that the essayfrom Gretel Ehrich was the best. Why I think
is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she was
talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can placemyself in
the place she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the
farm and other things she made reference too. This essay was just really calm,
essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as readying it I felt like I was connected to it.
this is why I liked this essay more than the one from Annie Dillard when I was
readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking about
because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about
one thing and then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn t like
about her essay because it was just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places
she was referring too. Another thing I think like about it I that when it was telling
her story she would repeat herself. This is what made it hard for me to understand,
it s just crazy and goes on and on. This is why I choose the essay from Gretel.
Struggle Of Family And War
Struggle of Family and War
Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the
kids played. But that didn t last for long. I had to pay taxes for things like sugar
and documents and if that didn t put me into debt then there was the tea act and
that angered us all because we already paid tax and now tea! Even though it is way
less of tax I could be a trick. We don t even get Representation so why are we
paying these taxes! Thankfully we have the Sons of Liberty to show Britain to back
off and we formed a unity with the colonies called the Committees of
Correspondence . But even that did not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the
Committees of Correspondence and what affected me most was that they forced us
to buy the tea and if we didn t they would close the Boston harbor.
My husband says, we don t need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for
the tea and then get the thing we want. But that is not what I do first of all I need
my tea, and second I feel like I should help the other people to pay for the tea. You
thought this was it? Well it s not, there was then the Townshend act which let british
soldiers live in out house and take all of our things. This just got my family into debt,
deep debt.
Today my family still is in debt and I still can t pay it off and now when my two
little girls want something I have to say no, but they don t cry or throw a fit they
just frown and look outside. They re smart little kids and I
The Importance Of Gender Roles
In short terms, gender roles essentially are social expectations that prescribe how both
genders are supposed to act, think, speak and engage with other individuals. Gender
roles impact the way families function whether it s traditional or non traditional. As
said by Wienclaw (2015), even though the 21st century has shown a continuous
change in the way genderroles apply, some basic traditional gender roles are still
active in a lot of families. To elaborate, the basic traditional roles for males are
dominant, aggressive, strong, speedy and successful. The basic traditional roles for
females are sensitive, submissive, emotional and intuitive. Every generation has their
own expectations as to how each gender should act, but today s society is more open
minded than those in the past. Gender roles are common, mainly because of
socialization which starts right after birth. During the adolescent stage, children
conform to gender roles that rest on their biological sex. According to my family, all
of them followed the traditional gender roles but later in life, some of their roles
shifted to non traditional.

2. Determine whether each of these sets is finite, countably infinite, or uncountable.
For those that are countably infinite, exhibit a one to one correspondence between the
set of positive integers and that set.
a. The integers greater than 10.
This is countably infinite.
Starting from the first integer greater than 10, which is 11, one can infinitely count
upwards since there is no boundary on the right side of the number line for this
instance.
The equation Ж’(x) = x + 11 can be used to show a one to one correspondence. x: 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
Ж’(x): 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 ...
b. The odd negative integers.
This is countably infinite.

a. Integers not divisible by 3.
This set is countable.
The integers in the set are В±1, В±2, В±4, В±5, В±7, and so on.
We can list these numbers in the order 1, в€’1, 2, в€’2, 4, в€’4, 5, в€’5, 7, в€’7, ... ,
thereby establishing the desired correspondence. x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
Ж’(x): 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, ...
b. Integers divisible by 5 but not by 7.
This is countably infinite.
This is similar to part (a); we can simply list the elements of the set in order of
increasing absolute value, listing each positive term before its corresponding
negative: (x): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9...
Ж’(x): 5, 5, 10, 10, 15, 15, 20, 20, 25, 25, 30, 30 40, 40, ...
c. The real numbers with decimal representations consisting of all 1s.
This set is countable but a little tricky.
We can arrange the numbers in a 2 dimensional table as follows:
Thus we have shown that our set is the countable union of countable sets (each of the
countable sets is one row of this table).
Therefore by Exercise 27, the entire set is countable.
For an explicit correspondence with the positive integers, we can zigzag along the
positive sloping diagonals as in Figure 3: 1↔ .1 , 2↔ 1.1 , 3↔.1, 4↔.11, 5↔1,
and so on.

Page 4 CEO Gary Kelly and What Makes Southwest Airlines So Successful What
traits and skills does Kelly possess which make him an effective leader? There is a
very simple answer to this. Kelly is a down to earth person who never wanted to be
a CEO. He did not want the stress and headaches that went with the position. He
started out as a Controller and made his way to the top. He is an accountant,
musician, loves sports, and people. His wife Carol states that she s the more
talkative and outgoing of the two. But she laughs at her husband s suggestion that
he used to be a little shy. He s a born leader, she says. (Reed, 2004) Kelly himself
says, however, his leadership abilities are all learned. Being a leader is about
character ... being straightforward and honest, having integrity, and treating people
right, he says. Kelly can be a demanding boss. But he tries to be more nurturing
than neutering in his dealings with employees. (Reed, 2004) Denison says that
Kelly can be nurturing almost to a fault. But that, he adds, also is the secret to his
ability to get great performance from those who work for him. Gary won t give up
on people, Denison says. He will go to extraordinary lengths to help those having

The Texas Horned Lizard Essay
The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family,
Phrynosomatidae, which has ten genera and a diverse group of over 125 different
species (Hammerson 2007; Cossel Jr. 1997). Lizards in this family can be found in
Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and parts of Canada (Heying
2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly
distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales,
spikes on their bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their
inner jawbones, known as pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). The thirteen species in the
horned lizardgenus, Phrynosoma, can be identified more specifically by their
flattened bodies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and
moisture in the air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The
Texas horned lizard has hinged scales, which are interconnected to a system of
tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007).
When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary forces
pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth
for consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also
adapted a greater efficiency of absorbing water by increasing their surface area,
which allows for more water to be absorbed and transported at once (Sherbrooke et
al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping mechanism in its
mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink
(Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that,
combined with certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water
pressure and pull a constant flow of water through its tubular canals and directly into
its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The Texas horned lizardalso exhibits
behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing efficiency. To help
increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to
the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in
Violent Media Essay
Media plays a significant role in the United States. What first started as limited
information on paper has now transformed into endless amounts of news, data, and
entertainment that we can easily reach out of our pockets. Media has evolved into
two forms: print media which consists of magazines and newspapers, and there are
broadcast media which consists of television, radio, etc. Broadcasting media is now
considered the most prominent media outlet out of these two because it is used more
frequently, and it is more accessible than ever. Radio media, which started in 1920
with the invention of the radio channels and broadcasts, has now evolved into many
different forms like television, movies, video games, and the internet. A very
controversial and worrying topic for parents and guardians nowadays is the amount
of violencethat is now being used and broadcasted in media. Many people believe that
violent media is the main reason why there is youth violence in America. Violent
media doesn t precisely contribute to violent youth behavior because research shows
that even though the amount of violence in media has increased over the past years,
the number of youth homicides and violent events have decreased. There are also
broader factors that contribute to youth violence rather than violent media, like a
history of violent victimization, low parent involvement, and even living in socially
disorganized neighborhoods. And although violent media seems like a bad thing to be
Value Hedonists View That Pleasure Is The Only Intrinsic...
Value hedonists view that pleasure is the only intrinsic good and pain is the only
intrinsic evil seems to be an assumption rather than a deduced conclusion. This can
be seen by asking why it is that pleasure is an intrinsic good. There seem to be only
two possible answers to this question. The first possible reply is that the intrinsic
good of pleasureis simply assumed, in which case the entire value hedonist s view is
an assumption involving no deduction whatsoever. Once someone agrees with the
assumption or not, that is the end of the line; there can be no argumentation over this
view. The second possible reply is for the value hedonist to say that he/she knows the
goodness of pleasure from experience: that she has experienced pleasure
Sigma Gamma Rho Discourse Community
Discourse communities are groups of people who share common interests and goals,
and these communities These communities must meet certain criteria that will
qualify them being a discourse community. For example, members must have the
same goals, communicate with one another, and also have different levels of
expertise. There are also a couple of qualities such as, using specialized language,
having an information platform, and members must communicate with each other
regularly. The discourse community that has been chosen to be study is Sigma

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On College
Students
As kids get into high school, most parents hope that their kids will join some kind of
club or team. A question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in
extracurricular activities or should they even be involved at all? Extracurricular
activities can be both advantageous and unpromising depending on what the student
plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans participating
in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions.
One great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great
on college applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing
video games; they will certainly notice a lack of notable activities on your college
application (Extracurricular Activity). When admissions offices for colleges are
looking at students applications for their school, the first thing they look at to
determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades.
The next criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in
outside of the classroom. If two people have the same GPA and the same academic
test scores, the admissions office will look at the extracurricular activities that both of
the students have participated in. The student that has done more outside of the
classroom will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing
against. ...maintaining good grades will look better on a college
Sea Otters Keystone Species
Introduction Sea otters, (Enhydra lutris), are considered a keystone species, and for
this reason, can be useful indicators of nearshore ecosystem health (Kreuder et al.
2003). With the implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, southern sea
otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) populations within their California range rebounded
from post fur trade levels of approximately 50 60 in 1938, to more than 3000 today.
However, growth rates have been slower than expected for this population (Riedman
and Estes 1990). Definitive explanation for this is unclear, but contributing factors
may be that sea otters face a range of physiological and environmental challenges to
reproduce. Sea otters lack a layer of blubber, but compensate by having the thickest...

Sexually mature females can mate year around and are often either pregnant or caring
for young throughout their lifetime, and this creates ongoing energy demands that
can be energetically exhausting (Chinn et al. 2016). Sea otter mating behavior is
aggressive and can further inflict physiological and traumatic stress to females,
thereby reducing their foraging efficiency. Other factors such as infections, disease,
bio toxin ingestion and anthropogenic disturbance can also decrease fitness among
adult females and increase their vulnerability during reproduction (Chinn et al.
2016). As nearshore inhabitants, southern sea otters often live in close proximity to
areas of high human population density in California. These nearshore waterways
can be busy with recreational and commercial boating activity that can disturb sea
otter populations. Increased disturbance may cause increased stress to the species.
Sea otters are of great interest to people who wish to view them, and this is
sometimes done up close by boat or paddle craft. If this activity changes sea otter
behavior in any way, it not only violates the Marine Mammal Protection Act, it can
also have a negative impact on the species, especially adult females with pups.
Additionally, a familiar list of human impacts, such as climate change, overharvest of
marine resources, municipal runoff, and habitat degradation likely reduce fitness of
marine mammals directly and indirectly. Sea otters can be indicators of the overall
health of the nearshore ecosystem (Kreuder et al. 2003). The slow growth rate of the
southern sea otter population may be an expression of nearshore ecosystem
degradation in California resulting from the fur trade and explosion of human
population in
The Code And Software Components Of An Information
System
To protect any prestigious company and make it safe for both the employees and
users certain safeguards needs to be put in place in order to ensure integrity. Technical
safeguards, data safeguards, human safeguards, account management are some of the
essential ways a company can help protect their image. Technical safeguards include
identification and authenticationvia user names and passwords, smart cards, biometric
authentication, encryption and single sign on for multiple systems. Another is data
safeguards which consists data administration, database administration, key escrow,
backup copies, and physical security for all devices that store database data. Human
safeguards are safeguards for employees, including security sensitivity for position
definitions. Account administration and system procedures are also an important part
of data security. These measures are put in place to ensure that the reputation of the
company is upheld throughout its daily operations.
The Use of the First Line of Technical Safeguards to Protect the Business
The hardware and software components of an information system is very important to
the overall functionality of the business organization. To ensure that only the right
persons are accessing sensitive information technical safeguards provide a sense of
safety. Identification and authentication is very critical for any information system.
Identification is the unique username that employees are usually given or is made by

Dean James Mcgregor s Letters To Pope Urban II
Dean James McGregor gave a lecture on the crusades. He started his talk by stating
that the crusading activities took place mainly in the Levant, Turkey and Greece,
Germany and France. Alexius the first Comnenus wrote a letter to Pope Urban II.
He was asking Pope Urban to send him soldiers to capture his lost lands. The reason
why he wrote to PopeUrban is that he only recognized his authority and not
recognizing the king of France s authority not the king of Germany and the other
kings. Urban takes the call very seriously which led him to call the Council of
Clermont in 1095. It is important to mention that Urban has a strong connection to
warriors, he knew how to talk to them.
The people of the crusades were motivated by money, protection
Use Of Satire In Dr Strangelove
The Stanley Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying
and Love the Bomb, uses the rhetorical device of satire to raise the issue of the
Soviet American arms race throughout the film. A satire uses humor, irony, and
sarcasm to expose and discredit vice or folly (Merriam Webster, 2018). Mutually
assured destruction was believed to be the end result of a nuclear war between the
two world powers and Kubrick s film pokes fun at this absurd conclusion. The
Soviet American arms race was an intense time period in history that caused
American citizens to fear for their lives, but the film decides to satirize the issue to

Strangelove, an ex Nazi scientist counseling the President and the generals in the war
room, having a mechanical arm with a mind of its own (Manos, 1). The arm abruptly
snapped into a Nazi salute and Dr. Strangelove seemed to fight against his own arm
that began to strangle him. The madness of the nuclear arms race and the real danger
of starting a world war is intensely ridiculed with such foolishness.
In another scene of the film, the President of the United States made a phone call to
the Russian Premier to warn him about the nuclear bombers that cannot be recalled.
During this phone call, the two men quarreled over who was sorrier to the other
about the pressing matter. As long as the two men both know that they are both very
sorry and it is nothing personal, everything is just fine even though millions of lives
are about to be taken. This is a prime example of the dark humor utilized throughout
the movie.
The issue of the nuclear arms race between the Soviets and the Americans proved to
be a dangerous time for the people of that era. Americans feared for their lives
because the thought of human extinction seemed possible with the threat of a nuclear
war. Dr. Strangelove mocks the people s fears by using dark humor throughout the
film. The movie depicts impending doom as a result of the Cold Warbut because it is
a satire, it makes the audience want to laugh at the
Maya Angelou Caged Bird Comparison Essay
The Effects of Confinement on the Human Mind: Trapped Characters in Maya
Angelou s Caged Bird , and Tennessee Williams s The Glass Menagerie
Confinement, and how it affects people, has always been a subject of debate for
people around the world. The impacts on mental and psychological health and
reactions to it have been arguments used against things such as solitary confinement
in prison, in which there are multiple cases of such impacts occurring. Both poet
Maya Angelou and playwright Tennessee Williams have approached the subject of
confinement before, although in much broader terms than just physical confinement,
and they have taken quite different approaches on the subject. Angelou s poem Caged

Tom is a character who is trying to escape from his current reality of being stuck in
his current position, physically and socially, much like how the caged bird of
Angelou s poem is restrained. Because his father left, Tom is the main breadwinner
of the family, with his sister doing nothing, and his mother only doing some small
work selling magazine subscriptions over the phone. Throughout the play, we see
him struggle with this reality and sing his song through his arguments with his
mother, and his time spent late at night at the movies, which, as George W.
Crandell comments, provides both the impetus and a convenient excuse for
escape from unpleasant company and inhospitable surroundings (1). The cinema
is Tom s only way of escape from his life without truly hurting those around him,
even though it is only a temporary escape. His anger is quite evident throughout
the play, mainly though his arguments with his mother. During one of those
arguments in Scene 3 he truly expresses his feelings and his honest distaste of his
home and work. He says that he d rather have someone beat his brains out with a
crowbar than go to work every morning. He describes just how much he thinks that
he gives up to provide for his family, saying I go! For sixty five dollars a month I
give up all that I dream of doing and being ever! (Scene 3). He goes on to say that if
he thought of himself all the time, as he believes his mother believes he does, he
would have already left, just as his father did, illustrating just how far his hatred
for his home really goes. His exclamation, How lucky dead people are! (Scene 3)
really tells us just how much he hates having to go to his work. All of this points to
just how truly bitter and resentful Tom really is, and just how much he really wants
to escape his current cage. This is a near mirrored mindset of the caged
The Best Play Of The Super Bowl
1. Without a doubt the best play of the game would be Denver Broncos linebacker
Von Miller s sack of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton that forced a
fumble. The fumble was recovered for a touchdown, and was really the first (and
one of the few) impact play of the game. Miller went on to win MVP and his team
the Super Bowl, and this clutch play early on in the game definitely had some
influence on both those things. It also set the defensive tone of the game. However,
I think the best play of the Super Bowl in general would have to be the infant s
quick moves out of the womb in the Doritos commercial. That baby had, arguably,
more speed than Miller when he got around the Panthers s offensive line to make the
sack, and the newborn deserves
The Legal Status Of The Islamic State
This paper will examine the legal status of the so called Islamic State with the aim
of determining whether it is recognised as having international legal personality.
Focus will also be placed on the principles of international legal personality more
broadly by providing a critique on the effectiveness of these concepts in international
law. Firstly a brief overview of the Islamic Statewill be given outlining their stated
goals and information important to supporting a claim of international legal
personality. Secondly we will look at the classes of established legal persons before
going into each in more detail. A major consideration of this research is whether the
Islamic State could be recognised as a State in international law. In answering this
question the traditional criteria for statehood set out in Article I of the Montevideo
Convention on Rights and Duties of States 1933 (hereinafter Montevideo
Convention) will be examined along with the relevant authorities and recent
developments in regards to the criteria for statehood. Secondly the consequences of
where the Islamic State fits within the international legal framework will be
discussed. Finally the essay will look at the effectiveness of the concept of legal
personality in international law particularly in the context of the conclusion reached
in relation to the Islamic State. The writings of a number of authoritative international
law academics along with a range of academic journal articles have been used to
Attention Hyperactive Impulsive Defecit Disorder

known as ADHD, is under the category of IDEA, which is the Other Health
Impairments. It is considered as one of the most common childhood mental disorder,
affecting more than one in every twenty children (Shaw, 2008). Moreover, this
condition can continue through adolescence and adulthood. IDEA defines it as a
neurobiological based developmental disorder in children and adults with a
persistent pattern of problems in the areas of inattention, hyperactivity and

individuals at a comparable level of development. DSM IV defined ADHD as same as

Sugars and food additives are believe to worsen the symptoms of ADHD but the

on the studies conducted, there is no difference in behaviour if the person take
sugar and food additives or not. (NIMH, 2012) ADHD is also associated with other
disorders like learning disabilities, bipolar, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct
disorder and tourette syndrome. Though some persons with ADHD could have co
existed conditions, it is not applicable to all. In addition, there is a big difference
between bipolar and ADHD. ADHD is the difficulty in regulating emotions while
bipolar is a mood disorder wherein over regulation of emotions. On the other hand,
oppositional defiant disorder is also different with ADHD in terms that ODD do

When it comes to waste, Australia is one of the worst in the world. In Australia the
average person generates 4.1kg per day, that amount of waste equates to 1.5
tonnes of waste per year, this is the average weight of a car. 40% of the waste in the
average household bin is food this is equivalent to 1 in 5 bags of groceries going
into the bin. We need to stop that food from going to landfill. And you re probably
thinking how do we stop this waste? We need to be less fussy. If your apple has got
a bruise just eat around it or cut out the area you don t want. Another answer to that is
easy we start to compost. Composting allows use of otherwise useless scraps and
provides a free fertiliser that is great for the garden.
Plastics are another common item that ends up in bins. There are so many plastic
bags in the world that they decided to go and colonise
Theories Of Yale Skull And Bones Society
What exactly is Yale s skull and bones society? This question has been asked by
many people and no clear conclusion has been reached. People have known about
this society for many years, but no one really seems to know what the society
actually is and their goals. All we know for sure is that the society exists and it is
very secretive. There are only a few select people in this society that are sworn to
secrecy. Along with the secrecy, there are many conspiracy theories that are
associated to the society. Some of these include the JFK assassination, secret spies,
failures of the democratic party, and more. People have also related many past events
to this skull and bonessociety. While doing thorough research on this secret society, I
found that many of the societies members have gone on to positions of power or
have some control in America s society. This information has lead me to believe
that the purpose of this society is to gain positions of power and then control the
nation and it s events in any way that they want. This leads me to believe that this
society has been doing illegal things without any backlash. In this essay, I will be
going through my opinion on this society based on my research of trustworthy
sources. Yale s Skull and Bones Society is a secret organization whose purpose is to
gain positions of power to have control over the nation so they can do as they please.

Plato s Simile Of The Cave
Imagine living in a world of false impressions, of course how would know that they
were living in a world of lies. They would probably believe that every action
performed by their senses were true. Plato s Simile of the Cave sheds light on this
this idea which is also adapted by the 1999 movie by Andy Wachowski Lana
Wachowski, The Matrix. Both works have allegorical meanings which explains how
people are trapped by some sort of limitations they have which could also serve as
a deterrent to their further understanding. This movie The Matrix shares a common
philosophical basis with Plato s Simile of the Cave. First, Plato argues that the
mind is susceptible to false ideas because of the limitations of our senses. This is
shown in the conversation between Socrates, a speaker in his allegory, and
Glaucon, the second speaker. Socrates explains to Glaucon that the prisoners in
Plato s metaphorical cave are bound to assume that the shadows thrown on the
wall, by the fire, are real and that the objects held by the passers by, walking along
the road, belong to the shadows. And so in every way they would believe that the
shadows of the objects we mentioned were the whole truth. (Plato, 26). Plato
believes that the world perceived through our senses is not a real world, but a poor
copy of it. This prisoners do not know that they are prisoners, which makes them to
be completely unaware that the reality they know is false. In similar fashion, his
claim shares a common
Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window Essay
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a voyeuristic point of view (POV) style of
filming. The point of view captures the intimate details of the neighbors lives
through the view of Jimmy Stewarts character L. B. Jefferies (Jeff). Hitchcock set
the tone for movies of the POV style. There are many films today that have used the
same POV techniques, such as 2007 s Disturbia, directed by D.J. Caruso, who was
inspired by Rear Window. Although the setting are different, Disturbia gives the
audience the view from the aspect of a teenager, Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf), who
under house arrest starts spying on his neighbors. When one night he watches his
neighbor dispose of what he thinks is body (Cooper, 2012). These two movies
while similar, differ as well. Rear Window, I felt for its time was somewhat risquГ©
for its time period. The suggestion of intimacy with many of the neighbor s and a

The Odyssesy by Homer
Epic heroes are usually great leaders and accomplish great deeds and undertake
journeys or quests that usually take place in a wide setting such as the world. The
epic hero is a larger than life person who embodies the highest ideals of his culture
and time period. Also, this type of heroes experience human emotions, yet is able to
master and control these human traits to a greater degree than a typical human. All of
these standard traits were set by Odysseus, the epic hero from the Odyssey, written by
Homer. Odysseus embodies the characteristics of the Greeks at the time such as
Curiosity, sharp intellect, cunningness all throughout the Odyssey to set the standard
for epic heroes for future generations to come.
Out of all of Odysseus traits, his cunningness and ability to be an articulate speaker
is one of the more prominent traits that shines throughout his journey. Through the
odysseys many bumps and battles Odysseus demonstrates his cunningness and
quick thinking at every page. When Odysseus says, My name is Nohbody: mother,
father, friends, everyone calls me Nohbody (Homer 9.360 361). Odysseus shows his
deceptiveness by naming himself Nohbody in future plans of escaping from
Polyphemus. In this situation, Odysseus cunningness helps him to escape and get
back on track to his journey back to Ithaca. The following demonstrates another
example Odysseus persuasiveness: My quiet Penelope how well I know would seem
a shade before your majesty, death and old age

  • 1. Writing An Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Writing An Essay" may seem like a paradoxical endeavor. One would think that discussing the very process you are engaging in would be a straightforward task, but it is anything but. The challenge lies in striking a balance between self- awareness and objectivity. It's akin to trying to capture the essence of a mirror while standing in front of it – a delicate dance between reflection and interpretation. The difficulty begins with the meta-nature of the topic. Analyzing the intricacies of essay writing requires a certain detachment, yet the act of writing itself is inherently personal. It demands a conscious effort to avoid becoming entangled in the web of one's own process. Every word typed, every sentence structured becomes a self-reflection, an acknowledgment of the very struggles encountered in the creative process. Furthermore, addressing the nuances of essay writing necessitates a nuanced understanding of the diverse approaches and techniques employed by different writers. The challenge lies not only in navigating one's own writing journey but also in presenting a comprehensive overview that encompasses the myriad paths others may traverse. The inherent difficulty in articulating the process is compounded by the ever-evolving nature of writing. What may be true and relevant today could be rendered obsolete tomorrow. The essay becomes a snapshot, frozen in time, attempting to encapsulate a dynamic and fluid craft. Though he described is as a mentor protГ©gГ© relationship, he admits to having little time to train her. While he provided her with general career guidance, he explains that it was her own resourcefulness and initiative that allowed her to ascend from an administrative assistant position to the role of analyst. This transition, as noted by one of her colleagues, was difficult for Whitney and she struggled with establishing her identity as an aspiring portfolio manager. Because of Fletcher s hands off approach to managing people, Whitney s growth was stifled under his management, which was a contributing factor to her eventual resignation. Hiring Brian Doyle without considering how he would get along with Whitney was another mistake Fletcher made in assembling his team. A seasoned financial consultant to high technology firms in Silicon Valley, Doyle had frequent contact with Fletcher over the years and offered valuable industry knowledge. However, he did not meet Whitney prior to joining the team and it soon became evident to Fletcher that tension existed between the two. It isn t surprising that Fletcher failed to consider their compatibility. Being a task oriented person, he only values a person s performance; getting

The cast consisted of quite a few local performers as well as guest appearances from acclaimed artists such as Branch Fields and Michael Scarcelle. On the 11th, I attended the evening production accompanied by my musichating (her words, not mine) mother. She was such a good sport until we found ourselves in the balcony seating of the Discovery Theatre, in the front row, which was nauseating when you looked down (she s not a fan of heights.) Albeit the discomfort, our seats provided us with a bird s eye view of both the orchestra and stage. Prior to attending the opera I had watched online performances of The Magic Flute to familiarize myself with the story line and the musical style of each character and act. Anchorage Opera s version was very different than the traditional piece. Mozart s original opera took place in Egypt and had overwhelming undertones of Masonic symbolism and racism. Pop Culture in 1960 s and 1990 s Essay Pop Culture in 1960 s and 1990 s In comparing the sixties and the nineties, my first thought was how much popular culture has changed since then and how different society is today. The strange thing is, the more I tried to differentiate between them, the more similarities I found. Both the sixties and the nineties were about youth, creativity, free thinking, and expression. With the nineties coming to a close and the popularity of anything ?retro, I decided to compare the fashions, people, music, and issues that defined pop culture in the 1960?s and its influence on pop culture in the 1990?s. Many of the artists popular in the sixties are still major forces in music today. There is no one genre of music that can define either decade. After the appearance of the Beatles and the British invasion in the early sixties, music changed and everything before it was all but swept away. There was surf music from the Beach Boys; folk music from Bob Dylan; R B influenced music from Motown and the Rolling Stones; and psychedelic music from Jefferson Airplane and the Doors. In the nineties, many new types of music evolved. These include rap music and hip hop which came from urban dissatisfaction and unrest, while underground alternative rock became mainstream. In 1969, the Woodstock music festival embodied the spirit of peace and love. It was repeated in 1994 and 1999, but unfortunately, the festival in 1999 ended in violence, marring the essence of the original Woodstock. Racial tensions, civil rights disturbances, and deeply divided opinions over the American presence in the Vietnam war, all served to give the sixties a radical edge. People were passionate about what they believed in and were willing to give their lives, if necessary, to the cause. Young people became increasingly opposed to the Vietnam war and had a tendency to express their opinions more violently than Martin Luther King,

I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn t focus on only one place in her essay she was focusing on many different places. I personally think that the essayfrom Gretel Ehrich was the best. Why I think is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she was talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can placemyself in the place she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the farm and other things she made reference too. This essay was just really calm, essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as readying it I felt like I was connected to it. this is why I liked this essay more than the one from Annie Dillard when I was readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking about because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about one thing and then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn t like about her essay because it was just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places she was referring too. Another thing I think like about it I that when it was telling her story she would repeat herself. This is what made it hard for me to understand, it s just crazy and goes on and on. This is why I choose the essay from Gretel.

  • 19. The Importance Of Gender Roles In short terms, gender roles essentially are social expectations that prescribe how both genders are supposed to act, think, speak and engage with other individuals. Gender roles impact the way families function whether it s traditional or non traditional. As said by Wienclaw (2015), even though the 21st century has shown a continuous change in the way genderroles apply, some basic traditional gender roles are still active in a lot of families. To elaborate, the basic traditional roles for males are dominant, aggressive, strong, speedy and successful. The basic traditional roles for females are sensitive, submissive, emotional and intuitive. Every generation has their own expectations as to how each gender should act, but today s society is more open minded than those in the past. Gender roles are common, mainly because of socialization which starts right after birth. During the adolescent stage, children conform to gender roles that rest on their biological sex. According to my family, all of them followed the traditional gender roles but later in life, some of their roles shifted to non traditional. Jeff (the father), was born in the 1950s. Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). The Texas horned lizard has hinged scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The Texas horned lizardalso exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing efficiency. To help increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in

What first started as limited information on paper has now transformed into endless amounts of news, data, and entertainment that we can easily reach out of our pockets. Media has evolved into two forms: print media which consists of magazines and newspapers, and there are broadcast media which consists of television, radio, etc. Broadcasting media is now considered the most prominent media outlet out of these two because it is used more frequently, and it is more accessible than ever. Radio media, which started in 1920 with the invention of the radio channels and broadcasts, has now evolved into many different forms like television, movies, video games, and the internet. A very controversial and worrying topic for parents and guardians nowadays is the amount of violencethat is now being used and broadcasted in media. Many people believe that violent media is the main reason why there is youth violence in America. Violent media doesn t precisely contribute to violent youth behavior because research shows that even though the amount of violence in media has increased over the past years, the number of youth homicides and violent events have decreased. There are also broader factors that contribute to youth violence rather than violent media, like a history of violent victimization, low parent involvement, and even living in socially disorganized neighborhoods. Sea Otters Keystone Species Introduction Sea otters, (Enhydra lutris), are considered a keystone species, and for this reason, can be useful indicators of nearshore ecosystem health (Kreuder et al. 2003). With the implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) populations within their California range rebounded from post fur trade levels of approximately 50 60 in 1938, to more than 3000 today. However, growth rates have been slower than expected for this population (Riedman and Estes 1990). Definitive explanation for this is unclear, but contributing factors may be that sea otters face a range of physiological and environmental challenges to reproduce. Sea otters lack a layer of blubber, but compensate by having the thickest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexually mature females can mate year around and are often either pregnant or caring for young throughout their lifetime, and this creates ongoing energy demands that can be energetically exhausting (Chinn et al. 2016). Sea otter mating behavior is aggressive and can further inflict physiological and traumatic stress to females, thereby reducing their foraging efficiency. Other factors such as infections, disease, bio toxin ingestion and anthropogenic disturbance can also decrease fitness among adult females and increase their vulnerability during reproduction (Chinn et al. 2016). As nearshore inhabitants, southern sea otters often live in close proximity to areas of high human population density in California. These nearshore waterways can be busy with recreational and commercial boating activity that can disturb sea otter populations. Increased disturbance may cause increased stress to the species. Sea otters are of great interest to people who wish to view them, and this is sometimes done up close by boat or paddle craft. If this activity changes sea otter behavior in any way, it not only violates the Marine Mammal Protection Act, it can also have a negative impact on the species, especially adult females with pups. Additionally, a familiar list of human impacts, such as climate change, overharvest of marine resources, municipal runoff, and habitat degradation likely reduce fitness of marine mammals directly and indirectly. Sea otters can be indicators of the overall health of the nearshore ecosystem (Kreuder et al. 2003). The slow growth rate of the southern sea otter population may be an expression of nearshore ecosystem degradation in California resulting from the fur trade and explosion of human population in

The arm abruptly snapped into a Nazi salute and Dr. Strangelove seemed to fight against his own arm that began to strangle him. The madness of the nuclear arms race and the real danger of starting a world war is intensely ridiculed with such foolishness. In another scene of the film, the President of the United States made a phone call to the Russian Premier to warn him about the nuclear bombers that cannot be recalled. During this phone call, the two men quarreled over who was sorrier to the other about the pressing matter. As long as the two men both know that they are both very sorry and it is nothing personal, everything is just fine even though millions of lives are about to be taken. This is a prime example of the dark humor utilized throughout the movie. The issue of the nuclear arms race between the Soviets and the Americans proved to be a dangerous time for the people of that era. Americans feared for their lives because the thought of human extinction seemed possible with the threat of a nuclear war. Dr. Strangelove mocks the people s fears by using dark humor throughout the film. The movie depicts impending doom as a result of the Cold Warbut because it is a satire, it makes the audience want to laugh at the

Maya Angelou Caged Bird Comparison Essay The Effects of Confinement on the Human Mind: Trapped Characters in Maya Angelou s Caged Bird , and Tennessee Williams s The Glass Menagerie Confinement, and how it affects people, has always been a subject of debate for people around the world. The impacts on mental and psychological health and reactions to it have been arguments used against things such as solitary confinement in prison, in which there are multiple cases of such impacts occurring. Both poet Maya Angelou and playwright Tennessee Williams have approached the subject of confinement before, although in much broader terms than just physical confinement, and they have taken quite different approaches on the subject. Tom is a character who is trying to escape from his current reality of being stuck in his current position, physically and socially, much like how the caged bird of Angelou s poem is restrained. Because his father left, Tom is the main breadwinner of the family, with his sister doing nothing, and his mother only doing some small work selling magazine subscriptions over the phone. Throughout the play, we see him struggle with this reality and sing his song through his arguments with his mother, and his time spent late at night at the movies, which, as George W. Crandell comments, provides both the impetus and a convenient excuse for escape from unpleasant company and inhospitable surroundings (1). The cinema is Tom s only way of escape from his life without truly hurting those around him, even though it is only a temporary escape. His anger is quite evident throughout the play, mainly though his arguments with his mother. During one of those arguments in Scene 3 he truly expresses his feelings and his honest distaste of his home and work. He says that he d rather have someone beat his brains out with a crowbar than go to work every morning. He describes just how much he thinks that he gives up to provide for his family, saying I go! For sixty five dollars a month I give up all that I dream of doing and being ever! (Scene 3). He goes on to say that if he thought of himself all the time, as he believes his mother believes he does, he would have already left, just as his father did, illustrating just how far his hatred for his home really goes. His exclamation, How lucky dead people are! (Scene 3) really tells us just how much he hates having to go to his work. All of this points to just how truly bitter and resentful Tom really is, and just how much he really wants to escape his current cage. This is a near mirrored mindset of the caged
  • 33. The Best Play Of The Super Bowl 1. Without a doubt the best play of the game would be Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller s sack of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton that forced a fumble. The fumble was recovered for a touchdown, and was really the first (and one of the few) impact play of the game. Miller went on to win MVP and his team the Super Bowl, and this clutch play early on in the game definitely had some influence on both those things. It also set the defensive tone of the game. However, I think the best play of the Super Bowl in general would have to be the infant s quick moves out of the womb in the Doritos commercial. That baby had, arguably, more speed than Miller when he got around the Panthers s offensive line to make the sack, and the newborn deserves

We destroy as much of the environment as we feel like and nobody cares. Nobody wants it to be their problem. Politicians ignore the problem and the public believe that it s the politicians problem when really it is down to both the public and politicians to change. As grade twelves we believe that the problem isn t ours, that it is for someone else to fix but there is so much that we can change about our everyday lifestyle that can help improve and care for the environment around us. When it comes to waste, Australia is one of the worst in the world. In Australia the average person generates 4.1kg per day, that amount of waste equates to 1.5 tonnes of waste per year, this is the average weight of a car. 40% of the waste in the average household bin is food this is equivalent to 1 in 5 bags of groceries going into the bin. We need to stop that food from going to landfill. And you re probably thinking how do we stop this waste? We need to be less fussy. If your apple has got a bruise just eat around it or cut out the area you don t want. Another answer to that is easy we start to compost. People have known about this society for many years, but no one really seems to know what the society actually is and their goals. All we know for sure is that the society exists and it is very secretive. There are only a few select people in this society that are sworn to secrecy. Along with the secrecy, there are many conspiracy theories that are associated to the society. Some of these include the JFK assassination, secret spies, failures of the democratic party, and more. People have also related many past events to this skull and bonessociety. While doing thorough research on this secret society, I found that many of the societies members have gone on to positions of power or have some control in America s society. This information has lead me to believe that the purpose of this society is to gain positions of power and then control the nation and it s events in any way that they want. This leads me to believe that this society has been doing illegal things without any backlash. They would probably believe that every action performed by their senses were true. Plato s Simile of the Cave sheds light on this this idea which is also adapted by the 1999 movie by Andy Wachowski Lana Wachowski, The Matrix. Both works have allegorical meanings which explains how people are trapped by some sort of limitations they have which could also serve as a deterrent to their further understanding. This movie The Matrix shares a common philosophical basis with Plato s Simile of the Cave. First, Plato argues that the mind is susceptible to false ideas because of the limitations of our senses. This is shown in the conversation between Socrates, a speaker in his allegory, and Glaucon, the second speaker. Socrates explains to Glaucon that the prisoners in Plato s metaphorical cave are bound to assume that the shadows thrown on the wall, by the fire, are real and that the objects held by the passers by, walking along the road, belong to the shadows. And so in every way they would believe that the shadows of the objects we mentioned were the whole truth. (Plato, 26). Plato believes that the world perceived through our senses is not a real world, but a poor copy of it. This prisoners do not know that they are prisoners, which makes them to be completely unaware that the reality they know is false. In similar fashion, his claim shares a common

The point of view captures the intimate details of the neighbors lives through the view of Jimmy Stewarts character L. B. Jefferies (Jeff). Hitchcock set the tone for movies of the POV style. There are many films today that have used the same POV techniques, such as 2007 s Disturbia, directed by D.J. Caruso, who was inspired by Rear Window. Although the setting are different, Disturbia gives the audience the view from the aspect of a teenager, Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf), who under house arrest starts spying on his neighbors. The epic hero is a larger than life person who embodies the highest ideals of his culture and time period. Also, this type of heroes experience human emotions, yet is able to master and control these human traits to a greater degree than a typical human. All of these standard traits were set by Odysseus, the epic hero from the Odyssey, written by Homer. Odysseus embodies the characteristics of the Greeks at the time such as Curiosity, sharp intellect, cunningness all throughout the Odyssey to set the standard for epic heroes for future generations to come. Out of all of Odysseus traits, his cunningness and ability to be an articulate speaker is one of the more prominent traits that shines throughout his journey. Through the odysseys many bumps and battles Odysseus demonstrates his cunningness and quick thinking at every page. When Odysseus says, My name is Nohbody: mother, father, friends, everyone calls me Nohbody (Homer 9.360 361). Odysseus shows his deceptiveness by naming himself Nohbody in future plans of escaping from Polyphemus. In this situation, Odysseus cunningness helps him to escape and get back on track to his journey back to Ithaca. The following demonstrates another example Odysseus persuasiveness: My quiet Penelope how well I know would seem a shade before your majesty, death and old age
