I chose to interview Dr. Christopher Bever, a Neurology Professor at the University
of Maryland Medical School and Chief of the Neurology Service at the VA
Medical Center in Baltimore. He is also the director of the VA Multiple Sclerosis
(MS) Center of Excellence. He been apart of multiple research studies on the

Nonetheless, traumatic events like the many Hemingway experienced during the
war leave an impact on the witness. In most cases, soldiers leave warfronts with a
form of post traumatic stress disorder, or ptsd ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder 1).
Often those diagnosed with ptsd are also diagnosed with depression ( PTSD:
National Center for PTSD 1). Clearly, Hemingway had undiagnosed depression and
his suicide confirms it ( Ernest Hemingway 3). The combination of ptsd and
depression could have led to Hemingway forming his own alter ego. The alter ego
would allow him to, in his mind at least, become another person with another
temperament, similar to what a method actor does (Rodgers 3). This could explain
the great adventures Hemingway had in between his writing, anything adventurous
from bullfighting to deep sea fishing, he did it ( Ernest Hemingway 2). The coming
and going of these adventures may have been the result of his mental state, the
good days were the grand adventures, and the bad days were the ones at home,

In St. Augustine s Confessions and Dante s Inferno, the central characters in their
respective narratives are presented a message from which induces distinct reactions.
More importantly, their reactions are reflections of their perspective concerning the
Christian outlook towards life and passion.
In Book VIII.xi (29) the reader finds St. Augustine in a state of despair and anguish
because of his ongoing internal struggle between his mind and body. Afterwards, he
undergoes a surreal experience that ultimately leads to the climax of Confessions, his
conversion to Christianity.
The catalyst for his conversion rests upon none other than a boy or a girl who might
be chanting, per St. Augustine, some sort of children s game (152). The ... Show more
St. Augustine may be referencing the contrast of his experience to that of Noah s by
mentioning flood . While Noah immediately obeyed the given detailed instructions,
St. Augustine is given four words, yet he delays action as he reflects on the example
of Antony, the father of all monks, for guidance. Even though he delays taking action,
the mention of the adverb solely suggest that St. Augustine does take the choice to
perceive, with no reserves, the message as divine. He could have merely attributed
the command as the nursery rhyme, but he did not. Instead, he shows faith and belief
that Noah would not have to demonstrate as the latter directly hears the voice of God.
After he reads Romans 13:13 14, St. Augustine neither wished nor needed to read
further...All the shadows of doubt were dispelled. The conclusion is a four lined
passage which serves as the conclusion of this intense and surreal experience. Once
St. Augustine finally converts, the complexities of his troubles seemingly dissipate.
The reader is left with the understanding that all of St. Augustine s troubles ( the
shadows of doubt ) could have easily been resolved had he been more simple minded

Historically, paintings only depicted the wealthy or a religious figure. One of the
first artists to deviate from this was Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Common day people
serve as the subjects for many of Bruegel s paintings, including The Peasant Dance in
1567. Lower class people have been the subject of paintings many times since
Bruegel, however one paintingthat shares its ambiguity is Grant Wood s 1930
painting American Gothic. The ambiguity stems from the uncertainty of whether
these paintings are critiquing or celebrating their subjects.
Bruegel was so well known for painting the lower class; it was often believed that

Wood s upbringing and surroundings are what inspired him to create American
Gothic, his most famous work in 1930. While in his native Iowa, Wood observed a
little wood farmhouse, with a single oversized window, made in a style called

The United States has pride in being a melting pot of different cultures and ideas.
With such great cultures comes the best part: food. In any given area in the United
States, you can find different cuisines ranging from Italian to Chinese. For this
activity, I chose to convince four friends to try Indian food with me. Indian food
typically does not appeal to Americans because we perceive the amount of spices
used in the cuisine as excessive. However, I believe in expanding tastes and trying

Determinants of Health. This statement illustrates the impact that power, privilege,

inequity is largely rooted in ageism, classism, sexism, homophobia and racism, this
inequity is apparent in the differential outcomes seen across the respective

greatest scientist in the 19th century. He was born in Newington, Surrey, England,
on September 22, 1791. Faraday was self taught he only went to school at 13 and got

Another method is to the Question Understanding Aid (QUAID). QUAID is a
mechanism to test for issues in wording of a survey question, such as vague words
or question length or even grammatical issues. The goal of QUAID is to ensure
that each question is grammatically correct, and easy for the respondent to
comprehend (Schaeffer and Dykema, 2011, 921). A third method and last method is
to use cognitive interviews. Cognitive interviews are small group discussions to talk
about issues or topics to help in the process of writing survey questions and making
the survey process go quicker (BCB, 2014:434). All three methods will be used for
questionnaire improvement. For the cognitive interviews, two interviews were done
