Brain Is Highly Metabolic And Important Organ Of The Body
Brain is highly metabolic and important organ of the body. Even though it weighs only 2% body
weight, however, requires disproportionate amount (~20 %) of the total blood flow.
Unprecedented fall in cerebral blood flow (CBF) would quickly lead to unconsciousness and, if
sustained for longer period of time would result in brain damage and death. Therefore, CBF is
tightly regulated in the brain, as it facilitates the delivery of essential substrates required for
metabolism and removal of metabolic by products.
1.1.1 Mechanism regulating CBF
The cerbrovasculature is always under the combined influence of a number of physical and
chemical stimuli that adjust vascular caliber/resistance so as to alter the blood supply to different
parts of the brain (Bayliss, 1902; Lassen, 1959). Autoregulation and metabolic coupling are 2
important mechanism which regulates the CBF to the brain. Autoregulation ensures that constant
blood flow is supplied in the face of changes in perfusion pressure. The mechanism through which
autoregulation controls the blood flow during pressure changes is thought to be myogenic in
nature but other factors such as metabolic (CO2, O2, and so on) factors also assert some influence
(Osol et al., 2002; Paulson et al., 1990; Peterson et al., 2011). Furthermore, metabolic coupling
mechanisms ensure that blood flow is increased in active regions. CBF is highly variable across the
brain and largely dependent on neuronal activity, thus, an increase in neuronal

Bad Atonement Theology And Broken Justice Systems
The Broken Cross;
Bad Atonement Theology and Broken Justice Systems
Introduction As we move through Holy Week, the journey of Lent leads Christians to not simply
commemorate Jesus suffering on the cross, but engage the paschal event on every level of our
experiences. For me, this included questioning the impact of the execution which stands so central
to Christianity. In her book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,
Michelle Alexander describes how the mass incarceration of black Americans has been steadily
undermining any progress made by the civil rights movement. She argues that even though Jim
Crow laws are no longer written, the plethora of young people of color arrested remain
marginalized by a broken justice system. The United States represents about 4.4% of the world s
population, it houses around 22 % of the world s prisoners, an overwhelming majority of whom
are young, poor, and black. Recently, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed a bill to allow the
use of the electric chair in executions when the drugs for lethal injections are not available. How
has this frighteningly oppressive system become normative justice for America? Does focusing on
the crucifixion as the foundation of Christian transition per dispose modern Christians to be
unconcerned with the death penalty as a fixture of our justice system? In this essay, I will explore
the impact of a deformed atonement theology on modern Christian s interactions with our

Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal Essay
In The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal: Sources of Sadism, Marianne Szegedy Maszak informs the
reader of the situation United States guards caused against Iraqi detainees. Under Bush s
presidency, United States soldiers brought physical abuse and humiliation upon the Abu Ghraib
Prison. Szegedy Maszak briefly analyzes the situation and compares the abuse to further scientific
experiments in which test obedience. One of the experiments was the topic of another article titled,
The Stanford Prison Experiment, written by Philip G. Zimbardo. In his work, Zimbardo discusses
the experiment he held at Stanford University. A group of male students from the university were
paid to participate in an experiment held in a mock prison. Half of the group... Show more content

In his article The Social Contract and Human Rights, Grant effectively shares the importance of
human rights to society. He believes even meager obedience to inadequate authority is unethical
by stating, When obedience is either enforced through conquest or slavery, or is simply the result
of blind and unthinking compliance with the law, there is no free, intelligent, and conscious
choice involved (Grant 18). In situations like the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal, Grant would
confirm human rights given to the guards were lacking, which allowed them to conform with the
social pressures of law enforcement. While testing obedience in his experiment, Zimbardo
encountered a contrary thought. For his specific experiment, the subjects were assigned consent
paperwork and monetary reward for participation. The right to discontinue one s experience was
given; however, specific instructions to perform the roles were not. After he distributed nearly
zero guidelines to his experimental guards, Zimbardo discovered, ...the guards became more
aggressive, prisoners became more passive (Zimbardo 106). The test required only one individual
to commence the abuse for the other subjects to follow along. The editors of ABC News
Primetime would agree with this, as a shocking story from a Texas McDonalds was shared during
their Basic Instinct 5: Milgram Experiment Re visited program. Similarly, all the trouble was due to

The Influence Of Deception In Raven Black
Deception is the action of betraying and letting someone down. Sometimes individuals are so
caught up in the moment that they do not think about the consequences of their actions. In the
novel Raven Black, deception is shown throughout the story by a murder, mystery of a missing
girl, and a kidnap. The thriller Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves, takes place during the dark cold
winter in January, in the ShetlandIslands. In the novel, every character reveals a different mindset
by their actions and thoughts. In the article, Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That
Shape Our Lives, Maria Popova talks about how every individual has a different mindset. Someone
with a fixed mindset assumes that they cannot change for the better and their intelligence or
qualities are fixed traits. On the contrary, someone with a growth mindset enjoys a challenge, they
believe they can learn from their mistakes and most importantly they know there is always room
for improvement. In Raven Black, Inspector Jimmy Perez, Magnus Tait and Sally Henry show
whether they have a fixed or growth mindset, which result in how they act and think throughout the
novel. Inspector Jimmy Perez is a diligent and clever detective who does not settle for the first clue
he notices in an investigation. In the novel Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves Inspector Perez shows he
has a growth mindset, by having an open mindand not blaming Magnus Tait for the murderof
Catherine Ross. He takes into consideration that he cannot be

Patricia Prostitute Addicted To Crack Analysis
The story of the prostitute addicted to crack, Patricia, who changed her life around after she
gave birth to her 6th child impacted me. After she got help she was able to get off drugs, obtain
a part time job, get an apartment, and most importantly keep her youngest child. Her addiction
was preventing her from taking care of her children and costing herself her dignity. It was
inspiring to see her stay sober and being able to provide for her oldest and youngest child.
Unfortunately, Patricia s story also showed how her mistakes were being repeated by her son. This
seems to occur often in families involved with addictionand violence.

Early Timurid Art
The early Timurid art displayed strong Chinese influences. T. Lentz and G. Lowry found that
cursive and poetic lines and contours in Persian manuscripts might be the outcome of Persians
study of the Chinese literati paintings. Some of the Chinese sketches on Buddhist monks or birds
such as hawks were reproduced in the Timurid Court. The admiration of the Chinese styles was
more evident in the paintings by Kamal al Din Bihzad whose advocacy of Romanticism and
Naturalism had their references to pre modern Chinese still life and landscape paintings. Besides
paintings and manuscripts, the record of trade transactions in Turfan specifies that the major export
from the Central Asiato Chinawas horses, while the imports were robes, silk and paper money. In

Frankenstein As The Master In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelly`s book, Frankenstein, Frankenstein tells Walton this story to attempt to free him
from being a slave to his desire to be something greater than he was destined to be. Frankenstein
tells of how he turned from his human nature and created another human being, thus giving way to
how the story moved on. However there were many repeated themes such as those of heaven and
hell, God and Adam, as well as the ideal of a master and a slave. This, the master and slave,
comparison is brought up a few times within the book between the monster and Frankenstein.
Through the text, it would be implied that even though the Monster or Frankenstein could be
viewed as the masters , neither of them are truly free, but rather slaves to their own emotions....

They could also be led to this conclusion because of Frankenstein is able to create the monster a
companion, as the monsters asks him too. The monster directly asks Frankenstein to do this in
the book, You must create a Female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those
sympathies necessary for my being. (Shelley 140). From that we can see how the monster feels
that he needs a companion, and demands that Frankenstein makes him one, and even demands it,
directly stating that, ...I demand it of you as a right that you cannot refuse to concede. (140).
From this, the idea could be pulled that the monster is not the master, demanding his slave to do
as he wishes, but instead a slave begging for his master to give him what is rightfully his.
Frankenstein would even have been able to hunt down the monster, and kill it before it caused any
trouble, however he was unwilling to because it would harm his reputation and possibly kill him.
The reader would also be able to pull out of the text that the monster may be the Master, seeing as
how it (the monster) causes Frankenstein pain by killing his friends, family and even having a
direct effect on Frankenstein `s emotions, but that leads my directly to my next

The intrauterine device (copper T) is most common method used for contraception as it is an
economical and effective method. It is associated with complications like bleeding, perforation
and migration to neighboring organs or omentum. Perforation of the urinary bladder by an IUD
is extremely rare. A retrospective study was carried out in a medical college to find out the
incidence of displacement of copper T over a period of one year (Jan 2013 to Dec 2013). Total 240
copper T were inserted as IUD. There were only two cases of displaced copper T. In one case,
cooper T migrated into adjacent broad ligament while in another case it migrated into urinary
bladder.

Lithium Ion Batteries And Its Effects
Lithium ion batteries were introduced commercially during the early 1990 s as the desire for
smaller and more lightweight rechargeable batteries grew with the increased demand for the
improvement of portable electronic devices (Yoshino, 2012). Prior to this there were
commercially available rechargeable batteries already on the market, predominately in the form
of lead acid (PbA), Nickel Cadmium (NiC) and Nickel Metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The
development of the Lithium ion (Li ion) battery began due to the knowledge of lithium s low
redox reaction rate and high energy to weight ratio (Wu, 2015), which, it was believed would make
Li ion batteries a good option for introducing smaller, more energy rich batteries to the growing
market.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the continuous research and development in the chemistry of Li ion batteries the
components have been extensively studied in an attempt to find the best materials to ensure a
battery with a high energy capacity and safety features. There are a wide range of cathode
materials available for use in a Li ion battery. Those with a good level of stability at high
temperatures, insolubility in the electrolyte and good electrical conductivity (Chakrabarti, 2008)
being the ideal choice for the cathode. In general cathodes consist of lithium metal oxides and these
layered or intercalated oxides containing nickel, cobalt and manganese are those which have been
studied most extensively. Both cobalt and nickel have a high voltage, making these metals excellent
options for the cathode, however, the availability of cobalt is quite limited. Manganese is a low cost
substitution but it has limited cycling behaviour, hence mixtures of these metals are combined to
provide a cathode with a high thermal threshold, good rate capabilities and availability with low
toxicity and low cost (Claus, 2008). Recent studies have highlighted polyoxyanion structures, such
as Lithium Iron Phosphate, as options for the cathode material, providing high electrochemical
performances as well as nontoxicity (Chakrabarti, 2008). As with cathode materials, there are many
options for the material of the anode, with each providing different advantages. The Anode requires
a high and reversible

Theme Of War In A Farewell To Arms
Ernest Hemingway s novel A Farewell to Arms covers a romance that takes place during World
War I. The novel itself came out shortly after the war, and was the first of Hemingway s books to
become a best seller. Essentially, the novel contrasts the horrors of war with the romance of Henry
and Catherine. Throughout the plot, Hemingway, a World War I veteran himself, uses the events of
the book to make a statement about his thoughts on war. The core message of Hemingway s A
Farewell to Armsis that war damages the soldiers who fight in it both physically and emotionally,
which is primarily illustrated by the number of deaths caused directly and indirectly by the war,
the actions Henry is forced to take over the course of the book, and Henry s growing cynicism
towards war. The first piece of evidence supporting this theme is the deaths caused by the war,
especially those important to Henry. Directly, soldiers are killed in battle, from being shot by
enemies, hit by mortarshells, or in one case, shot by their own allies. When Henry and his
companions are separated from the Italian army and try to get back to the main forces, as they
attempt to cross an embankment, Two more shots came from the thick brush and Aymo, as he was
crossing the tracks, lurched, tripped and fell face down (Hemingway 213). Henry believes the
Italian soldiers were the ones who fired the shots, saying, We are in more danger from Italians than
Germans. The rear guard are afraid of everything. The Germans

Whole Food Market Essay
Introduction
Food and water are the basic needs for living on the planet earth and all that leads to a food chain.
What happened to that food chain? Nothing changed but one more thing added in the chain and is
called Pesticide or additives. In this situation lot of companies emerged under the organic slogan
and among them, one of the leading company is Whole food market. Whole Foods Market (WFM)
captured 40% of American market share in past October but some of the major competitors for
WFM are: Spout Trader, Joe, Walmart and Costco (Economist, 2014).This essay covers the
secondary research about the options for increasing share value and the abilities of whole food.
Moreover, essay covers the ideas generated with their pros and cons and recommendation of one
option, in order to achieve success by maximizing shareholder value.
Facts and Findings
Whole Food Market is one of the most successful organic food grocery chains. Health
consciousness among the Americans is increasing day by day, with that Whole Foodssupplies
organic foods which satisfies their demand and makes it a successful brand (WholeFoodsMarket,
2014). The fiscal year 2013 was the best year for the company as the sales of the company touched
13 billion dollars. Expansion in 10 new markets with 32 new stores shows how the company has
been successful. (Wholefoodsmarket, 2013)

Existentialism as Exemplified in The Seventh Seal
The Seventh Seal is a 1957 Swedish film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. The film offers
interwoven storyline. It starts with a game of chess between a medieval knight, Antonius Block,
and Death in which if Block won, Death will prolong the knight s life. This game goes on in
intermittent times.
The knight is accompanied by his squire, Jöns, as they go back to the knight s castle to be
reunited with his wife. Throughout their journey, they come across various characters and people
in the village who are struggling amidst the impending death brought about by the Black Plague.

The existence of a Supreme Being is being summoned in situations where people are in need of
such assistance. Truly a remarkable film, The Seventh Seal effectively portrays this question in
sight of existentialism. God, neither the devil, was not present. There was even a scene where
Block asked the woman accused of having contact with the devil to summon the devil so that
Block will be able to ask about the about the existence of God. Block was not able to see anything.
As it turns out, the woman was falsely accused by the priest.
Block came to a point where he asked the existence of God when he confesses to Death,
disguised as a priest but Death himself did not give answers to this. Even at the end of the film,
Death did not explain this to Block. Quoting Block, My life has been a futile pursuit, a
wandering, a great deal of talk without meaning. I feel no bitterness or self reproach because the
lives of most people are very much like this. In what pursuit did he wasted his time into? Perhaps
he was pertaining to his search for the existence of God.
Aside from Block, a more existential character than him is introduced his squire, Jöns. In Jöns
conversation with the painter in the church, he mentioned that, This is squire Jöns. He grins at
Death, mocks the Lord, laughs at himself and leers at the girls. His world is a Jöns world,

Shared Team Leadership Paper
Shared Team Leadership
For high performance team, shared leadership is important as a project moves through the phases of
initiation, early phase, later phase and close. Wu and Cormican (2016) found that managers should
focus on developing strong internal leadership patterns at the early stage to maximize team
effectiveness, where shared leadership is prominent with team members interacting, cooperating
and exchanging information. As the team advances into later phase, leadership would turn to focus
on few individuals who might consistently demonstrate greater leadership competence. In addition,
the leader would benefit from the effective use of the Hill model for team leadership ( A
framework, 2013), in making decision (to take action or to continue to monitor the situation) and
assessing appropriate actions (internal relation related, internal task related, or external action).

within the organization, information processing, and technology transfer collaboration with a

Is the embedded derivative closely related? In the event it is, the contract cannot be bifurcated and
must be considered as a whole, though ASC 815 40 15 2 discusses contracts that are indexed to
and potentially settled in an entity s stock. Additionally, ASC 815 15 35 2 offers an alternative
solution if the embedded derivative cannot be reliably measured or identified, and that is to
assign a fair value to the entire contract, with gains and losses across reporting periods flowing
through earnings. ASC 480 10 10 1 gives the objective of ASC 480 as the requirement to classify
as a liability a freestanding financial instrument that embodies obligations for the issuer. It states in
ASC 480 10 15 3 that freestanding financial instrument could include one with traits of equity and
liability. It places a restriction on these instruments in ASC 480 10 15 5 by disallowing features
embedded in a financial instrument that is not, in its entirety, a derivative, making the use of ASC
480 an all or nothing proposition since the guidance encompasses the financial instrument in its
entirety (ASC 480 10 25 1). The contract between Hearts and Bionic contains obligations as defined
by the ASC 480 that are conditional and/or unconditional, such as the contingent redemption right.
ASC 480 20 30 7 requires fair value for financial instruments under ASC 480.

Key Implications Of The Solow Model
The Solow model is widely considered to be the standard neoclassical economic growth model
which serves as the basis for understanding economic growth. I will first introduce the two basic
equations that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the
way. I will then present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and
implications. I will then address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used
to study the dynamics near the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of
Mankiw et al. (1992) and what they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate
production function of the model. Let us denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of
productive efficiency (A). The production function can then be written as:
Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the contrary, if a is high then the rate of convergence is low because diminishing returns set in
slowly.
The differential equation for output convergence is quite similar. Assuming Cobb Douglas
technology we can show that y=k^a which then implies that y М‡/y=a k М‡/k by taking logs and
differentiating with respect to time. Here a is translating a given growth rate of capital into a given
growth rate of output. Substituting into the previous differential equation we get a new one for the
growth rate of output:
y ̇/y≈ λ[logy logy^*]
The growth rate in each of these expressions is linear in the gap from the steady state measured in
logarithms.
Solving both differential equations and re arranging we get: logy(t) =(e^( О»t) )logy(0)+(1 e^(
О»t) )logy^* (5) k(t) k^*=(e^( О»t) )[k(0) k^*]

The manifestation of Frederick Taylor s theory of Scientific Management was a major breakthrough
in traditional approaches in the twentieth century, it proposed in enhancing the business economic
efficiency by simplifying and optimising organisational tasks with scientific methods which in
turn would increase productivity (Taylor, 1911). Taylor s methods of rigid control of workers to
enhance productivity was met with widespread support by industrialists and economists in the
USA and Britain. On the contrary Human Relations School of Thought was a movement which
saw workers in a different light, instead of viewing them as merely one more cog in the company
wheel as Taylor, it asserted that the organisation will prosper as it helps the employee to prosper.
Over the course of time the onus has shifted from Taylor s Scientific Managementto Human
Relations School of Thought as the dynamic nature of business has led to a change in the mind set
of people and they give more prominence to employee participation and well being than just
financial incentives.
Taylor s Scientific Management theory which saw huge upsurge in the 1910 s and it facilitated the

by Gap Inc. s was lower than Abercrombie amp; Fitch, such as the price range of man s tee was
US$30 $40 while Gap offered US $ 19.5 29.5 for the same type of products. Consumers therefore
have some power but not high in apparel industry, due to the low switching costs.
In clothing industry, risk of rivalry among existing firms and threat of substitute products are high;
bargaining power of buyers are moderate; threat of new entrants and bargaining power of suppliers
are low.

Second Industrial Revolution Research Paper
The second industrial revolution refers to the time period of 1870s and 1880 s, which profoundly
altered the European life. The major innovations of the second industrial revolution include the
widespread use of steel and electricity in the industries, the perfection of mass production
technology, the rise of technical education in colleges and universities and the growth of a new
professional class in the society (More). It was a period of centralized management and control,
which integrated the means of production, distribution and marketing of goods. The second

It also opened the door to new jobs for women. The First Industrial Revolution led to major
political changes and new liberties in Europe. The two political parties, the Whigs and the Tories
dominated English politics during this period. Industrial revolution emphasized individualism and
natural economic law, supporting the ideas of a planned economy and social cooperation. England
paralleled an incomparable degree of political liberty with economic and social reforms, avoiding
the extremes of the industrial revolution (More). However, political upheaval, wars, fluctuations in
imports and exports resulted in unemployment and widespread distress. Technological
improvements mobilized the factors of production, namely, land, labor and capital. During the First
Industrial Revolution, there was a mutual dependence between industry and commerce; however,
the inadequate communication system could not bring buyers and sellers together (Simpson and

Theory Of Planned Behavior Essay
The main objective of the paper is to examine Azjen s theory of planned behavior based on past
research that examined what influences one s intention to do things based on their beliefs,
attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. In a prospective British study
conducted by Higgins and Conner in 2001, they researched the ability of the Theory of Planned
Behavior (TPB) to predict smoking intentions and behavior in adolescents. A total of 162 Subjects
(11 12 years old) were randomly selected from different schools across the region out of the 347
initially recruited. The research was done over a period of 8 weeks and students were asked to
complete a self reported questionnaire at the beginning and the end of the study period. Their
respective schools verified information provided by the student. The TPB questionnaires assessed
behavioral intentions, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The study
suggested that intentions resulted in a small reduction in smoking and intent to smoke for the study

included 103 smoking students (average age of 24.6years with an 8 years smoking experience).
Participants were asked to fill out a TPB questionnaire at the beginning and were contacted after 4
months to fill out a follow up questionnaire. The questions consisted of intention to quit, attitudes
towards quitting, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The result suggested that
quitting behavior are linked with intentions as the people with stronger intentions to quit made

The Use Of Art And The Focal Points
Established as a military fort, Dura Europos fended off Persian invaders from the Roman Empire.
The Persians eventually defeated Dura, however when the city was rediscovered many
monuments were found (Tronzo). The most common form of surviving art consisted of paintings
found on the interior walls of buildings in Dura. In particular, two buildings were found that had
been used as religious meeting places. The first is a domus ecclesiae which is Greek for house
church that belonged to the Christian community (Tronzo). The second is a Jewish synagogue that
was built in Dura specifically for use by the Jews. Both of these establishments contain paintings
that were used for ritual and symbolism, but they differ in a couple key ways: their narrative,
their style, and their focus. In particular, this paper seeks to compare the use of art and the focal
points (or niche) in the domus ecclesiae and the synagogue. The domus ecclesiae was established
around 235 CE. The artist is unknown, but definitely made by Christians. This is evidenced by
the location of the murals. These murals lie deep inside a home in Dura Europos, and are not
accessible directly from the front. Secco is used in these paintings, and was much easier to use
than fresco. This style of painting was cheaper than fresco because it allowed the artist to paint onto
dry plaster instead of painting into wet plaster. The style is interesting, because the murals are not
lavish (Tronzo). For example, although the

Tommy Hilfiger Essay
Tommy Hilfiger Case Study: EC 2102
This essay it will examine the economic, social and political issues that shaped Tommy Hilfiger

than concentrating on the domestic market and secondly it will analyse if operating globally
affected the prices for Hilfiger s merchandise. Analysing the prices will lead to a conclusion which
will reveal if it has created any problems for the Hilfiger s organisation.
In the United States clothing sales in general have been growing less than 5 percent per year,

It is clear that focusing sales in the domestic market would have been disadvantage to Hilfiger.
Invested internationally to create more demand and make use of the resources is fundamental
in foreign direct investment. This would have prompted Tommy Hilfiger to sell on an
international basis rather than focusing purely on the domestic market. Larger firms are able to
capture economies of scale and hence produce goods more cheaply than smaller and presumably
less efficient firms (Brown, D Swanson, L 2003: 234). This is apparent, with Tommy Hilfiger
and its partners operate over 350 stores worldwide . (Tommy Hilfiger, 2012). By becoming a
larger firm and having a large number of stores worldwide will secure the economies of scale.
This has a variety of benefits for the Tommy Hilfiger which will help lower production costs and
with the extra profits, Hilfiger may want expand further to capitalized on new markets. In addition,
with stores worldwide it may help reduce the risks of depending on one market to support the long
term future of the Hilfiger s corporation. These benefits for the Hilfiger business can be associated
with Dunning s eclectic theory which looks at the collective view of the benefits engaging in
Foreign Direct Investment, (FDI), (Gilpin,R 2001). One of the rewards in FDI the location specific

Complications Of Cancer And Treatments
Complications of Cancer and Available Treatments
Cancer complications and treatments are dependent on patient s health conditions and stage of the
cancer. Common complications caused by cancer include pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting,
dyspnea (breathlessness), and metastasis (cancer that spreads) (Mayo Clinic Complications, 2016).
Pain is one of the main physical complications, as the nerves surrounding the tissues feel the
pressure due to growing tumor. Pain medications and alternate therapies like massage, yoga, and
acupuncture can help patients to cope up with the pain (Mayo Clinic Complications, 2016). Fatigue
can be caused by the side effects of treatments as well and physical and mental distress. Fatigue can
be managed through balanced diet and managing stress and medication side effects (Cancer.Net,
2016). Certain tumors and malignancy medications can bring about nausea and vomiting. It causes
much inconveniences to the patient. Nausea and vomiting can be controlled by medications.
Dyspnea which is a feeling of breathlessness can be caused by tumor or other related conditions,
which can be managed by medications and relaxation techniques (Cancer.Net, 2016). Treating these
complications by medications and other approaches can improve the patient s general wellbeing,
and survival chance.

The central point of this article is to discuss the relationships between the colonizers and
colonized in culture and imperialism. Because the links between these two things (culture and

societies. In some ways this article even looks into race relations and why they are the way they
are today. Arguing that, British indirect rule effectively resulted in racial segregation (Bush 225).
We can see that racism can be linked to a cultural problem that still effects the race relations that
we have today. The study of the indifference the British and French had when they colonized can

This example definitely is applicable to the colonization of Hong Kong. Hong Kong was
colonized after the Opium War era and soon grew to become a huge center for commerce and a
key connection point from the east to the west. This idea is exemplified by Hong Kong because
the area was lacking in economic and technology before the British came along. However I wish the
author would have given an example of the statement that: cultural power may be defined as the
will to dominate and not be dominated, to impose change whilst remaining unchanged. Because
from my observations of Hong Kong perhaps each culture wanted to impose their ideas onto one
another but what actually happened was a nice combination of both Chinese culture and British
culture effecting one another to create something new. Like many places in Asia there is a large
American/English influence but in Hong Kong it is definitely greater because of the fact that
English is commonly spoken there. The author s argument is strong however I felt it necessary to
provide my own examples because Bush lacks those cohesive examples to make her points
stronger and better supported. I do not see any problems with her argument however it would have
been nice if it provided greater historical context. Even though it would have made this piece a lot
longer it would have been nice for her to go into those details so that the reader could understand

The Importance Of Violent Video Games
Not only does gaming take up a significant amount of time, but research show[s] that playing
violent video games can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in
laboratory settings and in daily life (American Psychological Association). Aggressive behavior
hurts relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is
aggressive people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them
to become aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that
compared with a group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in
Mortal Kombat were more aggressive across the board. They gave their fellow students
significantly bigger portions of the hot sauce (Carey). Examples of increased aggressive
behaviors climax when events such as real life attacks and shootings happen and can be attributed
to video games. Now I wouldn t say video games are the only factor in events like these but it s
hard to imagine they play no significant role either. Take the following drastic event as an example:
Two men accused of running down Jerry Steinberg with a car, then beating and kicking him into
a coma, . . . had spent part of the previous night drinking beer and playing Grand Theft Auto III . .
. After attacking Steinberg, they played the video game again, police were told. Meanwhile, about

Whenever the area of interest involves the differences, comparison, proportions or variability, then
data can be collected on two or more groups this would be considered the target parameter (Lind,
Marchal, Wathen, 2011).
In a quantitative analysis the interest is more likely to compare means or variances; whereas, a
qualitative experiment with two outcomes is more likely to focus on success or failure. When
comparing the means of two or more groups these populations can both or all be independent and
the expectation is to determine the reason for a difference in the means this would deliver a result
where the means are other than zero. The typical assumption is that there will be a normal
distribution and that a random sample is collected for each of the populations. Another
characteristic of comparing means of two or more groups is that when standard deviation is
known or unknown and the population sample is large, then a z distribution (z test) is used and
in the case where it is unknown and the sample size is small, then a t distribution (t test) is used.
However, in the case where the experiment calls for a test of two or more dependent samples for
one group or population, then a paired t test is used to draw results (Lind, Marchal, Wathen, 2011).

The Global Economic Environment
EMBA 683 Fall 2011
Case: U.S. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Policy Reactions
1) What are the causes behind the U.S. Subprime mortgage crisis? Is one cause more responsible
than another?
The first and more important factor that lead to the subprime mortgage crisis was governments
creation of Freddie and Fannie. This move by the government to intercede the private financial
industry sector eventually lead to the US government being the largest lender of mortgages in the
US. In addition to the flawed notion that government should determine who and how a borrow

continue to bailout Freddie and Fannie.
2) What has the Fed done with regard to monetary policy to address the economic downturn
resulting from the subprime crisis? What is your assessment of how Ben Bernake has handled the
situation?
The Fed implemented several strategies in an attempt to stabilize the economy by first targeting the
struggling Financial Industry. The first move by Bernake was to reduce the target funds rate to 0
0.25% in an attempt to provide liquidity to the banks that needed it. Benake also increased
government spending by building up their balance sheet with the assets that were currently frozen
in the capital markets, such as mortgage backed securities. The Fed believed that by purchasing
these assets from the banks it will remove the assets from the banks but also recreate a market for
these type of financial instruments, which would ultimately help the housing industry as well. To

He wanted to end the problems in China and bring peace to society. Confucius believed that
people needed to have a sense of duty. Duty meant that a person must put the needs of family and
community before his or her own needs. Each person owed a duty to another person. Parents
owed their children love, and children owed their parents honor. Husbands owed their wives
support, and wives owed their husbands obedience. Above all, rulers had to set good examples. If a
king ruled for the common good, his subjects would respect him and society would prosper.

Significance of the Ghost of Beloved in Toni Morrison s...
In Beloved, Toni Morrison frequently alternates between telling stories from Sethe s past, to
telling events in the present. Morrison introduces Beloved, who serves as the link between Sethe
and Paul D s past at Sweet Home as slaves, and the present, living in Ohio as a free family of three:
Sethe, Paul D. and Denver. The character of Belovedallows Morrison to explain the experiences
and characteristics of the three characters, and how they are reactions to their pasts. Up to
Beloved s arrival, Sethe and Denver lived in a spiteful house. , which created a state of
uneasiness. The ghost of Beloved had driven off Sethe s two sons, yet the mother and daughter

her extended, labored journey reveals how she is determined to disrupt the troubled lives at 124.
Sethe, Paul D., and Denver, are all in some state of conflict in the current circumstances of their
lives at the beginning of the novel. Although Beloved s arrival to 124 initially brings more upset
to the lives, it eventually leads to resolution for the family. Beloved embodies many of the
secrets of the three s pasts. She symbolizes the history of the family not only with her physical
appearance, but also with the relationships she forms with the three. When Beloved arrives at
124, she appears to be in extremely poor health. She has difficulty breathing. Sethe and Paul D.
initially suspect her symptoms are due to asthma and cholera. Although she appears to have
health problems, obviously Morrison described the apparition of Beloved as sick for symbolic
reasons. Actual health problems for a ghost are impossible, thus Beloved s choleric and
asthmatic symptoms internalizes the grief and distress she has for being murdered as an infant
by her own mother. Beloved s first meeting with Sethe, Denver and Paul D. foreshadows her
relationships with the three. Paul D. and Denver try to quench Beloved s thirst by serving her
several glasses of water. Her poor health is what causes Denver to step out of her selfish character,
and care for Beloved. Up until Beloved s arrival, Denver is

Personal Self Control And Early Intervention
PAGE 1 Personal Self Control or Early Intervention Self Control The term self control defines as,
someone s control over his or her own impulses, emotions, feelings and actions (Jack Gantos,
2016). Early Intervention To avoid a crisis, you need to be able to observe or assess the situation
in such a way as to notice when it is beginning to develop into a crisis (Saskatchewan Polytechnic,
2016, p. 29). There are some basic elements of crisis. For instance, they occur quakily,
unexpected and follows specific phases. It is an important thing to know more about our
strengths and triggers before dealing crisis. We are responsible for our emotions and feelings.
For this assignment, I would like to follow the points given above for the early intervention and
self control: Listen Listening is the core of any process. For the early intervention, it is important
for front line workers to listen properly to the clients and individuals. For the non verbal clients,
we have to be aware about their body language and signs for communication. For instance, when I
was on my one week practicum, I worked with one non verbal client. She always used her hands
to deliver any kind of message. I became aware of her messages that delivered by using hands from
his daily log book. Listening is more important than assuming situation. Perception Check After
listening, it is important to understand the person and situation for the better results. For this
purpose, I would like to follow

The Subculture Of Violence Theory
The subculture of southern violence theory is just one of many cultural transmissions theories
discussed in Miller s text. Cultural transmission theories determine that the values, beliefs, and
norms of subcultures (deviant or no) contrast with the dominant culture. Therefore, it is possible for
a subculture to justify criminal behavior as normal or necessary when it comes to one s reputation
and self defense. Because the southern region of the United States is known to have high crimerates
than other regions of the United States and as a whole, the subculture of violencetheory was
hypothesized by Wolfgang and Ferracuti during the late 1960s. Other researchers: Ball Rokeach,
1973; Erlanger, 1974; and Hartnagel, 1980 theorized what factors may be the cause of the high
crime rates in the southern region as well. This discussion will explore the implications of whether
or not their findings adequately support the existence of the subculture of southern violence theory.
Wolfgang and Ferracuti furthered the subculture of violence theory from the insights of cultural
deviance theorists before them. Basing their theorizations entirely upon inferences from available
statistics on homicide at that time, which illustrated a concentration of violent crimein primarily
poor, racialized neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Through these statistics, the authors deduce that
subcultural violence is a uniquely marginalized male phenomenon. Wolfgang and Ferracuti argue
that violence is a

Civil Rights Movement During The Civil War
Civil Rights Movement With the winning of the Civil War still in the minds of many,
conducting interviews of previous slaves intrigued those wanting to know what it was like
being a slave. With the interview there is a look inside the life of, a woman still in her
childhood, what her life was like, and how she dealt with being a slave. The life of a slave was
no easy feat, but with perseverance many made it to the wars end, although life still has many
hardships for the Freedman today. The interview was given to Betty Powers by the New Deals
Federal Writer s Project in 1936, quite a few years after the slaves were freed. These interviews
were given to give a look into the life of a slave, what they went through, and the pains and turmoil
that white people had caused. This interview just proved how terrible and inhumane slavery was,
and why it needed to be ended, although it caused the south to completely change its ways in the
Reconstruction Era. In the textbook there were views from both the North and the South on
slavery and its end. This article is on the view of the slaves and the North, believing it was the right
thing to end slavery, and that the color of your skin doesn t mean you aren t human. On the South s
view, they believed the opposite that African Americans were below the whites, and were meant for
harsh labor. The treatment of African Americans thus leads to Reverend Henry McNeal Turner to
give a speech before the Georgia State Legislator in 1868, because

Pros And Cons Of Robber Barons
To decide upon which of either title the titans deserve more of, let us first consider what exactly
identifies and discerns a captain from a filthy baron. A captain of industry is a leader in their field.
The prosperity their expertise generates does not necessarily go to them. It advances or benefits the
entire economy. They create wealth. A robber baron, by comparison, focuses all their efforts on
creating or benefiting themselves, at the expense of society as a whole. They exploit wealth and
are filthy economic sell outs. Knowing the difference, it holds true that the super rich economic
titans of industry shouldn t be particularly referred to as captains or barons. All titans, from
Commodore Vanderbilt to J.P. Morgan, were so deserving

The Expansion and Uses of Internet Browers

some of the web browsers that are used throughout the world. These web browsers have become

accomplish tasks that they need to get done. The beginning of this profitable and popular invention
all started back in 1990.
Internet browsers have been around for the last 23 years. The first browser to be invented in 1990

The wider range of devices has made it easily accessible to access the internet. With more devices
having the ability to access the internet, web browser companies were making it their target to
make sure that their browser was the one being used. They would pay other technology
companies to put their web browser on their devices. For example, Xbox 360 uses Bing as their
main web browser and iPhone uses safari as their main browser. One of the main uses that
people around the world use web browsers is to go on social networking sites, such as Facebook,
Twitter, Myspace, etc. Social networking sites make it easy for people to be able to see what
their friends and family have going on in their lives and it also makes it easy for them to keep in
touch with loved ones.
With cell phones and electronics becoming even more popular, there are more people using
social media networks. According to the article, We Spent 230,060 Years on Social Media in

times over, is the most popular social network in the U.S., with 152.2 million visitors on
personal computers, 78.4 million users via mobile apps, and 74.3 million visitors via the mobile
Web. (Popkin). This shows that with technology and electronics evolving there are even more
people accessing web browsers throughout the world every day and social media networks are a
big factor to why people go on and use web browsers. Web

The Historical Contexts Of The African American Vernacular...
I trust that the American lingo will keep on growing, however, different dialects/vernaculars will,
in the end, cease to exist or end up noticeably imperiled. The reason is on the grounds that there are
a huge number of dialects that many individuals don t think about; individuals need to likewise
remember that there are just a few individuals just talking certain vernacular in various locales. The
two dialects that this paper will concentrate on will be African AmericanVernacular English known
as Ebonics and the Gullah dialect; I chose to pick these two dialects since it is critical to see this
African Diaspora the two gatherings originated from oppressed Africans from West of Africa, yet
today one gathering just communicates in English while the other gathering has their own
particular dialect, for example, English, and Creole all through the areas of South Carolina, Georgia
and Florida.
African American Vernacular Englishbegan amid servitude in the south the Africans were restricted
from utilizing their local dialect. They needed to discover distinctive approaches to speak with their
partners and slave experts, however there is still no thought on how AAVE was totally made
because of the shocking disaster of bondage. The vast majority of these thoughts are just
speculations, however numerous students of history keep on studying the historical backdrop of
African American Vernacular English to discover how it began. One hypothesis proposes that when

Modern Day, The Green Living Movement
In today s modern day, the green living movement intersects local state and federal politics. it
impacts business practices, art and the media, education and health in the united states (Gordon).
The green living movement s purpose is to control pollution or protect plant and animal diversity.
In the 1960 s until the present, there has been a lot of controversy. Fallout from testing air pollution
from millions of factories, cars belching chemicals into the atmosphere, and deliberate destruction
of pristine rivers and lakes (such as Ohio s Cuyahoga River, that famously caught fire). These
disasters, including the disappearance of farmland and forests under suburban development, were a
concern to many citizens. These concerns are still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book was a pivotal instrument to ecology.
As time went on more environmental issue emerged, environmentalist advocated and protested the
green living movement so much that it received public recognition on the political stage. 1969
massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California raised a lot of attention and then governor Gaylord
Nelson was determined to do something about it. He could infuse that energy with an emerging
public consciousness about air and water pollution, would force environmental protection onto the
national political agenda. Senator Nelson announced the idea for a national teach in on the
environment to the national media (Earth Day). It became highly publicized in this time period.
The Green Living Movement went from being a major concern to citizens to being campaigned
by senators and presidents. The movement was so important, more awareness was in the works
and innovative symbols began to be created. The ecology symbol, [was] created in 1969 by Ron

Jessica Stopa
In the paper titled Factory Farming: The Truth about the Poultry Industry by Jessica Stopa, she
informs readers about the malpractices of chicken livestock in the food industry in comparison
to how traditional agriculture practices were previously before the industrialization age. Her
paper was intended to speak to American food consumers and bring to light or inform about the
severity of industrialized farming practices. The writing was prompted by one of Ms. Stopa s
english classes and the intention of this work is to rhetorically analyze her credentials. She
incorporates a heavy amount of logos into her work to backup her own logic, but also includes
bits of pathos about the treatment of chicken and ethos by referring a figure who operates a local
farm. Stopa strategically begins her first few paragraphs with multiple entries of logos to present
the strength of her point. Each transition is crafted in chronological order of how an industrial
chicken farm operates, including how the poultry are manipulated and the effects on the end
product. The writer incorporates a visual in paragraph two of a typical chicken coop, today, animals
are treated like products, stacked together... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Family At Paris France
Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there
we were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower,
Louvre and a royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in
1623 as a hunting lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions.
After Louis XIII died his son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and
for the seat of the government of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms
to be used for most of the courtiers to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the
palace. While I was on the tour we came into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in
the room as was shocked because of a sculpture in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle
of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped
balloonanimal. Directly above the dog was a massive painting covering the ceiling named
Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was named Hercules Room. The
reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog balloon sculpture was
extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it making it seem out of
place. The Balloon Dog sculpture was created by a man named Jeff Koonsin 1994. The dog is an
optimistic piece, it s similar to a balloon a clown would make for a child at a

The Culture Of Spain
The Culture of Spain
Located in the Iberian Peninsula, Spain boasts of one of the most unique cultures in Europe. At
different times, the country has been ruled by the Romans, the Visigoths, and the Moors from
North Africa. Later, the Spanish colonized the Americas and contributed greatly to the emergence
of the New World especially through the impact of Spanish explorers such as Christopher
Columbus. The historical contacts left a lasting mark on this European nation especially in relation
to culture, which has made Spain a popular tourist destination. Among other cultural aspects, Spain
is reputed for its raucous festivals as well as ruby red sangria. Today, Spanish culture still varies
from one region to the other although there are some common traditions that serve as the nation s
iconic elements (Rodgers, 2002). With its distinctive blend of food, entertainment, art, and social
conventions, Spain stand out in the whole of Europe as far as culture is concerned.
To begin with, the people of Spain are referred to as Spanish or Spaniards. Notably, there are a
number of distinct ethnic groups in Spain, including Castilians, Catalans, Galician, and Basques
comprising of 74.4%, 16.9%, 6.4%, and 1.6% respectively. All these ethnic groups have their
respective native languages, but Castilian Spanish is the country s official language (Rodgers,
2002). With regard to religion, Spain s population is predominantly Christian. Specifically, over

In short, the guidance of this project will provide further understanding of a successful organisation.
1.2 Area of Research
The areas of this research will be based on the internal and external business environment of the
organisation. Having a big picture of the organisation will helps the senior executive to
understand of where the business is headed and what actions might be aligned with the business
goals (Armour, Kaisler et al. 1999). The big picture will also helps the senior executive in
understanding which action or decision can be considered in order to support the business. The
clear mind of how the business connects to and serves the overall purpose of the business is crucial
in order to motivate every individual to work synergistically within the organisation for the success
of the business (Stimpert and Duhaime 1997).
There are a total of six areas that will be the main research areas in this project. There are corporate
responsibilities and sustainability; public interest; marketplace; stakeholder engagement; corporate
governance; and environment. This six topics will then lead to the discussion of the organisation
goals and objectives; organisation strategies; financial status; marketing plan; leadership of the

Building A Wall On The United States Mexico Border
In recent months there has been a discussion about building a wall on the United States Mexico
border. Unfortunately, it would cost over ten and a half billion (http://www.cnn.com/2016/02
/17/politics/donald trump mexico wall/) just to build this wall and it would have to be patrolled
constantly in order to keep illegal immigrants from just going over it. These costs, along with
additional cost such as maintenance, makes the wall a fiscally irresponsible plan. It is also
important to consider that illegal border crossing are just one way to enter the Unite States,
according to Pew Research every year almost half a million immigrants come in with legal visas
and then simply stay passed the expiration date (http://www.pewresearch.org/fact tank/2016/02
/03/homeland security produces first estimate of foreign visitors to u s who overstay deadline to
leave/). So if completely stopping illegal immigrants at the border isn t a workable plan, what is?
It is my opinion that the only justifiable solution is to dissuade people from coming to the United
States in the first place, this might be done by making it all but impossible for them to find
employment. There are things being done in order to do this such as workplace raids and
inspections, but the program that I feel has the most potential is the Department of Homeland
Security s E Verify system. Developed in 1997, this free program allows employers to see the legal
status of potential employees

  • 2. Brain Is Highly Metabolic And Important Organ Of The Body Brain is highly metabolic and important organ of the body. Even though it weighs only 2% body weight, however, requires disproportionate amount (~20 %) of the total blood flow. Unprecedented fall in cerebral blood flow (CBF) would quickly lead to unconsciousness and, if sustained for longer period of time would result in brain damage and death. Therefore, CBF is tightly regulated in the brain, as it facilitates the delivery of essential substrates required for metabolism and removal of metabolic by products. 1.1.1 Mechanism regulating CBF The cerbrovasculature is always under the combined influence of a number of physical and chemical stimuli that adjust vascular caliber/resistance so as to alter the blood supply to different parts of the brain (Bayliss, 1902; Lassen, 1959). Autoregulation and metabolic coupling are 2 important mechanism which regulates the CBF to the brain. Autoregulation ensures that constant blood flow is supplied in the face of changes in perfusion pressure. The mechanism through which autoregulation controls the blood flow during pressure changes is thought to be myogenic in nature but other factors such as metabolic (CO2, O2, and so on) factors also assert some influence (Osol et al., 2002; Paulson et al., 1990; Peterson et al., 2011). Furthermore, metabolic coupling mechanisms ensure that blood flow is increased in active regions. CBF is highly variable across the brain and largely dependent on neuronal activity, thus, an increase in neuronal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bad Atonement Theology And Broken Justice Systems The Broken Cross; Bad Atonement Theology and Broken Justice Systems Introduction As we move through Holy Week, the journey of Lent leads Christians to not simply commemorate Jesus suffering on the cross, but engage the paschal event on every level of our experiences. For me, this included questioning the impact of the execution which stands so central to Christianity. In her book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, Michelle Alexander describes how the mass incarceration of black Americans has been steadily undermining any progress made by the civil rights movement. She argues that even though Jim Crow laws are no longer written, the plethora of young people of color arrested remain marginalized by a broken justice system. The United States represents about 4.4% of the world s population, it houses around 22 % of the world s prisoners, an overwhelming majority of whom are young, poor, and black. Recently, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed a bill to allow the use of the electric chair in executions when the drugs for lethal injections are not available. How has this frighteningly oppressive system become normative justice for America? Does focusing on the crucifixion as the foundation of Christian transition per dispose modern Christians to be unconcerned with the death penalty as a fixture of our justice system? In this essay, I will explore the impact of a deformed atonement theology on modern Christian s interactions with our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal Essay In The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal: Sources of Sadism, Marianne Szegedy Maszak informs the reader of the situation United States guards caused against Iraqi detainees. Under Bush s presidency, United States soldiers brought physical abuse and humiliation upon the Abu Ghraib Prison. Szegedy Maszak briefly analyzes the situation and compares the abuse to further scientific experiments in which test obedience. One of the experiments was the topic of another article titled, The Stanford Prison Experiment, written by Philip G. Zimbardo. In his work, Zimbardo discusses the experiment he held at Stanford University. A group of male students from the university were paid to participate in an experiment held in a mock prison. Half of the group... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his article The Social Contract and Human Rights, Grant effectively shares the importance of human rights to society. He believes even meager obedience to inadequate authority is unethical by stating, When obedience is either enforced through conquest or slavery, or is simply the result of blind and unthinking compliance with the law, there is no free, intelligent, and conscious choice involved (Grant 18). In situations like the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal, Grant would confirm human rights given to the guards were lacking, which allowed them to conform with the social pressures of law enforcement. While testing obedience in his experiment, Zimbardo encountered a contrary thought. For his specific experiment, the subjects were assigned consent paperwork and monetary reward for participation. The right to discontinue one s experience was given; however, specific instructions to perform the roles were not. After he distributed nearly zero guidelines to his experimental guards, Zimbardo discovered, ...the guards became more aggressive, prisoners became more passive (Zimbardo 106). The test required only one individual to commence the abuse for the other subjects to follow along. The editors of ABC News Primetime would agree with this, as a shocking story from a Texas McDonalds was shared during their Basic Instinct 5: Milgram Experiment Re visited program. • 5. The Influence Of Deception In Raven Black Deception is the action of betraying and letting someone down. Sometimes individuals are so caught up in the moment that they do not think about the consequences of their actions. In the novel Raven Black, deception is shown throughout the story by a murder, mystery of a missing girl, and a kidnap. The thriller Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves, takes place during the dark cold winter in January, in the ShetlandIslands. In the novel, every character reveals a different mindset by their actions and thoughts. In the article, Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives, Maria Popova talks about how every individual has a different mindset. Someone with a fixed mindset assumes that they cannot change for the better and their intelligence or qualities are fixed traits. On the contrary, someone with a growth mindset enjoys a challenge, they believe they can learn from their mistakes and most importantly they know there is always room for improvement. In Raven Black, Inspector Jimmy Perez, Magnus Tait and Sally Henry show whether they have a fixed or growth mindset, which result in how they act and think throughout the novel. Inspector Jimmy Perez is a diligent and clever detective who does not settle for the first clue he notices in an investigation. In the novel Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves Inspector Perez shows he has a growth mindset, by having an open mindand not blaming Magnus Tait for the murderof Catherine Ross. Lowry found that cursive and poetic lines and contours in Persian manuscripts might be the outcome of Persians study of the Chinese literati paintings. Some of the Chinese sketches on Buddhist monks or birds such as hawks were reproduced in the Timurid Court. The admiration of the Chinese styles was more evident in the paintings by Kamal al Din Bihzad whose advocacy of Romanticism and Naturalism had their references to pre modern Chinese still life and landscape paintings. • 8. Frankenstein As The Master In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein In Mary Shelly`s book, Frankenstein, Frankenstein tells Walton this story to attempt to free him from being a slave to his desire to be something greater than he was destined to be. Frankenstein tells of how he turned from his human nature and created another human being, thus giving way to how the story moved on. However there were many repeated themes such as those of heaven and hell, God and Adam, as well as the ideal of a master and a slave. This, the master and slave, comparison is brought up a few times within the book between the monster and Frankenstein. Through the text, it would be implied that even though the Monster or Frankenstein could be viewed as the masters , neither of them are truly free, but rather slaves to their own emotions.... The monster directly asks Frankenstein to do this in the book, You must create a Female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being. (Shelley 140). From that we can see how the monster feels that he needs a companion, and demands that Frankenstein makes him one, and even demands it, directly stating that, ...I demand it of you as a right that you cannot refuse to concede. (140). From this, the idea could be pulled that the monster is not the master, demanding his slave to do as he wishes, but instead a slave begging for his master to give him what is rightfully his. Frankenstein would even have been able to hunt down the monster, and kill it before it caused any trouble, however he was unwilling to because it would harm his reputation and possibly kill him. The reader would also be able to pull out of the text that the monster may be the Master, seeing as how it (the monster) causes Frankenstein pain by killing his friends, family and even having a direct effect on Frankenstein `s emotions, but that leads my directly to my next ... • 10. Lithium Ion Batteries And Its Effects Lithium ion batteries were introduced commercially during the early 1990 s as the desire for smaller and more lightweight rechargeable batteries grew with the increased demand for the improvement of portable electronic devices (Yoshino, 2012). Prior to this there were commercially available rechargeable batteries already on the market, predominately in the form of lead acid (PbA), Nickel Cadmium (NiC) and Nickel Metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The development of the Lithium ion (Li ion) battery began due to the knowledge of lithium s low redox reaction rate and high energy to weight ratio (Wu, 2015), which, it was believed would make Li ion batteries a good option for introducing smaller, more energy rich batteries to the growing market.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the continuous research and development in the chemistry of Li ion batteries the components have been extensively studied in an attempt to find the best materials to ensure a battery with a high energy capacity and safety features. There are a wide range of cathode materials available for use in a Li ion battery. Those with a good level of stability at high temperatures, insolubility in the electrolyte and good electrical conductivity (Chakrabarti, 2008) being the ideal choice for the cathode. In general cathodes consist of lithium metal oxides and these layered or intercalated oxides containing nickel, cobalt and manganese are those which have been studied most extensively. Both cobalt and nickel have a high voltage, making these metals excellent options for the cathode, however, the availability of cobalt is quite limited. Manganese is a low cost substitution but it has limited cycling behaviour, hence mixtures of these metals are combined to provide a cathode with a high thermal threshold, good rate capabilities and availability with low toxicity and low cost (Claus, 2008). Recent studies have highlighted polyoxyanion structures, such as Lithium Iron Phosphate, as options for the cathode material, providing high electrochemical performances as well as nontoxicity (Chakrabarti, 2008). As with cathode materials, there are many options for the material of the anode, with each providing different advantages. The Anode requires a high and reversible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Theme Of War In A Farewell To Arms Ernest Hemingway s novel A Farewell to Arms covers a romance that takes place during World War I. The novel itself came out shortly after the war, and was the first of Hemingway s books to become a best seller. Essentially, the novel contrasts the horrors of war with the romance of Henry and Catherine. Throughout the plot, Hemingway, a World War I veteran himself, uses the events of the book to make a statement about his thoughts on war. The core message of Hemingway s A Farewell to Armsis that war damages the soldiers who fight in it both physically and emotionally, which is primarily illustrated by the number of deaths caused directly and indirectly by the war, the actions Henry is forced to take over the course of the book, and Henry s growing cynicism towards war. The first piece of evidence supporting this theme is the deaths caused by the war, especially those important to Henry. Directly, soldiers are killed in battle, from being shot by enemies, hit by mortarshells, or in one case, shot by their own allies. When Henry and his companions are separated from the Italian army and try to get back to the main forces, as they attempt to cross an embankment, Two more shots came from the thick brush and Aymo, as he was crossing the tracks, lurched, tripped and fell face down (Hemingway 213). Block was not able to see anything. As it turns out, the woman was falsely accused by the priest. Block came to a point where he asked the existence of God when he confesses to Death, disguised as a priest but Death himself did not give answers to this. Even at the end of the film, Death did not explain this to Block. Quoting Block, My life has been a futile pursuit, a wandering, a great deal of talk without meaning. I feel no bitterness or self reproach because the lives of most people are very much like this. In what pursuit did he wasted his time into? Perhaps he was pertaining to his search for the existence of God. Aside from Block, a more existential character than him is introduced his squire, JГ¶ns. Shared Team Leadership Paper Shared Team Leadership For high performance team, shared leadership is important as a project moves through the phases of initiation, early phase, later phase and close. Wu and Cormican (2016) found that managers should focus on developing strong internal leadership patterns at the early stage to maximize team effectiveness, where shared leadership is prominent with team members interacting, cooperating and exchanging information. As the team advances into later phase, leadership would turn to focus on few individuals who might consistently demonstrate greater leadership competence. In addition, the leader would benefit from the effective use of the Hill model for team leadership ( A framework, 2013), in making decision (to take action or to continue to monitor the situation) and assessing appropriate actions (internal relation related, internal task related, or external action). I will first introduce the two basic equations that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the way. I will then present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and implications. I will then address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used to study the dynamics near the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of Mankiw et al. (1992) and what they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate production function of the model. Let us denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of productive efficiency (A). The production function can then be written as: Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The manifestation of Frederick Taylor s theory of Scientific Management was a major breakthrough in traditional approaches in the twentieth century, it proposed in enhancing the business economic efficiency by simplifying and optimising organisational tasks with scientific methods which in turn would increase productivity (Taylor, 1911). The Importance Of Violent Video Games Not only does gaming take up a significant amount of time, but research show[s] that playing violent video games can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in daily life (American Psychological Association). Aggressive behavior hurts relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is aggressive people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them to become aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that compared with a group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in Mortal Kombat were more aggressive across the board. Micro Manufacture Essay This workshop proposal submitted by Texas A M University Convergence HTF: From Making to Micro Manufacture: Reimagining Work Beyond Mass Production with the objective of discussing the future of manufacturing work by convening a reimagination of the relationship of multiple fields of inquiry from Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Economics, the Social Sciences, Industrial Engineering and Education. A two stage strategy is proposed to establish the agenda for the workshop. First participants will engage in an online discussion over 2 3 months. This discussion will yield a more refined program of discussion and a selection of a broader team of participants for the face to face workshop.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To initiate the discussion about this possibility, the perspectives of multiple science, technology, educational and societal interests will be included. The possibilities for disenfranchised communities to engage in this practice to get them out of poverty in remote locations with the appropriate access to technological education makes of this problem an interesting and compelling one. The PI presents a list of initial questions that for sure could be further refined through the online meetings with the initial team he has assembled. Some of them are: How should Micro Manufacture operations be organized? How do we prepare workers to have the flexible range of skills and knowledge to function in Micro Manufacture concerns? How do we design products and processes suited to efficient Micro Manufacture? What are the units of modularity to support the range of products that may be produced? How do we evolve supply chains to handle the highly fragmented supply graphs that may be endemic of distributed Micro Manufacturing? The online engagement is certainly needed, as the questions need to be narrowed down, and perhaps make of this the first of a couple of workshops. One building on the second. The first one to engage social scientists, particularly economist, and supply chain experts as well as education researchers in a discussion of the impact of micro manufacturing in the economy at ... Whenever the area of interest involves the differences, comparison, proportions or variability, then data can be collected on two or more groups this would be considered the target parameter (Lind, Marchal, Wathen, 2011). In a quantitative analysis the interest is more likely to compare means or variances; whereas, a qualitative experiment with two outcomes is more likely to focus on success or failure. When comparing the means of two or more groups these populations can both or all be independent and the expectation is to determine the reason for a difference in the means this would deliver a result where the means are other than zero. The typical assumption is that there will be a normal distribution and that a random sample is collected for each of the populations. Another characteristic of comparing means of two or more groups is that when standard deviation is known or unknown and the population sample is large, then a z distribution (z test) is used and in the case where it is unknown and the sample size is small, then a t distribution (t test) is used. However, in the case where the experiment calls for a test of two or more dependent samples for one group or population, then a paired t test is used to draw results (Lind, Marchal, Wathen, 2011). What is your assessment of how Ben Bernake has handled the situation? The Fed implemented several strategies in an attempt to stabilize the economy by first targeting the struggling Financial Industry. The first move by Bernake was to reduce the target funds rate to 0 0.25% in an attempt to provide liquidity to the banks that needed it. Benake also increased government spending by building up their balance sheet with the assets that were currently frozen in the capital markets, such as mortgage backed securities. The Fed believed that by purchasing these assets from the banks it will remove the assets from the banks but also recreate a market for these type of financial instruments, which would ultimately help the housing industry as well. • 43. The Subculture Of Violence Theory The subculture of southern violence theory is just one of many cultural transmissions theories discussed in Miller s text. Cultural transmission theories determine that the values, beliefs, and norms of subcultures (deviant or no) contrast with the dominant culture. Therefore, it is possible for a subculture to justify criminal behavior as normal or necessary when it comes to one s reputation and self defense. Because the southern region of the United States is known to have high crimerates than other regions of the United States and as a whole, the subculture of violencetheory was hypothesized by Wolfgang and Ferracuti during the late 1960s. Other researchers: Ball Rokeach, 1973; Erlanger, 1974; and Hartnagel, 1980 theorized what factors may be the cause of the high crime rates in the southern region as well. This discussion will explore the implications of whether or not their findings adequately support the existence of the subculture of southern violence theory. Wolfgang and Ferracuti furthered the subculture of violence theory from the insights of cultural deviance theorists before them. Basing their theorizations entirely upon inferences from available statistics on homicide at that time, which illustrated a concentration of violent crimein primarily poor, racialized neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Through these statistics, the authors deduce that subcultural violence is a uniquely marginalized male phenomenon. Wolfgang and Ferracuti argue that violence is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
