The Criticism Of George Henry Hastings Sibley
Was the criticism of Gov./Col. Sibley justified? Describe what his explanations were and the
arguments of those who wanted him to hurry up. Draw a conclusion evaluating which arguments
were best.
Governor Henry Hastings Sibley is a memorable figure in Minnesota history, but one that is laced
with controversy and suspicion. These controversies extend from his early career in fur trading to
his leadership of Minnesota s militia in the Great Sioux Uprising of 1862. The criticism of
Governor Sibley was mainly because of his hesitation to engage with the Indians and his constant
complaints to territorial governor Alexander Ramsey about lack of men and supplies, but is simply
not justified when the full scope of his problems are understood. ... Show more content on

A lack of horses meant that Sibley could not reconnoiter the wilderness between St. Peter and Ft.
Ridgeley, which left his army much more vulnerable to surprise attack. Also, Sibley was placed
in charge of the refugees who had escaped to St. Peters and were now looking for shelter and
food. Sibley also feared the much larger Indian population that his army had to face. Sibley
intended to be a thorough and careful commander. His troops would move against the Indians
only when they were fully prepared (122). This slowed Sibley down because he refused to take a
steamboat to Shakopee until he had the supplies he felt necessary to take on the Indians. At Ft.
Ridgely, anger and fear festered after the first attack on the fort as to when reinforcements would
come. This also held true for the town of New Ulm which was scrambling to defend itself under
the leadership of Colonel Flandrau. While these towns were being attacked, Sibley had gathered
an army of 1,340 troops, but still complained about the lack of supplies and training his men had.
As the book aptly put it, however, ...neither were the defenders of New Ulm and Fort Ridgley, and
they fought with determination, improvised when necessary, and made do without what they could
not get and still they bested superior numbers of Indians (177 178). Sibley s delays in advancing
his troops and attacking the Indians caused heavy responses from the people of Minnesota. Many

Philadelphia Fire By Cujoe Essay
Two texts that experiment with traditional forms of narration are Philadelphia Fire by John Edgar
Wideman and Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov. The narrator in Pnin tells Pnin s experience as a Russian
American professor, but the narration seems untrustworthy since he provides information about
Pnin that he could have only known if he was with him at the time. The narratoralso occasionally
incorporates his personal experiences in the text. On the other hand, the narrator, Cujoe, in
Philadelphia Fire attempts to tell the story of the 1985 police bombing that took place in
Philadelphia that targeted the group called MOVE. The narration of the story is complex because it
is told through Cujoe s stream of consciousness. The intersexuality and the Meta... Show more

Since a lot of the story is his stream of consciousness the reader needs to understand the world
through Cudjoe s perspective. This narration differs from the stereotypical style and is harder to
follow because Cudjoe is constantly thinking of various events and digresses in his thoughts. For
example, Cudjoe will look out his bathroom window and he will begin to think about women he
had relationships with and then he will write about his friend Sam. The reader needs to be able to
follow along with his thought process. AT times it seems like Cudjoe is not remembering a
memory correctly, but it s all a part of his thought process. Another element that makes the story
distinctive is that this is a fictional novel writing about Cudjoe who is writing a novel. In Cudjoe s
writing process he includes interviews with the people in the town who were affected by the
bombing. Additionally, Cudjoe incorporates Shakespeare s play the Tempest while he s narrating.
The narrator makes multiple references to various works of literature that the reader might not
catch unless they are familiar with that work. While it seems the narrator isn t exclusively
discussing the bombing at all times, not writing about the story in a linear and conventional form
shows the complexity about writing about this historic

World War I As The War
End All Wars knew World War I as the War. This massive war involved thirty two countries but a
country that had a very important role was Russia. In the beginning two sides formed, the allies
and the central powers. Russia was the first to mobilize its army because it came to the aid of its
ally Serbia after the assassination of their Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a terrorist group from
Austria Hungary. In result of Russia mobilizing it s army, Germany, who was in support of Austria
Hungary, declared war on Russia. Due to the Franco Russian alliance drafted previously in 1892
France then mobilizes too. Soon after Germany declares war on France, Belgium and Great Britain
gets involved and they fought Germany on what was known as the Western Front. A day after the
Serbs defeat the Austro Hungarians at the Battle of the Cer the Russian army decides to attack
Germany, advancing to East Prussia. The battle of Russia and Germany was known as the Battle of
Stallupönen on August 17th, 1914, which was the first battle on the Eastern Front. In this first
battle of 84,000 Russians against 16,000 Germans, The Russians were defeated. After that the
Germans played their offense and attacked the Russians on August 20th, at The Battle of
Gumbinnen. Despite the offense attack the Germans lost that battle because of their eagerness to
defeat Russia in another effort to end the two front war. The Russian Army decided to split up with
Rennenkampf in control of the First Army and Samsonov in

Breast Feeding Vs. The Bottle
Breast feeding vs. The Bottle: The Decision is yours Some mothers have to give up
breastfeeding even though they want to breastfeed. To give up breastfeeding can be a sensitive
issue in a time when breastfeeding is promoted as the healthiest for mother and child (Larsen
Kronborg, 2013, p. 848). The debate over whether breast feeding is better than bottle feeding or
vice versa has been a debate for many years. With more and more research that is continuously
being developed, the option to breast feed or bottle feed is ultimately up to the parents of the
child. Although the decision could be based on factors such as a physical incapability or financial
burdens, the end result should always be what is going to be best for the baby. As research
continues to grow, there has been proven evidence of the positive and negative aspects that come
with breast feeding and bottle feeding.
The Benefits of Breast Feeding Starting from infancy, parents have the right to make the decisions
in their new child s life, which includes breast feeding their child. Infant nutrition is important in
development and health throughout life (Klag, McNamara, Geraghty, Keim, 2015, p. 1059)
Although the process has been known to bring some complications and many attempts, the end
result has been proven to be beneficial to not only the infant during that time but can be tracked in
their life down the line. The decision to breast feed is a decision that will not only impact the child,
but can also

Global Interdependence
As technology of the past gives way to the technology of the future, the world is becoming a
smaller and smaller place. In economic terms, Global Interdependence is increasing as time goes
on. In other words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the
three factors of production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. Freidman s book, The
World is Flat, there are several instances in which the Global Interdependence started. For example,
the introduction of the Internet created a common forum in which people could connect to each
other instantly was revolutionary in the interdependence process. In addition, the Global

This is described as the Most Favored Nation rule, or MFN for short. They cannot set a certain
tariff on one good from a nation then set a higher one on a different nation. This promotes non
discrimination between countries. In addition to MFN, the WTO also provides National Treatment.
This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign
products. National Treatment and MFN are simply put, cornerstones of all international trade. The
World Trade Organizationis an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced
trade between countries of greater affluence and countries of less prosperity.
Although there are many organizations that help further Globalization, Many smaller corporations
help too. For example, many auto Industries, although their headquarters is located on foreign soil,
will build factories on domestic ground. Take BMW as an illustration, a company based in
Munich, Germany, opened a new Factory in Spartanburg South Carolina. This cuts down on costs
of transportation and labor. In addition to BMW, other companies such as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru,
and Mercedes have constructed multiple factories in America. As a result, these companies can
price their cars less steeply than other companies that have to ship cars from foreign soil. Foreign
companies aren t the only ones building plants across America. American companies such as Ford

Thus, their sudden removal can contribute to increase the Earth temperature.
His suggestion is to perform a more general observation about climate change such as the Gaia
modelling, or use the whole Earth system approach that will include not only the physical property
of the Earth, but also the effects (positives and negatives) of all living organisms on the climate
system. Using this type of approach, he believed that it will contribute to answer the most important
question in climate changes: how much and how fast is the Earth heating?
Chapter 3: Consequences and Survival
The author made the interesting analogy concerning the reaction of our governments to the deadly
seriousness of climate changes comparing it to a patient being informed that he has cancer. First
there is denial, then the desperate search for a cure. But as he mentioned, we are not close to find a
solution.
In fact, he declared that the assumption that we could stabilize the Earth`s temperature by
reducing our emission of carbon dioxide by 60 % has no objective foundations in science. He
supported his statement on the notion that humans are responsible for nearly half of the emission
of carbon dioxide and, meeting this goal could not be achieved without a great loss of life? This
option is not realistic for him.
He informed us that based on IPCC reports (2007); many parts of the world will experience a lack
of water by 2030 and that Sahara

Master Harold and his Father in Athol Fugard s Master...
Master Harold and his Father in Athol Fugard s Master Harold
Master Harold is very similar to his father. Although Harold probably doesn t want to become like
his father, or think like him, he will grow up to be just like his father. When Harold gets involved
into arguments, only then does his fathers instincts kick in. Although Harolds father is never in the
play, we can learn a lot about him just by Harold and a single phone call. Harold inherited his fathers
need for power and control, his racism, hatred, and negative attitude.
Harold likes to be in control. In Harolds family situation, his fathers dominates his mother. For
instance when Harolds father made up his mind that he wanted to leave the hospital, ... Show more

Now between Harold and his father, his father dominates him easily. Because of this Harold may
want to feel like he?s somehow in control of something, and that?s why he treats Willie and Sam
the way he does. I think Harold loves Willie and Sam, like Harolds father loves his wife, but
because Harolds father is in control, Harold wants to feel somehow in control too.
Harold is prejudice against black people. Though he may not know it, or might not want to
admit it, Harold is racist. This is also another way Harold argues with Willie and Sam. He argues
that because Sam is black he doesn?t know as much as Harold or can?t learn anything to
complex. He also argues that he is far too civilized and well mannered to be hanging out with
black people who are nothing more than servants. Then again this just might be another excuse
for Harold to win an argument. For instance, Harold deliberately told Sam what he thought was a
funny racist joke just to hurt Sams feelings. Now this is a joke that Harold shared with his father,
and this is how they spend their time together, making prejudice jokes about black people. Harold
became racist because of his father. Their racist jokes are the only thing that brings them together.
They make jokes about people who are less then them so they can feel more dominate in society.
It?s the only thing Harold knows of to make his father happy. This also means that Harold and his
father don?t

Root Metaphors as an Aid to Understanding Organizational...
Robert Allen 11500024
Root metaphors as an aid to understanding organizational behaviour and their relevance to
organizations in a knowledge based economy.
Introduction
The use of root metaphors to provide insight into organizations seems to be seen as a useful if
limited way of understanding their complex natures (Morgan, 1997) (Andriesson, 2008), which
may have been more suited to the industrial age. The rise of the Knowledge Based Economy (KBE)
and post industrial organizations pose further challenges to the effectiveness of root metaphors
when attempting to understand organizations in what is now generally recognised as fast paced
(Bart, Victor, and Stephens 1994), sometimes chaotic environments where knowledge and
technology are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can draw conclusions about BPS when applying principles first identified some seventy years
earlier such as the owners or the stakeholders must decide on the definition of output.
The organism metaphor can be seen as a way of extending the reach of modernist theories to
explain and understand more complex organizations and is usually associated with theorists such
as (Maslow, 1943) hierarchy of human needs, (McGregor, 1957) Theory X and Theory Y
assumptions. However, the influence of earlier work of (Follett, 1926) participatory leadership and
(Mayo, 1933) Hawthorne experiments also contributed to its evolution.
This metaphors emphasis on transformation, cause and effect and survival of the fittest could be
seen as having greater relevance than the machine metaphor to post industrial organizations
operating in a KBE as it places emphasis on the importance of environment, technology and
appropriate structure (Burns amp; Stalker, 1961). (Lewin amp; Johnston, 2000) draw attention to
the pace of organizational change, competitive pressures and complex environments faced by such
organizations
This view of an organization can help us to draw useful inferences about its relationships with its
environment, (Lawrence amp; Lorsch, 1967), the role of management (Eisenhardt, 1989), as an
interdependent part of a system whose primary function is to exert authority and

times when an auction house or an art foundation decides to take a stand in particular issue,

The Qualities Of A Hero In The SpongebobMovie
A hero is someone few people can be. A hero is someone who is able to do a task no one else can
do and be able to help in situations of need. A hero is someone who puts others people s needs
ahead of his own to do what s good. Someone who has all the qualities of a hero is Spongebob. In
his film The Spongebob Movie Stephen Hillenburguses the character archetype the hero to show
that we as humans need someone to lead us because when we face life s biggest challenges we
need someone to help us out.
Spongebob makes many bold moves in the beginning of the movie. This shows us how
Spongebob is a character who does anything he can to do what he believes is good. Spongebob
says something in the beginning of the film that showed me he was a hero. Yes I might only be a
kid, but I will never stop trying to save mr. Krabs. This showed me his perseverance as people
might doubt him in the beginning of his journey but he will never give up if he thinks he is doing
something good.
Spongebob now faces many challenges during the middle of the film. He doesn t give up though
showing the audience how he will continue to attempt to save the whole city. Patrick says We
can t get to Shell City now. Our car has been stolen and there is no way we will get the crown
and come back in time. Spongebob then exclaims We can t stop now, if we go back Mr Krabs
will die and the whole city will continue to be run by Plankton. He is able to get the strength not
to give up even when it doesn t look like he will be able to save the city he still knows what he has
to do even though he has gone through so much challenges. He was attacked my motorcycle gangs,
guys with mustaches, giant worms, and a Cyclops but he didn t stop fighting.
Spongebob comes back to the city with the king s crown, but there still a problem as Plankton
has turned everyone into slaves. Spongebob then defeats Plankton and he says a powerful
speech showing the audience how he is a hero. I ve learned a lot in the last 6 days, and if there is
one thing that I have learned it is that you are who you are. I know I don t have any mermaid
magic, or manager promotion, or any other thing. None of those can make me more than who I

The Negative Aspects Of Social And Gender Inequality In...
Between 10,000 and 1,000 BCE, replacement and transition from hunter gathering, a nomadic
lifestyle to agriculture, a sedentary society took effect. Our antecedents made an pessimistic
decision on shifting to agriculture. Socially, change was seen through social and gender inequality
which led to problematic societies. Poor diets and the uprise of diseases contributed to the negative
aspects of agriculture.
Transition can be analyzed through specific events in history to manifest how agriculture was an
impoverished lifestyle due to social and gender inequality. The creation of social class was not the
best decision that helped rise and organize civilization like progressivists want us to believe.
Agriculture promoted social inequality by ranking citizens or residents of the area based on
their living conditions and their financial or economic situation.Through social classes, everyone
was treated and approached differently. In the early river valley civilizations between 1792 1750
BCE, a Babylonian King named Hammurabi created a code of laws called The Hammurabi
Code. This written code of law gave different punishments to every social class. For instance, if an
individual from a higher class has put out an individual from the lower class eye, the individual
from the higher class shall pay half its value ( law #199). Furthermore, as social classes started
developing gender inequality arose. During the fifth century BC, Ancient Athens created a new
form of government

Freedom Of Speech In Public Nuisance Law
Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.
Thomas Jefferson is stating that the press cannot be limited or there would be no freedom. The
Saturday press , is a prime example of newspaper with a loud voice about corruption. Furthermore,
Minnesota passed the Public Nuisance Law or known as the, press gag law . Freedom of speechis
constitutionally or right to say what we please as the people of America.
To begin with, Mr. Near the publisher of The Saturday press, has created a newspaper devoted to
the corruptions of society. This one of a kind newspaper had its focus on police and government
corruption. Judges called it a nuisance , and racist, anti labor, anti sematic, and finally, anti Catholic
. Minnesota courts ended The Saturday Press from publishing any future editions.

While not defined by ASC 740, practice has generally been to consider the most recent three
years when assessing cumulative losses. Positive evidence of sufficient quantity and quality
would be needed to overcome this significant negative evidence and conclude that a valuation
allowance is not warranted. As with all elements of available evidence, a cumulative loss is
simply one data point it is not a bright line test that is in and of itself determinative of the need
for a valuation allowance. To illustrate, assume that a company is in a three year cumulative
income position of $10 million, but the results of the past three years have flipped from income
to losses (2006: income of $100 million; 2007: loss of $30 million; 2008: loss of $60 million).
Does the fact that the company is still in a three year cumulative income position at the end of
2008 automatically suggest that a valuation allowance is not warranted? On the other hand,
assume a company had previously recorded a full valuation allowance and incurred a loss of $100
million in 2008, but earned $30 million in 2009 and $60 million in 2010. Does the fact that the

Essay On Thomas Paine Hero
Thomas Paine Hero or Zero
Thomas Paine was decidedly important to America from his very humble beginnings. In order to
understand what helped him become so important, how he grew up and what led him to the United
States must be examined. Paine was trying to explain to the Americans that without God nothing
was possible. Paine also explained to them that the way the British government was being run is
not the way to run America. By the end of Paine s life, it become abundantly clear that Paine was
no longer America s hero. Paine s many writings included The Crisis , Common Sense , and The
Age of Reason all of which were extremely influential to the American people. However, throughout
the duration of his writings, it was apparent that Thomas Paine went from being a person that

The Age of Reason was when Paine s great reputation as being a prime mover was ruined. It is
one of the ironies of the literary and theological world that The Age of Reason , which, although
written to express the author s doubts regarding traditional religion, was intended primarily to
save the world from atheism, brought against Paine the charge of atheism (The Age of Reason
1). Paine let his beliefs get him into a lot of trouble. Paine s Christian beliefs brought out his
bitter criticism of atheism. The Christian system of faith, he says, seems to be a species of
atheism, a kind of denial of God, for it believes in a man rather than in the true God and interposes
between man and his maker an opaque body, which calls a Redeemer (The Age of Reason 3).
When Americans who once worshipped Paine started reading his thoughts on religion, they began
to change how they felt about him. Upon his return to the United States in the 1800 s, he found that
his writing The Age of Reason left him essentially

The Day I almost Died
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beeeeeeep! my alarm clock was piercing my eardrums. I got up slowly, my
alarm clock still going off. It seemed as if the loudness was just getting louder and louder.
Finally, I stumbled out of bed, turning my alarm off. After I got dressed, I went downstairs to
pack my mother s amazing cookies for school. Her secret is adding the right measure of mixing
because mixing develops gluten in the sugar, making the cookies a chewy consistency, adding
the right measure of shape because round dough balls take longer to bake, resulting in softer,
thicker cookies, besides adding the correct amount of spacing because cookies baked at low
temperatures spread more during baking and need approximately 2 inches between them. It also
depends on the temperature, and the quantity of time you bake them for because a low
temperature and longer baking time yield crisper, thinner cookies; a higher heat and shorter
baking time makes softer, thicker cookies. My mom taught me these rules of cooking when I
was around five. What can I say, I guess I just have a way of cooking. When I got downstairs, I
checked to weather to make sure I could wear shorts today. I swear the heat outside has been
unbearable lately! 103 for three days straight has been ridiculous. As I entered the room my mom
greeted me. She pronounced, Good morning, Kelsey! when this occurred, I knew she wanted
something. She never says good morning unless she needs something. I answered almost

What Is Your Favorite Person Essay
Your favorite person: a borderline personality discovery
For the past weeks I have been busy. My minimalism goals is going well at my own pace (I ll will

Being raised in a loving family, yet keeping things all to myself by playing in my room by
myself, made myself think I like being alone more than anyone. It s no denyiable fact that I m
introverted, so I need some rest from social interactions, yet the way I need people is too interesting

I use the comparison as being a dog who is filled with joy when they see their master. Wagging
their tail, doing everything the master wants and being very happy when they pat your head. And I
literally want to be patted on my head when my favorite person compliments me.
It s not really a crush anymore, is it? It s about power and being submissive to everything they want
you to do.
But, I have to add, sometimes a favorite person can be someone you fell in love with and that s
when it may get dangerous and confusing.
You can have a favorite person who is a friend, a family member, teacher, collegue, about anyone
you may meet. Because it s so hard to figure out wether it s love or an obsession, it s something

The Paul Revere
From a lieutenant of artillery to a silversmith, Paul Revere is a man of many talents. He had a
bigger impact on American history then just exclaiming, The British are coming, though. Paul
Revere is important to American society because of his participation in politics, community affairs,
and wars and his craftsmanship. Paul Revere was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1,
1735. Revere was born to Apollos Rivoire, who later changed his name to Paul, and Deborah
Hichman. Deborah had grew up in Boston whereas Apollos moved to the city when he was 13.
Revere was one of twelve children and the third born. Paul Revere dropped out of school
relatively young to become an apprentice to his father who was a silversmith. In 1754, Revere s
father died and being too young to take ownership of the business, he enlisted in the army. It was
during the French and Indian War that Revere enlisted into the army. After just a short time,
Revere was appointed second lieutenant of artillery. This is where he first began a position of
great success that he will use later in his life. He spent the summer at Fort William Henry in New
York. During his stay at the fort, he thoroughly learned what his new position entailed. Not feeling
that the war was his calling, he dropped out and went home to take over family business. In August
of 1757, Revere married Sarah Orne and within just eight short months, they had their first child.

Gender Expectations In Ancient Mythology
In our current world, gender expectations apparent in our society be traced back to ancient
mythology. Women of today find inspiration in beauty and fashion often unknowingly form ancient
cultures. Similarly, popular masculine attributes are relatable to the myths of heroes and important
gods. Basing current social standards upon mythological texts however creates problems. In
striving to achieve such physical greatness people of this era are attempting to reach the
impossible: to become a god or goddess of immortal standards themselves. By relating ancient myths

There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.
Many people may know this song because of Tasha Cobbs. She is a gospel artist who uses her
gift of singing to bless and minister to others. I admire Tasha Cobbs because she glorifies Jesus
Christ in all that she does, makes uplifting music, and motivates me to believe that I do not have to
live a defeated life. I appreciate her for that.
Tasha Cobbs knows who God is to her and makes sure I know also. She glorifies Jesus Christ every

cancel her performance on the because of her father s death. Instead she went on the stage and
ministered. Cobbs won three Stellar Awards and a Grammy and in receiving those awards, she
testified about the joy of the Lord that she has is her strength during the passing of her father.
Cobbs made it known that she may weep every now and then, but she is content with her father s

Quilting
The Feminist Dynamic of Lucille Clifton
Quilting bees were occasions for women to gather bringing discarded scraps of material, which
they masterfully transformed, into works of art. The bee was also a social gathering where
women told tales, exchanged ideas, and encouraged one another. Lucille Clifton s collection of
poetry entitled Quilting continues the wonderful tradition by skillfully bringing together poems
that entertain, inform, and encourage. Two of Clifton s poems, eve s version and a woman who
loves, are excellent examples of the quilting process where material is re worked to reveal a
perspective that is female. The poem, eve s version defies the negative issues that have arisen from
the Christian tradition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminine sensuality and the feminist voice have been effectively subverted in this example of the
perfect woman.
Lucille Clifton redresses the Christian narrative in her poem, eve s version. She begins the
poem by asserting that women are responsible for maintaining control over their lives. Genesis,
according to Clifton, establishes that Lucifer is the creation of the female mind. Eve is given
the power to tell her own story and she states that, smooth talker / slides into my dreams / and
fills them with apple (74). Lucifer is not viewed as a powerful being but as the product of Eve s
dream. The dream is an illusion while Eve is the reality and the source of power in the text. Eve
accepts ownership of the dream; it is hers and Clifton makes it clear that Eve is in control of
Lucifer and the apple. She avoids the traditional trap of ignorance that society has perpetuated with
the male version of the creation myth.
The control of the apple is very significant. The apple has always been a symbol of the basis for
man s problems. The apple in Clifton s poem is a metaphor for feminine sensuality and alludes to
the feminist power dynamic. The truth about the apple is revealed by Eve, who states,
apple snug as my breast
in the palm of my hand apple sleek apple sweet and bright in my mouth. (74)
It is apparent that Eve has control of the apple; it

Sublime Elements in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura...
The novel Like Water for Chocolate, published in 1989, was written by Laura Esquivel who is
of Spanish heritage. She lives in Mexico, and Like Water for Chocolate was her first novel. I feel
that in the story Laura Esquivel gives a lot of magical elements that are treated as real in order to
evoke emotions about love, but it also employs many features of sublime literature.
In Like Water for Chocolate, a girl named Tita was born. When she was first born, it mentions that
she was literally washed into this world on a great tide of tears that spilled over the edge of the
table and flooded across the kitchen floor (6). This occurrence appears to be a magical element
rather than the sublime. A baby cannot be washed into the world.... Show more content on

By crying one tear into the wedding cake, Tita ruined the whole wedding cake and affected a
multitude of people.
Another magical characteristic in the story is that Gertrudis s body was giving off so much heat
that the wooden walls of the shower began to split and burst into flame (54). Terrified, she
thought that she would be burnt to death, and she ran out of the little enclosure just as she was,
completely naked (54). This happening is a magical element; however, it also could be linked to
the sublime literature as well because it is an example of Longinus notion of intensification
using sublime language. Also, the scent of roses given off by Gertrudis s body a long, long way
(54), all the way to town, where the rebel forces and the federal troops were engaged in a fierce
battle is a magical realist element as well as an example of the intensification accomplished by
sublime language (Longinus).
Further into the story, Tita removed the boy from her breast: a thin stream of milk sprayed out.
Tita could not understand it. It was not possible for an unmarried woman to have milk, short of a
supernatural act, unheard of in these times (76). This occurrence is both magical and sublime.
Something like this can not happen and, therefore, is magical, yet it also presents a lofty image of
lone, which is keeping with Longinus notion of the

William Blake s Poem The Schoolboy
Many writers construct natural imagery by deploying figurative language throughout their work.
Natural imagery is a prominent feature in the works of William Blake, particularly in his 1789
poem The Schoolboy published in the poetry collection Songs of Innocence . He explores the
theme of restriction and how freedom can be found in the natural setting, also demonstrating how
human identity can be influenced by these worlds. Blake s own perception of restriction due to
education, and love of imagination and creativity, becomes an undertone of his social commentary.
The impact of vivid imagery is further explored in D. H. Lawrence s 1922 novella The Fox . The
juxtaposition between natural and domestic worlds is examined through literary devices such as
metaphor and symbolism to comment upon the way in which naturecan impact identity and
relationships. In contrast, Lawrence further uses domestic imagery in comparison with description
of the natural world to highlight the internal conflict of characters such as March and Henry.
Throughout The Schoolboy there is a clear sense of conflict between the restriction of formal
learning and the freedom that nature can allow. It could be argued that this theme extends into the
form of the poem, with the use of quintain stanzas being unusual during the romantic period perhaps
Blake was consciously going against the traditional conventions of poetry. According to Marshall
Brown Blake assaulted all the canons of

The Mode Of Heroism In Bartleby The Scrivener By Herman...
Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville is tragic and is written in the mode of realism. The
short story starts off with the narrator, who is a lawyer at the Wall Street in New York, describing
the other workers or scriveners working at the lawyer s office at the time. The three characters are
Turkey, Nippers, and Gingernut. Turkey works well in the morning and Nippers during the night.
Gingernut is just an errand boy. Then the lawyer starts describing Bartlebyas A motionless young
man one morning stood upon my office threshold, the door being open, for it was summer. I can
see that figure now pallidly neat, pitiably respectable, incurably forlorn! Bartleby came to the
office to answer an ad spread out by the lawyer who needed more hands at the time and decides to
hire him. This start of the story ties Bartleby to be described as either as a traditional hero, an anti
hero, or a Byronic hero.
An argument that can be made about Bartleby is that he is a traditional hero. By saying a hero,
the audience will most likely think of a stereotypical hero who abides by the law and follows the
rules. Bartleby is seen as impotent and lazy man throughout the story, but he can also be labeled
as a traditional hero. Traditional hero is someone who knows the truth, where others do not, and
acts on it. If we look at the story at a literal point of the story, Bartleby is doing nothing in the story.
But in my opinion, he is doing something. As a working man on Wall Street, he is expected

Many people across the world watch films. It is so popular because it puts a story on the screen and

People watch films for the entertainment value, or are simply too lazy to read and enjoy the magic

The advantages of watching a film at the cinema rather than on video is the bigger screen, and the

People make films to tell a story or get a message across, such as Pearl Harbour, which tells us the

An example of this on Titanic is when they go from the back of the boat to the front.
They also use Sound Effect to make what is happening sound more real, such as an explosion or
band. They also use backing tracks, which can be used to emphasise the emotion a character is
feeling. For example, if it was sad, they might use a love song.
They use costume to show you what time something was set it, or the class of the people,
particularly shown in Titanic, as Jack is very poor and Rose is rich. The characters who wear the
costumes are also very important. They have to look the part and sound the part, not just be able to
read the lines. They have to act the way a person of that time would.

Compare And Contrast The Poem Design And Once By The Pacific
Robert Frost, one of America s leading twentieth century poets, is best known for his use of rural
life and nature in his poems. Following this standard are two of Frost s works, Design and Once
by the Pacific. In both of these poems, the image of nature and the use of enjambment in both
poems will be seen as well as the difference in between the poems rhythm and structure. Both the
poems Design and Once by the Pacific have some image of nature in them as a way to make the
reader reflect upon the matter being addressed. In Design , nature takes the form of a spider
feeding off a moth, a dimpled spider.../holding up a moth (lines 1 2). There is also a significant
amount of description on the white heal all. Even though nature s medium changes in Once by the
Pacific , the intention remains the same. Here, Frost utilizes water, waves, clouds, and the sky,
amongst several others of nature s features. This can be seen in the following verses, The shattered
water made a misty din./Great waves looked over others coming in (lines 1 2). In both poems, the
time of day is mentioned frequently. For example,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Once by the Pacific , the rhythm is in Iambic Pentameter. This provides the poem with a
consistent rhythm throughout. This characterizes the elements presented in the poem, such as the
waves, due to the appliance of a beat to their actions. On the other hand, Design does not have a
consistent rhythm throughout the poem as a way to characterize the spider s motions. This is
because even though the motions are continuous, they are not constant. The spider s motions can
be seen as a dependent variable which changes according to the moth s reactions. Therefore, there
are parts in the poem where some verses can be recognized as being part of an Iambic Pentameter
system, but overall, the poem is not designed to follow that rhythmic

How Does Norse Mythology Influence Viking Culture
1.1 Background
Vikings came from Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark and Norway.) The Viking age was between
793 AD to 1066 AD. They vikings were Norse seafarers who spoke the Old Norse language and
who raided and traded throughout Scandinavia and across wide areas of northern and central
Europe. The vikings lived a very different life compared to England during this time. The vikings
believed in norse mythology or commonly known as paganism. They worshipped many gods.
The old stories they told about gods, giants and monsters are known as Norse myths. Norse
mythologies origin came from Scandinavia but the viking religion technically did not have a

1. The dominant characteristics of the U.S. regional airline industry are they are mostly

are there for smaller communities to access a flight to the major hubs. Most of the regional
airlines service to major airports, so they are connected or part of a servicing contract with national

As major airlines go bankrupt, opportunities to take over the flights and collect on that revenue that
was going to the majors can be realized for Sky West. It can go global. External threats include
rising fuel costs, and limited domestic opportunities.
7. The company s future is promising. Revenues are increasing and its load factor is improving.
Operating expenses are decreasing and compared to other regional airlines, SkyWest offers better
benefits and compensation packages. It is performing efficiently; more so as each year passes.
8. SkyWest, Inc. must seek global markets to enter that allow joint ventures and potential for growth
to strengthen the company s competitive position. I would recommend the management stay on top
of technological advances in aircraft and purchase fuel efficient jets to lower fuel costs. Also, a
plan to consolidate ASA offices with the offices of SkyWest would cut down operating costs.

Analysis Of Mikhail Kalatozov s Film I Am Cuba
A Call of the Revolution
Watching Mikhail Kalatozov s film I am Cuba (1967) is a moving cinematic experience. In the
beginning, the film portrays a stereotypical Cuba through a carefree party on the rooftop and the
contrasting scenes of the prostitute s destitute village and the glamorous casino. The film depicts
how Cuba moves from a repressed country to an epicenter of revolution through four vignettes in
which each builds momentum to the next and an overall narrator that bridges the stories. The film
narrates a movement starting with how the oppressive capitalists exploit Cuba and push the people
over the edge. In the second half, the Cuban people move from passivity to actions, shown by a
university protest and a villager joining the militia in a revolution to overthrow the corrupt regime.
Among the vignettes, Enrique s leadership in the university student protest stands out the most.
Complemented by the shift in the camera s perspective of space in relation to characters, it is a
crucial turning point where the plot changes from the focus on a powerless individual to a vision
depicting the power of collective action.
Enrique s mission to assassinate the chief of police is a failed individual quest. The camera distorts
the viewers senses and moves with fundamental autonomy from the protagonist to convey the
futility of the individual against the formidable political establishment (Oukaderova, 70). He loses
his sense of direction when he acts independent of his

Berlin Factory In Today s Labor Market
Surprisingly, quite a few of the regulations in this berlin factory in 1844, would be acceptable
today. Many of these regulations still stand in workplaces today. Some of these, however would
not be acceptable to employers and employees in today s labor market. Of these, eleven of the
fourteen rules could be considered acceptable in today s labor market. Such as needing
permission to leave before the end of the workday, not being allowed to relieve yourself in places
not designated for doing so, not being allowed to smoke in certain areas during work hours, and
immediate dismissal of anyone who comes to work drunk. These are acceptable and reasonable
terms that should be easy for the employees to follow, and the employers to enforce.

Craft Project Research Paper
Many adults cringe at the thought of craft projects for kids. Their concerns may include a lack
of confidence in their creative abilities and skills, worries about what to choose for a craft
project or belief that crafts are complicated and expensive. All of this is far from true. Want to
know how to do an easy and stress free craft with kids? Just follow these steps. Take the time for
preparation, have a craft free for all and don t forget the clean up. Preparation Set Up Your Craft
Cupboard. Setting up your craft supplies ahead of time will make each arts and crafts project a
breeze. Purchase your supplies ahead of time. Dollar stores, lawn sales, your recycling bins, and

Forget the end product and focus on the process. Sit the kids at a table with craft materials from
your craft cupboard, recycling bin, junk drawers, etc. then step back and watch the magic. The
creativity and flexibility in the thinking of children when they sit in front of a pile of raw
materials will never ceases to amaze you. Make sure you join in the fun as well. Clean Up! I can
hear the kids moaning now but clean up is essential. Taking the time to put the craft supplies
back into their proper containers will make it easier to find them next time, leave more time for
the actual craft project and decrease stress for both the children and adults. Plan the time for
clean up into your craft project. If you have thirty minutes for your crafting time, quit with five
minutes left for clean up. Setting a timer will assure everyone knows when clean up begins.
Give each child specific task to make the clean up less overwhelming. Giving specific directions
will make the task less daunting to the child. Use instructions such as, Your job is to put all of the
paints into the paint container, or Your first job will be to collect all of the loose beads and put
them into the bag. Allowing the child to escape this part of the craft project will fail to teach them
to clean up after themselves and create resentment in those who have to do the

Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the
90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in
the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it
was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday)
or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school).
This reflected exactly how homosexualitywas portrayed in media at the time. Queercharacters and
homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and
affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly
watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so
exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages
media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media
and highlight the impact of media representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer
representation in all ages media, it is important to look back at queer representation in the past. The
late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation in
cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and the documentary based of
the book, Russo details the

Declaration Of The Rights Of Citizen Analysis
Chapter one, Source 1 (The French Revolution): The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the
Citizen
Various historians who s expertise lies in the French Revolution have closely linked more morern
takes and understandings of Human Rights to those put forward in The Declaration of the Rights of
Man and of the Citizen (1789). In fact, Lynn Hunt (1996) found that the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights (1948) closely followed the model that had been established in the French Revolution
. This paper will analyse The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789) in terms of
the intent of the document, the origins of the document, its authors and the intended audience,
political perspectives of the document and alternative political perspectives and how the document
is important to understanding politics in Australia.
In her (2007) study, Gail Bossenga found that the origins of the French Revolution was a very
fragmented argument due to the fact that no comprehensive study of the origins of the revolution
had been undertaken. Bossinga s (2007) study showed that a number of historians ... Show more

Mark W Janis (1992) found that The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789)
adhered to the principle that natural law should protect the rights of the individual against abuses of
the government . In addition, the declaration placed a high degree of emphasis on the people and
their rights as individuals (Kolm, 1993). Furthermore, this declaration emphasised on something
known as the general will ; the general will essentially being the will of the people (Kolm, 1993).
The Declaration outlines that that the different constituents of the general will consisted of [1:
cooperation, 2: justice, 3: communication and persuasion, 4: morality, and 5: culture, social

Literary Analysis Of The Hot Zone By Ebola
The Hot Zone is all about the events that surrounded the outbreak of Ebola that occurred in the
1980s. The story begins when some personnel affiliated with a laboratory facility that conducts
tests on monkeys mishandle the virus, in the process causing risk to the general population. In the
process of containing the disease, Preston indulges in past similar knowledges in the wake of
significant health risk. He (Preston) has adopted the tone of viral panic, vulnerability and regret to
express the unimaginable suffering of victims that were directly and indirectly affected by Ebola.
The book revolves around a couple of scientists and medical practitioners who reflect a vast
experience in hot agents. It was set in the 1980s and uses the point of view of the main character
called Preston to describe the death and exposure of an expatriate from France called Monet
Charles. In his tone he expressed the prevalent themes that came out of the storyline which is
tortures of the victims, death and the human fear attached to it. As a matter of fact, the appeal and
the power of the literature are derived from the fear and suspense that the readers evoke as they
read through. The gory and horrific demise of Charles Monet, Peter Cardinal, and Nurse Mayinga
exposes the audience to the edge with respect to the dread and anticipation of what will ensue in the
case that the virus spreads to the general population.
The tone of viral panic and regret are supported by the dominant feeling of

Significance of the Toleration Act Essays
Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice throughout the Middle
Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution. Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the
religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch
Republic and France had reached a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance
still present in England at this time. The passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 appears to have
been a close call, coming as it did during a particularly unstable period, making its conception all

John Prideaux, Archdeacon of Norwich at the time gives us a example of this grievance, writing
in 1691 ...more lay hold of it to separate from all manner of Worship to perfect irreligion than goe
to them; and although the Act allows no such liberty, the people will take it soe. As suggested in
the passage above, the Act was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse
rather than mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such
behaviour.... Provided always and it is the true intent and meaning of this Act, That all the laws
made and provided for the frequenting of Divine Service on the Lord s Day....shall still be in
Force, and executed against all persons that offend against the said Laws, except such persons
that come to some Congregation or Assembly of Religious Worship, allowed or permitted by this
Act. However, the Archdeacon s apprehension does not appear to be unfounded as in the years
following the Act there was indeed an upsurge in the publication of heterodox views and a growth
of popular irreligion [2]. The Toleration Act may not have wittingly given rise to a type of Atheism
but it seems that the freedom to choose lost the Anglican Church its power to demand faith, losing
it control over social and later

Truth In The Film Big Fish
As one should understand, mean has the capability to be found in what one perceives as factual
as well as fiction. This becomes apparent when viewing the film Big Fish, which accurately goes
on to portray the connections between fiction, non fiction, and truth through the recounting of a
man s life story. Upon watching the film, one delves into the life story of Edward Bloom in both
its glorious fiction with bizarre and outlandish occurrences and it s boring mundane truth. As the
plot progresses one will be able to understand this divide between what is true and what never
happened, allowing for a thorough understanding of both the film s protagonist Edward Bloom
and his son. Edward Bloom tells of his life as a work of fiction, while his son... Show more content

This is contradictory to the son of Edward Bloom who only wants to know the truth as he feels
that he deserves it from years of fictional stories. I prefer the fictional story over the truth as it
allows for me to delve into the creative mind of Edward while simultaneously enjoying its
bizarre and outlandish plot. Produced and directed by Tim Burton, the film Big Fish is
primarily a fictional recounting of the life of Edward Bloom. A majority of the plot takes place
in flashbacks, starting with Edward s story about how he caught the biggest fish in his town on
the day of his son s birth using only his wedding ring. It is soon revealed in an argument scene
that Edward s son Will Bloom is sick and tired of stories like this as they are a complete lie. Soon
following Will receives news that his father is deathly ill with cancer, so he immediately visits his
parents with his wife Josephine. Soon after their arrival Edward immediately goes on to telling his
life story to Will and Josephine although they have heard it countless times before. His story

Biography of Gustav Mahler
To Sibelius, Mahler expressed the belief that The symphony must be like the world. It must embrace
everything. Biography Gustav Mahler, a late Romantic Austrian composer, was born on July 7th,
1860 in what was then the Austro Hungarian Empire, now KaliЕЎtД› in the Czech Republic. The
region where Mahler spent his youth was strongly associated with the Czech independence
movement. Being a Jew, Mahler had developed an everlasting sense of exile, illustrated by his
famous quote I am thrice homeless, as a native of Bohemia in Austria, as an Austrian among
Germans, and as a Jew throughout the world. Everywhere an intruder never welcomed. Mahler
was considered by the public to be a great conductor with symphonies which were too long for
their liking, while Mahler viewed himself as a composer, forced to spend most of his years
conducting. His status as a conductor was unquestionably established, while his own pieces
started to gain momentum after periods of immense neglect, which included a ban on their
performance in a good deal of Europe throughout the Nazi era.As a composer, Mahler acted as a
bridge between the 19th century Austro German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th
century. Mahler is well known for his lengthy, deep, and painfully emotional works. He adored
nature and all life within it, but due to his early exposure to the darkness life brings, a suicide and
a brutal rape he witnessed, Mahler feared death. This duality is evident in just about all his

Argumentative Essay On Pro Sports
There is a reason football players, hockey players, and other pro athletes are required to wear
mouth guards and face masks: to help prevent dental injuries. According to DentalCare.com,
orofacial injuries in football used to be as high as 50 percent but, after faceguards and mouth
protectors were made mandatory in 1962, that percentage dropped to .5 percent. Unfortunately,
the requirement is for school and pro sports, not for kids getting together to play on the local
playground or ice rink. For Texas parents who do not make the same mandate for their kids, it is
likely they will end up with a dentist emergency in Frisco TX. The American Academy of Pediatric

  • 2. The Criticism Of George Henry Hastings Sibley Was the criticism of Gov./Col. Sibley justified? Describe what his explanations were and the arguments of those who wanted him to hurry up. Draw a conclusion evaluating which arguments were best. Governor Henry Hastings Sibley is a memorable figure in Minnesota history, but one that is laced with controversy and suspicion. These controversies extend from his early career in fur trading to his leadership of Minnesota s militia in the Great Sioux Uprising of 1862. The criticism of Governor Sibley was mainly because of his hesitation to engage with the Indians and his constant complaints to territorial governor Alexander Ramsey about lack of men and supplies, but is simply not justified when the full scope of his problems are understood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lack of horses meant that Sibley could not reconnoiter the wilderness between St. Peter and Ft. Ridgeley, which left his army much more vulnerable to surprise attack. Also, Sibley was placed in charge of the refugees who had escaped to St. Peters and were now looking for shelter and food. Sibley also feared the much larger Indian population that his army had to face. Sibley intended to be a thorough and careful commander. His troops would move against the Indians only when they were fully prepared (122). This slowed Sibley down because he refused to take a steamboat to Shakopee until he had the supplies he felt necessary to take on the Indians. At Ft. Ridgely, anger and fear festered after the first attack on the fort as to when reinforcements would come. This also held true for the town of New Ulm which was scrambling to defend itself under the leadership of Colonel Flandrau. While these towns were being attacked, Sibley had gathered an army of 1,340 troops, but still complained about the lack of supplies and training his men had. As the book aptly put it, however, ...neither were the defenders of New Ulm and Fort Ridgley, and they fought with determination, improvised when necessary, and made do without what they could not get and still they bested superior numbers of Indians (177 178). Sibley s delays in advancing his troops and attacking the Indians caused heavy responses from the people of Minnesota. Many called for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Philadelphia Fire By Cujoe Essay Two texts that experiment with traditional forms of narration are Philadelphia Fire by John Edgar Wideman and Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov. The narrator in Pnin tells Pnin s experience as a Russian American professor, but the narration seems untrustworthy since he provides information about Pnin that he could have only known if he was with him at the time. The narratoralso occasionally incorporates his personal experiences in the text. On the other hand, the narrator, Cujoe, in Philadelphia Fire attempts to tell the story of the 1985 police bombing that took place in Philadelphia that targeted the group called MOVE. The narration of the story is complex because it is told through Cujoe s stream of consciousness. The intersexuality and the Meta... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since a lot of the story is his stream of consciousness the reader needs to understand the world through Cudjoe s perspective. This narration differs from the stereotypical style and is harder to follow because Cudjoe is constantly thinking of various events and digresses in his thoughts. For example, Cudjoe will look out his bathroom window and he will begin to think about women he had relationships with and then he will write about his friend Sam. The reader needs to be able to follow along with his thought process. AT times it seems like Cudjoe is not remembering a memory correctly, but it s all a part of his thought process. Another element that makes the story distinctive is that this is a fictional novel writing about Cudjoe who is writing a novel. In Cudjoe s writing process he includes interviews with the people in the town who were affected by the bombing. Additionally, Cudjoe incorporates Shakespeare s play the Tempest while he s narrating. The narrator makes multiple references to various works of literature that the reader might not catch unless they are familiar with that work. While it seems the narrator isn t exclusively discussing the bombing at all times, not writing about the story in a linear and conventional form shows the complexity about writing about this historic ... In the beginning two sides formed, the allies and the central powers. Russia was the first to mobilize its army because it came to the aid of its ally Serbia after the assassination of their Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a terrorist group from Austria Hungary. In result of Russia mobilizing it s army, Germany, who was in support of Austria Hungary, declared war on Russia. Due to the Franco Russian alliance drafted previously in 1892 France then mobilizes too. Soon after Germany declares war on France, Belgium and Great Britain gets involved and they fought Germany on what was known as the Western Front. A day after the Serbs defeat the Austro Hungarians at the Battle of the Cer the Russian army decides to attack Germany, advancing to East Prussia. The battle of Russia and Germany was known as the Battle of StallupГ¶nen on August 17th, 1914, which was the first battle on the Eastern Front. In this first battle of 84,000 Russians against 16,000 Germans, The Russians were defeated. After that the Germans played their offense and attacked the Russians on August 20th, at The Battle of Gumbinnen. Despite the offense attack the Germans lost that battle because of their eagerness to defeat Russia in another effort to end the two front war. • 5. Breast Feeding Vs. The Bottle Breast feeding vs. The Bottle: The Decision is yours Some mothers have to give up breastfeeding even though they want to breastfeed. To give up breastfeeding can be a sensitive issue in a time when breastfeeding is promoted as the healthiest for mother and child (Larsen Kronborg, 2013, p. 848). The debate over whether breast feeding is better than bottle feeding or vice versa has been a debate for many years. With more and more research that is continuously being developed, the option to breast feed or bottle feed is ultimately up to the parents of the child. Although the decision could be based on factors such as a physical incapability or financial burdens, the end result should always be what is going to be best for the baby. As research continues to grow, there has been proven evidence of the positive and negative aspects that come with breast feeding and bottle feeding. The Benefits of Breast Feeding Starting from infancy, parents have the right to make the decisions in their new child s life, which includes breast feeding their child. Infant nutrition is important in development and health throughout life (Klag, McNamara, Geraghty, Keim, 2015, p. 1059) Although the process has been known to bring some complications and many attempts, the end result has been proven to be beneficial to not only the infant during that time but can be tracked in their life down the line. In economic terms, Global Interdependence is increasing as time goes on. In other words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the three factors of production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. Freidman s book, The World is Flat, there are several instances in which the Global Interdependence started. For example, the introduction of the Internet created a common forum in which people could connect to each other instantly was revolutionary in the interdependence process. This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign products. National Treatment and MFN are simply put, cornerstones of all international trade. The World Trade Organizationis an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced trade between countries of greater affluence and countries of less prosperity. Although there are many organizations that help further Globalization, Many smaller corporations help too. For example, many auto Industries, although their headquarters is located on foreign soil, will build factories on domestic ground. Take BMW as an illustration, a company based in Munich, Germany, opened a new Factory in Spartanburg South Carolina. This cuts down on costs of transportation and labor. In addition to BMW, other companies such as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and Mercedes have constructed multiple factories in America. His suggestion is to perform a more general observation about climate change such as the Gaia modelling, or use the whole Earth system approach that will include not only the physical property of the Earth, but also the effects (positives and negatives) of all living organisms on the climate system. Using this type of approach, he believed that it will contribute to answer the most important question in climate changes: how much and how fast is the Earth heating? Chapter 3: Consequences and Survival The author made the interesting analogy concerning the reaction of our governments to the deadly seriousness of climate changes comparing it to a patient being informed that he has cancer. First there is denial, then the desperate search for a cure. But as he mentioned, we are not close to find a solution. In fact, he declared that the assumption that we could stabilize the Earth`s temperature by reducing our emission of carbon dioxide by 60 % has no objective foundations in science. He supported his statement on the notion that humans are responsible for nearly half of the emission of carbon dioxide and, meeting this goal could not be achieved without a great loss of life? This

Although Harold probably doesn t want to become like his father, or think like him, he will grow up to be just like his father. When Harold gets involved into arguments, only then does his fathers instincts kick in. Although Harolds father is never in the play, we can learn a lot about him just by Harold and a single phone call. Now between Harold and his father, his father dominates him easily. Because of this Harold may want to feel like he?s somehow in control of something, and that?s why he treats Willie and Sam the way he does. I think Harold loves Willie and Sam, like Harolds father loves his wife, but because Harolds father is in control, Harold wants to feel somehow in control too. Harold is prejudice against black people. Though he may not know it, or might not want to admit it, Harold is racist. This is also another way Harold argues with Willie and Sam. He argues that because Sam is black he doesn?t know as much as Harold or can?t learn anything to complex. He also argues that he is far too civilized and well mannered to be hanging out with black people who are nothing more than servants. Then again this just might be another excuse for Harold to win an argument. For instance, Harold deliberately told Sam what he thought was a funny racist joke just to hurt Sams feelings. Now this is a joke that Harold shared with his father, and this is how they spend their time together, making prejudice jokes about black people. Harold became racist because of his father. Their racist jokes are the only thing that brings them together. They make jokes about people who are less then them so they can feel more dominate in society. • 10. Root Metaphors as an Aid to Understanding Organizational... Robert Allen 11500024 Root metaphors as an aid to understanding organizational behaviour and their relevance to organizations in a knowledge based economy. Introduction The use of root metaphors to provide insight into organizations seems to be seen as a useful if limited way of understanding their complex natures (Morgan, 1997) (Andriesson, 2008), which may have been more suited to the industrial age. The rise of the Knowledge Based Economy (KBE) and post industrial organizations pose further challenges to the effectiveness of root metaphors when attempting to understand organizations in what is now generally recognised as fast paced (Bart, Victor, and Stephens 1994), sometimes chaotic environments where knowledge and technology are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can draw conclusions about BPS when applying principles first identified some seventy years earlier such as the owners or the stakeholders must decide on the definition of output. The organism metaphor can be seen as a way of extending the reach of modernist theories to explain and understand more complex organizations and is usually associated with theorists such as (Maslow, 1943) hierarchy of human needs, (McGregor, 1957) Theory X and Theory Y assumptions. However, the influence of earlier work of (Follett, 1926) participatory leadership and (Mayo, 1933) Hawthorne experiments also contributed to its evolution. This metaphors emphasis on transformation, cause and effect and survival of the fittest could be seen as having greater relevance than the machine metaphor to post industrial organizations operating in a KBE as it places emphasis on the importance of environment, technology and appropriate structure (Burns amp; Stalker, 1961). A hero is someone who puts others people s needs ahead of his own to do what s good. Someone who has all the qualities of a hero is Spongebob. In his film The Spongebob Movie Stephen Hillenburguses the character archetype the hero to show that we as humans need someone to lead us because when we face life s biggest challenges we need someone to help us out. Spongebob makes many bold moves in the beginning of the movie. This shows us how Spongebob is a character who does anything he can to do what he believes is good. Spongebob says something in the beginning of the film that showed me he was a hero. Yes I might only be a kid, but I will never stop trying to save mr. Krabs. This showed me his perseverance as people might doubt him in the beginning of his journey but he will never give up if he thinks he is doing something good. Spongebob now faces many challenges during the middle of the film. He doesn t give up though showing the audience how he will continue to attempt to save the whole city. Patrick says We can t get to Shell City now. Our car has been stolen and there is no way we will get the crown and come back in time. Spongebob then exclaims We can t stop now, if we go back Mr Krabs will die and the whole city will continue to be run by Plankton. He is able to get the strength not to give up even when it doesn t look like he will be able to save the city he still knows what he has to do even though he has gone through so much challenges. He was attacked my motorcycle gangs, guys with mustaches, giant worms, and a Cyclops but he didn t stop fighting. • 14. The Negative Aspects Of Social And Gender Inequality In... Between 10,000 and 1,000 BCE, replacement and transition from hunter gathering, a nomadic lifestyle to agriculture, a sedentary society took effect. Our antecedents made an pessimistic decision on shifting to agriculture. Socially, change was seen through social and gender inequality which led to problematic societies. Poor diets and the uprise of diseases contributed to the negative aspects of agriculture. Transition can be analyzed through specific events in history to manifest how agriculture was an impoverished lifestyle due to social and gender inequality. The creation of social class was not the best decision that helped rise and organize civilization like progressivists want us to believe. Agriculture promoted social inequality by ranking citizens or residents of the area based on their living conditions and their financial or economic situation.Through social classes, everyone was treated and approached differently. In the early river valley civilizations between 1792 1750 BCE, a Babylonian King named Hammurabi created a code of laws called The Hammurabi Code. This written code of law gave different punishments to every social class. For instance, if an individual from a higher class has put out an individual from the lower class eye, the individual from the higher class shall pay half its value ( law #199). To illustrate, assume that a company is in a three year cumulative income position of $10 million, but the results of the past three years have flipped from income to losses (2006: income of $100 million; 2007: loss of $30 million; 2008: loss of $60 million). Does the fact that the company is still in a three year cumulative income position at the end of 2008 automatically suggest that a valuation allowance is not warranted? On the other hand, assume a company had previously recorded a full valuation allowance and incurred a loss of $100 million in 2008, but earned $30 million in 2009 and $60 million in 2010. Does the fact that the company is still in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to understand what helped him become so important, how he grew up and what led him to the United States must be examined. The Age of Reason was when Paine s great reputation as being a prime mover was ruined. It is one of the ironies of the literary and theological world that The Age of Reason , which, although written to express the author s doubts regarding traditional religion, was intended primarily to save the world from atheism, brought against Paine the charge of atheism (The Age of Reason 1). Paine let his beliefs get him into a lot of trouble. Paine s Christian beliefs brought out his bitter criticism of atheism. The Christian system of faith, he says, seems to be a species of atheism, a kind of denial of God, for it believes in a man rather than in the true God and interposes between man and his maker an opaque body, which calls a Redeemer (The Age of Reason 3). When Americans who once worshipped Paine started reading his thoughts on religion, they began to change how they felt about him. It seemed as if the loudness was just getting louder and louder. Finally, I stumbled out of bed, turning my alarm off. After I got dressed, I went downstairs to pack my mother s amazing cookies for school. Her secret is adding the right measure of mixing because mixing develops gluten in the sugar, making the cookies a chewy consistency, adding the right measure of shape because round dough balls take longer to bake, resulting in softer, thicker cookies, besides adding the correct amount of spacing because cookies baked at low temperatures spread more during baking and need approximately 2 inches between them. It also depends on the temperature, and the quantity of time you bake them for because a low temperature and longer baking time yield crisper, thinner cookies; a higher heat and shorter baking time makes softer, thicker cookies. My mom taught me these rules of cooking when I was around five. What can I say, I guess I just have a way of cooking. When I got downstairs, I checked to weather to make sure I could wear shorts today. I swear the heat outside has been unbearable lately! 103 for three days straight has been ridiculous. Feminine sensuality and the feminist voice have been effectively subverted in this example of the perfect woman. Lucille Clifton redresses the Christian narrative in her poem, eve s version. She begins the poem by asserting that women are responsible for maintaining control over their lives. Genesis, according to Clifton, establishes that Lucifer is the creation of the female mind. Eve is given the power to tell her own story and she states that, smooth talker / slides into my dreams / and fills them with apple (74). Lucifer is not viewed as a powerful being but as the product of Eve s dream. The dream is an illusion while Eve is the reality and the source of power in the text. Eve accepts ownership of the dream; it is hers and Clifton makes it clear that Eve is in control of Lucifer and the apple. She avoids the traditional trap of ignorance that society has perpetuated with the male version of the creation myth. The control of the apple is very significant. The apple has always been a symbol of the basis for man s problems. The apple in Clifton s poem is a metaphor for feminine sensuality and alludes to the feminist power dynamic. She lives in Mexico, and Like Water for Chocolate was her first novel. I feel that in the story Laura Esquivel gives a lot of magical elements that are treated as real in order to evoke emotions about love, but it also employs many features of sublime literature. In Like Water for Chocolate, a girl named Tita was born. When she was first born, it mentions that she was literally washed into this world on a great tide of tears that spilled over the edge of the table and flooded across the kitchen floor (6). By crying one tear into the wedding cake, Tita ruined the whole wedding cake and affected a multitude of people. Another magical characteristic in the story is that Gertrudis s body was giving off so much heat that the wooden walls of the shower began to split and burst into flame (54). Terrified, she thought that she would be burnt to death, and she ran out of the little enclosure just as she was, completely naked (54). This happening is a magical element; however, it also could be linked to the sublime literature as well because it is an example of Longinus notion of intensification using sublime language. Also, the scent of roses given off by Gertrudis s body a long, long way (54), all the way to town, where the rebel forces and the federal troops were engaged in a fierce battle is a magical realist element as well as an example of the intensification accomplished by sublime language (Longinus). Further into the story, Tita removed the boy from her breast: a thin stream of milk sprayed out. Tita could not understand it. It was not possible for an unmarried woman to have milk, short of a supernatural act, unheard of in these times (76). This occurrence is both magical and sublime. • 29. William Blake s Poem The Schoolboy Many writers construct natural imagery by deploying figurative language throughout their work. Natural imagery is a prominent feature in the works of William Blake, particularly in his 1789 poem The Schoolboy published in the poetry collection Songs of Innocence . He explores the theme of restriction and how freedom can be found in the natural setting, also demonstrating how human identity can be influenced by these worlds. Blake s own perception of restriction due to education, and love of imagination and creativity, becomes an undertone of his social commentary. The impact of vivid imagery is further explored in D. H. Lawrence s 1922 novella The Fox . The juxtaposition between natural and domestic worlds is examined through literary devices such as metaphor and symbolism to comment upon the way in which naturecan impact identity and relationships. In contrast, Lawrence further uses domestic imagery in comparison with description of the natural world to highlight the internal conflict of characters such as March and Henry. Throughout The Schoolboy there is a clear sense of conflict between the restriction of formal learning and the freedom that nature can allow. It could be argued that this theme extends into the form of the poem, with the use of quintain stanzas being unusual during the romantic period perhaps Blake was consciously going against the traditional conventions of poetry. • 30. The Mode Of Heroism In Bartleby The Scrivener By Herman... Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville is tragic and is written in the mode of realism. The short story starts off with the narrator, who is a lawyer at the Wall Street in New York, describing the other workers or scriveners working at the lawyer s office at the time. The three characters are Turkey, Nippers, and Gingernut. Turkey works well in the morning and Nippers during the night. Gingernut is just an errand boy. Then the lawyer starts describing Bartlebyas A motionless young man one morning stood upon my office threshold, the door being open, for it was summer. I can see that figure now pallidly neat, pitiably respectable, incurably forlorn! Bartleby came to the office to answer an ad spread out by the lawyer who needed more hands at the time and decides to hire him. This start of the story ties Bartleby to be described as either as a traditional hero, an anti hero, or a Byronic hero. An argument that can be made about Bartleby is that he is a traditional hero. By saying a hero, the audience will most likely think of a stereotypical hero who abides by the law and follows the rules. Bartleby is seen as impotent and lazy man throughout the story, but he can also be labeled as a traditional hero. Traditional hero is someone who knows the truth, where others do not, and acts on it. If we look at the story at a literal point of the story, Bartleby is doing nothing in the story. But in my opinion, he is doing something. As a working man on Wall Street, he is expected ... • 40. Analysis Of Mikhail Kalatozov s Film I Am Cuba A Call of the Revolution Watching Mikhail Kalatozov s film I am Cuba (1967) is a moving cinematic experience. In the beginning, the film portrays a stereotypical Cuba through a carefree party on the rooftop and the contrasting scenes of the prostitute s destitute village and the glamorous casino. The film depicts how Cuba moves from a repressed country to an epicenter of revolution through four vignettes in which each builds momentum to the next and an overall narrator that bridges the stories. The film narrates a movement starting with how the oppressive capitalists exploit Cuba and push the people over the edge. In the second half, the Cuban people move from passivity to actions, shown by a university protest and a villager joining the militia in a revolution to overthrow the corrupt regime. Among the vignettes, Enrique s leadership in the university student protest stands out the most. Complemented by the shift in the camera s perspective of space in relation to characters, it is a crucial turning point where the plot changes from the focus on a powerless individual to a vision depicting the power of collective action. Enrique s mission to assassinate the chief of police is a failed individual quest. The camera distorts the viewers senses and moves with fundamental autonomy from the protagonist to convey the futility of the individual against the formidable political establishment (Oukaderova, 70). He loses his sense of direction when he acts independent of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexualitywas portrayed in media at the time. Queercharacters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media and highlight the impact of media representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer representation in all ages media, it is important to look back at queer representation in the past. Biography Gustav Mahler, a late Romantic Austrian composer, was born on July 7th, 1860 in what was then the Austro Hungarian Empire, now KaliЕЎtД› in the Czech Republic. The region where Mahler spent his youth was strongly associated with the Czech independence movement. Being a Jew, Mahler had developed an everlasting sense of exile, illustrated by his famous quote I am thrice homeless, as a native of Bohemia in Austria, as an Austrian among Germans, and as a Jew throughout the world. Everywhere an intruder never welcomed. Mahler was considered by the public to be a great conductor with symphonies which were too long for their liking, while Mahler viewed himself as a composer, forced to spend most of his years conducting. His status as a conductor was unquestionably established, while his own pieces started to gain momentum after periods of immense neglect, which included a ban on their performance in a good deal of Europe throughout the Nazi era.As a composer, Mahler acted as a bridge between the 19th century Austro German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century.
