Whale Rider Themes
There is also a clear theme across New Zealand films relating to family related issues, including
acceptance from relatives and what some young people do to gain it. The 2002 film directed by
Niki Caro, Whale Rider, is centered around Paikea, a young girl who was rejected by her
grandfather as the leader of their community due to her gender. She seeks his approval, though he is
reluctant to help her due to the culture s traditions. Such approval seeking is prevalent amongst
New Zealandfilm, notably in the 2010 film by Taika Waititi, Boy. The main character, named Boy,
is reunited with his father, Alamein, whom he idolises and tells stories about to kids at his school.
His image of his father is overinflated and most of the things he claims

Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote
Truman Capote s writing techniques are an essential component to the overall effect that his
message gives to the readers. The use of rhetorical as well as literary devices work hand in hand
to show the reader just exactly what Capote was trying to convey through his words. At first
glance, it may be difficult to decipher the message, however once one digs deeper the message
becomes much clearer. Capotewants the audienceto understand the importance of living life to the
fullest because it can change drastically in the matter of minutes. Although he explains very little
that directly relates to his true purpose, his subtle use of stylistic devices work in cohesion to
express his ideas, thus the importance of living life to the fullest at all times is greatly
emphasized. His message is explored through the use of extensive foreshadowing throughout the
section preceding the murders. Capote writes, There s him. Her. The kid and the girl. And maybe
the other two. But it s Saturday. They might have guests. Let s count on eight, or even twelve.
The only sure thing is every one of them has got to go (Capote 37). The obvious foreshadowing
expressed in this piece is just the first part to the rest of the sections that force us to realize how
vital it is to appreciate life and live it to the fullest. It exemplifies how life can change at any given
moment and the suspense offered in this quote further embodies that idea. Along with
foreshadowing, Capote extends his message with

The Good The Bad And Your Business
In The Good, the Bad, and Your Business, Jeffery Seglin explains that managers in today s business
world must not only deal with situations pertaining to the workplace, but also make more
complicated decisions regarding their employees personal lives.
Seglin explains that the best managers treat those below them on the corporate ladder not as
subordinates, but as equals. He cites a Gallop Organization study which revealed that employees
who feel cared about, that their opinion matters, and that their companies are family friendly will
not only be happier, but will perform better. This being said, a manager merely saying he values his
employees is not sufficient; rather, the employees must sense that there is substance to the manager
s claims. Similarly, Seglin references Kenneth Goodpaster, who believes that companies have a
moral obligation to avoid harming their employees directly, help employees in need, and respect the
rights of their employees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CEO is tasked with weighing his personal obligation to be there for his employee versus any
damage the employee has done to the company. Giving the employee another chance as long as he
seeks treatment follows the team oriented culture of the organization by supporting an employee in
a tough time. In other words, the CEO decided to practice what he preaches regarding caring for his
employees. Unfortunately, the consultant relapses and costs the company once again. This time,
the company has a plan. They have policies in place, and put him on short term disability and in a
live in rehabilitation center. The CEO decides to invest company time and money to rehabilitate
him, rather than terminating him. While this is done with the best intentions, it is a dangerous path.
It requires managerial discretion because if it fails, it is costly both monetarily (for the company)
and emotionally (for the manager and

Introduction: Solids are composed of atoms, ions or molecules arranged in a pattern that is
represented in three dimensions, they all have a definite shape and volume, they are virtually

High Five Book Analysis Blanchard and Bowles
High Five! The Magic of Working Together Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles High Five! The
Magic of Working Together by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles offers four keys to developing
a highly effective team. The authors use a parable story telling technique about a youth recreation
hockey league, the Warriors, to demonstrate how implementing the four concepts can turn around a
team to success. They parallel the process to show how the same techniques can be used in the
business world. The title High Five is used to express the practice of high fiving , the slapping of
hands in the air by teammates, to demonstrate the togetherness of a group of people coming
together with passion and excitement. The high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four members of my group are all intelligent but every week, as a group, we produce better
work than if I had done it on my own. We laughingly say we have flow and have even written
flow on the wipe board as we begin tough assignments. We have each learned each other s skill set
and we depend on each other to contribute and make the end product better. There is no individual
star in our Medaille study group. Instead we shine brightly as a single, better entity. We choose our
name based on the definition of gestalt. According to the Webster s dictionary online, gestalt is
defined as: a structure, arrangement, or pattern of physical, biological, or psychological phenomena
so integrated as to constitute a functional unit with properties not derivable by summation of its
parts (www.merriam webster.com). I think what the authors are saying has been proven in how we
developed our learning team. We learned that we were better together than we were individually.
Our commitment to the team grew stronger because we recognized our output was better if done
collectively. 4. Keeping the accent on the positive by repeated reward and recognition. The last part
of the team performance equation is that individuals and teams need positive recognition.

Cursive Writing In Public Schools
Should cursive writing be taught to students in public schools? Personally, I believe cursive
writing is a bit outdated in a sense. But I do not see it as a roadblock to any stepping stones if
students were taught cursive writing. There are several facts and statements that add to the support
of my opinion.
Cursive writing is seen as outdated in sorts due to the quickly developing technological world. In
2012, a survey was conveyed amongst handwriting teachers and come to find out only 37% of
the teachers used cursive writing. Computer skills and typing are crucial in todays world.
Cursive was once used as a form of identification, people s signatures were valued. Where in
todays world, signatures are not always used. We now have digital passwords, as well as
thumbprints to verify identity. I would argue that cursive writing is proven to help stimulate both
the left and right sides of the human brain, while as typing and print do not. It is believed that
handwriting goes hand in hand with brain injuries. Tests showed that some people who had suffered
brain injuries that affected their writing, typing, or print, could still write in cursive. This directly
proves that cursive, type, and print use different sections of the brain. Though cursive writing
excercises both parts of the brain, is it worth sacrificing needed time in todays fast acting
technological world? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

easier for a student to retain information when writing it down individually rather than typing

1950s Red Scare Essay
Cole Amadio US II Mr. Metz 12/2/15 1950s Red Scare In the 1950s there was a red scare that
threatened the United States with communism and Nuclear espionage. The scare was
questioned if it was conspiracy or not, but it was justified because of the spies and Soviet Union
threatening the United states security. Through decryptions, trials and investigations these
threats were justified because of the Venona project, the project was a secret organization that
gathered and decrypted messages from soviet military agency in 1940s, and the HUAC. From
the late 1930s to late 1950s the HUAC took initial steps to find communists and spies in the
United States. The House Un Americans Activities Committee was a big part of the panic of the

The Machiavelli And Machiavelli s The Prince
I have always found great interest in the infamous Niccolo Machiavelli and his ways of thinking;
my eye was drawn to him long before I knew I would be studying at Colorado State and even
before I had any interest in politics. It was from young man know as Tupac Shakur, and let me
tell you it is great to finally understand who Machiavelli is and the things he has done for the
outlook on politics after hearing about how much respect and praise he got from the iconic rapper
of the 1990s. In this paper I will be analyzing and contrasting Thomas More s Utopia and
Machiavelli s The Princeand their ideas on subjects that include good governance and social
orders, key reforms, and who should be held responsible for providing good governance and an
orderly society.
First let us discuss the ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli in is piece The Prince . Machiavelli has a
very independent controversial way of thinking and portraying his ideal form of governance in
this text. The ideal and most effective from of governance for him is not in that of a republic but
instead he insists in an autocratic regime. He argues that republics and other forms of
government are too weak because of the corruptness of human nature. This book is written as a
guide on how a prince should run his state or nation based on how and when he would come into
this power. One of his main concerns in which he has been criticized for is his disregard to follow
moral values so as to properly run the state, as well as

The ecological reasons that explain this result is that the FID won t have a consequence in the
richness of the resources. There are some significant decisions that the prey must make such

Moreover, there are some factors that influence these decisions such as great quantities of

Analyzing Old Spice Essay
Analyzing Old Spice Advertisements these days use many different techniques in order to sell a
product. The Old Spice Company uses several methods to convey a message and sell their product.
Old Spice commercials are well known for using the famous Isaiah Mustafa, wrapped in just a
towel, to talk about the company s product. While Mustafa walks and talks, the background and
setting of the commercial changes and the actor never loses eye contact. The product is always
shown throughout the entire commercial. By combining all the elements of genderstereotyping,
sexual imagery, and racial innuendoes, Old Spiceis able to convey a message to sell their hygienic
products. When it comes to attracting the right audience, Old Spice knows what... Show more

The sexual appeal in the Old Spice commercials is very evident. Throughout the entire ad, the
central character does not have any clothing on except for a towel. Also, the undying eye contact,
never ending perfect posture and the same central location of the bathroom also has an equal
sexual appeal. Isaiah Mustafa is very buff, tall, and has the ultimate sexy voice. His eyes, stance,
lack of clothing and voice draw you in like a moth to a light. The overall appeal to the character is
unquestionable, you cannot help but stare. If you cannot help but pay attention to a commercial,
then you will also pay attention to the product being addressed (citation 2). In this way, the
company is able to grab your attention and keep it long enough to get their product out there.
The racial innuendo in the Old Spice commercial is probably the least evident technique used to
draw potential customers in. There is no denying that the main character is African American.
Without the use of this particular actor and his race, the commercial just would not be the same.
Usually in any voice over or previously recorded advertisement, there is a black man speaking.
They know how to enunciate the right words and have the voice to go along with it (citation 1).
This might be a racial stereotype but it works for this particular commercial really well. His voice
draws you in, captivates you and makes you want to listen. Plus, with his dark skin, his eyes pop
out even

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Character Analysis
A Man s Journey As many brave men and women stand up and fight for our country, not to benefit

The poem describes him as self deprecating, brave, and also loyal, all traits which required for the
role he is playing as a Knight of the Round Table. Firstly he exhibits self deprecating by Knowing
he is not the exact perfect fit for this dare, he still lays his life on the line for his king.taking on
the Green Knight s outlandish challenge and then facing the Green Knight himself. Secondly,
Sir Gawain is Brave. He is the only one who stood up to accept the challenge besides his king.
For example when he stood up after King Arthur accepts the challenge at first he says, I beseech,
before all here, that this malee may be mine (Borroff l #115 116). Additionally, when Sir Gawain
is in the midst of convincing Arthur to let him take upon the challenge. Since he does not want
his king, who is his uncle, to risk his valuable life, Gawain states My body, but for your blood, is
a barren of worth (Borroff l #133). At the most Sir Gawain is significantly loyal because he is
risking his own life before King Arthur s. Putting his life before his king s really displays his true
loyalty. Undeniably, during the first part of this poem, Sir Gawain shows that he is a distinguished

The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a commitment
to one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages. Sometimes society even
questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle
is addressed in Jane Campions film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of
autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series,
the film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director

Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book The Story of
Film he mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in the film. Campion and her
cinematographer, Stuart Dryburgh, used wide angle lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film
(Cousins, 708). Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her
from the scenes of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained
(Gillet). She is looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be
viewed as her containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive outlook is
asserted in the scenes where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting in the window while it is
wrapped around her. She smiles, alone in her freedom to be who she without restrictions from outer
infringements. Finally, the closing scene, the author is home and content to be within that window.
Sue Gillet concurs; She speaks the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1).

Body Mass Lab
Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History
variables, are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related
because they demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction
(years), Maximum Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an
increasing Body Mass (kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age
at First Reproduction, and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various
apes. It is suggested that the EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are
higher than other apes. In this project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First... Show

I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as
indicated in the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass
(kg), the data demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the
body mass of the species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First
Reproduction (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first
reproduction of species increases as the body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot
of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average
Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body Mass increases. However, there is an
outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of humans, in which their body mass
yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan, and observed brain size,
suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by observing the measures
of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us in reconstructing
their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when compared to
the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and the
expected brain size, it allows

Soft Drink and Coca Cola
Coca Cola s New Vending Machine (A) Case Questions
1. Is selling Coke through interactive vending machines a good or bad idea? Explain your
answer. It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three
years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in
supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of
soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales
still take place in supermarkets. Last year, about 11.9 percent of soft drink sales worldwide were

Therefore, it will only add value to the product for them when it is cold. Overall, brand switchers
will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch
to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can
adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this
technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause
competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This
means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price
discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and
know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price
accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency.
Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have
to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in
hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the
difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm
Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do

Faith Integration Paper
BU 490
Lead By Example Faith Integration Paper My father and uncles instilled a statement in my head
from a young age that I will never forget. This statement is closely related to the Law of Legacy
and very relevant to being a leader in the modern business world. The statement only consists of
a few words, but these words are very powerful and if this statement is followed, your reputation
as a leader will be respected and hopefully emulated. The statement is, Lead by example, do what
is right, be the best you can be, and treat others the way you would like to be treated. I believe
this statement is related to the law of legacy because it is action oriented. John Maxwell states in
his description of the law of legacy that leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these phases incorporated Jesus as leading by example and with each new phase, a higher
level of commitment is necessary. The goal of this demonstration is that through your example,
they will learn and use your tools to translate into being successful leaders themselves.
A biblical example of the law of legacy comes from Moses in the book of Numbers. The scripture
comes from Numbers 27:18 23. In this scripture, Moses strategically taught Joshua through
apprenticeship training and passed along his legacy, which no one questioned upon the passing
of the torch. Joshua eventually became known as a leader who would complete the task of
leading the people into the Promised Land. This, according to Maxwell s description of the Law
of Legacy is the ultimate goal, and exactly what Moses achieved. The subsequent examples are not
only relevant to Moses teaching Joshua in the biblical times, but also for a modern leader
preparing his sheep for taking over the business.
Moses empowered Joshua and gave him authority. To be a successful leader in the modern
business world, you have to decide when it is the appropriate time for your successor to receive a
bite of the pie. If you wait to long and they are thrown straight into the fire, success may not be
achieved and your legacy and or reputation may be damaged. If you share the load with your
successor, they can better understand the qualities and actions needed to be successful.

Outline and Evaluate Issues Surrounding the Classification and Diagnosis of Depression
Scheff s Labelling Theory is a process which involves labelling people with mental disorders
when they produce behaviour that does not fit with socially constructed norms and labelling those
who reflect stereotyped or stigmatized behaviour of the mentally ill . A disadvantage of labelling
an individual with depression is that labelling can accentuate and prolong the issue. In addition by
labelling someone with depression who in fact is not depressed may in fact become depressed as a
result. Another problem is that labelling an individual with depression means that they can have

There are also issues relating to reliability which may affect the diagnosis. One type is Test retest
reliability, which occurs when a practitioner makes the same consistent diagnosis on separate
occasions from the same information. In terms of depression this can be applied if the same
Doctor or Psychiatrist gives a patient a diagnosis of depression on two separate occasions. The
other is Inter rater reliability occurs when several practitioners make identical, independent
diagnoses of the same patient. This can be applied to depression by confirming that the diagnosis of
depression is accurate in a given situation.
Issues of validity also arise in the diagnosis of depression. For example, Predictive validity occurs if

Positive Effects Of Diversification And Globalization In...
The Effects of Diversification and Globalization in the Bahamas Diversification and globalization
are important to the wellbeing and financial stability of any country. These traits are valuable to
both individual and group strengths. Understanding these modules can affect the way people or
corporations manage their business affairs. To understand the importance of both diversification
and globalization we must first understand their individual importance. Let s first look at
diversification.
Diversification Most individuals growing up in the country of The Bahamas have already in some
part become infused with diversity from their elders. Don t put your eggs in one basket , this is an
old saying that we have all grown up with and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Governments have the power and authority to open markets to foreign investors; when this
happens a free trade agreement is reached. However an individual or corporation can decide at
any time to improve upon their own mechanics on a national or global level. With tourism and
finance serving as the two major industries within the Bahamas for multiple years we have not
had to trade or forsake much to propel these products to a higher level. Moreover a vast difference
between globalization and its cousin free trade is; globalization is technology driven and it is not
affected directly by government decisions. Herein lies the want versus need parody. Because a
person wants to compete on a more grand stage they then make the necessary improvements so
that they can grandstand on a mainstream platform. Whereas the need is forced upon them more
for the good of the people versus one entity s gain. Now that we have a bit more food for thought
let us take a more in depth look at some of the key factors and ways that diversity and globalization
affects the Bahamas.
Diversification of industries
Tourism has been the staple of Bahamian income for a vast number of years. Every day we see
more and more companies emerging within these Bahama lands. Probably the best known
hospitality employer in the Bahamas is the Kerzner International Company. What makes this
company a successful giant is their diversification strategies. Kerzner International makes billions

My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay
1.My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious
hatred of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews
possess by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the
wide spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your
definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your
definition goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is
not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We
talked some during the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we
discussed the six parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitismcould come about
by combining our two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could
be: antisemitism is defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jewsor Judaismfrom its
mildest expressions to exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying,
the destruction of religious objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. This new
definition considers actions despite weather or not the hater is aware of them. For example, a
person could have always been told that Jews are greedy. This guy goes around telling jokes about
Jews being greedy. He is engaging in

A Genetic Engineering Outline
oTH Morgan concluded that chromosome play an important part in heredity and the passing on
genetic traits o Griffith injected mice with different types of bacteria and when he injected them
with S cells, the mice died. When the mice were injected with the R cells, they continued to live.
The mice would survive if they were injected with heat killed S Cells but died when given a
dosage of heat killed S Cells and normal R Cells. The reaction of the two cells was the possible
and most likely death of the mouse. o Avery, Macleod, and McCarthy took the findings of Griffith
and wanted to reason why the combination of the two cells killed the mouse. The took the different
parts which would cause the DNA, Protein, and RNA and eventually eliminated them one by one.
After all of that, only bacteria that was exposed to the S strain DNA were transformed. This gave
the idea that DNA is what was controlling living things and was the outcome of this experiment o
Hershey and Chase Radioactively tagged and then tracked infected bacteria in order to prove that
DNA was in fact the molecule of heredity and transferring of genetic material o Chargaff proved
two very important rules about DNA,

The Amount of Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine in each species DNA is different. o

Symbolism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the underlying theme displayed throughout the entirety
of the story is conforming and defying to society s gender expectations. This is shown through the
literary device, symbolism. Symbolism is seen through Flora the horse and the protagonist s mother.
Firstly, Munro displays society s weak and stereotypical view of women through the protagonist
s mother. The mother acts exactly as society expects girls to, staying inside the house, cooking
and cleaning. For example, the mother did not often come out of the house unless it was to do
something hang out the wash or dig potatoes in the garden. (43) indicating that her sole purpose
was to be inside the home. However, although women are expected to be weak and silenced, the
protagonist opposes herself to society s expectations. While most girls are expected to help their
mother in the kitchen and stay inside, the protagonist prefers to help my father when he cut the
long grass, and the lamb s quarter and flowering money musk, that grew between the pens. He cut
with the scythe and I raked into piles. (43) Due to the protagonist preferring to work outside with
her father it makes her mother feel as though, It s not like I (she) had a girl in the family at all. (44)
which is evidence that the protagonist defies gender conventions by participating in male oriented
tasks. Munro expresses the protagonist s unconventionality through the use of symbolism in Flora
the horse. Flora is viewed as, given to fits of violent alarm, veering at cars and even at other
horses, but we loved her speed and high stepping, her general air of gallantry and abandon. (44)
Whereas, the other horse Mack, is described at slow and easy to handle (44) The inclusion of the
comparison amongst Mack and Flora is to show the reader that Flora s wild and brave personality is
not common and is seen as unconventional which represents the protagonist and her separation
from the norm.
Furthermore, the protagonist continues to be unconventional by going against society s
expectations for women, once she truly realizes what it means to be a girl. This is shown through
Flora fighting to avoid getting shot. Once Flora realizes her fate of being

Why Children Choose to Murder
The reason for choosing this topic was because I have always been fascinated as to why children
do these crimes, were there warning signs before? I don t understand why children choose to
murder; I also would like to learn what was studied and why young children do such crimes. I
would like to also learn the background of these children, what they were exposed to, what
characters they all have in common.
Adams, K. A. The Child Who Murders: A Review of Theory and Research. Criminal Justice and
Behavior 1 (1974): 51 61.
Child murders come from a different social economic background. It s hard to define what a child
murder is. They often range from different personality some are aggressive, withdrawn, some
can be cruel. Many children who murder usually kill a family member or friends. They are don t
have any are not gang related, or have any affiliation. They murder because they have built up
tension, frustrated and it could take just one incident to trigger the aggregation to kill. In the
paper it say that killing to a child means (1) it s the most complete type of personal revenge the
child has heard of; or (2) an undesired individual disappears forever. Reinhardt (1970) found most
child murders show no guilt. The youths could not give an answer to why they kill . The article
also says that children turn to murder to get away from their present situation; they find that they
have no return. It is important to find out why young children murder what causes the aggression

home from a party that they did not want any part of to begin with. Philip begins to scream at
the most random of times, and Louis jumps into the air and begins to let out a screech full of
fear. Louis pats Philip on the shoulder and screams Dude what the heck is wrong with you!
Philip begins to point at a dead raccoon and ask Louis to see if it s alive. Louis swallows his
pride and says alright man I m a straight gangster so Ill check it out. Louis slowly walks up to it
and kicks the dead raccoon and continues to walk home. Philip is still freaking out even after

mood of the walk home. An hour has passed the two young men and Louis slowly said man I
thought that raccoon was going to jump up and claw my face into shredded cheese. They both
begin to laugh their hearts out and the walk home became an enjoyable walk for both of them. This

and continues to develop throughout generations. It refers to pertinent things such as the ever
growing networks of everyday physical objects, and other internetenabled systems and devices
which process and analyze large and fast moving data set along each other. To sum it up, the
internet of thingsis a fast growing network of materials where everything is synced and can collect
as well as exchange data using sensors that are embedded in devices. Although individuals believe
that the Internet of Things (IoT) consequently, will strip every one of privacy and security, the
internet of things ought to be utilized in society as it positively transforms the way you live and
relate to our environment to make it more productive and useful for us.
The concept of the internet of things abbreviated as IoT was introduced as early as the late 90 s by
Kevin Ashton, the Executive Director of Auto ID Labsand a professor at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. Now, the Internet of things is already a disruptive technology capable of determining
fundamental changes that are happening in everyday life, and it is considered the fourth industrial
revolution. (Hucanu) The Internet of Things (IoT)

A Discussion Of Constitutional Law And Its Relationship...
A Discussion of Constitutional Law and Its Relationship with Education Education is not explicitly
mentioned in the United States Constitution, but instead, education is one of the powers reserved to
the states. Power not specifically given to the federal government is reserved for the states through
the Tenth Amendment of the Unites States Constitution. Therefore, states have plenary, or absolute,
power in the area of education. While states may hold this reserved power, with regard to education
the federal government has found power through mandates that must be met in order for states to

Constitution). While not specifically mentioning education, this amendment guarantees that any
child in Texas has the right to free education given to any other child regardless of nationality. The
First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution has been examined extensively with regards to
education. Most notably the clause in the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of
speech , has been scrutinized through the judicial system. While students and educators do not shed
their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate (Tinker v.
Des Moines), in the educational setting an individual s rights cannot interfere with the schools
educational mission. The U.S. Constitution separates powers between the executive, legislative and
judicial branches. Federalism guarantees that power is shared between national and state
governments. The judicial branch often acts as a referee between the federal and state governments
when deciding on issues that seem to cross jurisdictions. Texas Constitution While the U.S.
Constitutions assigns power of education to states, Texas Constitution assumes that power and
prescribes the structure and operation of Texas public schools. Article VII in the Texas Constitution
establishes public schools, asylums and universities. The Texas Constitution guarantees free public

Ethics And Intellectual Property Of Intellectual Properties
Ethics and Intellectual Property When discussing a creation or idea, the creator of such concept
must be rewarded. This must be the case for any situation. For most cases this is true, but because
the ownership of such properties bring financial benefits, and or settlements, regulations will
continue to challenge what is right or wrong when dealing with intellectual property. This is
accurate for many industries, field, and markets. The owner ship of intellectual properties can take
a creation or ideaworldwide, the profits from such invention can be endless. This concept is what
will push a persons or organizational ethical principles to its limits. With that in mind, such
characters will do whatever it takes to gain rights to intellectual property. Another very important
opinion for this subject is how long must the duration of intellectual properties last? The longer the
patentee holds on to the idea, the more they will benefit. This is where such believes creates issues
for its particular market. Many individuals and organizations find that such believes are unethical.
Many believe that creations or inventions must be shared with everyone. Such groups want ideas
and creation to be enjoyed by everyone, a public domain (Lau Johnson, 2014). There are many
parties that stand firm behind this idea, especially when dealing with items or inventions that can
benefit or help the people. An example of such inventions or ideas are the creations of new
medicines or medications.

Gender Stereotypes On Children
Gender stereotypes affect children substantially. From the baby boy in blue with trucks and
action figures to the baby girl in pink with dolls and princesses, these roles and generalizations
affect children s personalities while they are still developing. Those guiltiest of stereotyping in
children s media are Disney, Nintendo and other video game companies, and reality television.
These influences are expansive, and they reach past elementary age kids to teenagers. Stereotypes
negatively impact children of all ages through these forms of media, and parents need to be aware
of this. Disney, and the princess brand in particular, enforces genderstereotypes on young girls.

This is certainly true isolated, there is nothing wrong with these things. When these things

Liechty also says that characters such as Snow White and Cinderella are admirable for
remaining nice, despite bad people trying to hurt them. Again, she has a point: princesses do
teach girls to treat others with respect, but their respect would take them further if it was
reciprocated. Liechty s final arguments involve men: what is wrong with not being happy
without a man, and why is it bad that boys are taught to be gallant and courteous? The answers to
both are simple. Firstly, there is a difference between loving a person enough that their loss
would ruin one s life, and losing one s value because there is no longer male attention to validate
it. Secondly, the example princes set for boys are good ones, but with gender roles declaring
princess movies to be a girly thing, most boys may not be exposed to these positive role

This situation might affect attitude of entire staff (Chaharbaghi and Willis, 1998). As a result,
critical learning is indispensable in this stage to create the atmosphere of understanding the problem
of organization and transfer knowledge in order to enhance the ability of making decision in rapid
change situation. Besides, this learning process leads to the lower degree of change resistance but
higher level of participation which are vital component to achieve strategic change goal (Kenny,
2006). Afterward when employees understand more about the situation, it is time to inform the
direction and plan of strategic change. In this step, eventhough the implementation becomes more
constant, organization must maintain flexibility for unexpected situation. Finally, when
organization is covered with understanding and predictable situation, the normal operation of
implementation was brought in to perform (Kenny, 2006). Consequently, it can be concluded from
above implementation step, which applies the radical approach when there is a lot of risk and
uncertainty and the incremental approach when there is lower scale of risk and uncertainty, is the
process of transformational strategic change based on learning for transformational organization

18th Century Music
During the 18th century, music was used as a social enhancement on the rising middle class who
showed interest in intellectual ideals of Enlightenment. The rising middle class were people who
would come between the working class and the upper class. Such as craftsman, bankers, and
merchants. These select few decided that since they can now afford some of life s pleasures, that
they would spend it on music that aristocrats and nobility would listen to. While on the other hand,
during the 19th century, music began to develop a more story base theme with a moral lesson. Such
as Ballets and Grand Operas. So basically, during the 18th 19th century, music has evolved from just
sound or noise to a elegant and graceful story played through musical notation with different
musical instruments while advancing the growth of the middle class.
To begin with , the 18th century was the Classical era. In which music had order, symmetry, and
formal restraint. Composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig
van Beethoven began creating music that pulled away from music that was mainly created for
churches. This secular music they created became entertainment for the aristocrats and the nobility.
A composer by the name of Johann Stamitz organized one of preliminary forms of the classical
orchestra. This orchestra consisted of the string section, the woodwind section, the brass section,
and the percussion section. The largest of the orchestra was called a symphony.

1.As stated in the book International Business, there are three major operating objectives that
encourage businesses to engage in international business. These three objectives include expanding

these aspects, and possibly others when deciding whether or not he should move more of his

the next option would be to expand. By expanding the parks into five international parks, Disney s

Descriptive Essay On Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
Everyone dreams about buying his or her dream house; I lost my dream house, twice. When my
girlfriend Izzy and I began house searching, it was a whirlwind of excitement. This was our first
hunt in the real estate market, and we were ready to close in on the perfect first house. Suddenly
we were staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses
on Zillow. Throw pillows, dishes and pictures began to jump off the shelves at us in every store we
entered. We anxiously imagined every aspect of what we wanted in our house. The rush of chasing
down the ideal house and making it our home was thrilling, yet short lived.
We were set on a modern ranch style dwelling, farmhouse style for her, and a large garage for me.
One day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every
bullet point on our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home
had a large southern style front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets.
The open and light build was perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage
complete with a custom peg wall for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the
house was the back yard, large and completely fenced in. The storage and build was perfect for
me. We knew this was our house; it had to be.
As we were standing in the center of the bare living room, our real estate agent s phone began to

Evil and Good
In Horrendous Evils and the Goodness of God , Marilyn McCord Adams uses another kind of
defense for theism. In this reading Adams argues that the problem of evil has been directed at
theism in general, which in this case has caused readers on either side of the debate to miss how
important and how unique Christianityis to the problem of horrendous evils on this view. She argues
that Christianity has a variety of unique tools that can meet the problem of evilmore effectively
when not abstracted into simply classical theism.

philosophy would do well to take notice. The little child kidnapped and murdered; the innocent

Rather than jettisoning these types of answers, then, I think we would be best suited adding Adams
defense to the many faceted response to the problem of evil from Christian philosophers of religion.
My first objection is that she looks at the problem of evil as residing fundamentally in the
finitude of creatures. She says that the main hurdle to atonement lies not in what we as people
do but what and who we are. In the face of the holy, to use Otto s key term, `we have no more
rightful place in God s household than worms and maggots do in ours nothing we could
naturally be or do would make us suitable for divine company. There s just a `size gap between us
and God We are also `metaphysical stragglers , who in various ways break down normal
categories, and therefore in Douglas s terms are prime candidates to be unclean. Like fish without
scales or anteaters that climb trees, we by our very natures challenge the orderliness of the

unclean lips who dwells among a people of unclean lips. Certainly some strands of Christian
theology, particularly in the East, have taken this view, but I think they represent a minority. The
majority opinion has been that human nature (finite and however odd though it may be) is one
thing, and sin is quite another. Like the rest of

Theme Of Your Logic Humbles Me Mandela
In the poem Your Logic Frightens Me, Mandela the author uses motif to prove that he admires
Mandela s bravery to become a leader after what he went through. The first motif is logic. Logic is
repeated in almost every line in this poem. Mandela, your logic humbles me..
(Soyinka 29) in this line logic is used to show that the author appreciates Mandela s policies as a
leader. The second motif is threatens. Your bounty threatens me Mandela,..
(Soyinka 39) this line is saying that the author admires Mandela s forgiveness of the past
violence that has happened, but is scared of the people who will take advantage of his
forgiveness. The last motif is dreams. Of dreams, of time accelerated in visionary hopes, of
savoring the task anew (Soyinka 27) in this line the author is saying that Mandela s dream could
change the future into a peaceful, hopeful, and loving place. This all shows that the author believes
in Mandela, but is still frightened. To demonstrate that Mandela s dreams and leadership could turn
into disaster the Mandela Frightens Soyinka White magic, ivory topped black magic wand, one
moment wand, one moment riot club (Soyinka 28) this quote from Your Logic Frightens Me,
Mandela tells that Africans are equal to white people, but because the only difference is the color of
their skin, one moment everything could be fine but then somebody says something offensive and
creates a riot. Your Logic Frightens Me,

African American Women In Higher Education Literature Review
The gross under representation of African American women in senior leadership positions in higher
education is very apparent today. Although there has been a small increase of African American
women administrators in higher education, the literature suggests that both race and gender are
alarming forces in the lives of African Americanwomen. This review of the literature will focus on
African American women in higher education, career development, power issues affecting career
development, and historical and current barriers. By examining the issues surrounding racial and
gendered stereotypes, an understanding of the variables that persist in organizations that restrict the
upward mobility of African American women in leadership can be

Hultgren Construction Collapse Case Study
Summary: On December 2nd around 10:30 a.m., a building in downtown Sioux Falls, South
Dakota collapsed. Fear stuck the hearts of many as they heard the deafening collapse of a
downtown building on 10th Street and Phillips Avenue. Many first responders and police quickly
moved to try and find survivors. Hundreds of people waited for survivors to be pulled out from the
debris. Cheers erupted when three hours after the collapse, firefighters found Emily Fodness alive
underneath the rubble. Sadly, Ethan McMahon, a construction worker, was found dead underneath
the rubble almost five and a half hours after Emily was rescued. Hultgren Construction is under
investigation for causing the collapse.

They were only allowed to move things out of the bar area where they were doing the
construction. The permit they received did not allow for any structural work to be done, yet they
posted a picture on Facebook of themselves working on a load bearing wall. They were blatantly
disobeying the law by working on the wall. Others with a construction background and had seen a
picture of the construction on the wall say that Hultgren Construction did not have i beams and
other equipment that are necessary when working with a load bearing wall. It appears that they did
not know how to do their job properly. It is sad that the Hultgren Construction company went
against the law and others had to pay for the company s mistake. Hultgren Construction has had not
previous safety violations. It is unfortunate that their first violation caused a fatality.
There was many things that happened as a result of this building collapse and many things will
happen in the future as a result of it. This catastrophic event caused the area surrounding the
collapsed building to close down as there were fears that the surrounding buildings damaged from
the rubble might also collapse. This event lead to Ethan McMahon s death. His death may spur
South Dakota legislatures to create stricter construction laws and have more restrictions on permits.
The collapse might prompt people to tear down the neighboring buildings due to the fears that they

The Theory Of Dynamic Capability
Helfat s (1997) article is written to examine the theory of dynamic capability. Helfat cites Teece
and Pisano s (1994: 541) definition as the subset of the competences/capabilities which allow the
firm to create new products and processes and respond to changing market circumstances (Helfat,
1997 : 339). Helfat examines how complimentary assets in a firm can influence their dynamic
capabilities. Specifically, how a firm is able to use current assets, such as economies of scope, to
respond to a dynamic market. Helfat examines the oil industry, which is often filled with high
levels of complimentary assets such as R D and economies of scope, in order to gain a better
understanding of how the theory of dynamic capability actualizes itself. Helfat uses data from the
energy industry because its availability, the nature of the industry itself (highly diversified firms),
and the unique opportunity to examine historical data of the dynamic environment (specifically the
years which the OPEC oil embargo created oil shortages, and prices sky rocketed). Theoretical
Argument Helfat s theoretical argument is that companies engaged in a dynamic environment, who
are diversified in complimentary assets, will hold a strategic advantage over competitors because of
the economies of scope presented to them by their asset structure. I believe that Helfat s argument
can be seen to intertwine with other theoretical constructs such as process strategy, which examines
how firms strategic

The Exciting Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
According to Alison M. Lewis who wrote Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters, he married a
woman named Louisa Hawkins in 1885. Twelve years later he fell in love with another lady
named Jean Elizabeth Leckie, but out of respect for his wife he kept their relationship friendly and
nothing more. Bittersweetly for Doyle, Loiusa died of tuberculosis in 1906. The next year he was
wed to Jean and they stayed together until her death in 1940 (Lewis 114). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
also had five children in his lifetime. According to June Sawyers, the writer of Arthur Conan
Doyle: A Life In Letters, his first wife birthed two of his children and Jean Elizabeth Leckie had
the other three. Mary Louise was his first child, born in 1889, then Kingsley was born three years
later. His second wife had their first child in 1909, named Denis Percy Stewart, who married a
Georgian Princess later in his life. The other children were named Adrian Malcolm and Jean Lena
Annette (Sawyers 14). Through all the stresses of family and work, Doyle wanted to eliminate
Sherlock Holmesfrom his busy schedule. According to Theodore Dalrymple who wrote The
Eternal Detective, Doyle had his own medical practice set up in London, but no patients ever
came. He would write while waiting for customers. He eventually became tired of writing and
wanted to kill off Sherlock Holmes because the character was distracting him from more important
issues. In 1893 he wrote The Final Problem where Holmes plummeted

Based on these standards, the 3 current world powers are Russia, China, and the United States; the

Throughout time, world powers have made their moves, and many others have followed. On

Causes And Treatment Of Chronic Illness
Throughout the past century the world has seen a drastic shift in not only life expectancy but in
quality of life. Medicine has become incredibly advanced and thus life expectancy rates have
increased over the years. However, it must also be recognized that there are now higher rates of
chronic illness. Chronic illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis and heart disease are the
leading causes of disability throughout the United States. As of 2012, about half of all adults 117
million people had one or more chronic health conditions (CDC 2016). People with a chronic illness
essentially have a disease or disorder that requires a lifetime of coping. It is not uncommon for
people to often become so ill that they are unable to work.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In a study conducted by Brown, Sheffield, Leary and Robinson (2003) the researchers tested the
association between social support and levels of pain. The study tested 101 undergraduate
students. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of three groups. The groups were
required to press a cold presser that delivered a small pain and after, rate their pain on a 10 point
scale. Each group was either paired with a friend, a stranger or carried out the task alone. The
study concluded that the individuals who used the cold presser while another person was in the
room, stranger or friend, reported lower levels of pain. Evidently there is a connection between
social support and pain tolerance. This information is extremely important because chronic illness is
essentially a diagnosis of lifelong pain. If social support can improve this pain, these patients
could improve their quality of life.In a study conducted by Lopez Martinez, Esteve Zarazaga and
Ramirez Maestre (2008) the effects of social support on pain were further studied. In their study,
the purpose was to test the relation between perceived social support and the coping responses to
pain in those suffering from chronic pain or illness. The study consisted of 117 subjects recruited
from a Clinical Pain Unit at a hospital in Spain. The average subject was around 54 years old and
mostly consisted of women. In order to measure the pain within patients, the

Clostridium Tetani Research Paper
CLOSTRIDIUM TETANI
Clostridium tetani is a motile, bacterium with a drumstick racket appearance. This bacillus is
pleomorphic, gram positive, short or long, single or pair occurring spores. They are anaerobic and
very resistant to heat and ordinary chemical agents like antiseptics.
Carle discovered tetanus disease in 1884, and Descombey developed tetanus toxoid in 1924.
Spores of C. tetani are found in soil, dust, and feces and in animal intestines. In agricultural areas
human may harbor them in their intestine. However, it s most usually found in dense populated
regions, especially hot, damp climates with soil rich in organic matter. It causes a disease called
Tetanus. The word tetanus tetanos or taut means to stretch . Tetanus is characterized by rigidity and
convulsive spasms of skeletal muscle. (CDC Center for Disease control) ... Show more content on

Infection can occur when open skin or wounds come into contact with foreign bodies carrying
C.tetani spores such as soil. The typical example is stepping on a rusty metal contaminated with
soil, dust, or feces. Because C. tetani is an indigenous intestinal flora of humans and animals,
spores under anaerobic conditions in the wound, will germinate to vegetative C. tetani cells which
produce the exotoxin in vivo (in the living body of a plant or animal). Person to person does not
occur, but it s infectious as acquired through environmental exposure. (Burton s Microbiology for

Technology Assisted Reproduction Essay
Technology Assisted Reproduction
Introduction
Reproduction is fundamental for the perpetuation of a species and therefore is a trait all species
possess. Human reproduction is usually not viewed in this context. Extinction of humans is not
considered a threat, but the ability to reproduce is an issue of meeting social expectations.
Psychologist Dr. Helen Fisher states that society tends to pressure women into feeling that
motherhood is their sole connection to being female (Rutter, 1996). Likewise, men are influenced
by society into feeling that they need to perform their part by planting the seed (Rutter, 1996).
Fisher s insight may only represent parts of the reason humans feel the need to reproduce. However,
it is evident that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both sexes seem to be more than adequately equipped by biology for parenthood. However,
infertility affects 12% of American couples or approximately 4.5 million couples a year (Fertility,
1998).
Infertility is technically defined as the inability to conceive after having regular intercourse for
one year without using any form of birth control. Surprisingly, the odds against conception are
strong most of the time. A woman has just a 20 35% chance of conceiving during each menstrual
cycle, even at the peak of fertility (Infertility, 1996). These odds decline slightly in the women s
late 20 s and early 30 s and more sharply after the age 35. Male fertility also decreases with age,
although more slowly than female fertility.
Fertility is impaired in as many men as women. The problem lies within the man a third of the
time, another third of the time within the women, and the remaining third is usually a combination
of the two (Youngkin, 1997). Health professionals emphasize the need for infertile couples to
recognize the problem as our problem instead of mine or your problem. It is less emotionally
damaging this way. For these reasons, both partners should be evaluated when a decision is made to
make an attempt at conceiving.
Common Causes of Infertility
There are many known causes of infertility. In men, low sperm count and poor sperm motility are
usually the culprits. An undescended testicle or dilated veins in the scrotum both contribute to

Essay On Regulating American Banks
Regulating American Banks An article appearing in the Finance and Economics section of The
Economist print edition with the headline Turn of the wheel discusses the Treasury proposing
measures of cutting red tape. The article notes after President Trump assumed office, he vowed to
restructure the elephantine law which had recast financial regulation following the 2007 08 crisis.
Thus, he asked Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary to measure all the rules of America against

The rationale behind this is that high risk weights associated with commercial property loans and
mortgage serving assets have led to quitting business by small banks ( Regulating America s banks ,
2017). Based on the issue discussed in this article whereby households are making fewer
borrowings due to much regulations imposed by the Dodd Frank act `s Consumer Financial
Protection Bureau making borrowing stringent due to many requirements and higher lending rates
that make the households to shun from taking mortgage loans, it is imperative to make changes to
the national budget so as to stimulate lending. Accordingly, the national budget should cut taxation
on a financial institution, especially on the mortgage. This will, in turn, compel the financial
institutions to also lower their lending rates to their customers. This will stimulate more borrowing
from the households who will, in turn, invest their borrowed amount in viable projects that will
stimulate the economic growth. Nonetheless, this lending ought to be monitored so that the money
borrowed is invested in worthy projects that can produce significant returns and also to avoid the
effect of inflation. Besides, the national budget should cut down on taxes charged on construction
materials. This will enable the investors to invest in real estate by either using their savings or by
borrowing from financial institutions. The aggregate effect will be economic growth and increased

Jane Eyre And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
The novels Jane Eyre, by Charlotte BrontГ«, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James
Joyce, both exemplify the bildungsroman style, showing the growth of the characters over the
course of each book. As bildungsroman novels, both texts share elements common to the genre,
such as focusing primarily on character thoughts and reactions. They also share traits like periods
of character development being tied to a particular place. However, they differ in other areas like
narration style, conflict, and dialogue. The literary techniques that BrontГ« and Joyce use cause
them to approach the development of self as shown in the characters coming of age, in different
ways, while still being in essence the same type of book, reflecting... Show more content on

Helen s devotion to her beliefs has a significant influence on Jane s development as she retains
strong ties to her principles throughout the book, as shown when she refuses to live with Rochester
as his wife after the revelation of Bertha Mason s continued existence. In Portrait, Christianity is
tied to Stephen Dedalus growth as well, but not in the same manner, as he does not increasingly
embrace religion as he matures. He instead maintains an off and on relationship with the church, as
he is at times wholly devoted to maintaining himself in the manner dictated by the Catholic
leadership and at others is as far as can be from what they give as standards of goodness and purity.
His conflict with establishment versus individuality culminates in Stephen rejecting the church s
teachings in favor of viewing the world through his own eyes, leaving the strictly scripted trappings
of traditional religion behind him, a major event in his development from childhood into adulthood.
Jane Eyre and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manalso use distinct ways to show the growth of
identity in their characters. One of these is the narrator: in Jane Eyre, the story is told in first
person through Jane s own eyes. By writing in the first person, BrontГ« creates an effect by which
Jane s point of view is the only one that is available in its entirety

Human Nature And Human Nature In The Destructors
Human nature in the Destructors
The setting of the story happened in Blitzkrieg, London after World War II ended. The characters
that the story consists of are mainly teenage boys who had created a gang known as Wormsley
Common Gang. Their group continuously meets everyday beside the house of Mr. Thomas or Old
Misery. When they had to decided to make decisions for the gangit was made through voting. T or
(Trevor), the main character in the story, suggested that the gang should demolish Mr. Thomas
house on the upcoming holiday. Mr. Thomas was an old man, who lived in a house that solely
stand on an area that was bombed during the war. The group agreed and proceeded with their plan
under the leadership of T and which the story ended with the destruction of the house.
The story reflects action and adventure, since the gang would do things that can be considered as
daring, especially for their age. The story also has a mix of suspense, especially on the last part
wherein Mr. Thomas had gone back home earlier than expected. Nevertheless, the short storyis not
merely a fiction made to entertain its readers rather, it reflects the factual realities viewed during the
period it pertains such as delinquency, war and human nature. This essay would analyze the story in
connection to the delinquency and war which reveals human nature. Human nature would be

The purpose of this report is to distinguish the type of cost centre of sales branches and to also
compare the old and new budgeting systems at Thoja.
Thoja Company is a decentralised company in which its organisational structure is functionally
based. The company s sales branches are recognised as discretionary cost centres. The company s
president, Harry Hansen has decided to implement a new budgeting system for the sales branches in
order to prevent budget slacks. The reason for implementing the new budgeting system is to attempt
to lower selling expenses and sales volume together.
The new budgeted system at Thoja comprises of fixed and variable costs in order to associate selling
expenses and sales volumes together. With the implementation of the new budgeting system, the
company overcame the partiality and biasing forecasts, however the new system also had some
potential disadvantages as tight budgets may encourage managers to cut costs and as a result, this

  • 2. Whale Rider Themes There is also a clear theme across New Zealand films relating to family related issues, including acceptance from relatives and what some young people do to gain it. The 2002 film directed by Niki Caro, Whale Rider, is centered around Paikea, a young girl who was rejected by her grandfather as the leader of their community due to her gender. She seeks his approval, though he is reluctant to help her due to the culture s traditions. Such approval seeking is prevalent amongst New Zealandfilm, notably in the 2010 film by Taika Waititi, Boy. The main character, named Boy, is reunited with his father, Alamein, whom he idolises and tells stories about to kids at his school. • 3. Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote Truman Capote s writing techniques are an essential component to the overall effect that his message gives to the readers. The use of rhetorical as well as literary devices work hand in hand to show the reader just exactly what Capote was trying to convey through his words. At first glance, it may be difficult to decipher the message, however once one digs deeper the message becomes much clearer. Capotewants the audienceto understand the importance of living life to the fullest because it can change drastically in the matter of minutes. Although he explains very little that directly relates to his true purpose, his subtle use of stylistic devices work in cohesion to express his ideas, thus the importance of living life to the fullest at all times is greatly emphasized. His message is explored through the use of extensive foreshadowing throughout the section preceding the murders. Capote writes, There s him. Her. The kid and the girl. And maybe the other two. But it s Saturday. They might have guests. Let s count on eight, or even twelve. The only sure thing is every one of them has got to go (Capote 37). The obvious foreshadowing expressed in this piece is just the first part to the rest of the sections that force us to realize how vital it is to appreciate life and live it to the fullest. It exemplifies how life can change at any given moment and the suspense offered in this quote further embodies that idea. Along with foreshadowing, Capote extends his message with ... • 4. The Good The Bad And Your Business In The Good, the Bad, and Your Business, Jeffery Seglin explains that managers in today s business world must not only deal with situations pertaining to the workplace, but also make more complicated decisions regarding their employees personal lives. Seglin explains that the best managers treat those below them on the corporate ladder not as subordinates, but as equals. He cites a Gallop Organization study which revealed that employees who feel cared about, that their opinion matters, and that their companies are family friendly will not only be happier, but will perform better. This being said, a manager merely saying he values his employees is not sufficient; rather, the employees must sense that there is substance to the manager s claims. Similarly, Seglin references Kenneth Goodpaster, who believes that companies have a moral obligation to avoid harming their employees directly, help employees in need, and respect the rights of their employees. ... Giving the employee another chance as long as he seeks treatment follows the team oriented culture of the organization by supporting an employee in a tough time. In other words, the CEO decided to practice what he preaches regarding caring for his employees. Unfortunately, the consultant relapses and costs the company once again. This time, the company has a plan. They have policies in place, and put him on short term disability and in a live in rehabilitation center. The CEO decides to invest company time and money to rehabilitate him, rather than terminating him. While this is done with the best intentions, it is a dangerous path. It requires managerial discretion because if it fails, it is costly both monetarily (for the company) and emotionally (for the manager and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Magic of Working Together by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles offers four keys to developing a highly effective team. The authors use a parable story telling technique about a youth recreation hockey league, the Warriors, to demonstrate how implementing the four concepts can turn around a team to success. They parallel the process to show how the same techniques can be used in the business world. I think what the authors are saying has been proven in how we developed our learning team. We learned that we were better together than we were individually. Our commitment to the team grew stronger because we recognized our output was better if done collectively. 4. Keeping the accent on the positive by repeated reward and recognition. • 7. Cursive Writing In Public Schools Should cursive writing be taught to students in public schools? Personally, I believe cursive writing is a bit outdated in a sense. But I do not see it as a roadblock to any stepping stones if students were taught cursive writing. There are several facts and statements that add to the support of my opinion. Cursive writing is seen as outdated in sorts due to the quickly developing technological world. In 2012, a survey was conveyed amongst handwriting teachers and come to find out only 37% of the teachers used cursive writing. Computer skills and typing are crucial in todays world. Cursive was once used as a form of identification, people s signatures were valued. Where in todays world, signatures are not always used. We now have digital passwords, as well as thumbprints to verify identity. I would argue that cursive writing is proven to help stimulate both the left and right sides of the human brain, while as typing and print do not. It is believed that handwriting goes hand in hand with brain injuries. Tests showed that some people who had suffered brain injuries that affected their writing, typing, or print, could still write in cursive. This directly proves that cursive, type, and print use different sections of the brain. Though cursive writing excercises both parts of the brain, is it worth sacrificing needed time in todays fast acting technological world? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. The Machiavelli And Machiavelli s The Prince I have always found great interest in the infamous Niccolo Machiavelli and his ways of thinking; my eye was drawn to him long before I knew I would be studying at Colorado State and even before I had any interest in politics. It was from young man know as Tupac Shakur, and let me tell you it is great to finally understand who Machiavelli is and the things he has done for the outlook on politics after hearing about how much respect and praise he got from the iconic rapper of the 1990s. In this paper I will be analyzing and contrasting Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Princeand their ideas on subjects that include good governance and social orders, key reforms, and who should be held responsible for providing good governance and an orderly society. First let us discuss the ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli in is piece The Prince . Machiavelli has a very independent controversial way of thinking and portraying his ideal form of governance in this text. The ideal and most effective from of governance for him is not in that of a republic but instead he insists in an autocratic regime. He argues that republics and other forms of government are too weak because of the corruptness of human nature. This book is written as a guide on how a prince should run his state or nation based on how and when he would come into this power. One of his main concerns in which he has been criticized for is his disregard to follow moral values so as to properly run the state, as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Old Spice Company uses several methods to convey a message and sell their product. Old Spice commercials are well known for using the famous Isaiah Mustafa, wrapped in just a towel, to talk about the company s product. While Mustafa walks and talks, the background and setting of the commercial changes and the actor never loses eye contact. The product is always shown throughout the entire commercial. Throughout the entire ad, the central character does not have any clothing on except for a towel. Also, the undying eye contact, never ending perfect posture and the same central location of the bathroom also has an equal sexual appeal. Isaiah Mustafa is very buff, tall, and has the ultimate sexy voice. His eyes, stance, lack of clothing and voice draw you in like a moth to a light. The overall appeal to the character is unquestionable, you cannot help but stare. If you cannot help but pay attention to a commercial, then you will also pay attention to the product being addressed (citation 2). In this way, the company is able to grab your attention and keep it long enough to get their product out there. The racial innuendo in the Old Spice commercial is probably the least evident technique used to draw potential customers in. Sometimes society even questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle is addressed in Jane Campions film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She is looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be viewed as her containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive outlook is asserted in the scenes where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting in the window while it is wrapped around her. She smiles, alone in her freedom to be who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the closing scene, the author is home and content to be within that window. • 16. Body Mass Lab Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables, are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass (kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction, and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan, and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and the expected brain size, it allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales still take place in supermarkets. Overall, brand switchers will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency. Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do wrong? How would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement is closely related to the Law of Legacy and very relevant to being a leader in the modern business world. The statement only consists of a few words, but these words are very powerful and if this statement is followed, your reputation as a leader will be respected and hopefully emulated. The statement is, Lead by example, do what is right, be the best you can be, and treat others the way you would like to be treated. A biblical example of the law of legacy comes from Moses in the book of Numbers. The scripture comes from Numbers 27:18 23. In this scripture, Moses strategically taught Joshua through apprenticeship training and passed along his legacy, which no one questioned upon the passing of the torch. Joshua eventually became known as a leader who would complete the task of leading the people into the Promised Land. This, according to Maxwell s description of the Law of Legacy is the ultimate goal, and exactly what Moses achieved. The subsequent examples are not only relevant to Moses teaching Joshua in the biblical times, but also for a modern leader preparing his sheep for taking over the business. Moses empowered Joshua and gave him authority. To be a successful leader in the modern business world, you have to decide when it is the appropriate time for your successor to receive a bite of the pie. Outline and Evaluate Issues Surrounding the Classification and Diagnosis of Depression Scheff s Labelling Theory is a process which involves labelling people with mental disorders when they produce behaviour that does not fit with socially constructed norms and labelling those who reflect stereotyped or stigmatized behaviour of the mentally ill . A disadvantage of labelling an individual with depression is that labelling can accentuate and prolong the issue. In addition by labelling someone with depression who in fact is not depressed may in fact become depressed as a result. One type is Test retest reliability, which occurs when a practitioner makes the same consistent diagnosis on separate occasions from the same information. In terms of depression this can be applied if the same Doctor or Psychiatrist gives a patient a diagnosis of depression on two separate occasions. The other is Inter rater reliability occurs when several practitioners make identical, independent diagnoses of the same patient. This can be applied to depression by confirming that the diagnosis of depression is accurate in a given situation. Issues of validity also arise in the diagnosis of depression. For example, Predictive validity occurs if diagnosis leads to successful treatment, then the diagnosis can be seen as valid. Under the heading of depression, there are a series of depressive disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder, Pre Menstrual Disorder etc. In terms of depression predictive validity will occur if the right diagnosis is made followed by a subsequent correct course of action. My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay 1.My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious hatred of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews possess by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the wide spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your definition goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We talked some during the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we discussed the six parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitismcould come about by combining our two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could be: antisemitism is defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jewsor Judaismfrom its mildest expressions to exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying, the destruction of religious objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. A Genetic Engineering Outline oTH Morgan concluded that chromosome play an important part in heredity and the passing on genetic traits o Griffith injected mice with different types of bacteria and when he injected them with S cells, the mice died. When the mice were injected with the R cells, they continued to live. The mice would survive if they were injected with heat killed S Cells but died when given a dosage of heat killed S Cells and normal R Cells. The reaction of the two cells was the possible and most likely death of the mouse. o Avery, Macleod, and McCarthy took the findings of Griffith and wanted to reason why the combination of the two cells killed the mouse. The took the different parts which would cause the DNA, Protein, and RNA and eventually eliminated them one by one. After all of that, only bacteria that was exposed to the S strain DNA were transformed. This gave the idea that DNA is what was controlling living things and was the outcome of this experiment o Hershey and Chase Radioactively tagged and then tracked infected bacteria in order to prove that DNA was in fact the molecule of heredity and transferring of genetic material o Chargaff proved two very important rules about DNA, All species have different amounts of adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine in their DNA The Amount of Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine in each species DNA is different. o Crick and Watson used X ray diffraction data, which Rosalind Franklin developed which was then used to develop the double ... • 27. Symbolism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the underlying theme displayed throughout the entirety of the story is conforming and defying to society s gender expectations. This is shown through the literary device, symbolism. Symbolism is seen through Flora the horse and the protagonist s mother. Firstly, Munro displays society s weak and stereotypical view of women through the protagonist s mother. The mother acts exactly as society expects girls to, staying inside the house, cooking and cleaning. For example, the mother did not often come out of the house unless it was to do something hang out the wash or dig potatoes in the garden. (43) indicating that her sole purpose was to be inside the home. However, although women are expected to be weak and silenced, the protagonist opposes herself to society s expectations. While most girls are expected to help their mother in the kitchen and stay inside, the protagonist prefers to help my father when he cut the long grass, and the lamb s quarter and flowering money musk, that grew between the pens. He cut with the scythe and I raked into piles. (43) Due to the protagonist preferring to work outside with her father it makes her mother feel as though, It s not like I (she) had a girl in the family at all. (44) which is evidence that the protagonist defies gender conventions by participating in male oriented tasks. Munro expresses the protagonist s unconventionality through the use of symbolism in Flora the horse. Flora is viewed as, given to fits of violent alarm, veering at cars and even at other horses, but we loved her speed and high stepping, her general air of gallantry and abandon. (44) Whereas, the other horse Mack, is described at slow and easy to handle (44) The inclusion of the comparison amongst Mack and Flora is to show the reader that Flora s wild and brave personality is not common and is seen as unconventional which represents the protagonist and her separation from the norm. Furthermore, the protagonist continues to be unconventional by going against society s expectations for women, once she truly realizes what it means to be a girl. This is shown through Flora fighting to avoid getting shot. Once Flora realizes her fate of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These three objectives include expanding sales, acquiring recourses, and to minimize risk. I feel that Disney was motivated by all three of these aspects, and possibly others when deciding whether or not he should move more of his business abroad. After seeing how successful the two theme parks in the United States were doing, the next option would be to expand. By expanding the parks into five international parks, Disney s theme parks outside the United States would reportedly exceed that inside the country. The company lowered their prices, agreed to make French the first language, terminated the no alcohol policy, and took on more promotional projects to advertise the park more efficiently. Another great contribution to making Disney Paris a success was the French government. The government decided to expand the Paris railway and connect it to the park. This would allow the park to be joined to the rest of Europe. 4.In my opinion, yes, I think that Disney should set up a park in Shanghai. The other parks that have been opened and running for a few years have shown great success. I think this is a perfect city to create and begin another Disney theme park. Shanghai is a successful and fast growing city full of trading and profit. Because there is so much traveling and tourists going through China, Shanghai s Disney theme park would attract a vast majority of these people to their park. • 39. Descriptive Essay On Home Sweet Home Home Sweet Home Everyone dreams about buying his or her dream house; I lost my dream house, twice. When my girlfriend Izzy and I began house searching, it was a whirlwind of excitement. This was our first hunt in the real estate market, and we were ready to close in on the perfect first house. Suddenly we were staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses on Zillow. Throw pillows, dishes and pictures began to jump off the shelves at us in every store we entered. We anxiously imagined every aspect of what we wanted in our house. The rush of chasing down the ideal house and making it our home was thrilling, yet short lived. We were set on a modern ranch style dwelling, farmhouse style for her, and a large garage for me. One day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every bullet point on our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home had a large southern style front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets. The open and light build was perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage complete with a custom peg wall for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the house was the back yard, large and completely fenced in. The storage and build was perfect for me. We knew this was our house; it had to be. As we were standing in the center of the bare living room, our real estate agent s phone began to ring. We ... In this reading Adams argues that the problem of evil has been directed at theism in general, which in this case has caused readers on either side of the debate to miss how important and how unique Christianityis to the problem of horrendous evils on this view. She argues that Christianity has a variety of unique tools that can meet the problem of evilmore effectively when not abstracted into simply classical theism. Rather than jettisoning these types of answers, then, I think we would be best suited adding Adams defense to the many faceted response to the problem of evil from Christian philosophers of religion. My first objection is that she looks at the problem of evil as residing fundamentally in the finitude of creatures. She says that the main hurdle to atonement lies not in what we as people do but what and who we are. In the face of the holy, to use Otto s key term, `we have no more rightful place in God s household than worms and maggots do in ours nothing we could naturally be or do would make us suitable for divine company. Like fish without scales or anteaters that climb trees, we by our very natures challenge the orderliness of the cosmos, and are thus metaphysically unclean. It is thus our nature as the kind of creatures we are that leads Isaiah to declare paradigmatically in the face of God s holiness that he is a man of unclean lips who dwells among a people of unclean lips. Certainly some strands of Christian theology, particularly in the East, have taken this view, but I think they represent a minority. Helfat cites Teece and Pisano s (1994: 541) definition as the subset of the competences/capabilities which allow the firm to create new products and processes and respond to changing market circumstances (Helfat, 1997 : 339). Helfat examines how complimentary assets in a firm can influence their dynamic capabilities. Specifically, how a firm is able to use current assets, such as economies of scope, to respond to a dynamic market. Helfat examines the oil industry, which is often filled with high levels of complimentary assets such as R D and economies of scope, in order to gain a better understanding of how the theory of dynamic capability actualizes itself. Helfat uses data from the energy industry because its availability, the nature of the industry itself (highly diversified firms), and the unique opportunity to examine historical data of the dynamic environment (specifically the years which the OPEC oil embargo created oil shortages, and prices sky rocketed). Theoretical Argument Helfat s theoretical argument is that companies engaged in a dynamic environment, who are diversified in complimentary assets, will hold a strategic advantage over competitors because of the economies of scope presented to them by their asset structure. Psychologist Dr. Helen Fisher states that society tends to pressure women into feeling that motherhood is their sole connection to being female (Rutter, 1996). Both sexes seem to be more than adequately equipped by biology for parenthood. However, infertility affects 12% of American couples or approximately 4.5 million couples a year (Fertility, 1998). Infertility is technically defined as the inability to conceive after having regular intercourse for one year without using any form of birth control. Surprisingly, the odds against conception are strong most of the time. A woman has just a 20 35% chance of conceiving during each menstrual cycle, even at the peak of fertility (Infertility, 1996). These odds decline slightly in the women s late 20 s and early 30 s and more sharply after the age 35. Male fertility also decreases with age, although more slowly than female fertility. Fertility is impaired in as many men as women. The problem lies within the man a third of the time, another third of the time within the women, and the remaining third is usually a combination of the two (Youngkin, 1997). Health professionals emphasize the need for infertile couples to recognize the problem as our problem instead of mine or your problem. It is less emotionally damaging this way. For these reasons, both partners should be evaluated when a decision is made to make an attempt at conceiving. Common Causes of Infertility There are many known causes of infertility.
