Newark and Philadelphia Policy Review
This policy analysis will review the programs that the cities of Newark and Philadelphia implemented
and why these issues are important. The analysis will also examine the programs each city created to
address the violence in the specific urban areas of their city and the impacts the programs have had to
date. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of police foot patrol as a means of
deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction, community and problem oriented
policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence prevention. This will be done through the
examination of the Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA foot patrol experiments. The Philadelphia and
Newark foot patrol experiments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conclusion The policy and problem identified in this policy analysis recognized the significance of
the problem. Their goal was to address the issue of deterrence, public safety, and restoring
neighborhoods to a safe environment for kids and the elderly to live. The plan outlines challenges for
interactions with local residents and attracting more business to make the area a desirable place for
residents and visitors to patronize. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of
police foot patrol as a means of deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction,
community and problem oriented policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence
prevention. The Philadelphia Foot Patrol experiment was designed in response to a need to calculate
which method of problem oriented policing are successful in deterring crime in hot spot during the
summer months. We were able to conclude that after 3 months of intensive foot patrol in the treatment
area prevented 90 various violent crimes in hot spots, because we have to take in effect the notion of

The Concept Of Smart Grids Design
In order to identify one major issue in smart grids design, we propose a thought experiment: what if
we could built a smart power supply system from scratch? Would we rely on existing concepts, or we
would adopt a radically different approach? Imagine this new, technologically advanced, country
called Newlandia. Newlandia may or may not be particularly rich with energy generating natural
resources and has never had a power supply system. However, Newlandia enjoys major benefits: it is
free from political hurdles, existing infrastructure from other producers, and technological and
financial limitations, giving the designers unlimited choices and a single objective in mind: design a
reliable power system. Since the authors of this assignment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At first glance this makes much more sense in remote areas where grid connections are impractical or
economically infeasible to built. However this approach is even more promising in urban areas. In
Newlandia, electric cars are the new normal, which will not be an outlandish stretch of the
imagination in the real world in 20 30 years. Each day, car owners would come home from work, turn
on the lights, put the kettle on, turn the oven on to make dinner and of course, plug in their car. This
will dramatically increase peak power demand, which is practically impossible to supply by using
nuclear or coal plants for example, or alternatively, many more plants would have to be built. In such
scenario, probably the classical, centralised power supply system is not the optimal option. But if we
were to chose the distributed approach, what would be the main obstacle when it comes to realising
this vision? The answer, we believe, lies in energy storage. Energy storage is the only link in the chain
that has the potential to partially or even completely eliminate the challenges of power grid design.
These include, but are not limited to, distributed deployment of renewable energy, energy
intermittency, transmission congestion, frequency/voltage regulation, growth of loads on feeders,
power quality

Torture At Abu-Ghraib
The Torture at Abu Ghraib was a horrible event that took place around 2004 where prisoners were
taken and dehumanized. A total of 3,800 of detainees were in the prison when the dehumanizing was
taken place by making men of Islamic culture preform homosexual acts on each other. In addition to
this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of
the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of
these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following
orders . Which, as bad as it sounds, could pose an explanation for what happened at the Abu Ghraib
prison. More into this, a researcher by the name of

What Is The Theme In Sestina
Hidden between the thirty nine lines of Sestina, lay some major themes in literature. Even when the
September rain falls and in the failing light , the house is still a secure and warm place. But where is
this sense of comfort in Sestina? It appears that even though both the grandmother and the child are in
the chilly house, they are far apart from each other. She busies herself and tries to hide her emotions
while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of secrecy and
hint that she hides something. Despite the brief moments of contact when showing the picture the
child drew, the two characters are mentally immersed in their own worlds. Another Bishop s poem that
deals with the theme of home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She successfully creates a mournful tone by putting tears as one of the six final words. The mood is
led by feelings of sadness and sorrow. However, the reader does not know why. Bishop keeps this
sense of secrecy by revealing the grief but not the reason behind it. She uses visual imagery to
establish a simple, falsely harmonic domestic scene. The tension in the house is hidden behind the
silence in it. Bishop personifies the objects in the house to break it. Furthermore, the words of the
objects might clarify what is the reason for the grandmother s mood: It was to be. Says the Marvel
Stove. I know what I know, says the almanac. Apparently, something predetermined has happened
which relates to the theme of change, discussed in the previous section. This theme is closely related
to the role of the almanac. Its function is to predict the weather for the next year. Additionally, its
importance in the poem shows the role of the weather in the grandmother s life. The hanging almanac
is associated with a bird using the simile birdlike . The anaphora hovers suggests that it has control
over the child and the grandmother. Again, with the use of vivid language, Bishops includes the
almanac in the scene: the little moons fall down like tears/ from between the pages of the almanac .
The moons which resemble tears add up to the sense of sadness in the poem. Additionally, the

March 30, 1994. The staff at the facility were unaware of his history of depression and prior attempts
at suicide. When visited by friends, there was no indication to them that he was in any negative or
suicidal state of mind. He spent the day talking to counselors about his drug abuse and personal
problems, happily playing with his daughter Frances. These interactions were the last time Cobain saw
his daughter. Kurt went outside to smoke a cigarette the following night, he climbed over a 6 foot
fence and escaped the facility. He caught a cab back to Los Angeles and flew back to Seattle. On the
flight, he sat next to Duff Mckagan of Guns N Roses. Despite Kurt s own personal animosity towards
Guns N Roses, Kurt seemed happy according to Duff Mckagan. Most of his close family and friends
didn t know Kurt s whereabouts. On April 2 and 3, Kurt was spotted in numerous locations around

Invasive Species Extinction
Humans have caused another extinction, one that could possibly take us down in the process, species
are exponentially going extinct because of habitat loss, species exportation, and invasive species
bullying native species. On the other hand, scientists are trying to safe guard native species, keep
animals in captivity whether it be for the animals well being or for research, and widespread invasion.
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting What Everglades Pythons and Other Invasive
Species are Trying to Tell Us, by Julia Whitty and The Sixth Extinction, by Jeff Corwin. Habit loss has
been one of the most prominent issues regarding the animal kingdom, and now it seems like the
human race is trying to rid our earth of the decreasing amount of flora in certain areas. In Indonesia
rain forests are being torn apart to make way for palm oil plantations. Although palm oil is used in

loss. (Corwin, 8)

The athletic footwear industry includes all producers of shoes designed in an athletic style or for an
athletic use. We define the active footwear industry as an industry that manufactures shoes for active
lifestyles. The primary focus of this analysis is on the United States market as it represents roughly

In this industry, the Power of Buyers is low to moderate. It is considered low because athletic shoe
producers have two sets of customers, direct consumers and intermediate consumers creating very low
buyer concentration. Their intermediate consumers include a variety of stores from discounts stores,
sporting goods stores and department stores. Due to the large size of the athletic shoe producers, the
majority of intermediate consumers have very little negotiating ability and thus low power, allowing
the athletic footwear firms the ability to earn an increase in profits by selling to intermediate
consumers at full price. Some intermediate consumers such as large department stores and large
sporting goods stores would have the size to be able to leverage some power over the athletic shoe
producers giving them moderate power. The industry s members reach direct consumers through
vertically integrated self operated brick and mortar retail stores as well as through online firms. Direct
buyers have moderate power over the athletic shoe producers since there are no switching costs to go
between brands. However, athletic footwear is strategically important to people if they are either
athletes or people wanting to participate in high performance fitness activities, therefore giving them
low power since they depend on the product to fill a

After what you accused Dr. Reynolds of we really don t have a choice.
Dad, did Ashley really have a sister? Becca asked, breathing a heavy sigh. I need to know the truth.
Reluctantly, Mr. Cooper nodded. Cassandra died a long time ago and I promised Cathy I would never

She died the same day as Mom, Becca pointed out. She died the same day I was born.
How did you know that? he asked, peering down at her.
You ll just have to trust me, because I can t say.
Did Cathy say something to you?
No! Becca quickly answered. And she can t find out I know. I don t think Ashley has any idea.
She doesn t, Mr. Cooper assured her. And make darn sure you never tell her.
But, why? Becca asked, smacking her hands down on the blankets in frustration. Why can t she know
about her? Why can t she know about me?
I can t tell you, Becca. It looks like we re going to just have to trust each other on this one, Mr. Cooper

such as the tone, and the type of poem. Marlowe s is more of a romantic poem, a Shepherd expressing
his love to a woman. Herrick s is more of a preachy poem, the poet is telling these young virgins that
they need to hurry up and get married because they do not have much time.
Both Marlowe s The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and Herrick s To the Virgins, Make Much of

Robert Herrick s poem To the Virgins, Make Much of Time is considered to be a preachy type of
poem. The poet is telling young virgins that they need to hurry up and get married because they do not
have much time. Then be not coy, but use your time, and while ye may, go marry (Herrick) The Tone
of this poem is didactic, he is expressing his opinion. He is telling these young unmarried women to

modern TV shows of the same vein, borrowing certain aspects but not making, per say, a carbon copy
of the panel shows in question. Through this we plan to create something that is not so much original
but a fresh take on the formula of the panel show. The majority of shows which influence will be
drawn from will be of a comedic disposition. So in saying that, the set up of the show will be, that two
teams comprised of two people will compete against one another through a number of sections and
based on how they perform a points system will distinguish as to who the winning side is a all times
The host of the show being the one who puts these challenges to them and distinguishes who is the
victor at the end of each section. Like most shows we will begin with an opening VT, comprised of
motion graphics and pre recorded material that will be added in. The motion graphics themselves will
be created with the programme After Effects and for a more efficient work flow, an online template
will be used. The pre recorded material will be of the guests and possibly previous content which has
recorded in the studio. At this point in the show both a colour scheme, a flavour of what the show is

Design, Instrumentation And Analytical Tools Essay
The previous chapter focused on the identification and discussion of the theoretical framework, related
theories and the theoretical assertions of previous studies. This chapter identifies the methods, design,
instrumentation and analytical tools. The content of the chapter aims at the identification of
appropriate and suitable methods and the adoption of such within the confines of a systematic design
which clearly stipulates population and sampling procedures; data collection instruments with regards
to variable measurement and operational definitions, instrument reliability and validity as well as
descriptive and inferential statistical tools (Sekaran, 2003; Sarantakos, 2005). 3.2 Research Design
The research design is primarily concerned with the structure and framework of plans within which
empirical activities concerned with research are to be undertaken. It encapsulates concepts such as
population and sample of the study, methodology and characteristic of the study as well as instrument
for generation of data and defines the layout for the entire field work (Sullivan, 2001; Sarantakos,
2005). Similarly, Baridam (2008) describe research design as the basic question of how the focus of
the research will be brought into and how they will be employed within the research setting to obtain
the required information. It is a framework for collecting valid and reliable data to test the hypotheses
and answer the research questions. There are two main types of research

Importance Of Drinking Water Essay
Rural India has more than 700 million people residing in about 1.42 million habitations spread over 15
diverse ecological regions. Meeting the drinking water needs of such a large population can be a
daunting task. The non uniformity in level of awareness, socio economic development, education,
poverty, practices and rituals and water availability add to the complexity of the task. Despite an
estimated total of Rs. 1,105 billion spent on providing safe drinking water since the First Five Year
Plan was launched in 1951, lack of safe and clean drinking water continues to be a major obstacle and
a national economic burden.
Around 37.7 million Indians are affected by waterborne diseases annually; 1.5 million children are
estimated to die of diarrhoea alone in each year.
In our constitution the provision of safe drinking water has been given utmost priority, with Article 47
conferring the duty of providing clean drinking water and improving public health standards to the
State. The government has undertaken various programmes and policies since independence to
provide safe drinking water to the rural population. Till the 10th plan, an estimated total of Rs.1,105
billion spent on providing secure drinking water. One would argue that the expenditure is huge but it
is also true that despite such expenditure lack of safe and secure drinking water continues to be a
major issue and challenge for our country.

The Correlation Of Commercial Success And True Artistry
Questioning the correlation of commercial success and true artistry began in the light of mainstream
music. Mainstream music has been given a negative connotation due to the supposed lack of
originality of the artists. Repetitive chord progressions and meaningless lyrics compose the majority
of mainstream music, making each song sound like the next . Despite these patterns in music, artists
still ventured outside of what was societally normal and created music that was unheard of. Despite
the potential risks in being an individual in the music industry, several groups achieved high success
and maintain the popularity in the present. Creativity and commercial success can definitely exist
alongside one another, and this paper will prove that through the music of the Beatles, the
performance styles of David Bowie, and the grunge movement in Seattle which was fueled by
Nirvana.
The Beatles started as an English skiffle group in the late 1950s. By the time they reached their peak
popularity, the term Beatlemania was coined to explain the frenzied obsession with the group. A
former associate editor from Rolling Stone drew a comparison between the Beatles and Picasso,
calling them artists that broke through their time period to come up with something that was unique
and original. Throughout their discography, the Beatles have time and time again released music that
both broke musical trends and engrossed the masses. They have held an unprecedented top five spots

Throughout History, Poetry Has Evolved To Fit The Needs
Throughout history, poetry has evolved to fit the needs of the poet. Typically, scholars categorize
writings in time periods that often reflect similar ideals between writers. The Age of the Romantics,
can be viewed as a literary movement in which writers appear to have a similar driving force behind
writing. Two important authors during this Age of the Romantics are William Wordsworth and
William Blake. Although both Blake and Wordsworth are considered to be writers from the Romantic
literary period, they have contrasting beliefs on what it means to be a poet and the poets function in
society. For starters, Blake argues that people must not be limited to their senses. One of Blake s chief
arguments is that humanity is hindered when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes that people fail to use the imagination and then fail to transcend what their senses can tell
them is real. He explains in There Is No Natural Religion that, He who sees the Infinite in all things
sees God. He who sees the Ratio only sees himself only (117). Blake truly believed that humanity
needs to see more than just science and things that can be proven, he really believed in the power of
imagination. To Blake, he saw imagination as a portal to messages from a higher power namely God.
By contrast, Wordsworth takes a completely different approach to poetry where he relief heavily on
his senses. Wordsworth relied on his senses to produce images that he could then use to produce his
poetry. Wordsworth describes, I have said that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful
feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility (303). He continues, Now, if nature
be thus cautious in preserving in a state of enjoyment a being thus employed, the poet ought to profit
by the lesson thus held forth to him (303). These lines indicate the chief mission Wordsworth find
himself on when writing poetry. Thus, because nature can produce such feelings in the poet, the poet
must therefore rely heavily on what he sees. In order for him to have powerful feelings to recollect on
he must first have a visual aid to send him into this spontaneous overflow. This is one of the core
differences between Blake and

Mental Health Care In Prison
The number of aging people in the prison system has and will continue to have a major impact on
health care. Not only while they are in jail but once they are released the cost of health care for these
individuals is still a burden. While incarcerated many illnesses go untreated. Usually there are a
couple different factors in this situation, one is mental health and the other is unmet psychosocial
needs. Many people that are employed by the prison system don t have the proper training to know
how to test for the vast mental illnesses that need to be tested for. Then on the other hand if they have
the training they are understaffed and don t have time to get to everyone that needs the help. While
there has been many studies on how to improve health care while in prison, there is still a lot of
research that needs to be done to get a better handle on the financial aspect. ... Show more content on

Criminal Justice Health Care, older prisoners is at the root of a healthcare crisis. ( I just used the title

criminal health care system, it is not only effecting them but the public health care as well. It is hard
for those who are released back into the public to get on the insurance that they require. A parolee can
wait months to get some kind of insurance, in the months that are spent waiting they often go to the
emergency room. They often cannot pay the fees that come along with going to the emergency room,
because it is harder for them to get employment. They are not as likely to be employed based on their

A Concrete Human Existence, And The Conditions Of Such...

Thematic Project Outline
Introduction
Thesis.
Existentialists focus on the question that is a concrete human existence, and the conditions of such
existence; they do not dwell on a hypothesis for human essence, instead they stress that this essence is
determined by an individual s own life choices. Although humans live in the world, a distance is
created in order to add meaning to the disinterested world; however, this meaning is fragile and can be
disturbed by tragedy or insight. When this disturbance occurs, and human s precarious lives crumble,
the true nature of the world is revealed; a nature that shows little importance for humans; this way of
thinking created the, post WWII era, worldwide explosion of ambiguous literature, and the sensory
perception of art and music; heavily influenced by the idea of human worthlessness.
Literature Existentialism, though it had been present since the 19th century, came of age in the mid
20th Century. This was largely through the scholarly and fictional works of the French existentialists,
Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir. The heavily influenced post WWII
movement spurred up a whole new way of thinking. Sartre made the movement popular in that he
defined Existentialism and wrote many works solely centered on his views.
Simone de Beauvoir An important existentialist who spent much of her life alongside Sartre, wrote
about feminism, and existential ethics

Marge Piercy s Poetry
Marge Piercy is known for writing poems about women rights and women s negative treatment by
society in the 1936s. In her poem What s that smell in the kitchen? she talks about how society see
women. According to society, women were raised to cook and clean so women are supposed to have a
meal on the table for their husbands. Piercy s attitude toward this statement is that she is mad because
there is more quantiles to women than cooking and cleaning. In the poem What that smell in the
kitchen? Piercy s use of literary devices expresses how she feels about society treating women. This is
why women from all over the world are burning dinners, this is not because they do not know how to
cook, but as a protest to society that there is more quantiles to women. Society forces ... Show more

For example, in the last stanza Piercy states, Burning dinner is not incompetence but war. . This
metaphor helped the reader understand that women from all over the world are burning dinners as a
protest to society. This quotation shows how women are tired of being expected to have food on the
table for their husbands and clean the house, just because they were raised that way. In addition, the
author states, Look she says, once I was roast duck on your platter with parsley, but now I am spam.
This literary device allowed the reader to understand how women feels about society making them
feel less important. Piercy uses this metaphor as a symbol to show how women were once so
respected and powerful, but as time pass their power and respect began to fade away. They were no
longer appreciated for what they do. The connotations allowed the reader to figure out the universal
truth about women in the poem What s that smell in the kitchen? through the use of metaphors.
Another literary device that contributed to the reader discovery of the theme was the tone of the

The Women s Movement Essay
The Women s Movement The women s rights movement was a huge turning point for women because
they had succeeded in the altering of their status as a group and changing their lives of countless men
and women. Gender, Ideology, and Historical Change: Explaining the Women s Movement was a
great chapter because it explained and analyzed the change and causes of the women s movement.
Elaine Tyler May s essay, Cold War Ideology and the Rise of Feminism and Women s Liberation and
Sixties Radicalism by Alice Echols both gave important but different opinions and ideas about the
women s movement. Also, the primary sources reflect a number of economic, cultural, political, and
demographic influences on the women s movement. This chapter ... Show more content on

In her essay she relates the rise of feminist consciousness in the 1960s to numerous changes in
American society, especially the rise of other protest movements. Echols said, On September 7, 1968,
the sixties came to that most apple pie of American institutions, the Miss America Pageant (Echols,
308). The reason she said this was because one hundred women s liberation activists descended upon
Atlantic City to protest the pageant s promotion of physical attractiveness as the primary measure of
women s worth. From there, the protestors set up a Freedom Trash Can and filled it with high heeled
shoes, bras, girdles, hair curlers, false eyelashes, typing books, and representative copies of
Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Ladies Home Journal. They wanted to burn the contents but couldn t
because of the laws for bonfires on the boardwalk. Also, word had been leaked to the press that there
would be a symbolic bra burning. However, there were no bras burnt that day. But the image of the bra
burning, militant feminists remains part of our popular mythology about the women s liberation
movement. The Miss America demonstration represents an important moment in the history of the
sixties as well as the women s movement (Echols, 309 310). Although the women s liberation
movement only began to take shape toward the end of the decade, it was a quintessentially sixties
movement. The women s liberation movement alone carried on and extended into the 1970s that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bottled Water Is Better...
Your whole life has been a lie. Commercials, parents, friends, and even some of your teachers have
told you that bottled water is better than tap. Well bottle your emotions and listen to what i have to say.
One can argue that bottled water is better than tap but their argument will not be as strong or
convincing as mine will be to do the opposite, to convince you that tap water is better than bottled
water. The discussion has been around for a while now and we all know that tap water is more
beneficial than bottled water. First off, tap water is more regulated and checked than bottled water is
making it safer than bottled water. Tap water is also nowhere near as expensive as bottled water is and
it s better for the environment too. Lastly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2013 the average cost for tap water was $2 per every thousand gallons. While bottled was $1.21 for
every gallon alone. Here is another way to look at it, if you buy a $1 bottled water everyday for a year,
you end up spending $365 on water that most likely is from a tap source (Livingston). Why spend
$365 annually on bottled water when you can just use your own faucet or the nearest water fountain?
People spend so much money on bottled water that could be used for water charities across the world
to help people who don t have access to a clean water supply. This would call for everyone who does
have access to a clean tap water source, to use it and take the money that they would rather spend on a
bottle and put it towards a greater cause. By choosing to drink tap water you save money daily,
weekly, monthly, and annually so before you pay $2.14 for that bottle of purified water remember you
have the same, if not better, quality water at your house.
Another thing about tap water that is overlooked is how often we use it in our everyday lives. On
average, an American family uses 300 gallons of water everyday. Now there is no way one family can
drink 300 gallons of water in one day so how do they use that much? The answer is because tap water
has multiple uses other than just being drinking water. Everyday when you take a shower, brush your
teeth, flush the toilet, wash the dishes,

Hope in the Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption Essay Question 8: Analyse how specific techniques were used to portray
inspiring ideas in a visual; or oral text. Directed by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption tells
the Story of Andy Dufrane, a man who has been wrongly convicted of murder and must endure life
inside the harsh and corrupt Shawshank prison, but despite this he never loses hope of finding
freedom. Hope is an important inspiring idea in this film, as it is what sustains him during the long and
difficult years within the prison, and it is the result of this enduring hope that Andy finally finds
freedom. There are many visual and oral techniques used throughout the film to portray the idea of
hope. This includes the hope that Andy holds, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the lighting is very bright and natural. This small glimpse of the outside world
reinvigorates Andy s hope and sustains him through his time at Shawshank. We drank beer like free
men said Red, showing how this small act represented so much freedom for the men. But the light in
this scene was bright evening light, the last glimpse of light at the end of the day before becoming
darkness. This symbolises that Andy s hope is only fleeting, soon he must return to the confines of
Shawshank, A language feature used in The Shawshank Redemption to show hope is dialogue. In
particular there is Reds voice over narration, which shows how Reds opinion of hope changes
throughout the movie. Andy is a symbol of hope in Shawshank, and it is not only Andy s hope that
grows but he also affects the inmate around him. When Andy first tells Red of his dream to go to
Mexico, Red says; Hope is a dangerous thing. It will drive a man insane, it has no place here. This
shows how Red thought that hope was pointless and futile. This also shows how the prison could take
away a man s hope; even turn him bitterly against the idea of it. It is only when Andy eventually
makes his escape that the inmates realise how truly powerful hope is. When Red is released from
prison and make his way to Mexico, he says; I hope the Pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams. I hope.
This use of repetition shows the attitude

Rudyard Kipling Metaphors
Rudyard Kipling, an English poet born in India, was known for his classic poems that reflect the harsh
treatment he received in America. From such a harsh past, Kipling was able to describe several topics
through the use of multiple stylistic elements. The author creates a theme of the cruelty of society in
his poems If , The Thousandth Man, and The White Man s Burden through the use of metaphors, little
imagery, and repetition. To begin, Kipling uses a metaphor heavy writing style to effectively get his
point across. In the poem If , Kipling uses metaphors to create more meaning behind the quote, If you

An example of where Kipling could ve elaborated on his ideas with imagery is when he implied that
Yours is the Earth and all that s in it ( If Line 31). Here, Kipling presents himself with an opportunity
to further elaborate on the subject. While he could have described what the reader can obtain or gain
from the world, Kipling keeps it open to our imagination to decide what s in it. Another example of
where Kipling could ve elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he exaggerated that Nine hundred
and ninety nine of em go / by your looks, or your acts, or your glory ( The Thousandth Man Lines 11
12). The lack of adjectives used by Kipling in this text prevents him from being able to describe each
of these aspects. This suggests that the nine hundred and ninety nine people are blind by what you are
actually doing, and only view you by your authority. One last scenario of where Kipling could ve
elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he orders his sons to Go bind ... to exile / to serve [the]

emphasized using more imagery. Using imagery, the author would have better revealed his idea of

When president Obama was a candidate in the 2008 election he promised wide scale health care
reform that would increase the availability and affordability of medical insurance for a large portion of
the American population. At the time of his campaign, millions of low income Americans were stuck
in the Medicaid gap where they could not afford health insurance, but also were not eligible for the

Of those people many were considered below the poverty threshold, however due to strict state
regulations these individuals or families did not qualify for insurance through Medicaid. As a result,
when these Americans needed to be seen by doctors, insured tax paying American s would be stuck
with their bills. In order to alleviate this problem, president Obama decided to lead a major campaign
to increase the affordability of health care. Through draft bills in the house and senate, the Affordable
Care Act, commonly referred to as Obama Care, covers a large portion of Americans who before it
became a law would be left without insurance. The bill has two main parts making healthcare
affordable to low income families and increasing the scope of Medicaid eligibility. Before
ObamaCare, families and individuals who were not covered by employers for healthcare had to seek
out insurance on their own. This task proved very difficult as insurance providers charged steep prices
for coverage. In short, health care coverage was not affordable to a large portion of the population.
The law seeks to cover Americans who are between 138% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
They can sign up for Health Care via a government run website, which will allow them to choose a
plan that best suits their needs. A formula will then decide based on their state how much a plan will

the playwright. From the beginning when she mentions thinking about Peter for eight minutes a day to
when she realizes that she not only leaves eight minutes to think about him, but she lets him affect her
life; even though they have not seen each other in years. This implication takes place not only in the
play but in the real world as well. I do not agree to holding onto things that are not tangible. Holding
on to a feeling you had when one was younger does not help a person as an adult. It will start to affect
the things you do or the things you should be doing. It will affect the people around you, just like
Wendy s situation, it will cause conflict between the ones that you are close to. No one around you
wants to see their loved one or best friend clinging on to a feeling they should have no problem letting
go of. The disadvantage of holding on to old feelings results in an unhappy person, in someone who
cannot leave the mindset they are in. It will slow a person down in succeeding in life, creates speed
bumps in life, and keep them from their

Differential Effects of American Destabilization Policy...
Differential Effects of American Destabilization Policy in Chile in the 1970s and Cuba in the 1990s
Just three years after taking office in 1970, Chile s military removed the leftist President Salvador
Allende from power. In Cuba, nearly forty years after his ascension to power in 1959, Fidel Castro
continues to control a communist regime. In Chile in the early 1970s and in Cuba in the early 1990s,
the United States exasperated severe economic crises. In addition, the United States attempted to
foster political opposition to create coup climates to overthrow both leaders. The similarities in these
histories end there. Chile s open, democratic political system allowed the U.S. to polarize the nation,
paving the way for Pinochet s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
businesses created two thirds of the $1.6 in foreign investment, and two U.S. copper corporations
alone controlled 80 percent of the Chilean copper industry. Under their destabilization strategy, the
U.S. undertook economic measures designed to make the Chilean economy scream. The Nixon
administration sought to terminate and reduce financing for U.S. exports and guarantees for corporate
investment, lobby private investors to curb economic interests, bring maximum feasible influence on
the multilateral banks to cut their lending to Chile, terminate bilateral economic aid programs, and
dump U.S. copper holdings onto the international market, and lower prices. In addition to
implementing direct economic measures, the Nixon administration also used its influence to affect the
policies of international economic players. For example, US officials worked behind the scenes to
assure that the World Bank denied 21 million livestock improvement credit and future loans to Chile.
The U.S. also blocked negotiations, and putting pressure against Chile in the Paris Club debt
negotiations regarding the $1 billion debt that the Frei government had run up in U.S. banks. In sum,
these policies were effective. In 1970, loans to Chile were cut from $46 million to $2 million by the
IDB, $31 million to $0 by thy World Bank, $110 million to $3 million in bilateral U.S. assistance by
the AID, and $280 million to $0 by the Export Import bank.

Thomas Hobbes Despotism
After attending the press conference on January 18, 1783 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nine political
philosophers advocated their views on the best form of government. They have reached a consensus.
The most focal being Thomas Hobbes views on the relationship of the governed and the authority,
King Louis s stance on an absolute ruler, and William Laud s premise of religious applications in
government. Therefore, the best form of government is one of an absolute sovereign.
Thomas Hobbes promoted despotism in which the common man is, by all means, submissive to the
unquestionable decision maker. For instance, he claims that men are selfish in their natural state.
Hobbes emphasizes that The condition of man... is a condition of war of everyone against everyone.
This freedom spurs chaos and insecurity. This leads us to his Social Contract theory. Hobbes argues
that people should surrender their rights that limit another s to the governing body in exchange for
security. In other words, since men are inherently driven to act by their wants, a tacit agreement
between men and the monarch is made to shield them from their wickedness. Lastly, Hobbes states
that a division of power will cause internal conflict within government. To put it in another way, there
will always be debate in compromise. Therefore, the nation will ... Show more content on

He thoroughly believed in the divine right of kings. Likewise, if you didn t, you were a bad christian.
Laud also supported the principles of the Book of Common Prayer which supported obedience to god.
Nonetheless, Laud voiced for religious uniformity. He feared that the church would lose its influence.
To infer, Laud suggested to solely rely on the teachings of the anglican church, thereby increasing the
influence of the church and the king. Since the king was a prophet from god, he therefore should be
the ruler. Essentially, if the common people revolt, they were straying away from

The Metamorphosis Essay
The Metamorphosis
The longer story The Metamorphosis, first published in 1971, was written by Franz Kafka. He was
born in Prague in 1883 and lived until 1924, and he has written many other stories along with The
Metamorphosis. The Metamorphosis appears to be a fantastic piece. After reading The
Metamorphosis, I do believe that there are many similarities between magical realism and fantastic
literature. Kafka showed many fantastic issues in The Metamorphosis.
While reading The Metamorphosis, I did not feel that it had any magical elements in the story, but had
many fantastic elements. In my opinion, I think that the story did have some realist elements. For
example, there was a lot of tension with the family. Although it had to do ... Show more content on

But what is particularly found problematic is the apparent contradiction in the definition of magical
realism as an amalgamation of realism and fantasy such as The Metamorphosis (129).
Many things are fantasy, but now since I have learned what magical realism is, I see magical realism
in The Metamorphosis. I feel that waking up and being something else is magical and a person hearing
his family talking and being scared to leave his room is magical. Also, he had to learn how to walk
differently, lie differently, and even eat differently. I feel that part is more magical than fantastic.
The Metamorphosis did have some realist elements as well. Before Gregor Samsa turned into an
insect, he was a young traveling salesman who lived with and financially supported his parents and his
young sister. Another realist element I found was that it is true that insects do not like the same food
we eat. Gregor s food habits changed. Even though he was an insect, his sister still found the time to
feed him, and when she fed him, she gave him bread and milk because that was his favorite. When
Gregor went to eat it as an insect, he no longer liked the taste. He began eating scraps. He also liked
staying under the furniture. All insects like to hide, and even though he went from a human to a bug,
he is doing the things that an insect would naturally

Igor Stravinsky s The Rite Of Spring
As I listened to Igor Stravinsky download 70, Stravinsky s musical piece differs from that of the
romantic era by the unadorned lines, raw energy, and elemental truth in which was incorporated into
his musical piece I listened to and analyzed The Rite of Spring. During this period modern artists such
as Igor Stravinsky were determined to turn the public away from Romantic idealism and back to harsh
reality, as stated. In this particular piece it was heard to have intensifying metallic sounds which are
not expected catching the listeners as well as the dancers of this particular art off guard. Whereas, in
the romantic era calm signifying sounds are incorporated in each musical piece. In The Rite of Spring
Stravinsky takes the listeners as well

The analysis will also examine the programs each city created to address the violence in the specific urban areas of their city and the impacts the programs have had to date. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of police foot patrol as a means of deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction, community and problem oriented policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence prevention. • 3. The Concept Of Smart Grids Design In order to identify one major issue in smart grids design, we propose a thought experiment: what if we could built a smart power supply system from scratch? Would we rely on existing concepts, or we would adopt a radically different approach? Imagine this new, technologically advanced, country called Newlandia. Newlandia may or may not be particularly rich with energy generating natural resources and has never had a power supply system. However, Newlandia enjoys major benefits: it is free from political hurdles, existing infrastructure from other producers, and technological and financial limitations, giving the designers unlimited choices and a single objective in mind: design a reliable power system. Since the authors of this assignment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first glance this makes much more sense in remote areas where grid connections are impractical or economically infeasible to built. However this approach is even more promising in urban areas. In Newlandia, electric cars are the new normal, which will not be an outlandish stretch of the imagination in the real world in 20 30 years. Each day, car owners would come home from work, turn on the lights, put the kettle on, turn the oven on to make dinner and of course, plug in their car. This will dramatically increase peak power demand, which is practically impossible to supply by using nuclear or coal plants for example, or alternatively, many more plants would have to be built. In such scenario, probably the classical, centralised power supply system is not the optimal option. But if we were to chose the distributed approach, what would be the main obstacle when it comes to realising this vision? The answer, we believe, lies in energy storage. Energy storage is the only link in the chain that has the potential to partially or even completely eliminate the challenges of power grid design. These include, but are not limited to, distributed deployment of renewable energy, energy intermittency, transmission congestion, frequency/voltage regulation, growth of loads on feeders, power quality ... In addition to this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following orders . • 8. What Is The Theme In Sestina Hidden between the thirty nine lines of Sestina, lay some major themes in literature. Even when the September rain falls and in the failing light , the house is still a secure and warm place. But where is this sense of comfort in Sestina? It appears that even though both the grandmother and the child are in the chilly house, they are far apart from each other. She busies herself and tries to hide her emotions while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of secrecy and hint that she hides something. Despite the brief moments of contact when showing the picture the child drew, the two characters are mentally immersed in their own worlds. Another Bishop s poem that deals with the theme of home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She successfully creates a mournful tone by putting tears as one of the six final words. The mood is led by feelings of sadness and sorrow. However, the reader does not know why. Bishop keeps this sense of secrecy by revealing the grief but not the reason behind it. She uses visual imagery to establish a simple, falsely harmonic domestic scene. The tension in the house is hidden behind the silence in it. Bishop personifies the objects in the house to break it. Furthermore, the words of the objects might clarify what is the reason for the grandmother s mood: It was to be. Says the Marvel Stove. I know what I know, says the almanac. Apparently, something predetermined has happened which relates to the theme of change, discussed in the previous section. This theme is closely related to the role of the almanac. Its function is to predict the weather for the next year. Additionally, its importance in the poem shows the role of the weather in the grandmother s life. Due to the large size of the athletic shoe producers, the majority of intermediate consumers have very little negotiating ability and thus low power, allowing the athletic footwear firms the ability to earn an increase in profits by selling to intermediate consumers at full price. Some intermediate consumers such as large department stores and large sporting goods stores would have the size to be able to leverage some power over the athletic shoe producers giving them moderate power. Typically, scholars categorize writings in time periods that often reflect similar ideals between writers. The Age of the Romantics, can be viewed as a literary movement in which writers appear to have a similar driving force behind writing. Two important authors during this Age of the Romantics are William Wordsworth and William Blake. Although both Blake and Wordsworth are considered to be writers from the Romantic literary period, they have contrasting beliefs on what it means to be a poet and the poets function in society. He believes that people fail to use the imagination and then fail to transcend what their senses can tell them is real. He explains in There Is No Natural Religion that, He who sees the Infinite in all things sees God. He who sees the Ratio only sees himself only (117). Blake truly believed that humanity needs to see more than just science and things that can be proven, he really believed in the power of imagination. To Blake, he saw imagination as a portal to messages from a higher power namely God. By contrast, Wordsworth takes a completely different approach to poetry where he relief heavily on his senses. Wordsworth relied on his senses to produce images that he could then use to produce his poetry. Wordsworth describes, I have said that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility (303). He continues, Now, if nature be thus cautious in preserving in a state of enjoyment a being thus employed, the poet ought to profit by the lesson thus held forth to him (303). These lines indicate the chief mission Wordsworth find himself on when writing poetry. Existentialists focus on the question that is a concrete human existence, and the conditions of such existence; they do not dwell on a hypothesis for human essence, instead they stress that this essence is determined by an individual s own life choices. Although humans live in the world, a distance is created in order to add meaning to the disinterested world; however, this meaning is fragile and can be disturbed by tragedy or insight. When this disturbance occurs, and human s precarious lives crumble, the true nature of the world is revealed; a nature that shows little importance for humans; this way of thinking created the, post WWII era, worldwide explosion of ambiguous literature, and the sensory perception of art and music; heavily influenced by the idea of human worthlessness. Literature Existentialism, though it had been present since the 19th century, came of age in the mid 20th Century. This was largely through the scholarly and fictional works of the French existentialists, Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir. The heavily influenced post WWII movement spurred up a whole new way of thinking. Sartre made the movement popular in that he defined Existentialism and wrote many works solely centered on his views. Why spend $365 annually on bottled water when you can just use your own faucet or the nearest water fountain? People spend so much money on bottled water that could be used for water charities across the world to help people who don t have access to a clean water supply. This would call for everyone who does have access to a clean tap water source, to use it and take the money that they would rather spend on a bottle and put it towards a greater cause. By choosing to drink tap water you save money daily, weekly, monthly, and annually so before you pay $2.14 for that bottle of purified water remember you have the same, if not better, quality water at your house. Another thing about tap water that is overlooked is how often we use it in our everyday lives. On average, an American family uses 300 gallons of water everyday. Now there is no way one family can drink 300 gallons of water in one day so how do they use that much? The answer is because tap water has multiple uses other than just being drinking water. Everyday when you take a shower, brush your teeth, flush the toilet, wash the dishes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This symbolises that Andy s hope is only fleeting, soon he must return to the confines of Shawshank, A language feature used in The Shawshank Redemption to show hope is dialogue. In particular there is Reds voice over narration, which shows how Reds opinion of hope changes throughout the movie. Andy is a symbol of hope in Shawshank, and it is not only Andy s hope that grows but he also affects the inmate around him. When Andy first tells Red of his dream to go to Mexico, Red says; Hope is a dangerous thing. It will drive a man insane, it has no place here. This shows how Red thought that hope was pointless and futile. This also shows how the prison could take away a man s hope; even turn him bitterly against the idea of it. It is only when Andy eventually makes his escape that the inmates realise how truly powerful hope is. When Red is released from prison and make his way to Mexico, he says; I hope the Pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams. I hope. This use of repetition shows the attitude ... From such a harsh past, Kipling was able to describe several topics through the use of multiple stylistic elements. The author creates a theme of the cruelty of society in his poems If , The Thousandth Man, and The White Man s Burden through the use of metaphors, little imagery, and repetition. To begin, Kipling uses a metaphor heavy writing style to effectively get his point across. In the poem If , Kipling uses metaphors to create more meaning behind the quote, If you can bear to hear the truth you ve spoken / twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools ( If Lines 13 14). An example of where Kipling could ve elaborated on his ideas with imagery is when he implied that Yours is the Earth and all that s in it ( If Line 31). Here, Kipling presents himself with an opportunity to further elaborate on the subject. While he could have described what the reader can obtain or gain from the world, Kipling keeps it open to our imagination to decide what s in it. Another example of where Kipling could ve elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he exaggerated that Nine hundred and ninety nine of em go / by your looks, or your acts, or your glory ( The Thousandth Man Lines 11 12). The lack of adjectives used by Kipling in this text prevents him from being able to describe each of these aspects. This suggests that the nine hundred and ninety nine people are blind by what you are actually doing, and only view you by your authority. The bill has two main parts making healthcare affordable to low income families and increasing the scope of Medicaid eligibility. Before ObamaCare, families and individuals who were not covered by employers for healthcare had to seek out insurance on their own. This task proved very difficult as insurance providers charged steep prices for coverage. In short, health care coverage was not affordable to a large portion of the population. The most focal being Thomas Hobbes views on the relationship of the governed and the authority, King Louis s stance on an absolute ruler, and William Laud s premise of religious applications in government. Therefore, the best form of government is one of an absolute sovereign. Thomas Hobbes promoted despotism in which the common man is, by all means, submissive to the unquestionable decision maker. This freedom spurs chaos and insecurity. This leads us to his Social Contract theory.
