Persuasive Essay On Eugenics
A lot of people have not heard of Eugenics because of the dark past in the history of not only the
United States but also across Europe. What does it mean to have a perfect world? Back in the 1920s
they had an idea to create a world that only included a certain idea of whom the best type of people
were. This may sound like an interesting idea but the price of our own human decency was taken in
which human life did not mean the same for everyone. Most people are unaware of what Eugenics is
because it is not a proud point in the United States, so it does not get taught or talked about very often.
Eugenics started in the late 1800 s. A man named, Sir Francis Galton was the first person to use the
word eugenics. The word eugenics means, the science of improving a human population by controlled
breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. (Eugenics) For a while
Eugenics was just an idea of how to perfect the human population. The ideas were put into books and
then analyzed scientifically, but in a way that was biased and unreliable. The Supreme Court put a law
in place called, Buck V. Bell, which supported the obligatory sterilization of people that would be seen
as unfit in our society. This law was put in place in the year of 1927 and was reprimanded in 1942.
Although in some places it still goes on today illegally. The science of Eugenics was not based on
personality but rather on physical and mental traits.
They made assumptions rather

Baseball Ball Monologue
It is a cold grey afternoon with a dull sky and ragged clouds. The last leaf on the tree was finally
blown off by the wind, the leaves crunched beneath your feet as you walk on it. The awful smell of
dried leaves filled the air and out in the distance, the leafless tree s branches wobbled around as the
wind pushed and blow them around. The dark clouds look furious but me and my younger brother,
Allie are happy as hell. We just got a new baseball ball gifted from my older brother, D.B. We start
enjoying and playing some baseball throws. As I take a step and throw the ball, the scarlet and gold
leaves get crunched. The wide ground is lit by some rays, shining through a thin layer of grey cloud
like a stain glass window. I feel giddy with excitement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cluster of panic fills my body when Allie collapses on the spot. I am on my feet, racing towards him.
In the grip of silent panic, wild eyes, heart racing, brain on fire, brain synapses firing like a hyped up
internal aurora borealis, like a cluster bomb exploding in my brain, turning my brain to a mental soup
of conflicting instructions as I race towards him. The panic in my brain increases as the raindrops falls
slowly on his body. Frozen in panic and shrill scream in my brain as I hold Allie s body, as he lay
breathless and still. Gasps, murmurs from the crowd, breaks my panic. Then medics plough through
the crowd and with precision put Allie on oxygen and wheel his motionless body away. It feels as
though walls are closing in on me, as I try to block out the vicious stares of all the phonies in the
crowd. As the ambulance disappears I feel Allie is going far away from me just like those red leaves,
falling from the trees sway gently in the autumn wind. My mother and my father, later, walks towards
me filled with panic and turns to me, demanding an answer to a question I haven t heard over the din
in my ears. I was so damn scared. I search for words that refuse to come, my tongue twisted in

Coming Into The Math Activity Essay
Coming into the math activity, I was expecting the activity to go smoothly. I figured the students
would be able to solve multiplication problems easily and would need very little, if any help. I figured
they would be able to follow instructions. That s exactly what happened for the third graders, but for
the younger ones we had to switch to addition instead of multiplication. Overall, it was a very pleasant
activity and it taught me a lot about how children today are learning when it comes to mathematics.
Kids Count threw us a big curveball when they told us we wouldn t be getting only third graders
because after all, our activity was designed for third graders. We decided to do addition for younger
students instead. For one group, we had to implement that. For another group, we had all third graders
and one second grader. She didn t know multiplication so I had to explain to her that multiplication is
adding up numbers. For a problem like 11x5, we added 11x5 times to get 55. I wanted her to write out
the answer and work it out herself with the whiteboard but I realized I couldn t do that the third
graders were getting antsy and were shouting out the answer when they knew they weren t supposed
to because they were tired of waiting. I knew then I had to I had to write it out while she did the math
either in her head or on her finger and make it easy for her. I would say what s 11+11, she d say 21

To correctly identify the range of a projectile when fired above the horizontal axis with only a meter

Background:
According to Henderson, speed is how far an object travels during a specific amount of time and does
not include the direction. Velocity can be explained as the speed of an object, but also including the
direction the object is heading towards (Henderson, 2015).
Giancoli states that the velocity of an object is taken with the magnitude the numerical value and the
direction of the object (Giancoli, 2009). Therefore, with these two qualities, velocity can be illustrated
as a vector.

The Legacy Of Abraham Lincoln Essay
Abraham Lincoln is a name most commonly associated with our country s Civil War and the abolition
of slavery. When one thinks of this name, one usually envision s his tall, slender physique and that
iconic tall black hat. His face can usually be seen with a look of concern and depth in his eyes. This
man faced not only guiding his country through a state of grave danger, but also terrible tragedies that
would destabilize his personal life. Lincoln would come to lose two of his children (the third died after
Lincoln s assassination), doubt his wife s sanity, and lose his own life. Yet in spite of these personal
struggles, Lincoln immersed himself in his work, and shattered expectations to go down in history as
one of America s greatest presidents.
Lincoln, born in Kentucky, was mostly self educated. Even at a young age, Lincoln was no stranger to
devastation. His mother, Nancy Lincoln, died of milk poisoning when Lincoln was only 9 years old.
This left his sister, Sarah, aged 11, to look after the family. Lincoln s father remarried eventually, and
Abraham took to his stepmother kindly. His sister Sarah died during childbirth in 1828, and greatly
affected him. Some believe that this is when his depression first began to surface. He became engaged
to Mary Todd in 1840. After Lincoln broke off the engagement for unknown reasons, the two
rekindled their relationship and married in 1842. Robert Todd Lincoln was then born in 1843, Edward

Doctrine of Double Effect Essay
Alecia Rhines
Doctrine of Double Effect
Trident University
What is the Doctrine of Double Effect?
The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a
serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is
claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a good
result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the
same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is permissible to bring
about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be impermissible to bring about
intentionally (Uniacke 1984). It is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* The action must be appropriate (a): I also have to give the patient the right medicine. If I give the
patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their
symptoms of vomiting if the drug does not have any effect on vomiting. * The action must be
appropriate (b): I also have to give the patient the right medicine for their symptoms. If I give the
patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their
symptoms of pain if the patient was not suffering from pain but from breathlessness. * The patient
must be in a terminal condition: if I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs and they would
have recovered from their disease or injury if I had not given them the drugs, it is no use saying that
my intention was to relieve their pain. And that applies even if there was no other way of controlling
their pain. (Scanlon 2008).
Scanlon s View on the Doctrine of Double Effect Scanlon explores the ethical significance of the
intentions and motives with which people act. According to Scanlon, these intentions and motives do
not have any direct bearing on the permissibility of the act. Thus, Scanlon claims that the traditional
Doctrine of Double Effect is mistaken. However, the way in which someone is motivated to act has

Importance Of Ethics In Engineering
Engineering and ethics are two things that most may, at first thought, believe have nothing to do with
one another, but in order to be a successful engineer, one must fully understand the ethical
responsibilities that they have. Engineering ethics is the moral principles that an engineer must uphold
throughout their entire career. Engineers have an obligation to themselves and society to understand
these ethical responsibilities and maintain their own ethical values and responsibilities.
Introduction
In order to become a licensed engineer in the United States, an engineer must pass their professional
engineering exam that will test the engineer on a variety of subjects, one of those subjects being
ethics. The National Society of Professional Engineers has adopted and implemented their Code of
Ethics since 1964. The fundamentals of the Code of Ethics state that:
Engineers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall:
1. Hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
2. Perform services only in areas of their competence.
3. Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.
4. Act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees.
5. Avoid deceptive acts.
6. Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor,
reputation, and usefulness of the profession
In summary, an engineer must uphold all responsibilities and perform all duties necessary to maintain
an ethical connection to society that includes but is not limited to the safety and positive welfare of the
public.
Case Studies
Throughout history there has been multiple example of ethics in engineering, both good and bad. The
following case studies are examples of how ethics play an important role in engineering and whether
or not the subjects of discussion acted in an ethical way or not. We will examine the ethical issues
involved in each case and how they impacted society and other in the field of engineering. This will
also include my personal opinion on each case study and what ethical issues I believe are involved in
each case.

A Good Thing Is A Bad Thing By Philip K. Dick
Imagine a world where you can t even walk down a sidewalk without using technology. Author Philip
K. Dick, created a world with fantastic solutions for everyday problems; but too much of a good thing
is a bad thing. In the novel Ubik, author Philip K. Dick suggested that technology is slowly changing
our thoughts and morals to the point that humans can no longer function without it.
What exactly is a moral? According to Google, a moral is a person s standards of behavior or beliefs
concerning what is and what is not acceptable for them to do. In other words it s what a person
believes is the right thing to do; it s what is thought to be what makes you a trustworthy person.

Technology had been created to allow easy access to the drugs by putting them in vending machines.
Looking back on page 67 there s another drug/job connection, When I m at work I function better if I
can get an ergot based psychedelic drug; it causes me to actually see who I am up against and I find
that it helps. These people purposely did drugs to increase their chances of being hired.
Another moral based problem in Ubik are moratoriums. Once a person dies they are frozen and sent to
a moratorium; this is how they preserve their deceased loved ones. The man in charge of the
Moratorium Mr. Runciter visited talked about how great it was. His exact words are found on page 4,
Burial is barbaric, Herbert muttered aloud. Remnant of the primitive origins of our culture. They no
longer view burial as respectful, so they freeze the dead to preserve their thoughts and souls. Not only
do they capture the spirit of the person they keep them until they completely fade away; some stay for
years others fade quickly. The spirit remains on earth until they are released from storage by their
visiting family. Once they fade they are hauled off, Herbert says on page 5 Delivering another half

Essay about The Odyssey as a Hero Journey
All of us have similar experiences. We share in the life journey of growth, development, and
transformation. We live the same stories…the trappings might be different, the twists and turns that
create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may take different
forms, but underneath it all, it s the same story, drawn from the same experiences (Linda Seger,
Creating
Myth, 1).
All people face trials and tribulations throughout their life. Thus, what defines one from one s fellow
human beings is not the trials themselves, but how one overcomes the challenges along the journey, as
well as the psychological and physical lessons one learns from the actions engaged. Heroes, as

For one month Odysseus refuses to leave his safe home in peaceful and bountiful Ithaca. The reader is
not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must assume that he
believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he will receive honor
for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a whim: he is a young king
with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength, he is inexperienced. Thus,
the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the experience and maturity he will gain
fighting the Trojans.
One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The
war represents a first step for
Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his idea
to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they successfully
defeated
Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book
VII, 232 301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it merely
starts him off. Yet he must initially survive the battle, and his survival proves his capacity to undertake
the journey, moving him to the next stage of the Hero
Journey.
The Second stage of the Hero Journey is the most visible. It consists of the trials that

Public Art in the United Arab Emirates
Public art is the art that has been planned to of being staged in public and its usually outdoor, it can be
carved sculpture, cast or built or painted. What s special about public art is the way how it is made, the
place where it is and what meaning it has behind it. Public art can express community value or
describe a cultural related point, and its placed in public for everyone to see. Public art is a reflection
of how the artist sees the world and response to his time and space. In this essay, I want to review
about how the public art reflects the traditional culture.
As an example of public art in the UAE, is the camel caravan. It is a sculpture of a camel that is
painted with colorful different shapes. There is several camels caravan located around the place, and
each of them has a different unique style. I believe that public art should be reflective of traditional
culture. The camel caravan also has a reflection on the cultural side that camels are very common and
a known animal in the UAE. Public art strategies help to uncover and enhance the implied identity, the
value, the unique meaning and the character of the social and physical form of a community or a
society, the community s character and sense of space reflects this identity. The person s sense of
space always develops over time while reflecting the shade of his social values around and within the
community. The character of a community will be reflected by its cultural narrative space of a place.

Innocent Man

By, Oscar Thomas
Novelist, former attorney, and Mississippi legislator, John Grisham, wrote the book entitled Innocent
Man. As a small town lawyer in the South, he experienced many events that provided him with a clear
view of families and communities. For this particular book, however, he gathered research that would

In an era where everyone is so concerned about the money, denying a defendant a reasonable amount
of funding (to his public defender) for expert consultants and their testimonies could save thousands
upon millions of dollars in wrongful prosecution lawsuits later. With the advent of DNA, many
previously convicted men and women are being let out. Interestingly enough, DNA evidence isn t the
ONLY thing that would have exonerated them, but no one would listen. One issue I think Grisham
was trying to help people see is the fact that we should not believe what we THINK, it has to be what
we KNOW. What is the harm in humane treatment? Yes, criminals should be kept from the public, but
since the justice system is not perfect and will make mistakes they shouldn t be so self righteous about
their treatment of those they deem unworthy.

Innovation has become one of the most important issues in modern culture, these days not only in the
context of business and technology but also in environmental and climate changes. The changes in the
environment impacts economies, populations, governments and cultures at a local level (Woerd 2002).
Woerd (2002) also mentions that changes at a local level contribute to changes at a national and global
level. All organisations worldwide are suffering with the environmental impacts that are places on
them, and need to implement changes that are going to be achievable. The success of a business

Among many people, fever is commonplace while sick. This is especially true of pediatric patients
who develop fevers at the slightest indication of infection. 20% of emergency room visits for children
are due to an elevated temperature. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p. 103) A rectal temperature above 100.4°F is
considered to be fever. The preferred method of obtaining an accurate temperature reading is rectally,
as this gives the most precise core temperature reading. In some patients however, rectal thermometry
is contraindicated and an alternative method of measuring their temperature is needed. Not many
alternatives currently exist to give as accurate of a core temperature reading as the rectal thermometer.

determine how sick they were and whether or not they qualified to participate in the study. The tools
for the research, in this case both thermometers, were acquired and implemented. The children s
temperature was then evaluated using both thermometers.
The process in which the data was obtained for the research study was as follows: The rectal
thermometer was inserted and held in place for 15 seconds and was then read. The same trained
person would then use the infrared thermometer in the middle of the forehead immediately after the
rectal temperature was recorded. The infrared thermometer had to be calibrated to the temperature of
the room before using. The people trained to use both thermometers correctly for this study were two
registered nurses, two paramedics and two pediatric emergency physicians. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p.

The results of this research study showed a discrepancy that was too large between the rectal
thermometer and the non contact infrared thermometer. There was a difference of as many as 4°F.

Advantages Of Mergers And Acquisitions
According to Brunsman (1998), Berman (2007), Arrow (1969), there are few main points that can be
highlighted about Mergers and Acquisitions:
A Merger and an Acquisition are two different processes. The results can be similar in the end but the
the ways the both processes work are different;
Mergers or acquisitions are not always successful, sometimes they fail;
Hostile vs. Friendly An acquisition could be labeled hostile or friendly. This just refers to whether
acquired shareholders of the company are on board with the transaction or not. Obviously, if they
welcome, the transaction is friendly and if they oppose the transaction, it is considered hostile. It is
important to remember though that if an acquisition labeled as a hostile, it doesn t necessarily mean
that it will be bad for the future of the company being acquired.
The following can be major benefits of mergers and acquisitions (Bertkovitch, 1993):

of the religious holocaust against African slaves implemented by the whites. As we spoke on the topic,
I couldn t stop myself from thinking that this yet hasn t finished, we are centuries in the future and still
trying to subdue cultures and religions. The religious holocaust against African slaves offers me a new
insight on France s new terror laws and why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to this religious holocaust, we have what is occurring in France against its Muslim residents
and citizens. According to the BBC, a world renown news site, these new laws will legalize the
closing of Mosque across France. It will allow the government to confine people to their hometowns
and ask for them to report daily to their local police station, and finally, it will place security
checkpoints at all main landmarks and popular areas. Though some of this may seem harmless, it isn t.
France has set up laws that would possibly make a practicing Muslim s life near to impossible, harder
than it already is, with all the prejudice against the targeted population. The fear of terrorism will
likely cause millions of civilians their civil rights, identical to the dismay of a mass slave revolt that
almost caused the loss of African traditions and practices in the new world. You may wonder why the
religious holocaust against African slaves is so crucial to the modern world. Part of studying history
and its flaws are learning from past and evolving for a brighter future. France s actions towards its
Muslim population shows regression instead of progression. If they would have some historical
knowledge of similar events and how they played out, I d bet they would handle the issue differently.
In class, we saw how even with the white s aggressive actions to eliminate

The Vietnam War In America
Effects of the Vietnam War in America The Vietnam War is perhaps one of the most unsupported wars
in American history. Perhaps the country s gradual involvement in this war is the reason why. War
usually isn t a good thing, but this time America was not happy about their involvement. The Vietnam
War had a significant effect on the social, economic, and cultural life of America. Initially people in
America were ignorant of the United States involvement in the war or they supported it. People who
supported it did so because they were afraid of communism (Source E). France had to leave Vietnam
because they lost the battle there, and Vietnam was leaning toward becoming communist. In the 1950s
and 1960s Americans thought communism would spread

The Seven Cubs That Make The Lion.
To read a story is one thing, to break a story down to the building blocks and search for the hidden
meaning the author sewed into his work is completely different. The specific type of work we are
looking at during this paper is quest literature, to be more specific we are looking at breaking down
this quest literature work to fill in the the seven archetypes of Joseph Campbell s The Hero s journey .
In C.S.Lewis s work The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe he manages to use all seven archetypes
and while they are not all clearly defined when you break the text apart you can see that more than one
character can fill in for some archetypes. The seven archetypes are all used and some used multiple

There are several mentors in the story, Asland all of which are mentors to the kids. Aslan helps the
kids understand who the are and helps them really grow up and develop as characters. One instance in

Peter. Another mentor was the badger, without him and his wife the kids would have never made it to

Synthetic Food Dyes By Jackie Plum
Synthetic Food Dyes
Jackie Plum
Devry University
When my now six year old son was three, he was very hyperactive. He could not sit still and was
always very emotional. Often, it would take a lot of effort to get him to do anything he was told. There
were several times where he needed to be physically restrained in order to get him to calm down. After
a few episodes at his preschool, one of the administrators suggested that we monitor his diet and
remove synthetic food dyes from it. After 3 days of him not having any food with any synthetic dyes
in it, he was a different child. He was calm, easy to handle, and his teachers said he was a real pleasure

However, 22% of 92 children that are diagnoses with ADHD are wrongly diagnosed (Lilenfield
Arkowitz, 2013). Many of these false diagnoses and other harmful side effects could be avoided if
synthetic food dyes were eliminated from our food and cosmetics. Synthetic food dyes have been
shown to cause hyperactivity in some children; as well as, proven to cause some types of cancers in
rats and/or mice. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should ban the use of all synthetic food
dyes in food and cosmetics
Food dyes are additives that help to give food and other items a more colorful and appealing look.
Originally, food dyes were made out of natural ingredients such as fruit juice, vegetables, and in some
cases, bugs. However, as time went on, other ways to make food dyes were created. Natural food dyes
lead to synthetic coal tar food dyes, and eventually synthetic coal tar food dyes led to petroleum based
synthetic food dyes. Synthetic food dye colors certified for food use are Food Drug and Cosmetic (FD

FD C Red No. 40, FD C Yellow No. 5, and FD C Yellow No. 6 (Kobylewski, 2010). Using just these
nine dyes, there are over 360,000 different color combinations available.
In order for a synthetic food dye to be used, it must first be tested and approved by the Food and Drug

Death In Thief By Zusak
It was very compelling to see Death personified as a human being. The book gave me a different
perspective about Death. Unlike the way I always imagined Death as a Grim Reaper with a long dark
cloak and shear and as serious ghost like who enjoys his job, Zusak presented a completely different
idea. Death had human qualities and emotions. Death once said, I have a heart. Death is the narrator as
well as a guide of story; he works as link between present life and life after death.. He seems like a
poor man. But Death can t be considered a human, as he stated in the end I m haunted by humans
(88.17), he is someone who separate souls from bodies of human beings. It means he can t be a
human. Death is not actually a human but his feelings are related to humanity. ... Show more content

An Interview With Dane Brewer
I had the opportunity to interview Dane Brewer, the former owner of a Utah local business called
Advantech. Dane now lives where I grew up in Moab, Utah. Moab, being a small town everyone is
pretty tight knit and that is how I had the opportunity to talk with Dane on the phone for this project.
Growing up my dad was always a busy business person. I remember ever since I was younger I
wanted to become a business owner just like him. He was a very helpful man with big dreams and
now that I am grown up I see myself in that man day to day.
This memo summarizes the extent knowledge Dane has in entrepreneurship as well as great advice he
provided for me.
Education
In interviewing Dane Brewer he informed me on his education. He graduated from the University of
Utah with a Bachelor s of Science of Electrical Engineering. This degree is not limited to Electrical
work. This degree is all about electricity to power to how to design computers. To complete this
degree Dane spent four years and one summer in school.
The first three years of college Dane worked for Utah Power and Light (Rocky Mountain Power).
While he was working for them he read about a scientist of the name Dr. Thomas Stockum Jr.
Stockum created the first audio recorded and Dane was extremely interested in this because he loved
music. When Dane was a senior he went to the company Stockum was running and practically begged
for a job as a janitor just to get his foot in the door. The

Southern White Supremacy and Black Civil Rights 1863-1877...
Having endured the brutality of slavery and the uncertainty of war, America s blacks enjoyed a period
of relative respite during the years 1863 1877. With slavery abolished, the South underwent
reconstruction within every component of its unsteady structure. However, one must measure the
success of this reconstruction with the criteria of political, social and economic changes in mind. The
amendments of the 1860s gave blacks greater political freedom, but were only upheld by the military
force of the Northern army; blacks developed their first education and religious institutions, but only
within a segregated framework; and economically, the black population worked long, hard hours

During the Reconstruction years of 1863 65, a considerable proportion of blacks occupied several
Deep South governments. In Louisiana, for example, African Americans made up 42% of the lower
and 19% of the upper houses. However, these numbers do not accurately reflect the influence wielded
by blacks in this period. Very few blacks held top positions, and in five Southern states no black
whatsoever held a major office during reconstruction. Furthermore, one must recognise that this
progression came about in an environment of intense pressure, in which any successful blacks were
subject to white violence and widespread animosity. Furthermore, once in the house, the blacks found
that they had far less speaking time and thus far less influence that their white counterparts. This was a
matter of procedure: governmental power is inevitably measured by experience, of which the blacks
had none but it is important to note that the black politicians were operating in an environment that
was far from equal. Thus, one can see that although blacks made considerable progress into politics,
their development was cut short by white activity. Unequal influence inside and violence outside
government ensured that the African American politicians were prevented from working effectively
even in their limited posts. However, the fact that these people even had the remote chance of

Pros And Cons Of The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad and the American Government System The Transcontinental Railroad
is a contiguous network of railroad track that crosses a continental landmass with terminals at different
oceans or continental borders. Construction began in 1863 and concluded in 1868; the tracks stretched
1,776 miles long, connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The idea of building this monumental
rail line was present in America decades before the Pacific Railroad Acts of 1862 authorized the
construction. The Pacific Railroad Acts were passed because at the end of the American Civil War, the
southern Democrats (who opposed the idea) were now absent from Congress; therefore, the

Established in 1842, the US House Senate Committees have looked back at the railroad and used it to
advance the ways and means of transporting goods, supplies, mail, and people. Look at what it has
done; it has served as an artery, moving what is needed throughout the entire nation from the Atlantic
to the Pacific. From giving jobs to those minority groups and once former slaves after the Civil War,
throwing the stock market and economy left and right, assisting Abraham Lincoln in winning elections
and also winning the Civil War, helping rebuild the South and the nation s economy from the bottom

American Government System), serving as one of the best ways of getting mail to citizens across the
US, and expanding intercontinental trade to have its own manifest destiny. This railroad had a

What Does George Santayana Say About History And Human Nature
George Santayana s quote from the novel The Life of Reason, volume 1 explains about history and
human nature. If you do not learn from your mistakes from the past, you will make the same mistakes
again. Progress, far from consisting in change depends on retentiveness. This means in regards to
history that progress does not depend on change but more on the ability to retain from past experience.
When experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Also, In the first stage of life
the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in consecutiveness and
persistence. This two quotes explains the human nature that if you don t learn from your past mistakes,
you will be like savages or live forever

How Did Robert Oppenheimer Impact Society
Looking down across the vast landscape of Japan, massive skyscrapers reaching for the heavens fill
the horizon illustrating the strength and potential of the nation. However, on August 6th, 1945, one
man s invention would bring this powerful nation to its knees. The brilliant mind responsible for the
atomic mushroom cloud that enveloped the city belonged to a lanky, beanstalk looking man from New
York named Julius Robert Oppenheimer, who later became known as the father of the atomic bomb.
Robert Oppenheimer affected society in a positive way through his work in the Manhattan Project
during World War II, his advancements in the world of physics and through establishing some of the
top science research facilities in the country. Robert Oppenheimer, or Oppie to his friends, was an up

Education became his main goal after the Manhattan project. Often times, Oppenheimer s impact on
education gets overlooked because of his influence in the Manhattan project. However, Oppenheimer
was responsible, according to the late Nobel Prize winning physicist Hans Bethe, of creating the
greatest school of theoretical physics that the United States has ever known. By establishing the
graduate program at Berkeley, he engendered opportunities for scientists in America that previously
did not exist. When he came to the Institute for Advanced Study, he did much the same thing (J.
Robert Oppenheimer s Legacy). His influence was so powerful that anywhere the man went,
breakthrough science would follow. The impact he had on education cannot be measured because of
all the different ways he was able to influence science. His colleague said Oppenheimer will leave a
lasting memory in all the scientists who have worked with him, and in all the many who have passed
through his school and whose taste in physics was formed by him. His was a truly brilliant mind (J.

Carl Lewis Views On Track And Field
Carl Lewis said the trials on the road to world harmony are no greater than the courage of those who
accept the challenge . Track and field is a sport which includes athletics in running, jumping, and
throwing. The Smithsonian Museum has a lot of different artifacts, but it holds a very important track
jersey: Carl Lewis . Because of crushing records and maintaining determination, Carl Lewis made an
impact on history when he became one of the best track stars.
Carl worked hard everyday even through the rough time to have success in track and field. A little boy
he took a tape measure and put it in his backyard wondering how could a person jump so far (AAseng,
1985). Even though he just a kid athlete have to work hard everyday and use what they got. Since he
was eight he ran around playing with his family ( Carl Lewis, 2017). As a matter of fact he would
jump and play in sandpit (Jacobs, 2017). He spend long hour running in the yard and jumping around.
Although his parents both were track coaches they build their own track club (Jacobs, 2017). Also
they were Carl Lewis first coaches (Jacobs, 2017). Eventually this gave Carl Lewis lots of time to
practice running and jumping. At first Carl Lewis would always lose one day he when up to his dad
and said I am tired of losing (AAseng, 2017). His dad respond and say either work harder or quit
(AAseng, 2017). Although he was always getting frustrated he never give up and work will hard be to

D Day During The World War II
There are a lot of days throughout the landing on Normandy on June 6th, 1944, to get the Germans out

day because it helped end World War Two . It was the day that had started the chain effect to ending
World war Two, an example of this is on December 16, 1945, the Battle of the Bulge. This was when
the last of Germany s troops went 50 mile across the Allies defences creating what is known as a

But now that Adolf Hitler Germany s chancellor has Poland, Hitler will break that pact in 1941. This
was when Hitler had organized a blitzkrieg on the Soviet Union . That Blitzkrieg was codenamed

barbarossa, he had set the soldiers to the Eastern side of Russia. This was one of the largest military

Poland. Also around september one hundred eighty thousand were captured at Smolensk and
meanwhile five hundred thousand casualties in the Battle of Kiev. The Soviets with the non aggression

Now organizing the Western front was hard that it looked. There was verise obstacles and worries to

dependent on spoken words or that is entirely dependent on spoken words. An oral contract is
enforceable unless its subject matter comes within the statute of frauds, an English Law adopted in the
United States, that requires certain contracts to be in writing. For example, a contract to sell real
property, to be enforceable, must be in writing to comply with the statute. An oral contract to sell

Tom Sawyer Rhetorical Analysis
Humor Uses of Hypocritical in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Mark Twain claimed in his letter to a friend about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: It is not a boy s

Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel about youths, but reviews great truths and philosophy of the

express the humor of the implication of youth s behavior, the ironic religious events, and hypocritical

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Eugenics A lot of people have not heard of Eugenics because of the dark past in the history of not only the United States but also across Europe. What does it mean to have a perfect world? Back in the 1920s they had an idea to create a world that only included a certain idea of whom the best type of people were. This may sound like an interesting idea but the price of our own human decency was taken in which human life did not mean the same for everyone. Most people are unaware of what Eugenics is because it is not a proud point in the United States, so it does not get taught or talked about very often. Eugenics started in the late 1800 s. A man named, Sir Francis Galton was the first person to use the word eugenics. The word eugenics means, the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. (Eugenics) For a while Eugenics was just an idea of how to perfect the human population. The ideas were put into books and then analyzed scientifically, but in a way that was biased and unreliable. The Supreme Court put a law in place called, Buck V. Bell, which supported the obligatory sterilization of people that would be seen as unfit in our society. This law was put in place in the year of 1927 and was reprimanded in 1942. Although in some places it still goes on today illegally. The science of Eugenics was not based on personality but rather on physical and mental traits. They made assumptions rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Baseball Ball Monologue It is a cold grey afternoon with a dull sky and ragged clouds. The last leaf on the tree was finally blown off by the wind, the leaves crunched beneath your feet as you walk on it. The awful smell of dried leaves filled the air and out in the distance, the leafless tree s branches wobbled around as the wind pushed and blow them around. The dark clouds look furious but me and my younger brother, Allie are happy as hell. We just got a new baseball ball gifted from my older brother, D.B. We start enjoying and playing some baseball throws. As I take a step and throw the ball, the scarlet and gold leaves get crunched. The wide ground is lit by some rays, shining through a thin layer of grey cloud like a stain glass window. I feel giddy with excitement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A cluster of panic fills my body when Allie collapses on the spot. I am on my feet, racing towards him. In the grip of silent panic, wild eyes, heart racing, brain on fire, brain synapses firing like a hyped up internal aurora borealis, like a cluster bomb exploding in my brain, turning my brain to a mental soup of conflicting instructions as I race towards him. The panic in my brain increases as the raindrops falls slowly on his body. Frozen in panic and shrill scream in my brain as I hold Allie s body, as he lay breathless and still. Gasps, murmurs from the crowd, breaks my panic. Then medics plough through the crowd and with precision put Allie on oxygen and wheel his motionless body away. It feels as though walls are closing in on me, as I try to block out the vicious stares of all the phonies in the crowd. As the ambulance disappears I feel Allie is going far away from me just like those red leaves, falling from the trees sway gently in the autumn wind. My mother and my father, later, walks towards me filled with panic and turns to me, demanding an answer to a question I haven t heard over the din in my ears. I was so damn scared. I search for words that refuse to come, my tongue twisted in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Coming Into The Math Activity Essay Coming into the math activity, I was expecting the activity to go smoothly. I figured the students would be able to solve multiplication problems easily and would need very little, if any help. I figured they would be able to follow instructions. That s exactly what happened for the third graders, but for the younger ones we had to switch to addition instead of multiplication. Overall, it was a very pleasant activity and it taught me a lot about how children today are learning when it comes to mathematics. Kids Count threw us a big curveball when they told us we wouldn t be getting only third graders because after all, our activity was designed for third graders. We decided to do addition for younger students instead. For one group, we had to implement that. For another group, we had all third graders and one second grader. She didn t know multiplication so I had to explain to her that multiplication is adding up numbers. For a problem like 11x5, we added 11x5 times to get 55. I wanted her to write out the answer and work it out herself with the whiteboard but I realized I couldn t do that the third graders were getting antsy and were shouting out the answer when they knew they weren t supposed to because they were tired of waiting. I knew then I had to I had to write it out while she did the math either in her head or on her finger and make it easy for her. Projectile Lab Report Projectile 2 Lab Report Kelsy Ecclesiastre and Sara Lopez AP Physics 1 Period 6 Objective/Purpose: To correctly identify the range of a projectile when fired above the horizontal axis with only a meter stick (i.e. no timer). Background: According to Henderson, speed is how far an object travels during a specific amount of time and does not include the direction. Velocity can be explained as the speed of an object, but also including the direction the object is heading towards (Henderson, 2015). Giancoli states that the velocity of an object is taken with the magnitude the numerical value and the direction of the object (Giancoli, 2009). Therefore, with these two qualities, velocity can be illustrated as a vector. Acceleration occurs when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. The Legacy Of Abraham Lincoln Essay Abraham Lincoln is a name most commonly associated with our country s Civil War and the abolition of slavery. When one thinks of this name, one usually envision s his tall, slender physique and that iconic tall black hat. His face can usually be seen with a look of concern and depth in his eyes. This man faced not only guiding his country through a state of grave danger, but also terrible tragedies that would destabilize his personal life. Lincoln would come to lose two of his children (the third died after Lincoln s assassination), doubt his wife s sanity, and lose his own life. Yet in spite of these personal struggles, Lincoln immersed himself in his work, and shattered expectations to go down in history as one of America s greatest presidents. Lincoln, born in Kentucky, was mostly self educated. Even at a young age, Lincoln was no stranger to devastation. His mother, Nancy Lincoln, died of milk poisoning when Lincoln was only 9 years old. This left his sister, Sarah, aged 11, to look after the family. Lincoln s father remarried eventually, and Abraham took to his stepmother kindly. His sister Sarah died during childbirth in 1828, and greatly affected him. Some believe that this is when his depression first began to surface. He became engaged to Mary Todd in 1840. After Lincoln broke off the engagement for unknown reasons, the two rekindled their relationship and married in 1842. Robert Todd Lincoln was then born in 1843, Edward Baker Lincoln (called ... • 9. Doctrine of Double Effect Essay Alecia Rhines Doctrine of Double Effect Trident University What is the Doctrine of Double Effect? The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is permissible to bring about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be impermissible to bring about intentionally (Uniacke 1984). If I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their symptoms of vomiting if the drug does not have any effect on vomiting. * The action must be appropriate (b): I also have to give the patient the right medicine for their symptoms. If I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their symptoms of pain if the patient was not suffering from pain but from breathlessness. * The patient must be in a terminal condition: if I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs and they would have recovered from their disease or injury if I had not given them the drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their pain. And that applies even if there was no other way of controlling their pain. (Scanlon 2008). Scanlon s View on the Doctrine of Double Effect Scanlon explores the ethical significance of the intentions and motives with which people act. According to Scanlon, these intentions and motives do not have any direct bearing on the permissibility of the act. Thus, Scanlon claims that the traditional Doctrine of Double Effect is mistaken. • 10. Importance Of Ethics In Engineering Engineering and ethics are two things that most may, at first thought, believe have nothing to do with one another, but in order to be a successful engineer, one must fully understand the ethical responsibilities that they have. Engineering ethics is the moral principles that an engineer must uphold throughout their entire career. Engineers have an obligation to themselves and society to understand these ethical responsibilities and maintain their own ethical values and responsibilities. Introduction In order to become a licensed engineer in the United States, an engineer must pass their professional engineering exam that will test the engineer on a variety of subjects, one of those subjects being ethics. The National Society of Professional Engineers has adopted and implemented their Code of Ethics since 1964. The fundamentals of the Code of Ethics state that: Engineers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall: 1. Hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public. 2. Perform services only in areas of their competence. 3. Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner. 4. Act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees. 5. Avoid deceptive acts. 6. Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor, reputation, and usefulness of the profession In summary, an engineer must uphold all responsibilities and perform all duties necessary to maintain an ethical connection to society that includes but is not limited to the safety and positive welfare of the public. Case Studies Throughout history there has been multiple example of ethics in engineering, both good and bad. The following case studies are examples of how ethics play an important role in engineering and whether or not the subjects of discussion acted in an ethical way or not. We will examine the ethical issues involved in each case and how they impacted society and other in the field of engineering. Dick, created a world with fantastic solutions for everyday problems; but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. In the novel Ubik, author Philip K. Dick suggested that technology is slowly changing our thoughts and morals to the point that humans can no longer function without it. What exactly is a moral? According to Google, a moral is a person s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and what is not acceptable for them to do. In other words it s what a person believes is the right thing to do; it s what is thought to be what makes you a trustworthy person. We live the same stories…the trappings might be different, the twists and turns that create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may take different forms, but underneath it all, it s the same story, drawn from the same experiences (Linda Seger, Creating Myth, 1). The reader is not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must assume that he believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he will receive honor for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a whim: he is a young king with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength, he is inexperienced. Thus, the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the experience and maturity he will gain fighting the Trojans. One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The war represents a first step for Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his idea to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they successfully defeated Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book VII, 232 301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it merely starts him off. Public art can express community value or describe a cultural related point, and its placed in public for everyone to see. Public art is a reflection of how the artist sees the world and response to his time and space. In this essay, I want to review about how the public art reflects the traditional culture. As an example of public art in the UAE, is the camel caravan. It is a sculpture of a camel that is painted with colorful different shapes. There is several camels caravan located around the place, and each of them has a different unique style. I believe that public art should be reflective of traditional culture.
