Hans Use Of Political And Social Themes
Hans Haacke has been characterized as among some of the most revolutionary and
controversial contemporary and conceptual artists of all time. Haacke s works are
generally simply constructed yet exquisitely permeated with depth and importance
through his integration of social, political, and environmental issues in his pieces that
give them a voice they would otherwise lack. In the following essay, we will seek to
understand just how Hans Haackes use of political and social themes causes his
work to resonate with audiences on the scale it has done. When gazing upon the
vast expanse of art history, it becomes evident that the greatest and most
influentially revolutionary individuals are not those that dabble in the popular and
well studied styles of old. Those who are great flee from average and explore
uncharted new territories. The individuals that choose to really set themselves apart
from the rest of art culture are those who branch out in totally new directions. Those
who delve into new ideas and new ways of expressing themselves through mediums
and styles few have trodden upon. Hans Haacke has cemented himself in history as
one of these influential and revolutionary individuals. His pioneering work of a
conceptual nature was unparalleled and unmatched by his competitors at its
conception. Hans Haacke was born August 12, 1936 in the little town of Cologne,
Germany. Before he started formal education, he was part of an global organization

Figure. 7. Effect of pH solution of feed phase on the removal efficiency of citric acid
Transport conditions: Feed phase: citric acid 10 2 M, pH 2 12. Stripping phase:
deionized water, pH=6.8. Membrane: 12.60 cm2 of surface area,
Calix[4]resorcinarene (0.15 g/g mixture of polymers), 0.03 ml 2 NPOE/g mixture of
polymers. Values obtained after 5 days of experimentation.
3.8 Stability of PIMs
In this study, one PIM was reused, whereas the feed and strip phases were replaced
after one cycle with fresh ones in 5 experiments and each experiment lasted from 4
days. As observed in Fig. 8. The initial flux of PIM shows a gradual decrease with
increasing of cycle s reuse, which may be caused by the loss of carrier from

Conclusion
In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied
for the removal of citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA
was found to be the optimum base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid.
Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of
feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of citric acid
transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated
calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction
abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle.
Choosing the appropriate length of alkyl chain, very selective system can be
designed. The excellent efficiency for the citric acid transport by the proposed PIM
system reveals its potential application for the selective removal, concentration and
purification of citric acid from different media.

Greaves Brewery: Bottle Replenishment Case Analysis
Case Synopsis
The following is an analysis of the case, Greaves Brewery: Bottle Replenishment. It
details the growing beer operation of Greaves Brewery located in the Caribbean
island of Trinidad. The purchasing manager for the company, Alex Benson, is
uncertain about how many bottles to order from the company s German glass
supplier. His decision is complicated by the possibility of a new bottle design being
introduced that would compromise his existing inventory of bottles. Additionally, he
is faced with storage limitations and erratic sales, all of which are impacting his
decision. He is also concerned about over ordering to avoid issues from an ... Show

Data Analysis to Support Decision
According to the case, prior to the implementation of the Trinidadian s government
excise taxes, Greaves Brewery was showing signs of growth (Erskine, Leenders
amp; Piper, 2004). To show growth trends, a Time Series graph was run from 1999
to 2004. However, the purpose of the case is to determine the quantity of bottles that
Greaves needs to purchase based on a sales forecast for 2004. Greaves provided five
years and two months of annual sales data. Using Stat Tools, the following analysis
were run: Moving Average, Exponential SmoothingSimple, Exponential Smoothing
Holt s, and Exponential Smoothing Winter s. Following a comparison on the
average on all models, the Exponential Smoothing Winter s was found to be the
most suitable model for the case. A graph analysis is captured below. StatTools

One of its first contributions after becoming independent was its global Civil
Rights Movement. From the sixties onwards, a black activist named Marcus
Garvey impacted this movement through his philosophical ideas. In the article 10
things Jamaica has contributed to the World it states, Garvey s ideas also had a
huge influence on the views of American civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther
King and Malcolm X who fought for equality for blacks in America and across the
world. Garvey s political actions and beliefs gave rise to social movements of
activism around the world. (quote 1) As his ideas have led to additional
advancements in the Civil Rights Movement, he has also inspired another
movement known as the Rastafari Movement. This was a religion based
movement that began in the 1930s. It is most associated with the colors of the
Ethiopian flag and dreadlock hairstyles. It also supports the use of marijuana as it
considered sacred. Another contribution that Jamaica has made to the rest of the
world is a musical style known as reggae. This new form of music was introduced
during the 1960s and is based on everyday life experiences. It led to the global
movement for equality, peace, and justice. In the article The Rise of Reggae and
the influence of Toots and the Maytals it states, Reggae music has been used as
inspiration for many third world liberation movements. An example of reggae being
an inspiration to other countries include a group of Chinese students singing a
reggae song as they marched for demonstration purposes. Another way it has
affected other countries was during 1989 when the Berlin wall was falling. Many
people in Berlin came together and sung a reggae song called, Three Little Birds.
This form of music has unified many parts of the world, especially during menacing
The 1986 West End Production
Chess
Jarrett Winters Morley
(For the purposes of this essay, I will be focusing on the 1986 West End production
instead of the 1988 Broadway production.)
Chess is an original musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus,
with book and lyrics by Tim Rice. The story follows an unexpected relationship
between a Soviet chess grandmaster and a woman who manages his opponent during
the World Chess Match in Bangkok, Thailand. The significance of the World Chess
match in this story is tremendous because it takes place during the climax of the
Cold War, and the two adversaries whom are to face each other are from America
and the U.S.S.R, and each country wants their grandmaster to win for propaganda
purposes. The main characters in the story are not representations of real people, but
are thought to hold their roots in Bobby Fischer, one of the greatest American chess
grandmasters of all time and former World Champion, and Anatoly Karpov, one of
the greatest Russian chess grandmaster and former World Champion.
Chess was first released as an album in 1984 before any stage productions were
attempted, partly to raise the money and to see how the music would fair. On May
14th, 1986, it opened as a stage production at London s West End at the Prince
Edward Theatre and ran for three years. Two years later, it opened on Broadway,
and flopped after a run of two months. The show received extremely varied reactions,
ranging from far too long to eclectic and stirring .
Crime Bail Research Paper
When a person has been arrested, it can help to learn all about the process for

frightening for everyone involved from the person who was arrested to their loved
ones.
What is Bail?
When officials talk about bail, they are referring to the money the defendent or
loved one pays to get the arrested person released from jail. A defendent who is
released from jail has to return for all court appearances. The bail is used as an
incentive to ensure the person returns for those court dates in the future.
Bail might be denied in some cases depending on the details of the crime as well as
the person s history. If they ve been released on bail and not returned for their court ...

The Effects of Falling Gas Prices on Operation Management Decision Making
Dylan Knight
Robert Morris University
Abstract This paper briefly takes a look at how the price of gas has changed over
the past ten years and what has caused the drop in fuel prices within the past few
years. It then looks at the fuel price s effect on business operation through the eyes
of the Operations Manager and the key aspects in decision making that they have to
consider when the gas prices fall, like they have recently. I then give you an idea of
how the falling prices effect the Apartment Management industry and the operations
involved in renting and renovating apartments.

The one downfall of the increased production here in the United States is the
drilling has slowed down drastically leaving many oil workers without a job and
forcing some companies out of business. (Krauss) Another cause of the gas prices
dropping, according to an article on CNN, is the economic slowdown of the
Chinese economy. They also mentioned the increased production in the United
States and finally the tentative nuclear deal which would make their oil more
readily available to our country. In the article they also predicted that by the time
football season came around that tens of thousands of gas stations across the
country will be below the $2 a gallon mark. (Isidore) Even though we have seen it
come close here in Pennsylvania, it has not gone below $2 here in the greater
Pittsburgh area. A few times that I have been home in Ohio I have seen it drop
below $2 but it ultimately just depends on which area you are in. With winter
quickly approaching gas prices are expected to continue to drop as stations mix a less
expensive blend of gas for the winter months. (Isidore) So it is a possibility that we
could see prices here in the Pittsburgh area fall to the $2 a gallon area. If I were
placed as the Operations Manager in any industry gas prices play a huge factor in

Rite of Passage (1983) Sharon Olds
As the guests arrive at my son s partythey gather in the living room short men, men in
first grade with smooth jaws and chins.
Hands in pockets, they stand around jostling, jockeying for place, small fights
breaking out and calming. One says to another
How old are you? Six. I m seven. So?
They eye each other, seeing themselves tiny in the other s pupils. They clear their
throats a lot, a room of small bankers, they fold their arms and frown. I could beat
you up, a seven says to a six, the dark cake, round and heavy as a turret, behind them

balsa keel of a model boat, long handscool and thin as the day they guided him out of
me, speaks up as a host for the sake of the group.
We could easily kill a two year old, he says in his clear voice. The other men agree,
they clear their throats like Generals, they relax and get down to playing war,

Descriptive Essay About Makeup
Women have been wearing makeup for years. Throughout the years, I transform
myself into celebrities I look up too. To transform into a character, I need the proper
makeup tools to help me look like Angelina Jolie. The tools I need are makeup
brushes: contour brush, eyeshadow brush, angled eyeliner brush. Transforming my
face into a well known celebrity challenges my skills. To transform my face, I see
my characteristics are similar to Angelina Jolie. I identify my face to see if the
transformation is possible. I need defined cheeks because Angelina Jolie s cheek
bones is her most prominent feature. The cheeks must be high and well defined.
Defining the cheeks, I choose a medium brown shade of eyeshadow or bronzer.
The forehead is the second most important feature to create. Angelina Jolie has a
long, narrow forehead, as mine is wide. Having the medium brown shadow on my
temples it creates shadows. I create the illusion of a long forehead. After
identifying my features, I am ready to start my transformation. The alterations for
my face will take time to prefect. It will take an hour or longer to do. I might have
to attempt the look a few times until I get it right. When I perfect the look, I am
ready to start. Next, I clean my face to have a clean canvas. Then moisturize my
face so the makeup does not look cakey. Now time to collect my makeup supplies.
The conversion of my face is ready to perceive.
The figuration is ready to start. I have the right makeup choices to
Billy Elliot Transition
Barriers are guaranteed when individuals venture into new transitions. However, these
transitional periods significantly impact one s understanding, often leading to
unexpected outcomes that can include otherwise hidden rewards. In Stephen Daldry s
2000 film Billy Elliot and Sylvia Plath s semi autobiographical poem Morning Song,
both texts explore the transformative power of obstacles, driven through
determination, which encourage viewers that obstacles are only temporary. Through
encouragement during transitional periods, individuals may achieve inner growth
while simultaneously motivating the growth of others. This is seen through the

Billy s determination is shown through the juxtaposing movements and camera
angles of the opening and last scene of the film. In the opening scene of the film
we are shown Billy jumping and dancing along with the non diegetic sound of
Cosmic Dancer by T.Rex. The lyrics I danced myself right out of the womb,
foreshadows Billy s destiny and desire to dance which is conflicted towards the
expectations of his father. Through the use of a close ups and slow motion it
allows the audience see Billy s lively facial expressions, highlighting his innocence.
This is juxtaposed to his sharp and precise movements shown in the final scene
through close ups and worm eye view, signifying Billy s dominance and power,
which he initially lacked. Daldry s use of a extreme close up shot displays Jackie
overwhelmed and teary, represents how proud he is towards Billy s perseverance
and shows that he is embracing a more feminine side which he initially rejected. As
Billy enters the stage and leaps into the air he is situated under the spotlight and
dominates the screen, symbolising his successful transition into the world of ballet
and _______. The leap is transitioned to the a dull yellow wallpaper, which is
shown in the opening scene of the film. The floral wallpaper is symbolic of Billy s
search for happiness, which he eventually discovers comes from dancing.
Intertextuality of Swan Lake
The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare
Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with
gender stereotypes. Through changes to appearance and personality, characters
disguise themselves to fit in with the opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that
because the characters are female, they do not have the appropriate power they need
for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve that power, they are
still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power does
not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so
she can be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a
man in order to find her brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also
dresses as a man to travel to Milan and visit Proteus. Both of these women find
themselves in challenging situations, who use unique strategies in order to cope and
subtly opposing genderroles.
Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been
translated to many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not
only do his plays continue to stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and
reinterpreted through different cultures around the worlds. His plays hold many
stereotypes of men and women in their roles in society, but he also questions,
challenges and changes those representations. He allows female characters to struggle
within and against social expectations so they, like

Actually, exporting rate is low; it have to see the internal strategic and external

this would be the significant change. In an external way, the extension of the

Argumentative Essay On Population Control
Population control is a policy of attempting to limit the growth in numbers of a
population (dictionary.com). Kurt Vonnegut writes about a time when the United
States population is stable at forty million people. In order for them to stay at the
same amount of people they take a life for every new life. A situation as the one
illustrated in the story would bring out humaninstincts in a negative way. That is
why this form of population control is a horrible idea because as humans we have
the instinct to do all we can for those we love and to survive. In all reality, the
universehas its own natural way of controlling the population and that s all that we
need. As humans our basic human naturetells us to do all we can for those we love. It
is instinct for a parent to protect their child at all cost. It was no shock when
Vonnegut states, Wehling shot Dr. Hitz... then he shot Leora Duncan (Vonnegut).
Its hard to say Mr. Wehling s response in the story is completely normal. However,
to a certain extent it is because both Leora and Hitz would be the reason his triplets
couldn t live. He didn t have anyone else that would volunteer. That of course doesn
t make what he did right but for him he was protecting his child. Another thing that
plays into our natural human instinct is often the people we love can do no wrong
in our eyes. Think about if your spouse cheats it is sometimes easy to forgive them
because of all the other amazing things that have done. Lastly, we will do whatever
it takes to make those that mean the most to us happy. That s why the grandfather
in the story offered to go the Ethical Suicide Studio . He wanted his grandson to
have the life he always wanted by having children. He wouldn t just choose to do
this for his grandson unless he believed that it would make him happy. Wehling
even says, All I have to do is pick which one of the triplets is going to live, then
deliver my maternal grandfather to the Happy Hooligan, (Vonnegut). Do we really
think he wanted to see his grandfather go? No would be many people answers, he
simply thinks about letting it happen because he believes it will make his wife
happy to keep all of her children. Doing all we can for those we love includes

Foundationalism In William Shakespear s Much Ado
About...
The word Foundationalism was given a clear definition by Descartes, meaning
someone looking for a clear and certain foundation. There is a way to accomplish
this task, meaning order to find or build a foundation or a base that is certain, one
must first destroy everything one believes to know start from the very beginning. The
goal is to find things that are absolute indubitable , meaning it is 100 percent certain
or it can not under any circumstances be doubted (Descartes 13). The play Much ado
about nothingwritten by William Shakespear would not be the first thing that comes
to mind when considering anything being indubitable. It is entails clear social and
genderissues of its time. With this essay, I wish to point out how the men boast
themselves in so much honor and masculinity, that they are easily blinded by a
simple lie. So simple in fact, that it took an entire plot built on Hero s death to
reveal the truth. If a woman s mind, body and soul were more valuable, there would
have been no need to lie and deceive once more to prove Hero s innocence. This is
important, because women are still judged more harshly for being involved with a
man before marriage, or having multiple partners. While men can marry after being
known to be very far from celibacy themselves, but wish to have a virgin or a
woman with fewer and closer to zero sexual partners. This misogynistic double
standard was carried into the movie by Kenneth Branagh. In this case, first I would
like to look

so that society functions as a whole. Every part has a role that is necessary for the
good of the overall functioning of that society. Society is connected by a social
consensus which is an agreed upon set of guidelines for the society. This theory
strives for equilibrium and promotes stability and solidarity. It believes that social
stability is necessary to have a strong society.
The Social Conflict theory is a macro oriented theory that views social life as a
competition for limited resources. This theory sees society as a competition among
individuals for social, political, and material resources. Examples of these resources
include political power, housing, leisure time, and money. The social conflict theory
sees the inequality in society and is constantly undergoing change. This theory
believes that the wealthy or elite controls the poor and weak, which benefits the
wealthy at the expense of the poor. It believes that far reaching change is necessary
to eliminate social inequality. The social conflict theory emphasizes that the
powerful groups use their power to take advantage of the groups or individuals with
less power. Social conflict theory shows how factors such as age, race, class, and sex

Comparing and Contrasting the Movie and Natalie Babbitt

Do you know a book called Tuck Everlasting which is written by Natalie Babbitt
existed in this world? It is a very interesting novel with a very sad ending. It s a
story about a girl, who discovered a very dangerous secret about a particular spring
water. When you drink the water, it makes you immortal. A movie on this book was
produced later on. Things change when you have to audition something that is
written. And so, the movie Tuck Everlastingwas very different from the book Tuck
Everlasting. Winnie Foster, a ten year old girl, discovered a very dangerous secret
about the springwater in the woods her parents owned. She found out that if the
spring water is drunk, it makes one immortal. Winnie didn t understand what it was

Soon, they became deeply in love with each other and they kissed nearby a
crackling fire. Winnie was a little girl in the book so, of course, she didn t kiss
Jesse. Even though the two liked each other, Winnie, unfortunately, didn t want to
live forever like Jesse so she chose the right way for her. Jesse was very sad in both
the movie and the book. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking the spring water (which
was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and took her
away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie
away on his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn t
carry four people and run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like
that, some of the parts in the book are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean
in the movie. He s always angry at something and he s very moody. Miles was a very
grumpy person, maybe because he is a married man, when he turned immortal. His
wife sensed something fishy about the Tucks family and moved out of their
household. His wife and children died as time passed by, and he was left behind. He
must feel very sad. So he took a role of a big brother and tried to abandon Jesse from
liking Winnie. He didn t want his brother to feel the way he feels if Winnie died, or
maybe it was just plain jealously because Jesse got to be in love with a girl and he
did not. A man in the yellow suit was doing a little research on

Cell Phone Use And Inattentional Blindness
Cell phones have become increasingly prevalent in modern life. At the same time,
they bring the possibility of many distractions. These types of distractions can be
potentially dangerous and even deadly (i.e. texting and driving) and can lead to
experiencing inattentional blindness (failure to see unexpected/unusual stimulus in
plain sight). Text messaging has been found to affect a person s natural walk
(Lamberg Muratori , 2012), showing that they can be very inhibiting for a
pedestrian. Thus, cell phone use while crossing the street could be very dangerous
because of not noticing surroundings (cars, people, etc.), traffic cues (stop lights,
signs, etc.), and the possibility of walking off the designated path such as a cross
walk. Although there have been studies looking at cell phone use and the effects of
it on attention, they mostly focus on how it has impacted drivers and pedestrians as
a whole, without differentiating types of people it could potentially effect. Having
information on the type of person to experience inattentional blindness because of
cell phone use could lead to better ways in improving people s overall safety and
awareness and decrease the amount of vehicle related deaths. Cell phone use has been
shown to be positively correlated with inattentional blindness. Schwebel et al. (2012),
discovered that pedestrians who are distracted by their phone through either texting
or music did not look at the street environment while waiting to cross the
The Movie Platoon
I m writing about four films, Platoon by Oliver Stone, Drone by Robert Glickert,
Donnie Darko by Richard Kelly, and finally Saving Private Ryan by Steven
Spielberg. These four films all fit into the theme, which is the blurring of morality.
This theme relates to these movies though revenge, drug use, and questionable
orders made by people in command. I will first be discussing how revenge fits into
the theme. I have purposely chosen to talk about revenge first because I believe
that more can be learnt from drug use or questionable orders. After discussing
revenge I will then talk about drug use and finally discuss how questionable orders
fits into the theme. I believe that we can learn the most from questionable orders,
making it the most important. One of the main links between the films Platoon
and Drone is how people, or is this case soldiers, seek revenge against their enemy.
In Platoon this greed for revenge is shown when U.S. marines discover a village
with, enough rice to feed an entire regiment, of North Vietnamese soldiers. With this
information some U.S. soldiers can t see anything wrong with raping and violently
assaulting members of the new enemy village. This is where the blurring of
morality comes into effect in Platoon, some U.S. soldiers feel it s okay to now treat
villages like animals, just because they were caught helping the North Vietnamese. In
Drone this greed for revenge is shown when a U.S. commander orders soldiers in the
field to execute
The Role of Information Security Policy
The Role of Information Security Policy
The Role of Information Security Policy The failure of organizations to implement a
comprehensive and robust information security program can mean the untimely
demise for some and costly setbacks for others. At the heart of information security is
security policy. Without security policy there can be no security program. Without
people, security policies would not exist. They would not be written, implemented,
and enforced. Security policies and the adoption of standards provide many benefits
as shall be discussed in this paper. Further is discussed how information in systems
often falls under different classifications to reflect a degree of sensitivity and how

In the eyes of customers, failure to protect their information is a violation of trust.
Responsible parties will have their reputations diminished and be held accountable for
damages or loss.
A kind of benchmarking is following the recommended practices of other
organizations or industry standards (Conklin et al, 2012 Security Management
Models ). In this way organizations can adopt practices that are already proven to
work. Federal regulations give the push some organizations need to implement and
maintain adequate information security control levels. Mandatory audits help keep
these organizations honest and in compliance.
2.0 The Role of Employees in Policy Security policy comes down from the top. The
enterprise information security policy (EISP) is a high level document drafted by the
chief information security officer (CISO) in consultation with the chief information
officer (CIO) and other executives (Conklin et al, 2012, Information Security Policy
). Security information policy, however, has an effect on everyone in the
organization. Policies have to be uniformly applied to be effective. If management
fails to support policy, the policy is typically ignored. Employees often try to
circumvent policy. People are generally resistant to rules and regulations that tell
them what to do. The role of security education, training and awareness (SETA) is
important
Understanding A Problem And Defining The Real Problem
Understanding a problem and defining the real problem is a skill that can be applied
to many facets of life. In the workplace it is common place to have management not
understand their employees and in turn create a negative work environment. For
example, a labor crew may have years of combined experience, but it is
understandable that an inexperienced educated person might be placed in a
managementrole above the laborers. Without truly understandingthe environmentthe
laborers deal with, the inexperienced manager might see labor practices that are not
fully understood and find fault with those practices despite the years of experience
that went into the particular practice. (Modic, 1988) presents five tenets management
can use to better manage people. The relationship between management and
employee was studied to determine these five tenets and how they can resolve the
root of work evil.
The first tenet of people management according to (Modic, 1988) is, Focus on
performance, not personality. Modic goes on to explain, This provides a dialog that
can address performance improvement. (p. 1). The second tenet ties into the first
tenet of focusing on performance by providing a way to measure the performance.
Modic says, Provide a base line against which to measure later results, a key element
in the change process. (p. 1). The first two tenets are being used to focus on a
measureable component of an employee s performance rather than intangibles such
as personality. By
Informative Speech About Jeepneys

to its history, importance in transportation and role in Filipino identity
Introduction
Recently, my friend heard about this Filipino restaurant called Jeepney in the East

She invited me to eat there with her.
However, I am here not to promote the Jeepney Restaurant but, rather, to discuss
jeepneys as a primary mode of transportation in the Philippines. (*)
Growing up in the Philippines, I am very familiar with the jeepneys, and in addition
to that, I also read various articles online.

According to Mega Manila Public Transport Study, on page 7, on Department of
Transportation and Communications in the Philippines, as of 2006, there are 48,366
jeepneys in Metro Manila, while there are only 2,944 busses.
In other words, there is over 16 times more jeepneys than busses in Metro Manila.
(However, jeepneys are not found only in the capital.)
Jeepneys are common transportation in suburban areas too.
For instance, in Tarlac, the province where I grew up, I use jeepneys for my daily
activities.
I used in a jeepney countless times to go to school, mall, church or any other local
destination, because it is cheaper than having my dad drive me.
I remember seeing jeepneys after jeepneys throughout the day, so I never had to
worry about missing my ride on my way to school.
(Whether I am in the capital city or suburban location, jeepneys are used for similar
travels.)
It is primarily used for local and short travel.
For example, jeepneys are used to travel distance like from Baruch Campus to
Central Park.
Because it is open window and ventilated in a tropical country, jeepneys are not

Throughout Hawthorne s anecdote we witness how sin changes the sinners. It
darkens their vision and weakens their moral defenses against further temptation.
The powerful theme of sin is echoed continually throughout the whole of the novel, in
actual fact it plays the main theme throughout. Sin in my words would be the
intentional or even the unintentional breaking of divine or moral law and indeed in
this novel this meaning is shared with the grim Puritans in their iron period . The
iron visaged Puritans were obsessed with their faith and religion and their laws
covered just about every aspect of life and if rebelled against punishment was their
only answer as during this time any secrets amongst its people was forbidden thus
explaining the transaction of punishment of the scarlet letter for Hester.
Not only does Hawthorne present many powerful themes throughout his novel but he
uses a lot of powerful symbolism throughout as well. The main symbol, of course,
being that of the scarlet letter. Hawthorne uses fantastic language to describe the
scarlet letter:
An elaborate embroidery and fantastic flourishes of gold thread appeared the letter A .
It is funny to note that note once does Hawthorne himself describe the scarlet letter
himself as something we would perceive
California s Right to Know Act
California Right to Know Act: Time Newspaper has learnt that it s not surprising that
Internet companies have electronic dossiers that contain personal information for
individuals who subscribe to the websites. Generally, these companies have obtained
the information from people based on individual s visit to the website, sent and
received emails, tagged photos, and searches people carry out. However, the extent of
personal information known by these Internet companies has remained largely
unknown as well who they provide and/or sell this information to. However, Internet
companies continue to gather lots of personal information from different people who
focus on carrying out online activities on a daily basis. Currently, it s estimated that
these firms gather personal information from nearly 500 million users but are hesitant
to provide this information to the other firms or individuals. As their unwillingness to
share has attracted significant congressional inquiry, things could finally change in
California following the introduction of a bill that may force companies to disclose
the kind of personal information they have gathered and how this information is

and the use of that information (Cohen, 2013). The introduction
Examples Of Friendship In Julius Caesar
A utopian idea exists of the unbreakable and unfailing bond between close friends.
Such is the case in the tale of Damon and Pythias by Aristoxenus. These men had a
strong bond, and they trusted each other, even in the face of death. Their example
caused the idea of true friendship to be emulated, encompassed, and engineered by
this tale. True friendshipis a priceless treasure; true friendship is unconditional. In
Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar, the characters of Brutus and Cassius appear to
have a good relationship, and some go as far as to say that these men were true
friends with a secure bond, like Damon and Pythias. Sadly, this is incorrect. Brutus
and Cassius relationship was superficial and weak, upon it was an uneven bond
generated between the two men.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first act, Cassius wants Brutus to join the conspiracy, but instead of outright
saying it, he beat around the bush for several minutes. First he speaks of Caesar s
mortality: He had a fever when he was in Spain...How he did shake (Act l.Scene
ii.119, 121). Then Cassius says Brutus and Caesar: what should be in that Caesar ?
/ Why should that name be sounded more than yours? /...Upon what meat doth this
our Caesar feed, / That he is grown so great? Age, thou art shamed! / (Act l.Scene
ii.142 143, 149 150). Cassius feels the need to keep his real intent from Brutus; he
feels the need to manipulate his friend in order to get Brutus support. If Brutus and
Cassius were really as close as many presume, then Cassius would have been straight
forward with Brutus, instead, he had to tread lightly around his
Who Is The Greek Beast Cerberus The Protector Of
Capitalism
We live in a world controlled by an invisible yet very present force that shapes the
way we live our daily lives. With industry as its host and technology as the blood
being pumped into its heart, it is a force powerful enough to bend politics to fit its
needs. Capitalism; a method of industry where production and distribution are
privately or corporately owned, its operation grows through profits, exploitation of
labor, and extinguishing competition. During the Industrial Revolutiontechnology was
on the global stage. Factories and machines are built in existing cities producing
and distributing mass goods on a global scale. Over time this fast production of
goods would replace the old agricultural economy to a modern urban economy.

This is evident today in New York City, where gentrification is forcing homeowners

because of their trade ports, financial services, etc. Dense cities seize this opportunity
by using prime locations, newly renovated spaces, and increased rent to get the most
bang for their buck. While invisible actors of major corporations continue to exploit
labor and extinguish competition religiously for profit, technology embodies

protecting the realm of Hades from intruders. In the similar sense technology is

Dunstan bluntly states that Percy was materialistic:
To him the reality was of life lay in external things, whereas for me the only reality
was of the spirit of mind. (Page 114)
Dunstan is in a search for inner truth and spirituality, and Percy is searching for outer
beauty and appearances.
amp;#9;Another way in which the two contrast is that while Dunstan leaves a lot of
events in his life up to chance, Percy wants everyone, and everything in control in
his control. When Percy wants Dunstan to develop some nude pictures of Leola,
Dunstan makes the comparison of himself and Percy to the myth of King Candaules
and Gyges. There were two possible endings to the myth one being that Percy would
lose Leola to Dunstan. This is shown when Leola later tries to seduce Dunstan at a
Christmas party.
amp;#9;Although Dunstan and Percy are very much opposites throughout the novel,
there is one area in which they are both the same neither one of them is able to form
warm, lasting human relationships. At the beginning of their marriage, Percy is
unable to be faithful to Leola, but claims that since he quot;still loves her, the
encounters with the other ladies didn t really count. quot; Percy is still unable to be
faithful to Leola later on in their marriage, due to his failing efforts to bring up to

The Leadership Theory Of Servant Leadership
Servant leadership is a leadership theory that originated from the works of Robert
Greenleaf in the early 1970s (Northouse, 2016). According to the Robert K. Greenleaf
Center for Servant Leadership (2016), Greenleaf was not the first person to create the
idea of serving others through leadership, but he does hold the responsibility of
coining the term, and applying it to the modern world. This modernized theory
focuses on the leader serving the follower, in a way that gives empowerment and
satisfaction. This is accomplished through the leader having behaviors of
conceptualizing, emotional healing, putting followers first, helping followers grow
and succeed, behaving ethically, empowering, and creating value for the community,

Students differ in their maturity level, ability to learn, motivation, priorities,
personality, as well as many other factors that put them on different levels
(Rajbhandari, 2014). These differences are very obvious when it comes to being in
the classroom and assigning projects, and observing that some students need more
help than others. It is relatively easy to label a student with the Situational Leadership
Model designed by K. Blanchard, P. Zigarmi, and D. Zigarmi. The model consists
of four developmental levels, which ultimately decides the leadership style to be
either directing, coaching, supporting, or delegating (Northouse, 2016). In certain
subjects such as math or literature, students are already divided by their level of
development. In these advanced classes there may typically be students that are not
in need of much support or direction, where as other classes need strong support
along with high direction. With these divided classes it may be easier to apply this
theory, but when applied to a mixed classroom where there may be a few students in
need of the supporting category, and many students in need of the coaching category,
how is it that you move those few students into delegating, and the rest into
supporting? When so many students need high direction and high support, the
educator will not only be spread thin, but it will be quite a challenge to improve

Critical Incidents Of Academic Institutions
Critical Incidents in Academic Institutions The critical incident technique is used to
gather and analyze an employees behavior through methods such as observation and
interviews (Andersson Nilsson,1964). This technique is useful in collecting
information regarding behavior that amounts to successful or unsuccessful in a
performance (Peterson, Jeanneret, 2007). The procedures utilized in the critical
incident techniqueallows for the similarities, differences and patterns of behaviors to
be analyzed. This process aids in the solving of problems, and establishing principles
(Hughes, Williamson, Lloyd, 2007; Flanagan, 1954). According to Shapira
Lishchinsky (2010), utilizing critical incident reports in schools assist in enabling the
management of errors, support and autonomy, which in turn reduces ethical friction.
In regard to the schoolsetting, critical incidents include minor incidents that occur
daily in schools. Because of the nature of the job, middle school teachers can face
critical incidents that involve both moral and ethical conflict (Shapira Lishchinsky,
2010). However, the classification or weather it is negative or positive is based on
the meaning given by a teacher, observer, etc. Nonetheless, critical incidents and
behaviors are important to identify as it can be detrimental to a teachers professional
career (Shapira Lishchinsky, 2010). One example of a positive critical incident for
the middle school teacher is teachers who behaviordemonstrates
The Philosophical View Of Empiricism
Today in society, many people are free to follow which ever philosophical view
that they feel is right for them. Each philosophical view has a different set of
beliefs, and many philosophers went through great lengths to prove that the
philosophical view of their choice was the best one. In this paper I will be talking
about two philosophical theories. The first one is called Empiricism, and it was
made famous by a philosopher named David Hume. Empiricism states that our
knowledge should come from sensory experience, impressions, and observation. The
other philosophical view I will be taking about is called Rationalism. Many people
who don t agree with empiricism lean more towards Rationalism. Rationalism was

With thoughts, your mind thinks about certain feelings, but you don t experience
them first hand. With impression, you experience things such as hearing, seeing,
and feeling first hand, instead of just thinking about them. For example, an
impression can be used to describe a man who is in fit of anger , and a man who is
thinking about anger, but not actually in a fit of anger would be considered to be a
thought. A thought can also be considered as an idea. Hume describe ideas as
being less vivacious than impressions . He feels that impressions are drawn from
memory or imagination, thus causing them to be less lively and vivid. Our mind
consist of many complex ideas, and according to Hume these ideas are the things
that influence our imagination. He claims that complex ideas are combined into
one big idea, thus resulting to a single idea. For example, when we think of a
golden mountain, our mind use the memories we have of the color gold, and the
memories we have of a mountain, and combine the two into a single image of a
golden mountain. Another example is our idea of God. When we think of the
supremely good and intelligent nature of God, we are doing nothing more than,
comparing his goodness to the goodness of a human beings. Hume claims that we
can only have knowledge of things that we have experienced before. Since a blind
man can t see, his knowledge of the colors will be very limited. The only way

According to Gunhan and Arditi (2007), there were three types of contingencies,
namely designer s contingency, contractor s contingency, and owner s contingency.
They claimed that the best method to predict contingency was to use previous
experiences. They mentioned that a detailed study of four factors, namely site
conditions, schedule constraints, project scope, and constructability issues could play
an important role either in preventing the CO or reducing the chances of needing a
big contingency money. Smith et al. (1999) stated that the wise decision on the
amount of contingency used while bidding could have effects on whether wining of
the contract. They interviewed 12 contractors on the contingency calculation method
and found that among these contractors, nobody was aware of any kind of estimation
method for the contingency amount. Whenever, these contractors used contingency,
they simply followed the traditional approach of adding some percentages to the
base cost as contingencies. Mac and Picken (2000) conducted a study on two types of
projects, namely estimating using risk analysis (ERA) and non ERA projects. They
made comparison between 45 ERA projects with 287 non ERA projects and found
that ERA method helped to reduce the unnecessary risk allowances in projects.
According to the authors, Hong Kong government was implementing this ERA
technique in public construction projects. In the ERA method, they described that the
cost determined for fixed and variable

The Effects Of Coral Bleaching On Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are unique and diverse underwater marine ecosystems that are found in
many parts of the world. Today these tropical reefs suffer a great deal of
environmental stresses and are projected to decline over the next century due to
global warming. In Grottoli s article: The cumulative impact of annual coral
bleaching can turn some coral species winners into losers, she elaborates on the
effects of annual bleaching on three species of coral. Grottoli took three species of
coral such as O. Faveolata, P.asreoides P.divaricata and exposed the treatment groups
to high temperatures of 31.5 В°C for 15 days while control groups remained at a
normal temperature of 30.6 В°C for the same amount of days. After treatment species
were then weighed and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such high level of energy reserve is a good indication of over all health and ability
to acclimate to harsh environments. An endosymbiont level is a measurement of
other beneficial cells that lives on the coral and forms a symbiotic relationship.
Researchers recorded their results and then repeated the experiment on the same
corals a year later to see the effects of repeated high temperatures as a model for
annual coral bleaching as a result of global warming. Upon completion of the
experiment Grottoli and her team of researchers noted, yearly bleaching can
dramatically alter the thermal tolerance of corals (Grottoli s, 2014). Interestingly
enough, while the majority of the species decreased in all variables compared to
controls, P.divaricata increased in energy reserves at about 20 45% higher than
controls after the second treatment. This increase in total energy reserve lead to a
reduction in the susceptibility to coral bleaching for that species. Thus, suggests that
this species of coral can adapt to high temperatures after the first event of bleaching
occurs. Conversely, due to its low energy reserves and its low potential to increase
endosymbiont levels, P.asreoides is not likely acclimatize to higher temperatures thus
resulting in low abundance of the species in future
How The Kidneys Serve The Primary Functions Of Plasma
Volume
The kidneys serve the primary functions of regulating plasma volume, electrolyte
balance, producing hormones, acid and base balance, removing waste, and retaining
water to produce urine. These wastes come from the breakdown products of
metabolically active muscle, and from food consumed. Your body utilizes what it
needs, and the waste is sent into the urine. The body will regulate water volume
within the body by helping the body retain water when plasma osmolarity decreases,
as well as excrete water when plasma osmolarity is high. Water and other materials
are reabsorbed or excreted as it passes through the tubules of the nephronin the kidney
to help maintain the composition of the blood. The Kidney consists of two layers, the

The Loop of Henle is the area of greater ion concentration due to higher amounts of
ion absorption (primarily on the ascending limb). Because the ascending limp of the
loop of Henle is in the renal medulla, it makes the renal medulla much more
concentrated than the renal cortex. This then moves into the distal convoluted
tubule, which is responsible for more absorption, just not as extensive as the
proximal tubule. Following the distal tubule are the collecting ducts, which gives
the kidney its striped appearance. We also reabsorb urea and water in the collecting
ducts. Urea is usually what is mainly excreted in urine. The peritubular capillaries
and vasa recta that branch across the nephron itself will filter materials back into the
efferent arterioles to be reabsorbed back into the blood stream.
The three main responsibilities of the kidney include, filtration (movement of
¬¬¬¬¬ things out of glomerulus to Bowman s space), absorption (movement
of things from tubular lumen into the blood via the peritubular capillaries), and
secretion (movement of things into the tubular lumen from areas other than the
glomerulus).
The nephron, the functional unit of the kidney, is the site where filtering, absorption,
and secretion actually occur. There are around 1 million nephrons in each kidney.
This filtration is carried out in what is called the renal corpuscle (the glomerulus and
Bowman s capsule). The filtration of fluid is ideal at the
The Importance Of Life Experiences
In the tapestry of life, I ve have accustomed myself with people from diverse colors
of race, textures of belief, and patterns of culture. Different threads of individuals
with their unique life experiences have surrounded me in my every stage. Each
relationship has woven me into an expressive piece of fabric that refuses one
dimensional uniformity. Being from a small, homogenous town in the Philippines, I
wore an immigrant identity among various others within the big, melting pot of the
city of San Francisco. My hardworking parents juggled two jobs that successfully
sent all seven of their kids through school. I roamed around my multicultural
neighborhood where in the same street I could find an authentic Italian joint baking
the cheesiest pizza, a hole in the wall Filipino stand dishing up the cheapest comfort
food, and a popular Mexican canteen offering a loaded carne asadaburrito with a side
of live mariachi band. In this colorful neighborhood, I shared the wild schoolyard and
the nesting classroom with my fellow peers from the same district. This diverse
environment exposed me to different ethnicities and cultures, novel ideas and
philosophies, and thought provoking lessons and discussions. One of the most
impactful of these discoveries came from room 201, fourth period, seventh grade
science class at James Denman Middle School with Mr. Fox. Consequently, my initial
interest and amazement of the complex systems of the human body began to deeply
enroot. Out of the
Problem Associated With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (
Dmd )
One major problem associated with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the
prevalence of fibrosis that occurs in the skeletal muscles, heart, and lungs of these
patients. In the heart and lungs, fibrosis inhibits the body s ability to perform
cardiopulmonary or respiratory function, respectively. These conditions typically
result in death if no emergency medical attention is given. Fibrosis can also present
as contractures in the skeletal musclefibers, which will usually result in the loss of
skeletal muscular function and the need for surgery.
DMD is caused by a mutation in the X linked dystrophin gene, which results in a
dysfunctional dystrophin protein. Dystrophin is a cytoskeletal protein that provides
mechanical stability to muscle cells by connecting the muscle sarcolemma to the
basal lamina of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and without it there, the muscle cells
typically undergo a process of degeneration and regeneration. This process is limited
by the survival of satellite cells present since satellite cells can only undergo mitosis a
limited amount of times. Sarcolemma instability typically results in excess
intracellular amounts of both sodium and calcium, which causes ATP depletion and
mitochondrial uncoupling (Horn Schleip, 2012). Satellite cells only have a limited
number times they can undergo mitosis, and once a patient can no longer generate
healthy muscle cells, the patient will typically experience cell death. This cell death
and necrosis usually
Career And Technical Education
Including Career and Technical Education Teachers in the IEP Process: The Need For
Increased Participation
The current mantra of the American education system is to equip students with the
skills and knowledge required to be college and career ready. This is not an easy
task for educational leadership given the diversity of students served in public
education. While programs and services exist to support students in their individual
post secondary endeavors, coordination and communication between programs in not
always a given. This phenomenon exists between two such programs: career and
technical education (CTE) and special education. Each programs goal is to assist
students with obtaining the skills and knowledge necessary to move forward ... Show

Legislation assisting students with disabilities (SWD) with equal opportunities in
education and training has been progressive. Legislative mandates underpinning
CTE and inclusion of students with special education needs has occurred in rapid
succession since the 1950 s. There are several key legislative directives, which
bolster the inclusion of students with disabilities (SWD) in career and technical
education (CTE). In 1975, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act, together
with the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), the Rehabilitation Act (1973) and
Section 504, prohibit discrimination based on disability, and require equal access for
all students in programs that are federally funded. Furthermore, the Perkins Act
(1998) requires that individuals with disabilities receive equal access to all
vocational education endeavors supported by federal financial assistance and bars
discriminatory practices based on ability (Ordover and Annexstein,

  • 5. Hans Use Of Political And Social Themes Hans Haacke has been characterized as among some of the most revolutionary and controversial contemporary and conceptual artists of all time. Haacke s works are generally simply constructed yet exquisitely permeated with depth and importance through his integration of social, political, and environmental issues in his pieces that give them a voice they would otherwise lack. In the following essay, we will seek to understand just how Hans Haackes use of political and social themes causes his work to resonate with audiences on the scale it has done. When gazing upon the vast expanse of art history, it becomes evident that the greatest and most influentially revolutionary individuals are not those that dabble in the popular and well studied styles of old. Those who are great flee from average and explore uncharted new territories. The individuals that choose to really set themselves apart from the rest of art culture are those who branch out in totally new directions. Those who delve into new ideas and new ways of expressing themselves through mediums and styles few have trodden upon. Hans Haacke has cemented himself in history as one of these influential and revolutionary individuals. His pioneering work of a conceptual nature was unparalleled and unmatched by his competitors at its conception. Hans Haacke was born August 12, 1936 in the little town of Cologne, Germany. Before he started formal education, he was part of an global organization known as Zero. Zero was a

As observed in Fig. 8. The initial flux of PIM shows a gradual decrease with increasing of cycle s reuse, which may be caused by the loss of carrier from membrane [37]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conclusion In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied for the removal of citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA was found to be the optimum base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid. Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of citric acid transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle. Choosing the appropriate length of alkyl chain, very selective system can be designed. The excellent efficiency for the citric acid transport by the proposed PIM system reveals its potential application for the selective removal, concentration and purification of citric acid from different media. Chess is an original musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with book and lyrics by Tim Rice. The story follows an unexpected relationship between a Soviet chess grandmaster and a woman who manages his opponent during the World Chess Match in Bangkok, Thailand. The significance of the World Chess match in this story is tremendous because it takes place during the climax of the Cold War, and the two adversaries whom are to face each other are from America and the U.S.S.R, and each country wants their grandmaster to win for propaganda purposes. The main characters in the story are not representations of real people, but are thought to hold their roots in Bobby Fischer, one of the greatest American chess grandmasters of all time and former World Champion, and Anatoly Karpov, one of the greatest Russian chess grandmaster and former World Champion. Chess was first released as an album in 1984 before any stage productions were attempted, partly to raise the money and to see how the music would fair. On May 14th, 1986, it opened as a stage production at London s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre and ran for three years. Two years later, it opened on Broadway, and flopped after a run of two months. The show received extremely varied reactions, ranging from far too long to eclectic and stirring .

The Effects of Falling Gas Prices on Operation Management Decision Making Dylan Knight Robert Morris University Abstract This paper briefly takes a look at how the price of gas has changed over the past ten years and what has caused the drop in fuel prices within the past few years. It then looks at the fuel price s effect on business operation through the eyes of the Operations Manager and the key aspects in decision making that they have to consider when the gas prices fall, like they have recently. The one downfall of the increased production here in the United States is the drilling has slowed down drastically leaving many oil workers without a job and forcing some companies out of business. (Krauss) Another cause of the gas prices dropping, according to an article on CNN, is the economic slowdown of the Chinese economy. They also mentioned the increased production in the United States and finally the tentative nuclear deal which would make their oil more readily available to our country. In the article they also predicted that by the time football season came around that tens of thousands of gas stations across the country will be below the $2 a gallon mark. (Isidore) Even though we have seen it come close here in Pennsylvania, it has not gone below $2 here in the greater Pittsburgh area. A few times that I have been home in Ohio I have seen it drop below $2 but it ultimately just depends on which area you are in. With winter quickly approaching gas prices are expected to continue to drop as stations mix a less expensive blend of gas for the winter months. (Isidore) So it is a possibility that we could see prices here in the Pittsburgh area fall to the $2 a gallon area. If I were placed as the Operations Manager in any industry gas prices play a huge factor in business and

  • 17. The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with gender stereotypes. Through changes to appearance and personality, characters disguise themselves to fit in with the opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that because the characters are female, they do not have the appropriate power they need for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve that power, they are still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power does not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so she can be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a man in order to find her brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also dresses as a man to travel to Milan and visit Proteus. Both of these women find themselves in challenging situations, who use unique strategies in order to cope and subtly opposing genderroles. Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been translated to many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not only do his plays continue to stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted through different cultures around the worlds. • 19. Argumentative Essay On Population Control Population control is a policy of attempting to limit the growth in numbers of a population (dictionary.com). Kurt Vonnegut writes about a time when the United States population is stable at forty million people. In order for them to stay at the same amount of people they take a life for every new life. A situation as the one illustrated in the story would bring out humaninstincts in a negative way. That is why this form of population control is a horrible idea because as humans we have the instinct to do all we can for those we love and to survive. In all reality, the universehas its own natural way of controlling the population and that s all that we need. As humans our basic human naturetells us to do all we can for those we love. It is instinct for a parent to protect their child at all cost. It was no shock when Vonnegut states, Wehling shot Dr. Hitz... then he shot Leora Duncan (Vonnegut). Its hard to say Mr. Wehling s response in the story is completely normal. However, to a certain extent it is because both Leora and Hitz would be the reason his triplets couldn t live. He didn t have anyone else that would volunteer. That of course doesn t make what he did right but for him he was protecting his child. Another thing that plays into our natural human instinct is often the people we love can do no wrong in our eyes. Think about if your spouse cheats it is sometimes easy to forgive them because of all the other amazing things that have done. Lastly, we will do whatever it takes to make those that mean the most to us happy. That s why the grandfather in the story offered to go the Ethical Suicide Studio . He wanted his grandson to have the life he always wanted by having children. He wouldn t just choose to do this for his grandson unless he believed that it would make him happy. Wehling even says, All I have to do is pick which one of the triplets is going to live, then deliver my maternal grandfather to the Happy Hooligan, (Vonnegut). Do we really think he wanted to see his grandfather go? No would be many people answers, he simply thinks about letting it happen because he believes it will make his wife happy to keep all of her children. Doing all we can for those we love includes protecting
  • 20. Foundationalism In William Shakespear s Much Ado About... The word Foundationalism was given a clear definition by Descartes, meaning someone looking for a clear and certain foundation. There is a way to accomplish this task, meaning order to find or build a foundation or a base that is certain, one must first destroy everything one believes to know start from the very beginning. The goal is to find things that are absolute indubitable , meaning it is 100 percent certain or it can not under any circumstances be doubted (Descartes 13). The play Much ado about nothingwritten by William Shakespear would not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering anything being indubitable. It is entails clear social and genderissues of its time. With this essay, I wish to point out how the men boast themselves in so much honor and masculinity, that they are easily blinded by a simple lie. So simple in fact, that it took an entire plot built on Hero s death to reveal the truth. If a woman s mind, body and soul were more valuable, there would have been no need to lie and deceive once more to prove Hero s innocence. This is important, because women are still judged more harshly for being involved with a man before marriage, or having multiple partners. While men can marry after being known to be very far from celibacy themselves, but wish to have a virgin or a woman with fewer and closer to zero sexual partners. This misogynistic double standard was carried into the movie by Kenneth Branagh. In this case, first I would like to look

When Winnie saw Jesse drinking the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn t carry four people and run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like that, some of the parts in the book are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean in the movie. He s always angry at something and he s very moody. • 24. Cell Phone Use And Inattentional Blindness Cell phones have become increasingly prevalent in modern life. At the same time, they bring the possibility of many distractions. These types of distractions can be potentially dangerous and even deadly (i.e. texting and driving) and can lead to experiencing inattentional blindness (failure to see unexpected/unusual stimulus in plain sight). Text messaging has been found to affect a person s natural walk (Lamberg Muratori , 2012), showing that they can be very inhibiting for a pedestrian. Thus, cell phone use while crossing the street could be very dangerous because of not noticing surroundings (cars, people, etc.), traffic cues (stop lights, signs, etc.), and the possibility of walking off the designated path such as a cross walk. Although there have been studies looking at cell phone use and the effects of it on attention, they mostly focus on how it has impacted drivers and pedestrians as a whole, without differentiating types of people it could potentially effect. Having information on the type of person to experience inattentional blindness because of cell phone use could lead to better ways in improving people s overall safety and awareness and decrease the amount of vehicle related deaths. Cell phone use has been shown to be positively correlated with inattentional blindness. Schwebel et al. • 25. The Movie Platoon I m writing about four films, Platoon by Oliver Stone, Drone by Robert Glickert, Donnie Darko by Richard Kelly, and finally Saving Private Ryan by Steven Spielberg. These four films all fit into the theme, which is the blurring of morality. This theme relates to these movies though revenge, drug use, and questionable orders made by people in command. I will first be discussing how revenge fits into the theme. I have purposely chosen to talk about revenge first because I believe that more can be learnt from drug use or questionable orders. After discussing revenge I will then talk about drug use and finally discuss how questionable orders fits into the theme. I believe that we can learn the most from questionable orders, making it the most important. One of the main links between the films Platoon and Drone is how people, or is this case soldiers, seek revenge against their enemy. In Platoon this greed for revenge is shown when U.S. marines discover a village with, enough rice to feed an entire regiment, of North Vietnamese soldiers. With this information some U.S. soldiers can t see anything wrong with raping and violently assaulting members of the new enemy village. This is where the blurring of morality comes into effect in Platoon, some U.S. soldiers feel it s okay to now treat villages like animals, just because they were caught helping the North Vietnamese. In Drone this greed for revenge is shown when a U.S. commander orders soldiers in the field to execute

  • 27. Understanding A Problem And Defining The Real Problem Understanding a problem and defining the real problem is a skill that can be applied to many facets of life. In the workplace it is common place to have management not understand their employees and in turn create a negative work environment. For example, a labor crew may have years of combined experience, but it is understandable that an inexperienced educated person might be placed in a managementrole above the laborers. Without truly understandingthe environmentthe laborers deal with, the inexperienced manager might see labor practices that are not fully understood and find fault with those practices despite the years of experience that went into the particular practice. (Modic, 1988) presents five tenets management can use to better manage people. The relationship between management and employee was studied to determine these five tenets and how they can resolve the root of work evil. The first tenet of people management according to (Modic, 1988) is, Focus on performance, not personality. Modic goes on to explain, This provides a dialog that can address performance improvement. (p. 1). The second tenet ties into the first tenet of focusing on performance by providing a way to measure the performance. Modic says, Provide a base line against which to measure later results, a key element in the change process. (p. 1). The first two tenets are being used to focus on a measureable component of an employee s performance rather than intangibles such as personality. By

The procedures utilized in the critical incident techniqueallows for the similarities, differences and patterns of behaviors to be analyzed. A thought can also be considered as an idea. Hume describe ideas as being less vivacious than impressions . This was because Kansas is an open carry state. She did a literal 360 degree turn looking for witnesses. She spotted the painter s van across the street and sprinted towards it. The next events seemed to happen fast and at the same time dragged on. When the guy came out of the house, a female came with him. She had a pleading face and begged us not to call the police. The guy continued to keep his identity unknown despite our repeated requests for his information. The squad car and my dad arrived at almost the same time. The officer got right to work and had us begin the information exchange. The officer directed the handcuffed guy in his car just as I finished my written statement. By this time, a second police car arrived. I called my drum professor to let him know I would not be at lessons today and why. Finally, I walked over to where my parents were standing and the police officer was updating them on the

According to Gunhan and Arditi (2007), there were three types of contingencies, namely designer s contingency, contractor s contingency, and owner s contingency. They claimed that the best method to predict contingency was to use previous experiences. They mentioned that a detailed study of four factors, namely site conditions, schedule constraints, project scope, and constructability issues could play an important role either in preventing the CO or reducing the chances of needing a big contingency money. Smith et al. (1999) stated that the wise decision on the amount of contingency used while bidding could have effects on whether wining of the contract. They interviewed 12 contractors on the contingency calculation method and found that among these contractors, nobody was aware of any kind of estimation method for the contingency amount. Whenever, these contractors used contingency, they simply followed the traditional approach of adding some percentages to the base cost as contingencies. Mac and Picken (2000) conducted a study on two types of projects, namely estimating using risk analysis (ERA) and non ERA projects. They made comparison between 45 ERA projects with 287 non ERA projects and found that ERA method helped to reduce the unnecessary risk allowances in projects. According to the authors, Hong Kong government was implementing this ERA technique in public construction projects. In the ERA method, they described that the cost determined for fixed and variable

  • 43. The Effects Of Coral Bleaching On Coral Reefs Coral reefs are unique and diverse underwater marine ecosystems that are found in many parts of the world. Today these tropical reefs suffer a great deal of environmental stresses and are projected to decline over the next century due to global warming. In Grottoli s article: The cumulative impact of annual coral bleaching can turn some coral species winners into losers, she elaborates on the effects of annual bleaching on three species of coral. Grottoli took three species of coral such as O. Faveolata, P.asreoides P.divaricata and exposed the treatment groups to high temperatures of 31.5 В°C for 15 days while control groups remained at a normal temperature of 30.6 В°C for the same amount of days. After treatment species were then weighed and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such high level of energy reserve is a good indication of over all health and ability to acclimate to harsh environments. An endosymbiont level is a measurement of other beneficial cells that lives on the coral and forms a symbiotic relationship. Researchers recorded their results and then repeated the experiment on the same corals a year later to see the effects of repeated high temperatures as a model for annual coral bleaching as a result of global warming. Upon completion of the experiment Grottoli and her team of researchers noted, yearly bleaching can dramatically alter the thermal tolerance of corals (Grottoli s, 2014). Interestingly enough, while the majority of the species decreased in all variables compared to controls, P.divaricata increased in energy reserves at about 20 45% higher than controls after the second treatment. This increase in total energy reserve lead to a reduction in the susceptibility to coral bleaching for that species. Thus, suggests that this species of coral can adapt to high temperatures after the first event of bleaching occurs. Conversely, due to its low energy reserves and its low potential to increase endosymbiont levels, P.asreoides is not likely acclimatize to higher temperatures thus resulting in low abundance of the species in future

How The Kidneys Serve The Primary Functions Of Plasma Volume The kidneys serve the primary functions of regulating plasma volume, electrolyte balance, producing hormones, acid and base balance, removing waste, and retaining water to produce urine. These wastes come from the breakdown products of metabolically active muscle, and from food consumed. Your body utilizes what it needs, and the waste is sent into the urine. The body will regulate water volume within the body by helping the body retain water when plasma osmolarity decreases, as well as excrete water when plasma osmolarity is high. Water and other materials are reabsorbed or excreted as it passes through the tubules of the nephronin the kidney to help maintain the composition of the blood. The Kidney consists of two layers, the outer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Loop of Henle is the area of greater ion concentration due to higher amounts of ion absorption (primarily on the ascending limb). Because the ascending limp of the loop of Henle is in the renal medulla, it makes the renal medulla much more concentrated than the renal cortex. This then moves into the distal convoluted tubule, which is responsible for more absorption, just not as extensive as the proximal tubule. Following the distal tubule are the collecting ducts, which gives the kidney its striped appearance. We also reabsorb urea and water in the collecting ducts. Urea is usually what is mainly excreted in urine. The peritubular capillaries and vasa recta that branch across the nephron itself will filter materials back into the efferent arterioles to be reabsorbed back into the blood stream. The three main responsibilities of the kidney include, filtration (movement of ¬¬¬¬¬ things out of glomerulus to Bowman s space), absorption (movement of things from tubular lumen into the blood via the peritubular capillaries), and secretion (movement of things into the tubular lumen from areas other than the glomerulus). The nephron, the functional unit of the kidney, is the site where filtering, absorption, and secretion actually occur. There are around 1 million nephrons in each kidney. This filtration is carried out in what is called the renal corpuscle (the glomerulus and Bowman s capsule). The filtration of fluid is ideal at the

Different threads of individuals with their unique life experiences have surrounded me in my every stage. Each relationship has woven me into an expressive piece of fabric that refuses one dimensional uniformity. Being from a small, homogenous town in the Philippines, I wore an immigrant identity among various others within the big, melting pot of the city of San Francisco. My hardworking parents juggled two jobs that successfully sent all seven of their kids through school. I roamed around my multicultural neighborhood where in the same street I could find an authentic Italian joint baking the cheesiest pizza, a hole in the wall Filipino stand dishing up the cheapest comfort food, and a popular Mexican canteen offering a loaded carne asadaburrito with a side of live mariachi band. In this colorful neighborhood, I shared the wild schoolyard and the nesting classroom with my fellow peers from the same district. This diverse environment exposed me to different ethnicities and cultures, novel ideas and philosophies, and thought provoking lessons and discussions. One of the most impactful of these discoveries came from room 201, fourth period, seventh grade science class at James Denman Middle School with Mr. Fox. Consequently, my initial interest and amazement of the complex systems of the human body began to deeply enroot. Out of the

Problem Associated With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ( Dmd ) One major problem associated with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the prevalence of fibrosis that occurs in the skeletal muscles, heart, and lungs of these patients. In the heart and lungs, fibrosis inhibits the body s ability to perform cardiopulmonary or respiratory function, respectively. These conditions typically result in death if no emergency medical attention is given. Fibrosis can also present as contractures in the skeletal musclefibers, which will usually result in the loss of skeletal muscular function and the need for surgery. DMD is caused by a mutation in the X linked dystrophin gene, which results in a dysfunctional dystrophin protein. Dystrophin is a cytoskeletal protein that provides mechanical stability to muscle cells by connecting the muscle sarcolemma to the basal lamina of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and without it there, the muscle cells typically undergo a process of degeneration and regeneration. This process is limited by the survival of satellite cells present since satellite cells can only undergo mitosis a limited amount of times. Sarcolemma instability typically results in excess intracellular amounts of both sodium and calcium, which causes ATP depletion and mitochondrial uncoupling (Horn Schleip, 2012). Satellite cells only have a limited number times they can undergo mitosis, and once a patient can no longer generate healthy muscle cells, the patient will typically experience cell death. This cell death and necrosis usually

Career And Technical Education Including Career and Technical Education Teachers in the IEP Process: The Need For Increased Participation The current mantra of the American education system is to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to be college and career ready. This is not an easy task for educational leadership given the diversity of students served in public education. While programs and services exist to support students in their individual post secondary endeavors, coordination and communication between programs in not always a given. This phenomenon exists between two such programs: career and technical education (CTE) and special education. Each programs goal is to assist students with obtaining the skills and knowledge necessary to move forward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Legislation assisting students with disabilities (SWD) with equal opportunities in education and training has been progressive. Legislative mandates underpinning CTE and inclusion of students with special education needs has occurred in rapid succession since the 1950 s. There are several key legislative directives, which bolster the inclusion of students with disabilities (SWD) in career and technical education (CTE). In 1975, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act, together with the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), the Rehabilitation Act (1973) and Section 504, prohibit discrimination based on disability, and require equal access for all students in programs that are federally funded. Furthermore, the Perkins Act (1998) requires that individuals with disabilities receive equal access to all vocational education endeavors supported by federal financial assistance and bars discriminatory practices based on ability (Ordover and Annexstein,
