1. Essay The Crucible
Writing an essay on "The Crucible" can be a challenging yet intellectually rewarding task. Arthur
Miller's play delves into complex themes such as the consequences of mass hysteria, the abuse of
power, and the fragility of justice. Crafting an insightful essay requires a deep understanding of
the historical context, the characters' motivations, and the underlying allegorical elements.
One of the primary challenges lies in navigating the intricate web of relationships among the
characters. Analyzing the dynamics between individuals like John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and
Reverend Hale demands a keen eye for detail and an ability to discern the subtle nuances in their
interactions. Unraveling the layers of symbolism and allegory adds another layer of complexity,
requiring the writer to connect the events in Salem to broader historical and societal themes.
Furthermore, the essay must explore the socio-political commentary embedded in the narrative.
Addressing the parallels between the Salem witch trials and McCarthyism, as well as drawing
insightful comparisons to contemporary issues, demands a thoughtful and nuanced approach.
This requires a thorough understanding of the play's cultural and historical context, as well as an
ability to draw connections between the events of the past and the challenges of the present.
To excel in writing an essay on "The Crucible," one must also engage deeply with Miller's
language and dramatic techniques. Analyzing the play's dialogue, stage directions, and thematic
consistency adds depth to the interpretation. This level of scrutiny demands not only a
comprehensive understanding of the play itself but also an ability to articulate one's insights
coherently and persuasively.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "The Crucible" is a formidable task that necessitates a
combination of historical knowledge, literary analysis skills, and critical thinking. However, the
effort invested in unraveling the play's complexities can lead to a profound appreciation of its
timeless themes and relevance. For those seeking assistance, similar essays and more can be

2. Hillbilly Elegy Summary
In the fifth reading assignment of Hillbilly Elegy, the chapters highlight J.D s time in
high school, the Marines, and college.
The start of chapter seven dealt with the death of Papaw. I think this death took a
toll on J.D largely because Papaw was the closest thing to a stable father figure he
had. I love the relationship that Papaw and J.D had, and I m sure it was one that
J.D cherishes to this day. Reading about Papaw s funeral was especially tough for
me because I have been exactly where J.D was in that moment. My grandfather
passed away in the summer of 2015, and I also spoke at his funeral. I was
extremely close with my Grandpa, or Papa as I called him, and reading about J.D s
experience brought up some tough feelings for me. I noticed that J.D s mother took
the loss of her father extremely had. She was thrown into a prescription drug
induced tailspin. This is yet another example of the loss of a loved one completely
derailing the life of one of their loved ones. Her story reminded me of Scott from
Evicted. This also made me feel for J.D, he had just lost his beloved grandfather, and
now he had to worry about his mother struggling with her addiction.
Later in the chapter, I was happy to read that Lindsay had a great life going for her.
She is one of my favorite characters in this book, and I was joyed to read that she
had found a great husband. I also thought it was completely selfish for J.D s
mother to ask him to move to Dayton with her newest boyfriend. I was also
sickened to read that J.D s mother sent him to a therapist just so she could
interrogate him about how he acted towards his mother. I think if J.D saw an
actual therapist, he could have really benefited from it. I also really respected that
Lindsay dropped everything she was doing to go pick up J.D from Dayton. I think
this really speaks to their relationship, and how much she cares for her brother. I
was also stunned to read that J.D s mother agreed to marry a man she had only
known for one week. I knew that she had relationship issues, but this still shocked
me. I think J.D eventually became numb to the amount of partners his mother
brought home. The story of J.D s mother begging for his clean urine was extremely
sad to me. I think
3. Differences Between Greek Theatre And Theatre
Opera and theater share many similarities especially since the former is influenced
by the latter. In his text, A Short History of Opera, Donald Grout defines opera as a
drama in music: a dramatic action, exhibited on stage with scenery by actors in
costume, the words conveyed entirely or for the most part by singing, and the whole
sustained and amplified by orchestral music (4). Operaliterally translates to work.
The first known opera that was performed was in 1597. However, interestingly
enough, the word opera was not used until 1634 (Grout 1). The origins of seventeenth
century opera can be traced back to Greek drama and medieval theatre. Throughout
the seventeenth century, many different kinds of operas can be found from countries
such as Italy, Germany, and England. In order to fully understand opera and its inner
workings, it is important to locate and learn the origin of opera.
Greek drama is said to be the model on which the creators of modern opera at the
end of the sixteenth century based their work on (Grout 11). There are substantial
differences between Greek drama and opera. For example, in Greek theater, the
cast was made up of only men and young boys (Grout 13). Also, it is important to
note that these plays were not sung entirely. Rather, many parts were spoken out
loud like the singing was left to the chorus (Grout 12). The chorus s main function
was to express opinions or give advice. They also conveyed emotions for the
audience to react to (Grout 12).

Although the concentration of activity and people within cities is frequently
perceived to be the main source of environmental problems, it can also have
environmental advantages as well, for instance through the sharing of resources and
reduced vehicle travel times. Dr. Steemers believes that more intense land use and
sharing of infrastructure such as energy, water, drainage, roads, buildings and public
transport can greatly reduce the energy per capita in urban areas. He also explains
that urban environments can receive huge benefits from the use of combined heat
and power (CHP). CHP has the potential to deliver 55% thermal energy and 30%
electrical energy by themselves. The two energies combined can typically deliver

Microclimate modification through landscaping is a proven method for reducing the
heat island effect. Landscaping can be used to control several aspects of the
microclimate such as solar radiation, air temperature, wind speed and direction,
relative humidity and glare. Using trees and shrubs is the most significant way to
provide shade and control of relative humidity and air movement. In addition plants
provide ventilation and reduced heat through ventilation. When air crosses hard
reflective or absorptive surfaces like parking lots and sidewalks it is warmed, but air
passing through trees and plants is cooled (Ogunsote, 2003). Common ways in which
to integrate landscaping elements into the urban environment include planting trees
and shrubs, lawns and flowerbeds, pools and ponds.
Another common way to implement plants into urban areas is through green roofs. A
green roof is basically a vegetative layer grown on a rooftop. Green roofs provide
shade and remove heat from the air through evapotranspiration, reducing temperatures
of the roof surface and the surrounding air. The EPA recommends green roofs for
mitigating urban heat islands and outlines some of the benefits below:
Reduced energy use: Green roofs absorb heat and act as insulators for buildings,
reducing energy needed to provide cooling and heating.
Reduced air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions:
5. The Impact Of Oil On The Economy
History Of Oil In The Economy For a very long time, oil was widely used for
things such as medicine, lubricants and adhesives. However, A new era began when
Edwin Drake successfully produced commercially usable quantities of crude oil
from a 69 foot well in Pennsylvania in 1859 (Parker, 2013). In the 19th century, oil
became a key player in all industries, businesses, technology and geopolitics
(Hinsdale, 2014).
Oil has become the means of survival for both consumers and producers.
Consequently, the fluctuations in the price of oil have become one of the greatest
concerns in the economy. According to Branginskii, the market of energy carriers,
primarily oil, are a great threat to world economy. Lack of clarity with crude oil prices

After being vertically and horizontally integrated, the organization decided to better
the quality of its oil by hiring scientists to increase economic efficiency and
reliability. Although The Standard Oil Company was not the only refinery at this
point in time, it was a key player in the industry. Once a degraded product, oil
fuelled cars and planes: a necessity in World War 1. Wall explained how land and
oil was negotiated: the various oil strikes focused attention on a legal situation
unique to the United States. Land ownership carried with it rights to all subsoil
minerals, termed the common law right of capture. Oil companies, like other mineral
companies, negotiated with each landowner for drilling rights . Designated land had
to be agreed upon, not just by landowners, but also by the government. World War II
made the oil industry a key American resource. Oil company research and executive
leadership played major roles in the conflict. Research increased the number of
products made from petroleum and natural gas, including the explosive
Trinitrotoluene and artificial rubber. Oil tankers supplied gasoline for the Allies at
great risk from submarine attacks. The government rationed gasoline and controlled
prices during the war and ended the delusion that American supplies of crude were
unlimited. From this, the industry and the securing of oil became a top priority for
both foreign and domestic policy (Wall, 2014). Today, approximately 90% of
6. The Firewall Essay
The Firewall
WHAT IS A NETWORK FIREWALL?
A firewall is a system or group of systems that enforces an access control policy
between two or more networks. The means by which this control is accomplished
varies widely, but in principle, the firewall is a pair of mechanisms, one that blocks
traffic and one that permits traffic. Some firewalls emphasize blocking traffic, while
others emphasize permitting traffic. The most important thing to recognize about a
firewall is that it implements an access control policy. If you don t know what kind
of access you want to permit or deny, or you let someone else or some product
configure a firewall based on judgment other than yours, that entity is making policy
for your whole organization.
WHY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, firewalls are configured to protect against unauthenticated interactive
logins from the outside world. This protection, more than anything, helps prevent
vandals from logging on to machines on your network. More elaborate firewalls
block traffic from the outside to the inside but permit users on the inside to
communicate freely with the outside. The firewall can protect you against any type
of network borne attack if you unplug it.
Firewalls are also important because they are a single point where you can impose
security and auditing. If someone attacks a computer system by dialing in with a
modem, tracing the perpetrator is impossible. In contrast, the firewall can act as an
effective phone tap and tracing tool. Firewalls also provide an important logging and
auditing function, summarizing topics such as the kinds and amount of traffic that
passed through it and how many attempted break ins occurred recently.
WHAT CAN T A FIREWALL PROTECT AGAINST?
Firewalls can t protect against attacks that don t go through the firewall. Many
corporations that connect to the Internet are very concerned about proprietary data
leaking out of the company. Unfortunately, a magnetic tape exports data just as
effectively as the Internet. Many organizations whose management is terrified of
Internet connections have no coherent policy about protecting dial in access via
modems. It s silly to build a steel door six feet thick
7. Deborah Tannen There Is No Unmarked Woman
There is something subtle about attitudes toward women, something that many
people act in accordance to but are only subconsciously aware of. It is the constant
judgment that women face, and it is also something Deborah Tannen noticed while
sitting in an ordinary meeting one day. During that meeting, she found herself
noticing only the females of the room, not the men. Tannen then realized that it was
because The men s styles were unmarked (Tannen 389). While there are standard
hairstyles and clothing for men, there are none for women. Everything that a woman
wears is a reflection of who she is. In her piece titled There Is No Unmarked Woman,
she writes about her experience and concludes that women cannot escape judgment
no matter what they do.

In this piece, Tannen is sad and disappointed that women are still treated differently
than men are. According to Tannen, there is nothing a woman can resort to if she
does not want to be judged. That is, no woman is unmarked . For example, she
states that There is no woman s hair style that can be called standard, that says
nothing about her. The range of women s hair styles is staggering, but a woman
whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks...
(390). If a woman were to opt for a plain hairstyle, it would still give a message. In
writing about this, Tannen comes to a startling conclusion. She finds that, even today,
women have less
8. Theoretical Perspective Of Realism Essay
The Theoretical Perspective
In order to understand the theoretical perspective, which best explains policy
formulation by several world leaders we must first take several factors into
consideration. Policies are formed in order to improve the country, need, and for
several countries greed. Many policies are based on the perceptions of life,
liberties, and care to progress as a nation. In an attempt to understand why policies
have been made, understanding the person or people who make them makes
theoretical perspective understandable. There are three theoretical perspectives in
which world leaders identify themselves with one theory or all, based in the
decision they must make. To better understand the international politics comparison
of the three theoretical approaches are conducted. Realism has been viewed as the
dominant perspective in International Relation theory for many years. Realist view
survival as the means to create and enforce laws to protect citizens (6). The
assumption in Realism can be made that the rules of the international system are
dictated by anarchy; in this sense, anarchy is perceived as a lack of central
government to enforce rules and protect states (6). Realism can also be assumed as
the theory that used by nation leaders to rule and govern with an iron Fist . Russia s
President Vladimir Putin, takes a Realism approach to policy formulation. Mr. Putin is
viewed as man that takes action, with his swift military interventions (3). Mr.
9. A Comparison Of The Norfolk Four And Guilford Four
Cases
The Norfolk Four and Guilford Four cases took place decades apart from each
other in different countries. For this reason, it is unequivocally both mesmerizing
and disturbing just how similar the two cases are. The Norfolk Four began with the
rape and murder of Michelle Moore Bosko in Norfolk Virginia in the year of 1997.
The case involved numerous navy men and resulted in the wrongful convictions of
four men. The Guilford Four case stemmed from terrorists attacks occurring in
English pubs in 1974. Within the period of approximately one month, there had been
multiple bombs set off at different pubs resulting in numerous casualties and public
fear and outrage. Both cases are tied together by the fact in each case four defendants
were convicted on the basis of false convictions.
One of the ways in which the Norfolk Four and Guilford Four cases can be most
discernibly connected is through the use of coercive interrogation techniques by the
detectives involved in obtaining confessions. While all eight of these individuals
have now been fully pardoned, the long painful process of trials, prison, and
clemency petitions became necessary due to false confessions that wrongfully
convicted these innocent individuals. False confessions can be divided into three
subcategories, two of which are relevant in the Norfolk Four and Guilford Four
cases. In both cases, there are examples of coerced compliant as well as coerced
internalized confessions (Hart, Roesch, Zapf, 2010). It

11. Analysis of the Film American Beauty
American Beauty is a 1999 drama film that focuses on contemporary lives of
individuals having diverse personalities and identities. The movie and the main
character Lester Burnham are aiming to make us realise that life can be short
therefore we should lead more meaningful lives. Through this, he takes us one year
back which summarises his life and those around him. Outward appearances can be
very deceiving as anyone can acquire superficial impressions. In this discussion, I
will be examining closely on a number of identities that is found in American Beauty .
In the film, the characters are in the search for what they believed was their
happiness. Too focused on finding what they deemed was happiness, they failed to
consistently maintain coherent identities. Lester Burnham, a husband and a father,
who is the protagonist of the film, feels ambushed at home and at work. He has little
to no control of his life as his wife Carolyn strives to be the perfect American family.
Lester unleashes from being controlled when he meets his daughter s best friend,
Angela and sees her as a femme fatale and their neighbour s son, Ricky. Ricky
introduces himself to Lester on one of Carolyn s business social function and gets
along immediately while sharing a joint. Lester witnesses Ricky quit his job

inspired Lester to re live his teenage years and he was happy of the outcome in the
beginning. Through

I think it is a nature to use local music in local film productions, especially for those
films that are highly related to the local cultures and traditions. Therefore, in my
opinion, it is quite a nature move to add indigenous musical works in films. Also,

*What is a demographic? A demographic is the study of human populations in terms
of size, density, location, age, gender, race, occupation, and other statistics. The
demographic environment is of major interest to marketers because it involves
people, and people make up markets (Course Book Principle of marketing)
пѓ°Demographic is a group of consumers that has a mutual collection of market
relevant attributes. It can be any number of people that share the same time frame.
Market relevant attributes can include any number of shared values, physical
attributes, experiences, beliefs, environmental conditions, cultures, or political or
financial elements that can be used to increase awareness, loyalty, sales, or product
improvement. All of the above is combined together to create a demographic group
image. This is how a demographic profile is formed.
пѓ°An example of this would be: single, working class, female, 18 24, with a high

1.1 Background
Biometrics science is automatic techniques of identifying a human being based on

identification is more powerful to lower technology identification techniques in
common use today likely passwords, key, cards, tokens, PIN numbers and smart cards.
In exisisting system PINs (personal identification numbers) were one of the first

identification of the PIN, not necessarily recognition of the person who has entered it.
The same thing can be applied with cards and other tokens.
The token is the easiest way to recognize the person but the problem with this
technology is that it can be present by anybody, i.e. we cannot be sure that token is
provided by authentic person only. So, we can say the primary use of physical

The other problems with objects are often lost or stolen and a behavior based on
memory is easily forgotten. Even Identity cannot be guaranteed, privacy cannot

Other functions include planning of strategic goals and making sure they come to
fruition, controlling budget, weighing effectiveness vs. efficiency, and dealing with
employees, customers, and vendors. In essence, there is no specific agenda that can
be adhered to on a daily basis, as the environment of a manager constantly changes.
A customer fire drill could arise (Eshelman, 2011); a sudden change in the
organization, budgetary cuts, and so forth. A manager constantly has to be ready to
change direction and still produce results. A bulk of the daily work load is spent on
managerial duties, such as dealing with the problems at hand (Eshelman, 2011),
making decisions, leading employees, and ensuring a natural flow of projects and
operations. Two of the most critical managerial issues Mr. Eshelman describes are
budgeting and employee relations. The company must have employees, products, and
other resources to run the business in a profitable manner. It is a manager s
responsibility to weigh the balance of effectiveness vs. efficiency and profit vs. loss
on a constant basis. When certain budgetary allocations change, the manager needs to
find alternatives and put plans into place to reduce cost but still maintain profitability
and productivity. In Eshelman s opinion, the three most important manager skills to
possess are the ability to make impromptu decisions, have technical competency,

The novel of Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky has a variety of themes.
Throughout the novel the reader is able to see, the main character, Raskolnikov

who committed this heinous crime of murder. Throughout the course of the novel, he
deals with the internal guilt of what he had done. He is slowly isolating himself from
society. Further revealing that alienation and guilt are the main themes of the novel
shown by Raskolnikov s actions, words, and thoughts.

If you are experiencing lower back pain, you are not alone. Nearly 80% of people will
have low back pain at some point in life, and it is one of the top reasons people
seek medical treatment. At Fick Chiropractic Centers, the premier chiropractic care
clinic in Springdale, Ohio, the doctors take a holistic approach to chiropractic care,
offering a variety of services that offer lower back painrelief. One of the most
effective tools for treating back pain is acupuncture.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine that involves inserting thin needles at
certain points on the body. Practitioners believe that there are more than 2,000 points
throughout the body that are connected by pathways, which create a flow of energy
called qi. Stimulating these points with metallic needles can correct an imbalance of
qi and improve the flow of energy in the body.... Show more content on

Acupuncture needles stimulate the central nervous system, releasing opioid peptides,
a naturally occurring chemical in the brain that plays a significant role in the
reduction of pain. Acupuncture can also be used to activate the hypothalamus and
pituitary gland, which alters the secretion of neurotransmitters and neurohormones,
further reducing pain. This stimulation of electromagnetic points on the body starts
the flow of endorphins, the body s natural painkillers.
When done by an experienced, trained acupuncturist at Fick Chiropractic Centers,
acupuncture is a safe and effective medical treatment for lower back pain. In addition
to acupuncture, Fick Chiropractic Centers also offers pain relief and injury treatment,
corrective exercise and lifestyle advice, and expert spinal and postural

CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETIST
To start with, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist provide anesthesia for surgical
procedures, such as therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetrical measures. They also
provide any related care needed; before and after surgical procedures. Similarly,
CRNAs provide emergency services and pain management services. They work on all
type of surgical procedures; from simpler ones to composite ones. Anesthetists are
responsible for drug dosage calculations, handling patient s pain levels and vital signs.
Anesthetists need to be able to communicate effectively so that patients feel
comfortable. They are required to support and stabilize patients, during trauma.
Per the university of Kansas medical Center, Certified anesthetists deliver many types
of services to the patients and they are divided into four categories: pre anesthetic
preparation and evaluation; anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; post
anesthesia care; and peri anesthetic and clinical support functions. CRNAs mostly
work in operating rooms, but they also offer anesthesia services in other areas, for
instance, MRI units, cardiac catheterization labs, and lithotripsy units.

Subject Matter The painting is part of a series of canvases with mythological
themes. Since antiquity Apollo the embodiment of the high, the spiritual principle

was a symbol of the high purpose of art, and Ban with Marsyas a symbol of vulgar,
coarse pseudo catering to the crowd and wakes up in her base instincts. The
appearance of a satyr Marsyas nothing like the ideal of beauty. The artist depicts
him as if he was a messenger of hell. The main idea of the complex and dramatic

who cynically use art to awaken in man instincts and passions. This painting is

the pain and suffering from the cruelty of Apollo and regret for what he did. The

24. Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report
As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report
is massive. A poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the
outcome of each case. There are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that
will change a poorly written report to a well written one.
The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves
as I or me. Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the
investigation. It will look good to those reading your report, and also sound good to
those who will hear your testimony. This will let the reader know that is was the
officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a separate person
recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing in
the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should
be written in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency,
therefore creating a report that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to
use an active voice in your report. This style of writing shows who is doing an action,
instead of a passive voice which shows who is having something done to them. This
will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the action before stating the
action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order. Starting all
reports with the date and time and how you as an officer got involved,

Olive Senior s two collections of short stories, Summer Lightning and other stories
(1986) and Arrival of the Snake Woman and other stories, (1989) are the literary
works I have chosen to discuss three Caribbean based themes. The three themes
chosen are Adolescence, Rastafari and Sexism as shown by Olive Senior from her
short stories Summer Lightning, The boy who loved ice cream and The Two
Grandmothers. Summer Lightning consists of ten stories in which Senior uses child
protagonists in order to highlight and criticize some aspects of the society they grow

in. Each story focuses on the lives of children from different economic and social
backgrounds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each grandmother represents one of the realms I have described. Its structure is
particularly helpful as it alternatively presents the protagonist s conversations with
her mother, which are full of questions and doubts about the things she cannot
understand in her visits to each of her grandmothers. The ending of The Two
Grandmothers shows how the binary opposition existing between a despised black
and an overvalued white way of life makes it easier for the protagonist to let herself
be led by the mainstream of American influence. However, as senior herself has put
it, ...those very same people in later life come to realise come to appreciate the real
culture, the traditional culture. So I guess there is hope for her (Glaser, 1994:

traced back thousands of years to ancient Egyptian times. The Egyptians would
ground their meat and shape them in the form of patties. However, as time

of cheese. It said that Louis Ballast was the first to add cheese to the burger. He

heated cheese to the burger, and voila, history was made! If you found this little

28. Bildungsroman Essay
Bildungsroman After studying the term Bildungsroman, I have drawn the conclusion
that the novel Oranges are not the Only Fruit would fall directly underneath this
genre of literature. Bildungsroman is defined as a novel of formation or a novel of
someone s growth from childhood to maturity. (Lynch) In this formation, there are a
few key elements that must be present for a novelto fall under this specific genre.
To begin, one of the first criteria is that the story must be autobiographically based.
(Birk) We know that this is true when we meet the protagonist, Jeanette, of the story.
The most obvious evidence of this is that the author named the protagonist after
herself: Jeanette. She also gave them some of the same ... Show more content on

This growth is oftentimes attained through hardship. (Birk) Hardship for Jeanette
occurs throughout the story. It displays a picture of a roller coaster that starts as
soon as Jeanette s first, sexual encounter with someone of the same sex, Melanie,
takes place. After Jeanette tells her mother about it, her mother tells their pastor
and he openly speaks out against their sin and specifically points them out. This is
beginning of Jeanette s breaking away, for she openly disagrees with the pastor.
When she flees, she meets Miss Jewsbury, and they sleep together. The very next
day, Jeanette is met by the elders of her church who have come over to perform an
exorcism, which doesn t work. Jeanette is forcefully locked in her room for 36
hours and is not fed during this period of time. Then, she fakes repentance and gets
back involved with the church. She starts to teach and lead, and then she meets
Katy. She has an affair with Katy, and the church kicks her out. Her mother also
seemingly disowns her. Jeanette lives on her own and works in a hospital, a funeral
parlor, and drives an ice cream truck.
In conclusion, Jeanette s greatest growth is seen by coming into herself and being
content with who she really is. More of this growth is noticed by Jeanette s
compassion for other people that, for some reason, was never shown to her.
Moreover, the blueprint for a story that falls under the category of bildungsroman
directly correlates to the construction of

31. Summary Of Racism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
In an interview with Chinua Achebe, a renowned professor of Language and
Literature in African Studies, Caryl Phillips discusses the topic of Joseph Conrad
and the claim made by Achebe in his lecture, An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad
s Heart of Darkness , that Conrad was a racist and his novella, Heart of Darkness, was
not an attack on imperialism, but rather, a philosophical analysis on the psyche of the
European mindas a result of colonization. Attempting to understand the reasons
Achebe claims Conrad is a racist, Phillips travels to Bard College, where Achebe
teaches, to discuss Achebe s viewpoints and reasons for his famous lecture. Two
main points are made relatively quickly: Conrad s obsession of the word nigger
and his descriptions of Africans when he first arrives in the Congo. Conrad,
according to Achebe, degrades and dehumanizes his African counterparts by only
describing their limbs and appendages, treating them as animals more so than
human; in the one instance where more description is given, he is out of place in
society. The natives are ugly, yet somehow not inhuman; the use of litotes creates
an inferior image of the people of the Congo. Some claim that because Heart of
Darkness is told by the perspective of Marlow, Conrad is not a racist, but simply
retelling a story and allows the reader to analyze the meaning behind it; Achebe
argues that the only reason for this distance is to remove the blame and accusations
upon Conrad for his views on

Any children that may be on the at risk register must be supported by both the
school and outside agencies that are appropriate to their needs. It is the
professional adults responsibility to ensure that children and young people are
aware of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Question 2b (Weighting: 0) An
explanation of the importance of a child or young person centred approach. It is
critical that a person centred approach is always used with issues regarding
safeguarding. The most important aspect is ensuring that you listen to the child to
gain all the relevant information that will allow you to understand their needs.
Where appropriate children should be involved in any meetings that discuss them
where you respect what they have to say and ask for their opinions. Children and
young people should be able to trust you so that they feel comfortable talking to
you about any issues. If a child trusts you, they are more likely to confide in you
and express their feelings therefore any actions that need to take place are more
likely to happen at a much greater pace. It will allow any authorities or
organisations involved to gain vital information and therefore reach a more suitable
solution. If a child centred approach is not followed, then major information could
be missed. An example of this is when a little by; Daniel Pelka was murdered by his
mother and her partner. Agencies did not involve the child and only considered the
explanations
33. The Effect Of Fine Motor Skills And Vocabulary
Development
The recent shift from handwriting to typing in early schooling is largely due to the
introduction of computers into the classroom. While this allows students accesses to
more information than ever before, there could be cognitive detriments to this sudden
introduction to technology in the classroom. This is a critical period for children
who are undergoing an extensive expansion of their gross and fine motor skills. Fine
motor skills are considered the movements of children s small muscles, including
fingers, toes, lips, and tongue. These are paired with gross motor skills, such as
running, catching, and throwing, which allow young children to go and explore their
world. Interaction with their surroundings is important for cognitive development
(Berk, 2010). In turn this means if an aspect of motor development is hindered it
could effect cognitive development as well. While it is well known that drawing is
linked to advances in fine motor skills, the action of handwriting is less understood.
It is understood however that Fine motor skills and vocabulary development
generally indicate a positive relationship. (Suggate Stoeger, 2014). Typing is
becoming the emphasis in early schooling, whereas handwriting has recently taken a
backseat. Research seems to indicate that typing does have an effect on fine motor
skilldevelopment, however there are multiple factors when considering cognitive
development. The following studies show what type of relationship these variables
have
34. Heidegger s Relationship Between Poetry And Poetry
In the words of Heidegger, the poem is a vortex that snatches us away not gradually,
but suddenly, and thus we are drawn into a conversation. Understanding of poetry is
essential to Heidegger s philosophy. There are two notions, which seem to stand at
opposite poles, which are poetry and technology. They seem to be opposed forms of
truth. In modern civilization, we see the world through our technology, but there was
a time when the truth was seen through poetry.
Holderlin (1770 1843) a symbol of the German Romantic Movement had a great
impact on Heidegger s poetic thinking. In his various treatises, Heidegger clarifies his
intent in studying thought through poetry and to enter into the truth of the poems
studied. Heidegger believed that language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have to use the same language for everyday life and to describe the essence of
beings. Poetry can answer this difficulty, a standing as a golden mean between
familiar language and deep language. There is a difference in the mental effort we
exert when we read a common novel and a sophisticated poem. Poetic language
uses uncommon terms and this makes us think deeply about the words, as
compared to common speech. Philosophy is a fruitful field, but Heidegger wanted
to recognize some of its weaknesses that are related to the language we use that
often conceals as much as it reveals. Our task is to let things be and to uncover
them. Poetry is a powerful vehicle for
35. The Two Most Important Underlying Factors Of
Informalisation
2.3. Principles of Informalisation
The two most important underlying factors of informalisation are exit and exclusion
. They help us determine the nature and root of informality across various countries.
Informality due to Exclusion is stringent, and costly regulations and also lack of
opportunities to work in the formal sector for a certain section of the society, force
labourers to see informal sector as the only option left and they work in substandard
conditions for lower wages. On the other hand, informality arising out of Exit is
mainly due to poor benefits of being formally employed, lack of trust amongst public
institutions and preference of individual for self employment. Exit in particular
includes the young and elderly with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They measured informal sector based on migration unemployment and difference in
development in the two sectors of the economy. This model further explains that the
urban rural migration phenomenon is due to difference between the urban rural
income expectations. High volume of urban rural migration is taking place in
developing countries and less developed countries, leading to high level of
unemployment in urban areas; such areas are study areas for this model. This model
states that out migrants move to urban areas expecting higher incomes however their
main source of the income is retained in rural areas i.e. agricultural land. But other
literature suggests that these migrants settle in urban areas and are employed in the
urban sector. The model was extensively followed in the 1960 s, but with the advent
of globalisation it became an equally urban phenomenon. The main reason behind
this is that globalisation along with technological advancement made it easy for
people to engage in the informal sector. Hence people increasingly entered the
informal sector in urban areas. Most of them due to low skills and no or little
education acquired casual jobs with wages less than the minimum
36. A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital
A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five
teens suffer from a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994
(Dignan). Earbuds and headphones have contributed to these numbers since using
these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds and headphones have
caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest volume
they can go.
To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking
many components to transfer the sound throughout the ear. There are three parts of an
ear, the outer, middle, and inner ear. The sound starts in the outer ear where it is
heard, then transmitted through the auditory system toward the eardrum. The ... Show

Many international health organizations say that this is the leading disability
throughout the world and much of it can be prevented, since many of the causes
can be fixed by changing the person s approach to it. For example, if someone is
attending a concert, it would be a good idea to get earplugs according to Susan
Kaplan, an audiologist with the UC Davis health system (Meyer). However, not
many people do this and as a result, have substantial hearing loss. A symptom of

different noises in one or both ears or in the head, with no external cause. There are
two types of tinnitus, objective or subjective. Subjective is usually connected with
hearing loss, since it means only the person experiencing the problem can hear the
sounds. There are many ways to test people to see if they have tinnitus or some
kind of hearing loss. A few ways are a physical examination of the person s head
and neck, The Rinne and Weber tests, magnetic resonance angiography or
venography, or a blood count ( Tinnitus ). These can tell which ear is damaged and

37. Addiction Of Social Media Addiction
Introduction: Addiction is defined as a compulsive need for a particular
obsession. When social media was created, the thought of it turning into an
addiction was not a concern. In 2017, 81 percent of Americans have user profiles
on social media and are expected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2018 (Statista).
Although businesses are advancing through the rapid growth of social media,
isolation is also advancing because many now rely on social media as a way to
interact with society. Due to the increase of online users, social media is now
linked to the increase in isolation. While businesses, schools, and technology are
advancing an argument can be made that social media is reducing social
interaction. On the flip side an argument can be made that social media increases
people s thought processes and networking skills in communities that do not only
rely on proximity. Much research has been done on the increase and decrease of a
person s feelings of isolation through their use of social media. Side One why
social media causes isolation: Social media has become a barrier for many
between real and virtual life in which users find comfort by hiding their true selves
behind their media created profile. Social interactions are now seen as a
frightening experience that many young adults find difficulty facing. Elizabeth
Miller states that It s possible that young adults who initially felt socially isolated
turned to social media (Miller) . Online social interaction is deemed easier because
there is a physical barrier involved. By hiding behind a profile, being yourself is an
option, you can create your own story and not worry about immediate responses.
For example, teenagers discovered an outlet on the social media platform of
Instagram by creating an alternative account known as a finsta . Finstas, short for
fake Instagram, are private accounts intended to share personal pictures and ideas
only to closest friends. These accounts are shared inside a smaller social circle and
the user can use a false name. They can post, their good, their bad and their ugly
truths and feel safe that these are only shared within a select and trusted group.
Research has shown that users have trouble disconnecting from such accounts,

This spacecraft also had solar panels that recharged the fuel battery and to boost
power flow. In the early years of the space program, when the Mariner 1 was
launch, this was very robust, sound, and an advanced piece of machinery. The
reason why NASA and JPL made this spacecraft sophisticated was because a
couple years before 1962 there were two missions that had a stated objective to
conduct a Venus flyby however both rockets failed. The cost of Mariner was $18.5
million dollars, but in today s world it s roughly $135 million.
Reasons why the Mariner 1 failed launched became historic was partially due to a
very avoidable error, which NASA described as a, hyphen in the data editing .
However, days leading up to launch there was speculation that NASA officials were
working under a very tight schedule with a launch window of 45 days, and that gave
little time under such pressure to launch another spacecraft to Venus. Also, since this
mission was extremely technological, there was much attention by newsgroups and
the public, this made the mission very high profile and added to the amount of tense
pressure for launch.
Causes of Failure There was not one concise reason that led to the failure of Mariner

40. Immigration Patterns In Australia Essay
Background
To provide a context for this study, it is necessary to understand Australia s changing
immigration patterns. From its earliest occupation, Australia has attracted immigrants
globally, Australia has had a long history of immigration since the first European
settlement in the 1700s. People from all parts of the world have brought with them,
their cultures, customs and languages (Creswell, 2004).
Western Australiais the fastest growing state in Australia and the dynamics of this
population change now corroborates that the number of immigrants have excelled the
number of natural births. Current census data (Australian Bureau of Statistics) for
2013 2014 shows that even though the net overseas migration for Australia (212,700

41. Chronicles Of A Death Foretold
My understanding of the culture in Chronicles of a Death Foretold has deepened
through the Interactive Oral in which my classmates and I had in class. Most of the
conversation dealt with Latin American culture and how honors, religion, and morals
in which Hispanics grow up in are distinct compared to other foreign countries. We
debated whether or not if other religions would have had a unlike perspective upon
the actions of the Vicario brothers or the actions in which Angela Vicario made upon
losing her purity. In addition, we questioned the culture; what if the novel would have
taken place in a different country with the complete opposite culture? What would be
different? We approached these questions by not only depicting the country in which
42. Pros And Cons Of Drake
Drake s highly anticipated and unnecessarily hyped album has dropped, and it is
disappointing when comparing it to his previous work. This follow up to his
mixtape, if you re reading this it s too late, is an emotional and spacey project, with
drake seemingly riding the horse of fame to make his music. The only half decent
track is the opening track, Keep the Familyclose, having a simple melody to it,
having drake express his feelings of knowing who to trust. It gives off that
emotional vibe drake had in Take Care. It still features some struggle bars, such
as_____, giving a sneak peak to the rest of the disaster. The follow up tracks of the
albu follow suit, progressively getting worse. The track popstyle, a track that was

43. The Gray Wolf-Personal Narrative
It was the time of year when each exhale drew a cloud of fog, and a fine layer of
frost covered everything, freezing the world and holding it in place. The sun, high
in the sky, would offer no solace. It hung, suspended in time, gazing upon the earth
with uninterested eyes. The gray skies had absorbed into my body, and my veins
ran cold and bitter. Winter came as a gray wolf, and it devoured the golden
summer lambs. Now the gray wolf perched by my side, its muzzle pointed
precariously at my neck. My summer lamb lay slain at my feet. And with its
murder, my self esteem, my self worth, my cheerful happiness collapsed. I found
myself lonely and empty. The highest point in my life was the summer before
freshman year, and the fall leading into it. I absolutely adored myself, and I began
to expect things. In all other points in my life, I had been a loner, eccentric and
erratic. But with a haircut, a new eyeliner pencil, and a new wardrobe, a blindfold
slipped over my eyes and I felt fearless. Never before had I felt so comfortable in my
own skin, and I never wanted it to stop. Expectations arose. I expected that friends

My lamb had stumbled along for the whole semester, but that January it was
pierced and fell. Sweat clung to my back, though it was frozen and gray outside, I
had just finished running laps in my PE class. My cheeks were flushed, and I felt
as if I looked absolutely disgusting. Warily, I eyed the lunch line, and proceeded to
scan the cafeteria. My cellphone screen flashed on, and I had two minutes until the
bell rang. Pulse racing, I desperately tried to figure out where I would sit. My only
friends were torn from me in the brutal schedule change, and I was alone in a new
territory. The first thought entered into my mind, and its venom streamed through
me. What happened to your dreams now? It hissed to me. Where are your
44. The Electronic Toll Collection in Malaysia, Questions and...
Introduction (Maximum 2 pages)
Two decades ago, the answer of the following question of possibilities of cash
disappeared as a payment method is clearly No . Cash represents as financial
transaction of any products or services. The idea of having a cashless world has been
thinking long times ago.
The risks of handling cash are high compared to electronic money including toll fares.
The introduction of electronic payment system has created an opportunity for the
other payment system to be begun. It may be difficult for cash to be as payment
method to complete with new emerging payment system (Taylor, 2006).
The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in Malaysia has been introduced in the year
1994 at PLUS Expressway. It has evolved since then many changes have been
made. ETC consists of system and device that must be used together. It is types of
complementary items. To use the SmartTag, users must have Touch n Go card. The
ETC penetration has been grown steadily on June 2006. The average ETC
penetration rate nationwide is 37% and 50% for Klang Valley toll highways.
Electronic Toll Collection is a technology enabling the electronic collection of toll
payments. This system is capable of determining the car is registered or not, and then
informing the authorities of toll payment violations (Khadijah and Dr. Wahid, 2010).
Example of violation that can be recorded is exemption violation and also long
journey time.
ETC is the system that offers electronics passes that can be

(Walmart, 2012) The company announced a $750 million, 73 store expansion plan in
early 2012. A. Country Competitiveness A large multinational company such as
Walmart experiences different opportunities and challenges in the countries in which
it does business. Walmart being the largest retailer in the world, must adapt to varying
business environments. Canada s competitiveness relative to Walmart s expansion is
viewed through Porter s diamond framework. Country Level Determinants The
passage of NAFTA represented an enticing opportunity for Walmart to capitalize on
the discount store industry, of which only Zellers and K Mart had a presence in.
NAFTA also paved the road for Walmart s expansion into Canada. The agreement had
the intention of creating job and economic growth as well as eliminating tariffs and
controls on goods transported amongst the three countries. This phenomenon of
internationalization created openness and capability for Walmart to capitalize on
goods production in one country, followed by movement and sales in the other.
Moreover, currency valuation in present day represents an opportunity for retailers to
expand into the Canadian market. Due to the strong Canadian dollar, the economic
conditions are enticing for any retailer looking to expand a key reason why Target has
transitioned into the market. At the time of acquisition, Woolworth took ownership of
the $45 million

Discuss the relative importance of physical and human factors in accounting for
changes to vegetation over time within ecosystems in the British Isles (40 marks)
The British Isles can be found in the Northern Hemisphere where deciduous forest is
the main biome. Here physical and human factors have accounted for changes to the
vegetation for many years. Human factors can include tourism, agriculture,
urbanisation, interception and deforestation. Physical factors can be such things as
natural disasters, succession and diseases.
The human factor of interception can vary between many situations. For example,
humans can intercept and alter the vegetation through predator control. By reducing
the predators which feed upon that particular ... Show more content on

For example, the chemicals could leak into a local water supply through surface
runoff and eutrophication could occur. This is where an algae bloom takes place
resulting in the depletion of oxygen disabling plants such as pondweed to respire
and therefore die. These then decompose and with a high build up of toxic chemicals
the fish of the freshwater lake or pond then die too.
A physical factor which can alter the vegetation of an ecosystem within the British
Isles can be natural disasters. There are a range of natural disasters that take place
all over the world but the ones most common in the British Isles are forest fires,
floods and earthquakes. Irrespective that the value on the Richter scale is usually
quite low a lot of vegetation can still be disrupted. Small plants can be uprooted and
even fallen debris from damaged properties can fall upon an ecosystem and damage
the already existing plants resulting in another physical factor secondary succession
leading to other species colonising the land and becoming the dominant species.
In addition, forest fires and floods act in a similar way. For example, in 2004 in
Boscastle there was severe flooding which resulted from a large amount of
precipitation that the water basin just couldn t hold. This led to increased surface
runoff and high saturation of the soil, decreasing it stability. With much of the
48. Quebec Nationalism And Quebec Secessionism
It is crucial to understand the population of Quebec in terms of how likely certain
demographics are to support sovereignty. Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note
that constituencies with a high percentage of young adults are very likely to be in
favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be due to the fact that young voters
provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the province (Duchesne,
Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements are
becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions
are high, such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally,
ridings with high numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support
sovereignty and parties such as the Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is,
these individuals directly experienced the surge in confidence and economic
advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to the province
(Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from
Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a
viable and legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Overall,
support for Quebec sovereignty is not divided amongst age groups, allowing Quebec
regionalism to survive within various generations, thus the sovereignty movement
continues to exist with young people in the present and in future political shifts in
secessionist
