Ferdinand Magellan and English explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan
was a young Portuguese man who enlisted under the Spanish king before he began
his expedition to go on a trip around the world on the 10th of August in 1519 (
Ferdinand 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune and fame, and he
left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands (
Ferdinand Magellan ). Sir Francis Drakeled the English voyage for maritime
exploration, sailing off in 1577 with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South
America via the Straits of Magellan ( Francis ). Both voyages and explorers were
met with several challenges in which they had to quickly resolve. The first of the
many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey occurred after they were
docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this time that
three of the ships rose up against the Captain major, their captains saying that they
intended to take him to Castile in arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction (
Ferdinand 2). While this mutiny was the first of his challenges, it was quickly
taken care of by Ferdinand, who had one of the captains executed and another
excommunicated. Although he started out his exploration with 5 ships, he sailed
away from the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was sent ahead and was
shipwrecked due to severe weather. On October 21 of the same year, Magellan
entered the straight he was looking for that would later be named after him. Two
ships entered to see what was inside of the channels in the straight. From the two
ships that entered, one ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, entered into one of

Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could
not put it down. This was because chapters were short and they always left the
reader at a cliff hanger. Burpo did a outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and
wanting more by somehow creating cliffhangers after every chapter. Whether it was
whether Colton was going to make it out of surgery or mid conversation about
Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start the next chapter to
find out the answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents.
While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many
skeptics (including myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and
predictable. All of Colton s experiences follows a pattern. He tells his father little
detail out of the blue. His father experiences a gasp or feels his heart skip a beat.

goods in our world. Good Friday occurring meant that the world could be saved from
death. No matter the degree, I believe that all evil can result in some good.
Natural evils can result in solidarity amongst communities and love and support to

humans and was due to the nature of our world. These include events such as natural
disasters like Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday Bushfires. This type of evil brings
traumatic effects and devastate communities through loss of lives and destruction.
Typhoon Haiyan occurred in 2013 and caused a devastating 6,340 fatalities. The Ash
Wednesday Bushfires took place in 1983 causing 75 deaths and injuring thousands
more.
After the terror of Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday, countless people around the
globe shared their love, aid and support to the affected. This is evident through
volunteers helping relief activities through programs like Caritas. People around the

Toshiba s history dates back to 1875 in Japan. For the fiscal year ending March 31,
2015,
Toshiba s net worldwide sales were greater than $63 billion and employed more
than 200,000 people worldwide (Carpenter, 2015). In April of 2015, the company
came forth and made an announcement that it was having accounting problems.
However, the severity of the scandal became known early in September 2015
(Addady, 2015). The shares took a dive after the April announcement. In July 2015,
CEO Hisao Tanaka resigned after facing this accounting scandal and was a direct
link to $1.2 billion in overstated profits (Carpenter, 2015). Toshiba s first remedy
was a management change. The company overstated its earnings close to $2 billion
over the past seven years (Addady, 2015).

(the status of aristocracy) in the hands of Lopakhin (the new commercial class), the

It is down to the ruthlessness of Western people and their desire for money that has

semester I thought, Oh my god, I have to go to some stupid AA meeting. In the
weeks prior to attending the meeting, I was very nervous about attending it because

Some of them were very surprising to me and I will mention them in a later section.
DURING As the meeting started, we began with a serenity prayer and read the
twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. The second step was the focus of the
meeting. I stared at the poster containing the step because it took me quite some
time to interpret what it meant. This step states: Came to believe that a Power
greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. My interpretation was that an
alcoholic had to believe that a power such as God or another deity could cleanse

when I wanted to. If anyone disagreed with me, I would do whatever it took to have
that person agree with me. It was my way or the highway. With those statements,
Marshall admitted that when he was drunk, his temper got the best of him. After
