Exploration of the oceans was very popular during the time of Spanish explorer
Ferdinand Magellan and English explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan
was a young Portuguese man who enlisted under the Spanish king before he began
his expedition to go on a trip around the world on the 10th of August in 1519 (
Ferdinand 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune and fame, and he
left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands (
Ferdinand Magellan ). Sir Francis Drakeled the English voyage for maritime
exploration, sailing off in 1577 with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South
America via the Straits of Magellan ( Francis ). Both voyages and explorers were
met with several challenges in which they had to quickly resolve. The first of the
many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey occurred after they were
docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this time that
three of the ships rose up against the Captain major, their captains saying that they
intended to take him to Castile in arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction (
Ferdinand 2). While this mutiny was the first of his challenges, it was quickly
taken care of by Ferdinand, who had one of the captains executed and another
excommunicated. Although he started out his exploration with 5 ships, he sailed
away from the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was sent ahead and was
shipwrecked due to severe weather. On October 21 of the same year, Magellan
entered the straight he was looking for that would later be named after him. Two
ships entered to see what was inside of the channels in the straight. From the two
ships that entered, one ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, entered into one of

Evil is the extreme moral wickedness that results in the suffering of others. This can
come in two forms, physical evils and moral evils. Good is moral right that

goods in our world. Good Friday occurring meant that the world could be saved from
death. No matter the degree, I believe that all evil can result in some good.
Natural evils can result in solidarity amongst communities and love and support to

humans and was due to the nature of our world. These include events such as natural
disasters like Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday Bushfires. This type of evil brings
traumatic effects and devastate communities through loss of lives and destruction.

Wednesday Bushfires took place in 1983 causing 75 deaths and injuring thousands

Toshiba s history dates back to 1875 in Japan. For the fiscal year ending March 31,
2015,
Toshiba s net worldwide sales were greater than $63 billion and employed more

came forth and made an announcement that it was having accounting problems.
However, the severity of the scandal became known early in September 2015
(Addady, 2015). The shares took a dive after the April announcement. In July 2015,
CEO Hisao Tanaka resigned after facing this accounting scandal and was a direct
link to $1.2 billion in overstated profits (Carpenter, 2015). Toshiba s first remedy
was a management change. The company overstated its earnings close to $2 billion
over the past seven years (Addady, 2015).

(the status of aristocracy) in the hands of Lopakhin (the new commercial class), the

One section I found interesting is the differing occupations of the people in the room.
Some of them were very surprising to me and I will mention them in a later section.
DURING As the meeting started, we began with a serenity prayer and read the
twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. The second step was the focus of the
meeting. I stared at the poster containing the step because it took me quite some
time to interpret what it meant. This step states: Came to believe that a Power
greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. My interpretation was that an
alcoholic had to believe that a power such as God or another deity could cleanse
his or her mind of this insidious disease. As it turned out, I was half right and half
wrong. The first speaker was named Marshall. Marshall is a successful
businessman and has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over ten years.
He relayed his story about how his Power restored him to sanity. Marshall said that
prior to becoming a member, he knew everything. I could do anything I wanted to
when I wanted to. If anyone disagreed with me, I would do whatever it took to have
that person agree with me. It was my way or the highway. With those statements,
Marshall admitted that when he was drunk, his temper got the best of him. After
becoming a member, Marshall along with many of the members of the group was
able to complete the first step with ease. The second step,
53. The Act Of Brainwashing In Ira Leving s This Perfect Day
The act of brainwashing is involuntary reeducating oneself of basic beliefs and
values. This concept explains why totalitarian regimes have the ability to control a
government using science. In Ira Leving s This Perfect Day, a story about a
futuristic dystopia, drug tranquilizers are inserted monthly in each person s body.
The purpose of this narcotic is to force people to behave in a particular manner.
With the drugs in effect, everyone will remain satisfied with life, disregarding if
this is how they personally want to live. The act of choice is taught to be a
manifestation of life because that is what the drugs encourage. This allows the leader
to control everyone s thoughts and beliefs so they do not rebel against who is in
opposition.
54. Analysis Of Tuesdays With Morrie
Changing is a process everyone goes through in their life whether it s for the best
or worst. It sometimes makes people do the things that they will regret or make
them proud of who they are. Most changes come from a turning point in life that
can lead people into believing that they have to be a certain way in order to succeed
in life. In the Memoir Tuesdays with Morrieby Mitch Albom, Mitch had changed
throughout the years after college but wasn t satisfied with who he was. That was
until Morrie came back into his life and became his Coach again after 16 years.
Albom writes about the changes he has experienced throughout Morrie s lessons by
using personal anecdotes, flashbacks and creating pathos in order to portray himself
as a dynamic character and how Morrie s value of love changed Mitch throughout the
whole story.
Albom uses flashback in the beginning when he gives Morrie a present at
graduation to show how Mitch was very close with Morrie, saying, I bought this that
day before...I didn t want to forget him (4). Mitch is able to show that all that
changed by using a personal anecdote of what occurred to him after college and
takes notice of how years after graduation hardened me(him) into someone quite
different (14). The death of Mitch s uncle was a huge turning point in his life. Mitch
left his dream of becoming a Musician and returned to school where he earned a
Master s degree in Journalism. In order to have happiness, Mitch believes he must
have a job that
55. Unforgiven Analysis
Lauren Kate s newest book, Unforgiven, is the latest novel from her Fallen series
that extends to a specific character s background story, Cameron Briel, known by
series fans as Cam. In the series, two main characters are reincarnated over centuries
of time in different life situations meeting each other in specific ages in their lives to
test the time and the limits of good and evil, (heaven and hell) to keep their true loves.
Like many of the prior novels, each chapter usually bounces back and forth
between the two primary characters of the book, in this case between Cam s point
of view and Lilith s point of view. Unforgiven is a well developed story that gives
