United Kingdom Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of the United Kingdom can be both challenging and rewarding.
The difficulty lies not only in the extensive historical and cultural tapestry of the nation but also
in the need to synthesize a vast amount of information into a coherent and engaging narrative.
The United Kingdom's rich history, spanning centuries, encompasses political, social, and
economic aspects, making it a multifaceted subject that demands careful research and analysis.
To start, delving into the historical context requires a comprehensive understanding of key events
such as the Magna Carta, the Tudor era, the Industrial Revolution, and the two World Wars.
Navigating through the complexities of the UK's political system, including its constitutional
monarchy and parliamentary democracy, adds an additional layer of intricacy. Addressing
contemporary issues, such as Brexit and its implications, also requires a nuanced perspective.
Cultural diversity is another dimension that adds to the challenge. From literature and art to
music and cinema, the UK has left an indelible mark on global culture. Incorporating these
cultural elements into an essay necessitates a careful balance between depth and breadth.
Furthermore, one must consider the dynamic nature of the UK's society, which has evolved over
time and continues to do so. Social issues, class structures, and ongoing debates about identity
and nationalism require meticulous attention and thoughtful exploration.
In terms of economic aspects, tracing the development from an industrial powerhouse to a
modern, service-oriented economy is essential. Factors such as the role of the City of London,
economic policies, and the impact of globalization contribute to the complexity of the topic.
In conclusion, while the intricacies of writing an essay on the United Kingdom may pose a
formidable challenge, the process allows for a deeper understanding of a nation with a rich and
diverse history. The key lies in meticulous research, critical thinking, and the ability to weave
together various threads into a cohesive narrative.

Analysis Of Norma By Sonia Sanchez
In an enchanting excerpt by Sonia Sanchez christened, Norma , Sonia concludes
the anecdote by turning away and never agreeing again. Sonia has disagreed to
many things, but not to a drug riddled woman predicting her kids would make it
against all odds. However, if one looks deeper into the text, it is clear the gesture
displays the author s opinion on the blatantly rigged system. The beginning of the
tale portrays Sonia as very shy... so conspicuous that [she] talked with [her] head

sleeping had demanded a standing position.(1) . In other words, someone who would

Susan Glaspell s Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers
Although A Jury of Her Peers and Trifles are similar in plot, Mustazza s article,
Generic Translation and Thematic Shift in Susan Glaspell s Trifles and A Jury of
Her Peers highlights the differences and similarities between the two. Mustazza s
article may help aid readers to understand the differences between Glaspell s two
works and provide understanding as to why Glaspell may have changed the genre
and form of the plot. Trifles is a dramatic play whereas A Jury of Her Peers is prose
fiction. While some differences may be seen on the surface, other differences will
need to be inspected closely. Mustazza s article may help one to understand Glaspell
s works by providing analysis and additional perspectives on both A Jury of her Peers
and Trifles .
The most obvious difference between Glaspell s two works is the title. The play is
entitled Trifles whereas the prose version is called A Jury of Her Peers . Both
titles draw the attention of the audience to different parts of the plot. Trifles
highlights the trivial household items in the plot whereas A Jury of Her Peers
accentuates the women s roles and how they question what is morally right
(Mustazza 489). Mustazza s article provides background knowledge and a reason
why Glaspell may have changed and retitled the prose version. Since women were
in the final years of fighting for the right to vote in 1917, changing the title from
Trifles to A Jury of Her Peers made the piece more contemporary and
Comparing The World Is Too Much With Us And God s
Grandeur
God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins and The World Is Too Much With Us by
William Wordsworth concur on the concept of nature versus the way society tends to
treat it; however, they express it in different ways through tone and figurative
language, such as metaphors and allusions.
Gerard Manley Hopkins seems to have an abstract outlook on the concept of nature,
taking it as a whole into great consideration and includes his personal religious
beliefs within God s Grandeur such as how the holy ghost is watching over nature
as it persists, which brings a positive side to the depressing reality (13 14). God s
Grandeur uses many types of figurative language and poetic elements; however, the
many metaphors and similes stand out the most for being the majority of the poem as
well as conveying the horrors of humanity to his audience. Hopkins writes, It will
flame out, like shining from shook ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The simile is based on foil, the thin sheet of metal, and compares it to the flame of
humanity; essentially, once the light is gone, it s the end and time is either wasted
or not, which Hopkins relates to shaking a piece of tinfoil and watching the light
quickly disappear. Surprisingly, this is one of Hopkins less puzzling similes, which
is shocking due to the fact that it seems to almost be a riddle. Aside from metaphors
and similes, one of the strongest points for works of Gerard Manley Hopkins is the
imagery, in which we see very dark flickers of what mankind has substantially come
to. An example of dark imagery would be Generations have trod, have trod, have
trod... (Hopkins 5). Repetition is also noticeable and significant in this line because it

The Chronicles of Narnia and The Bible
A myth is a way of making sense in a senseless world. Myths are narrative patterns
that give significance to our existence. ― Rollo May
Fiction has always been used as a way to relay different types of messages
throughout time. In many cases authors use fiction to make political commentary,
use stories to bring out the major flaws that society has, as well as a way to spread
different types of beliefs or ideals. C.S. Lewis s used his work, The Chronicles of
Narnia , to reiterate the messages of the Bible to those who might have gotten lost
during their lifetime. Though his whole series was full of connections the book that
have the most prevalent connections are The Magician s Nephew and The Lion, the
Witch and the Wardrobe. In both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis s version went like this,
Then two wonders happened at the same moment.... The second wonder was that
the blackness overhead, all at once, was blazing with stars. They didn t come out
gently one by one, as they do on a summer evening. One moment there had been
nothing but darkness; next moment a thousand, thousand points of light leaped out
single stars, constellations, and planets, brighter and bigger than any in our world.
There were no clouds. The new stars and the new voices began at exactly the same
time. If you had seen and heard it, as Digory did, you would have felt quite certain
that it was the stars themselves which were singing, and that it was the First Voice,
the deep one, which had made them appear and made them sing (C.S. Lewis 61).
This voice was Aslan, and his singing was what brought Narnia into creation. Now
this version is very similar to the creation story in Genesis. In Genesis, God speaks
and the world is brought into being. In the bible it is written, Then God said, Let
there be light ; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God
separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He
called night and there was evening and there was morning, one day... (Genesis). In
both, the creator was able to bring light and life from nothing. Thus these quotes are
the beginning of the parallel between Aslan and Jesus. Both were creators and
omnipresent beings, they are both larger than life.

Foreign Policies Affect US Foreign Policy
Foreign policies are created in the interests of achieving safeguards and regulations
that best suit the wellbeing of a country or region. The reason for such policies is
to maintain order and peace while also protecting certain aspects of daily life from
people who might want to do harm. During the past few years many policies have
been changed due to the changing world and ideologies of the people these policies
protect. Certain policies affect people more than others while some are made to
impact corporations, governments, regions or jobs. For instance global warming
issues have arised due to carbon dioxide levels rising, putting pressure on
corporations to put better practices on manufacturing goods, decreasing water supply
and use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a big issue since most parents want their kids to have some job experience
while in college or some have to help with their families. I currently hold a job in
Disneyland that many hispanic, asian and african american people have, in many
different age ranges who either help support their family or work insane hours to
just put food on the table. A lot of my friends work two jobs since disney doesn t
give out full time to everyone but lets people work 40+ hours a week with no
benefits and no raises. The companies don t want to spend money on wages or
wage increases, so they cut back on workers or hire workers who will settle for a
lower wage, these being illegal immigrants without documentation or outsourcing
these jobs to people overseas in which their country dont have the same regulations or
rules as we
The Development Of An Individual s Identity
The development of an individual s identity although it varies among individuals
usually requires both the primary and secondary level of socialization. Whether in
intimate family circles or social institutions, the socialization process that occurs
makes us who we are. On the basis of this, I will explain how agents in both primary
and secondary socialization process has shaped the way I developed myself and how
they will also continue to shape me throughout my life. I will do this by exploring
some tenets of Charles H. Cooley Looking Glass Self, Erik EriksonStages of
Development and Erving Goffman s Dramaturgy and the Presentation of Self. In my
analysis these theories are blended together to highlight their application in the
development of myself.
Coming from a very supportive and stable family (and extended family), my needs
as an infant were met, this allowed me to develop trust that people(especially
family members) will always be there for me. The supportive environment enabled
me to learn self sufficiency and also gain confidence in line with Erikson s first
and second stages of development (Trust vs. mistrust and Autonomy vs Shame and
Doubt). Although I experienced a positive psychosocial crisis in the first stage and
during the early part of the 2nd stage, there was also a negative crisis that spilled
into the 3rd stage (Carl Belanger, 2015). As a Tongue sucking child, my family
expected me to outgrow this during the later part of my Toddlerhood. Failing to
Solar Energy And Renewable Energy
The search for cost effective and efficient renewable energy is becoming an
increasingly important area of study. According to Sampaio, with the increase of
population and technologic and economic development, human beings need more
energy to create a better life environment. Fossil fuel energy sources, while cost
effective, have major environmental impacts that add to global warming, acid rain,
and climate change. One renewable resource that is sustainable and readily abundant
is solar energy, which is a reasonable and readily available replacement for fossil fuel
energy sources globally. Solar energy is considered renewable because it is a
natural source of energy that is not depleted when used, as it will take Harvesting
and converting the energy delivered to Earth by the sun makes sense in many
regions of the world. The sun is Earth s main source of energy and is the original
source of energy stored in fossil fuels. Rather than harvest dirty fuels that take
millions of years to form, why not go to the primary source of that energy and find a
way to harvest it like the plants that formed into fossil fuels did? The process of
converting light energy into electricity or heat is called photovoltaics. According to
Hosenuzzaman, photovoltaics is the direct conversion system that converts sunlight
into electricity without the help of machines or mobile devices. Solar radiation is
converted to electricity in materials that are called semiconductors. The material that

Summary Of The Spotted Fallow Doe
The spotted fallow doe was only one hundred paces from him, a shot so easy even
Merlin would have no problems. So when he missed it, the confused, yet critical
eye he gave the crossbow was laughable because it couldn t possibly have been his
fault. He had perfect form, had it full in his sights, and he shouldn t have missed
unless the crossbowwas faulty. Had he damaged it in some way on this hunt?
Arthur almost didn t hear Mithian s cheeky remark about his poor marksmanship
when her aim was true and her bolt hit the doe in its hindquarter. Her shot didn t
fell it, though, and there was very little blood to track. The king joined in the
search, combing the forest floor for a trail of blood they knew would be close by.
A less perceptive hunter would have missed the glint that caught his attention. Arthur
knelt in a comfortable squat and picked up a silver ring tied to a leather cord. When
he recognized the object, Guinevere s matching wedding band, the world closed in
around him, all the times he kissed her, held her, vexed her, laughed with her, and
every other moment in between spontaneously flash within his mind. The trail lost all
meaning.
What fickle chance had he of finding that ring, now discarded and forgotten on the
forest floor in the middle of nowhere? What was Fate trying to tell him? Stricken, he
looked to Merlin for answers he knew the servant wouldn t have.
Merlin kept the king s gaze only briefly, the guilt of constantly altering the destiny of

Essay On Lying In America
Boster, F. J., Kim, S. B., Levine, T. R. (2010). The prevalence of lying in America:
Three studies of self reported lies. Human Communication Research, 36, 2 25.
This essay starts out with a very startling revelation about prevalence of lying and
deception is in America. To the common eye, lying and deceptionis quite prevalent in
today s society. A good example of deception, in my opinion, would be how the NFL
tried to hide the truth of the Ray Rice incident. On another note, lying occurs when a
communicator seeks knowingly and intentionally to deceive others. This essay
discusses three studies that attempt to show us the understanding of the prevalence
of lying and deception in America. In Study 1, the researchers were intrigued by the
frequency of lies, which is their main reason for digging deeper into this topic. The
researchers want to test this claim by obtaining data from a large section of adult
population. They also found out that on average college students lie twice daily
versus the average adult lies only once daily. The methods used in Study 1 were
polling a question over the Internet. The researchers only qualifications to participate
in this study were that participants had to be over the age of eighteen. The researchers

Computer Science
Part 1 1.What are common carriers, local exchange carriers, and interexchange
carriers? A common carrier is a private company that sells or leases communication
services and facilities to the public. Common carriers are profit oriented, and their
primary products are services for voice and data transmissions, both over
traditional wired circuits as well as cellular services. Common carriers often supply
a broad range of computer based services, such as the manufacturing and marketing
of specialized communication hardware and software. A common carrier that
provides local telephone services (e.g., BellSouth) is commonly called a local
exchange carrier (LEC), while one that provides long distance services (e.g., MCI) is

Therefore, dedicated circuits require more care in network design than switched
circuits both in terms of locations and the amount of capacity you purchase. With
packet switched services, the user again buys a connection into the common
carrier cloud. The user pays a fixed fee for the connection into the network
depending upon the type and capacity of the service and is charged for the number
of packets transmitted. 13. Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4 circuits. T1
circuit is sometimes called a DS 1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1
circuits can be used to transmit data, but often are used to transmit both data and
voice. In this case, a time division multiplexer (TDM) provides 24 64 Kbps circuits.
Digitized voice using pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64 Kbps circuit so
T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a
rate of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed bundle of four T1 circuits. T3
circuits allow transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although most articles refer
to this rate as 45 megabits per second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1
circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the transmission medium for corporate
MANs and WANs because of their higher data rates. At low speed, these T3 circuits
can be used as 672 different 64 Kbps channels or voice channels. A T4 circuit
transmits at
Dna Digestion and Electrophoresis
DNA DIGESTION AND ELECTROPHORESIS
In this experiment we will be doing a process called as DNA digestion or also
known as restriction digest. A restriction digest is a procedure used in molecular
biology to prepare DNA for analysis or other processing. It is sometimes termed
DNA fragmentation, scientists Hartl and Jones describe it this way:
This enzymatic technique can be used for cleaving DNA molecules at specific sites,
ensuring that all DNA fragments that contain a particular sequence have the same
size; furthermore, each fragment that contains the desired sequence has the sequence
located at exactly the same position within the fragment. The cleavage method makes
use of an important class of DNA cleaving enzymes isolated primarily ... Show more

One of the most important reaction conditions which varies between different
restriction enzymes is the salt concentration. Enzyme buffers are specifically
formulated to provide the salt concentration for optimal enzyme activity. It is
important, therefore, that the correct buffer solution is used for a particular
restriction enzyme. [3]
For this experiment we also made use of agarose gel electrophoresis, which takes a
lot of time. Electrophoresis may be the main technique for molecular separation in
today s cell biology laboratory. In spite of the many physical arrangments for the
apparatus, and regardless of the medium through which molecules are allowed to
migrate, all electrophoretic separations depend upon the charge distribution of the
molecules being separated.
Electrophoresis can be one dimensional or two dimensional. One dimensional
electrophoresis is used for most routine protein and nucleic acid separations. Two
dimensional separation of proteins is used for finger printing , and when properly
constructed can be extremely accurate in resolving all of the proteins present within a
cell.
The support medium for electrophoresis can be formed into a gel within a tube or it
can be layered into flat sheets. The tubes are used for easy one dimensional
separations, while the sheets have a larger surface area and are better for two
dimensional separations.
In electrophoresis, proteins are separated on the basis of

Human Nature Of Frankenstein
Up to this day, scientists and theologians still try to figure out the meaning of life and
the purpose of humans, but what about what makes a human, what characteristics and
actions define a human? Stephen Covey states that Every human has four
endowments self awareness, conscience, independent will, and imagination. These
give us the ultimate humanfreedom.....The power to choose, to respond, to change
(Stephen Covey). In the book Frankensteinby Mary Shelley, Will Franz, the monster
is essentially more human because he displays the four endowments far more
throughout the book than his creator Victor Frankenstein.
To begin with, Will Franz displays the first endowment, self awareness in a way
that is relatable to many. Upon seeing the De Laceys, Will is astonished by their
presence Their grace, beauty... but how was I terrified when I viewed myself in a
transparent pool! When I became fully convinced that I was, in reality, the monster
that I am, I was filled with the bitterest sensations... (12.13). As humans, it s easy to
compare oneself to someone that is perceived to be better than oneself and
although Victor is truly human he tends to display a figure of superiority and tends
to have it all together which in reality no one does. In the quote, we see how Will
upon seeing the beautiful De Laceys instantly looks at his reflection in comparison
and is immediately discouraged at what he sees. Speaking for most people, it doesn t
matter how beautiful or graceful one is

her infant daughter Magda, and a young girl named Stella at a Nazi concentration

decision. Rosa thinks that it is useless to go after Magda first as her howling would
not stop because she will still not have the shawl (248) and she was confident her
daughter would not survive. But if she goes after the shawl first, Magda would put

Grand Theft Auto V Qualitative Gender
After an hour of frustration and an inability to find a topic for this qualitative
gender portrayal, I gave up and decided to play video games to relax. All of a
sudden, I sat staring at my TV screen completely dumbfounded as a nearly nude
woman popped up on the loading screen of Grand Theft Auto V. For very obvious
reasons, I was inspired to qualitatively analyze Grand Theft Auto V focusing
specifically on genderstereotypes and sexualization present in the game. In order to
accurately depict the video game s portrayal of gender I studied both the story mode
and online mode looking closely at the actions and speech, physical appearance, and
prevalence of females within the game.
After a brief analysis, it was quickly discovered that the
Midwife Case Study
A Swedish midwife who was fired from three hospitals for her refusal to participate
in abortion and lost a two year legal battle to seek exemption from the procedure has
decided to elevate her case to the European Court of Human Rights.
In an interview with Fox News over the phone, Ellinor Grimark said she was
initially hoping to remain in Sweden but has now moved to Norway, where she has
found a job which is not affected by her personal beliefs. The Swedish midwife had
sought to be exempted from assisting abortions because she believes in the dignity of
human life, but the court ruled against her on Apr. 12.
Grimmark claims that the hospital that fired her had discriminated against her
because of her stance on abortion. Speaking to a local newspaper at ... Show more

Are healthcare practitioners in Sweden to be forced to take part in procedures that
extinguish life, at its beginning or final stages?Somebody has to take the little

Aftonbladet in a statement. A midwife described to me how she had held an
aborted baby in her arms, still alive, and cried desperately for an hour while the
baby struggled to breathe. These children do not even have a right to pain relief. I
cannot take part in this.
Despite her views, the Swedish Appeals Court that the government can require
medical professionals to participate in abortions or face the risk of losing their

Ruth Nordström, Grimmark s legal representative from Scandinavian Human

Patient Education Essay
According to Healthy People 2012 there are more then 800,000 new cases of
diabetes each year, with the numbers on the rise. With this in mind, Healthy People
2012 has identified diabetes as their number five focus area. In order to reach their
goal of improving the quality of life for people with diabetes they have identified
diabetes teaching as their number one objective. Furthermore, in order to reduce the
number of complications of diabetes, Healthy People 2012 has identified footulcers as
their ninth objective. Through patient educationHealthy People 2012 hopes to reduce

size. With all these factors involved it becomes obvious that J.L. is a diabetic patient
in need of foot care teaching, in order to prevent further complications. After
identification of a patient teaching need the next step in the teaching process is
establishing a measurable goal. Teaching goals are broad in scope and set down what
is expected as the final outcome of the teaching and learning process (Wilkinson Van
Leuven, 2007, p. 538). In order to achieve a high level of standard, teaching goals
need to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. For our example,
the teaching goal for J.L. and his diabetic foot care is as follows: Client is able to
state five things he can do to prevent diabetic foot complications by the end of the
teaching session implemented on Sunday January 24, 2012. Specifically, the five
items J.L. will identify are to monitor and manage his diabetes, inspect feet daily,
wash feet with warm water while drying between toes and apply moisturizing cream
to feet daily (not between toes), avoid walking barefoot or with unfitted shoes, and
calling the doctor should he notice any changes in his feet. In this case the level of
prevention used, when implementing the diabetic foot care teaching, is tertiary
prevention. This intervention begins once the disease if obvious: the aim is to
interrupt the course of the disease,
The History Of Rap Music
This paper will trace the history of rap music (also known as hip hop). The origins
of this music are found in the experiences of urban African Americans during the
1970s. One of the most unique elements of rap music is its vocal style. In 1979, the
record Rapper s Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang defined this style with its use of
speedy staccato word play and verbal dexterity (Perkins 11). However, as pointed
out by one of rap s early leaders, Afrika Bambaataa, the true roots of this vocal style
are found in the previous developments of African American culture. These
developments include not only the traditional musical and storytelling styles
brought over from Africa, but also such things as the style of speech used by the
civil rights leader Malcolm X. Summing up Bambaataa s views on the roots of rap,
Perkins says: The rap tradition has been nurtured on the accumulated and residual
forms of African and African American music, verbal art, and personal style as
well as the constant process of self innovation within each of these elements (5). In
addition to its unique vocal style, rap music is also characterized by its innovative
approach to creating a musical background for the lyrics. This musical style was
developed in New York City during the 1970s by various DJ s (disc jockeys) such as
Kool Herc, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Caz. In particular, many people credit the
New Yorker Grandmaster Flash with the important innovation of creating a rhythmic

The Quality Of Life Of Sumner House
This research project explored the quality of life of Sumner House residents utilizing
the capability approach and addressed these questions: what opportunities residents
have to live a life they truly value and how they perceive their quality of life at
Sumner House. Based on six individual interviews, this study identified a number of
key capabilities for qualityof life perceived by Sumner House residents including
being healthy, receiving a high quality of care, being safe, being independent and
autonomous, having a social life, and conducting meaningful activities. The research
findings suggested that Sumner House provides residents with a range of
opportunities to achieve lives they have reason to value, especially capabilities for
control over life and occupation. Overall, interviewees expressed positive comments
about their quality of life.
Interpretation of findings
Some of the research findings further support those arguments about the quality of
life for older adults in earlier studies. First of all, the value of bodily health is
evident from the research. All participants wish to keep as healthy as they can.
Health condition is regarded to be linked to other valued capabilities such as safety
and independence. Therefore, Sumner House should continue to enhance residents
capability for health and delay the decline. Secondly, in accordance with results of
previous research, there is an evidence to show that residents can be taken care of
well at Sumner House and

distinctive marks or distinguishing characteristics of the Christian Church. For
example, although people built thousands of churches around the world, there is still
only one Church for the Christian religion. As the description of Body of Christ in

Battle Royal Symbolism
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. The use of
symbolism gives readers the ability to find deeper meanings that are beyond what s
described on paper. In Ralph Ellison s short story, Battle Royale , he uses
blindfolds, the battle royal, and the narration to symbolize exactly what African
Americans went through for equality and the struggle they had to endure. The
Battle Royal symbolizes the way African Americans have been treated throughout
history. The fight is between 10 African Americans in a ring, being controlled and
yelled at by wealthy white individuals. As the fight begins to progress the men
begin to yell racist and offensive words and remarks to the ones fighting, such as:
black bastard and nigger . This is a representation of our nation s white population
point of view towards black people. During the Battle Royal, it gives an insight on
exactly how belittled and talked down to African Americans were. The men treated
the fighters as if they were there superiors and found a sick sense of amusement in
the fact that they could control the black on black... Show more content on

Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection and Social
Darwinism...
While he was on the voyage of the H.M.S. Beagle, a man named Charles Darwin
viewed the relationship of plants and animals all over the world. He observed
organisms on islands off the coast of South America and those on the mainland. His
observations showed that these organisms were related, but not identical. This led
Darwin into believing that over time, organisms must adapt to suit their environment.
He explained his theories thoroughly in his book, On the Originof Speciesby Means of
Natural Selection.
Darwin decided it was possible for a species to change from one form and develop
into another over time. This led him to the notion that all life forms were not fixed,
but continuously changing or evolving. The other part of the ... Show more content on

Basically, they took Darwin s theory of natural selection, which was intended to
apply only to selection through genetic variability, and applied it to selection
between human groups differentiated by culture alone. The concept, referred to as
social Darwinism, embraced all efforts to apply Darwinian biology and evolution to
human society. Through the years, social Darwinism became widely popular and was
used to justify predatory capitalism, social classes, racial prejudices, and imperialism.
One of the many social Darwinists was a man named William Graham Sumner. In his
lectures and writings, Sumner became one of the leading proponents of laissez faire
economics and social Darwinism, opposing all government efforts to regulate
business or to combat social inequality.
In his book, That it is Not Wicked to Be Rich, Sumner spoke of social classes in the
United States. He argued that social existence was a competitive struggle among
individuals possessing different natural capacities and traits. Overall, those with
better traits succeeded, becoming wealthy and powerful, while those lacking in inner
discipline or intelligence sank into poverty. He felt that people who were poor we
born to be that way, and they could do nothing about. Because of this, Sumner was
against government assistance of any kind.

Sexism In Sports
The sport business industry has been deeply influenced by countless social,
economic, cultural, and legal issues since the 1800s all throughout the 1900s. A great
amount of those issues revolve around diversity and, more specifically, women s
equity in sports. The Battle of the Sexes tennis match where Billie Jean Kingdefeated
Bobby Riggs is one of the most prominent events from the 20th century that made a
significant mark on sports and the sport business world, particularly on women s
involvement in sports. The Battle of the Sexes was a key victory for women that
represented a major triumph over sexism in sports and brought about change in the
entire sport industry. The Battle of the Sexes tennismatch had a huge impact at the
time, as well as a prolonged impact throughout the years. It was held on September
20, 1973 at the Houston Astrodome in front of an estimated 4.8 million Americans
watching on national television and 30,472 spectators in attendance, the largest live
crowd ever recorded for a tennis match (Spencer, 2000, p. 386). With such a large
audience and a dominant victory, King revolutionized women in tennis, which over
time translated into all sports. Before the match, King, along with thousands of other
femaleathletes, consistently had to deal with endless bias and stereotypes, as stated
by Ware (2011), but after succeeding in this high profile competition, she changed the
minds of many and caused people to have increased interest in the athletic
Essay about Utilitarianism and Its Shortcomings
Utilitarianism is the argument that all actions must be made for the greatest
happiness for the greater number of people (Bentham, 42). However, utilitarianism
cannot always be the basis of one s decisions due to the fact that people need to look
out for their own pain and pleasure before consulting others wellbeing. I will first
explain the arguments of the utilitarianismideal. Then I willl explain why this
argument is unconvincing. Ultimately, I will then prove why people consider their
own happiness before considering others. Thus showing the utilitarianism view is
implausible due to the need for people to consider their own happiness when making
decisions or else they themselves will be experiencing the most pain and unhappiness.

Thus Bentham believes humans consider the possible outcomes of the acts they are
about to do before they do them by weighing the pleasures and pains of the act and
that we should try to strive for the greatest happiness for society as a whole when
choosing the acts we execute.
John Stuart Mill adds more arguments to Bentham s view of Utilitarianism, which
are important factors to consider when discussing this topic. Utilitarianism is the
idea to promote the greatest happiness to the general society as opposed to oneself
(Mill, 114). Each pleasure is said to have its own difference in quality, so people are
able to make the choice between two pleasures (115). Mill believes mental
pleasures reign more important than bodily pleasures seeing that bodily pleasures
are seen as inferior to the greater good (115). It takes a higher grade of pleasures to
make a human satisfied and pleased. It is better to be a human being dissatisfied
than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied (116). An
important factor for choosing higher pleasures over inferior pleasures is that you
only have time for one pleasure and if you chose the inferior pleasure it will be
wasted (117). However the standards of what is right and wrong are not decided by
the person s own happiness but the happiness of everyone who is concerned in the
decision (117). Being a Utilitarian forces you to stay an

Significance Of The Second Seminole War
In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first
examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway
slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida
in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these
campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment and protested by the
British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation.
The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain
to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and
the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the
utmost importance in 1821.
After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United
States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation
process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the
two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them
into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin
official removal of the Seminoles.
The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender
any land claims within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United
States, monetary funding, and a large reservation located in central Florida. The
location was designated far enough inland

2.1Textile sludge
Jahagirdar et al (2013) discussed the reuse of textile mill sludge in burnt clay
bricks. Textile mill sludge was mixed together with different proportion (5% to
35%) as the raw material in this study. The brick was fired at 600 to 800ВєC and for

Devices In The Oral Tradition In Homer s The Odyssey
Homer The Odyssey
Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, was originally performed as a song. The poem is
full of devices and compositional techniques that were used by the poet and which
contributed to the oral tradition of the poem. Other methods were used by the
improvising poet in order to make the task easier as well as to lyrically improve the
story which was being narrated. The Odyssey is made up of 24 books, representing
the 24 letters of the greek alphabet. The poem was originally performed by a bard
and the poem would be performed partly, depending on the request of the audience.
According to Foley John Miles (2007), regardless of the versions which we have
today of The Illiad or The Odyssey, an ancient Greek oral storytelling tradition ...

For instance, the scene where Odysseus is taking revenge in the suitors is very
violent, and the poet does not spare us any part of it. As he spoke his strong hand
reached for a sword that lay nearby a sword Agelaus had dropped when he was
killed. The soothsayer was struck full in the neck. His lips were still forming words
when his lopped head rolled in the dust. (Homer, The Odyssey, Book 22, lines 348
352, translated by Stanley Lombardo) since the poem was an oral one, the performer
had to make sure that the audience understand fully the scenes being narrated, thus
bringing to life those actions, even though they are detailed and violent.
Therefore, we can clearly say that Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, strictly
follows the oral tradition as we know it and has reached us today in a physical
format, as close as possible to the original poem. The oral technique has not been
disrupted in any way. Despite it being in a written form, the devices and
compositional techniques originally used by the poet has been respected and are
vividly present all throughout the poem. However, in no way does the fact that the
poem is a transition from an oral poetry to a written form affected its literary
Wearable Camera History
Abstract This report on innovative technology is based on wearable camera
technology. I used two internet sites to help me find out the history and how these
wearable cameras work. I used magazines, newspapers and journals to show how
different types of wearable cameras are being used today and the great impacts
they have had in our society. In several articles I found that the police departments
in different states use several brands of wearable cameras. Nutritionists use these
cameras to help people keep an accurate log of the food intake they are consuming.
Care givers and nurses are wearing the cameras in their field to help track dementia
patients. They record patients to show types of behaviors they displayed and then

Male and Female Paralysis in Dubliners
Critics widely recognized that each story within James Joyce s Dubliners contains a
theme of paralysis. In fact, Joyce himself wrote, My intention was to write a chapter
of the moral history of my country and I chose Dublin for the scene because that city
seemed to me the centre of paralysis (Joyce, letter to Grant Richards, 5 May 1906).
Contained in this moral history called Dubliners are twelve stories that deal with the
paralysis of a central male character and only four that deal with so called paralysis
within a central female character. It could be said that Joyce did this merely because
he is a male, therefore could write the character better. However, Joyce writes female

Essay on Censorship in Schools
Censorship in Schools According to Freedom of Speech by Gerald Leinwand,
Abraham Lincoln once asked, Must a government, of necessity, be too strong for the
liberties of its people, or too weak to maintain its own existence (7)? This question is
particularly appropriate when considering what is perhaps the most sacred of all our
Constitutionally guaranteed rights, freedom of expression. Lincoln knew well the
potential dangers of expression, having steered the Union through the bitterly divisive
Civil War, but he held the Constitution dear enough to protect its promises whenever
possible (8). Issues of censorship in public schools are contests between the exercise
of discretion and the exercise of a Constitutional right. The law... Show more content

it signifies government resting on the consent of the governed; liberty regulated by
law; the protection of the weak against the strong; security against the exercise of
arbitrary power; and absolute safety for free institutions against foreign aggression

authority was justified in determining appropriate methods to evoke and recognize
the glorious and liberating national sentiment (28). The answer, of course, was yes;
that governments were most certainly justified, as long as restriction was
accomplished in the service of liberty. Frankfurter went on: Except where the
transgression of Constitutional liberty is too plain for argument, personal freedom is
best maintained so long as the remedial channels of the democratic process remain

The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck Essay
John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath and Paul Thomas Anderson s There Will Be
Blood both explore the concept of the human condition and the qualities undermining
the circumstances of our sentient through the gripping lives of the two leading
protagonists. John Steinbeck explores Tom Joad as the main protagonist in The
Grapes of Wrathand connects his character with the audience through his
significantly adjuring transformation from ex con to selfless family man throughout
the text. Inversely, Paul Thomas Anderson explores Daniel Plainview as the main
protagonist in There Will Be Blood and connects his character with the audience
through unquestionable toughness and a considerable, enthralling transformation
from imposing businessman to selfish psychopath. Similarly, these two texts are
based in times of hardship, The Grapes of Wrath is fixed during the great depression
and There Will Be Blood is set during the early 1900 s when mining was difficult. The
two authors use the hardships of their main protagonist to demonstrate the different
ways in which humans can become affected by the pathway chosen regarding feeling
and emotion. Through the complexity of the two main protagonists, the authors make
direct opinions toward the human condition and the ability to change persona through
risky decisions and family influence.
The opening few scenes in each text describes the persona of each main protagonist
and perfectly represents the qualities they already posses. Anderson
Hindu Weddings
RELIGIONS PAPER (Need Title)
Extravagant clothing, succulent victuals, exquisite flowers, spectacular photography
and many other grand decorations are the foundation of a Hindu marriage. Hindu
marriages, like most other cultural wedding ceremonies, are deeply concerned with
their religious rituals and customs. Most ceremonies in the Hindu culture are family
oriented with great emphasis on entertainment and inspiration. Also, off course, the
amount of decorations and the extent to which the rituals are carried out depends
greatly on the class of the families in society. Wealthier families are inclined to spend
vast amounts of money into the wedding ceremony to make it extremely extravagant,
whereas the lower class families tend to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a number of pre marriage celebrations that are carried out, including the
engagement and other days on which families and friends get together and rejoice.
Other pre marriage celebrations consist of Mehndi, Sangeet, and Tilak. Mehndi,
also known as henna, plays a great role in the wedding celebrations. There is a
whole day devoted to the Mehndi Ceremony, which is performed by the bride s
side. There was a banquet hall booked for the Mehndi ceremony and close to three
hundred guests were invited. There was singing and dancing to traditional music,
remarkable diversity of foods, exquisite decorations with an elegant assortment of
mostly yellow flowers. The bride s friends and relatives performed wonderful
dances. The girls applied henna on the bride s hands and feet, making traditional
designs and patterns. The henna is supposed to symbolize passion and the strength
of love in the marriage and so the bride has to keep it on for a long time. The bride
was dressed in light yellow and white clothes, the colours symbolizing purity. After
the Mehndi Ceremony, the bride is not allowed to the leave the house until on her
marriage day. Between the Mehndi Ceremony and the marriage day there is a night
devoted to Sangeet. Sangeet merely just means music. It is mostly considered the
most enjoyable and entertaining night as friends and family just dance all night long.
Sangeet was held at the bride s house and mostly the friends and relatives of the bride
Space Hazards ( Neo s )
Jasmine Mumphrey ESS102 Research Essay 4/20/2017 Space Hazards (NEO s)
Earth may seem gigantic to us, but in relation to outer space we are just a tiny
little particle orbiting the sun in the middle of the galaxy. Since the Earth openly
travels around in orbit throughout the universe, like any other planet or star, it is
prone to impact from space hazards. In this case, space hazards are objects or
materials in space that pose a potential threat or risk to the Earth itself and life on
Earth. Common space hazards that effect Earth are known as NEO s or near earth
objects. Near earth objects can potentially be extremely harmful to our planet. *Sci

They can be felt at least 65km away from their initial impact (Yeomans, 2012). It s
possible for an asteroid this size to breakdown before impact leaving almost no
trace. The air blast resulting from this fragmentation could be just as, if not more
destructive than a crater impacting asteroid (National Research Council, 2010).
Any asteroid larger than 1km in diameter is capable of causing global destruction
(Yeomans, 2012). Comets that cause extremely dramatic impacts to earth can vary
anywhere from 10 km to about 1000km in diameter. A 10km asteroid collision with
the earth can lead to an extinction of species. The collision would cause firestorms,
acid rain, and an atmosphere full of soot and debris. Photosynthesis would stop
and plants would die. Animals feeding off of those plants for survival would also
die. A crash like this would be equivalent to 50 million megatons of TNT making it
capable of ending civilization (Yeomans, 2012). Many of Earth s most catastrophic
collisions with NEO s happened billions of years ago. One example of a near earth
object that crashed on earth is the previously mentioned 10 km (diameter) comet
responsible for Chicxulub crater and the extinction of the Jurassic period. Although
this happened 65 billion years ago, it drastically changed the planet and is possibly
one of the reasons we exist today. A smaller (about 30m diameter) yet still powerful
asteroid, Tunguska, entered the Earth s atmosphere
The Intent For Outpatient Prospective Payment System
The intent for Outpatient Prospective Payment Systems is to provide a system to
predict and manage program expenditures by setting a fixed payment amount to
groups of services. The outpatient prospective payment system classifies hospital
outpatient services into Ambulatory Payment Classifications. Ambulatory Payment
Classifications are assigned by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and
are updated annually. Ambulatory Payment Classifications are services that are
similar in the aspect of the resources required to provide the service. The Outpatient
Prospective Payment System was developed to control the costs for healthcare
services by using a bundled payment system. The Balanced Budget Refinement Act of
1999 mandated other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are subject to a 2% reduction in the annual payment if they do not meet
certain requirements of the Quality Data Reporting criteria. If the hospital does meet
the criteria, there is a financial incentive they can receive. With most of the services,
the patient will pay the deductible for that year. Once the patient meets the deductible,
Medicare pays the rest of the charges, less the copay or coinsurance the patient must
meet. On certain services, such as a screening mammogram, the patient is not liable
for a deductible. The Outpatient Prospective Payment System pays for services that
are designated as outpatient hospital services, partial hospitalization services,
hepatitis B vaccines and their administration, casts, splints, and initial preventative
physical exams that are received within the first 12 months of the Medicare Part B
coverage becoming effective. Other services that are included are x rays, stitches,
hospital charges for an emergency room visit, surgeries that are done on an outpatient
basis, observation services due to an illness or injury and the administration of certain
drugs that you cannot give
Boy In The Striped Pajamas Changes
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
In the novel, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the author uses the plot to change the
main character, Bruno. At the start of the novel, Bruno is a 9 year old boy currently
living in Berlin, Germany. Many events take place throughout the novel showing us a
different Bruno each time an event happens making him mad, happy and confused.
The three major events that lead to the changes we see in him are: leaving Berlin,
meeting Shmuel, and going under the fence to help Shmuel find his papa.
In the beginning, Bruno arrives home one day to find the maid, Maria, in his room
packing all his belongings. Mother, what s going on? Are we moving? Bruno asks.
Bruno s mother informs him that they have to move because father has a very
important job to do which requires them to move to Out With. They arrive at their
new home and Bruno is very disappointed; he hates it. Leaving a happy home in
Berlin with five floors, friends and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day Bruno decides he wants to go explore, as that was what always made him
happy in Berlin. He begins his journey along the fence which he was told on
countless occasions to stay away from by both his Mother and Father. While walking
along the fence, Bruno meets a young boy named Shmuel who is on the other side of
the fence. The two of them immediately become best friends, sharing the same
birthday and talking about what has brought them both to Poland. Perhaps I could
come meet your friends , Bruno says to Shmuel hoping they could all play on the
other side of the fence together. The new found friendship has helped transition
Bruno into being happy about living in Out With . Consequently, if Bruno hadn t
decided to go out exploring that day he would ve never met his new friend and he
would be sitting alone in his room very unhappy and
Rhetorical Analysis of a The New York Times Article Essay
The article titled The man with the snow job appears in the Opinion Pages, The New
York Times. Author, Gail Collins, opens her article with the question: Who is to
blame for this weather? which hooks readers attention and makes them curious about
what they are going to read. In her writing, Collins talks about the current snowstorm
in the United States and how it is used for everyone s advantage. She also points out
how government officials such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Gore, George W. Bush
,
and Barack Obamause the occasion of snowfall for their own purposes. The author
borrows images of global warmingeffects to discuss some controversial problems in
the society these days. She applies the following elements to establish the... Show

The expression is frequently applied to people who abuse their authority to avoid
criticism or to deflect guilt or mistake. Therefore, I understand that the man with the
snow job here implies a group of government official. The following metaphor is
made when she introduces the email sent from Rahm Emanuel who is in the race for
Chicago mayor. The author says that Rahm wasted no time in sending off a storm
related e mail, offering a few helpful tips on how to weather the weather. (Collins).
Rahm Emanuel is giving some snowstorm survival tips that every citizen already
knows. Is it difficult for Chicagoans to survive a snowstorm without Rahm s
leadership?
Another metaphor is made when she says: We are sick of bad weather and looking
for a dumping place for all our bad vibrations (Collins). In this case, bad weather
does not literally mean climate change. It implies the bad political and economical
situations that people have been undergoing recently such as pension problem,
political corruption, and global warming. A dumping place can be considered as a
specific person who we can blame to.
To support for the sarcastic tone, Collins additionally makes a sophisticated simile:
We would like to blame one specific person like the evil queen in the movie Red
Sonja who used a magic orb to destroy entire civilizations with terrible storms until
she was vanquished by Red Sonja and Arnold Schwarzenegger. (Collins). Arnold
Schwarzenegger, the 38th
The Federal Reserve
There are many thoughts about the Federal Reserve, some people think it is the
biggest thief ever and some other people think that the Illuminati is running the
show. Also some people know that the Federal Reserve has saved the economy of
the United States a couple of times from depressions. Moreover, economists think
that the Federal Reserve saved the U.S. from the most recent depression in 2008.
Many people in the U.S. may not know who Alexander Hamilton is; however, any
economist or anybody who is studying economy should know who he was.
Alexander Hamilton played a big role in the economy of the United States in 1791,
when he started promoting a movement to embrace a central bank. In that same year
the first bank of the United States... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federal Reserve exists because Congress approved and created it, but is does
not enact policy measures with any Congressional or Presidential approval.
Politically, this makes it quite independent (Roche). With this been said and since
the majority of conspiracies sometimes have wrong facts, their fact about the
Federal Reserve not being managed by the federal government is correct.
Additionally, when America s economy was melting in 2008, the Federal Reserve
played a big role to stabilize it. Besides the Great Depression during the years 1929
through 1939 the worst economic time for the United States, 2008 was
unmistakable one of the worst years of America s economy history. When this
economic recession was taking place, the Fed had to take action to avoid another
depression and to stop a fall from the financial system. With the help of the Federal
Reserve J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. s they planned to help Bear Stearns (an
investment bank) with financial assistance to help the government to buyout AIG, a
well known insurance company. This helped to produce a strategy targeting to
stabilize the credit market and also the short term interest rate from 45% to almost 0
from the benchmark (Coste). Thanks to the Federal Reserve and their well design
plan to avoid another recession they prevented the economy of the world or better
known as Macroeconomic system from falling and getting it
Effect of Gender Inequality on Economic Status
The subject of women and their empowerment has always been one of controversy.
Even though the United States and many other countries have made great strides in
gender equality, men and women are still not equal. Although this problem is
beginning to disappear in many countries, it was once much more significant. The
United States, a country with one of the world s smallest gendergaps, used to be one
of its worst offenders. Prior to World War 2, women were rarely seen in the
workforce with minor exceptions. As a result of the crisis, the men who traditionally
held the labor jobs joined the war effort which left the women to support their
families and the economy. During The Second World War, women played a key role
in keeping the economy afloat and keeping the military supplied. Today, the United
States is one of the countries getting closer to gender equalityand all of those are
reaping the benefits as some of the world s greatest economies. Despite the progress,
some countries such as Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia are still highly gender biased.
This is made evident by the catastrophic assault suffered by Afghanistan women on
their human rights during more than twenty years of war and the repressive rule of
the Taliban . Coincidentally, despite the progress of the past few years, Afghanistan
is extremely poor, landlocked, and highly dependent on foreign aid . This is simply a
microcosm of the pattern that can be identified around the world. This pattern can be
identified

United Kingdom Essay. Uk essays. Migration in United Kingdom Essay Example Topics and Well Written ...

  • 1. United Kingdom Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of the United Kingdom can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in the extensive historical and cultural tapestry of the nation but also in the need to synthesize a vast amount of information into a coherent and engaging narrative. The United Kingdom's rich history, spanning centuries, encompasses political, social, and economic aspects, making it a multifaceted subject that demands careful research and analysis. To start, delving into the historical context requires a comprehensive understanding of key events such as the Magna Carta, the Tudor era, the Industrial Revolution, and the two World Wars. Navigating through the complexities of the UK's political system, including its constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, adds an additional layer of intricacy. Addressing contemporary issues, such as Brexit and its implications, also requires a nuanced perspective. Cultural diversity is another dimension that adds to the challenge. From literature and art to music and cinema, the UK has left an indelible mark on global culture. Incorporating these cultural elements into an essay necessitates a careful balance between depth and breadth. Furthermore, one must consider the dynamic nature of the UK's society, which has evolved over time and continues to do so. Social issues, class structures, and ongoing debates about identity and nationalism require meticulous attention and thoughtful exploration. In terms of economic aspects, tracing the development from an industrial powerhouse to a modern, service-oriented economy is essential. Factors such as the role of the City of London, economic policies, and the impact of globalization contribute to the complexity of the topic. In conclusion, while the intricacies of writing an essay on the United Kingdom may pose a formidable challenge, the process allows for a deeper understanding of a nation with a rich and diverse history. The key lies in meticulous research, critical thinking, and the ability to weave together various threads into a cohesive narrative. • 2. Analysis Of Norma By Sonia Sanchez In an enchanting excerpt by Sonia Sanchez christened, Norma , Sonia concludes the anecdote by turning away and never agreeing again. Sonia has disagreed to many things, but not to a drug riddled woman predicting her kids would make it against all odds. However, if one looks deeper into the text, it is clear the gesture displays the author s opinion on the blatantly rigged system. The beginning of the tale portrays Sonia as very shy... so conspicuous that [she] talked with [her] head down, walked with [her] head down, and would have slept with [her] head down if sleeping had demanded a standing position.(1) . In other words, someone who would never speak out or disagree with the social norm of today because of their general embarrassment

Susan Glaspell s Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers Although A Jury of Her Peers and Trifles are similar in plot, Mustazza s article, Generic Translation and Thematic Shift in Susan Glaspell s Trifles and A Jury of Her Peers highlights the differences and similarities between the two. Mustazza s article may help aid readers to understand the differences between Glaspell s two works and provide understanding as to why Glaspell may have changed the genre and form of the plot. Trifles is a dramatic play whereas A Jury of Her Peers is prose fiction. While some differences may be seen on the surface, other differences will need to be inspected closely. Mustazza s article may help one to understand Glaspell s works by providing analysis and additional perspectives on both A Jury of her Peers and Trifles . The most obvious difference between Glaspell s two works is the title. The play is entitled Trifles whereas the prose version is called A Jury of Her Peers . Both titles draw the attention of the audience to different parts of the plot. Trifles highlights the trivial household items in the plot whereas A Jury of Her Peers accentuates the women s roles and how they question what is morally right (Mustazza 489). • 5. Comparing The World Is Too Much With Us And God s Grandeur God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins and The World Is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth concur on the concept of nature versus the way society tends to treat it; however, they express it in different ways through tone and figurative language, such as metaphors and allusions. Gerard Manley Hopkins seems to have an abstract outlook on the concept of nature, taking it as a whole into great consideration and includes his personal religious beliefs within God s Grandeur such as how the holy ghost is watching over nature as it persists, which brings a positive side to the depressing reality (13 14). God s Grandeur uses many types of figurative language and poetic elements; however, the many metaphors and similes stand out the most for being the majority of the poem as well as conveying the horrors of humanity to his audience. Hopkins writes, It will flame out, like shining from shook ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simile is based on foil, the thin sheet of metal, and compares it to the flame of humanity; essentially, once the light is gone, it s the end and time is either wasted or not, which Hopkins relates to shaking a piece of tinfoil and watching the light quickly disappear. Surprisingly, this is one of Hopkins less puzzling similes, which is shocking due to the fact that it seems to almost be a riddle. Aside from metaphors and similes, one of the strongest points for works of Gerard Manley Hopkins is the imagery, in which we see very dark flickers of what mankind has substantially come to. An example of dark imagery would be Generations have trod, have trod, have trod... (Hopkins 5). Repetition is also noticeable and significant in this line because it gives the
  • 6. The Chronicles of Narnia and The Bible A myth is a way of making sense in a senseless world. Myths are narrative patterns that give significance to our existence. ― Rollo May Fiction has always been used as a way to relay different types of messages throughout time. In many cases authors use fiction to make political commentary, use stories to bring out the major flaws that society has, as well as a way to spread different types of beliefs or ideals. C.S. Lewis s used his work, The Chronicles of Narnia , to reiterate the messages of the Bible to those who might have gotten lost during their lifetime. Though his whole series was full of connections the book that have the most prevalent connections are The Magician s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lewis s version went like this, Then two wonders happened at the same moment.... The second wonder was that the blackness overhead, all at once, was blazing with stars. They didn t come out gently one by one, as they do on a summer evening. One moment there had been nothing but darkness; next moment a thousand, thousand points of light leaped out single stars, constellations, and planets, brighter and bigger than any in our world. There were no clouds. The new stars and the new voices began at exactly the same time. If you had seen and heard it, as Digory did, you would have felt quite certain that it was the stars themselves which were singing, and that it was the First Voice, the deep one, which had made them appear and made them sing (C.S. Lewis 61). This voice was Aslan, and his singing was what brought Narnia into creation. Now this version is very similar to the creation story in Genesis. In Genesis, God speaks and the world is brought into being. In the bible it is written, Then God said, Let there be light ; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night and there was evening and there was morning, one day... (Genesis). In both, the creator was able to bring light and life from nothing. Thus these quotes are the beginning of the parallel between Aslan and Jesus. Both were creators and omnipresent beings, they are both larger than life.

  • 8. Foreign Policies Affect US Foreign Policy Foreign policies are created in the interests of achieving safeguards and regulations that best suit the wellbeing of a country or region. The reason for such policies is to maintain order and peace while also protecting certain aspects of daily life from people who might want to do harm. During the past few years many policies have been changed due to the changing world and ideologies of the people these policies protect. Certain policies affect people more than others while some are made to impact corporations, governments, regions or jobs. A lot of my friends work two jobs since disney doesn t give out full time to everyone but lets people work 40+ hours a week with no benefits and no raises. • 9. The Development Of An Individual s Identity The development of an individual s identity although it varies among individuals usually requires both the primary and secondary level of socialization. Whether in intimate family circles or social institutions, the socialization process that occurs makes us who we are. On the basis of this, I will explain how agents in both primary and secondary socialization process has shaped the way I developed myself and how they will also continue to shape me throughout my life. I will do this by exploring some tenets of Charles H. Cooley Looking Glass Self, Erik EriksonStages of Development and Erving Goffman s Dramaturgy and the Presentation of Self. In my analysis these theories are blended together to highlight their application in the development of myself. Coming from a very supportive and stable family (and extended family), my needs as an infant were met, this allowed me to develop trust that people(especially family members) will always be there for me. The supportive environment enabled me to learn self sufficiency and also gain confidence in line with Erikson s first and second stages of development (Trust vs. mistrust and Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt). Although I experienced a positive psychosocial crisis in the first stage and during the early part of the 2nd stage, there was also a negative crisis that spilled into the 3rd stage (Carl Belanger, 2015). As a Tongue sucking child, my family expected me to outgrow this during the later part of my Toddlerhood. Failing to
  • 10. Solar Energy And Renewable Energy The search for cost effective and efficient renewable energy is becoming an increasingly important area of study. According to Sampaio, with the increase of population and technologic and economic development, human beings need more energy to create a better life environment. Fossil fuel energy sources, while cost effective, have major environmental impacts that add to global warming, acid rain, and climate change. One renewable resource that is sustainable and readily abundant is solar energy, which is a reasonable and readily available replacement for fossil fuel energy sources globally. Solar energy is considered renewable because it is a natural source of energy that is not depleted when used, as it will take Harvesting and converting the energy delivered to Earth by the sun makes sense in many regions of the world. The sun is Earth s main source of energy and is the original source of energy stored in fossil fuels. Rather than harvest dirty fuels that take millions of years to form, why not go to the primary source of that energy and find a way to harvest it like the plants that formed into fossil fuels did? The process of converting light energy into electricity or heat is called photovoltaics. According to Hosenuzzaman, photovoltaics is the direct conversion system that converts sunlight into electricity without the help of machines or mobile devices. Solar radiation is converted to electricity in materials that are called semiconductors. The material that is

So when he missed it, the confused, yet critical eye he gave the crossbow was laughable because it couldn t possibly have been his fault. He had perfect form, had it full in his sights, and he shouldn t have missed unless the crossbowwas faulty. Had he damaged it in some way on this hunt? Arthur almost didn t hear Mithian s cheeky remark about his poor marksmanship when her aim was true and her bolt hit the doe in its hindquarter. Her shot didn t fell it, though, and there was very little blood to track. The king joined in the search, combing the forest floor for a trail of blood they knew would be close by. A less perceptive hunter would have missed the glint that caught his attention. Arthur knelt in a comfortable squat and picked up a silver ring tied to a leather cord. When he recognized the object, Guinevere s matching wedding band, the world closed in around him, all the times he kissed her, held her, vexed her, laughed with her, and every other moment in between spontaneously flash within his mind. The trail lost all meaning. What fickle chance had he of finding that ring, now discarded and forgotten on the forest floor in the middle of nowhere? What was Fate trying to tell him? Stricken, he looked to Merlin for answers he knew the servant wouldn t have. Merlin kept the king s gaze only briefly, the guilt of constantly altering the destiny of

  • 13. Essay On Lying In America Boster, F. J., Kim, S. B., Levine, T. R. (2010). The prevalence of lying in America: Three studies of self reported lies. Human Communication Research, 36, 2 25. This essay starts out with a very startling revelation about prevalence of lying and deception is in America. To the common eye, lying and deceptionis quite prevalent in today s society. A good example of deception, in my opinion, would be how the NFL tried to hide the truth of the Ray Rice incident. On another note, lying occurs when a communicator seeks knowingly and intentionally to deceive others. This essay discusses three studies that attempt to show us the understanding of the prevalence of lying and deception in America. In Study 1, the researchers were intrigued by the frequency of lies, which is their main reason for digging deeper into this topic. The researchers want to test this claim by obtaining data from a large section of adult population. They also found out that on average college students lie twice daily versus the average adult lies only once daily. The methods used in Study 1 were polling a question over the Internet. It amazes me that the prevalence of lying and deception is that great in America. It just goes to show how much of a terrible influence media and pop culture are on our society. For I believe, that if these studies were done 20 years ago the average number of lies told per day one by down

Common carriers are profit oriented, and their primary products are services for voice and data transmissions, both over traditional wired circuits as well as cellular services. Common carriers often supply a broad range of computer based services, such as the manufacturing and marketing of specialized communication hardware and software. A common carrier that provides local telephone services (e.g., BellSouth) is commonly called a local exchange carrier (LEC), while one that provides long distance services (e.g., MCI) is ... With packet switched services, the user again buys a connection into the common carrier cloud. The user pays a fixed fee for the connection into the network depending upon the type and capacity of the service and is charged for the number of packets transmitted. 13. Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4 circuits. T1 circuit is sometimes called a DS 1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1 circuits can be used to transmit data, but often are used to transmit both data and voice. In this case, a time division multiplexer (TDM) provides 24 64 Kbps circuits. Digitized voice using pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64 Kbps circuit so T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a rate of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed bundle of four T1 circuits. T3 circuits allow transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although most articles refer to this rate as 45 megabits per second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1 circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the transmission medium for corporate MANs and WANs because of their higher data rates. At low speed, these T3 circuits can be used as 672 different 64 Kbps channels or voice channels. A T4 circuit transmits at

A restriction digest is a procedure used in molecular biology to prepare DNA for analysis or other processing. It is sometimes termed DNA fragmentation, scientists Hartl and Jones describe it this way: This enzymatic technique can be used for cleaving DNA molecules at specific sites, ensuring that all DNA fragments that contain a particular sequence have the same size; furthermore, each fragment that contains the desired sequence has the sequence located at exactly the same position within the fragment. The cleavage method makes use of an important class of DNA cleaving enzymes isolated primarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important reaction conditions which varies between different restriction enzymes is the salt concentration. Enzyme buffers are specifically formulated to provide the salt concentration for optimal enzyme activity. It is important, therefore, that the correct buffer solution is used for a particular restriction enzyme. [3] For this experiment we also made use of agarose gel electrophoresis, which takes a lot of time. Electrophoresis may be the main technique for molecular separation in today s cell biology laboratory. In spite of the many physical arrangments for the apparatus, and regardless of the medium through which molecules are allowed to migrate, all electrophoretic separations depend upon the charge distribution of the molecules being separated. Electrophoresis can be one dimensional or two dimensional. One dimensional electrophoresis is used for most routine protein and nucleic acid separations. Two dimensional separation of proteins is used for finger printing , and when properly constructed can be extremely accurate in resolving all of the proteins present within a cell. The support medium for electrophoresis can be formed into a gel within a tube or it can be layered into flat sheets. The tubes are used for easy one dimensional separations, while the sheets have a larger surface area and are better for two dimensional separations. In electrophoresis, proteins are separated on the basis of

Stephen Covey states that Every human has four endowments self awareness, conscience, independent will, and imagination. These give us the ultimate humanfreedom.....The power to choose, to respond, to change (Stephen Covey). In the book Frankensteinby Mary Shelley, Will Franz, the monster is essentially more human because he displays the four endowments far more throughout the book than his creator Victor Frankenstein. To begin with, Will Franz displays the first endowment, self awareness in a way that is relatable to many. The origins of this music are found in the experiences of urban African Americans during the 1970s. One of the most unique elements of rap music is its vocal style. In 1979, the record Rapper s Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang defined this style with its use of speedy staccato word play and verbal dexterity (Perkins 11). However, as pointed out by one of rap s early leaders, Afrika Bambaataa, the true roots of this vocal style are found in the previous developments of African American culture. These developments include not only the traditional musical and storytelling styles brought over from Africa, but also such things as the style of speech used by the civil rights leader Malcolm X. Summing up Bambaataa s views on the roots of rap, Perkins says: The rap tradition has been nurtured on the accumulated and residual forms of African and African American music, verbal art, and personal style as well as the constant process of self innovation within each of these elements (5). In addition to its unique vocal style, rap music is also characterized by its innovative approach to creating a musical background for the lyrics. This musical style was developed in New York City during the 1970s by various DJ s (disc jockeys) such as Kool Herc, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Caz. In particular, many people credit the New Yorker Grandmaster Flash with the important innovation of creating a rhythmic beat

Thus Bentham believes humans consider the possible outcomes of the acts they are about to do before they do them by weighing the pleasures and pains of the act and that we should try to strive for the greatest happiness for society as a whole when choosing the acts we execute. John Stuart Mill adds more arguments to Bentham s view of Utilitarianism, which are important factors to consider when discussing this topic. Utilitarianism is the idea to promote the greatest happiness to the general society as opposed to oneself (Mill, 114). Each pleasure is said to have its own difference in quality, so people are able to make the choice between two pleasures (115). Mill believes mental pleasures reign more important than bodily pleasures seeing that bodily pleasures are seen as inferior to the greater good (115). It takes a higher grade of pleasures to make a human satisfied and pleased. It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied (116). An important factor for choosing higher pleasures over inferior pleasures is that you only have time for one pleasure and if you chose the inferior pleasure it will be wasted (117). However the standards of what is right and wrong are not decided by the person s own happiness but the happiness of everyone who is concerned in the decision (117). Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821. After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin official removal of the Seminoles. The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender any land claims within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United States, monetary funding, and a large reservation located in central Florida. The location was designated far enough inland

  • 40. Devices In The Oral Tradition In Homer s The Odyssey Homer The Odyssey Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, was originally performed as a song. The poem is full of devices and compositional techniques that were used by the poet and which contributed to the oral tradition of the poem. Other methods were used by the improvising poet in order to make the task easier as well as to lyrically improve the story which was being narrated. The Odyssey is made up of 24 books, representing the 24 letters of the greek alphabet. The poem was originally performed by a bard and the poem would be performed partly, depending on the request of the audience. According to Foley John Miles (2007), regardless of the versions which we have today of The Illiad or The Odyssey, an ancient Greek oral storytelling tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the scene where Odysseus is taking revenge in the suitors is very violent, and the poet does not spare us any part of it. As he spoke his strong hand reached for a sword that lay nearby a sword Agelaus had dropped when he was killed. The soothsayer was struck full in the neck. His lips were still forming words when his lopped head rolled in the dust. (Homer, The Odyssey, Book 22, lines 348 352, translated by Stanley Lombardo) since the poem was an oral one, the performer had to make sure that the audience understand fully the scenes being narrated, thus bringing to life those actions, even though they are detailed and violent. Therefore, we can clearly say that Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, strictly follows the oral tradition as we know it and has reached us today in a physical format, as close as possible to the original poem. The oral technique has not been disrupted in any way. Despite it being in a written form, the devices and compositional techniques originally used by the poet has been respected and are vividly present all throughout the poem. However, in no way does the fact that the poem is a transition from an oral poetry to a written form affected its literary

I used two internet sites to help me find out the history and how these wearable cameras work. I used magazines, newspapers and journals to show how different types of wearable cameras are being used today and the great impacts they have had in our society. In several articles I found that the police departments in different states use several brands of wearable cameras. Nutritionists use these cameras to help people keep an accurate log of the food intake they are consuming. Care givers and nurses are wearing the cameras in their field to help track dementia patients. They record patients to show types of behaviors they displayed and then use the footage to help with the difficult behaviors. Surgeons use a Go Pro Hero 4 to record eye repair surgeries from a surgeon s point of view and use it as a teaching tool. Aaron Chase a professional mountain biker, and Felix Baumgartner, a record breaker sky diver, use Go Pro cameras to record their adventures. Male and Female Paralysis in Dubliners Critics widely recognized that each story within James Joyce s Dubliners contains a theme of paralysis. In fact, Joyce himself wrote, My intention was to write a chapter of the moral history of my country and I chose Dublin for the scene because that city seemed to me the centre of paralysis (Joyce, letter to Grant Richards, 5 May 1906). Contained in this moral history called Dubliners are twelve stories that deal with the paralysis of a central male character and only four that deal with so called paralysis within a central female character. I had hardly any patience with the serious work of life, which, now that it stood between me and my desire, seemed to me child s play, ugly monotonous child s play (Joyce 22). This fixation rules his young life, and he desires to break into the adult world in order for the girl to take him seriously. Araby represents his chance to prove himself and gain freedom from his normal self, a self that is trapped in a world of fantasy rather than reality. He believes that attending the bazaar will transform him into someone that Mangan s sister could desire, and his whole being is focused on doing everything properly in order to perfect the transformation. When the night of the bazaar finally comes the boy must wait for his uncle to come home and give him money before he can go. His uncle, however, is out late drinking, and as a result the narrator is late for the bazaar. When he finally arrives at Araby, only a couple stands are open. The lights turn out, symbolizing the abrupt end of the young boy s search for freedom and entrance into an adult world.
  • 43. Essay on Censorship in Schools Censorship in Schools According to Freedom of Speech by Gerald Leinwand, Abraham Lincoln once asked, Must a government, of necessity, be too strong for the liberties of its people, or too weak to maintain its own existence (7)? This question is particularly appropriate when considering what is perhaps the most sacred of all our Constitutionally guaranteed rights, freedom of expression. Lincoln knew well the potential dangers of expression, having steered the Union through the bitterly divisive Civil War, but he held the Constitution dear enough to protect its promises whenever possible (8). Issues of censorship in public schools are contests between the exercise of discretion and the exercise of a Constitutional right. The law... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frankfurter in this way reduced the active issue to whether a governmental authority was justified in determining appropriate methods to evoke and recognize the glorious and liberating national sentiment (28). The answer, of course, was yes; that governments were most certainly justified, as long as restriction was accomplished in the service of liberty. Frankfurter went on: Except where the transgression of Constitutional liberty is too plain for argument, personal freedom is best maintained so long as the remedial channels of the democratic process remain open and unobstructed when it is

Space Hazards ( Neo s ) Jasmine Mumphrey ESS102 Research Essay 4/20/2017 Space Hazards (NEO s) Earth may seem gigantic to us, but in relation to outer space we are just a tiny little particle orbiting the sun in the middle of the galaxy. Since the Earth openly travels around in orbit throughout the universe, like any other planet or star, it is prone to impact from space hazards. In this case, space hazards are objects or materials in space that pose a potential threat or risk to the Earth itself and life on Earth. Common space hazards that effect Earth are known as NEO s or near earth objects. Near earth objects can potentially be extremely harmful to our planet. *Sci Fi Paragraph* Prior to 2012 the human race was going bonkers as the clock... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They can be felt at least 65km away from their initial impact (Yeomans, 2012). It s possible for an asteroid this size to breakdown before impact leaving almost no trace. The air blast resulting from this fragmentation could be just as, if not more destructive than a crater impacting asteroid (National Research Council, 2010). Any asteroid larger than 1km in diameter is capable of causing global destruction (Yeomans, 2012). Comets that cause extremely dramatic impacts to earth can vary anywhere from 10 km to about 1000km in diameter. A 10km asteroid collision with the earth can lead to an extinction of species. The collision would cause firestorms, acid rain, and an atmosphere full of soot and debris. Photosynthesis would stop and plants would die. Animals feeding off of those plants for survival would also die. A crash like this would be equivalent to 50 million megatons of TNT making it capable of ending civilization (Yeomans, 2012). Many of Earth s most catastrophic collisions with NEO s happened billions of years ago. One example of a near earth object that crashed on earth is the previously mentioned 10 km (diameter) comet responsible for Chicxulub crater and the extinction of the Jurassic period. Although this happened 65 billion years ago, it drastically changed the planet and is possibly one of the reasons we exist today. A smaller (about 30m diameter) yet still powerful asteroid, Tunguska, entered the Earth s atmosphere

The author says that Rahm wasted no time in sending off a storm related e mail, offering a few helpful tips on how to weather the weather. (Collins). Rahm Emanuel is giving some snowstorm survival tips that every citizen already knows. Is it difficult for Chicagoans to survive a snowstorm without Rahm s leadership? Another metaphor is made when she says: We are sick of bad weather and looking for a dumping place for all our bad vibrations (Collins). In this case, bad weather does not literally mean climate change. It implies the bad political and economical situations that people have been undergoing recently such as pension problem, political corruption, and global warming. A dumping place can be considered as a specific person who we can blame to. To support for the sarcastic tone, Collins additionally makes a sophisticated simile: We would like to blame one specific person like the evil queen in the movie Red Sonja who used a magic orb to destroy entire civilizations with terrible storms until she was vanquished by Red Sonja and Arnold Schwarzenegger. • 51. Effect of Gender Inequality on Economic Status The subject of women and their empowerment has always been one of controversy. Even though the United States and many other countries have made great strides in gender equality, men and women are still not equal. Although this problem is beginning to disappear in many countries, it was once much more significant. The United States, a country with one of the world s smallest gendergaps, used to be one of its worst offenders. Prior to World War 2, women were rarely seen in the workforce with minor exceptions. As a result of the crisis, the men who traditionally held the labor jobs joined the war effort which left the women to support their families and the economy. During The Second World War, women played a key role in keeping the economy afloat and keeping the military supplied. Today, the United States is one of the countries getting closer to gender equalityand all of those are reaping the benefits as some of the world s greatest economies. Despite the progress, some countries such as Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia are still highly gender biased. This is made evident by the catastrophic assault suffered by Afghanistan women on their human rights during more than twenty years of war and the repressive rule of the Taliban . Coincidentally, despite the progress of the past few years, Afghanistan is extremely poor, landlocked, and highly dependent on foreign aid . This is simply a microcosm of the pattern that can be identified around the world. This pattern can be identified
