Fire Prevetion Research Paper
Fire Prevetion Essay Firefighters have been seting small parts of forests on fire that they can
controll in order to reduce the risk of bigger fires in the future. THis seems resonable, it causes a
little harm however if they do this it can stop more harm from happening. There are some down
sides but the prize outways the price. This is a good thing to do. In order to reduce the risk of
wildfires it is appropeat to burn certain parts of a forest in order to remove some of the flamable
materials that can start an out of controll wildfire. Prescribed fires has many advantages including :
Reduces hazardous fuels, protecting human communities from extreme fires;
Minimizes the spread of pest insects and disease;

Arguments Against MMR Vaccines
A young mother noted it is God s will if my child dies from measles or other infectious disease,
but I will not forgive myself if my child gets Autism after I allow him to be vaccinate. I will feel
that I did not protect my child from the harmful effects of the MMR vaccine. This religious believe
about disease and fate seems to be a recurrent theme in the participants response and many believe
the MMR vaccineis different because they are letting their children to receive a harmful vaccine,
which they noted will hang in their consciousness, if it harms their child.

Fluoride Water Crisis
Having lived a good portion of my life in the US, I am very aware of the ongoing and vast array
of conversations about water. There are issues with drought, flooding, contamination, water rights
and even stealing, but the conversation that many people neglect to have is the one about
fluoridation. While I find myself disturbed by the fact that most people turn a blind eye to this use
of fluorides in our public water systems, I am equally disturbed that municipalities do it at all.
Too often we blindly trust that our government has our best interest at the base of their decisions.
Not to paint with too wide of a brush, but we all know only too well that that not always the case. I

Studies done by the National Research Council concluded It is apparent that fluorides have the
ability to interfere with the functions of the brain. The Environmental Protection Agency upon
review of the studies listed fluoride among approximately 100 other chemicals showing substantial
evidence of promoting developmental neurotoxicity. There have been over 100 experiments done
on animals providing proof that shows fluoride impacting cognitive thinking. Animals who were
ingesting fluoride at the same consumption rate as a average household user were found to have
brain damage that impacted learning and

Endothormic And Exothermic Reactions In Chemistry
When lighting a candle, one does not ruminate about how the candle flame is an exothermic
process. In actuality, there are endothermic and exothermic reactions happening all around at
various times. Before proceeding, one should know that exothermic reactions are ones in which
energy is released. They can be discerned by reaction giving off heat, such as the example of the
candle flame expelling vapor. Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed. One
can detect an endothermic reaction by, for example, touching a beaker in which a reaction occurs
that becomes cool. The changes in temperature, both endothermic and exothermic, lead to the idea
of enthalpy. This is defined as the difference between the potential energies of products from
reactants, and is shown as О”H. When a reaction produces heat the value for enthalpy will be
negative, and when it s absorbed it will be positive. The relationship of the transfer of heat between
the system and surroundings can be used to determine the enthalpy change reaction by using the
equation q=mCО”T. This can be accurately measured by using the process of Calorimetry. This is
a method to measure heat by observing the temperature change when a body absorbs or discharges
energy as heat. It is useful since it insulates the reaction, and the only measurable change will
originate from the water in the reaction. The spontaneity of a reaction depends on the values for
enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy. Entropy is the

Alexander the Great Essay
Alexander the Great Alexander the Great or Alexandros III Philippou Makedonan was born in
July 356BC in Pella, Macedonia (Popovic intro). He conquered what was in his time, most of
the civilized world. Alexander accomplished greater deeds than any, not only of the kings before
him but also of those later to come later down to our time (popovic intro). He was one of the
greatest military geniuses in the history of the world. Both of Alexander s parents always
dreamed of him someday being a great leader. Alexander s mother was named Olympias, she was

Growing up, Alexander was trained in the art of war. He learned sword fighting, javelin
throwing, horseback riding, and archery (Townson 3). He was well known for his ablility to
tame horses. Alexander had the best education possible in his time. The great philosopher
Aristotle taught him. Aristotle taught him about literature, and introduced him to science,
philosophy, and medicine which he became interested in. His favorite work of literature was
The Iliad, by Homer. Every night he slept with it and a dagger under his pillow (Townson 3).
Soon he would be able to put all of his drive, ambition, and education to work. Phillip was
assassinated in July 336BC on the way to the theater with his brother in law, Alexander of Epirus,
by a Macedonian soldier, (Popovic death of Phillip). After this event , at the age of twenty
Alexander quickly and firmly took charge of his father s army, faster than anyone had ever thought
possible (Popovic death of Phillip). Alexander quickly executed all of his enemies and people that
had any chance of claiming the thrown; among these were Attulus, a general who claimed that his
nephew was the rightful heir and Phillip s other wife and child. There are stories that Olympia,
Alexander s mother tortured them to death (Wepman 37). After Phillip s death Sparta and Thessaly
claimed independence from Greece. Alexander quickly marched 30,000 men

investment for the firm. Firms have discovered many different approaches to this end, and the
best strategy for a given firm is ultimately a unique construction reflecting its particular
circumstances . (MICHAEL PORTER) Strategies can be one of; A) COST LEADERSHIP:
means being the lowest cost producer in the industry as a whole. B) DIFFERIENTIATOR: is the
exploitatation of a product or service which the industry as a whole believes to be unique. C)
FOCUS: involves restriction of activities to only a part of the market (a segment). SABMiller as

The Six Branches Of Chemistry
List and define the six main branches of chemistry
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Organic chemistry involves the study of the structure, properties, and preparation of chemical
compounds that consist primarily of carbon and hydrogen. organic chemistry the study of most
carbon containing compounds
INORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Inorganic chemistry is the study of the properties and behaviour of inorganic compounds.
It covers all chemical compounds except organic compounds.
Inorganic chemists study things such as crystal structures, minerals, metals, catalysts, and most
elements in the Periodic Table.
ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Analytical chemistry involves the qualitative and quantitative determination of the chemical
components of substances.
PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY
Physical Chemistry the study of the effect of chemical structure on the physical properties of a
substance.
Physical chemists typically study the rate of a chemical reaction, the interaction of molecules with
radiation, and the calculation of structures and properties.
BIOCHEMISTRY
Biochemistry is the study of chemical reactions that take place in living things. It tries to explain
them in chemical terms.
Biochemical research includes cancer and stem cell biology, infectious disease, and cell membrane
and structural biology.
It spans molecular biology, genetics, biochemical pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, and
agricultural biochemistry.

Although the eleventh episode of The Walking Dead Season 6 put the spotlight on the Hilltop

group finally got a taste of what Jeffrey Dean Morgan s villain is capable of when a member of
Hilltop was sent back to assassinate Gregory (Xander Berkeley) and it certainly feels like Negan
will be making his appearance pretty soon. But will we finally see the merciless comic villain on
the AMC series? According to TheWrap, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple recently
hinted that previous reports were mistaken by saying that Morgan will make his debut as Negan in

Washington Irving Gothic Elements
Romantic Age writers such as Washington Irving and Edgar Allen Poe offer many
characteristics of the Romantic Age within their own stories. Romantic Writers often used vivid
descriptions of people and nature, a larger than life hero or villain, and sometimes even the use
of the supernatural. These topics are not the only characteristics however, many more are
exemplified in the works of these men. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is a
prime example of a work in the romantic style. One characteristic this work offers is the great
use of supernatural events or gothic tales. This story is based around the legend of the Headless
Horsemen and the fear it instils into the protagonist, Ichabad Crane. This eerie legend comes into
play as Ichabad is heading home and is then chased by the Headless Horsemen; although it turns
out to just be Brom Bones in disguise. Another characteristic displayed in this work is vivid
descriptions of people and nature. Irving supplies great detail in all characters in this story, while
also giving great detail of nature and the woods that Ichabad travels trough. Irving offers us... Show

This work also offers the characteristic of a larger than life villain. The villain in this story is
death himself who attends the masquerade ball. It is assumed that at the end of this story that
all attendees of the ball die at the hands of death himself. Poe s stories can be viewed as dark and
gloomy with all of them usually ending in a harsh or gruesome way. A second characteristic of
this work is supernatural events. The Prince attempts to fend off the Red Death by offering the
masquerade as a safe haven from the plague enveloping the area at the time. This plan is thwarted
as death himself is present at the Prince s property. By writing this work, Poe seems to suggest that
there is no escaping

Rousseau General Will Analysis
In Basic Political Writings by Jean Jacques Rousseau, Rousseau talks about general will. The
general will is perhaps the most difficult concept Rousseau had to face. Rousseau explains that the
general will relates to sovereignty. Sovereignty is a state that govern itself. Here Rousseau says, I
therefore maintain that since sovereignty is merely the exercise of the general will(Rousseau,
pg.153). The general will is the common good for the state as a whole. The common good is
when it benefits everyone. Everyone can vote on issues and other matters. Rousseau says, It is
therefore essential, if the general will is to be able to express itself, that there should be no partial
society within the State, and that each citizen should think only his own thoughts (Rousseau,
pg.156). The United States is one of many countries around the world where the general will is
present. In Rousseau s book, Rousseau emphasize how important the general will is.
Here Rousseau says: As long as several men assembled together consider themselves as a single
body, they have only one will which is directed towards their ... Show more content on

According to Rousseau, laws should benefit the people and should be applied to all members of
states. Laws should be followed because in order to keep the loyalty of the people. To keep the
loyalty of the people good laws must be established. Rousseau says, Good laws lead to the making
of better ones; bad ones bring about worse (Rousseau, pg.199). This can be true in some ways. Take
the presidency in the United States. In the United States Constitution, the president is only allowed
two terms in office. First the Constitution was formed to help develop the United States then after
many amendments were added to the United States Constitution, the twenty second amendment
was added to prevent the leader of the United States to assume ultimate power. A positive and a
positive could only result in a positive

Psalm 24
Next, with the capacity to divaricate into three distinct thought components, Psalm 24 actually has
congruence, as it covers a sequential range of actions which include declaration, preparation and
finally praise. It is also considered to be a liturgical psalm due to the manner of wording and
conveyance of access requirements with regard to being fit to enter the temple for worship unto God
(Varughese, n.d., p. 7). One course of thought among scholars and commentators for this psalm, is
that it likely embodies the time when the Davidbrought up the ark of God from the house of Obed
edom into the city of David with gladness (2 Samuel 6:12, New American Standard Bible; Kidner,
2014, p. 130). This occurred during the time when the Lord had given... Show more content on

As mentioned previously, within this psalm, there are three distinct strophes, or stanzas, in view.
Bullock (2005) noted that, at the heart of Hebrew poetry is a device called parallelism (p. 36).
Several instances of parallelism are found in Psalm 24, and especially in the first two strophes.
For example, in the first distich, we see David proclaiming that The earth is the Lord s, and all it
contains, the world, and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1, King James Version). These two
units are an example of synonymous parallelism, which Bullock (2005) noted as meaning that
the thought pattern in one line conforms to the pattern in the successive line (p. 36, BULLOCK,
PARAPHRASE THIS). Next, in verses three and four, we find the psalmist using a form of
synthetic parallelism, which involves the second line solving or completing the thought of the
first line (Owensboro Community and Technical College, n.d., para. 7). This can be seen in verse
three when David asks the questions Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may
stand in His holy place and then answers in the next verse with He who has clean hands and a
pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully (Psalm 24:3 4,

The Wage Gap Is A Conflict Within The Work Force
The occupational wage gap has always been and still continues to be a conflict within the work
force. The gender wage gap is defined as the average income of a male compared to the average
income of a female. There have been a few laws that were put into effect due to women s efforts
to create fairness in the workplace. The first law, called the Equal Pay Act of 1963 signed into
law by President John F. Kennedy, requires men and women in the same workplace be given equal
pay for equal work (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The Paycheck Fairness Act
is a recent extension of the Equal Pay Act, it gives workers added protection to take action in the
wage discrimination (National Women s Law Center). When comparing full time and year round
workers, 23.5% is the gap between the annual maleearnings compared to women and that has not
changed much since 2001 (Burns, 1). In the profession I have chosen, there is quite a difference in
dominant genderbetween dental hygienists and dentists. Dental hygiene is a very femaledominated
field of work, although few male dental hygienists exist. Due to the gender roles our society has
molded, hygiene is usually compared to nursing because it revolves around care giving service
and many believe that is not a task men are usually willing to do. Contrary to belief, men can be
just as, if not more, nurturing than women. On the other hand, women are perfectly capable of
becoming dentists as well. The culture we were raised in

Difference Between Formal And Informal Learning
The text being analyzed is Informal vs. Formal learning: What s the Difference. Firstly, this text
was chosen because it contains a meaning of informal and formal learning, which is interesting
because it seems like there are only two ways of learning in life. Firstly, this text was chosen
because it contains a simplistic meaning of what informal and formallearningis. Furthermore, the
text states that formal learning is like a bus, the driver decides where the bus is going, and the
passengers are along with the ride (Cournoyer 2012). Additionally, this is an interesting way to
explain formal learning because there is one force that is in control of how everyone is
supposed to learn. In this example, the person driving the bus is independent of driving while
the passengers are dependent to when the driver makes it s stops. The point to make across is
that if the formal force makes an error, then the people who are not the force are at risk. Secondly,
informal learning is like a bike because the rider chooses the destination, and the route. Formal
learning has much more structure than informal learning because informality has more flexibility.
Formal learning is considered to have more control over the learning experience (Cournoyer
2012). The article from class being analyzed here is Welcome to The World Is a Text by Johnathan
Silverman and Dean Rader. Firstly, the article is about how people experience reading through a
formal and informal way. Interestingly, people

Technology Over Time Will Reduce Demand For Jobs
Technology over time will reduce demand for jobs, particularly at the lower end of skill set. ...
20 years from now, labor demand for lots of skill sets will be substantially lower (Bort). This is
not for only simple jobs. On such example of discovery, which is where a lawyer has to search
through documents and make connections. This is already being automated in many firms, and is
a large part of lawyering, as well as estimating the risk of lawsuits. These are all things computers

But in the 21st century, if we find more affordable and accessible ways of doing so, we should
embrace them rather than reject them (Susskind). In an interview with Therese Breza, a nurse in
the healthcare system, she countered with the belief that human interaction is a vital part of
healthcare, and that her patients and people she has worked with value such interactions.
However, with the increasing complexity of healthcare and possibility of unncessary or even
dangerous treatments, Susskind s countering that the most valuable part of professional
experience is the professional knowledge means that machines that are always learning from
each other and studies and effects of medicine on other medicines or humans shows that the
supposedly valuable part of healthcare can still be present in the form of being a sort of front
for a much more data heavy treatment plan managed by the most up to date and consistent
methods in medical science, and humans can carry out what is needed. While the incentive so
automate specialists such as surgeons is low, and not all doctors will go away, if a tablet has an
app that is as good as a doctor, the security of such a profession will fall dramatically. There is an
opinion that just as the mechanization of manual labor led to people moving into more intellectual
jobs, that then the automation of intellectual jobs will free up people to work on creative pursuits.

The Athenian And Spartan Women
Once reading what this paper was too be addressed about, I was happy. This paper will not only
be about learning about woman in Athens and Sparta but also comparing them to women today,
along with Greece lifestyles between the men and women. Although, women back then had
different task they had similar duties as women do today. With that being said the women had
complex duties as well and not just the men. The roles between the Athenian and Spartan woman
were different. After looking at multiple article and reports I ve come to a conclusion that the
Spartan women were treated better. A big reason for that would be because, they can own their
own property. One of the articles I read said that Spartan women competed in competitions against
the men. The main difference I think in the two is the Spartan woman were taught how to protect
themselves and, the Athenian woman were taught how to do house chores. The marriages were
quite different between the two. For example, the Athenian women would get married at a young
age, while the Spartan women really didn t have a say (NP3). The Spartan men picked who they
wanted to marry. Women back then weren t all as different when compared to today s women. As
stated, Spartan women were able to learn and write and even own property, women today can do
that. As well, Athenian women stayed back and took care of the kids and did house chores,
women today also do that. Which is used commonly in today s society, the women stay at home and

Police Suspicion Essay
Many things go into making a decision for a police officer on a daily basis. Assessing a threat is
an activity that any police officer must do in order to better stay safe within the community and
to live long enough to see retirement. There are obvious and easy to pick out things which give
red flags to an officer such as weapons, disregard for the safety of yourself or others, and clear
intent to harm the officer. Other, less obvious factors, also must come into play. The factor which
we are going to look at in this paper is age. During February of 2006, five researchers observed
policeofficers in Savannah Georgia for 132 8 hour shifts. After each stop police officers would
debrief the researchers and talk about how and why a character was deemed as raising suspicion.
Over the course of this research, there were 174 documented cases of suspects raising suspicion.
In order to form suspicion officers must have, at any time, became doubting, distrustful or
otherwise troubled or concerned about an individual. Suspicion arose in a majority of cases due to
the abnormal behavior of the individual(s) that seemed to pique the interest of the officer. Although
the end result of the suspicion did not always end up in a stop of an individual or vehicle. In some
cases, the officers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the cases in which officers did raise suspicion on the basis of appearance it was never
recorded due to the person s age. As far as this research goes, it seems as though there is no
correlation between age and police suspicion at all.
Through the knowledge done by this research, we can confirm the fact that indeed officers seem to
not become suspicion of an individual due to age. The next logical step is to try and understand
why juveniles are treated differently and how this affects what the ultimate outcome of what is

The United States Civil War Essay
The United States Civil War can be considered as one of the darkest times in American history.
The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to
preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the
capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort
Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the
Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry
and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the
South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would
meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments
supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the
Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine
how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh
and whether or not they accomplished this goal. In this essay, the Confederacy s goals for attacking
Grant s troops at Shiloh and their failure to accomplish those goals will show just how unsuccessful
the Confederate army truly was at this battle.1
There had been decades of tension between the Southern and Northern states of America. The

Importance Of Reflection On Child Development
This play based activity involved a table that had various elements to explore various sounds.
Amelia was guided to the table where another child was already present by the educator that she had
an attachment with. Amelia and the other child were babbling back and forth to one another. When
both children wanted to play with the same instrument, the educator let the children try to resolve it
themselves or intervened when needed. In this activity, Amelia was able to develop her social skills
by joining in play and cooperating with another child through her relationship with the trusted
educator.
Reflection of assessment practice
Moles (2012, p. 1) discusses that reflection on assessment of practice is essential for educators to
seek a different perspective of their teaching practices from others through feedback, consider
strengths and challenges in their teaching and build on their knowledge as educators (Miller 2011, p.
5; Moles 2012, p. 1).
In the VEYLDF (2016, p. 8), it discusses that educators can support children s development by
gathering information such as their interests and consider them when planning learning
experiences. What worked well in the implementation of the program for Amelia was the
information gained from her father which was used in the planning process. By forming a
partnership with Amelia s father, I was able to gain knowledge of Amelia s interests, what she did
on the weekend and learnt simple words in Bosnian. Bickley (2008, p. 1) supports

A Comparison Between Fitzgerald s Great Gatsby and...
Fitzgerald s Great Gatsby and Veblen s The Theory of the Leisure Class
The American Dream is real; Americans are able to rise out of poverty and into leisurely lifestyles
with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work. Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Thorstein Veblen s The
Theory of the Leisure Class both address issues of status and wealth that arise from peoples pursuits
of the American Dream. But the authors differ in their beliefs about the nature and motives of
peoples pursuits of wealth. To begin with, Fitzgerald disagrees with Veblen s notion of pecuniary
emulation as being intrinsic behavior (a goal in and of itself). He does this by conveying that

Fitzgerald s explanation of peoples pursuits of wealth, however, attributes these pursuits not to
an internal need for contentment but to external, tangible goals. Gatsby throws extravagant
parties in the hopes that he ll be able to see Daisy and not for his own enjoyment or self respect .
In fact, Fitzgerald takes great pains to convey that Gatsby does not enjoy his parties Gatsby is
often alone on the marble steps or lamenting about [Daisy] not having a good time (p116). His
conspicuous consumption is not motivated by his need for invidious distinction but by an
external, tangible goal he wants Daisy to reenter his life and fall in love with him again.
Fitzgerald echoes the ideas of Josiah Strong, who wrote of pursuits in life that need to precede the
self seeking (p164, Our Country) pursuit of money. While Strong most values spiritual quickening
(p165), Fitzgerald seems to value commitment to one s ideals (requited love in Gatsby s case).
Fitzgerald further disagrees with Veblen s belief that the desire for invidious distinction is a
pervasive trait that shapes [one s] scheme of life (p33) through a twist in the Great Gatsby s plot.
After Gatsby realizes that Daisy is not pleased by his parties or by his extravagance, he

Changes In The Tempest
Clarifying with Changes
A theme of a play can be portrayed in many different ways. Most commonly the theme is portrayed
through the storyline of the play. Characters, setting, and the life actors bring to a character are also
things that may illustrate the theme for a play. The Tempest, one of Shakespeare s many plays has
a number of different themes. When the ES1B version of The Tempestwas written and produced
changes were made to the play to strengthen one of the biggest themes in The Tempest. This theme
being the power struggle between an established society vs. a natural or native society and the
conflict caused because of this. What changes and alternations of the ES1B version has
strengthened and clarified the theme of established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the original version the play ends with Prospero reciting the prologue. In the prologue
Prospero explains how he has used his magic in a bad manner, which he is now planning to stop,
and he asks the audience for their forgiveness, specifically asking for their indulgence to set him
free. The play ends there, however in the ES1B version it does not quite end there. As the lights
start dimming, the audience starts applauding believing the play is finished , the out of nowhere
Ariel enters with a gun, shoots Prospero, blackout, the play is finished. Throughout the play it
seems as the established society is better or more powerful than the natural society. It all seems
almost too easy for the established world to come and take over the natural society. For example
Prospero can just arrive on the island and without struggle turn Ariel and Caliban into his
personal servant and slave. Another example is how easy it is for Sebastian to become king and
master over Caliban. This makes it seem as it requires nothing for the established society to have
power over the natural or native society. However with the new ending the natural society now
gets a chance to take back what has been taken from them and regain some power. The death of
Prospero balances the power between the two groups, since no group is more powerful than the
other there is still a struggle of power in the end. This

The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp
A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective
use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot
progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the
downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story
Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece
from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main
character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp
also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around
him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece
of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical
flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a
rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these
vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. His relationship with the young girl, Stephanie, who
was neglected by her parents, allowed him to reflect on his past particularly after his brother s
death. [M]y daddy s gone, she says... I ll be your sister... if you ll be my brother ... I start to cry

Comparing Dickinson s This Quiet Dust Was Gentlemen And...
From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, American poets began to diverge from the classic techniques
of writing poetry. Among these poets stood Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Even though
Whitman and Dickinson led contrasting lifestyles and had contrasting structures of writing, their
meanings that they conveyed through their poems were often related. Whitman s poem Song of
Myself, No. 6 and Dickinson s poem This Quiet Dust Was Gentlemen and Ladies are models of
work that are distant in form, but actually encompass several similarities in subject and tone. The
contrasting elements of both poems include the writing structure and use of imagery. Whitman s

Whitman s subject is about rebirth and life continuing after death. Dickinson s subject is about
the end of a cycle or period of time, which closely relates to Whitman s idea of rebirth. Both poets
also make use of personification and parallel structure. Personification is recognized in Whitman
s poem where he states, the grass is itself a child to make the grass represent new and youthful
life (rebirth), and where he states that grass is, the beautiful uncut hair of graves to convey the
fact that life and death occur so often that all grass must be covering some kind of grave that
everyone returns to eventually. Personification is recognized in Dickinson s poem where she
talks about the quiet dust to refer to the death or end of the gentlemen and ladies laughing and
dancing and to emphasize the silence that comes after death or a cycle of time. Parallel structure
is applied in Whitman s poem in the lines, I give them the same, I receive them the same,
meaning that grass grows the same everywhere and for everyone. Parallel structure is applied in
Dickinson s poem in the phrases, gentlemen and ladies and lads and girls, which is significant
because childhood innocence is alluded to with lads and girls, and the reverse order of the usual
phrase of ladies and gentlemen supports the facts that time affects

The Discovery Of Antibiotics And Medicine Essay
The discovery of antibiotics is arguably the greatest contribution to modern medicine. The
widespread use of antibiotics along with vaccines had paved the way for the treatment and cure
for many of the otherwise fatal bacteria diseases and this led to a decline in the mortality rates in
the mid 20th century. The use of antibiotics in medicine today to treat diseases have not all been
met with positive outcomes. As a matter of fact, its relative ease of access and abundance has
given rise to a major problem in creating new strains of bacteriathat are able to resist our
antibiotics today. Such is the case for a special type of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, a gram
positive bacterium with a spherical shape which in some strains of this particular species has
ultimately developed resistance to virtually all antibiotics we have present today. Staphylococcus
aureus is often found on skin surfaces in humans colonizing about 30% of the human population
[1]. They generally are not pathogenic until they enter inside the body through an open wound or
colonize other areas of the body of which they generally are not found [1]. Staphylococcus aureus
commonly cause non fatal skin diseases such as folliculitis, cellulitis and abscesses however, they
can invade the circulatory system and cause a serious infection known as bacteremia [1,9].
Bacteremia is often common in a hospital setting where patients are exposed to invasive
procedures such as surgeries which allow colonies of S.

Nations See Dramatic Decline in Fertility
Over the past half century, almost every nation has seen a dramatic fall in their fertility rates.
Population regulation differs through out the world based on the particular region. Populations can
stabilize through a variety of factors including modern communications, growing affluence,
urbanization, family planning and social reforms (Cunningham, 2013). China and the Indian state
of Kerala are examples of two very different methods to controlling populationexpansion. In the
past twenty years, total fertility dropped by more than half in China (Cunningham, 2013). The
Chinese regulations in place focus more on birth control rather then new social equality. This
strategy depends on strongly enforced policies set by the government, determining how many
children a Chinese family can produce. Chinese law provides a compulsory limit on reproduction
that is punishable by law if an individual exceeds the limits set. The strategy of strict laws with
penalization is also combined with an economic incentive for reducing births. A very different
strategy regarding population stabilization can be seen in Kerala, India. It involves a social justice
strategy that believes social benefits as the solution to family planning. This strategy is based on
the assumption that unequal resource allocation is the main problem that leads to a high
population in developing countries (Cunningham, 2013). In Kerala, providing a fair share of social
benefits to everyone is seen as the key to family

Furthermore, with few exceptions, the Digital Millen[n]ium Copyright Act (DMCA) prevents
the removal of any copy protection methods employed by a media publisher (Dachis, 2012). To
summarize, under no circumstances can you replicate a movie; nor can you use or distribute
software that allows a person to bypass the encryption on anti piracy software. Now that we
know what copyright policy is, we can investigate the reason people choose to pirate content
rather than pursue legal means of obtainment. One of the leading opinions is that piracy is a
service problem. Motherboard writer, Derek Mead, states, According to a new piracy study
funded by NBCUniversal, it appears that a lot of pirates are downloading movies as a matter of
convenience (Mead, 2013). Forbes.com writer, Paul Tassi, supports this theory by stating that

because it s free, it s also appealing because it s easy (Tassi, 2014). These statements clearly
describe the way in which piracy, to a great extent, is caused not by people intent on causing harm
but people enticed by convenience.
With an understanding about the related laws and why people pirate, we can now discuss how
piracy is currently being contested. There are three primary tools

The Issue Of Taxation Of The United States Essay
Benjamin Franklin once said, in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and
taxes. Taxation has always been a hot button issue in the United States, as it was one of the primary
reasons the United States revolted from the British. The media have once again turned its attention
to the issue of taxation, but primarily on the increasing of taxes solely on upper class citizens. The
United Statescurrently employs a progressive taxrate, which means that the upper class already is
liable for a higher percentage of taxes. During the current presidential campaign, each of the
candidates has their own unique idea of tax reform. Some of the candidates tax plans cut taxes for
all through the change to a flat tax rate, while other plans do quite the contrary and raise taxes for
all. The candidates who are favoring the increase of taxes on the wealthy are attempting to enact
laws, which increase funding for government programs, attempt to redistribute the wealth to the
lower class, and eliminate the debt of the United States. However, the candidates who are
attempting to enact a flat tax rate are attempting to eliminate outdated government programs and to
help to increase jobs. A higher tax rate on the wealthy through a progressive tax system, at a
cursory glance, may appear to be beneficial, however, I am arguing to show the negative effects not
only for the wealthy but the United States economy as a whole. Some may believe that all of the

Essentially, it began when a former Marine, Daniel Ellsberg, who no longer supported war in

1971. President Richard Nixon, a very private man, demanded that these Pentagon Papers be kept
secret in order to prevent the public from finding out exactly what was going on. The scandal that

Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice
In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and
there exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where
sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act
of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political
lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of
war, to play for their life; it was a political gameto emphasize who was the stronger and
authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens,
see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins.
Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because
Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it
accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. Miller and Houston argue for the

Communication Is An Important Part Of A Business
Communication is an important part of a business to work. For a working environment to succeed,
a company s ideas, knowledge, or opinions are useless unless there is effective workplace
communication. Upward communication is the flow of information from frontline employees to
managers, supervisors, and directors. This process differs from the more commonly used method of
downward communication. Both communication processes require individuals to exchange
information with one another with the mindset to influence one s thoughts, behaviors, increase
understanding, and help the organization function smoothly. There are different variables that play
a part in organizational communication and a key factor is listening.
Within an organization, there are various methods of providing and gaining information. As
previously mentioned, upward communication is where employees speak directly to management.
This method allows employee s to participate in the organization. This open door policy keeps
managers aware of how subordinates feel about their job tasks, procedures, and the organization in
general. This communication channel implements a method called serial communication. Serial
communication is a type of upward communication method that passes information consecutively
from one person to another (Aamodt, p. 396). This system is similar to a chain reaction, where a
message is given from an employee to a supervisor till it eventually reaches an executive.

that: is predicted that everything training wise would be moved to a digital platform. AnnaMaria
Levich, Haley McCullian, and Kyle Salembier, also attended this meeting. The Association for
Talent Development group is something that I have heard of in at least two of my AOD classes
and if given a chance to attend a meeting I decided I would go. I was unaware of where the meetings
met and who could attend. I knew Association for Talent Development existed and had strong ties

The concept of training when it comes to adult learning has a very prominent link to how
employees train new hires of the millennial generation. The meeting solidified how important it
is for to stay up to date on the best ways for adults to learn at the level of training. Gaining a
deeper understanding of how adults learn best for training purposes can help all companies
overall. From the day, a person is officially hired up until the first day of official training occurs;
the new hire goes through a getting to know their new work place climate. As mentioned in the
meeting begin new with a company can be incredibly overwhelming, this only hinders how
effective training can be. The message of when to train employees stuck out to me since I have

The Hunting Ground For my outside event I chose to attend the screening of The Hunting
Ground which was directed by Kirby Dick, who also directed the film, The Invisible War . In
addition to the special screening of this film, Kirby Dick made a special appearance for a post
film discussion. The event began at 5:30P.M. and went on till about 7:30P.M. or so which began
with a rocky start as Kirby Dick was scheduled to arrive in time to introduce the film to the
audience, but due to an unfortunate mishap on Highway 99, it caused him to arrive closer towards
the end of the film. In the film we are presented with two protagonists, Andrea Pino a valedictorian
from her high school and Annie Clark who graduated third in her high school class. Both ladies are
alumni s at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and both had been sexually assaulted before
their classes at UNC had even began. Both girls shared very similar experiences; they both knew
their attacker, they were in denial about their assaults, and when they approached their school
administrators to report the assault were bombarded with insulting questions in regards to how they
were dressed the night of the attack, if they had been drinking, and essentially boiled it down to that
both girls got what was coming for them for putting themselves into those situations. The film
highlights how colleges and universities try to make their campus s appear to their

Grade Up
Hey Ben, have you seen this? my dad exclaimed. Oh shoot, what could it be this time, I
considered? I hoped that it wouldn t be a bad grade, because I had not done anything yesterday
and the days before, as I had been practicing hard for a game against our rival school. Hopefully it
could have been something a kid in his class from Harvard had made, like last week when
someone had made an toy car that ran on carbon dioxide. Seen what Dad? I stammered. Just
come down here! he shouted. Fearing the worst, I wrenched open the door, and bolted down the
stairs to my Dad s office, where I saw him looking at his computer. Immediately, I knew what he
was yelling at me for. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the bell rang I bolted out of science and sprinted across the broken pavement, brushing past
many students. When I got inside, I went through my study guide multiple times, until Ms. Baker,
my teacher, told us to put away our study guides and bring out a pencil. She passed out the test,
and with a groan I saw how thick it was. I opened it and it there were 50 questions! Immediately, I
got stumped on the first question. And then the fifth one. And the seventh, tenth, nineteenth, which
were all about some crazy kid name Bill trying to figure out which bike tire was the best for the
price. When I finally was finished with the test, there was 2 minutes left in the period. I reluctantly
dropped my paper into the scanner, my hand sweaty from nervousness. Slowly I opened my eyes.
No I whispered to myself. I had gotten a B , which I doubted would have raised my grade up to a C
or above, which is what I needed to be able to shoot some hoops again. But at least I didn t get a C
or lower, which would have surely dropped my grade to an F, and make me in a bigger hole than I
was before. So as the bell rang, I reluctantly got my backpack and went to the parking lot where my
dad was going to pick me up. I knew right off the bat that he was going to ask me what I got. So, I
came straight out and told him that I got a B . But I layed it on thick saying that I was sure that
it wouldn t drop my grade, and would probably bring it up. So when we got home, we checked

Years ago, during a rough patch in life, I started seeing a behavioral psychologist to deal with some
anxiety issues and insomnia. Part of his sessions often consisted of a guided meditation, where he
would speak to me in gentle tones while I lay on the sofa, breathing deeply. The meditations
were probably a good 20 minutes or so, and frankly, I wondered if perhaps these sessions were
just a way for my therapist to get a break from listening to my life nonsense, but I found them very
relaxing and left afterwards feeling calm and refreshed, two feelings that didn t come naturally to
me.
After one session, my therapist complimented me on my breathing. He noted that I could slow
my breath down and take very long, deep breaths that helped me reach a different state. Higher
consciousness? Maybe. Calm and relaxed? Definitely, at least during and for a bit after the
meditation. He asked if I had learned this somewhere. I told him about the years I had spent taking
Kundalini Yoga from a prominent LA teacher. It wasn t daily

Master Harold vs No Exit Essay
The setting of a play is extremely vital. It could a form of symbolism, foreshadowing, or it can
affect the characters in the play. The is exactly the case in both No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre and
Master Harold ...and the boys by Athol Fugard. The setting in both plays contain of one room that
mainly consists of three major characters. The setting has an enormous impact on the behavior of
the characters. The time period in which both plays are form also effect the style of writing and
the characters. No Exit has an existentialist style of writing were as Master Harold ...and the boys
was written in the apartheid era of South Africa. Both books have similar settings, but also involve
some dissimilarity. The stage directions and the dialogue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This play is based in a small coffee shop in South Africa. A rainy day forces the shop to very
unproductive. Still there are two African workers with the son of the white owner. Look at the
three of us this afternoon (Fugard 46). Sam is talking to the rest saying that only the three of
them are here this afternoon. Fugard uses the one room to keep all of the characters together. He
is trying to get the audience to perceive them as friends at the beginning of the play. He wants to
show the effect of staying in a room with a select few can change the atmosphere of the room.
Sartre and Fugard are both trying to show the harmless side of the characters before the setting
changes them and the circumstances. The effect of the one room on anyone for a long period of
time will result in hatred and bias. In No Exit the two female characters, Inez and Estelle, want
to kill each other by the end of the play. Right! In that case, I ll stop her watching. (She picks up
the PAPER knife and stabs Inez several times.) (Sartre 45). Estelle is say that she will not let her
watch her and Garcin. She takes the paper knife in the room and starts to stab Inez. Estelle
forgets that since they are in hell, she is already dead and the knife has no effect on her. Estelle has
a strong sense of hatred for Inez and vice versa. The people also start to favor one over the other.

My Writing Log
Reading and Writing is something that is done without even thinking about it, to me it is like a
natural instinct that one just has developed over the years. I was surprised with my reading and
writing log because I would have never expected to read and write as much as it shows in my daily
log that I had to keep for a week. I noticed that I tend to divide my reading and writinginto three
categories such as school, leisure and work. During the writing diary assignment I had to also
keep track of the format I used to read and write. This log showed me that I tend to do about the
same amount of use of electronic and physical formats. Most of my time was spent in academic
reading. The reason why academic reading takes most of my time is because as a college student, I
am expected to read on my own time to be prepared for the in class discussion. My daily log
showed that I spend about 5 hours of my day reading for school. This number will most likely
increase due to my chemistry and microbiology classes because as weeks pass I will... Show more

Factors Contributing For Orthodontic Treatment Uptake Essay
Factors contributing to orthodontic treatment uptake Introduction: Enhancing form and getting
better psychological and social function seems to play significant tasks in an individual s choice to
begin Orthodontic treatment.[1] Functional and aesthetic enhancements in occlusion are the
common causes quoted by adults for taking Orthodontic treatment.[2] Previous questionnaire
studies are done among adults and established that, the key fascinating factor for taking orthodontic
treatment was an aspiration to get better dental manifestation, along with facial emergence.[3, 4]
The uptake of Orthodontic treatment has revealed to diverge distinctly in various populations, as of
5% to 60%, depending on the countryside.[5] The research on determining the factors that forecast
undergoing of Orthodontic treatment has spotlighted on young peoples and recognized various
factors such as gender,[6] ethnic background,[7] socioeconomic status,[8] availability of
Orthodontic services,[8] and need of orthodontic treatment.[9] The orthodontic treatment uptake is
greater in females because of favoured self selection and not essentially larger need.[7] The
socioeconomic class is a noteworthy interpreter for Orthodontic treatment.[8] The incidence of
undergoing orthodontic treatment among younger people is greater in high as well as middle

Explication Of The Lamb By William Blake
Explication of The Lamb
The Lamb is a short poem written by William Black, an english poet and writer who lived from
1757 to 1827, a lot of his works were written near the start of the romantic period. This movement
focused on the expressions of human spirituality, with a focus on nature. He lived a simple life
and worked as an illustrator and writer. The Lamb is a lyrics poem that contains two ten line
stanzas. Each pair of lines rhymes with the correlating line and this persists throughout the poem.
The Lamb s theme alone is to praise God for creating something so virtuous. The first stanza
consists of Blake posing a question, which sets the tone for the entirety of the poem. It is easy to
identify that the question is directly referring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the symbolism is used to describe the lamb itself as well as its sustenance. Another
literary device is of course, the biblical allusion of the lamb and the Lord, as well as their relation.
Blake honours Jesus specifically with the line, He became a little child (line 16) for the sacrifice
he made for humanity by coming to earth. In addition, the lines, I a child and thou a lamb, we are
called by his name (Lines 17 18) further expand on the religious theme of the poem. Through this
it is implied that the speaker had been a child all along;which correlates with Blake s works in
Songs of Innocence.
Ultimately this is a surprisingly simple poem with a relatively deep underlying message. This
format syncs up beautifully with the poems messages of a lamb s innocence and therefore a child
s innocence. The style is also accentuated with the simple verbiage, the use of repetition, and the
device of a child narrator. The larger theme comes into play still dealing with religion when the
poem is aligned with its counterpart The Tyger, to question God s intentions behind him creating all
of humanity including what is holy and virtuous, and what is vile and

Hanukkah And St. Nicholas Day Summary
The residents of the annex use too much electricity and exceed their ration. Anne begins to feel
that Mr. Dussel is a strict disciplinarian and has too many opinions about etiquette. She writes that
it is very difficult being the badly brought up center of attention in a family of nitpickers.
Hanukkah and St. Nicholas Day come on almost the same day, so the annex holds two
celebrations. They light the Hanukkah candles for only ten minutes, since candles are in short
supply. For St. Nicholas Day, Father hides a basket filled with presents and a mask of Black
Peter in a cabinet. Mr. van Daan makes sausages to preserve the meat they have bought. Mr.
Dussel opens a pretend dental practice in the annex and comically attempts to fix Mrs. van Daan
s cavities. Anne tires of Mrs. van Daan s incessant complaints and is annoyed that Mr. Dussel
constantly tells her to be quiet at night but then wakes her up when he does his exercises at dawn.
Anne marvels at how diplomatic she has become while living in the annex. Mr. Kugler brings the
residents gravy packets to fill because he can find no one else to do the job. According to Anne,

Mr. Frank thinks the war will end soon, but the level of anxiety in the annex increases. Anne is

Another night, Peter climbs up into the loft and a rat bites his arm. Mr. Dussel often writes letters
to his wife and to others outside, and Mr. Frank demands that he stop. The residents have another
scare when they think they hear burglars in the building. After that incident, the clock suddenly
stops chiming, which also upsets Anne. Later, the residents hear a radio announcement that all Jews
must be deported from Utrecht and the other provinces of the Netherlands by the beginning of

Physics Reflection
On my physics unit test I got 25/37. I understood most part of this unit but there were some ups
and downs on the way with some concepts and homework. I felt like I could have done better if I
understood how the energy contributes to the weather system and the pyramid, also how to
calculate for different types of questions. For example, speed or converting potential energyto
kinetic energyor kinetic to potential energy.
Questions:
1. for the first question, I understood everything and how to do it because it was one of the first
things we learned in physics. Finding potential energy is not that difficult until you go more in
depth with it. I did find it hard at first when learning about it, but after asking for help, it did get
easier. To find potential energy you have to do P.E = m (mass) x g (acceleration of gravity [9.8m
/s2]) x h (height). Then you just fill in the formula and solve for potential energy.
2. These questions were not that hard at first because I thought we were just solving for kinetic
energy. But when I saw the km/h and had no idea what to do with it because I never remembered
working with it in the past. So I randomly multiplied the 30km/h in my head without showing the
work because I was so lost and was running out of time. But I do understand now why we did not
do anything with the 30km/h. We did not do anything with the 30km/h because it was just a
reference point for us. And to figure out kinetic energy, you cannot add the speed at

A Frustrated Desire For Love
A Frustrated Desire for Love: James Joyce s Araby Gazing up into the darkness I saw myself as
a creature driven and derided by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger (111). In
James Joyce s Araby he portrays a story of a search for love through the eyes of a young,
unnamed boy going through the dull routines of a quiet and normal life. He becomes infatuated
with a girl referred to as Mangan s sister . He desires to go to a bazaar to buy her something
hoping to somehow express his feelings for her. He goes to the bazaar and is not able to fulfill
with bringing something for Mangan s sister. As he finds himself empty handed, in a sense of
personal defeat, he stands in his own self created despair. In the writer s selection Araby he
illustrates that the main characters vain desire for love, when the expectations are exaggerated by
mere imagination and frustrated by mundane routines, creates anguish as said desire proves
unattainable.
The main character creates for himself anguish through an obsession that is developed through
exaggerated expectations for love. The character develops from a once normal, young boy to a
borderline stalker. In the selection the main character reinforces his personal obsession with
Mangan s sister as he describes to us his daily routine: Every morning I lay on the floor in the
front parlour watching her door. The blind was pulled down to within an inch of the sash so that I
could not be seen. When she came out on the doorstep

My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing
Have you ever cleaned out your closet and found many items you never knew you owned? That
is the way English 101 felt to me. I learned important skills and techniques that I will maintain
even though the course is over. I will be constantly improving what I have learned meaning I will
work to carry about my strengths and eliminate my remaining weaknesses. English 101 has helped
me grow as a reader, a writer, and most importantly a person.
My writing has progressed during the term by becoming more specific and sophisticated on an
analytic level. I have learned to closely observe what I am reading or researching; this helping to
improve the credibility in my writing. When the grades were passed back for the first minor
writing, I was highly dissatisfied with the grade I received. In high school, I always got excellent
grades on my papers; making it hard for me to accept the challenge that was now presented in
front of me. After sitting down and figuring out my mistakes, I realized I was an extremely general
writer. I forgot to include multiple details that were necessary for the readers understanding as it
was difficult for me to analyze writing from another perspective. My first minor writing paper was
titled A healthy Friendship and it explained a paradigm shift that involved one of my current
best friends. This was my weakest writing by far. After I revised the paper and still did not receive
my ideal grade, I knew I would have to work incredibly hard in this college

Iso 9000 International Quality Standards
Analyzing ISO 9000 Organizations both large and small understand that perfection is a dream, but
the pursuit of perfection is what drives efficiencies, process improvements, talent development and
more, which should result in increased revenues and bottom line profits. In addition, organizations
that manufacture goods and services are always concerned with the quality of the goods and the
strategies involved for continued improvements. Heizer and Render (2014) stated that
improvements in quality are synonymous with increased sales, reduced costs, and increased overall
profitability and that quality falls into three categories, user based, and manufacturing based, and
product based. The quality of a product will directly influence an organizations reputation, liability,
and global implications. For all these reasons, ISO 9000international quality standards were
developed. Organizations looking to introduce ISO 9000 must understand that the program is only
as successful as the belief and hard work that is put into it from the employees. In this paper, I will
introduce ISO 9000 and explain exactly what this quality management systemdoes. Additionally, I
will present the benefits of ISO 9000 and what conditions must be in place for an organization to be
successful. Finally, I will discuss the challenges organizations face if the employees are not fully
committed to the implementation of ISO 9000 standards.
What is ISO 9000? Quality is something all organizations

There Is No Unmarked Woman By Deborah Tannen

personal hygiene. In Deborah Tannen s essay There is no unmarked woman Tannen states that it is
inevitable for a women to be unmarked. Tannen assert that ways a women is marked include the
makeup a woman wears, her clothes, and the amount of jewelry she has on. I agree with Tannen
because women aren t able to fully express themselves like men due to the stamp society has placed
on us. Women are marked and judged by their outer appearance rather than their innermost. Tannen
distinguished that each of the women at the conference had to make decisions about hair, clothing,
makeup and accessories, and each decision had a carried meaning (411). Women

`` Thought, By Louis H. Sullivan
In his essay, Thought, Louis H. Sullivan illustrates the importance of real thinking and creative
thinking. He asserts that words are not really necessary to use to express our thoughts. He presents
other wordless forms of communication to translate our thoughts into loud expressions. Music,
painting, images and other wordless forms are the solution the author suggest, as better forms of
communication. Real thinking is better done without words Sullivan argues. Words cut off the
inspiration of creative thinking, and disturbs the imagination when someone tries to translate their
thoughts into spoken language. According to the author, images are the best way to translate our
creative thoughts without the interruption of finding the perfect word to describe an idea. Sullivan
attempts to persuade his audience to avoid reading because it deprives them from real thinking:
asserting that it must be only done in the present. He discusses that writing is a slow process: many
thoughts dissipates as one struggles to put their thoughts into words. Another point that Sullivan
argues is that one should only think in the present, and focus in the present alone because the
present is the only thing that matters. Sullivan explains, You cannot think in the past, you can only
think of the past... you cannot think in the future, you can only think of the future ... One is dead
and the other is yet to be born. The author argues that it is not good idea to expand our imagination

  • 4. Fluoride Water Crisis Having lived a good portion of my life in the US, I am very aware of the ongoing and vast array of conversations about water. There are issues with drought, flooding, contamination, water rights and even stealing, but the conversation that many people neglect to have is the one about fluoridation. While I find myself disturbed by the fact that most people turn a blind eye to this use of fluorides in our public water systems, I am equally disturbed that municipalities do it at all. Too often we blindly trust that our government has our best interest at the base of their decisions. Not to paint with too wide of a brush, but we all know only too well that that not always the case. I don t mean to sound overly cynical, but it often appears ... • 5. Endothormic And Exothermic Reactions In Chemistry When lighting a candle, one does not ruminate about how the candle flame is an exothermic process. In actuality, there are endothermic and exothermic reactions happening all around at various times. Before proceeding, one should know that exothermic reactions are ones in which energy is released. They can be discerned by reaction giving off heat, such as the example of the candle flame expelling vapor. Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed. One can detect an endothermic reaction by, for example, touching a beaker in which a reaction occurs that becomes cool. The changes in temperature, both endothermic and exothermic, lead to the idea of enthalpy. This is defined as the difference between the potential energies of products from reactants, and is shown as О”H. When a reaction produces heat the value for enthalpy will be negative, and when it s absorbed it will be positive. The relationship of the transfer of heat between the system and surroundings can be used to determine the enthalpy change reaction by using the equation q=mCО”T. This can be accurately measured by using the process of Calorimetry. This is a method to measure heat by observing the temperature change when a body absorbs or discharges energy as heat. It is useful since it insulates the reaction, and the only measurable change will originate from the water in the reaction. The spontaneity of a reaction depends on the values for enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy. Entropy is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Washington Irving Gothic Elements Romantic Age writers such as Washington Irving and Edgar Allen Poe offer many characteristics of the Romantic Age within their own stories. Romantic Writers often used vivid descriptions of people and nature, a larger than life hero or villain, and sometimes even the use of the supernatural. These topics are not the only characteristics however, many more are exemplified in the works of these men. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is a prime example of a work in the romantic style. One characteristic this work offers is the great use of supernatural events or gothic tales. This story is based around the legend of the Headless Horsemen and the fear it instils into the protagonist, Ichabad Crane. This eerie legend comes into play as Ichabad is heading home and is then chased by the Headless Horsemen; although it turns out to just be Brom Bones in disguise. Another characteristic displayed in this work is vivid descriptions of people and nature. Irving supplies great detail in all characters in this story, while also giving great detail of nature and the woods that Ichabad travels trough. Irving offers us... It is assumed that at the end of this story that all attendees of the ball die at the hands of death himself. Poe s stories can be viewed as dark and gloomy with all of them usually ending in a harsh or gruesome way. A second characteristic of this work is supernatural events. The Prince attempts to fend off the Red Death by offering the masquerade as a safe haven from the plague enveloping the area at the time. This plan is thwarted as death himself is present at the Prince s property. By writing this work, Poe seems to suggest that there is no escaping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Rousseau General Will Analysis In Basic Political Writings by Jean Jacques Rousseau, Rousseau talks about general will. The general will is perhaps the most difficult concept Rousseau had to face. Rousseau explains that the general will relates to sovereignty. Sovereignty is a state that govern itself. Here Rousseau says, I therefore maintain that since sovereignty is merely the exercise of the general will(Rousseau, pg.153). The general will is the common good for the state as a whole. The common good is when it benefits everyone. Everyone can vote on issues and other matters. Rousseau says, It is therefore essential, if the general will is to be able to express itself, that there should be no partial society within the State, and that each citizen should think only his own thoughts (Rousseau, pg.156). The United States is one of many countries around the world where the general will is present. In Rousseau s book, Rousseau emphasize how important the general will is. Here Rousseau says: As long as several men assembled together consider themselves as a single body, they have only one will which is directed towards their ... In the United States Constitution, the president is only allowed two terms in office. • 13. Psalm 24 Next, with the capacity to divaricate into three distinct thought components, Psalm 24 actually has congruence, as it covers a sequential range of actions which include declaration, preparation and finally praise. It is also considered to be a liturgical psalm due to the manner of wording and conveyance of access requirements with regard to being fit to enter the temple for worship unto God (Varughese, n.d., p. 7). One course of thought among scholars and commentators for this psalm, is that it likely embodies the time when the Davidbrought up the ark of God from the house of Obed edom into the city of David with gladness (2 Samuel 6:12, New American Standard Bible; Kidner, 2014, p. 130). This occurred during the time when the Lord had given... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the first distich, we see David proclaiming that The earth is the Lord s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1, King James Version). These two units are an example of synonymous parallelism, which Bullock (2005) noted as meaning that the thought pattern in one line conforms to the pattern in the successive line (p. 36, BULLOCK, PARAPHRASE THIS). Next, in verses three and four, we find the psalmist using a form of synthetic parallelism, which involves the second line solving or completing the thought of the first line (Owensboro Community and Technical College, n.d., para. 7). This can be seen in verse three when David asks the questions Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place and then answers in the next verse with He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully (Psalm 24:3 4, King James ... • 14. The Wage Gap Is A Conflict Within The Work Force The occupational wage gap has always been and still continues to be a conflict within the work force. The gender wage gap is defined as the average income of a male compared to the average income of a female. There have been a few laws that were put into effect due to women s efforts to create fairness in the workplace. The first law, called the Equal Pay Act of 1963 signed into law by President John F. Kennedy, requires men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The Paycheck Fairness Act is a recent extension of the Equal Pay Act, it gives workers added protection to take action in the wage discrimination (National Women s Law Center). When comparing full time and year round workers, 23.5% is the gap between the annual maleearnings compared to women and that has not changed much since 2001 (Burns, 1). In the profession I have chosen, there is quite a difference in dominant genderbetween dental hygienists and dentists. Dental hygiene is a very femaledominated field of work, although few male dental hygienists exist. Due to the gender roles our society has molded, hygiene is usually compared to nursing because it revolves around care giving service and many believe that is not a task men are usually willing to do. Contrary to belief, men can be just as, if not more, nurturing than women. On the other hand, women are perfectly capable of becoming dentists as well. The culture we were raised in ... • 15. Difference Between Formal And Informal Learning The text being analyzed is Informal vs. Formal learning: What s the Difference. Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a meaning of informal and formal learning, which is interesting because it seems like there are only two ways of learning in life. Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a simplistic meaning of what informal and formallearningis. Furthermore, the text states that formal learning is like a bus, the driver decides where the bus is going, and the passengers are along with the ride (Cournoyer 2012). Additionally, this is an interesting way to explain formal learning because there is one force that is in control of how everyone is supposed to learn. In this example, the person driving the bus is independent of driving while the passengers are dependent to when the driver makes it s stops. The point to make across is that if the formal force makes an error, then the people who are not the force are at risk. Secondly, informal learning is like a bike because the rider chooses the destination, and the route. Formal learning has much more structure than informal learning because informality has more flexibility. Formal learning is considered to have more control over the learning experience (Cournoyer 2012). The article from class being analyzed here is Welcome to The World Is a Text by Johnathan Silverman and Dean Rader. Although, women back then had different task they had similar duties as women do today. With that being said the women had complex duties as well and not just the men. The roles between the Athenian and Spartan woman were different. After looking at multiple article and reports I ve come to a conclusion that the Spartan women were treated better. A big reason for that would be because, they can own their own property. One of the articles I read said that Spartan women competed in competitions against the men. The main difference I think in the two is the Spartan woman were taught how to protect themselves and, the Athenian woman were taught how to do house chores. The marriages were quite different between the two. For example, the Athenian women would get married at a young age, while the Spartan women really didn t have a say (NP3). The Spartan men picked who they wanted to marry. Women back then weren t all as different when compared to today s women. As stated, Spartan women were able to learn and write and even own property, women today can do that. Assessing a threat is an activity that any police officer must do in order to better stay safe within the community and to live long enough to see retirement. There are obvious and easy to pick out things which give red flags to an officer such as weapons, disregard for the safety of yourself or others, and clear intent to harm the officer. Other, less obvious factors, also must come into play. The factor which we are going to look at in this paper is age. During February of 2006, five researchers observed policeofficers in Savannah Georgia for 132 8 hour shifts. After each stop police officers would debrief the researchers and talk about how and why a character was deemed as raising suspicion. Over the course of this research, there were 174 documented cases of suspects raising suspicion. In order to form suspicion officers must have, at any time, became doubting, distrustful or otherwise troubled or concerned about an individual. The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh and whether or not they accomplished this goal. The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. Population regulation differs through out the world based on the particular region. Populations can stabilize through a variety of factors including modern communications, growing affluence, urbanization, family planning and social reforms (Cunningham, 2013). China and the Indian state of Kerala are examples of two very different methods to controlling populationexpansion. In the past twenty years, total fertility dropped by more than half in China (Cunningham, 2013). The Chinese regulations in place focus more on birth control rather then new social equality. This strategy depends on strongly enforced policies set by the government, determining how many children a Chinese family can produce. Chinese law provides a compulsory limit on reproduction that is punishable by law if an individual exceeds the limits set. The strategy of strict laws with penalization is also combined with an economic incentive for reducing births. A very different strategy regarding population stabilization can be seen in Kerala, India. It involves a social justice strategy that believes social benefits as the solution to family planning. This strategy is based on the assumption that unequal resource allocation is the main problem that leads to a high population in developing countries (Cunningham, 2013). • 36. Copyright Of Copyright And Copyright Copyright policy violations have been a major talking point in the media in recent years. Copyright concerns largely grew in the early 2000 s due to a popular music sharing program called LimeWire. LimeWire allowed people to illegally download, or pirate, the music they were interesting in listening to for free. Limewire launched in 2000 and was shut down in 2010 due to a permanent injunction issued by a New York based federal court (Gearlog, 2010). This injuction brought copyrightinfringement to the forefront of the headlines as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) attempted to file a lawsuit for $75 trillion. This was settled to $105 million, but they publicity of such a large lawsuit brought more debate to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, with few exceptions, the Digital Millen[n]ium Copyright Act (DMCA) prevents the removal of any copy protection methods employed by a media publisher (Dachis, 2012). To summarize, under no circumstances can you replicate a movie; nor can you use or distribute software that allows a person to bypass the encryption on anti piracy software. Now that we know what copyright policy is, we can investigate the reason people choose to pirate content rather than pursue legal means of obtainment. One of the leading opinions is that piracy is a service problem. Motherboard writer, Derek Mead, states, According to a new piracy study funded by NBCUniversal, it appears that a lot of pirates are downloading movies as a matter of convenience (Mead, 2013). Forbes.com writer, Paul Tassi, supports this theory by stating that [p]iracy is a service problem. Valve s Gabe Newell said that years ago, touting the success of Steam, his online video game distribution service. These statements clearly describe the way in which piracy, to a great extent, is caused not by people intent on causing harm but people enticed by convenience. Taxation has always been a hot button issue in the United States, as it was one of the primary reasons the United States revolted from the British. The media have once again turned its attention to the issue of taxation, but primarily on the increasing of taxes solely on upper class citizens. The United Statescurrently employs a progressive taxrate, which means that the upper class already is liable for a higher percentage of taxes. During the current presidential campaign, each of the candidates has their own unique idea of tax reform. Some of the candidates tax plans cut taxes for all through the change to a flat tax rate, while other plans do quite the contrary and raise taxes for all. The candidates who are favoring the increase of taxes on the wealthy are attempting to enact laws, which increase funding for government programs, attempt to redistribute the wealth to the lower class, and eliminate the debt of the United States. However, the candidates who are attempting to enact a flat tax rate are attempting to eliminate outdated government programs and to help to increase jobs. A higher tax rate on the wealthy through a progressive tax system, at a cursory glance, may appear to be beneficial, however, I am arguing to show the negative effects not only for the wealthy but the United States economy as a whole. Essentially, it began when a former Marine, Daniel Ellsberg, who no longer supported war in Vietnam, leaked an analysis of American involvement there to The New York Times, starting in 1971. President Richard Nixon, a very private man, demanded that these Pentagon Papers be kept secret in order to prevent the public from finding out exactly what was going on. Two of them were John Dean, who had been previously mentioned by FBI Director L. Patrick Gray, and Jeb Magruder, who had been involved with Nixon s campaign. Dean testified that Nixon knew about the cover up, and then Nixon refused to appear before the Senate Judicial Committee based on executive privilege, which allows officials to keep information private if releasing it would disrupt the function of the government. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it was a political gameto emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. For a working environment to succeed, a company s ideas, knowledge, or opinions are useless unless there is effective workplace communication. Upward communication is the flow of information from frontline employees to managers, supervisors, and directors. This process differs from the more commonly used method of downward communication. Both communication processes require individuals to exchange information with one another with the mindset to influence one s thoughts, behaviors, increase understanding, and help the organization function smoothly. There are different variables that play a part in organizational communication and a key factor is listening. Within an organization, there are various methods of providing and gaining information. As previously mentioned, upward communication is where employees speak directly to management. This method allows employee s to participate in the organization. This open door policy keeps managers aware of how subordinates feel about their job tasks, procedures, and the organization in general. This communication channel implements a method called serial communication. • 56. My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing Have you ever cleaned out your closet and found many items you never knew you owned? That is the way English 101 felt to me. I learned important skills and techniques that I will maintain even though the course is over. I will be constantly improving what I have learned meaning I will work to carry about my strengths and eliminate my remaining weaknesses. English 101 has helped me grow as a reader, a writer, and most importantly a person. My writing has progressed during the term by becoming more specific and sophisticated on an analytic level. I have learned to closely observe what I am reading or researching; this helping to improve the credibility in my writing. When the grades were passed back for the first minor writing, I was highly dissatisfied with the grade I received. In high school, I always got excellent grades on my papers; making it hard for me to accept the challenge that was now presented in front of me. After sitting down and figuring out my mistakes, I realized I was an extremely general writer. I forgot to include multiple details that were necessary for the readers understanding as it was difficult for me to analyze writing from another perspective. My first minor writing paper was titled A healthy Friendship and it explained a paradigm shift that involved one of my current best friends. This was my weakest writing by far. After I revised the paper and still did not receive my ideal grade, I knew I would have to work incredibly hard in this college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Iso 9000 International Quality Standards Analyzing ISO 9000 Organizations both large and small understand that perfection is a dream, but the pursuit of perfection is what drives efficiencies, process improvements, talent development and more, which should result in increased revenues and bottom line profits. In addition, organizations that manufacture goods and services are always concerned with the quality of the goods and the strategies involved for continued improvements. Heizer and Render (2014) stated that improvements in quality are synonymous with increased sales, reduced costs, and increased overall profitability and that quality falls into three categories, user based, and manufacturing based, and product based. The quality of a product will directly influence an organizations reputation, liability, and global implications. For all these reasons, ISO 9000international quality standards were developed. Organizations looking to introduce ISO 9000 must understand that the program is only as successful as the belief and hard work that is put into it from the employees. In this paper, I will introduce ISO 9000 and explain exactly what this quality management systemdoes. Additionally, I will present the benefits of ISO 9000 and what conditions must be in place for an organization to be successful. • 58. There Is No Unmarked Woman By Deborah Tannen Can a Women be herself? On average women spends $1,832.55 while men spend $691.52 on personal hygiene. In Deborah Tannen s essay There is no unmarked woman Tannen states that it is inevitable for a women to be unmarked. Tannen assert that ways a women is marked include the makeup a woman wears, her clothes, and the amount of jewelry she has on. I agree with Tannen because women aren t able to fully express themselves like men due to the stamp society has placed on us. Women are marked and judged by their outer appearance rather than their innermost. Tannen distinguished that each of the women at the conference had to make decisions about hair, clothing, makeup and accessories, and each decision had a carried meaning (411). Women ... • 60. `` Thought, By Louis H. Sullivan In his essay, Thought, Louis H. Sullivan illustrates the importance of real thinking and creative thinking. He asserts that words are not really necessary to use to express our thoughts. He presents other wordless forms of communication to translate our thoughts into loud expressions. Music, painting, images and other wordless forms are the solution the author suggest, as better forms of communication. Real thinking is better done without words Sullivan argues. Words cut off the inspiration of creative thinking, and disturbs the imagination when someone tries to translate their thoughts into spoken language. According to the author, images are the best way to translate our creative thoughts without the interruption of finding the perfect word to describe an idea. Sullivan attempts to persuade his audience to avoid reading because it deprives them from real thinking: asserting that it must be only done in the present. He discusses that writing is a slow process: many thoughts dissipates as one struggles to put their thoughts into words. Another point that Sullivan argues is that one should only think in the present, and focus in the present alone because the present is the only thing that matters. Sullivan explains, You cannot think in the past, you can only think of the past... you cannot think in the future, you can only think of the future ... One is dead and the other is yet to be born. The author argues that it is not good idea to expand our imagination onward and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
