Warren Buffett Essay
Crafting an essay on Warren Buffett poses a unique set of challenges due to the multifaceted
nature of the subject. Buffett, a renowned investor and philanthropist, has a rich and extensive
life story, making it challenging to condense his accomplishments, investment philosophy, and
overall impact on the financial world into a cohesive and engaging essay.
The difficulty lies in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview of Buffett's
life and career while delving into the key principles that define his investment strategy. It requires
thorough research to understand the intricacies of his decision-making process, the evolution of
his investment philosophy, and the lessons that can be drawn from his success.
Moreover, crafting an essay on Warren Buffett requires careful consideration of the audience. Is
the essay intended for a general audience, financial experts, or students? Tailoring the content to
suit the knowledge level and interests of the readers is crucial to ensuring the essay is both
informative and engaging.
Another challenge is to avoid the trap of merely listing facts and achievements without offering
meaningful insights or analysis. The essay should go beyond the surface, providing a nuanced
understanding of Buffett's contributions to the financial world and his broader influence on
business and investment.
Furthermore, addressing potential counterarguments or criticisms adds complexity to the writing
process. While celebrating Buffett's successes, acknowledging and addressing potential areas of
controversy or debate is essential for presenting a well-rounded and unbiased perspective.
In conclusion, composing an essay on Warren Buffett is a challenging yet rewarding task that
demands thorough research, careful consideration of the target audience, and the ability to
synthesize complex information into a coherent narrative. The goal is not only to inform the
reader but also to offer valuable insights into the life and philosophy of one of the most
successful investors of our time.

Racial Profiling and Male African Americans
What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure
(police, teacher, principal)? In the African Americancommunity it is usually fear and
anxiety of the motive of the authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The
intersection of race and gender for the African American male provides a basis for
premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives. African American
males deserve the same equality to succeed in life as any other human being without
the threat of the damned if you do, damned if you don t moniker that defines the

Now consider the number of innocents that never get this chance at redemption.
Currently the Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic
information and mapping American communities based on crude stereotypes about
which groups commit different types of crime and sharing it with unknown state,
local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union, 2012). Since 9/11 the
operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy have been
obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the
standards of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the
African American male this is nothing new, random searches and undue
investigations have always been a part of being an AAM. From a police
prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing the
communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the
inhabitants. Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a
fatal profile for which there has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff
(2004) in noting that one in four black males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on
probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The research goes further to say that
one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress causing a social
breakdown of communities nationwide.

Gothic Art Research Paper
The Gothic Art is a style which was developed in Western Europe from the Middle
Ages till the Renaissance. The term Gothic has nothing to do with Goths, but was
initially used as a synonym for Barbaric . Gothic art remains a standard one in the
study of art history (Martindale, 2007). The extensive artistic stage that began in the
northern of France had expanded throughout western and central Europe. This period
was defined throughout the cities and was developed at a different pace; included
architecture, sculpture, and painting.

wall painting evolved gradually into the Renaissance style. According to Martindale,
subjects began to change as the Gothic period was coming to an end (2007). Hunting

turned more secular. Both religious and secular subjects were depicted in manuscript

Crack Cocaine And Drug Addiction
The drug crack cocaine is the crystalized form of cocaine that normally comes in a
powder form. Smoking crack cocaine, which is way stronger than crack itself, permits
the drug to reach the brain faster which brings a strong and almost instantaneous high
that endures for approximately fifteen minutes. Because crack cocaineaddiction can
develop quicker if the substance is smoked rather than inhaled, the user can develop
an addiction after their first time even experiencing the drug. Crack cocainehas a high
cost, while crack alone is traded at low cost. Once a crack cocaine user is addicted,
the amount that they tend to use increases and the price also increases causes a
direct struggle for funds in order to pay. The definitions of crack cocaine addictions
can vary, but most incorporate the fact that as a staple norm the persistent use of a
drug notwithstanding the presence of undesirable and damaging consequences and
concerns for the user s well being, employment, financial stability, and relationships
/associations. The significant component of crack cocaine is the users craving and
loss of control, indicating the failure of the user to change their uncontrollable
behavior. From doing research on this topic, I found that cocaine addiction was once
assumed to be mainly mental in nature. In the book that we read in class, Fast Lives
by Claire Sterk, she challenges the common misperceptions of crack cocaine and
shows us through study that the common perceptions that we have

The Genocide Of The Ottoman Empire Essay
The term genocide refers to the systematic killing of a group of people because of
factors that may include race or religion. The Ottoman Empire is to blame for the
Armenia Genocide which took place between 1915 and 1923 and resulted in the
deaths of over 1.5 million. Years after, under Adolf Hitler, Germany was to blame for
the Holocaustwhich resulted in the death of over 6 million Jews. Despite both
genocides taking place in different countries and during different time periods, both
genocides have similarly caused the deaths of millions of innocent people and the
leaders of the Ottoman Empireas well as Germany used humiliation, torture and
propaganda to systematically exterminate people. In 1914, the Ottoman Empire allied
with Germany and the Austro Hungarian Empire. In the same year, religious leaders
declared a jihad, a holy war against all Christians. As a result of Armenians organizing
to help the Russian army fight against the Ottoman Turks, military leaders declared
Armenians as traitors. The government as a result, declared the Armenian people to
be removed.
Armenians have called the Caucasus region of Eurasia home for over 3,000 years.
Armenia was the first country to have Christianity be the official religion of their
country. The Kingdom of Armenia was engulfed into the Ottoman Empire, a vastly
Islam practicing empire by the 15th century. As a result of Ottoman Rulers
historically being Muslim as well as the majority of their subjects, Armenians were
Kent State Shootings Essay
The shootings that occurred at Kent State University, Ohio, on May 4, 1970 have
been a dark spot in American history for almost 36 years. It is a day remembered
by many names, THE KENT STATE SHOOTINGS, MAY 4 or the KENT STATE
MASSACRE. Four students were killed and nine were wounded, all of America
suffered. The student body at Kent State numbered about 20,000 and had been
considered conservative, but not overly political. In fact they were thought of as
rather passive politically. The shootings were a culmination of four days of
demonstrations by members of the student body. The students were protesting the
invasion of Cambodia by American forces. In 1968 Richard Nixon was elected
President. One of the promises he made was to end the... Show more content on

The reactions to the speech and statement were swift and in most cases angry. On
May 1 1970 a massive demonstration was held at Kent State, on the Commons (a
grassy area in the center of campus that is used as a gathering place for rallies) and
another one was planned for May 4. The students were angry and there were many
who were calling to bring the war home. Around midnight some trouble started
when drunken bikers left a bar and started to throw beer bottles at cars. They broke
windows in the downtown area, one a bank window that set off an alarm. The
news spread and several bars closed early to avoid trouble. Soon more people
joined the vandalism and looting, while others stood by and watched. A crowd of
about 100 had gathered by the time the police got there. They appeared to be a mix
of bikers, students and out of town kids who often came to Kent s bars. Some of
them began throwing bottles at the police and the crowd shouted obscenities, it
took about an hour for the police to restore order. On Saturday May 2 Kent s
Mayor, Leroy Satrom declared a state of emergency and asked the Governor, James
A. Rhodes, to send in the National Guard. A large demonstration was under way
when the Guard arrived. The Army ROTC building had been set afire and over one
thousand students had surrounded the building and were

My friends and I went to the mall. We saw a Nike outlet where there were shoes on
sale for 20% off. We went in and each of us selected two pairs of shoes. After we
were tried the shoes on and was contempt with our decisions, we went to the
cashier to pay for the shoes. After we paid for the shoes we left the store and got
something to eat. While we were eating, I was looking at the receipt and noticed
that the prices for each pair of shoes were not 20% off as advertised outside the

The Experience Machine and the Inclusion of Meta Pleasure
Robert Nozick is a philosopher who seeks to disprove the utilitarian notion of
hedonism through a thought experiment that he has entitles The Experience Machine
(Nozick 646). I will first explain the concept of utilitarianism and hedonism, then the
experience machine before I give a reply about the inclusion of a third category of
pleasure which I have called meta pleasure . Finally, I will show how technology may
be disproving the entire experience machine thought experiment altogether.
Utilitarianism is a moral theory that seeks to define right and wrong actions based
solely on the consequences they produce. By utilitarian standards, an act is
determined to be right if and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that we desire, more so than pleasure, to live a life in contact with reality
(Nozick 646). However, I am not convinced that this example on its own proves
hedonism false. Perhaps the idea very idea of connecting to a machine and losing
contact to reality is in itself painful to us, as it presents us with an existential crisis,
and so we choose not to connect to avoid the painful thoughts associated with
having one s mind controlled by a machine. Perhaps, there is a third category of
pleasures that could be called meta pleasures that are the pleasures that come from
knowing that we are in touch with reality and that what we are doing is having a
real effect. Much like personal safety, meta pleasure is only tangible when it is
threatened. We are not able to be aware of or feel our safety, we become aware of it
only when it is threatened by something else, as is the case with meta pleasure. We
only become aware of meta pleasure when something like an experience machine
threatens our notion of the reality we are experiencing and suggests that our minds
could be completely controlled by a machine. If meta pleasure is something that is
real, then the experience machine thought experiment would only further prove
hedonism because it shows that we will desire things which are pleasurable and avoid
those that are painful. On the other hand,
Assess the Usefulness of Social Action Theories in the...
Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach
to studying society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each
other. There are many forms of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic
interactionism, phenomenology and ethnomethodology. They are all based on the
work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged that structural factors can
shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He used this to
explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw
four types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this
includes logical plans which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary
behaviour,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This therefore leaves many sociologists to question whether Blumer s principles
can be used to study society. Labelling theory has also been used to apply the
interactionist theory to society; the theory, like Mead, emphasises the importance
of symbols and situations in which they are used. The main interactionist concepts
are the definition of the situation if we believe in something then it could affect the
way in which we behave. The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who
argues that we see ourselves in a way in which we think others see us. These
concepts have been useful in explaining why people act in certain ways in certain
situations; therefore, the labelling theory is effective in the study of society. Overall,
in conclusion, there are many different social action theories which can be used in
the study of society, however, not all of them can be applied to all
The Absurd Man Is A Man Like Yours Truly
Not only this literature reflects back to me with life but it also reflects back to
Camus philosophy the absurd. In one s own view, the absurd man is a man like yours
truly. Life is absurd: the knowledge that death is inevitable makes life meaningless.
Absurdism is a philosophy stating that the efforts of humanity to find meaning in the
universe will ultimately fail because no such meaning exists (at least in relation to
humanity). As Camus says in An Absurd Reasoning from his essay collection The
Myth Of Sisyphus:
It happens that the stage sets collapse. Rising, streetcar, four hours in the office or
the factory, meal, streetcar, four hours of work, meal, sleep, and Monday Tuesday
Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday according to the same rhythm this path is
easily followed most of the time. But one day the why arises and everything begins in
that weariness tinged with amazement.
This description characterizes Sisyphus and myself perfectly. The essay collection
explained the philosophy of the absurd, and the piece demonstrated the theory.
Absurdity characterizes a world that no longer makes sense to its inhabitants, in
which rational decisions are impossible and all action is futile. The futility of all
human endeavors characterizes many absurdists works. Individuals are powerless to
direct their own lives. Characters who choose different paths ultimately experience
the same outcomes. This suggests the human effort leads to nothing in the end.

Circle Of Friends Movie Analysis
Circle of Friends revolves around the lives and expectations of three young
women, Benny, Eve, and Nan, in 1950 s Ireland. The girls were raised in the
traditional Catholic faith in the small village of Knockglen, Ireland with Nan
moving to Dublin in her youth. They were taught to honor their parents and shun
any and all forms of sexuality. The three eventually meet again at university, where
they begin to challenge the traditional views that they have always taken as law.
The movie documents Benny, Nan, and Eve s desires to remain pure while also
living lives that will bring them happiness. The movie begins with Benny, Eve,
and Nan taking their First Communion. The movie then jumps forward to Benny
and Eve leaving for their first day of college in Dublin, where they are rejoined by
Nan who had moved away earlier. There Benny meets Jack Foley, who she
instantly falls for. Her parents wish her to marry their business partner, Sean
Walsh, but Benny is disgusted by his unnerving advances and personality. Jack
invites Benny to the university ball, where, after dancing with other girls, he
promises to not lead her on and kisses her. Each of the girls now has a love interest:
Benny with Jack, Eve with Aidan, and Nan with Simon Westward. Benny and Jack
each express their desire to have sex, but believe that premarital sex a sin. Benny
rejects sex with Jack, but Nan gives in to her desires and sleeps with Simon. After an
argument with her family, Benny s father dies and she must
Marfan Syndrome Pros And Cons
Marfan syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant disease of the connective tissue,
affecting mostly the skeletal, ocular and cardiovascular systems, caused by
mutations in the FBN1 gene. (Fernandes et al 2016) It was first described just about
100 years ago and was one of the first conditions classified as a heritable disorder of
the connective tissue. MFS lies at one end of a phenotypic spectrum, with people in
the general population who have one or another of the features of MFS at the other
end, and those with a variety of other conditions in between. (Pyeritz 2000) One in
four cases of MFS occur through due to a random mutation the rest are inherited.
(Lima et al 2010) Marfan syndromeaffects anywhere from 1 2/10,000 individuals
and has a large amount of variation in its symptoms and severity. The incredible
variability of Marfan syndrome and the lack of identifiable phenotype genotype
correlations point to the occurrence of modifier genes. (Fernandes et al 2016)
According to Groth et al. the prevalence of MFS could increase because during
their 38 year study they saw a clear rise in prevalence. The age of diagnosis for
MFS can range throughout an entire lifetime however the median age of diagnosis is
19 years old. It has the potential to be a life threatening... Show more content on

The main symptom of MFS is the development of aortic aneurysms, most often in
the root of the aorta, which in turn can lead to dissections of the aorta often
resulting in death. (Franken et al. 2014) An aortic aneurysm is a swelling or
bulging of a blood vessel wall and the greater it grow the thinner and weaker the
wall becomes. If the wall becomes too weak it can burst or tear allowing blood to
rush out which causes the inner and middle layers of the aorta to separate which is
known as an aortic

Should Andrew Jackson be on the Twenty Dollar Bill?
Was Andrew Jackson a hero or a villain? Does he deserve to be on the twenty dollar
bill? The things he did were appealing only for a few. This did not represent all of
the United States. He did what was best for the majority of Americans. His ideas
did not appeal to the rich and well born because his focus was farmers. The
majority is not always what is right. Jackson s approach was very straight forward.
He got rid of people he didn t agree with and hired people who had the same
opinions as him. This led to abuses of political power designed to benefit and enrich
the ruling party. A hero needs to listen to others and not just do what he wishes just
because he has the ultimate power to do so. Andrew Jackson should not be on the
twenty dollar bill because he forced Native Americans out of their homes, did not
follow rules, and had a terrible temper.

not honored or followed by his people. When the Cherokee s land case was taken to

taking the Cherokee s land. Jackson vowed to ignore the Supreme Court s ruling.

The Misuse Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
The Veldt Essay We rely on technology nowadays to do simple tasks for us like dry
our hair, research answers on the web, and watch television for entertainment and
for the news. Technology is being over used for very simple things, what if we
relied on them too much as a whole for us to forget to do simple tasks? Would it be
helpful to us that we rely on technology to do everything for us? In the story The
Veldt , the author Ray Bradburycommunicates that the misuse of technology can lead
to unforeseen disadvantages, he demonstrates the theme through his uses of imagery
and symbolism.
The author Ray Bradbury uses imagery of the setting, which is the house, to develop
the misuse of technology. The story begins with the Hadley s being delusional about
their children, thinking there is something mentally wrong with them because of
what the children s portrayed in the nursery. The nursery in the story is described as
an African Veldt, That sun. He could feel it on his neck, still, like a hot paw. And
the lions. And the smell of blood. This sentence suggests how the African Veldt
looks like a menacing place to be because of the lions that are being visualized. By
doing this, Bradbury highlights the dangers and the reality that the nursery can
sooner or later compose. ...presently an African veldt appeared, in three dimensions,
on all sides, in color reproduced to the final pebble and bit of straw. This quote
implies how the nursery can be realistic due to the children

Parallel universes
Is our universe unique? From science fiction to science fact, there is a proposal out
there that suggests that there could be other universes besides our own, where all the
choices you made in this life played out in alternate realities. So, instead of turning
down that job offer that took you from the United States to China, the alternate
universe would show the outcome if you decided to venture to Asia instead.
The idea is pervasive in comic books and movies. For example, in the 2009 Star
Trek reboot, the premise is that the Kirk and Spock portrayed by Chris Pine and
Zachary Quinto are in an alternate timeline apart from the William Shatner and
Leonard Nimoy versions of the characters.
The concept is known as a parallel universe, and is a facet of the astronomical theory
of the multiverse. There actually is quite a bit of evidence out there for a multiverse.
First, it is useful to understand how our universe is believed to have come to

Diabetic Person s Blood Glucose Level
Blood glucose is the amount of concentration of sugar in a person s blood stream.
It is an energy source for the body s cells, tissues and other body organs such as the
brain, liver and intestines. When a body is at rest a person s blood glucose can
vary from low to high throughout the day. An example of low levels, also known as
hypoglycemia, is when a person wakes up. Whereas high levels, also known as

appeared to being a virtually endless line of clones, my father was formally

It is human nature to interpret and reinterpret life and find meaning of one s place in
the world. Without such knowledge, or belief for that matter, any possibility of
humanity is lost. Hence, humans are plagued with the necessity to interpret
themselves and their connections to their surroundings both human and physical.
Because one s connections and contexts for interpretation are endless in some sense,

Good Drivers, Good And Good
DRIVER HABITS, GOOD AND BAD
Did you ever hear anyone admit to being a bad driver? Probably not, because
everybody thinks they re a good driver. They also think that everybody else is a
menace on the road. If we perfect drivers ride with another driver, we can usually
find fault with their performance. Believe it or not, if they ride with us, they can
return the favor. How can we tell a good driver from a bad one? The number of traffic
accidents they have had would be an obvious indicator, but not necessarily the only
one. There are drivers who have habits that cause others to have accidents.
For instance, imagine you are following two slow cars, and when the way is clear,
you signal and pull out to overtake them. As you come along side the first one, he
begins to pull out to overtake the car in front of him, not seeing you because you
are in his blind spot . You might have a crash which he causes, and he goes on his
merry way. Many people drive with a blind spot on either side of their cars, roughly
alongside the rear fenders. It s simply a bad habit on their part, of not adjusting the
mirrors.

lane, listen up; YOU ARE NOT A COP. Pardon me for yelling, but it is not your
job to make other drivers slow down. You are causing road rage, which causes
wrecks. Florida now has a law against your habit of staying in that left lane. Use it
for overtaking, and then get back in the right lane. See, I m getting road rage just
thinking about you. I may cause my computer to crash because of you. Move over,
The Three Bears In Goldilocks And The Three Bear
Goldilocks and the Three Bears In this story, Goldilocks and the three Bears , there
are three bears who live in a house, and one morning they decide to go for a walk.
Goldilocks then wonders in the bears house and breaks everything. Next, the bears
come home and are very mad and sad that someone would do something like this.
The bears then find Goldilocks on the papa bear s bed and are very angry at her.
Later, Robert Southey, the author of Goldilocks and the Three Bears , has a very
deep history and his story compares and contrast to various cultures around the
world. Further in Goldilocks and the Three Bears , Goldilocks gets told off by the
bears. She gets told off because, she destroyed their possessions and because she
lied to the bears and didn t ask for permission to use their belongings. The bears
didn t trust Goldilocks anymore, and she jumped out an open window that the
bears had next to their bed. None of the bears ever saw Goldilocks ever again. The
bears at that point didn t even care if she got hurt from jumping out of the window,
all they cared about was that she was out of their lives for good. Finally, poor

Historical, Anthropological And Gender Perspective
Every child has the right to education ; I am sure that at some point or the other, we
have all heard some variation of this very powerful statement. However, is every
child given the right to education? We do not have to look far to notice the gaps in
education availability between the developed and developing countries. I will be
comparing and contrasting the educational system in Britain to that of a third world
country, The Gambia. I will explore the history of Western educationin The Gambia,
and how this has played into Gambian perceptions of Western education. Because
this class is interdisciplinary, I will attempt to make my paper well rounded by
explaining my points from various perspectives including a historical, anthropological
and gender perspective. After giving general differences and similarities, I will then
concentrate specifically on the relationship between gender and education in both
regions and how accessibility to education may differ on the basis of gender.

also in the legislature. Formally a British colony, The Gambia gained its

In order to design an effective training, there is a need for the training analysis
which has become fairly very important in today s competitive market areas. The
reasons to conduct the training need analysis to check the gap between the present
performance level and the requirements for the efficient performance. This process
is mainly conducted to detect if the total number of the resources required are fully
available or not. By doing so, a firm or an industry can easily plan its budget, can
easily highlight the areas where there is a necessity for training plus it also helps in
determining the areas and occasions where training might not be fully required but

Now at individual level, each and every person in the company is looked upon.
Here the training need analysis lay emphasis on the essential features required for
effectiveness in the productivity plus it ensures if the employee performs at a below
or an above level of the expectations. Although, there is a connectivity of the
employees performance to the some commonly required terms such as perks, peer
appraisal, performance review, subordinate appraisal, client feedback plus customer
feedback and last but not the least that is self appraisal. The last at an operational
level the analysis is mainly based upon the quality and the quantity of the work that is
assigned to an individual in the organisation. Whether the job is properly understood
by the individual or not is ensured by the job analyst by taking different surveys
within the organisation, by conducting interviews, taking different kinds of tests and
hence knowing the levels of an individual in the organisation.

Me, Myself, and My Body
The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical
aspects of the brain. For years, philosophers have been perplexed by the mind body
problem. The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the
physical aspects of the brain. The mind body problem discusses the mind and body,
along with the relationship between them. Dualists and monists are the two types of
people that take a stand on the issue. While Dualism may spilt mind and body,
monism is the belief that the mind and body are together one. Each of these beliefs
can be broken down into types, justifying monism or dualism. Though each have been
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other side of dualism is interaction. Interaction is the way the mind and body
interact among each other, so the three variations of this are interactionism,
epiphenomenalism, and parallelism. Interactionism is where one believes that the
mind and body influence one another. Next, epiphenomenalism dictates that mental
occurrences are caused by physical ones, but have no influence on the physical. Now
parallelism is different because it shares the view that both mental and physical states
are not casually interacting, yet running in harmony with it. These are all the
different types of dualism that have been theorized to this day.
Many philosophers justify why dualism is the right theory behind the mind body
problem. However, there are others that believe monism is the ideal theory towards
the question. Monism is the view that the mind and body are essentially one. Within
monism there are several different types; idealistic monism, materialistic monism,
neutral monism, reflexive monism, substantial monism, attributive monism, and
absolute monism. To begin, the idealistic monism view is one that shows the mind
being all that exists and that everything else is simply a part of one s mental
depiction. Materialistic monism on the other hand is the complete opposite in that it
holds that only the physical is real and the mind is reduced to the physical. More

Stronger Muscles
Breathing is deeper Muscles start to work harder requiring more oxygen so you
will start to breathe deeper making the lungs work harder and faster to allow more
oxygen to be delivered to your muscles and carbon dioxide to be breathed out.
Temperature goes up Your temperature will go up while you are exercising but it
wont go too high because the blood vessels will go wider allowing heat to leave
which will also allow more blood to flow around your body.
Diffusion in the lung increases(breathing out) As you breathe in faster you also

A parasympathetic response called Vasodilation happens. Blood vessels directing
to the muscles dilate to allow more oxygen to be used. The blood pressure will drop
because of the dilation. When we exercise our body will heat up causing blood
vessels around our skin to dilate, more blood flows and help to reduce the excess
heat in out body.
Vasoconstriction The sympathetic nervous system on the brain causes the heartrate to
increase making your veins constrict. This is called vasoconstriction and the blood
flow will be directed right to the muscle to help it work harder. Temperature
increases to help the flow of blood around the body. Your reflexes will be quicker
and your muscles tense. This facilitates the blood carrying oxygen and removing
waste products.
Exercising stimulates Vasodilation and Vasoconstriction to facilitate the oxygen
delivered to the muscles. It also keeps the blood vessels healthy and stops the
accumulation of cholesterol and harmful substances. It can also help on warming up
and cooling down of the

Essay on Adolescent Violence
Abstract
There is no doubt that violence, especially among youth, is a problem in the U.S.
today. Since 1993, the U.S. has had the highest rate of childhood homicide, suicide,
and firearms related deaths of any of the world s 26 wealthiest nations (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, 1993), stated the authors of the article. Due to
results as stated above by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the
questions what factors cause violent fighting as well as weapon carrying and what
are assets that may help prevent such violence come into mind. The article,

shooting in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999 in which two students who
attending Colombine High opened fire in the school, and shot and killed twelve
students and one teacher, leaving 28 students injured before killing themselves.
These two students, Eric and Dylan, both were in a clique called the Trenchcoat
mafia. The Trenchcoat mafia was a group of outcasts who would wear long black
coats everyday, always bragged about owning guns, and disliked people of a
certain color or race. The reason that these two students opened fire was because
they didn t like being judged or teased by other people because of what they wore
and whom they hung out with. The authors stated, Previous studies have also found
that participation in one risk behavior puts youth at peril for participation in other
risk behaviors (Flisher Kramer, 2000) and that carrying a weapon was predictive of
involvement in violence. The Colombine shooting
Describe the Concept of Jit and Its Relationship to...
Just In Time (JIT) is a management philosophy which implements systems or
processes which aims to maximise return of investment by maximising production
efficiency, improving product quality, reducing manufacturing and logistical costs,
and the elimination of waste. JIT, as the name implies, also means bringing the right
materials at the right place at the right time. Items must arrive as and when they are
needed, neither earlier nor later, but just in time . In its strictest sense, inventoryis
considered a waste in JIT. In logistics, JIT aims to eliminate waste of all forms; be it
time, resources or materials.
Although the JIT concept has been applied loosely for years by various
organisations, the JIT philosophy we know today can be ... Show more content on

Also, the computers delivered were customized according to different customer
requirements, without compromising on quality. With JIT, production levels can be
easily adjusted to meet demand. Integrated supplier and distributor networks were
instrumental in the success of Dell Computers. Without these relationships, Dell
would not have been able to support a 50+% growth rate for 3 consecutive years that
lead to $12 billion in annual sales by 1997. (Fillard, Frahm, Mercer Scott, n.d.)
Although the JIT system managed to revolutionise numerous companies in the
way they run their logistics, it is not all a bed of roses for some companies. Since
JIT does away with supply inventory, companies are sometimes forced to be over
dependent on their JIT suppliers. Sometimes they are at their suppliers mercy.
Examples of this can be found at Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Ford
faced a problem with one of its suppliers which forced them to shut down six plants
which cost them tens of millions of dollars. The supply company for General
Motors had a strike, and supplies could not be delivered. Two thirds of their plants
had to shut down. This cost GM about $600 million in profits in 1996. (Glenn, T.
2001)
For JIT to be efficiently implemented, it is vital for companies to have the right
partner suppliers which share the same JIT commitment and drive. Toyota

Textual Analysis Of Orpheus A Film By Jean Cocteau
Orpheus is a 1950s film by director Jean Cocteau; it is a retelling of the Greek myth
of Orpheus set in contemporary France. An important theme of this film is the
opposition between dreams and reality, and how the former often encroaches over the
latter. The film uses the formal elements of framing and composition, mise en
scГЁne, camera movement and the long taketo represent the conflicts between reality
and dreams.
The framing and composition of the film Orpheus help distinguish between the
dreamlike sequences in the film, in contrast with the scenes that are more grounded
in reality. In dreamlike sequences, the camera is often at an angle that is alienating
and unreal. For example, when Orpheus enters the mirror, the camera is placed above
him; it is an extremely high angle shot, and the director made no attempt to mimic
natural human eyesight, which creates the feeling of unreality of this shot. Another
example would be when Death is taking Eurydice to the Zone. The shot where Death
closes the curtains is a low angle shot, taken from about the height of the floor, and
the emotional response created by this shot is a feeling of spying on something that
mortals should not see: Death at work, which contributes to the unreality of the scene.
Extreme angles in shots are used to alienate the audience and make them more
attentive to the dreamy, illogical atmosphere of the scenes. This contrasts with the
scenes grounded in reality; when Heurtebise tries to warn Orpheus of
The Benefits of the Medicinal Cannabis Plant
Typically when someone hears about the legalization of medicinal cannabis they
only see the benefits derived from the buds rather than the whole plant. Although
the plant that has been around since ancient times for its many uses is finally being
looked at differently. However, we are going to go deeper into what this simple
plant could do for us and how it could save our world for the better. Naturally your
body already makes a chemical that is like marijuana it effects pain, inflammation
and many other processes. The use of medicinal marijuana can help those natural
chemicals work better, says Laura Borgelt Phar.D., of the University of Colorado.
Hemp and Marijuana both derive from the same plant Cannabis.
Hemp is able to make thousands of products; the fibers in hemp are the strongest
and last the longest. Homes could be built and naturally insulated with hemp, thus
reducing or completely cutting out heating cost saving us money on bills. Hemp
can also give us oil, paper and medicine. Hemp clothed American soldiers during
the Revolutionary war, the sails that pushed our ships on the path to the colonies
were even made from hemp and the fuel in Henry Fords Model T was made from
hemp. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp and were puzzled
over the best ways to process the fibers for clothing and rope. In 1619 the Crown
ordered the colonists at Jamestown to grow hemp to satisfy England s enormous
demands for maritime ropes. Jefferson even invented a device
Equality Exposed In Ayn Rand s Anthem
In the book Anthem written by Ayn Rand we are introduced to a man named
Equality 7 2521 who lives in a dystopian city. He faces many difficulties within the
course of the story and finds out that thinking for what s best for yourself is better
than the community. Equality catches interest in a woman in his city named
Liberty 5 3000 but sadly cannot associate with her because men are not allowed to
even notice women. Equality becomes very critical and rebellious throughout the
course of the story just by disobeying the laws of his city. Based on the number of
times Liberty was actually mentioned in the story she was loving and loyal towards
Equality. Equality is a considerably critical man in the story, here are some
examples. Equality states I owe nothing to my brothers nor do I gather debts from
them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others. I covet no man s soul,
nor is my soul theirs to covet (Rand 97). Throughout the story Equality sees many
problems he faces with much thought, he finds the problem and attempts to make it
better. Later in the story Equality runs off to the Uncharted forest and has to find
ways to survive and says why the best in me had been my sins and transgressions
and why I had never felt any guilt in my sins (Rand 98). As this quote was one of the

The Plague by Albert Camus
Running Out of Time Time is only running out, and it is one of the most vital and
overlooked qualities of life. Albert Camus highlights the theme of time in his 1947
novel, The Plague. Through the use of allegory and point of view, Camus
substantiates that when people are not aware of time and its advancing, they are
wasting the precious and limited time of their lives. He constantly establishes that
the amount of consciousness obtained by a person is the difference between
spending time wisely and foolishly. In order to fully utilize it, people need to be
aware of time and its passing. Camus uses point of view to demonstrate through
Tarrou s eyes his vision of time. ...Tarrou added: Query: How contrive not to waste

In its most basic sense, absurdity addresses the meaninglessness of life, with special
attention directed to divine disavowal. Jared White utilizes Absurdism to highlight the
thoughts and meanings that go from individuality to the community. Absurdism is
defined as the philosophy that humans live in essential isolation in an irrational and
meaningless world. White says that when people realize their time has almost no
value in the large scale, they give it up to the remainder of the world. He also claims
that despite of the humans absurd settings, personal gains are favored. White makes
clear that, taken literally, the plague of rats is an epidemic, but, symbolically, the
plague of humans is a pandemic. The smaller outbreak only parallels the massive
disease that people are infected with. White also argues that The Plague is in part a
historical allegory, in which the plague signifies the German occupation of France
from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. In a deft narrative act, Camus allegorically
uses the plague to consider not only his personal situation sick, exiled, and restricted
but also the European conflict. Bernard further elaborates that Camus wrote La Peste
with the plague as an obvious reference to the kind of imprisonment [. . .] the
Germans imposed on occupied France (165). Oran is cut off from the outside world,
which is equivalent to France; the different attitudes of the
Symphony Number 5 Essay
In the closing scene of Act II of Swan Lake, Siegfried lifts Odette high into the air
right when the piano forte string hit is played; Odette is slowly lowered as the
famous oboe solo beginning on an F sharp gracefully drops down to a B. In
Beethoven s Symphony Number 5, the entire symphony is silent while the oboist has
an improvised solo in a still concert hall. In the Symphony in C by Bizet, the oboe
solo is embellished with beautiful sixteenth note turns, which still manage to sound
graceful. These solos will forever be remembered in the history of music, whether or
not people know the musician or even the instrument playing said solo or not. The
oboe s piercing yet beautiful sound is caused by the double reed that is used
instead of mouthpiece like other woodwind instruments. A double reed is simply a
piece of cane that is folded over, tied to a tube of cork called a staple, trimmed, and
shaved. This sounds like a simple process, but it actually stops many oboists from
pursuing music as they graduate high school and go into college. This is a very
taxing and frustrating part of being an oboist, and without it, it is impossible to
succeed. Simply buying a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if the cane is hard, the oboist needs to scrape the reed more for the
reed to be able to vibrate, slighter higher pitch, and are more likely to last longer.
Softer and more medium hardness reeds require a thicker finisher gouger, the reed
maker will have to scrape less, but the reed has a flatter pitch and will not last as
long (Midwest Musical Imports). If the cane s grain is not tight enough, it will not
go through the gouger properly. Just like all woodwind instruments, every single
oboe varies on note pitches. For example, an A on one style Josef oboe may be
slightly flat, while an A on the exact same style Josef oboe will be perfectly in
The Importance Of Grief Counseling
Grief counseling is a much needed field in the new millennia. As population grow
and expand, races collide in culture, religion, and grief. It is imperative that Pastors,
leaders, and average society understand the dynamics of grief and suffering. More
important, counselors must learn how to balance their lives and the ones they chose
to consul. Griefcounselors need to be compassionate, attentive, yet balanced in order
to be an effective treatment for their clients. Understanding how to conduct an
assessment and intervene with bereaved children, adolescents, adults, and families
are important skills for professionals working in the field of social work, nursing,
school and pastoral counseling, psychology, and other helping professions
(Pomeroy, Garcia). A grief counselor s main objective is to help individuals or
families reach closure over the loss or death of a loved one and begin the process
of restoring their lives to a productive means. Each client or family is different and
knowing how to connect with the client s culture and religious quarries can be
draining. Yet, respect of the client s ideology is essential to creating a healing
environment. First, grief counselors must be compassionate. As the care provided to
the dying has matured over the past 30 years with the establishment of the hospice
movement, as well as Right to Die societies, it was inevitable that a new wave of
writings would be needed to explain the process of dying to generations unfamiliar

African Americans And Its Impact On Society
African Americans have been through so much since being uprooted from their
home in Africa. Most people do not understand what happened to African
Americans and they understand what they had to go through to be where they are
today. It went from being kings in the comfort of their home to being thrown on a
boat packed like sardines to be forced to work in the fields. The trip was a massacre
itself because many did not make it due to the treatment from others. African
Americans have always been treated like outsiders and it took many people to sway
the perception of others to be where they are today. Through all the ups and downs
African Americans persevered and made it out the struggle. African Americans has
always been treated badly all groups of people and they always looked down on
African Americans. Throughout the history involving African American, it showed the
constant inferiority treatment. African Americans were slaves years ago, people
still look at blacks as less important than other people. Slavery has a huge impact on
our society today because people are still bias and unfair towards African Americans,
most African Americans are still living in poverty and don t have proper education
beyond high school which is why they don t have the equal opportunity for jobs.
African Americans still continue to sit in the shadow behind white people.
In the past history, African Americans were slaves and were looked at and thought of
as less important than whites. Still today
Australia Fraud Research Paper
Fraud costs the Australian economy approximately $3 billion annually (Standards
Australia 2008), and its frequency and financial impact continues to grow (Standards
Australia 2008 ; KPMG 2008). Many organizations are poorly prepared to prevent
and detect fraud (KPMG 2009 ; KPMG 2008 ; KPMG 2007 ; KPMG 2004). Fraud
prevention is not perfect therefore, fraud detection is crucial. Fraud detection
strategies are intended to quickly and efficiently identify those frauds that have

categories. The production of fraudulent statements is most of the time orchestrated

A Good Life Essay
Throughout this semester we have struggled to define the common good and what
constitutes a good life. While the definition of what is a good life can vary from
person to person, whether that mean academic achievement, financial success, or a
certain social status; for me, a good life is a life driven through goals and purpose.
A life in which you set goals and strive to reach them despite the physical, mental, or
emotional obstacles that can get in your way. In Viktor Frankl s What is a Good

Often times when it comes to service, you, yourself are leading a meaningful life in
order to give those you are helping a happy life, because without you they wouldn t
have either. This experience, as well as being surrounded by these individuals has
led me to develop a passion for the victims of domestic violence and has pushed me
to be as involved as I can to help reach the goal of eliminating this issue all together.
I think this relates to several of the things we have read in class, for example, in The
Humanitarian Leader in Each of Us where Inderjit Khurana focused on the children in
the train stations, not the 20,000 children in Bhubaneswar who are not in school
(LaFasto and Larson, 50). I know that I alone cannot eliminate domestic violence, but
I choose to focus on the women and children of my county. Not only has this
experience given meaning to my life, it has also brought me happiness in that I am
more thankful for the things that I have and the people that are in my life. Which
ultimately for me, defines a good life.
I also believe my service relates to the other part that I stated about how the good
life is one where you strive to achieve goals despite obstacles, and I think this
relates very well to Brian Stevenson and his work. Not only did he work in a
similar way to Inderjit Khurana and Mama Liz of The Humanitarian Leader in Each
of Us, where he strove to help those that he was capable of helping, therefore
focusing on the people, not the problem;
Mandatory Sex Education Classes Essay
Arizona is rated the fourth highest state for teen pregnancy for ages 15 19 years
old. For every 1,000 girls 70 teens are pregnant. Also, Arizona is ranked 16th
highest state for syphilis, as well as 11th highest state for chlamydia. In the state of
Arizona, 406 people out of 100,000 have reported consuming an STD. The average
national rate of STD cases reported for every 100,000 people is 348 (Innes). From
the look of these statistics the state of Arizona has a problem with teen pregnancy
and STD s. Lowering these rates will not only help the economy, but as well as help
the lives of the younger generation. A proven way to lower these terribly high rates is
sex education. Sex education not only informs students of the consequences from...

A big opposition of sex education is for religious reasons. Along with the religious
reasons most parents are against sex education, because they believe that exposing
children to sex at an early age through a health education class will cause them to
have sex earlier than they should (Why). Parents do not want to put the thought of
sex into their children s mind. Although, sex is already a thought in a child s mind,
it just is not understood. According to Eric Meyer, a board member of the
Scottsdale Unified School District, From a public health standpoint, this is the only
place our kids get this information. And if they opt out, they won t get it anywhere
(Faller). While all parents have concerns when it comes to their child and sex, bring
provided with medically accurate sex education is beneficial for the health and safety
of the child.
A positive attribute to having sex education in all school curriculums, is that
knowledge gained from this class is completely accurate in the medical standpoint. In
order for schools to teach sex education, their curriculum has to be approved by the
Arizona Department of Education. The Department of Education consult with nurses
and other medical associates to find and provide the best, medically accurate sex
education curriculum. Another aspect for the curriculum is different myths of sex
can be eliminated. For example, most teens believe that a girl cannot become
pregnant when

Warren Buffett Essay.pdf

  • 1. Warren Buffett Essay Crafting an essay on Warren Buffett poses a unique set of challenges due to the multifaceted nature of the subject. Buffett, a renowned investor and philanthropist, has a rich and extensive life story, making it challenging to condense his accomplishments, investment philosophy, and overall impact on the financial world into a cohesive and engaging essay. The difficulty lies in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview of Buffett's life and career while delving into the key principles that define his investment strategy. It requires thorough research to understand the intricacies of his decision-making process, the evolution of his investment philosophy, and the lessons that can be drawn from his success. Moreover, crafting an essay on Warren Buffett requires careful consideration of the audience. Is the essay intended for a general audience, financial experts, or students? Tailoring the content to suit the knowledge level and interests of the readers is crucial to ensuring the essay is both informative and engaging. Another challenge is to avoid the trap of merely listing facts and achievements without offering meaningful insights or analysis. The essay should go beyond the surface, providing a nuanced understanding of Buffett's contributions to the financial world and his broader influence on business and investment. Furthermore, addressing potential counterarguments or criticisms adds complexity to the writing process. While celebrating Buffett's successes, acknowledging and addressing potential areas of controversy or debate is essential for presenting a well-rounded and unbiased perspective. In conclusion, composing an essay on Warren Buffett is a challenging yet rewarding task that demands thorough research, careful consideration of the target audience, and the ability to synthesize complex information into a coherent narrative. The goal is not only to inform the reader but also to offer valuable insights into the life and philosophy of one of the most successful investors of our time. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or other writing tasks, various resources are available, such as professional writing services. Racial Profiling and the African American Male Racial Profiling and Male African Americans Tanika Williams SOC/120 March 4, 2012 Renisha Gibbs Racial Profiling and Male African Americans What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure (police, teacher, principal)? In the African Americancommunity it is usually fear and anxiety of the motive of the authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African American male provides a basis for premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives. African American males deserve the same equality to succeed in life as any other human being without the threat of the damned if you do, damned if you don t moniker that defines the functional ability ... Currently the Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union, 2012). Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy have been obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this is nothing new, random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an AAM. From a police prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing the communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants. Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The research goes further to say that one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide. Let s not assume that the
  • 3. Gothic Art Research Paper The Gothic Art is a style which was developed in Western Europe from the Middle Ages till the Renaissance. The term Gothic has nothing to do with Goths, but was initially used as a synonym for Barbaric . Gothic art remains a standard one in the study of art history (Martindale, 2007). The extensive artistic stage that began in the northern of France had expanded throughout western and central Europe. This period was defined throughout the cities and was developed at a different pace; included architecture, sculpture, and painting. Architecture was the most important and original art from during the Gothic period. It began in Italy in the 13th century and spread throughout Europe; so as to the 15th century it had become the predominant form replacing even the windows. Panel and wall painting evolved gradually into the Renaissance style. According to Martindale, subjects began to change as the Gothic period was coming to an end (2007). Hunting scenes, chivalric themes, and depictions of historical events arose as the century turned more secular. Both religious and secular subjects were depicted in manuscript illuminations. Many manuscripts were royal bibles and missals also included illustrations; although miniature these represented complete documentation of the Gothic painting. • 4. Crack Cocaine And Drug Addiction The drug crack cocaine is the crystalized form of cocaine that normally comes in a powder form. Smoking crack cocaine, which is way stronger than crack itself, permits the drug to reach the brain faster which brings a strong and almost instantaneous high that endures for approximately fifteen minutes. Because crack cocaineaddiction can develop quicker if the substance is smoked rather than inhaled, the user can develop an addiction after their first time even experiencing the drug. Crack cocainehas a high cost, while crack alone is traded at low cost. Once a crack cocaine user is addicted, the amount that they tend to use increases and the price also increases causes a direct struggle for funds in order to pay. The definitions of crack cocaine addictions can vary, but most incorporate the fact that as a staple norm the persistent use of a drug notwithstanding the presence of undesirable and damaging consequences and concerns for the user s well being, employment, financial stability, and relationships /associations. The significant component of crack cocaine is the users craving and loss of control, indicating the failure of the user to change their uncontrollable behavior. From doing research on this topic, I found that cocaine addiction was once assumed to be mainly mental in nature. In the book that we read in class, Fast Lives by Claire Sterk, she challenges the common misperceptions of crack cocaine and shows us through study that the common perceptions that we have

  • 6. The Genocide Of The Ottoman Empire Essay The term genocide refers to the systematic killing of a group of people because of factors that may include race or religion. The Ottoman Empire is to blame for the Armenia Genocide which took place between 1915 and 1923 and resulted in the deaths of over 1.5 million. Years after, under Adolf Hitler, Germany was to blame for the Holocaustwhich resulted in the death of over 6 million Jews. Despite both genocides taking place in different countries and during different time periods, both genocides have similarly caused the deaths of millions of innocent people and the leaders of the Ottoman Empireas well as Germany used humiliation, torture and propaganda to systematically exterminate people. In 1914, the Ottoman Empire allied with Germany and the Austro Hungarian Empire. In the same year, religious leaders declared a jihad, a holy war against all Christians. As a result of Armenians organizing to help the Russian army fight against the Ottoman Turks, military leaders declared Armenians as traitors. The government as a result, declared the Armenian people to be removed. Armenians have called the Caucasus region of Eurasia home for over 3,000 years. The student body at Kent State numbered about 20,000 and had been considered conservative, but not overly political. In fact they were thought of as rather passive politically. On May 1 1970 a massive demonstration was held at Kent State, on the Commons (a grassy area in the center of campus that is used as a gathering place for rallies) and another one was planned for May 4. The students were angry and there were many who were calling to bring the war home. Around midnight some trouble started when drunken bikers left a bar and started to throw beer bottles at cars. They broke windows in the downtown area, one a bank window that set off an alarm. The news spread and several bars closed early to avoid trouble. Soon more people joined the vandalism and looting, while others stood by and watched. A crowd of about 100 had gathered by the time the police got there. They appeared to be a mix of bikers, students and out of town kids who often came to Kent s bars. Some of them began throwing bottles at the police and the crowd shouted obscenities, it took about an hour for the police to restore order. The Experience Machine and the Inclusion of Meta Pleasure Robert Nozick is a philosopher who seeks to disprove the utilitarian notion of hedonism through a thought experiment that he has entitles The Experience Machine (Nozick 646). I will first explain the concept of utilitarianism and hedonism, then the experience machine before I give a reply about the inclusion of a third category of pleasure which I have called meta pleasure . Finally, I will show how technology may be disproving the entire experience machine thought experiment altogether. Utilitarianism is a moral theory that seeks to define right and wrong actions based solely on the consequences they produce. By utilitarian standards, an act is determined to be right if and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that we desire, more so than pleasure, to live a life in contact with reality (Nozick 646). However, I am not convinced that this example on its own proves hedonism false. Perhaps the idea very idea of connecting to a machine and losing contact to reality is in itself painful to us, as it presents us with an existential crisis, and so we choose not to connect to avoid the painful thoughts associated with having one s mind controlled by a machine. Perhaps, there is a third category of pleasures that could be called meta pleasures that are the pleasures that come from knowing that we are in touch with reality and that what we are doing is having a real effect. Much like personal safety, meta pleasure is only tangible when it is threatened. We are not able to be aware of or feel our safety, we become aware of it only when it is threatened by something else, as is the case with meta pleasure. We only become aware of meta pleasure when something like an experience machine threatens our notion of the reality we are experiencing and suggests that our minds could be completely controlled by a machine. If meta pleasure is something that is real, then the experience machine thought experiment would only further prove hedonism because it shows that we will desire things which are pleasurable and avoid those that are painful. On the other hand,
  • 10. Assess the Usefulness of Social Action Theories in the... Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach to studying society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each other. There are many forms of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He used this to explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw four types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this includes logical plans which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary behaviour,... Labelling theory has also been used to apply the interactionist theory to society; the theory, like Mead, emphasises the importance of symbols and situations in which they are used. The main interactionist concepts are the definition of the situation if we believe in something then it could affect the way in which we behave. The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who argues that we see ourselves in a way in which we think others see us. These concepts have been useful in explaining why people act in certain ways in certain situations; therefore, the labelling theory is effective in the study of society. Overall, in conclusion, there are many different social action theories which can be used in the study of society, however, not all of them can be applied to all
  • 11. The Absurd Man Is A Man Like Yours Truly Not only this literature reflects back to me with life but it also reflects back to Camus philosophy the absurd. In one s own view, the absurd man is a man like yours truly. Life is absurd: the knowledge that death is inevitable makes life meaningless. Absurdism is a philosophy stating that the efforts of humanity to find meaning in the universe will ultimately fail because no such meaning exists (at least in relation to humanity). As Camus says in An Absurd Reasoning from his essay collection The Myth Of Sisyphus: It happens that the stage sets collapse. Rising, streetcar, four hours in the office or the factory, meal, streetcar, four hours of work, meal, sleep, and Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday according to the same rhythm this path is easily followed most of the time. But one day the why arises and everything begins in that weariness tinged with amazement. This description characterizes Sisyphus and myself perfectly. The essay collection explained the philosophy of the absurd, and the piece demonstrated the theory. Absurdity characterizes a world that no longer makes sense to its inhabitants, in which rational decisions are impossible and all action is futile. The futility of all human endeavors characterizes many absurdists works. Individuals are powerless to direct their own lives. Characters who choose different paths ultimately experience the same outcomes. This suggests the human effort leads to nothing in the end. Although, this

After giving general differences and similarities, I will then concentrate specifically on the relationship between gender and education in both regions and how accessibility to education may differ on the basis of gender. Mind And Body Patrick Katz PHI 1103 Michael Bruno Word Count 1218 5 May 2016 Me, Myself, and My Body The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical aspects of the brain. For years, philosophers have been perplexed by the mind body problem. The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical aspects of the brain. The mind body problem discusses the mind and body, along with the relationship between them. Dualists and monists are the two types of people that take a stand on the issue. While Dualism may spilt mind and body, monism is the belief that the mind and body are together one. Each of these beliefs can be broken down into types, justifying monism or dualism. Though each have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other side of dualism is interaction. Interaction is the way the mind and body interact among each other, so the three variations of this are interactionism, epiphenomenalism, and parallelism. Interactionism is where one believes that the mind and body influence one another. Next, epiphenomenalism dictates that mental occurrences are caused by physical ones, but have no influence on the physical. Now parallelism is different because it shares the view that both mental and physical states are not casually interacting, yet running in harmony with it. These are all the different types of dualism that have been theorized to this day. Many philosophers justify why dualism is the right theory behind the mind body problem. However, there are others that believe monism is the ideal theory towards the question. Monism is the view that the mind and body are essentially one. Within monism there are several different types; idealistic monism, materialistic monism, neutral monism, reflexive monism, substantial monism, attributive monism, and absolute monism. To begin, the idealistic monism view is one that shows the mind being all that exists and that everything else is simply a part of one s mental depiction. Materialistic monism on the other hand is the complete opposite in that it holds that only the physical is real and the mind is reduced to the physical. More specific

Although the JIT system managed to revolutionise numerous companies in the way they run their logistics, it is not all a bed of roses for some companies. Since JIT does away with supply inventory, companies are sometimes forced to be over dependent on their JIT suppliers. Sometimes they are at their suppliers mercy. Examples of this can be found at Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Ford faced a problem with one of its suppliers which forced them to shut down six plants which cost them tens of millions of dollars. The supply company for General Motors had a strike, and supplies could not be delivered. Two thirds of their plants had to shut down. This cost GM about $600 million in profits in 1996. (Glenn, T. 2001) For JIT to be efficiently implemented, it is vital for companies to have the right partner suppliers which share the same JIT commitment and drive. Toyota

  • 33. Textual Analysis Of Orpheus A Film By Jean Cocteau Orpheus is a 1950s film by director Jean Cocteau; it is a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus set in contemporary France. An important theme of this film is the opposition between dreams and reality, and how the former often encroaches over the latter. The film uses the formal elements of framing and composition, mise en scГЁne, camera movement and the long taketo represent the conflicts between reality and dreams. The framing and composition of the film Orpheus help distinguish between the dreamlike sequences in the film, in contrast with the scenes that are more grounded in reality. In dreamlike sequences, the camera is often at an angle that is alienating and unreal. For example, when Orpheus enters the mirror, the camera is placed above him; it is an extremely high angle shot, and the director made no attempt to mimic natural human eyesight, which creates the feeling of unreality of this shot. Another example would be when Death is taking Eurydice to the Zone. The shot where Death closes the curtains is a low angle shot, taken from about the height of the floor, and the emotional response created by this shot is a feeling of spying on something that mortals should not see: Death at work, which contributes to the unreality of the scene. Extreme angles in shots are used to alienate the audience and make them more attentive to the dreamy, illogical atmosphere of the scenes. This contrasts with the scenes grounded in reality; when Heurtebise tries to warn Orpheus of

In its most basic sense, absurdity addresses the meaninglessness of life, with special attention directed to divine disavowal. Jared White utilizes Absurdism to highlight the thoughts and meanings that go from individuality to the community. Absurdism is defined as the philosophy that humans live in essential isolation in an irrational and meaningless world. White says that when people realize their time has almost no value in the large scale, they give it up to the remainder of the world. He also claims that despite of the humans absurd settings, personal gains are favored. White makes clear that, taken literally, the plague of rats is an epidemic, but, symbolically, the plague of humans is a pandemic. The smaller outbreak only parallels the massive disease that people are infected with. White also argues that The Plague is in part a historical allegory, in which the plague signifies the German occupation of France from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. In a deft narrative act, Camus allegorically uses the plague to consider not only his personal situation sick, exiled, and restricted but also the European conflict. Bernard further elaborates that Camus wrote La Peste with the plague as an obvious reference to the kind of imprisonment [. . .] the Germans imposed on occupied France (165). Oran is cut off from the outside world, which is equivalent to France; the different attitudes of the

These solos will forever be remembered in the history of music, whether or not people know the musician or even the instrument playing said solo or not. The oboe s piercing yet beautiful sound is caused by the double reed that is used instead of mouthpiece like other woodwind instruments. A double reed is simply a piece of cane that is folded over, tied to a tube of cork called a staple, trimmed, and shaved.
