The Role of Intra-party Opposition in National Liberation...
The Role of Intra party Opposition in National Liberation Movements By and large, in the latter
half of the twentieth century a regime change has meant the victory of a leftist national liberation
movement over an oppressive power; whether the new regime makes good on its stated purpose of
delivering justice to its people has not evidenced such a standard pattern, however. While liberation
movements such as the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa were able successfully to
convert their role as revolutionary freedom fighters into democratic participation in the state
(Connell, 9), movements such as Castro s Cuban Revolution, while accomplishing regime change,
failed to deliver a successful state. This paper suggests that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Radical Islamic Palestinian nationalist groups, the most prominent of which is Hamas, adamantly
resist any concessions to the state of Israel and maintain that the PA should not be negotiating with
the Israeli government. While there is little question that Hamas and similar organizations have had
both the intent and the effect of erecting impediments on the road to a peace in the Middle East,
this paper aims to dispel the notion that Palestinian opposition groups have completely derailed the
peace process. Instead, I will argue that the presence of such vehement dissent is a necessary part
to a lasting peace accord and to a stable two state solution, as this intra party opposition is often the
most difficult hurdle to surmount for a national liberation movement that is attempting to rise to
state power. To be clear, I argue that a critical first step to running a peaceful democratic state,
before territory or infrastructure, is to pacify radical parties in a non dictatorial fashion; a process
by which a new political regime proves itself capable of state governance by tying together the
moderate with the extreme.
I further assert that the notion is incorrect that because the PA is born out of the PLO, an
organization that employed guerrilla tactics to spoil peace efforts, the new Authority is necessarily
an untrustworthy body. I will argue that in the majority of cases, as exemplified by South Africa,

Jerks Is An Original Dark Comedy
HYPNIC JERKS is an original dark comedy/horror script that features a very likable protagonist
with a very intriguing sleep disorder. The idea of hypnic jerks is very refreshing as a flaw and it
s a disorder not often talked about. It s nice to see it in the script. The tone combines dark comedy
with horror elements. The script explores themes about life choices and destiny. The script offers a
couple of nice twists.
The highlight is the main character of Ray. He s a charming, yet troubled man, but one can t help
but like him and his dog, Bonham. Equally likable and intriguing is Ambrosia.
As much as one enjoys the characters, the script would benefit from more development in the areas
of structure and plot.
The main concern about the presentation is the lack of a well identifiable goal for Ray. The
plotline isn t entirely clear. Ray transforms himself into a vampire, which appears to be motivated
by the idea of the Vampire Festival, but that doesn t feel like a strong enough motivation.
In addition, the link between Ray transforming into a vampire and his sleep disorder isn t
entirely well connected. He s trying to write, but this too, unfortunately never feels like Ray s
true, actionable goal. Now, if Ray were trying to write about vampires and felt he needed to live
his life like a vampire to help him write to make the world more believable, this would connect his
behavior to his objective.
In addition, there s a subplot about women being stalked and then

Environmental Impacts Of Hurricane Sandy
When Hurricanes Attack
Colby Tibbitts
Natural Disasters
02/25/16
During the last few months of 2012, the world was in shock when Hurricane Sandy formed and
disrupted the lives of many people. Hurricane Sandy began on October 22 as a tropical storm in
the Caribbean, then a couple days later developed into a hurricane in the Jamaican area. On
October 29, Hurricane Sandy made its way into New Jersey as a category 2 storm, but eventually
started effecting the northeastern region of The United States. States like Florida, Maine, and New
York were greatly affected. Hurricane Sandy was recorded as the largest Atlantic hurricane. The
wind diameter was up 1100 miles. (Trento and Allen, 2014). The way Hurricane Sandy formed was
a very rare climate event, according to Yuval Neria and James M. Shultz. Sandy merged with a
polar jet stream and formed a rare hybrid of a post tropical cyclone and winter storm (Neria and
Shultz, 2012). Hurricane Sandy was breaking all kind of records along the coast. When making
landfall, Sandy s minimum central pressure dropped 946mb, which was the ... Show more content

According to John Manuel, Sandy was accountable for an estimate of 234 deaths in 8 countries.
The almost half the deaths, around 97, were reported around the New York metropolitan area.
During the storm, buses and power were down, which made it almost impossible to continue
going on after Sandy hit. The power was out for around 8.5 million days and even weeks after
Sandy hit. Unfortunately, with the damage that Sandy has done on top of the loss of power,
technology was failing. Not only were televisions and phones down, but heating systems and life
support in hospitals were failing also. (Manuel, 2013). Sandy caused about an estimate of
346,000 homes damaged and cost about $65 billion in damages. In NYC alone, the cost was $19
billion and in New Jersey cost as around $30 billion in damages (Trento and Allen,

Role Of Discipline In The Uniformed Public Service
Need for and role of discipline in the uniformed public service Discipline is the quality of being
able to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying particular rules or standards.
However, it can be interpreted in an alternative way; if you refer to an activity or situation as a
discipline, you mean that, in order to be successful in it, you need to behave in a strictly controlled
way and obey particular rules or standards. Punishment can be used to correct disobedience in some
circumstances. Rank Hierarchy in UK Police:Police Constable Sergeant Inspector Chief Inspector

With rules and regulations put in place, it allows individuals to understand what is acceptable
and what cannot be justified. For example, a rule has been strictly put into place stating that
every public service worker is forbidden from consuming any amount of alcohol whilst on duty
or before shift. This can be appropriately justified due to any uniformed public service worker
under the influence of alcohol having a disorientated mind set because of alcohol having
negative effects and affecting different aspects on an individual s physical and mental
wellbeing. In addition, an alternative justification would be regarding the fact that those within
the public service are required to serve and protect public citizens, as well as enforce laws. For
example, if a police officer was caught in the action of drunk driving and pulled over a member
of the public for the same offense, this would contradict the police officers actions and he will not
be able to fully justify himself as to why he had committed those actions. Society is maintained and
ordered with rules and regulations put into place, which are enforced by those within the
uniformed public services. With laws that prove actions such as murder are illegal; all those who
work within the uniformed public service attempt to prevent murder occurring in society and create
a safer environment, and aiming to detain those who do go against the law ensuring they serve a

Bipolar And Bipolar Disorder ( Bipolar )
Bipolar robs you of that which is you. It can take from you the very core of your being and replace
it with something that is completely opposite of who and what you truly are (A. Reyan 2015).
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that alters a person s life, they can never go back to who they
were before. It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder
(everydayhealth.com 2015). Bipolar disorder is broken down into two types; bipolar I and bipolar
II disorder. Bipolar I disorder must contain one manic episode in a person s life. Whereas Bipolar II
disorder requires one hypomanic episode to occur. The prevalence of Bipolar disorder is around 4%
within the United States, with only 1.0% of that being Bipolar I disorder. Not a lot of research has
been done, to determine which race is more prevalent for this disorder (NIMH.org 2015). People of
lower socioeconomic status have been linked to have higher rates of Bipolar I disorder. Bipolar I
disorder is more common among women than men, with a ratio of ~3:2 (CDC.org 2015). Bipolar I
disorder typically develops in a person s late teen or early adulthood with an average onset age of
25 years old. Bipolar I disorder is defined as manic depressive illness, is a brain disorder that
causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day to day tasks
(NIMH.org 2015). Symptoms need to last 7 days or have manic symptoms so severe that the person

Effects Of Distracted Driving On Public Service Announcements
Over the years we have come to be excited and weary for the new technological advances. However,
the outcome of these advances is causing major controversial debates worldwide. A paramount
complication with technology has been confronted such as; Distracted Driving and the effect on
this based on PSA s. One might say the public service announcements will affect the numbers of
distracted driving, while others believe that public service announcements is doing nothing to
diminish the numbers of distracted drivers. With more than a handful of public service
announcements on distracted driving to give knowledge of the fatal consequences, it could be
argued that PSA s have been seen yet ignored. Public service announcements come in many various

The Effects Of Concussions On Athletes And Concussions
Lastly, having multiple concussions produce long term effects on athletes. This was proven by a
study performed that compared athletes with a history of concussions to athletes with no
concussion history using a concussion test known as: Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and
Cognitive Testing (ImPACT). This is a computerized test that measures memory capabilities to
determine if an athlete has a concussion. It was taken by the athletes prior to their season to find a
baseline level. This baseline would then be used to determine if someone has a concussion by
comparing it to a post concussion result of the ImPACT. Every athlete in this study was given the
ImPACT test within five days of sustaining a concussion. The results from this... Show more content

These lawsuits represented over 2,000 former players claiming that the NFL didn t teach them
the dangers of a concussion. On August 29, 2013, over a year after the lawsuits were filed, there
was an agreement between the NFL and the players; the NFL agreed to pay $765 million to pay
for medical examinations, compensation for the concussed athletes, and research towards
concussions. Just as the NFL thought the lawsuits were over, on January 14, 2014, the agreement
was declined by a federal judge because the judge believed that $765 million was not enough
money ( NFL Concussion ). These lawsuits over the issue of concussions prove that the athletes
have experienced a multitude of medical issues that resulted from multiple concussions. These
former athletes are working hard to ensure that young athletes do not have to suffer like they do.
The issue of multiple concussions is finally becoming recognized by major sports. The awareness
has led to a variety of interventions to help protect athletes. There have been two recent
interventions concerning football helmets. First off, Riddell, a company that produces football
helmets, has released a new helmet that is supposed to best prevent concussions. This helmet is
known as the Revolution Speed. Using advanced technology, the Speed helmets were designed

The Struggle For Self Occeptance In Boys And Girls By...
Every individual struggle with self acceptance at some point in their life, furthermore, every
individual chooses to exemplify their struggle to accept themselves in different methods. In the
short story Boys and Girls Alice Munro focuses on the narration of a girl, in which girls are
underappreciated in the society. The protagonistin the story cannot accept who she is, and it makes
it harder for her as other individuals do not accept who she wishes to be. The author demonstrates
this through the character s external motivations. As the story is written in third person limited
readers understand the girls personal thoughts and how she is internally conflicted about who she
is. She feels underappreciated for the work that she provides which influences her to be disobedient
to others around her. Alice Munroe s short storyBoys and Girls demonstrates to readers that
individuals struggle for self acceptance through the expression of their external and internal
motivations. Because of their motivations, individuals feel rebellious against their self conscience.
Many individuals feel influenced from their relatives or friends to act and be a certain way to be
accepted in their society, this causes them to react and respond in a certain way. In the short story
Boys and Girls , the protagonist struggles to gain self acceptance because of other people around
her influencing the ways in which she should live. The girl much prefers to work outside with her

Effective Advocates For Small Business Utilization Essay
To be effective advocates for small business utilization in DoD acquisitions, Small Business
Professionals (SBPs) need to participate early in the acquisition process and throughout it, and
become trusted members of the team. To accomplish this, SBPs must be knowledgeable of pre and
post award support they can provide to the acquisition team, as well as how small businesses can
help DoD meet its procurement requirements. SBPs have the greatest influence during the pre
solicitation phase of the process. The social initiative is to be recognized as trusted advisors where
they understand the customer s requirements and are knowledgeable of small businessprograms. As
an acquisition sustainability strategy determines, SBPs should provide information on small
businesses and how they might meet the requirements. Reciprocity relates to the idea that
people like to return favors and pay back debts, which can lead to feeling obliged to repay an
offer in some way to address discomfort with feeling indebted to someone else. Commitment is
associated with the desire to follow through on something we ve expressed interest in previously.
Social proof is linked to the idea that if others are doing something we re more likely to do it as
well, particularly when feeling uncertain. Liking suggests that people are more likely to be
influenced by people they like, which can come from similarity, trust, and familiarity. Authority is
associated with credibility; people are more likely to

The Iroquois tribe has been around since before the 1500 s. Their stories have been passed down

The culture of the Iroquois mostly revolved in their tribes and clans. The women owned all

Summary Of The Documentary FRESH By Ana Sofia Joanes
FRESH is a documentary by Ana Sofia Joanes, she explores the consequences of our current
agricultural system and documents the work of farmers, activists, non profit organizations and
business that advocate for sustainable agricultural practices to address the problem. The film
presents the farmers from Shenandoah Valley that practice traditional farming by raising and
keeping their chickens, pigs, cattle and soil in traditional ways that attempt to imitate the way in
which nature naturally works on nutrient and energy cycling. These practices challenge the
industrial agricultural model that use a high input of resources to produce large amounts of a single

For example, the film presents the counterproductive result of feeding cows with contained brains
of infected cows that spread a deadly disease through the cattle known as the mad cow disease .
This type of intensive farming is characterized by its use of antibiotics and pesticides that cost
higher prices for farmers. Some farmers turn into the industrial farming not always by choice but for
companies that own or influence those intense farming practices. There is two agribusiness that has
a monopoly the market by selling agricultural technologies to farmers such as pesticides, GMO, and

The current official population of Gold Coast City in June 2015 was about 556.000. And as the
population grows, there is also more water needed as a water supplies. Beside the usage of
drinking water, we need water for a lot more reasons like laundry and cleaning, toilets, showers and
baths, faucets, irrigation and agriculture. If we don t want to run out of water, there is need of
more water sources building another dam in the Gold CoastHinterland or building a new
DesalinationPlant in the northern area of the Gold Coast (SEQ Water, 2016).
The aim of this report is to evaluate the proposals to increase water on the Gold Coast of these two
types of water storage. These would be building a new dam or building a new desalination plant to

Property Rights and the Economic System
The property occupies a central place in the economic system . It is associated with: 1) the
purpose and functioning of the economic system ; 2) economic way to connect employees with

exchange and consumption of the results of labor ; 4) The social structure of society , certain

Enhanced the importance of the problem of property in connection with the transition to a market
economy , as it is the foundation of the property becoming a new economic organization of society.
Therefore, economic reform must begin with the transformation of property relations.
In Soviet economic literature , including textbooks on political economy , property was considered
simplistic. Socialist property was presented as an economic phenomenon , which automatically
does all employees own all the means of production . In fact, the property a multifaceted socio
economic phenomenon , covering all aspects of the economic life of society.
Property is a complex and multi level category . At the first level , or on the surface phenomena

be found in abundance indeed, he had almost wept for joy! Out of all Odin s failings, she
preferred his greed to his cowardice. Who had melded him into this trembling specimen of
subservience? Another one of Arthur s misty eyed speeches on peace, unity and working together

from it. Other kingdoms still disputing land and titles with Camelot would be encouraged by it and

what chance would there be in future to attack? No use fretting about the future when trying to

Undocumented Criminals
Another prominent concern regarding undocumented immigrants in general is that of their criminal
intentions and activities. The notion that illegal immigrants only migrate to the United States to

how undocumented students are minuscule in number compared to legal students, undocumented

the American incarceration crisis, why should the undocumented be the only priority when the vast

Track And Field History
The History of Track and Field
Track and field, also known as athletics is one of the oldest sports in the history of man. It has
been proven throughout history that your economic status or culture don t keep you from
competing. You just have to train hard and give the people something to cheer for. Jesse Owens,
the first American in Olympic Track and Field history to win four gold medals in a single
Olympiad said it best, People come out to see you perform and you ve got to give them the best
you have within you. The lives of most men are patchwork quilts. Or at best one matching outfit
with a closet and a laundry bag full of incongruous accumulations. A lifetime of training for just 10
seconds. (Jesse Owens)
The athletic events included foot races, discus, javelin, long jump, wrestling, boxing. The first
record of a running event was a 600 foot long race. The first champion was a cook named
Koroibos. The race took place in a stadium near the city of Elis during the ancient Olympic Games
in the year of 776 B.C. The Olympic Games were men only events and lasted for eleven centuries
until a Theodosius I, a Christian emperor banned them in A.D. 394 because they conflicted with

The Most Effective Form of Media Essay
The Most Effective Form of Media There are many different types of media. The media is things
like: televisions, newspapers, magazines, radio, internet, cinema, phones and many more. Media
is important because it influences people to buy products. They are very affective and appeal to
many people. Adverts are things that show certain products and try to get you to buy them. The
purpose of adverts is to make you buy the products being advertised so they can make a profit.

Channels four, five and ITV do show adverts because they need the money from the
advertisement companies so their channel can keep afloat. Sky and cable completely rely on
television adverts because they need it for the funding. The advantages of advertising on the
television is you can have sound, movement, special affects and it is visual. The disadvantages
of advertising on the television is that the programme you are watching is split up, people
usually go for a snack when they come on and the small print can be difficult to read. I have
analysed a television advert and I have chosen, L OrГ©al , the shampoo and conditioner. The
target audience for this is probably women that like to look after their hair. The time the advert
appeared was between nine and ten at night, on ITV. It was on between Footballers Wives, and
this was a good time to put it on as the target audience may have been watching the television at
this time. The reason I have chosen this product is because it has a lot of hidden persuaders, and

Explain How Tetralogy Of Fallot Affects Oxygen And Blood...
First, I would tell Lisa and Dillon to watch for symptoms of blue color to the skin and shortness
of breath. If she shows blue tinged skin and shortness of breath then you should put the baby s
knees up to her chest and lay the baby on her side. This helps increase blood flow to her lungs.
Then you can call for paramedics. This is an emergency.
Secondly, I would explain how the Tetralogy of Fallot affects oxygenand blood flow in Mandy s
body. Tetralogy of Fallot is a defect that decreases pulmonary blood flow by four abnormities.
These include: pulmonary valve stenosis which involves the narrowing of the pulmonary valve.
This reduces blood flow to the lungs. Ventricular septal defect is a hole in the wall that separates
the two lower chambers,

Essay on The Ethical Values Held in Accounting, A...
Every profession faces a multiple of ethical challenges on a daily bases, this can be clearly
witnessed in the accounting profession. The main focus of this literature review is to discuss the
ethical values held in this profession and to also explore the ethical challenges that they face.
Professional ethicsfor accountants is all about making sure that accountants carry out their duties
to the highest standard possible and in a very professional manner. A code of ethics is designed
to make sure that ideal behaviour is being carried out and it must be enforceable and realistic.
From reading a variety of literature the core principles of the code of ethics are as follows:

It is the quality from which public trust derives and the benchmark against which a member must
ultimately test all decisions. Smith (2003, p47) From reading this Smith feels that anyone working
in the accounting profession must be trained and equipped to a high standard at implementing
moral judgement so that they can consider the well being of those that will face the consequences
of their actions.
Citron (2003) examined how and when these ethical values came about. It
..was developed at a time of mounting levels of criticism of the auditing profession.
Therefore it was a move that the UK Chartered Accountants Joint Ethics Committee felt that was
needed in order to make sure that ideal behaviour was being carried out and to also make sure that
all accountants were doing all their work to a high standard.
However like everything when the ethical values that are integrity, objectivity, professional
competence and due care, confidentiality and professional behaviour are complied with, it can still
leave accountants to be faced with many potential ethical dilemmas. Jackling, Cooper, Leung and
Dellaportas (2007) carried out an online survey in relation to ethical issues and put it forward to
sixty six different professional accounting bodies. They found out from their research that the

ROMEO AND JULIET: PERSUASIVE LITERARY ESSAY EVALUATION
ROUGH COPY #2
TOPIC: What is the impact of Shakespeare s use of sonnets in Romeo and Juliet?
Edits done in red by: Sarah Homsi
Some people believe that destiny is solely a figment of one s imagination; that humans truly
control their future based on the decisions they take. However, others believe that one s life is
already mapped out for them and that there is no stopping the path in life that God has planned of
them. One of the most common forms of conveying love, sonnets, regularly affect how one sees
the world. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare s utilization of
sonnets impacts upon the reader a feeling of destiny and fate for the love story of Romeo ... Show

In the very first sonnet of the play, the Prologue, there is a sense of fate created when it
specifically states the tragic events of the love story that will follow. In the second quatrain of
the sonnet, it states, a pair of star cross d lovers take their lives. (Prologue. 6). The prologue is
already providing the audience with the tragic ending of the play, something that is usually kept
a secret for the purpose of keeping the audience in suspense. The decision of including the
ending of the play in the sonnet gives the sense of the unavoidable destiny of Romeo and Juliet,
since the audience knows no matter what decisions Juliet and Romeo take, their fate will remain
the same. Subsequent to this, in the third quatrain of the sonnet, it says, the fearful passage of
their death mark d love. (Prologue. 9). No matter what decisions or choices Romeo and Juliet
make, the audience already knows their deadly fate: that a pair of lovers are doomed to death
because of their deep affection for each other. Shakespeare s method of introducing the play was to
use a sonnet in the Prologue, which thus created a sense of

The Giver Response Essay
The Giver Memories are forever (Lowry). People make new memories every day without even
realizing it. Some good some bad, that s just the way of life, but in The Giver nobody knows
what happened before them. People barley remember what their childhood was like, they don t
understand the importance of memory and that memories are forever. Aspects of life, rules, and
prosperities between our world and Jonas world are very different yet have some similarities.
Things that are crucial to the characters in The Giver are not as meaningful to the people in our
world. Color. It s all around us, we see it every day of our lives, everything has color, but the
people in Jonas community didn t know this. They had no clue what color was or that it even
existed. Their society was hue less, hopeless, and everything was the same until the new receiver
of memory changed that for everyone. In our world choice is a big part of our everyday lives we
make many choices a day, do I want this or that, green or blue, this shirt or that shirt? But in The
Giver choices were made for them, what they wear, how they act, what they say, what they eat, and
what they do for a living. Imagine all that stuff being chosen for you. Everyone would be dressed

401 Games As A Successful Business
401 Games has a wide variety of customers due to extensive amount of diverse games that are
offered in their store. When analyzing 401 Games as a whole, we decided on two determining
variables and one qualifying variable for the best target market. We chose buying behavior and
loyalty status as our two determining variables. For our qualifying variable, we selected location.
We broke buying behavior down into two categories, entertainment and competition. The
entertainment segment includes board games and card games. This would target both married
couples and families with children looking for fun, at home entertainment. The competition
segment would include individuals who compete in different gaming tournaments like Magic. 401

401 Games has very competitive prices for games compared to other retailers, which helps
customer s loyalty. Another big aspect of loyalty is word of mouth to recruit new customers,
which 401 Games has currently. A loyal customer, not only comes back and continues to buy from
the store, but is more likely to tell their friends too, thus keeping the business thriving. Next, we
selected entertainment over competition for buying behavior. Although 401 Games sells magic
and items for gaming competition, the best selling items are for entertainment. According to
Exhibit 1: Breakdown of Sales by Product Category, 401 Games top sellers include board games
with 30% of total sales and card game sets with a total of 20% of sales, which are both in the
entertainment category. They together make up $300,000 worth of revenue. Adults, couples, or
families with children will be the ones purchasing good board games or card games to play on
game night for entertainment, especially families with children because it is cheap family fun.
Lastly, we picked individuals who prefer in store shopping over online. At 401 Games, we hire
individuals and train them to be the experts on all games. We want customers to come in and look
at different games. Customers can ask our employees if they have questions, which is a benefit that
is not online. Customers also have the ability to come in

benefits: with floating currency it enables countries to revalue or devalue their currency in terms

Physics Of A Magritek Nmr Spectrometer
A Magritek NMR spectrometer along with MNOVA software was used to obtain the 1H NMR
spectrum by inserting an epi tube containing CDCl3 solvent with 60mg of dissolved 4 bromo N
4 (chlorophenyl)methylene] benzenamine from the purest sample obtained from the reaction
using molecular sieves into the spectrometer. Once the tube was inserted, proton protocol was
selected with parameters of CDCl3 as the solvent and it underwent a quickscan to acquire the
spectrum. When the scan was completed the spectrum was transferred to the MNOVA software
for process, label, integrate, and summarized the collected peaks. The IR spectrum was obtained
using a different machine since the Magritek NMR spectrometer used only produced 1H and
13C NMR spectrums from samples placed in an epi tube. The IR spectrum was recorded using a
Nicolet iS5 FT IR spectrometer and OMNIC software. A small about of sample was placed on
the ATR crystal and pressure was applied to allow for the clearest spectrum possible. Infrared light
was emitted by the pressure device to penetrate the sample and produced the necessary peaks to
identify the structure. First, the background without the crystal being in contact with any pressure
or sample was collected, but not saved to the spectrum; hence, only the spectrum of the sample
itself was displayed for the sample s spectrum. When the actual sample s spectrum was collected,
the peaks were found by the OMNIC software by choosing the button find peaks. The only IR

Initiation and Propagation in Cerebellar Purkinje Neurons
Baylee LaBree

Introduction Neural processing is discerned as dendritic input followed by electrical transmission
and axonal neurotransmitter output. In the axon of Purkinje cells, lie simple and complex spikes. It
is here where the initiation of whether action potentials within neurons initiate at the axon initial
segment (AIS) or at the first node of Ranvier within cerebellar Purkinje neurons (Palmer, Clark,

Another study looked at mice hippocampal pyramidal neurons. At higher temperatures the
hyperpolarized voltage sodium channels at the AIS contributed to increased excitability. This AIS
excitability contributed to increased heat related seizures, which offered that sodium channels play
a role in febrile seizures (Wimmer, Reid, Mitchell, Richards, Scaf, Leaw, Petrou, 2010). Another
mice oriented study focused on ion channel regulation in the axon initial segment. This study found
that dopaminergic signaling can control neuronal output through calcium channels (Bender, Ford,
Trussell, 2010).
Materials and Methods To test the hypothesis that all axon potentials initiate in the AIS, voltage
sensitive dye was injected to obtain whole cell somatic recordings. Transgenic mice that expressed
green fluorescent protein or enhanced green fluorescent protein were used for the purpose of
neuron selection. Parasagittal slices of the cerebellar were examined with a confocal imaging
system to ensure absolute neuron morphology. Selected neurons were loaded with voltage
sensitive dye through a glass patch electrode, and whole cell recordings were taken under IR DIC
video microscopy. The neuron was stained via glass patch in room temperature for 20 50 minutes to
ensure optimum uptake into the cell, after staining the selected neuron was incubated at room

Popular Culture
What is popular (low) culture? Popular culture is a symbolic expression allegedly aligned with the
questionable tastes of the masses, who enjoy commercial junk circulated by the mass media, such
as soap operas, rock music, talk radio, comic books, and monster truck pulls (Campbell, 18). When
looking at the high low hierarchy it often determines the way people view cultureas a whole today,
saying high cultureis good taste and low cultureis questionable taste. Many audiences take for

This blurs the distinctions between fact and fiction, and of art and commerce. As exemplified by
Campbell, Although endurance does not necessarily denote quality, in the view of many critics
better forms of culture have more staying power (23). Democratic reasoning causes the popular
media to inhibit social audiences by promising that products will work for them. TV advertising
and daytime talk shows are two examples of undermining democratic reasoning. A lot of different
audiences are being seduced by the promise of products inhibiting social progress by transforming
them into social hypnotism. Multinational corporations are know from making large profits from

commercials are known for seductive advertising showing toned, polished bodies on professional

they have lost not only the will to challenge social inequalities but also their discriminating taste

Freshly fallen ash particles can have acid coatings which may cause irritation to the lungs and
eyes. This acid coating is rapidly removed by rain, which may then pollute local water supplies.
Acidic ash can also damage vegetation, leading to crop failure. People can be more fearful of
the health hazards of volcanic ash and gases than of the risk of dying from more major hazards,
such as pyroclastic flows. However, ashfalls can affect very wide areas around volcanoes and
may cause major disruption to normal living.Medical services can expect an increase in the
number of patients with respiratory and eye symptoms during and after an ashfall event. Effects
of ash on health may be divided into several categories: respiratory effects, eye symptoms, and
skin irritation. In some eruptions, ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the
lungs. With high exposure, even healthy individuals will experience chest discomfort with
increased coughing and irritation. In rare circumstances, long term exposure to fine volcanic ash

short duration (days to weeks), and studies suggest that the recommended exposure limits (similar
in most countries) can be exceeded for short periods of time for the general population. People
suffering from asthma or other lung problems such as bronchitis and emphysema, and severe heart

volcanic ash depends on a number of factors. These include the concentration of particles in the air,
the proportion of fine particles in the ash, the frequency and duration of exposure, the

browsing this line, individuals find they can choose from a wide range of pieces, covering

Individuals, in the past, were often limited in regards to what they wore, with many companies
requiring the donning of garments that sported the company logo. Although products were
offered that will fulfill this requirement, they tended to be of low quality. Port Authority wanted
to change this and did so with great success. It didn t take long for the company to take off, and
today Port Authority clothing may be found in the workplace, at resorts, on golf courses and
everywhere a person goes. The clothes are so amazing, people want to wear them as opposed to
being required to do so, and many find the selection to be adequate for them to wear these clothes

A Trip To Alaska Personal Narrative
Chris here. I m sorry for leaving you there with dad and mom. I have had a great time getting my
way to Alaska. I have met some really outstanding people. As I was camping along the badlands
abutting the Salton Sea, not so far from a gathering of aging hippies, nudists, and snowbirds set
up in an area they call Oh My God Hot Springs. While I was hitchhiking into town for food and
water, I met Ronald Franz, a retired army veteran who once had a drinking problem. Of course he
tried to persuade me to leave the encampment, he said it was a bad influence. He took me to San
Diego, where I lived for a little while before leaving to Seattle. I ended up back in California so I
decided to call Ron. He bought me a meal at a local steak house, I stayed

Environmental Effects Of A Shopping Mall
Tearing up the park and replacing with a shopping to fulfill the gluttonous greed of our capitalist
nation, will not only harm the ecosystem and cost millions of tax paying dollars, but severely harm
the children physically and mentally.
A shopping mall is a large investment to make, referring to the ecosystem and money. Constructing
a pollutant in our town will aggravate the ecosystem. Cutting down trees will cause an oxygen
deficiency as well as harm any species and ecosystems living there. The process of building a mall
emits air pollution into the atmosphere, which will also occur when the mall is finished. Moving
on, mall have not been making business of late and are shutting down.
Time calculates By 2022, analysts estimate that 1 out of every 4 malls in the U.S. could be out of
business (Time). Manufacturing a mall now is not the best idea economically. In addition, Fixr
makes us aware that malls run at an average of $24.9 million to complete (Fixr). Paying 24.9
million dollars to build soon to close mall that will hurt the ecosystem is a poor judgment call.
Furthermore, in our current society, children are being limited to the access to the clean outside
world. They choose to remain inside on the computer, rather than having a childhood playing with
friends outside and are suffering physically. With fast food industries taking over, children have no
way to work off the pounds of grease and fat they consume. According to the American Heart
Association, ...

The Impact Of Social Technology On The Workplace
Social Technology in the Workplace
The exploding growth of social technologies has drastically altered the way people communicate.
As a result, the utilization of social technologies to move a business forward has become
widespread. Software tools such as blogs and wikis and social network platforms like Facebook and
Twitter and other communication technologies are helping to advance businesses. These new
technologies improve the way that tacit and explicit knowledge is recognized, categorized and
distributed throughout a firm. Knowledge in organizations is classified into two types, tacit and
explicit. Knowing the differences between explicit and tacit knowledge is key to understanding
how knowledge is shared. Explicit knowledge is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowledge sharing is of vital importance for the success of organizations. So in order to
successfully share both types of knowledge, tacit knowledge must be articulated. With the
advantage of Web 2.0technologies, organizations are able to achieve this objective.
The use of Web 2.0 technologies in organizations has introduced innovative ways of
collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing. The result of which is a more productive
and engaged workforce. The term Web 2.0 is controversial, but plainly used to describe a new
wave of Internet technologies that allows users to do more than just access information online.
(Gardner, n.d.) Blogs, wikis and social media technologies are examples of the Web 2.0
applications that businesses can use. These social technologies deliver benefits by multiplying the
opportunities for collaboration and by allowing knowledge to spread more effectively. (Bughin,
Chui, Miller, 2009) Lets take a look at these new tools used for collaboration and knowledge portals
in organizations and the benefits they create. The introduction of Web 2.0 has given companies the
opportunity to interact and exchange ideas within the company and also externally with customers.
Blogs have become a social media tool for organizations that promotes internal collaboration
between employees as well as developing

An Analysis of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Chronicles of Narnia are veritably the most popular writings of C.S. Lewis. They are known as
children s fantasy literature, and have found favor in older students and adults alike, even many
Christian theologians enjoy these stories from Lewis; for there are many spiritual truths that one
can gleam from them, if familiar with the Bible. However, having said this, it is noteworthy to say
that Lewis did not scribe these Chronicles for allegorical didactics of the Christian faith, but wrote
them in such a well knit fashion that young readers might understand Christian doctrine through
captivating fantasy and thus gain an appreciation for it. With this in mind, and in the interest of this
assignment, the purpose of this paper is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This temptation of power is very like the story of Jesus being tempted by Satan in the desert.
Satan, like the Witch, tempts Jesus with power in exchange for service (Matt 4:8 9). In addition
to yielding to these various temptations, Edmund also agrees not to reveal his knowledge of the
Witch to his siblings and consequentially ends up lying to them about his discovery of Narnia. By
doing this, Edmund fulfills the antithesis of New Testament virtues of a good Christian in face
of temptation. Lewis artfully interlaces these Biblical themes of temptation into the character of
Edmund. However, Edmund s character is allegorical to the Biblical character of Judas, the
betrayer. Edmund betrays his siblings and the Beavers by going to seek the White Witch. All he
could think about were his earthly desires and wants Turkish Delight, and the thought of being a
prince. Comparing a mere child to Judas, however, is a very serious allegory for a children s
novel. So, Lewis creates the idea of the Witch giving Edmund enchanted Turkish Delight. By
making Edmund s cravings for Turkish Delight the fault of the Witch and not his own, Lewis
alleviates some of the force of Edmund s offense. Once again, taking biblical imagery and
softening it to appeal to a young audience; and in the end of course, Edmund is

Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr s I Have A Dream Speech
Awakening national consciousness and bringing attention to the Civil Rights Movement, Martin
Luther King Jr s I Have A Dream speech was broadcasted across the nation and heard by millions
of Americans on August 28, 1963. Throughout the decades, many have promoted the importance of
racial equality in America. Leaders such as William J. Clinton, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush
have contributed to modern social movements by, doing as Dr. King himself, giving speeches to
varying audiences concerning the issue of racial inequality. Above all, Martin Luther King Jr
made the strongest argument advocating racial equality in America because his speech remains
well organized and formatted, incorporates a variety of allusions, and emcompasses an engaging
use of figurative language. To begin with, Martin Luther King Jr made the most powerful
argument regarding racial equality because his speech remains well organized and formatted
from its beginning to its end. King organizes his speech in a way that makes it easier for his
audience to follow along and have lasting thoughts of his words. The first half of I Have A
Dream describes the American ordeal of racial injustice. During the second half of his speech,
Martin Luther King Jr paints a picture of America s future, a racial harmony. As he stated, I have
a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former
slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood (King,

Speech On Yosemite National Park
Good morning! Today we will be going to Yosemite National Park. I hope you are prepared...
Eddie, the tourist guide, announced a little too enthusiastically for an early morning after my
family and I entered the bus. Taking a seat by the window, I tried drowning him out with my
music, and then proceeded to sigh when I could still clearly hear him through my headphones. I
was annoyed, but not because I did want to go to Yosemite; I just did not want spend time with
the group of loud and obnoxious tourists on the bus. When my family and I first agreed to go on
a tour of Yosemite, I was excited because I had never been there and I had heard many positive
reviews about its scenery. That day, however, it was hot, I was worried about starting college soon,
and all I wanted was to sleep comfortably without a Chinese tourist behind me complaining about
the American government. Great, I thought sarcastically to myself, what a fun trip. When we
reached Yosemite, however, my attitude completely changed. Although I was still with the group of
loud tourists, I was able to mentally escape from them and my worries for the short duration in
Yosemite. The immense cliffs, everlasting sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, and abundant wildlife
were mesmerizing and for the first time in a while, I felt humble and small, as if I were just a tiny
ant in an incredibly huge world. We, as humans, often forget our relationship with Mother Nature,
but this trip to Yosemite had reminded me of this

Al Biruni s India
In the first few excerpts from Al Biruni s India an informative text on his observation of Indian life
Al Biruni sets up the stage for his readers to develop a mindset necessary to understand his
description of Indian culture, philosophy, language, etc. In this paper, I will establish that Al Biruni
s experience, and hence his explanation of Indiashould have been considerably impacted by his
sociopolitical standing. At the same time, I will make the case that despite of his keen efforts to
limit his text to informative purposes, he fails to prevent his out group bias from appearing in his
writing.
It is not a revelation that the first chapter is focused on the identification of problems that the
Muslims and other foreigners have been facing in understanding the Indian culture. However, in
addition to defining the specific problems such as pitfalls in language and the community s
resistance against foreigners, Al Biruni also elaborates on his personal encounter and approach to
those problems. In his language analysis, for instance, he describes the physical difficulty in
pronouncing and understanding some of the Sanskrit words as our tongue and uvula could scarcely
pronounce them and in order to fix the pronunciation we must change our orthographical points and
signs. From this effort to establish a personalized connection to the reader s native language and
accent, it can be inferred that he is trying to provide a foundational reference to the readers, to
eventually ease their intrusion into the Hindu mindset.
One of the surface takeaways of the first few passages is the straightforward recognition of the
audience i.e. other Muslims, who will be depending on this book for their first exposure to Indian
subcontinent. It is important to note that the author does not use the word Indian to address the
natives of Indian subcontinent; rather addresses them as Hindus throughout the piece. He also
categorizes the barriers he explained as those separating Muslims and Hindus and not Indians from
foreigners. This excludes people living in the Indian subcontinent practicing any religion other than
Hinduism (like Buddhism) from Al Biruni s analysis, and creates religiously powered in group and

Compare And Contrast The Mobilisation Of Fats And...
The percentage of energy supplied for the body s energy needs by fats and carbohydrates varies at
0 minutes, 5 minutes and after 45 minutes of a marathon. The biochemical events that occur at
these time points will be evaluated in terms of the mobilisation of fats and carbohydrates, the
pathways each takes to produce energyand their yield in producing Adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
Fats and carbohydrates differ in their structure, energy yield and the way they are stored in the
body. For these reasons, they are not used equally by the body; and one predominates over the
other at different times in a marathon. The structure of fats consist of one glycerol molecule bound
to three fatty acid chains via ester bonds, and are termed triglycerides. ... Show more content on

Glucagon acts on the liver and muscles to initiate glycogenolysis. Glycogen phosphorylase
phosphorylates a terminal glucose molecule to form glucose 1 phosphate (G1P) and depletes ATP
to ADP, and is exergonic. Phosphoglucomutase converts G1P to glucose 6 phosphate (G6P). In
muscles G6P would enter the glycolytic pathway, however the liver must release glucose into the
blood. G6P enters the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells and is converted to glucose by glucose 6
phosphatase, after which it is released into the blood for adsorption by other cells. The glycolytic
pathway consists of 10 steps divided into 2 phases: preparatory and pay off. Step 1 is the
phosphorylation (ATP to ADP) of glucose to G6P by hexokinase and Mg2+ as a co factor, О”G
Лљ= 16.7 KJ/mol (exothermic). In step 2 G6P is converted to fructose 6 phosphate by
phosphohexose isomerase and Mg2+, the ration is endergonic (О”G Лљ=1.7KJ/mol). Fructose 1,6
biphosphate is produced from the phosphorylation of fructose 6 phosphate by phosphofructokinase
1 and Mg2+ in step 3. This reaction is exergonic due to ATP hydrolysis (О”G Л
љ=14.2KJ/mol) and
is irreversible. In step 4 fructose 1,6 biphosphate is cleaved by aldolase to form dihydroxyacetone
phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate in an endergonic reaction (О”G Лљ=23.8KJ/mol). In
step 5 dihydroxyacetone phosphate is converted to glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate by triose

Illegal Immigration And Immigrants
Should illegal immigrants be allowed to become U.S. citizens? Should they be deported and not
be allowed to pursue a better way of life in America? Immigrants did want, in fact, to become
Americans in every sense of the word, not just in terms of the ability to achieve a measure of
economic prosperity. Immigrants and refugees are entrepreneurs, job creators, taxpayers, and
consumers. According to Center for American Progress They add trillions of dollars to the U.S.
gross domestic product, or GDP, and their economic importance will only increase in the coming
decades as America s largest generation. The goal of this research paper is to construct a strong
case that illegal immigration/deportation should be dealt in a different manner, show how America
benefits from this and is best addressed in terms of multiculturalism, poverty/inequality, and cultural
relativism.
From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original
inhabitants, who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America thousands of years
ago. By the 1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing
settlements in what would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first
permanent settlement in present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of
America s first settlers came in search of freedom to practice their faith. In 1620, a group of
roughly 100 people later known as the Pilgrims fled

The Problems of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted
to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or
willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using
drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex
disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically
change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and
addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug
addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in
productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs
exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for
tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of
destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family
breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are
not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally
voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and
ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. Drug s

Bunch Vs Kant
In the history of philosophers there has been a major span of views and with that a large amount of
agreements and disagreements. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in
specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great
example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch.
First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who
believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic
view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of
the action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Kant ... Show more content on

Kant believes that the someone Reason we shouldn t do bad is because it s irrational. To Kant
being rational is the very thing that makes us human. Rational thought is the one thing that
separates us from animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being
irrational would be going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act
irrationally in Kant s eyes would be to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as
humans our duty to ourselves and the rest of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We
can achieve that by acting in a way that involves what Kant considers universal law, which
would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted in the same fashion the world would
be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting in line example, that if everyone
cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you would end up just fighting
your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself to live there.
Similarly, David Hume Believe we cannot be 100% positive about cause and effect relationships.
These relationships that our mind makes is an inherent trait of humans but Hume believes we can
never truly know if something is the exact effect to a caused event. Just because two events occur
one after the other our minds try to connect the two, but this process is ultimately just assuming that
one caused the other. In addition, because of this we can never definitively say one thing cause the

  • 2. The Role of Intra-party Opposition in National Liberation... The Role of Intra party Opposition in National Liberation Movements By and large, in the latter half of the twentieth century a regime change has meant the victory of a leftist national liberation movement over an oppressive power; whether the new regime makes good on its stated purpose of delivering justice to its people has not evidenced such a standard pattern, however. While liberation movements such as the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa were able successfully to convert their role as revolutionary freedom fighters into democratic participation in the state (Connell, 9), movements such as Castro s Cuban Revolution, while accomplishing regime change, failed to deliver a successful state. This paper suggests that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Radical Islamic Palestinian nationalist groups, the most prominent of which is Hamas, adamantly resist any concessions to the state of Israel and maintain that the PA should not be negotiating with the Israeli government. While there is little question that Hamas and similar organizations have had both the intent and the effect of erecting impediments on the road to a peace in the Middle East, this paper aims to dispel the notion that Palestinian opposition groups have completely derailed the peace process. Instead, I will argue that the presence of such vehement dissent is a necessary part to a lasting peace accord and to a stable two state solution, as this intra party opposition is often the most difficult hurdle to surmount for a national liberation movement that is attempting to rise to state power. To be clear, I argue that a critical first step to running a peaceful democratic state, before territory or infrastructure, is to pacify radical parties in a non dictatorial fashion; a process by which a new political regime proves itself capable of state governance by tying together the moderate with the extreme. I further assert that the notion is incorrect that because the PA is born out of the PLO, an organization that employed guerrilla tactics to spoil peace efforts, the new Authority is necessarily an untrustworthy body. I will argue that in the majority of cases, as exemplified by South Africa, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jerks Is An Original Dark Comedy HYPNIC JERKS is an original dark comedy/horror script that features a very likable protagonist with a very intriguing sleep disorder. The idea of hypnic jerks is very refreshing as a flaw and it s a disorder not often talked about. It s nice to see it in the script. The tone combines dark comedy with horror elements. The script explores themes about life choices and destiny. The script offers a couple of nice twists. The highlight is the main character of Ray. He s a charming, yet troubled man, but one can t help but like him and his dog, Bonham. Equally likable and intriguing is Ambrosia. As much as one enjoys the characters, the script would benefit from more development in the areas of structure and plot. The main concern about the presentation is the lack of a well identifiable goal for Ray. The plotline isn t entirely clear. Ray transforms himself into a vampire, which appears to be motivated by the idea of the Vampire Festival, but that doesn t feel like a strong enough motivation. In addition, the link between Ray transforming into a vampire and his sleep disorder isn t entirely well connected. He s trying to write, but this too, unfortunately never feels like Ray s true, actionable goal. Now, if Ray were trying to write about vampires and felt he needed to live his life like a vampire to help him write to make the world more believable, this would connect his behavior to his objective. In addition, there s a subplot about women being stalked and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Environmental Impacts Of Hurricane Sandy When Hurricanes Attack Colby Tibbitts Natural Disasters 02/25/16 During the last few months of 2012, the world was in shock when Hurricane Sandy formed and disrupted the lives of many people. Hurricane Sandy began on October 22 as a tropical storm in the Caribbean, then a couple days later developed into a hurricane in the Jamaican area. On October 29, Hurricane Sandy made its way into New Jersey as a category 2 storm, but eventually started effecting the northeastern region of The United States. States like Florida, Maine, and New York were greatly affected. Hurricane Sandy was recorded as the largest Atlantic hurricane. The wind diameter was up 1100 miles. (Trento and Allen, 2014). The way Hurricane Sandy formed was a very rare climate event, according to Yuval Neria and James M. Shultz. Sandy merged with a polar jet stream and formed a rare hybrid of a post tropical cyclone and winter storm (Neria and Shultz, 2012). Hurricane Sandy was breaking all kind of records along the coast. When making landfall, Sandy s minimum central pressure dropped 946mb, which was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to John Manuel, Sandy was accountable for an estimate of 234 deaths in 8 countries. The almost half the deaths, around 97, were reported around the New York metropolitan area. During the storm, buses and power were down, which made it almost impossible to continue going on after Sandy hit. The power was out for around 8.5 million days and even weeks after Sandy hit. Unfortunately, with the damage that Sandy has done on top of the loss of power, technology was failing. Not only were televisions and phones down, but heating systems and life support in hospitals were failing also. (Manuel, 2013). Sandy caused about an estimate of 346,000 homes damaged and cost about $65 billion in damages. In NYC alone, the cost was $19 billion and in New Jersey cost as around $30 billion in damages (Trento and Allen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Role Of Discipline In The Uniformed Public Service Need for and role of discipline in the uniformed public service Discipline is the quality of being able to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying particular rules or standards. However, it can be interpreted in an alternative way; if you refer to an activity or situation as a discipline, you mean that, in order to be successful in it, you need to behave in a strictly controlled way and obey particular rules or standards. Punishment can be used to correct disobedience in some circumstances. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With rules and regulations put in place, it allows individuals to understand what is acceptable and what cannot be justified. For example, a rule has been strictly put into place stating that every public service worker is forbidden from consuming any amount of alcohol whilst on duty or before shift. This can be appropriately justified due to any uniformed public service worker under the influence of alcohol having a disorientated mind set because of alcohol having negative effects and affecting different aspects on an individual s physical and mental wellbeing. In addition, an alternative justification would be regarding the fact that those within the public service are required to serve and protect public citizens, as well as enforce laws. For example, if a police officer was caught in the action of drunk driving and pulled over a member of the public for the same offense, this would contradict the police officers actions and he will not be able to fully justify himself as to why he had committed those actions. Society is maintained and ordered with rules and regulations put into place, which are enforced by those within the uniformed public services. With laws that prove actions such as murder are illegal; all those who work within the uniformed public service attempt to prevent murder occurring in society and create a safer environment, and aiming to detain those who do go against the law ensuring they serve a correct sentence ... • 6. Bipolar And Bipolar Disorder ( Bipolar ) Bipolar robs you of that which is you. It can take from you the very core of your being and replace it with something that is completely opposite of who and what you truly are (A. Reyan 2015). Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that alters a person s life, they can never go back to who they were before. It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder (everydayhealth.com 2015). Bipolar disorder is broken down into two types; bipolar I and bipolar II disorder. Bipolar I disorder must contain one manic episode in a person s life. Whereas Bipolar II disorder requires one hypomanic episode to occur. The prevalence of Bipolar disorder is around 4% within the United States, with only 1.0% of that being Bipolar I disorder. Not a lot of research has been done, to determine which race is more prevalent for this disorder (NIMH.org 2015). People of lower socioeconomic status have been linked to have higher rates of Bipolar I disorder. Bipolar I disorder is more common among women than men, with a ratio of ~3:2 (CDC.org 2015). Bipolar I disorder typically develops in a person s late teen or early adulthood with an average onset age of 25 years old. Bipolar I disorder is defined as manic depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day to day tasks (NIMH.org 2015). • 8. The Effects Of Concussions On Athletes And Concussions Lastly, having multiple concussions produce long term effects on athletes. This was proven by a study performed that compared athletes with a history of concussions to athletes with no concussion history using a concussion test known as: Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT). This is a computerized test that measures memory capabilities to determine if an athlete has a concussion. It was taken by the athletes prior to their season to find a baseline level. This baseline would then be used to determine if someone has a concussion by comparing it to a post concussion result of the ImPACT. Every athlete in this study was given the ImPACT test within five days of sustaining a concussion. The results from this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These lawsuits represented over 2,000 former players claiming that the NFL didn t teach them the dangers of a concussion. On August 29, 2013, over a year after the lawsuits were filed, there was an agreement between the NFL and the players; the NFL agreed to pay $765 million to pay for medical examinations, compensation for the concussed athletes, and research towards concussions. Just as the NFL thought the lawsuits were over, on January 14, 2014, the agreement was declined by a federal judge because the judge believed that $765 million was not enough money ( NFL Concussion ). These lawsuits over the issue of concussions prove that the athletes have experienced a multitude of medical issues that resulted from multiple concussions. These former athletes are working hard to ensure that young athletes do not have to suffer like they do. The issue of multiple concussions is finally becoming recognized by major sports. The awareness has led to a variety of interventions to help protect athletes. There have been two recent interventions concerning football helmets. First off, Riddell, a company that produces football helmets, has released a new helmet that is supposed to best prevent concussions. This helmet is known as the Revolution Speed. Every individual struggle with self acceptance at some point in their life, furthermore, every individual chooses to exemplify their struggle to accept themselves in different methods. In the short story Boys and Girls Alice Munro focuses on the narration of a girl, in which girls are underappreciated in the society. The protagonistin the story cannot accept who she is, and it makes it harder for her as other individuals do not accept who she wishes to be. The author demonstrates this through the character s external motivations. As the story is written in third person limited readers understand the girls personal thoughts and how she is internally conflicted about who she is. She feels underappreciated for the work that she provides which influences her to be disobedient to others around her. Alice Munroe s short storyBoys and Girls demonstrates to readers that individuals struggle for self acceptance through the expression of their external and internal motivations. Because of their motivations, individuals feel rebellious against their self conscience. Many individuals feel influenced from their relatives or friends to act and be a certain way to be accepted in their society, this causes them to react and respond in a certain way. In the short story Boys and Girls , the protagonist struggles to gain self acceptance because of other people around her influencing the ways in which she should live. • 10. Effective Advocates For Small Business Utilization Essay To be effective advocates for small business utilization in DoD acquisitions, Small Business Professionals (SBPs) need to participate early in the acquisition process and throughout it, and become trusted members of the team. To accomplish this, SBPs must be knowledgeable of pre and post award support they can provide to the acquisition team, as well as how small businesses can help DoD meet its procurement requirements. SBPs have the greatest influence during the pre solicitation phase of the process. The social initiative is to be recognized as trusted advisors where they understand the customer s requirements and are knowledgeable of small businessprograms. As an acquisition sustainability strategy determines, SBPs should provide information on small businesses and how they might meet the requirements. Reciprocity relates to the idea that people like to return favors and pay back debts, which can lead to feeling obliged to repay an offer in some way to address discomfort with feeling indebted to someone else. Commitment is associated with the desire to follow through on something we ve expressed interest in previously. Social proof is linked to the idea that if others are doing something we re more likely to do it as well, particularly when feeling uncertain. Physics Of A Magritek Nmr Spectrometer A Magritek NMR spectrometer along with MNOVA software was used to obtain the 1H NMR spectrum by inserting an epi tube containing CDCl3 solvent with 60mg of dissolved 4 bromo N 4 (chlorophenyl)methylene] benzenamine from the purest sample obtained from the reaction using molecular sieves into the spectrometer. Once the tube was inserted, proton protocol was selected with parameters of CDCl3 as the solvent and it underwent a quickscan to acquire the spectrum. When the scan was completed the spectrum was transferred to the MNOVA software for process, label, integrate, and summarized the collected peaks. The IR spectrum was obtained using a different machine since the Magritek NMR spectrometer used only produced 1H and 13C NMR spectrums from samples placed in an epi tube. The IR spectrum was recorded using a Nicolet iS5 FT IR spectrometer and OMNIC software. A small about of sample was placed on the ATR crystal and pressure was applied to allow for the clearest spectrum possible. Infrared light was emitted by the pressure device to penetrate the sample and produced the necessary peaks to identify the structure. First, the background without the crystal being in contact with any pressure or sample was collected, but not saved to the spectrum; hence, only the spectrum of the sample itself was displayed for the sample s spectrum. When the actual sample s spectrum was collected, the peaks were found by the OMNIC software by choosing the button find peaks. The only IR spectrum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another mice oriented study focused on ion channel regulation in the axon initial segment. Al Biruni s India In the first few excerpts from Al Biruni s India an informative text on his observation of Indian life Al Biruni sets up the stage for his readers to develop a mindset necessary to understand his description of Indian culture, philosophy, language, etc. In this paper, I will establish that Al Biruni s experience, and hence his explanation of Indiashould have been considerably impacted by his sociopolitical standing. At the same time, I will make the case that despite of his keen efforts to limit his text to informative purposes, he fails to prevent his out group bias from appearing in his writing. It is not a revelation that the first chapter is focused on the identification of problems that the Muslims and other foreigners have been facing in understanding the Indian culture. However, in addition to defining the specific problems such as pitfalls in language and the community s resistance against foreigners, Al Biruni also elaborates on his personal encounter and approach to those problems. In his language analysis, for instance, he describes the physical difficulty in pronouncing and understanding some of the Sanskrit words as our tongue and uvula could scarcely pronounce them and in order to fix the pronunciation we must change our orthographical points and signs. From this effort to establish a personalized connection to the reader s native language and accent, it can be inferred that he is trying to provide a foundational reference to the readers, to eventually ease their intrusion into the Hindu mindset. One of the surface takeaways of the first few passages is the straightforward recognition of the audience i.e. other Muslims, who will be depending on this book for their first exposure to Indian subcontinent. It is important to note that the author does not use the word Indian to address the natives of Indian subcontinent; rather addresses them as Hindus throughout the piece. He also categorizes the barriers he explained as those separating Muslims and Hindus and not Indians from foreigners. This excludes people living in the Indian subcontinent practicing any religion other than Hinduism (like Buddhism) from Al Biruni s analysis, and creates religiously powered in group and ... G6P enters the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells and is converted to glucose by glucose 6 phosphatase, after which it is released into the blood for adsorption by other cells. By the 1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America s first settlers came in search of freedom to practice their faith. In 1620, a group of roughly 100 people later known as the Pilgrims fled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Problems of Drug Addiction Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. • 55. Bunch Vs Kant In the history of philosophers there has been a major span of views and with that a large amount of agreements and disagreements. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch. First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of the action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Kant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant believes that the someone Reason we shouldn t do bad is because it s irrational. To Kant being rational is the very thing that makes us human. Rational thought is the one thing that separates us from animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being irrational would be going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act irrationally in Kant s eyes would be to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as humans our duty to ourselves and the rest of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We can achieve that by acting in a way that involves what Kant considers universal law, which would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted in the same fashion the world would be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting in line example, that if everyone cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you would end up just fighting your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself to live there. Similarly, David Hume Believe we cannot be 100% positive about cause and effect relationships. These relationships that our mind makes is an inherent trait of humans but Hume believes we can never truly know if something is the exact effect to a caused event. Just because two events occur one after the other our minds try to connect the two, but this process is ultimately just assuming that one caused the other. In addition, because of this we can never definitively say one thing cause the other to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
