Essay On Voting
Crafting an essay on the subject of voting presents a multifaceted challenge that extends beyond
the mere act of putting words on paper. The intricacies of this topic demand a nuanced approach,
requiring the writer to navigate through a complex web of historical, sociopolitical, and ethical
considerations. Addressing the significance of voting involves delving into the foundations of
democracy, exploring the evolution of voting rights, and dissecting the implications of electoral
systems.
Moreover, the difficulty lies not only in the need for comprehensive research but also in the
delicate balance required to present a well-rounded argument. One must carefully weigh the
perspectives of various stakeholders, considering the diverse opinions on voting accessibility,
voter suppression, and the impact of demographic shifts on electoral outcomes. Crafting a
coherent narrative that captures the essence of the democratic process while acknowledging its
challenges demands a keen analytical mind and a skillful command of language.
Furthermore, the challenge intensifies when attempting to address the contemporary issues
surrounding voting, such as the role of technology in elections, the rise of misinformation, and
the ongoing efforts to ensure inclusivity in the electoral process. Navigating these complex and
dynamic facets requires not only a strong understanding of the subject matter but also an ability
to synthesize information and present it in a manner that engages and enlightens the reader.
In conclusion, writing an essay on voting is a formidable task that demands a blend of research
prowess, critical thinking skills, and eloquent expression. It requires the writer to traverse the
historical landscape of democracy, grapple with the current challenges facing voting systems,
and envision the future trajectory of electoral processes. However, for those seeking assistance in
tackling such intricate topics or any other writing challenges, there are resources available.

Strontium is a chemical element with symbol Sr and atomic number (protons in
nucleus) 38 and atomic weight 88.1 It is a soft, silver gray metal, and has physical
and chemical properties like to Calcium and Barium. It is available as four stable
isotopes ubiquitously (Isotopes are differ in forms of an by number of protons in
nucleus but possess a variable number of neutrons.) Strontium88 is the most
dominant among other forms, comprising 83% of natural strontium, where in
additional three stable isotopes and their relative abundance are strontium 84
(0.6%), strontium 86 (9.9%), and strontium 87 (7.0%). Strontium is available
ubiquitous vitally as as celestite (SrSO4) and strontianite (SrCO3), and it
comprises about 0.025% of the earth s crust. There are 16 major radioactive
isotopes of strontium, but only strontium 90 has a half life sufficiently long (29
years). In comparison with half lives of remaining strontium radionuclides are fewer
than 65 days. Strontium 90 decays to yttrium 90 by decaying a beta particle, and
yttrium 90 decays by decaying a energetic beta particle with a half life of 64 hours to
zirconium 90. The key health concerns for strontium 90 are associated to the
energetic beta particle from yttrium 90.2
Strontium 90 is a pure ОІ emitter, produced in nuclear п¬Ѓssion of (235U and 239Pu

The disappointment of not getting into Curtis caused her to give up music for a

to take a stage name. She chose Nina an affectionate term that an ex boyfriend used
to call her meaning girl in Spanish and Simone after Simone Signoret a French actor,
because she though it sounded sophisticated. With her new stage name, she got a
job in a small bar and grill off the boardwalk. At first she just played the piano, but
her boss told her that she had to sing or she could not keep the job. Nina began to
put her own style a mixture from her background of classical and gospel to popular
songs. This led to an unexpected career as a jazz entertainer putting aside her dreams
of being a classical pianist.
During the 1960 s, Nina got involved with the current events the civil rights fight as

How Does Carol Ann Duffy Show Eurydice
Carol Ann Duffy s Eurydice is a rewrite of Ovid s Orpheus and Eurydice in which the
focus shifts over to Eurydice, where readers get a different perspective of the much
older story, with Eurydice having more of a say and achieving her goals. Ovid s
poem shows Eurydice as a damsel in distress who needs to be saved. Duffy s rewrite
shows Eurydice being an independent womanwho does not want to be a muse. After
being silent for so long, Eurydice finally has a voice to give her thoughts on Orpheus.
Duffy s rewrite gives insight to what Eurydice thinks of Orpheus s attempts to get
her back; the rewrite also explores the role of men and women in society. In Ovid s
poem, Orpheus attempts to retrieve Eurydice from the underworld reveal his
selfishness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orpheus rarely calls Eurydice by her own name, I seek my wife: she stepped upon
a viper/ a snake that shot his venom into her/ young body, robbing her of years of
life (Ovid 326). Orpheus did not refer to his wife by any other name, which can
infer that he sees her more as a possession than as a human being. This goes back to
how women were treated throughout history, they were property or an object
rather than a person. To further this She, too, will yet be yours when she has lived
/ in full the course of her allotted years (Ovid 326). Orpheus referred to Eurydice as
an object that will belong to the god, after she has lived her full life. Orpheus also
decides that he is the man who is going to save his beloved Eurydice, The Thracian
poet took her hand: he led/ his wife away but heard the gods command (Ovid 327).
Orpheus put himself in charge of bringing his wife back from death, which is
similar to what is seen in fairy tales; a man is going to save a girl from death,
punishment, etc. This is a very traditional view of how women should be treated, and
Duffy s rewrite does a good job illustrating the changes that have taken place from the
time of Orpheus until the time Duffy wrote this
Future Visions of America in Looking Backward by

Published in 1888 Looking Backward depicts a future vision of America. Utopian
Boston of the year 2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism.
Through the medium of romantic novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of
socialism into the nineteenth century American society. Written at a period when
economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution of wealth
, Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems.
From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and
possibilities for the 19th century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded
Age, Julian West falls asleep with difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year
2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him in the 19th century have been cast
aside.
As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took
over U.S. and the endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. The Gilded
Age, as Mark Twain referred, was a time identified with economic boom and social
change. During those years, U.S. experienced the transition from agricultural to urban
together with industrialisation, scientific innovations and an economic boom. This
modernisation evolvement however, was followed by negative outcomes: as labour
demand amplified the need for immigration broke out and poverty became a
remarkable issue. What is more, the growth of middle class and its insatiable appetite

daughter know, but her mother is not only fluent in English but in xenophobia as

view math, reading, and appeasing the system to be of higher value. However,
learning a foreign language in elementary school takes advantage of the human
critical period for language acquisition, meets other countries in their education
systems catching the United States up with the rest of the developed world, and
provides abundant cognitive benefits that improve learning in various aspects.
The bedrock of biology dictates an evolutionarily advantageous yet inconvenient
reality: the critical period. It determines the window in an organism s life in which a
skill or behavior can be learned. It marks the peak of development. It heightens
sensitivity. It breeds talent. It is the very root of expertise. Even in birds, mating
songs must be learned within the finite window. Learning is confined by the rule of
the critical period and humans are no exception. Linguist Eric Lenneberg recognized
that human language is typically learned during its respective critical period infancy
through puberty ( Language Development ). Paul Thompson, brain researcher and
Michael Wolff s Essay A Life Worth Ending
In Michael Wolff s essay A Life Worth Ending , he presents his elements of non
fiction by mentioning it about events and about people. He takes into account how
life is unbearable once reaching a certain age or certain illnesses from which the
title of the book derives A Life Worth Ending . He persuades us of the fact that
getting older may not benefits every individual specially if you are suffering from
incurable diseases. And, the medical industry do not focus of how to improve our
overall wellness unless it is profitable. To be more specific, the essay is about his
mother and what she undergoes as she gets older.
According to his writings, Michael Wolff introduces his mother as a lovable lady
who s suffering from the early stages of dementia. The author explains in detail the
how from is perspective that life is not worth holding on to. To validate such
statements, we may refer to the following quote from his personal diary: The better
you have lived the worse you may die. In other words, he tells us that death is
inevitable and regardless of how well we take care of ourselves, we will have to go
through the path of suffering before reaching out death. But, the worst thing is that

would be at ease since he would pay for his mom s care easier. The conditions

Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self
sufficiency and that the power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its
gold and silver reserves. Ultimately, a nation should arrange to produce everything
it needed for its own citizens and sell surpluses to for hard currency. This metal
reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or solve
shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important
part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by
producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and
tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods,
particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant
that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the
colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure
that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth,
various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the
colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American
products to other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before
continuing onward. Also, goods traveling to and from America had to be

person who works in a country other than the one of which he or she is a citizen and

The Great Migration
In the years 1910 1970 our country saw one of the largest population shifts in
history. More than 6 million African Americans trying to escape segregation laws
and poor economic opportunities fled the South in hopes of finding a better way of
life in the North, Midwest, and West. This would later been called The Great
Migration. When the post Civil war reconstruction period ended in 1876 Jim Crow
policies (the practice of segregating black people in the U.S.), and white supremacy
returned to the South. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) had been dissolved in 1869, but it
continued underground with intimidation, violence and lynching of black
southerners. They were forced to work the land as part of the sharecropping system,
which was a landowner allowing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When World War I began in 1914 it brought a halt to this massive immigration
within 3 years. When the U.S. entered the war in 1917 it created an economic boom.
Workers were needed to meet the increased demand for war supplies and the surplus
of southern workers were the answer. Word began to spread about the abundant job
opportunities in the North. Labor agents from the North were offering train passes,
and black newspapers were advertising the superior wages and benefits of living in
the North. Letters from recent migrants were read throughout churches, barbershops,
and meeting halls to lure the black laborers from the South. Even though they were
surrounded by these influences many decided to stay.
Making the trip was very expensive with passenger fares rising from 2 cents to 24
cents per mile within 3 years. They were also faced with unfamiliar procedures,
unfriendly conductors, and very little food and drink available. Many migrants had
to make the trip in stages, stopping of to work in order to move onto the next leg of
the journey. During the early phase employers would assist the migrants, deducting
the costs of travel from future

Analysis Of Rachels Why Should We Be Moral
Recall: In the Why Should We Be Moral, Rachels makes several important points:
1) The Ring of Gyges illustrates how behaving immorally can sometimes be to one
s advantage. Glaucon argues that all of us would behave like Gyges, if we thought
we could get away with it. 2) Rachels points out that it is a good thing for you if
other people live ethically, but it becomes another maВІer if you are bound by moral
constraints. 3) Rachels mentions one familiar idea that right living consists in
obedience to God s commands. 4) Rachels argues that we should be as good as we
can be to increase our chances of eternal bliss. 5) Rachels mentions the Divine
Command Theory, which is an action is morally right if it is commanded by God. 6)

7) Rachels argues that nothing can be morally right or wrong simply because a book
says so . 8) Kant argues that if Gods does not exist, then the universe is morally
incomplete, because virtue will unrewarded and wickedness will go unpunished. 9)
Hobbes argues that ethics arises when people realize what they must do to live as
well as they can. 10) Rachels points out that a cooperative society can exist only if
we adopt certain rules of behavior. 11) Rachels argues that social contract is the basis
of morality, which can be understood as the rules that a self interested person would
agree to obey, provided that others agree to obey them as well. 12) The reasons why
the social contract theory is attractive: it takes the mystery out of ethic and make it a
practical, down to earth business. it approach gives us a sensible way of determining
what our moral duties are. it answers Glaucon s question. 13) Rachels minions the

Edward Muybridge s Photography
It all started in with a photographer named Edward Muybridge. He was a bright
photographer who gained recognition by photographing animals and humans in
movement. He was hired by a rail road baron in 1872 to prove that there is a certain
point in a horse s gallop, when all of the horse s hooves are off the ground. From
his success with this project he went to produce many more movement studies as
he worked at the University of Pennsylvania. Muybridge used a process called
freeze frame to create this study. Freeze frame is used when a single shot is printed
in a frame several times. Muybridge took a shot of the horse during every step of its
movements.
From there in 1892 Emil Reynaud invented the Praxinoscope. This was a theatrical
Zoetrope that had mirrors placed on the inside so that he sequenced drawings that
are inside of the drum reflect of the mirrors like a projector. From there nothing
really big happens until the 1900 s. In 1900, Stuart Blackton creates a prototype of
animation, The Enchanted Drawing . This isn t considered a proper animation

When the frequency of the IR(infrared) is the same as the vibrational frequency of a

This IR spectrum sets forts wave numbers in the X axis and the transmittance at the Y

The story revolves around Garrett who grieved over the death of his wife,
Catherine. As a way of release, he put his sadness into words by writing love letters
addressed to his late wife, then place them in a bottle and throw them out in the sea.
And Theresa Osborne, a 36 year old mother of one named Kevin and a divorcee, is a
Boston newspaper columnist. This book tells of a lovethat is everlasting and
unbreakable.
The story begins when Theresa finds a bottle on the shore of Cape Cod, a beach
where she is in for a vacation along with her editor and a dear friend, Deanna. Inside
the bottle is a love letter written for a woman named Catherine by a man named
Garrett. Theresa instantly got interested to find out who s who (Garrett and Catherine).

The plot was very well written and was easy to be understood. The story was sad,
tragic, distressing and a definite tear jerker. The characters were more human, they
were much more flawed, but real. I do like and admire Theresa because of her
attitude towards taking care of Kevin, her son. It showed her undying love and
passion because even though she is a single parent, she still managed to raise her
son. I also like Garrett because he showed how devoted he is to his ex wife
Catherine. He has a very truthful and real attitude just like his well written letters.
The character that I love the most is Jeb Blake, Garret s father. Even though he
only had few exposures in the book, I learned a lot from him especially with his
fatherly advice, his words of wisdom. I can relate to it because just like Garret, I
have a father who likes giving advices, who always remind what and what not to
do. If I were to choose a third main character it would definitely be Catherine.
Although, she was already dead, everything in the novel was because of her, about
her, for the sake of
Superego Of Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst, is notably known for
creating the idea of the id, the ego and superego. These three concepts, according to
Freud, make up the human psyche and provide some insight and understanding into
how the human mind works. These so called systems in the brain are in no way
physical but together, they make up a whole and contribute towards an individual s
behavior.
The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of
everything biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual
desires. The id can be described as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and
hidden urges of an individual. Repressed memories in the unconscious mind resides in
the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and superego developed at different stages in
an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it does not have the morals and
social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego, unlike the id, is
partly conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the
id and the superego as it makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically
and logically (as the id would) or based on morality and societal influences (as the
superego would). The ego would create the realistic ways to fulfill the id s demands
that are impulsive and with little regard to any consequences. Defense mechanisms
exist within the ego due to the fact that it often faces anxiety

conversion of carbohydrates from the plants anaerobically converted into lactic
acid. This is an incredibly simple process brought on by the homolactic
Lactobacillus bacteria as the carbohydrates such as glucose as converted into 2
molecules of pyruvate by glycolysis, which is then converted into 2 molecules of
lactic acid; creating ATP and involving both the reduction of NAD+ for use in
glycolysis, but then also the oxidation of NADH to regenerate more NAD+ (Morton
J S, 1980). However, secondary fermentation can be taken by the Clostridia bacteria
if the pH does not increase fast enough, which convert the produced lactic acid into
butyric acid, increasing the pH but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two loosely packed silage s also indicated an increased production of Clostridia
behaviour as the pH was slightly higher from the conversion of lactate to butyrate,
caused specifically by Saccharolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988), and the high
levels of Ammonia Nitrogen due to the Clostridia consuming the amino acids and
proteins and producing ammonia as the waste product. This data suggests that this
kikuyu grass barely entered the primary fermentation stage properly due to the
incredibly loose packing of the grass, therefore having a large surface area, and
having a constant supply of oxygen. As seen in figure 10., the Crude Protein (CP)
percentage in the silage of the immature and mature loosely packed kikuyu is also
the most varied from the grass CP (0.7% difference for the immature, 0.2% for the
mature), further indicating the Clostridia growth as the Proteolytic Clostridia (Muck
R E 1988) consumed the protein and converted it to ammonia during the
fermentation, and therefore there is less protein available for the ruminants to digest
and absorb (Rasby R, Martin J, n.d). Although the two loosely packed silage s had a
low butyric acid percentage, the other factors indicated that this was the poorest
silage when applying it to real scenarios; the high ammonia and poor nutritional value
makes this silage disastrous to feed to
Team Enzyme Experiment
Team enzyme project report
Introduction
Enzymes are proteins that acts as biological catalysts, helping to catalyze chemical
reactions. This is means that an alternative reaction pathway of lower activation
energy is provided during the speed up reaction. Most enzymes are proteins and hence
have a three dimensional structure of folded polypeptide chains. Most enzymes have
an optimal temperature and pH range in which they function most effectively. If
changes occur that remove the enzyme out of this range, it may not function
effectively. This principle forms the basis of this experimental design where the
increasing temperature results in the denaturing of the enzymes found in bromelain
and thus lowering its catalytic effectiveness. Bromelain ... Show more content on

The Country s National Income
Founded on August 14th 1947, after gaining independence from Great Britain,
Pakistan is located in South East Asia bordering Afghanistan and India. With a
population of about 189 million, most of whom are Sunni Muslim, Pakistan is a
country that falls under the lower middle income bracket, and where most
inhabitants reside in rural areas. The country s government, which is a federally
parliamentary republic is one that works as both a democratic and dictatorship
regime ( The World Factbook Central Intelligence Agency , 2016). The country s
gross national income per capita is about $5,090 and about 12.7 percent of the
population survive on less that $1.25 a day ( GNI per capita, Atlas method (current
US$) | Data , 2015; The World Factbook Central Intelligence Agency , 2016). The
country has received over $3,611,900,000 dollars a year in foreign aid and owes
about $64 billion dollars in debt to other countries. ( Net official development
assistance and official aid received (current US$) | Data , 2015). In addition to the
poverty in Pakistan, there is also a severe lack of education and healthcare
expenditures from the government. The population of Pakistan has an average life
expectancy of about 66.2 years of age and a crude death rate of 6.5 per 1000
population. More so, Pakistan has an average adult literacy rate of about 58% and a
school enrollment rate averaging about 57% ( The World Factbook Central
Intelligence Agency , 2016). The lack of education leads to

The Hidden Truth about Breatfeeding or Formula
Rocket Science. Breastfeeding makes babies smarter. The controversy of
breastfeeding and the use is breast milk substitutes for infant formula has been
going on for years now. In the past there has been facts proving that infant formula
has caused illness and deaths worldwide. I see this type of strife on busses,
billboards, and the social media. It has caught my attention to conduct a survey
and see how many women breastfeed, to see the quantity of women that do care
for. I have set up a survey of a sample of a 100 mothers and asked two questions if
you have breastfeed or if you have not? I had attached a second section asking if
the mother is married or single, attending college or not, and their age. This survey
was done by paper, interviews, and online. I choose different type of women from
different type of ethnicity ad places like relatives, friends, school, coworkers, and
random people from social media. Low percentage of mother s breastfeed. The
first question the participant mothers were asked was if they have breastfeed? As
shown on Figure 1.1, the results revealed that only 15% of women in the study
breastfeed their babies. I was very shocked of the low percentage. This question is
the conclusion to my research because I m trying to figure out why women don t
breastfeed. The women that were married and not working or only working part time
tend to breastfeed. As it is rare for women to be married and only focusing on the
household, the percentage of
Review Of Making And Keeping Peace
Review: Making and Keeping Peace
Suzanne Werner and Amy Yuen
Introduction
The article written by Werner and Yuen examines the durability of peace after
interstate conflicts. Criticizing the reliance of the past literature only on the strength
of peace agreements, they suggest two other key variables affecting peace durability:
whether the ceasefire followed a consistent pattern of battle outcomes; and whether
the war was interrupted by third party pressure, resulting in a ceasefire. The primary
assumption behind both variables is that if the agreement reflects the belligerents
convergent expectations about the military consequences of continuing the war, it
will be less likely to fail. Wars interrupted by third party intervention or ended without
a clear winner do not reveal enough information about the prospects of continuing
fighting and therefore, are more likely to resume.
In this paper, the author critically analyzes this article from various perspectives.
Although the article is an important contribution to the IR literature on peace, some
points in the article require further clarification and research. First, some issues with
the two new variables and the way they are coded are discussed. Then, some general
points about the conclusions they draw from the data are presented.
Variables
In my opinion, some aspects of the definition of the variables they introduce are
problematic or at least unclear. The battle consistency variable can take a value
between 1 and 0.
Examples Of Justice In The Scottsboro Boys
The scottsboro boys were a group of young black boys on a train. Then they got into
a fight with a couple white boys on the train and threw them off . Next two young
white woman that were also riding the train said they raped them and sent the boys
were sent to court.
The central ideas of justice develop throughout the book by when the boys are first
put on trial to when the boys are released or died.Based on the definition of justice
and my beliefs justice means that everyone gets the same thing and is treated
equally. The scottsboro boys did not receive justice when they were first trialed but
in the end they did receive justice and some of the boys were set free. The
Scottsboro boys eventually got their pardons but they were long past due ... Show

This time, however, Judge Horton was removed from the case and replaced with
Judge William Callahan, well known for being a traditional, old school jurist. As
Patterson said of Callahan, He couldn t get us to the chair fast enough. Indeed,
Callahan showed his colors when, after the evidence against Patterson was presented

under the law that she will not and did not yield voluntarily to intercourse with the

Livestrong as a Genre

its unparalleled features. Livestrong has a video page on YouTube for the sole
reason to unite and link with other members of the society who make use of social

In fact, the voices in the video are of cancer survivors using the using Livestrong
foundation commercial to motivate cancer patients by telling them they will emerge
from the killer disease (Rechis, Ellen and Stephanie, 76). Livestrong has a link where
a user interested in viewing the image can use to access the video.
Livestrong video is created with the most appealing visuals to attract more viewers.
The visual and artistic of the Livestrong video page is the secret that draws viewers
in a platform where there is combination of bright and images of high quality since
an individuals have a higher chance of being attracted. Further, carry out an in depth
analysis pertaining the vision and start following as compared to situation when the
color is less enticing. Livestrong idea behind creating good interesting images in the
video is to get followers in aesthetically pleasing page to promote the campaign for
fighting cancer together. By joining hands and bravery speaking about the killer
menace.
All genres have rhetorical strategies put in place and therefore the commercial on
Livestrong foundation is one of them. Pathos pull emotions by using both images
and alluring color scheme. When a video looks bright and people in it appear
pleased, it automatically makes whoever is viewing it happy. In addition, many
slogans relate to how people in the page are determined to achieve the cause of what
they started, the

For example, to find out how much the company Operating revenue has increase
since 2013 the consultant would have to take the amount of Revenue the company
made in 2015 which was $153,324,384 and divide by the amount the company had
in 2013 $ 142,931,312. After doing the calculation the consultant would have got a
ratio of 104.4% of the increase in 2015 since 2013. After that to find the percent of
increase in 2014 which was $153,193,953 then the individual would divide by the
base amount from 2013 $146,824,45 and there would have been a 104.3%
increase. The consultant should include this ratio in their analyzation because it
will show how much the Port makes a year, even though they are under contraction
trying to expand their Port. This information would see if the Port is losing
business because of the projects that they are doing on their Port or not. Also,
while doing the Horizontal analyses the advisor should include the Ratio of
increase or decrease in the firm Expenses over the years since the company has to
spend money to complete their Projects. To be able to receive this ratio the
individual would take the amount of expenses from both 2015 and 2015 and divide
the amount spend in in the year 2013 from these numbers to get the ratio of increase.

Cats And Cats
Cats need exercise to keep their body in shape, muscle tone, and claws sharp. It also
helps prevent certain health conditions, such as overweight, muscle stiffness, and
rigidity. When cats and kittens play, they improve their coordination, agility, and

socializing with other cats or by doing outdoor activities, if possible.
Playing with Toys
Cats love to play, especially the squeaky ones. You can play with them using toys

It does not mean you automatically need another cat in your home. You can
introduce your pet to one of your friends that owns another cat in a neutral territory.
Once they get acquainted, you may have them two become exercise partners. At least
two cats are likely to be more active than a lonesome feline.
A pair of cats who get along well will get plenty of exercise through their own
wrestling and chasing games. I ve known older cats who still wrestle like kittens,
said Dr. Jean Hofve, an author and a manager of Little Big Cat in Denver.
If you do not know another cat owner, you may consider buying another one. It is

won t just run off. The cat harness must be secure and comfortable on them, because
you do not want to hurt their body, skin, and damage their coat. Once your pet is
ready, head outside and allow them to sniff their surroundings and get familiar with

With polymer all you have to do is package it, then set the package in the water.
When you put the package of polymer in the water what it does is really
spectacular; it adsorbs, only attaching to the outside, the oil and that makes it a
whole lot easier to pick it up (Oil spill Clean up experiment). Another experiment is a
girl puts water in a aluminum container, then put in oil. She first used the sponge,
then cornmeal, then the cotton ball (Oil spill project).
Oil is one of the constant things that take away life. It has been clear to people that
oil is dangerous, the oil can also kill many things that consume the oil. Oil is getting

downsize the number of deaths there are each year because of the oil spills. This

objectives in Fashion, Visual Arts, Interior Design, or Entertainment. We ve all been
there before, going through the stressful series of narrowing down our preferred
colleges of choice. Option 1. Stay in home town, whilst remaining content. Option 2.
Travel half way across country risking vulnerability and exposing yourself to long
periods of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Unlike my fellow classmates, when
it was time to cross the long anticipated stage and receive my high schooldiploma, I
had no clue where I wanted to invest the next few years of my life. So I decided to
take a gap year. After being on hiatus for almost a full year, in the summer
Foreshadowing In Oedipus The King
Foreshadowing is a tool used by playwrights and authors of all types as a means to
direct the audience into a path of questioning and intrigue throughout the course of
a novel or play. After reading both of these theatrical works, it struck me just how
often I dismiss/fail to acknowledge the big red flags stuck within the ground of the
text and thus proceed to give myself incredibly undeserved credit at the end of
every reading for having figured out what was going to happen all by myself .
Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to examine the importance of this technique in
order to credit the playwrights and show how their use of foreshadowing creates
tension, credibility and a specific atmosphere in both of their fictitious worlds.

with a comic relief after learning about the seriousness of Figaro s predicament,
but also informs us about the future plans of the character which keeps us intrigued
and in anticipation for the remainder of the plot. It is important to note the way in
which the provision of knowledge in this play and the lack of it in Oedipus the
King are both capable of maintaining the curiosity of a spectator. However, I would
also like to point out that each tactic is suited to the genre of the play i.e. you want
to keep the audience informed as to what is going on in a comedy however, you want
to maintain the eeriness that comes along with not knowing what will happen next in a

The unit of analysis is an individual instead of a trip. The coefficient is
insignificant, suggesting that individuals do not choose to avoid driving trips
altogether after reading environmental coverage. In many cases, there are not
adequate substitutes for driving. For example, if a household is located in a rural
or suburban area, many or all of the potential destina tions for day to day travel
may be inaccessible without driving. Even in urban areas options such as walking
or public transit may be unappealing if the weather is partic 24 ularly unpleasant. In
column (2) of Table 5, I focus on households that have readier substitutes for
driving those who live in urban areas on days when the temperature is between
50В°F and 85В°F (10В°C and 30В°C). The results show that individuals in these
households do indeed drive less. For every environmental articles they receive in
the past week they reduce the number of driving trips per day by approximately
0.14. Column (4) shows that environmental coverage increases the number of
walking trips on these days by 0.10, suggesting that much of this is substitution
towards walking. Individuals are not choosing to avoid trips because of
environmental coverage, but are switching to low or no emissions modes of travel if
those modes are reasonable substitutes. The results in Tables 2, 4, and 5 paint a
consistent picture. If an individual is treated with more environmental coverage of

Essay About My Mother s House
When I was seventeen I decided to move out of my mother s house. Thinking it
would be the best for me, dropping out of high school with only one semester to
go. In moving out I made some unwise choices. I started hanging out with the
wrong crowd and picking up some not so good habits. I met a guy who oi thought
would take care of me and have a decent life ahead of me, how wrong was I. I got
into some hard times going through day to struggling with money and a drug
addiction. I enjoyed partying and drinking. I avoided visiting my family for the same
reasons. I knew what I was into and didn t want my family to know how bad off I
really was. This was hard for me because I had created this environment for myself
and I wasn t proud of it at all.
Several years passed and I kept the same routine. I would sit at home through the
week doing nothing to better my situation and on the weekends find some way to
get a high. I was content with the way I was living because no one knew exactly
what I did or how I was living. During this time I had found small jobs in
restaurants, I gained the trust of my employer to where he made me like a
manager and I ran the front while my boyfriend ran the kitchen, this didn t last
long either. With easy access to money we got further into our addictions. At the
end of the second year we were so far lost we decided to jump state. We moved from
Tennessee to Texas, with one of his sisters. We did well for a few months still hiding
the people we were. In
Preventive Health Behavior
Health behavior can be defined as action of individuals, groups and organizations, as
well as the determinants, correlates and consequences of these actions which include
social change, policy development and implementation, improved coping skills, and
enhanced quality of life.
According to Gochman, it defined health preventive as those personal attributes such
as beliefs, perceptions, motives, expectations, values and other cognitive elements;
personality characteristics which include affective and emotional states and traits;
and overt behavior patterns, actions, and habits that relate to health maintenance to
health restoration and to health improvement. However, in public health perspective,
it is concerned with individuals as part of a larger community. These perspectives ...

This can include self protective behavior, which is an action intended to confer
protection from potential harm, such as wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle,
using seat belts, or wearing a condom during sexual activity. Self protective behavior
is also known as cautious behavior.
Illness behavior is any activity undertaken by individuals who perceive themselves to
be ill for the purpose of defining their state of health, and discovering a suitable
remedy.
Health behaviors are shaped through a complex interplay of determinants at
different levels. For instance, social support from family and friends at the
interpersonal level, physical activity is influenced by self efficacy at the individual
level while perceptions of crime and safety at the community level. Ecological
models suggest that these multiple levels of influence interact across levels. Also,
social support for exercise from co workers may interact with the availability of
exercise equipment at the worksite to lead to increased physical
Music And Perceptions And Emotional Responses
In the last decade, there has been much debate over the value of musical training in
schools. Although some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of
time and resources, research has found that musical training can improve various
cognitive processes and skills, such as the development of language, reasoning,
pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can translate into other school subjects
as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and perceptions and
emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training.
In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is
important to understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical
perception and cognition are both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to
being passively transferred from the performer to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are
three levels of musical perception: the raw psychophysical perception of tones, the
perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their source, and the apprehension
of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel, 181). According
to Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and
perceives a musical stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and
form. The second level of musical perception is when the listener perceives abstract
qualities of the musical stimuli. The final level of musical
President Reag A Leader And Ethical Leader

human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect (Reagan s
State of the Union, n.d.). Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of the United
States and took office during a time of economic crisis, a disorderly foreign policy,
and a decline in national morale. When Reagan left office 8 years later, the
economic crisis was over, foreign policy was at an all time high and national morale
had been restored. In this essay I will illustrate how President Reagan was both a
visionary leader and ethical leader in the way he conducted himself throughout his
Presidency. I will demonstrate how he used the visionary leadershiptraits of a... Show

President Reagan sought to use team building to devise a cohesive team with US,
Soviet Union and Allied Nations. During these long drawn out treaties the different
nations would use the Z Process to come up with terms and conditions that would
ultimately end decades of nuclear impasse. President Reagan and other political
leaders were in constant state of creating, advancing, refining and executing their
ideas. In the Geneva and ReykjavГk Summits the allied nation team were not able to
come to decision and instead were stuck in the refining process of their ideas. The
summits were still looked upon as a success as Reagan was moving the team closer
to the vision of nuclear abolishment. It wasn t until the Intermediate Range Nuclear
Forces Treaty in 1987 where the team was able to complete the entire Z Process and
come to a decisive decision to abolish nuclear intermediate range weapons. Reagan
demonstrated he was a visionary leader by his use of team building while utilizing
the Z Process during treaty talks to come up with a solution to the nuclear stand. His
use of inspirational motivation during these treaty talks to motivate the allied nations
to commit to the common vision once again demonstrates how Reagan was a
visionary leader.

Though some may believe the Ozark Plateau has nothing but small towns with little

Essay about Parents Hitting Their Children
Parents Hitting Their Children
For this coursework, I will be looking at whether parents should be allowed to hit
their children or children that are being looked after by them.
Like most questions there are usually two sides to the argument.
The 1st reason why parents should be allowed to hit their kids is to enforce a form of
discipline.
The other reason why hitting children is bad is because by hitting a child, they may
be emotionally scared for life.
Many people have different views on this topic; some are for it, some are against it.
The United Nations (UN) as a violation of basic human rights have condemned the
national U.K. law.

For example, confiscating their toys wouldn t be as effective because the parents
may eventually give the toys back or may give into the child s request.
Other parents argue that hitting your child is wrong.
This is because hitting the child may upset them even after the discipline has been
enforced.
Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make
the child form hatred towards the parent.
Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can
lose their temper in the heat of the moment and can t physically stop themselves from
doing it.
Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem.
When I was a child, my parents used to discipline me by hitting me but only if I
behaved very badly.
Looking back on it now, it wasn t so bad because they only ever hit me when I was
naughty and I was never emotionally or physically hurt from it. I was only
physically hurt for a moment but I guess that s one of the reasons why I behaved.
Over time I eventually learnt how to behave the way my parents wanted me to so
the hitting stopped. This made me the person I am today. I consider myself lucky
compared to other children who have been treated badly or hurt from their parents

The Age Of Manufacturing That Preceded The Romantic
Movement
The age of manufacturing that preceded the Romantic Movement was characterized
by industrialization and scientific, professional thinking. The philosophy of the era
teaches that thoughts and assertions are only meaningful if they can be confirmed
with evidence or valid reasoning. As a result, any assertion about entities from the
abstract or conceptual alike, whether a statement about mermaids and unicorns or
God and nature, is considered meaningless since they cannot be confirmed by factual
report. This all started changing when the future leaders of the enlightenment decided
that we should resort to more emotional thinking. Jean Jacques Rousseau, one of the
leaders of the enlightenment observed that science was transforming Europe into
unemotional machines. He says, Man was born free, but everywhere he is in
chains...Let us return to nature. (Schaeffer 154) Rousseau foresaw a threat to general
freedom of thought, which thus sparked the Romantic Movement. Two poets that
romanced nature during this era were: William Wordsworth(1770 1850) and John
Keats(1795 1821). To Autumn by John Keats and Lines Composed a Few Miles
above Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth are both comparable and representative
of the Romantic Movement. They have separate techniques and application, but are
both recognized as significant works of Romanticism. The themes in both poems
emphasize nature, emotion, and the capacity for wonder and imagination, which
reiterate the sentiments of the era.
Adolescence And Its Effects On Adult Behavior Essay
Adolescence is a turbulent time in every individual s life, containing marked
behavioral and biological changes as the brain rapidly develops into its mature form.
This period overlaps with puberty, the process of attaining sexual maturation, and
throughout its progression intricate differences between the two sexes are revealed
that were not previously apparent. (Spear, 2000; TEXTBOOK) It is thought that
adolescence is a necessary process, a period of transition through which individuals
prepare for living independently in adulthood. Adolescents begin to emulate adult
behaviors and seek novelty, with an inhibited regard for danger, as they accumulate
the skills needed to provide for themselves. (Spear, 2000) There are several
characteristics of adolescence that seem to make an individual more prone to
experimenting with addictive druguse, to his or her potential detriment. These
include: an increase in taking species specific risks, an overall rise in novelty
seeking, and a particularly relevant phenomenon of finding peer interactions more
socially rewarding than those conducted with an adult caretaker. (Spear, 2000)
Partaking in illicit drugs is a clear form of risky behavior in human adolescents;
children in developed countries are educated about the potential consequences of
such misconduct, particularly those of abusing alcohol and/or tobacco. However,
animal studies that compare drug use during development versus in adulthood
provide evidence that adults will
The Age Of Enlightenment
The Age of Enlightenment was a movement of the 18th century that introduced
ideas that strayed from the traditional ideas of the church. In fact, some
philosophers rejected Christianity, arguing that it drew focus away from creating a
better life on earth and instead promised people a false after world. Such ideas
were exemplified by philosophers such as Friedrich Schiller, who argued that
thought and reason were superior to one s senses or feelings. Likewise, many
intellectual groups valued the individual conscience and ability to reason over
religious inspiration. While religion was being challenged in Europe, across the
Atlantic, the American Revolution rejected the monarch and created way for a
representative government. These ideas are prevalent in and developed in the
writings of Jeremy Bentham. Born in 1748, Bentham was an English philosophe
who pushed heavily for social reform. In 1798, he helped form the Thames River
Police to prevent theft on the Thames River, and in 1823, he co founded a liberal
publication titled the Westminster Review. Bentham held particularly progressive
and even radical ideas that were generally not presented by other philosophers of the
Enlightenment era.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He supported freedom of expression, arguing that it brought forth social reform. On
the topic of the Protestant Reformation, Bentham writes, It is freedom of inquiry
which has corrected the errors of the ages of ignorance, and brought back religion
towards its true object. He refers to the corrupt Roman Catholic that provoked the
Reformation, and the consequent simplification of faith in Protestantism. Bentham
argues that religion was transformed as a result of inquiry and questioning by the
people of the Roman Catholic church. He contrasts this more direct faith resulting
from freedom of inquiry with the cause of the Thirty Years

Bryant went through many hard times throughout his life; from losing family
members to being socially isolated. He lost many family members and close
friends. The one death that hurt him the most was his father s. Bryant s father was
a very important part of his life; his father taught him many things throughout his
lifetime. His father submitted five of his poems into the North American Review,
one of those were the first version of Thanatopsis . It is said that Bryant mourned
his father s death and that his death is what gave him the emotional passion to write
with. As a child Bryant was forced to work on a farm, he spent most of his time
outdoors. Due to being outdoors a majority of his life, Bryant was able to obtain his...

Consumption . Bryant speaks of a woman who is on the verge of dying due to the
inability to be healed. He speaks of this when he states The fields for thee have no
medicinal leaf and the vexed ore no mineral of power . In this verse Bryant speaks
of death in a calming and relaxing voice. Bryant is somewhat fearless when it
comes to God and death. In the last two verses of Consumption he states Close thy
sweet eyes, calmly, and without pain: And we will trust in God to see thee yet
again . These verses prove that Bryant still has faith in heaven and God. It has been
said that Bryant s religious beliefs began to fade overtime, but through his writing
one would never be able to tell. Bryant had thoughts that were triggered by nature.
Bryant often speaks of birds, flowers, the sky, bodies of water, and fields which
lead to Bryant taking notice of his surroundings. Bryant s love for nature is nothing
short of amazing. Nature speaks to his heart, which allows nature to be more of a
feeling than just trees, birds, plants, etc. Bryant s writing is charming and simplistic.
Bryant is fond of nature s beauty. He never speaks of the ugliness in nature. He has a
way of making everything come alive and seem even more beautiful than what it
already is. Bryant tends to

It is available as four stable isotopes ubiquitously (Isotopes are differ in forms of an by number of protons in nucleus but possess a variable number of neutrons.) Strontium88 is the most dominant among other forms, comprising 83% of natural strontium, where in additional three stable isotopes and their relative abundance are strontium 84 (0.6%), strontium 86 (9.9%), and strontium 87 (7.0%). Strontium is available ubiquitous vitally as as celestite (SrSO4) and strontianite (SrCO3), and it comprises about 0.025% of the earth s crust. There are 16 major radioactive isotopes of strontium, but only strontium 90 has a half life sufficiently long (29 years). In comparison with half lives of remaining strontium radionuclides are fewer than 65 days. Strontium 90 decays to yttrium 90 by decaying a beta particle, and yttrium 90 decays by decaying a energetic beta particle with a half life of 64 hours to zirconium 90. The key health concerns for strontium 90 are associated to the energetic beta particle from yttrium 90.2 Strontium 90 is a pure ОІ emitter, produced in nuclear п¬Ѓssion of (235U and 239Pu п¬Ѓssion reaction). Orpheus also decides that he is the man who is going to save his beloved Eurydice, The Thracian poet took her hand: he led/ his wife away but heard the gods command (Ovid 327). Orpheus put himself in charge of bringing his wife back from death, which is similar to what is seen in fairy tales; a man is going to save a girl from death, punishment, etc. This is a very traditional view of how women should be treated, and Duffy s rewrite does a good job illustrating the changes that have taken place from the time of Orpheus until the time Duffy wrote this
  • 6. Future Visions of America in Looking Backward by Edward... Published in 1888 Looking Backward depicts a future vision of America. Utopian Boston of the year 2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism. Through the medium of romantic novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of socialism into the nineteenth century American society. Written at a period when economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution of wealth , Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems. From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and possibilities for the 19th century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded Age, Julian West falls asleep with difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year 2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him in the 19th century have been cast aside. As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took over U.S. and the endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. The Gilded Age, as Mark Twain referred, was a time identified with economic boom and social change. During those years, U.S. experienced the transition from agricultural to urban together with industrialisation, scientific innovations and an economic boom. This modernisation evolvement however, was followed by negative outcomes: as labour demand amplified the need for immigration broke out and poverty became a remarkable issue. What is more, the growth of middle class and its insatiable appetite

Many Americans see no point in bilingual elementary education because they view math, reading, and appeasing the system to be of higher value. However, learning a foreign language in elementary school takes advantage of the human critical period for language acquisition, meets other countries in their education systems catching the United States up with the rest of the developed world, and provides abundant cognitive benefits that improve learning in various aspects. The bedrock of biology dictates an evolutionarily advantageous yet inconvenient reality: the critical period. It determines the window in an organism s life in which a skill or behavior can be learned. It marks the peak of development. It heightens sensitivity. It breeds talent. It is the very root of expertise. Even in birds, mating songs must be learned within the finite window. Learning is confined by the rule of the critical period and humans are no exception. Linguist Eric Lenneberg recognized that human language is typically learned during its respective critical period infancy through puberty ( Language Development ). Paul Thompson, brain researcher and

This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before continuing onward. Also, goods traveling to and from America had to be

He was hired by a rail road baron in 1872 to prove that there is a certain point in a horse s gallop, when all of the horse s hooves are off the ground. From his success with this project he went to produce many more movement studies as he worked at the University of Pennsylvania. Muybridge used a process called freeze frame to create this study. • 17. Superego Of Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst, is notably known for creating the idea of the id, the ego and superego. These three concepts, according to Freud, make up the human psyche and provide some insight and understanding into how the human mind works. These so called systems in the brain are in no way physical but together, they make up a whole and contribute towards an individual s behavior. The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of everything biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual desires. The id can be described as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and hidden urges of an individual. Repressed memories in the unconscious mind resides in the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and superego developed at different stages in an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it does not have the morals and social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego, unlike the id, is partly conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the id and the superego as it makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically and logically (as the id would) or based on morality and societal influences (as the superego would). The ego would create the realistic ways to fulfill the id s demands that are impulsive and with little regard to any consequences. Defense mechanisms exist within the ego due to the fact that it often faces anxiety

  • 19. Clostridia Essay The fermentation that occurs during the making of good silage focuses on the conversion of carbohydrates from the plants anaerobically converted into lactic acid. This is an incredibly simple process brought on by the homolactic Lactobacillus bacteria as the carbohydrates such as glucose as converted into 2 molecules of pyruvate by glycolysis, which is then converted into 2 molecules of lactic acid; creating ATP and involving both the reduction of NAD+ for use in glycolysis, but then also the oxidation of NADH to regenerate more NAD+ (Morton J S, 1980). However, secondary fermentation can be taken by the Clostridia bacteria if the pH does not increase fast enough, which convert the produced lactic acid into butyric acid, increasing the pH but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two loosely packed silage s also indicated an increased production of Clostridia behaviour as the pH was slightly higher from the conversion of lactate to butyrate, caused specifically by Saccharolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988), and the high levels of Ammonia Nitrogen due to the Clostridia consuming the amino acids and proteins and producing ammonia as the waste product. This data suggests that this kikuyu grass barely entered the primary fermentation stage properly due to the incredibly loose packing of the grass, therefore having a large surface area, and having a constant supply of oxygen. As seen in figure 10., the Crude Protein (CP) percentage in the silage of the immature and mature loosely packed kikuyu is also the most varied from the grass CP (0.7% difference for the immature, 0.2% for the mature), further indicating the Clostridia growth as the Proteolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988) consumed the protein and converted it to ammonia during the fermentation, and therefore there is less protein available for the ruminants to digest and absorb (Rasby R, Martin J, n.d). Although the two loosely packed silage s had a low butyric acid percentage, the other factors indicated that this was the poorest silage when applying it to real scenarios; the high ammonia and poor nutritional value makes this silage disastrous to feed to

This is means that an alternative reaction pathway of lower activation energy is provided during the speed up reaction. Most enzymes are proteins and hence have a three dimensional structure of folded polypeptide chains. Most enzymes have an optimal temperature and pH range in which they function most effectively. If changes occur that remove the enzyme out of this range, it may not function effectively. Criticizing the reliance of the past literature only on the strength of peace agreements, they suggest two other key variables affecting peace durability: whether the ceasefire followed a consistent pattern of battle outcomes; and whether the war was interrupted by third party pressure, resulting in a ceasefire. The primary assumption behind both variables is that if the agreement reflects the belligerents convergent expectations about the military consequences of continuing the war, it will be less likely to fail. Wars interrupted by third party intervention or ended without a clear winner do not reveal enough information about the prospects of continuing fighting and therefore, are more likely to resume. In this paper, the author critically analyzes this article from various perspectives. Although the article is an important contribution to the IR literature on peace, some points in the article require further clarification and research. First, some issues with the two new variables and the way they are coded are discussed. Then, some general points about the conclusions they draw from the data are presented. Variables In my opinion, some aspects of the definition of the variables they introduce are problematic or at least unclear. The battle consistency variable can take a value between 1 and 0.

Although some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of time and resources, research has found that musical training can improve various cognitive processes and skills, such as the development of language, reasoning, pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can translate into other school subjects as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and perceptions and emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training. In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is important to understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical perception and cognition are both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to being passively transferred from the performer to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are three levels of musical perception: the raw psychophysical perception of tones, the perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their source, and the apprehension of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel, 181). According to Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and perceives a musical stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and form. The second level of musical perception is when the listener perceives abstract qualities of the musical stimuli. The final level of musical

Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make the child form hatred towards the parent. Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can lose their temper in the heat of the moment and can t physically stop themselves from doing it. Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem. When I was a child, my parents used to discipline me by hitting me but only if I behaved very badly. Looking back on it now, it wasn t so bad because they only ever hit me when I was naughty and I was never emotionally or physically hurt from it. I was only physically hurt for a moment but I guess that s one of the reasons why I behaved.
  • 46. Over time I eventually learnt how to behave the way my parents wanted me to so the hitting stopped. This made me the person I am today. I consider myself lucky compared to other children who have been treated badly or hurt from their parents

  • 48. The Age Of Manufacturing That Preceded The Romantic Movement The age of manufacturing that preceded the Romantic Movement was characterized by industrialization and scientific, professional thinking. The philosophy of the era teaches that thoughts and assertions are only meaningful if they can be confirmed with evidence or valid reasoning. As a result, any assertion about entities from the abstract or conceptual alike, whether a statement about mermaids and unicorns or God and nature, is considered meaningless since they cannot be confirmed by factual report. This all started changing when the future leaders of the enlightenment decided that we should resort to more emotional thinking. Jean Jacques Rousseau, one of the leaders of the enlightenment observed that science was transforming Europe into unemotional machines. He says, Man was born free, but everywhere he is in chains...Let us return to nature. (Schaeffer 154) Rousseau foresaw a threat to general freedom of thought, which thus sparked the Romantic Movement. Two poets that romanced nature during this era were: William Wordsworth(1770 1850) and John Keats(1795 1821). To Autumn by John Keats and Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth are both comparable and representative of the Romantic Movement. They have separate techniques and application, but are both recognized as significant works of Romanticism. The themes in both poems emphasize nature, emotion, and the capacity for wonder and imagination, which reiterate the sentiments of the era.
  • 49. Adolescence And Its Effects On Adult Behavior Essay Adolescence is a turbulent time in every individual s life, containing marked behavioral and biological changes as the brain rapidly develops into its mature form. This period overlaps with puberty, the process of attaining sexual maturation, and throughout its progression intricate differences between the two sexes are revealed that were not previously apparent. (Spear, 2000; TEXTBOOK) It is thought that adolescence is a necessary process, a period of transition through which individuals prepare for living independently in adulthood. Adolescents begin to emulate adult behaviors and seek novelty, with an inhibited regard for danger, as they accumulate the skills needed to provide for themselves. (Spear, 2000) There are several characteristics of adolescence that seem to make an individual more prone to experimenting with addictive druguse, to his or her potential detriment. These include: an increase in taking species specific risks, an overall rise in novelty seeking, and a particularly relevant phenomenon of finding peer interactions more socially rewarding than those conducted with an adult caretaker. (Spear, 2000) Partaking in illicit drugs is a clear form of risky behavior in human adolescents; children in developed countries are educated about the potential consequences of such misconduct, particularly those of abusing alcohol and/or tobacco. However, animal studies that compare drug use during development versus in adulthood provide evidence that adults will
  • 50. The Age Of Enlightenment The Age of Enlightenment was a movement of the 18th century that introduced ideas that strayed from the traditional ideas of the church. In fact, some philosophers rejected Christianity, arguing that it drew focus away from creating a better life on earth and instead promised people a false after world. Such ideas were exemplified by philosophers such as Friedrich Schiller, who argued that thought and reason were superior to one s senses or feelings. Likewise, many intellectual groups valued the individual conscience and ability to reason over religious inspiration. While religion was being challenged in Europe, across the Atlantic, the American Revolution rejected the monarch and created way for a representative government. These ideas are prevalent in and developed in the writings of Jeremy Bentham. Born in 1748, Bentham was an English philosophe who pushed heavily for social reform. In 1798, he helped form the Thames River Police to prevent theft on the Thames River, and in 1823, he co founded a liberal publication titled the Westminster Review. Bentham held particularly progressive and even radical ideas that were generally not presented by other philosophers of the Enlightenment era.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He supported freedom of expression, arguing that it brought forth social reform. On the topic of the Protestant Reformation, Bentham writes, It is freedom of inquiry which has corrected the errors of the ages of ignorance, and brought back religion towards its true object. He refers to the corrupt Roman Catholic that provoked the Reformation, and the consequent simplification of faith in Protestantism. Bentham argues that religion was transformed as a result of inquiry and questioning by the people of the Roman Catholic church. He contrasts this more direct faith resulting from freedom of inquiry with the cause of the Thirty Years

Religion can also be in seen in his poem Consumption . Bryant speaks of a woman who is on the verge of dying due to the inability to be healed. He speaks of this when he states The fields for thee have no medicinal leaf and the vexed ore no mineral of power . In this verse Bryant speaks of death in a calming and relaxing voice. Bryant is somewhat fearless when it comes to God and death. In the last two verses of Consumption he states Close thy sweet eyes, calmly, and without pain: And we will trust in God to see thee yet again . These verses prove that Bryant still has faith in heaven and God. It has been said that Bryant s religious beliefs began to fade overtime, but through his writing one would never be able to tell. Bryant had thoughts that were triggered by nature. Bryant often speaks of birds, flowers, the sky, bodies of water, and fields which lead to Bryant taking notice of his surroundings. Bryant s love for nature is nothing short of amazing. Nature speaks to his heart, which allows nature to be more of a feeling than just trees, birds, plants, etc. Bryant s writing is charming and simplistic. Bryant is fond of nature s beauty. He never speaks of the ugliness in nature. He has a way of making everything come alive and seem even more beautiful than what it already is. Bryant tends to
