Essay World Peace
Writing an essay on the concept of global peace is no easy feat. It's not just about stringing
together eloquent words; it's about delving deep into a complex topic that encompasses political,
social, economic, and cultural dimensions.
Firstly, defining what "peace" means in a global context is a challenge in itself. Is it merely the
absence of war and conflict, or does it extend to broader notions of social justice, equality, and
human rights? This ambiguity necessitates thorough research and critical thinking to arrive at a
nuanced understanding.
Secondly, analyzing the factors that contribute to or hinder global peace requires navigating
through a labyrinth of historical events, geopolitical dynamics, and cultural intricacies. From
examining the role of superpowers and international institutions to understanding the impact of
colonial legacies and ideological divides, the breadth of information to consider is staggering.
Furthermore, proposing viable solutions for achieving and sustaining world peace demands
creativity and pragmatism. It's not enough to idealize lofty aspirations; one must also grapple
with the practical challenges of implementation amidst competing interests and power struggles.
Moreover, addressing the skeptics who argue against the feasibility of global peace necessitates
constructing compelling arguments backed by empirical evidence and logical reasoning.
Balancing optimism with realism is crucial to crafting a persuasive and credible essay.
In essence, tackling the topic of global peace in an essay requires a multi-faceted approach that
combines rigorous research, analytical thinking, persuasive writing, and a deep understanding of
the complexities inherent in human societies. It's a daunting task that demands intellectual rigor
and creativity.

Sari s Health Insurance Plan
Sari is an undergraduate student at Boston University and unfortunately, suffered a
head injury during her school break. The twenty one year old, BU crew team
member is now finding herself in need of a variety of different medical interventions
to help her return to normalcy. Her symptoms include short term memory problems,
change in appetite and mood, impaired physical abilities, and a change in her word
finding skills. Sari returned home after a night stay in the hospital. She is determined
to return to school, which her physician clears with the recommendation of her
receiving a multitude of different types of care. This paper will be an examination of
what Sari s health insuranceplan will cover and to what extent.
Sari is insured through a preferred provider organization, which will be referred to as
PPO for the continuation of this paper, from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (
Insurance Card , 2016). A PPO is a model of health insurance that are made up of
loose knit organizations where the provider is typically paid at a discounted rate
(Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2012, pp. 32 33). People with PPO type plans,
including Sari, are able to see providers that are out of network for a higher out of
pocket amount. Her insurance is provided through her father s employer and costs
$5884.58 per year (Saucier, Medical Insurance Spend , 2016). Due to the
recommendations from Sari s physician, it is very likely that she will be placed on
medication either for short term use or
Why I Want To Go To College Essay
Ever since I ve been deciding what college I want to go to in the future, it was hard
choosing the top three colleges I wanted to go to because I didn t know the major I
really want to study. As I was a freshman, I realized the majors I wanted to study
was informational science and medical science. This resulted me that the top three
colleges I want to apply to are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, and Stony Brook University.Ever since I wanted to go to Massachusetts
Institute of Technology as part of my top three choices, this was my first choice
because the top major that I really wanted to study was informational technology.
This top collegebest fits me because it s ranked the first for computer science which
sparked my strong interest that I wanted to apply to this college. Ever since in this
time of the era of the 21st century in which new technology innovations are
flourishing, this sparked my interest in why I wanted to study computer science at the
Massachusetts of Institute of Technology. The reason was so I can find more benefits

Thus, I also have a strong interest of studying medical science other than computer
science. The reason is I want capability into studying and making new medicines
and vaccines that can help others be immune to certain diseases such as HIV so
they can experience a healthy life and the perspective of the world till the
beginning of the twenty second century. Therefore, if I manage to apply to
Harvard University to study medical science, it would help me get a head start into
helping other people cure of serious illnesses who are at risk of dying. As a matter
of fact, this would give me a chance to make impact toward my time of generation so
more people can become healthier and stronger than from the
Critical Thinking In Nursing
In the field of nursing, critical thinking is practiced persistently, and every day
nursing interactions act as a whetstone for the critical mind. Authors, Elaine Simpson
RN and Mary Courtney RN state ...critical thinking is not a method to be learned, but
rather a process, an orientation of the mind, and includes both the cognitive and
affective domains of reasoning. (Simpson Courtney, 2002). In other words, critical
thought is a skill acquired through experience; in this instance, it is gained from
clinical practice. I envision myself using critical thinking when assessing my clients,
administering medication, enacting physician orders, and reviewing nursing
recommendations. Lipman s idea of critical thinking is dependent on criteria,
receptive of context, and is self correcting. Similarly, I believe that critical thinking is
judgement, specific to the current situation, that has substance based upon the
principles used to critique it. Put another way, critical thinking depends on standards
to guide its solution or response; these standards include clarity, relevance, accuracy,
fairness, completeness, precision, depth, breadth, and adequacy. (Jones, Elizabeth
A.|Ratcliff, 1993). I also believe that critical thinking is self correcting, because it is
based in logic and reasoning; vague solutions will always exist, but a sharp critical
thinker will always find the correct answer through the precise application of
reasoning. Critical thinking is used in every
The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan
Kozol...
Analysis of The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society In the essay, The Human Cost
of an Illiterate Society written by Jonathan Kozol and originally published in the
book, Illiterate America , is a bundle of examples of how people who are illiterate
live every day. It showcases the hardships they go through, and how much of a
problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate,
and how many become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written
document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol
heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these
struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the strategies
of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of
showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few times in this essay. The
main bulk of it is towards the beginning, when Kozol states a few statistics about
illiterate citizens in the United States, The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16
million the entire vote cast of the winner in the 1980 presidential contest...So long as
60 million people are denied significant participation, the government is neither of,
not for, nor by, the people (2). Kozol s main argument is how the current status of
illiterate Americans is a huge problem that we need to address, and the previous
quote from the text was his way of using logos to get us to think about the exact

questions or engage in conversations and over time echoes body withered away
leaving only her voice to repeat what someone says. Some cultures have many gods

Definitely the first question that came to mind. Well this encyclopedia I have right
here will tell you, in my own adaptation of course. The word myth was made by the
Greeks who first used it as a story that was told by mouth . Primitive people
believed that if they pretended things were theirs fortunate things would happen.
They would try to influence ran to come down from the sky or kill enemies by
drawing pictures of them and for example stab the drawings. At some point the stories
began increasing in length and more complex. The word legend came much further in
history (legere is the Latin word meaning to read ). Eventually myths mixed with
legends and the person telling them began to believe they were true. As people
discovered more ancient ruins and more about their stories were got a better
understanding of various cultures societies and how they worked. Hopefully you

The Colonization Of Virginia And William Shakespeare s
The...
In the 1600s, many countries separately set out in exploration for several reasons:
for religious expansion and freedom, for the establishment of new land in order to
accommodate for growing populations, and for an ultimate economic opportunity.
While this allowed for the expansion of civilization and ideas that ultimately led to
the creation of the United States, it came at the cost of the abuse and exploitation
of entire populations of natives that sometimes led to their complete erasure. The
natives of the land, presently known as America, claimed they were subject to
these horrors for no more of a reason than fun and the benefit of the incoming
colonists as a labor source. However, many colonists convey these experiences with
a sort of justification that these natives were, in reality, uncivilized savages who
failed to succumb to their wishes of adhering to their culture. These adverse
accounts of the growth of the colonies are still heavily debated today due to the lack
of truth and bias that exists within the written evidence provided by both sides.
While colonist views are challenged in William Shakespeare s The Tempestby
expressing the natives in a sympathetic light, it is clearly reflected in John Smith s
General History of Virginia and A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs.
Mary Rowlandson through the representation of natives as sadistic and inhumane
creatures. Despite the differing accounts on both sides, it is fairly universal that the

Essay On Marco Polo
I have not told half of what I saw Marco Polo. Marco Polo was a world famous
traveler and trader. The introductions of China and Asia, for many, was all thanks
to him. Polo is most known for his travels to China and his book. His book
describes the basis of the descriptions of places that were not really discovered.
Polo s childhood was rough and unordinary. Polo was born around 1254 in Venice.
Polo s mother died when Polo was young, leaving him with his father, Niccolo.
Niccolo and Polo s uncle, Maffeo, however, left on a long expedition to Asia. This
circumstance left Polo to be raised by his uncle and aunt. His uncle and aunt taught
Polo how to read, write, calculate arithmetic, and to become a merchant (McNeese;

When Polo and the brothers arrived at Khan s summer palace, in Shangdu, China,
Polo was in his 20 s. Polo, at that point, knew four different languages which Khan
loved. Khan decided to employ Polo and to send him out to explore unexplored
areas including China s eastern and southern provinces and parts of India and
Southeast Asia. Polo s travels gave him great knowledge of the Mongol empire,
and he introduced paper money to Europe. When Polo returned he started to govern
a city in China because Khan was so impressed by his work. Khan later promoted
him to an official of the Privy Council and to a tax collector in Yanzhou. (Marco Polo

Food And Westernization In The Elephant Vanishes By
Haruki...
Haruki Murakami s The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of short stories, published
in 1993. Murakami is a Japanese author who has spent most of his life in the West.
His writing style is heavily influenced by his lifestyle and therefore he is not
considered to be a traditional Japanese author (Poole). The affects of westernization
on the characters can be evaluated from their conversations and relationships. There
is at least one Western component in each short story and it always has a relation to
the plotline or the characters. Food, arts and romantic relationships are the three main
motifs in which the affects of western elements can be seen. Although these motifs
may not have a direct affect on the actions of the characters, there is always... Show

In almost every story, there is a romantic relationship between the characters. This
relationship is usually sexual and seems to be at the center of the plotline. It is not
very common for Japanese people to be so open about sexual relationships, but in
The Elephant Vanishes, Murakami portrays characters, which are very exposed
about their romantic relationships. In The Wind Up Bird and Tuesday s Woman ,
the narrator receives a call from an anonymous woman. Although he first refuses to
talk to the woman, he ends up having phone sex with her. I m in bed right now the
woman says. I just took a shower and have nothing on . The fact that the woman is
so open to have a sexual conversation with the narrator reflects the traces of
westernization. On the other hand, the fact that the narrator is not so comfortable
with the situation he is in fulfills the reader s expectations of a traditional Japanese
plotline. A romantic relationship is present in almost every story and has a great
influence on the way the story unfolds by shaping the flow of the conversations. In
Family Affair , the narrator is very exposed about his sex life, while his sister is not
so comfortable talking about sexual relationships. Once again, there is a conflict
originated from the differentiation of two cultures. In this case, the narrator represents
a westernized, modern mind while his sister is a model for a traditional Japanese
mindset.
The Lewis Model By Richard Lewis
Another relevant cultural model which may offer insight to businesses interested in
expanding operations in different countries is the Lewis Model (Figure 6). Richard
Lewis is a linguist cultural consultant who is best known as the founder of the
Berlitz School of Languages ( Richard D. Lewis , n.d.). Notably, Mr. Lewis has a
unique understanding of Japanese Culture having spent several years living in Japan,
where he was the personal tutor to Empress Michiko and five other members of the
Japanese Imperial family ( Richard Lewis , 2015). Cultural behavior is the end
product of collected wisdom, filtered and passed down through hundreds of
generations as shared core beliefs, value assumptions, notions and persistent action
patterns. In other words, culture is a collective programming of the mind, that
distinguishes the members of one human group from another (Lewis, 2006).
However, there is an inherent danger of stereotyping associated with each of these
cultural models. As Lewis wrote, Determining national characteristics is treading a
minefield of inaccurate assessment and surprising exception. There is, however, such
a thing as a national norm (Lewis). The Lewis Model suggests the culture, national
norm, of every country falls into one of three distinct categories: Linear Active, Multi
active or Reactive. In this model, the Japanese culture is categorized as reactive,
which suggests they are a listening culture. Reactive cultures are those who

What Women Want, They Get Women used to be thought of as the stay at home

women have become more independent and now have a say in the government if
they choose too. The movie Iron Jawed Angels depicts a group of women who

Why Nursing Home
What would I want from a nursing home if I were to become a resident? To begin
with, I realize that nursing homes work within clearly set boundaries of law and
standards of medical practices; Therefore they are only so flexible with the patients,
doing their best most times to make sure that everyone is treated fairly by following
required guidelines. Even at that, once in a while, there are instants where things do
not go as planned and some residents get abused. Mainly because the people that
work in close collaboration with the residentsare not always a good fit for the

Integrated Management Of The Supply Chain
1 INTRODUCTION
The integrated management of the supply chain is a topic that is becoming more
important in the business world, given its importance, conjurations and development
of enterprise networks. Which is why, today is the underlying logic of the structure of
dynamic alignment ca, companies need to be integrated with your customers or
markets in the context of a prevailing operating environment. The power of this
structure rests on its ability to reveal the interaction between customer needs, helping
to formulate appropriate response strategies, and then the successful implementation
of these strategies by the relevant leadership, through the formation of cultural
capacities internal, by raising awareness of the fundamental needs of customers and
their buying behavior already dominant is necessary, as well as reducing delivery

Tkam Character Analysis
The Chosen, By Chaim Potok is an interesting and thought provoking read, yet the
moral ideas and thought provoking actions of the characters in To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee, will leave a lasting impact on one s life. Throughout
both novels characters are forced to make important decisions and difficult choices.
The 2nd novelmentioned, To Kill a Mockingbird, stands out among the two due to the
type of moral choices expressed, the way that the book connects the reader with the
characters, and the many well written plottwists and story lines. The Chosen has most
of these attributes as well, yet the author did not express them nearly as well as the
author of the other novel. Both novels are marvelously written and carry important
lessons. The lessons of TKAM were more interesting however, and connected the

Moral choices in TKAM are seemingly more relevant than those of The Chosen
however, playing a larger role and occurring more often in day to day life.
Throughout TKAM the characters are forced to make choices such as, risking their
life for someone else s, helping someone who is despised by the community, and
backing down instead of lashing out. All of these important decisions occur during
today s era and this book gives important insight on how to decide what to do when
faced with said decisions. The Chosen includes many of these decisions as well, yet
the characters are faced with them in a more foreign situation than that of the
characters In TKAM. All of these moral decisions faced by the characters in the novel
would not be nearly as meaningful if the reader were not able to connect with the
characters and understand their thought
Prepositions Essay
Prepositions are words that establish relationships between words in a sentence or
phrase. Except for the prepositions a and de that are contracted when used with the
article el , prepositions are invariable. Spanish sentences never end in a preposition.
It is placed before an object which can be a noun, a verb used as a noun, or a pronoun.
Spanish prepositions are used in the same way that English prepositions are used but
it can be tricky to translate prepositions literally as each preposition can mean
differently on either language depending on the context of the sentence.
Here is a list of the most common Spanish prepositions:

In general, Spanish conjunctions work in similar manner as English conjunctions.
There are two categories of conjunctions: the coordinating and subordinating

Prejudice And Racism In The United States
As an American, freedom and equality are two fundamental values. It s been laid out
in the constitution and constantly reiterated throughout our years of education which
makes it only right that each individual is treated with respect and given a fair
opportunity. This brings us to the question of why racismstill exists? There is no
reason for this but instead poor justifications used to give people in power an
excuse to treat people of color with less respect. Donald Trump for example, does
the opposite of promoting a racially equal society which triggers many, calling for
protests. The national anthem protest, specifically taking a knee, was started by
former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last season. He took a knee during the

While white privilege is beneficial to some, it is also very damaging. This can lead
to colorblindness and believing that everyone has an equal opportunity despite the
fact that some have had extra support. This is why many middle class Americans
don t donate to the homeless on the street because they feel as if they screwed up
in life and haven t been working as hard as everyone else around them. Not only is it
a matter of unfair treatment towards people of color, it s become even more of a
problem when innocent minorities are being killed by the police for no reason,
especially blacks. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he believes players should
stand, but he also said he doesn t feel players are trying to be disrespectful to the
flag (Garcia 2018). The league went on to say it is doing the hard work of trying to
move from protest to progress, working to bring people together (Brennan 2017).
This is not a protest against America but instead a protest for progress towards a

Death and Rebirth of Traditional Family Values
A family is a group of individuals related by blood, marriage, or adoption. Most
people are familiar with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a
postmodern family is becoming more and more common. A nuclear family consists of
two parents and children. The nuclear family was long held by society as being the
ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of one parent
raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities
in many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and

Political values are following the law and respecting those who inforce it. Religious
values center on the expectations people have about themselves and others based on
the beliefs of their faith. Work values include such things as your philosophies about

individual values about what you believe is right or wrong. Recreational values refer
to anything that involves fun or play. An example would be allowing each family
member to pursue individual interests.

Power Circuits Of Electric Power
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Research Background
Power electronics circuits convert electric power from one form to other using
electronic devices. By using semiconductor devices as switches power electronics
circuits function, thereby controlling or modifying a voltage or current. Power
electronics application range from high power conversion equipment such as dc
power transmission to everyday appliances, such as cell phone chargers, cordless
screwdrivers, power supplies for computers, and hybrid automobiles. Power
electronics includes applications in which circuits process miliwatts or megawatts.
Power electronics include conversion of an unregulated dc voltage to a regulated dc
voltage conversion of ac to dc, conversion of dc to ac, and conversion of an ac
power source from one amplitude and frequency to another amplitude and frequency.
These power converters are classified as rectifiers, AC voltage controllers, DC
choppers and inverters, which covers wide area of residential, commercial and
industrial applications, including computers, transportation and power utilizes [1].
Power electronic converters, especially DC/AC inverters have been extending their
range of use in industrial application because they provide better system efficiency,
reduced energy consumption and improved quality of power. The output voltage of
inverter could be fixed or variable at a fixed or variable frequency and output
waveforms are therefore made up of discrete values, producing fast transition
Risk Management Plan of Walmart
Risk Management Discuss the approach your organisation used to manage its new
initiatives especially new product developments. Wal Mart has a unique enterprise
risk management (ERM) plan that was developed internally in the 1990 s that
includes five steps. These five steps are (Atkinson, 2005): Step One Risk
Identification Step Two Risk Mitigation Step Three Action Planning Step Four
Performance Metrics Step Five Shareholder Value/Return on Investment The first
step is to identify the risk. In some cases this can be a difficult task; especially when
the risk stems from the external environment. There are many tools that can help
organizations to help identify potential risks. Once the risk is identified then the next
step that Wal Mart uses is to try to determine possible courses that would allow them
to mitigate the risk. Not all risks are easy to mitigate. For example, external risks
such as a recession might be difficult to mitigate for nearly any organization. Once the
possible risk mitigations strategies are compiled then the next step is to create an
action plan in which puts into action the different mitigation strategies. The next step
is to determine if the plan worked or not. Thus performance metrics have to be
constructed to determine the effectiveness of the action plan. Finally, the last step
that Wal Mart conducts is to use the financial tools to determine how it will affect the
shareholders. Discuss how your organisation evaluates projects

Continuity In Run Lola Run
Run Lola Run (1998) is a visually stunning German film that carries out three
different scenarios of the same plot that in which display the power of consequence
of any action at any moment in time. While the film itself is complex due to its
multiple retellings of the same story, director Tom Tykwer successfully creates a
logical coherence between each scene and scenario through his use of temporal
continuity editing.
According to the course textbook The Film Experience: An Introduction, continuity
editing is a system that uses cuts and transitions to establish verisimilitude , or a
sense of truth for viewers. Spatial continuity involves a scene being presented in a
way that presents logical spatial cues for the viewer. Temporal continuity is similar
but involves time rather than space. While there are various moments of spatial
continuity, Run Lola Run primarily relies on temporality. Tykwer is able to maintain
a coherent narrative despite the chaos that occurs within the film simply because the
entire film focuses on time as a catalyst for action.
[This] film is ideal for showing alternate and parallel time lines, as reviewed by
notable film critic Roger Ebert. Run Lola Run is a story about a woman named Lola
(Franka Potente) who has twenty minutes to collect money for her boyfriend Manni
(Moritz Bleibtreu), who may get into trouble after losing a large amount of his boss
money . Lola s twenty minute run to save Manni is shown in three scenarios, each

The American Dream Is A Flawed Concept
The American Dream is a flawed concept, a deceptive motivator, which promotes
fantasy and unrealistic capitalist goals (ideals) of success, while disregarding the
immense costs. The American Dream, conceptualized among early American
frontiersmen deeply impacted societal thinking and motivation. America meant more
. More ideas, more possibilities, more space, more land, and finally, more success.
This conceptis timeless for Americans and aspiring American citizens. The American
Dream can be broken down into two pieces, the illusion and reality of the dream. The
white picket fence, a classic symbol which represents the American Dream of
owning private (protected) property and raising a family, was an expensive
decoration during the colonial era, which many Americans desired. This symbol was
maintained through early cinema and advertisements and is well known
internationally as a symbol for new opportunity in America. This is the illusion of the
American Dream. The financial success required to purchase this dream home is far
more expensive than it looks. The Average price of a home in the United Stateswas
$361,600 in July 2015 (U.S. Census), while the average household income of 2013
was only $52,250. Some may think highly of this number, however, it is far from
being close enough to afford an average home. This is the painful reality of the
American Dream. For most people, in order to obtain this dream, one has to enter the
workforce and dream of promotion, getting
Forced Vital Capacity Case Study
Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on
forced vital capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and
torso/height ratio on forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in
looking at the largest amount of air a person can forcefully exhale and continue
exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as a person can. If gender has an
effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC of females. If
there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will
FVC. If there is a correlation between torso length and FVC then the longer a torso
the greater the FVC will be. If there is a correlation between torso/height ratio and
FVC then the greater... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

very weak correlation between FVC and torso
Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned
Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across
the border with Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest
in the United States with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas
laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to
$2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months. So why does
Texastake a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing
money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are
going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground.
Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and
policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The
beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso
(Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale
of the plant, but then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and
terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good.
Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the
substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico
will come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time
marijuana use was prevalent in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans
but nobody gave it any
Financial Performance Of The Companies Within Your

For the companies within your industry, conduct the following analysis of the
financial performance of each person s firm within the industry. Then, the group
compares the firms to each other. This should cover the most recent (FY 2005 2014)
period. 1. Provide inventory for each firm over the period. What is the percent change
in both ending inventoryand COGS each year relative to the overall percent change in
sales?

each quarter. How do these change during the 10 year period? What does this mean?

This means that in the second quarter of each year Cabela s sell its inventory at a
slower rate than the rest of the quarters. The Day s Held ratio calculates how long it
takes a company turn inventory into sales. Cabela s sells mostly goods that are non
perishable, meaning that their goods can last in their shelves much longer. For
Cabela s there is a continuous pattern showing their days held in inventory ratio
being much lower in the 4th quarter of each year. This may be due to consumers
purchasing gifts for the holiday season.
Dick s Sporting Goods
Dick s Sportings goods saw relative increases in both their inventory and COGS
over the period. Their inventory percentage change/overall sales change for the
period, and their COGS percentage change/overall sales change for the period
experienced very similar fluctuations across the period. Both ratios saw a sharp
decline from 2006 2007, indicating the time of the recession. The inventory %
change ratio even dropped to 2.3%. Since 2008, both ratios have seen minor
increases and decreases. Dick s sporting goods inventory turnover ratio increased by
an overall percent of 8.82%. This means that the company is 8.82% better (quicker) at
selling its inventory after they have purchased it. They seem to have their highest
turnover ratios in the fourth quarter of every year. Their most recent inventory
turnover ratio is 3.7x, with a DIO (Days in Inventory Ratio) of 97.8 days. This

Essay about Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome

Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered
the syndrome in 1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s
causes and it?s cures. But one of the biggest mysteries is an associated behavior
called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled swearing or socially unacceptable
utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite the media?s
fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be.
This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal
tics. The identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief,
repetitive, purposeless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the
most commonly recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette
they automatically assume the random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare
symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general public associates most often
with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41).
It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated
5 30% as reported by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the
coming on of an inappropriate word as hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it
coming on but are unable to control it even with medication (Michigan 1). One of
the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply swearing is that
words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they
are just under stress (Kozlowski 1).
Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors.
The understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999
researchers announced that they had found evidence suggesting a link between
chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly identified gene to
date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the
child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth
Bruun indicated a tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in
Story Of An Hour Summary
In The Autonomous Female Self and the Death of Louise Mallard in Kate Chopin
s Story of an Hour, Mark Cunningham expresses his opinion on how he believes
Mrs. Mallard dies in Chopin s short story. The Story of an Hour was written in the
late 1890s, during a time when it was controversial for women to be independent.
The ending of her story has created somewhat of a dilemma among readers for
years. Some people conclude one ending based on the details and clues Chopin wrote
throughout the story, while others come up with a totally different opinion. Mark
Cunningham writes a brilliant article on his view of the story s ending, where he
clearly conveys his take on Louis Mallard s death. Although there are many times
when he repeats the same information, Cunningham makes good use of textual
evidence and authorities, as well as logic, which makes it easy to agree with his
claim. Cunningham s beliefon how the story ended varies from many other critic s
opinions. He points out how a great amount of readers believe the death of Mrs.
Mallard was caused by her seeing Mr. Mallard walk through the door of their
house, after receiving the news of his death in a train accident (par. 1). However,
Cunningham states he does not believe Louise Mallard even saw Brently Mallard at
all, and the cause of death was not from the shock of seeing him. In fact, he claims, I
believe that Louise does not see him... cause of her death lies elsewhere: in the joy...

Pluto Personal Statement
As a lover for science, I fled with joy when I found out that I was born on the same
month the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered. I have always been an enthusiast for
art and science, especially Astronomy; it is a study that I was fascinated with. I
believe that determination and perfectionism is important, and I am not the type of
person who gives up on what they want easily so I was hard to satisfy, however, I
learned to embrace that aspect of me and since then have always been trying my best
to succeed and learn from my mistakes.
Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to become a mosaic scientist; I loved
the idea of collecting rocks and create images with them. However, as I grew older,

The Breakdown Of The Atomic Energy Act Of 1946
The Atomic Energy Act of 1946 was the spark of the nation s most radical law
relating to production, patents and control of information in response to this
glooming energy crisis. Public safety becomes the main written priority in the
development of the Atomic Energy Act. However, flaws began to emerge within the
plan: inconsistencies disturb the private patent investors. This puts the nation s
economic stability at risk. There were possible emergences of monopolistic power

public interest objective, their secrecy led to possible questions about the Act2. Due
to massive rise of concerns about the future of the United States, the government

section{Vanilla options}
The following section illustrates the empirical results of the above mentioned options
pricing techniques for one sample, consisting of 20 American put options, referred to
as small sample. Moreover, the comparison of the number of polynomial families, as
well as the contrast between regression methods are conducted.
section{Small sample results}
The analysis starts with the valuation of 20 American put options with the same set of
parameters usually considered in the literature, implemented by Longstaff and
Schwartz as well. The following Table 4.1 presents the results of pricing estimation of
20 options resulting from the combination of the following parameters:

The strike price for all options was considered to be $K = 40$, the risk free interest
rate $r = 6%$ and the dividend yield $delta = 0$. The simulation was performed
with 100,000 paths, with 50 time steps per year and three weighted Laguerre
Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez
To be an ethnic American is a culture all on its own. Hunger of memory by Richard
RodrГguez gives an insight into the rarely viewed world. A person that no longer
falls into either category of family or American community. Such an individual is
stuck between two worlds, in which two different cultures collide yet form a rift
through family, language and education. Family is the first thing anybody grows to
know. You become familiarized with the traditions and the people of the unit. In the
case of an ethnic family living and growing up in the United States, the unit should be
a more joint and stronger community within, and set apart from the rest with its own
uniqueness. There should also be a security and comfort entering the home. Yet
through the book you begin to see a fissure opening more and more thus separating
Richard from his family as he begin to venture out into the gringo community.
Suddenly the comfort felt in the home diminishes and it becomes awkward. The
unity you could sense seems to be no longer present and silence falls over. The
community built in order to keep the gringos out is no longer there. In the case of
Richard this begins with the start of the path of his education.
In Hunger of Memory Richard talks about the separation that occurs with him and his
family as his education unfolds. How he became a scholarship boy changes
everything. His journey, like most ethnic/ Latino families, began his first years in
school. There he is still an outcast,
Pathophysiology Of Dementia And Alzheimer s Disease
Pathophysiology: Dementia Dementia, also known as Alzheimer s disease (AD),
is a progressive, chronic, and degenerative. 60% of dementia occurs in people over
the age of 65. Dementia causes loss of judgment, memory, change in personality,
and visuospatial perception. Severe cognitive impairment can occur over time, as
well as physical deterioration and death. The brain changes in size and weight as a
person ages. There is also a narrowing of the gyri, enlargement of the ventricles, and
widening of the cerebral sulci. In AD, these changes are accelerated, causing issues
such as atrophy of the cerebral cortex and loss of cortical neurons. In addition, the
pre central gyrus of the frontal lobe, superior temporal gyrus, hippocampus, and
substantia nigra are all affected. Changes in neurofibrillary tangles (tangled masses of
fibrous tissue throughout the neurons) , amyloid rich senile or neuritic plague
(degenerating nerve terminals in the hippocampus which contain proteins that form
neurotoxic plague in the brain) and granulovascular degeneration can all occur as
well. Though the exact cause of AD is unknown, possible factors of cognitive
impairment in older adults include neurologic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic,
psychological, environmental causes, nutritional deficiencies, and drug toxicity.
Signs Symptoms: Alzheimer Disease is staged based on symptoms. Early (Mild) or
Stage I can last up to 4 years. Middle (Moderate) or Stage II can last 2 3
Strengths Of Steganography
Abstract Steganography is a technique of hiding the secret information.
Steganography hides the existence of the secret data and make the communication
undetectable. Secret data can be communicated in an appropriate multimedia carrier
such as image, audio or video. Image steganography is extensively used technique. In
this technique secret data is embedded within the image. Steganographytechniques
can be categorized into two groups adaptive and non adaptive. Each of these have its
strengths and weaknesses. Adaptive steganography embeds the secret information in
the image by adapting some of the local features of the image. Non adaptive
steganography embeds secret data equally in each and every pixel of the image.
Several techniques have been proposed for hiding the... Show more content on

Still, message transmissions over the Internet need to face a few issues, for example,
copyright control, information security, and so on. Consequently we need secure
secret specialized strategies for transmitting message over the Internet. Encryption is
a surely understood strategy for security insurance, which alludes to the process of
encoding secret data in such an approach, that just the person with the right key can
effectively decode it. In any case, encryption makes the message unreadable, and
making message sufficiently suspicious to pull eavesdroppers consideration. Another
approach to tackle this issue is to conceal the mystery data behind a cover with the
goal that it draws no extraordinary consideration. This strategy of data security is

Dgs Is More Advantageous Than Pbg Or Ebg Structures
DGS is more advantageous than PBG or EBG structures:
(1) For implementing EBG structures, a very large area is required to implement
the periodic pattern and it is also very difficult to define the unit element of EBG
structure whereas DGS structures has properties similar to EBG and the geometry
of DGS can be one or very few etched structures which is very simpler and also does
not require large area for implementation of it.
(2) DGS can be easily designed and implemented. It has higher precision with
rectangular shaped defect structures. Therefore it is very good option to extend its
practical applications. In my project, I have designed and simulated microstrip patch
antenna at operating frequency 2.4GHz using HFSS software .It has Substrate (FR4)
having dielectric constants of 4.4.I have designed single patch antenna without DGS,
2x1 array antenna and 4x1 array antenna without DGS ,4x1 array antenna with DGS
(Dumbbell shaped , Double Circular shaped, E shaped) and analyze the results. I
analyze that I god improved results in 4x1 array antenna configuration with E shaped
DGS structure in terms of Voltage Standing Wave Ratioof 1.12, Return loss of 22.12

The Italic script was used in creating colonial American and British records. The
Italic script is a semi cursive script that is slightly sloped. It was introduced in Italy
in the 1420 s by Niccolo Niccoli. Italic script is also known as Chancery Cursive. He
found that writing in the current Humanist Minuscule handwriting took too long.
Therefore, he created the Italic script which was quicker to write due to its oblique
forms, fewer strokes per character, and the joining of letters. It was promoted as an

Essay on Class Distinctions in America
The ideal concept of American society is one in which all of the citizens are
treated equal in all every realm and situation. Class, race or gender does not divide
the utopian America; everyone is afforded the same opportunities and chances for
success. In this chimerical state Americans are able to go as far as their dreams
allow and with hard work and perseverance any thing is possible. Many Americans
subscribe to this pluralist view of the Country, believing that within our democratic

(27) There is a demarcation between the classes beginning with the rich elite, the
upper upper class and the lower upper class. Those with inherited wealth are placed
above those with self earned wealth while those with great wealth are distinguished
from those with a moderate amount of wealth. They are stable within their ranks, not
dependent upon the economic climate of the country to sustain their positions. The
upper middle class belongs to those people who are doing well and whose position
also is not likely to change with the economic climate of the country. The middle
class is comprised of people who are relatively comfortable and can afford a
minimal number of luxuries. The working class can afford very few luxuries and
are just getting by. Their position, like the middle class is subject to change with
socio economic changes in the country. The working poor cannot actually make ends
meet and often become displaced workers with the ability to plummet down into the
lowest class. They are not usually able to access the minimal comforts of the
working class. The Underclass is a desperate position whose ranks lead substandard
lives with no amenities and little chance for mobility.
People are keenly aware of their class status, perhaps not in terms of the specific
categories but they instinctively know that in relationship to others whether they are
a part of the upper, middle or lower classes

Essay World Peace. Persuasive Essay: Persuasive essay about world peace

  • 1. Essay World Peace Writing an essay on the concept of global peace is no easy feat. It's not just about stringing together eloquent words; it's about delving deep into a complex topic that encompasses political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions. Firstly, defining what "peace" means in a global context is a challenge in itself. Is it merely the absence of war and conflict, or does it extend to broader notions of social justice, equality, and human rights? This ambiguity necessitates thorough research and critical thinking to arrive at a nuanced understanding. Secondly, analyzing the factors that contribute to or hinder global peace requires navigating through a labyrinth of historical events, geopolitical dynamics, and cultural intricacies. From examining the role of superpowers and international institutions to understanding the impact of colonial legacies and ideological divides, the breadth of information to consider is staggering. Furthermore, proposing viable solutions for achieving and sustaining world peace demands creativity and pragmatism. It's not enough to idealize lofty aspirations; one must also grapple with the practical challenges of implementation amidst competing interests and power struggles. Moreover, addressing the skeptics who argue against the feasibility of global peace necessitates constructing compelling arguments backed by empirical evidence and logical reasoning. Balancing optimism with realism is crucial to crafting a persuasive and credible essay. In essence, tackling the topic of global peace in an essay requires a multi-faceted approach that combines rigorous research, analytical thinking, persuasive writing, and a deep understanding of the complexities inherent in human societies. It's a daunting task that demands intellectual rigor and creativity. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net. Essay World Peace Essay World Peace

  • 4. Critical Thinking In Nursing In the field of nursing, critical thinking is practiced persistently, and every day nursing interactions act as a whetstone for the critical mind. Authors, Elaine Simpson RN and Mary Courtney RN state ...critical thinking is not a method to be learned, but rather a process, an orientation of the mind, and includes both the cognitive and affective domains of reasoning. (Simpson Courtney, 2002). In other words, critical thought is a skill acquired through experience; in this instance, it is gained from clinical practice. I envision myself using critical thinking when assessing my clients, administering medication, enacting physician orders, and reviewing nursing recommendations. Lipman s idea of critical thinking is dependent on criteria, receptive of context, and is self correcting. Similarly, I believe that critical thinking is judgement, specific to the current situation, that has substance based upon the principles used to critique it. Put another way, critical thinking depends on standards to guide its solution or response; these standards include clarity, relevance, accuracy, fairness, completeness, precision, depth, breadth, and adequacy. (Jones, Elizabeth A.|Ratcliff, 1993). I also believe that critical thinking is self correcting, because it is based in logic and reasoning; vague solutions will always exist, but a sharp critical thinker will always find the correct answer through the precise application of reasoning. Critical thinking is used in every
  • 5. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol... Analysis of The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society In the essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society written by Jonathan Kozol and originally published in the book, Illiterate America , is a bundle of examples of how people who are illiterate live every day. It showcases the hardships they go through, and how much of a problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate, and how many become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the strategies of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few times in this essay. The main bulk of it is towards the beginning, when Kozol states a few statistics about illiterate citizens in the United States, The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast of the winner in the 1980 presidential contest...So long as 60 million people are denied significant participation, the government is neither of, not for, nor by, the people (2). Kozol s main argument is how the current status of illiterate Americans is a huge problem that we need to address, and the previous quote from the text was his way of using logos to get us to think about the exact

  • 8. The Colonization Of Virginia And William Shakespeare s The... In the 1600s, many countries separately set out in exploration for several reasons: for religious expansion and freedom, for the establishment of new land in order to accommodate for growing populations, and for an ultimate economic opportunity. While this allowed for the expansion of civilization and ideas that ultimately led to the creation of the United States, it came at the cost of the abuse and exploitation of entire populations of natives that sometimes led to their complete erasure. The natives of the land, presently known as America, claimed they were subject to these horrors for no more of a reason than fun and the benefit of the incoming colonists as a labor source. However, many colonists convey these experiences with a sort of justification that these natives were, in reality, uncivilized savages who failed to succumb to their wishes of adhering to their culture. These adverse accounts of the growth of the colonies are still heavily debated today due to the lack of truth and bias that exists within the written evidence provided by both sides. While colonist views are challenged in William Shakespeare s The Tempestby expressing the natives in a sympathetic light, it is clearly reflected in John Smith s General History of Virginia and A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson through the representation of natives as sadistic and inhumane creatures. Despite the differing accounts on both sides, it is fairly universal that the natives

Murakami is a Japanese author who has spent most of his life in the West. His writing style is heavily influenced by his lifestyle and therefore he is not considered to be a traditional Japanese author (Poole). The affects of westernization on the characters can be evaluated from their conversations and relationships. There is at least one Western component in each short story and it always has a relation to the plotline or the characters. Food, arts and romantic relationships are the three main motifs in which the affects of western elements can be seen. Although these motifs may not have a direct affect on the actions of the characters, there is always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In almost every story, there is a romantic relationship between the characters. This relationship is usually sexual and seems to be at the center of the plotline. It is not very common for Japanese people to be so open about sexual relationships, but in The Elephant Vanishes, Murakami portrays characters, which are very exposed about their romantic relationships. In The Wind Up Bird and Tuesday s Woman , the narrator receives a call from an anonymous woman. Although he first refuses to talk to the woman, he ends up having phone sex with her. I m in bed right now the woman says. I just took a shower and have nothing on . The fact that the woman is so open to have a sexual conversation with the narrator reflects the traces of westernization. On the other hand, the fact that the narrator is not so comfortable with the situation he is in fulfills the reader s expectations of a traditional Japanese plotline. A romantic relationship is present in almost every story and has a great influence on the way the story unfolds by shaping the flow of the conversations. In Family Affair , the narrator is very exposed about his sex life, while his sister is not so comfortable talking about sexual relationships. Once again, there is a conflict originated from the differentiation of two cultures. In this case, the narrator represents a westernized, modern mind while his sister is a model for a traditional Japanese mindset.

Richard Lewis is a linguist cultural consultant who is best known as the founder of the Berlitz School of Languages ( Richard D. Lewis , n.d.). Notably, Mr. Lewis has a unique understanding of Japanese Culture having spent several years living in Japan, where he was the personal tutor to Empress Michiko and five other members of the Japanese Imperial family ( Richard Lewis , 2015). Cultural behavior is the end product of collected wisdom, filtered and passed down through hundreds of generations as shared core beliefs, value assumptions, notions and persistent action patterns. In other words, culture is a collective programming of the mind, that distinguishes the members of one human group from another (Lewis, 2006). However, there is an inherent danger of stereotyping associated with each of these cultural models. As Lewis wrote, Determining national characteristics is treading a minefield of inaccurate assessment and surprising exception. There is, however, such a thing as a national norm (Lewis). The Lewis Model suggests the culture, national norm, of every country falls into one of three distinct categories: Linear Active, Multi active or Reactive. In this model, the Japanese culture is categorized as reactive, which suggests they are a listening culture. Reactive cultures are those who

By using semiconductor devices as switches power electronics circuits function, thereby controlling or modifying a voltage or current. Power electronics application range from high power conversion equipment such as dc power transmission to everyday appliances, such as cell phone chargers, cordless screwdrivers, power supplies for computers, and hybrid automobiles. Power electronics includes applications in which circuits process miliwatts or megawatts. Power electronics include conversion of an unregulated dc voltage to a regulated dc voltage conversion of ac to dc, conversion of dc to ac, and conversion of an ac power source from one amplitude and frequency to another amplitude and frequency. These power converters are classified as rectifiers, AC voltage controllers, DC choppers and inverters, which covers wide area of residential, commercial and industrial applications, including computers, transportation and power utilizes [1]. Power electronic converters, especially DC/AC inverters have been extending their range of use in industrial application because they provide better system efficiency, reduced energy consumption and improved quality of power. The output voltage of inverter could be fixed or variable at a fixed or variable frequency and output waveforms are therefore made up of discrete values, producing fast transition

These five steps are (Atkinson, 2005): Step One Risk Identification Step Two Risk Mitigation Step Three Action Planning Step Four Performance Metrics Step Five Shareholder Value/Return on Investment The first step is to identify the risk. In some cases this can be a difficult task; especially when the risk stems from the external environment. There are many tools that can help organizations to help identify potential risks. Once the risk is identified then the next step that Wal Mart uses is to try to determine possible courses that would allow them to mitigate the risk. Not all risks are easy to mitigate. For example, external risks such as a recession might be difficult to mitigate for nearly any organization. Once the possible risk mitigations strategies are compiled then the next step is to create an action plan in which puts into action the different mitigation strategies. The next step is to determine if the plan worked or not. Thus performance metrics have to be constructed to determine the effectiveness of the action plan. Finally, the last step that Wal Mart conducts is to use the financial tools to determine how it will affect the shareholders. Discuss how your organisation evaluates projects

While the film itself is complex due to its multiple retellings of the same story, director Tom Tykwer successfully creates a logical coherence between each scene and scenario through his use of temporal continuity editing. According to the course textbook The Film Experience: An Introduction, continuity editing is a system that uses cuts and transitions to establish verisimilitude , or a sense of truth for viewers. Spatial continuity involves a scene being presented in a way that presents logical spatial cues for the viewer. Temporal continuity is similar but involves time rather than space. While there are various moments of spatial continuity, Run Lola Run primarily relies on temporality. More ideas, more possibilities, more space, more land, and finally, more success. This conceptis timeless for Americans and aspiring American citizens. This means that in the second quarter of each year Cabela s sell its inventory at a slower rate than the rest of the quarters. The Day s Held ratio calculates how long it takes a company turn inventory into sales. Cabela s sells mostly goods that are non perishable, meaning that their goods can last in their shelves much longer. For Cabela s there is a continuous pattern showing their days held in inventory ratio being much lower in the 4th quarter of each year. This may be due to consumers purchasing gifts for the holiday season. Dick s Sporting Goods Dick s Sportings goods saw relative increases in both their inventory and COGS over the period. Their inventory percentage change/overall sales change for the period, and their COGS percentage change/overall sales change for the period experienced very similar fluctuations across the period. Since 2008, both ratios have seen minor increases and decreases. Dick s sporting goods inventory turnover ratio increased by an overall percent of 8.82%. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of the biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be. This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ... When most think of Tourette they automatically assume the random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41). It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are just under stress (Kozlowski 1). Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in
  • 29. Story Of An Hour Summary In The Autonomous Female Self and the Death of Louise Mallard in Kate Chopin s Story of an Hour, Mark Cunningham expresses his opinion on how he believes Mrs. Mallard dies in Chopin s short story. The Story of an Hour was written in the late 1890s, during a time when it was controversial for women to be independent. The ending of her story has created somewhat of a dilemma among readers for years. Some people conclude one ending based on the details and clues Chopin wrote throughout the story, while others come up with a totally different opinion. Mark Cunningham writes a brilliant article on his view of the story s ending, where he clearly conveys his take on Louis Mallard s death. Although there are many times when he repeats the same information, Cunningham makes good use of textual evidence and authorities, as well as logic, which makes it easy to agree with his claim. Cunningham s beliefon how the story ended varies from many other critic s opinions. He points out how a great amount of readers believe the death of Mrs. Mallard was caused by her seeing Mr. Mallard walk through the door of their house, after receiving the news of his death in a train accident (par. 1). However, Cunningham states he does not believe Louise Mallard even saw Brently Mallard at all, and the cause of death was not from the shock of seeing him. In fact, he claims, I believe that Louise does not see him... cause of her death lies elsewhere: in the joy... more monstrous than Louise seems

You become familiarized with the traditions and the people of the unit. In the case of an ethnic family living and growing up in the United States, the unit should be a more joint and stronger community within, and set apart from the rest with its own uniqueness. There should also be a security and comfort entering the home. Yet through the book you begin to see a fissure opening more and more thus separating Richard from his family as he begin to venture out into the gringo community. Suddenly the comfort felt in the home diminishes and it becomes awkward. The unity you could sense seems to be no longer present and silence falls over. The community built in order to keep the gringos out is no longer there. In the case of Richard this begins with the start of the path of his education. In Hunger of Memory Richard talks about the separation that occurs with him and his family as his education unfolds. How he became a scholarship boy changes everything. Pathophysiology Of Dementia And Alzheimer s Disease Pathophysiology: Dementia Dementia, also known as Alzheimer s disease (AD), is a progressive, chronic, and degenerative. 60% of dementia occurs in people over the age of 65. Dementia causes loss of judgment, memory, change in personality, and visuospatial perception. Severe cognitive impairment can occur over time, as well as physical deterioration and death. The brain changes in size and weight as a person ages. There is also a narrowing of the gyri, enlargement of the ventricles, and widening of the cerebral sulci. In AD, these changes are accelerated, causing issues such as atrophy of the cerebral cortex and loss of cortical neurons. In addition, the pre central gyrus of the frontal lobe, superior temporal gyrus, hippocampus, and substantia nigra are all affected. Changes in neurofibrillary tangles (tangled masses of fibrous tissue throughout the neurons) , amyloid rich senile or neuritic plague (degenerating nerve terminals in the hippocampus which contain proteins that form neurotoxic plague in the brain) and granulovascular degeneration can all occur as well. Though the exact cause of AD is unknown, possible factors of cognitive impairment in older adults include neurologic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, psychological, environmental causes, nutritional deficiencies, and drug toxicity. Signs Symptoms: Alzheimer Disease is staged based on symptoms. Early (Mild) or Stage I can last up to 4 years. Middle (Moderate) or Stage II can last 2 3
