Introduction: why does this matter? Origin story and meaning The Samoans are an
ethnic group that reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of
Polynesia. Samoa has been occupied by these indigenous people for about 3000
years, when they came from the west, occupying the islands of Fiji and Tonga
around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They carry many traditions with
their culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing. Tattooing is
the process of inserting ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent
design on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much more significant than just a pretty
piece of artwork, they are, according to Ryman (2004), a right of passage. I will be
reviewing the importance of cultural tattoos, the process of being tattooed, and the

Enzymes are catalytic proteins that act to speed up chemical reactions that occur in
our bodies and in the bodies of many other organisms by reducing the amount of
activation energy required in order for a reaction to occur. Without enzymes, the
chemical reactions that take place in all organisms would take place too slowly to
keep the organism alive. Since all enzymes are proteins, and protein s functions are
dependent on their structure, enzymes require certain conditions to maintain their

and consuming foods are required for every individual as people need it to survive,
but too much can be taken in which then, results in harming the body. Desserts
such as cake and ice cream are sweet because they have a high concentration of
sugar. Sugar comes in many forms such as glucose, fructose, maltose, and
galactose. An important sugar, glucose, is made up of one sugar molecule.
Glucose stores ATP and uses it to maintain homeostasis. (Food Insight, 2015). ATP
is energy source and comes from in taking food. It is also a source of energy for
cells throughout the body. This energy helps the cells carry out metabolism,
synthesis of macromolecules, and active transport. (Live Strong, 2015). Glucose is
also needed to execute several functions of the human body, such as brain function
and regulation of food intake. When people intake sugars, their bodies break the
sugar down into glucose and too much glucose can harm the body resulting in
diabetes (Anderson et al, 2002). Diabetes is a major cause of kidney disease, non
traumatic lower limb amputations, heart disease, blindness, and stroke (American
