How Does Danforth Occur In The Crucible
The mass witch hysteria in Salem. Massachusetts, deteriorated the rational and emotional
stability of its citizens. The obvious breakdown in Salem s social order led to the tragedy in
which twenty innocent people were hanged on the accusation of witchcraft. At many points
throughout the play there were opportunities to stop the witch trials; however, one character in
particular prevented the crease in convictions. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Deputy
Governor Danforth is responsible for the tragedy in Salem. One of many reasons the witch trials
were able to continue was because of Judge Danforth s ignorance towards what was actually
going on in Salem. When Francis Nurse and John Proctor try to explain to him the girls are
deceiving him, he over rules their ideas by challenging And do you know that near to four
hundred are in the jails from Marblehead to Lynn, and upon my signature? (Miller 179).
Danforth is proud to say that he has put people in jail, put people to death for witchcraft because
his ignorance blocks him from seeing the evidence he is presented with is false. As well as being
exposed to false evidence, Judge Danforth also makes the claim that witchcraft cannot be
disproved; therefore the court has to rely solely on the girl s accusations. Danforth declares, But
witchcraft is ipso facto, on its face and by its nature, an invisible crime, is it not?... Show more

Not only was he ignorant to the girl s true intentions but he also abused his power and punished
anyone who spoke out against him. Many people died because of the failure to act and lack of
sanity this character presented. Overall, the witch trials in Salem Massachusetts 1692 could have
been put to an end long before so many innocent people died. If only people would have listened to
the real facts of what was actually going

Persuasive Essay On Why Zoos Are Bad For Animals
Zoos are bad for animals. Zoos are all around the world where people like to go to see animals many
people enjoy it, but are zoos really a good place? Zoos are not a healthy natural place for animals
to be kept. They are unhappy and they don t get to experience the natural life they were supposed
to live. Animals have families that the love and know just like humans do we re not put in cages
and separated from our families so why do we do it do animals. Zooare inhumane and ignorant to
animals in many ways they mistreat the animals.
When animals are taken from their natural habitat, they are placed in secluded cages where their
natural habitat is recreated, to the best of the zoo s abilities. However, certain aspects such as
ambient temperature in an animal s natural habitat cannot be recreated perfectly. Animals live
around the world for a reason, not to be taken away . The main reason is that their natural habitat is
associated with a particular climate and ecosystem is reliant upon all of the natural plants and
animals who also share that habitat. Nocturnal animals are those who sleep during the day and
forage during the night. When nocturnal animals are taken from their natural habitat and placed
inside of a zoo, with standard day time operating hours, it can be incredibly difficult for the ... Show

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Essay
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, designed by Frank Gehry, is an art museum belonging to the
Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain set on the edge of
the NerviГіn River. It first opened its doors in October of 1997 and features artwork by
predominantly Spanish artists. It is hailed as a spectacular representation of the Deconstructivity
movement and an architectural masterpiece. As it became a popular tourist attraction, drawing
visitors from around the world being once the city s main source of income.
The following question arises from the assentation: what exactly makes the Guggenheim Bilbao an
architectural masterpiece?
Between art and architecture, there is a lifelong bond. They are rather like light and shadow; one
cannot exist without the other. Even the word masterpiece , used here to describe something
architectural, holds a strong connotation with fine arts.
In the case of Gehry s Guggenheim museum Bilbao, the building is a three dimensional abstract
representation of something real in nature. It is mostly made up of organic curves and reflective
materials that reflect light and the free forms of nature. Whether it is viewed from the river, the
bridge, or the sky, the museum strongly resembles a lotus flower. It will obviously never be an
actual lotus flower, but Gehry designed it to look like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Essay About The Parthenon
The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of
the sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in
Greece. Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding
whether the sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they
came. The sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon,
created as a temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces
from this creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece,
and they should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was
not always a barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete
with houses and gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for
independence from Turkish rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian
Prince named Otto. He wanted to find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that
was starting anew at the end of the war. Because of this, the area around the Parthenon is now The
Acropolis hill, which is no longer a village, rather it is a hill with many monuments and sculptures

The Consumer Rights Of The Magna Carta
1. In addition to the basic consumer rights expressed in the consumer s Magna Carta, what other
expectations do you think consumer stakeholders have of business? The basic consumer rights
expressed in the Magna Carta include the right to safety; they want products to be free of
pesticides and the drugs we purchase and foods we consume are safe as well as product safety.
Secondly, there is the right to be informed, which refers to the right to know about a product, and
the use of a product, and this deals with advertisingand marketing. There is also the right to make
choices, meaning the competition makes sure there are other options available, and lastly, to be
heard, meaning consumers have the right to communicate with business concerning what they may
want in a product, and any complaints they may have about a product (Carroll, 2012, p. 392). In
addition to these rights, consumers demand fair value for money spent on a product; they also
expect a product to meet reasonable expectations, which means the product will as be safe, and
thoroughly tested according to regulation and if it is not safe, it should be taken off the market. In
addition, consumers expect complete disclosure of the descriptions and design of a product or
service, and that there is truth in advertisements (Carroll, 2012, p. 393).
2. What is your opinion of the consumerism movement? Is it alive and well or is it dead?
Provide evidence for your observations.
I feel consumerism is alive and well.

A Fellowship At Schaefer Centre Of Public Policy
It is with great enthusiasm that I apply for a fellowship at Schaefer Centre of Public Policy Insti at
the University of Baltimore. After researching a few universities, I found the university appealing
for its track record of academic excellence, mentorship and its proximity to Washington DC, the hub
of public policy. My inspiration to study public administration stems from, my vision to become an
agent of change, a change that will not only better the lives of women and children but, humanity
as a whole.Having lived and schooled in three different countries, I have seen firsthand the impact
of policyon the lives of citizens. In my own home country, public policy is the missing link in
growth and sustainable development. The breakdown of rule of law, absence of institutions and
absolute corruption has sent the economy to the grave. Zimbabwe, once the bread basket of Africa,
is now a dustbowl with over 13 million citizens surviving on international Aid. I am fully convinced
that, better standards of living, economic development, positive health outcomes and sustainable
development can only be achieved through effective policy formulation, implementation, and
administration.
The change Zimbabwe needs, demands knowledge and skill. A doctorate degree will give me
thorough understanding in the discourse of Public Administraion through, intergrating theory and

A Note On Leadership And Management Essay
Scenario 1: First, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the staff for your hard
work in our company. As you know, the business has wound down because of the recent sluggish
economy, and this would result in a workforce reduction. So, the board of directors and
management of the corporation have to make a difficult and challenging decision that we need
to lay 20% staff off to continue growing the company. We will consider carefully and make the
appropriate decision, and this layoff does not show that the listed people are not good. For the
recent cuts, we shall be pleased to offer any useful assistance to your prospective employer to
prove your ability and worth. Please let us know if you need any help, and thank you for your
contribution to our company. Scenario 2: Today, I want to share my perspectives on the topic of
leadership with you. As the pacesetter of a team, leader is an essential position that can direct,
manage, coordinate, and motivate the team in order to lead the team to glory. In addition, a leader
not only needs to be professional in the field, but also needs to balance the relationship between all
team members. A good leader needs to succeed the following qualities: Strong independent working

Nuclear War Research Paper
Instate violence has decreased in recent decades when it comes to nuclear war, but small arms war
is still wide spread. More wars have had the use of guns than the use of nuclear weapons. More
people have been killed in wars because of guns than because of nuclear weapons. However, more
people can be killed in an instant by nuclear weapons whereas when you use a gun, more people
can be killed in a span of a few months. It is also easier and cheaper to get a gun than it is to make
and use a nuclear weapon. Terrorists are scary with a gun or a box cutter, but imagining ISIS or Al
Qaeda with a nuclear weapon would cause the utmost terror across America.
Liberalists and their conflicts are driven by issues like scarcity and survivability. An example
would be Hugo Chavez s regime in Venezuela. They fight over access to resources or control of the
government. Realists believe that you cannot trust anyone in an anarchic society. Problems with
realistic theory lay on factors of offensive and defensive advantage and the ability to tell the
difference between those two. Some examples would be WWI and the use of the machine gun and
how no one would think that Canada and the United States ... Show more content on

Wars are usually fought for getting resources or based on ideologies or religion. Democratic
institutions may sway public opinion, but this still may not result in future wars. Domestic order is
in opposition to international anarchy and highlights the challenges facing international institutions.
We need to identify different domestic interests that value the cost of war differently. The
government itself can be an actor that can have interests in threatening or starting a war.
Democratic peace tries to explain that having a democratic world will result in less war, but that is
not true. Wars against democracies can be predicted by chance. An example of this would be the
American Civil War when democracies fought one

Winter s Bones Film Analysis
Winter s Bones is a film based on a novel. It was nominated to several Academy Award like the
Oscars, Golden Globes as well as other film festivals. The genre of the film oscillates between
drama and thriller. The story takes place in the Midwestern United States. The film is about a sad
story in a dark world dominated by a patriarchal society. Everything happens in a small town where
the citizens are related between them, and they hold grudges. The filmis directed by Debra Granik
and starring Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Garret Dillahunt.
The film begins with an acapella song and the image of children jumping on a trampoline outside a
wooden house in the middle of a forest. The staging is simple, completely gray, cold and sober. The

It helps the plot to cause intrigue and expectation. We can appreciate some songs of the genre
folk and country, typical of those regions. The light used throughout the film. In terms of
cinematography, long shots, full shots, and close up predominate. The use of establishing shot
helps the viewer to locate not so much at a specific time but in a specific context. That is, deep
America. POV shots are also used on different occasions. An example of this, it is a scene in
which Ree goes with his neighbor who is also half cousin in a car to supposedly look for Jessup
s body. From the perspective of the character we see the road. The director uses match on action at
different times. For example, there is a scene in which the protagonist arrives at her friend s house
to see her and ask her a favor. We see them open the door and then they are inside the room. This
effect helps to give continuity to an action that happens in one shot and continues in the next one.
Another of the editing techniques widely used in the film is the reverse shot parent, 180 degree
rule, and aye line match. There are very meetings in the movie. Most of them, between the
protagonist and each of the characters that she visits to ask about her father. Sometimes these
conversations can be carried out with the characters in the same plane. Other times, the camera
shows us first one of the character, and then the other character in other shot as the dialogues

Positive Test Lab Report
Explain what is meant by a positive test for an ion. A positive test means that the ion being tested
for was found. Describe two types of changes that demonstrate a positive test in this lab
experiment. One change that demonstrates a positive test in this lab is precipitate forming. If silver
nitrate solution is mixed with a substance and a precipitate forms, chloride ions must be present in
that substance. Another change the demonstrates a positive test in this lab is a colour change to a
dark red colour. If potassium thiocyanate is mixed with a substance and the colour of the substance

A false positive is a test result that incorrectly indicates a certain substance or condition is
present. b) Provide a specific example where a false positive occurred during the experiment.
And how did you know it was a false positive? Explain. A false positive occurred when Potassium
Thiocyanate was mixed with the substance Unknown A. I know it was a false positive because
a positive result when using potassium thiocyanate would be a colour change to a dark red
colour. In this case, there was a colour change to a green colour. Because there was a chemical
change, it may seem like a positive result. However, it cannot be a positive result, because the
colour did not change to dark red. Therefore, it is a false positive. c) Do some research and find a
real life example where a false positive may occur during lab/medical tests. Explain your answer.
A real life example of when a false positive may occur is during a pregnancy test. A women takes
a pregnancy test and it says she is pregnant when she really isn t. This may happen when a woman

With logos and ethos effectively created, Churchill broadens his speech to fit a bigger audience:
the entirety of Great Britain. In a total war, the home front must be entirely united to continue to
fight and fund a war effort, and Churchill appeals to unity and patriotism. He asks the people of
Britain to give what Churchill himself will be offering blood, toil, tears, and sweat (32). If the
Prime Minister can give his everything to fight in the war, it encourages the audience to want to
participate as well. Churchill continues to appeal to unity through his use of words like we and
our to unite the country with the government as they fight for one cause. By creating a team ,
they can effectively rally the audience into action. The public opinion may believe that the
Germans are unstoppable, but Winston s emotionally charged words that with total effort and
war from all fronts with the support of God, the feat can be achieved (35). Because of the war,
the Prime Minister conveys the necessity for victory; victory at all costs; victory in spirt of all
terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival (38
40). By bringing the risk of destruction of the country should they fail, it further persuades the
audience to want to give their all so they can win the war. After riling up the crowd with the
emotionally charged pathos arguments, Churchill closes with a final remark: Come then, let us go

Bird Seed Lab Report
Background There are many ways to obtain seeds to grow flowers in the springtime, but not all
seeds were created equal. Sunflower seeds, for example, can be bought at a garden store in a
packet for $1.5 dollars per 6 gram packet, but they can also be found in bird seed for $3.53
dollars per 10 pounds. This experiment intends to find if the germination of a store bought
packet of sunflower seeds matches the germination rate of sunflower seeds obtained from a bag
of bird seed. While both seeds will germinate, it is believed that the bird seed will not be as
robust in growth as the garden seed, due to the fact that the garden seed is made to be grown,
while the bird seed is made for consumption. Methods Firstly, for the setup of the experiment, two
styrofoam cups were filled with two inches worth of standard, fertilized garden soil, next four
seeds from from the garden seed, and the bird seed were placed an inch deep in separate cups. The
seeds were blindly labeled, with one being labeled group A and one being labeled group B. This
was so as to efficiently conduct a double blind experiment. The seeds were watered with
approximately a teaspoon of water per day, and kept in a sunny windowsill. They were left in the
windowsill for two weeks, and watered daily. Results The results... Show more content on

While there is some room for error, based off of the differences in students experiments, the data
is significant enough to determine which had the higher germination rate. However, this

sunflowers, while the garden seed produces bigger ones. If one is purchasing seeds based solely off
of germination rate or price, however, the bird seed would be the appropriate

The City Of New York City
The aroma of food vendors, taxi cabs, and flowers molest the face of a person as they walk the
streets of New York City. The rush of a city can often be overwhelming. Even though that may be
true, 80.7 percent of the U.S. population lived in urban areas as of the 2010 Census. Living in
New York City is better than living in a Haysi. Living in a cityoffers many more conveniences,
opportunities, and more diversity. Living in a city offers many amenities and service that might
very well not be available in a rural area. New York Cityfor example, has terrible traffic. A typical
commute of five miles can take between seven minutes and two hours in a car. One major
advantage to a city, NYC in particular, is their flawless public transportation system. Taking the
subway, the commute can be shortened to an average time of ten to fifteen minutes. Take out
service is great as well. Imagine it is two o clock AM, if someone were to wake up hungry, they
could call their local takeout restaurant and more than likely, they would be open. Cities have so
many grocers as well. Not only do cities have more conveniences, but they also offer more
opportunity. 8.406 million Americans call New York City their home. Due to the large population,
there is a large diversity. Many different cultures often bring in new opportunity for work that
might not have been thought of in the past. Living in a large city such as NYC also means a
larger, broader job market. More than likely,

Effects Of Stress On A Young Student s Development
It is known that students face various stress related issues, whether it is a major test, an oral
presentation, strict parents or just the stress of maintaining a good GPA. However, people may not
realize that certain stress related issues can have a huge impact on a young student s development
and even carry these issues into adulthood. College students are typically between ages 18 25,
which is an important life stage called emerging adulthood, as Jeffrey Jensen Arnett (2007) has
written about several times in his journals. Emerging adulthood is the transition from adolescence
into adulthood. It is not a quick transition, but a gradual transition from adolescence to this period
of development. During emerging adulthood, various domains... Show more content on

After being exposed to video game playing or watching, the participants took a survey. It was
generally found that students play video over doing homework. Also, while lower GPA and
video games were related, mostly males showed correlation between violent video games and a
lower GPA. Also, a study by Nelson found that the transition of emerging adulthood marks
significant physical activity decline, along with high TV gaming. (Nelson 2005). During this
study, seven clusters of adolescence with various physical activity levels and sedentary behaviors
were studied and given a questionnaire. The study predicted that with the current questionnaire that
was performed, that physical activity levels in all clusters declined during young adulthood.
(Nelson 2005). Students who experience stress are not going to want to come home to study or do
homework or even go out to exercise. Looking at these studies, it is concluded that stress in
students can lead to more TV, video games and less physical activity, which is correlated with
lower GPA and poor school performance. With these sedentary behaviors habits effecting cognitive
development in young adults, it is likely that the same behaviors and stress handling may also be
brought into adulthood.

The next domain that can be negatively influenced by stress is social development. Social

Cultural Changes In The Great Gatsby

United States. Civil liberties are the restrictions of powers the government has on the citizens.
For example, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, no government established religion, and
the right to a jury trial are all examples of liberties the government cannot deny its citizens.
According to the Supreme Court case Barron v. Baltimore in 1833, none of the provisions in the
Bill of Rights applied to the states, they only applied to the federal government and their
restrictions (Bowers 43). However, the authors of Nevada s 1864 constitution included their own
Bill of Rights named the Declaration of Rights. The Declaration of Rights included all of the same
principles that the Bill of Rights did such as the ones listed above. There are two significant
differences between the two sets of amendments. For one, the Nevada constitution requires
compensation before the government can seize private property, the U.S. constitution does not have
the same requirement. Second, civil cases in Nevada only require a three fourths vote to make a
decision, federal civil cases require a unanimous decision. However, in criminal cases, both Nevada
and the federal government require a unanimous

Essay On Effects Of Discipline On Children
Spanking has a positive effect on children
For many years parents have been disciplining their children in various ways. Discipline is
required to train a child in doing what is right and staying away from what is wrong and
dangerous. Discipline has always been used in order for the child not to grow up spoiled and
choosy. Giving children what they want always is never a good thing, while teaching them that
they cannot have everything teaches them patience. Discipline is very critical in a child s life
because it is a determining factor on how that child is going to turn out in the future. People will
always relate bad parenting to a child s bad behaviour and good parenting to a good behaviour. So
how must parents discipline in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers also found out in a survey that 30% of parents believed that spanking was not
harmful to their children, 60% believed it harmful to their children, only 10% believed it would
lead to severe problems. These statistics raise a startling flag when you think of the nature of this
form of correction.
Parents should be learned about how their form of discipline affects their child because
punishment does not have a sense of discipline as the only outcome. Sometimes children are less
responsive to a certain form of discipline than others. It cannot be helped that a child is unique and
different from others. The child is also a factor in terms of discipline and punishment it is not solely
dependent on his/her parent and the way they discipline. There are other alternatives to punishing
the children for their bad behavior. Less severe punishment besides spanking. They can take away
their television privileges, computer use, and playing outside with their friends, they could ground
them for the weekend and cancel plans, or they could take the time to sit and talk to their children

Us Foreign Policy Analysis
Q 7 Discuss the Foreign policy making in USA in currentScenario.
BACKGROUND
The USA exercises its foreign policy through financial aid. For example, scarcity relief in North
Korea provides not only humanitarian aid but also a base for the development of democratic ideals
and bodies.
George Washington s Farewell Speech in 1789 enclosed one major piece of advice to the state
regarding relations with other nations: avoid entangling alliances. Those words designed USA
foreign policy for more than a century.
Today some Americans consider that Washington s words are still wise ones, and that the USA
should take away from world affairs whenever possible. In fact, , the US has been involved in
world politics throughout the 20th century, and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Who Makes Foreign Policy?
Henry Kissinger work for as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State under Presidents
Nixon and Ford. He was a key figure in uttering U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War, and
remains one of the leading authorities on international relations and diplomacy.
As with all policy making, many people and organizations have a hand in setting United States
foreign policy. The main goals of foreign policy is to use diplomacy or talking, meeting, and
creating agreements to solve international issues. They try to keep problems from developing into
conflicts that require military settlements.
The President almost always has the primary obligation for affecting foreign policy. Presidents, or
their representatives, meet with leaders of other nations to try to resolve international issues
peacefully. According to the Constitution, Presidents sign treaties with other nations with the advice
and approval of the Senate. So the Senate, and to a lesser extent, the House of Representatives, also
contribute in shaping foreign policy.

Don Pedro And Don John Foil
In fiction, a foil is a character who contrasts with another character usually the protagonist in order
to highlight particular qualities of the other character. . In Much Ado About Nothing A character
named Don John tries to ruin Claudio and Hero s wedding. In this book there is a lot of confusion
and trickery and the other character must figure out Don John s plan before the wedding is ruined.
In the play Much Ado About Nothingby William Shakespeare, Don John and Don Pedro are foils
of each other because they have different views on life, different social status, and have different
personalities.
The reason Don pedro and Don john are foils of each other is because of the polar opposites of
social status. For Don Jon says I wonder that thou, being, as thou sayest thou art, born under Saturn,

Though only half her husband s age of 52 at the time of her marriage in 1880, she settled in

His record at Harvard, which he attended between 1900 and 1904, was only slightly more

prestigious social club, and he did not receive much stimulation in the classroom. As at Groton, his
grades were mediocre, and he showed no excitement about his studies.
At this point politics gave him a sense of purpose. The Democratic organization in Dutchess

Party leaders recognized that although Roosevelt had no political experience he had assets as a
candidate: the wealth to finance a campaign, and the best known political name in the United

A Relationship Between Physical Properties And Mental...
The relationship between the physical and the mental is an issue that philosophers have pondered
for centuries, and this issue still remains relevant today. In the attempt to determine the relationship
between physical properties and mental properties two schools of thoughts emerged: Monism and
Dualism. People who subscribe to monism believe physical properties, such as color and location,
as well as mental properties, such as emotions and beliefs, are all one entity. Materialisms, the most
popular form of monism, claims that everything mental is also physical. On the other end of the
spectrum, Dualists believe that physical and mental properties are two separate entities. This paper
will address the merits of interactionist substance dualism(interactionism) and epiphenomenalist
property dualism(epiphenomenalism) as well as functionalism which is a type of materialism.
The debate between dualism and materialism has retained its relevance today even though most
contemporary philosophers believe materialism to be true. This is in large part due to the
implications that comes with both views. If dualism is true, this means that there are some things
that science will never be able to explain because science only has the ability to explain the
physical. Therefore, dualism does not correspond with a scientific worldview which indicates why
most scientists and philosophers are reluctant to accept this view. On the other hand, if materialism
is true the possibility of an

Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities
The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured
faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within
the higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000),
minority representation in the American higher educationsystem has generally been a major issue
for the academic community as a whole.
Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and
universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority
faculty members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority
faculty members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are
examined.
Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the
appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely
underrepresented in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much
success with regard to minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit
minority applicants (Gibson Benninger, 1995).
Since its inception in 1987, the diversity program that was aiming to link academic excellence and
social diversity at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus has shown some improvement in
the number of their minority faculty members of tenured and

The Antitrust Laws Are Really Competition Laws That Are...
Abdurhman Alsadi Prof. Joshua Long Exam #3 04/14/2016 Question #1 The antitrust laws are

was the Sherman Act of 1890. This law mainly address the unreasonable restraints of trade which

impermissible activities such as price discrimination between different purchasers if such
discrimination tend to create a monopoly; exclusive dealing agreements, tying arrangements, and

American Social Class Differences

wealth to be able to throw many parties, all for a possible chance to see his love once lost, Daisy.
In this, both Jay Gatsby and Prince Hamlet are willing to sacrifice all that they have, not limited to
themselves, in order to achieve their unrealistic goals. In comparison, Hamlet is content with
altering his life and his current relationships, all for the sake of being closer to his ultimate goal,

Hamlet lacks faith in G d and himself. Consequently he must define his existence in terms of

Affirmative Action In The 1960s
In June of 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson asked in an emphatic address, why the black
inhabitants had fallen behind the white majority during the two decades since the end of World War
II. He accentuated the need to embrace audacious new policies and originated an extensive new
government policy called affirmative actionto aid the disabilities following from two centuries of
brutality and unfairness. The objective of this policy was to defeat the accrued human mutilation
triggered by Jim Crow and 350 years of slavery and also to guarantee further advancement toward
equality. For an example, African Americans being victimized simply because they are black and

Affirmative action from the 1960s has generated a more diverse society and it focused mainly on
opportunities for middle class African Americans pursuing an approach to exceptional jobs and
higher education. Affirmative action has done more to advance fair treatment across racial lines
than any other recent public policy. If affirmative action did not exist, the United Stateswould be a
vastly more segregated country. Without such efforts, most white Americans would have far less
contact with their fellow black citizens. (171) In other words, without affirmative action, diversity
could no longer survive. Black Americans would be stigmatized and condemned as a subordinate
group even more so. In the 1978 Supreme Court case of the Regents of the University of
California v. Bakke, Justice Lewis Powell offered firm standards for racial modification. He argued
that adjustments to color blind strategies could be commenced to remedy race based detriments
when two circumstances are met. There has to be a pure connection to affirmative action s
remedies and past harms based on race. Also, the tie between past actions and present policy
must be sturdy and accurate. Powell also believed if there is a non racial way to chase a
specified goal, that way should always be the preferred route. Affirmative action is legitimized
because the detriment of blacks in the Roosevelt and Truman years satisfies Powell s strict

Rna Interference ( Rnai ) Drugs
RNA interference (RNAi) drugs are drugs that alter the protein production of the desired cells
/tissues by altering their RNA. The field of RNA interference is fairly recent with study of the
mechanisms that enable it starting in the 1990s and continuing today. Through the years, it has
been known as co suppression, post transcriptional gene silencing, quelling, and others due to the
ability to deactivate or suppress certain genes, mostly in Eukaryotes. RNAi has proved to be a very
powerful instrument in medicine, biotechnology, genomics and others. The medicines currently
produced can actually stop the production of certain proteins to treat specific illnesses, essentially
making a genetic off switch for certain genes. A common focus of RNAi is targeting cancers, liver
disease, and Hepatitis C., by utilizing small single and double sided RNAsegments that alter the
host RNA, allowing for little to no DNA change while stopping the function and reproduction of
the target. One of the only downsides to this kind of treatment is that it is nonreversible and must
be taken slowly to study its effects in total. This growing field is a perfect example of how simple
genetic concepts are able to help shape human health forever. In Elbashir, Lendeckel, and Tuschl s
article, they explore how 21 and 22 nucleotides RNAs mediate RNA interferenceby using an in
vitro Drosophila system; this article is still referenced today as an authoritative source for RNAi

women, especially women of color, who were systematically drawn away from math because of
the color of their skin or because of sexist exclusionary notions. Although her contributions to
mathematics are seen more in a group effort, one cannot take away from the fact of her role as an
inspiration to girls interested in the field of mathematics. With her widespread dedication to
education and large investments of time for space programs, this woman was pivotal in
challenging sexist and racist stereotypes that had held women like her back for years. She opened
up positions for women of color in fields where they were never

Stock Split
EFFECTS OF STOCK SPLIT
Introduction
The purpose of this research paper is information retrieval regarding stock split practice in a modern
stock market, its major reasons and valuation effects on the company s financial position.
According to the definition stock split is a method commonly used to lower the market price of a
firm s stock by increasing the number of shares belonging to each shareholder. Companies are able
to split their stocks in any number of ways. The most common stock splits are, 2 for 1, 3 for 2 and
3 for 1. For example, if you own 100 shares of a company that trades at $100 a share and it declares
a 2 for 1 stock split, you will own a total of 200 shares at $50 a share after the split. It is also
possible to have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one year ago a single share of Berkshire Hathaway cost around $101,000 per share
and was the first stock to ever hit a six digit share price. Berkshire Hathaway is not going to split
their stocks and not interesting to make the price more affordable for small investors because these
stocks are not for common people. These stocks are designed for very wealthy investors.
As we can see from Figure 1, through one year the price of Berkshire Hathaway s shares increase
for approximately 48,000 per share.
Figure 1. BRK A, 2007. Thus, in spite of fact that price of these stocks is awfully high, investors
still buy it because it has been increasing from year to year.
Reverse Stock Split
A reverse split reduces the number of outstanding shares and should instantly lift a stock s price.
For example, a stock trading at $1 that is reverse split 1 for 5 should rise to $5 while the company
s market value and underlying fundamentals are unchanged. Investors own fewer shares, but their
value stays the same. So, it really depends on the substance of the stock behind the stock. And it is
right that most reverse splits turn out badly. Most times, a reverse split is done because the shares
have fallen down into the penny stock category (below $5 per share) that threatens their ability to
remain listed on an exchange. Nasdaq requires that a

Muscle Soreness Essay
Muscle Soreness Nearly anyone who works out regularly has experienced sore muscles after
exercise. Sometimes you will feel it later that night, or the next morning and in some cases, you
may actually think you are out of the woods, only to wake up two days later with stiff, tender
muscles that feel as tight as rubber bands. For some people, sore muscles are a reward after a
hard workout. In fact, some people are not happy unless they are sore after their workout, while
others could live without it. Either way, all of us have probably experienced musclesoreness at one
time or another. There are two types of exercise related muscle soreness. Immediate muscle
soreness or acute muscle soreness quickly disperse and is the pain you feel... Show more content on

According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that
result from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and
fluids that flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle
referred to is microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called
anabolism. It is not the type of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling
and inflammation can build up for days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be
worse two , three, or three or even four days after a workout for muscles to heal completely
depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle soreness can be prevented with some measure
taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a short time only. Increase your activity a
little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual has experienced delayed muscle
soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter that sensation again until the
intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been shown to produce a rapid
adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise intensity level. Unless
the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how much intensity level
as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle soreness are as
follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in

Prometheus And The Instinctive Man
Prometheus, a tale over 2000 years old, is still as relevant in the modern era as it was all those years
ago in Athens. Prometheus is seen throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, especially in pop
culture, frequently as a martyr and hero, however there is a much more profound parallel that can
be made about his timeless character. He represents the consequences of when one seeks
knowledge, independency, and especially enlightenment. From his deviance to his torture, we see
how prometheusand the modern man are alike. Prometheus gave humans fire, by doing so that
meant that he no longer needed nor respected the gods and that humans would soon follow that
example. Prometheus offered an escape from the patriarchal Zeus, who can be compared to the
Judeo Christian God, and for doing so he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is chained to a rock in the Caucasus, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle, all the while
watching his own torment. Prometheus is what happens to man when he becomes the
instinctive man, as we see quoted from Bertrand Russell s The Problems of Philosophy. The life
of the instinctive man is shut up within the circle of his private interests...we remain like a
garrison in a beleaguered fortress, knowing that the enemy prevents escape and that ultimate
surrender is inevitable. In such a life there is no peace, but a constant strife between the
insistence of desire and the powerlessness of will. In one way or another, if our life is to be great
and free, we must escape this prison and this strife.(35 36) In his act of defiance, Prometheus
becomes the instinctive man. Just like in modern society we have people who are confined to their
own world and are deterred from seeking

The obvious breakdown in Salem s social order led to the tragedy in which twenty innocent people were hanged on the accusation of witchcraft. At many points throughout the play there were opportunities to stop the witch trials; however, one character in particular prevented the crease in convictions. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Deputy Governor Danforth is responsible for the tragedy in Salem. One of many reasons the witch trials were able to continue was because of Judge Danforth s ignorance towards what was actually going on in Salem. When Francis Nurse and John Proctor try to explain to him the girls are deceiving him, he over rules their ideas by challenging And do you know that near to four hundred are in the jails from Marblehead to Lynn, and upon my signature? (Miller 179). Danforth is proud to say that he has put people in jail, put people to death for witchcraft because his ignorance blocks him from seeing the evidence he is presented with is false. As well as being exposed to false evidence, Judge Danforth also makes the claim that witchcraft cannot be disproved; therefore the court has to rely solely on the girl s accusations. An Essay About The Parthenon The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of the sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in Greece. Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding whether the sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they came. The sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon, created as a temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces from this creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece, and they should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was not always a barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete with houses and gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for independence from Turkish rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian Prince named Otto. He wanted to find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that was starting anew at the end of the war. In addition to the basic consumer rights expressed in the consumer s Magna Carta, what other expectations do you think consumer stakeholders have of business? The basic consumer rights expressed in the Magna Carta include the right to safety; they want products to be free of pesticides and the drugs we purchase and foods we consume are safe as well as product safety. Secondly, there is the right to be informed, which refers to the right to know about a product, and the use of a product, and this deals with advertisingand marketing. There is also the right to make choices, meaning the competition makes sure there are other options available, and lastly, to be heard, meaning consumers have the right to communicate with business concerning what they may want in a product, and any complaints they may have about a product (Carroll, 2012, p. 392). In addition to these rights, consumers demand fair value for money spent on a product; they also expect a product to meet reasonable expectations, which means the product will as be safe, and thoroughly tested according to regulation and if it is not safe, it should be taken off the market. In addition, consumers expect complete disclosure of the descriptions and design of a product or service, and that there is truth in advertisements (Carroll, 2012, p. 393). 2. However, more people can be killed in an instant by nuclear weapons whereas when you use a gun, more people can be killed in a span of a few months. • 28. A Relationship Between Physical Properties And Mental... The relationship between the physical and the mental is an issue that philosophers have pondered for centuries, and this issue still remains relevant today. In the attempt to determine the relationship between physical properties and mental properties two schools of thoughts emerged: Monism and Dualism. People who subscribe to monism believe physical properties, such as color and location, as well as mental properties, such as emotions and beliefs, are all one entity. Materialisms, the most popular form of monism, claims that everything mental is also physical. On the other end of the spectrum, Dualists believe that physical and mental properties are two separate entities. This paper will address the merits of interactionist substance dualism(interactionism) and epiphenomenalist property dualism(epiphenomenalism) as well as functionalism which is a type of materialism. The debate between dualism and materialism has retained its relevance today even though most contemporary philosophers believe materialism to be true. This is in large part due to the implications that comes with both views. If dualism is true, this means that there are some things that science will never be able to explain because science only has the ability to explain the physical. Therefore, dualism does not correspond with a scientific worldview which indicates why most scientists and philosophers are reluctant to accept this view. On the other hand, if materialism is true the possibility of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within the higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000), minority representation in the American higher educationsystem has generally been a major issue for the academic community as a whole. Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority faculty members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority faculty members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are examined. Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely underrepresented in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much success with regard to minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit minority applicants (Gibson Benninger, 1995). If affirmative action did not exist, the United Stateswould be a vastly more segregated country. Without such efforts, most white Americans would have far less contact with their fellow black citizens. (171) In other words, without affirmative action, diversity could no longer survive. Black Americans would be stigmatized and condemned as a subordinate group even more so. In the 1978 Supreme Court case of the Regents of the University of California v. Bakke, Justice Lewis Powell offered firm standards for racial modification. He argued that adjustments to color blind strategies could be commenced to remedy race based detriments when two circumstances are met. There has to be a pure connection to affirmative action s remedies and past harms based on race. Also, the tie between past actions and present policy must be sturdy and accurate. Powell also believed if there is a non racial way to chase a specified goal, that way should always be the preferred route. The field of RNA interference is fairly recent with study of the mechanisms that enable it starting in the 1990s and continuing today. Through the years, it has been known as co suppression, post transcriptional gene silencing, quelling, and others due to the ability to deactivate or suppress certain genes, mostly in Eukaryotes. RNAi has proved to be a very powerful instrument in medicine, biotechnology, genomics and others. The medicines currently produced can actually stop the production of certain proteins to treat specific illnesses, essentially making a genetic off switch for certain genes. A common focus of RNAi is targeting cancers, liver disease, and Hepatitis C., by utilizing small single and double sided RNAsegments that alter the host RNA, allowing for little to no DNA change while stopping the function and reproduction of the target. One of the only downsides to this kind of treatment is that it is nonreversible and must be taken slowly to study its effects in total. This growing field is a perfect example of how simple genetic concepts are able to help shape human health forever.
