The Lasting Legacy of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson is one of the most influential presidents of the United States. Along with his
successes and failures he proved to be a great president by leaving his legacy s behind. A legacy is
something someone has had handed down or left for future generations. Thomas Jefferson is one of
the most influential people that left their legacies behind because his presidency commenced the
quarter century rule of the Virginia Dynasty. He was also known for his hospitality towards the central
government as well as the judicial branch of the Supreme Court. In the private and public affairs
Thomas Jefferson has been a great democratic icon because he knew the peoples power and knew the
public s point of view, he also knew what the public wanted. The United States had the strongest
Government on earth, Jefferson told his fellow Americans in according to his first Inaugural Address
on March 4, 1801.
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. As a young child Jefferson was
a very intellectual boy. Jefferson s first childhood memory was at the age of three, he took his father s
slaves in the Virginia wilderness. This was when Jefferson s family moved to a plantation that was
under the control of Thomas Jefferson s father. Thomas Jefferson and his family spent six years
wandering around the woods and studying his books. When Jefferson was the age of nine that was
when his formal studies began.

A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis
The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The
Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom
Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of
Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece
started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody
over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out with
a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet, again with
a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the saxophone and trumpet
are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano it is like a slight drizzle of
rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and
trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in with
a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to be
conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or stumbling. As
the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a homophonic
texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures of the bass,
piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal of tension with made
for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting and stopping, stumbling.
The piece ended with a short, but complete cadence that resolved the

The Beauty Myth Essay
This essay is for women who believe their thighs are too big, their breasts are too small, their hair is
boring, their skin is flawed, their body is shaped funny, or their clothes are outdated. This month s
column is for women who believe their life would improve if they could lose 15 pounds; if they could
afford contact lenses, that new perfume or anti cellulite concoction; if they got a nose job, a face lift, a
tummy tuck, etc. This month s column is for women who feel shame or unhappiness when they
ponder some part (or all) of their body. In other words, this month s column is for 99.9% of the
women reading it!

The Importance Of Achievement
Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone else. But,
other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try to be best they
can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and school only impact
certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think they do not need schooling
to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over achievers, and then there are people who
just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that grades do not impact everyone s achievements
because some people do not worry about school and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I
have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17,
trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the
best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to
motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just
came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with
math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to
pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th
grade. I have strived for better grades because that is how I feel achievement. I

Ww1 Austria-Hungary Research Paper
This essay will attempt to answer the question To what extent is Austria Hungary at fault for causing
the start of World War One? This topic is significant due to the ongoing debate about how WWI
started and because of the debt some countries only recently, have paid off. In 1914, the country to
declare the first war was Austria Hungary s(AH) declaration of war on Serbia. Following this was
Serbia s ally, Russia, who mobilized its troops in preparation, and Germany soon after declaring war
on the russians. As the snowball effect came into place, countries such as France, the United Kingdom
and Belgium followed in declaring different wars amongst each other. This resulted in the start of
World War I. It began in 1914 one of the greatest wars in all of history, ending almost five years after
in November of 1918. The causes of WWI, will continuously spark debates between people, as there
were so many countries involved. This essay will argue that Austria Hungary is mostly to blame for

I Believe Webb Was A Transformational Leader Essay
Throughout history, there have been various amounts of leaders and leadership styles. There have also
been instances in American history where capable and influential leaders have been crucial to the
formation of our nation. A very inspiring and motivating leader in American history is Alexander S.
Webb. I believe that Webb was a transformational leader. Born on February 15th, 1853, in NYC, New
York, Webb was raised in a house with military leaders. Attending the United States Military Academy
in 1855, he continued his service until the yeah 1870 with many different accomplishments and goals
met. He received recognition from men who have shaped the country today and made differences in
the way men were led during combat. Throughout his military career, I believe Webb established a
transformational leadership style. I also would like to obtain the sane leadership qualities he possessed
and be able to apply them to my own career. Alexander S Webb, Brevet Major General Webb in the
Army, is a leader worth looking up to and following.
To begin with, Webb ranked 13 out of 34 when he graduated from the United States Military
Academy. He had an excellent militarily lineage to look up to as well. Both his father and grandfather
were active members in the Army. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Webb began to show all his
leadership styles in front of many high ranks on different occasions. Through time, he gained the trust
of higher ranks with his qualities and was promoted quickly.

Cruise Ships And Management Teams Of The Cruise
Introduction Vacationing is nothing new to many individuals around the world. While many choose to
travel to resorts for their vacations, many find excitement embarking on cruise ships for multiple
destinations and activities for their vacations. As one of the largest tourism outlets, cruises are
constantly changing with new routes and destinations for customers, with bringing as many as 3000
on board passengers (Cite MANAGING CRUISE SHIPS). Cruise ships allow passengers a wide
variety of activities and leisure during their stay aboard and while docked. With the boats stopping at
numerous destinations in one week, each visit has pros and cons to the general areas being visited.
This paper will focus on the cons that occur from the widely populated ships visiting ports in the
Bahamas. More so, the problem being that these cruise ships are bringing thousands of visitors
weekly, yet are failing to support port destinations economically which leaves the port locals and
entrepreneurs suffering. Specifically this paper will look into the cause of the issue, which is mostly
the cruise ships and management teams of the cruise companies. Further, this paper will explore the
solution to how these cruise companies can better support the port communities and aiding to the local
environment. More so, having the ships promote and advertise local recreational activities could be a
possible solution. As well, what the local entrepreneurs could be doing to appeal more directly to the

The procurement process
The procurement life cycle can be made up into 13 key stages. The stages I am going to follow the
CIPS stages of procurement and supply management. (Cips.org, 2017)
(Cips.org, 2017)
Stage 1
The first stage of the process is to understand and define the buyer s needs. This is where the
procurement department need to recognize that a product is needed in order to purchase it. This needs
to be done with a high level specification which can be achieved by using a variety of stakeholders.
This stage is where all the requirements for the product need be identified.
Stage 2
The second stage is market/commodity this needs to be taken place after the buyer has got the buyer
needs to a high specification to ensure that at this stage the right product is chosen. At this stage the
procurement department need to research all options available within the market. By getting an
estimate of what is on the current market, it enables the buyer to pick out potential suppliers also
familiarising the buyer with the competition in the market. This is also the stage where the
procurement department would be able to look into conducting an analysis on how they are going to
achieve the product i.e. make or purchase it/ utilize the service. By conducting market research it gives
stakeholders a clear picture of the market.
Stage 3
The third stage is developing the plan. Once the specification has been

company goals? This paper will explain what is, and how to calculate a weighted average cost of
capital of Tesco Plc based on company s balance sheet1 and cash flow statement.2 The second part
will focus on a report on the Tesco s cash flow over the two year period starting in 2005. In the last
part essay will explain what discount rate Tesco Plc. should use when deciding on major investment
projects.

WACC is calculated by multiplying the cost of each capital component by its proportional weight and
then summing:
WACC = ke We + kd Wd
Where kd cost of debt ke cost of equity
Wd weight of debt Vd / (Vd + Ve )
We weight of equity Ve / (Vd + Ve )
Data for Tesco is:
Debt £4,509 million
Cost of debt 5.376%
Weight of debt 4,509 / (4,509 + 9 444) = 0.3231
Equity £9 444 million
Cost of equity 8.306%
Weight of equity 9 444 / (4,509 + 9 444) = 0.6768
WACC = 8.306% x 0.6768+5.376% x 0.3231
WACC = 7.4407%
Tesco s weighted average cost of capital is 7.44%, this means that if the company takes on an
investment with return lesser than that figure it will make a loss. Not being able to cover costs of
financing will force shareholders to look for value elsewhere, consequently forcing them to look for
returns in different company.
Write a brief report on the company s cash flow over the period covered by the accounts.
Cash flow statement is simple and informative way to evaluate company s financial position; both
inflows and outflows of cash are included in the statement. Usually it is taken over the period of one
year and it measure cash flow from: operation, investing and financing activities. All of the figures are
easily obtainable from the sheet.

Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay
In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the
anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I am
also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health and
wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that states
that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from the word
humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of the earth and
the four elements. These elements are better known as earth, fire, water and air. The balance in these
earthly elements allows the earth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and cause
certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that a disease
was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three theories differ
because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and understanding diseases. The
Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical theory allowed us to take a deeper
look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us to learn what was happening in the
body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these two studies we would not have come to the
Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different in concept each theory was important and we
would not have been able to progress along to the next theory. If we would not have had the germ
theory we would not have discovered the need for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories
also allowed physicians to learn to look at diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro
scale or big picture. I feel that these theories have led to significant changes in health care over the
years. These theories have allowed scientist to discover not only how to cure some disease but also
how to prevent diseases from spreading. Scientists were able to develop vaccines, antiseptics, create
personal protective equipment and enabled the public

Analysis Of The Essay Medfield, Massachusetts By John...
Turns Out You Can Take the Country Out Of the Boy
In the essay Medfield, Massachusetts, Author John Preston recounts his childhood growing up in a
small town. He recalls deep rooted connections to the community and to the history of Medfield. At
first it appears that Preston s identification to his role as a member of his hometown is secure, but as
he later reveals, an irreconcilable identity conflict develops which causes him to make a very difficult
choice. The theory of the formation of in groups and their impact on how an individual s identity is
formed offers some insight into what change is taking place to Preston s identity that will eventually
cause him to seek acceptance in a new reference group outside of Medfield, the town he felt so much a
part of in his youth.
In his often cited essay, The Formation of In Groups, Gordon Allport offers his theory on how the
groups with which one identifies directly influence the development of one s individual identity. An in
group is a group where members share common traits such as societal status, religion, values or sexual
orientation. All the members are alike in some way and that similarity unites them as a group. Allport
suggests that one belongs to many in groups throughout his or her lifetime. Individuals are born into
some in groups, such as one s family, race or socio economic level; this Allport terms as an ascribed
status . People also obtain achieved status in a group such as one s circle

the HCI, but if there are not that much errors then it can be known as an effective HCI, because the
user can use it effectively without having to troubleshoot. The effectiveness of HCI can be measured
by the understanding of the user and to what extent the user has the knowledge and understanding of
the HCI. If it seems as though that the user does not have the understanding of the HCI then the
conclusion would be that the HCI is not very effective. But if the user is understanding the HCI and

Selfhood In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
During the late of the nineteenth century, the American society had witnessed the abolishment of
slavery, but still women had no right to vote until 1920. It makes sense, then, that freedom and
feminine selfhood would be of great concern to the forerunners of modern feminism. Kate Chopin s
The Story of an Hour was written in April 1894. In this story, initiated by the false news of Louise
Mallard s husband s death in a train accident, Chopin presents us with a picture of a subjugated female
protagonist feeling a powerful joy for the death of her husband that will give a promising path of
freedom. Chopin s exploration of the themes of feminine selfhood, the yearning for freedom,
independence and new life and of what she calls the possession of self assertion is vividly displayed in

It takes place in the Malards residence, the home of Brently and Louise Mallard and it starts in a
public setting, probably the living room or even the kitchen because people are gathered there, where
Josephine reveals, very gently, to her sister that her husband is passed away after a horrible train
accident. The scope of this story is actually super limited: The primary action of the story occurs
within the Mallards home and it is striking that besides the fact that female characters, and only, are
always inside the house, the characters that entered it did never leave it, as if they are caged in.
Equally, Mrs. Mallard seems to be pretty confined to the house because she was afflicted with a heart
trouble . Her heart being physically sick is very symbolic of her emotional and psychic state of
sickness caused by her feelings being trapped in her marital life of subjugation. The idea of
confinement is widely reinforced by the image of the internal doors , not only the external ones, being
firmly locked by the aid of a latchkey which was opened only once during the

many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to
undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the
lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly
weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues
that have resulted in the former s emergence. A cross country analysis between Japan and America
will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly
Westernised Japan and the West itself. Yaeba ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures
(Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion.
Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous prominent
Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase cute , ubiquitous in the
descriptions . Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I
posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend
highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to
an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been
suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus,
2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority
of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with
women possessing child like appearance also seems to be sexualising women (Considine, 2011) into
symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for

Homeless Veterans Community Analysis
The homeless veterans population has been a problem over the decades, but over the past few years
the population of homeless veterans has increased once again. This is a concerning problem that needs
to be attended to and human services is one of the ways to seek help. Veterans from previous wars had
experience when they came back home lack of support that lead them to become homeless. Over the
years this has gotten better by the government starting programs to help transition back to civilian
status (Murphy Tobin, 2014). Recently this has change due to the veteran population has increased for

During the past two summers, I have spent time in Hopewell, Jamaica. With my mother and groups of
dental students, I have gone in the name of the Christian Dental Society. We provided free dental care
for people in need. One week is spent in Jamaica, and four days are spent in a small clinic. The clinic
in Hopewell has been built onto a church, and there is no air conditioning. A few dental chairs get set
up in the sanctuary. Every morning at the clinic starts out busily as we get all of the stations ready to
see patients. Following clinic prep, we go outside where all of the patients are waiting. They sit on old
church pews and benches under a makeshift tarp roof. We say good morning to the patients and

Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance
A changing Nation
The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people during
that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The United States of
America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created compromises that made a
big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and economically.
Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture was
beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to foreign beliefs
and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The First Hawaiian
Renaissance had begun. Compromises, many made by King Kalakaua, ... Show more content on

The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right
about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not know
Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the culture.
Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take away what
rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that were not written
on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also drawn Hawaii as nation
under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during this Hawaiian Renaissance
completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is truly an important aspect of what it
came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was preserved. People all over the world,
especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even America, should all learn about this major
time in Hawaii s history where people fought against the eradication of their culture, as their way of
life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be compared to a personal problem in life, but it shows
how with a conflict and many compromises, many things can

Heart Of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad Essay
The author of Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad, and the author of Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe,
both present two stories written in completely different perspectives on the way whites and African s
view each other. These two men also lived in completely different time eras than each other, along
with opposite life styles which affected their view on their writings, for Joseph Conrad lived in the late
1800 s, born in Ukraine, and Chinua Achebe in the early 1900 s, born in Nigeria. Man s fallen nature
plays a large role in Heart of Darkness and in Things Fall Apart, through the way that the characters
view other people in the books. The white characters tend to view the Africans as savages; however,
they actually have great abilities that they do not know of. Man s fallen nature also affects how the
characters interact with each other in man vs man, since the white do not view the Africans in the
same way, they will think lowly of the Africans and treat them with disrespect. Throughout the stories
of Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart, man s fallen nature is seen throughout the communication
with white s and Africans, this can be seen through how they think of each other and their actions
from man s fallen nature through man vs man. Joseph Conrad, the author of Heart of Darkness grew
up in a completely different time era and opposite world as the Things Fall Apart author, Chinua
Achebe. Joseph Conrad was British, born in Ukraine on December 3, 1857 living to August

Brave New World And The Island
Imagine a perfect world where everything is controlled; your job, your everyday life, even your
thoughts. You would never have to think about anything ever again, but Aldous Huxley, the writer of
Brave New World and Michael Bay, the director of The Island, both attempt to depict the dangers of
this utopia . Although Brave New World and The Island both successfully communicate satire, Brave
New World is better at eliciting people to think and change.
In both Brave New World and The Island, one aspect that communicates satire is the lack of individual
thought. For example, in both, everyone in the community has predetermined jobs. In Huxley s novel,
everyone is assigned a job based on their caste level; in Bay s film, people automatically learn a job to
advance society after being cloned. This shows the degree of a government s control over the
population. The societies represented here closely resemble totalitarianism, [a] form of government
that subordinates all aspects of its citizens lives to the authority of the state, with a single charismatic
leader as the ultimate authority (Merriam Webster.com). Because nearly everything is designated to
people or enforced strictly, people do not think for themselves. Although this creates a stable society, it
also creates a mindless society. For example, on page 28, the Director of Hatchery and Conditioning
comments on listening to hypnopaedic phrases, saying,
they ll have that repeated forty or fifty times more before they

Freud s Developmental Stages Essay
Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human
psychological development and developmental problems.
A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages:
Birth 1 year: Oral Stage.
This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and
from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force.
When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage
which is solid food.
Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression.
The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip and

or eliminating faeces†Dryden s
Handbook of Individual Therapy pg 32
This stage is concerned with child s need to do things on their own terms, the conflict arises for them
where they have a need to assert their own will but also crave parental approval, this time can produce
a battle of wills between parent and child.
Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage.
At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles
they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role
models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many
single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been
accepted.
However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious
about sexual differences.
This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts about
what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a

to diagnose PCOS. At least two of the following three criteria must be present before a diagnosis can

Women with PCOS exhibit high LH levels and thereby have elevated production of androgens by

anovulation and infertility. The prevalence of PCOS in women with RPL runs as high as 56%

hyperinsulinemia/insulin resistance, obesity, and hyperhomocysteinemia. Hyperinsulinemia and
insulin resistance can negatively affect implantation by decreasing activity of cell adhesion proteins.
Hyperhomocysteinemia can also result in miscarriage because of its pro coagulative nature, similar to

Class Structure In Brave New World
The futuristic dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is about a government and how
they control the citizens using conditioning, class structure, and the use of the drug soma.
Conditioning plays a big role because it helps teach children what their role in society is. It constantly
teaches the children what is right and wrong whether they are awake or sleeping. Class structure also
plays a role in how they control the citizens and how they live their life. Some classes are more
oppressed than others, like the Epsilons and Deltas who are used for manual labor because they have
little to no intelligence. To add, the governments use soma to control the citizens because it increases
serotonin in the brain and it helps escape from reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soma is a hallucinogen that whenever someone takes it, they instantly become happy and more
carefree. The characters use this drug as an escape from the world. They don t want to feel pain or
sadness, they constantly want to feel the need of being joyful and happy. The government uses soma
as a way to gain social stability. Stability, said the Controller, stability. No civilization without
stability. No social stability without individual stability (Huxley, 42). Stability is a major role that is
needed in this kind of society. Without stability, the society will be in shambles. However, so many
people in the community loves soma, because many people constantly become distressed with topics
they aren t used to. For example, when two characters named Lenina and Bernard go to a Reservation,
Lenina says, But it s terrible, Lenina whispered. It s awful. We ought not to have come here. She felt
in her pocket for her soma only to discover that, by some unprecedented oversight, she had left the
bottle (Huxley, 111). Soma has become addicted throughout the community, and people can t go one
moment out of their norm. Lenina goes on saying, Oh, I wish I had my soma (Huxley, 116). Lenina is
constantly wanted soma whenever she pinpoints something wrong than her norm. This is because she
was conditioned to feel this way. A gramme in time saves nine, said Lenina, producing a bright
treasure of sleep taught wisdom (Huxley, 89). The term sleep taught wisdom is meaning that she
remembers this from hypnopaedia, and with the use of bright treasure , she thinks that the government

forces model of competition is the most powerful and widely used tool for assessing the strength of
the industry s competitive forces.
The Five Basic Competitive Forces
1. The threat of new entrants. Several factors determine whether the threat of new companies entering
the marketplace presents a significant competitive pressure. As a rule, the bigger pool of entry
candidates, the stronger the threat of potential entry. Dess, et.al. enumerated the six major sources of
entry barriers.
a. Economies of scale. Economies of scale refers to spreading the costs of production over the number
of units produced. The cost of a product per unit declines as the absolute volume per period increases.
b. Product differentiation. When existing competitors have strong brand

If a few shingles have blown off during a storm, or if there s a small leak in one area, replacing is an
economical option. It also makes the most sense. After all, why incur the expense of installing a new

In some cases one section of a roof may be damaged. Perhaps, a tree limb has fallen on an area of the
roof which resulted in damage to 1/4 of the roof. This is another time when repairing may be the more

Persuasive Essay On Adoption
No not all couples can have a child to love and raise but there is a great opportunity for them to have a
child to love and care for, and that is call adoption. People adopt children for so many reason. It
provides a possibility for an unwanted child to have a home and be loved and had a happy life. There
are so many people adopted and that has changed their life. Don t you wonder where Steve Jobs,
Jamie Foxx, and Babe Ruth would be if they weren t adopted? And I do wonder where I would be if I
wasn t adopted.
One reason why people choose to adopt is because they are unable to conceive kids, or because they
have had miscarriages and don t want to risk losing their child again. Some might adopt stepchildren
or children of family members who aren t financially stable to support their child.
The adoption process can be very long. There is a 10 step process from the NAC (National Adoption
Center) website that states that step number one is to learn about adoption. The next step is to choose
an adoption agency. Step number three is having a home study completed. Number four is trying to
find a child, and then give your info to the child s agency. After you get info about the child you chose
then you can go meet the child. Step number eight is to get a date where you can actually receive the
child. Next you can finalize everything with the adoption. The final step is to live a happy life.

Tonacatepetl and Hill of Coatepec. Tonacatepetl or Hill of Sustenance s main deity was Tlaloc (god of

Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey
Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer, is one of the most
influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and son
relationships are very important to Greek culture, as evident in the relationship between Odysseus and
Telémakhos in The Odyssey. Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed, Virgil continued
to recognize the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated it into The Aeneid
by focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve into the valued father and
son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek and Roman culture that it has an effect on
the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout The Odyssey and The Aeneid, the relationship between the
father and son is responsible for determining their fate and destiny.
The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons. Throughout
Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the hardships he has to face. His son,
Telémakhos, serves as his motivation for coming home and drives his will to live and fight his
hardships at sea. At one point, Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea raging/
under such winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315). In spite of his moment of weakness, he continues to
fight for his destiny of homecoming to reunite with his son. Telémakhos encourages Odysseus to
achieve his destiny. Likewise,

Darkness Byron Diction
In his poem Darkness Lord Byron gives an apocalyptic view of the world, as he pictured it. The poem
is partially influenced by the mass hysteria of the time brought about by an Italian astronomer. He
predicted that the sun would burn itself out on July 18th, destroying the world. The poem is written in
first person and is packed with sublime imagery. The tone of the poem gives hints to the author s
emotional state of mind at the time. Darkness seems to have been written as a satirical account of what
might have been the public s hysteria during that Summer of Darkness. Byron takes advantage of the

reduce the costs of health care for individuals. There have been several provisions made to the act
since 2010. Within my paper I will be discussing the pros and cons of the ACA, changes that are

they stayed because of the many job opportunities that could provide them with money for their

California spread across the country. In the spring and summertime of that year, trading vessels carried
the news further to a British colony in Hong Kong. Soon, many Chinese began immigrating to

Analysis Of Mind Game Isn T Just A White Coat By Sandra...
To summarize Mind Games: Sometimes a White coat Isn t Just a White Coat article by Sandra
Blakeslee. The article is about an experiment where people pay more attention to a doctor with a white
coat then a painter with a white coat. It s not just the effect of knowing someone is a doctor. The effect
really occurs when that doctor is wearing the coat and knowing its symbolic meaning. Dr. Galinsky
said, our thought processes is based on physical experiences that set off associated abstract concepts,
and now it appears that those experiences include the cloths we wear. The study does not explain why
as humans we do thing it just proves that we do, do it. The study says if people carry a hot drink others

Bruxism Essay
There are significant amount of studies mentioning sleep and wake time bruxism as some of the most
harmful habits among stomatognathic system parafunctional activities, and a plausible cause of joint
overload or muscle damage (or both), and also one of the major roots of temporomandibular disorders
(TMD). The mechanism of how bruxism may result in muscular disorders can be explained as
follows: The impairment of blood flow and swelling caused by increased intramuscular pressure
analogous to other muscles, which results in masticatory muscle discomfort and pain during and
instantly after a sustained contraction; However the exertional pain declines rapidly once the muscle
relaxes and blood flow is restored again. One of the characteristics of ... Show more content on

The macromolecular framework composed by chondrocytes is made of three classes of molecules:
proteoglycans, collagens, and noncollagenous proteins. Various experiments indicate that sheer stress
escalate the amount of nitric oxide released, which plays the role of a reactive oxygen metabolite
involved in joint pathogenesis. The surge of nitric oxide was linked to an increase in chondrocyte
apoptosis. While the exact mechanism of the change in chondrocyte metabolism caused by stress still
remains unknown, this change might accelerate the damage on cartilage resulting from sheer stress.
Therefore, extended clenching of the jaw can result in degenerative changes because of the
overloading happening over time. Sustained muscle contraction due to clenching is linked to an
increase in the sheer stress developed in the disc, which is resulted from the creep deformation caused
by disc compression. (4para) Similar to sustained clenching, in sleep bruxism at the start of movement
the highest maximum sheer stress is applied to the anterior region of disc, while the stress in this
region relax after several minutes, and instead the intermediate region bears the highest maximum
sheer stress. In sleep bruxism, the

My First Job At The Whale s Tale Ice Cream
I gained valuable work experience and specialized skills at various jobs while attending junior school ,
high school and community college. Each job took me out of my comfort zone by meeting new people
whom had different ethics, work experience, and financial backgrounds than my own. My first job
was at The Whale s Tale Ice Cream Shop in the Hamptons, an exclusive vacation destination in New
York. The following summer I put in an application at the Vine Street Cafe which is a high end
restaurant in the Hamptons. That same summer I worked in the morning shift as a busboy for the
Chequit Inn. From this experience I learned that hard work and dedication are key factors to being
successful. Those principles have helped me excel at each job I ve

Oort Cloud Research Paper
For most of the next day, they prepared themselves for the four day excursion through the Oort Cloud.
To make matters worse, they woke up late as the party had lasted until one o clock in the morning!
They used Earth time not only onboard the Odyssey but also on Gnaritus since both planets had
similar spin axes of twenty three and a half degrees. However, Gnaritus solar orbit took three hundred
and seventy four days, resulting in a slightly longer year than on Earth. Consequently, the New Year
celebrations occurred at a slightly different time than on Earth! Nonetheless, Gnaritus had the
privilege of hosting the first human space colony primarily due to its remarkable resemblance to
Earth, more so than any other planet explored so far. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afterward, we will escape the Sun s sphere of influence or the heliopause and enter the interstellar
space between the stars. The Oort Cloud is even larger than the Kuiper Belt, stretching five thousand
to a hundred thousand Astronomical Units or five thousand to a hundred thousand times Earth s
distance from the Sun. More than a trillion long period comets with solar orbits of more than two
hundred years originate in the Oort Cloud. Furthermore, the Oort Cloud is so far away that some
comets orbit the Sun once in thirty million Earth years. It will take four days to navigate through this
vast Oort Cloud depending, of course, on our progress. The safety precautions are similar to those on
our journey through the Kuiper Belt such as remaining in the main cabin with seat belts on if possible.
Additionally, you will dine only in the main cabin and no longer in the dining compartment. If you
need to walk around or go to the bathroom, a steward will accompany you for your safety. Instead of
showering, you will find a cleaning scepter in your storage cabinets. Our goal is to make you as
comfortable as possible through the next phase of our voyage across the Milky Way! Further lectures
will resume once we reach interstellar

Factors Influencing Nursing Among Nurses
Title: Factors influencing professionalism in nursing among nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia.
INTRODUCTION
Statement of the problem
Healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia are very dependent on expatriate nurses to meet the demands
of health staffing, a situation exacerbated by the current global nursing shortages and retention issues
(Almalki, Fitzgerald, Clark, 2011). I propose to study the factors that influence the professionalism in
nursing amongst nurses from different countries in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. I am particularly
interested in this field as I have encountered nurses behaving unprofessionally in a hospital setting.
According to Miller, Adams and Beck (1993), formal education in a university setting and education
with a scientific background are critical for professionalism in nursing. A study done by Rees,
Monrouxe, and McDonald (2015), expressed that while nursing students are shown professionalism
through formal educational module, they ordinarily encounter workplace based professionalism
dilemmas that are frequently created by registered nurses. Peer relationships in nursing is also
important in maintaining the standards of professionalism (Padgett, 2013).
Purpose of the study
The purpose of the study is to determine the factors influencing professionalism in nursing among
nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Theoretical framework
The theoretical framework that I would use in this research paper is the Hall s

Kellogg Case Study
Introduction
When preparing a strategy for success, a business needs to be clear about what it wants to achieve. It
needs to know how it is going to turn its desires into reality in the face of intense competition. Setting
clear and specific aims and objectives is vital for a business to compete. However, a business must
also be aware of why it is different to others in the same market. This case study looks at the
combination of these elements and shows how Kellogg prepared a successful strategy by setting aims
and objectives linked to its unique brand. One of the most powerful tools that organisations use is
branding. A brand is a name, design, symbol or major feature that helps to identify one or more
products from a business or organisation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These were designed to meet the stated aim and range of business objectives. In the area of food
labelling, Kellogg introduced the Kellogg s GDAs to its packaging, showing the recommended
Guideline Daily Amounts. These GDAs allow consumers to understand what amount of the
recommended daily levels of nutrients is in a serving of Kellogg s food. Working with a group of other
major manufacturers, Kellogg introduced a new format in May 2006, with GDAs clearly identified on
brand products and packages. These GDAs have been adopted by other manufacturers and retailers
such as TESCO. For many years Kellogg has been working to encourage people to take part in more
physical activity. The company started working with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) as far
back as 1997, with whom it set some longer term objectives. More than twelve million people in the
UK swim regularly. Swimming is inclusive as it is something that whole families can do together and
it is also a life long skill. The ASA tries to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy
swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle . As a lead body for swimming, the ASA has been a good
organisation for Kellogg to work with, as its objectives match closely those of the company. Kellogg
became the main sponsor of swimming in Britain. This ensured that Kellogg s sponsorship reached all

Apostles Of Disunion Analysis
Ivan Ramirez
Professor Sandy

Charles Dew s Apostles Of Disunion
The central thesis of this book is that the secession commissioners that were sent Deep South to other
slave states in the winter of 1860 1861 played a major role in defending as well as urging people to
subscribe to their ideology and follow them out of the Union. This thesis helps in giving insights in the
South s real intention, which can be argued out that it was to defend its slave trade culture that the
North was totally against hence the use of secession as a means of convincing people. Even though the
historians mostly ignore these men that were involved in the secession, these men played a vital role
in the creation of the beautiful country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very vital as it helps one to understand their real intention prior to going to the war and if it had
any impact on their perception of things. The nature of the text also makes it easy for the target
audience to grasp what they are being told. To begin with most of the students do not really like very
long and detailed books, for this reason the author that is Dew makes the text to be just eight pages
this makes it very easy for majority of the target audience to read it clearly as well as it evokes their
real intention to clearly interact with the content this is explained the fewer number of pages. The style
of writing is another key thing that makes it very easy for anyone to understand the text used in this
particular case. It is very easy and jargon free. This makes it very easy for both scholars and members
of the general public to interact with it without challenges. The representative documents are well
chosen in that they can start off conversations among people. There are various themes that are well
outline in this book, some of these themes include the one on secession and its impact, another one is
the theme of slavery and slave trade and finally the theme of war is also much highlighted. Depending
on one s level technicality as well as understanding, the three themes may be able to be viewed in
various aspects. The existence of appendix and a minimum of notes make it appealing to the students
more so for the classroom

Intro to Meteorology Week 4 Essay
1) Which of the six colors of the rainbow is refracted the greatest?
Out of the 7 colors of the rainbow, Violet is refracted the greatest.
2) What is a mirage and why does it always disappear as the observer gets closer?
A mirage is a naturally occurring optical phenomenon in which light rays are bent to produce a
displaced image of distant objects or the sky. Mirages appear at very low viewing angles, when you
are far away. As you approach, the viewing angle increases and the mirage disappears, or moves
farther away. The reflection of heat dissipates in the human eye causing the mirage or blur to vanish.

The same cloud that is not fog on lower ground may be fog where it contacts higher ground such as
hilltops or mountain ridges. A cloud is a visible mass of condensed droplets or ice crystals suspended
in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or another planetary body. The branch of
meteorology in which clouds are studied is nephrology.
13) If you see towering puffy clouds in the afternoon, you are probably seeing what kind of cloud?
A cumulonimbus Cloud.
What does this mean for the weather forecast this afternoon and early evening?
Cumulonimbus clouds are mostly affiliated with thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, blizzard or
hail. The forecast should reflect rain or chances of rain.
14) What is a weather satellite and how does it help us make forecasts?
A weather satellite is used by meteorologists to gather information about the weather. Weather
satellites give meteorologists a view of weather patterns over a very large area. This enables
meteorologists to track large weather patterns and make more accurate predictions of future weather
behavior.
15) How do computers help weather forecasting?
Using computers in meteorology helps weather forecasters analyze the atmosphere by drawing
weather maps separately for each of several atmospheric levels. Then the computer can put it all
together and generate a prediction.
Can we just let the computer tell us what the weather will be without human

Diversity In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Cody Ebner
Ms. Dudley
World Lit to 1650 ENGL2337 41
December 8, 2016
Current day Characters
Chaucer wrote about many people, who he might not have known at all. Chaucer s ideas for his
characters could have stemmed from people he saw when he worked as the controller of customs or
some of his other jobs when he traveled around medieval Europe. Chaucer s diversity in his story is
what made The Canterbury Tales so good in my opinion as it seemed to have different perspectives of
different people even though Chaucer wrote the whole thing. His characters showed such a diversity
that made it sound like these people actually wrote it themselves or told Chaucer what to write. If
Chaucer was alive today he could write about anyone as if he knew about them from the moment he
saw them.
Chaucer s Knight was said to be like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The military is about courage, honor, and if it comes to it self sacrifice. A knight needed those
attributes as well. General George S. Patton is like the knight he was someone of another class like the
knight as being a knight was a class in itself and being a member of the military is like being in
another class as you are not a civilian anymore. General Patton said something a knight might say as
Patton said this in his famous quote Grant to our armed forces that disciplined valor and mutual
confidence which insures success in war. Let me not morn for the men who have died fighting, but
rather let me be glad that such heros have lived. If it be my lot to die, let me do so with courage and
honor . (Dunn) General Patton and Chaucer s Knight have common footing as both care about
courage, honor, and valor. The similarities between the Knight and General Patton is what makes it
easier for Chaucer to write about him as General Patton could be considered a modern day knight.
Chaucer even had some similarities to even Patton himself as both served in a major

  • 2. The Lasting Legacy of Thomas Jefferson thomas Jefferson The Lasting Legacy of Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson is one of the most influential presidents of the United States. Along with his successes and failures he proved to be a great president by leaving his legacy s behind. A legacy is something someone has had handed down or left for future generations. Thomas Jefferson is one of the most influential people that left their legacies behind because his presidency commenced the quarter century rule of the Virginia Dynasty. He was also known for his hospitality towards the central government as well as the judicial branch of the Supreme Court. In the private and public affairs Thomas Jefferson has been a great democratic icon because he knew the peoples power and knew the public s point of view, he also knew what the public wanted. The United States had the strongest Government on earth, Jefferson told his fellow Americans in according to his first Inaugural Address on March 4, 1801. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. As a young child Jefferson was a very intellectual boy. Jefferson s first childhood memory was at the age of three, he took his father s slaves in the Virginia wilderness. This was when Jefferson s family moved to a plantation that was under the control of Thomas Jefferson s father. Thomas Jefferson and his family spent six years wandering around the woods and studying his books. When Jefferson was the age of nine that was when his formal studies began. ... • 3. A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet, again with a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the saxophone and trumpet are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano it is like a slight drizzle of rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in with a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to be conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or stumbling. As the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a homophonic texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures of the bass, piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal of tension with made for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting and stopping, stumbling. The piece ended with a short, but complete cadence that resolved the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Importance Of Achievement Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone else. But, other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try to be best they can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and school only impact certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think they do not need schooling to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over achievers, and then there are people who just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that grades do not impact everyone s achievements because some people do not worry about school and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17, trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th grade. I have strived for better grades because that is how I feel achievement. I ... This topic is significant due to the ongoing debate about how WWI started and because of the debt some countries only recently, have paid off. In 1914, the country to declare the first war was Austria Hungary s(AH) declaration of war on Serbia. Following this was Serbia s ally, Russia, who mobilized its troops in preparation, and Germany soon after declaring war on the russians. As the snowball effect came into place, countries such as France, the United Kingdom and Belgium followed in declaring different wars amongst each other. This resulted in the start of World War I. It began in 1914 one of the greatest wars in all of history, ending almost five years after in November of 1918. The causes of WWI, will continuously spark debates between people, as there were so many countries involved. Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I am also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health and wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that states that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from the word humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of the earth and the four elements. The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and cause certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that a disease was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three theories differ because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and understanding diseases. The Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical theory allowed us to take a deeper look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us to learn what was happening in the body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these two studies we would not have come to the Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different in concept each theory was important and we would not have been able to progress along to the next theory. If we would not have had the germ theory we would not have discovered the need for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories also allowed physicians to learn to look at diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro scale or big picture. I feel that these theories have led to significant changes in health care over the years. These theories have allowed scientist to discover not only how to cure some disease but also how to prevent diseases from spreading. Scientists were able to develop vaccines, antiseptics, create personal protective equipment and enabled the public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Analysis Of The Essay Medfield, Massachusetts By John... Turns Out You Can Take the Country Out Of the Boy In the essay Medfield, Massachusetts, Author John Preston recounts his childhood growing up in a small town. He recalls deep rooted connections to the community and to the history of Medfield. At first it appears that Preston s identification to his role as a member of his hometown is secure, but as he later reveals, an irreconcilable identity conflict develops which causes him to make a very difficult choice. The theory of the formation of in groups and their impact on how an individual s identity is formed offers some insight into what change is taking place to Preston s identity that will eventually cause him to seek acceptance in a new reference group outside of Medfield, the town he felt so much a part of in his youth. In his often cited essay, The Formation of In Groups, Gordon Allport offers his theory on how the groups with which one identifies directly influence the development of one s individual identity. An in group is a group where members share common traits such as societal status, religion, values or sexual orientation. All the members are alike in some way and that similarity unites them as a group. Allport suggests that one belongs to many in groups throughout his or her lifetime. This is because a lot of errors on a HCI can make the user slow down when interacting with the HCI, but if there are not that much errors then it can be known as an effective HCI, because the user can use it effectively without having to troubleshoot. The effectiveness of HCI can be measured by the understanding of the user and to what extent the user has the knowledge and understanding of the HCI. • 23. Selfhood In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour During the late of the nineteenth century, the American society had witnessed the abolishment of slavery, but still women had no right to vote until 1920. It makes sense, then, that freedom and feminine selfhood would be of great concern to the forerunners of modern feminism. Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour was written in April 1894. In this story, initiated by the false news of Louise Mallard s husband s death in a train accident, Chopin presents us with a picture of a subjugated female protagonist feeling a powerful joy for the death of her husband that will give a promising path of freedom. Chopin s exploration of the themes of feminine selfhood, the yearning for freedom, independence and new life and of what she calls the possession of self assertion is vividly displayed in a rich and colorful ... It takes place in the Malards residence, the home of Brently and Louise Mallard and it starts in a public setting, probably the living room or even the kitchen because people are gathered there, where Josephine reveals, very gently, to her sister that her husband is passed away after a horrible train accident. The scope of this story is actually super limited: The primary action of the story occurs within the Mallards home and it is striking that besides the fact that female characters, and only, are always inside the house, the characters that entered it did never leave it, as if they are caged in. Equally, Mrs. Mallard seems to be pretty confined to the house because she was afflicted with a heart trouble . Her heart being physically sick is very symbolic of her emotional and psychic state of sickness caused by her feelings being trapped in her marital life of subjugation. The idea of confinement is widely reinforced by the image of the internal doors , not only the external ones, being firmly locked by the aid of a latchkey which was opened only once during the ... Unlike their counterparts in many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues that have resulted in the former s emergence. A cross country analysis between Japan and America will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly Westernised Japan and the West itself. Yaeba ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures (Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion. Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous prominent Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase cute , ubiquitous in the descriptions . Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus, 2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with women possessing child like appearance also seems to be sexualising women (Considine, 2011) into symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for ... King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Regardless, it had also drawn Hawaii as nation under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during this Hawaiian Renaissance completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is truly an important aspect of what it came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was preserved. • 28. Heart Of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad Essay The author of Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad, and the author of Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe, both present two stories written in completely different perspectives on the way whites and African s view each other. These two men also lived in completely different time eras than each other, along with opposite life styles which affected their view on their writings, for Joseph Conrad lived in the late 1800 s, born in Ukraine, and Chinua Achebe in the early 1900 s, born in Nigeria. Man s fallen nature plays a large role in Heart of Darkness and in Things Fall Apart, through the way that the characters view other people in the books. The white characters tend to view the Africans as savages; however, they actually have great abilities that they do not know of. Man s fallen nature also affects how the characters interact with each other in man vs man, since the white do not view the Africans in the same way, they will think lowly of the Africans and treat them with disrespect. Throughout the stories of Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart, man s fallen nature is seen throughout the communication with white s and Africans, this can be seen through how they think of each other and their actions from man s fallen nature through man vs man. You would never have to think about anything ever again, but Aldous Huxley, the writer of Brave New World and Michael Bay, the director of The Island, both attempt to depict the dangers of this utopia . Although Brave New World and The Island both successfully communicate satire, Brave New World is better at eliciting people to think and change. In both Brave New World and The Island, one aspect that communicates satire is the lack of individual thought. For example, in both, everyone in the community has predetermined jobs. In Huxley s novel, everyone is assigned a job based on their caste level; in Bay s film, people automatically learn a job to advance society after being cloned. This shows the degree of a government s control over the population. The societies represented here closely resemble totalitarianism, [a] form of government that subordinates all aspects of its citizens lives to the authority of the state, with a single charismatic leader as the ultimate authority (Merriam Webster.com). Because nearly everything is designated to people or enforced strictly, people do not think for themselves. Although this creates a stable society, it also creates a mindless society. Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer, is one of the most influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and son relationships are very important to Greek culture, as evident in the relationship between Odysseus and Telémakhos in The Odyssey. Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed, Virgil continued to recognize the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated it into The Aeneid by focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve into the valued father and son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek and Roman culture that it has an effect on the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout The Odyssey and The Aeneid, the relationship between the father and son is responsible for determining their fate and destiny. The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons. Throughout Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the hardships he has to face. His son, Telémakhos, serves as his motivation for coming home and drives his will to live and fight his hardships at sea. At one point, Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea raging/ under such winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315). Pros and Cons: The ACA is not all bad it has provided the opportunity for more Americans to have insurance within the U.S. It requires insurance companies to cover a person s essential health care needs such as preventive care visits, maternity and newborn care, mental and behavioral, lab test, pediatric care, prescriptions drugs, outpatient care, emergency room services, and hospitalization, and people with preexisting conditions cannot be denied by insurance companies nor can they drop them, or raise premiums once they get sick. They were welcomed with harsh treatments and little payment for jobs. Still, they stayed because of the many job opportunities that could provide them with money for their families back in China. On January 24, 1848, the gold rush began. News of the gold found in California spread across the country. In the spring and summertime of that year, trading vessels carried the news further to a British colony in Hong Kong. Soon, many Chinese began immigrating to California. By 1851, about 25,000 Chinese had already left their homes, most of them coming from the Guangdong or Canton region. They were all trying to escape war, famine, ... This was because they were viewed as competition in the gold mines. Some accused of the Chinese immigrants of stealing jobs and lowering wages. They were eventually forced to live in the inner city ghettos. This was how Chinatown was founded. During this time, many Anti Chinese riots occurred in Chinese areas. According to an issue of the Alta California, 200 hundred Chinese miners were robbed and four were murdered in an area of California called Rich Gulch. Bruxism Essay There are significant amount of studies mentioning sleep and wake time bruxism as some of the most harmful habits among stomatognathic system parafunctional activities, and a plausible cause of joint overload or muscle damage (or both), and also one of the major roots of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The mechanism of how bruxism may result in muscular disorders can be explained as follows: The impairment of blood flow and swelling caused by increased intramuscular pressure analogous to other muscles, which results in masticatory muscle discomfort and pain during and instantly after a sustained contraction; However the exertional pain declines rapidly once the muscle relaxes and blood flow is restored again. The macromolecular framework composed by chondrocytes is made of three classes of molecules: proteoglycans, collagens, and noncollagenous proteins. Various experiments indicate that sheer stress escalate the amount of nitric oxide released, which plays the role of a reactive oxygen metabolite involved in joint pathogenesis. The surge of nitric oxide was linked to an increase in chondrocyte apoptosis. While the exact mechanism of the change in chondrocyte metabolism caused by stress still remains unknown, this change might accelerate the damage on cartilage resulting from sheer stress. Therefore, extended clenching of the jaw can result in degenerative changes because of the overloading happening over time. Sustained muscle contraction due to clenching is linked to an increase in the sheer stress developed in the disc, which is resulted from the creep deformation caused by disc compression. • 49. Factors Influencing Nursing Among Nurses Title: Factors influencing professionalism in nursing among nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. INTRODUCTION Statement of the problem Healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia are very dependent on expatriate nurses to meet the demands of health staffing, a situation exacerbated by the current global nursing shortages and retention issues (Almalki, Fitzgerald, Clark, 2011). I propose to study the factors that influence the professionalism in nursing amongst nurses from different countries in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. I am particularly interested in this field as I have encountered nurses behaving unprofessionally in a hospital setting. According to Miller, Adams and Beck (1993), formal education in a university setting and education with a scientific background are critical for professionalism in nursing. A study done by Rees, Monrouxe, and McDonald (2015), expressed that while nursing students are shown professionalism through formal educational module, they ordinarily encounter workplace based professionalism dilemmas that are frequently created by registered nurses. Peer relationships in nursing is also important in maintaining the standards of professionalism (Padgett, 2013). Purpose of the study The purpose of the study is to determine the factors influencing professionalism in nursing among nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Theoretical framework The theoretical framework that I would use in this research paper is the Hall s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diversity In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Cody Ebner Ms. Dudley World Lit to 1650 ENGL2337 41 December 8, 2016 Current day Characters Chaucer wrote about many people, who he might not have known at all. Chaucer s ideas for his characters could have stemmed from people he saw when he worked as the controller of customs or some of his other jobs when he traveled around medieval Europe. Chaucer s diversity in his story is what made The Canterbury Tales so good in my opinion as it seemed to have different perspectives of different people even though Chaucer wrote the whole thing. His characters showed such a diversity that made it sound like these people actually wrote it themselves or told Chaucer what to write.
