Ww2 Environmental Effects
World War II is one of the finest examples of a total war. Countries around the world mobilized vast
empires to fight battles in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Resource production and weapon
experimentation marred the environment, causing repercussions still visible today. However, some
consequences of the war benefited the environment, complicating the Second World War s
environmental history. Gerard Weinberg, in his text World War II: A Very Short Introduction,
focuses on Hitler s War in Europe. He ignores the ways the war shaped the environment, and how
the environment shaped the methods of warfare. Environmental destruction during WWII
influences modern life in places around the world, but it was not warfare that destroyed most of the
environment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WWII s cataclysmic warfare had little, if any, permanent impact on the environment; however,
weapons experimentation in numerous places have caused permanent destruction of natural
habitats. Gruinard Island, known as the Isle of Death, is where British scientists experimented
with anthrax spores as a potential biological weapon on the island in 1942 and 1943. Anthrax is
highly contagious, and may enter the body through an open wound, by being ingested with
undercooked meat, or by inhalation of the spores. Scientists tested the anthrax spores on Gruinard
Island in a variety of ways that lead to the complete contamination of the island, including deep
into the soil. The British never used anthrax as a biological weapon, but after the war, the island
was too deadly to return to its owners. From 1948 to 1968, scientists tested the soil, and each time
found it to have unsafe levels of anthrax. In 1979, because of mounting threats from the public, the
government performed an in depth examination of the land and found the spores had lost little
potency. The cool climate kept the spores dormant, but there were fears that a warm weather period
could produce a second generation of anthrax. Gruinard s most contaminated areas underwent an
extreme decontamination process, and after allowing sheep to graze on

I Love Monologue
There are places in my heart that are yours alone. In them I linger, thinking of you. As you
plunge your quivering lips into mine, I gasp for my final breath in the softness of your mouth
with teardrops in our kiss. Closing my eyes to this bittersweet suffocation, memories of our first
emerge... Your lips break free from mine, our fingers untwined. I watch you drifting from my
touch as you dance into the night. Your flowered summer dress barely touches you and I envy
the glow of streetlights, kissing the silk of your skin. Midnight breezes rush toward my way as I
savour your alluring perfume; my sweet intoxication. You re my ecstasy. Your whispers caress my
addiction. The inviting air of your radiance evokes my desire to join your melodic waltz within the
shadows surrounding us. There s only silence, yet music still resonates in the tranquillity of night.
Our slow dances in darkness are the embraces I ve longed for, through aeons in space and time....

near to you, for the infinite wonders above could never compare to your beauty. Here in your arms
with your gentle breath upon my face, the rhythm of your heart is my lullaby. I finally understand

Fashion Change over the Decades
How the change in fashion over the decades has represents ones particular lifestyle Introduction
Fashion is a way of expressing one s self through clothing which could be influenced by a
particular era or group fighting for a cause or representing a certain groups with the same
interests. This essay aims to highlight how a group of people have a certain persona that can be
so large that it will influence the way they dress and their beliefs and lifestyle. This analysed
over decades. In each paragraph I am going to highlight how a specific group or event that
occurred in the particular decade influenced the fashion in America. My conclusion will
basically prove my thesis. Fashion in the 1970 s The 1970s was the decade of the mods and the
hippies. Men and women were wearing tight pants and bell bottoms were also huge in the 70 s.
At times it was difficult to make a clear distinction of what was seen appropriate for home and
what was seen appropriate for a night out. Women were seen pairing low cut pants with high cut
boots, ....this was probably also the first full decade in which women could be seen wearing
pants in every walk of life. retro waste. Available from: www.retrowaste.com/1970s/fashion in the

do things a little out of the norm like Queen who had bisexual member in his band and at those
times it was seen as an abomination to be into people of the same sex.

How First Person Narration Affects The Overall Story
There are lots of better writer and novelist in the world who have given so many books and
novels for reading, I have read some of them and some are discussed with everyone. There are
famous writers like A. A. Milne, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, J K Rowling,
Lewis Carroll and the list does not end here. They have given books for fiction, Children s
Literature, Literature, plays, short stories, Biographies, Fantasy, Poetry, and so on... First of all,
what is First person narration? The first person narration is The Story is told by a character that
participates in the action of the story itself. First person Narrativeis used by an author who wants a
personal/subjective/intimate point of view . In this essay, I will discuss the ways that first person
narration affects the overall story which contains many things like Plot, settings of the story,
Characters, the point of view, tone, irony, and symbolism. The story also contains many things for
the third person too. But apart from all this, I m going to discuss the effects of the first person

Amanda Ripley Education
The United States is considered to be one of the biggest powerhouses in the world, but when it
comes to education in the U.S, we re consider to be average. How is it that other nations who aren t
as powerful as the U.S, be ahead us in education? Examples of these nations are South Korea,
Finland, and Poland. Amanda Ripley sought to find an answer to this question. Amanda Ripley
followed three foreign exchange students who visited these three nations to see what made their
educationsystem superior than the U.S . She documented her journey in the book The World s

Socrates Real Person
Was Socrates Really a Real Person?
(A discussion of how Socrates was influential and intriguing using Plato s Republic) To learn
about the past, people in today s society often consult the internet or history books. To an extent,
all we know about the past is from what we have read or heard, so what is actually truth, and
what is just a captivating story. Scholars believe that some people from history are just made up
to portray ideals or tell a story with an important message. Socrates was a real man, but some
scholars believe that some of Socrates beliefs are truly just Plato, his student, writing things and
saying that Socrates believed in them. The world today has virtually no idea whether Socrates
believed everything that is recorded in Plato s Republic. Socrates, as portrayed in Plato s Republic,
is extremely intriguing because of the way he communicates with people with his sarcasm and use
of his Socratic method to teach. In Plato s Republic, Socrates is portrayed as a man who answers
everything in a way that avoids actually answering any questions. Socrates wants the people he is
talking with to think for themselves so he never gives a definitive answer when asked a question.
Instead of talking clearly, Socrates talks with thick sarcasm. Holding a conversation with someone
is a sort of game to Socrates, so almost everything he says is shrouded with sarcasm and double
meanings. Why does Socrates play with people s minds with sarcasm and intrigue? Socrates was

Student Self-Assessment Reflection

Student Self Assessment Reflection
When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would
be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self
assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading
, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The
student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down
(not yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a
failure. After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down
with them, take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses.
For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled
thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading.
Student N also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student
if they read a lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video
games and watching TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they
liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By
their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family
member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a
good reader and I don t have a problem finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their
reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading.
Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him
that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also
shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This
will help me build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when
they are reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their

Knowledge And Shared Knowledge
Knowledge is defined to be facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education.
There are two categories that fall under knowledge; personal knowledge and shared knowledge.
Shared knowledge refers to what we know because. It can also be defined as communicated and
constructed knowledge; within culture, social norms, and semiotics. Personal knowledge refers to
I know because. An expanded definition of personal knowledge refers to personal experiences,
values, and perceptions. Shared knowledge changes and evolves over time because of methods
that are continuously shared. It is assembled by a group of people. Personal knowledge, on the
other hand, depends crucially on the experiences of a particular individual. It is gained... Show more

He was an Italian physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, and engineer who played a
large role in the scientific revolution (1564 1642). Galileo was often faced with controversial
arguments about his findings. Based on the shared knowledge of the Catholic Church, it tried to
compress the personal knowledge of Galileo. This is where the idea of personal and shared
knowledge shaping each other comes into perspective, as Galileo was continuously faced with the
knowledge of the Church. Continuously his personal knowledge was rejected, because shared
knowledge had such an influence among the people. His hypothesis frightened both the Protestant
leaders and Catholic Church because it went against their teachings and authority. If people
believed that the church could be wrong about this, they would question the church teachings as
well. The Church warned Galileo of his theories, however silently he continued to research. The
Church s greatest fear was that Galileo s personal knowledge would ultimately change the shared
knowledge of the Church. In 1632, he published a book which presented both of the ideas of
Copernicus and Ptolemy, and it was clear that Galileo supported the Copernican theory which stated
that the Earth moved around the Sun. Galileo was sentenced to court and found guilty. Under
torture, he admitted his findings were false. Only in 1992, the Catholic Church

The criminal justice system is responsible for enforcing the laws created at each level of
government. A major part of enforcing the laws is detaining the people who break them. The way
that an offender is punished for a crime can be different depending on age or the type of crime
committed. Depending on the age of the offender they could go through the juvenile or adult

With jails and prisons facing an increasing overpopulation problem, with less staff, and budget cuts
more and more probation, parole, and community corrections are becoming a solution (manhattan

case classification system (Burrell, 2003). This system allows the parole board to classify which
cases should be considered for early release and which ones should not. Once a case is determined
to be eligible for parole, then probation uses the case classification system to decide if the case is
high risk or low risk (manhattan institute.org, 2000). Community corrections becomes a part of the
parole and probation services once the inmate is released into the community by operating
residential and secure custodial facilities and provide free labor to local organizations through
community service programs, probation and parole are best known for their role in the supervision
of offenders in the community (Burrell, 2003, p. 1). The administration in jails, prisons, parole,

Types of Policing
Policing is to regulate, control, or keep in order with a law enforcement agency or other official
group. It is a job done every minute of every hour of everyday by men and women willing to risk
their health and life. To make the job easier different styles or types of policing methods have been
developed. Some of the most influential types of policing include community oriented policing,
problem oriented policing and intelligence led policing. Community oriented policing or
community policing, is a policing strategy that focuses on working closely with and building ties
with members of the community. Community policing involves the use of partnerships between
municipal agencies, businesses, individual citizens, non profit groups and the media in order to
develop methods to police the community. It requires police to take a proactive approach to
address public safety concerns. Community policing covers a variety of philosophical and
practical approaches and is still evolving rapidly. Community policing strategies vary depending on
the needs and responses of the communities involved; however, certain basic principles and
considerations are common to all community policing efforts. Today s community policing has its
origins in the 1960s. The 1960s saw its fair share of urban riots and gang activity. Police often
responded to these criminal actions with brute force, and the

titled Carnivore Leadership, he uses full range leadership, specifically, the application of idealized
influence in order to lead airmen through tough times. He does this by charging leaders with setting
the example for our airmen, which is part of what the full range leadershiplesson discuses by
portraying the leader as a role model. According to the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted

by initially creating a felt need for change. Chief Colon Lopez (2013) discusses being always

including the physical training uniform as a symbol of loyalty and commitment to service.
These are all principles that display what a leader with idealized influenced should do. In other
words as it is also known talk the talk and walk the walk or actually doing what we preach. Chief
Colon Lopez (2013) notes, Let your expectations be known, all while leading from the front and
setting the pace (p. 6). He is charging the leaders to make sure that the airmen know what is
expected of them as well as to go out and be the example for them by setting the pace and let
them emulate you. This reflects what an idealized influenced leader should do. Chief Colon
Lopez is trying to change the way our culture thinks and looks at our standards of physical
training and dress and appearance. To do this one of the first processes that we must take is to

What Is The Purpose Of Animals In Entertainment
Animals in Entertainment When people think of going to the circus, the first thing that they
usually think of is seeing animals doing amazing tricks that they wish their family cat or dog could
do. The thing that most people do not know, is that these animals are being treated very cruelly so
that circus owners can make money off of people coming to see these animals in action. All over the
world, animals are being used for the purpose of human entertainment. When going to the circus,
most people never stop and think about what really is happening to the animalsfeatured in this
form of entertainment. Some people may even think that these animals are living a great life, they
are always being taken care of by humans, they have a place to live, and they never have to worry
about predators or finding their own prey. The truth is, the animals that are being utilized for the
purpose of human entertainment are living horrible lives and are not suited to live in the
environments that they are being placed in. Humans who are surrounding themselves with these
animals also are putting themselves in severe danger. The animals that are part of the circus are not
supposed to be in captivity, they are supposed to be living in the wild where they are able to fight
and fend for themselves, not depend on others to survive. Eventually, an animal s natural instincts
will come out, forcing the animal to want to attack and harm someone. What is worst about taking
animals into captivity, is

Mining and The Environment Essay examples
Introduction In our days, mining for resources is inevitable. The resources we need are valuable
in everyday life. Such resources mined up are coal, copper, gold, silver, and sand. However,
mining poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up
effecting us humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have
occurred.
History and Case Studies of Mining and the Effects on the Environment Mines pose a threat to the
environment. They can degrade soil and water quality if left untreated. The United States

These left over tailings create human and ecological health problems that can be caused from
exposure to the dust that are blown from these mine sites since metal toxicants can persist in tailing
particles (arizona.edu, 2008). Another threat to the environment is acid mine drainage (also known
as acid rock drainage). Acid mine drainage is the outflow of acidic water from a mining site. This
acid is formed by the oxidation of iron sulfide. The oxidation occurs when iron sulfide is
exposed to the air or to dissolved oxygen in the water, which causes the iron to rust and the sulfur
reacts with the water to forum sulfuric acid (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010).
Figure 2 illustrates the sulfuric acid that is formed. Acid mine drainage is most common with
hardrock mines where metal ore is bound together with sulfur. The increased acidity created from
acid mine drainage has a series of negative effects, depending on the severity of change in the pH
level. The acid mine drainage creates inhospitable environments to aquatic life in river systems
and former mine sites, with the exception of extremophile bacteria (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and
Higman, B., 2010). Acid mine drainage can severely degrade the quality of the water, especially if
it s a essential water supply.
Solutions There are two primary methods of preventing acid mine drainage fall. One is preventing
sulfuric acid from forming, and the other is neutralizing the acid after it forms. In

The Bus Lane At Lion s Park Train Station
The number nine bus, packed full of students eager to get home, pulled into the bus lane at Lion s
Park train station. Halfway there, I thought, happy to be done with another stressful day of classes.
After most of the other passengers disembark to board the train, those of us which stay on the bus
each have our own seats.
The bus driver steps off the bus, as he does each day, to smoke a cigarette. Each day I
contemplate how the complex interplay of individuals can become simple routine, reduced to the
same exhausted ride to school every morning, matched to the seemingly endless ride home every
afternoon. I wouldn t be able to cope with the chaos that some people enjoy, I prefer my simple,
reliable routines. Nevertheless, every day I contemplate the paths each of the passengers had to
follow for this scene to play out as it does each day. The path that inevitably leads to me sitting on
the bus and watching the driver smoke his cigarette at the same time, in the same place, five out of
seven days a week.
I look up to another familiar scene playing out beyond the Plexiglas windows of the bus: a group
of homeless men passing their days exposed to the elements. Some are splayed out across the
lawns of an adjacent office building, others are digging in the cracks of the pavement for cigarette

Introduction The rapid pace of Globalization has led to a change in the global economy during the
past several decades; it is believe that factors such as trade liberalisation, access to cheaper labour

global scale. These globalization driven factors created new challenges and global competition for
businesses around the world thus as a response many companies decided to expand their operation

Managing HR in MNC is different from the way the HR is being managed in the country,
According to Morgan (1986) there are three factors that differentiate between IHRM and domestic
HR: First, the countries of operations such as the country where a subsidiary may be located, the
host country where the subsidiaries are located, and other countries. Second, the different types of
employee, in international environment the HR management have to deal with the host country
nationals (HCNs), expatriates or home country nationals (PCNs) and third country nationals
(TCNs), for example if L Oreal hired an Indonesian employee in their Indonesian subsidiary the
employee is a HCNs, and when manager from L Oreal Headquarter in France came to work in
Indonesian subsidiary the manager is a PCNs, and if L Oreal employs manager neither from
Indonesia nor France to work in their Indonesian subsidiary the manager is TCNs. Third, is the way
HR practices (eg. staffing, compensation, training, and etc) are conducted. Although IHR practices
seems to have the same activities as domestic HR, in IHR the manager will be dealing with
different environment and diversity of employees from different cultural background. Moreover, as
mentioned earlier dissimilarities between domestic and international HR management mostly due
to profound differences between host and home countries in term of culture,

The Influence Of Neo Confucianism On China
In china there has been no central rule in China for 70 years until the Song Dynasty created in
960. Things started to change in China, for example, the government started to aid the poor a lot
more than what they have in the past. They were getting this money from the newly introduced
income tax. This made a lot of people happy and everyone started to have more patriotism and
pride. This pride gave the government a feel of legitimacy. Some of the major things the
government is paying for is the roads, food, and education. Pottery at this time helps out the
economy in China, because the pottery is so advanced that it was being exported for good money
and it also led more people to come to China. Even though China was number one in the world for
many things like technology and a sophisticated culture they were weak military wise (Holcombe
p.127). Neo Confucianism was also created in the Song Dynasty. Neo Confucianism was
Confucianism put together with Taoism, which was the ying and the yang, which was also put with
Buddhism. This new patriotism also led to xenophobia in the country which leads to irrational
decisions in the future. As time when on the Song Dynasty would lose some land to smaller
dynasties who took over smaller parts to China in the south. Despite this the economy amazingly
boomed during this time where the Chinese call the medieval economic revolution (Holcombe p.
130). Trading had a big role in this economic revolution. Archeologists have uncovered

Medieval Manor Essay
Liana Minguela
1) Describe a medieval manor. How did it work and what agricultural methods governed its
existence? Was it efficient ?
A medieval manor is a region owned by lords, noblemen, kings, or monasteries and were home to
free and unfree peasants who work for the lord. The size of manors varied, according to the wealth
of the owner, from 120 to several thousand acres including several villages within the manor.
Typical manors had manor houses which were built apart from the villages where peasants
lived.Cultivable land of manors was divided into two sections. The first being the home farm, or a

These roles included labor on the farm. Women worked with men in the fields to cultivate wheat
and grain and harvest crops. Many women were hired as day laborers by lords of great estates,
this backbreaking work in the fields was difficult for women though due to frequent pregnancies.
The women of the house sold produce from their garden or kitchen for cash for their family s
income. Women of medieval society were the head of the household. Women had to learn about
their husband s work so that they can continue to do his work while he was away and take over
his business if he were to die. Widows had their own responsibilities as well as the power of their
deceased husband, proving that the women did hold considerable power in the family unit.
Outside of the household, women were very dominant in the production of ale for their
community. The production of ale was very dangerous since it did involve carrying 12 gallons
vats of hot liquid, 5 percent of women died falling into the vats of boiling liquid. Women also
baked bread, the mainstay diet of peasants. They baked bread once a week and women also made
cheese, where goats, sheeps, and cows were raised. The household was where women spent most
if not all of their time and work. They also helped their husbands with their job. While some say
that the men were the head of the household, more agree that the women were the head of the
household and are responsible for everything in

minor illness has the potential to be devastating, while major illnesses can be fatal. Fortunately,
America has several programs to increase access to health care, such as Medicare and Medicaid.
The most important of these reforms is the Affordable Care Act, signed into law in 2010. Many
people question the existence of programs like the ACA due to perceived drawbacks. With
mounting calls to repeal the ACA, this issue is more critical than ever. However, evidence shows

Some people claim that mandates under nationalized health care requiring everyone to be insured
are unconstitutional and violate individual liberty, as the government has no right to determine
consumer consumption. However, everyone must pay into the system to offset costs of paying
for the neediest populations. The only way that disadvantaged people can gain insurance is if
everyone purchases insurance. As this affects interstate commerce, mandating participation
legally falls under the jurisdiction of the government by the Commerce Clause. Most of the
international community except for the United States has already decided that access to health
care is a fundamental human right. As a result, the government is able to do what it must to
protect and secure this right. Some people complain that they are being forced to pay for a
service they do not need in order to benefit other people. However, the mandate is good because
it increases effectiveness of national health care while allowing everyone to be prepared for a
worst case scenario. States still have freedom to set their own local policies under nationalized
health care, allaying any fears about unchecked federal power. For example, under the ACA states
can set up required exchanges however they feel would be most efficient

Analysis Of Sweetness By Toni Morrison
In an effort to explain the impact of colorism in black communities, Rita B. Dandridge once

privileges the near white or light complexioned person over the darker hued. These privileges
include more desirable jobs, houses in more prestigious neighborhoods, and better educational
opportunities based on one having a lighter skin complexion. Since whites have more privileges
in society simply based on the color of their skin, it is common for blacks to want to be white or

The Importance Of Science
Science is an aspect of life and something which is identifiable in every student s lives as it is
continuously extended, refined and revised. In the text, Taking Science to School, there are five
points identifying why science should be taught science. The five reasons include 1. Science is a
significant part of human culture and represents the human thinking capacity, 2. It provides
common experience for development of language, logic, and problem solving skills to be used in
the classroom, 3. A demand for students to make it personal and community decisions about issues
in which scientific information plays a key role, 4. It will become a lifelong vocation, 5. The
nation is reliant on the technical and scientific abilities for citizens due to economic
competitiveness and national needs (Duschl et al, 2007, Page 34). The sciencecurriculum should be
focused and designed for students to be able to understand and grasp the knowledgeof the basic
skills, which in turn will lead learning efforts. Three dimensional learning is not only highlighting
the facts of the content of science, but also the doing of science (Willson et al, 2015, pg. 28).

The Victorian era was a time of contradiction. While England lamented its traditional values, it
also saw the potential for a better quality of life through industrialization. Tennyson presents this
paradox, between traditional acceptance of life and a progressive need for enhancement, in his

while each protagonist has duties and societal expectations that are holding them back. Tennyson
uses experience, gender, and identity in Ulysses and The Lady of Shalott to explore the idea of

When forced into such oppressive and horrible conditions people benign to do whatever they
can in order to survive. Man got desperate enough to eat out other prisoners that broke rules. The
camps affected the prisoners attitudes about themselves, making them believe that there was no
hope for them, and some even believe that they were put in the camp because they are being
punished by God for something they did.(Aleksandr Soljenitsin, Online PDF, Page 40) The
camp makes the men look at themselves in a new light, with how they choose to survive and live
defining who they are. They have to decide themselves if discarding any dignity they have left
and lowering themselves will be worth it to survive. What they decide to do in order to survive
makes them think if this is who they really are or want to be. Most importantly, the camp attacks
their personal identity and individuality. Their names replaced with random letters and numbers, all
aspects of themselves stripped away. They are not aloud to remember themselves and eventually it

The Negatives Of Using Newspapers For Advertising
Newspapers:
The positives of using newspapers for advertising for Cherry Hill Animal Clinic are that you can
use a local newspaper for an affordable price and the clinic would benefit since they could target
their audience from their local area.
The negatives are that newspapers have a short shelf life and there could be many other ads that
distract the reader from your ad.
Magazines:
The positives for using magazine advertising are that you could focus on local magazines about
pets since that would likely be your reader. Also, magazines are commonly passed around among
pet owners and the clinic could get more visibility.
The negatives are that you would have to limit this to local magazines since you have a limited
area with which you customers would come from. Furthermore, you would need to pay more to get
a good spot in the magazine for your ad.
Directories:
The positives for using directories are that people will specifically go there to find a clinic, so a
well placed ad should stand out and increase your business. Also, these are available 24 hours and
won t become outdated like a newspaper or magazine would.
The negatives are that advertising is costly and you would need to have a good placement for your
ad because the directories are normally published once a year.
Radio:
The positives of using radio are that the cost is less than using other medium and you can use local
radio which will reach your target audience
The negatives of using radio are

Living In A Diverse Community Analysis
Auto rickshaws stuck in traffic, countless jaywalkers, and a vast array of colors mark the streets
of India in my childhood memories and are in sharp contrast to the quiet, blue and black hustle
and bustle in the streets of the US. Having lived in another country in my formative years has
given me a different perspective than that of the average person. Experiencing two very distinct
cultures whether deciding between dresses and sarees or burgers and biryanis has allowed me to
learn about the benefits of having diversity within an area.
Living in a diverse community shielded me from culture shock and grew an appreciation in me for
other cultures of the world. While the people in the US are considered the melting pot, there are
situations where

Determining The Molarity Of a Potato Cytoplasm
Determining the Molarity of a potato cytoplasm
An Experiment to find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm.
Aim: To find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm compared to sucrose and salt. I mainly
was looking to see how concentration of salt/sucrose affects the mass of the potato cores.
Prediction/Hypothesis:
My prediction is that as the concentration increases, the potato cell will lose more weight. This is
because of the osmosis of water particles from the potato cell cytoplasm to the solution, resulting
in a loss of weight. As the concentration decreases, the potato will lose less weight until a certain
point where the osmosis of particles in and out of the potato cells will be equal. I also predict that

I sprayed more water into my beaker to dissolve any remaining salt particles.
I then repeated this until all of the salt was in the volumetric flask.
Next, I poured distilled water just below the 250ml mark on the neck of the volumetric flask.
Thereafter I used a pipette to meticulously drop in water up to the 250ml mark.
Finally I put the bung in the volumetric flask, and I relentlessly inverted it to fully mix the solution.
Fair Test
I will make sure that my tests are fair because I will:
Use Equal widths of potato core each time by using the same corer. This is important because if I
used a different corer, the potato core might come out as a different width. This could be because of
rust, or maybe even the thickness of the metal.
Repeat each concentration of sodium chloride solution 5 times to achieve a more accurate average.
This is important because it can help me to detect any anomalies in my data caused by mistakes or
errors. Identifying these mistakes can help to strengthen my investigation and reduce the amount of
anomalous results.
Make sure the Classroom temperature is the same each time I do the investigation. This is because;
a higher classroom temperature can increase the rate of reaction resulting in results that do not form
a pattern.
Use Equal lengths of potato core each time (5cm). It is very important

How Does Disco Affect Society During The 1970s
This author intends to explore how disco impacts the society during the 1970s. On Saturday nights
it did not matter what race, skin color or sexual preference, disco music did what the late 1960
protests, rallies and rock music could not do, it brought all the different cultures on the dance floor
dancing the night away.
To understand disco music and why it was popular in the 1970s to 1980s, one must understand the
genre disco. Disco is defined as a style of popular music for dancing, usually recorded and with
complex electronic instrumentation, in which simple, repetitive lyrics are subordinated to a heavy,
pulsating, rhythmic beat. ( disco )
The musical styles of Disco originated in the East Coast parts of the United States. It began to hit
the American nightclubs in the late 1960s. It falls under the subgenres of Euro disco, space disco,

Analysis Of On The Subway

ENGL 101
17 September 2015
Textual Analysis Essay #1
Sharon Olds, poet of on the subway depicts a situation where a white female makes observations
and internal thoughts about a black male that she witnesses on a subway that Olds describes as
representing tension between the white and black races. The black teenage male possibly portrays
not just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. Olds uses
enjambments, powerful imagery, as well as figurative language, specifically metaphors, in order to
point out the stereotypical differences and tensions between races in today s community and the
bigger picture of the common stereotype of Caucasian people being above the African American
people on the socio economic ladder. Her forceful tone reflects the severity and prevalence of this
harsh commonly seen contrast between the two races.
Enjambments can be utilized for a variety of different reasons in order to change the way the
reader analyzes and thinks about the poem. A basic reason to use enjambments would be to
make the lines of the poem look more even, but in this poem they are used for a little more
reasoning. One example of a critical and essential enjambment in the poem that helps Olds prove
her purpose exists when she says I am / living off his life (18 19). This really

Power Of Story Analysis
Wk2 The Power of Story Response
Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from
generation to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history.
I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and
uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were
exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely
difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition.
Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a
comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive
and non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force
feeding information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify
with. I know I can because I have personally experienced being restless, reckless, wretched, and
wanting to leave home and live the worldly way. I had good role models at home, but could not

By listening and/ or seeing stories, people transition content from their short term memory to their
long term memory. On top of this benefit, telling a story is an effective way of bridging the
cognitive learning theory and the humanistic learning theory. Both of which must be applied in
order for truth to be successfully understood. Finally, this method of educating is something that
Jesus Christ, the master teacher, employed when teaching his followers and is a method that
Christian educators in the twenty first century must take a hold of and use as they try to teach truth
their generation (Storytelling in Christian Education, n.d., p.

Daphne, A Naiad-Nymph Of The River Peneus
Daphne was a Naiad Nymph of the river Peneus in Thessalia and the daughter of the river god
Peneus. Nymphs were female spirits of the natural world and crafters of nature s beauty, from the
growing of the trees and flowers to the formation of wetlands, brooks, grottos, and springs. (Atsma)
Her father, the river god Peneus, was tried several times because Daphne would not accept any of
the handsome, eligible young men who wanted her. Her father would scold her by saying, Am I
never going to have a grandson? which Daphne would answer with Father, dearest, let me be like
Diana. . (Hamilton 119) Her father would surrender from these conversations and let her off into
the woods, which she had the freedom to do what she desired. Daphne became like Diana, also
known as Artemis, by living as a perpetual virgin and a wild huntress. Daphne is said to have been
Apollos first love, but it turned out to be a one sided love.
One day, Eros, the god of love, was taunted by Apollo, the god of prophecy, when he told Eros to
leave bows and arrows to those who were more capable of using them after he defeated Python.
(L.Roman and M.Roman 130) Eros wanted revenge and decided to shoot Apollo and Daphne
with arrows that had opposite reactions. Apollo was struck with a gold tipped arrow that made
him fall in love with whoever he set his eyes on while Daphne was hit by a lead tipped arrow that
made her become even more uninterested in any man she had ever seen. (Cotterell 32) When

Lord capulet is to blame for Romeo and Juliet s death. Therefore be patient, take no note of him,
and put off these frowns, unfitting this occasion. Said Capulet (8).This is showing that Capulet

and Juliet can t love each other so it led to their deaths because they were in love and wanted to
be together so Juliet ran off to be with Romeo and faked her death. After seeing her dead Romeo
kill himself. Capulet has been talking with a young count named Paris, and agrees that he would

Essay on Marie-Antoinette
Maria Antonia Josepha Joanna, later known as Marie Antoinette, was born on 02 November
1755. At 13 years of age, Marie was sent to France to begin her relationship with the Dauphin of
France, Louis XVI. In 1770, at the age of 15, she and the Louis XVI were married in Vienna,
then taking the throne in 1774. Marie Antoinette was a young, beautiful, elegant, and graceful
queen whose fashion influenced the women of France. She was very proud of where she
originated, Hapsburg, and she was very proud of how she presented herself. Marie Antoinette was
a young woman who was never given an opportunity to be young. She married young, took over as
the queen of France at a young age, and therefore she still had much growing up to do. The queen...

Unfortunately, by that time, the damage had already been done; Marie was growing tired of her
queen duties, and wanted to be out of the public eye. Finally, Marie began using her power as
queen, stopped publicly displaying herself, and spent more time with her friends. At that time,
is when she began her shopping sprees of expensive gifts for her friends, and led to her spending
more time, and money, on herself. She began to spend more of her time with her friends going
to masked balls, theatres, gambling, and late night trips to the park. Marie s free spirited living
was not comforting to the people of France. However, she was still idolized by some for her
traits. Marie was often complimented on her beauty and style. Vigee Lebrun, Marie Antoinette s
painter, once commented on the translucent colour of her complexion, her long blonde hair, and
her well proportioned and full bosomed figure . To maintain her beautiful appearance, she would
spend a great amount of money on dresses and accessories, such as high headdresses and plumes,
to go along with the dresses, which were sometimes voluminous. She was constantly exceeding
her clothing allowance, and her husband was more than happy to cover the difference to keep his
wife happy. To keep Marie happy, Louis XVI gave her Petit Trianon, as a place for her to have to
herself. She built a theatre so she could have shows, and she

  • 2. Ww2 Environmental Effects World War II is one of the finest examples of a total war. Countries around the world mobilized vast empires to fight battles in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Resource production and weapon experimentation marred the environment, causing repercussions still visible today. However, some consequences of the war benefited the environment, complicating the Second World War s environmental history. Gerard Weinberg, in his text World War II: A Very Short Introduction, focuses on Hitler s War in Europe. He ignores the ways the war shaped the environment, and how the environment shaped the methods of warfare. Environmental destruction during WWII influences modern life in places around the world, but it was not warfare that destroyed most of the environment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... WWII s cataclysmic warfare had little, if any, permanent impact on the environment; however, weapons experimentation in numerous places have caused permanent destruction of natural habitats. Gruinard Island, known as the Isle of Death, is where British scientists experimented with anthrax spores as a potential biological weapon on the island in 1942 and 1943. Anthrax is highly contagious, and may enter the body through an open wound, by being ingested with undercooked meat, or by inhalation of the spores. Scientists tested the anthrax spores on Gruinard Island in a variety of ways that lead to the complete contamination of the island, including deep into the soil. The British never used anthrax as a biological weapon, but after the war, the island was too deadly to return to its owners. From 1948 to 1968, scientists tested the soil, and each time found it to have unsafe levels of anthrax. In 1979, because of mounting threats from the public, the government performed an in depth examination of the land and found the spores had lost little potency. The cool climate kept the spores dormant, but there were fears that a warm weather period could produce a second generation of anthrax. Gruinard s most contaminated areas underwent an extreme decontamination process, and after allowing sheep to graze on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As you plunge your quivering lips into mine, I gasp for my final breath in the softness of your mouth with teardrops in our kiss. Closing my eyes to this bittersweet suffocation, memories of our first emerge... Your lips break free from mine, our fingers untwined. I watch you drifting from my touch as you dance into the night. Your flowered summer dress barely touches you and I envy the glow of streetlights, kissing the silk of your skin. Midnight breezes rush toward my way as I savour your alluring perfume; my sweet intoxication. You re my ecstasy. Your whispers caress my addiction. The inviting air of your radiance evokes my desire to join your melodic waltz within the shadows surrounding us. There s only silence, yet music still resonates in the tranquillity of night. This essay aims to highlight how a group of people have a certain persona that can be so large that it will influence the way they dress and their beliefs and lifestyle. This analysed over decades. In each paragraph I am going to highlight how a specific group or event that occurred in the particular decade influenced the fashion in America. My conclusion will basically prove my thesis. Fashion in the 1970 s The 1970s was the decade of the mods and the hippies. Men and women were wearing tight pants and bell bottoms were also huge in the 70 s. At times it was difficult to make a clear distinction of what was seen appropriate for home and what was seen appropriate for a night out. Women were seen pairing low cut pants with high cut boots, ....this was probably also the first full decade in which women could be seen wearing pants in every walk of life. retro waste. (A discussion of how Socrates was influential and intriguing using Plato s Republic) To learn about the past, people in today s society often consult the internet or history books. To an extent, all we know about the past is from what we have read or heard, so what is actually truth, and what is just a captivating story. Scholars believe that some people from history are just made up to portray ideals or tell a story with an important message. Socrates was a real man, but some scholars believe that some of Socrates beliefs are truly just Plato, his student, writing things and saying that Socrates believed in them. The world today has virtually no idea whether Socrates believed everything that is recorded in Plato s Republic. Socrates, as portrayed in Plato s Republic, is extremely intriguing because of the way he communicates with people with his sarcasm and use of his Socratic method to teach. In Plato s Republic, Socrates is portrayed as a man who answers everything in a way that avoids actually answering any questions. Socrates wants the people he is talking with to think for themselves so he never gives a definitive answer when asked a question. Instead of talking clearly, Socrates talks with thick sarcasm. Holding a conversation with someone is a sort of game to Socrates, so almost everything he says is shrouded with sarcasm and double meanings. Why does Socrates play with people s minds with sarcasm and intrigue? Socrates was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Student Self-Assessment Reflection Chelsie Vogel Student Self Assessment Reflection When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading , discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down (not yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a failure. After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down with them, take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses. For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading. Student N also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student if they read a lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video games and watching TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a good reader and I don t have a problem finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading. Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This is where the idea of personal and shared knowledge shaping each other comes into perspective, as Galileo was continuously faced with the knowledge of the Church. Continuously his personal knowledge was rejected, because shared knowledge had such an influence among the people. His hypothesis frightened both the Protestant leaders and Catholic Church because it went against their teachings and authority. If people believed that the church could be wrong about this, they would question the church teachings as well. The Church warned Galileo of his theories, however silently he continued to research. The Church s greatest fear was that Galileo s personal knowledge would ultimately change the shared knowledge of the Church. In 1632, he published a book which presented both of the ideas of Copernicus and Ptolemy, and it was clear that Galileo supported the Copernican theory which stated that the Earth moved around the Sun. With jails and prisons facing an increasing overpopulation problem, with less staff, and budget cuts more and more probation, parole, and community corrections are becoming a solution (manhattan institute.org, 2000). Parole and probation function through their operation programs such as their case classification system (Burrell, 2003). This system allows the parole board to classify which cases should be considered for early release and which ones should not. Once a case is determined to be eligible for parole, then probation uses the case classification system to decide if the case is high risk or low risk (manhattan institute.org, 2000). Community corrections becomes a part of the parole and probation services once the inmate is released into the community by operating residential and secure custodial facilities and provide free labor to local organizations through community service programs, probation and parole are best known for their role in the supervision of offenders in the community (Burrell, 2003, p. 1). All over the world, animals are being used for the purpose of human entertainment. When going to the circus, most people never stop and think about what really is happening to the animalsfeatured in this form of entertainment. Some people may even think that these animals are living a great life, they are always being taken care of by humans, they have a place to live, and they never have to worry about predators or finding their own prey. The truth is, the animals that are being utilized for the purpose of human entertainment are living horrible lives and are not suited to live in the environments that they are being placed in. Humans who are surrounding themselves with these animals also are putting themselves in severe danger. The animals that are part of the circus are not supposed to be in captivity, they are supposed to be living in the wild where they are able to fight and fend for themselves, not depend on others to survive. Eventually, an animal s natural instincts will come out, forcing the animal to want to attack and harm someone. What is worst about taking animals into captivity, is ... Dr. Julianne Greenberg an author for the Washington Radiology estimates that 3D mammography will replace conventional mammography screening within ten years. Like conventional mammograms, 3D mammograms do not prevent breast cancer, but help a doctor find cancer much earlier. 3D mammography can identify a lump up to two years before it will become large enough for you to feel it. The 3D mammography technology finds significantly more invasive cancers than a traditional mammogram. • 19. Mining and The Environment Essay examples Introduction In our days, mining for resources is inevitable. The resources we need are valuable in everyday life. Such resources mined up are coal, copper, gold, silver, and sand. However, mining poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up effecting us humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have occurred. History and Case Studies of Mining and the Effects on the Environment Mines pose a threat to the environment. They can degrade soil and water quality if left untreated. These left over tailings create human and ecological health problems that can be caused from exposure to the dust that are blown from these mine sites since metal toxicants can persist in tailing particles (arizona.edu, 2008). Another threat to the environment is acid mine drainage (also known as acid rock drainage). Acid mine drainage is the outflow of acidic water from a mining site. This acid is formed by the oxidation of iron sulfide. The oxidation occurs when iron sulfide is exposed to the air or to dissolved oxygen in the water, which causes the iron to rust and the sulfur reacts with the water to forum sulfuric acid (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). Figure 2 illustrates the sulfuric acid that is formed. Acid mine drainage is most common with hardrock mines where metal ore is bound together with sulfur. The increased acidity created from acid mine drainage has a series of negative effects, depending on the severity of change in the pH level. The acid mine drainage creates inhospitable environments to aquatic life in river systems and former mine sites, with the exception of extremophile bacteria (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). Acid mine drainage can severely degrade the quality of the water, especially if it s a essential water supply. Solutions There are two primary methods of preventing acid mine drainage fall. One is preventing sulfuric acid from forming, and the other is neutralizing the acid after it forms. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Halfway there, I thought, happy to be done with another stressful day of classes. After most of the other passengers disembark to board the train, those of us which stay on the bus each have our own seats. The bus driver steps off the bus, as he does each day, to smoke a cigarette. Each day I contemplate how the complex interplay of individuals can become simple routine, reduced to the same exhausted ride to school every morning, matched to the seemingly endless ride home every afternoon. I wouldn t be able to cope with the chaos that some people enjoy, I prefer my simple, reliable routines. Nevertheless, every day I contemplate the paths each of the passengers had to follow for this scene to play out as it does each day. The path that inevitably leads to me sitting on the bus and watching the driver smoke his cigarette at the same time, in the same place, five out of seven days a week. I look up to another familiar scene playing out beyond the Plexiglas windows of the bus: a group of homeless men passing their days exposed to the elements. Some are splayed out across the lawns of an adjacent office building, others are digging in the cracks of the pavement for cigarette butts. Things started to change in China, for example, the government started to aid the poor a lot more than what they have in the past. They were getting this money from the newly introduced income tax. This made a lot of people happy and everyone started to have more patriotism and pride. This pride gave the government a feel of legitimacy. Some of the major things the government is paying for is the roads, food, and education. As this affects interstate commerce, mandating participation legally falls under the jurisdiction of the government by the Commerce Clause. Aim: To find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm compared to sucrose and salt. I mainly was looking to see how concentration of salt/sucrose affects the mass of the potato cores. Prediction/Hypothesis: My prediction is that as the concentration increases, the potato cell will lose more weight. This is because of the osmosis of water particles from the potato cell cytoplasm to the solution, resulting in a loss of weight. As the concentration decreases, the potato will lose less weight until a certain point where the osmosis of particles in and out of the potato cells will be equal. I also predict that as the salt ... Fair Test I will make sure that my tests are fair because I will: Use Equal widths of potato core each time by using the same corer. This is important because if I used a different corer, the potato core might come out as a different width. This could be because of rust, or maybe even the thickness of the metal. The black teenage male possibly portrays not just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. • 45. Power Of Story Analysis Wk2 The Power of Story Response Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from generation to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history. I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition. Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically. Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify with.
