Oral Health Among Korean Older Adults
Title: Using CBPR Methods to Address Oral Health among Korean Older Adults
1.Significance:
The proposed research, which uses Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) methods,
builds on Dr. Ahluwalia s existing work with homebound older adults, which seeks to inform oral
health policy for New York City home delivered meal recipients in New York City (NYC). The
proposed research will focus on working with the Korean community in NYC to understand oral
health needs among Korean older adults, and to use the data collected to inform the development of
oral health related interventions for this population.
A recent review of the oral health literature indicates that there are few studies that document oral
health needs among Koreans in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the goal of this project is to use CBPR methods to collaborate with partners in the
Korean community to address oral health among a particularly vulnerable subset of the Korean
community older adults who may have significant medical, cognitive and functional co morbidities,
and who may find it difficult to navigate the oral and health care systems due to challenges
associated with language, transportation and culture. By working with KCS, we hope to improve
the visibility of oral health in the Korean community, and to leverage the potential of the
collaboration to address oral health in other Korean groups e.g. children and family. CBPR methods
are an effective way to achieve this goal because they require working closely with KCS, the
community partner, and seek to enhance the capacity of the community, thus enhancing the
potential sustainability of future intervention programs. The proposed research can potentially
impact approximately 5000 Korean seniors through KCS.
The proposed research builds on Dr. Kavita Ahluwalia s continuing CBPR project titled Oral
health and nutrition in NYC HDM recipients . I have been working with Dr.Ahluwalia on this
project for the past year. I want to extend and apply what I have

Michael Jordan s Accomplishments And Career
Why are we so fascinated with Michael Jordan and his accomplishments and career? What is it
that Michael Jordan is trying to tell us in his short, but amazing, commercial? Most of America
idolize this individual, Michael Jordan. We ask ourselves, how has one individual accomplished so
much and come so far from pretty much nothing. In this short Maybe video we find a lot of our
questions have been answered.
While watching this video, for the first time, I was blown away with all that he states. His main
message to me was we must work hard every single day of our lives, if we want to have great and
extraordinary success. Don t make up excuses, just have the strength to become what you want to
be. Succeed in life because you want to succeed, not because others want or expect you to. We
need to know that with hard work and dedication comes great success. We live in a world that we
blame others for our failures and short comings. We are each in control of our own destiny, no one
can change that. Michael Jordan worked hard daily, not once a week or once a month, daily. He
was determined to accomplish what he felt was his destiny.
There was so many supporting images in his short video to support who and where he came from.

I would have to list commitment as the first. Without the commitment, this individual has, his
career would not have been as accomplished. He was dedicated, at a very young age, to succeed
and not give up. It s hard to be best at something, because giving up is so much easier. Michael
Jordan is a very confident individual also, a very good trait to have. He is very inspiring to people,
especially to younger children. Many young boys I have spoken with aspire to be just like
Michael Jordan. He has the ability to motivate people to aspire to be the best that you can

Discrimination Of Genes In The Film Gattaca
Both in the movie Gattaca and in the early 20th century, children were genetically engineered to be
the optimal recombination of parent s genes. In the movie, Vincent was given 99% probability of
developing congenital heart defect and life expectancy of 30.2. In the eugenic movement in the
early 20th century, congenital defect was classified as unfit. Although he was not executed, he
faced lots of discrimination from the perfect society. In 1911, prisoners and children residing in
poor houses were sterilized involuntarily. Moreover, Preliminary Report by the Committee of the
Eugenic Section of the American Breeder s Association recommended Euthanasia to keep up the
standard of the race. In contrast, in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was not discriminated because of his
social status, color, or race. However, in the eugenicsmovement in the US in the early 20th century
there was discrimination because of social status, color, and race. For example, The Racial
Integrity Act of Virginia, made a marriage between a white and non white a felony and then 1927,
Virginia state was allowed sterilization of people considered genetically unfit.
Well, the genetic engineeringhas been legislated to a certain extent. At the age when ultrasound
was used to detect health of a fetus, India legislated that doctors cannot reveal gender of the baby
to the parent due to a highly patriarchal society where a male child is highly revered and a female
is shame of the family. In the United

Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton
In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical
youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are
rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around
youth conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much
to both. This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy
throughout The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows
this in the novel as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues

Reform Judaism As Liberal And Progressive Judaism
Reform Judaism also known as Liberal and Progressive Judaism is the large institutionalized
religion that I chose. The locations that Reform Judaism is practiced in are 43 countries around the
world and started in the Levant. They also have a headquarters in New York City, New York the
Union for Reform Judaism, Central Conference of American Rabbis. Reform Judaism emerged
following the emancipation from ghetto life in the late 18 th century. It sought to modernize
Judaism and thus stem the tide of assimilation threatening German Jewry (Jews for Jesus).
Abraham Geiger is considered to be the founder of the Reform movement. While he was
investigating Jewish history he discovered that many of the old practices were changed in favor of
new ones. Geiger also felt that the more changes that are made to keep up with the times will make
Judaism attractive to all Jews. OlmecReligionwas the small traditional religion that I chose. The
location that the Olmec Religion was practiced in the Gulf of Mexico which is now the states of

Key Areas Of Responsibility For A Dual Role
Key areas of responsibility for this dual role were to manage the operation of the IT infrastructure
whilst overseeing the allocation of workloads and scheduling for all forty drivers. The area of focus
was to co ordinate the fleet contractors in the morning while in the afternoons; I concentrated on the
IT related aspects of the role. After discovering that this organisation had limited infrastructure (10+
years old) which had restricted company growth, my recommendations to senior managementto
implement a more efficient IT infrastructure. This improved network speed, reliability and data
management.

Essay on Zombies in Popular culture
I was a late bloomer when it came to knowledge of zombies. Well, late in the sense that I hadn t
noticed zombies in pop culture, not late in the sense that zombies had taken over. At least I hope
the movies didn t have real zombies acting like zombies, or else the world as we know it would be
in a whole lot of trouble. The undead are everywhere in popular culture. Zombies appear in video
games such as Doom, Zelda and Left 4 Dead. They are in movies like 28 Days Later, Dawn of
the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, and Zombieland. They are in books like those of Max Brooks.
However, I am no expert when it comes to everything that zombies are in, just what has caught my

Rules like cardio, double tap, seatbelts, limber up, and check the back seat. These rules have
become popular culture in themselves. I have a friend who will say Rule #4, wear your seatbelts,
when getting into her car. If a friend is out of breath from playing football, I ll say Cardio, I don t
want to have to kill you when you become a zombie. But Zombieland isn t the only piece of
zombie popular culture that has rules; there are many books and other movies that have important
rules to follow in a land swarmed by zombies.
There is the Zombie Survival Guide written by Max Brooks, which covers a variety of knowledge
on the topics of zombie survival. The book talks about warning signs, weapons, shelters, food,
and other supplies needed. This also has a set of rules that one should follow, but not necessarily
in a list format. Some important rules from the Zombie Survival Guide would be Use your head;

Job Description

shows. Producers hire directors, principal members of the cast, and negotiate contracts with artistic
personnel, often in accordance with collective bargaining agreement ( Actors, Directors, and

Producers who work for large film companies usually have experience both in films and
business. The job of producer can be approached from either field. A lot of money goes into
these productions, and the producer s job is to raise the money needed and see that it s spent
wisely. It s the producer s responsibility for ultimately turning a profit for the investors. A good
producer would recognize a successful show or movie while it s still in planning stages. A smart
producer spots a bad idea, more often than not, before too much money is wasted on it (CIC 154).

Education Required
There are no standard educational or training requirements for the position of producer (CIC

have also trained as actors in dramatic arts schools. People who may be accepted need at least a
bachelor s degree or two years of on set experience and also must pass written tests. Courses in
acting and communications can be helpful. College drama courses in liberal arts, stage speech and
movement, directing, playwriting, history of drama, and design and play production can be helpful
also. (GIS 1).

Mobile Computing Technology
Monitoring Patient Vital Signs Monitoring patients with vital signs using mobile computing
technology had substantial growth for physicians. They are able to access information, resources
and people at the right time and place. What is so essential about mobile computing is the feature of
the healthcare delivery. Faster communication between the patients, wards, clinics, laboratories,
operating theaters and offices are very important. Physicians are able to complete these tasks with
their patients at a faster rate. This means the patient(s) are able to get the treatment they need faster
and the physicians are to take care more individuals than before. The mobile computing technology
is an emerging technology, which consist of wireless sensornetworks. The wireless sensor is the
smallest unit of a network and some of the features supports large scale deployment, mobility,
reliability and other applications. According to (Hoon Jae, 2011), the main goals of WSNs are to
deploy a number sensor devices over an unattended area and transmit to certain locations.
Compare and Contrast Monitoring According to (VANCOUVER, 2012), Pairing medical
diagnostics with mobile phones will greatly advance the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of
critical diseases in developing countries, Ansermino said (para.4). The main focus on comparing
and contrasting monitoring mobile phones for vital signs is the quickness in the whole operation.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is something that has plagued the military for years. Coined as
Shell Shock during World War I, symptoms included fatigue, tremor, confusion, nightmares and
impaired sight and hearing (Dr. Edward Jones 2012, 2). Very similar to the modern PTSD victim,
these symptoms can quickly turn life altering. Many things can strike a PTSD flashback, an
unexpected loud noise, and a familiar smell, pent up stress, even something such as driving down
the road. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, over 1.8 million men and women have
deployed in support of the War on Terror, and since it s begging, over 300,000 service members
have been treated for Post Traumatic Stress. This totals approximately 18% of all returning
veterans. As shocking as this number is, this only reflects the amount of veterans that have sought
treatment. Many more turn to other sources to deal with their problems. Substance Abuse is a very
real problem within the Armed Forces. Whether it be alcohol, prescription pills (legally obtained or
illegally), or tobacco, they have made their way inside the ranks. Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration records show that more than 11% of all Operation Iraqi Freedom
and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans suffer from a Substance Use Disorder (4). Once again,
these records only reflect how many service members have admitted they have a substance abuse
problem. Many service members

Jesus Change
During class time, we learned about Jesus s impact on people. Many people were changed a lot.
They became kinder and more friendly. We could see this through people s reactions to God and
the good things they did. Through Jesus s teaching, not only Paul and people in the Bible, but every
Christian is becoming better people.
Among all the apostles, the change from Saul to Paul is the most amazing one for me. The
name Saul was once a deadly word for the citizens under Saul s control. He hated Christians at first.
He arrested and even killed a lot of apostles. Evil and cruel are the two words that best described
him. He was a demon before he was changed by Jesus.
In Acts 9, Saul was completely changed. When he went into the city of Damascus, ... Show more

When Jesus appeared in front of him and told him that he needed to save Saul, he hesitated. His
hesitation reflected the evilness of Saul. God chose Ananias because of his pure faith. The
evilness that stopped a faithful apostle from obeying God s order must be huge. It indirectly
showed how bad Saul was and how huge the change was as well. The reaction of Ananias is an
important element in here. Saul s changes were unbelievable. He was such an evil killer three
days ago. No one could imagine that three days later, he became a true believer of Jesus. Jesus
purified his soul. This made him act like a savior. All the sins were washed away. He became a
faithful follower in Jesus and God. The bible talked a lot about his faith after being healed. In
Acts 21, Paul was arrested by the Jews. He was with the people that grabbed him. After he turned
to Jesus, he showed his faith towards God. He could have been with the persecutors and keep
looking for Christians. However, he gave up the life he was used to and changed all his
characteristics. Acts 22 described the things he did after he was released. He said, I was very
serious about serving God, the same as all of you here today. (Acts 22:3) He stood in front of the
people that wanted to kill him several minutes

War With Mexico Justified

United States. Mexico had claimed Texas, Nevada, and California. The Oregon Territory wasn t

Texas was independent. In 1836 the battle at the Alamo was won by Mexico, who became free

Easter Island Collapse Essay
ABSTRACT Easter Island, also known by the indigenous name Rapa Nui, is a remote island in
the south Pacific Ocean located over 2000 miles off the coast of Chile and over 1250 miles from
the nearest Polynesian island. Easter Island is best known for the hundreds of statues scattered
across the island, largely because the question of how exactly these statues got to where they
rest has stirred the minds of many theorists since the island s discovery by the Dutch Admiral
Roggeveen on Easter Sunday of 1722. This very mystery is considered a pillar in Jared Diamond s

He believes that the islanders cut each tree down one by one for materialistic and impractical
purposes with no consideration to consequences of their actions, and claims that we are currently

truly be considered a parable in respect to our need for oil and other natural resources? The
purpose of this research paper is to take a consequentialist approach to explore the ethical claims
Diamond makes of environmental irresponsibility on Easter Island and its unique case of
deforestation. I hold that Diamond s claim of Easter Island s self induced environmental
degradation is wholly misleading as a parable for our planet s current path toward environmental
sustainability. Rather, I will show that the past inhabitants of this small island were, in fact,
environmental stewards, and that they overcame challenges that were brought on by causes that
were completely out of their control. Furthermore, I will explain how Diamond s claim that Easter
Island being a fair comparison is very misleading in regards to our current environmental situation,
as the occurrences on Easter Island are far different than what put our planet in the environmental
challenges we are currently

Juicing College Essay
There seems to be a war of sorts going on about what kind of juicer is the best. It s
understandable when you are considering doing something that so radically changes your method
of nutritional intake. To go from cooked foods from every food category and source to
consuming raw juice either as some of your intake to all of your intake it is best to know why you
want to juice and what your goals are.
One of the best uses of juicing is to detoxify your system. Fast and then consume large amounts of
purely nutritious, unprocessed and usually organic fruits and vegetables. This could be done by
eating a TON of fresh fruits and vegetables but for some that doesn t sound appetizing so juicing is
a great solution.
The Mayo Clinic s Jennifer Nelson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is helpful to have variable speed for different consistency foods. It must do this without any
heat, a big issue for some juicers but since no juicer on the market heats the juice while
producing it to the point of more than like 3% loss of nutritional value, which is one more
swallow, I am unsure of the controversy. Just choose an auger type juicer (most) instead of the
centrifugal juicer. Variable speed is important when wanting one juicer for both hard and soft
foods. Leafy vegetables and wheat grass need slower speeds than harder vegetables or fruits. You
need a good warranty and a juicer that you can easily order parts for.
Start out with variable speed, over 500watts, auger type with simple parts and clean up and you
are good to go. I will note here however that most serious juicers have more than one machine.
They have collected over the years one for hard stuff, one for soft stuff and one for leafy. I am just
saying...
In conclusion seriously, if you are considering juicing for the first time, find a used juicer at a
thrift store or garage sale or borrow one for awhile and see if juicing is really right for you before
spending hundreds of dollars on something that could end up in the garage. Hope this

Queen Elizabeth 1588 Essay
ELIZABETH I. AGAINST THE SPANISH ARMADA. 1588
This oration is both a political speech and a narrative text. It was given by Queen Elizabeth the 1st
of England on august the 9th of 1588 to her troops at Tilbury, Essex.
The purpose and intention of this speech was to support and motivate her soldiers just before they
go off to battle to face in those days what was known as to be one of the greatest powers in all of
Europe the Spanish Armada. Led by Phillip II of Spain and the Duke of Parma (his nephew).
This particular version of the speech that I will be commenting on is accepted as being authentic
and it has become the most famous one. It was recorded by Dr. Leonel Sharp (1559 1631) an
English churchman and archdeacon of Berkshire in a letter to the Duke of Buckingham a bit after

AskeВґs version published in 1558 in Elizabetha Triumphans apparently he was a soldier and also

There is substantial evidence proofing that ElizabethВґs speech is genuine and that she really did

William Blake s The Tyger
William Blake s The Tyger and Tragedies William Blake wrote a set of poems in his collection
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Some of the poems in each collection were meant
to be read together to show the difference between innocence and experience. Many people
question why Blake wrote a two part series to his poems and what they could actually mean. Two
specific poems, The Lamband The Tyger, were meant to be read together. The Lamb is a part of
Blake s Songs of Innocence and The Tyger is a part of the Songs of Experience collection. Blake
went through a great deal of tragic events in his life between the writing and publishing of Songs
of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Dreadful occasions in William Blakes life may have
influenced his poem The Tyger in the Songs of Experience collection. William Blake had some
tragedies during the time period between Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience
(1794). Grevel Lindop stated, After 1789 Blake s work became more openly revolutionary, but
also grimmer, the radiant vision of Innocence challenged by the fire and darkness of Experience
(Lindop). Lindop explains that on July 14, 1789 the French Revolution broke out, and during the
war William Blake seemed to take a more gruesome approach to his writings. Blake published his
Songs of Innocence poems in 1789 and then after those poems, he wrote ghastly poems such as the
poems in the Songs of Experience collection, The Revolutionary War, and

Personaltive Of Personal Narrative
Personal Narrative I heard them fighting every night, endless and endless rage at each other. I
just hid in my room and pretended it wasn t happening in my world. Hiding was the only way to
escape the fear I felt every night. Once I said Dad, why do you and Mom yell at each other? He
replied with go to your room and don t ask that again. A seven year old couldn t understand this
and needed help but with no way to learn all I could do was watch as their marriage fell crumbling
to the ground.
After that is when the beating started, slowly at first, but progressively it got worse and worse.
He would come in after a fight and hit me out of frustration. I always tried to hide but he always
knew where to look. He said If you tell anyone, I ll kill you. I never once doubted it, so I never told
anyone. For the next six months I was under his rule, I had no control over how hard or how
long he beat me for. I prayed to god so many times, but he never answered. An idol is only as
good as you see it as. My father used to be my idol but after that started I was afraid being near
him. I could not tell anyone, I had no one to help me. I was trapped against a monster that I could
not fight.
On my eighth birthday my dad came up to me and stated plainly We re leaving, pack up your stuff
and don t tell your mother. So I went upstairs and started to pack, but I couldn t fit all of my toys
in the bag so I shouted Mom, would you help me pack? My father thundered upstairs looking

Definition Of A Concerto
In this essay I will explain the definition of a concerto, what it is, where it was developed and
who made it popular. I will also discuss the most creative composer of the solo concerto who was
Antonio Vivaldi. Thirdly I will focus on the main traits Vivaldi developed in a concerto with
reference to one of his most enchanting works The Four Seasons.
Concerto
A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an
orchestra .The soloist will have the opportunity to show their potential during the cadenza part in a
concerto. A cadenza is an embellished solo section, usually placed at the end of the first movement
of a concerto. Concerto defines as a word both meaning competing and accommodating . Contrast,

The structural thinking behind the Four Seasons was that each movement twelve in all (three
per season) would evoke a certain mood. Vivaldi delivered elegance and originality in his work.
His music mirrors graphically the action described; this literary link is called program
music.Vilvaldis four season concertos were based on an Italian sonnet, likely written by Vivaldi
where he depicts and illustrates the narratives through his compositions. For example, in Vivaldi s
second concerto summer he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement.
The atmosphere is extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun.
The plaintive signs of the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a
tiring exertion, it gives no hint to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two). In the
concerto Winter he evokes a thunder storm, with the use of piercing high notes in the violin at a
rapid speed. For

How Does Beer Affect Society
Beer
a.Despite the negative connotations that come with the drink today, beer has actually played a
huge role in shaping societies. One example of this takes place with the Sumerian people of
Mesopotamia. Beer drinkers were widely depicted as drinking with a straw, this became a symbol
of hospitality and friendship, the tradition of clinking glasses when sharing alcohol also can be
traced to beer. Another subtle, yet important way that beer contributed to society is that it helped
eliminate the nomadic hunter gathering lifestyle from before.
b.Beer also helped influence the history of some societies. The constant thirst for beer led to the
creation of mash tubs made specifically for creating beer; this in turn allowed people to become
more creative. By adding things such as berries, honey, spices and herbs to the tubs, the beer
altered in taste and thus, became a drink used for different occasions. Egyptian records also refer to
beer as the beautiful and good and the heavenly . Beer was also used in religious ceremonies and
bappir or beer bread, was created and used for food shortages. ... Show more content on

Reflection Class Reflection
This second reflection period has been different from the first in that the defacto divides among
those in the class have been realigned. Furthermore, this reflection period has enabled many
factors of my classmate s identities to become apparent. While I believe the topics were less
controversial during this period, I believe that the selected readings and a greater degree of
variation in my classmate s opinions made this period much more disputed. Additionally, the topics
reviewed have ushered to the forefront several students who until now had remained in the
background. I count myself among the students who became more comfortable and assured during
this reflection period. By now, I am pretty confident that I have gotten to know my classmateswell
enough to relatively understand the components of their identities that impact their perspectives. In
the same manner, I believe that I have been able to participate in these topics more frequently and
have thus presented more of my own identityto my classmates. This change in classroom dynamics

substantive a key goal I had for this second reflection period. While my classmates have still
occasionally questioned the relevance of my responses to the readings, I am confident that my

First Opium War Research Paper
Good morning class and Mrs Bennett. The Hypothesis for this topic is that the First Opium War
caused problems in society because the criminal rate increased, as well as the local consumption of
the drug. This presentation will be discussing mainly what opium is, what the first opium war was,
and why it started. The Opium War was a battle in Chinathat occurred during the mid 19th century.
This war was between western countries, such as Britain, and the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China
between 1644 and 1911.
The First Opium War was conducted from 1839 to 1842, and was between China and Britain. The
reasoning for the war occurring was caused by China s attempts to withhold the Opium trade. It was
over diplomatic relations, trade, and the administration of foreign nationals in China. Opium was
illegally being imported into China, through India, by the British. They grew the opium on their
plantations in India. At first, the British were addicted to stimulating Chinese tea. Trade imbalance
occurred due to the Chinese buying few European products and demanding Gold or Silver in return.
The reverse flow of Silver and the increasing number of opium addicts alarmed Chinese officials,
and resulted in over 20,000 chests of opium to be confiscated. As opium was being imported into
china, it caused unrest in society, the local consumption to increase, and the decrease in the price of
the drug. Being a stimulant drug, Opium spread throughout the country, badly affecting its nation....

Bach Religious Life
When examining the theme of Music and Religious Life, the question that often comes up is,
what makes this music religious? Is it the choice of the musician or is it out of the artist s
control all together? It s hard to say with confidence that the answer is just one or the other
because it s easy to find exceptions for each. When looking at artists that have been able to have a
career as a musician and as a religious musician like Johann Sebastian Bach and Isaac Slade from
The Fray, it appears it s not about what the artist s preference is, but the preference of the people
and environment around them.
Johann Sebastian Bach found himself in a variety of environments. Living in an era when the
patronage system was present, his compositions were written with the intent of appeasing the
patrons. Bach s early career as a church organist, not surprisingly, was a time when he was heavily
regarded as a Christian musician. The setting of the church and the ... Show more content on

church and much like the old patronage style system of Bach s time, he changed his music to
accommodate the preference of the listeners. He formed the band, The Fray, in 2003 with some
old classmates of his and started recording secular songs which have been widely successful
(Friedman). The path Isaac Slade has taken in his career as a musician has been heavily dependent

Deviance is Relative is a controversial topic that has caused intrigued sociologists to have
debates in order to come to a conclusion. Because there is no absolute standard application
towards deviating behavior, we can only gain knowledge through practical implications, main
ideas, and concepts processes. Practical Implications of Deviance is Relative There is no absolute
way of defining deviating acts. Deviance can only be defined in a relation to certain norms, but no
standards are permanent. Norms can involve being within stereotypical viewpoints. Counter

If society does not have any means of enforcing its norms, then that means anyone can do anything
he/she wants. Without laws, society will become anarchy. An example is a murderer breaking the
law and killing another human being for religious purposes. He will experience negative sanctions.
He will either be on the run, in detention, or facing capital punishment. Because of possible
circumstances, sanctions are necessary. Medicalization of deviance means to make deviance a
medical matter; a symptom of some underlying illness that needs to be treated by physicians.
Certain acts of deviance can be a sign of mental illness: Rape, murder, stealing, cheating and so on.
Mental illness can stand for illogical thinking process. Thomas Szasz argues that mental illnesses
are neither mental nor illnesses. They are simply problem behaviors. The problem with his theory is
behavior results from thinking. Before a person is raped, the rapist contemplates about the most
efficient way to rape someone. His contemplation or thinking process happened before his behavior.
Another example is adultery. Whenever someone commits adultery, the person is aroused by sexual
thoughts first. Subsequently, the act or behavior of adultery proceeds after the thoughts. My own
analyses of stories that had been told to me helped lead me to this conclusion. The thoughts are the
causes which lead to the effects: the behavior. White collar crime is crime committed by

All Quiet On The Western Front Human Nature Essay
In Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, human nature is the only abstract
periphery between belligerent barbarism and justifiable violence. Through the insipid
bombardments that rained shells over the Germans heads and noxious implementation of mustard
gas, Remarque dexterously misleads the reader into believing that he fights in an apathetic war
where all remnants of human natureand identity have been destroyed with the introduction of trench
warfare. Through Paul Baumer s eyes, Remarque identifies war as an artificial construct devoid of
human identity and any subsequent emotions until the first bombardment, the first glimpse Baumer
has of the unfettered abominations of war. After the shrieking of artillery shells ceased, it was
replaced by the numbing scream of injured horses. Paul described this abhorrent noise as the
moaning of the world..., wild with anguish, filled with terror, and groaning (Remarque 62), the first
emotionally provocative scene in the novel. As if the description of the noise did not suffice to
pique the reader, Remarque continues, The belly of one is ripped open, the guts trail out. He
becomes tangled in them and falls... (Remarque 63). At this instant, Remarque sheds the obscure
layer of superficiality and reveals the tatters of human nature and identity still exist even in most
anguish conditions of comeradeship, sympathy, contrition, and selflessness. As the war worsens,
Baumer and his colleagues gradually

Surgical Technician Research Paper
Surgical Technologist
What is life like for a surgical technician? This is a common question asked for many students
wanting to pursue a career in surgical technology. I have always liked to learn about how our body
functions. Being able to see what our bodies are capable of excites me. I chose this topic because I
want to know more about this career before I decide what major I want to do for college.
I don t know much about surgical technology but, I do know that I could complete some of the
schooling here in Austin ,Minnesota at the local college. Surgical techs assist the doctors during
surgery. It takes a minimum of two years to become a surgical technologist. They stand in one
area for hours. I don t know anyone who is a surgical tech so I don t have any background or
experience in this field.
With wanting to pursue a career in surgical technology I have many questions. First, What is
there hourly pay? Second, How many years of college does it take to become a surgical tech?
Third, What are there daily job duties? Fourth, What is the average amount of hours per week?
Finally, Do they ever get put on call? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Marilyn Monroe s The Black Evening Gown
Since women started to become more valued in the workforce, they also wanted to reward
themselves by expressing how they felt through style. The booming designer of the time,
Christian Dior, really helped women find their identify through simple fabrics along with tasteful
and simple designs. Dior took over the closets of all women from the 1940 s all the way through
the mid 1950 s. The waist became the focal point of the human figure and the bustlines started to
raise and take shape. The shoulders stayed soft with rich fabrics and colors and the length of the
dressesand skirts became effortlessly long and full of life. The most iconic women of this time
that really took a grasp of this era was Marilyn Monroe. In the late 1940 s in... Show more content

Mainly worn by the elite society, they displayed not only your class structure but how much the
person stayed up with current events. Major designers of this time included but are not limited to,
Cristobal Balenciaga, Pierre Balmain, Hubert de Givenchy, and Charles James.
Charles James became a highly renowned dress designer of the early to mid 1950 s. He
constructed dresses that resembled architect renderings. He considered himself as an artist and a
sculptor of dress rather than a dressmaker. His most well known gown was the Clover Leaf gown
(figure 10) that was commissioned for Austine Hearst in 1953. Hearst wanted to wear this gown
for the Eisenhower Inaugural Ball of 1953. But like most works of art, they take time and
sometimes are not finished by the deadline. Hearst was unable to unveil the gown at the Ball, but
instead received it shortly after.
According to the Met, Punk attracted 442,350 visitors over the course of its three month run.
That makes it one of the five best attended shows the Met s Costume Institute has mounted in the
last quarter century and puts it well ahead of last year s intelligent and perplexing Elsa
Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada two hander (339,838 viewers). Nearly 5,000 visitors traipsed
through the Punk exhibition, with its ersatz CBGB toilet, every day. By way of comparison, the
Met s newly renovated American wing, featuring such crowd pleasers as Washington Crossing the
Delaware, pulls in 2,000 visitors a day;

Stravinsky Opera And Oedipus Comparison
The Stravinsky Opera directed by Julie Taymor, is a loose adaptation from the play Oedipus Rex
written by Sophocles. This film narrates Oedipus life and how the oracle affects his life. The fact
that Stravinsky Opera is a loose adaptation makes the film different than what we could imagine
while reading the original play, besides the film shows us that the director is able to see through
situation, interpret them and demonstrate how everything happened instead of making a summary
of certain moments like how Sophocles did in Oedipus Rex s play. On the other hand, the structure
used by Taymor in the film which implements costumes, actions and animals, helps the spectator to
see through situations in the film letting us know how the film will... Show more content on

The Oedipus Rex tells us a summary of some moments in the play, skipping actions made by
some characters in the play and avoiding explanations of how certain situations happened. The
Oedipus Rex s play clearly explains that Iocaste (Oedipus mother) was found death in her room
by one of the messengers because she could not face the reality of being married with her own
son who killed her husband and took his place in tebas. On the other hand, the Stravinsky Opera
clearly shows us how Iocaste hang herself the moment after she steps out the scene when she was
talking with his son and goes to her room to kill herself with a white cloth. This clearly shows us
that the author and director of this opera had a great imagination in order to demonstrate what was
not explained in the play; moreover, the author indicates when everything happened and how did it

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity
Cultural Diversity is the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society. There
are many processes of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity. First, there is the obvious discord
between Walt and the young Father of the church. This situation presents cultural differences of
identity; specifically, age and religion. This eventually becomes a hindrance in Walt and his Father
Janovich s perception of each other. Walt does not think Father Janovich is credible due to his age
and his religious cultureof Catholicism, therefore, his dedication to his deceased wife is not
anchored by any firm foundation. Father Janovich wants to keep the promises he made to Walt s
late wife Dorothy, but Walt is not convinced. This difference in cultural identity leads Walt to make
numerous offensive remarks to Father Janovich, but young Janovich s faith allows him to exercise
patience and longsuffering with Walt. Another aspect of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity is
the language barriers. Walt s culture of offensive language creates a cultural divide within his own
family. Though he and his family speak the same language, their inability to communicate inter
culturally creates dysfunction, as shown in the scene Unhappy Birthday. Walt s oldest son and his
wife presents birthday gifts for Walt, as they believe these are thoughtful and will make Walt s life
easier. Entirely out of touch with Walt s goals and values, their gifts and suggestions are dismissed,

Mary Cassatt Essay
Mary Cassatt is known world wide for her impressing art in which she focuses mainly in the
everyday life of women and children. She is an American artist born in Pennsylvania on May
22, 1844, but later relocates to Europe in 1866 to pursue to work in art. This was mainly due to
her family s and society s objections to women in the field of art. There she met and befriended
famous Impressionist Edgar Degas. Because of her close friendship with Degas, she grew courage
to continue to do art in her own way. She continued to paint until she slowly began to lose her
eyesight and later died in 1926. Cassatt was part of the Impressionist style movement, in which she
painted portraits unlike many others who painted landscapes (biography.com). Her artwork... Show

Because of her variety of hues in the work, she uses muted colors to avoid a highly saturated
painting. Her use of blue throughout brings the whole work together. The splash of red orange in
the background helps create balance and unity in the work. Because red is complimentary to green,
it makes the flowers stand out against the green bushes. This helps to balance the work without
calling much attention to the background. The background in the work also seems to be slightly
blurred which calls focus on the subject, thus creating less distractions for the viewer.
Many artists use facial expressions in their figures to enhance the techniques used. The combination
of the woman s worrisome expression with the slightly distressed one of the baby helps reinforce
the mood the use of color has already established. Because of this combination, the title Susan
Comforting the Baby is clearly reflected in the work.
Cassatt s composition is a great example of the impressionist style movement. It is a great everyday
scene showing a mother comforting her child. Cassatt is successful in creating a works of art that
perfectly describe the everyday lives during these times. Her piece Susan Comforting the Baby uses
various techniques to convey Cassatt s message on the ordinary life of women and

Social Welfare Reform
Many of the conflicting interests between different parties in the U.S. are what shaped our
social welfare laws from the colonial period and after the civil war. When looking at the
conflicts we faced back then, it is evident that the greater outlook in society was based off of
morals and the Christian view our country was built on. These beliefs are still very prominent in
our thinking as a society today although there have been some changes in our social welfare, that
go against the law of our creator . One of the main conflicts that occurred after the civil war was
specific to the growing population of immigrants. The conflict arose when many of the new
immigrants began to take jobs in the mines, steel mills, textile factories, and other... Show more

that established change in social welfare, was women entering public life after the civil war.
During the civil war women took jobs that were vacated by men, and felt this was proof of equality.
They were disappointed when the fourteenth amendment explicitly excluded women as voters
(Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). Women were further marginalized in society when the fifteenth
amendment extended suffrage to black men and excluded women. After the fifteenth amendment,
the national African women s suffrage association replaced the American equal rights association,
and asserted that women could increase the educated voting population and reduce the influence
of the ignorant populace, (Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). The number of women that were a part of
this association was small mainly because it was frowned upon, society found it to be a call for
political power and women who demanded it were suspect. The government and society at this
time still favored the Christian outlook and stated that a woman s nature is to attend home duties
and men to do outside work, not only does the law of the creator say this but men s physical
ability to do outside work also solidified this view (Stern Axinn,2012, p.103). Women did begin to
join other organizations which allowed them to find outlets in the limiting world they lived in.
These organizations included the women s auxiliaries of the Patrons of Husbandry, the General
Federation of Women s Clubs, and especially the National Women s Christian Temperance Union
(WCTU) which became the most influential women s organization in the country (Stern
Axinn,2012, p.101 102). Women were able to have these organizations in the public sphere
because they were justified as something that could enrich motherhood. For example as
technological advances took place and there began to be a falling birth rate women began to attend
colleges, this was rationalized by the larger public as education for motherhood (Stern

Allen Stanford s Ponzi Scheme
Allen Stanford s Ponzi scheme is considered to be one of the top grossing Ponzi schemes that have
been at the forefront of white collar crime. As stated on the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission website, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported
returns to earlier investors by the contribution of new investors that promises to generate high
returns with little or no risk (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their faith
in the offender out of trust or any other personal reason and in the case of Allen Stanfordit is no
different. Allen Stanford used his status that he had built throughout his life to take advantage
of many people through the use of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an
empire by defrauding individuals out of what has been reported up to $6 billion and some
sources have estimated up to $8 billion. This paper will discuss how Mr. Stanford went from
king to prison in a 20 year span. Allen Stanford was born in Mexia, Texas to a lower middle class
family. Stanford s parents eventually divorced and he moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Tim Elfrink
of the Broward/Palm Beach New Times stated that people who knew Allen Stanford at a young
age said that he was always out to make a quick buck and he was well known for this. Some of his
first ventures into making moneywere selling firewood (Elfrink, 2009). Bob Wright, an
acquaintance of Stanford s from back in Mexia, Texas

Writing Techniques of Emily Dickinson Essay
Emily Dickinson is one of the most interesting female poets of the nineteenth century. Every author
has unique characteristics about him/her that make one poet different from another, but what cause
Emily Dickinson to be so unique are not only the words she writes, but how she writes them. Her
style of writing is in a category of its own. To understand how and why she writes the way she does,
her background has to be brought into perspective. Every poet has inspiration, negative or positive,
that contributes not only to the content of the writing itself, but the actual form of writing the
author uses to express his/her personal talents. Emily Dickinsonis no different. Her childhood and
adult experiences and culture form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be
somewhat of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things
differently from most others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from
much of society. Of course, her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is
that her being so private is more of a meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to
escape the pressures she feels are normally required of women. She does not want to be a servant
to sick and elderly. She feels she has more potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations
would just be hindrances to her writing (McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of
society as an adult, along with many other aspects known and not known, influence her poems and
the style in which she goes about writing the works. Her techniques of writing are completely
different from any other writer, whether prose or poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by
marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and after. This small maneuver places more
emphasis on her impress of the mind in its analysis of experience (McQuade 1256). Her slant
thymes and unique form of expression produces more of an oddness to the audience.
One of Emily Dickinson s unique forms of writing is her excessive use

Summary Of Bud Not Buddy
Have you ever read of the book Bud, not Buddy ? Well, if you haven t here is a summary of the
book. First off, the books began with the main character, Bud in an orphanage, he gets adopted
by a family of three a mother, a father, and a son named Todd, but when it comes to lying they
believe their son, and only their son. Now, that combo isn t exactly ideal, long story short Bud
gets locked in a shed, he escapes, and then after getting revenge on the Amoses Bud runs away.
Then he finds his friend, Bugs from the orphanage, then they leave to go find a town named
Hooverville, later to discover that Hooverville is a town made of cardboard that homeless
people stay in. Bugs boards a train going west without Bud, then Bud gets an idea that he should
head west to Grand Rapids to find his musically talented father. When Herman E. Calloway who
is totally his father, he gets acquainted with the band and Mrs. Thomas the bands singer. After that
Bud discovers that Heman E. Calloway is actually his grandfather. Now that you know the story
line of Bud, not Buddy it s time you learn how different it would be different if the book was
written in a white girls perspective. First off, the Amoses, in chapters 3 2 Bud slept in... Show more

tender ages, I had known I wanted to save lives. I just didn t know in what capacity it would be. I
can safely say that I grew up faster than most children my age, I had known what it meant to lose

frustration of not being able to do anything to save both. And of course, I couldn t have. I am a
grown man now, equipped with the rationality that comes with education, and most importantly the
informed will to save the world. And I have found an important tool in Medical Physics.
Early in life, I developed an aversion for linearity of mind. As I grew to grasp the concepts of

Disney Vertical Integration
The first type of media structure used by Disney that I will be talking about is vertical
integration. Vertical integration is where firms in a company are working at different stages but
on the same production path . For example Disney own Walt Disney studios, Sky walker sound,
Disney digital post and Touch stone pictures. All of these companies will work on the same
production but only in the area they are equipped for. For example the new Stars Wars film, Walt
Disneystudios will work on recording the content where as Sky walker sound will work on the
sound whilst the recording is going on. This is very effective as it speeds up the process of
production and it also means Disney can profit from every aspect of making movies as Disney

For example the AOL company spent 186.2 billion on Time Warner when they merged in 2002
which made it the biggest merger ever. This was an unsuccessful merger as AOL based its model
on dial up modems but consumers were switching to broadband. So subscribers ended leaving
AOL and within 2 years AOL had about $99 billion wiped off its value. In 2009 the companies

The advantages of merging with a company is you get shared power over the market, and also you
make profits from both companies so your money increases. The disadvantages of mergers are that
you will get a loss of experienced workers as one company already has one set of specific workers
and another company may have different people qualified for the same job so some people will get
fired. Also mergers wont always be successful (like the AOL Time Warner merger has shown) as
when your buying a share of a company your buying a belief, and beliefs aren t always

journal article chosen, What has personality and emotional intelligence to do with feeling different
while using a foreign language? was to find a link, between the individual s personality, emotional
intelligenceand feelings while talking in the foreign language. In order to test this, two sets of

The participants chosen for the study, however, comprised of 102 individuals with a larger
majority of females as opposed to males. The age range had been set between the ranges of 17 to
58 years with varying degrees of educational achievements.
The results that were obtained indicated that extraversion (a first order trait) had played a key
role in identifying when an individual felt different while they were speaking in another
language. Where as, the other first order traits like language proficiency, age and gender were
irrelevant. Furthermore, the results had also shown that emotional intelligence (a second order
trait) played an essential role in allowing individuals to detect when they felt different. It was
concluded that since individuals who were extraverted, generally tended to be more open to new
experiences and were more sociable they therefore were able to identify the change in their
behavior and personality more adequately than for example individuals who were more
introverted. Similarly, individuals who had shown that they scored higher on the emotional
intelligence test, represented a group of people who were able to see change in their personality
since they were attuned with their emotions, such as sympathy, empathy, sociability, social
awareness, etc. As a result, it was observed that to some capacity each order played a role in
identifying how the individual felt, however, what was crucial about the study was to realize that
while the traits

  • 2. Oral Health Among Korean Older Adults Title: Using CBPR Methods to Address Oral Health among Korean Older Adults 1.Significance: The proposed research, which uses Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) methods, builds on Dr. Ahluwalia s existing work with homebound older adults, which seeks to inform oral health policy for New York City home delivered meal recipients in New York City (NYC). The proposed research will focus on working with the Korean community in NYC to understand oral health needs among Korean older adults, and to use the data collected to inform the development of oral health related interventions for this population. A recent review of the oral health literature indicates that there are few studies that document oral health needs among Koreans in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the goal of this project is to use CBPR methods to collaborate with partners in the Korean community to address oral health among a particularly vulnerable subset of the Korean community older adults who may have significant medical, cognitive and functional co morbidities, and who may find it difficult to navigate the oral and health care systems due to challenges associated with language, transportation and culture. By working with KCS, we hope to improve the visibility of oral health in the Korean community, and to leverage the potential of the collaboration to address oral health in other Korean groups e.g. children and family. CBPR methods are an effective way to achieve this goal because they require working closely with KCS, the community partner, and seek to enhance the capacity of the community, thus enhancing the potential sustainability of future intervention programs. The proposed research can potentially impact approximately 5000 Korean seniors through KCS. The proposed research builds on Dr. Kavita Ahluwalia s continuing CBPR project titled Oral health and nutrition in NYC HDM recipients . I have been working with Dr.Ahluwalia on this project for the past year. I want to extend and apply what I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Michael Jordan s Accomplishments And Career Why are we so fascinated with Michael Jordan and his accomplishments and career? What is it that Michael Jordan is trying to tell us in his short, but amazing, commercial? Most of America idolize this individual, Michael Jordan. We ask ourselves, how has one individual accomplished so much and come so far from pretty much nothing. In this short Maybe video we find a lot of our questions have been answered. While watching this video, for the first time, I was blown away with all that he states. His main message to me was we must work hard every single day of our lives, if we want to have great and extraordinary success. Don t make up excuses, just have the strength to become what you want to be. Succeed in life because you want to succeed, not because others want or expect you to. We need to know that with hard work and dedication comes great success. We live in a world that we blame others for our failures and short comings. We are each in control of our own destiny, no one can change that. Michael Jordan worked hard daily, not once a week or once a month, daily. He was determined to accomplish what he felt was his destiny. There was so many supporting images in his short video to support who and where he came from. Right from the beginning with the statue with a list of his accomplishments, that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would have to list commitment as the first. Without the commitment, this individual has, his career would not have been as accomplished. He was dedicated, at a very young age, to succeed and not give up. He is very inspiring to people, especially to younger children. Many young boys I have spoken with aspire to be just like Michael Jordan. • 4. Discrimination Of Genes In The Film Gattaca Both in the movie Gattaca and in the early 20th century, children were genetically engineered to be the optimal recombination of parent s genes. In the movie, Vincent was given 99% probability of developing congenital heart defect and life expectancy of 30.2. In the eugenic movement in the early 20th century, congenital defect was classified as unfit. Although he was not executed, he faced lots of discrimination from the perfect society. In 1911, prisoners and children residing in poor houses were sterilized involuntarily. Moreover, Preliminary Report by the Committee of the Eugenic Section of the American Breeder s Association recommended Euthanasia to keep up the standard of the race. In contrast, in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was not discriminated because of his social status, color, or race. However, in the eugenicsmovement in the US in the early 20th century there was discrimination because of social status, color, and race. For example, The Racial Integrity Act of Virginia, made a marriage between a white and non white a felony and then 1927, Virginia state was allowed sterilization of people considered genetically unfit. Well, the genetic engineeringhas been legislated to a certain extent. At the age when ultrasound was used to detect health of a fetus, India legislated that doctors cannot reveal gender of the baby to the parent due to a highly patriarchal society where a male child is highly revered and a female is shame of the family. Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around youth conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much to both. This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy throughout The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows this in the novel as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues which is used to class all us boys on the east side ... we re poorer than the socs this indicates that the characters in the outsiders were classed upon money, showing us that SE Hinton is trying to show the theme stereotypes.... • 6. Reform Judaism As Liberal And Progressive Judaism Reform Judaism also known as Liberal and Progressive Judaism is the large institutionalized religion that I chose. The locations that Reform Judaism is practiced in are 43 countries around the world and started in the Levant. They also have a headquarters in New York City, New York the Union for Reform Judaism, Central Conference of American Rabbis. Reform Judaism emerged following the emancipation from ghetto life in the late 18 th century. It sought to modernize Judaism and thus stem the tide of assimilation threatening German Jewry (Jews for Jesus). Abraham Geiger is considered to be the founder of the Reform movement. While he was investigating Jewish history he discovered that many of the old practices were changed in favor of new ones. Geiger also felt that the more changes that are made to keep up with the times will make Judaism attractive to all Jews. OlmecReligionwas the small traditional religion that I chose. Well, late in the sense that I hadn t noticed zombies in pop culture, not late in the sense that zombies had taken over. At least I hope the movies didn t have real zombies acting like zombies, or else the world as we know it would be in a whole lot of trouble. The undead are everywhere in popular culture. Zombies appear in video games such as Doom, Zelda and Left 4 Dead. They are in movies like 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, and Zombieland. They are in books like those of Max Brooks. However, I am no expert when it comes to everything that zombies are in, just what has caught my attention. But Zombieland isn t the only piece of zombie popular culture that has rules; there are many books and other movies that have important rules to follow in a land swarmed by zombies. There is the Zombie Survival Guide written by Max Brooks, which covers a variety of knowledge on the topics of zombie survival. The book talks about warning signs, weapons, shelters, food, and other supplies needed. This also has a set of rules that one should follow, but not necessarily in a list format. Some important rules from the Zombie Survival Guide would be Use your head; cut off theirs, Blades don t need reloading, and most importantly The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on. We could see this through people s reactions to God and the good things they did. Through Jesus s teaching, not only Paul and people in the Bible, but every Christian is becoming better people. Among all the apostles, the change from Saul to Paul is the most amazing one for me. The name Saul was once a deadly word for the citizens under Saul s control. He hated Christians at first. He arrested and even killed a lot of apostles. Evil and cruel are the two words that best described him. He was a demon before he was changed by Jesus. In Acts 9, Saul was completely changed. His hesitation reflected the evilness of Saul. God chose Ananias because of his pure faith. The evilness that stopped a faithful apostle from obeying God s order must be huge. It indirectly showed how bad Saul was and how huge the change was as well. The reaction of Ananias is an important element in here. Saul s changes were unbelievable. He was such an evil killer three days ago. No one could imagine that three days later, he became a true believer of Jesus. Jesus purified his soul. This made him act like a savior. All the sins were washed away. He became a faithful follower in Jesus and God. The bible talked a lot about his faith after being healed. In Acts 21, Paul was arrested by the Jews. He was with the people that grabbed him. After he turned to Jesus, he showed his faith towards God. He could have been with the persecutors and keep looking for Christians. However, he gave up the life he was used to and changed all his characteristics. Acts 22 described the things he did after he was released. He said, I was very serious about serving God, the same as all of you here today. (Acts 22:3) He stood in front of the people that wanted to kill him several minutes ... The Oregon Territory wasn t really owned by anyone. Texas gained their independence from Mexico in 1836, and Mexico from Spain in 1821. The U.S. was justified in going to war with Mexicobecause Mexico let Texas be independent in 1836, Mexico attacked the U.S. first, and Mexico had treated Texas badly before Texas was independent. Easter Island Collapse Essay ABSTRACT Easter Island, also known by the indigenous name Rapa Nui, is a remote island in the south Pacific Ocean located over 2000 miles off the coast of Chile and over 1250 miles from the nearest Polynesian island. Easter Island is best known for the hundreds of statues scattered across the island, largely because the question of how exactly these statues got to where they rest has stirred the minds of many theorists since the island s discovery by the Dutch Admiral Roggeveen on Easter Sunday of 1722. The purpose of this research paper is to take a consequentialist approach to explore the ethical claims Diamond makes of environmental irresponsibility on Easter Island and its unique case of deforestation. I hold that Diamond s claim of Easter Island s self induced environmental degradation is wholly misleading as a parable for our planet s current path toward environmental sustainability. Rather, I will show that the past inhabitants of this small island were, in fact, environmental stewards, and that they overcame challenges that were brought on by causes that were completely out of their control. Furthermore, I will explain how Diamond s claim that Easter Island being a fair comparison is very misleading in regards to our current environmental situation, as the occurrences on Easter Island are far different than what put our planet in the environmental challenges we are currently ... • 16. Juicing College Essay There seems to be a war of sorts going on about what kind of juicer is the best. It s understandable when you are considering doing something that so radically changes your method of nutritional intake. To go from cooked foods from every food category and source to consuming raw juice either as some of your intake to all of your intake it is best to know why you want to juice and what your goals are. One of the best uses of juicing is to detoxify your system. Fast and then consume large amounts of purely nutritious, unprocessed and usually organic fruits and vegetables. This could be done by eating a TON of fresh fruits and vegetables but for some that doesn t sound appetizing so juicing is a great solution. The Mayo Clinic s Jennifer Nelson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is helpful to have variable speed for different consistency foods. It must do this without any heat, a big issue for some juicers but since no juicer on the market heats the juice while producing it to the point of more than like 3% loss of nutritional value, which is one more swallow, I am unsure of the controversy. Just choose an auger type juicer (most) instead of the centrifugal juicer. Variable speed is important when wanting one juicer for both hard and soft foods. Leafy vegetables and wheat grass need slower speeds than harder vegetables or fruits. You need a good warranty and a juicer that you can easily order parts for. Start out with variable speed, over 500watts, auger type with simple parts and clean up and you are good to go. I will note here however that most serious juicers have more than one machine. They have collected over the years one for hard stuff, one for soft stuff and one for leafy. I am just saying... In conclusion seriously, if you are considering juicing for the first time, find a used juicer at a thrift store or garage sale or borrow one for awhile and see if juicing is really right for you before spending hundreds of dollars on something that could end up in the garage. • 17. Queen Elizabeth 1588 Essay ELIZABETH I. AGAINST THE SPANISH ARMADA. 1588 This oration is both a political speech and a narrative text. It was given by Queen Elizabeth the 1st of England on august the 9th of 1588 to her troops at Tilbury, Essex. The purpose and intention of this speech was to support and motivate her soldiers just before they go off to battle to face in those days what was known as to be one of the greatest powers in all of Europe the Spanish Armada. Led by Phillip II of Spain and the Duke of Parma (his nephew). This particular version of the speech that I will be commenting on is accepted as being authentic and it has become the most famous one. It was recorded by Dr. Leonel Sharp (1559 1631) an English churchman and archdeacon of Berkshire in a letter to the Duke of Buckingham a bit after 1623. For example, in Vivaldi s second concerto summer he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement. The atmosphere is extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun. The plaintive signs of the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a tiring exertion, it gives no hint to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two). One example of this takes place with the Sumerian people of Mesopotamia. Beer drinkers were widely depicted as drinking with a straw, this became a symbol of hospitality and friendship, the tradition of clinking glasses when sharing alcohol also can be traced to beer. Another subtle, yet important way that beer contributed to society is that it helped eliminate the nomadic hunter gathering lifestyle from before. b.Beer also helped influence the history of some societies. The constant thirst for beer led to the creation of mash tubs made specifically for creating beer; this in turn allowed people to become more creative. By adding things such as berries, honey, spices and herbs to the tubs, the beer altered in taste and thus, became a drink used for different occasions. This war was between western countries, such as Britain, and the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China between 1644 and 1911. The First Opium War was conducted from 1839 to 1842, and was between China and Britain. The reasoning for the war occurring was caused by China s attempts to withhold the Opium trade. It was over diplomatic relations, trade, and the administration of foreign nationals in China. Opium was illegally being imported into China, through India, by the British. They grew the opium on their plantations in India. At first, the British were addicted to stimulating Chinese tea. Trade imbalance occurred due to the Chinese buying few European products and demanding Gold or Silver in return. The reverse flow of Silver and the increasing number of opium addicts alarmed Chinese officials, and resulted in over 20,000 chests of opium to be confiscated. Practical Implications of Deviance is Relative There is no absolute way of defining deviating acts. Deviance can only be defined in a relation to certain norms, but no standards are permanent. Norms can involve being within stereotypical viewpoints. Counter stereotypical behavior may be viewed as acts of deviance; Phelan and Rudman defined backlash effects as social and economic penalties for counter stereotypical behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If society does not have any means of enforcing its norms, then that means anyone can do anything he/she wants. Without laws, society will become anarchy. An example is a murderer breaking the law and killing another human being for religious purposes. He will experience negative sanctions. He will either be on the run, in detention, or facing capital punishment. Because of possible circumstances, sanctions are necessary. Medicalization of deviance means to make deviance a medical matter; a symptom of some underlying illness that needs to be treated by physicians. Certain acts of deviance can be a sign of mental illness: Rape, murder, stealing, cheating and so on. Mental illness can stand for illogical thinking process. Thomas Szasz argues that mental illnesses are neither mental nor illnesses. They are simply problem behaviors. The problem with his theory is behavior results from thinking. Before a person is raped, the rapist contemplates about the most efficient way to rape someone. His contemplation or thinking process happened before his behavior. Another example is adultery. Whenever someone commits adultery, the person is aroused by sexual thoughts first. Subsequently, the act or behavior of adultery proceeds after the thoughts. My own analyses of stories that had been told to me helped lead me to this conclusion. The thoughts are the causes which lead to the effects: the behavior. • 35. All Quiet On The Western Front Human Nature Essay In Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, human nature is the only abstract periphery between belligerent barbarism and justifiable violence. Through the insipid bombardments that rained shells over the Germans heads and noxious implementation of mustard gas, Remarque dexterously misleads the reader into believing that he fights in an apathetic war where all remnants of human natureand identity have been destroyed with the introduction of trench warfare. Through Paul Baumer s eyes, Remarque identifies war as an artificial construct devoid of human identity and any subsequent emotions until the first bombardment, the first glimpse Baumer has of the unfettered abominations of war. After the shrieking of artillery shells ceased, it was replaced by the numbing scream of injured horses. Paul described this abhorrent noise as the moaning of the world..., wild with anguish, filled with terror, and groaning (Remarque 62), the first emotionally provocative scene in the novel. As if the description of the noise did not suffice to pique the reader, Remarque continues, The belly of one is ripped open, the guts trail out. He becomes tangled in them and falls... (Remarque 63). At this instant, Remarque sheds the obscure layer of superficiality and reveals the tatters of human nature and identity still exist even in most anguish conditions of comeradeship, sympathy, contrition, and selflessness. As the war worsens, Baumer and his colleagues gradually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a play area as well which was located right when you walk into the room. The room was bright, and had a lot of natural light coming in from the windows. There are many processes of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity. First, there is the obvious discord between Walt and the young Father of the church. This situation presents cultural differences of identity; specifically, age and religion. This eventually becomes a hindrance in Walt and his Father Janovich s perception of each other. Walt does not think Father Janovich is credible due to his age and his religious cultureof Catholicism, therefore, his dedication to his deceased wife is not anchored by any firm foundation. Father Janovich wants to keep the promises he made to Walt s late wife Dorothy, but Walt is not convinced. This difference in cultural identity leads Walt to make numerous offensive remarks to Father Janovich, but young Janovich s faith allows him to exercise patience and longsuffering with Walt. Another aspect of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity is the language barriers. Walt s culture of offensive language creates a cultural divide within his own family. During the civil war women took jobs that were vacated by men, and felt this was proof of equality. They were disappointed when the fourteenth amendment explicitly excluded women as voters (Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). Women were further marginalized in society when the fifteenth amendment extended suffrage to black men and excluded women. After the fifteenth amendment, the national African women s suffrage association replaced the American equal rights association, and asserted that women could increase the educated voting population and reduce the influence of the ignorant populace, (Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). The number of women that were a part of this association was small mainly because it was frowned upon, society found it to be a call for political power and women who demanded it were suspect. The government and society at this time still favored the Christian outlook and stated that a woman s nature is to attend home duties and men to do outside work, not only does the law of the creator say this but men s physical ability to do outside work also solidified this view (Stern Axinn,2012, p.103). The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be somewhat of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things differently from most others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from much of society. Of course, her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is that her being so private is more of a meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to escape the pressures she feels are normally required of women. She does not want to be a servant to sick and elderly. She feels she has more potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations would just be hindrances to her writing (McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of society as an adult, along with many other aspects known and not known, influence her poems and the style in which she goes about writing the works. Her techniques of writing are completely different from any other writer, whether prose or poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and after. I can safely say that I grew up faster than most children my age, I had known what it meant to lose a father at six, I had seen an aunt die of what they said was cancerat ten. I had also known the frustration of not being able to do anything to save both. And of course, I couldn t have. I am a grown man now, equipped with the rationality that comes with education, and most importantly the informed will to save the world. And I have found an important tool in Medical Physics. Early in life, I developed an aversion for linearity of mind. As I grew to grasp the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, I discovered what I call the harmony of science. I realized that scientific problems were best solved via a holistic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The result of the research, which employed the instrumentation of gamma spectroscopy at the Centre for Energy and Research Development (CERD) located at the Obafemi Awolowo University, showed elevated levels of naturally occurring radioactive isotopes of Uranium, Thorium and Potassium. This aroused my fascination, in that I never sthought it possible that a seemingly harmless substance like clean water could be of serious health significance. It made me conclude that clean water, although odorless, colorless and tasteless, is not necessary healthy water. As I yearned for a deeper understanding of the subject of Medical Physics, i got enrolled into a Master of Science degree in program Medical Physics, again, at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, ... • 54. Disney Vertical Integration The first type of media structure used by Disney that I will be talking about is vertical integration. Vertical integration is where firms in a company are working at different stages but on the same production path . For example Disney own Walt Disney studios, Sky walker sound, Disney digital post and Touch stone pictures. All of these companies will work on the same production but only in the area they are equipped for. For example the new Stars Wars film, Walt Disneystudios will work on recording the content where as Sky walker sound will work on the sound whilst the recording is going on. This is very effective as it speeds up the process of production and it also means Disney can profit from every aspect of making movies as Disney produce,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example the AOL company spent 186.2 billion on Time Warner when they merged in 2002 which made it the biggest merger ever. This was an unsuccessful merger as AOL based its model on dial up modems but consumers were switching to broadband. So subscribers ended leaving AOL and within 2 years AOL had about $99 billion wiped off its value. In 2009 the companies were de merged The advantages of merging with a company is you get shared power over the market, and also you make profits from both companies so your money increases. The disadvantages of mergers are that you will get a loss of experienced workers as one company already has one set of specific workers and another company may have different people qualified for the same job so some people will get fired. Also mergers wont always be successful (like the AOL Time Warner merger has shown) as when your buying a share of a company your buying a belief, and beliefs aren t always ... The participants chosen for the study, however, comprised of 102 individuals with a larger majority of females as opposed to males. The age range had been set between the ranges of 17 to 58 years with varying degrees of educational achievements. The results that were obtained indicated that extraversion (a first order trait) had played a key role in identifying when an individual felt different while they were speaking in another language. Where as, the other first order traits like language proficiency, age and gender were irrelevant. Furthermore, the results had also shown that emotional intelligence (a second order trait) played an essential role in allowing individuals to detect when they felt different. It was concluded that since individuals who were extraverted, generally tended to be more open to new experiences and were more sociable they therefore were able to identify the change in their behavior and personality more adequately than for example individuals who were more introverted. Similarly, individuals who had shown that they scored higher on the emotional intelligence test, represented a group of people who were able to see change in their personality since they were attuned with their emotions, such as sympathy, empathy, sociability, social awareness, etc. As a result, it was observed that to some capacity each order played a role in identifying how the individual felt, however, what was crucial about the study was to realize that while the traits ...
