A parking structure is being built for the new Livermore BART station. The
Livermore Department of Transportation would like to provide as many parking
spaces as possible in the parking structure. This study will determine an ideal
parking space size in order to maximize the amount of available spaces while still
accommodating an appropriate range of car sizes.
Methods
We located a sample pool of automobiles that accurately reflected the socio economic
demographic of the Livermore area to determine the type of cars owned in the
community. From this sample we determined the range in car sizes that would be
parking in the new parking structure. We measured a sample of the automobile s
lengths and widths to determine the mean and deviation of the vehicles the new
parking structure would need to accommodate. We determined the seven parking
lots of Las Positas College was an accurate and large enough representation of the
demographic that would be utilizing the Livermore BART station parking structure.

living in Hungary and eventually sent to Auschwitz with his family. The moment
his family exits the cattle car the horror of Auschwitz sets in. His mother and
sisters become separated from him and his father immediately, their fate sealed.
Elie stays with his father and right away a stranger is giving them tips on how to
survive and stay together. Immediately told to lie about their ages, making Elie a
little older, and his father a little younger. This lie may have been the only chance
they had to stay together, so they follow the stranger s advice and pass by the first
peril and housed together.
According to the introduction Elie knew that one day the Holocaust and the time
surrounding it would be judged, so he dedicated his life to informing people through
books about these times. He wanted to make sure his first hand account was heard
and just maybe people could somehow through the language barrier and all get a
glimpse of the brutality inside a concentration camp. Wiesel s attempt with Night was
to open people s eyes to the inhumane murder of six million Jews and prevent it from
ever happening again. Elie knew he could not just stay silent and bear witness to the
holocaust but stand up and be a voice for the millions who suffered a very different
fate.

War has been a terrible part of the human existence since the beginning of time.
According to historians there has been only 268 years of peace out of the nearly
3,500 years that civilized humans have existed (Hedges). That is a staggering
statistic showing how deep rooted war is in the minds and hearts of people. So
while war itself might be inevitable the outcome of any given conflict is anything
but predictable. There are many different elements that come into play during
combat but perhaps the most influential factor is geography. In fact, geography has
been such an important part of war that a new field of study has emerged in recent
years entitled military geography. On particular war where the affect of geography
can be seen is World War I
. During this war the newly formed Germany attempts to
invade Franceand gain control over Western Europe. This was invasion was designed
to be quick and decisive with Germany overwhelming Franc in as little as six
weeks. However, this plan failed terribly and led to one of the bloodiest, most
gruesome war of attrition the world as ever seen. A reason for this failure was the
geography of Western Europe. The land in this region is fairly level and flat
providing little to no cover for attacking forces. This geography played a pivotal role
in determining the outcome of two of the most well known battles of World War I,

Through the eyes of society everyone has a set role they are expected to fulfill and
certain characteristics they are supposed to exemplify. These roles and characteristics,
this discourse, tells everyone how they should act and speak. For women it is the role
of the mother. In our culture, that means raising the children, completing the
household chores, and cooking all of the meals to perfection. Women are typical
thought of as being demure and polite, small in stature, and submissive to the male
gender. In the reverse, men also have certain roles that they are expected to fill and
characteristics they are supposed to exemplify. Men are expected to be strong,
dominant, and in charge of their families. They are often depicted, both in the
media and in life, as the leaders. This discourse that we all follow can frequently be
seen in Svava Jakobsdottir s A Story for Children. The short story tells the tale of a
woman as she raises her children and takes care of her household. The mother is
completely devoted to her children and seeks to fulfill her role in the hometo the
fullest extent. As the story progresses, the main character slowly has pieces of
herself removed by her children: her toe, her brain, and finally her heart. At the end of
the text, after all of the children have become adults started families of their own, the
mother realizes that she now has nothing and feels useless. In her short story,

The yellow is also another evident color in the art. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, joy
and happiness. This is the message that Romero Britto wants to show in all his
paintings the celebration of a happy life.
We can observe a little bit of blue on the globe that the children are holding, which
represents the ocean, but also we can observe it on the children s body, with another
meaning. The dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. The turquoise, found on
the hair of the boy is the symbol of youth, and also the color of communication. It
contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Finally,
the aqua is the color of high ideals.
Brown and green are other colors found in the art. Combined, they represent
wholesomeness and earthiness. They can signify growth and represent the simplicity,
friendliness, dependability, renewal, and environment.
The Shapes and Lines
Talking about the lines, we can observe that the picture contains curves, parallel
lines, and diagonal lines. Analyzing the shapes, we can find circles and organic

Circles represent the eternal whole and in every culture are the form that represents
the sun, the earth, the moon, and the universe. They have free movement, are warm,
