3. Assessing The Damage Of Mountain Pine Beetle Infestation
Introduction
The objective of this study is to utilize Local indicator of spatial association
(LISA), in particular the bivariate local Moran s I, as a procedure for evaluating the
damage of mountain pine beetle infestation over vast lodgepole pine forest with GIS
and coarse scale multi temporal Aerial overview survey (AOS) data. The authors
point out beetle infestation results in commercial timber loss, increase fire risk,
habitat loss. They also point out, a growing concern of spreading beyond its historical
range. And traditional mitigation methods have been expensive and time consuming.
Therefore this study sets out to help forest managers address beetle infestation
epidemics in a cost effective and timelier manner using Moran s I risk analysis model.
The study site was located in British Columbia, Canada. The site was selected base
on its abundance of lodgepole pine; a favoured tree of the mountain pine beetle. The
area covered approximately 30 million hectares of the province 95 million hectare
land mass. The pine distribution data collected from the AOS which was 1 km
resolution raster cells where each cell is represented by the estimated percentage of
pine at the location from the years 2002 to 2006. The method was carried out in
three parts (i.e. organising data, predicting risk classes, risk rating evaluation). Firstly,
the authors prepared the data in ArcGIS where they overlaid AOS data onto
basemaps then classified the data into risk severity categories (light,

6. The Pros And Cons Of The Criminal Court System
Crime is something we hear about daily, the criminal justice system is designed to
control crime and impose penalties on those who violate laws. Our Criminal Court
Systems are in place to ensure fair trials, and that the innocent are protected, and
guilty are punished. The criminal courts system is not without its flaws there are
cases where innocent people are punished for crimes they did not commit and some
guilty are set free based on poor evidence. There are no systems that are full proof,
humans are involved and mistakes can be made. Once a person is arrested for a crime
and trial begins we will see both sides, the prosecution and defense, present their
cases and try to convey to the jurythe guilt or innocence s of the accused. In this case
we have two teenagers, Tim Barns and Jack Carter, who were charged with murder.
It was alleged that they kidnapped two 10 year old boys. They beat and tortured the
boys, before killing them. The victims were found in a wooded area, just outside of
town. Prosecutors have to present a case against the defense to prove to the jury
beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty. Prosecutors ensure that justice
is served, often by making persuasive arguments in a trial against a defendant, or
individual who is accused of committing a crime. The prosecutorrepresents the
government in criminal prosecutions. Prosecutors spend large amounts of time before
trials researching the law, preparing arguments, examining evidence, and

Corinthians 1 main idea is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is significant to all
measurements of chapel life. For a congregation that countenances numerous issues,
Paul expounds on the effortlessness that offers energy to God and the need to know
Christ just and he was executed. There would be possible things that all churches
could gain as knowledge from Corinthians 1.
Context
Paul utilizes the analogy of the body to clarify what the congregation is, as well as
basically how it should function. Before entering this entry it is important to have
some thought of how the congregation to which Paul composes this message is.
The city of Corinth was in Greece, it was one of its ports. It was made out of
residents from better places, which
8. Speech On Empathy
Have you ever heard the saying that goes place yourself into the shoes of others ?
Let s analyze and take a deep look into the phrase. By placing ourselves into
somebody s shoes we develop a feeling of connection with them, better known as
empathy. The question is, what is empathy? Empathy is the ability to understand and
share the feelings of others. People often confuse empathywith pity, but it is actually
aiming the understanding of people s feelings and perspectives. And by
understanding them we learn how to use them to guide our actions. I believe that in
order to change our society, people should be able to learn how to feel empathy or
compassion for others. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:15 to Be happy with those
who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
I believe empathy is formed at home. When we are kids, our parents teach us the
golden rule, which is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As we
grow older, we are taught that itВґs important to care about people s feelings. We
grow up with the idea that we shouldn t only care about ourselves, but always be
concerned for others. In my opinion, everyone should desire ... Show more content on

Even though it seems to be a difficult process, the results would be totally worth it.
Step number one is to cultivate curiosity about strangers. By doing this, we find
other people more interesting than ourselves, decreasing our level of selfishness.
Step number two is to challenge prejudices. Our society is marked with labels.
These labels avoid us from appreciating individuality. Instead of looking for things
that divide us, we should be searching for what we have in common and in a way
what unites us. This way, we could get an easy way or path into equality, fairness
and sensibility. Last but not least, we should listen hard and open up . Listening is
not enough, we need to open our hearts and feelings to create an empathic
9. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traffic Control
DENSITY BASED TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM A new density based traffic
control system is described here, which is capable of detecting, counting, and
controlling vehicles, thereby reducing the traffic congestion. Before explaining about
the proposed system, some of the existing traffic control methods and their
disadvantages are described below.
4.1 EXISTING TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS
In real world there are many traffic controlling schemes established already. These
schemes are described below.
4.1.1Manual Controlling
This is the simplest form of traffic control. As the name indicates it require man
power to control the traffic. Depending on the countries and states the traffic polices
are allotted for a required area or city to control the traffic by analyzing the traffic
conditions. A traffic police stands in the middle of roadand monitors flow of traffic.
The traffic polices will have things like sign board, sign light and whistle to control
the traffic. In time of congestion he gives signals to the vehicle driver whether to
drive or stop. He is also able to recognize emergency case, so he can choose which
lane needs more priority than other.
4.1.2Automatic Timer Control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system includes simple three color traffic signal. A fixed time is allotted for
each lane. The lights are automatically getting ON and OFF depending on the timer
value changes. While using electrical sensors it will capture the availability of the
vehicle and signals on each phase, depending on the signal the lights automatically
switch ON and OFF. Before green light, yellow light flashes for few second,
signifying to start your vehicle and be ready to go. For all the time red light is on,
ordering each vehicle to stop. This method is efficient than manual controlling

How Planned was the Soviet Economy
As Marxists claim that capitalism is anarchic, planless, inefficient and wastes human
and natural resources , what with the modern advances made by Russia in such a
short space of time, one would assume that the Soviet economy between 1924 and
1939 was meticulously planned and controlled. However, many facts would beg to
differ and instead suggest the contrary.
It is true that institutes of planning existed in Russia in the period concerned. As of
July 1922, VSNKh operated its control over industry by methods of a production
planning character . The institution was responsible for the drafting of production and
disposal plans amongst other things. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must not overlook the timing of the First Plan and brand it an accident. The Left
Opposition had originally proposed rapid industrialization to be the part s primary
priority. Now that they had been defeated the government was able to adopt their
industrialization policies without putting them in power. Industrialization also came
hand in hand with collectivisation as machinery such as tractors had to be produced.
1921 to 1927 were the years of the NEP.VSNKh can be said to have just regulated
the economy during the NEP as opposed to doing anything else. However in all
fairness, it is difficult to even talk about a planned economy between the years of
1924 and 1928, whatever the role of the state planning institutions, as the state did not
run the most effective parts of the economy. The state s ability to plan was greatly
hindered by the fact that it ran heavy industry and not agriculture. Between 1921 and
1927 the state industrial sector stagnated while agriculture flourished in the private
sector.
The 1921 famine had led to a decline in the amount of land sown in the following
year due to a shortage of seed and peasants fit to work in the affected provinces.
However, the harvest in 1922 was of an acceptable standard, with the land sown in
the following year just short of 90 per cent of the pre war level. Although at this time

Robotic surgery has become a form competing throughout hospitals worldwide.
Many hospitals want to outdo competing hospitals, this leads to inaccurate
perceptions of the robotic process for patients. Ultimately, patients who are not
candidates for this process tend to have it done regardless. In turn, Massachusetts
health officials sent an advisory to the state s hospitals urging caution: As with any

should be aware of the stipulations it holds to ensure the safety of

Paul is the author of the book of Titus. The book of Titus was written around the
years 63 65 A.D. The letter was addressed to Titus who was a gentile and a

Second Timothy are called Pastoral Epistles. The reason for being categorized that
way is because the letters emphasizes the reason for having leaders within the church.

the Cretans were documented in hunting, fishing, and engaged in pagan worship.
In the year 3000 B.C. and the years following, immigrants from Northern Africa

Bronze Age and the Greek empire would grow and become more powerful. In the
years after 2000 B.C. is when most of the palaces and the other artifacts that are still

During the time that Paul and Titus were there, the Cretans were at a deplorable
moral level. They were dishonest, gluttonous, and lazy. Titus had to overcome
their way of life and preach the Gospel to them. Some of the offices that were
within the church were not being taken seriously, so, Paul listed certain attributes
that an elder must possess. The modern day bishop most likely would be
comparable to a deacon in some protestant churches and a bishop in the Catholic
Church. (Votaw, Clyde W. pg. 130 38) The role of an elder in this day in time
would have to be hospitable and friendly. During this age and time, Inns were dirty

Individuals all view the world from different angles, each having different
perceptions from a person standing within an inch of them. For instance, the way
certain males view football as a remarkable sport for legends differs greatly from
what some women see it to be, a sport for egotistic fools . This idea of one not
being able to fully comprehend a situation or topic identically also applies to the
truth. Individuals tend to have diverse ways of inspecting the truth, as the absolute
truth can never be obtained by standing in one individual s shoes, it necessitates a
various quantity of perspectives. Humans are not able to look at the truth due to the

Robertson devotes years of his life fighting for the truth that human rights must be
maintained. Robertson portrays to the observers that a prolonged wait on death row
(2 years and more) breaches Human Rights due to it being an environment where
prisoner s personality is incredibly brutalised. This use of high modality illustrates
Robertson s morals and views on the death penalty being a punishment that does not
support the human rights of individuals. Robertson s morals disable him from getting
a clear perception of the truth, as he does not see the benefits that exist. However the
government is able to identify the benefits, and gain a view Robertson is not able to,
due to their different morals. The government believes capital punishment does not
breach human rights; they defend the policy of having capital punishment by
referring to it as a deterrent.
Robertson shapes the view of the government by stating the death penalty does not
deter murder... it tends to increase it by socially sanctioning violent revenge, this
connotation allows to perceive their view to be thoughtless and incoherent, as their
actions encourage human right violations thus showing the government too cannot
perceive the utter truth due to their very own morals It is only when all these

16. Basketball Shoes Research Paper
There are plenty of trends that go on in our modern day era. One of the most
expensive ones would be the increasing price in basketball shoes. The increasing
price is due to many people being brand washed, meaning that the consumer buys
the product from a brand, just because of the name and the status of it. Also an
increase in labor costs in China all are factors that increase the price of basketball
shoes in China. Because of the increase in material cost, it increases the general
release cost for a sneaker. The effect of constantly increasing shoe prices on the
consumer market, is that brands will start releasing sneakers with storylines / special
editions, and will charge at least a two hundred dollar price tag for coveted sneakers.

Though the price tags on these basketball shoes can be seen as ridiculous, these
companies are still making a huge sales off these shoes, largely because our society
brand washed most of these brands customers to pay that much for shoes. According
to www.statista.com, Nike s revenue worldwide is $30,601 Million, their net income
worldwide is $3,273 million and there number of retail stores worldwide is 931.
Also according to www.statista.com , Adidas net sales worldwide is 14,535
million Euros, their net profit was 524 million Euros and their number of stores
worldwide is 1,746. Even with these hefty prices, at which companies are selling
their products, they are still making huge profits globally and will continue to make
big profits, due purely to the name of their brand, despite the prices. The increases
in these companies prices, it has increased the price of other companies basketball
shoes such as, Under Armor and Peak. Also it has sunk cheaper shoe companies like
And 1 and Reebok.
Also to include more foreign basketball shoe companies, for example China s Li

Peak brand brought in over 530 million in revenue and can be seen on NBA
players feet all over the league. These prices are not only burning holes in people s
pockets but they are also sending the young crowds crazy, to the point where it is
leading to violence. Rising sneaker prices can be attributed to
17. Ethanol And Alternative Sources Of Energy
Abstract Due to energy and environmental concerns, producing fuels from renewable
energy sources has seen advancements, especially through collecting biofuels
produced from microbes. Many of the biofuels produced from microbes are done so
by different pathways in order to generate fatty acid branched chain esters (FABCEs)
and branched fatty acid branched chain esters (BFABCEs), which are promising
isopentenols. These can be produced via multiple pathways, the leucine and valine
pathway as well as the fatty acid pathway. Another and main source pathway
producing biofuels, which produces isopentyl diphosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl
dipho sphate (DMAPP), are the 2 methyl (D) erythritol 4 phosphate (MEP) and
mevalonate dependent (MVA)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is proof that it is crucial to begin to create biofuels that have a lesser negative
impact that can sustain the energy demands that we have today. Currently, as seen
in the table, microbes have been proven to produce ethanol, biodiesel and
hydrogen, which are all sources that can be used for producing renewable fuels.
One of the various types of ethanol produced are C5 alcohols also referred to as
isopentenols and other 5 branched carbon alcohols. As Connor and Liao suggest
Higher chain alcohols (C3 C5) contain a high energy density, and are compatible
with the current infrastructure as they are less hygroscopic. These alcohols (iso
propanol, 1 propanol, 1 butanol, isobutanol, 3 methyl 1 butanol, 2 methyl 1 butanol,
isopentenol) can be blended with gasoline and also have potential to be used as
replacements, as 1 butanol has already been shown to perform well in conventional
gasoline engines (Connor; Liao, 2009). There is some controversy about how
current biofuels are not efficient at low temperature; however, FABCEs and
BFABCEs have low freezing points, which can allow for the biofuel to have greater
performance (Tao et. al, 2015). As previously mentioned, isopentenols have
properties, which mirror those of octane and

Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen sixties and seventies,
soon after the creation of the Crips. Raised in poverty without a father, and a full
family raised solely by his mother, Kody Scott led the stereotypical ghetto life, a
poor and broken home. However he does not blame this on his own personal decision
to join the Crips while only eleven year s old. The allure of the respect and glory that
bangers got, along with the unity of the set (name for the specific gang) is what drew
him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the set for life, and claimed that
banging was his life. After many years of still believing this, he eventually realized

whole along with his newfound responsibility to his family(wife and kids), was
more important than the set , and that he would now leave the set and the gang
life. However this was no easy task, as most who attempt to leave the set don t
succeed or die trying. It took him a whole three years to leave the Crips. He now,
however, unlike before, realized that a banging was wrong for more than just the
black on black crime and such, but that it was a matter of morals and family, and
he now no longer took pride in his past actions, but still took responsibility for
them(page 357). Once out of prison again, he was now out of the set and could
start a more normal life with his family and with a real paying job. He was still

stopping the causes of gangsterism(page 377).
This complete turnaround in his life and new devotion, is the purpose of the book
he wrote. At the start of the book he tells of how he joined the gang and why. He
also tells of all of his glory stories and how much he enjoyed banging. However as
the book slowly progresses, he starts to mature and to develop mentally. Until toward

Even though the river was not the exact location of where the murders took place,
the people were still able to get clues on where the crimes may have happened.
Also, by dumping the bodies in the river this trait let the detectives come to the
conclusion that the unsub was an organized killer. This means that he was smart
enough to know that the river would erase many traces of evidence that would
make it harder for the FBI to solve the case. A third scientific technique used in
Silence of the Lambs was identifying the killer s trophy. Some murderers keep a
souvenir from their victim that reminds them of their crime. After looking at the
victims, Clarice discovered that Buffalo Bill s trophy was keeping the skin of the
women that he murdered. Later in the movie, Clarice visited one of the homes of a
missing victim. While studying her room looking for clues, Clarice comes to the
conclusion that Buffalo Bill was skinning the women to make a bodysuit. Not only
did seeing the moths in the killer s home draw a red flag, but seeing the sewing kit
also gave a hint the she had found Buffalo Bill. A chemical used in the film that is

20. Causes And Effects Of Hurricane Katrina
Natural disasters seem to be occurring more frequently and are causing
groundbreaking amounts damage worldwide, the worst natural disaster in history
remains a huge 1931 flood in China that killed over three million people. Three
million people from a storm. Another natural disaster that happened in a modern
world was hurricane Katrina. Endless lessons can be learnt from this disaster
especially when you have technological tools to prepare your citizens. (Barton, 2008.
p123). On August 29, 2005 when hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United
States, nearly every trained meteorologist, public official in the country had
underestimated its absolute power. In a wired, fully modern American city over,1800
hundreds of people died in this catastrophe. The total financial cost of Katrina, from
repair construction damage to homes, businesses, to financing both rental housing for
victims and infrastructure repairs, reached 150 billion dollars. The human cost was
much greater. (Barton, 2008.p 124). On the evening of August 27, 2005, New
Orleans mayor Ray Naginspoke with Mayfield, the director of the National
Hurricane Center. Mayfield suggested to evacuate the city. Nagin was concerned
about if he would order the public to evacuate and Katrina would move offshore, the
city could be sued by businesses for any unnecessary loss of commerce they might
experience. Additionally, by this fear and his concern was that New Orleans tourism
industry would reduce as a result of false

22. Teen Pregnancy And Teenage Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is something that affects over one million young teens in the United
States. For some, these pregnancies are planned but 85% of these teens the
pregnancy is unplanned. This can cause a lot of endless problems in the life of the
teen and the newborn child. There are a lot of things that can cause an unplanned teen
pregnancy, such as teens experimenting with sexual encounters at a young age.
Another major cause is the lack of guidance due to guardians that are blind or do not
want to believe in such activities. These causes can have devastating effects on the
teen and the newborn in the household. Some effects of early pregnancy will include
an unexpected rise of responsibility for the teen and can cause many health concerns
for both teen and newborn child.
Teens experimenting are the leading cause in the unplanned pregnancies. As a
teenager in high school ages there are a lot of peer pressures. Such as experimenting
with alcohol and unprotected sexual intercourse. Drinking and the use of narcotics
also largely have an impact on the judgment of the teen before the pre pregnancy
comes about. Experimenting can cause many effects on the teen and the relationships
at hand, including the relationships with the baby s mom or dad and also the parents
of the teens. Another way of experimenting is the pregnancy caused in the sequel of
either a long time dating of the boyfriend or the other case of those random one night
stands or hook ups. Experimenting can be well
23. Electrophoresis Lab Report
The results of our experiment were similar to the actual isoelectric point of BSA
with the exception of one data record. The calculated pI for BSA was
approximately 4.5 after experimentation in comparison to 4.7, the real pI value of
BSA. The isoelectric point was calculated after graphing the averages of each
buffer solution and taking the x intercept of the data. The isoelectric point detailed
the pH at which the substance had a net charge of zero. The second strip of pH 6.0
with a value of +5mm, was omitted from calculations to improve the accuracy and
precision of data. Buffers with a pH greater than the isoelectric move towards the
negative end. Most of the buffer solutions with a pH of 4.7 and greater from the data,

What is electrophoretic mobility? Describe two ways in which the mobility of a
molecule is affected during electrophoresis. Electrophoretic mobility is the ability
of substance to migrate during a period of time which is proportional to speed. The
speed and distance a molecule or substance moves in result of the electric field that
electrophoresis applies, can indicate the size and charge of the molecule. Bigger
molecules will move slower than small and greater net charges will move faster to
the opposite charge. 3. For this experiment, your sample was applied to a cellulose
acetate strip and the migration in an electric field was measured at various pH
values. There are other methods that can be used during an electrophoresis
experiment. Discuss one alternative electrophoresis method and compare and
contrast it to the method used in lab this week. In slab gel electrophoresis agarose
or polyacrylamide is used. The conducting buffer is contained in the porous gel
and the gel is then poured in between glass plates. These plates are separated by
spacers. An electric field is applied at the rear after the substance of
experimentation is added to the wells at the top. The substance will then move a
certain distance towards the positive electrode. This method uses gel unlike the
cellulose acetate strips but it still uses a buffer and a electric field to migrate the
substances based on their size and charge. Slab gel electrophoresis is usually used in
the biological
24. Chad Research Paper
Chad is made up of over 140 different ethnic groups, whose diets are as diverse as
their cultural traditions. The Arabs of northern Chad who are nomadic or live in the
capital of N Djamena eat staples of dairy and meat, while groups in the agricultural
south have a plant based diet. However, there are certain national dishes that all
Chadians share.
Grains
A thick grain porridge called boule is a common dish throughout Chad. The grain
used in the north is generally maize; in the south, millet is the primary grain
consumed. Boule can also be made of peanuts, cassava or sorghum, depending on
which crop is grown locally. The porridge is rolled into a ball and served with any
number of different sauces, made of dried fish, meat or vegetables. Crops such as
potatoes, rice and sesame are more common in the agricultural south. A sweetened
peanut and millet porridge flavored with lemon is known as bouillie. A typical

They are often dried, and Chadians cook them into numerous different sauces to
flavor their food. Garlic, okra and dried pimento are other flavorings found in nearly
ever dish. Dates, guava and mangoes also grow in various parts of Chad.
Meat
Goats are the most commonly raised animals in Chad; their meat is frequently
eaten and incorporated into meals. When beef is used, it is chopped and made into
a tomato sauce dish called nashif. For special occasions, Southern Chadians prepare
tan oul (long sauce) out of meat, dried fish or beans. Due to their cost, meat and fish
are often dried; they re preserved for later use, especially in the south.
Dairy and other Protein
Milk from cows and goats forms a staple of the diet of the nomads of Northern Chad.
Clarified butters and yogurts are sweetened and spiced with cardamom; they come in
all varieties. Southern Chadians consume very little dairy. They supplement their
protein with peanuts and dried fish.

26. John Couey
Laws are made to keep a society at peace among the people. They can protect people
from each other, while maintaining a functioning and productive society. However
some crime victims may have laws named after them. These laws typically address
legal ineffectiveness, which could have helped to find and punish the criminal in that
case. Laws that have been named in honor of a crime victim, aim to protect future
potential victims and lessen the chances of recurrences of previous cases.
Nine year old Jessica Lunsford was abducted, raped and killed in Florida on February

The more research I found on this law, I honestly just do not know if this law is
detailed enough. For example, Jessica s law stated that a sex offender must reside
2,000 feet from a school or park where children converge. I am slightly irritated by
section of the law because honestly who will be watching this person to make sure
they do not pass the 2,000 foot mark. I feel if a sex offender really wants to than
they will do it under any circumstances. I am just curious to how this will stop them
if they do. As of right now there is no set penalty for violating the 2,000 foot rule.
Another concern I have is how is a person going to be electronically monitor as sex
offender for their lifetime. I am not sure how the criminal justice will make for this
arrangement. The law does not define how to measure 2,000 feet, child gatherings
and monitoring offenders when they are off
27. The Media Production Program At Ryerson University
Polaroid photographs can be thought of as tangible moments in time. They give off
vibes of nostalgia and whimsy. These feelings lead me to incorporate Polaroid s in
my personal media artifact. And since I am in the Media Production program at
Ryerson University, I found it appropriate to apply what I learned digitally in
Photoshop to represent myself in an assemblage of hanging Polaroid s.
Corkboards are commonly used for reminders, organizing and possibly posting
things we like on them. These elements often come into play when I try to start a
project. I often need to plan in advance but even when I try to stay organized, I am
scattered much like the board. The texts are what I used to be inspired when I am
creating something of my own. And like many aspects in life, the Polaroid s and
board have imperfections, but it is these imperfections build character. When hung
together they form a tapestry that tells a story of my life. I will now explain part of
that story by analyzing three of these texts from my collage by applying key concepts
commonly studied in popular culture.
Habitus, described by sociologist Pierre Bourdieu is the manifestation of culture
through developed habits and predispositions. Habitus can be thought of as the
procedural memory one develops when one improves in a sport by practicing it for
many years (as cited in Cultural Capital, 2016). This metaphor fits perfectly for
something I love to watch and play: hockey.

28. Importance Of Faith In Doctor Faustus
Mankind has always struggled with faith, and it always will. The human mind is not
easily persuaded to blindly believe, and the concept of God or gods, since their
conception, has always relied upon belief. The importance of faith in relation to one s
God was extremely relevant when Christopher Marlowe composed Doctor Faustus in
the 16th century, for the waning influence of the Catholic Church and the general
dispersion of religionhad caused a drop in religious fidelity. In his tragedy Doctor
Faustus , Marlowe shows the main character denying opportunities to repent not
because of ignorance, but because of an inability to fully trust in a benevolent
divinity, even in a circumstance where man does not question the existence of heaven
or hell. Faustus inability to trust Godstems from his connection with evil, and
Marlowe uses Doctor Faustus thirst for knowledge and power as the primary reason
for his gravitation towards and consequent trust of Satan. In the beginning of the the
story, Dr. Faustus seeks to become all powerful and all knowledgeable, rivaling the
omnipotence of God. To achieve such a world of profit and delight/Of power, of
honor and omnipotence, (1.52 53) Faustus indulges himself in the realm of dark arts,
studying metaphysics of magicians/And necromantic books that promise to enlighten
him with extraordinary capabilities. It is the darkness ability to answer Faustus
desires in the now that gains his trust, for Faustus is not interested in serving a God
that seemingly does nothing for him. This is further illustrated when Faustus
proclaims, To God? He loves thee not/The God thou serv st is thine own appetite
(5.11 12).The instant gratification of evil better resonates with Faustus, and because
he never sees God appease him in the way that darkness has, he trusts Satan more than
God. Marlowe has Doctor Faustus matriculate towards Satan in the novel s beginning
because of the perks of evil, and he never turns back. Faustus witnesses a supernatural
event that seems to oppose his binding deal with Satan, and although it does make
him question his actions and think about repenting, he ignores the event and
continues to abandon his salvation. After deciding to pledge his soul to

30. The Houyhnhnms in Gulliver s Travels Essay
The Houyhnhnms in Gulliver s Travels In the last part of the novel Gulliver s
Travels, by Jonathan Swift, a dichotomy is established which crtiticizes two extreme
ideas of man. The Houynhnms, a race of horses, are meant to symbolize man as a
supremely rational being and the Yahoos, a primitive, vulgar version of humans, are
made to symbolize man as an animal. The narrator Gulliver is a sort of reference
point between the two, since in physical appearance he seems to be a Yahoo, but his
ability to reason enables him to relate well to the Houynhnms. Readers have
interrpreted the rational horses in a number of different ways. Some feel that the
Houynhnms are the ideal to which humans should strive to attain. Others feel that the

Ben Haggerty, more familiarly known by his stage name Macklemore, frequently
addresses today s issues in his music. With his Billboard hit Same Love, he strived
to make marriage equality more understandable to the mainstream audiences. In his
most recent track, White Privilege II, he talks about his involvement in the Black
Lives Matter movement and the perspectives of others concerning it. Last summer,
shortly after his child s birth, Haggerty released one of the most personal and
heartfelt songs he s created to which he dedicated to his newborn daughter, Sloan.
Growing Up is an honest open letter addressing the fear of becoming a new father,
experiential advice for his new child, and the demanding pressure of his career.
They say boys don t cry / But your dad has shed a lot of tears / They say I should be a
strong man / But baby, I m still filled with fear. Starting with the opening lines in the
first verse, Haggerty takes a stance on gender roles and stereotypes, while also
indirectly mentioning his struggles with addiction. He isn t afraid of what other
people are going to think about him, and he is going to raise his daughter to believe
in that same idea. Sometimes I don t know who I am / Sometimes I question why I m
here / I just wanna be a good dad / Will I be? I have no idea. Haggerty may be
questioning the spiritual aspects of his life, and trying to find his life s purpose. He
also doesn t want his struggles or addictions to get in the way of being there

Bombardier is a family owned public corporation specializing in many different forms
of transportation equipment. The company was founded in January 1942 by the late
Joseph Armand Bombardier. It is headquartered in Montreal, Canada.
How is the corporation s ownership structured?
The corporate structure of Bombardier is quite similar to other family owned public
corporations. It is primarily controlled by the Bombardier family through several
holding companies. Bombardier has two classes of common shares.
Class B shares hold the right for one vote per share. There are 1,906,222,883
currently issued and outstanding Class B shares (Share Information, 2015). The
current trading price for these Class B shares is $1.24 (Share Price, 2015). The ...

This amount of Class A shares is significant against the total number of outstanding
Class A shares. Given that each Class A share holds the right to ten votes, the
Bombardier family has superior control over the corporation. The Bombardier family
s ownership of Class A shares amounts to 79.29% of all issued and outstanding Class
A shares (Management Proxy Circular, 2015). The current fair value for the family s
Class A shares is $336,419,879.
The ownership structure for Bombardier not only gives the Bombardier family
majority ownership of shares, but also superior voting power. Given that Class A
shares have ten votes each and Class B shares have one vote each, the Bombardier
family is deemed to control 54.35% of all the voting rights of both classes of
common shares. This gives the Bombardier family ownership and control over the
whole corporation. The non controlling shareholders have insignificant voting power
over the Bombardier family which may make it unfavourable to invest in the
company.
What Type II agency problems might result from such an ownership structure?
Type II agency problems are prevalent in family owned public corporations because
the controlling shareholders (the family) may prioritize their personal interests over
the interests of the corporation as a whole.
The first type II agency problem is controlling minority shareholders. This problem is
a result of the major shareholder using its
33. Analysis Of The Scarlet Ibis
I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two
vines, life and death . The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it
was written by the author, James Hurst. The story is about a young boy (that goes by
Brother in this story) who receives a younger brother by the name of William
Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger brother.
It is believed that the young boyhad a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known
as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is
significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to
his condition, the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that
the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided
to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make
Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story,
Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s
death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by
the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death.
Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is
one of the most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their
own opinion about what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant
things within the story that would clue to the fact that something else was
responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are
responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that
the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be
found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that
points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For
example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that
Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know
that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of
having a crippled brother. This shows

Essay
Conceiving a baby can be easy for some couples and difficult for others. In fact,
some couples can do so naturally and others may need some professional help or
even to the point where adoption is the only possibility available. When given the
option of professional help, we need to look at the big picture and think about the
moral, immoral and ethical part of this delicate subject. However, while it may be
difficult for some couples to conceive a baby, there are many methods that can
possibly work and that s when ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology
) becomes a
great part of it. As far as the moral and ethical part, some people would disagree to
this new technology such as IVF (in vitro fertilization), surrogacy, egg transfer,...

Sarah is willing to do whatever it takes to become a mother. She believes that as
long as she is happy and her husband is supporting her idea; the way of conception
will not matter. The option of surrogacy conflicts with the Kantian theory in
reference to treating the surrogate mother as merely a means to an end versus an
end in itself. For example, the motive Sarah has is to use the surrogate mother to
carry her child for nine months so that Sarah and Jim may get what they want,
which is a biological child. This being said, the surrogate mother is only viewed as
a tool to Sarah and Jim and not necessarily as a sentient being. On the other hand,
her husband is not willing to support her decision. In fact, he makes his decision
based on Contractarianism s theory. He believes that as long as they are both
cooperating with each other and putting their maximum effort conceiving a child will
be accomplished. Jim s idea of conceiving a child is by using the method of
superovulation therapy. He believes that sometimes infertility can be treated with a
superovulation therapy, instead of having a surrogate bearing his child. In this case,
Sarah will be treated with medications to increase the amount of eggs she ovulates
every month. From there on, intrauterine insemination is performed. Given the
couple s different points of view, the topic becomes a little controversial. For instance,
Sarah wants a surrogate to carry the child for nine months; while Jim wants

Silver is a very interesting element to watch react. Our guiding question in this lab
What is the percent yield between the reaction silver nitrate and copper? . There

the copper and shutting off. Also we noticed at the top of the liquid a bluish
36. Coal Seam Gas Exploration And Development
ISSUE:
Coal seam gas exploration and development is rapidly increasing within Australia
(Woodman and Silver, 2013). This increase has sparked significant concern within the
community about the potential environmental, social and economic impacts that
could result, which could possibly put a standstill to CSG mining, costing the state
millions of dollars in revenue (Jaques and Galloway, 2012).
BACKGROUND
Coal seam gas or CSG is a naturally occurring found in coal seam deposits.
Australia has a large amount of CSG mainly found in large coal basins in
Queensland and New South Wales. In the last few years there has been a major spike
in the amount of gas exploration licenses and mining grants, this is predominantly
due to the need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All application for CSG mining approvals must be approved by the state, within New
South Wales this is the responsibility of the department of primary industries
(Camden Council, 2013). Once the approval stage is complete CSG companies are
operations and construction are regulated through such legislation Petroleum
(Onshore) Act 1991 and such key bodies including the Environment Protection
Authority, the Department of Planning and Environment and the NSW Office of
Water (Cotton Australia, 2012).
Despite the governments and industries best efforts to respond to this increase with
legislation and codes of best practice to minimise technical failures and to protect the
environment and communities there is however, no current national leading
legislation to regulate the industry activities or practices (SCER 2013).
STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS AND CURRENT SITUATION:
State Government s minister for mining wants to find away to achieve the best
economic growth, whilst addressing greenhouse gas emission and maintaining the
industry s viability. The state government recognizes how important CSG mining is
to the future of the state s energy supply, with more than 1.1 million customers in
New South Wales depending on gas to supply their homes with energy (Department
of Industry, Resources Energy, n.d). However, New South Wales current operation in
Camden only supplies the state with 5% of its energy requirements (Department of

going to have his friend Luchesi taste it. Fortunato isn t exactly a fan of Luchesi.

39. Speech On The Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech is the right to communicate one s opinions and ideas. The term
freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of
seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used.
Governments restrict speech with varying limitations. Common limitations on speech
relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, hate speech, incitement,
fighting words, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, non
disclosure agreements, right to privacy, right to be forgotten, public security, public
order, public nuisance, campaign finance reform and oppression. Whether these
limitations can be justified under the harm principle depends upon whether
influencing a third party s opinions or actions adversely to the second party
constitutes such harm or not. Governmental and other compulsory organizations
often have policies restricting the freedom of speech, for example, speech codes at
state schools. The term offense principle is also used to expand the range of free
speech limitations to prohibit forms of expression where they are considered
offensive to society, special interest groups or individuals. For example, freedom of
speech is limited in many jurisdictions to widely differing degrees by religious legal
systems, religious offense or incitement to ethnic or racial hatred laws. The right to
freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under article 19 of the
Universal Declaration
40. A Presentation Of Waffle Frolic
On Friday, April 15, our group made a presentation about Waffle Frolic, a local
restaurant that specializes in breakfast and brunch. In the presentation, we used direct
method 2 to recognize the problem, identify the cause, find the solution, and analyzed
cost and benefit.
Overall, we will give our self a score of 9 because all members of our team had a
strong and professional tone throughout our presentation without the use of fillers
and incorporating subtle transition points. Furthermore, we had a credible, clear, and
varied content base backed up by evidence and visual support. However, there are
many areas that we all need to work on including finishing the respective phrase
before answering a question and coordinating our stance and posture.
We believe that our overall presentation style and tone were appropriate given our
content and context. First, the attire of our team members was consistent,
professional, and matches the color theme of our PowerPoint slides. This created a
positive and credible first impression for the audience. Second, throughout the whole
presentation, we maintained a professional and transparent presentation style. Even
when being interrupted and answering questions, we didn t slack off and still
managed to remain professional. We were open and receptive to the audience at all
times.
Third, we incorporated what we learned from the Management Communication
textbook into our presentation. We included a preview to give the audience a quick
41. Servant Leadership And The Board Of Directors
Servant Leadership the Board of Directors
Introduction
What is the proper relationship between a servant leader within an organization and
the board of directors that provides organizational oversight and direction for the
organization? What does the literature reflect about this particular dynamic, and how
do power and politics of an organization function vis Г vis servant leadership? These
issues will be discussed in this paper.
Servant Leader and the Board of Directors
The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help
others (Albert Schweitzer) (Keith, 2010).
Dr. Kent M. Keith was a presenter on behalf of the Greenleaf Seminar on Servant
Leadership at the 53rd annual conference for the Arizona School Boards Association
in December, 2010. He correctly pointed out that servant leadership is about serving
others, about becoming distinguished through the altruistic desire to serve, and about
the ...universal recognition of the importance of serving others (Keith, 2010).
Servant leadership is not about acquiring or wielding power but rather it is about
leading which can help an organization become a powerful servant to others in the
sense of its mission and goals. The board members in any organization are
accountable, Keith explained in his presentation. He quoted Robert Greenleaf:
Trustees [board members] are accountable to all parties of interest for the best
possible performance of the institution in the service of the needs

Valley Forge The Continental Army, led by George Washington, spent the winter of
1777 1778 at Valley Forge. This was 20 miles outside of Philadelphia, where the
British had taken control of earlier that year. The conditions were terrible at Valley
Forge, the weather was freezing and many soldiers didn t have many clothes, but they
had to stay close enough to Philadelphia to keep an eye on the British (Washington
leads). Although the weather was extremely cold and they had almost nothing for
clothes, good did come out spending the winter at valley forge and denying the
command of attacking mid winter. Washington got a chance to train his army, many

and the British. He also talks about how all the soldiers had almost no clothes
throughout the winter and how most of the men died from the terrible conditions.

Part of this is related to the restrictive bilateral agreements, which also protect the
home market.
Some states have privatized their airlines and others intend to do so, a considerable
number remain state owned. As Forsyth observes, there is a strong correlation
between per capita income levels and private ownership. In the richer countries in
the region, such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, along with the
colony of Hong Kong, all the airlines are privately owned. By contrast, there are few
examples of private ownership of airlines in the poorer countries , while a number of
governments have allowed the introduction of private airlines (e.g. Asiana in Korea,
Dragonair in Hong Kong) to compete on international routes.

Him Now...
Sue was so excited about adopting a puppy from her local shelter! She received her
husband s blessing so long as the breed was small. Robert didn t want a dog that
required a lot of money, work, food, and space. Was he surprised by his wife s
decision!
Sue was charmed by an adorable black and white pup weighing just under 2 lbs. She
knew the dog was destined for greatness, being a Boston Great Dane. However,
she hid the truth of the dog s pedigree, telling her husband he was a Jack Russell
terrier. Instead of growing to an adult weight of 15 lbs, Bear would ultimately tip the
scale at 210. Nine years later, Bear is now one of Britain s biggest dogs.

Wilkinson wanted to satisfy customers with their needs met by the Wilkinson range
of products. A marketing campaign was launched which focused on a range of
promotional tactics, designed to appeal to university students. Wilkinson attended
fresher s fairs and gave out free goody bags with sample products directly to
