Southern Cone History
Throughout the United States of America the Southern Cone and its history may be an unknown.
However, two countries located in Latin America s Southern Cone have important histories that are
relevant to the America. Argentina and Paraguay are major nations of the southern cone that
participated in an undercover operation called Operation Condor which connects many countries of
the Southern Cone. Argentina is the biggest country of the southern cone and has a unique history
with penguins. The Magellanic penguins call Argentina home. These penguins have an interesting
take on the relationship between the mother and father during a mother penguin s pregnancy. After
laying the eggs the father goes and eats for forty days while the mother sits... Show more content on

Paraguayans do not have many historical happy times in their past. Their history leading up to
Operation Condor involves three men that led the country to a government based on military
dictatorships. After Jose Francia and Carlos Lopez, two of the first leaders of Paraguay after
winning independence from Spain, Francisco Lopez is in power in 1862 (Resnick). Lopez was
interested in not being a country of isolation and forced everyone to be part of the military
unless one was a priest or could pay the price to not be in the military. While he signs a treaty
with Uruguay a war is about to begin over who is in power in Uruguay. Lopez runs into trouble
with bringing Paraguay into the War of the Triple Alliance. Paraguay falls on the wrong side having
to fight against Brazil, Argentina, and the Colorado Party of Uruguay (Resnick). Paraguayans are
forced with two options that both end in death: not fight and be executed by Lopez or go to war
and be killed by Brazilians, Argentinians, or Uruguayans. Paraguay eventually has to even send
their children to fight due to the loss of many people. After Paraguay loses the war, Brazil takes
the country over. The next known leader that Paraguay has after Brazil leaves is Alfredo
Stroessner. This man starts the process of Operation Condor in 1975 (Resnick). Stroessner
becomes leader of Paraguay in 1954 due to his planned military coup taking over the nation. He was
the Commander in Chief of the military in Paraguay controlling all parts of the military. Stroessner
put conditions in place like Argentina with additions including secret police, censorship, prison
camps, torture, no freedom of speech, banning unions, curfew, dissolving Congress, and suspending
the Constitution. His reason for the military coup and the new conditions put in place in Paraguay
was due to the fear of

Hotel and Tourism Management
The author would like to carry out the primary research of this study at the Hotel and Tourism
Management Institute, Switzerland which is a well renowned institute and is one of the leading
hotel management schools in the country. It is also known for its high quality and globally
recognized masters, degree and diploma courses. HTMi caters to over 200 students every year,
providing them with world class education while encompassing a strong family environment
amongst students from varied walks of life.
O Mahony et al., (2001) and Purcell and Quinn, (1996) state that students that enlist in hospitality
degree programs are mostly inspired by the anticipation of vocational and career outcomes.
Connolly, P. and McGing, G. (2006) mentions that designing significant educational programs for
the hospitality industry is not a simple and easy task, as there are continually unresolved debates
between scholars and practitioners about the suitable balance between academics and profession.
Hospitality management vocational degree programs aim at satisfying a common need in the
industry for skilled future employees and hence, it is required by educational institutions to ensure
the academic curriculum not only meets educational epecations but also student and industry
expectations (O Mahony, et al. 2001). Raybould, M. and Wilkins, H. (2005) examine that the
educators in the hospitality industry have for a while now, recognized the significance of matching
the program outcomes with needs

Bring Back Flogging
Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm
otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this
essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast
between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging
should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of
violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial
mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and
branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks
of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more
enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages
, he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists
a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern
day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one
punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than
we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that
the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The
question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and
development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is
paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with
the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. Thus the

During this period, there is the transfer of the capital from the Heijo Kyo to Heian Kyo.
According to figal sensei.org/hist157/textbook, The Heian court was actually headed by an
emperor claimed sovereignty over most territory of Japanese islands . It was also stated in the
same source that members of the High Court Nobility were recruited among Junior and imperial
family . This tells us that the members of the prestigious clan in the period should have a
powerful and strong family background which Genji did not have. Also it is stated in the same
source that holders of the aristocratic ranks enjoyed special legal and economic privileges. It shows
us how the great power that these Aristocrats have during this Period which is evident in the tale of
Genji. In the Heian society, people are very much interested of their own ease and leisure and the
emperor is the center of everything. They are very into arts and are very obsessed in rank and
breeding. This shows in the tale the obsession of Lady Kokiden for his son to be the next in line
to become the emperor, her fear of Genji as a threat for his sons expected and wanted

The Four Noble Truths Of The Dukkha
Growing up in what some may consider the good life , the Gotama (Buddha) was raised in a
kingdom with every luxury available to him. His life was well set considering he was a prince
and heir to the kingdom. When suddenly one day he was struck with the harsh realities of life,
interpreting them as sufferings. As a result of these sufferings being brought to his attention, he left
his kingdom in order to find a way to end he suffering. Gotama traveled searching for many years
exploring religions and possible solutions to end universal suffering. Finally he developed his own
practice and way of life that he felt was the solution. Gotama was now considered enlightened
therefor becoming the Buddha. The foundations of Buddhismwhere created to be simple and is how
the Buddha explains the process in which one must understand in order to understand suffering
itself. These sermons are known as the four noble truths. The Dukkhais the first sermon also known
as suffering. In order to understand the meaning of the first Dukkha and how it arises, one must
also understand and follow the second, third, and forth, noble truths which contribute to the solution
of the Dukkha. Most importantly, one must understand the Five Aggregates that make up the
Dukkha, which according to Buddha also represent the being . Once one can understand this multi
level system they can start to apply the Buddhist solution.
The first noble truth describes all things that are considered in order to

Escaping Salem; The Other Witch hunt of 1692 was penned and published by Richard Godbeer in
2005. Godbeer expressed his views on what he called basic witch trials in Salem and more
importantly, in Stamford, Connecticut Massachusetts. The same year that Salem witch hunt and
trials began in 1692, another witch hunt took place in Stamford, the Western Connecticut to when a
woman (Elizabeth Clawson) from there was also accused of Witchcraft. These witch hunt and trials
took place in colonial Massachusetts during the period 1692 93, whereby, almost 200 victims or

Two of whom were she mentioned as witches were then put to trial for witchcraft. Questions
about whether Kate s screaming and mostly pain were due to natural or unnatural causes arose.
If she were bewitched, how can people believe her story when the mere fact is that her
information came from the devil? These questions still remain as Godbeer reveals through
narrative how the judges and the trial were such a legal covert. It was decided that all witches
must have posed a tremendous danger to the Salem community and the Stamford, Connecticut that
as proving such an invisible matter was almost impossible since they relied on the Devils Magic
(Godbeer 89 109) to account for another. The fact that the court used Kate Branch to determine
other witches through the same method, the witchcraft; others were convicted from, showed how
the courts in Connecticut were controversial and embroil in it on their use of doubtful evidence.
Kate s credibility was questioned by many and this showed that it was almost certain the screams
from Kate Brunch were mere natural and had nothing to do with the supposedly mentioned
witches who were bewitched her. Using the Devil s Magic (Godbeer 109 104) others were
convicted for, it can be also concluded that whatever information she had given could not have
been trusted by the judges since her information came from the same source other witches are
accused and convicted for. The author gives his view on this case Kate Branch as he

Natural Selection
Part B.
Over the millions of years organisms have been present on earth, there has been many forms of
evidence to suggest animals are evolving through natural selection. However, the question still
remains as to whether homo sapiens are still evolving through natural selection. Through the nature
of science being subject to change and many new discoveries being made each day, it is difficult to
make clear confined theories and conclusions, which will not be impacted on in the future.

The main idea which discredits and contradicts evolution involves the idea that evolution proceeds
by random chance. However in Australia and among homo sapiens the only evidence to support the
idea that evolution is occurring are as a result of an organism evolving in order to adapt to the
changing environmental conditions of Australia.
Slide 23:
In conclusion, there are many different forms of evidence to support the idea of evolution by
natural selection among homo sapiens in Australia. With reference to the scientific theories and
information present today, it becomes obvious that homo sapiens in Australia are still evolving and
will continue to over time in order to cope with and adapt to environmental changes.
In the words of Sir Charles Darwin, It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most
intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District
The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status
and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and
Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a
real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to
open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak
demand. According to Russell and Taylor (2014), the size and complexity of the problem makes
the decision making often difficult. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource
should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome
the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. SCADA does allow
automation and the data collected from SCADA helps aeration optimization for scheduling which
will ultimately reflect any capacity limitations. The new high energy turbo blowers save 30%
energy to mix and aerate the tanks (Poole, Neighbors, Green, Baert, Sosnowski, and Wold, 2012)
and the control flow provides additional saving with no additional capital cost. The real time
monitoring and the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) measuring in the aeration tanks allows a development
of a new plant control strategies to optimize the system performance thus consuming less power.

The Short And Medium Term Needs For Emergency Shelter
Intro
Contemporary designers and architects are addressing the short and medium term needs of people
who require emergency and refugee shelters, by evaluating the requirements of people once they
have been displaced from their home due to a natural disaster, or any other adversity that they may
face. This article will compare and contrast different types of emergency shelters, both short and
long term, and appraise the key considerations that contemporary designers and architects must
make while creating these refuges.
Addressing short and medium term needs for emergency shelter
A short term emergency shelter is usually something that people call transitional
accommodation. The short term needs for an emergency shelter consist of: A place to sleep, a
roof over their head, showers, cleans drinking water and food. Designer s need to come up with
a way that they can gain access to clean water and safe food in the midst of a natural disaster,
and how they will get it to them as quickly as possible, whilst making sure there is enough room
in the housing estate to look after everyone whose been evicted from their home, or their home
has been damaged and ruined in one way or another. Medium and long term needs in emergency
shelters change a little bit, with them still needing all the basics, but also then having things
readily available like doctors, medication, physiatrists, and educational tools like a local school, or
books for the children to read in there spare time. They

Primitive Methodist Society Chapter 14
This chapter begins in the year that five working class MPs closely associated with the Primitive
Methodist Connexion entered the House of Commons. It ends prior to the South African War: a test
of Primitive Methodism s commitment to peace.
It will demonstrate that the Church and its members engaged increasingly in political activity,
primarily through a commitment to the Liberal Party. Their support for trade unions and the
prominence they gave to the Land Question was notable, a reflection of the interests of their core
membership: commonly miners and agricultural labourers residing in industrial villages and the
countryside. Their allegiance to the Liberal Party began to fracture during the Home Rule debate
and consequential to some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The miners had refused to accept significant wage reductions and the owners had locked them
out. The newspaper described the lockout as The Coal War and the dispute dominated its pages
for several months. Letters from Primitive Methodist ministers described the dire straits of those
affected by the dispute and asked for donations of clothes and money to assist those on strike.
Huge numbers of Primitive donors responded. However, in addition to alleviating distress, at least
one minister took an active part in demonstrations in favour of the miners, marching under his
chapel banner. Another chaired meetings in support of the miners and expressed his indignation at
the conduct of the Masters Federation . Although one anonymous correspondent to Primitive
Methodist, while supporting the justice of the miners case, blamed them for not accepting
arbitration, the editorials and all other correspondence were firmly behind the miners. One
editorial blamed the coalowners for seeking such a large reduction in wages, describing their
actions as positive greed and a wrong headed policy on their part . He continued by affirming the
Connexion s sympathy with the miners, and with other classes of toilers in this country . The
miners deserved to be well paid . The Government eventually interceded to end the dispute; an
intervention warmly welcomed by the paper, which hoped for the creation of Boards of
Conciliation on which both employers and employees would be equally

Gender Roles In Middlemarch
The Portrayal of the Relationship between the Sexes in George Eliot s Middlemarch
George Eliot s epic Victorian novel Middlemarch is a fascinating study into the lives, characters
and connections of the residents of a fictional provincial midlands town. It deals with the
constraints of everyday life, the struggles both external and internal experienced by the very
realistically drawn characters and how they act and react to them. It is set during the period of the
early 1830 s, a critical juncture historically when Britain was on the cusp of change politically,
industrially, technologically and economically. Middlemarchcandidly portrays the evolving stark
contrasts between the male and female protagonists in the novel and the particular roles ... Show

While her female characters are mainly strong women they all display a large level of
compliance to the will of their menfolk. Women in the nineteenth century were financially,
intellectually and emotionally dependent upon their male kin (Gleadle, 2001, 51). They were
expected to provide unstinting support for the head of the house, i.e. the man. Women did not
have a formal role in Victorian society and were legally subject to their husbands in all things but
Eliot in Middlemarch manages to imbue her female protagonists with a sense of stoicism that
renders them a force to be reckoned with, especially if their marriages are under any threat.
Robert McCrum in The Guardian described it thus Middlemarch looms above the mid Victorian
literary landscape like a cathedral of words in whose vastness its readers can find every kind of

Grendel Analysis
The ability to live alone is a power very few people possess. Grendel, by John Gardner, is a novel
based on the epic poem, Beowulf and narrated by Grendel, a grotesque monster who lives with
his mute mother in a desolate cave. He is in a 12 year war King Hrothgar and his people.
Constantly seeking and yet avoiding the human population, Grendel observes the Scyldings as their
civilization progresses with increasing curiosity. Grendel spends his days isolated from society,
searching for a purpose to his life in what to him seems like a meaningless universe. On his journey
he encounters a clairvoyant dragon who mentors him on the nature of the universe, and sees the rise
and fall of different empires. Seeing humanities cruelty and senseless violence frustrates him. His
hatred ultimately leads to his downfall as he meets Beowulfand is killed. In the novel Grendel, by
John Gardner, Grendel is portrayed as a lonely and miserable creature who craves companionship
and ponders deep questions about the universe. This is observed by Grendel s conversation with the
dragon and his inner thoughts about the living worldaround him. The Danes paranoia of Grendel
isolates him from society. He lives in solitude with his mother who he cannot connect with on
anymore than a physical level. As the novel progresses, Grendel becomes attached to humanity and
the Shaper in particular. The Shaper is an inspiring musician who sings imaginatively of a perfect
world. Grendel realizes that what the

The Thematic Trifecta Of The Scarlet Letter
The Thematic Trifecta of The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, narrates the experiences of Hester Prynne, a
beautiful young woman in Puritan times, after committing the sin of adultery with the local
Reverend, Mr. Arthur Dimmesdale. Because she became pregnant, she bears the public scorn of her
sin, while the town does not uncover Mr. Dimmesdale s participation in the act until the very end of
the novel. Using the Puritan society as the setting, and the development of both Hester Prynne and
Arthur Dimmesdale, Hawthorne explores the concepts of individuality, identity, and isolation.
Through Hester and Dimmesdale, he presents two scenarios: one in which the character is isolated
and freed from society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So great was this emotional control that in one of their happiest days, the Election Procession,
they appeared scarcely more grave than most other communities at a period of general affliction.
(Page 210) Using the Puritans as a backdrop for the novel, a society notorious for its Spartan,
emotionless nature and punishment of those who are different, unique, and in any way stray from
the expected, was a conscious choice by Hawthorne that allows the themes of identity and
individuality to display themselves clearly in Hester and Dimmesdale. Hester, one of the principal
characters of the novel, must wear a scarlet letter on her chest as a symbol of her sin and a
punishment for her adultery. However, in a powerful act of defiance, Hester makes the scarlet letter
a metaphorical part of her and a part of her identity, changing its symbolism to represent her
experiences, despite society s initial intent of the letter as a punishment. Hester believes that it
lies not in the pleasure of the magistrates to take off this badge, when she discovers the officials
had discussed ridding her of it. (Page 153) In Hester s mind, the letter has become a part of her
identity. Allowing society to remove it would only prove their control over her, and even nullify
any growth and

Analysis Of The Movie The Idea Of A Little Girl
When you go to see a musical for free because their box office numbers are down, you have to
adjust your expectations a little. I know that. But Tuck Everlasting was one of my favorite
stories growing up. The book, the movie... the idea of a little girl whose curiosity and excitement
for life could light up the never ending world of four adults always struck a chord with me, and I
was beside myself with excitement to see how such a whimsical tale could be brought to the
stage. For the sake of this essay, I m going to phrase my opinions in a brash, confident way that
make me seem like much more of a know it all about this show than I, in fact, am.
So, to begin. If you re going to write a musical that relies upon the electric connection between two
characters, you have to have the guts to, you know, let those two characters be onstage together,
alone, even just for a minute or two. The two main characters, Winnie Foster and Jesse Tuck, have
an instant draw to one another the moment they meet, and that unique chemistry propels the story
forward. Without it, one might be so bold as to say that the story falls apart. But I m getting ahead
of myself.
Tuck Everlasting is a musical adaptation of the well known novel by Natalie Babbitt. The
musical, which has songs written by the notable duo Miller and Tysen and a book by Claudia
Shear and Tim Federle, follows an eleven year old girl named Winnie Foster, a young girl who
meets a family called the Tucks. The Tucks, after drinking

Descriptive Statistics In Table 2
After conducting an analysis of descriptive statistics, as found in Table I, the results reveal that
$224.6 million dollars (M=$4.16 million, SD=$2.99 million) was spent across the 54 multimedia

belongs to Northern Illinois, while the largest contract $12,358,087 million, belonging to the

multimedia rights contracts. Of the $224.6 million dollars spent during the 2015 2016 season,

In terms of total spending, IMG is followed by Learfield (sum = $82.3 million), JMI (sum = $11.9

rights contracts, and only has two institution, which is reflected in their low total payout.
However, as illustrated in Table VI, JMI has a higher average payout than the two larger
companies, IMG and Learfield, (M=$5.93 million, SD= $4.7 million). JMI will see an increase
in their average payout during the 2016 2017 as well as during the 2017 2018 seasons with
addition of Clemson who will make $2.6 million to $7.7 million during the respective seasons.
IMG and Learfield are relatively similar in average payouts, with IMG averaging $4.53 million
(SD = $3.52 million) and Learfield averaging $3.74 million (SD= $1.87 million). IMG and
Learfield, both with over 20 contracts a piece have a far greater range of contract sizes, with IMG
controlling both the smallest payout, $375,000, and the largest payout, $12.36 million. The
variables outlined in Table VII were used in an attempt to explain the effect that numerous factors
have on the guaranteed rights fee that a university receives from a third party rights holder. Those
variables were separated into four categories; property related, football performance, basketball
performance, and demand indicators. From there, a Pearson product moment correlation was applied

The Depiction Of Strong Women On The Film Waiting For...
The depiction of strong women in leading roles is fairly uncommon because of unrealistic,
universal ideas of how women should be. Throughout the years, there have been a few strong
female roles, but not enough. In Frank Bruni s article, Waiting for Wonder Woman , he declares
that there aren t enough movies with strong female characters. Bruni starts off with, Maybe
because I have seven nieces whose dreams matter to me, maybe because I have so many female
friends whose talents dazzle me. He goes into how he has plenty of women around him that he
knows have strong passions and dreams. He believes that movies should be more equal. There
should be women that are saving citizens or the world, or at least doing something heroic, not just
men. The appearance of strong women are missing in popular movies and shows.. The world wants
this equality , yet what everyone watches on the TV is the complete opposite.
Many women roles in movies consist of being feminine, girly, unintelligent, silly, and/or princess
like. There are plenty of different actresses that have only ever played these so called dumb roles
such as Marilyn Monroe. In the 1950 s, Marilyn Monroe portrayed a beautiful dumb blonde that
preferred her looks more than brains, in two separate films. Monroe played these roles because she
looked the part. She was a beautiful woman that kept her hair blonde. Back then, she was all the
directors had for an actress that didn t have to physically change to play a part.

Ontology is the Specifcation of Conceptualization
Definition of ontology According to Tom Gruber, an AI specialist at Stanford University, ontology
is the specification of conceptualization, used to help programs and human share knowledge.
Ontology also is a description about the concepts and relationships that can exist for an agent or
community of agent. A description in this case means it s like a formal specification of the
program. Ontology also is the working model of entities and interaction in some particular domain
of knowledge or practice according to the information technology. The example of the ontology
according to the information technology aspect is the electronic commerce or the activity of
planning. Ontology is the set of concept that are specified in some way in order to create an agreed
in this usage. In some cases, the ontology can be described as a set of definition of formal
vocabulary. Ontologies are also not limited to conservative definition, that is, definition in the
traditional logic sense that only introduce terminology and do not add any knowledge about the
world (Endeton, 1972). Definition of accident An accident can be defined as the unplanned,
uncontrolled event which has led to or could have led to injury to people, damage to plant,
machinery or the environment and/or other loses. Accident also can be defined as unfortunate

The Australian Healthcare System Has Been Evolving Since...
Introduction The Australian healthcare system has been evolving since the beginning of the
colonisation of Australia. Today, Australia has an extremely efficient healthcare system although it
still has several issues. The influencing factors, structure, and current issues of the Australian
healthcare system will be throughly discussed and explained in this essay.
Influencing Factors When Australia was first colonised, health services were considered to be an
issue to be dealt with by local governments (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d.). In 1901, the Constitution made health care the responsibility of the state governments and
stated that the Federal Government was only in charge of quarantine issues (Evolution of ... Show

In 1928, a national health insurance scheme was proposed but not implemented because it would
have required businesses to provide contributions to health insurance for their employees (Evolution
of Government Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Another national health insurance scheme was
proposed in 1938 but it was also rejected (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). The next proposal was the 1945 Pharmaceuticals Benefits Act. This Act
was not implemented because the Australian Medical Association challenged it in the High Court
of Australia and it was decided that parliament had exceeded its constitutional power (Hilless Healy,
2001). In 1946, under the Hospital Benefits Act, the Commonwealth began to subsidise public
hospitals under the condition that patients would not be charged (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). This act is similar to the current Medicare
system. Australia s first national health plan was introduced in 1950 (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Five years after the first attempt at a Pharmaceutical Benefits
Act, the Australian Government implemented the 1950 Pharmaceutical Benefits Act, which is still
in effect today (Hilless Healy, 2001). In 1953, the National Health Act was introduced by The

Advertisements Are Manipulating Or Informing
Advertisements Are Manipulating or Informing
Advertisement has taken a significant role in people s daily lives. With the development of
technological devices; it is impossible to escape from the advertisements. People now are
surrounded by advertisements everywhere, on the TV screen, newspapers, magazines, and on the
internet. Advertisements help people know information about the products and keep track of the
new products. However, with all the advertising out there, advertising techniques have changed in
several ways to grab the consumers attention and to keep the consumer s loyalty to the product.
According to James B. Twitchell s article, What We Are to Advertisers, Twitchell said, The object of
advertising is not just to brand parity objects but also to brand consumers as they move through
these various communities. (Twitchell, 182) This describes why many of the advertisements now
tend to be more manipulative than to be informative. Many people opposed to the idea that the
advertisements are manipulating and they often argued that advertisements increase the consumers
knowledge about the products. However, there are some evidences that advertisements are
manipulating the consumers and influence their decisions by associating the product with feeling,
using entertainers, and making the advertisement visually attractive.
Firstly, opponents of the idea that advertisements are manipulating claim, that advertisements only
provide the consumers with the basic

Essay On Poland
Poland is known worldwide for its delicious food and pristine green landscape. Today, Poland has
the sixth largest economy in the European union. The GDP in poland is 1.051 trillion dollars and
has been remained relatively steady since 2010. There is a fairly low unemployment rate at 6.2%
in Poland compared to Canada s 6.9%. Positive aspects of their economy include their steady rate of
growth for the last 25 years, their efficient use of resources from the European Structural funds and
lastly the strong domestic demand for their exports. On the other hand, unfortunately Polands
economy also suffers from many many negatives. The first negative is their political uncertainty.

The main reason for this rise is because of the persistent demand of a policy of economic
liberalization throughout the 90 s.
Productive Sector
The automotive industry is one of the biggest means of production in Poland, accounting for 11%
of their industrial productions. Before WWII, Poland s industrial sector consisted mostly of coal,
textile, chemical, and iron. It now includes items such as fertilizers, petrochemicals, and machine
tools. In 2012, the PKN Orlen, located in Poland, was the biggest company in terms of sales in
central Europe, providing jobs for over 24,000 people. In poland, there are not many small and
medium businesses compared to other countries in the European Union. They have 1.9 businesses
for every 1,000 citizens. The role of small and medium businesses is very important in the Polish
economy just like it is in every economy, meaning they need new companies to challenge each other
thus creating the most efficient economy.
Trade
Poland has a balance of trade (the difference in value between a country s imports and exports) of
2 billion, 100 million dollars. As Poland is included in the European Union, they have a common
external tariff that applies for all goods coming from outside of the country. The main import for
Poland comes from the US, mostly shipping capital good s to help with industrial retooling. The
major exports of Poland are machinery, more specifically,

One of the most famous players, Michael Jordan, wears his college team s shorts underneath his
Bulls uniform because he believes that it brings him good luck. He even got 6 NBA
championships, which is proof that his superstition worked. Based on Dr. Stuart Vyse, the
professor of Psychology at Connecticut College. Who is also a science writer and the author of
Believing in Magic: The Psychology of Superstition and The 7 Laws of Magical Thinking: How
Irrational Beliefs Keep Us Happy, Healthy, and Sane. Defined the word superstition, A superstition
is a belief or behavior that s inconsistent with conventional science and attributes functional mental
properties into non mental phenomenon. (L. 39 to 42) In other words, a superstition is doing
something to get a better outcome.
To start off, superstitions can make us feel like we are controlling our outcomes and that we are in
control of the situations, that we have no control over. They re maintained in part by a phenomenon
psychologists call the illusions of control. In certain circumstances, if you perform some action that
can t possibly affect the outcome in any real sense, you have the feeling that you have control and
that feels good better than just sitting and waiting. (L. 71 to 76) To simplify, superstitions help our
brains relax and increase the chances of getting a desired outcome. As a fact, the illusionary feeling
of control can strengthen the actual control we have over a situation.
To add on, one of the best

Examples Of Desserts
1 INTRODUCTION
Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that
there is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English
equating women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor
functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example
women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces
women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate
objects. Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just
desserts, but pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... Show more content on

Rihanna states that a man wants to lick the icing off , using cake and eating as metaphors for sex.
Moreover, in the example 4, blowing candles out could be a metaphor for an orgasm.
Unlike Trey Songz and Rihanna s songs, Melanie Martinez s Milk and Cookies does not have any
sexual allusions. However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor:
(5)I m fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They re made just for
you A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b)
As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful
and decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is
offering her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The
example could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with a little bit of sugar , but
also sinful: but lots of poison, too .
R. Kelly s Cookie is filled with sexual allusions and is a metaphor for sex:

Loss and Reflection in The Wife s Lament
Loss and Reflection in The Wife s Lament
Isolation from society can evoke a deep loneliness and self reflection. The poem The Wife s
Lament from the Exeter Book expresses the desolation of exile. The dominant theme is the contrast
of a happy past and a bleak present of isolation. The anonymous author of The Wife s Lamentuses
setting, tone, and conflict to develop the theme of great loss. He/she augments a situation in which
meditation on life s past joys is the only redemption in a life sentenced to confinement. The Wife s
Lament is an excellent example of nostalgia, resentment of the present, and hopelessness about the
future.
While there has been much ambiguity surrounding the exact setting in the elegy, the author uses
imagery of the speaker s environment to further emphasize the dismal realities of exile. The harsh
land in which the wife is required to live mirrors the passionate longing and loneliness that she
displays. This earth hall is old, and I ache with longing; the dales are dark, the hills too high, harsh
hedges overhung with briars, a home without joy (Exeter Book 29 32).
Meyer II
The author emphasizes the drastic contrast in the speaker s emotional state through the setting she
finds herself in. She is taken from the comfort of her home and thrust both an environment and
mind state of isolation. However, the setting also helps fuel the hatred that develops in the wife s
mind for her husband. The speaker is ambivalent of her feelings for her

Holden s Teenage Life
Teenage life is known to be full of anxiety and problems, ripe with angst and development. All
adults have gone through it, but it is still a often overlooked aspect of life. J. D. Salinger s novel
The Catcher in the Rye details a taste of troubled teenage life. This novel is a noteworthy classic,
lending towards the author s refusal to have the book digitalized in any way. The book itself is
about the 16 year old Holden Caulfield, a teen in the big city of New York, with a lot of
problems. This novel goes a long way to showing how difficult it can be to grow up, and how it
is critical to have good relationships with others to make it through. One of the primary effects
on Holden s teenage life is the loss of his brother, which is not mentioned until later in the story,
where Holden mentions how descriptive his brother Allie s mitt is, stating he had poems written
all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere He wrote them on it so that he d have
something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He s dead now. This quote
is especially interesting because it is stated in a present tense style, while most of the story is in
past tense. This goes to show how much of an impact this particular event has had on Holden s
teenage life, clearly having a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

make connections with others. Throughout the story we see Holden desperately attempting to

There are many positions in life, personal, professional, spiritual, and so on that asks us to have a

The mission of the University of Charleston (University Of Charleston About Us, 2015) is to
educate and enrich students to conform their current and future lifestyles. The Organizational
Leadership(OL) program I started in 2011 has revealed to me the various complexities associated
with change. My development in the organizational leadership curriculum has opened my eyes to
areas that have helped me relate to others. Introduction of the adult learner, the explanation of
psychological, personality development, the study of different types of leadership and their styles

studied in the field beginning with having a vision, to communication in an enterprise and cross
cultural boundaries with interventions to conform structure.
The impact from learning about interpersonal skills and leadership has engaged my citizenship at
work and in my personal life as well. Leaders must have a solid understanding of how their
emotions and actions affect the people around them, especially with the many challenges and
opportunities that arise when working with others (Philips, 2012). The better a person relates and

The Effects Of Hormones On The Human Body Essay
Introduction
Prednisone is a corticosteroid that is synthetically manufactured from the steroid, cortisone, to be
used as a medication.2 In the human body different steroids work to control many different
functions. Metabolism, inflammation, immune function, salt and water balance, sexual
characteristics and your ability to withstand the stress of illness and injury are all greatly affected
by different levels and types of steroids present.7 Prednisone, being a synthetic version of cortisone,
works by mimicking the effects of hormones produced naturally in the body in the human adrenal
glands, located on top of the kidneys.3 Naturally produced cortisone helps to regulate the body s
salt and water balance and reduces inflammation.7
When Prednisone is administered in dosage levels higher than the usual amount produced naturally
in the body inflammation can become suppressed. The action of this suppression helps to reduce
and treat the signs and symptoms characteristic of certain inflammatory conditions, such as asthma,
severe allergies, arthritis and some skin conditions.3, 4 As Prednisone is a steroid medication, it has
the ability to weaken the immune system, which greatly increases the risk of infection, or
worsening an already present infection.11 Because of the potential complications and risks
associated with the admission of Prednisone, it is important that great care is to be taken when it
is prescribed to a patient. As there is no fixed rule as to how Prednisone is

Allowing Religious People To Refuse Services To Homosexuals
The Pursuit of Happiness American states are trying to pass a bill that allows religious business
owners to refuse services to homosexuals. If homosexuals can live in perfect harmony with
religious people without having a problem with them, why can religious people not do the same?
Passing a bill that allows religious business owners to refuse service to homosexuals is unjust.
Bills are being passed in America that allows religious people to refuse services to same sex
couples because of religious beliefs. According to the article, The Great Secession, religious
business owners have declined to provide services for gay weddings and commitment services
because it goes against their religious beliefs (Rauch 19). Religious business owners believe that
they have the right to refuse services to homosexuals, which is true because it is their divine right
as an American citizen.
Religious people have the right to refuse services to homosexuals because it is their divine right,
and religious people are not trying to be mean when they refuse services to homosexuals. One of
their divine rights is freedom of religion. It gives religious people the right to refuse to provide

me to discuss because again, homelessnesscan effect absolutely anyone. Homelessness does not

Depression And Dementi Depression
Several studies have shown links between depression and dementia. Brommelhoff, Johansson,
Fratiglioni, Gatz, McArdle, Pederson state, there are three hypotheses that might explain the
association (Jorm, 2001). The first is that depression is a symptom that indicates the onset of
dementia, also known as a prodromal feature. The second is that the two are independent illnesses;
however, depression causes cognitive deficits, which lead to an earlier onset of dementia. The last
argues that depression causes damage in the hippocampus, which then leads to dementia. Some
studies have found depression to be a prodrome of dementia. One specifically found that depression
arises due to neuropathological damages during the course of dementia, and another showed that
people with late onset depression had greater frontal lobe atrophy than controls and those with early
onset depression. On the other hand, it has been shown that a history of depression increases the
risk of dementia later in life. There is some evidence that the earlier the onset of depression, the
greater the likelihood is of developing dementia later; however, this only held true in individuals
with little education. The disagreement and contradiction in previous studies call for further
experimentation, primarily to determine whether a history of depression significantly predicted the
likelihood of having dementia later in life (Brommelhoff et al., 2009). Researchers examined the
difference in the number of years

The Story of Vlad the Impaler s Life
Are you a fan of Vampires or Dracula? I am so I did some research on them, that, and I was told

a prince for his father was from a family of princes in Wallachia (Goldberg Itzkowitz pg. 18), and
of course his mother being a princess helped. His name Dracula means little dragon, or little
devil . His father was a knight of Emperor Sigismund. Vlad lived near the front line of defense for
this reason alone. When Vlad was about either 12 or 13 he and his brother Radu were traded to
the Turks by their father as hostages as to keep the treaty of peace between the two countries from
ever being broken. While they were hostages the Turks taught them science and mathematics, and

Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And...
Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely
completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the
creation of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged
citizens in first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true
nature of the culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every
person on the whole continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and
environmental surroundings. A satirical article named How to Write about Africa
draws attention to
the exaggerated usage of the wild landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes
who come in and save all of the dying babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to
this idea of portraying Africa in a certain light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a
single story. A majority of media articles in general only present a single story to appeal to their
target audience, but articles about Africa in particular are notorious for painting the picture of a
povertystricken continent that needs to be saved and few people have enough knowledge about
Africa to contest the media they see everyday. A recent articled named, Mothers and babies at risk

time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer is the final purchaser of the product or another
process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method
ensured there wouldn t be an excess amount of inventory isn t sitting in the warehouse. When
properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan s competitiveness in the
marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of
production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with
just in time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not
deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the
production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply
chain
Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee
empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and
eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest
cost, and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high
cost and the level of complexity to implement the method.
The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all
products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean
like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer
focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer Render, 2014). By
implementing Lean Nissan can provide their customer what they want

Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important
then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to
you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and
forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of
importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just
be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are
no better than anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to
others. Nothing replaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will make the other person feel insecure and reluctant to talk to you; the people around you
will either think your comments are funny (they aspire to be a jerk like you), or they will
consider you rude and disgraceful. It doesn t really matter what anyone else thinks though, does
it? You are yourself and no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should
you be concerned with anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is
everything.
If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This
kind of jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and
unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you,
don t say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they
gave you or how they should accomplish things faster. Don t be grateful; if you are grateful,
people will think that they can win your favor with good deeds; that s manipulation. You can t let
anyone win your favor; that would show weakness, and you have to be strong to show that you
are of great importance. Be disrespectful to everyone, and elders and authority figures especially.
Respect can also be linked to weakness, since respecting someone can be taken

The Roles Of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba In The 19th Century
When Sri Shirdi Sai Baba incarnated as Avatar, whole galaxy of saints also had to take birth and
function as saints, as spiritualcollaborators or adjuncts of Sri Sai Baba in the divine drama during
the later half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.Naturally our curiosity is
awakened at this point. Sri Shirdi Sai Baba wasone of the Five Perfect Masters: who then were
the other Four Perfect Masters?Aiyer has not given answer to it directly, but in his book Perfect
Masters he gaveprofiles of Upasani Baba, Tajuddin Baba, Baba Jan, Narsing Maharaj and Meher
Bababesides Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. That means, he mentioned five instead of four Perfect
Masters.Bhardawaj cited a very interesting revelation in this connection:
One day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If youthink him to be a Yavan, He looked like a pious Hindu. No one definitely knewwhether He
was a Hindu or a Mohammedan. He celebrated the Hindu festival of Rama Navami with all due
formalities and at the same time permitted the sandal procession of the Mohammedans. ...If you
call Him Hindu, He always lived inthe masjid; if Mohammedan, He always had the dhuni, (the
sacred fire) and the following things which are contrary to Mohammedan religion, i.e., grinding
on th echakki handmill, blowing of the sankh(conch), ringing bells, oblation in the fire, bhajan,
givingof food and worshipping of Baba s feet by means of arghya (water) were alwaysallowed
there. If you think that He was a Mohammedan, the best of Brahmins and Agnihotris, leaving
aside their orthodox ways, fell prostrate at his feet. Sai Baba wassuch a saint, who saw no
difference between caste and creed and even beings andbeings. He took meat and fish with
Fakirs, but did not grumble when dogs touchedthe dishes with their mouth. ...How could He,
who even in dreams never warded off cats and dogs by harsh words and signs, refuse food to poor
and helpless people. He saw divinity in all beings. Friends and foes were alike to Him. He even
obliged the evil doer and was the same in prosperity and adversity. No doubt ever touchedHim. 22
Thus we can see that Sri Shirdi Sai Baba was indeed a unique saint.
The Galaxy of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba s Contemporary Saints
There were 54 or 56 saints who were the contemporaries of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba and were in
contact with Him in some way or the other and about whom Ihave been able to discover some
valuable information from Sai Literature and other spiritual literature of his times.
Before I briefly highlight about them, the following interesting points may be

  • 2. Southern Cone History Throughout the United States of America the Southern Cone and its history may be an unknown. However, two countries located in Latin America s Southern Cone have important histories that are relevant to the America. Argentina and Paraguay are major nations of the southern cone that participated in an undercover operation called Operation Condor which connects many countries of the Southern Cone. Argentina is the biggest country of the southern cone and has a unique history with penguins. The Magellanic penguins call Argentina home. These penguins have an interesting take on the relationship between the mother and father during a mother penguin s pregnancy. Their history leading up to Operation Condor involves three men that led the country to a government based on military dictatorships. After Jose Francia and Carlos Lopez, two of the first leaders of Paraguay after winning independence from Spain, Francisco Lopez is in power in 1862 (Resnick). Lopez was interested in not being a country of isolation and forced everyone to be part of the military unless one was a priest or could pay the price to not be in the military. While he signs a treaty with Uruguay a war is about to begin over who is in power in Uruguay. Lopez runs into trouble with bringing Paraguay into the War of the Triple Alliance. Paraguay falls on the wrong side having to fight against Brazil, Argentina, and the Colorado Party of Uruguay (Resnick). Paraguayans are forced with two options that both end in death: not fight and be executed by Lopez or go to war and be killed by Brazilians, Argentinians, or Uruguayans. Paraguay eventually has to even send their children to fight due to the loss of many people. After Paraguay loses the war, Brazil takes the country over. The next known leader that Paraguay has after Brazil leaves is Alfredo Stroessner. This man starts the process of Operation Condor in 1975 (Resnick). Stroessner becomes leader of Paraguay in 1954 due to his planned military coup taking over the nation. He was the Commander in Chief of the military in Paraguay controlling all parts of the military. Stroessner put conditions in place like Argentina with additions including secret police, censorship, prison camps, torture, no freedom of speech, banning unions, curfew, dissolving Congress, and suspending the Constitution. Connolly, P. and McGing, G. (2006) mentions that designing significant educational programs for the hospitality industry is not a simple and easy task, as there are continually unresolved debates between scholars and practitioners about the suitable balance between academics and profession. Hospitality management vocational degree programs aim at satisfying a common need in the industry for skilled future employees and hence, it is required by educational institutions to ensure the academic curriculum not only meets educational epecations but also student and industry expectations (O Mahony, et al. 2001). • 5. Bring Back Flogging Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages , he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. The Supervisory Control and Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak demand. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. • 25. Reaction Paper On Superstition One of the most famous players, Michael Jordan, wears his college team s shorts underneath his Bulls uniform because he believes that it brings him good luck. He even got 6 NBA championships, which is proof that his superstition worked. Based on Dr. Stuart Vyse, the professor of Psychology at Connecticut College. Who is also a science writer and the author of Believing in Magic: The Psychology of Superstition and The 7 Laws of Magical Thinking: How Irrational Beliefs Keep Us Happy, Healthy, and Sane. Defined the word superstition, A superstition is a belief or behavior that s inconsistent with conventional science and attributes functional mental properties into non mental phenomenon. (L. 39 to 42) In other words, a superstition is doing something to get a better outcome. To start off, superstitions can make us feel like we are controlling our outcomes and that we are in control of the situations, that we have no control over. They re maintained in part by a phenomenon psychologists call the illusions of control. In certain circumstances, if you perform some action that can t possibly affect the outcome in any real sense, you have the feeling that you have control and that feels good better than just sitting and waiting. (L. 71 to 76) To simplify, superstitions help our brains relax and increase the chances of getting a desired outcome. As a fact, the illusionary feeling of control can strengthen the actual control we have over a situation. To add on, one of the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Examples Of Desserts 1 INTRODUCTION Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that there is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English equating women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects. Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just desserts, but pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor: (5)I m fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They re made just for you A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b) As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful and decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is offering her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The example could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with a little bit of sugar , but also sinful: but lots of poison, too . R. • 27. Loss and Reflection in The Wife s Lament Loss and Reflection in The Wife s Lament Isolation from society can evoke a deep loneliness and self reflection. The poem The Wife s Lament from the Exeter Book expresses the desolation of exile. The dominant theme is the contrast of a happy past and a bleak present of isolation. The anonymous author of The Wife s Lamentuses setting, tone, and conflict to develop the theme of great loss. He/she augments a situation in which meditation on life s past joys is the only redemption in a life sentenced to confinement. The Wife s Lament is an excellent example of nostalgia, resentment of the present, and hopelessness about the future. While there has been much ambiguity surrounding the exact setting in the elegy, the author uses imagery of the speaker s environment to further emphasize the dismal realities of exile. The harsh land in which the wife is required to live mirrors the passionate longing and loneliness that she displays. This earth hall is old, and I ache with longing; the dales are dark, the hills too high, harsh hedges overhung with briars, a home without joy (Exeter Book 29 32). Meyer II The author emphasizes the drastic contrast in the speaker s emotional state through the setting she finds herself in. She is taken from the comfort of her home and thrust both an environment and mind state of isolation. However, the setting also helps fuel the hatred that develops in the wife s mind for her husband. The speaker is ambivalent of her feelings for her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Holden s Teenage Life Teenage life is known to be full of anxiety and problems, ripe with angst and development. All adults have gone through it, but it is still a often overlooked aspect of life. J. D. Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye details a taste of troubled teenage life. This novel is a noteworthy classic, lending towards the author s refusal to have the book digitalized in any way. The book itself is about the 16 year old Holden Caulfield, a teen in the big city of New York, with a lot of problems. This novel goes a long way to showing how difficult it can be to grow up, and how it is critical to have good relationships with others to make it through. One of the primary effects on Holden s teenage life is the loss of his brother, which is not mentioned until later in the story, where Holden mentions how descriptive his brother Allie s mitt is, stating he had poems written all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere He wrote them on it so that he d have something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He s dead now. This quote is especially interesting because it is stated in a present tense style, while most of the story is in past tense. • 31. The Effects Of Hormones On The Human Body Essay Introduction Prednisone is a corticosteroid that is synthetically manufactured from the steroid, cortisone, to be used as a medication.2 In the human body different steroids work to control many different functions. Metabolism, inflammation, immune function, salt and water balance, sexual characteristics and your ability to withstand the stress of illness and injury are all greatly affected by different levels and types of steroids present.7 Prednisone, being a synthetic version of cortisone, works by mimicking the effects of hormones produced naturally in the body in the human adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys.3 Naturally produced cortisone helps to regulate the body s salt and water balance and reduces inflammation.7 When Prednisone is administered in dosage levels higher than the usual amount produced naturally in the body inflammation can become suppressed. The action of this suppression helps to reduce and treat the signs and symptoms characteristic of certain inflammatory conditions, such as asthma, severe allergies, arthritis and some skin conditions.3, 4 As Prednisone is a steroid medication, it has the ability to weaken the immune system, which greatly increases the risk of infection, or worsening an already present infection.11 Because of the potential complications and risks associated with the admission of Prednisone, it is important that great care is to be taken when it is prescribed to a patient. • 39. Depression And Dementi Depression Several studies have shown links between depression and dementia. Brommelhoff, Johansson, Fratiglioni, Gatz, McArdle, Pederson state, there are three hypotheses that might explain the association (Jorm, 2001). The first is that depression is a symptom that indicates the onset of dementia, also known as a prodromal feature. The second is that the two are independent illnesses; however, depression causes cognitive deficits, which lead to an earlier onset of dementia. The last argues that depression causes damage in the hippocampus, which then leads to dementia. Some studies have found depression to be a prodrome of dementia. One specifically found that depression arises due to neuropathological damages during the course of dementia, and another showed that people with late onset depression had greater frontal lobe atrophy than controls and those with early onset depression. On the other hand, it has been shown that a history of depression increases the risk of dementia later in life. There is some evidence that the earlier the onset of depression, the greater the likelihood is of developing dementia later; however, this only held true in individuals with little education. The disagreement and contradiction in previous studies call for further experimentation, primarily to determine whether a history of depression significantly predicted the likelihood of having dementia later in life (Brommelhoff et al., 2009). Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in particular are notorious for painting the picture of a povertystricken continent that needs to be saved and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. • 42. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Just In Time Inventory... Nissan has adopted many different process practices to assist their daily manufacturing functions. Just in time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean are three theory concepts the firm has implemented to ensure the company stays on track in order to meet their goals. Just in time inventory management is a cost cutting inventory management strategy that results to stock outs. It originally referred to the production of goods to meet customer demand exactly, in time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer is the final purchaser of the product or another process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method ensured there wouldn t be an excess amount of inventory isn t sitting in the warehouse. When properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan s competitiveness in the marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with just in time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply chain Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest cost, and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high cost and the level of complexity to implement the method. The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer Render, 2014). By implementing Lean Nissan can provide their customer what they want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
