Sympathy And Caged Bird Comparison
Freedom has been an essence to the American people for many decades. Indeed, because of
freedom, America was viewed as an ideal Land of the free by the foreign immigrants, who
experienced harsh voyages through sea to reach America. Furthermore, following the call for
freedom, the colonists rose in defiance to Great Britain in the War of Independence. In the United
States, the image of liberty, of self independence is reflected by many artworks and literary works.
Notably, among these artworks, Caged by Maya Angelou and Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar
are the typical examples which most obviously express the hope of self independence. Although
Caged Bird and Sympathy use the similar literary device caged bird to convey the same message,...

Reading the poem, one shall firstly say that the tones of both works are obviously the same, for
Sympathy and Caged Bird show an alternative order of the tone of melancholy and the tone of
delight. For example, in Sympathy, the first stanza from line 1 to 7 gives the readers a feeling
of joy because of the serene scene sun is bright, springing grass, river flow, yet the next seven
lines conveys the picture of an extreme situation wherein blood is red on the cruel bars, giving
the reader a sense of desperation. In the same way, Angelou also repeated the same pattern in her
poem, that the readers can find tranquility in orange sun rays where free bird leaps from line 1 6
of the first stanza, but sadness in his narrow cage in the second stanza. Nevertheless, the nuance
in both works tones can be inferred in the last stanzas of Sympathy and Caged Bird. Whereas
Sympathy is solemn, but hopeful, Caged Bird seems to reflect a relinquishment to the
circumstance. Specifically, Dunbar expressed his hope that the bird would be emancipated of
his chain and the Black people would live in harmony with the White people to God on Heaven;
thus, a spirit of undefeated desire for freedom and a religious voice can be found in Sympathy. (15

Cult Of Personality Poster Analysis Essay
How do the Cult of Personality posters demonstrate elements of Confucianism? Using the Cult of
Personality posters as propaganda, Mao depicted himself as a god like figure, but still made
efforts to sustain the crucial ruler subject relationship of Confucianism (Chinese Posters). Most of
the images include Mao smiling, along with some of his subjects smiling or celebrating. This
associates the socialist dictator with happiness in an attempt to form a deep emotional connection
with him. Mao uses Filial Piety united with this happiness to demonstrate a need for the respect of
his subjects. For example, in one poster, Mao is depicted next to naval soldiers, in which he is the
focal point. The men he is speaking to are smiling, but gathered... Show more content on

But, they are highlighted stronger in the effects of the event. After encouraging civilians that
oppose him to criticize him and speak out, many did. People in positions of influence, such as
teachers, denounced Mao and his ideologies (Boyle). This was a ruse in order to seek
opposition, and weed them out from the rest of the country, because in a year, Mao s secret
police gathered 500,000 people who spoke out of his favor (Saunders). Typically, when a
dictator wants to remain in power, they will attempt to dissolve the opposing party, or those who
would vote for them. Through the Hundred Flowers, people were eliminated or denounced for
the sole reason that they spoke against their leader. Mao took away from them what is thought to
be one of the most highly valued right: the freedom of speech. The socialist dictator admitted it
as well, claiming, What should our policy be towards non Marxist ideas? As far as unmistakable
counter revolutionaries and saboteurs of the socialist cause are concerned, the matter is easy, we
simply deprive them of their freedom of speech, (Boyle). With the people who oppose him
silenced, he was likely to remain in power, using Hitler s and Stalin s

The Meaning Of Islam And Islam
The meaning of Islam is submission to one God. The central point or belief in Islam is to believe
in the existence of only one God or Allah. The religion revolves around this one belief known as
tawhid. This idea occurs in other religions such as Judaism and Christianity. All of these authentic
religions speak of the same God as Islamis the reassertion of the revelation of God to Abraham,
Noah and Christ. Islam considers these great figures as prophets and they are included in the
Quran, the holy book of Islam. Quran which is the word of God says that there are ninety nine
names of God which are distributed into Perfection, Majesty, and Beauty. Some of them include: the
Just, the Majestic, the Giver of Death, the Victorious, the All Powerful, the All Merciful, the
Forgiver and the Generous.
The belief in the Oneness of God is very essential as the most basic testifications or shahadas state:
There is no god but God (Allah) and Muhammad is the messenger of God. Allah has defined
human beings not as sinful but as beings that carry their primordial nature but negligence has
made them forget that nature. Islam was sent for remembrance of the knowledge of the One. For
this reason, the greatest sin acquired by human beings is not disobedience as said in Christianity
but it is shirk which is denying the Oneness of God and taking a partner onto God. God has
provided the human race with the intelligence for them to know the One and no forget and shirk is
a crime that would

Sheldon Cooper is a character in the fictional television show, The Big Bang Theory . Sheldon is
extremely knowledgeable and brilliant in the things he knows and is passionate about, but
everything else that doesn t interest him, he completely ignores. Sheldon is a theoretical physicist
at Caltech, having earned his B.S., M.S., M.A., Ph.D., and Sc.D. He lives with his roommate and
Caltech colleague, Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist. Having lived together for 10
years, the two have become best friends. Leonard often times feels obligated to explain Sheldon s
behavior and serve as a mediator between him and the people he is interacting with. The two are

Penny started to cry when she wasn t understanding anything. When Sheldon asks her why she is
crying, she responds, Because I m stupid! to which Sheldon responds, That s no reason to cry.
One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.
Another example comes from Sheldon feeling like he is deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize. He is
having a conversation with a former Peace Prize winner, Dr. Smoot, and says, You won the Nobel
prize, what, three years ago? So you must deal with a whole lot of what has Smoot done lately?
My thought is we continue my research as team, you know, Cooper Smoot, alphabetical.. When
we win the Nobel Prize, you ll be back on top. Dr. Smoot replies saying, With all due respect, Dr.
Cooper, are you on crack? to which Sheldon responds, Fine, Smoot Cooper, what a diva! Sheldon
doesn t think that what is saying is offensive in anyway, because he is too consumed in himself.
Another disorder I would diagnose Sheldon with is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD.
People with OCD have the need for everything to be perfect and having to be in control of
everything. Someone with OCD also does well with lists and schedules and does not like to stray
from them. These characteristics both apply to Sheldon. One thing Sheldon does, that is often seen
as comical, is having a roommate agreement with Leonard. It is essentially a contract that states the

The Psychological Impact Of Bullying
In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to
find out the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research
comes in. Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are
termed Action Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our educationsystem
we decided to tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action
research was to attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate
the occurrences of bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is

We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form
Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely
understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the
questionnaires. Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine
which class bullying cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in
the form to find out who has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way
because it would not have been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not
being bullied. To triangulate the information that we were about to collect we decided to use
interviews with the questionnaires. This was to ensure that the information that was collected from
the questionnaires were similar to what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students
who completed the questionnaires were later interviewed. I would say that this part of the
research mentioned is the most important as if it is not done correctly the research can go in
directions other than desired. If the research has no direction there would not be an effective
action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is the stage of the research
where data is

But have you ever wondered how they got them? It is a quite interesting predicament. like to hear
the tale? It begins on a sunny day in summer. Birds were singing flowers were everywhere and the
trees of the forest(mostly old huge oak trees)were standing tall and strong.
On a hilltop stood a deer. He was so proud of himself stating that he was the sole king of the
forest. I am the king of the forest. No one could ever challenge me. the deer said as the animals of

Essay on The D.B. Cooper Mystery
The D. B. Cooper Mystery On November 27, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, a man claiming to be
Dan Cooper bought a ticket for Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 to Seattle, Washington.
Dressed in a sharp dark suit with a pearl tiepin, this forty five year old man was about six feet tall
with black hair (Abacha and Gilmore 233). No one would suspect him of going down in
American history as the only man to ever escape capture after hijacking a U.S. plane (Warchol 1).
Soon after takeoff, after having his cigarette, bourbon, and a soda, Cooper handed a note to one of
the two stewardesses on the plane (Warchol 1; D.B. Cooper 1). The stewardess, Florence
Schaffner, planned to read it later until one of the other passengers urged her to take... Show more

Dan Cooper became known as D. B. Cooper when the FBI questioned someone with that name,
who was found unrelated to the crime (Abacha and Gilmore 234). A few months after Cooper s
disappearance, another skyjack, very similar to Cooper s, was carried out by Richard McCoy
(Warchol 1). McCoy jumped out of the back of a Boeing 727over Provo, California, with a
$500,000 ransom that FBI later found in his home (Warchol 1; Abacha and Gilmore 234). He
received a forty five year prison sentence, but he escaped in 1974 by crafting a faux pistol out of
dental paste but later died in a shoot out with police (Warchol 1; Abacha and Gilmore 234). In
1995, a man named Duane Weber confessed on his deathbed to his wife, Jo, that he was Dan
Cooper. Jo looked up the name and learned of D. B. Cooper who by description looked very
much like her husband did when he was young. The FBI compared his fingerprints to the sixty
six found on the plane, but none matched (Abacha and Gilmore 234). A woman named Marla
Cooper claimed in 2011 that D. B. Cooper was her uncle who had passed away in 1999. Cooper
remembers her uncle, L. D. Cooper, coming home bloodied and telling the family that their money
problems were over because he had hijacked a plane. She also declared that her father told her
shortly before his death that L.D. Cooper had done it (Johnson and Welch). However, L.D. Cooper
was eliminated from the suspect list

Captive Orcas Killer Whales
Though often seen as fierce killing machines, Orca whales, more commonly known as killer
whales, are much different. In some ways, these mysterious creatures are much like humans.
Many people are fascinated by these whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as
SeaWorld. What most people don t realize is that the life of these whales is not as great as it may
seem. There is much evidence that proves captive life will never be adequate. There is no doubt
that life in captivity is no match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors and
aggressive tendencies in captivity that do not occur in the wild. In captivity, orcas have been known
to show aggressive tendencies resulting in injury and even death. While there... Show more content

The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life
expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961
are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca
whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding
program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be
alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered
captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most
parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by
Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are
inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are Orcas far too intelligent to be held
captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social needs. In the wild, Orcas have
complex familial and social relationships with those in their pods that they are not able to sustain
in captivity due to being placed in a pool with and artificial family. Orcas typically spend their
entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2). In captivity, the young are separated
from their mothers. At SeaWorld, after a four and a half year old Orca was taken away from

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

Time traveling, a concept known to modern man as inconceivable, but in The Time Machine, by
H.G. Wells, this fathom of human fantasy has come to life. Wells entangles a unique blend of
contrasting characters, conflicts of capitalist verses laborer divisions, and foreshadowing of the
destruction of humanity to seem together this novel of visionary proportions. The Time Machine is
a bleak and sober vision of man s place in the Universe. (McConnell Pg.1581)

Morlocks only come to the upper world in the dark, for they cannot stand the glare of sunlight.
They are strange little beings whose pallid bodies are just the half bleached color of the worms

faces are set great lidless, pinkish grey eyes that glow of red. At night they leave their subterranean

The next character is the Time Traveler himself, who remains nameless throughout the whole
novel. He is an inventor with an infatuation of the future and Darwin s theory of the fourth

highly concerned with the world to come and has spent years perfecting his spectacular machine. It

Compare And Contrast Middle Colony And Backcountry

aspects of living as well. Each colony succeeded because of their unique characteristics that were

Pump Creek Short Story
Losing somebody is hard, but remembering the memories you have of them is an amazing
feeling. In the summer of 84, my mother, her late mom (Grandma Patty), and her best friend,
Julie, went on a canoe trip down Stump Creek. If the name doesn t give any clues to what this
creek was like, well I ll help you understand. This creek was littered with old fallen trees that stuck
out above the water s surface, and also hidden right beneath the surface. Because of these, it was
easy to get stuck on them. That being said, read on to discover just what went down on the
seemingly calm waters of StumpCreek, and one of the last memories my mom has of her own
mother.
It was the summer of 1984 when my mom, her mom, and her best friend decided it would be fun
to take a canoe trip down scenic Stump Creek, just west of a small secluded Wisconsin town called
St. Germain. They brought along a cooler full of liverwurst sandwiches with onions Grandma Patty
s favorite for lunch, their old rusty canoe that hadn t been used in years, Grandma s camera, and
everything else Grandma thought they need. They all piled into the canoe ready to enjoy a relaxing
day on the water, or so they thought.

Brave New World Vs Reality Essay
Brave New World vs. Reality
In many cases when you read a novel you may find comparisons between the quot;fictional quot;
society and your realistic one. The author may consciously or unconsciously create similarities
between these two worlds. The novelist can foresee the future and write according to this vision. In
Brave New World, Adlous Huxley envisions the future of our society and the dangerous directionit
is headed in.
Brave New World is greatly dependant upon soma, as in our worldwhere prescribed drugs and drug
abuse are prominent. This is evident when Bernard and Lenina return from the Savage Reservation.

Physical and mental controlling (hypnopaedia) is used to teach moral lessons in Brave New

Government Spending On Welfare And The Gross Domestic Product
Introduction
Various governments send out information regarding how various tax revenues are utilizes on
people who pay these taxes. Spending is always broken into numerous categories and welfare is
one of the biggest categories. Expenditure on welfare is directly extracted from government
statistics[1]. There has been a great debate as to whether government spending on welfare has any
relationship with the size of a country s GDP[2]. As such, this research is meant to demystify the
situation. The purpose of carrying out this research is to examine any underlying correlation
between the government spending in welfare of the people and the gross domestic product.
There are two hypotheses as far as this subject is concerned. One sates that ... Show more content on

Additionally, people who are working in countries that have better welfare will be in a better
position to work and hence help build the GDP. Hence, carrying out the research will help the
researcher be able to choose between the two hypotheses and hence determine whether government
expenditure on welfare effects the growth of the GDP or stagnation of the same.
Literature Review
The question of whether or not there is a correlation between government spending on welfare and
the GDP has thrown policy makers into debates and clearly differing theoretical camps[3].
Empirical studies have given confusing evidence as some of the studies have favored one approach
or the other depending on many factors in consideration. The huge growth of government spending
on the welfare of the people in both development and developing countries since the times of the
Second World War and its effect on the gross domestic product has produced a wide literature that
offers distinct attempts to expound on the observed relationship[4].
On the other side, studies on public finance have been channels on the identification of the primary
causes of the growth in public sector expenditure. Among the earliest trials to explain, the growth
in the economic growth and expenditure in the public sector is Wagner s Law. This law is based
on the observations of Adolf Wagner. His observations were first for his country and then for rest of
the world. He states that

Bohemian Research Paper
Many free spirited people, also known as Bohemians , get dreadlocks as a way to passively
express their beliefs of social justice and nonconformity. Before the rise of the hippie movement,
Rastafarians dreadlocked their hair strictly for religious and traditional reasons, but now, thanks to
Bohemianism, dreadlocks are used as a way to convey their hope for a less judgemental society.
The term Bohemian emerged in France in the early nineteenth century when artist, musicians, and
writers began to focus their work on the common people who lived in the lower rent, lower class,
Romani neighborhoods. These people were mistakenly thought to have come from the country of
Bohemia, a region encompassing the western Czech Republic, because of their unique appearance
and unconventional social motives. Bohemianism is derivative of the hippie counterculture
movement of the 1960 s and 70 s; however, the idea does not necessarily include protesting for
peace and the taking of psychedelic drugs. Instead, it is simply known for the practice of living

If none of these factors apply, then the person is most likely a Bohemian. People who have
dreadlocks for reasons beyond the Rastafarian culture are often seen as naive or disrespectful by
people thoroughly invested in the culture. One who is has dreads and is dedicated to Rastafarian
customs but is not African or Jamaican may still be viewed as spurious by the authentics. These
two cultures are different for many reasons regarding their geographic and traditional history;
however, the beliefs are similar. Like the Rastafarians, Bohemians strive to be spiritually
enlightened. Their prayers may be directed towards separate higher powers, but their general ethics

Technology And Its Effect On Society Essay
Over the years technology s growth in the world is increasing very rapidly, and new innovations
are coming along each and everyday. Technology is the application of scientific knowledge for
practical purposes, especially in industry (Oxford). There is no denying that the impact of
technology in the world today is huge, now technology has made it to the palm of our hands with
the iPhone and continuing to expand. My generation has grown up on technology so I can t
imagine how my life would be with out it, older people may say it has ruined the lives of youth. In
my opinion it has made us smarter but the more portable it gets it makes society blind to the
everyday outside activities of the world, however it has not ruined the youth. Technology causes
defects in social skills, health issues, and a crutch to upcoming youth. Technology can be sorted
into two distinct categories of how it affects our society today in a negative way and how it
influences activities and operations of today.
Defects in social skills
Technology has a control on society. Truthfully we have a tendency to expertise this result in our
daily lives. It s an impression on the expansion of the economy, our culture and our living
standards. Back in the stone ages a telephone call or letter was required to speak with somebody.
At that point you would need to wait for an answer to your letter or leave a message on their voice
mail in the event that they weren t home when you called. It was an extremely

Codes Of Ethics In Engineering
Ethics in Engineering
Ethics is the study of the characteristics of morals which involves the moral selections created by
individuals as they connect with other people. Engineers need to be mindful of ethics as they make
selections during their professional practice of engineering. Engineering ethics is a system of moral
principles and the field of applied ethics which applies to the practice of engineering and which can
also be seen as the rules and standards governing the conduct of engineers in their positions as
professionals. In engineering there are ethics that need to be upheld and respected.
Engineering practice can be characterized as a profession as compared to an occupation or job .
The following are attributes of a profession: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The codes also show the duties, rights, and obligations of the affiliates of the profession. Clearly,
the codes of ethics are not broad enough to cover all possible ethical problems that an engineer
might face in his or her career. The codes provide opening points for creating ethical resolutions.
It is crucial to know what code of ethics does not implicate: a code of ethics is not a legal script,
so a professional can t be arrested and put in jail for defying its provisions. Although defying the
code of ethics may end up in removal from a professional community (ECSA), removal from a
community normally will not result in an inability to practice engineering. A code of ethics does
not constitute new ethical and moral principles; these principles are established for centuries of
societal and human interactions. Engineers were developed with the codes of ethics along with
their respective professional communities. In the beginning, code of ethics was related to standard
business practices. Code of ethics were updated and modified as the professional communities
grew over the years. Code of ethics can sometimes be very specific and detailed but sometimes it
can be general and fairly

Between the movie and the book, Max still learns valuable lessons from Kevin in the end and

open and creative person than before he knew Kevin. Kevin taught him how to become the best

Steroids In Baseball Essay
Steroids have taken over the game of baseball and more players are starting to get involved with
them. Steroids are a big part of the Major League today in 2014, yet they entered the game of
baseball through trainer Curtis Wenzlaff in 1992. Players and the game s images are ravaged
when they become caught up in steroids. Some of the best players to ever play the game of
baseball have been caught up in steroids, including Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark
McGwire. Players with this level of skill are supposed to be role models for younger kids, yet
younger kids see that they used steroids and are tempted to use them. When their young,
impressionable minds witness steroids use, naturally kids attempt to imitate their idols. More...

Also, steroids can cause men s testicals to shrink (Mitchell 55). Baseball players who use steroids
are so mentally focused on the positive effects of steroids that they forget to think about the
negative effects on mental health, the liver, the cardiovascular system, and the reproductive
system. The main type of steroids causing all this chaos to the body are called Anabolic steroids.
Anabolic steroids are used the most often in Major League Baseball (MLB). The reasons why
MLB players get caught up in Anabolic steroids is because they have so much pressure on them
to hit home runs, get on base, and entertain. To help them cope with their pressure, they turn to
Anabolic steroids because of the fast gains and positive impacts players experience after
treatment. This is a positive for baseball fans, who have seen an increase in home runs hit; for
example, in just a five year span between 1961 and 1996, there was an increase of nine players
who hit at least forty home runs in just one season. Anabolic steroids also make one s hands
faster and they increase muscle in areas like the pectorals and forearms. When players are going
through a slump and they hear about all of these benefits of Anabolic steroids, they are tempted by
this easy fix. Despite all of these positives, negatives also come with steroid use. Anabolic steroids
can be taken two different ways by injection, which

Book Of Exodus Comparison Essay
The Book of Exodus, known in Hebrew as Sefer Shemot ( Book of Names ), is the second book of
the Torah (Pentateuch) and the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Exodus recounts the events of
the Egyptian enslavement of the Israelites, their subsequent liberation by their god, Yahweh, and
the Deliverer, Moses, and their journey to the Promised Land. To facilitate the comprehension of
Exodus or to make hundreds of millions of dollars film studios have produced many film
adaptations of Exodus two in the case of Cecil B. DeMille. Two such films are The Ten
Commandments and The Prince of Egypt. The former, a live action motion picture released in
1956, is DeMille s second iteration of Exodus, while the latter, released in 1998, is a
DreamWorks made animated version of the story. Overall, both films portray Exodus well, though
they add staple Hollywood plot devices in an effort to modernize the four thousand odd year old
story and end up negatively affecting the original story in the process.

worth nearly 300 million dollars. Minkow s personal worth reportedly topped $100 million. He

appearing on Oprah. Minkow s business had been clearly a Ponzi scheme. He promised investors
highly returns on the insurance restorations business, but in reality, investors were being repaid
with money from new investors. Some of the loans were negotiated at outrageous rates of interest
so that they were obtained fast enough to pay off earlier loans. ZZZZ Best did operate its carpet
cleaning business which differed itself from a typical Ponzi and the carpet cleaning division won
high marks for its quality.iii However, its insurance restoration division was totally a phony
department and little real business existed. Fooling the auditors As the company went public, ZZZZ

The Effects Of Forced Migration On The United Nations
In Recent times, migration has become common, and the reason for migration is often access to
better education and the cleaner environment. However, some migration is not by choice. Forced
migration occurs in a less stable region due to the war or environment problem. The term forced
migration refers to those who are compelled to leave their own town or country. This essay will
explain the impacts of forced migration, particularly refugees. The definition of refugee, which is
given by the united nations (as cited in Forced Migration,2011), is someone who has been forced to
leave their country in order to escape war, conflict, or natural disaster. Focus on this definition, it
means the war and the natural disaster are problems which can make refugees. It will focus on adult
mental health, human rightsand child issues.
Initially, one of the issues faced by refugees is mental health. There is a report written by Fazel,
Reed, Brick and Stein, which is published online (2011). They mentioned that the refugee who is
separated from the families are tolerated the damage both from the heart and physical part. Focusing
on this aspect, there are some graphs given in the report, which are about the basic information of
refugee and the mental health condition of them. Basic on the table, it can be found that the refugee

Privatization Of A Capitalist Society
A criminal is easier to deal with when they re found dead. A living criminal must be tried in court
of their peers, provided legal representation, and then must have whatever prison time they
receive if any paid for by the Government. Meanwhile a dead criminal just needs to be
acknowledged then buried. When it comes to dealing with live criminals, a government finds
itself in a position where it must provide for the safety and wellbeing of members of society that
are often ignored, which can be costly and lead to endless legal red tape. Seeking to relieve some
of this burden, The United States quickly leapt at the opportunity to take some of that burden and
deliver it to the private sector, and thus, the private, for profit prisonwas born (Mason). since we
already live and work under the control of the free market, privatization prisons makes sense in a
capitalist society. While this a straightforward and appealing approach, the nature of a prison
system and the duty it must fulfill in society makes such capitalist ideals difficult to implement
effectively as well as dangerous in practice. While not necessarily an abject failure, prison
privatization has been extremely detrimental to American society. The issues caused by private
prisons are multifaceted and complex, but they can be simplified into three main areas: an increase
in recidivism, a decrease in prisoner quality of life, and private influence over the American legal
system. The first, and most apparent

Personal objectives for the next 12 months
There are 3 SMART objectives I want to achieve for the next 12 months that will help me in my
career. First of all, I want to continue learning Mandarin language. I have been trying to learn it
for the past 6 months, however to get the hang of a language requires more time. Still, it is
needed as Chinese speakers are expanding all over the world. I have to the luck to be living
among Chinese speakers, so with effort and willingness I will be able to achieve this objective
and to measure my progress. So I will learn Mandarin day by day, through talking to my friends.
Also, I will take up a Chinese language course right after my graduation, which means June, 2009.
The second objective would be improving my English writing and reading skills. People would
say I must be really bad at English to set up such objective. In my opinion, able to simply read
and write English is not the main point, the importance is how you understand what you read
thoroughly and explain what you think professionally in writing. That what it counts in
workplace, so that would be a realistic idea for me. It is achievable through constant learning and
reading. I have an English teacher as a girlfriend, so she will be the one who measure my progress.
I will buy some books about writing skills, and read as much as I can. This is a basic day to day
learning. I will go back to my hometown at the end of December,

Pologeorgis (2012) states that, essentially globalization began with the exploration and settlement
of new lands. Communication and transportation advances have aided in this process. Two non
Western countries that have been impacted by globalization are India and China. India opened its

Western culture has had an impact on traditional Chinese society. The West s impact can be seen
in the advertisement of Western products, acceptance of Western business, and change of
thought to accept Western ideals. Examples of this include the prevalence of foreign companies
in the country like McDonalds, Nike, and Marriott. A change in ideals was expressed by Jaffe
(2012) who wrote that while living in China she noticed that foreign advertisements often
featured Western models. Curious about this she asked her Chinese friends about it. They
explained that by Chinese standards big eyes, fair skin, and a pronounced nose was thought to
be beautiful. Western influence in China seems to only be influencing major cities with villages
only being influenced by globalization when it is forced upon them like it was during the 2008
Olympics when one town was displaced so that Olympic facilities could be built (Ames, n.d.).
Some would also suggest that the influence of Western media through the use of the internet, or
American media had led to a loss of their traditional language as the people begin to speak chi
English (Chang, n.d.). From all of this is plain to see that globalization can have positive and
negative effects upon a society, but a country that refuses to open its doors to the world face

The united states have had many violent, brutal, and deranged serial killers which have shaped
what we know about murder today, some of the most twisted may have been Herman Webster
Mudgett, better known as H.H Holmes, as well as Gary Ridgway, AKA The Green River Killer.
While both of them are similar in many aspects, in some ways they are worlds apart. H. H
Holmes was born Herman Webster Mudgett in Gilmanton New Hampshire to parents Levi Horton
Mudgett and Theodate Page Price. Holmes was the third child born into his family, youngest of an
older brother named Arthur and an older sister named Mary. Born into an affluent family, Holmes

Holmes later recollected that this event in particular led to his interest in anatomy and led him
pursue a degree at The University of Michigan Medical School in 1884 (Borowski, 2003).
Holmes impulses to experiment with animals did not cease throughout his childhood after those
events. He would discover forest animals close to his home in the neighboring woods, and
dismember them to learn more about their anatomy and physiology. (Bailin, 2008). This didn t
only provide Holmes the knowledge of how to dismember, but it also provided him the
psychological enabler to fuel his delusions. It is quite possible that Holmes obsession with death
may have driven him to murder at the young age of 11, disguising it as an accident. Holmes had a
friend who was older than him named Tom, and they would sometimes hangout. On one particular
occasion, Tom and Holmes were exploring an abandoned home. Holmes recalls during their
exploration, seeing Tom Fall off a landing to his death, but many speculate that Holmes may have

According to them it is especially the pan European transportation and the reliable/value added

digital information exchange through a common platform like a PCS is an important aspect for
the future. Currently the forwarding agents only want to reap the benefits of a PCS but are
unwilling to bear the investments necessary due to high switching barrier from the prior to the

participating freight forwarders in the study by Fenex and Syntens (2010) consider the

by saving time and costs and the decreasing number of mistakes made as described by Burckhardt

The House Of The Scorpions Analysis
Throughout both The House of the Scorpions and On the Doctrine of the Feeling of Power, there
are many differences. These two articles are like comparing apples to broccoli as Mrs. White,
my eighth grade gifted English teacher, puts it. However, once you dig down deeper into the
meaning of these writings, you can find many similarities not easily seen on the surface.
Conceiving of power, as Nietzsche puts it, is more of a deceitful process. Nietzsche s process might
be more for someone who is looked at with little power. In other words, his process is more
intended for power hungry people. I believe that power should be obtained in respect and
harmony. Obviously, my way will take longer to move up the scale of power, but it is the only way
to do it without ending... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way that people use benefiting is, if someone is running for class president or any other
thing that is controlled by the people s vote then the runner might hand out cookies, stickers,
anything the voter will like. They do this in order to get people on their side so they can win the
election against their opponent enemy. Obviously, they are not doing this in a negative way, all
they are thinking about is winning. This shows that sometimes you can be deceitful without
even realizing it. An example of pain is when a parent is punishing their child. The parent hates
this process, but they know it is the best thing to do for their child. All they want is to mature
their child into a well formed human being. As you can see, Nietzsche s ways are used in
everyday life without us even knowing it. As you can see, there are many more similarities than
seen on the surface. Both novels express high levels of power, and how to gain that power. Both
show lots of symbolism. Now you can see why it is better not judge a book or article by its

Clementine Hunter Research Paper
Allison McCoy Humanities 1301 Professor Sears November 11, 2015 Clementine Hunter
Clementine Hunter was born and raised in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was not a slave
although many people thought she was. She lived and worked on the Melrose Plantation where
she taught herself how to paint primitive folk art. She uses mostly oils to paint. She was also
illiterate so she couldn t sign all the bottoms of her paintings. She had a special marking on her
paintings. It was a c and an h . This is seen many ways in her paintings. Sometimes the c is under
the h, sometimes the c is touching the h, and sometimes the c is far away from the h. I think it is
like this because over time she learned the correct placements of letters.... Show more content on

In her painting of Going to Church she has painted the St. Augustine Church which is right
outside of Natchitoches in a small town called Natchez, Louisiana. This church was created by
freed African American slaves in the mid 1900 s. This church was important to her because now
the freed slaves had a place to go to worship. The people would go to church almost every day.
She has every person painted in their best dress and best suits. There is a figure in the painting
that is larger than everyone else and I presume it to be her. Since the painting was painted later, I
assume that she is becoming more comfortable with her paintings and in herself. In this painting,
the c and the h are written more like a normal word. This painting relates to me because everyone
looks so happy going to church which is the way it should be. Most people nowadays go to church
because they feel like they have not, not because they want

Etiquette In The Odyssey
Etiquette is not a term that we do not hear very often but whether or not we do, it is still
incorporated into almost every aspect of our lives. To me, etiquette is the manner in which
something is done, and it should govern the way we do certain things, depending on the task at
hand. It is something like the unspoken rules of society which are procedures to carry out certain
tasks that exist without us being conscious of their existence. Etiquetteis evident everywhere and
even dates back to Ancient Greece. In Homer s Odyssey, when the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena
disguises herself as a family friend and pays a visit to Telemachus, Odysseus s son, it was shown to
be that he greets Athena by shaking her right and taking her spear. That action... Show more content

After I moved to the United States in 2008, we slowly strayed away from this practice. This was
mainly due to it becoming impractical to eat on hardwood floor during the wintertime without
any carpets and when it did get warmer, we were too busy exploring our new environment and
eating out to continue the practice. Eventually, the practice faded away from us. However, a rule
of etiquette for eating for Muslims that my family and I still carry with us to this day is having to
eat with our right hands. This applies to all people no matter whether they are left handed or right
handed. This, unlike eating on the floor, is obligatory for all Muslims. This is enforced because it
was originally constructed so that it may promote peace as well as the absence of violence. This is
similar to the widespread and international etiquette of usually shaking the right hand as it showed
that those who were shaking hands mean no harm or have any intention of using violence in their
meeting. Similarly, the idea of eating with the left hand is related to the usage of violence which
our Prophet Muhammad directly correlates to Shaytaan (or Satan). The enforcing of this is directly
in line with an interpretation of rules of etiquette which states, All rules of etiquette exist to
promote harmony and prevent violence as it is in agreement to the original intent of Prophet
Muhammad, who enforced this

Stephanie Faleski Into The Deep Analysis
Into the Deep by Stephanie Faleski is a naturalistic, oil painting showcased in a simple black
frame, which measures roughly four feet in length and three feet in width. Its frame successfully
manages to serve as an outline for the work without serving as a distraction. On either side of the
painting there are two correspondingly painted ocean scenes. It depicts two sea turtles, each
surrounded by a group of several medium sized fisharound them. Each of the fish, except for the
one directly behind the main turtle which is only half visible, have four fins in view, with their
dorsal fins displaying a separation above their gills. Altogether, there are three separate types of
fish, with two of them both displaying brown stripes, and all three of them are grey in color. The
main thing that distinguishes the different types of fish are their body structures. The fish along
the bottom of the ocean are smaller and oval in shape while the ones above the primary turtle are
larger in size with tail fins that are arrow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making the second turtle less detailed and colorful; along with making the background water
and fish less clear and murky in coloring, Faleski successfully instills an atmospheric perspective.
Gentle blueish white lines are used to separate the squares of the secondary turtle s stomach. Its
skin color is a blueish green hue that helps to further distinguish it from the primary turtle. The one
visible eye of the second turtle is colored completely black without a separation of the pupil and iris.
Looking at this painting instills in one a feeling of an almost serious sort of serenity. With the
dark blue in the background gives the work an almost mysterious undertone, possibly portraying
how life in the ocean is an unknown and often scary ordeal for the creatures that inhabit it. The
viewer is struck with a sense of awe at the simplicity of the overall

The Senior Show is a relatively new concept at Pinecrest High School, where the seniors, and
only seniors, who are part of the theater department produce, direct, cast, and star in a single play
completely by themselves. This year the seniors chose to work on a play called Almost, Maine,
by John Cariani. The show was performed on May 12, beginning at 7:00 pm. It s a scene based
show that shows love in different lights by using the fictional town of Almost, Maine, said Hannah
Bankos. Almost was produced by Britton Phipps and directed by Bankos and Erik Bensen. Phipps

Hakuna Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever

Art, the Individual and Society
HUMANITIES I
Art, The Individual and Society
A Term Paper
13 October 2011
I. INTRODUCTION Art has been around for thousands of years. In fact, different types of craft can
be traced back to prehistoric times when Neanderthal men started painting on the walls of the cave.
Throughout the centuries, art has evolved to several forms among which are sculpting, painting, and
even poetry. Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items in a way that influences
and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of
human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography,
sculpture, and paintings. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

years old. Archaeologists have also found a fragment of rock painting preserved in a limestone
rock shelter in the Kimberley region of North Western Australia, that is dated 40 000 years old.
There are examples of cave paintings all over the world in India, France, Spain, Portugal, China,
Australia, etc. In Western cultures oil painting and watercolor painting have rich and complex
traditions in style and subject matter. In the East, ink and color ink historically predominated the
choice of media with equally rich and complex traditions. Modern and Contemporary Art has
moved away from the historic value of craft and documentation in favour of concept; this led
some to say in the 1960s that painting, as a serious art form, is dead. This has not deterred the
majority of living painters from continuing to practice painting either as whole or part of their
work. The vitality and versatility of painting in the 21st century belies the premature declarations of
its demise. In an epoch characterized by the idea of pluralism, there is no consensus as to a
representative style of the age. Important works of art continue to be made in a wide variety of
styles and aesthetic temperaments, the marketplace being left to judge merit. Among the continuing
and current directions

Naps Beneficial
I do not believe naps during the day are more beneficial to your mind and body. Naps can cause
problems with you being groggy after waking up. Generally people cant take naps because of
distractions and noises. First, reason i do not believe naps are beneficial is because people that
take naps tend to stay groggy for the rest of the day. Normally when you take a nap you sleep
longer than intended which will cause problems when you try to go to bed at night. Generally
people do not need naps during the day unless they were kept up during there nighttime sleep

Dbq Mongol Empire Essay
Throughout history, empires have controlled vast expanses of the world. Yet no empire has ever
impacted the world s like the Mongols. Spanning from present day Russia to Korea, the Mongol
Empire ruled the Eurasian continent. By modern conventions, legacy is the gift or impact someone
leaves when they die. Noah Feldman once said, Empires inevitably fall, and when they do, history
judges them for the legacies they leave behind. Despite committing some of the greatest atrocities in
recorded history, the legacy of the Mongol Empire is also defined by their ingenious military
campaign, their establishment of Pax Mongolica, and their contribution to immense cross cultural

expanded into China and Persia and that during this time, they built canals to improve
communication , sustained agriculture, and allowed and facilitated silk trade and Persian craft
traditions for a long period. Moreover, by establishing peace, they allowed the economy to flourish,
indirectly and directly altering the history of the political world. During this time, they also created
communication systems called Yams. Marco Polo stated that 200,00 horses are stabled at the post

The Literary Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
Girl: A living being limited to a set of instructions
What if you were pre determined how to live your life and there would be a set of instructions
for every little thing you do? Perhaps, the short story Girl , it s all about the set of instructions,
cautions given to a girl by her mother on how to live her life before somewhat 30 years. The short
story Girl , was written by Jamaica Kincaid, that was first published in The New Yorker in 1978.
It is a very short story in which it can be interpreted that has two characters, the mother and the
daughter in which mother is a domain or the main speaker of the story and daughter is the
listener. Daughter just speaks a sentence or two in the whole story. The story Girl shows how a
girl is bound to meet the expectations set by the society on how to be a good woman and a girl is
always likely to be vulnerable to sexuality.
Although the story is only 650 words long, analyzing it from the feminist criticism, it has a very
deep and vast meaning. It has prevailed around 30 years ago, now the society is changing
rapidly and so is the perspective and viewpoint towards the woman. The narrator in this short
story is the girl, who can be assumed to be a girl entering adolescence, it can be said so as she is
been taught how to do all the household work and how to deal with her sexuality. From the very
first line instructions are being given to the girl on how to do the household work Wash the
clothes on Monday... (Kincaid). It shows that females were expected to do all the work in the
house with no doubt and with no questions. They were supposed to do it all by themselves and it
was taught as soon as a girl grows as if they were destined to do that in her life. It can be clearly
said that there was less or no options for girls. By learning the household work and being
perfecting on it, it was believed to be the way to be a good woman or an acceptable woman in
the society. Women were treated like a machine, expected to do the work with a less expectation,
just like the machine needs fuel, oil to work and handled by an operator, in the same way, women
would work with less or no expectation but the acceptability in the society and handled by the
society itself.

The National Reading Panel supports five methods of phonics instruction.
a)Synthetic phonics: Students learn the individual phonemes and then strategies to blend those

important to recognize the time frame given to Don to make his decision. Don needed to make a

Pleasantville And A Clockwork Orange Essay
Pleasantville and A Clockwork orange are both films that have certain things that are abnormal.
Pertaining to Pleasantville it begins in black and white and end to be in color because of being
exposed of certain things. In a Clockwork Orange that is exposed with violence robbery is highly
unusual because it is not something morally right to do. While analyzing both of these movies
they both have certain distortions that can be covered that make their own individually, out of
ordinary, a tad shocking and unsatisfactory, and more to meet the eye. In Pleasantville, disorder
starts to happen slowly as the movie proceeds. While David and Jennifer fight over the remote,
there seems to be some strange guy at the door. This TV guy suddenly gives them a remote and
they are magically in the world of Pleasantville. Pleasantville is a world that would be described
as happy, and perfect, with perfect parents, school, a perfect town, and also with perfect
children. The symbolism here is that everything is in black and white for a reason. The people
of Pleasantville are very unaware of everything else, all they know is about Pleasantville, there
are no books, and not even sex, and even the main streets have no limits. Even Mary Sue, who is
Jennifer, asked her teacher Miss Peters, What s outside of Pleasantville? (Pleasantville Imbd) and
Miss Peters response was The end of main street is just the beginning again). It seems that
Pleasantville only exists to the people of the town.

Take the Time to Read a Book
Leonard Pitts, Jr. says, I am not alone. He continues, There are at least two of us who have
forgotten how to read. He doesn t mean that people have forgotten how to read; rather people have
forgotten how to become one with the text. There is more than one person who feels that
concentration becomes blurred when the text in front of one requires full attention. Short ads and
topics one finds interesting are usually easier to read than intellectual books that are imposed on
one. It s a little funny, isn t it?
I liked this article because I identify myself with it. I often begin reading a paragraph and my brain
begins to move away from what my eyes are reading. The problem is that I don t realize it until I
get to the end of the page. Like Pitts, I have found myself drifting away or unable to sit down to

Cause Of The Civil War
This historical study will define the causes of the Civil War by understanding the divisive nature of
the southern agrarian and northern industrial economies. In the Antebellum era, the South relied
heavily on the production of cash crops, such as cotton and tobacco, that relied heavily on a
plantation economy. Southern plantation owners also relied heavily on slave labor, which
prevented more fluid labor markets from encouraging industrialization. Plantation owners did not
want the advanced agricultural machinery used by northern industries, since the slave trade was
highly profitable system of trade in and unto itself. In the North, the rapid advancement of industry
had a greater mobility in labor markets, since wage labor replaced the slave... Show more content on

More so, it identifies the exponential development of Northern industry, which vastly
outperformed the South of economic output and military power. Of course, the South was
uninterested in developing its own large industrial factories because it challenged the agrarian
reliance on slave labor. This is part of the passage from slavery to contract that was causing so
much strife before the Civil War, which led to open warfare between the North and the South.
These irreconcilable differences were part of the continual rift between the agrarian economy of the
South and the rapidly growing industrial economy during the antebellum era. The industrialization
of the North was part of a diversification of the economy, which slowly abandoned the tenets of
slavery in the late 18th century and into the early 19th century. However, the South continued to
support an increase in slave ownership that eventually became a large scale business in the
agrarian labor markets. These are important causes of the Civil War that relied heavily on the
inability of the North and the South to integrate more cooperative economic relationships as a
result of the conflict of slave labor and voluntary wage labor in the mid 19th

  • 2. Sympathy And Caged Bird Comparison Freedom has been an essence to the American people for many decades. Indeed, because of freedom, America was viewed as an ideal Land of the free by the foreign immigrants, who experienced harsh voyages through sea to reach America. Furthermore, following the call for freedom, the colonists rose in defiance to Great Britain in the War of Independence. In the United States, the image of liberty, of self independence is reflected by many artworks and literary works. Notably, among these artworks, Caged by Maya Angelou and Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar are the typical examples which most obviously express the hope of self independence. Although Caged Bird and Sympathy use the similar literary device caged bird to convey the same message,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reading the poem, one shall firstly say that the tones of both works are obviously the same, for Sympathy and Caged Bird show an alternative order of the tone of melancholy and the tone of delight. For example, in Sympathy, the first stanza from line 1 to 7 gives the readers a feeling of joy because of the serene scene sun is bright, springing grass, river flow, yet the next seven lines conveys the picture of an extreme situation wherein blood is red on the cruel bars, giving the reader a sense of desperation. In the same way, Angelou also repeated the same pattern in her poem, that the readers can find tranquility in orange sun rays where free bird leaps from line 1 6 of the first stanza, but sadness in his narrow cage in the second stanza. Nevertheless, the nuance in both works tones can be inferred in the last stanzas of Sympathy and Caged Bird. Whereas Sympathy is solemn, but hopeful, Caged Bird seems to reflect a relinquishment to the circumstance. Specifically, Dunbar expressed his hope that the bird would be emancipated of his chain and the Black people would live in harmony with the White people to God on Heaven; thus, a spirit of undefeated desire for freedom and a religious voice can be found in Sympathy. (15 21) In contrast, in Caged Bird, the bird s spirit is now defeated by its bar as the African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cult Of Personality Poster Analysis Essay How do the Cult of Personality posters demonstrate elements of Confucianism? Using the Cult of Personality posters as propaganda, Mao depicted himself as a god like figure, but still made efforts to sustain the crucial ruler subject relationship of Confucianism (Chinese Posters). Most of the images include Mao smiling, along with some of his subjects smiling or celebrating. This associates the socialist dictator with happiness in an attempt to form a deep emotional connection with him. Mao uses Filial Piety united with this happiness to demonstrate a need for the respect of his subjects. For example, in one poster, Mao is depicted next to naval soldiers, in which he is the focal point. The men he is speaking to are smiling, but gathered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, they are highlighted stronger in the effects of the event. After encouraging civilians that oppose him to criticize him and speak out, many did. People in positions of influence, such as teachers, denounced Mao and his ideologies (Boyle). This was a ruse in order to seek opposition, and weed them out from the rest of the country, because in a year, Mao s secret police gathered 500,000 people who spoke out of his favor (Saunders). Typically, when a dictator wants to remain in power, they will attempt to dissolve the opposing party, or those who would vote for them. Through the Hundred Flowers, people were eliminated or denounced for the sole reason that they spoke against their leader. Mao took away from them what is thought to be one of the most highly valued right: the freedom of speech. The socialist dictator admitted it as well, claiming, What should our policy be towards non Marxist ideas? As far as unmistakable counter revolutionaries and saboteurs of the socialist cause are concerned, the matter is easy, we simply deprive them of their freedom of speech, (Boyle). With the people who oppose him silenced, he was likely to remain in power, using Hitler s and Stalin s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Meaning Of Islam And Islam The meaning of Islam is submission to one God. The central point or belief in Islam is to believe in the existence of only one God or Allah. The religion revolves around this one belief known as tawhid. This idea occurs in other religions such as Judaism and Christianity. All of these authentic religions speak of the same God as Islamis the reassertion of the revelation of God to Abraham, Noah and Christ. Islam considers these great figures as prophets and they are included in the Quran, the holy book of Islam. Quran which is the word of God says that there are ninety nine names of God which are distributed into Perfection, Majesty, and Beauty. Some of them include: the Just, the Majestic, the Giver of Death, the Victorious, the All Powerful, the All Merciful, the Forgiver and the Generous. The belief in the Oneness of God is very essential as the most basic testifications or shahadas state: There is no god but God (Allah) and Muhammad is the messenger of God. Allah has defined human beings not as sinful but as beings that carry their primordial nature but negligence has made them forget that nature. Islam was sent for remembrance of the knowledge of the One. For this reason, the greatest sin acquired by human beings is not disobedience as said in Christianity but it is shirk which is denying the Oneness of God and taking a partner onto God. God has provided the human race with the intelligence for them to know the One and no forget and shirk is a crime that would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Psych Case Study Paper Megan S Case Study Paper October 21, 2013 Sheldon Cooper is a character in the fictional television show, The Big Bang Theory . Sheldon is extremely knowledgeable and brilliant in the things he knows and is passionate about, but everything else that doesn t interest him, he completely ignores. Sheldon is a theoretical physicist at Caltech, having earned his B.S., M.S., M.A., Ph.D., and Sc.D. He lives with his roommate and Caltech colleague, Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist. Having lived together for 10 years, the two have become best friends. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Penny started to cry when she wasn t understanding anything. When Sheldon asks her why she is crying, she responds, Because I m stupid! to which Sheldon responds, That s no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad. Another example comes from Sheldon feeling like he is deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize. He is having a conversation with a former Peace Prize winner, Dr. Smoot, and says, You won the Nobel prize, what, three years ago? So you must deal with a whole lot of what has Smoot done lately? My thought is we continue my research as team, you know, Cooper Smoot, alphabetical.. When we win the Nobel Prize, you ll be back on top. Dr. Smoot replies saying, With all due respect, Dr. Cooper, are you on crack? to which Sheldon responds, Fine, Smoot Cooper, what a diva! Sheldon doesn t think that what is saying is offensive in anyway, because he is too consumed in himself. Another disorder I would diagnose Sheldon with is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD. People with OCD have the need for everything to be perfect and having to be in control of everything. Someone with OCD also does well with lists and schedules and does not like to stray from them. These characteristics both apply to Sheldon. One thing Sheldon does, that is often seen as comical, is having a roommate agreement with Leonard. • 6. The Psychological Impact Of Bullying In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in. Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our educationsystem we decided to tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action research was to attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is labelled by the Vincentian public as being an unruly school... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the questionnaires. Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine which class bullying cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to find out who has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate the information that we were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires. This was to ensure that the information that was collected from the questionnaires were similar to what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who completed the questionnaires were later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most important as if it is not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is the stage of the research where data is ... It is a quite interesting predicament. like to hear the tale? It begins on a sunny day in summer. Birds were singing flowers were everywhere and the trees of the forest(mostly old huge oak trees)were standing tall and strong. On a hilltop stood a deer. He was so proud of himself stating that he was the sole king of the forest. I am the king of the forest. No one could ever challenge me. the deer said as the animals of the forest gathered around. • 9. Essay on The D.B. Cooper Mystery The D. B. Cooper Mystery On November 27, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, a man claiming to be Dan Cooper bought a ticket for Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 to Seattle, Washington. Dressed in a sharp dark suit with a pearl tiepin, this forty five year old man was about six feet tall with black hair (Abacha and Gilmore 233). No one would suspect him of going down in American history as the only man to ever escape capture after hijacking a U.S. plane (Warchol 1). Soon after takeoff, after having his cigarette, bourbon, and a soda, Cooper handed a note to one of the two stewardesses on the plane (Warchol 1; D.B. Cooper 1). Cooper when the FBI questioned someone with that name, who was found unrelated to the crime (Abacha and Gilmore 234). A few months after Cooper s disappearance, another skyjack, very similar to Cooper s, was carried out by Richard McCoy (Warchol 1). McCoy jumped out of the back of a Boeing 727over Provo, California, with a $500,000 ransom that FBI later found in his home (Warchol 1; Abacha and Gilmore 234). He received a forty five year prison sentence, but he escaped in 1974 by crafting a faux pistol out of dental paste but later died in a shoot out with police (Warchol 1; Abacha and Gilmore 234). In 1995, a man named Duane Weber confessed on his deathbed to his wife, Jo, that he was Dan Cooper. Jo looked up the name and learned of D. B. Cooper who by description looked very much like her husband did when he was young. The FBI compared his fingerprints to the sixty six found on the plane, but none matched (Abacha and Gilmore 234). A woman named Marla Cooper claimed in 2011 that D. B. Cooper was her uncle who had passed away in 1999. Cooper remembers her uncle, L. D. Cooper, coming home bloodied and telling the family that their money problems were over because he had hijacked a plane. She also declared that her father told her shortly before his death that L.D. Cooper had done it (Johnson and Welch). However, L.D. Cooper was eliminated from the suspect list ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Captive Orcas Killer Whales Though often seen as fierce killing machines, Orca whales, more commonly known as killer whales, are much different. In some ways, these mysterious creatures are much like humans. Many people are fascinated by these whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as SeaWorld. What most people don t realize is that the life of these whales is not as great as it may seem. There is much evidence that proves captive life will never be adequate. There is no doubt that life in captivity is no match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors and aggressive tendencies in captivity that do not occur in the wild. In captivity, orcas have been known to show aggressive tendencies resulting in injury and even death. While there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961 are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). • 32. Privatization Of A Capitalist Society A criminal is easier to deal with when they re found dead. A living criminal must be tried in court of their peers, provided legal representation, and then must have whatever prison time they receive if any paid for by the Government. Meanwhile a dead criminal just needs to be acknowledged then buried. When it comes to dealing with live criminals, a government finds itself in a position where it must provide for the safety and wellbeing of members of society that are often ignored, which can be costly and lead to endless legal red tape. Seeking to relieve some of this burden, The United States quickly leapt at the opportunity to take some of that burden and deliver it to the private sector, and thus, the private, for profit prisonwas born (Mason). since we already live and work under the control of the free market, privatization prisons makes sense in a capitalist society. While this a straightforward and appealing approach, the nature of a prison system and the duty it must fulfill in society makes such capitalist ideals difficult to implement effectively as well as dangerous in practice. While not necessarily an abject failure, prison privatization has been extremely detrimental to American society. The issues caused by private prisons are multifaceted and complex, but they can be simplified into three main areas: an increase in recidivism, a decrease in prisoner quality of life, and private influence over the American legal system. Still, it is needed as Chinese speakers are expanding all over the world. I have to the luck to be living among Chinese speakers, so with effort and willingness I will be able to achieve this objective and to measure my progress. So I will learn Mandarin day by day, through talking to my friends. Also, I will take up a Chinese language course right after my graduation, which means June, 2009. The second objective would be improving my English writing and reading skills. People would say I must be really bad at English to set up such objective. In my opinion, able to simply read and write English is not the main point, the importance is how you understand what you read thoroughly and explain what you think professionally in writing. That what it counts in workplace, so that would be a realistic idea for me. It is achievable through constant learning and reading. I have an English teacher as a girlfriend, so she will be the one who measure my progress. I will buy some books about writing skills, and read as much as I can. This is a basic day to day learning. Pologeorgis (2012) states that, essentially globalization began with the exploration and settlement of new lands. Communication and transportation advances have aided in this process. Two non Western countries that have been impacted by globalization are India and China. Western culture has had an impact on traditional Chinese society. The West s impact can be seen in the advertisement of Western products, acceptance of Western business, and change of thought to accept Western ideals. Examples of this include the prevalence of foreign companies in the country like McDonalds, Nike, and Marriott. A change in ideals was expressed by Jaffe (2012) who wrote that while living in China she noticed that foreign advertisements often featured Western models. Curious about this she asked her Chinese friends about it. They explained that by Chinese standards big eyes, fair skin, and a pronounced nose was thought to be beautiful. Western influence in China seems to only be influencing major cities with villages only being influenced by globalization when it is forced upon them like it was during the 2008 Olympics when one town was displaced so that Olympic facilities could be built (Ames, n.d.). Some would also suggest that the influence of Western media through the use of the internet, or American media had led to a loss of their traditional language as the people begin to speak chi English (Chang, n.d.). From all of this is plain to see that globalization can have positive and negative effects upon a society, but a country that refuses to open its doors to the world face economic stagnation and poverty for its people. He would discover forest animals close to his home in the neighboring woods, and dismember them to learn more about their anatomy and physiology. (Bailin, 2008). This didn t only provide Holmes the knowledge of how to dismember, but it also provided him the psychological enabler to fuel his delusions. It is quite possible that Holmes obsession with death may have driven him to murder at the young age of 11, disguising it as an accident. Holmes had a friend who was older than him named Tom, and they would sometimes hangout. On one particular occasion, Tom and Holmes were exploring an abandoned home. Holmes recalls during their exploration, seeing Tom Fall off a landing to his death, but many speculate that Holmes may have pushed him. (Schechter, 2003). It is something like the unspoken rules of society which are procedures to carry out certain tasks that exist without us being conscious of their existence. Etiquetteis evident everywhere and even dates back to Ancient Greece. This was mainly due to it becoming impractical to eat on hardwood floor during the wintertime without any carpets and when it did get warmer, we were too busy exploring our new environment and eating out to continue the practice. Eventually, the practice faded away from us. However, a rule of etiquette for eating for Muslims that my family and I still carry with us to this day is having to eat with our right hands. This applies to all people no matter whether they are left handed or right handed. This, unlike eating on the floor, is obligatory for all Muslims. This is enforced because it was originally constructed so that it may promote peace as well as the absence of violence. This is similar to the widespread and international etiquette of usually shaking the right hand as it showed that those who were shaking hands mean no harm or have any intention of using violence in their meeting. Similarly, the idea of eating with the left hand is related to the usage of violence which our Prophet Muhammad directly correlates to Shaytaan (or Satan). Perhaps, the short story Girl , it s all about the set of instructions, cautions given to a girl by her mother on how to live her life before somewhat 30 years. The short story Girl , was written by Jamaica Kincaid, that was first published in The New Yorker in 1978. It is a very short story in which it can be interpreted that has two characters, the mother and the daughter in which mother is a domain or the main speaker of the story and daughter is the listener. Daughter just speaks a sentence or two in the whole story. The story Girl shows how a girl is bound to meet the expectations set by the society on how to be a good woman and a girl is always likely to be vulnerable to sexuality. Although the story is only 650 words long, analyzing it from the feminist criticism, it has a very deep and vast meaning. It has prevailed around 30 years ago, now the society is changing rapidly and so is the perspective and viewpoint towards the woman. The narrator in this short story is the girl, who can be assumed to be a girl entering adolescence, it can be said so as she is been taught how to do all the household work and how to deal with her sexuality. From the very first line instructions are being given to the girl on how to do the household work Wash the clothes on Monday... (Kincaid). It shows that females were expected to do all the work in the house with no doubt and with no questions. They were supposed to do it all by themselves and it was taught as soon as a girl grows as if they were destined to do that in her life. It can be clearly said that there was less or no options for girls. By learning the household work and being perfecting on it, it was believed to be the way to be a good woman or an acceptable woman in the society. • 53. Don Frohman s Non-Programmed Decision Before I can agree or disagree with Don Frohman s decision to remain open before and after the attacks occurred, there are a many factors to analyze. Prior to the first attack, nothing like this has ever happened previously to Don Frohman, I would assume, so this decision he would make would be a non programmed decision. He would not be able to look back to what other managers had done in a similar situation like he could with a programmed decision. It is also important to recognize the time frame given to Don to make his decision. Don needed to make a decision immediately because there was no sign of when the missile attacks would occur. The only information he could gather was that Iraqi Scud missiles, which may or may not be laden with chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Pleasantville And A Clockwork Orange Essay Pleasantville and A Clockwork orange are both films that have certain things that are abnormal. Pertaining to Pleasantville it begins in black and white and end to be in color because of being exposed of certain things. In a Clockwork Orange that is exposed with violence robbery is highly unusual because it is not something morally right to do. While analyzing both of these movies they both have certain distortions that can be covered that make their own individually, out of ordinary, a tad shocking and unsatisfactory, and more to meet the eye. In Pleasantville, disorder starts to happen slowly as the movie proceeds. While David and Jennifer fight over the remote, there seems to be some strange guy at the door. This TV guy suddenly gives them a remote and they are magically in the world of Pleasantville. Pleasantville is a world that would be described as happy, and perfect, with perfect parents, school, a perfect town, and also with perfect children. The symbolism here is that everything is in black and white for a reason. The people of Pleasantville are very unaware of everything else, all they know is about Pleasantville, there are no books, and not even sex, and even the main streets have no limits. Even Mary Sue, who is Jennifer, asked her teacher Miss Peters, What s outside of Pleasantville? (Pleasantville Imbd) and Miss Peters response was The end of main street is just the beginning again). It seems that Pleasantville only exists to the people of the town. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Leonard Pitts Jr Take the Time to Read a Book Leonard Pitts, Jr. says, I am not alone. He continues, There are at least two of us who have forgotten how to read. He doesn t mean that people have forgotten how to read; rather people have forgotten how to become one with the text. There is more than one person who feels that concentration becomes blurred when the text in front of one requires full attention. Short ads and topics one finds interesting are usually easier to read than intellectual books that are imposed on one. It s a little funny, isn t it? I liked this article because I identify myself with it. I often begin reading a paragraph and my brain begins to move away from what my eyes are reading. The problem is that I don t realize it until I get to the end of the page. Like Pitts, I have found myself drifting away or unable to sit down to read material that my job requires me to study and discuss. I agree with Nicholas Carr s theory, Is Google Making Us Stupid? Carr argues that search engines, blogs, hyperlinks, etc. dump more information that one can possibly read. I agree with that, and I think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember that when I was a child I had to go to the library and spend countless hours searching for the right book. Nowadays, I usually Google for a narrowed list of books on the topic I need to find. I don t think I will stop using Google, at this point I think I d be a fool not to use it. However, I want to achieve the same results Pitts did when he read a paper book titled What happened, by Scott McClellan. Pitts says, It wasn t until somewhere around the third hour that I began to unclench. He is referring to the time when he put himself on a chair that would keep him from distractions. He achieved, once again, submerging in the text. I shall find an uncomfortable chair, turn my phone off, get to that third hour and continue reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Cause Of The Civil War This historical study will define the causes of the Civil War by understanding the divisive nature of the southern agrarian and northern industrial economies. In the Antebellum era, the South relied heavily on the production of cash crops, such as cotton and tobacco, that relied heavily on a plantation economy. Southern plantation owners also relied heavily on slave labor, which prevented more fluid labor markets from encouraging industrialization. Plantation owners did not want the advanced agricultural machinery used by northern industries, since the slave trade was highly profitable system of trade in and unto itself. In the North, the rapid advancement of industry had a greater mobility in labor markets, since wage labor replaced the slave... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More so, it identifies the exponential development of Northern industry, which vastly outperformed the South of economic output and military power. Of course, the South was uninterested in developing its own large industrial factories because it challenged the agrarian reliance on slave labor. This is part of the passage from slavery to contract that was causing so much strife before the Civil War, which led to open warfare between the North and the South. These irreconcilable differences were part of the continual rift between the agrarian economy of the South and the rapidly growing industrial economy during the antebellum era. The industrialization of the North was part of a diversification of the economy, which slowly abandoned the tenets of slavery in the late 18th century and into the early 19th century. However, the South continued to support an increase in slave ownership that eventually became a large scale business in the agrarian labor markets. These are important causes of the Civil War that relied heavily on the inability of the North and the South to integrate more cooperative economic relationships as a result of the conflict of slave labor and voluntary wage labor in the mid 19th ...
