Oppressive and Repressive Social Institutions, Value...
Oppressive and repressive social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour are central to
the horror, science fiction and fantasy genres. Focusing on 1 2 examples of your choice, consider
how these genres mediate the problem of the social. How significant is ideology, as well as genre
theory, to your case study?
This essay will explore the ways in which the horror genre perpetuates repressive and oppressive
social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour surrounding the homosexual subject. It
will be suggested that the generic conventions of horror films sustain repressive understandings of
the normative order which position the homosexual subject as a threatening other . This essay will

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic
conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo
establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster
(1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the
conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or
destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force
ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our
minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was
successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the
restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15).
The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality
can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body
horror and postmodern horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred
boundary between the self and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. In the post

Youth Disengagement Essay
Disengaged Youth and Mainstream school In modern societies, the life experiences of young
people have changed significantly over the past years. These changes have a major affect on
relationships with family and friends, experiences in education, labor market, lifestyle and the
ability to become independent young adults (Furlong Cartmel, 1997). This research paper will
focus on youth disengagement and its relation to mainstream school. Disengaged youth are
individual s aged between 14 24 years old, who are not actively engaged in school or the
workforce (Hanley, Nabi, Bean, Radday Stanzler, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to analyse
youth disengagement and mainstream school and to reflect critically on the impact of the macro
system on the development of series and programs within a rage of communities, using current
research, reports, and theory to be able to make recommendations for practice. Literature Review

Masks, Op. 40 Robert Muczynski Analysis
James Mick Dr. Kodanashvili MUS LIT 5200 Masks, Op. 40 By Robert Muczynski Muczynski
is considered to by many to be one of America s foremost composers of the last few decades, and
while his music seems to be relatively frequently performed, and finds its way into many
competition performances throughout the world, it seems to be hardly discussed. I ll talk a
little about Muczynski and his life, his overall body of works, and then discuss and his Masks
Op. 40 for solo piano. Robert was born to Irene and Stanley Muczynski on 19 March, 1929 , in
Chicago, Illinois. Generally speaking, there seems to be little information available about his early
life. According to his obituary, Muczynski appears to have graduated from the Chopin Elementary
School in Chicago. However, most biographical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His Sonata for Flute and Piano (Top Prize at Concourse Internationale in Nice, France), as well
as three piano trios. Muczynski s concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra also received a
Pulitzer Prize nomination. He also has a number of orchestral works, Muczynski s own take on
musical composition can be gleaned from an article he wrote for American Composer Sketches,
where he states that: [while it is true that] music cannot continue to exist in a vacuum of
sameness and predictability, it is also true that music cannot yield to anarchy. Some people may
consider it fun to hear a typewriter amplified to ear splitting proportions over a P. A. system, but,
really, it is all so cynical. What is so sad is that a number of listeners are willing to endure the
torture, finding this a fresh experience. In that article, he goes on to state that composing for a
mass audience leads only to failure, and that one cannot compose music that will please everyone.
Muczynski s composition style seems rather unique. I believe Walter Simmons details it quite
succinctly in his article on Robert Muczynski from Grove Music

Analysis Of The Movie The Picture
Chapter One
The Picture
Damien awoke to the sound of marching Kill Droids in the street. His head ached and his eyes
were heavy from the all nighter he pulled. It was morning. Sitting up from his mattress on the
floor, he could see the light from his window outlining the corners and details of his room. The
dusty brown walls. Their were cracks and parts of the wall paper were tearing off. The tan carpet
floor and dark stains here and their. He could also see how messy his room was, which was
strange because he s usually quiet tidy. Magazines, notes, and blue prints scattered across the floor.
He could also see the cans of Citrus Acid energy drink around the recycling bin. It was getting full.

His room was even messier than his. Cody s room smelled of musk. Damien maneuvered his way
around all the trash around his floor and stood between Cody and the window.
Cooodyyy, he whispered, I m gonna opened the window.
Noooo. Cody responded.
I m gonna do it.
Noooooo.
Openin the window.
Nooo AHHH!
The room became bright as the window gleamed off the trash and whatever else was on the small
floor.
It s trash day, hurry up and pick up anything that could be recyclable.
I ll get it later.
Get it now, we need to hurry up before the fallout gets full. Just leave it outside your door, I ll get
it when I come back.
Okay. Get dressed if you want to come with me.
Fine, just get out of my room.
Cody was normally a very nice and energetic, except for in the mourning. Cody and Damien
looked very similar aside from their height and skin. They both had dirt brown hair and similar
facial features. Damien had darker tan skin, brown eyes, and neck length messy hair. Cody had
paler skin, blue eyes, and short hair. Damien went back into the tight hallway. He took a deep
breath, thankful to get away from that smell. He went into his cousin Angie s door. Angie was an
adult woman so he didn t want to go into her room. He knocked on the door. It opened to find his
happy and energetic cousin. Angie had always been a morning person. Angie had pale skin,
blonde messy hair, and brown eyes. She was very tall and slim. She greeted him with her deep

Cardiovascular Training And Health And Wellbeing
Cardiovascular Training
Cardiovascular (CV) fitness or endurance is how efficient your body is at taking in oxygen and
putting it to use. The cardiovascular system is comprised of the heart, blood, and blood vessels
through which blood travels around the body. Aerobic exercise is a key element in CV training.
Aerobic simply means with oxygen , this type of activity includes things such as swimming,
dancing, walking, jogging and cycling (Bushman, 2011). Essentially aerobic activities are
exercises where large muscles are moving in a rhythmic way for a sustainable period of time (
Active Adults , 2015).
Benefits of CV Fitness
CV Fitness is an important element in overall health and wellbeing. Adults that are physically
active are healthier than those who are inactive and are less likely to develop many chronic
diseases. Those who follow the guidelines of frequency, intensity, time and type of CV fitness are
at lower risk of premature death, coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and some mental
illnesses ( Active Adults , 2015). It is found that adults who exerciseregularly have hearts that
gradually adapt to the activity rates and the heart increases in strength and size thus improving
CV health. Aerobic activity aids in clearing fatty deposits from the walls of some vessels, this
slows down the process of atherosclerosis (Marieb et al., 2014). Atherosclerosis is basically an
accumulation of fatty deposits in inner linings of some arteries which blocks blood flow

Jacksonville, North Carolina, and the surrounding area is full of military bases. The biggest
base is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) base called Camp Lejeune. Some of the other
bases: Air Station New River (USMC), Camp Geiger (USMC), Air Station Cherry Point, smaller
adjacent posts, and reserve stations (Google, n.d.). Every military personal that separates from
their given branch is required to turn in their individual issue gear. Camp Lejeune s
Consolidated Issue Facility (CIF) states Dirty, cracked, missing or broken gear is the last thing
on the mind of a Marine returning from Iraq (Muth, 2006). This can be a challenging thing for
Marines to accomplish the CIF department at Lejeune explains just one of the challenges that
they face The only thing about cleaning the gear is that Marines are taking the flak jackets apart
and drying them in a dryer. The problem with that is that the outer shell will shrink so it s harder
to get the SAPI (Small Arms Protective Inserts) plates back into them. If you wash it you have to
let the outer shell air dry (Muth, 2006). This causes an extra amount of stress while trying to
transition out of the military. The gear has to be clean, undamaged and the correct generation that
the service member was issued. A private origination that is dedicated to helping with the military

The Insurgency Of Innovative Gadgets Essay
The insurgency of innovative gadgets began another time on January 27, 2010. At that day, Steve
Jobs, at an Apple occasion, made that big appearance and uncovered a standout amongst the most
intense disclosures of his life. Despite the fact that, the Mac had been presented in business sectors
decades prior, and a couple of years after the fact it was trailed by the IPhone, Jobs, at that day and
on a similar stage, underlined that there was a space for another revelation that fit the
classification of gadget which would fill the crevice in the middle of those two gadgets. The new
gadget, keeping in mind the end goal to be existed, must be better at specific errands as well as
fundamentally more effective. It was the iPad. (Ritchi)
Amid the keynote at that day, and as indicated by Steve Jobs, Apple is a Cell phones Company,
alluding to iPad and iPhone as well as toMacBook s, as well. He guarded Apple by saying that it
is the biggest cell phones organization contrasting with Nokia, Samsung, and Sony. He contended
Apple adversaries who demanded that this organization ought to make a note pad in light of the
fact that the MacBook Air, which had been presented two years before, did not number. He said
that netbooks were surly shoddy portable workstations that have low quality showcases with
moderate processors. He likewise portrayed netbooks as they were worse at anything for they were
awkward old PC software.(Ritchi)

Treatment Plan
Introduction Fritscher (2011) postulates that a treatment plan may be formal or it may consist of
informal handwritten notes. This is largely dependent on the documentation required by the
agency or facility and all the other parties involved. However, regardless of its format, Fritscher
(2011) states that the treatment plan should always be subject to change as the case progresses.
According to Vrouvas (2013), a treatment plans can work as a mean of providing clients with
guidelines that may foster moral support, provide incentive and offer practical solutions for
dealing with adversity. This paper will describe a treatment plan and how it will be presented to
the client. The paper will also make specific reference to Brittany.... Show more content on

However, since Brittany s treatment plan was developed in consultation with her, the level of
resistance should be minimal.
Therefore, through formal and informal discussion, the client will be notified of the finalized
treatment plan and specific focus will be placed on the objectives of the plan. It would also be
acceptable to present a written copy of the treatment plan to the client. In any case, a copy of the
treatment plan should always be available upon the client s request.
Conclusion
Conclusively, Brittany s treatment plan will form an agreement between her and the agency and
may be modified periodically to accommodate the needs of the client. This could prove to be quite
empowering for the client. Therefore, the problem or issues should be clearly identified and the
determined objectives should be both measurable and realistic. In addition, all four parts of the
treatment plan should be jointly related and should therefore reduce all confusions,
misunderstandings and misinterpretations. This is necessary, especial as it relates to the client.
Undoubtedly, when the client and the individuals responsible for facilitating the treatment plan
work together cooperatively, it increases the likelihood of a successful process.

Cats Are Best Pets Essay
Garfield opened his eyes to the soft light filtering in through the window. He was king of his

Food Manufactures have Taken Over
Gone were the days when industrialization was the prime origin and a new age of economic boom
in our country. This was a period where factories were established, provision of jobs being vastly
increased for Americans, big machines and buildings built to accommodate and the exploit the
opportunity and moment at hand. Due to this sudden improvement, foodmanufactures being the
primary industry and instrumental in their clever ways; developed a way to profit by reducing
workers, encouraged unsanitary habits and unscrupulous ways which resulted as a disastrous blow
to the public. This bad habit in the food industry (primarily the meat factories) in late 1800s to
early 1900s aroused one of the most controversial novel (expose) The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, and
yet thrilling insight with details as to what was going on in the meat industry. Upton Sinclair
describes the frightful and dangerous working conditions of one meat packing facility in Chicago,
thus far these conditions were common to all facilities which led to laws that changed the bad
patterns of these manufactures. Workers with peculiar diseases in the meat factory had no
alternative, but to work in the poor condition due to the activities and establishments of production
which showed no well being for the employees and as to what they might be going through. The
rise in the economy recommended the young, old, men and women to seek for jobs in the meat
packing industrywhich had a vast employment rate.

Analysis Of Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing
Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing is remarkably different in tone from the other plays
discussed. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice, there are
far fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to modern audiences. The film has much less
violence in it than the others and even its chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright
evil manipulator.
The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard III or Iago, but
Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong movie. He lurks in the
shadows and is not really given a compelling motive for his cruel actions. He does not even enact
the rare few scenes of violence in the film. In a different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain
could ruin the whole production, but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most
important parts are the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite
well.
It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so successful.
Claudio s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and it is quickly followed by a
romantic scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore the tone. It comes across well as a
modern romantic comedy, with just enough darkness to drive the plot forward. To make the film
darker than it has to be would diminish how enjoyable and fun to watch it is.

Obviously, if anyone fails to not wear a seat beltwill be charged a $92 dollar fine or even worse

According to the story, there was a nasty car accident that occurred on the bridge during that
time in which some local students were killed. Now it is said that those who lost their lives in
that horrific crash haunt the bridge, if you visit the bridge at night the sounds of screeching
tires, breaking glass, and oddly enough laughter can be heard. Also, dark, shadowy figures are
said to chase people off the bridge if they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is
often told is called Xanadu. This story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his
friends who attempted to play a prank on him. The young man s friends strung fishing line
across the bridge and waited for the man on the motorcycle to cross. His body ended up crossing
the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated by the fishing line and is now said to haunt
the bridge. In keeping with the legend if the participant goes to the bridge at night and flashes
their headlights three times a motorcycle headlight will appear out of nowhere as well as the
sounds of a motorcycle followed by a man screaming. Many other stories are told about the
bridge, including; a girl hanging herself due to an unrequited love, a young girl getting hit by a
car, an angry farmer chasing people off the bridge with his truck or shooting at them, and like any
good haunted location the bridge is a popular site among Satan

Triangle Theory Of Love
Triangle theory
Robert J. Sternberg, psychologist and Sciences proposed a triangular theory of love that suggests
that there are three components of love: intimacy, passion, and commitment. Different
combinations of these three components result in different types of love. For example, a mixture of
intimacy and commitment results in compassionate love, while a mixture of passion and intimacy
leads to passionate love. Sternberg often said, relationships built on two or more elements are
more enduring than those based upon a single component. Sternberg uses the term consummate
love to describe a combination of intimacy, passion, and commitment. While this type of love is
the strongest and most enduring, Sternberg suggests that this type of love is rare. He wrote that
even as a teenager he was intrigued by the mystery of why some relationships succeed while
others fail. This is why early in his academic career he developed an explanation, which he calls the
triangular theory of love. His theory is based on the observation that love consists of three
components intimacy, passion, and commitment. Different combinations and strengths of those
three ingredients, Sternberg says, produce different kinds of love.
Intimacy is the feelings in a relationship that promote closeness, bonding, and connecting with one
another. Passion is what drives the romance, physical attraction, and sexual consummation in a
loving relationship. Commitment consists of two parts. The first is a

How Does Illegal Immigration Affect Society
There is a massive amount of illegals living in the United States today. More than 11 million
undocumented aliens currently reside in the United States. This number is continuously increasing
because the illegal immigration rate is growing by 700,000 per year (Kane). Large masses of
immigrants who continuously enter the US illegally, in desire for a better lifestyle, cause major
damage and destruction to America. The effects and threats that these illegals impose to the well
being of America and its people is problematic. Illegal immigrationis an issue in American society
because it increases criminal activity, strains governmental programs, and raises unemployment
rates.

This harsh reality of unemployment only hurts the American people and its economy.
Unemployment is defined as an individual who did not have a job but actively sought one in the
past four weeks (Meyers). The millions of illegal aliens who obtain jobs in the US are willing to
work at wages that would be impossible for Americans to make ends meet. These low skilled jobs
have become flooded with illegal workers and ultimately forces millions of Americans into
unemployment. The number of illegal immigrants in the United States totaled 11.3 million in 2014,
outnumbering the 9.6 million Americans who were unemployed in the same year, according to
data from Pew Research Center and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (Meyer). The higher
unemployment rate brought upon illegal laborers hurts the American economy as a whole. As
unemployment rate increase, it negatively affects the economy s debt, taxes and overall growth
because each American citizen that loses a job is no longer able to pay debts or taxes, and thud
spends less ( How does the unemployment rate affect the economy? ). Ultimately, the US economy

The Importance Of Innocence And Experience By William Blake
Innocence and Experience: How William Blake Challenged Society
(More background on Blake here and how he came up with innocence/experience) (https:/
/www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/rschwart/hist255/jkr/romanticism.html) Romanticism was a literary
movement that swept through virtually every country of Europe, the United States, and Latin
America that lasted from about 1750 to 1870. This period included philosophy, art, music, literature.
(https://www.bl.uk/romantics and victorians/articles/the romantics) Romantics believed that men
and women should not be guided by rules placed on them by society but led by warm emotions
that promoted a sense of freedom. William Blake was one of the poets that began the Romantic Age
who promoted self expression but was weighed down by the importance and standards of religion.
Literary work during Romanticism had a strong emphasis in implementing nature, emotion over
logic, imagination over reason, and no division between art and literature. These works placed
focus on human personality affected by political and social causes. These became dominant themes
in romantic poetry which made literature much more complex. In the late eighteenth and
nineteenth century, child labor in England was prominent after the Great Fire of London in 1666.
After this massive fire in London, chimneys had to be built slimmer due to new regulations to
keep the city safer. Chimney sweeping was done by poor boys at ages as young as four after they
were sold.

Theatre In The 21st Century
Theatre in present time is huge and has advanced so much since centuries before our time today.
Theatre is not just something that came about in the 21st century,it has been around for a very
long time. In 1800s England many things took place in the making of productions. Theatre or
otherwise know as drama is a profession of acting, producing, directing, and the writing of plays. It
is also a presentation that is presented in a very dramatic way. One of the main parts that make
up a theatre is the play itself. If you don t have a play and people to act in it,if you don t have
both, then there is no way you can even remotely start. During this time frame there started to be
many women actors, you really started to see more women in theatre than you did men. Some
plays that were in England consisted of, The Half Sisters (Written by Geraldine Jewsbury in the
year (1848). In the year 1858 The Morals of May Fair and Ought We Visit were both written by
Annie Edwards. Florence Marryat wrote the play My Sister the Actress in (1881) as well as
Facing the Footlights in the year (1883). Harriett Jay s play was Through the Stage Door in the
year (1883). William Black s play written was called In Silk Attire which was in the year (1869).
Bertha Buxton wrote the play Jennie of the Princes was written in the year (1876). S.R. wrote
The Play Actress in the year (1894). Mary Angela Dickens play was called Cross Currents. Mary
Ward wrote Miss Bretherton, another playwright by the name Mary Elizabeth Braddon wrote 3
plays. She wrote Dead sea fruit in (1868), Too Bright to Last ,(1871) and Across the Footlights in
the year (1884). ( Irreproachable Women and Patient Workers : The Memoirs of Victorian Leading
Ladies PG.74) All these plays that were written by these playwrights had many women involved in
them. You started to see more women playing a part in theatre, and less of male actors. Even
though you saw more Actress s sometimes people thought differently of women in theatre, and
many actress s faced many hardships in their theatre career. According to Victoria who ascended the

Subject:Availability of Corporate Reorganization
Summary of Facts
Chris and Sue are 50 percent shareholders in BackBone personal service corporation. Backbone
provides chiropractic services in four separate offices, in four small towns: Troy, Union, Vista
and Willow. Chris is the main chiropractor in the Troy office, and Sue heads up the Vista office.
Charlie, the main chiropractor in the Willow office, does not see eye to eye with Chris and Sue
on management styles. Charlie is highly competent and well liked by patients and therefore
indispensable in the eyes of Chris and Sue. Chris and Sue may be willing to give Charlie control
of the Willow office, but do not want to lose the profits this office adds to BackBone. A corporate
reorganization seems to be a good alternative.
Issue and Conclusion
Is corporate reorganization an available option? If so, how should it be structured? What issues
would be associated with this alternative?
Corporate reorganization is definitely an available option. The company should be structured as a
parent subsidiary controlled group. The restructuring should be performed in conformance to any
and all tax saving codes and provisions.
Law and Analysis
With a divisive reorganization, BackBone can split off its Willow office as a new subsidiary
corporation that is controlled by BackBone. By placing Charlie in charge of the newly formed
subsidiary, Charlie

Essay on The Watergate Scandal
June 17, 1972 forever changed both journalism and politics. A simple botched break in marked the
downfall of President Richard Nixon, and the rise to glory of two obscure young Washington Post
journalists: Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. While their investigative journalism revealed the
truth, their questionable methods and ethics have led to these questions; Do the ends justify the
means? Was their behavior ethical and legal? The Watergate Scandal
was a major political scandal
during the Presidency of Nixon. Nixon, paranoid and afraid of losing his reelection, employed men
to do an assortment of illegal activities intended to place the republicans ahead of the democrats in
the election. The activities were not detected until a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During different incidents spaced throughout the investigation of Watergate , all four were
violated by Woodward and Bernstein. The first infringement occurred early during Watergate.
Bernstein was investigating Miami ties to the Watergate burglars and agreed to trade information
(arrests, mental illnesses, history of homosexuality) on a name, for the Dade County, Fl district
attorney s knowledge about the connections (Bernstein Woodward, 1974). It turns out the man
investigated was the DA s opponent in the next election. Bernstein never actually gave the DA
the research; the DA told him he did not need the information anymore. His crime? Plotting with
a prosecutor to investigate a political target (Cook, 2012). Another ethically objectionable
choice was Bernstein illicitly pulling phone and credit card records on Watergate targets (Cook,
2012). He persuaded a source at a telephone company to give him Bernard Baker s (the burglar)

years in prison. Currently, Rupert Murdoch s British newspaper holdings are being destroyed over
similar behavior, and the News of the Earth is gone for illegally accessing voicemails; Bernstein s

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a modulation format that is being used
for many of the latest wireless and telecommunications standards.
OFDM has been adopted in the Wi Fi arena where the standards like 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.11ac
and more. It has also been chosen for the cellular telecommunications standard LTE / LTE A, and in
addition to this it has been adopted by other standards such as WiMAX and many more.
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has also been adopted for a number of broadcast
standards from DAB Digital Radio to the Digital Video Broadcast standards, DVB. It has also

The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier.
The same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the
reciprocal of the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol
period and their contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution.
The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal
OFDM Spectrum
One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any
non linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion.
This will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of
the transmission.
In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such
as OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the
peaks whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the
peaks are limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the
system can rely on the error correction to remove them.
Data on OFDM
The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each
carrier taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. The lower data
rate has

Persuasive Essay On Why Guns Are Bad
Have you ever thought of owning a gun? These weapons are used everyday in combat against
other countries and also by police officers in situations where they feel their life is in danger. We
expect so little from actual citizens when they acquire a weapon, then we wonder why there s such
a high number of murderers and many massacres happening around us,owning a weapon is a great
responsibility especially for those with children for the fact that their has been cases in which
children have died in the past for handling a gunleft in a unsafe place.
Initially, Owning a gun for the sake of our safety and that of our loved ones can be a good reason
as to why someone could own a gun, it essential so when you have someone breaking into your
house or threatening the life of your family, but having this at an unsafe place could be really
tragic for the simplicity that any young kid could see it as a toy and may point it at someone and
accidentally hurt them or even more seriously kill them we as state should enforce a law that if
something like this ever happens we should hold the person which the weapon is registered to
accountable for the accidental deaths caused by their weapon.

Phineas Gage Summary
Imagine your sitting at home watching the news, a reporter talks about a man surviving a three
foot iron pole being blown through his skull and taking a chunk of his brain out. This was an
actual story that happened to a man named Phineas Gage back in 1848, long before modern
neuroscience and medication. Gage was a railroad track builder for the town of Cavendish,
Vermont. While he was working, a man uses dynamite to blow away rocks that are blocking the
way of the railroad tracks. The dynamite goes off to early and sends a tamping iron, a rod used
for beating down earthly substance in tamping for blasting, straight through Gage s head. The rob
goes through his left cheek and his eye, it splits his optic nerve, and then comes out his forehead.
Gage lived through this horrible incident and he s was still able to speak and move around, but he

It amazes me that this man was able to survive such a horrendous experience. I did some research
on what parts of his brain were actually destroyed. The frontal lobes, limbic system, and anything
in between the two were obliterated. As you all know, the frontal lobes deal mostly with receiving
and coordinating messages from other lobes, while the limbic system controls your emotions and
drives(hunger, dominance,etc.). So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely
abolished, but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with
motor control and speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up
with is that limbic system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which
stopped sending messages to the frontal lobe. With the frontal lobe not receiving any messages
from the limbic system, Gages emotions went rampant, going from a really nice guy to a really
not so nice guy. By knowing more about Mr. Gage and what he went through, I now know why he
acted the way he

Editors and views together form a perspective which presents the tooling to the user in an organized

Landolt Iodine Clock Reaction
A clock reaction is a chemical reaction during which one of the chemical species, the clock
chemical, has a low concentration for a certain time before a rapid increase in its concentration
marks the end of the induction period. This accelerated growth can produce effects such as sudden
dramatic colour changes in solution phase reactions (Preece, Billingham King, 1999). The Landolt
Iodine Clock Reaction is a well known example and can be described by the following processes:
IO3 (aq) + 3 HSO3 (aq) в†’ I (aq) + 3 SO42 (aq) + 3 H+(aq) IO3 (aq) + 8 I (aq) + 6 H+(aq) в†’ 3 I3

The work resulting from this branch of science has led to the conclusions that some chemical
reactions proceed in a single step while others such as the Landolt Iodine Clock undergo multiple
phases. By measuring the rate of a reaction it can be determined whether the reaction occurs in one
or more steps (Laidler, 2008). Specifically, the rate of a reaction is the speed at which the reactants
become products, and is affected by multiple factors including temperature, surface area, catalysts
and concentrations; the higher the concentration of a substance, the faster the rate of the reaction
(Science Buddies, 2018). The relationship between the rate of a reaction and the concentration of
the reactants is demonstrated through a rate law. This can be determined experimentally by varying
the concentrations of both KIO3 and

The Poem By Billy Collins
The poem Introduction to Poetry by Billy Collins, is about a teacher explaining to her students
how to read and analyze poetry. Collins employs an abundance of figurative language, especially
metaphors and images, to express the progressive steps taken to understand a poem for all that it
encompasses. When beginning to read a poem, first we must look at the bigger picture, like we are
working from the outside of the poem to the inside. Once we begin to understand the storyline, we
must dive further into the poem, and analyze the types of words being used.. We further investigate
by putting ourselves in the poem. Then, after having looked at the poem from the inside, we must
reread it to realign with the big picture. By using metaphors, imagery, and syntax, Collins
demonstrates how to analyze a poem. In an Introduction to Poetry, the teacher instructs the students
to interpret the poem through close reading, showing them how to draw conclusions about the main
idea. However, the poem is too complex and too difficult for the students to comprehend reading.
The first stanzas of the poem tell the students to look at the bigger picture or key topic in the
poem. By taking apart each metaphor, the students can uncover what the teacher is trying to
instruct, and are able to understand how to read poetry for a full interpretation. In the first simile,
the poem is the tenor, or the subject, and the color slide is the vehicle which elaborates a
comparison. The color slide is a

The BCG matrix is a model developed by Bruce Henderson of the Boston Consulting Group
(NetMBA). The goal of the BCG matrix was to allow fellow marketers to easily analyze a
product, whether it be old, or new, as to how effective it was in that particular market and if the
product was successful in its overall product growth and market share. When it comes to selling
a product, a company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a
piece of the share of consumers. Therefore, in order to be successful, the use of a model such as
the BCG allows a marketer to assess their competitive advantages as well as the ability to calculate
the relative market share. For example, once you have products that have hit the market and have
already established themselves, you can check back and cross examine those products to see which
ones are important to your success as an organization and which ones you should contemplate
scaling back on because these products may be viewed as questionable. According to NetMBA the
BCG matrix contains four key components; the stars, the cash cows, dogs, and question marks. The
stars of the matrix are the go getters. This part of the mix contains your products that continuously
show an increase in growth industry within the market and a high market share. In other words,

What Is Your Hair Essay
I am my hair. A shoulder length pile of sun kissed waves, kinks, and ringlet ends. Breakage, split

uniqueness are woven through each strand. When I realized I had curly hair, everything changed.
At 6 years old, I only had the word poofy to describe my hair. With no time to spare on my

school I learned to apologize because my hair was in the way of those sitting behind me. I did
not look like the White girls with their straight hair, yet I did not look like the Black girls with
their coarser curls and relaxed styles. I learned to view myself through my hair, and since no one
else reflected my image, I never saw myself.
At 10 years old, I got my first chemical blowout granting me bone straight hair (as long as I kept

These Mohawk group of people originally had the right to the land and it was theirs at one point

A Comparison of the Attack on Pearl Harbor and the...
The events of December 7th1941 on Pearl Harbor are ones that along with many others will
forever remain written down as a historic day in not just in history but in naval and military
history as well. In this essay I will first explain and describe the Pearl Harbor attack. I will do that
in the perspective of a male veteran who at the time was stationed at Pearl Harbor as a U.S.
Navy cadet describing the events of that topic to a news anchor for a local newspaper. I also
explain what happened after the attack and explain if there was any possible way to prevent it.
Next, I will transition to playing the role of the news anchor and describe the events of September
11th 2001. I will interview a person who survived that terrorist attack and... Show more content on

Within Five minutes of the attack U.S. military officials had started attacking back at the
Japanese. (Pearl Harbor Film) We were at a disadvantage because the Japanese had destroyed
many of many of our battle ships. But we were not going to let that stop us. We were not going
to give up, just fight until the end. After two hours of fighting long and hard the damaged was
done and the Japanese retreated. In the end we were left with 2,042 casualties and 1,247
wounded (Wikipedia) and defeated. NEWS ANCHOR: Mr. Hankins can you please describe
what happened after the attack was over? NAVY VETERAN: Exactly one day after the attack
the military had regained somewhat of a control over Pearl Harbor. We were already close to
freeing soldiers stuck in turned over ships and wrecked vessels and had the island surrounded by
barbed wire. After a couple of days the a sense of normalcy returned to Pearl Harbor but mainly
everyone was a little paranoid about the unexpected and what could happen at any moment. The
U.S. was also very angry that they had been defeated and wanted revenge. In no time congress
formally declared War on Japan. This war was known as World War Two. It is writing down in
history as one of the most deadly wars of all times. This time the U.S. proved there would be no
chance in hell they would be defeated again. The U.S. invaded Japan and showed no mercy,
attacking them with all their might. The Japanese were

The Four Brothers Research Paper
On the eve of the Renaissance, there were four brothers of wealthy pedigree. Their sundry stories
were as tightly knit as a twilled textile, always aloof with vigor and fraternity, in the small Welsh
hamlet of Cartref. The eldest, named Robert, was the beneficiary of the family estate, a sprawling
sheep farm. He spent his days crutching and herding the livelihood of the brother s elderly parents.
The Second brother, named Frederick, apprenticed a blacksmith, and learned the craft of coercing
iron and steel into tools of production as well as destruction. And the youngest two brothers,
William and Harrison, earned a King s Shilling, bringing home honor, for King and for Country.
These four brothers toiled and worked for the good of the others, ... Show more content on

They sharpened their blades and prepared for an ambush, and when Frederick returned, they
slaughtered him without word. The blades he had forged found home in his torso. Neglecting
remorse and blinded by wealth, the last two brothers ate and drank six meals worth of food
polluted by poison. And failed to awake when the sun had returned. Frederick had taken their lives
in inadvertent revenge. And so they all lied there, as dead as dear Robert, their final wish granted.
Thanks to the leper, they had finally found

Dear Silent Partners Of Chocoholics Anonymous
Dear silent partners of Chocoholics Anonymous,
The purpose of this memo is to discuss the opposing views of shareholders and stakeholders,
evaluating our decision based on multiple ethical principles, focusing on Chocoholics Anonymous
profitability and ethical integrity.
Chocoholics Anonymous has a decline of sales and decrease of profits during the economic
downturn, and so do the other companies in town; and those companies fired employees to save
money which caused a rapidly growing unemployment rate. In order to control the increasing of
unemployment rate, the local economic development group cautioned local firms, in attempts to
lower layoffs, and the internal managers of Chocoholics Anonymous now has a conflict about the
decision to keep or fire a full time manager. By discussing and analyzing the different views of
shareholders (silent partners) and stakeholders (employees), in addition to acknowledging
government recommendations, it will be clear for Chocoholics Anonymous to make an applicable
and ethical decision.
When encountering the decision of Chocoholics Anonymous, silent partners voiced their greatest
concern, which was to guarantee and maximize profits; however, based on current corporate
culture, making decisions using the shareholder s view will be harmful to the company. The silent
partners, who are the shareholders in the company, believe they are most socially responsible when
maximizing profits, for this shares the maximum wealth from their company.

Middle School Students Participating In Competitive Sports
Middle school students competing in competitive sports is a highly debated issue. If I had to
choose, I believe that competitive sports are important to the daily lives of people. Some people
believe that competitive sports is a good way to bring forth your full effort into both sports and
many other things. While others believe that kids shouldn t jeopardize themselves just because
of a practice or a game. Overall, students should be able to compete in competitive sports. One
reason that competitive sports are extremely healthy for kids is that study shows that sports teach
kids to be leaders, learn to play by the rules and also that it s okay to make mistakes. For example,
when someone starts to play basketball but is totally inexperienced while others are totally
experienced, it will teach them to bring their full effort to not fall behind on his/her team. Also in
sports it teaches them life lessons that they are going to be using every single day, like how to
control emotions, being healthy is important, and many more.... Show more content on

Psychoanalytical Criticism of A Good Man Is Hard To Find
A seemingly innocent family vacation can turn into a disaster if the members of the family only
care about themselves. In the story A Good Man Is Hard To Find by Flannery O Connor, a self
absorbed Grandmother, too consumed with her own opinions, fails to address the views, feelings
and overall well being of others. Her family is not much different in their self interested ways. This
leads them straight to the Misfit whose childhood trauma has caused him to grow up into a
damaged individual. The Misfit does not believe in the Grandmother s religious beliefs and she
ultimately cannot reach out and help him. The characters get themselves into a predicament for
living in the Id ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Freud, the unconscious [mind] continues to influence our behavior and experience,
even though we are unaware of these underlying influences (Cherry). So, because of this, he
sacrifices humanity to deal with the pain and thinks nothing of it. Another reason for killing his
father could be he was suffering from the Oedipal Complex. The Misfit says, God never made a
finer woman than my mother (O Connor). The Oedipal Complex would refer that the Misfit has,
fallen in love with one parent and developed hatred for the other (Gill). His desire for his mother
drove him to eliminate his father. Unlike the Grandmother, religion was not a factor for the Misfit.
He thought God, shown everything off balance (O Connor). He believed rationally only what he
could sense. O Connor made this one of the Misfit s greatest faults. To Summarize, the Misfit s
experiences and religious disbelief kept him from being a recognizably good person in O Connor s
eyes. Though the family did not turn to violence like the Misfit, they still had their own set of
issues. The other members of the family seem to be embodiments of society s most self interested
and materialistic. O Connor illustrates that with each generation of this family, there were no
positive role models. Each generation had no effective parent to exhibit the correct way to function
in society. Each generation then was stuck in

The World s Preeminent Sporting Competition
When you think of the Olympics, you most likely think of gymnastics, soccer, swimming, hockey
and many more events. However, very few of the sports that are competed in now existed when
the Olympics first began. They have evolved considerably over the last 3,000 years. First of all,
there were very few events compared to how many there are now. Also, the Olympics went from
only being known in Greece to being the world s preeminent sporting competition. (History.com)
The Olympics can be traced back as far as 776 BC. The games were devoted to the Olympian gods
and took place in Olympia, which according to Greek myths is on the island of Pelops . The first

Some 3,000 athletes (with more than 100 women among them) from 44 nations competed that year,
and for the first time the Games featured a closing ceremony (History). Since then, the Olympics
have been held all over the world including; London, Mexico, Munich, Beijing, Los Angeles and
Vancouver. The Olympics continued to be held every four years until 1994 when the Summer and
Winter Games began to alternate every two years.
In 2004, the Olympics returned to where the modern games began, Athens. These Olympics had a
record number of countries compete in the games. The shotput event that year was held at the
original site of the ancient games in Olympia.
In the ancient Olympic Games, there were only six different events to compete in. The original
events were boxing, pankration, wrestling, running, equestrian and the pentathlon (Top End Sports).
The first event ever held was the stade which is a 192 meter foot race. A cook named Coroebus
won it becoming the first Olympic champion.
According to perseus.tufts.com, boxing in the old Olympics was very different then compared to
now. Perseus.tufts.com says that, Boxers fought without rounds until one man was knocked out, or
admitted he had been beaten. Unlike the modern sport, there was no rule against hitting an
opponent when he was down (Perseus). They didn t have weight classes so you could

The Weimar Republic Failed As A Result Of Many Significant...
The Weimar Republic failed as a result of many significant and underlying factors. The problems
included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great
Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s
first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World
War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of
success for the Weimar Republic.
The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems.
They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the
Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was
made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the
money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the
previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so
paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert
was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge
Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. This is a result of the stab
in the back myth held by many right wing nationalists. On the contrary many Germans believed to

their product s launching time. Because Virgin wants the launch to be successful, they make their

Maggie s Case Study
When evaluating Maggie s situation, it is important to analyse social support networks in the matter
of community connectedness as a protective factor of her health. Many epidemiologists corroborate
that a healthy social network relates to positive health, such as reduced rates of depression.
(Thompson, Teresa. 2014) Social supportcan be delivered by family, friends, teachers, social groups
and many more. Social support aims to educate through advice, information and resources for a
common goal to improve health.
Maggie s story outlines her struggles; giving birth to her Step Father s child at 15 years of age,
resulting in her abandonment by her family, then later experiencing physical and emotional abuse
in her marriage. It is hypothesized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later in Maggie s story, she marries a man who is controlling over her social life (forces her to
stay at home rather than work). His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault
with Maggie. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically
healthy for Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships
have positive effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For
the duration of their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only.
This is not acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie
social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged
Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal
advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups
such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60
women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were related to low self
esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence
related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to
note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in
her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness
has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of
age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. Inherently, the study
summarised lonely people are less happy and satisfied the foundation to depression. ( Mushtaq, R

Understanding Religion Through Kurt Vonnegut s Cat s Cradle
The following is issued as a warning from the author
Kurt Vonnegut to the reader: Any one unable to understand how a useful religion can be founded
on lies will not understand this book either (14). The latter quote is typical of Vonnegut in his usage
of creating a personal narrative. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was born in Indianapolis, like many of his
characters, in 1922. His life from that point on closely resembles the lives of the people in his
satirical novel Cat s Cradle. Vonnegut s mother committed suicide when he was twenty two years
old and in many of his novels the character of the mother is dead. ... Show more content on

There are actually three different writers at work in the story. First and foremost is the author Kurt
Vonnegut. The narrator he creates in his novel is called John, or Jonah as he tells the reader to
refer to him (Vonnegut 1), and he frequently recites passages from
The Books of Bokonon written by a fictional religious guru
Bokonon (Reed 125). All three hold true to a passage from another of Vonnegut s books lies told
for the sake of artistic effect...can be.. the most beguiling forms of truth (Vonnegut Editor s
Note) Though Jonah is most closely linked to representing Vonnegut, Bokonon is the most
interesting character created on the Island of San Lorenzo where most of the book takes place.
By having this central yet elusive character invent a religion openly based on lies, Vonnegut
demonstrates society s blind dependency on religion: I wanted all things To seem to make some
sense, So we all could be happy, yes, Instead of tense. And I made up lies So that they all fit nice,
And I made this sad world A par a dise (Vonnegut 90)
The latter quote describing why Bokonon, christened Lionel
Boyd Johnson on the Island of Tobago in 1891 (Vonnegut 74), invented Bokononism is said to be
found in Bokonon s
Calypsos , or short poems/songs. When Bokonon was

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster (1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. These changes have a major affect on relationships with family and friends, experiences in education, labor market, lifestyle and the ability to become independent young adults (Furlong Cartmel, 1997). Some people may consider it fun to hear a typewriter amplified to ear splitting proportions over a P. A. system, but, really, it is all so cynical. What is so sad is that a number of listeners are willing to endure the torture, finding this a fresh experience. In that article, he goes on to state that composing for a mass audience leads only to failure, and that one cannot compose music that will please everyone. Due to this sudden improvement, foodmanufactures being the primary industry and instrumental in their clever ways; developed a way to profit by reducing workers, encouraged unsanitary habits and unscrupulous ways which resulted as a disastrous blow to the public. • 16. Analysis Of Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing is remarkably different in tone from the other plays discussed. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice, there are far fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to modern audiences. The film has much less violence in it than the others and even its chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright evil manipulator. The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard III or Iago, but Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong movie. He lurks in the shadows and is not really given a compelling motive for his cruel actions. He does not even enact the rare few scenes of violence in the film. In a different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain could ruin the whole production, but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most important parts are the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite well. It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so successful. Claudio s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and it is quickly followed by a romantic scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore the tone. It comes across well as a modern romantic comedy, with just enough darkness to drive the plot forward. To make the film darker than it has to be would diminish how enjoyable and fun to watch it is. The bridge itself was built in 1923, and is located on Gibbs Road in Sylvania, Ohio not too far from the Michigan border. A picture of where exactly the bridge is located can be found in appendix A. Aside from the year it was built, not much else is known about the bridge yet if the legends are consulted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the story, there was a nasty car accident that occurred on the bridge during that time in which some local students were killed. Now it is said that those who lost their lives in that horrific crash haunt the bridge, if you visit the bridge at night the sounds of screeching tires, breaking glass, and oddly enough laughter can be heard. Also, dark, shadowy figures are said to chase people off the bridge if they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is often told is called Xanadu. This story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his friends who attempted to play a prank on him. The young man s friends strung fishing line across the bridge and waited for the man on the motorcycle to cross. His body ended up crossing the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated by the fishing line and is now said to haunt the bridge. In keeping with the legend if the participant goes to the bridge at night and flashes their headlights three times a motorcycle headlight will appear out of nowhere as well as the sounds of a motorcycle followed by a man screaming. Many other stories are told about the bridge, including; a girl hanging herself due to an unrequited love, a young girl getting hit by a car, an angry farmer chasing people off the bridge with his truck or shooting at them, and like any good haunted location the bridge is a popular site among Satan ... • 21. Triangle Theory Of Love Triangle theory Robert J. Sternberg, psychologist and Sciences proposed a triangular theory of love that suggests that there are three components of love: intimacy, passion, and commitment. Different combinations of these three components result in different types of love. For example, a mixture of intimacy and commitment results in compassionate love, while a mixture of passion and intimacy leads to passionate love. Sternberg often said, relationships built on two or more elements are more enduring than those based upon a single component. Sternberg uses the term consummate love to describe a combination of intimacy, passion, and commitment. While this type of love is the strongest and most enduring, Sternberg suggests that this type of love is rare. He wrote that even as a teenager he was intrigued by the mystery of why some relationships succeed while others fail. This is why early in his academic career he developed an explanation, which he calls the triangular theory of love. His theory is based on the observation that love consists of three components intimacy, passion, and commitment. Different combinations and strengths of those three ingredients, Sternberg says, produce different kinds of love. Intimacy is the feelings in a relationship that promote closeness, bonding, and connecting with one another. Passion is what drives the romance, physical attraction, and sexual consummation in a loving relationship. Commitment consists of two parts. The first is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary work during Romanticism had a strong emphasis in implementing nature, emotion over logic, imagination over reason, and no division between art and literature. These works placed focus on human personality affected by political and social causes. These became dominant themes in romantic poetry which made literature much more complex. The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier. The same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the reciprocal of the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol period and their contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution. The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal OFDM Spectrum One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any non linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion. This will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of the transmission. In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such as OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the peaks whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the peaks are limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the system can rely on the error correction to remove them. Data on OFDM The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each carrier taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely abolished, but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with motor control and speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up with is that limbic system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which stopped sending messages to the frontal lobe. Landolt Iodine Clock Reaction A clock reaction is a chemical reaction during which one of the chemical species, the clock chemical, has a low concentration for a certain time before a rapid increase in its concentration marks the end of the induction period. This accelerated growth can produce effects such as sudden dramatic colour changes in solution phase reactions (Preece, Billingham King, 1999). The Landolt Iodine Clock Reaction is a well known example and can be described by the following processes: IO3 (aq) + 3 HSO3 (aq) в†’ I (aq) + 3 SO42 (aq) + 3 H+(aq) IO3 (aq) + 8 I (aq) + 6 H+(aq) в†’ 3 I3 (aq) + 3 H2O(l) I3 (aq) + HSO3 (aq) + H2O(l) в†’ 3 I (aq) + SO42 (aq) + 3 H+(aq) 2 I3 (aq) + starch в†’ starch blue I5 (aq) + I (aq) For the above mechanism, the overall reaction is: 2 IO3 (aq) + 3 I (aq) + 4 HSO3 (aq) в†’ starch blue I5 (aq) + 2 H2O(l) + 4 SO42 (aq) This equation represents the conversion of the reactants Potassium Iodate (KIO3) and Sodium Bisulphite (NaHSO3) into the products of water, sulphate,... Collins employs an abundance of figurative language, especially metaphors and images, to express the progressive steps taken to understand a poem for all that it encompasses. When beginning to read a poem, first we must look at the bigger picture, like we are working from the outside of the poem to the inside. Once we begin to understand the storyline, we must dive further into the poem, and analyze the types of words being used.. We further investigate by putting ourselves in the poem. Then, after having looked at the poem from the inside, we must reread it to realign with the big picture. By using metaphors, imagery, and syntax, Collins demonstrates how to analyze a poem. In an Introduction to Poetry, the teacher instructs the students to interpret the poem through close reading, showing them how to draw conclusions about the main idea. However, the poem is too complex and too difficult for the students to comprehend reading. The first stanzas of the poem tell the students to look at the bigger picture or key topic in the poem. When it comes to selling a product, a company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a piece of the share of consumers. The events of December 7th1941 on Pearl Harbor are ones that along with many others will forever remain written down as a historic day in not just in history but in naval and military history as well. In this essay I will first explain and describe the Pearl Harbor attack. I will do that in the perspective of a male veteran who at the time was stationed at Pearl Harbor as a U.S. Navy cadet describing the events of that topic to a news anchor for a local newspaper. I also explain what happened after the attack and explain if there was any possible way to prevent it. Next, I will transition to playing the role of the news anchor and describe the events of September 11th 2001. I will interview a person who survived that terrorist attack and... (Pearl Harbor Film) We were at a disadvantage because the Japanese had destroyed many of many of our battle ships. But we were not going to let that stop us. We were not going to give up, just fight until the end. After two hours of fighting long and hard the damaged was done and the Japanese retreated. In the end we were left with 2,042 casualties and 1,247 wounded (Wikipedia) and defeated. NEWS ANCHOR: Mr. Hankins can you please describe what happened after the attack was over? NAVY VETERAN: Exactly one day after the attack the military had regained somewhat of a control over Pearl Harbor. We were already close to freeing soldiers stuck in turned over ships and wrecked vessels and had the island surrounded by barbed wire. After a couple of days the a sense of normalcy returned to Pearl Harbor but mainly everyone was a little paranoid about the unexpected and what could happen at any moment. The U.S. was also very angry that they had been defeated and wanted revenge. In no time congress formally declared War on Japan. This war was known as World War Two. It is writing down in history as one of the most deadly wars of all times. This time the U.S. proved there would be no chance in hell they would be defeated again. • 40. The Four Brothers Research Paper On the eve of the Renaissance, there were four brothers of wealthy pedigree. Their sundry stories were as tightly knit as a twilled textile, always aloof with vigor and fraternity, in the small Welsh hamlet of Cartref. The eldest, named Robert, was the beneficiary of the family estate, a sprawling sheep farm. He spent his days crutching and herding the livelihood of the brother s elderly parents. The Second brother, named Frederick, apprenticed a blacksmith, and learned the craft of coercing iron and steel into tools of production as well as destruction. And the youngest two brothers, William and Harrison, earned a King s Shilling, bringing home honor, for King and for Country. These four brothers toiled and worked for the good of the others, ... Middle School Students Participating In Competitive Sports Middle school students competing in competitive sports is a highly debated issue. If I had to choose, I believe that competitive sports are important to the daily lives of people. Some people believe that competitive sports is a good way to bring forth your full effort into both sports and many other things. While others believe that kids shouldn t jeopardize themselves just because of a practice or a game. Overall, students should be able to compete in competitive sports. One reason that competitive sports are extremely healthy for kids is that study shows that sports teach kids to be leaders, learn to play by the rules and also that it s okay to make mistakes. For example, when someone starts to play basketball but is totally inexperienced while others are totally experienced, it will teach them to bring their full effort to not fall behind on his/her team. Also in sports it teaches them life lessons that they are going to be using every single day, like how to control emotions, being healthy is important, and many more.... Psychoanalytical Criticism of “a Good Man Is Hard to Find” Psychoanalytical Criticism of A Good Man Is Hard To Find A seemingly innocent family vacation can turn into a disaster if the members of the family only care about themselves. In the story A Good Man Is Hard To Find by Flannery O Connor, a self absorbed Grandmother, too consumed with her own opinions, fails to address the views, feelings and overall well being of others. Her family is not much different in their self interested ways. This leads them straight to the Misfit whose childhood trauma has caused him to grow up into a damaged individual. The Misfit does not believe in the Grandmother s religious beliefs and she ultimately cannot reach out and help him. The characters get themselves into a predicament for living in the Id ... According to Freud, the unconscious [mind] continues to influence our behavior and experience, even though we are unaware of these underlying influences (Cherry). So, because of this, he sacrifices humanity to deal with the pain and thinks nothing of it. Another reason for killing his father could be he was suffering from the Oedipal Complex. The Misfit says, God never made a finer woman than my mother (O Connor). The Oedipal Complex would refer that the Misfit has, fallen in love with one parent and developed hatred for the other (Gill). His desire for his mother drove him to eliminate his father. Unlike the Grandmother, religion was not a factor for the Misfit. He thought God, shown everything off balance (O Connor). He believed rationally only what he could sense. O Connor made this one of the Misfit s greatest faults. To Summarize, the Misfit s experiences and religious disbelief kept him from being a recognizably good person in O Connor s eyes. Though the family did not turn to violence like the Misfit, they still had their own set of issues. The other members of the family seem to be embodiments of society s most self interested and materialistic. O Connor illustrates that with each generation of this family, there were no positive role models. Each generation had no effective parent to exhibit the correct way to function in society. The problems included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of success for the Weimar Republic. The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems. They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. This is a result of the stab in the back myth held by many right wing nationalists. On the contrary many Germans believed to get the country back on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault with Maggie. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically healthy for Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For the duration of their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only. This is not acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60 women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were related to low self esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. Understanding Religion Through Kurt Vonnegut s Cat s Cradle The following is issued as a warning from the author Kurt Vonnegut to the reader: Any one unable to understand how a useful religion can be founded on lies will not understand this book either (14). The latter quote is typical of Vonnegut in his usage of creating a personal narrative. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was born in Indianapolis, like many of his characters, in 1922.
