2. Eating Nuts Research
Bogus Science Everyone wants to live longer, but the lengths that people will go is outrageous.
People are so desperate to fight the inevitable that they are willing to fall for bogus scientific claims.
One of these cases is Eating nuts linked to healthier, longer life , an article written by the Harvard
Medical School. This article claims that eating nuts will increase your life expectancy, but is that
really the case? Foremost, to determine if this article is relaying truthful information we need to
look at the scientific method. When examining the research, found in the New England Journal of
Medicine, the experiment is looking for a relationship between nut consumption and mortality rate.
The hypothesis is that consuming nuts will

3. The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell
It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell
discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in
The Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The
Monomyth . Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a
mythologist and spent a large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth,
also known as The Heros Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each
phase of his journey. Joseph Campbellwas partially inspired by Carl Jung s theory of Archetypes ;

This could be a long duration of time passing or this could also be a brief moment of hesitation

of leaving their known realm, which can offput them from the given journey. Campbell explains
this as the refusal is essentially a refusal to give up what one takes to be one s own interest (59).
At this point in the journey, The hero has not yet fully committed to the journey and may still be

This article looks at the issues of crowd disorder, sometimes referred to as football hooliganism as
stated by (Dunning et al.,1988 Scott and Pearson 2007). (Marsh et al.,1996) quotes that the
phenomenon that is football hooliganism has been over researched over the years, but this article
looks at different points of views of hooliganismit has results of many different ethnographic studies
that took place between 1995 and 2010. The research was undertaken by different authors and
involved five in depth longitudinal studies with fans from Liverpool, Everton, Manchester united,
Cardiff city and Blackpool and also the England national team. The first author s research included

Even though academic research has developed greatly and during this time the line between fan
and hooligan has been challenged many of times but people still have their traditional view. For
example Edge in 1997 says that hooligans are a cancer and an unwelcome infiltration in the ranks
of us true fans (Edge 1997:15). Williams in 2001 supports that by edge and also adds that many
fans did not attend matches during the perceived height of hooliganism due to their fear of
violence. Despite these statements this paper argues that this does not reflect the opinion of many
other fans. An interview that took place in Liverpool November 2004 one fans says commentators
on the subject of hooliganism do not tell you what fans really think. (Interview, Liverpool,
November 9th 2004). However in this Hayley and Johnston in 1998 examine how violence can help
a hooligan for example gaining a status such as a true nutter in football (Hayley and Johnston,
1998) and Poulton in 2003 says that many hooligans enjoy notoriety. (Poulton, 2003:19). None of
these statement question fans though they are both just assumptions made by people. The research
in this article says that most fans that were interviewed refused to condemn hooliganism but they
had positive attitudes for it. But overall this does not say that all the fans that were interviewed in
this study agreed with hooliganism, some fans complained about hooliganism ruining the game for
them and

5. Related Injuries In Hockey Essay
Hockey Related Injuries
Hockey is a demanding sport that not only requires teamwork but also speed and power. As a
result of this many players are at risk for severe injuries during their playing career. Although many
of the injuries happen on accident most of them can be avoided. The chance of obtaining an injury
in hockey is heightened because it is a physical contact sport. There s checking and tripping and
fights that break out. The players are also on a slippery surface that s equivalent to falling on
cement. With all of this in mind there is no doubt that a hockey player will experience some sort of
injury during their time playing. Some of the most common hockey related injuries are concussion,
back injuries, and knee injuries.
To begin with the chance of getting injured during a hockey game is dependent on a multitude of
things. The players position is an important thing when it comes to injury, some players
experience more physical contact than others. The protective equipment is also a must have. The
gloves are so large because they have to protect the hands from the cold and from being hit with
the hockey stick. Without gloves it would be very easy to break fingers. The amount of violent
behavior in a game also changes how prevalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medial collateral ligament is most susceptible to a sprain because of the leg position
pushing off the inside edge of the skate blade and contact to the outside of the knee. (Hardin)
Another form of knee injury that hockey players experience is the tearing of the ACL, they
happen quite often but are not as common as they are in other sports such as football, soccer, and
basketball. The game is very hard on the knees because of the balance the skates force a player to
maintain. The rising and falling of a player onto their knees during a game is very harmful to the
joints and ligaments that make up the knee

6. Body Dysmorphic Disorder Analysis
The popular conception of anorexia involves glamorous celebrities and supermodels, teen girls
and magazines, and is nothing like the reality of hospitals, hair loss, and, oftentimes, death.
Anorexia nervosa is the deadliest of all psychiatric illnesses and cuts across racial, age, and
gender backgrounds. The image of the white teen girl munching on ice cubes is only part of the
picture of a serious, complex, and very misunderstood disorder. When I was in high school, my
best friend Kylie* changed drastically. Her sense of style shifted and she started wearing brightly
colored sweatshirts and hair extensions. She also got her driver s license before the rest of us and

This notion, however, has been viewed as more antiquated in recent years, and the etiological
perception of the disorder has become a lot more nuanced. An individual s environment and social
status are perhaps more revealing risk factors than race and gender themselves. Social
communities that value thinness, such as career fields like modeling and wrestling, are specific
causal factors. Peer and family influences also contribute a great deal to disordered eating patterns.
A mother obsessed with beauty can enforce a social expectation for thinness even more completely.
Changing standards of beauty, from a Rubenesque Venus to a waifish Twiggy, have also been cited
as causal factors. The idea that society causes anorexia is powerful, but much to simplistic to fully
explain the steady increase in cases of anorexia throughout the 20th

7. Causes of the Downfall of Mughal Empire
CAUSES OF THE DOWNFALL OF MUGHAL EMPIRE BACKGROUND The downfall of the
mughal empire can be attributed to two major factors: 1) Weaknesses of the mughals 2) Strength
of the East India Company. The Mughal Empire, which had reached its zenith during the rule of
Shah Jahan and his son, began to decline after the rule of Aurangzeb. In fact, the decline began
during the last days of Aurangzeb. The Mughal Empire reached its greatest extent in the time of
Aurangzeb Alamgir, but it collapsed with dramatic suddenness within a few decades after his
death. The Mughal Empire owes its decline and ultimate downfall to a combination of factors. The

Absence of navy: The Mughals had no navy and only maintained small ships that were no match
for the well equipped ships of the foreign traders. It was this weakness that the French and the
British used to their advantage, and were eventually able to establish their control over India.
Rise of New Powers: New powers such as the Sikhs, Jats and Marathas came onto the scene.
Gradually they broke off from the Mughal domination and established their own independent
states. Foreign Invasions: The invasions of Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Abdali proved fatal for
the Mughal Empire. Not only were the Indians defeated but their weakness was exposed and
India became as easy prey to other foreign powers too.The weakened Mughal Empire invited
havoc in the form of the Persian king Nadir Shah, in 1738 39. On his orders a general massacre of
the citizens of Delhi was carried out, resulting in the death of 30,000 people. Another threat to the
Mughal Empire came from the Afghans of Rohilkhand, lying northeast of Delhi. By the middle of
18th century, the Rohillas became independent of the Mughal rule. At the same time the Jats also
raised their heads against the central rule. Punjab: Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru, had

Standardized Tests Are Insufficient
*No Works Cited
Anyone involved in education should be concerned about how overemphasis on the SAT is
distorting educational priorities and practices, how the test is perceived by many as unfair, and
how it can have a devastating impact on the self esteem and aspirations of young students, said
University of California President Richard C. Atkinson in a speech he gives to the American
Council on Education in Washington, D.C.
I really didn t enjoy taking the SATs. SATI cannot represent the individual knowledge of one
particular test taker, because the tests have been dissected in many prep classes, designed to

We should consider testing students on a broader range of topics, lending more insight to a student
s versatility. To base one student s potential solely based on one standardized testis both wrong and
lazy. Colleges should be willing to examine applicants closely. They need to understand that if a
high school senior has a 4.0 GPA and happened to get a 1050 on their SAT, they re not necessarily
incapable of learning. Looking at both class rank and GPA provides a more balanced picture, hence
it would increase the diversity of students entering college.
Doing away with SAT scores could increase opportunities for those students who do not score well
on formal tests to get into colleges, that they would not have normally.
The University of California regents are in the process of trying to decide whether or not to drop
the SAT as an admission requirement. Atkinson, whose field of expertise is testing and cognitive
science, is putting his support behind the idea of doing away with the test as a gauge of whether or
not students should be able to get into one of California s state colleges.
Atkinson feels the universities should adopt a more holistic way of judging incoming students. The
idea comes from the long standing belief that the SAT is unfair to minority students. Right now,
about 90 percent of the nation s colleges use the SAT as a means to make admissions decisions,

10. Evaluation Of A Company s Plans For A Specified Future...
According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified
future time period, expressed in financial terms. An effective budget gives a company command
and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic and
organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such
as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations.
The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against
which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures.
Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget
anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers
calculate revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the
budget arrives, the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the
department s performance.
Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and
bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation
of the power plant was limited by the supply of natural gas. A carefully developed budget will
always consider capacity constraints. Managers can learn well in advance of looming production
and distribution bottlenecks.

11. The Pros And Cons Of Zygomatic Dental Implants
Dr. Irfan Atcha is offering an innovative procedure one that does not involve bone transplants to end
the struggles of chronic denture patients. The procedure, which utilizes Zygomatic dental implants,
will provide new teeth to patients who could not wear implant supported teeth on their upper jaw
due to the lack of supportive bone. According to Dr. Atcha, these new alternatives allow him to
fabricate either a removable or fixed implant supported set of teeth.
Treating the completely edentulous upper jaw with fixed implant supported teeth has always been
difficult, especially if it is suffering from moderate to severe bone loss. One procedure that has
long been available is the use of bone transplant or bone grafting, usually from the patient s skull,
hip, jaw or skin, to supply the missing bone in the upper jaw. Because this requires a second ...

wearing removable denture prosthesis, which sometimes causes difficulty with speech and

Aside from the shorter duration of the treatment, the Zygomatic implant technique also has a
success rate of 97% after five years, according to scientific studies. Dr. Atcha recommends this
procedure to patients, especially those who are dissatisfied with their upper removable denture,
since this will give them the opportunity to experience the biomechanics of their natural teeth again.
Additionally, it will provide them with a proper biting force for chewing.

Chivalry
Chivalry, as defined by Encyclopedia Americana is a system of values and ideals of conduct held
by knights in medieval Europe. In its institutional form, chivalry was an informal, international
order to which many, but not all, of the ruling class (nobility) belonged. The word is derived from
the Latin caballus (horse) through the French chevalier ( horseman or knight). Chivalry was born
from Feudalism in the late middle ages introducing a new, feminine point of view stressing virtue
and ethics. It was a time of renewal and need. There were new towns and cities of trade
everywhere, thus creating the need to travel. However, in order to travel there must be someone left

One of the most influential women of medieval times was Eleanor of Aquitane. She greatly
contributed to the growth of Chivalry and Courtly Love. She was married several times, first to
King Louis VII of France and then to King Henry II of England. Her travels allowed her to be
influential to both countries. Even before her marriages she owned great amounts of land,
making her very powerful. This was a rarity for a woman in her time and she was not afraid to
use her power to gain advantage. She at one time accompanied her first husband, Louis VII, on
his second Crusade contrary to what the church (ruling government at the time) said. Poets
received encouragement from Eleanor to write poems and sonnets from a womans point of
view, this was also unheard of before the late Middle Ages. During her marriages, there were
rumors of affairs had by the Great Queen . Along with her plans to lead her sons in a rebellion
against their father, these rumors were enough to cause Henry II to lock Eleanor away as a
punishment until the time of his death. During the reign of her son King Richard, Eleanor started
the Courts of Love which contributed to giving women a higher standing in society. The Courts of
Love were a gathering of enthusiastic young women who debated and ridiculed the ideals of love
presented to them by poets and knights of the court.

Blood Glucose Levels
Purpose of Homeostatic System
Homeostasis refers to the ability of the body being able to seek and maintain a constant condition of
equilibrium or stability within their internal environment when it must deal with external changes
(fluctuations in their environment.) External influences may include exposure to extreme
environmental conditions, disease or infection. Internal influences may include genetic conditions

Components of The System
The stimulus, receptor, control centre, effector and variable are all key components of the
Homeostatic System.
High Blood Glucose Levels
The stimulus is a detectable change in the internal or external environment in particular for high
blood glucose levels this may be when person consumes a carbohydrate rich meal, therefore the
blood glucose level will rise. The variable is the amount of glucose in blood ( 5mM) The set

General Eisenhower and General Patton:
A Comparison
Zerrrouk (PN)
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to
a General with a lighthearted mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and
decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on
the same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different
Generals. This paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by
taking a close look at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.

For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton
could not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should
represent. Patton believes that courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training
and discipline, and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his
men, but he didn t want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or
neurosis, but as a spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him
emotional and he state once that, They re the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One
day I bawl the hell out of them and the next I weep over them.
Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American
army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton
had in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to
Rennes, and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a
step ahead of everyone especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move
from Saar and attack General Von Rundstedt which was deemed impossible by others but not
Patton. After Rundstedt was captured, Rundstedt gave a high praise to Patton for his

Case Analysis: Leading Change At Simmons Problem Identification
In the case Leading Change at Simmons , the fundamental issue for Simmons Company is
whether or not it should go ahead with Eitel s proposed idea of a culture change program which
would cost $7.2 million at a time where the company is encompassed in a myriad of problems and
severe economic crises . The program has had initial success but its future profitability still remains
largely uncertain due to high levels of stress and resistance to change found amongst the company s
employees.

To overcome this resistance to change, it is essential that Eitel form positive relationships with his
workers along with good support and commitment. He could do this by encouraging better
communication in the company and educating the management about his plan by communicating
the logic of his proposed changes. If the employees see the full facts and solve the
misunderstandings, resistance should subside. This can be done by allowing the employees to
develop and form the plans to introduce changes with him which would allow for enhanced
participation and acceptance of the change as the employees would have a sense of ownership in
the change made which will make it much easier for them to conform once everyone is on board
for the decision. Eitel should also make sure that all changes are fair to everyone and do not come
of as being biased which could create discrepancies among the workers.
Other than that, he should focus on activities such as intergroup development, which seeks to
change the groups attitudes, stereotypes and perceptions about each other through training sessions,
which focus on differences among occupations, departments, or divisions within an organization.

UNIX based operating systems are very popular, and they are being used everywhere from

programmers use Mac OS as their operating system, and 21.7% use Linux as their operating

using a UNIX based operating system build a certain set of skill sets, such as experience in using a

perform simple tasks fast enough could have a significant effect on the programmer s work and the

between university and working at a technology firm smoother, and help students build a skill set
that will be useful in the future. Background Many companies are switching from Windows to

LEAN MANUFACTURING
Origins of Lean Lean originally originated from Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) (McCarthy,
2015) in the early 1900 s however it wasn t until the Toyota family introduced the Toyota Production
System (TPS) into their company manufacturing operations that it began to gain recognition. In the
1950 s, Toyota first implemented quality measures within the production lines process and hence
the initial stages of continuous improvement. Taiichi Ono, who was the executive vice president,
developed and implemented the renowned Toyota Production System (TPS) after the Second
World War as a means of producing a highly effective and efficient manufacturing line for their
products. Ono took great inspiration from Henry Ford s early lean concepts and applied it to meet
the demand of their own Japanese market. This built the seeds of TPS, which today is better known
as lean manufacturing (Womack Jones, 1996). Nowadays, Lean is used globally throughout
industry in all different sizes of enterprises that can depend on the successful implementation of
Lean. (Herron, 2008). Toyota s success as one of the world s largest automotive manufacturers and
leading Lean implementers stands as proof of Leans merits. (Institite, 2000 2016). This has led to
enormous demand for knowledge on leans tools and techniques as companies continue to have
success with its implementation.

they performed the task of sitting around, talking, and laughing very well. The females in the

other hand, the males in the group seemed to have a problem with memory skills. While watching
Group B, the male with the pink T shirt started doing push up and shortly after the male with the

Framework, which basically consists of two parts: the Framework Class Library and Common
Language Runtime. Now let us explore these two parts of .NET Framework. Framework Class
Library The .NET Framework contains of thousands of classes which you can use while
building an application. Framework Class Library was designed to basically make it easier to
perform the most common programming tasks. Following are just a few examples about the
classes in the framework: File class Enables you to represent a file on your hard disk. You can
use the File class to check whether a file exists or not, create a new file, delete a existing file, and
perform many other file related operations. Graphics class Enables you to work with different
types of images like GIF,PNG, BMP, and JPEG. You can use the Graphics class to draw various
shapes like rectangles, arcs, ellipses, and other elements on an image. Random class Enables you to
generate a new random number. SmtpClient class Enables you to send an email. You can use the
SmtpClient class to send emails that contain attachments and HTML content. Each class in the
Framework can include different properties, methods, and events. The properties, methods, and
events exposed by a class are the members of that class. Partial list of the members of the

In the first place, what type of company dose use social media? Even though social media is
prominent in business nowadays, it is not for all business. For example, if a company in niche
market has business with only a few customers, a direct communication or advertising is more
efficient and effective rather than using social media. Furthermore, using social media has some
risks too, such as illegal act or the abuse of social media by employees. Thus a company has to

1.Purpose of Book The main purpose behind the book Unruly Americans and the Origins of the
Constitution, by Woody Holton is to demonstrate the authors view on the true intent of the Framers
when writing the Constitution. Although at first glance the book may seem to uphold the idea that
the framers wrote the Constitution in order to protect civil liberties, Holton has a different opinion.
To avoid a one sided book, the author not only looks at the framers intent, but the struggles facing
the American people. This book emphasizes the alternative interpretations offered by Americans on
the origins of the Constitution. Holton s purpose with this book was to show that the framers
interests involved making America more attractive to investors. In order to do so, they purposefully
made the government less democratic with the writing of the Constitution. However, with the
addition of the Bill of Rights, one could argue the Framers had at least a slight concern for the
American people and their civil liberties. In offering alternative interpretations of the origins of the
Constitution, the author accomplishes his secondary purpose, to make the reader challenge what
they know about the framing of the Constitution. Holton details the rebellion of the Unruly
Americans against the state and national governments, using Adonijah Mathews as an ultimate
example of the common man. Mathews views are presented in order to contrast the views of James
Madison, whom it seems the author

The reading shows the tie between the wolf, the deer, and the mountain. The wolf is made clear, by

her novel The Penelopiad I ve chosen to give the telling of the story to Penelope and the twelve

The Odyssey: what led to the hanging of the maids, and what was Penelope really up to? The
Odyssey tells the story of the long journey of Odysseus s return home to Ithaca after fighting in

Penelope wishes to change the way they are portrayed in history instead of being remembered as
deceptive traitors, she wants the Maids to be reminisced as the loyal servants that they truly were,
herself to be remembered as a more compassionate person, and Odysseus to have a slightly less
notable and more humble reputation.
Liu 2 Penelope tells the readers a version of events in which the maids were not deliberately being
rude to Telemachus and Odysseus, and would have behaved differently if they had known more,
trying to change the opinion of the maids from how they are portrayed in The Odyssey. In The
Odyssey, Homer portrays the maids as disloyal and faithless betrayers of Penelope and Odysseus.
Melantho, one of the maids, is portrayed in this way: Flushed with beauty, Melantho mocked him
shamelessly... her heart felt nothing for her mistress anguish now.
she was Eurymachus lover,
always slept with him.
She was the one who mocked her king and taunted... (Fagles 386) Even
though Penelope treats them very lovingly, the Maids feel nothing for the sorrow that Penelope
feels about Odysseus s absence, and are always sleeping with the Suitors, mocking and taunting
their king. The only reason that the maids behave rather rudely to Odysseus and Telemachus is
because they are doing as they are told, as Penelope narrates, Unfortunately I could not tell my

Wide Web has improved things drastically, and many physical rental stores have faded out of
existence. Ultimately, this brings about where Netflix, Red Box, and Blockbuster comes into place
considering the progression of filmservice.
Blockbuster is a great example of a brick and mortar store, which opened in Dallas in the year

quite some time. At its peak Blockbuster was massive, but because the company constantly changes

include the limited product selection they have for their customers, and the extensive wait time to

One of the most prevalent justifications and causes for southern secession was the protection of
state and citizen rights. More specifically, the protection of the rights given to them, and protected
by, the fifth amendment of the Constitution. This amendment protected the rights to property that
American citizens possessed, which in the south translated into the protection of their slaves, whom
they considered their property. The majority of southern opinion was that the northern states, or the
union, were attempting to strike down the rights of [the] Southern slave holder and override every
barrier which their constitution has erected for his protection (Document 2, p. 93). By this, the
southern opinion was arguing that the northern majority in the federal government was
intentionally limiting southern citizens constitutional rights, which in the 1860 s was a serious

disregard for the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Many secessionists pointed out that this law was
meant to protect property rights, but that multiple northern states were attempting to nullify it
(Document 2, p. 94), thereby attacking southern rights in addition to the federal laws in place. A
secondary driving force of southern secession was the belief that the southern states and citizens
needed to protect themselves, and their way of life, from Abraham Lincolns administration and the
implications that it

Apremilast for Treatment of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme
Introduction
Recurrent erythema multiforme (EM) is an uncommon skin condition with unclear etiology
considered to be a hypersensitivity reaction presenting commonly in young adults with distinctive
targetoid skin lesions with or without mucosal lesions. These cases are typically treated with
antiviral therapies or immunosuppressive agents in more extreme cases. We present a case of
recurrent EM in a young adult that resolved completely after treatment with Otezla (apremilast), an
oral medication originally developed for the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
Case report
A 21 year old African American female with a history of recurrent skin lesions on lips, tongue and
soft palate for over ten years. She was initially diagnosed at age 6 with Behcet s syndrome due to
presence of recurrent oral and genital ulcers as well as joint pain and swelling. She stated that she
has about six episodes per year with recurrence after treatment. For acute episodes, she was given
treatment with prednisone for management of oral and genital lesions, which has been used
intermittently. She was additionally treated with colchicine, dapsone and hydroxychloroquine with
no response. It is unclear when these treatments were administered or for what duration the patient
adhered to these regimens. Lesions resolved completely with no new lesions after one month of
therapy on Otezla. There has not been a recurrence for 4 months.
