soldier, athlete, author, reporter, British politician, and international statesman, Churchill is best
known as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 1945. He organized and guided

influenced the subsequent and much larger allied war effort that was eventually victorious over the

A seminal study recently commissioned by a government Committee of Teacher Education Policy
(COTEP), the so called National Teacher Education Audit (henceforth referred to as the Audit),
reported that there is an over supply of teachers in some school subjects (e.g. Biblical Studies) and
an under supply in other subjects (e.g. Science and Mathematics). These findings seem to
corroborate widespread news reports that new teachers are not finding employment. The apparent
contradiction between supply and demand alluded to above raIses important questions regarding
the employment of teachers. Is there, in fact, an oversupply of teachers? Do teacher education
graduates find employment in teaching? Do Science and Mathematics teacher education
graduates, in fact, fill positions in these assumed critical areas? To address these and related
questions, a study was designed to track a cohort of new teachers with the goal of ascertaining
their employment status in the years immediately following their graduation. ,The study used a
longitudinal tracer study design to trace the 1995 cohort of teacher graduates of the Faculty of
Education, University of Durban Westville. Data were collected at three different periods: at
graduation (July 1996), at the end of the school year (December 1996), and at the beginning of the

Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night is based off the traditional Christian holiday a day on which
the normality of the world is turned upside down. On this particular day, the normal order of
things is disrupted and the social standings of lower and upper social class members are reversed.
The title is delightfully fitting for the play, as the storyline is comprised of comical disruption
within the social decorum of Illyria. In this essay, I will examine how the carnival atmosphere of

General confusion arises due to the deceptive actions of several characters in the play. A notable
act of deception in the play is seen when Maria and Sir Toby play a trick on the head servant,
Malvolio. They are successful in misleading him to act strangely, which convinces everyone that
he has gone mad. In the hopes of wooing his master Olivia, Malvolio starts behaving strangely.
He begins to wear yellow stockings and smiles excessively; behaviours that are all

that means to be saved by believing rightly can ever believe such impossible passages of

Otherwise, she cannot simply believe that anyone in their right mind would believe the
statements made in the fake love letters. Here, we see how a simple act of deception has
disrupted normalcy as this character is supposedly going mad . In another scene, deception
breeds chaos once again when Sir Toby encourages Sir Andrew to battle Cesario to win Olivia s
heart. Despite the fact that neither party wanted to fight and was in fact terrified at the very idea,
Sir Toby continues to cause conflict by stirring up an altercation that was nonexistent to begin with.
To compound such deceptive actions, Viola s pretense as a pageboy creates further confusion
when her brother Sebastian appears at the end of the play. The mistaken identity becomes
troublesome when Antonio is arrested in front of Cesario and when Sebastian married Olivia. In
both cases, because of past lies, other characters are misled to think that an act of betrayal

knowledge of reality (p.99). The best way to describe what Berkeley was trying to say would be
found in what we call today idealism. Idealism by definition is a position that maintains that
ultimate reality is mental or spiritual in nature. He believed that reality is made up in many
individual minds rather than one cosmic mind. Hence, when Berkeley says that we have an idea of
something he is not necessarily referring to a particular concept but to the experience of our
memory of the combined ideas.
The third empiricist is David Hume (1711 1776) and he does not answer this question as easily
as the first two have. He believes that knowledge is possible but is limited by what we cannot
know about the world outside of our own experience. Since we can only know the contents of
our individual minds, knowledge would and can be different for each person. Hume believes
that sensory data is key for any individual in order to know something is real. For example, if two
people were sitting together, one possessing the ability to see and hear and the other does not,
could the one the latter really know that a car drove by and that fact that it was red? Examples like

was in threat of bombs 24/7. In one passage after a missile attack, near her house she said I saw a

scream in the world could have relieved my suffering and my anger (142). Marjane say first hand
the devastation of the war. Seeing her friends wrist under the rubble changed her Nothing sacred
me anymore (143). She had seen the worst and there was no going back.
After the Shah s regime was done, the fundamentalists took over. Forcing Iranians to obey the
Islamic regime. During the 1980 s it was forbidden for girls and women to go out in public
without being covered from head to toe. Marjane s response was rebellious. She strutted around
in Nike sneakers and jean jackets. Despite the risk of getting arrested. If I were Marjane, I
honestly would not be that rebellious. She got caught every time she was out in her western
clothes each time she got lucky and let her go. I would not like it but I would stick to wearing
those clothes around
