Example Of Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
You were walking through the supermarket when you over hear two women talking about a story,
that was all over the news. It was about a man that shot another man because his wife was cheating
on him. The two women were saying that the man s actions were courageous, but you believe
otherwise. You feel that courageis not a man with a gun in his hand, but a man that seeks a
resolution. Courage can be defined in many ways. Or people can express their courageous actions
differently than others. One of the best literary examples of courage is the novel To Kill A
Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee. The book itself conveys many forms of courage that jump
out at you. There are many debates stating who the most courageous character is, or what Harper
Lee is trying to state by expressing the courage into her characters. Those topics will be spoke
about today. Courage has a lot of definitions that everyone can follow. Most people consider
courage being whenever someone faces their fears head on, or standing up for what you believe
in. In To Kill A Mockingbird courage is expressed in many ways including standing up for your
beliefs. Atticus Finch, an honorable lawyer states, It s when you know you re licked before you
begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes

Each of those characters show courage in their own way. They do not allow anyone in the town

dilemmas that are encountered. Boo Radley saves Jem and Scout from almost getting killed from
Bob Ewell. Maudie and Link express their opinions no matter the circumstance on debatable topics
in town. Maudie speaks up about the racism happened in the town, and Link saves Helen from
Bob after Helen is not allowed to take the road in front of Bobs house. Those were the most

Swot Analysis Of Tata Nano
Market is segmented using several relevant bases. Consumer market was segmented based on the
following customer characteristics.
Geographic Segmentation Top management identified urban areas and metro cities as their
potential customers.
Demographic Segmentation Demographic segment is further divided into different types.
1.Income Nano promoted this car as common man s car . They wanted this car to be affordable to
everyone. Thus it was initially priced at 1 lakh. So, Nano invariably attracted low end and middle
income people. It also attracted people who already have one or two cars.

student would like a buy a 4 wheeler instead of a 2 wheeler if it cost almost same price. Concerned
parents were also their target segment as they want their children to drive safe vehicle. Tata Nanois
projected one of the safest cars in India. It also attracted senior citizen because of the ease of drive
provided by Nano.
Lifestyle Segmentation As Nano wasn t apt for long distance driving it didn t attract commercial

The price of the car was first decided to be approximately Rs.1 lakh and they approached and
reengineered their car model to fit in that range. Tata Nano could achieve this price by using
multiple approaches. The savings were achieved in manufacturing, design and absence of some
accessories. The target market is the middle class who want to buy a first car, instead of a
motorbike or a scooter, so that with a small increment in money, the marginal utility will increase
and they get a better medium of transport, which is safer and convenient to commute a small family

What Makes President George Washington A Good President
The United States had just claimed their independence from Britain, and was now seeking for a
strong leader to run the young nation. Unanimously, General George Washington was chosen for
the position as president due to his leadership skills that were displayed while leading the
continental forces. Washington set the standard for how future presidents should run the country
and shaped the face of the nation for many years to come with his social life, the policies he
established, and how he made the presidential office powerful. Washington s social life was
organized and relaxing, and in turn set a prime example of how the president should live his life.
During the day, Washington handled government business while the late afternoons were for
meetings with the public, and the nights were set aside for dinner parties. As stated by the text,
Washington spent his days doing the business of government and set aside the late afternoon for
meetings with the public and evenings for dinner parties with invited guests, (Stockwell).... Show

Washington limited his service to only two terms and preferred the title of Mr. President. As stated
by the article, Washington recommended the more democratic Mr. President ... He retired after
serving eight years and so set the precedent that presidents should only serve for two terms,
(Stockwell). Washington also appointed a cabinet that would aid him in running the nation. As the
text states, Washington made the office of the presidency powerful by appointing a cabinet,
(Stockwell). Washington s preferred title and choice of terms strayed away from the ideas of a
monarchy and he was aware of the fact that he needed to set these precedents in order to make sure
the presidency would run effectively. These precedents began to form the U.S. government and set
the powers of the president and his cabinet in

The Role Of 2 Youth And Community Organisations
The piece will discuss an interagency project application between 2 youth and community
organisations, with the aim of securing local authority funding set within the youth commissioning
process. This piece will discuss a number of key components which are essential towards an
effective partnership and the success of a joint funding proposal. Furthermore this paper will
provide a number of areas that need to be considered and avoided in the process of the bid being
rejected or suspended.
It is over the last 30 years that youth and community groups have experienced a major change in
the ways public services have been perceived, managed and provided. Merton et al (2009:94) claim

According to the National Youth Agency (2012: 10) there are a number of different descriptions
for the commissioning process. However, essentially all follow a process of understand, plan, do
and review , which Merton (2009:99) states; is important to recognise that the full commissioning
process is more that procurement. If the commissioners, who may also be known as the Children

commissioning. A more in depth look at this cycle can be obtained via NYA (2012:10) the
commissioning cycle diagram or see the commissioning framework for Every Child Matters (2006)
Policy makers have made it clear cut that local authorities can only provide and commission an
integrated youth offer with partners, in particular with organisations and services in the voluntary
and community sector Merton (2007:105). According to the NYA (2012:3) before embarking on
any commissioning it is important to ensure that: there is a commitment to shared vision, values
and principles; there are strong governance arrangements in place; there is a clear remit for the
work; and key partners and stakeholders have been identified.

Gee Literacy Discourse
Identity is something that some people have a really hard time with, deciding who you are or
who you want to be seems like a simple task but for some the choice to choose who they want to
be isn t always their choice. James Paul Gee author of Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistic:
Introduction talks about identity and how people have different Discourses depending on what
social situation a person is in. Gee created and described Discourse as ways of being in the
world; they are forms of life which integrate words, acts, values, beliefs, attitudes, and social
identities as well as gestures, body positions, and clothes (Gee). Gee talks about how discourses

well respected Latina woman, and also expected her to speak traditional spanish. But the girl
also went to an English speaking school so she was expected to speak standard american English

that was good for three licks on the knuckles with a sharp ruler (252). So this girl is struggling
between her two Discourses because each culture is telling her that it s either their identity or
nothing. So the girl tries to come up with a mix of both and ends up with Chicano which was a
mix of the two different languages she was expected to know. But the two cultures still didn t

The Australian Television Industry Analysis
From Contents to Devices: The Australian Television Industry Analysis
The emergence of the internet and digital globalisation forces the entire media and entertainment
industry to digitalize and accelerate its online distribution world widely, the commercial television
industry is not an exception. During this transforming period, the continuous rise in popularity of
online video sharing websites like YouTube and the increasing prevalence of mobile video
playback devices seem to suggest that commercial television has passed its glory days. However,
an outlook of the global media and entertainment industry posted by PwC (2015) pointed out that
free to air television occupied the largest share of the global advertising market in 2014 with
31%, and will remain 29% in next five years. Therefore, whether the free to air television industry
is in crisis or still profitable with huge potential is depends on the industry and regulation
background in the particular area. This essay will take Australian commercial television industry as
an example to analyse its challenges and future development trend. The analysis will focus on the
particular situation faced by Australian television industry, especially the free to air television, and
tread different channels of Australian free to air television as a whole. It will firstly introduce the
historical development of Australian free to air television and draw a brief sketch of how this
industry is formed and regulated. Then, this analysis

Rhyme Scheme Of Vasco Da Lasiad
Vasco da Gama is the chief character in The Lusiads, but he is not its hero. The poem s title
derives from Lusitania, the Roman name for the province that roughly encompasses present day
Portugal. The nation of Portugal and all of its people are the true heroes of this patriotic epic.
The Lusiads is written in ottava rima, a rhyme scheme of Italian origin that was commonly used in
Renaissance epic poetry. An ottava rima stanza has eight lines with three rhymes, following the
rhyme scheme abababcc. It is a flowing meter that allows the narrative to move smoothly, and the
long, assonant rhymes have a kind of lulling quality.
The Lusiads begins in medias res, or in the middle of the action. Vasco da Gama and his
Portuguese crewmen are in the East African kingdom of Malindi, having survived rough weather
and an ambush. The local king encourages Gama to recite the history of the Portuguese people,
which he does, going back to ancient times.
Gama tells the story of the Roman general Quintus Sertorius, whose successful rebellion drove a
repressive regime out of Hispania (now Portugal and Spain). Gama then describes the growth of
Portugal from a small principality to a significant European state. The story culminates in book 4,
with the 1385 Battle of Aljubarrota, in which the Portuguese defeated the Spanish kingdom of
Castile and restored the Portuguese monarch to the throne. CamГµes s patriotism is evident is his
description of Portuguese general Nuno ГЃlvares Pereira s victory over Spain:
O er Tago s waves his gallant band he led,And humbled Spain in every province bled;Sevilia s
standard in his spear he bore,And Andulsia s ensigns kept in gore.Low in the dust distresst Castilia
mourned,And bathed in tears each eye to heaven was turnedThe orphans, widows, and the hoary
sires; And heaven relenting quench d the raging firesOf mutual hate. . . .
After this battle, the Portuguese were able to launch overseas explorations, and these initial
voyages are delineated in the poem. Finally, Gama tells the story of his own voyage, his
circumnavigation of the Cape of Good Hope, which the Portuguese called the Cape of Storms. It is
here that the most supernatural elements of the poem appear: Adamastor and a maritime apparition.

Advantages Of Exercise Machines
When it comes to training and working out in the gym, we all have our own personal favourite
exercises and/or pieces of equipment for training. There are some people out there that
absolutely adore treadmills and pieces of cardio equipment, whilst there are others that can t
stand them. Some people like dumbbells, some like barbells, some like chest press machines,
some like leg press machines, the list can go on and on. If you really want to start an argument
and watch people get especially heated however, get a group of fitness enthusiasts together, and
ask them whether free weights are better than isolation machines. Some people will swear that
free weights and free weight exercises are the best, whilst others will be adamant that gym
isolation machines are the more beneficial of the two. So, if one set of people is telling you one

not only that, but you can actually perform a number of different exercises for all major muscle

do, and although different machines work different muscles, you are still only limited to whichever
machines your gym has in stock.
What are machine exercises? Now that we ve covered free weight exercises, it is now time to take
a look at machine exercises. We ll get right to the point here, by telling you that machine exercises
are basically exercises which are performed using resistance machines in the gym. There are
different machines that target different muscle groups, so let s look at the benefits.

Homer Hickam In The Movie October Sky
October Sky is a movie that teaches us a lesson in perseverance, pursuing our goals, and turning
our dreams into reality. Homer Hickam, the main character, was such a person. When he was
confronted with obstacles that caused failure, Homer continued to try. In this essay I would like to
explore the relationship with his teacher, Ms. Riley, why Homer was chosen to go to the science
fair instead of his friends, and Homer s relationship with his father.
Homer had someone who believed in him before the Rocket Boys even started shooting off
successful rockets. Her name was Frieda Riley. Ms. Riley was Homer s 1th grade teacher. Since
the time when Homer brought the rocket into school, she provided Homer with encouragement.
She also convinced Homer and the Rocket Boys to join the science fair. On Homer s 18th
birthday, she gave him a book on rocketry. Homer said it was the best present anyone had ever
given him. Because of a mining accident, Homer was forced to quit school and work in the coal
mine. Ms. Riley didn t want to speak with him after he quit. He soon found out that he hated coal
mining and quit his job to go back to school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hodgkin s disease, Ms. Riley wasn t able to teach much. Homer and his friends worked day and
night fixing, researching, building, welding, drilling and launching rockets that failed. Out of all
the Rocket Boys, Homer became the leader because he was interested in rocketry the most. After
they won the school science fair, they went on to the nationals but the school could only afford to
send one person to Indianapolis for the National Science Fair. Homer s desire was so great that all
the rocket boys decided Homer should represent Coalwood at the National Science

Socratic Seminar On The Hobbit
During a Socratic Seminar about the Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien, many interesting topics were
discussed. We spent the majority of the time talking about the main character Bilbo. During the
beginning of the book, Bilbo was a very quiet and reserved hobbit. When there was a chance of
going on an adventure, though, Bilbo ran out the front door without a second though. We ended up
discussing why he did this. People said that Bilbo ran out for the adventure for a number of
reasons, however I thought that he did it on pure impulse, and I made sure to make that opinion
know. I think that, because of the opinions of the other hobbits, Bilbo was convincing himself that
adventures were foolhardy and not worth the effort. However, Bilbo actually loves adventures,

Real World Chemistry
Chemistry in the Real World
As you walk down the street you are surrounded by chemistry. It is responsible for how many
things work for example how your car gets you to school, how soaps clean you, and even how
your cell phone charges. But one of the most profound and common chemical reaction that occurs
is to formation of rust. Rust is a reddish brown compound called iron oxide (Fe2O3). This is
formed when iron is in contact with oxidant or acids. For iron to rust you must have water and
oxygen. As the first drop of water touches the iron it combines with carbon dioxide in the air to
form a weak carbonic acid. As this weak acid is formed the iron starts to dissolve, some of the
water will begin to break down into hydrogen and oxygen. This

Lolita And The Dark Tower
My first thought was, he lied in every word,
That hoary cripple, with malicious eye
Askance to watch the working of his lie
On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford
Suppression of the glee, that pursed and scored
Its edge, at one more victim gained thereby. (lines 1 6)
Nabokov s character Humbert Humbert from Lolita is perfectly described in this stanza from
Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. Nabokov compares Humbert to many
poets throughout Lolita. Humbert likens himself to a Romantic poet with the intent of rationalizing
his crime of pedophilia as an artistic endeavor. To Humbert, in particular, life really does imitate
art. Art also imitates life. Nabokov created the character of Humbert in the image of Edgar Allan Poe
. Humbert s life as a character closely resembles Poe s literary works of art, and Nabokov s art, the
character of Humbert in Lolita, bears an interesting resemblance to Poe s true life.
Edgar Allan Poe married his aunt s daughter Virginia, who at age thirteen was seven years his
junior. Poe s aunt also happened to be his landlady at the time (Lepore). In the same way, Humbert
started an explicit relationship with Charlotte s daughter, Dolores, age thirteen, after Charlotte s
death. Charlotte was Humbert s landlady. This is an example of art imitating life. Humbert fancies
himself a poet with discerning taste in nymphets, which excuses his preference for young girls
because they are subhuman devils. Humbert

19th Century Swimming
Swimming became a true sport in the 19th century when Great Britain began to start holding
competitions to see who could get from one side of the pool to the other the fastest. The first
type of stroke that they used was breaststroke because that was the easiest way to swim at the
time while still being able to breathe. As time progressed the British started using a stroke called
the forward crawl with a scissor kick, however a man named Frederick Cavill in 1887 traveled to
the South Seas and saw people using the forward crawl but with a flutter kick which is now our
modern day freestyle. Swimmingfirst became featured in the Olympics in 1896 and the only
strokes that were raced were Freestyle and Breaststroke. Backstroke was added in 1904

Gondwana, the southern half of the ancient supercontinent Pangea and a supercontinent in its own
right, was composed of the continents and landmasses that we now call Antarctica, South America,
Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. A
supercontinent is a large landmass that is made up of several continents and a subcontinent is a
large distinguishable part of a continent, an example being the part of Asia which contains India,
Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gondwana was first formed between 570 510 Mya (million years ago)
and then combined with another supercontinent, Laurasia, to form Pangea. It then split from
Pangea between 280 200 Mya, with different resources stating different timeframes for this split.
Around 180 165 Mya, Gondwana started to split and the continents started drifting to where they
are today. Back when Gondwana existed, the climateon Earthwas milder than what it is today and
the average temperature was significantly higher than the average temperature on Earth now. As a
result of this climate, much of Gondwana was covered in lush temperate rainforests. The geological

Napoleon s And His Life
NAPOLEON Napoleon Bonaparte was a merciless and selfish individual whose only thrive was to
conquered his egotistical heart. He gave up an ordinary life to serve his country and his desires to
be at the top of world. His desires to conquer and power unraveled a history that will last a lifetime.
The infamous Napoleon Bonaparte was born in August 15, 1769, he was the second of eight
children, on the newly added island of Corsica. Great Britain s instability was feeling the
beginning of a revolution. During this time a young and pale Napoleon was quickly maturing.
He was a careless but disciplined young man who would not care if he had friends or ate alone.
Often, he would only speak to officers and to those who seemed ignorant of the law. At the age
of fourteen he decided to pursue a military career and later his father would pave his way into a
French military academy. Napoleon worked very hard to educate himself, and at being a
disciplined man. Young Bonaparte was not liked amongst his fellow comrades as he looked and
acted weird.
The French Revolution was the opportunity young Napoleon had been looking for to rise in the
French Army. It was nothing but chaos and weakness in Europe that gave Napoleon the opportunity
that first came to him. He only looked at France as a source of a ladder to the top. Napoleon
careless of democracy or even religion made every attempt to always outsmart others. France

Plato s Symposium, Sequential Speeches Praise The God Of...
In Plato s Symposium, sequential speeches praise the god of Love, but they stray from truth until
Diotima s speech provides a permanent form in which love neither waxes nor wanes (Sym. 211A).
Through the speeches, love shifts from identifying with the concrete to the abstract, but still
ultimately advances goals of present: Phaedrus sees loveas helping men gain virtue, Aristophanes as
only a promise to restore humans to their original nature and Pausanias and Eryximachus have to
use two changing notions of love (Sym. 180B, 193D). In contrast, Diotima relates love as the

211A). Diotima continues to rise towards abstract concepts as she attempts to explain love s
purpose.
This contrasts both Phaedrus and Aristophanes descriptions of love. She broadly states that a
lover does not seek the half or whole unless it is good because people will even amputate, or
separate, part of their own body if diseased (Sym. 205E). Aristophanes argues love is the name
for our pursuit of wholeness but Diotima explains this cannot be true if the other half is bad,
even if it seems to bring wholeness, such as bodies with a temporary veneer of beauty (Sym.
192E). So, love must be explained by separating it to an upwards trajectory, rising towards the
concept of good. Otherwise love is only an impermanent promise (Sym. 193D). Therefore,
Aristophanes lack of separation from the concrete cause love to come from incompleteness and a
fallen condition (Dutton Lecture). Likewise, Phaedrus speech lacks a removal from the present
and therefore fails to explain love s effects, as seen in his Achilles and Patroclus example. To
Phaedrus, Achilles still dying after Patroclus passes is love, for no one will die for you but a lover
(Sym. 179B). But, Diotima claims this love is unhealthy as it fails to represent the abstract notion
of beauty. Since beauty is something to be indirectly experienced, it is unmeasurable and instead

Evolution Of Mobile Network Essay
THE GRADUAL EVOLUTION OF MOBILE NETWORKS FROM FIRST GENERATION TO
THE FIFTH GENERATION
ABSTRACT
Mobile networks have made a remarkable growth in the last 20 years. In our time 4G is the
main network used to ensure IP connectivity for real time and non real time services. It will be
wrong not to mention that in most 3rd world countries 3G and 2G networks are still of great
importance in the field of communication due to poor connectivity issues preventing them to
utilize the services of 4G services. This paper will mainly talk about the growth of mobile
networks from say 3G to 4G and also mention in details what we expect from 5G network. It will
also mention some of the positive and negative impacts to our Kenyan society and ways to ensure
that we benefit fully from the services. The proposal in this paper is fundamental shift in the
mobile networking philosophy compared to existing 3G and near soon 4G mobile technologies,
and this concept is called here the 5G.

Interviews With Advisors
Interviews with Advisors Annette (Prayer Buddy) Annette is like a counselor, easy to talk to and
knows the right things to say. Her comments were very insightful, truthful and profound.
Interesting because she probably knows me the least of any of the people that were advisors for
this assignment. Anette believes that family, coaching and education (both my own and that of
my students) are the things most important to me. She believes that honesty and integrity are
values I believe in and stand for. That persevering and succeeding are things that I want to be
known for. That I want someone who shares my values to spend the rest of my life with and
utilize those shared families to have a family. She believes that I have fun when I spend time with

The Importance of You-Are-Here Maps in Emergency Situations
Introduction
You Are Here maps are specific maps which have an indicator, You are here , to place the
position of the map reader on the map. You are here maps are aimed to guide newcomers in a
modest size unit such as shopping malls, parks, university campuses, airports. You are here maps
allow people to orient themselves in the environments (Levine, 1982). Visitors of these areas will
have different purposes. For example, a visitor may search for a particular shop in complex
shopping mall or a newcomer in a public or commercial building might look for the exit door.
According to different purposes, a variety of spatial task is needed. One of the most important
purpose and spatial task is to guide people to the nearest exits in the case of evacuation. In the
case of emergency situation spatial awareness of all involved people is really critical. Therefore,
You Are Here maps could help people to locate themselves in the place and finding the way to the

The Discovery Of The Tomb
Introduction
In ancient Egypt, a boy dies mysteriously. Quickly buried in a small tomb, he lies peacefully,
undisturbed. Thousands of years later, in February 1922, a man named Howard Carter finds the
boy s tomb. Named the discovery of the century, the discovery of the tomb answers so many
questions, but creates a mystery that takes its place in the world s greatest unsolved mysteries.
I selected the topic of Tutankhamun because I have an interest in Egyptian pharaohs, and
Tutankhamun s mystery intrigues me. Tutankhamun came to throne at only about eight or nine
years old. About ten years later, he dies. How? Some theories include a chariot accident, he was
murdered, or died from disease. This research report will include the events before Tutankhamun s
life that led to him becoming king, his short reign, death, the chain of events that Tutankhamun
caused after his death, and jump ahead in the timeline to his discovery thousands of years later.
The Six Lenses Overview
Geography
Ancient Egypt had the world s largest river, the Nile River, running right through it. Most people
lived in the fertile soil near the Nile, called the Nile Valley. The Nile is over 4000 miles long,
which is as long as traveling from California to Georgia and back again. The Nile is actually two
rivers, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile starts in Central Africa, and the Blue Nile
starts in East Africa. The Nile provided the Ancient Egyptians with water for drinking and

Sensationalizing Criminal Activity in the Media
The media constantly reports on criminal activity and crime as a whole within our community in
which it has every right to do. However, the media often sensationalises crime in order to create
moral panic within the community, using it as a way to control how the public perceives current
community issues. Some people may be led to a blind acceptance of the reality of such
presentations as constructed by the media (Crime and Justice, 2012, Pg. 63)
Because a majority of the public have minimal experience with the judicial system, public
knowledge and views of law and the legal system are dependent on media representations (N.
Marder, 2001). General observation can quickly identify that the media almost always presents a
distorted view of the law. The relationship between law and media is very complex and constantly
evolving, however, it is clear that relatively few of us have experienced first hand the effects of
serious criminal violence. (Crime and Justice, 2012)
Our understanding of crime is predominantly derived from media and not from objective data, such
as real time crime statistics or victimisation surveys. This is very problematic to members of a jury
as it can be assumed that the majority of a jury have a distorted view of reality as Jurors are
drawn from the community at large, so it is only to be expected that jurors will reflect the general
social outlook and values of their communities. (Jurors 24/7, 2014)

The Economic Crash Of 2008 Changed Everyone s Lives
The Economy shifts all the time and comes back to an equilibrium, but the changes it brings are
permanent. From 2007 to 2009 the united states went through an economic downfall. The
economic crash in 2008 changed everyone s lives. I will be discussing this more on a personal
level as in how people s actual lives changed, rather than discussing the numbers and how the
stock market changed. What happens when the economy crashes and how does this impact
people? I will answer this using the lens that describes the everyday lives of people. What made
people realize that the economy was suffering? People had the same amount of income but the
prices of everything around got extremely high. The things that made a huge impact was the gas
prices and loss of jobs. One thing leading to another, with gas prices so high people weren t even

During the economic crash in 2008 the gas prices were around five Dollars a gallon when two

of this? Well, many people made permanent changes in their lives because of this. A lot of people
sold their cars and switched to fuel efficient cars and gave up their happiness and satisfaction of
driving big engine SUVs and sports cars. People also reduced driving and relied more on public
transportation. The amount of people on the bus, Bart, and bikes increased rapidly. There was also
an increase in people carpooling and using FastTrack. This led to less people driving but it didn t
benefit everyone. People who were jobless or laid off were not able to go far from home to look for
jobs because gas prices were high and public transportation only covered a certain radius. The

The study of the relationship between Chinese stock market and macro economy: Can Chinese
stock market imply macro economy?
1.Motivation
Researches concerning on macro economy and stock markets of established markets have been
widely studied in the past. Early studies in this area support the argument that stock market returns
are influenced by economic announcements ( Hardouvelis, 1988 ). Additionally, authors such as
Levine and Zervos ( 1996 ) have produced significant evidence that stock markets returns are
influenced by macroeconomic indicators such as Gross Domestic Production ( GDP ), productivity,
employment and interest rates.
However, there has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, a study for China is essential as it potentially creates a necessary background for

Further, It is interesting that even though China has become one of the most powerful economic
unit in the world and also has been developing steadily and fast during the last three decades, its
stock market is still very volatile overtime. Thus, problems that whether the Chinese stock market
really has the ability to react macro economy or how well the stock market can fit the macro
economy still need some further studies and researches to discover. The conclusion of this
dissertation can not only help the Chinese investors to make better investment decisions but also
make some suggestions to the the ones who regulate Chinese economy and finance.

Discuss the Criminal Liability of Dave for the Murder of...
Discuss the criminal liability of Dave for the murder of Edward. (25) I would charge Dave
under s18 of OAPA (1861). For a s18 offence, there needs to be a Mens Rea of intention where
the defendant must see some harm and consequence, and the Actus Reus of GBH or Murder. For
s18 to be applicable, direct intention needs to be proven. When Direct Intention cannot be proven,
oblique intention (as per Woolin, however more recently Matthews and alleyene is applied,
which has more criteria. When it comes to D foreseeing some harm it is obvious there is a direct
intention as Dave had the knife, ran after Edward and stabbed him in the leg. The Actus Reus can
also be seen when Dave stabs Edward in the leg. In terms of causation, we must... Show more

In the case of Dave and Edward however, only 2 of these 3 criteria are present, as something was
said or done by Edward (he swore at Dave before walking off), and what Dave did was in a hot
blooded response, as he went straight to the house, grabbed the knife and ran after Edward,
however the defence fails when it comes down to the reasonable man test, as a reasonable man
would not run after another man with a knife and stab them in the leg, therefore the defence of
provocation cannot be applied, as per Ahluwalia. When this defence has failed, Dave can then
present the defence of Diminished Responsibility. Diminished responsibility is defined under
S2(1) of the Homicide Act 1957, and is any abnormality of the mined caused by either arrested
/retarded development, inherent causes, diseases or injury. It also has to substantially impair the
defendant s mental responsibility for his or her actions (as per Byrne). If a defence of
diminished responsibility can be proven on a balance of probabilities, D will charged with
manslaughter rather than murder. In this case, it is evident that there is some form of abnormality
of mind in the respect that Dave had become obsessive about cleaning his car and ensuring that he
could park it outside his house. If this wasn t evidence enough that he was not your average
reasonable person , He also suffered great stress and became angry when he was prevented from

Effects Of Overfishing
Introduction
The main causes of overfishing are poor fishery management with a lack of regulation, unrestricted
access to the ocean and illegal fishing. During the last few decades the demand for edible seafood
globally has skyrocketed and the high demand is causing us to overfish to keep up with the demand.
Unfortunately, fisherman are catching more fish than can be naturally reproduced. There are only
limited regulations in place, which means that fishing companies are basically fishing when and
where they want to with out any oversite. Overfishing causes such serious effects such as the ocean
life getting knocked out of balance. Coastal communities rely on the benefits of the fishing for
social and economic health. When we overfish it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Oceaneos Research Foundation stated that in the mid 1990 the Atlantic cod was caught to near
extinction. Newfoundland s fishing industry collapsed due to overfishing and 40,000 jobs were
lost and the ecosystem destroyed. Fifteen years after the loss of the cod industry they are still
waiting for a recovery. ( The Oceaneos Marine Research Foundation , 2017)
Another global effect of overfishing is fish farming or aquaculture. It was first started to help
preserve the ocean and hoped to help people to obtain a reliable fish source. Unfortunately, what
many came to realize is the downside of fish farming. One example is water contamination,
where consequently waste products such as foods eaten, feces and other dead fish, are all
dumped into our main water supply which contributes to water pollution. Moreover, chemicals
that are used to treat the fish farms like antibiotics and algaecides are all released into the ocean;
which is a real cause for concern for our oceans. Fish that come from the fish farms are pumped
full of drugs, to prevent sickness in the fish but this is not healthy for us to eat. There is also a great
environmental impact which includes the fact that to sustain fish farms, portions of

Life During The Renaissance Era
The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle
between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and
spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change
ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a
way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir
Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First
Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the
political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the
renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its
Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia
help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this
reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s
current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to
Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism
to Protestantism. According to Hythloday, on the island of Utopia, they believe in the idea of a
God but, different people define him differently, and each supposes

During the 1930 s racism played a huge role in society for African Americans who faced

The Real Irish Republican Army
RIRA: Description of group The Real Irish Republican Army (RIRA) is a splinter group of the
Irish Republican Army (IRA) that uses sabotage, subversion, and guerilla warfare to express its
opposition to the terms of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. This agreement basically recognized
that the majority of the people within Northern Irelandwished to remain a part of the United
Kingdom. It also recognized that a large section of the people of Northern Ireland, and the majority
of the people of the continent of Ireland wanted a united Ireland. For the most part, the Good
Friday Agreement brought an end to the struggle between unionists and nationalists during the
Troubles (an unconventional war spanning from 1968 1998 in Northern Ireland between British
security forces, republican and loyalist paramilitaries, and civil rights groups). To understand how
the RIRA came to be, you have to know a little about the history of the IRA. Specifically, on how
the members regarded violence as a means to a unified Ireland without British involvement. In
December 1969, the IRA divided into Official and Provisional wings. Both factions were committed
to a united Irish republic, but the Officials eschewed violence after 1972, whereas the Provisionals,
or Provos, carried out various attacks and assassinations, attempting to compel the British Armyto

Rhetorical Analysis Of All Men Are Created Equal
What does it mean All Men Are Created Equal it must be difficult for President Lincoln to explain
this idea to his audience after the Civil War had just come to an end, while there is still a little
conflict between both sides. To begin with, the American idea is that all men are created equal and
Lincoln during his speech he is trying to convince his audience that All Men Are Created Equal.
Adding on, to do so, Lincoln wants to dedicate a portion of the land, as to honor all of the brave
men who have given their lives on the Battlefield. Furthermore, Lincoln wants his audience to put
this war to rest and then prepare for a greater task that lies ahead of them in the future, here are a

how the tragedy all starts. At first, he is described as a jocular person who often use vulgar

Romeo stands Tybalt s provocation. Moreover, after Mercutio s death, Romeo kills Tybalt, and

exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera

When all the competitors are introduced on stage we see Olive is far out of place just through
her basic average costuming, compared to the other girls who are dressed like little Barbie
dolls, with glittery clothes and excessive make up. Even though Olive is out of place and
obviously doesn t belong in the competition, she still reflects Grandpa s view on classifying
winners and losers which was introduced before he died. Grandpa believes that a real loser is
someone who is so afraid of not winning they don t even try. Through the costuming and Olives
actions the directors implant that view of winning and losing into the audience, which then
reflects on our world today, as we need to show more support, not for the winners of a
competition, but the courage people have developed to enter a competition. The Final key
technique which is employed by the cinematic team of Little Miss Sunshine is the use of sound.
Throughout the film there is an evident mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In the scene

and start up a playlist. Heartbreak Girl by 5sos starts playing, and I put my phone into my
speakers. The sing starts blaring across my room. I smile as I turn and walk back to my bathroom
with a spring in my step.
I take down the towel holding up my hair, and start brushing through it with a wet brush, singing to
the song a few times.
I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO YOU, THE ONE WHO NEVER SEES THE TRUTH, THAT I CAN
TAKE AWAY YOUR HURT, HEARTBREAK GIIIIRL I sing as I squeeze some leave in
conditioner from the bottle into my hand. I scrunch it up through my hair.
I gotta get it through your head, that you belong with me insteeeead! I stop to pretend to play the
guitar after that line. I run my hair over again with the brush, and I plug in my hair dryer. Sober

my wet hair.
YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO LOVE ME WHEN YOU RE SOBER! WHEN THE BOTTLES

Little Rock Central High School Research Paper
The road to the historic desegregation of Little Rock Central High school began in the 1930 s
when the NAACP tasked future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall with fighting
segregation in schools. By 1950 he had helped to strike down segregation in universities in several
states. In 1951, the NAACP aided parents of black children attending public schools in Topeka,
Kansas in attempting to overturn the state s segregation laws. After a three year court battle, the
1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of EducationTopeka culminated in the abolishment of
school segregation laws in 21 states. (Seeds 1)

Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent the students from entering Central High.
The students attempted to stay on track with their education via correspondence courses and help
from students of the local college for nearly three weeks as the NAACP fought their case in the
courts. President Eisenhower met with the governor and convinced him to rescind the National
Guard. The nine students once again tried to enter the school on September 23rd with a police
escort but were met with a mob of over 1,000 angry whites calling for their deaths. After making
their way into a side door, the Little Rock Nine were separated and sent to their first classes. Half
way through the day the mob overpowered the police and the nine black students were rushed out
of the building in two large cars as TV cameras showed the American people the chaos unfolding in
Little Rock. The next day, President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and
ordered over 1000 men from the US Army s 101st Airborne division to protect the students. On
September 25, the students returned to Central High School with a full military escort including
jeeps, helicopter circling the school, and paratroopers guarding the

Japan s Attack On Pearl Harbor Essay
World War Two was a conflict between the Axis powers (Germany, Japan and Italy) and the
Allied powers (Great Britain, France, USSR, United States and China). The conflict was
sparked when Hitler took over Poland during September of 1939. This invasion was the last
straw for Hitler as the world had already warned him many times not to invade any more
countries. As Germany waged war on Poland, days later, Britain, Canada and France had
declared war on Germany. This was the official start of what is known as the deadliest war in the
history of the world. As the fighting went on the Germans were doing very well until their ally,
Japan, made a fatal mistake that would end up causing them the war. On December 7th 1941,
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was the United States naval base in Hawaii that
housed a large amount of their naval fleet during the 1940 s. Japan s attack on Pearl Harbor was
the breaking point for the United States, so they finally ended their times of being Isolationists
and declared war on Japan and Germany just a day later. This was the most fatal mistake in the
war for the Axis powers, because at the time, the US had immense wealth, weaponry and allies. If
it were not for Japan s attack on Pearl Harbor, America may have never joined the war, however,
because they did attack them, the US ended up winning the war for the Allied powers because of
their advanced weaponry and technology. Because of the United States of America s involvement

The Humiliating Nature of Enslavement, Sexual Savage...
The humiliating nature of enslavement, sexual savage exploitation, and degradation in
autobiographical narratives of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs
In the age of Romanticism, slavery and the slave trade provoked sharp criticism and controversy
and played a very significant role in shaping public opinion and causing moral opposition to
injustice and tyranny. Since Columbus s journey opened the doors of the Atlantic passage to
African Slave Trade, slavery became man s greatest inhumanity to man converting the victims into
labor and economic units of production. The foundation of African culture and civilization
stagnated, decayed and almost disappeared within the over three hundred years of the Christian
motivated evil of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why throughout his life, he worked very hard to read and write, attain more knowledge,
and share this knowledge with others suffering alongside him as slaves. The work of instructing
my dear fellow slaves was the sweetest engagement with which I was ever blessed...I succeeded
in creating in them a strong desire to learn how to read (Douglass). However, while Douglass
mostly spoke about his black brothers and sisters as one whole the brotherhood , Jacobs in
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself portrayed the wrongs inflicted by slavery
in the eyes of women slaves and the sexual tyranny exerted by white slave masters over black
women (Jacobs).
Reader, be assured this narrative is no fiction...I was born and reared in Slavery...I do earnestly
desire to arouse the women of the North to realizing sense of the condition of two millions of
women at the South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse. (Jacobs)
With these words, Harriet Ann Jacobs revealed her personal story of enslavement, sexual savage
exploitation, and degradation. In appealing to white women to look at life from her perspective,
Jacobs was hoping to portray the cruelty of slavery in the eyes of a woman. She did not talk about
severe whipping or punishments like Douglass but rather Christmas which she could not spend with

Animal Farm Book, Language Used as an Instrument of Social...
Paying particular attention to the character of Squealer, how is language used as an instrument of
social control? How do the pigs rewrite history?
In the book animal farm, Orwell very carefully created his characters in order to mimic certain
political figures of the time. In this case Squealer functioned as the propaganda department.
Squealer uses language to keep Napoleon in power. He uses language as a means to consolidate
power, in this light truth is an element that can be manipulated through language.
His use of language is designed to enhance the control that the pigs have over the rest of the farm.
When squealer uses language as his weapon he constantly puts particular spins on events and
conditions and he uses slogans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, together with Boxer s enormous strength, is what makes him a threat to the pigs; they
desperately need him for his enormous capacity for work and example but, if that strength were to
be turned against them because he unwittingly alerted the rest of the animals to their corruption,
then their regime would be finished.
This fact is why Boxer is viewed as a treat, despite being an ally napoleon ultimately took the first
chance he had to get rid of boxer, and why his eventual fate comes about. Napoleon took full
advantage of the disposal of Boxer and knew once he was gone the threat of Napoleon being over
thrown was banished, Because even if the animals tried to revolt or protest, he would be able to
take control with his almighty army of beast like dogs.
While the betrayal of Boxer is not, the true climax, one could indeed construe this event in such a
way that it legitimizes as an alternative climax. After all, the betrayal of Boxer is nearly equal in the
importance to the banishment of Snowball, politically speaking.
Of all of the Characters in Animal Farm, are there any who seem to represent the point of view of
the author? Which animals or people do you think come(s) closet to achieving Orwell s perspective
on Animal Farm?
George Orwell brings to life many characters in the novel Animal Farm; He introduces very
interesting Characters like Boxer and Benjamin who portray some

CMIS 412
INTRODUCTION The purpose of the system security plan (SSP) is to provide an overview of
federal information system security requirements and describe the controls in place or planned to
meet those requirements for the Department of Health and Human Services. Each SSP is
developed in accordance with the guidelines contained in National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800 18, Guide for Developing Security Plans for

The analysis of risk assessment controls are an important aspect of a system, as they are used as a
basis for identifying and selecting appropriate and cost effective measures.
1.1.1RA 1: Risk Assessment Policy and Procedures
Implementation Status: In place.
Implementation of Control: The Department of Health and Human Services has implemented risk
assessment policies and procedures such as HIPAA, through its regulatory compliance of OMB
Circular A 130, and NIST SP 800 37 Rev.1 standards. They have done so, by establishing,
dissementing, and periodically reviewing/updating formal documented risk assessment policy and
procedures that address the purpose, scope, roles, responsibilities, and compliance of the
organization. Furthermore, the HHS has also followed this control through the development and
implementation of policies, the organizational commitment to information security and the actions
required to effectively manage risk and protect the core missions and business functions being
carried out by the organization (DHHS, 2011).
1.1.2RA 5: Vulnerability Scanning
Implementation Status: In place.
Implementation of Control: In order to meet this risk assessment control, the Department of Health
and Human Services uses appropriate vulnerability scanning tools such as those of the Operating
Divisions (OPDIVs) which ensure the

Billy Collins Poetry Analysis
My analysis is on introduction to poetry by Billy Collins. Collins relays the message that
readers should be patient and open minded when reading poems in order to see the meaning.
Poetry is something to experience by going inside of it. There is a heavy use of metaphors in
this poem. The first line, I ask them to take a poem and hold it up to the light like a color slide
resembles that sometimes you have to look at something in a different way or in a different
light in order to see the variations. Collins is asking the reader to look at the poem in a different
way, not the way you would typically read something. I also interpret the color slide as not just a
brightly colored picture, but also an image shown on a screen that makes you ask the questions
what are they doing? Where are they? And what s going on in the picture? By referencing an image
on the slide it also references something that holds image, and holds information that can appear
dark or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes the reader experience the sound or energy of the poem such as danger, anticipation, or
excitement. The part of the poem that says I say drop a mouse into a poem and watch him probe
his way out has great interpretation because sometimes it a poem you can get lost in all the
different meanings. Collins wants you to get inside of the poem and really explore it. This also
gives a clear image of a mouse in a maze working through our problem of how to get out. It s not
a straight shot from the beginning of a poem to the end, it is an intricate maze. When the poem
reads or walk inside the poem s room and feel the walls for a light switch is in reference to when
you are in the dark about what the meaning is and you want the light of understanding to be turned
on. It s as if Collins is asking us to find the place in the poems that makes the light bulb come

Difference Between Poo2 And Sao2
For each of the four conditions below, give the expected changes (increased, decreased, or normal)
for PaO2 and SpO2/SaO2
Condition
PaO2
SpO2 / SaO2
Severe Anaemia
PaO2 remains normal. Severe anaemia is caused by a reduced amount of RBCs in the body.
Oxygen pressure only measures the free, unbound oxygen dissolved in the plasma. Since severe
anaemia is deficient in RBCs (oxygen molecules bound in haemoglobin in an RBC), it does not
affect the oxygen pressure.
Likewise, SaO2 remains normal. The oxygen saturation measures the amount of oxygen molecules
bound in the haemoglobin. Even if the the RBCs in the body are inadequate, the oxygen saturation
can still be normal since the remaining RBCs can still maintain an adequate amount of haemoglobin

Un Nuevo Mundo As I placed the car into park, turned the key off and stepped into the crisp cold
winter air, I begin to feel my pulse raise. With each step we took drawing us closer to the door, I
felt my heart beating faster. With a quick turn of the ice cold door knob, I found myself standing
in a whole new world. The food, the music, the faces, the language, everything was different than
what I knew. For the first time in my life I was the minority in my small home town of Winamac,
Indiana. New Years eve was the first time meeting my Hispanic boyfriend s family, of course I
had taken a few Spanish classes back in high school, but not even the most advanced class could

I was hugging people I couldn t even speak to, but that didn t matter. There were no language
barriers for the shared symbolic meaning of a hug! After we all were done hugging was when the

couldn t even understand. I was having so much fun, we didn t stop till 5 a.m. . Celebrating the
New Yearwith people you don t know, let alone can barely communicate with seems absurd.
Most people would be quick to say no thank you, I believe that I too would have been that person
to turn down this opportunity if it weren t for it being my boyfriend s family. I am so thankful
and happy that I did get to experience this. I was scared and nervous at first, but this experience
has opened my eyes to so many more opportunities. This New Year s experience will be one that I
will never forget; it has intrigued me to learn much more about the Hispanic culture! Who knows

Randall Jarrell Poem
In his poems, Randall Jarrell creates feeling verging on sentimentality. The use of children as
characters or a child s point of view creates nostalgia every person can identify with. Childlike
themes like fairy tales or the use of dream work add to the nostalgia and sentiment. The personae
of the poems make them more dramatic, and distance Jarrell from the story of the poem, to add
the emotional effect that wouldn t be there if it were his own point of view. His main choices of
characters almost routinely being children, soldiers, invalids, or prisoners, all of whom are
people who suffer easily. The use of a suffering personae allows Jarrel to convey sympathy and
indignation for his character, his attitude toward those cornered beings who inhabit his poems is
invariably sympathetic; he never mocks them; he is never impatient ( Humphrey 124). It shows the
softer side to the stories, while they are conveyed by the broken and suffering, they are not
chastised or disrespected. His repetitive use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes he didn t quite reach it, but at his best moments he surpassed sentimentality. He tells
stories of loneliness, the world s failure to keep us, and failure to keep each other. (Williamson)All
of his poems could have childhood based meanings, rooting to woes of separation he experienced
himself. The child characters he uses are obvious objectifications of the fears and hostilities that
marred Jarrell s childhood as well as our own (Beck 177). He so accurately conveys the emotions
because he, like many others, personally experienced them. The themes of sentimentality carried
into his own life, which create the relatable emotions that are universally felt. His work is a story
that resonates with the earliest, most forgotten experiences of life (Williamson 204). The memories
of which lie in the subconscious, and are brought forth through his dream works, and their

hyperesthesia 81%, loss of tail and anal sphincter tone 57%, fever 52%, and ataxia and paresis of

(range, 1 to 7 days). Supportive treatment given had no effect on survival time and did not correlate
with the detection of Negri bodies at necropsy. Other diseases which present clinical symptoms
similar to rabies are tetanus, equine herpesvirus, botulism, lead poisoning, moldy corn poisoning,
protozoal myelitis, and trauma to the brain or spinal cord. Post mortem diagnosis can be made by
submitting the intact head refrigerated by wet ice but not frozen to diagnostic laboratory. Diagnosis
is performed using the fluorescent antibody (FA) test to stain sections of the brain for the presence
of rabies virus. A positive test means treatment should be started for anyone who has come in
contact with the rabid animal. There is no treatment of the rabies virus. Immediate cleansing of the
wound area may prevent infection. Post vaccination of the animal may not be useful as the horse
may die before immunity has time to develop. If a horse has been previously immunized, an
immediate booster should be given. Strict quarantine and observation for six months are mandatory
in all cases. If clinical symptoms develop, the horse should be

Washington set the standard for how future presidents should run the country and shaped the face of the nation for many years to come with his social life, the policies he established, and how he made the presidential office powerful. • 8. Rhyme Scheme Of Vasco Da Lasiad Vasco da Gama is the chief character in The Lusiads, but he is not its hero. The poem s title derives from Lusitania, the Roman name for the province that roughly encompasses present day Portugal. The nation of Portugal and all of its people are the true heroes of this patriotic epic. The Lusiads is written in ottava rima, a rhyme scheme of Italian origin that was commonly used in Renaissance epic poetry. An ottava rima stanza has eight lines with three rhymes, following the rhyme scheme abababcc. It is a flowing meter that allows the narrative to move smoothly, and the long, assonant rhymes have a kind of lulling quality. The Lusiads begins in medias res, or in the middle of the action. Vasco da Gama and his Portuguese crewmen are in the East African kingdom of Malindi, having survived rough weather and an ambush. The local king encourages Gama to recite the history of the Portuguese people, which he does, going back to ancient times. Gama tells the story of the Roman general Quintus Sertorius, whose successful rebellion drove a repressive regime out of Hispania (now Portugal and Spain). Gama then describes the growth of Portugal from a small principality to a significant European state. The story culminates in book 4, with the 1385 Battle of Aljubarrota, in which the Portuguese defeated the Spanish kingdom of Castile and restored the Portuguese monarch to the throne. CamГµes s patriotism is evident is his description of Portuguese general Nuno ГЃlvares Pereira s victory over Spain: O er Tago s waves his gallant band he led,And humbled Spain in every province bled;Sevilia s standard in his spear he bore,And Andulsia s ensigns kept in gore.Low in the dust distresst Castilia mourned,And bathed in tears each eye to heaven was turnedThe orphans, widows, and the hoary sires; And heaven relenting quench d the raging firesOf mutual hate. . . . After this battle, the Portuguese were able to launch overseas explorations, and these initial voyages are delineated in the poem. Finally, Gama tells the story of his own voyage, his circumnavigation of the Cape of Good Hope, which the Portuguese called the Cape of Storms. It is here that the most supernatural elements of the poem appear: Adamastor and a maritime apparition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(lines 1 6) Nabokov s character Humbert Humbert from Lolita is perfectly described in this stanza from Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. Nabokov compares Humbert to many poets throughout Lolita. Humbert likens himself to a Romantic poet with the intent of rationalizing his crime of pedophilia as an artistic endeavor. To Humbert, in particular, life really does imitate art. Art also imitates life. Nabokov created the character of Humbert in the image of Edgar Allan Poe . Humbert s life as a character closely resembles Poe s literary works of art, and Nabokov s art, the character of Humbert in Lolita, bears an interesting resemblance to Poe s true life. Edgar Allan Poe married his aunt s daughter Virginia, who at age thirteen was seven years his junior. Poe s aunt also happened to be his landlady at the time (Lepore). In the same way, Humbert started an explicit relationship with Charlotte s daughter, Dolores, age thirteen, after Charlotte s death. Charlotte was Humbert s landlady. This is an example of art imitating life. Humbert fancies himself a poet with discerning taste in nymphets, which excuses his preference for young girls because they are subhuman devils. Humbert ... In Plato s Symposium, sequential speeches praise the god of Love, but they stray from truth until Diotima s speech provides a permanent form in which love neither waxes nor wanes (Sym. 211A). Through the speeches, love shifts from identifying with the concrete to the abstract, but still ultimately advances goals of present: Phaedrus sees loveas helping men gain virtue, Aristophanes as only a promise to restore humans to their original nature and Pausanias and Eryximachus have to use two changing notions of love (Sym. 180B, 193D). In contrast, Diotima relates love as the closest humans can come to immorality, a future goal motivating us to seek completeness and an uninhibited timelessness. She uses this shift to explain love s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 211A). Diotima continues to rise towards abstract concepts as she attempts to explain love s purpose. This contrasts both Phaedrus and Aristophanes descriptions of love. She broadly states that a lover does not seek the half or whole unless it is good because people will even amputate, or separate, part of their own body if diseased (Sym. 205E). Aristophanes argues love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness but Diotima explains this cannot be true if the other half is bad, even if it seems to bring wholeness, such as bodies with a temporary veneer of beauty (Sym. 192E). So, love must be explained by separating it to an upwards trajectory, rising towards the concept of good. Otherwise love is only an impermanent promise (Sym. 193D). Therefore, Aristophanes lack of separation from the concrete cause love to come from incompleteness and a fallen condition (Dutton Lecture). Likewise, Phaedrus speech lacks a removal from the present and therefore fails to explain love s effects, as seen in his Achilles and Patroclus example. To Phaedrus, Achilles still dying after Patroclus passes is love, for no one will die for you but a lover (Sym. 179B). But, Diotima claims this love is unhealthy as it fails to represent the abstract notion of beauty. Since beauty is something to be indirectly experienced, it is unmeasurable and instead preserves ... However, the media often sensationalises crime in order to create moral panic within the community, using it as a way to control how the public perceives current community issues. Some people may be led to a blind acceptance of the reality of such presentations as constructed by the media (Crime and Justice, 2012, Pg. 63) Because a majority of the public have minimal experience with the judicial system, public knowledge and views of law and the legal system are dependent on media representations (N. Marder, 2001). General observation can quickly identify that the media almost always presents a distorted view of the law. The relationship between law and media is very complex and constantly evolving, however, it is clear that relatively few of us have experienced first hand the effects of serious criminal violence. (Crime and Justice, 2012) Our understanding of crime is predominantly derived from media and not from objective data, such as real time crime statistics or victimisation surveys. This is very problematic to members of a jury as it can be assumed that the majority of a jury have a distorted view of reality as Jurors are drawn from the community at large, so it is only to be expected that jurors will reflect the general social outlook and values of their communities. • 35. Life During The Renaissance Era The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism to Protestantism. By 1950 he had helped to strike down segregation in universities in several states. In 1951, the NAACP aided parents of black children attending public schools in Topeka, Kansas in attempting to overturn the state s segregation laws. After a three year court battle, the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of EducationTopeka culminated in the abolishment of school segregation laws in 21 states. Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent the students from entering Central High. The students attempted to stay on track with their education via correspondence courses and help from students of the local college for nearly three weeks as the NAACP fought their case in the courts. President Eisenhower met with the governor and convinced him to rescind the National Guard. The nine students once again tried to enter the school on September 23rd with a police escort but were met with a mob of over 1,000 angry whites calling for their deaths. After making their way into a side door, the Little Rock Nine were separated and sent to their first classes. Half way through the day the mob overpowered the police and the nine black students were rushed out of the building in two large cars as TV cameras showed the American people the chaos unfolding in Little Rock. The next day, President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered over 1000 men from the US Army s 101st Airborne division to protect the students. • 43. Japan s Attack On Pearl Harbor Essay World War Two was a conflict between the Axis powers (Germany, Japan and Italy) and the Allied powers (Great Britain, France, USSR, United States and China). The conflict was sparked when Hitler took over Poland during September of 1939. This invasion was the last straw for Hitler as the world had already warned him many times not to invade any more countries. As Germany waged war on Poland, days later, Britain, Canada and France had declared war on Germany. This was the official start of what is known as the deadliest war in the history of the world. As the fighting went on the Germans were doing very well until their ally, Japan, made a fatal mistake that would end up causing them the war. On December 7th 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was the United States naval base in Hawaii that housed a large amount of their naval fleet during the 1940 s. Japan s attack on Pearl Harbor was the breaking point for the United States, so they finally ended their times of being Isolationists and declared war on Japan and Germany just a day later. This was the most fatal mistake in the war for the Axis powers, because at the time, the US had immense wealth, weaponry and allies. If it were not for Japan s attack on Pearl Harbor, America may have never joined the war, however, because they did attack them, the US ended up winning the war for the Allied powers because of their advanced weaponry and technology. Because of the United States of America s involvement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The humiliating nature of enslavement, sexual savage exploitation, and degradation in autobiographical narratives of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs In the age of Romanticism, slavery and the slave trade provoked sharp criticism and controversy and played a very significant role in shaping public opinion and causing moral opposition to injustice and tyranny. Since Columbus s journey opened the doors of the Atlantic passage to African Slave Trade, slavery became man s greatest inhumanity to man converting the victims into labor and economic units of production. However, while Douglass mostly spoke about his black brothers and sisters as one whole the brotherhood , Jacobs in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself portrayed the wrongs inflicted by slavery in the eyes of women slaves and the sexual tyranny exerted by white slave masters over black women (Jacobs). Reader, be assured this narrative is no fiction...I was born and reared in Slavery...I do earnestly desire to arouse the women of the North to realizing sense of the condition of two millions of women at the South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse. (Jacobs) With these words, Harriet Ann Jacobs revealed her personal story of enslavement, sexual savage exploitation, and degradation. In appealing to white women to look at life from her perspective, Jacobs was hoping to portray the cruelty of slavery in the eyes of a woman. She did not talk about severe whipping or punishments like Douglass but rather Christmas which she could not spend with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How do the pigs rewrite history? In the book animal farm, Orwell very carefully created his characters in order to mimic certain political figures of the time. In this case Squealer functioned as the propaganda department. Squealer uses language to keep Napoleon in power. He uses language as a means to consolidate power, in this light truth is an element that can be manipulated through language. His use of language is designed to enhance the control that the pigs have over the rest of the farm. When squealer uses language as his weapon he constantly puts particular spins on events and conditions and he uses slogans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, together with Boxer s enormous strength, is what makes him a threat to the pigs; they desperately need him for his enormous capacity for work and example but, if that strength were to be turned against them because he unwittingly alerted the rest of the animals to their corruption, then their regime would be finished. This fact is why Boxer is viewed as a treat, despite being an ally napoleon ultimately took the first chance he had to get rid of boxer, and why his eventual fate comes about. Napoleon took full advantage of the disposal of Boxer and knew once he was gone the threat of Napoleon being over thrown was banished, Because even if the animals tried to revolt or protest, he would be able to take control with his almighty army of beast like dogs. While the betrayal of Boxer is not, the true climax, one could indeed construe this event in such a way that it legitimizes as an alternative climax. After all, the betrayal of Boxer is nearly equal in the importance to the banishment of Snowball, politically speaking. Of all of the Characters in Animal Farm, are there any who seem to represent the point of view of the author? Which animals or people do you think come(s) closet to achieving Orwell s perspective on Animal Farm? • 48. Billy Collins Poetry Analysis My analysis is on introduction to poetry by Billy Collins. Collins relays the message that readers should be patient and open minded when reading poems in order to see the meaning. Poetry is something to experience by going inside of it. There is a heavy use of metaphors in this poem. The first line, I ask them to take a poem and hold it up to the light like a color slide resembles that sometimes you have to look at something in a different way or in a different light in order to see the variations. Collins is asking the reader to look at the poem in a different way, not the way you would typically read something. I also interpret the color slide as not just a brightly colored picture, but also an image shown on a screen that makes you ask the questions what are they doing? Where are they? And what s going on in the picture? By referencing an image on the slide it also references something that holds image, and holds information that can appear dark or... The part of the poem that says I say drop a mouse into a poem and watch him probe his way out has great interpretation because sometimes it a poem you can get lost in all the different meanings. Collins wants you to get inside of the poem and really explore it. This also gives a clear image of a mouse in a maze working through our problem of how to get out. It s not a straight shot from the beginning of a poem to the end, it is an intricate maze. When the poem reads or walk inside the poem s room and feel the walls for a light switch is in reference to when you are in the dark about what the meaning is and you want the light of understanding to be turned on. Difference Between Poo2 And Sao2 For each of the four conditions below, give the expected changes (increased, decreased, or normal) for PaO2 and SpO2/SaO2 Condition PaO2 SpO2 / SaO2 Severe Anaemia PaO2 remains normal. Severe anaemia is caused by a reduced amount of RBCs in the body. Oxygen pressure only measures the free, unbound oxygen dissolved in the plasma. Since severe anaemia is deficient in RBCs (oxygen molecules bound in haemoglobin in an RBC), it does not affect the oxygen pressure. Likewise, SaO2 remains normal. The oxygen saturation measures the amount of oxygen molecules bound in the haemoglobin. Even if the the RBCs in the body are inadequate, the oxygen saturation can still be normal since the remaining RBCs can still maintain an adequate amount of haemoglobin ... • 51. Randall Jarrell Poem In his poems, Randall Jarrell creates feeling verging on sentimentality. The use of children as characters or a child s point of view creates nostalgia every person can identify with. Childlike themes like fairy tales or the use of dream work add to the nostalgia and sentiment. The personae of the poems make them more dramatic, and distance Jarrell from the story of the poem, to add the emotional effect that wouldn t be there if it were his own point of view. His main choices of characters almost routinely being children, soldiers, invalids, or prisoners, all of whom are people who suffer easily. The use of a suffering personae allows Jarrel to convey sympathy and indignation for his character, his attitude toward those cornered beings who inhabit his poems is invariably sympathetic; he never mocks them; he is never impatient ( Humphrey 124). It shows the softer side to the stories, while they are conveyed by the broken and suffering, they are not chastised or disrespected. His repetitive use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The child characters he uses are obvious objectifications of the fears and hostilities that marred Jarrell s childhood as well as our own (Beck 177).
