Measuring the Rate of Rotation in a Simple Electric Motor
Have you ever wondered how an electric motor works? If you have wondered and never got an
explanation this experiment will show you how it works. The objective of this project is to measure
the rate of rotation varying in the size of the magnets. For this project I will need 4 C batteries, a
permanent marker, laser tachometer, a metric ruler, scissors, a screwdriver, copper wire, wire cutters,
electrical tape and Neodymium magnets. This experiment is a simple example of how nearly every
electric motor works. It shows you how magnets and electricity can be used to generate movement.
There have been many people that have perfected the electric motor through time. Nikola Tesla was
the first to invent the AC (alternating current) induction motor in 1888. The AC (alternating current)
created magnetic poles that reversed themselves without mechanical aid, and caused the revolving part
of the electromagnet to spin around the motor. The concept that Tesla used in his motors are still used
today. Electric motors rely on the force of an electromagnet, as does every electric motor. An
electromagnet is created when a current flows through the copper wire. The electromagnet forms a
magnetic field around the coil. A magnetic field is the area around a magnet where its force can be
detected. This magnetic field causes another force which is called polarity. Polarity describes two
areas (north and south poles) of the magnet were the force of the magnet is the strongest.

While in college he organized Disco Dandiya in his own locality first of its kind in south Mumbai. It
was first popular trend that he picked on early and was able to capitalize on it. So as one grows and
starts to learn and understand life, he starts to question as well. At a very early stage, one starts
creating mental models to interpret various observations. At that point if one finds that what he has
learnt on his own is different from what is being practiced in reality. He tries to distinguish the right
from the wrong. He soon starts to seek answer to everything and then life transforms. So attitude of
questioning is very important. Until one questions the establish way of doing things, one won t be able
to come up with something new. Thus he left his family business and started his own journey
entrepreneurial journey..... He kept looking for beachheads to realize his dreams. He tried multiple
things that could be ideal for new India that was emerging. 3. DREAM OF THE LEADER His dream

American Independent Party Essay
As a current member of the conservative party, I feel the American Independent Party represents a
solid platform on promoting justice and democracy in the United States. The American Independent
Party started in 1967, by founder, Bill Shearer and his wife Eileen Shearer with the intention of
acknowledging a country under the protection and guidance of God as the Creator of all. They
established a set of theories and beliefs that include, but are not limited to; God given rights, duties to
individuals, freedom from liberalism, the protection of life, the rights of families, individual defense
and common defense. In accordance with the American Independent Party, my life would be greatly

The respected political scientist James Q. Wilson summarized this political reality in a single sentence:
Telling people who want clean air, a safe environment, fewer drug dealers, a decent retirement, and
protection against catastrophic medical bills that the government ought not to do these things is
wishful or suicidal politics. Along with Wilson, Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise
Institute, recently noted that the government social safety net for the truly indigent is one of the
greatest achievements of our society....We have to declare peace on the safety net. (National Summit

Why The Us Must Not Adopt Ifrs Essay
Reasons why the US Must Not Adopt IFRS
Globalization has been changing the world. It has interconnected people, nations, and even businesses.
Today´s business can share information to investors around the world thanks to the intelligent
software of the actual society. Being more specific, the way in which investors and users evaluate
businesses performance is through the information contemplated in their financial statements. These
financial statements illustrate the current assets, liabilities, and stockholder equity a company has in
order to help users take economic decisions. However, not all the companies are regulated to provide
the same structuralized information around the world. Each country possesses its own accounting
standard that regulates the preparation of financial statements of a company. In that way, companies
information might differ between countries making the comparability between financial statements
difficult to be implemented by users in order to assess the performance of foreign businesses. In view
of the need of a globally accepted accounting standard that promotes uniform standards for worldwide
financial reporting, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), which then becomes
replaced by the International Accounting Standard Board in 2001, was created (Cathey and Schroeder
130). The IASB issues International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) that stands as the set of
accounting standards that prepare and present the financial

Age Of Ultron Essay
Movies are categorized in different genres and the action genre of movies is interesting and appealing.
The action movie avengers age of ultron is an interesting piece since it is based on superhero
adventures. The story follows the ups and downs of superhero characters that are out to save the earth.
The action flick it triggered by the character Tony Stark jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program
that threatens the existence of earth. The superheroes reassemble to combat the situation and save
planet earth. Considering the story and characters, the analysis of the movie has a broad range of
elements to be considered. Some of the elements of analysis include character, sound and picture and
topic based analysis. Considering the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are five main characters in the movie that steer the flow of the movie from one scene to another.
The character of Tony Stark is defined as reckless considering he is the cause of the threat to earth. He
clumsily moves around a dormant peacekeeping bunker and triggers a hazard that calls for the
reassemble of superheroes that come to stop the risk. Tony Stark is equipped with a suit that allows
him to tackle adversities. The suit is made of iron and he activates it to give him the ability to fight.
Another character Thor is depicted as strong willed and a leader. He comes from a world outside earth
and is equipped with a hummer that responds to his touch. He uses his strength and hummer to combat
the activated antagonists. The character of black widow represents the female power and a sense of
calmness that the group needs to accomplish their mission. The character has the ability to fight and
work with the team. More so, she represents the feminist power in the same light that Thor represents
masculinity. Captain America is also a character in the movie that represents the soldier side of the
movie. He has the knowledge and capability of a soldier from an ancient America. He has a shield that
he uses to combat the challengers. Hulk is the supernatural being in the move that takes the audience
away from the norm and into the science fiction world. The five characters come together in a unique

Research Paper On Low Self Esteem
Low self esteem. What it can do to our minds and how can we improve it? Self esteem is when people
don t like certain aspects of themselves. Peoples self esteem is something that isn t brought up a lot.
However it should be. People don t really understand what low self esteem can do to our minds even
our health. Self esteem is our confidence and satisfaction in our own skin. Low self esteem can cause
someone to not like certain aspects our their body. It can cause them not to like themselves at all
wishing they were someone else, that they were skinner, taller and prettier. We all have something we
would like to change, but this is far more serious. It s to the point they feel as if they won t be happy
or people won t think they re pretty/handsome enough or good enough. With low self esteem it can
cause a person to have a large amount of rancor towards themselves. Low self esteem has been shown
to be correlated with a number of negative outcomes, such as depression ( McLeod 1 ).Without self
esteem or self confidence we will not feel comfortable in the body and flesh we were born with. Low
self esteem goes unnoticed way too often. My goal throughout this paper is to help people with low
self esteem know that they re not alone, they aren t the only ones who may not feel pretty in their skin
or comfortable. However, low self esteem doesn t just come out of nowhere it is the way we were
talked to and what we saw in our surrounding and what society has drilled into our

Khakis. The first time I heard this word, it struck me as something exotic. I immediately pictured
myself in untamed Africa, with its rolling deserts and open savannahs. I found myself fleeing from
ferocious lions, laden with fierce, golden manes, and whipping past small prairie dogs, hidden in the
sun dried grass. I sprinted across the path of an old acacia tree, just in time to look back and watch the
blistering African sun beginning to set, sending bright streaks of red and orange, over the horizon and
across the cloudless sky. I looked ahead and noticed a tent being erected in the distance. I saw people
shouting at me to hurry when, suddenly, the growling in my ears grew louder and louder and
then...laughter? Geez, Kevin! They re just pants! my friend busted out laughing. What? Pants? Yea,
everyone wears it here in New England, he replied, Hey, you should get a pair! Suddenly, everything

children, these people once wore shorts and lived with an imagination as limitless and boundless as

Perhaps they once had a dream that they could be and do anything they wanted, and the world

Continued moves to offshore locations are causing many consumers to look twice at companies that
use this tactic for an increased market share (Stones, 2003). The final issue identified is the possibility
of litigation by the Union officials.
Opportunity Identification There are many opportunities for Global Communications in moving
forward with its plan of action. The first opportunity is the possibility of increased technical
sophistication by partnering with a satellite provider to offer video services and a satellite version of
Broadband. This in turn will allow GC the opportunity to increased market share. By providing the
consumer with a more diverse product to choose from, GC will be able to gain a competitive edge in
the market and garner new customers in the process. Another opportunity found is the chance to cut
unit cost by outsourcing the call center to India or Ireland. This move will allow GC the chance to
become a key player in the global arena. It will also provide GC with a labor force that is technically
advanced to meet the needs of a growing market at a lower price (Rossheim, 2006). The combination
of all of these opportunities will provide GC with the much needed profitability capabilities to sustain
its operations for the next three years as well as produce a higher yield for stockholders.

The Odor Of Chrysanthemums Analysis
Literary representation of marriage and the response to the cultural conditions of said time are expertly
demonstrated in The Dead, The Odor of Chrysanthemums, and To Room Nineteen. There is a
tendency of marriage and the family to stultify individual desire in these three works. Through
subliminal details and the understanding of relationships during this time period of the middle 20th
century, it is evident how marriage, family life, and death are all important characteristics when
looking at the motivations and values of the main characters of The Dead, The Odor of
Chrysanthemums, and To Room Nineteen. A unifying factor between the three works is the
inauthentic love of marriage that occurs within each family in these literary ... Show more content on

Instead, the death of Walter makes Elizabeth realize that she did not know her husband. They were
married, lived together, and had two children and one on the way, but they might as well have been
strangers. Each did what they were supposed to do in the relationship, but Elizabeth was high strung
and Walter was on the verge of a drinking problem. This was a couple of circumstance and
convenience. Elizabeth felt countermanded. She saw him, how utterly inviolable he lay in himself.
She had nothing to do with him. She could not accept it (Greenblatt, p. 2494). The death of Walter
brought forth a realization for Elizabeth that would have to live with for the rest of her life: she was
going to be a single mother, but she was going to give these children a good life even though she did
not really know their father. Elizabeth may not have truly known her husband, but his death allowed
for Elizabeth to realize she needed to shield things from her children, like the fact that their dead

Music Recording Of Beethoven Egmont Ouverture, Bruch...
The piece I have chose to analyze is an online video recording of Beethoven Egmont Ouverture,
Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 and Mahler Symphony No. 1 preformed by the Royal Stockholm
Philharmonic Orchestra led by the conductor Christoph Eschenbach and violinist Ray Chen. Over the
101 minutes recording there are many great examples of the concepts learned in the course.
Throughout the piece I found myself taking the role of a referential listener. Which I believe to be
something I naturally am rather than it being a comment on the piece. While listening I found myself
hearing less of the music and instead picturing different landscapes in my head. In some parts I saw
beautiful fall forests, with changing leaf colors, and the wind blowing. ... Show more content on

Also it seems that both the instruments used and their arrangement amongst one another is done in a
way that resembles how it would have been originally played. The first piece, Beethoven Egmont
Ouverture, Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 was particularly good I thought and exhibited a lot of the
concepts we have studied in this course. For example unity, throughout the piece I felt that there was a
strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar. Even when there would be seemingly
unrelated ideas thrown in, I always felt that it was taken back to familiar ideas. Having said that there
was definitely a lot of variety in the piece. There were several ideas throughout, which sometime
would come back in a pattern while others would only make an appearance once. There was also a lot
of variety in the volume or dynamic of the piece which gave a nice variety to it. Additionally several
different instruments were used which gave several different timbres. The tempo also varied a lot
within the piece. Going from fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave
it a nice feel. The overall rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the
classical era of art (2). The second piece, Mahler Symphony No. 1 was not as good for me, although it
still exhibited a lot of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example

Irony in Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Essay examples
Irony in Young Goodman Brown Nathaniel Hawthorne s tale Young Goodman Brown is replete, is
saturated, with irony. This essay will amply illustrate the validity of this statement. At the outset of the
story a young Puritan husband departs at sunset from his young Puritan wife, And Faith, as the wife
was aptly named, thrust her own pretty head into the street, letting the wind play with the pink ribbons
of her cap, while she called to Goodman Brown. The author says that Faith is aptly named, an ironic
statement since she, later in the evening, is being received into the assembly of devil worshippers as a
new convert to the evil group. Not only is her name ironic, but also the description of her as pretty,
and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That he should criticize Faith in the very next sentence for doubting his intentions is, of course, ironic
since his intentions are thoroughly reprehensible. Though she is a beginning devil worshipper, Faith s
response to her husband uses the very language of a Puritan minister: Then God bless you! said Faith,
with the pink ribbons, and may you find all well, when you come back. Quite ironic. Likewise
Goodman s response to Faith is that of a devout Puritan sitting in the front row at church on Sunday
morning: Amen! cried Goodman Brown. Say thy prayers, dear Faith, and go to bed at dusk, and no
harm will come to thee. And his intentions are quite as evil as hers. As Goodman turns the corner at
the meeting house, his remorseful thoughts exalt the goodness of his wife: What a wretch am I, to
leave her on such an errand! She talks of dreams, too. Methought, as she spoke, there was trouble in
her face, as if a dream had warned her what work is to be done tonight. But, no, no! twould kill her to
think it. Well; she s a blessed angel on earth; and after this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow
her to Heaven. Ironically, Goodman regards her goodness as unimpeachable and sublime. In the next
sentence the author counterposes a good at the beginning of the sentence, and an evil at the end of the
same sentence for ironic effect: With this excellent resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt
himself

Persuasive Essay On Year Round School
As a student who use to attend a year round school, all schools should become year round. Year round
education will be an improvement for students who have never been in a year round school. There are
roughly 3,000 schools enrolled to Year Round Education and more than 2 millions students in those
Year Round schools in the United States. Year Round schooling would help students cut down on the
amount of stress they develop throughout the year. When having a long 3 month summer break you
will forget a lot of information that teachers had taught; but if you was to go to school for 9 weeks and
get out for 3 weeks to come back to school and start the next 9 weeks of school. More counties should

Stress is one of the main reason why students who go to traditional schools drop out or just don t come

school after the nine weeks unlike traditional schools.
Traditional schools make kids very stressed out and that s what makes the dropout rates goes up so
bad. Students can t handle all the work they have to do and they still have things to do outside of

In 1975, the Khmer Rouge invaded Phnom Penh. Lon Nol, the self proclaimed president of Khmer
Republic escaped Cambodia into exile. The Khmer Rouge won the Cambodian civil war and the

Communist Party of Kampuchea and was operating in remote mountain areas of Cambodia. The
Khmer Rouge mobilizes farmers, especially the youth, in rural areas for support. The Prince Sihanouk

deterred the party from gaining support from urban dwellers. The turning point came in 1970. A

If the cultural perspective still plays the major role, different leaders in different countries came into
power after a regime change would propose different rules. Nevertheless, phenomenon such as
repression of opponents, political manipulation and attempt to construct a new national identity have
been shared among many countries, such as China and Iran, after revolutions. Instead of trying to find
similar characters among leaders came into power during regime changes, scholars explaining
revolutions through a structural perspective think that the need of eliminating opponents was created
and people are carriers of structures. Since the case study demands both structural and cultural
theoretical explanation, the following literature review would address the discourse of the definition of
revolution, the rise of the structural theory, and the call for more analysis of agents. Revolution cannot
be regarded as a universal concept; under different social contexts and in a different time, both
Structuralism and cultural studies need to be considered to generate more substantive explanations.
Structuralism rose when earlier theoretical explanations could not set the definition of revolution and
could not explain why revolutions happened. Goldstone detailed the history of theoretical explanations
(Goldstone). In the 1920s and 1930s, scholars only studied successful revolutions and identified ten
common stages of the

White Elephant Symbolism
The short story Hills Like White Elephant starts with detailed description of a train station in Spain
which turns into a dialog between an unmarried couple about an abortion. The story setting plays a big
role in how the characters will act and how they will express their feelings. Along with the setting
location, the time also plays an important role in the story. Hemingway uses a lot of symbols and
figurative language of speech, so the time of the story was not clear for most of the readers. However,
the story happened during the mid day during a very hot summer day which has a very important
symbolism in the story. The mid day represents that the day is not over, which symbolizes that they
not have made they decision. The couple were at a critical moment of their relationship, which is
when they must decide whether or not to have an abortion. Certain themes arise from this story such
as choices and their consequences, doubt and ambiguity. The hills across the valley of the Ebro were
long and white. On this side there was no shade and no trees and the station was between two lines of
rails in the sun. [...] The American and the girl with him sat at a table in the shade, outside the
building. It was very hot and the express from Barcelona would come in forty minutes. It stopped at
this junction for two minutes and went to Madrid (Page 176) The girl views having the child as a

1960s Counterculture Movement
The Time of Rebirth: Counterculture Movements Woodstock, psychedelics, and Rock n Roll were all
a major point in the 1960s counterculture movement. Many icons like Janis Joplin rose to their fame
during this era. The hippie movement, even 60 years later, is a major landmark in history and pieces of
the past can be seen in many different ways. Why are counterculture movements so infamous and
what purpose do they serve? Do counterculture movements establish a certain principle or are they
simply a rebellion against society? I feel as though counterculture movements take place for a reason.
Counterculture movements are more than a rebellion and help bring out the issue that everyone tends
to keep quiet about. Without counterculture movements, societies would be forced to stay within the
limits of what others dictate as right or wrong. The beginning of the 1960s was a time of economic
growth and a time of prosperity ( Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll 00:01:59). Important things came out
of the decade, for example civil rights. The decade itself was a time of movement for not only blacks,
but also for women and those who sought a life outside of social norms. Feminism in the 60s and the
civil rights movement both fed into the historical 1960s counterculture movement. The historical
counterculture movement began to simmer throughout the sixties and slowly came to a head. Things

The Effect Of Environmental And Genetics On The...
One of these oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the debate of whether or not ones
environment or genetic background plays more of a role in the development of a person. Both nature
and nurture have been proven to play an important role in one s development. Nature is what we think
of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is
generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure,
experience and learning on an individual. Throughout this paper the effects of environmental and
genetics factors on a person will be discussed, and one will learn how they aid in the development of a
person. It has long been established that certain physical characteristics are biologically determined by
genetic inheritance. Color of eyes, the texture and color of one s hair, pigmentation of the skin and
certain diseases are all a function of the genes we inherit. Other physical characteristics, if not
determined, appear to be at least strongly influenced by the genetic make up of our biological parents.
Characteristics such as height, weight, hair loss, life expectancy and vulnerability to specific illnesses
are positively correlated between genetically related individuals. These facts have led many to
speculate as to whether psychological characteristics such as behavioral tendencies, personality
attributes and mental abilities are also established in an individual before he is even

At first, when I arrived at Dogwood I was not fully comfortable with the assignment, or rather the idea
that I was going to spend thirty minutes reflecting statically. I have never been the person that is best

The Importance Of Trust In The Movie Finding Forrester
In the movie Finding Forrester, the amount of trust in someone can be shown upon how good of a
relationship one has with another. Jamal, a high school student, secretly has a passion for writing.
Dared by friends, Jamal sneaks into an apartment and accidentally forgets his book bag. When he
returns to the apartment the next day, he not only finds numerous edits within his writings, but he also
figures the mystery of who lives in the apartment. Jamal finds out that a guy by the name of William
Forrester lives in the apartment and was a former author himself. Forrester is an older man who agrees
to mentor Jamal in writing, and agrees to continue to revise and edit his papers. As Jamal visits
Forrester more often, their relationship grows along with the trust they have in one another. In Finding
Forrester, being in comfortable settings will allow relationships and trust to develop as individuals
grow with one another. As people s relationships grow, the amount of trust in eachother becomes
greater. Movielocity (2001) stated, Jamal encounters not only his first fan, but a mentor who will
challenge and change him forever, and Forrester has his first reason in years to emerge from his self
imposed solitude (p. 1). Forrester and Jamal rely on each other in multiple aspects of life; therefore, as
their relationship grows, trust grows along with it. Jamal pushes Forrester outside of his comfort zone
by bringing him out into public for the first time in 40 years. For his birthday,

The Importance Of Peace In John KnowlesA Separate Peace
In John Knowles A Separate Peace, Gene and Finny, best friends, have two more years of innocence
before they have to fight in the brutal war enveloping the world. In their free time, they do foolish
things, like jumping off trees and playing dangerous games. But in the back of their minds, they know
that in a couple years, they are off to fight, like the seniors they know. Consequently, the prestigious
Devon School will start training the two young boys for their near future. The war going on impacts
the book in many ways such as marking the end of Gene and Finny s childhood, discussing the lives
of the seniors, and developing the boys carefree summer. The summer of 1942 signified the last
summer of Gene and Finny s childhood. Since they are going off to war the next year, they decided to
take advantage of their last summer. Gene explains, We spent that summer in complete selfishness, I
m happy to say. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small
band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. (Knowles 30) They are allowed to be selfish because next
summer they know they won t have the same opportunity as they do now, so they are spending it the
best they can. Also, When Finny was reading the newspaper he found a section about the war. He told
Gene, I was reading in the paper that we bombed central Europe for the first time the other day.
(Knowles 25) That supports the thought that the boys might be the ones bombing Europe next year,

City of Thieves by David Bienoff
City of Thieves starts off with Lev Beniov sitting atop his roof, on a firefighting detail, under the
German siege of Leningrad in Kirov, Russia. As he sits on top of his building s roof with his friends
Vera Osiponva, and the Antokolsky twins they listen to anti aircraft fire, and they see a paratrooper
falling to the ground. The group hops the Kirov gate, and runs towards the paratrooper s landing sight,
realizing he is drifting to the ground dead. They began looting his body, and as Lev got a German
knife from the man, the GAZ turned on Voinova Street, and they had to run. While running back to
Kirov, Vera slipped, and Lev had to go and get her. As he helped her over the fence, the GAZ grabbed
him. Since it was after curfew, he believed execution was inevitable. He was taken to Piter s prison
called the Crosses with no light or sound. Soon, a Russian officer named Kolya was thrown in the cell
with him. In the morning, the two prisoners were taken to a mansion with NKVD officers in it. The
Colonel had a mission for the prisoners. He took their ration cards, and told Kolya and Lev they had
until Thursday to get one dozen eggs. On that Saturday morning, Kolya and Lev had left their lives on
the line for a dozen eggs. The middle of this novel begins when Kolya tells Lev that they should try
looking in the Haymarket for any eggs. They searched through the Haymarket, and they find nothing.
As they reach the end of their search, a boy tells them of a man who keeps a coop of

The Notorious Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Essay
Mark Twain was a celebrated writer during his lifetime and is still today long past his death. One of
Twain s famous works titled, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is a prime example of
local color writing done during the 19th century. Twain s novel shows the average person what life
and the people in rural America are like. The story takes place in a gold mining camp in Calaveras
County, California during the 1850s. Out west was still very rural and full of many different types of
characters. Additionally, most people who lived out there had an accent and verbage similar to that of
the modern day southern United States. The characters themselves show the type of place Calaveras
county was, with the main character Smiley being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the person who ends up beating is a man from out of town but still from the area. These
characters are small town folk, and close to one another they go so far as to know most each other by
name and reputation. The dialogue also shows how this story is a great example of local color. The
characters have quite an accent that at times can be hard to read and understand. An example of the
local accent through the stranger is I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other
frog (104). A more educated person would have more coherent and well put together sentence than
what the stranger uttered. Many characters in the story have accents similar to the strangers and this
really shows the difference between the world and the southern United States. The story itself uses
irony in the form of dramatic irony as we know that the stranger fills Smiley s frog with buckshot
making it unable to jump while Smiley is none the wise until after. Additionally, the style of humor is
very American. Twain wrote in another story that humor that is subtle and not thrown in the face of the

Nationalism And Imperialism

Imperialism
Imperialism is the act of dominating a society or a group. It involves the subjugation of a population.
It dictates the political and economic advantage over a land and the indigenous people they control. A
society is introduced to concepts of industrialization and they are pressured or forced to imitate the
culture of the industrialized country so that they can reach civilization. Since the industrial revolution
had taken place, the Europeans were in need of more natural resources. The Europeans wanted
economic expansion because they were facing overproduction and underconsumption. Social
Darwinism was another factor that led the colonization. Imperialism was helpful to a country but also
had been very detrimental to the cultures inner mentality by removing previous traditions that were
practiced and replacing it with the colonizers traditions. In the book, Nectar in a Sieve it is shown how
many native traditions were gradually torn away from India because of the invasive British rule. The
story focuses on a poor woman, Rukmani (Ruku), as well as her friends and family, as India goes
through this change. The characters suffer crushing poverty. They re stripped of their lives in the face
of huge global changes that have left them behind. Imperialism reflects dominance as it shows
tremendous inequalities between nations. Imperialists will imperialize a country to gain raw materials
for their own benefit. There was tremendous demand in Europe for Chinese tea, silks, and porcelain
pottery, but there was correspondingly little demand in China for Europe s manufactured goods and
other trade items. Consequently, Europeans had to pay for Chinese products with gold or silver. The
opium trade, which created a steady demand among Chinese addicts for opium exported by the West,
solved this chronic trade imbalance. Levels of opium addiction grew so high that it began to affect the
Chinese troops and the official classes. The efforts of the Qing dynasty to enforce the opium
restrictions resulted in two armed conflicts between China and the West, known as the Opium Wars,
both of which China lost and this resulted in various measures

Muniba Mazari Speech Analysis
Muniba Mazari s speech is very emotionally powerful. It reminded me of a bumper sticker with the
quote well behaved women seldom make history that I saw a few days ago on a car. In both of these
cases, the concept of conforming to the traditional conventions of femininity is strongly discouraged.
Mazari, for instance, was astonishingly able to muster the strength to change from being a passive and
compliant female to the strong, independent woman she is today. As a result, despite having
experienced a horrendous car accident that completely altered her life, she overcame her new
disabilities and even bettered her life. Muniba Mazari would have continued to be stuck inside an

Thanksgiving Tradition Analysis
For families across the United States, Thanksgiving is a holiday to come together with family and
loved ones to celebrate the good things life has to offer. Before analyzing my own family s
Thanksgiving celebration, I thought that our type of festivities were normal to most families. While
some of the traditions of the holiday say something about our society as a whole, I was also able to
view the implicit meanings of my family s specific actions. This analysis made me realize that while
our society is attempting to move forward and break norms, they are still heavily present within our
everyday subconscious actions. Although I am grateful I was able to come to this realization, it

Although I was well versed and knowledgeable on the topic due to my studies in Design this quarter, I
chose to not speak up and join the debate because I did not view myself on the same level as both my

powerful than them. This depicts how power and dominance allows for hierarchy, even within
families. The conversations that I engaged in were also less intellectually stimulating, with my family
mostly asking about how college was, rather than my opinions on deeper matters. This shows that
even their treatment of me as the youngest reiterates the implicit hierarchical structure. The different
treatment between older members of my family and me is similar to George Gmelch s piece,
Birthdays, Basketball, and Breaking Bread: Negotiating with Class in Contemporary Black America.
The people of higher economic and social status in this piece treat their friends of lower status and
higher status differently, similar to how my family treats members of different ages. The act of
unequal treatment illustrates how our society continues to promote status and hierarchy, even though

Twin Family Studies
Researchers that have investigated social phobia has also suggested that family factors may be
responsible for social phobia, but in a biological way. Twin and family studies on social phobia has
suggested that genetic factors play an important role in the development of social phobia at any stage
of a human life. As twin studies are designed to specifically differentiate the two twin s behaviour.
Comparisons between twins has resulted in the conclusion that there is a concordance rate between
twins and that genetic factors plays a limited role in the chances of developing social phobia. An

directly suggest that the infants suffer from social phobia as they cannot verbally express anything, it
is only fair to argue that since infants rarely interact with any outside factors because of their weak
immune systems they are the least influenced by environmental factors and therefore should provide
the more reliable results than individuals at other ages. The results of the research showed that infant
shyness was found to be significantly correlated with shyness in biological mothers but was not as
correlated with shyness in adopted mothers. Other twin studies such as Rose and Ditto (1983) also
submitted evidence of the concurrence rate in fear between monozygotic and dizygotic twins during
adolescence. The results suggested that the concurrence rate of fear was higher in monozygotic twins
than in dizygotic twins, also the researchers revealed that a twin s fearfulness could be predicted from

Essay on Walt Whitman s Song of Myself
Walt Whitman s Song of Myself
This paper deals with Walt Whitman s Song of Myself in relation to Julia Kristeva s theories of
abjection my paper does not point to abjection in the text, but rather the significance of the abscence
of abjection. This abscence, looming and revolting, arises from Whitman s attemt to refigure a
conception of sublimity which delimits the material which can trigger the sublime moment. Whitman
s democracy of the sublime is inclusive of those figures on the American landscape, their lives and
voices, which are functionalized into his world. This paper employs the theories of George Lukacs and
Julia Kristeva allow the unearthing of the archeological layers of Whitman s text.

It lies there, quite close, but it cannot be assimilated. It beseeches, worries, and fascinates desire,
which, nevertheless, does not let itself be seduced. [1]
The strange elegance of this specter looms in the relief, in the archaic layers of Song of Myself. It is
beyond the foregrounded inversive space at times utopic and sublime, the space is permeated with
universal brotherhood, happiness, the compelled sentimental that I attempt to delve into, that source
from which generates the repulsive, hidden quivering of a text which, though cast out and forced into
absence, looms in the shadowed relief. The edification of his text and of his readership is attempted
through the construction of an inversive space which refigures the sublime: the apex of the cultured. I
have chosen those moments in the text in which the poet nears the threshold of bordering abject in
order to construct his sublime utopian vision. It is here, this marked refigurement where ecstasy
occurs, where material which triggers the sublime is the signal of another text; a repulsive reading
looms from the absence of abjection
An invocation of the self begins Song of Myself, positioning the text as an edification of the American
readership: I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what assume you shall assume, For every atom
belonging to me as god belongs to you (lines 1 3). Thus Whitman s work joins with the

some aspect. However, I relate mostly with the constructivist theory and have seen the benefits of this
theory play out in my own classroom.

book Frog and Toad are best friends who enjoy different adventures together. It is a wonderful
example of friendship and loyalty. For this particular lesson students were analyzing their character
traits. As I was observing and participating in discussions around the classroom, I realized that many
of the students were wondering about the difference between a frog and toad and wondering if the
characters in the book reflected these differences. These insights made me realize that we should shift
the focus and research these differences. I contacted the librarian and he suggested I read them All

When my grandma couldn t have children she adopted my dad, uncle, and aunt. I love them all, but I

Children across the world have to stay in a center or orphanage for a long time, even when a person
wants to adopt them. In some countries you have to live there for at least 4 years and then you re able

Despite this idea, That reason is absolutely not valid because people can always get a loan and if the

Overseas Orphans. claims that children who get adopted learn love. Providing a loving and safe

John Donne And Gertrude Stein s Poetry Analysis
In poetry, poets can shape every component (words, syntax, rhythm, punctuation, etc.) to convey a
unique meaning. Small changes in such elements can have drastic effects on what the reader will draw
from the poem. Often, poets will rely on some tools more than others to try and convey their meaning.
Many times, the period in which the poet is writing will strongly influence how the poet uses these
elements. John Donne and Gertrude Stein are considered shapers of metaphysical poetry and modern
poetry respectively, and the way they manipulate their poetry reflects the ideas of their literary
periods. Gertrude Stein, as a cubist poet, plays with diction, syntax, and punctuation to impart
meaning. Meanwhile, John Donne, as a metaphysical poet, relies more on the use of imagery and
conceits to illustrate the purpose of his poems. Inspired by modern artists like Pablo Picasso, Gertrude
Stein was determined to create portraits that captured the present moment and transcribe them into
poetry. During her education at Harvard, Stein began to experiment with different methods to try and
achieve her goal. One of these methods that would strongly influence her future work was automatic
writing. Automatic writing consists of the author attempting to write down words without consciously
knowing what is being written. In a letter written by Stein, she rejected the idea of automatic writing
as writing for the normal person is too complicated an activity to be indulged in automatically

Murder Capital Of The World
In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase in homicides.
Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding 3,000 murders reported in 2010
compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder capital of
the world during these years. The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the
current reigning rival Sinaloa Cartel spurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route.
Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman Loera has surpassed
the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez s territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups
are to blame for the colossal amount of murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one
organized crime group in the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this
border city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio CastaĂąeda, a
Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, So far this year (2015) there have been 89 killings (Valencia).
Fighting organized crime will always be an international challenge, but the war against organized
crime in Mexico and along the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it
has been in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be minimized, the

Red Giants Research Paper
Nolan Harris
Red Giants
Red giants are dying stars that are in their last part of stellar evolution. Every star will eventually turn
into a red giant over some point in time. Stars turn into red giants when there is no more hydrogen fuel
for the star. Inside of a star, hydrogen goes through a process called nuclear fusion where hydrogen is
getting converted into helium. Nuclear fusion helps create energy for the star so that the force of
gravity isn t crushing the star together. This is also the reason why stars are bright. When the star runs
out of hydrogen to convert into helium, the energy that kept the star from collapsing is now gone.
Gravity then takes over and compresses the star. From this point, the helium atoms are able to
combine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are very luminous stars that have a relatively cool surface temperature compared to the stars in
the main sequence that have about the same luminosity. Red giants typically have low to intermediate
mass than a regular star, even though they are about 1000 times larger in the red giant phase of stellar
evolution. Red supergiants are known as the biggest stars by radius. The biggest red supergiant is
mentioned as VY Canis Majoris. This star is about 1800 times bigger than our sun. Although there are
plenty of red giants in space, none of them are that close to us. The closest red giant is Gamma Crucis
(88 light years away).3
We do not have to worry about the world ending due to the sun becoming a red giant anytime in our
lifetime, but plenty of them are out there. Red giants are a very interesting part in stellar evolution as
we have gained lots of knowledge about them over history. Our knowledge of these stars helps us
understand stars and their stellar evolution that much more.

Comparative of Henrik Ibsen´s A Doll´s House and...
Within one s lifetime, the mark to finding oneself is being able to overcome hardships and difficulties
in order to unravel the full potential concealed within them. From being manipulated and deceived,
this manages to bring about an ability hidden within oneself that can only be triggered by experiencing
what it is like to be a victim of deception. In A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and As You Like It by
William Shakespeare, each author entraps their protagonists with the role of being manipulative or the
victim of being manipulated to further enhance the author s purpose of revealing or unlocking the
hidden potential that arose within the characters. Throughout A Doll s House, Torvald views Nora s
actions as being deceiving not only towards him but also towards her family. However, Nora gain her
perspective on her own actions and begins observing it differently than Torvald s. The play states, It
was me they told that his life was in danger...well, well, I thought, you ve got to be saved somehow.
And then I thought of a way , (Ibsen 35 36). Within Nora s and Mrs. Linde s private conversation,
Nora conveys that her manipulation of money revealed how she deceives her husband even though it
was in good intent to save his life. In addition, this demonstrates Nora s willingness to think about
others, such as her husband, before realizing for herself that there were going to be consequences for
her later on. Within the play, Nora states, You have never understood me. A

Atheists Beliefs Of Atheism
Atheism is religion where you believe that there is no god(s). Atheism comes from the ancient greek
word atheos which means with out gods/godless. Atheists believe that there is no god because there is
not hard evidence to prove that there is one and actually have evidence against a god. This is backed
up by scientific, philosophical and ideological notions. It is believed that atheism started in Europe
and Asia sometime in the 5th/6th century when some tribes where observed to have no rituals or rites.
Atheism has only grown stronger since then for as science and philosophy has progressed so has the
notion of no gods. This is also partly due to advocates in high up places.
Atheists believe that suffering is normal and can happen in different

Essay on Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost was inspired to write Mending Wall after talking with one of his farming friend Napoleon
Guay. He learned from talking with his neighbor that writing in the tones of real life is an important
factor in his poetic form (Liu,Tam). Henry David Thoreau once stated that, A true account of the
actual is the purest poetry. Another factor that might have played a role in inspiring Frost to write this
poem was his experience of living on a farm as a small boy. Mending Wall was published in 1915
along with a collection of Frost s poems in North of Boston. Theme Statements Nature dissolves the
barriers that humanity erects. The purpose of the wall in this poem was to isolate one s ... Show more

Apples come and go with the seasons, but pines are forever and never out of season. Change
instinctively challenges and questions the ideals of tradition. In order to change, one must first break
tradition. But, in the poem the old man does not want to change and break tradition. The person who is
willing to question tradition and confront the problem is the young man. He uses those w words to ask
the question, There where it is we do not need the wall, and Why do they make good
neighbors...Where are the cows? The youth is asking logical questions, but is rebutted with the answer
that, Good fences make good neighbors . The youth challenges the old man to say what is on his mind,
but the old man is an, old stone savage armed, who, has no ideas of his own and, moves in the
darkness, of the traditions he follows. Tone Narrative and explanations (lines 1 22) In these lines,
Frost is introducing the setting, characters, and the conflicts to the reader. We also get an explanation
about how, Something there is that doesn t love a wall, and how the wall has been damaged to the
point where, gaps even two can pass abreast. The reader is also introduced to the attitudes of the
characters, and how they feel towards the wall. The youth is curious and jolly in the beginning,
thinking it as a game. But, the old man is a complete opposite, he doesn t say much and gets right to

Causes Of The Red Scare
Fearing Control Would you want to live in a society where you didn t have any freedom, and were
being controlled by your government? Americans in the late 1940 s to late 1950 s certainly didn t.
Their government wanted to control the possessions people had and how they acted politically,
economically, and socially in their everyday lives. The Americans worried about this state of having
no freedom. This created a fear that spread all over the United States, called the Red Scare. During the
Red Scare, people worried about communism becoming part of the U.S. and feared the influencers
that fueled it to become a countrywide panic. What is The Red Scare? The Red Scare is fear resulting
from communists wanting to control citizens. From 1919 to 1921, The First Red Scare occurred in
which Americans feared the Soviet Union s idea of communism spreading to The United States. After
this panic was resolved, there was another epidemic of fear called The Second Red Scare. This lasted
from 1947 to 1957 and was driven by the panic of communism growing and spreading in The United
States. The Second Red Scare was perpetuated by international events and dismay such as the Korean
War and fear of the Soviet Union s nuclear weapon capabilities. From this, the House Un American
Activities Committee was formed. The committee s purpose was to investigate alleged communists
and infiltrators within the government, subcommittees, and Hollywood. Americans also felt the effects

  • 2. Measuring the Rate of Rotation in a Simple Electric Motor Have you ever wondered how an electric motor works? If you have wondered and never got an explanation this experiment will show you how it works. The objective of this project is to measure the rate of rotation varying in the size of the magnets. For this project I will need 4 C batteries, a permanent marker, laser tachometer, a metric ruler, scissors, a screwdriver, copper wire, wire cutters, electrical tape and Neodymium magnets. This experiment is a simple example of how nearly every electric motor works. It shows you how magnets and electricity can be used to generate movement. There have been many people that have perfected the electric motor through time. Nikola Tesla was the first to invent the AC (alternating current) induction motor in 1888. The AC (alternating current) created magnetic poles that reversed themselves without mechanical aid, and caused the revolving part of the electromagnet to spin around the motor. The concept that Tesla used in his motors are still used today. Electric motors rely on the force of an electromagnet, as does every electric motor. An electromagnet is created when a current flows through the copper wire. The electromagnet forms a magnetic field around the coil. A magnetic field is the area around a magnet where its force can be detected. This magnetic field causes another force which is called polarity. Polarity describes two areas (north and south poles) of the magnet were the force of the magnet is the strongest. The movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why The Us Must Not Adopt Ifrs Essay Reasons why the US Must Not Adopt IFRS Globalization has been changing the world. It has interconnected people, nations, and even businesses. Today´s business can share information to investors around the world thanks to the intelligent software of the actual society. Being more specific, the way in which investors and users evaluate businesses performance is through the information contemplated in their financial statements. These financial statements illustrate the current assets, liabilities, and stockholder equity a company has in order to help users take economic decisions. However, not all the companies are regulated to provide the same structuralized information around the world. Each country possesses its own accounting standard that regulates the preparation of financial statements of a company. In that way, companies information might differ between countries making the comparability between financial statements difficult to be implemented by users in order to assess the performance of foreign businesses. In view of the need of a globally accepted accounting standard that promotes uniform standards for worldwide financial reporting, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), which then becomes replaced by the International Accounting Standard Board in 2001, was created (Cathey and Schroeder 130). The IASB issues International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) that stands as the set of accounting standards that prepare and present the financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tony Stark is equipped with a suit that allows him to tackle adversities. The suit is made of iron and he activates it to give him the ability to fight. Another character Thor is depicted as strong willed and a leader. He comes from a world outside earth and is equipped with a hummer that responds to his touch. Peoples self esteem is something that isn t brought up a lot. However it should be. People don t really understand what low self esteem can do to our minds even our health. Self esteem is our confidence and satisfaction in our own skin. Low self esteem can cause someone to not like certain aspects our their body. It can cause them not to like themselves at all wishing they were someone else, that they were skinner, taller and prettier. We all have something we would like to change, but this is far more serious. It s to the point they feel as if they won t be happy or people won t think they re pretty/handsome enough or good enough. With low self esteem it can cause a person to have a large amount of rancor towards themselves. Low self esteem has been shown to be correlated with a number of negative outcomes, such as depression ( McLeod 1 ).Without self esteem or self confidence we will not feel comfortable in the body and flesh we were born with. Low self esteem goes unnoticed way too often. My goal throughout this paper is to help people with low self esteem know that they re not alone, they aren t the only ones who may not feel pretty in their skin or comfortable. The first opportunity is the possibility of increased technical sophistication by partnering with a satellite provider to offer video services and a satellite version of Broadband. This in turn will allow GC the opportunity to increased market share. By providing the consumer with a more diverse product to choose from, GC will be able to gain a competitive edge in the market and garner new customers in the process. For example unity, throughout the piece I felt that there was a strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar. There were several ideas throughout, which sometime would come back in a pattern while others would only make an appearance once. The tempo also varied a lot within the piece. Going from fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave it a nice feel. The overall rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the classical era of art (2). That he should criticize Faith in the very next sentence for doubting his intentions is, of course, ironic since his intentions are thoroughly reprehensible. Though she is a beginning devil worshipper, Faith s response to her husband uses the very language of a Puritan minister: Then God bless you! said Faith, with the pink ribbons, and may you find all well, when you come back. Quite ironic. Likewise Goodman s response to Faith is that of a devout Puritan sitting in the front row at church on Sunday morning: Amen! cried Goodman Brown. Say thy prayers, dear Faith, and go to bed at dusk, and no harm will come to thee. And his intentions are quite as evil as hers. As Goodman turns the corner at the meeting house, his remorseful thoughts exalt the goodness of his wife: What a wretch am I, to leave her on such an errand! She talks of dreams, too. Methought, as she spoke, there was trouble in her face, as if a dream had warned her what work is to be done tonight. But, no, no! twould kill her to think it. Well; she s a blessed angel on earth; and after this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven. Ironically, Goodman regards her goodness as unimpeachable and sublime. Nevertheless, phenomenon such as repression of opponents, political manipulation and attempt to construct a new national identity have been shared among many countries, such as China and Iran, after revolutions. Instead of trying to find similar characters among leaders came into power during regime changes, scholars explaining revolutions through a structural perspective think that the need of eliminating opponents was created and people are carriers of structures. Since the case study demands both structural and cultural theoretical explanation, the following literature review would address the discourse of the definition of revolution, the rise of the structural theory, and the call for more analysis of agents. Revolution cannot be regarded as a universal concept; under different social contexts and in a different time, both Structuralism and cultural studies need to be considered to generate more substantive explanations. Structuralism rose when earlier theoretical explanations could not set the definition of revolution and could not explain why revolutions happened. • 15. White Elephant Symbolism The short story Hills Like White Elephant starts with detailed description of a train station in Spain which turns into a dialog between an unmarried couple about an abortion. The story setting plays a big role in how the characters will act and how they will express their feelings. Along with the setting location, the time also plays an important role in the story. Hemingway uses a lot of symbols and figurative language of speech, so the time of the story was not clear for most of the readers. However, the story happened during the mid day during a very hot summer day which has a very important symbolism in the story. The mid day represents that the day is not over, which symbolizes that they not have made they decision. The couple were at a critical moment of their relationship, which is when they must decide whether or not to have an abortion. Certain themes arise from this story such as choices and their consequences, doubt and ambiguity. The hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white. Why are counterculture movements so infamous and what purpose do they serve? Do counterculture movements establish a certain principle or are they simply a rebellion against society? I feel as though counterculture movements take place for a reason. Counterculture movements are more than a rebellion and help bring out the issue that everyone tends to keep quiet about. Without counterculture movements, societies would be forced to stay within the limits of what others dictate as right or wrong. The beginning of the 1960s was a time of economic growth and a time of prosperity ( Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll 00:01:59). Important things came out of the decade, for example civil rights. The decade itself was a time of movement for not only blacks, but also for women and those who sought a life outside of social norms. One of these oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the debate of whether or not ones environment or genetic background plays more of a role in the development of a person. Both nature and nurture have been proven to play an important role in one s development. Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual. Throughout this paper the effects of environmental and genetics factors on a person will be discussed, and one will learn how they aid in the development of a person. It has long been established that certain physical characteristics are biologically determined by genetic inheritance. Color of eyes, the texture and color of one s hair, pigmentation of the skin and certain diseases are all a function of the genes we inherit. Other physical characteristics, if not determined, appear to be at least strongly influenced by the genetic make up of our biological parents. Characteristics such as height, weight, hair loss, life expectancy and vulnerability to specific illnesses are positively correlated between genetically related individuals. These facts have led many to speculate as to whether psychological characteristics such as behavioral tendencies, personality attributes and mental abilities are also established in an individual before he is even ... I think that it is very important to realize that taking a break and then having the energy to produce better work later is more effective than constantly working and putting in less effort. This experience has taught me that I need to start slowing down my own life more, and that being an effective leader means that you need to support others as well as yourself. As we discussed in class, there are a multitude of characteristics that define a good leader, but one that has always stood out to me are those that are compassionate and supportive of those around them. I have always believed in the phrase to lead by example and I believe that by showing others it is okay to slow down as the Ted talk said, as well as being more supportive in my structured style will allow those that work with me to lead a healthier more effective life. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. An example of the local accent through the stranger is I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other frog (104). A more educated person would have more coherent and well put together sentence than what the stranger uttered. • 27. Nationalism And Imperialism Ananya Chilakamarthi World Studies Ms. Morgan Mr. Kakes 8 December 2017 Imperialism Imperialism is the act of dominating a society or a group. It involves the subjugation of a population. It dictates the political and economic advantage over a land and the indigenous people they control. A society is introduced to concepts of industrialization and they are pressured or forced to imitate the culture of the industrialized country so that they can reach civilization. Since the industrial revolution had taken place, the Europeans were in need of more natural resources. The Europeans wanted economic expansion because they were facing overproduction and underconsumption. Social Darwinism was another factor that led the colonization. Imperialism was helpful to a country but also had been very detrimental to the cultures inner mentality by removing previous traditions that were practiced and replacing it with the colonizers traditions. In the book, Nectar in a Sieve it is shown how many native traditions were gradually torn away from India because of the invasive British rule. The story focuses on a poor woman, Rukmani (Ruku), as well as her friends and family, as India goes through this change. The characters suffer crushing poverty. They re stripped of their lives in the face of huge global changes that have left them behind. Imperialism reflects dominance as it shows tremendous inequalities between nations. Imperialists will imperialize a country to gain raw materials for their own benefit. There was tremendous demand in Europe for Chinese tea, silks, and porcelain pottery, but there was correspondingly little demand in China for Europe s manufactured goods and other trade items. Consequently, Europeans had to pay for Chinese products with gold or silver. The opium trade, which created a steady demand among Chinese addicts for opium exported by the West, solved this chronic trade imbalance. Levels of opium addiction grew so high that it began to affect the Chinese troops and the official classes. The efforts of the Qing dynasty to enforce the opium restrictions resulted in two armed conflicts between China and the West, known as the Opium Wars, both of which China lost and this resulted in various measures ... The edification of his text and of his readership is attempted through the construction of an inversive space which refigures the sublime: the apex of the cultured. I have chosen those moments in the text in which the poet nears the threshold of bordering abject in order to construct his sublime utopian vision. • 40. John Donne And Gertrude Stein s Poetry Analysis In poetry, poets can shape every component (words, syntax, rhythm, punctuation, etc.) to convey a unique meaning. Small changes in such elements can have drastic effects on what the reader will draw from the poem. Often, poets will rely on some tools more than others to try and convey their meaning. Many times, the period in which the poet is writing will strongly influence how the poet uses these elements. John Donne and Gertrude Stein are considered shapers of metaphysical poetry and modern poetry respectively, and the way they manipulate their poetry reflects the ideas of their literary periods. Gertrude Stein, as a cubist poet, plays with diction, syntax, and punctuation to impart meaning. Meanwhile, John Donne, as a metaphysical poet, relies more on the use of imagery and conceits to illustrate the purpose of his poems. Inspired by modern artists like Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein was determined to create portraits that captured the present moment and transcribe them into poetry. During her education at Harvard, Stein began to experiment with different methods to try and achieve her goal. One of these methods that would strongly influence her future work was automatic writing. The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the current reigning rival Sinaloa Cartel spurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route. Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman Loera has surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez s territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one organized crime group in the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this border city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio CastaĂąeda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, So far this year (2015) there have been 89 killings (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an international challenge, but the war against organized crime in Mexico and along the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it has been in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement agencies in Mexico needs to stop, ... • 42. Red Giants Research Paper Nolan Harris Red Giants Red giants are dying stars that are in their last part of stellar evolution. Every star will eventually turn into a red giant over some point in time. Stars turn into red giants when there is no more hydrogen fuel for the star. Inside of a star, hydrogen goes through a process called nuclear fusion where hydrogen is getting converted into helium. Nuclear fusion helps create energy for the star so that the force of gravity isn t crushing the star together. This is also the reason why stars are bright. When the star runs out of hydrogen to convert into helium, the energy that kept the star from collapsing is now gone. Gravity then takes over and compresses the star. From this point, the helium atoms are able to combine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are very luminous stars that have a relatively cool surface temperature compared to the stars in the main sequence that have about the same luminosity. Red giants typically have low to intermediate mass than a regular star, even though they are about 1000 times larger in the red giant phase of stellar evolution. Red supergiants are known as the biggest stars by radius. The biggest red supergiant is mentioned as VY Canis Majoris. This star is about 1800 times bigger than our sun. Although there are plenty of red giants in space, none of them are that close to us. The closest red giant is Gamma Crucis (88 light years away).3 We do not have to worry about the world ending due to the sun becoming a red giant anytime in our lifetime, but plenty of them are out there. Red giants are a very interesting part in stellar evolution as we have gained lots of knowledge about them over history. Our knowledge of these stars helps us understand stars and their stellar evolution that much more. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Comparative of Henrik Ibsen´s A Doll´s House and... Within one s lifetime, the mark to finding oneself is being able to overcome hardships and difficulties in order to unravel the full potential concealed within them. From being manipulated and deceived, this manages to bring about an ability hidden within oneself that can only be triggered by experiencing what it is like to be a victim of deception. In A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and As You Like It by William Shakespeare, each author entraps their protagonists with the role of being manipulative or the victim of being manipulated to further enhance the author s purpose of revealing or unlocking the hidden potential that arose within the characters. Throughout A Doll s House, Torvald views Nora s actions as being deceiving not only towards him but also towards her family. However, Nora gain her perspective on her own actions and begins observing it differently than Torvald s. The play states, It was me they told that his life was in danger...well, well, I thought, you ve got to be saved somehow. And then I thought of a way , (Ibsen 35 36). Within Nora s and Mrs. Linde s private conversation, Nora conveys that her manipulation of money revealed how she deceives her husband even though it was in good intent to save his life. In addition, this demonstrates Nora s willingness to think about others, such as her husband, before realizing for herself that there were going to be consequences for her later on. Within the play, Nora states, You have never understood me. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
